Angel’s Girl
Characters: Angel Reyes x black!reader
Summary: Angel wants everyone to know you’re his girl. Also, part of a request from @brownsugarcoffy/  Hi! I don't know if your taking any request, but I saw this picture of this necklace with Angel on it. I was wondering if you would write a imagine of Angel Reyes giving the reader a necklace with his name to claiming her as his old lady and now Angel now wants to only see her wearing his name as they make love. I really adore your writing and know you will do it justice. ❤
Warnings: A lil angst, a lil smut, a whole lotta fluff and cheesiness.
Here’s more of my work or if you would like to be notified here’s my taglist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At some point, you and Angel knew you had a forever kind of love. The kind of love where you get tattoos expressing that love. When it was your two-year anniversary, he propositioned the idea.
He showed you the sketches he drew of your name. He was so excited, that it physically hurt you to burst his bubble. “Angel, I love you, but there’s no way I’m getting your name tattooed on me.” Angel grabbed you by the back of your neck and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “I know, mi dulce. You’re too practical for that, so that’s why I drew you these.”
Moving his page of his drawing of your name Angel revealed a sheet of paper full of angel wings drawings. The one in the center, immediately caught your attention. “That one! That’s the one!”
“Yeah? You like it?” He asked nervously. Angel had only shown his drawings to you and EZ. He was too insecure to share them with to anyone else.
“Duh! And I’ll get ‘em on my fingers and go like this,” you flicked your wrist. “And tell them my super amazingly talented boyfriend drew them.”
“Handsome. Your super amazingly talented handsome boyfriend.”
“Oh, how could I forget!?” You smacked your forehead. “It’s okay, I forgive you.” He kissed your temple and listened to you plan when you and he would get the tattoos while he rubbed the ring finger you flicked at him earlier, thinking how well it would look with an engagement ring.
--
Angel just loved how you showed off your tattoos. Or better yet how you explained the meaning behind them. Club hang arounds? You flaunted that shit and in the next breath you threatened to punch them dead in the face if they ever disrespect you by flirting with Angel. Dudes hitting on you at the bar? You shot them down with the quickness and told them you only belonged to one person and fluttered your fingers like you were already married.
But one day the tattoos weren’t enough. Angel didn’t know what it was, but he knew he needed something else to say you’re his. An engagement ring was out of the question because he had yet to find the perfect one. Luckily, one day he stumbled onto a heart locket that had his name engraved in it and he knew that was it. That would show everyone you were his old lady.
When he brought the necklace to you, you were automatically in love, but you also had to tease him. He was practically going all caveman on you when he requested you always wear it. “Damn Angel, I might as well get your name tattooed on my forehead.”
“Angel!” You hit him as he was seriously mulling over the idea. “I’m just kidding, querdia. We want to take attention away from your big ole forehead not bring more to it.”
--
With your forgetful self, one day you forgot to put your necklace back on after the gym. That didn’t sit well with Angel, especially since you and him weren’t on the best of terms.
“Where the fuck is your necklace, Y/N?”
“In the car. I forgot to put it back on.” You set down your gym bag, went into the kitchen and got you a bottle of water.
“You forgot? Didn’t I tell you to keep it on at all times?” His insecurities were flaring up, driving him to be crazily possessive.
“Angel, I’m not your damn property! When you get that through your thick ass skull give me a call!” And with that you ran out the door with him calling after you was cut off by you slamming the door and running into your car.
That’s how you ended up at the bar, listening to some lame pickup lines.
“Angel, that’s a pretty name.”  The guy pointed to your necklace.
Soon as you decided you were going to the bar you put the necklace back on. “It is.” You replied in a monotone voice, keeping your eyes straight ahead. He didn’t take the hint that you were not interested and continued to talk to you.
When you raised your glass to take a sip, he noticed your tattoos and made some corny joke. Somehow, he kept going even though that was like the fifth joke you didn’t laugh at.
From afar Angel was watching the interaction partly amused and partly jealous. He wanted you to tell the guy get lost, but he could clearly see your annoyance and it was funny to him. He decided he’ll let it go on for a little while longer to let you suffer some more unless it got out of hand.
“So, Angel what’s a beautiful girl like you doing here alone?” The stranger was about to put his hand on your thigh, but he finally picked up on some social cues and stopped himself. “I was enjoying my drink and my name’s not Angel.”
“What? It says it right there.” He pointed to your locket. Oh, this man was dumber than you thought. “Doesn’t mean it’s my name.”
“Then whose name is it?” He got defensive, he didn’t appreciate being made a fool of.
“Her boyfriend’s.” Angel finally decided to intervene when he saw the guy become agitated.
The sleazebag was about to be Billy badass, but then he saw Angel’s kutte and became a stuttering mess. “Sor-so-so-sor-sorry man, I didn’t know she was your girl. My bad.” He didn’t even give Angel time to threaten him. He ran off afraid of what could happen.
“Took you long enough off.” Halfway through your one-sided conversation with your unwanted suitor you saw Angel’s reflection through the bar’s mirror. “You knew I was here? Why didn’t you stop him?”
“I thought you would.”
Angel took your glass and drunk the rest of your drink. “Nah, it was too much fun seeing you suffer.”
“Asshole!” You playfully shoved Angel.
He started to laugh but it eventually died down. “I’m sorry, querida.”
“For being an asshole at home or being one here?”
“At home. That shit here was too funny.” He backed away before you could hit him again. “Seriously though, I’m sorry. I don’t think of you as my property. Yeah this,” Angel moved in closer to grab your necklace, “it means you’re my girl, but the deeper meaner is that you own my heart.”
“So that means I’m not your whore you can fuck however and whenever you want?” You asked with a smirk.
“Check, please!”
Angel had you twisted up like some damn pretzel, but you loved it. As soon as you got home, he got on his knees and made you cum three times with his mouth and he would’ve gone for the fourth if you didn’t beg him to fuck you.
“Shit! Who’s pussy is this?” Angel was pounding into you, his eyes were focused on your locket swinging against your neck. “It’s yours Daddy!”
“Damn right it is.” He took your left hand and sucked your ring finger. With his hand he took a hold of your neck. “And next time some little bitch tried talking to you, you shit that shit down. You understand me?”
“Yes, daddy,” you whimpered with tears streaming down your face. Angel was too good at this. You could feel another orgasm mounting up and it felt like it would be the most powerful of all.
Angel noticed you trying to hold back your orgasm because he didn’t give you the permission to cum. “Good girl.” He praised you, leaning forward until your foreheads met. “Daddy’s making you feel good?”
“Yes,” you nodded your head, “You’re so big, I can feel you deep in my tummy.”
He pressed a hand to your stomach. “You’re right, princesa. I’m deep in them guts. But can you do me a favor baby girl?”
“Anything for you.” Angel smiled against your neck. “Cum all over daddy’s cock.” And just like that you did. You screamed Angel’s name at the top of your lungs almost drowning out his own shouts of pleasure.
After that thorough round you wanted to bundle up and go to sleep but Angel made you get up. “Hygiene over comfortability,” he said.
As you went to use the restroom, he changed the sheets and started the bath. Just before you joined him in the tub, he handed you your shower cap. It was blissful silence as you two cleaned up.
Again, Angel was rubbing in your left ring finger. Ever since you got the tattoo there, he’s been obsessed, but he never gave the same attention to your middle finger with the other angel wing.
“Angel?”
“Yes, querida?”
“Why do you keep a hand on my ring finger?”
“Man, I thought you were the smart one of us two.” You splashed some water his way and he quickly apologized knowing you could start a splash war like nothing.
He brought up said finger to his lips and kissed it. “Because I can’t stop imagining how good it’ll look with a ring on it.”
His answer appeased you which led you to your conditions of your proposal. Angel listened eagerly and ingrained each requirement in his head. There was no way he was gonna mess this up.
--
He hadn’t been shopping for it, he just accidentally stumbled on it while at the mall. Weeks later, Angel finally found the perfect engagement ring for you. He was so excited that he planned to propose that night, but your nails weren’t done and one of your requirements were to make sure your nails weren’t ‘raggedy’ as you would put it.
Then another couple of weeks later the opportunity presented itself. You were on your lunch break and you came to the clubhouse to spend it with him and the guys. Your mouth was full of tacos like chipmunk cheeks while you yelled ‘No fucking way!’ at Coco and Angel thought there was no one he rather spend the rest of his days with.
He did a quick check of your nails and they still look good from the day before. Yeah there were people around, but it was people you and him consider family. Your hair was done, and you had a nice outfit on, so all the boxes were checked.
“Querida,” he called out to you to stop you from arguing with Coco.
“Yeah babe?” You turned to him and found him on one knee. “Oh my god!” You jumped up and started wiggling around doing some weird celebratory dance.
The guys turned to see what was happening and they all cracked a smile. “About damn time.” Coco slapped the back of Angel’s shoulders. The rest of the Mayans came out with their guns out when they heard your screams, but quickly put them away when they saw what was happening.
Each time Angel tried to say something you would just squeal and continue dancing, not giving him a chance to get one-word in. “Prospect, get her.” Bishop ordered, seeing how uncomfortable Angel was getting from kneeling on the gravel.
EZ wrapped one arm around your shoulders and the other over your mouth. “I know you’re excited to be my sister-in-law, but you can’t say yes if he can’t ask the question. So, can you be quiet and be still?” You nodded your head fervently and EZ released you.
“Thanks, bro.” Angel cleared his throat before looking at you. He was getting nervous again, but then he saw how you had to contain your excitement and he was overwhelmed with love again. “You know I’m not good with words and shit, but I’ll try. You’re my everything, Y/N. You’re my first thought in the morning and my last thought at night. I honestly can’t think of my life without you because it would be too depressing. God, I hope this isn’t too corny, but here it goes: what’s the point of an angel if there’s no heaven? So, with that being said, Y/N, will you marry me?”
“Yes!” Angel was lucky he started to stand up because you tackled him once he slid the ring on. He was attacked with kisses all over his face and he wondered how could he had been worried about you saying no at all.
“You know you’re gonna be stuck with me forever, right?”
“Yeah, I’m perfectly fine with that. What’s the point of heaven if I don’t have my Angel with me?” Forever with Angel sounded like paradise and you couldn’t wait.

Promise Status, Broken
Warnings: fake death, blood, taking shirt off, drugging, hospital setting, needles,conditioned response, mention of torture
He plunged the knife into Hero's abdomen and pressed. He pressed until the hilt was hardly visible under the layer of blood that pooled around the open wound. He pressed until Hero's stuttering breaths stopped.
And he let the dead body fall to the ground with a thump. Villain put his boot onto Hero's dull face and kicked. She didn't deserve kindness, dead or alive. Villain pulled the knife out.
Suddenly, the dark shed that he committed the long overdue murder was infiltrated by an eerie white glow.
"Hero," came a breathless gasp. Then the shocked voice changed into a professional order, "Hands up where I can see them!" A gun clicked.
Villain slowly turned around. His smug attitude and cockiness was apparent as he held the bloody knife deftly between his fingers. The blood dripped to the ground with a splatter.
"Drop the weapon," a young police officer yelled. "Drop it."
Villain smirked. The police officer was so tiny. Villain was muscular and very agile. He could've just tossed the knife and mortally wound the officer if it wasn't for the sudden flash of white in the back of his head.
Villain collasped forward, falling onto his side. He blinked, trying to dispel the dizziness and stars. The dark room seemed even darker like a black abyss. The moonlight he saw earlier was all muddled into a blob.
Through his swimming vision, Villain saw the young police officer swoop down to pluck the prey off the ground. He cradled Villain's lolling head with a fake concerned look on his face. Villain blinked, squinted, did everything in his power to focus on the young face.
The officer must've realized Villain's effort because he said, "Do you know who I am?" Villain shook his head. To him, it was an effort, an effort that cost the room to tilt and Villain to sway. But in reality, it was the weakest thing.
"Recognize me now?" The officer said in a deeper voice. Villain's brain very slowly placed the voice with the face of Hero's sidekick.
"Sidekick," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Good boy," Sidekick rubbed the side of Villain's head. It sent a new flare of heated pain through his body, centering on his head. Villain tried to jerk himself away, managing to break free of Sidekick's grasp. The only thing it added up to, however, was two more arms catching him before he toppled to the ground.
"Dizzy?" Sidekick said in a babyish tone. Villain didn't answer. Everything burned and ached and it was getting harder and harder to stay conscious.
"You just murdered Hero, Villain, why?" Sidekick asked.
Villain's cognitive skills weren't one hundred percent, so his tongue spoke before his damaged mind had a chance to catch up.
"P-promise... m' status... broken," Villain whispered. He just wanted to fall backwards and die. Oh, would that be sweet. But the arms supporting him kept him up and awake as nails dug into his skin. It was a new sensation, one Villain never experienced before. Nails into the skin.
Sidekick's once serious face turned into one of pure childish curiosity. "Walk," he sneered. "We are walking to the car."
Villain felt himself being lifted onto his feet. Then, he felt all of his weight relying on those two support beams. He swayed, determined to stay upright.
Dizziness once again ran its course as Villain stepped forward- one teetering step at a time. He let out a groan, and a moan, and a whimper, and a- the list goes on.
Villain did not remember stepping into the car. The second his body touched the seat, he was out. Sidekick had to move his head so that he wouldn't break his neck going over a bump. He sighed and stared sadly at the poor Villain's head. It was necessary, very necessary, or Hero wouldn't have been able to escape.
"Thank you," came a pained voice. Sidekick spun around to see Hero limping forward. She had her hand protectively covering a bruise on her stomach. Sidekick sighed in relief and embraced her. The extra padding and fake blood worked well.
"I should be thanking you," Sidekick laughed. "If you didn't hit him, I would be dead."
Hero's happy face contorted into a much more serious expression.
"Why did you make Villain walk like that?" She asked. It was very rude, and practically unnecessary. She couldn't help but think that Sidekick wanted to offend Villain. She glanced at the sleeping, limp figure in the back of the car. Villain's blood from a nasty gash that Hero caused with a metal bar, pooled around him. She grimaced in guilt.
"Hero?" Sidekick asked.
"You never answered my question," Hero snapped. She ignored the painful bruise and glared at her sidekick.
"If we didn't have that protection on, you would be dead," Sidekick defended himself.
Hero scoffed and said, "Don't make excuses for your actions. We both know that it wasn't his fault that he turned out like this."
"He could've control his emotions, turned to goodness, not anger," Sidekick pointed out and pursed his lips. "He's not the innocent one."
Hero closed her eyes shut for a moment, replaying a memory that haunted her for a long time.
"I promise to always be there for you," Hero told Villain as she hugged him under the stars when they were nineteen, three years ago.
"Promise?" Villain's sweet voice cracked, absent of the usual sarcasm. Of course, he wasn't a villain then.
"I promise."
The next week, Villain was kidnapped by Supervillain.
"Don't look for him Hero, he's as good as dead anyways," her sidekick told her. Sidekick always saw the practical side of everything, so Hero assumed he was right.
The next year, Hero stumbled upon a broken body in an alleyway. Her heart lurched as she examimed the countless injuries. Broken ribs and nose, bruises littered the torso and his lungs struggled to take a breath. Hero tentatively pushed the skinny arm of his face and she gasped in horror. It was Villain.
Villain was alive, not dead.
Hero didn't hesitate to lift Villain's severely underweight body up and bring him to a hospital. She sat by his bed until he woke up a couple days later. She was beyond exhaustion at this point, and was so relieved to see Villain conscious that she nearly broke down in tears.
But a small, weak voice stopped her emotions from letting loose.
"Promise status," Villain murmured, his eyes already closing. Hero didn't register the words right away, she just tried to shake Villain awake. "Broken," he finished his sentence. Only then did Hero realize the meaning. She never looked for Villain. She just left him for dead, assuming the worse. After Villain's eyes slid closed, she noticed how conditioned the sentence was. It wasn't even a complete sentence. More like a robot repeating its task over and over, "Cycle One, Complete. Cycle Two, Begin. Cycle One..."
Hero, knowing she really shouldn't, laid her head on the bed, too tired to stay awake anymore. She hated the way Villain spoke to her, but was ecstatic to know he could wake up. So she slept.
Maybe two hours later, she woke to Villain scrambling up in fear. All the monitors started screaming. Without thinking, Hero pressed the HELP button, which only added to the piercing noise.
"Villain, hey, hey," Hero tried to soothe, which only resulted in Villain jerking back so hard that the IV ripped from his arm. Blood splattered everywhere, but that was the least of Hero's worries. Villain's hands went up to his mouth, yanking the oxygen mask off. In one split second, the previous rage settled into a slight panic. His chest heaved, unable to breathe properly.
Shortly after, the nurses rushed in with a syringe that contained a clear liquid.
"What is that?" Hero asked, instinctively stepping between the nurse and the terrified Villain.
The nurse hesitated before replying, "We need to calm him down before he hurts himself and others. It's just a sedative."
Hero shakily stepped out of the way. She felt useless watching the nurse inject Villain with the needle. She felt useless seeing his eyes widen in fear.
After a few minutes, the wildness in Villain's eyes were replaced with a tired look. His muscles loosened and relaxed as his breathing deepened. Another nurse rushed in with an oxygen mask.
Very soon, Villain's eyelids slipped completely shut. Hero and the nurse slowly lowered him into the bed.
The nurse laid their hand on Hero's shoulder and squeezed sympathetically. When she left, Hero sunk down into her chair and took Villain's hand in her's. She brought her finger to the bandage that covered his wrist and rubbed it. She thought of how she just left him to suffer under Supervillain's wrath. It wasn't fair.
A horrid thought struck her. What if Villain wouldn't trust her anymore? He already seemed to be terrified of her. However, that could also be due to the hospital setting.
"Hero!"
Sidekick's voice dragged Hero from her flashback and so did the repetitive snaps of his fingers.
"Oh sorry," Hero gave a half-smile and walked to where Villain was sleeping. She sat down next to him, crunching his legs so she could fit.
"Are you seriously sitting back there?" Sidekick asked, leaning against the open door.
"Yes," Hero said, bringing Villain's feet onto her lap. "Of course." When she saw the look on Sidekick's face, she added, "He can't do much at the moment."
Sidekick still gave her a doubtful look, but jogged over to the driver's side and hopped in. Hero shut the door.
They drove in silence until they reached Hero's base. It was a small buidling, but had a couple cells, medic lab, and many bedrooms. It was mainly known for the gorgeous decor, both outside and indoors.
Hero and Sidekick worked together to bring Villain into one of the medic rooms. When Sidekick rushed to find Doctor, Hero took the time to examine Villain's physical health other than the bloody wound on his head.
Hero gingerly lifted his shirt, but then put it back, too scared to actually see what was under there. When Villain was discharged from the hospital, the doctors told her that the psychological healing would take awhile, especially since he would be reminded everyday with the scars. She took a deep breath and looked.
The criss-crossed scars made her want to vomit. They lined his muscles, putting unnecessary dents into the perfectly lined abs. Trying to ignore the marks, she tried to find the positive things. He was much more physically in shape than she had ever seen. All the lost weight was returned to him.
Footsteps sounded so she put his shirt back, trying to dispel the image now engraved in her mind.
"You whacked him hard," Doctor commented, examining Villain's head. "But he should be able to recover with minimal damage, but we will see. I do want to take tests and do a scan when he wakes up." Doctor cocked his head and then asked, "Is he better?"
"What do you mean?"
"Has he recovered from Supervillain? The last time I saw him-"
"No," Sidekick interrupted. "He was trying to kill Hero."
Yeah cause we let him, Hero thought, but remained silent.
"Hmm," Doctor mumbled. "Expect confusion for a couple days." Then he left.
Sidekick and Hero hovered over Villain's bed, silently. Hero recognized that things seemed to be more quiet between them, but didn't dwell on it.
After a moment or two, Sidekick left, leaving Hero alone. Again.
She sat next to Villain and held his hand like she did a couple years ago. It was the same setting, just a different hospital.
Suddenly, Villain's hand jerked away from Hero's touch. She looked up at him, fear coursing through her body. He just tried to kill me, she told herself over and over.
"Promise status, broken," Villain said. "Promise status, broke. Promise status, broken! Promise, promise..." Villain voice trailed off as he looked around the room. "Promise status, broken," he whispered and closed his eyes. Hero gently shook him.
He looked at her, evil eyes meeting righteous eyes. Hero couldn't help but feel yet another twinge of guilt.
Villain, in his delirious state, could not recognize the figure in front of him. She was pretty, was all he could think, and the same words. "Promise status, broken," was the only thing his tongue allowed him to say. Nothing made sense, nothing at all.
But what didn't make sense the most was when the girl leaned forward and took Villain's head in her hands. He wanted to recoil backwards and escape the misery, but she was stronger and the blinding headache made little things impossible.
"Don't worry. I am gonna fix you up... I promise."

You paced your living room as you were waiting for your boyfriend Hawks to return home after his shift. He recently became the #2 Hero after All Might’s retirement which came with a big responsibility as he was being called out for more missions. You were fine with this and knew what you signed up for when the two of you first started dating about a year ago. You noticed that your sleep schedule was slightly off since you were staying up late at night waiting for Keigo to come home safe. Some nights he would be coming home when the sun was coming up, others he would only be gone for an hour or two.
Recently, you noticed how the fame and him being on the news had been getting to him and going to his head. He had begun to prioritize whatever big showy villain that had been appearing in the news over you. He also began to sneak off at night after he thought you had gone to sleep. He also would make random trips to the nearby store asking if you wanted something while he was gone. He also began to forget about important date nights or weekends that the two of you had planned. After weeks of putting up with this, you decided that tonight you were going to confront him about it. You heard something land on your balcony and your back door slide open. You stopped your pacing and folded your arms across your chest and stared at your boyfriend as he entered your home.
“Oh, Hey, baby bird. I didn’t think you’d be staying up for me. I would’ve messaged you to tell you that I was going to be late tonight.” He chuckled as he closed the door behind him and walked to you to give you a hug and a kiss. You pushed him away.
“What’s wrong?” He asked as he was a little hurt that you pushed him away. You took a deep breath and cut straight to the point.
“Why have you been sneaking off at night? Also, you have been forgetting special date nights. You forgot our One-year anniversary! Am I that boring to you now that you’ve decided to delve yourself into your work?” You asked him then and there with your voice wavering and tears threatening to fall from your face.
“Listen, I’ve been busy as I’m the #2 Hero now. I want to protect people from villains that seem to be popping up like weeds recently and I want to spend time with you. But how can the world be safe unless I’m there to help keep the villains from wrecking the city? I also have to keep up my reputation and if I don’t keep taking down villains, that might affect my income from the Commission.” He explained. That made your heart break into a million pieces.
“That doesn’t mean that you have to shove me to the side and keep going to the spotlight just so then you can have more money. Can’t you ignore the calls once in a while?” You asked him as you felt hot tears stream down your cheeks, and you pushed him away again.
“You know I can’t do that!” He spoke in a raised tone which made you cower in front of him as he raised and flared his wings at you. He saw you cowering in front of him, and he lowered his wings. He tried to reach for you to apologize and comfort you, but you smacked his hands away.
“Get out.” You told him. He looked more hurt as he backed away from you. He went out onto the balcony and took off. You fell to your knees bawling your eyes out. You let your tears dry before you called a friend asking if you could stay at their house for a few days since things weren’t going well with you and Hawks. You went to your room and packed a bag with some essentials that you would need while you were gone. You then left the apartment and drove over to your friend’s house where you crashed on the spare bed your friend had and slept the rest of the night.
§§§§§
You woke up the next morning to a dozen missed calls and text messages from Hawks wondering where you were. You decided to ignore him and go about your day. You had breakfast and showered before you went to work. Your phone continued to be spammed with messages from your boyfriend. On your break, you decided to call him back and tell him that you were fine and you needed some space from him for a while.
“How long will a while be? I miss having you around the house.” His voice sounded from the other side. He sounded like he had been crying and had gotten drunk too. You frowned since you thought that he stopped drinking when the two of you got serious. You let tears run down your face.
“I don’t know how long it will be. I need my space.” You responded and ended the call. You set your phone down on the nearby table and cried again. He was too needy and you guessed that he only wanted you around for appearances and to keep up his image to keep the media from putting him in a bad light.
Little did you know that he was keeping a big secret from you.
About a week or so later, you moved back to your apartment and had your friend help you gather up Keigo’s things and put them outside your building near the trash can. Your friend left your apartment after his things were put near the trash and you had just enough energy to make yourself dinner and shower.
As you were sitting in front of your television eating dinner, your phone rang again. You sighed in annoyance and picked your phone up. It was your friend.
“I don’t know what you’re doing but turn on the news.” They spoke. You reached for your remote and switched the channel to the news. The news was showing Hawks fighting a large group of villains that seemed to be at the advantage point. You watched as he dived and sent out feathers from his wings to pin the villains to the ground. He looked bruised and beaten up. You didn’t know if you should be upset or not even care that the man that you thought you loved was fighting against a large group of villains on his own. You sat forward in your seat and watched the screen before you. He was eventually thrown into the ground and knocked out. That is when you turned the device off and sat back on your couch.
“Y/n? Are you alright?” You thought you heard your friend say from your phone that you had set down when you turned the news on. You held your head in your hands.
“I’ll be fine. I don’t know if I should be going to the hospital or staying here. I want to go be by his side but I also don’t want to give him or the media what they want.” You responded to your friend.
“Just stay where you are and keep watching the news. I’ll stay here on the phone with you.” Your friend told you. You trembled where you sat and turned the television back on. You saw that Hawks was now being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher. He looked bloodied and beaten up. You let the tears fall down your face as you watched the scene play out on the screen. You felt frozen to your couch, paralyzed by seeing the one that you loved being carted off to the hospital. You stood up and went into your bedroom to get changed. You were going to the hospital. A tiny part of you still cared about him. You couldn’t deny it. You were sure about it. You walked out of your bedroom and to the couch where your phone still laid on the call with your friend.
“I’m going to the hospital. A tiny part of me still cares for him.” You spoke.
“If you say so. Be safe, Y/n. Call be back with details later, ok?” They spoke. You agreed and hung up before you left your apartment and drove to the hospital. You parked your car and ran into the hospital. You asked the front desk what room Hawks was in and you were told that he was in surgery. You were guided to a waiting area that seemed void of people. You sat alone and texted your friend what was going on. You looked around the room before you focused on the nearby television and listened to the news as it wrapped up the incident of the group of villains attacking and Hawks being the only one that fought them. The screen showed recaps of him fighting the villains and how he didn’t let any other heroes help him and how one of the heroes called to Hawks saying that doing this battle alone was a suicide mission and that he needed help. Hawks ignored them and was now in a critical condition and in surgery.
Your focus was broken when someone with dark hair and a hood up that covered their face entered the room and walked past your line of vision. The person sat in the chair next to you and you swore the scent of burnt flesh and smoke filled your nose.
“So, you here waiting for the #2 Hero Hawks to come out of surgery? The nurses typically don’t let just anyone come into the waiting room for Pro heroes to be in recovery so they can be by their side. You must be his main squeeze. The one he takes to fancy events and show up in front of the media when he goes to a press conference.” The person spoke in a raspy voice. You stared at them confused and a little weirded out. You moved to go to a different seat but the person’s hand grabbed onto your arm.
“I believe it would be best that you stay where you are, doll. You and I need to have a little chat.” The person said in a firm tone. You sat back down and person’s hand moved off your arm.
“Have you noticed that Hawks has been leaving you absent more often? Divulging himself into his job and sneaking off when he thinks you’ve gone asleep? Well, honey, I’m one of those reasons why he’s been going off at random times. He doesn’t love you anymore. He doesn’t even like women. He only puts up that façade for the media. He’s been cheating you. I’m his true love. We’ve known each other since we were little kids so our bond is stronger than anything you think you’ll have with him. Now, I suggest you go home and don’t even think of contacting him again or I will find you and burn everything you love to the ground.” The person said.
You[jF1] turned to the person with wide eyes and noticed the surgical staples and pattern of burnt skin and the piercing blue eyes. This was the villain known as Dabi. Your mind raced with thoughts as you stood up and began to exit the hospital with tears streaming from your face. Some of the staff tried to stop you but you just wanted to get out of there. You went to the car and sat in the safety of the driver’s seat with tears streaming down your cheeks. You hiccupped and your crying turned into sobs that racked your whole body. How could he use you like that? He was cheating on you and not just with another woman but a man? You never picked up any hints from him that he didn’t like you. You just though because he became the #2 Hero that he was busier capturing villains and making the world a better place. The idea that he had been cheating on you did cross your mind. The encounter with Dabi confirmed it.
You waited for your tears to dry before you went back into the hospital and asked if Hawks was out of surgery yet. The nurse told you that he was and gave you his room number. You were a woman with determination as you made your way to the room where the hero lay now healing from the injuries he sustained in battle. You opened the door and sat quietly in a chair in the room to wait for Hawks to wake up. The wait wasn’t long as a few minutes later Keigo opened his eyes and looked at you.
“Hey, baby bird.” He said weakly. You laughed.
“Don’t “baby bird” me. You lying, cheating scumbag!” You told him. He sat up a bit and looked at you confused.
“What do you mean? What have I done wrong!?” He asked you.
“You were sneaking out at night to go get screwed or screw with a man! A man that’s a villain too!” You responded.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He told you.
“Don’t lie. I met him downstairs while I was waiting for you to get out of surgery. He smells of burnt flesh and smoke. He also has surgical staples keeping his skin together. Does that sound familiar?” You spoke with a hint of venom in your voice. Hawk’s eyes widened and he laid back on the hospital bed.
“I’m right, aren’t I?” You asked as you stood up from your chair. Hawks looked to you and sighed.
“Its not what you think. The commission asked me to infiltrate the League to gather more information. I might’ve slept with one or two of them to get leverage and gain their trust. But you, my love, are my one and only person that I’d love until the end of time.” He told you truthfully. You didn’t know if you should believe him or not.
“Keigo… We’re over. Feel free to go to where ever it is the villains are hiding when you’re discharged. I don’t want to see you for a while. I need my own space.” You spoke as your voice cracked and your heart sank to your stomach.
“Then leave.” He told you as he stared deadpan at the ceiling. You could feel your heart breaking. You backed out of the room and left the hospital.
You drove home and closed the door behind you and sunk to the floor feeling horrible and sad. You went to your freezer and pulled out a pint of ice cream, got into your pjs and proceeded to eat said ice cream in front of your tv. A few hours passed and your phone buzzed with a text from your friend asking if you were ok. You texted them that you and Hawks broke up. Your friend responded saying that they will be over with some pizza and more ice cream in about half an hour. You unlocked your door before you went to your room and laid on your bed to stare at the ceiling. You heard your door unlock and your friend call out to let you know that it was them. You watched from your room as they set the food on the counter and look for you. They kneeled down and made sure you weren’t going to do anything drastic and have you end up in the hospital. You told them that you wouldn’t and they hugged you before they left you alone to wallow about your loss. You ate some of the pizza and some more ice cream before you took a shower and went to bed.
You woke up the next morning and it was a struggle to pull yourself out of bed and get yourself dressed. You called in to work to tell them that you needed a few days off to only have your boss tell you that you could take as much time as you needed and to come back to work when you were ready. You were relieved then called your parents asking if you could come back home for a while. They asked why and you told them that you didn’t want to talk about it right then but you just needed to come home for a while and get away from the city. They agreed and asked when you’d be coming over. You told them that you’d be over this afternoon. They were excited that you’d be coming so soon and they would have their guest bedroom ready for you. You hung up with them and packed your bags. You locked up your apartment and left.
As you drove to your parent’s house, you listened to the news as heard that Hawks had been discharged from the hospital and was now spending time recovering in his home. You rolled your eyes and kept driving. You didn’t notice that Hawks was in a car following you.
§§§§§
You pulled into the driveway of your parent’s two-story log cabin that you remember them building just after you moved out. You exited your car as your parents came down the driveway and greeted you. They helped you carry your bags inside and help you get settled. Little did you know that Hawks had kept following you until your mom spoke up.
“Honey, do you know that vehicle?” Your mom spoke and gestured to the dark car that had been following you since the city.
“No. I don’t.” You responded as the car parked and the passenger side door opened and the last person, you’d expect to have seen exited the car.
“Y/n! It’s so glad to see you! I haven’t seen you since I was in the hospital.” Hawks spoke. It had only been a day. You told him you needed your space and he just violated that by following you out here. He followed you out to the place you thought you could get away from him and readjust your life and move on from him. But no, this sick fucker had to follow you like a little lost puppy.
“Mom, Dad, this is Hawks. You two know him as the #2 Hero. I know him as my Ex-boyfriend and a dirty cheating scumbag.” You told your parents. Your mom guided you inside while your father stepped forward to confront Hawks.
“Why don’t you and I take a little walk.” Your dad told Hawks as he guided him away from you. Your mom helped you get your bags inside and heated some water for tea. You sat on the bed as your mind raced. How did he get out of the hospital after one day? Was he that desperate to get back with you? You had told him that you needed space. Was he really that selfish? You shook the thoughts off and busied yourself by unpacking your bags and trying to get settled. Your mom came in with a hot cup of tea to help settle your nerves.
“Y/n, honey? Tea is ready. Why don’t we sit down and you can tell me what’s going on?” She suggested. You nodded and followed her out to the kitchen table where You unfolded the events that had happened over the past day and a half. As you were telling her what happened, you began to choke up and tears fall from your face. Your mother pulled you into a comforting hug just as Hawks came through the door.
“Y/N! PLEASE! I’M SORRY FOR WHAT I’VE DONE. I WOULD NEVER CHEAT ON YOU.” He exclaimed. You looked at him and was absolutely disgusted. You stood up and approached him.
“I am absolutely disgusted with you. You violated my space by following me out here! I want you to leave and I never want to see you again!” You yelled at him. Hawks, looking hurt, walked to the door, turned back to see your hurt and angry expression then he closed the door behind him. You sat back down in the chair next to your mom and you covered your mouth and let more tears stream from your eyes. Your dad put a hand on your back as sobs wracked through your body.
“You can stay here for as long as you need to, Y/n. You’re safe here from him.” You heard your dad tell you.
“I just want to go lay down.” You spoke as you stood shakily. Your mom helped you to your room where you laid down under your blanket and passed out.
You woke up again around dinner time and you groggily left your bedroom and went to the kitchen where your mom was finishing up your favorite comfort food.
“Hi honey, did you sleep well?” Your mom asked as you went to the kettle to make a cup of hot cocoa.
“Yes, I did, thank you for asking.”
“I’m glad you slept well, dear. Can you set the table please? Dinner is almost ready.” She said as you took a sip of your cocoa. You got plates down and silverware out and set the table. Your mom put hot pans and bowls on top of potholders on the table. You felt at home as the smells of your favorite dishes filled your nose. You said grace before you dug into the food and ate your fill. Your mom brought out some of your favorite dessert and let you have some while the three of you settled down to watch a movie. After the movie was over, you went to bed and slept.
§§§§§
You stayed for the next week taking care of yourself. You contacted your work and was able to work from your parent’s cabin. After the weekend passed, your dad drove you home and made sure you were ok and that you had a means to defend yourself incase Hawks came back. You assured your dad that you were fine, and you had a couple people to call in case things did go south. Your dad helped you carry your bags up to your apartment door and hugged you goodbye. You watched as your dad walked down the steps and turned the corner where his truck was before you unlocked the door of your apartment and stepped inside. Your eyes widened as you saw the absolute chaos that was your apartment. Your lamp was broken, your couch was ripped up and your coffee table was smashed down the middle. You covered your mouth and stepped inside your home… or what was once your home. The place that you thought that you could seek comfort was ruined. There were streaks of what you thought was blood and several familiar crimson feathers either laying on the ground or stabbed into your wall or appliance. You got to your bedroom, and you saw a message painted on the wall in blood. You froze in your tracks and read the message.
“Stay away from him! He’s mine and you’ll never have a chance with him!” You read. You cried and fell to your knees and cried again. You were done and tired of this. You wanted this chaos to be over and done with. You picked up your phone and scrolled through your contacts and found Hawks. You hesitated before you clicked the button to call him. You held the phone to your ear as it rang. He answered.
“Y/n? What’s up?” He asked.
“S-someone… b-broke into my apartment. Was it you? Your feathers are here and there’s a lot of blood.” You said with a wavering tone. You didn’t hear your closet door opening as Hawks was consoling you over the phone.
“Y/n. I wasn’t there. Someone must’ve found fake feathers that match mine. Get out of there. The person that did this is probably still around. I’ll be over as soon as I can, Ok?” You heard him say as something loomed over you. Your eyes went wide as you turned around slowly to see that man from the hospital.
“Y/n?! Answer me please!” Hawks yelled into his phone as you went quiet.
“He’s here.” You said quietly. “GET UP AND RUN!” He yelled into the receiver. You registered what he had told you to do but you were frozen in place. The man from the hospital bent down and put a bloodstained finger under your chin.
“I wondered where you were, Y/n. Didn’t think it would take you so long to come home to see my message.” He spoke. The intense scent of burnt skin and now whiskey on his breath along with the ashen smell of cigarettes filled your nose. You remained frozen as the man remained hovered over you. He grabbed you by the throat and slammed you against the wall.
“Go ahead and suffer.” He croaked out as you felt a warming sensation on your neck. You clawed at his hand and beat on his arm with your fists, but he didn’t let up. Your eyes glanced over to your bedroom window where you saw some scarlet feathers break through the glass and stab through the coat of the villain and pin him against the wall. Hawks swooped in and picked you up.
“I’m here baby. I’m going to get you out of here. I’m taking you to the hospital where they can check you out and make sure you’re not injured.” You heard him say. You clung to his jacket and hid your face in his neck. He held onto you and flew to the nearby hospital where he had you taken care of. He never left your side the entire time he was there holding your hand as the doctors took scans and tests and treated your neck for any minor burns. You felt broken on the inside. You couldn’t take anymore of this drama and stress. You remembered what you had told Hawks only a week ago that you never wanted to see him ever again. But there he was, sticking by your side even when you absolutely hated his guts. Did he still care for you? You didn’t know right then but you knew that you wanted to sleep. The doctors said that you should get your rest and you let your eyes flutter closed.
§§§§§
You woke up a couple hours later to see Keigo slumped in a chair asleep. You smiled softly to yourself before speaking up.
“Hey, sleepy bird.” You said just loud enough that he could hear you. He woke up and smiled. “Nice to see that you’re awake. The doctor said that they want to keep you overnight just incase anything goes bad. Then you should be able to go home tomorrow. Or someplace where you can be safe. I’d offer for you to come to my place, but I know that you and I aren’t on the best of terms right now.” He told you. You looked at him and kept your hand to yourself even though you wanted to hold his hand and pull him close to you and tell him that everything was going to be fine. But it wasn’t. You needed to be away from him and all the media and hype That had overwhelmed your life.
“Hawks, Keigo, I need some space for a while. I mean more than a day. I need an undefined amount of time away from you. Everything that has happened, you cheating on me, you following me to my parent’s cabin, my apartment… I can’t do it anymore. I need a break from you and all the things that come with you.” You told him. He backed away from the bed, nodding slowly until he was leaning against the wall and staring at the mundane pattern of the tiles on the floor.
“So… it is true… we’re over?” His words hung in the air for a few moments. The expression on his face told you that his heart was breaking. But you didn’t think it was genuine. You could feel your heart shattering into a million pieces.
“Yes, Keigo. We’re over.” You spoke. The hero pushed off from the wall and grabbed his coat and bag before leaving your room without another word. You let your tears run down your face as one of the nurses came into the room and checked on you to make sure you were ok. You told them that you had broken things off with your boyfriend and they nodded. They stayed with you and asked if there was anyone, they could call for you and you nodded. You told them about your friend that lived in the city and that you would need to talk with them. The nurse got your phone and handed it to you. You dialed your friend and the two of you talked over your living situation. Your friend agreed to let you come live with them while you recuperated. They said that they would be there in after their shift at work to pick you up an bring you home. You felt a little bit relieved that you had a place to go home. You let yourself fall back asleep and drift off into the land of dreams.
§§§§§
You woke up the next morning and the doctor gave you a last check up to make sure your vocal cords were undamaged. They gave you a clean bill of health and you were wheeled down to the pickup area where your friend was waiting for you in their car. They helped you into the car where there was a couple bags of your things and your suitcases that had remained unpacked from your vacation. When your friend parked in the parking garage of their apartment, you got a message from Hawks saying:
“I thought over some things, and we need to talk, alone.”
End part one.

You had been at the bunker for nearly a month. In that month, you had learned of a whole new world you had never known existed right under your nose; and that scared you. How long you had walked around in ignorance before the demon version of the Alpha, who still held your heart even though he was a much softer version of himself, was beyond you.
Things you dismissed, things you explained away, how much of it was the supernatural? How much of it was something more?
Then there was Dean himself. He wasn’t the same man you had been mated to all those months ago. He was selfless and caring, when he loved he loved hard, he was self-sacrificing to a fault and he was so gentle that it was a little unsettling to you.
You still had nightmares from the time the two of you were still bound to one another. Ones of blood, black eyes, and screams in the night. Ones of bodies laying less than five feet away from where Dean was pounding into your body, knotting you, and covered in someone else’s blood.
Some things you learned that Dean remembered, but a great deal of it he did not. Like he didn’t remember you until he touched the mark on your neck that had faded and was almost not even there.
You didn’t know how much of you died when they had cured the devil that was inside of Dean and tamed the beast that was the man you had come to love to hate.
Even though Dean’s soul at the time was twisted and maimed, he was still Dean, and he was still your Alpha. The evidence was in the pull that you felt towards each other. The little touches as you passed each other. It was in the way he always seemed to sit as close to you as humanly possible, and in the way he’d sneak up behind you while you were distracted just to try and scent you. It was even in the way he didn’t leave the bunker without you. He brought you on every hunt, every supply run. The more you were around him it seemed to be harder and harder to separate yourselves from each other.
Dean made up his mind the night you moved in that he wanted to reestablish the bond, and the time spent together was going to help that, but you had to wait until your heat or else, according to their angel friend, you would never survive the claim.
He said that since you were literally married to the devil, that you were going to have to wait until your body was biologically ready to exactly his mark over his old one, something about pureblood versus the demon’s that you were once bond to, and absolutely no sex until then to ensure that there would be no slip-ups, and your body wouldn’t reject the bond.
That had to be the hardest part, waiting. Even though Dean wasn’t technically your Alpha anymore, your body still reacted to his scent as if he were, and vise versa. You were frustrated, Dean was frustrated, and if your heat didn’t hit soon you were pretty sure you were both going to lose your mind.
You had taken to helping Sam do research for cases. It was a three-fold purpose. First, it kept your mind off of the constant need for your Alpha you seem to be feeling lately. Dean’s scent was everywhere in the bunker, and it was driving you mad. Second, it helped you learn more about the world that you were going to be spending the rest of your natural life in once the bond was reestablished, and Dean was once again your Alpha. Thirdly, It seemed to help you not feel so helpless.
When you were mated to Dean the demon, you always felt so vulnerable, so helpless. It was a feeling you never wanted to experience again. If there was a chance something was going to come at you just because of who your Alpha was, then you were going to be ready to fight them.
This morning started when you got out of bed like any other morning. A deep stretch to pull your stiff body from the warm cocoon of sheets and blankets, a shower, and then to the kitchen to start breakfast before the boys got up. Your inner Omega had become restless since moving into the bunker with Dean, and you learned that catering to the nurturing side of biology seemed to help the restlessness some.
Eileen, while also an Omega, was firstly a hunter, and therefore she and Sam would rather be doing things that pertained to that, and not so much domestic activities.
You had just stepped out of the shower, and into the towel you had hung waiting for you when the first cramp ripped through your abdomen. Your arms wrapped around your center as your insides twisted painfully, and your skin started to heat up at an alarming rate.
You had heard that it was going to be intense because you had been in close quarters with your Alpha for a month, but damn you didn’t think it was going to strike without warning.
Getting up slowly so as to not lose your balance and fall into a very embarrassing situation, you start to make your way towards your room. Even though Dean was the only Alpha in the bunker, Sam and Eileen were supposed to be gone for a hunt in southern Georgia, you weren’t about to walk into the library in your current condition. You just never knew who would pop up at any moment.
You didn’t have to worry about tracking down your Alpha, because luck would have it he was standing in the middle of your room as you pushed the door open, holding a laptop in his hand.
His nostrils flared and a deep growl permeated the air between you, sending a wave of slick to slip down your thighs, and your body to start shaking as you staggered your way over to him. Your body was screaming for him, and judging by the darkening irises he wasn’t going to need much convincing.
“Omega,” he purred, taking you in his arms and pulling you close to his strong chest. His scent and touch calmed the twisting in your gut, but only seemed to amplify the throbbing need between your legs. “I knew you were close to your heart when I walked into this room, but I didn’t know you were this close.
Dean dipped his head to root around against your throat, inhaling deeply as you whimper into his chest, holding onto him as if he was your lifeline, and if you let go you’d drown.
“You smell so good Omega,” he growled, dropping the towel from your trembling form, large warm hands tracing the soft curves of your body.
“Please Alpha,” you beg as another cramp rolls through your body, and even more slick slides it way down your legs. Every little touch his skin made to yours only seemed to stoke the fire that was already raging just under your skin, and you had never needed one person more than you need your Alpha at that moment.
“Please what baby girl? What is it you want from me?” he plays, knowing damn good and well what the two of you had been planning for weeks, and you almost notice a bit of that old tormenting demon just under the surface of the man that was standing before you. The bulge in his pants told you even though his voice was deep and calm, he was every bit as needy as you were right now. Still, you would play along with his little game.
“Please Alpha, mark me, knot me, make me yours, fill me up with your pups. I need you Alpha, so bad,” you whine to him in a needy voice as you guide his hand down to your dripping cunt, and his fingers waste no time finding your slick soaked entrance, a deep, possessive growl leaving his lips that made you weak where you were standing.
“Fuck Omega, so pretty when you beg for me. Bet you can cum for me just like this on my fingers your so fucking needy,” Dean teased, slipping three of his think fingers inside your tight channel, curling them, hitting that spot that only he’d ever been able to find.
It didn’t take long until your legs were shaking, and you were screaming his name as your walls clamped down around his fingers as he scissored you open though your release, slick coating his hand as he murmured little praises to you, one strong arm firmly around your waist, and holding you up on your feet.
When you finally came down from your high, and Dean was satisfied you were wet enough for him, he picked you up with ease, carrying you over to the bed that was only a few feet away, and dropping you there gently.
“Present Omega, let me see that pretty little pussy,” he tells you as he starts to unbuckle his belt and rids himself of his pants and boxers in one push, his leak cock slapping proudly against this abdomen as he rids himself of his shirt as well.
You moan in a needy voice you didn’t even recognize fully, getting on your hands and knees, pushing your ass up in the air for him on full display, and the sound he made had your cunt fluttering around nothing.
“Look at you,” Dean said, as he slipped himself up behind you, running the blunt tip of his cock through your slick before slowly entering you inch by inch. He was huge and the burning stretch had your eyes rolling in the back of your head as he bottomed out with a groan. “So fucking tight and wet. Gonna make you feel so good Omega.”
Leaning over your body his large hands wrap around your waist, and his tongue traces your mating gland as he pulls out slowly, slammed back into you with enough force to knock the wind out of you, setting a brutal but steady pace.
Soon enough the only sound in the room was cries of pleasure and deep grunts and growls accompanied by the slapping of skin together as Dean drove into you over and over again, hitting your G-Spot with mapped out precision, driving you closer and closer to the edge you were already barreling towards before he even touched you. His scent was everywhere, his hands were everywhere, and all you could do was beg him for the knot you could feel swelling and catching at your entrance with every powerful thrust of his hips against your ass.
“Come on Omega,” Dean said, through gritted teeth, his pace stuttering as his knot swelled further, making you feel so full, so stretched that you were almost out of your mind. You missed this so much, missed him. “Come for me sweetheart, let me feel you.”
As if your body was waiting on his command you feel apart around him, the tight coil that had built up inside of you snapping as Dean buried his knot deep in your convulsing cunt, filling your belly with his seed, his teeth sinking deep into the skin of your neck, bonding you to him forever this time, making you his fully. Not some broken twisted Demon that would only bring you more heartache and pain, but repairing everything that he’d broken and torn apart, making two damaged halves whole again as your bodies and souls became one.
You may have been no longer the devil’s slave, but you’d gladly walk through hellfire for this hero of a man. For the first time since Dean had been cured, you were home.
Dean may not remember everything that happened while you were mated to him as a Demon, and some things you would talk to your grave, but one thing he did know was that he’d never have to spend another moment searching for what he’d been missing since he’d come back to himself. It was right here, in his arms, sleeping soundly.

Make Her Mine - Chapter Three
{Warning: 18+, Dark theme, Smut, Fingering, Drugging, Mild Somnophilia, Non-con, Swearing, Choking, Mention of oral, Violence, Male Masturbation, Real Persons Mentioned}
Seriously do not read if any of this upsets you.
A/N: Okay though this started out as something to keep me occupied while I was without Wi-Fi for a week and never really planned on posting it, here at chapter three I would like to thank everyone who seems to like it and hope they get the same kick out of reading it as I’ve had writing it.  Having started out with an original female character, I have decided for those reading to remove the reader's name.  As such it’s now dark!Tony Stark x Reader and I figured it was about time I posted this chapter which was written months ago.  Hope you all enjoy it.
 Word count:- 2,490
Waking the next morning well rested, you started the day by emailing Sabrina the vague outline of your plan to escape Tony as well as how Sebastian might get involved should his infatuation prove stronger than you hoped.  Titled Operation Goldfish, you figured it was a handy enough codename to quickly slip into a compromised conversation.  Once satisfied, you then ordered breakfast before heading downstairs to rebook your room for five more days.  Getting off the elevator and walking towards the reception desk, you took a sharp turn back to the seating area when you saw Tony walking through the front doors.
'Fuck.' you thought, 'what was his problem.  Was his ego really so bruised, that he was determined to track you down?'  Looking around, you quickly picked up a paper off the table and hid behind it, while you waited to see what happened next.  Noting the time it was taking him to be dealt with, you instead seized the opportunity of his distraction to make it back to the elevators unseen, and quickly returned to your room.
Running through the suite, collecting all your belongings, you were just about to text Sabrina regarding the situation when you heard a beep and the sound of the door opening.  Heart pounding and cursing that you didn't feel comfortable having Sabrina retrieve your weapons as well, you slowly walked towards the bedroom door to be greeted by the sight of Tony Stark standing in your suite.
"Well Darling, have you any idea all the bother you've caused me.  Now I hope you're not planning on going anywhere after I gave clear instructions as to what was expected of you."
"How the fuck did you get in here and why are you doing this?  Is your ego really that fragile?" you asked, while quickly trying to assess how you were going to get out of this.
No sooner were the words out of your mouth however, when you found his hand around your throat as your body hit the jam of the door.  "You'll find being Tony Stark I can pretty much buy my way in anywhere.  Now listen to me very carefully, the money you're using to hide from me was earned in my employ.  That means Darling, that I own your pretty little ass."
Trying to hit him with one hand while using the other to pry his off your throat, he released you and you slumped to the floor, gasping for air as tears leaked from your eyes.  Glaring at him, your temper flared and you couldn't hold your tongue.  "So what, you think you're entitled to do whatever you want with anyone who works for you?  That is seriously fucked up and illegal on so many levels."
"Oh no, Y/N, not anyone." he purred, helping you up while forcing you to look at him as his fingers caressed your chin.  "Just you.  There's something about the way you think you're too good for me, that makes me want to see you kneeling naked before me while choking on my cock."
Disgusted at his words and brimming with fear and anger, your knee came up to connect with his family jewels as you reached your hand around the wall and pulling a floor lamp towards you, brought it down on him.  Though all this only stunned him, it gave you enough of an opening to hit him again, before reaching for your getaway bag and running from the room.
Not looking back to see if he was following you, you forgot the lift and started down the stairs as fast as you could.  Reaching the street, you made it two blocks before you felt a sharp prick in your neck.  Slowly slumping forward, you weren't conscious as iron arms wrapped around your chest and a booming voice told passersby that everything was under control.  Taking you to an Avengers controlled facility because of the publicity surrounding your episode, the next phase of his plan was to extricate you from those determined to keep you from him.
                   *************
Having received the unexpected call from Tony Stark, it didn't take long for Sabrina to show up at the facility with Sebastian and two of his goons in tow.  Being greeted by a kindly nurse, they were allowed to see you for a few minutes before being ushered into one of the unused offices where Tony sat waiting.
Closing the door behind him, Sebastian had to hold his wife back as she lunged at Tony.  "What did you do to her, you sick fuck?  I swear, if anything happens to her the full might of the New York Mob will tear you and your costumed freaks to ribbons."
"Firecracker, calm down.  At least let the man explain."  Sebastian coaxed, quickly glancing at Tony.
"Fine." she said, sitting in the nearest vacant chair while keeping her eyes fixed on Tony, as Sebastian took the seat next to her.
"Well it's good to see you have some control over your woman, but I wonder Mr. Stan, does she actually speak for you."
"Mr. Stark, please don't interpret my love for my wife as a sign of weakness.  While she may not speak for me on Mob business, where Y/N is concerned we act as one."
"Fair enough.  I was on my way back from a routine rescue when F.R.I.D.A.Y. alerted me to a pedestrian in distress.  I reached her before she could hit the ground and only discovered it was Miss Y/L/N when I saw her face.  I then brought her here and immediately called you, of course." he said, turning his gaze on Sabrina.
"And what exactly is wrong with her?  The nurse Charlie wasn’t exactly forthcoming with information." Sebastian stated, reaching out to take his wife's hand.
"That I'm afraid is a question I don't yet have the answer to.  F.R.I.D.A.Y. is running every conceivable test, but if nothing comes up, we may just have to accept it's something else and simply let it run its course."
"Something else?  As in stress related?" Sabrina snapped, glaring daggers at him.  "I wonder what could possibly have stressed her out that much?"
"Yes Mrs. Stan, I'll admit it, I didn't handle her rejection of me very well.  But I've since gotten over it.  Which is why I now intend to make sure she gets the best medical care my resources can provide."
"Mr. Stark," Sebastian interrupted.
"Tony, please." he stated, turning to face the mob boss once again.
"Tony.  Given the issues these past couple of days have thrown up between you and Y/N, surely you can understand our concern.  I don't think my wife and I are very comfortable with this arrangement."
"I totally understand your reservations, but as a Stark Industries employee she is also covered under the company's medical insurance, which means I can insist on the best possible treatment available anywhere.  I will of course be more than happy to keep you updated on her condition.  Now perhaps we can leave it there for today?  I have your number."
"Sebastian, we can't just leave her here with this arrogant douchebag.  This is exactly the opportunity he's been waiting for." Sabrina explained, locking eyes with her husband.
"Sabrina, sweetheart, his concern seems genuine and he should be made pay for her care.  She'll be okay."  Turning back to Tony, he looked him over once, before he spoke again, "Remember what my wife told you, Stark.  In the meantime, I'll expect regular updates." he stressed, rising from the chair and taking his wife's hand to lead her from the room.  Left alone with you incapitated down the hall, Tony couldn't hide the satisfaction he felt, knowing he finally had you in his grasp.
Suspecting that your friends didn't believe a word he said, Tony walked down the hall to your room where he couldn't help but gaze on your sleeping form.  Though the sedative he'd hit you with should give him until tomorrow to get you moved to his secret location, part of him was disappointed that it had come to this.  He had hoped when you left his office you would do as he asked, but it seemed you weren't as meek as you pretended to be.  Still, he did love a challenge and he would enjoy breaking you.
Leaving you temporarily to deal with the paper trail and the nurse, he returned quickly and went about removing what medical equipment had been hooked up to lend some reality to the scene.  Next, pulling back the sheets, he frowned at the hideous workout gear you still wore but couldn't help himself as his hand made its way up the inside of your thigh.  Though he knew he wanted you awake for all he had planned, he told himself he simply wanted to see how effective the drug was at keeping you sedated.
Reaching your waist, he gently eased down your leggings before running his hand along your panty covered folds.  Moving his hand up and down a few times, he brought his fingers to his mouth and coated them in his saliva before shoving your panties aside to feel your flesh against his hand.  Slowly gliding up and down your folds, he moved up every now and then to circle your clit before he poked your entrance with a finger.  Moving it gently in and out, he was surprised by the small amount of moisture this single digit was producing.  Deciding to experiment further, he slipped in a second finger and was rewarded with a tightness that wasn't there the first time.  Pumping his digits harder and faster into your pussy, he marveled at how well the drug was working, while still allowing your body to slick up his fingers.
Hearing movement out in the hall, he quickly removed his fingers, replaced your clothes and licked your juices off his digits before pulling the sheets back up.  Bending down to softly kiss your lips, he pulled back before whispering "soon darling, you'll feel more than my fingers and you'll never be empty ever again."  Then when a dead quiet once again fell over the place, he released his armor, eased you out the window and gently flew you to the secluded spot where his car was waiting.  Placing you on the seat and securing your belt, he swept the hair back from your face before shedding his armor, getting behind the wheel and driving off to your new home.
                    *************
Pulling into the secluded, underground hideout, he thanked all the gods above that no one knew of its existence or its connection to him.  Housing a garage, living quarters and state of the art lab, he knew it would be the perfect place to hide you until you finally accepted him.  Taking you gently from the car and depositing you in your room, he still had things he needed to do before you woke up.
Removing your leggings and panties, he hurried to your bathroom to clean you up after his earlier exploration, before slipping into his room to retrieve a pair of boxers.  Left to him, you wouldn't need clothes any time soon, but he figured after the hotel you might not take too kindly to waking up naked.  As a compromise, the drug should afford him time to wash your lower garments and return them before you knew anything was amiss.
Heading to his room to shower, his mind wondered how you would react when you regained consciousness.  Oh he could easily have tied you to the bed already and after the hotel maybe he should, but where was the fun in that?  The contrast between the meek 'Mr. Stark' spouting you in his office and the fiery you that had evaded him and attacked him in the hotel suite excited him more than any woman had in years.  He couldn't wait to see which you would open your eyes or what it would take to tip you in either direction.
So consumed was he by you that it took him awhile to realize his hand had strayed to his throbbing erection.  Continuing to pump his hand up and down while thinking of your tight, warm and wet walls squeezing him like a vice, his mind wandered back to his fingers buried in your pussy and working himself harder he came with a groan, his cum coating his hand.  Looking down at his release, he quickly washed up, exited the shower and changed his clothes before making a bite to eat.
Once fed, he headed back to check on you, to find you just as he left you.  Though fairly certain about the timeframe of the sedative, he thought it best not to dally and headed off to his lab to set up a cover that would hopefully keep your mob friends off his back.
His first act was to wire money to associates in Europe to make it look like his private jet had landed with himself, you and the nurse Charlie aboard.  Next was the setting up of a false trail that currently had you under the care of the best doctors in Denmark, no way he figured would your meddlesome friends travel there.  Then he fished your phone out of your getaway bag, while marveling at the amount of cash you had stashed away.  He knew he paid his employees well, but the ingenuity of someone your age to even think of something like this both amazed him and made him wonder why you did it in the first place.  But that was a mystery which could wait.
Unlocking your phone, a pathetically simple task he noted, he quickly cloned the whole thing and then, placing it back with your cash and passport, hid the bag in the lab's secret safe.  Once done with that, his next task involved combing through every voicemail you had in order to synthesize your speech pattern should he have a need for it at some point.  He also contemplated freezing your accounts, but figured that might raise some red flags.  When all that was done, he then redirected his business calls, thus making the whole thing look legitimate before instructing his A.I. V.I.R.G.I.L. to shut down most of the building.
Satisfied that his efforts were enough, he returned to your room with your freshly washed clothes and redressed you before settling on the couch to spend some time watching the gentle rise and fall of your chest.  Knowing it would be a while before he got to see you this peaceful again, he savored every minute until his eyes started to close and so rising, he kissed your forehead before reluctantly returning to his own room.  Laying down, he drifted off to sleep, wondering what the days ahead held in store.

To me, you are...
This is a heavy one so please go carefully. It deals with a lot of dubious heavy stuff like slavery and the relationship between captor and captive. And, to answer the anon who asked what Zarai saw Albus as, if more as a pet or a friend, here´s your answer.
I´m a bit behind schedule, so I´ll be posting them in the next few days.

Lunch breaks were the best part of the day for the albino. He would meet up with Sasha and Tony at the food truck down the street, settle down on a bench together and order two crunchy tacos Zarai would disapprove of, saying they weren´t real tacos, but the boy would gobble them up regardless. Lunch breaks were the only times of the day he could relax, after all. Even just a bit.
The atmosphere at the office had just started to get somewhat calmer after Zarai´s intervention. Albus’ cheek had a fading yellow bruise when he went back to the building with Sasha, talking excitedly about Sann´s progress with sign language.
“Thank you for spending the last Saturday with us” the albino said, smiling as they passed their cards over the scanner and moved to the elevator “He has been nonstop studying since then” he passed a hand to his neck, feeling the collar under his clothes “I’m starting to get worried I won´t be able to follow him someday”
 “Why´s that? We can always practice at lunch” Sasha signed perfectly after punching the buttons to their respective floors. Slowly so Albus could watch her movements perfectly.
“I mean, yeah, but-” the boy flinched when Sasha lifted her finger and shook it in front of him. The boy sighed and put his hands up “I´m just afraid I won´t understand him” he signed even slower, mouthing the words under his breath.
“You´re doing your best, Al” she signed using the white gesture. Albus cheeks flared up remembering Sann´s words when he gave him his sign name.
The other pet had put his extended hand over his chest and then pulled away as if taking a pinch of salt. Sann had told him it was like taking a part of your heart and giving it to the other person. A sign for kindness that meant white, perfect for someone like Albus, the other boy had said smiling at him.
Sasha elbowed him back to reality “Trust yourself you can do it, ok?” she signed with a gentle gesture on her face that made him smile as they came out of the elevator and walked through a hallway to Zarai´s office “Also he learns too quickly, it´s quite scary! I couldn´t have learnt to read and write all by myself at all, so trust me. You´re doing just fine and normal” she finished signing with a pat on his back the boy winced to before patting himself. “Just try to watch your mouth when you sign and…wiggle your eyebrows more, yeah? Gotta emphasize” she said walking away.
Albus groaned as he straightened up “I still do that?” he shouted across the hallway. Sasha nodding with an apologetic face. He sighed before he signed bye to her, already turning on a corner.
 He then took a deep breath and stepped into the large room and walked with eyes cast down to Zarai´s office, feeling too many eyes nailed on him. He just had to get used to the piercing glares and low murmurs in the air. He couldn´t make a scene again.
 However, Albus jumped away when he felt someone get too close and heard someone laugh as he recomposed.
 “Sorry, what´s it Jeremy?” the albino said looking at the blonde blocking his view from the other people as he stepped forward. He blinked amused when he saw Jeremy standing between him and the door.
 “Sorry, Sir. But, uh, Mr. Glass is inside the chief’s office” he whispered just low enough for both of them “Should I tell him to go, Sir?” Jeremy asked with genuine worry in his voice that warmed Albus’ heart.
 In the last weeks, he had stood up by his side and tried to not leave him alone. That got him some side eye from other coworkers, but he didn´t seem to care and he was still as efficient as always, just slightly more tired though. Maybe he thought he didn´t realize, but he was deeply thankful to find a kind person among the cutting edges the office had turned into.
 “Thank you for telling me, Jeremy. But I´m ok, go take your break” He said with a forced smile. Jeremy opened his mouth but closed it and stepped out of his way. He settled his hand on the handle and stepped inside to find Robert Glass with the framed photo on his hands, leaning against the desk. “Mister Glass”
 Robert´s eyes lifted up to see the albino closing the door behind him, smiling as he set down the photo back on its place.
 “There you are. I wanted to speak with you” He said, lifting himself from the desk and walking closer to the albino. “Oh? What happened to your cheek?” he said lifting a hand to stroke him, amusing himself when the albino flinched and he had to grab his chin to force him to look at him “Hey, hey, didn´t they taught you not to move away?” Robert said, feeling the pressure he was putting on his jaw underneath his fingertips.
 “Yes, from my owner. Not you, Mister” The albino said through gritted teeth. Robert let go with huff. Albus tried to shove down the disgust and replace it with his usual poker face. Couldn´t be too hard to force it up again. He had been doing it since he stepped out of the box after all.
 The albino breathed in as he saw the man walk away, passing his hand through the stuff scattered around his desk. All of it lined up exactly like Zarai wanted to.
As the albino saw his hand hover curiously around his things, Robert fixed his eyes upon another painting on the wall.
 “That´s not what you said with Jefferson was it? I mean-”
 “You´re not here to talk about me are you, Mister?” Albus interrupted him, his chest brewing with newfound anger. “Sann is absolutely fine now, if you wondered”
 “Oh no, I came to talk about you exactly” Albus frown grew deeper, eyebrows tightening when he put his hand up. “Don´t worry, I won´t touch you. I only came to talk” he giggled, picking up the stress ball over the shelf and bouncing it on his hands side to side.
 “You know? People think Pets aren’t people anymore. More like animals or objects” he started, stepping closer to the stiffening albino. A smile formed on his lips “I know some refer to their own pets as it, but do you know why I don’t refer to Sann or you like that?” He said in front of Albus. Lifting one arm up to trap him between the wall and himself. “Because you’re a person, of course” he giggled. Before he simply stared at him from above. Like a hawk above the trees just waiting for the perfect moment to dive for its prey. “Doing to you what you couldn’t to any other human… that’s the thrill of owning a box boy” He whispered to his ear, a freezing chill ran through his spine at the sickly sweet tone of his voice “Zarai knows that too”
 “There’s info she has been hiding from you” he began. Sweetly noticing the confusion in his face “A boxie can buy back their freedom if they pay for their contract”
 It hit him so hard, Robert was enjoying seeing his eyes widen with each word. He kept his grimace hidden and continued to explain to the dumbfounded albino.
“Of course, it is almost impossible to buy something when you’re not even allowed to be paid in most cases…unlike you”
 Albus breathed in deep. Processing the new info and checking if it was info he should believe or not.
 “Is that really possible? I-I-I could really…I could even-” Robert knew by the way his eyes widened that the question he had come to install on him had settled. Already knowing which words would come out of his mouth after that.
 “However” the man interrupted him “It´s a one-time chance thing. Only one contract each” he noticed the drop of sweat going down the albino´s face as his smile widened “If I were you I would think it more thoroughly, Albie”
 —-
 After her meeting was over, Zarai walked to her office and thought it was odd people stared at her. She opened the office’s door to find Albus talking with Robert.
 The boy turned his head to see her and then back at Robert “Goodbye, Sir” he said with clenched teeth before opening the door. Zarai caught his arm before he walked away and pulled him closer.
 “What’s going on here?” She whispered.
 “Nothing really, princess” Robert interrupted their conversation. Albus closed the door with a short sigh.
 “Then what did you come all the way here for? You should know by now you´re not welcome here” She said with fire in her eyes. Robert made his jaw work but hid it with a smile.
 “Zarai, darling, when were you going to tell him that he could buy his own liberty?” Zarai’s eyes widened slightly before she recomposed. “You let him win money, but you didn’t give him an object to spend it on. Doc Martin from Marketing would be really disappointed with you”
 “Albus, go outside and wait for me at the rooftop” she ordered the boy who quickly set off. Silence sat in the room as Albus closed the door “What are you playing, Glass?” She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
 The man snorted and whistled “I was being honest with him. Might want to do that more often. Do you even know what he said when I told him?” His hands shot up in a dramatizing gesture. “‘Is that really possible?’ With eyes all sparkly and hopeful! You might wanna help him understand that even if it is possible, he shouldn’t be showing that emotion” Robert kept talking but when he noticed she was quiet he talked again “Were you planning to even tell him Zarai?”
 The woman avoided his eyes, “…eventually” Robert laughed.
 “Well, would you have told Sann about it?” She exploded.
 “Don’t get confused princess. I didn’t give Sann the means to buy himself out of this. That’s all” he shut her down immediately. Robert gave her a sympathetic smile. “You are so lonely, so desperate to have someone on your side, you are forcing the only one who can’t displease you, to stay with you” Zarai inhaled hard “It’s alright though. I understand you better than anyone” he said stepping closer.
“Nobody wishes to be left alone, after all. Animals won’t help loneliness as much as a human would, so we buy pets for our broken hearts and call it love when they laugh with us” Finally Robert towered over her before talking into her ear the few words she didn’t want to hear ever “but they won’t ever be the family we lost, Zarai. No matter how much they look alike or how much they need to be cared for, they’re not Sirius, nor Jarred, Charlie or Fran”
 “He´s not a replacement, Glass. I´m not like you” she battled the tears prickling behind her eyes.
 “I know, he’s not that kind of replacement” he leaned to whisper on her ear “I know we are not playing the same game Zarai” he said stepping back as the woman’s head spun and pulsed with how hard she was clenching her teeth “You never wanted a secretary to help you. No, you never needed him to be your secretary” his lips twisted into a smile “You aren´t made of ice. You could´ve taught them just like you did with him. But you never would´ve been so patient with anyone that could leave would you?” he said enjoying the small frustrated gasps coming out of her.
 “¡Suficiente!” She yelled pushing him away. “If you are so sure of it, why did you keep Sann? What was the point in that huh?” Robert finally shut his mouth for a second. “If Sann is just a fake why keep him around?”
 “For the same reason as you. We’re so lonely we bought ourselves company” he admitted. Making Zarai burst into tears.
 “Vete” he stayed still “AHORA, Glass! FUERA!” she screamed before the man walked out of the office with a grim face.
 “You know I’m right”
 She slammed the door closed on his nose. She waited a while, trying to calm herself down, but the violent tremble wouldn´t stop.
 Suffocating and sweaty and feeling too heavy on her chest, she stepped out of her office and didn’t even bother to cover the furious tears rolling on her cheeks until she let it out on the elevator to the rooftop.
 She passed to the bathroom to put herself together.
 When was the last time she hid in a bathroom to cry like she was? College? No, a year after the accident. When she came back to work and all of the sudden after one of her meetings, she just couldn´t stop herself from tearing up. Then she went back home to cry on the kid´s beds clenching their clothes before she fell asleep. No, wrong the last time had been a few weeks before Albus came.
 She heard the water run as the realization roamed in her mind and concentrated on breathing in and out, in and out. Since he came to her life, she hadn´t had an anxiety attack.
 Every day for the last eight months, she woke up to homemade breakfast and a good morning, she went to work and had the exact thing she needed on her hand without asking, she went to sleep and her fingers lazily unbuckled the boy´s collar before he wished her good night.
  For the last months she had glanced back over her shoulder and found the albino immediately turned attentively at her.
 Her breathing hitched as tears rolled down without being able to stop them.
 For the last months, she always had someone on her side making her company.
 Just like she requested on the WRU form.
 “Ha ha…I really am a monster” she whispered to herself with a sniff “A lonely…lonely monster, just like he said…”
 It took a long time before she recomposed herself and walked to the rooftop garden where Albus was waiting for her.
 His hair had grown a bit and had gained some weight. He was not the dirty, malnourished box boy on a crate anymore. He was the best assistant she had ever had, and a simply adorable and promising kid. Her hands fell on the handle and doubt overwhelmed her for a second.
  In the end, Zarai opened the door and Albus turned to see her with mild surprise. Fixing his posture and face when he recognized her and followed her movements.
 If she asked him, if she let him buy it…what would he do?
 She had no other way to know than asking and her heart broke when the boy widened his eyes and sulked on the plastic chair in the roof, rounding his thumbs one over the other, before he breathed out and looked up at her.
 “I made a promise to you, Ma´am” the boy said calmly, crimson eyes looking at her as he wetted his lips “And I intend to keep it. But…I had enough time to think about it here” he looked around the roof, seeing the whole city under him but eyes fixed on the ocean beyond the beach. He turned back to see her with a light frown on his face, looking too young all of a sudden “I´ll make a request, and this will be the only one I´ll ever ask from you, Ma´am”
 As the breeze carried his words to her, she froze. She saw the way the albino smiled at her, a bold pleading on his eyes she couldn´t refuse. After a long silence, she agreed. With a big smile to hide the sadness underneath, Albus thanked her.
 The reason for their agreement would be completely secret from the other two, no matter what happened, both vowed not to tell either Sann or Claude about their deal.
 At night, her hands had trembled when she was supposed to loosen up his collar to sleep like every night. And the albino had looked at her with those big crimson eyes that softened as he settled her hand over his collar and she finished the task.
 “Good night, Ma´am, Mister” he had said before walking through the door.
 “Goodnight, Albus” she had replied back and curled closer to Claude.
 She would wonder later, why she had agreed to it. Why didn´t she stop him or offered the backup way she had planned to give him from the beginning, but she quickly found her answer when she looked over her shoulder and found, always found, the albino trailing behind her.
 She agreed, because for her, Albus was company that wouldn´t ever go away.

Chapter One
⭐︎ ashleigh’s masterlist ⭐︎ | ☾ ashleigh’s taglist ☽
*:·゚✧*:·゚✧
Ransom looked at his attorney quietly, like a small child waiting to be able to eat. Awaiting the rules that he will have to follow to be able to be somewhat free, to have his life back. To get out of this dump of a place.
“Well, the first condition, as they call it, is that you get a job, or at least a hobby, instead of just sitting around or blowing any money that you have on alcohol or the country club that we all know that you liked to go to…” His attorney looks at him, a little nervous about how Ransom will react to the demands that the judge has proposed that he should follow after his release.
“A job? Who would hire a criminal?” He asks a little confused before looking up from his hands back at his attorney. He chews lightly as Frank? Was that his name? No, it wasn’t, Ransom couldn’t remember… no, it was something beginning with P? Paul, that’s it! His attorney pulls out a flyer for a job but what catches Ransom’s eye more is the company name. Blood Like Wine. He can’t help himself when he snatches the flyer, his nostrils flaring angrily.
Paul takes a nervous breath at the sight of Ransom’s reaction. “You have got to be joking? The owner is the girl I nearly “stabbed”’ Ransom says bitterly and scoffs softly, rolling his eyes at the piece of paper, before sitting back in his seat, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Oh I know, but she specifically asked for you…” Paul says which makes Ransom raise his eyebrows at him. “She wants you to run the place Mr Drysdale…follow in your grandfather’s footsteps…”
Ransom shakes his head a little, in shock that Marta Cabrera wanted him to take the lead at his deceased grandfathers publishing company. The very company that Harlan didn’t want going to any of the family. But why Ransom? Why couldn’t she just give it back to Walt? He was the one who had been working there for years. He leans forward to lean his arms on the table between him and the middle-aged man in the cheap suit, running his hands over his face, sighing a little before he nods, eventually looking Paul in the eye.
“I’ll do it…”
*:·゚✧*:·゚✧
Once Paul communicated with the judge that Ransom would follow the conditions for his release and try not to go back to the way he lived before his arrest, being released happened a lot quicker than Ransom expected. By the end of the following week he was carrying the small box of his belongings out of his cell, towards his freedom. He clutched the box a little tighter as he walked past a cell where the inmates were shouting at each other, sounds of crashing of furniture came after.
“Drysdale…” The warden said, looking at the release papers before looking up at Ransom, inspecting him a little even though that Ransom was no longer any of his concern.
“Warden…” Ransom says and nods lightly, setting his box down on the desk between him and the office, glancing round as he reaches to sign his release papers.
“I don’t want to see you back here any time soon son, you are better than this place…” He says with genuine care for the first time since Ransom was incarcerated. It shocked Ransom and overwhelmed him a little as his own father never gave him such concern that he received in that one sentence from the warden of the fucking prison.
“Oh, don’t you worry, I wouldn’t dream of it…” Ransom tries to joke, his smirk faltering a little before he picked up his box and followed the warden to the gates to his freedom. The warden turns to Ransom as he unlocks the gates with his pass, tilting his hat to the guards stood either side of the gate as Ransom keeps his eyes down, only looking up when the elderly man patted his shoulder.
“You’re free Ransom, now live the life you deserve, not the one your parents forced you into…” He says, giving Ransom some advice that would be kept close to his heart.
“Thank you sir…” Ransom says before spotting Paul by Ransom’s Beamer. The sight of his beloved car makes his eyes widen and he walks over quickly, setting the box of his belongings down and he looks at the car. “How? What? My car…” He says a little shocked, looking at Paul as he holds the keys out to Ransom.
“You have a guardian angel out there, because the car and house… they are still yours” Paul explains and Ransom can’t help but look utterly bewildered with the thought that someone had kept the car safe and also kept up with the payments on his house. “Also…” Paul says before reaching into his pocket, pulling Ransom’s fully charged phone out of his jacket pocket, pressing it into Ransom’s hand. “Take care Ransom, my bill will be in the post…”
Ransom looks up from his phone, looking at the standard phone background he never changed and up to the retreating figure of his attorney. He unlocked his phone before finding that one contact he never thought he would need. Marta. Typing a quick message to her. Whatever you have done. Thank you.
Quickly getting into the driver’s seat of his Beamer, glancing at the box on the passenger seat he ignites the car quickly, a smile gracing his lips as he gets used to driving again. The car’s tank was full to the brim and was in perfect working order still, what Ransom loved, he drove the route home, for once opting to have the radio on, listening to whatever crap they played. He was still in a little bit of shock that he was here, back in Boston and not in the Massachusetts prison like last night.
As he pulled up at his house, his phone buzzed. A reply from Marta. You’re welcome, you’re still an asshole though. See you on Monday. He read the text and couldn’t help chuckle to himself, he completely understood why she called him an asshole and didn’t have the slightest doubt that she may never truly forgive him, but giving him the job at Blood Like Wine, he will take that as a start.
*:·゚✧*:·゚✧
The house was a lot bigger than what he remember, and too open now for his liking, but at least it wasn’t a tiny shared prison cell. Ransom set the box he brought in from his car on the coffee table before looking round slowly, remembering the life that he had to leave behind, cringing at some of his memories before noticing a note on the kitchen work surface. Your fridge and cupboards are all stocked up, someone had to do it for you. - Marta.
He held the note for a moment, before having to perch himself on a kitchen stool, overwhelmed that even though he nearly killed her (if it hadn’t have been for the stage prop knife) that Marta was still providing him with her help. He nearly killed the girl and she had a heart of gold towards him.
He finally regains his posture before shrugging off his suit jacket that they kept for him and he changed into before being released, laying it over the back of the couch and toeing his shoes off, leaving them where he took them off before heading upstairs for a well needed shower. The hot water will probably help. Help clear his head and calm him down.
Time to get your act together Ransom, prove yourself that you are better than that family. He can’t help think to himself as he turns the water on in his bathroom, letting the heat engulf him when he steps in, like a hug he has never had before holding him in their embrace, willing him to be a better person and know that he can change for the better.

Obi Wan/female reader one shot : Waiting part 1/2
When the reader is sixteen, she starts working as a waitress at Dex’s Diner. On her first day, she meets the love of her life. There’s just one problem. He’s a Jedi...
It had been a hectic first day. But you wouldn’t complain. Dex liked that about you. You just did what you were told. Buckled down, smiled at customers and only messed up one order so far. You just prayed to the Force that your natural clumsiness wouldn’t flare up.
The Force had a sense of humor.
One minute Dex had left the kitchens to chat with an old friend. Ordering a round of milkshakes. After setting the third milkshake on the tray, you carefully brought it out of the kitchen. But no sooner had you stepped out into the main dining room, the door of the kitchen swung forward knocking into your feet.
Your feet tripped over themselves and as your body twisted you gasped, seeing the tray flying, the milkshakes up in the air. But as you braced yourself for impact, you felt a pair of strong arms catch you.
You peeked open one eye. Then both eyes opened as you took in the sparkling blue eyes looking down at you in concern. It was a boy about your age. And he was gorgeous. Chiseled jaw just losing its baby fat. A perfect nose. You noticed two moles. One on his cheek and one on his forehead. Your heart hammered in your chest.
“Are you alright?” He gently asked, his voice a smooth, refined accent of the upper levels of Coruscant.
“Never better...” you gasped catching your breath. But then you noticed his haircut. Auburn hair buzzcut short, except for one single small braid hanging over his shoulder. Brow furrowed, you realized you hadn’t heard the milkshakes crash to the floor. You glanced around to confirm your suspicions. The milkshakes and tray were floating in midair.
And despite the romance the imagery of being dipped over his knee conjured, reality finally crashed in to ruin the moment. Your savior was a Jedi padawan.
“Hey hey! Looks like your Padawan has good reflexes Qui Gon!” Chuckled Dex from the booth.
Across from him, a tall Jedi with long graying brown hair nodded in amusement,
“One should hope so. Alright Obi Wan I think the poor girl can stand on her own feet again.”
The padawan Obi Wan blushed and righted you on your feet,
“Yes Master.”
“And you can stop showing off. It’s an inappropriate use of the Force.” Qui Gon added, a small wink towards Dex who chuckled, his four arms crossed over his shaking belly.
“Sorry Master.” Obi Wan flushed again, waving his hand. The milkshakes righted themselves and floated over to the table. Obi Wan plucked the tray from midair and handed it to you.
“Thank you.” You said, voice shy and small, eyes cast to your feet.
“You’re welcome.” Obi Wan nodded before sliding into the booth next to his Master. You nodded, returning to your other customers. But not without one last glance over your shoulder at the handsome padawan. It just wasn’t fair.
You tried to forget about the Jedi. But blue eyes haunted your dreams at night. Your mind reasonsed with yourself that the Jedi had a code that forbid attachments. But that didn’t stop your foolish heart from pounding in your chest every time Qui Gon and Obi Wan stopped by the diner for lunch.
It was no use. Having a stupid crush on a Jedi was just part of your reality now. Dex noticed of course. He thought it was hilarious. He made you wait on them every time. You were beginning to suspect he made your schedule out to guarantee you would be working when they came in. You didn’t know how. Especially when they started to go away on more missions and wouldn’t be back for weeks at a time. Once for a whole year. Not that you were counting the days or worrying or anything...
The only way you could cope with the crush was self deprecation. Telling yourself that even if he wasn’t a Jedi, Obi Wan wouldn’t give you a second glance. Oh he was polite and asked how you were, making conversation. But everyone else pretty much ignored you. You even had a customer point out one day that you just had one of those faces that just blended in.
You didn’t think you were ugly. But being a little short and your figure being a bit on the plump side you also weren’t kidding yourself. You guessed that was why you longed for Obi Wan like you did. You couldn’t have him anyway, so you might as well dream of the impossible.
But you also wished someone would want you like you wanted Obi Wan.
In a blink of an eye three years had past. And one day Obi Wan came in by himself. That was new.
“Hey! Obi Wan! Where’s Qui Gon?” Dex wiped his hands on his apron. Your heart twisted at the pained look on his face. Noting how red his eyes were.
“Obi Wan?” Dex pressed, suspicion growing with dread.
“He...fell in battle.” Obi Wan swallowed.
Dex shut his yellow eyes.
“Close the door Kid. We’re closing early today.” The grayish tan alien told you, pain evident.
“Sure Dex.” You nodded crossing over to flip the sign. You were the only waitress working today. Even your droid waitress FLO was out for maintenance. You hadn’t even had a customer all day until Obi Wan came in. The sky rumbled with thunder, the rain matching the mood.
“I’ll take my leave then.” Obi Wan nodded.
“No you sit. We’re going to honor my friend.” Dex let out a shuddering breath, entering the kitchen.
“Will he be alright?” Obi Wan asked you. You jumped hearing a roar of rage and pots crash to the floor.
“He will be. Just give him a minute.” You told him.
Obi Wan nodded then took a seat in his usual booth. Keeping to the edge as if Qui Gon was still beside him.
“Are you alright?” You asked, sliding into the booth across from him.
Obi Wan gave a stiff nod,
“Of course. A Jedi must accept death as a part of life. Less he fall to the Dark side.”
You lifted your brows. That sounded rehearsed. As if he were clinging to that mantra like a life preserver.
“Doesn’t mean it doesn’t still hurt.” You pointed out.
“No it doesn’t.” He conceded. You then noticed his padawan braid was gone.
“Were you knighted?” You asked.
He scoffed,
“Yeah. The council felt that anybody that can kill a Sith Lord after a thousand years needs to be a Knight.”
“A Sith Lord?” You asked. Obi Wan began to tell you the story. Of the Trade Federation setting up a blockade on Naboo and how they had tried to kill Qui Gon and Obi Wan when they came to negotiate for the Republic. Saving the Naboo Queen and the detour to Tatooine. The discovery of a boy named Anakin with a high M count, strong in the Force. Wicked political plots and the wicked Sith Darth Maul dueling both Qui Gon and Obi Wan. Qui Gon’s death and Obi Wan killing the Sith. Of Qui Gon making Obi Wan promise to train Anakin.
“So I was knighted and now Anakin is my padawan. I don’t know if I’m ready.” He confesses to you.
“Qui Gon believed you were.” You point out.
“Qui Gon also believed Anakin is the Chosen One.” Obi Wan sighed.
“Chosen One?”
“The one meant to bring balance to the Force. Don’t get me wrong. Qui Gon was an excellent teacher. I’m confident that he’s taught me well. But how can the kid that was once destined for the Argricore teach the Chosen One?” He asked.
Your heart swelled. So your Jedi Knight doubted himself too. Why was that so endearing? Maybe because it made your stubborn heart believed you were connected.
But Obi Wan needed a friend. So a friend you would be. You squeezed his hand on the table.
“With patience. Kindness. Devotion. All the qualities that Qui Gon saw in you.” You said.
He gave a small smile, eyes still sad,
“Thank you.”
Dex interrupted you, already swaying on his feet from the Spotcha he had stored in his office. The Besalisk poured a round of shots and you all toasted to Qui Gon. That night Obi Wan helped you get Dex home, who was in no condition to drive. Then he walked you home after the rain let up.
The next ten years you’d think of that night whenever you had a bad date or another Life Day went by alone. Oh you tried to date. But no one made you feel the way Obi Wan did.
You had one steady boyfriend once. A good man. A mechanic. But then you had blown it when he tried to kiss you. You had sighed Obi Wan’s name. He was kind enough to forgive you. Until he surprised you at the diner one day. He had been patiently waiting for your shift to end. When Obi Wan and Anakin walked in.
“There she is Obi Wan!” The thirteen year old pointed you out. Obi Wan gave a friendly smile. You had waved, biting your lips as you saw how the beard Obi Wan was growing out suited him.
But then you had caught your boyfriend’s eye. He gave you a sad smile. He knew. And the pity in his eyes told you he understood your dilemma. You were in love with a man forbidden to love. And while he had been free to love you, he just couldn’t compete. He had left and you never saw him again. You had heard he married a few years later, and you were glad. Meanwhile you would stop trying to date after that.
Funny enough that same day, after your boyfriend had left, you had approached Obi Wan and Anakin to take their order.
“Was that your boyfriend?” Anakin had asked.
“Anakin...”
“Yes he was.” You nodded, setting out their utensils, not adding that you were no longer an item as of five minutes ago.
“Does he think you’re pretty like Obi Wan does?” Anakin had asked.
You looked at the boy stunned as his Master admonished,
“Anakin!”
You glanced at Obi Wan out of the corner of your eye. He was shielding his eyes with his hand, neck and face flushed red. You couldn’t help but be amused. Anakin was more like a annoying kid brother to Obi Wan than student and teacher. You liked the kid enough, but sometimes his confidence struck you as arrogance. He was improving that attitude under Obi Wan though.
“I suppose he did.” You answered, giving them menus.
“Did?” Anakin caught.
“That’s none of our business Padawan.” Obi Wan softly scolded.
“I’ll give you a minute to decide.” You told them.
But you heard over your shoulder,
“Don’t you think she’s pretty Master?”
“Shut up Anakin...”
That stupid flare of hope ignited in you once again.
As years past and Anakin grew, the conflict between the Republic and the Trade Federation Separtists grew into a full blown war. Anakin was soon knighted and given his own padawan along with a command over a clone trooper squad. Obi wan was made a general with his own squadron. The Jedi visits to the diner were rare.
The war and Obi Wan wasn’t the only thing you had to worry about. You had to take several moonlighting jobs during the war. Once you were hired as a server at a fancy gala for Republic senators.
You rarely visited the Upper levels outside Coco Town. The opulence of the ballroom had left you speechless. Still you did your job. When you heard a familiar voice call your name.
You were sure you were gawking as Obi Wan approached you. He looked so dashing in his armor.
“Obi Wan!”
It wasn’t you that called his name. A tall, beautiful woman with blonde hair and rich robes caught his attention.
“Duchess.” He said. You heard the warmth in his tone. The one that matched his eyes. You turned and disappeared into the background, not seeing Obi Wan try to introduce you only to find you gone.
You didn’t really have time to process how Obi Wan had looked at the Duchess over the next few months. You had to earn a living. You started taking waitressing jobs in Coruscant nightclubs. Which required a lot of skimpy short dresses. No one noticed you anyway. So they never bothered you too much.
Until a familiar voice said over the chatter of crowds and booming music,
“No one told me the view here was so lovely.”
With a blush you turned to see Obi Wan once again in his armor approach you.
“Hello Obi Wan.” You nodded.
“What are you doing here?” He asked.
“Well between the taxes the Chancellor imposed on businesses considered non essential to the war, and the taxes that made my rent go up, a girl has to eat. Even Dex has a second job now.” You shrugged.
“Which explains why I saw you at the gala. I’m sorry I didn’t know you were working. I thought you might have been there as someone’s date.” He said.
You scoffed,
“Yeah right. Who would take a girl from Coco town to one of those Upper level parties?”
“I would be proud to have you on my arm.” He said. You looked up at him at that.
“That’s sweet. But I don’t have time for parties these days.” You told him, trying to excuse yourself.
“Maybe...when the war is over?”
You stopped and looked at him in shock. Did he just? No he thought of you as a friend.
“Well you’ll have to win the war first.” You recovered.
“All the more reason to do so then My Dear. And quickly.” He said, lips tugged up. Ugh. When did he get so charming?
“Obi Wan!” Ashoka waved him over next to Anakin, Senator Amidala and a few troopers.
“I should get back to work.” You said.
“If you get off soon or have a break you’re free to join us.” He said kindly.
“Thanks. But as soon as I get off I have to head home to get a few hours sleep. I have to open Dex’s in the morning.” You told him.
“Then I’ll walk you home.” He nodded.
“You don’t have to.” You shook your head.
“I insist. And don’t you dare try to sneak out on me this time.” He told you.
You gave him a mock salute,
“Yes Sir.”
He chuckled and returned to his friends, as you took a steadying breath. But you couldn’t help but hear the Senator ask,
“Will your friend join us Obi Wan?”
“You mean his girlfriend?” Ahsoka teased.
“Snips!”
Obi Wan sighed,
“Anakin do control your padawan.”
It turned out that it wasn’t just Obi Wan to walk you home. You were also escorted by a few of his men. Men that had chuckled when Obi Wan had kissed your cheek goodnight. Until a bark from their general made them snap to attention.
You watched him leave that night, savoring the kiss lingering on your cheek. A memory you would cling to when a month later you got the awful news. Obi Wan had been murdered.
You had wanted to curl up and cry for days after receiving the news from Ahsoka. Anakin was understandably too upset to even speak since it happened. But Dex had gotten himself kriffing drunk when he heard. Someone had to keep the diner going.
The diner was closed the day of the funeral. You had to go solo. Dex couldn’t bring himself to go to it. You had never been to the Jedi temple before. It was massive and almost otherworldly. You were escorted to a lift. Where the Duchess from the ball joined you. She too had tears in her eyes.
You were left alone in the lift together. When she asked,
“How did you know Obi Wan?”
“I work at the diner he liked to go for lunch. He’s been coming ever since he was a padawan. The owner Dex is...was...a good friend. He couldn’t come today.” You explained.
“Sounds like Obi Wan.” She nodded fondly. “He protected me during the Mandalore Civil War. Him and Qui Gon. Then just Obi Wan for nearly a year. We grew so close...”
She sniffed delicately into a hanky, not noticing how you turned green. Of course a beautiful Duchess would turn his head. You were just a plain waitress from the lower levels. A friend. Every moment you thought had been proof of hidden affection for you was just a product of your imagination. You had tried to push away a good friend because of some stupid crush. A stupid crush that he wouldn’t return because of the woman next to you and the Jedi code. And now he was gone.
The lift opened and you exited into a large open air chamber. Your breath catching seeing the body lying in state under a sheet. You only noticed Anakin seething in rage in front of the body. The look on his face gave you chills. The rest of the service you kept your gaze on Obi Wan’s body until the last moment he was lowered into his tomb that slid closed. The emblem of the Jedi craved into his marker.
Unlike other funerals you had attended, once the service was over the Jedi left. Regular mourners like you, the Duchess and Senator Amidala lingered to give final respects. When it was your turn, you whispered,
“I’ll never stop loving you Obi Wan Kenobi. Even if you never loved me.”
You returned home and back to life. A few days later, it was almost closing when a man entered. He was bald headed, and rough looking. A scar and tattoo on his face. Bounty hunter written all over him.
“Hi. Welcome to Dex’s. The kitchen just closed but if you want caff or pie we have plenty.” You greeted with a courteous smile.
He stood there staring at you. He made you nervous. But not afraid. Odd.
“Sir?”
He shook himself,
“Just caff.”
“Coming up.” You nodded turning to grab the pot. You startled when you found him sitting in Obi Wan’s booth. Sure others had sat there, but the way he sat now, it was just too similar. Too eerie.
Something wrong?” He asked, voice gruff but gentle. There was something familiar about it.
“Nothing. It’s just...have we met?” You asked.
“No. I’d remember a pretty girl like you.” He said hiding his smile behind his cup. He wasn’t that attractive, but you blushed nevertheless.
“Not many people would call me pretty.” You said.
“They’re idiots.”
“Well thanks.” You laughed, ready to leave him alone.
“Why are you sad?” He stopped you.
“Excuse me?”
“Did you lose someone?” He pressed.
You gave a short laugh,
“That obvious huh?”
“Who did you lose?” He asked.
“A friend.”
“Just a friend?”
You furrowed your brow,
“Not that it’s any of your business, but yes. He was just my friend.”
“I meant no offense.” He said as if remembering himself.
“Right...” you nodded wanting to excuse yourself.
“It’s just...I can’t believe a man would just be content to be your friend. I’d imagine...he’d wish things were different. More than once.” He said.
“Maybe. But not with me.” You said.
“Why not?”
“Well at first I thought he was devoted to his calling. A calling I was told didn’t allow for attachments. So I didn’t want to take that away from him. Only later I discovered he had feelings for someone else.” You confessed. Why you were sharing this with a stranger you didn’t know. But it felt good to confess it.
“Maybe he was confused himself. Torn between his calling and his feelings for two different women.” He offered.
“You haven’t seen the other woman.” You scoffed putting down the pot and leaning against the booth.
“Let me guess? Tall? Blonde? Regal?” He prompted.
“Uncanny. You sure we haven’t met?” You asked.
“I’d never forget meeting you.” He said.
It was the twinkle in his eye that had you shaking your head.
“Well. If you had seen them together, there would be no doubt on who he would choose if he wanted to give up his calling. They looked made for each other.” You told him.
“Maybe. But I can see why he’d be drawn to you.”
At your skeptical brow raise he continued, “Your kindness. Your selflessness. Your work ethic.”
“This sounds like a job interview.” You quipped.
“Your eyes. How they light up when you look at him. Your smile would haunt his dreams. Your laugh ringing in his ears. How you treat him like a normal man. Put his happiness ahead of your own. The other woman may have a strength, intelligence and beauty that’s draws him as well, and he does care for her. Deeply. But he can’t imagine a normal life with her. He can with you. It’s tempted him far more than she ever did. All he needed was a word from you.” The stranger went on.
“Who are you?” You asked. He suddenly stood, looking out the window. He exited the booth looking down at you.
“A coward. For not doing this sooner.” He replied. Then he kissed you. Your eyes widened in surprise. Then you melted in his embrace.
Before losing yourself completely, he suddenly bolted into the kitchen. Confused beyond belief, you tried to figure out what just happened. When Anakin stormed in, lightsaber ignited.
“Where is he?” He barked.
“Who?” You asked.
“Rako Hardeen!” He hissed.
“Who?!”
He growled stomping into the kitchen. Ahsoka burst in, out of breath, troopers on her heel.
“What’s going on? Who was that man?” You demanded.
“That’s the man that killed Obi Wan!” She huffed. You collapsed into the booth, feeling sick.
Hours past and you were kept there for questioning. Master Windu had come to question you. If you knew anything about Hardeen. What you talked about. You got the impression that he was trying to see if you were an accomplice. That angered you. It was Master Yoda that stopped him. The wise green Jedi master sensed the truth in you he had said.
“Forgive Master Windu and Young Skywalker you must. Seeking justice they are.” He told you as the Jedi left, a few Clones assigned to take you home.
“It’s not like I asked for a murderer to seek me out. Master Yoda? Why would he kiss me?” You asked, embarrassed. But you had to know.
“Hmm. To get in heads of targets, snipers learn everything about them they do. Saw your friendship with Obi Wan he did. Snipers known to fall for those their target cared about. Happens more than you think.” Yoda assured you.
It made sense. Especially given your odd conversation. Obviously just the man’s misconceptions.
“Hmm. Curious though. Why call himself a coward he did?” He asked. A secret dancing on his little smile as he left you.
To top off the strange day, after the troopers had cleared your apartment, posting a guard outside just in case, you dreamed of the kiss. Only when Hardeen broke the kiss, he had turned into Obi Wan.
You tried to get on with life. Work at the diner during the days, the clubs at night and on your days off. Hardeen was caught and sent to prison. You still dreamed of that kiss.
Months went by. Anakin started to come for lunch. His way of remembering Obi Wan you supposed. Only he only brought Ahsoka half the time. Senator Amidala was often his company. Padme as she insisted you call her. And judging by the looks they gave each other, they weren’t just friends. Which didn’t surprise you. Anakin had always been more willing to break the rules than Obi Wan had.
As much as you enjoyed getting to know them better, you still felt like a third wheel. When Ahsoka and the Clones joined him, you were more inclined to hang out. But seeing them flirting when they thought no one was looking you had to roll your eyes. Did they know how obvious they were?
But one day, you woke up with the realization that you hadn’t dreamt of the kiss. Maybe you were finally moving on. You fixed yourself a full breakfast. Then walked to Dex’s for the afternoon shift. Settling into the routine of taking and filling orders. You were mixing a milkshake when a voice you never thought you’d hear again spoke up.
“Hello there.”
You gasped, dropping the glass. Only it didn’t shatter. You looked and saw it was floating in midair.
“We really must stop meeting like this.” That voice said. You turned. Praying this wasn’t a cruel dream. For there was Obi Wan. His hair was buzzcut short again, his shaven beard growing back in. Smiling gently at you.
“That’s an inappropriate use of the Force.” You reminded him.
“Just say the word and I’ll give it up.” He said.
You blanched,
“What?”
He was interrupted by Dex running from the kitchen,
“Obi Wan! Knew you weren’t dead!”
“Hello Dex.” Obi Wab greeted before being pulled into a tight four armed hug.
The greeting soon turned into a celebration when Anakin, Ahsoka, Padme and the Clones showed up. You were soon given an explanation. Obi Wan had faked his death to go undercover to save the Chancellor from an assassination plot. Taking the identity of Rako Hardeen and even changing his face. Doing the timeline in your head, you realized something.
“That was you that night wasn’t it?” You asked him quietly.
“I’m sorry for deceiving you.” He apologized.
“But why?” You asked.
“I needed to make sure my voice modulator was working correctly. That if a friend who knew me for years couldn’t tell, then I could fool everyone else.” He replied.
Friend. Of course.
“And the kiss? All the things you said?” You asked.
“Well I like to be though.” He quipped, taking a bite of cake.
“I see.”
“You’re angry with me.” He stated.
“Maybe I am. After all Master Kenobi you did manipulate my feelings just to test your dumb disguise.” You clarified.
“Manipulate? I didn’t mean...”
“Next time try Satine. I’m sure she won’t be so easily fooled.” You told him yanking off your apron and stomping out, ignoring Obi Wan calling after you.
It would be almost a year before you saw him again. Anakin said he was focused on ending the war. Not that you asked about him. More than...six times. This time you suspected Dex had changed your schedule so you could avoid the Jedi. Until one night when you showed up for the late shift. Dex was sick again. So you would have to close up. Luckily you didn’t have to work the clubs tonight.
Only when you got there, you saw Obi Wan in his usual booth.
“He’s been sitting there all day. Won’t let me or FLO get him anything.” the other waitress Hermoine told you. You sighed tying on your apron. You still had a job to do.
“What can I get you General?” You had asked.
“That depends.” He replied.
“On?”
“If you’re still mad at me?” He asked.
You laughed softly, folding your arms,
“Believe it or not Obi Wan, regular people don’t hold on to past grievances. We’ve got lives to live.”
“I know. It’s one of the things I admire about you.” He said.
“I’m sorry about Satine.” You offered. You had heard it from the news. The Duchess assassinated. Mandalore under the control of a mysterious crime boss. The fate of the war up in the air.
“Thank you.” He said softly. Eyes sad.
“You were there weren’t you?” You guessed taking a seat.
“I tried to rescue her. I can’t say much, but the man who killed her is an old enemy of mine. He wanted me to suffer. I barely escaped.” Obi Wan told you.
“I’m sure she knew you did your best.” You assured him.
“She told me she loved me. That she always would.” He confessed.
Your heart skipped a beat,
“And what did you tell her?”
“That had she said the word, I’d have left the order.” He said.
“You did love her.” You said. But not me, you thought.
“Remember that year Qui Gon and I went to help during the Mandalore Civil War?” He asked.
“Yes. Satine told me. At your funeral. You spent a year together.” You recalled.
“We did grow close. And if she had asked I would have left the order. If I hadn’t mucked up our one and only kiss.” He explained.
“Mucked up how?”
“I called her by your name.” He confessed.
“What?” You blinked.
“She was furious. I tried to explain but I didn’t know how. I still don’t to be honest.” He said.
Your brain stopped working. You tried to process his words.
“I devoted myself to the Order because it was easier to ignore the fact that I cared for not just one woman but two. So I wouldn’t have to choose. That cost one of you your life. And it’s not fair. To either of you.
I only thank the Maker that no one knows about you. None of my enemies anyway. To be on the safe side a trooper will be working undercover here to protect you. You might have to pretend to be dating him.”
Obi Wan had grumbled this last part.
“Jealous?” You teased him.
“Very. But I promise you once this blasted war is over, I’m not going to keep you waiting anymore. I’ll leave the Order and we’ll figure out what we have. Together.” He stated.
“Are you just saying this because I’m your only choice now?” You asked.
He looked confused,
“What? No...I...”
You stopped him by taking his hand,
“Obi Wan. The Force chose you to have these marvelous gifts. To be used for good. Even before I knew about Satine I never wanted you to give that side of yourself up for me. I love you for who you are. As you are. I’ve dreamed of you wanting me as I’ve wanted you. But because you can’t live without me. Not because you’re scared to lose me. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s the path to the Dark Side right?”
“Right as always my Darling.” He conceded.

The Point of No Return
Tumblr media
Summary: Your relationship with Toshinori is put to the test after he refuses to back down from his responsibility for being the Symbol of Peace.
~~~
Mirai called you at work.
He never called you unless it was an absolute emergency about Toshinori. As thousands of worst case scenarios raced through your head, your finger jabbed the phone’s screen to answer the call.
Mirai’s frantic voice attacked against your ear like a massive tidal wave that crashed on the beach shore. He never paused to breathe, his words foaming out of his mouth with no end in sight. You barely understood what he was saying, but you realized something was wrong.
He was frustrated and that was never a good sign.
Through his hysteria, you managed to piece together the most important clues: “Toshinori…severely injured…in hospital…come down now!”
Dashing to the elevator, the only thing your coworkers saw was your swiveling chair and files carelessly scattered around the office.
You didn’t care how long it took you to rush to the hospital or the painful blisters you’ll receive on your feet afterwards. You’ll deal with that later. Right now, your beloved was in critical condition and you needed to reach him before it was too late. Fortunately, the hospital was only about thirty minutes away from your job if you walked—ten minutes or even less at the speed you’re going right now.
Shoving the glass doors open, you ignored the disgruntled screams of staff members and visitors before running up the stairs to the fourth floor. Skidding around the corner, your eyes spotted Mirai’s trembling figure in the middle of the hallway. Sweat trickled down everywhere on your body as your lungs gasped for air, but you coughed out the lanky man’s name. He turned and marched towards you while tugging his glasses off to rub his eyes.
“He’s gone insane,” Mirai complained and your eyes hectically searched for your lover over his shoulders. “I’ve tried to stop him. I’ve tried to make him understand the danger he’s in, but he won’t listen to reason anymore!”
“Where is he, Mirai? Where is Toshinori?!”
The sidekick sighed, pointing his finger down the hall. “He’s in his room. I told him I called you and that you would come. He’s still there, but I can’t stay.”
Releasing your hands from his suit, you darted to the pro hero’s room. However, Mirai’s fingers gripped your wrist and you froze mid-step. Sending him a confused look, the dark forest haired man weakly lifted his gaze at you like a defeated soldier coming home from war.
“You’re our only hope,” he quivered and the severity of the situation slowly sank into your mind. Mirai was pleading with you. “Please convince him…he can’t go down this path…he’ll die if he does.”
Die?
Oh, no…
Toshi…what were you thinking?
Mirai’s hand slipped from your wrist, watching you wobble to the same war zone he barely survived from. You gently knocked on the small window before slowly opening the door and sticking your head through the gap.
“Toshi, dear,” you whispered to make your presence known to him. Your eyes stared at your lover who was still in his hero form. The sky-blue hospital gown failed to obscure his enormous muscles, but you became alarmed at the amount of bandages wrapped around his arms and left fingers. You slipped through the ajar door and closed it to make sure you both had privacy.
Toshinori sat at the edge of the hospital bed with his face down. The fresh bruises and scars he received in battle covered his face, but that didn’t surprise you. He was All Might, the Symbol of Peace, the number one Pro Hero who was admired by everyone on this planet. Yet, the man in front of you was not the same one who graced the front page newspapers with a jubilant smile. No, he was your beloved Toshinori who was damaged and fighting his own demons right now.
You took a seat next to him, your hand intertwining with his unbandaged one. From the corner of your eye, his fingers absentmindedly twitched at your touch. It was the first movement you’ve seen from him since you entered the room. Your right thumb caressed his injuries on his face as if you had Recovery Girl’s quirk to heal them. A deep breath escaped from his mouth as he cherished your loving strokes.
They were heavenly to him.
Gliding your fingers underneath his chin, you forced him to look into your worrisome eyes. Harrowing light blue eyes gazed straight back at you, the usual sparkle gone. Sighing, you asked: “How are you feeling?”
“I’m…I’m not sure…” he admitted, holding your hand tighter with his. A deep frown fell upon his lips. “Mirai…he severed our partnership. He wanted me to retire as All Might and look for a successor who can inherit One For All, but I refused. I just couldn’t do it, there’s too much at stake.”
You were walking on thin ice. “Toshi, I understand how much being the Symbol of Peace means to you, I really do. But, you cannot neglect your health, my love. You’re pushing your body to the point of no return. Maybe…maybe you should consider retiring—”
“No,” he growled at you while yanking his hand away from your grasp. The cold reaction you received from that simple word left you stunned. Toshinori rose from the bed, hissing loudly as he clutched his stomach. Yet, he still trudged away from you which caused you to gape at him. As your bewilderment subsided, you felt your anger quickly boil inside your body. Glaring behind his back, you immediately shot up from your chair with your fists clenched together.
“Are you serious right now? Toshinori you are hurt—”
“I’ll heal!”
“You’re not invincible, Toshinori! You will end up seriously injuring yourself to the point that you could…” Your voice wavered towards the end and the blonde hero glanced over his shoulder with curious eyes, almost daring you to finish your sentence.
“That I could what?”
You released a shaky breath, your shoulders feeling as though they were carrying a large bolder for quite some time. “That you could die, Toshi.”
The man remained silent while staring at the door before murmuring: “So you know…”
“I don’t know all the details, but Mirai was worried for you!” You barked at your lover, fiercely thrusting your finger on your chest. “I’m worried for you, Toshi. Why the hell are you still considering doing this to yourself?”
“Because I need to!” Toshi glared at you, feeling offended and betrayed all over again. First Mirai and now you? His one true love? He began to shake from all the pressure that was surrounding his fragile state, but he powered through to stand his ground. “I can’t quit! There’s so much at risk if I retire. There are villains who can take over All for One’s place unless I’m there to stop them—”
“Do you love me, Toshinori?”
Your lips trembled once you brought those words to light. Now it was Toshinori’s turn to feel astonished, his throat becoming dry once he heard those five words echo into the open space. The pain from his injuries faded away, but his chest suddenly ached as if someone threw their own Texas Smash punch at him.
“W-what?”
“Do. You. Love. Me?” You gritted each word between your teeth. His bandaged fingers gripped his hospital gown while his wide, exasperated blue orbs pierced towards you.
“Of course I do!”
“Then you will stop!” You screamed like a madwoman, chest rising and falling as you no longer cared to hold back your rage. “For me!”
“I can’t do that!” He roared like a caged lion desperate for an escape. Toshinori’s hands flew to head and grabbed his hair so tight that a few strands possibly broke off from his scalp. You stumbled backwards at his answer while tears dangerously surfaced in your eyes. “I can’t stop being All Might, don’t you understand? The world needs me! They need the Symbol of Peace! They need All Might—”
“And you’re also Toshinori Yagi!” You bawled with pure rawness that you didn’t know you possessed. The tears finally flowed down your flared cheeks and you endured the agonizing screams swirling inside your heart. “My fiancé! The love of my life! Does that not mean anything to you?!”
“Yes it does,” he professed like a broken man. “B-but the people—I can’t let them suffer.”
It was useless.
He crossed the point of no return.
Your watery eyes gazed at the gorgeous engagement ring nestled around your finger. Toshinori proposed to you almost seven months ago when he returned to your shared apartment after a long and tiring day fighting villains off the streets. His All Might suit engulfed his skeleton frame as he opened the door to enter inside. You knew whenever Toshinori stayed late on hero patrol he would be hungry so you always made him his favorite meal.
The delicious scent of your cooking tickled his nose and he wandered into the small kitchen area to see you stir some vegetables inside the pan. Turning the stove off, you carried over two plates to the tiny table near the window which showed the clear, night sky. As you two ate in peaceful silence, Toshinori nervously shifted in his seat with his fingers tapping the square box that held the diamond ring.
He debated all week as to when he should propose to you. He never thought he would ever pursue an intimate relationship considering he was the number one Pro Hero and—most importantly— the Symbol of Peace. It was not easy balancing his hero life and an almost nonexistent personal life. He even thought it was impossible to find someone who loved him, the man hiding behind the All Might mask. The one who was more reserved, calm, and not exceptionally handsome.
But you proved him wrong with each day after running into him at the store during his grocery run. He was impressed with your witty mind and cheeky humor, earning a few chuckles from him. A few more meet ups at the supermarket and you, to his surprise, initiated the next step by asking him out for a casual date near the park. He remembered stuttering and his face feeling hotter than Endeavor’s flames, but he managed to cough out a yes to your delight.
Slowly, your relationship blossomed like a spring flower after the harsh winter months passed by. Whenever Toshinori doubted his worthiness, you always reassured how much of a wonderful partner he was to you and that you enjoyed being with him. For once, Toshinori’s walls were down and he felt at peace every time he saw you. Throughout the years, you were one the pro hero’s closest confidants, probably the closest one in his life, and he decided to let you in on his secret of One For All and being All Might too.
He expected the worst. But when your hand squeezed his boney ones and thanked him for sharing something so personal with you, he realized you were the one. Back at the dinner table, his leg anxiously bounced as you continued eating without noticing Toshinori’s inner struggle. The blonde hero pushed aside all his fears and bravely went for it.
Going down on one knee still in his deflated suit, Toshinori asked: “Will you marry me?”
You fondly remembered that night as your fingers grazed the engagement ring he gave you. The sun’s rays shined through the hospital windows and twinkled against the diamond. You proudly wore the ring, feeling over the moon knowing that you were going to live the rest of your life with Toshinori: your best friend and one true love. You were supposed to make more lasting memories with him; grow old together and die together.
Not watch him willingly die alone in a war he was woefully unprepared for.
“You already decided,” you sniffed through your tears. Your fingertips circled around the ring and fought against the turmoil brewing inside you. “You’ll still walk down this road knowing it will kill you. I thought you truly loved me, that maybe our relationship was important enough in your eyes to reconsider your choice, but…I guess I was wrong.”
Slowly, you removed the ring from your finger and held it up for him to see.
“W-what are you—“ he hopelessly stammered and faltered sideways when he saw the ring off your finger. The same one he carried inside his pocket for so long.
“You’re a hero, Toshinori,” you sorrowfully wept and you found it difficult to even speak now. “I always admired that about you. You might be okay sacrificing your life in such a reckless manner, but I can’t follow this path with you…I can’t stay with you just to see the love of my life die. Not like this.”
You placed the ring on the bed and Toshinori started sobbing. “No…please…please don’t do this…”
“I’m sorry,” you croaked as fresh tears ran down your face again. Your were suffering from a broken heart that was taking its last breath. “Goodbye, Toshi.”
Without looking back, you disappeared from the room and closed the door to a future that no longer existed.
☾.:°∗★.:☆:.★∗°:.☽
contrary to popular belief, bokuto thinks. he thinks a lot. granted, a lot of his thoughts are devoid of any deep meaning, like the possibility of taming a wild owl and keeping it as a pet, or the question of whether he should get two or three meat buns after practice.
bokuto thinks a lot. he knows this. his mind gets very cluttered sometimes with various random topics. that’s why when his mind started becoming a cohesive conversation of one solid topic, something was wrong. very wrong.
he started thinking about you. a lot.
when he first realized it, he figured he should look into it--find out what caused him to have his mind flooded with thoughts of you, your smile, your eyes, your hair, your hands, your voice and nose and lips--
then he realized that he already knew very well why he thought of you so often.
almost comically, he smiled to himself and thought, “well, i guess that’s that!” and resolved to never approach the subject again. confident as he could be on the court, bokuto was sure that if he ever tried to take action about his feelings, the result was sure to be disastrous. it was best to stay away from any fantasies of his.
that was hard to do, though, when you seemed to occupy both his thoughts and his day-to-day life.
you were in the same class--that was just his luck--and while you weren’t an official manager you had a tendency to stop by practice and watch the boys play while chatting with yukie and kaori until it was time to go home.
(he also often walked you to the train stop. fate really made the stars align when he didn't want them to align.)
though, he had to owe it to fate for allowing your seats to be on separate sides of class. at the very least, he had that relief from the constant pressure he applied on himself absentmindedly whenever he was in your presence.
during lunch, bokuto sped out of the classroom door and in a direction away from the cafeteria. you seemed to notice this quite quickly and darted to chase after him.
bokuto felt a warm, firm hand on his shoulder and the distant scent of peppermint. he cursed himself for not walking fast enough and wondered if he could jump up with enough fervor to break through the ceiling.
“hey,” you were smiling at him as you sidled up next to him. he was thankful he had your real expression right in front of him--the gentle image in his mind was fading by the minute and he appreciated the refresher. “where’re you going? i thought we were still eating lunch together?”
right. lunch. eating. food. the empty feeling in bokuto’s stomach reminded him of the fact he’d skipped breakfast after thinking so hard about his feelings and what to do with them that too much time slipped away to let him eat something properly.
“oh, yeah!” he forced a smile--”forced” wasn’t really the right term though, because with you everything flowed so naturally and so easily that he never had to force himself to do something.
“i was actually planning on practicing a bit instead of going to the cafeteria.” your expression fell the slightest bit and he scolded himself internally for being the cause of even the mildest discomfort of yours. “i’m really sorry for not telling you! really sorry! i should’ve texted you or something. i’m sorry! but i’ll make it up to you if--”
“bo!” your lightened expression was back and he, cheesily, melted at the sight. “it’s fine! i’m not angry at you. well, at least not for that. i’m just worried that you’re not eating lunch.”
uh oh. his stomach didn’t feel that great. it felt like there were a bunch of wild, frantic insects in there that pushed and pulled at the tissue in an attempt to get out. he thought he needed to vomit.
it was nice that you were worrying about him. you did that a lot. the reminder only made him feel lightheaded and briefly convinced that maybe it wasn’t a crush and actually just a really bad, persistent stomach flu that only flared up in the presence of the girl of his dreams.
he spoke through a smile that he hadn’t even noticed appeared on his face so brightly. “it’s really sweet that you’re worried.” his words were hazy and lovestruck. midway through the interaction he stopped putting so much effort in hiding his adoration for you. he figured maybe you’d appreciate it one way or another, even if it was just to make fun of him in your head. “but i’m fine! no worries! i’ll make sure to eat when i get home, promise.”
you gave him a nod, “promise,” and a quick wave and then you were off to the cafeteria. to eat lunch. would you be alone? when you both ate lunch together you didn’t really hang out with anyone else--as much as bokuto’s teammates offered to let you sit at their table, you were both perfectly content with just sitting in the presence of each other, alone.
dreamily, his grin persisted on his face and his eyes grew glittery and unfocused before his lips dropped at another realization.
you’d be alone. would you feel lonely? would you be mad at him for making you feel that way?
he made it to the gym already by the time he realized that. maybe this time alone would let him settle his fluttering heart and compose himself so he could be conditioned to tolerate your presence more often without drifting away into a bunch of domestic daydreams.
a sick feeling in his stomach persisted all through his spiking practice. it was less pleasant than before. his body temperature grew both from unease and the physical exertion caused by extra practice.
maybe he really was sick. in one way or another.
---
you showed up to the gym fifteen minutes into bokuto’s practice. the boys were still slowly getting ready, so you took the time to approach bokuto and hand him a small and weighty paper bag.
“meat buns,” you told him, extending the package in his directions. “it’s not good to skip meals just to practice. you still have to eat!” despite the scolding tone, your face remained playful and taut in a smile. bokuto wondered if your cheeks every became sore from grinning all the time. as much as he didn’t want you in pain, he was willing to give you all the face massages you wanted as long as it kept you smiling at him so often. did face massages exist? were they a thing? he’d study the art of massage for you and develop a technique, whatever was necessary.
“y… yeah…!” he responded dumbly. his was certain his face was unhealthily red as his body instinctively moved to wrap you in his arms.
hugs were typical between you two. it wouldn’t be weird, right? oh well. too late to think about it, since you were already embraced in the warmth of his arms.
“are you alright?” your voice came out muffled and gentle from the depths of his embrace and his heart fluttered at the way your voice rumbled through his chest. “you feel kinda warm.”
he was warm? he thought you were way warmer than him. though maybe he meant that in a less physical sense. he couldn’t tell the difference anymore--not with you.
“yeah, just kind of tired.” before he could ridicule himself at the fact that tired had no correlation to having a full-body flush, he continued to reassure you, “but i’m fine! i’ll make sure to take care of myself.”
he felt your smile appear against the fabric of his shirt and wondered if it was weird that he was willing to die in that position.
after a moment of relaxing in each other’s grasps (and ignoring the distant gossip of his teammates), bokuto pulled back with a grin, a nod, and the longing to press a kiss against your forehead.
practice was good. it felt easier than it had been last week, though he probably owed that to the visit you paid him in the afternoon. he came to the conclusion that running from you just to “figure out his feelings” was stupid. he knew what he felt. he didn’t have a single clue what to do about it specifically, but thought that was fine. it felt good to be around you--he’d be stupid to let opportunities to spend time with you pass him by.
---
apparently you sat with akaashi the day before, when bokuto was away from the cafeteria during lunch. he figured that out when he went to sit at your usual table only to find you accompanied by his setter.
“bo! hey!” you greeted, pausing the ongoing conversation with akaashi. “i forgot to tell you, but akaashi’s sitting with us today. he sat with me yesterday so i just figured the three of us could start eating lunch together.”
bokuto didn’t really think much of it. if anything, he was thankful that akaashi had kept you company and alleviated the ace of some of his lingering guilt from the day before.
he had no qualms with having the duo become a trio for the period, and found himself enjoying the conversation floating between all of you.
well. sort of. he didn’t really get to talk much with how exuberant you seemed to be with akaashi. it was nice to see you so happy and active with his friend, and the sight of your smile was enough to distract him from the unpleasant simmering of his stomach acid.
for the most part. he had to excuse himself to the bathroom in the middle of class to splash cold water on his face and try to subdue the uncomfortable heat that was certainly not reminiscent of his previous warming adoration for you.
despite how many times he urged you to go home early, you assured bokuto that you were fine with staying for his practice the whole time, ending your defense with a, “i really wanted to walk with you today!” and a smile that made him fall into your unintentional trap.
true to your word, you walked to the train station with bokuto, boarding the same train. conversation was light and typical, but his leg kept bouncing and heart urged for him to say something before everything imploded under the pressure of his emotions.
“are you dating akaashi?” great going, bokuto thought, the most discreet, subtle thing i could’ve possibly asked.
you blinked, and turned your gaze from your phone screen to him. you huffed out a lighthearted laugh and nudged your elbow into his ribs playfully. “of course not. we only really started talking yesterday. i wouldn’t date someone i barely know.”
bokuto’s mind went on overdrive, the news coming as a deep relief for him and making him ignore the blaring reminders of potential consequences that flashed bright and red in his head. his mouth spilled words before he could logically think of what to say and figured letting his heart guide, as always, wouldn’t be a terrible choice.
“so you’d date someone you do know? a lot? like a friend?”
once again, his words weren’t discreet in the slightest, but he had tunnel vision pointed in your direction, covering you in a sheer golden light like you were the only thing that mattered in that moment--because you were. no need for detailed thought processes or pros and cons lists that he’d briefly considered making (“that’s what professionals do, right?”).
your smile persisted, and he took that as a good enough sign to continue with his mindless stammering.
though your voice interrupted his next outward train of thought, and he listened with the focus of a child watching a television screen.
“what about this saturday? at noon? at that sweet little cafe near my house?”
bokuto blinked. processed your words with an intensity unmatched, even compared to those times he had to write those stupid DBQs and analyze sources that were way too complicated for him to handle very well.
you words were much easier for him to understand than college-level essays. much lighter, much sweeter, like agave syrup and orange zest.
“yeah. this saturday. that’s… great.”
bokuto wondered if it was possible to develop sudden onset asthma as you slid closer to his form, side pressed up against his in a way that felt much more meaningful than any casual touches from before. he lost his breath--felt like he dropped it--as you gave him a smile and let your hand casually fall against his.
(he walked you all the way home, which he didn’t usually do, but today wasn’t really usual. you asked if you could kiss him, and in a fit of overwhelming emotions he blurted out “i thought i was supposed to do that?!” only for his words to be muffled by your lips on his. bokuto’s mind went silent for the first time in a long time, only filled with a gentle buzz and glimmering stars that made him feel warm and dizzy.)
PROMPT: definitely just a cold (@badthingshappenbingo, 9/25) & golden decay (courtesy of @flashfictionfridayofficial, though not a submission for it)
“A fuss over nothing,” Hux bites out, sniffing. Doesn’t look that way from where Kylo’s standing. “I’ve got a cold. Dizzy spells and coughs are hardly unusual.”
“The flowers are unusual,” Kylo points out, not unkindly.
He finally spots Hux on the officers’ deck, en route to the living quarters.
Relief spreading through him, “General Hux,” he calls out. Hux turns his head with a faint scowl, slowing his pace just enough to let Kylo catch up.
Kylo’s stomach sinks at the sight. Hux looked the same as always from across the room; closer, the deeper set of his eyes turns his face skull-like, his natural pallor an unhealthy shade.
“Hello, Ren,” Hux greets him as Kylo falls into step—clears his throat. “How was your mission?”
“Bad,” Kylo admits. Hux’s going to get the full report soon enough; no reason to hide it. “Not as bad as you look, though,” he adds before Hux can comment on it. That’s not why he hunted Hux down. “I hear you finally dropped on your bridge.”
“A fuss over nothing,” Hux bites out, sniffing. Doesn’t look that way from where Kylo’s standing. “I’ve got a cold. Dizzy spells and coughs are hardly unusual.”
“The flowers are unusual,” Kylo points out, not unkindly.
Hux falters—steadies himself before Kylo can reach for him. Sending him a side glare, “How do you know about that?” he hisses, quickening his steps. “You can’t—you haven’t even been on the ship for weeks.”
“It’s the newest gossip,” Kylo lies. With Hux’s discretion, he doubts anyone but Phasma and the medical personnel has a clue—and those don’t break even under Kylo’s push. “I think there’s a betting pool about who it is.”
Hux’s nostrils flare, the tips of his ears turning an ugly red. “My private matters are no one’s business.”
“Your officers don’t seem to think so,” Kylo pushes just to watch his scowl deepen. “Would you tell me who it is if I asked?”
“Why? Did you place a wager, too?”
“No.” He wouldn’t even know who to bet credits on if there were a betting pool. The only one Hux is remotely friendly with is Phasma; but she wouldn’t have told Kylo about Hux’s condition if it were her.
“Petty curiosity, then.”
It’s not—
Well, okay, it is. Kylo is kriffing burning with the need to know whom the stone-hearted General loves so deeply it took literal root. Who could blame him?
“I’m only concerned for your health, General,” he redirects. “The First Order needs you at your best.”
“You can rest assured I am taking the necessary steps to ensure I will be. I’ve got a—” Hux nods at a petty officer as they pass, pausing until she’s out of earshot. “A surgery scheduled in two standard weeks.”
Breath catches in Kylo’s lungs. Surgery. “Is it so serious already?” How in the hells didn’t Kylo notice Hux’s health deteriorating for so long?
“Not yet; but why prolong the inevitable? The sooner these pesky things are out of me, the better.”
“But that’s permanent. If you follow through with it, you can’t love again, ever.”
Jaw locking with a click, Hux’s eyes dart around for unwanted ears in the empty hallway. “Must you speak so loudly?”
Fine. “Does it have to come to that?” Kylo asks in a lower tone. “Have you talked to them?”
“I don’t need to,” Hux says, waving it off. “I happen to know they don’t feel the same.”
Kylo scoffs. “You happen to know.”
“They’ve been chasing someone else,” Hux says tightly. Raising his fist to his mouth, he clears his throat—clears it again, harder this time. “Quite literally. Now, if we could kindly—”
“I could change their mind,” Kylo blurts out. He doesn’t have a clue how; but the thought of Hux with his chest cut open sets his stomach to fire. He will find a way. “Just tell me who it is.”
Fishing out a black handkerchief, “Leave it, Ren,” Hux chokes—coughs wetly into it, his shoulders shaking with the effort to get the flower out. Kylo’s heart lurches with it.
“I could take the name out of your head.”
“Oh could you?” Hux grates out, bunching up the fabric and stashing it away. Kylo only catches a glimpse of a gold before it disappears. “And what would Leader Snoke say when he hears you rummaged through my head for little more than gossip material?”
Nothing. Snoke doesn’t care about Hux as much as Hux imagines, though he probably wouldn’t like Kylo riling up his top general unnecessarily. “I could still find them.”
“How do you plan to do that? Will you quiz everyone on their favorite flower and compare?”
“Sure,” Kylo throws back, shrugging a shoulder. “Mine are Mysess blossoms. How about yours?”
Striding past Kylo, Hux turns to face him—Kylo stops in his tracks. “I don’t care for your insistence, Ren,” Hux says slowly, enunciating each word carefully. The fire in his steely gaze sends a low, odd buzz under Kylo’s skin. “I’ve made up my mind. I’ve got no reason to change it. As far as I’m concerned, we’ve never even had this conversation. Do you understand?”
His heart pressing hard against his lungs, Kylo nods.
Hux nods back, pulling away. “Now, if we’re quite done here, I’d like to retire to my quarters. You must have missed your bed as well, I’m certain. I’ll be waiting for your mission report once it is ready.”
Hux turns and leaves without waiting for his response, sharp steps echoing through the empty hall. A part of Kylo leaves with him.
The report. After that disaster of a mission, he needs to get it out of the way as soon as possible; but Hux was right on one account: It has been a kriffing long time since he slept on a bed. Things will make more sense once he gets some rest.
He hopes so anyway.
As he turns to his own wing, something on the floor catches his eye—the handkerchief.
He glances at the small bundle, then the corner where Hux disappeared. If he hurries, he can catch up with Hux before Hux reaches his rooms and hand it over without another word. That would be the end of it, for both of them; Kylo would pretend not to know Hux’s love is killing him and Hux could pretend everything is fine all the way to the operating table.
No. No, Kylo can’t—not with what’s at stake.
Kneeling, he picks up his best chance at finding the bastard responsible for Hux’s circumstances with careful fingers. Hux can make light of his methods all he wants; a person’s tastes in nature gives away plenty about their origins. If the flower is exotic enough, Kylo could narrow down the possibilities into a small pool with Phasma’s help.
Unless the object of Huxs affections is tasteless enough to like roses or lilies best, that is. Hoping against hope that he won’t find some generic plant, he gently unfolds the handkerchief, revealing—
A full Mysess blossom.
A/N: So sorry... but I hope the end worth it. The idea came from “Jack y Sarah” movie.
——————–
It was not uncommon for me to wake up in the middle of the night because a nightmare was plaguing my mind. Given all the things that had happened in my life, I was used to it. Sometimes I even missed them. But when I met (Y/N), nightmares stopped. Just like time stopped too. Things began to move in slow motion. Seeing her walk down the hallways of the BAU was perhaps one of my favorite things every morning. I made sure to get there early every day to watch her get out of the elevator, walk through the glass doors, and watch how she sat next to her desk. At first, of course, she didn’t know about my existence. That changed when she was transferred to our team. There I had the opportunity to speak to her for the first time.
It took me eight months to ask her for a coffee date. Another six months to ask her to be my girlfriend. Finally, one more year to ask her to marry me. Although the last statement is not entirely true, I must be honest. She was who ‘suggested’ we could get married. I only bought the ring and chose the moment to pop the question.
Our wedding was simple, only our family and closest friends. Neither (Y/N) nor I liked expensive things, despite Rossi’s insistence on having a big event. The memories of that day are projected in my brain as if I lived them over and over again. She in her beautiful dress, smiling at me and walking to me down the aisle. That smile. God, I can see it now. The same smile was on her face when I came late from work one day: she showed me a positive pregnancy test. We both cried. We had been trying to get her pregnant for months. We wanted so badly to have a child. When she told me, I couldn’t hide my bliss. I think I’ve rarely screamed in my life: that was one of these times. I lifted her off the floor with an embrace that could have lasted an eternity. When we told the team, the hugs and congratulations continued. They were almost as happy as us. Although we knew this meant a change in our lives and at work. (Y/N) could not stay in the field anymore and would leave the BAU for a while. Time enough for our child would grow up a little.
The months of waiting were like that: waiting. A beautiful wait, I must say. Every morning when I woke up, I had the routine of giving two kisses: one on the lips of my beautiful wife and the other on her growing belly. I tried to live the pregnancy phase as intensely as I could by her side. Then, of course, the trips for work continued, but we arranged to enjoy every moment of the process.
“Do you want to know the gender of your baby, or will you wait until the birth?” the doctor asked us when she scanned (Y/N)’s belly on one of the ultrasound appointments. We had both discussed whether we wanted to know or be surprised. However, curiosity was stronger in both of us.
“Yes, we want to know,” (Y/N) said enthusiastically.
“It’s a girl,” the doctor said. I couldn’t contain my tears of emotion—a girl. And although I couldn’t know why I secretly hoped my baby would be a girl.
“She’ll be daddy’s little girl,” assured (Y/N), staring at me and laughing.
-
When we painted the nursery, we didn’t want to do something very extravagant. Our main idea was to get a calm and well-decorated place to have everything we could need, so we chose light tones and some children’s figures to give our daughter a unique space—our daughter, to whom we still could not choose a name. Of the few discussions I had with (Y/N), this one was the most difficult. We both had many ideas but could not agree on any.
“Spencer, you can’t give our little girl this name; she will hate us forever,” (Y/N) said, shaking her head in rejection.
“But my love, it’s a beautiful name. I wouldn’t like our little girl to have a traditional name. She’ll be more than a traditional baby,” I argued.
“Babe, I know. But let’s just try not to be so inventive. Let’s do it for her, okay?”. She insisted again, trying to make me see the reasons.
Finally, we reached an agreement that made us both happy. We hoped she would like it, too, and not hate us as she grows up. When we talked about it at the baby shower, everyone was happy with our decision. That day was unforgettable. Our families and friends reunited for our little girl. Our little girl. Oh God that sounds so good. She must have felt all that love. I’m sure she did because that day, she kicked (Y/N)’s belly like never before. At the end of the day, lying on the couch in our apartment with (Y/N), we were exhausted but happy with all the love we had received. We don’t feel anything, but lucky thanks to the people that rounded us. Even today, I cannot be more grateful. That night we talked a lot about how our new life would be like with our daughter. We talked and tried to imagine what she would be like, her features, her temper.
“She sure will have your nose.” (Y/N) told me.
“Why do you say that?” I asked, laughing.
“Because your nose is beautiful and I love it, therefore, it is fair our daughter inherits it,” (Y/N) said with utter conviction.
“Okay. Well I think she’ll have your eyes,” I declared almost solemnly.
“Why my eyes?”. (Y/N) asked me curiously.
“Because your eyes reflect all the love that one can feel for another human being and because your eyes are kind and full of life. Because your eyes are what light up my life, and I can bet her eyes will light up our lives much more,” I said almost without blinking and barely breathing. I noticed how some tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Wow… you’ve never said something like that… and it’s true you have said very nice things to me, Dr. Reid,” she said, smiling. That night I showed (Y/N) how much I love her, and not just with words.
The following weeks were rough. (Y/N) was in her last phase of pregnancy and looked more tired. I don’t blame her. Our little girl was not making life easier for her. Also, I was away more days than I would have liked. I tried she wouldn’t be alone. Her mom and sister were near to her the days I couldn’t be. When I came home one of those days, I noticed her relieved face when he saw me.
“It’s nice you’ve shown up tonight. I already believed I was going to give birth without you,” (Y/N) said to me in a tired voice and sitting on the couch fighting for a comfortable posture.
“What? now?…” I asked, stunned. She started to laugh but had to stop because it was additional exhaustion for her body.
“No, not now. But believe me, this afternoon I thought it would happen…” she said with a grimace.
“Okay. I think the trips are over for now,” I stated as I called Emily to request prenatal leave. Birth could happen at any minute.
Those days I was home with (Y/N), I tried to make up for all my absences, for every day she had to take care of our daughter in her womb without me being present. I was the first one waking up to make breakfast. We cook together. I spent whole afternoons reading books to both of them. Without a doubt, that was my favorite panorama. I know (Y/N) also enjoyed it; we always did that on the days we had off.
It was early morning. I felt (Y/N) moving in bed. I could tell she was uncomfortable. My sense of alert flared, and I sat up in bed. I saw the pain on her face. I asked her what was going on. She told me it seemed like it was time; birth could occur at any minute.
After being paralyzed for a second, I got up quickly and got dressed. I helped (Y/N) dress lightly and wrapped her in a blanket. Then I took the bag we had prepared from days before, and we left, heading to the hospital.
I could tell (Y/N) was in pain. She was looking at me, trying to regulate her breathing. I told her we were close, to hold on a little longer. It broke my heart to see her like this. At that moment, I would have given everything to be the one who was feeling pain and not her. Our daughter was about to come into this world, and she was wreaking havoc on her mother. It caused a big contradiction in my head.
We arrived at the hospital, and they quickly set (Y/N) in a stretcher. They had her medical records and knew she was in her 37th week. Nurses began preparing her for birth. I also prepared myself. I remember calling (Y/N)’s sister and JJ, asking them to let know the rest of our families and friends. Nurses told me to wait outside a room while they prepared (Y/N).
Time seemed like an eternity. I began to pace a little uneasily until a nurse left the room after 37 minutes and almost 40 seconds. I hastened to speak to her.
“Can I come in now?” I asked anxiously.
“Mr. Reid. You cannot come in for now. We’ll have to do an emergency c-section. For some reason, we don’t know yet, she is bleeding a lot, and we have to confirm she and baby are doing okay.” At some point, I had stopped listening to what the nurse was saying to me. I wasn’t even able to correct the fact she told Mr. Reid instead of Dr. Reid. This was not how it was supposed to be.
“But they… are they okay?” I asked with more fear.
“We are monitoring their condition all the time. Now we’ll take her to the OR. Please, I’m going to ask you to wait in the other room until we have news.” Without saying a word, I nodded. I took off the hospital gown and sat in the waiting room to wait. I was just waiting.
I forgot I called (Y/N)’s sister. She appeared next to her mom. Then JJ came with Emily. Their faces were excited and anxious but changed when they saw me sitting in the waiting room.
“Spencer? Why aren’t you with (Y/N)?” her sister, Steph, asked me. I could only look at Emily and JJ, who immediately suspected something was not going as expected.
“They are doing a c-section now. She won’t have a natural birth”. I said, trying not to alarm anyone. Trying to convince me it was a matter of time to see both my beloved girls. I don’t know if my explanation made them quieter, but they didn’t ask me any more questions. They sat next to me, same as JJ and Emily, who made some calls. I figured the rest of the team was on their way.
The minutes became hours: precisely 2 hours and 12 minutes. A doctor came out of the hallway of one of the ORs and approached where we were.
“(Y/N) Reid’s family?” He asked. I got up immediately.
“I’m her husband,” I said with a trembling voice.
“Mr. Reid. I know your wife came here with a full-term pregnancy and was expected to be a natural birth. Unfortunately, after the water broke, a sudden infection caused significant bleeding, a risk for the baby. After a c-section, we managed to get your daughter born, and she is in perfect condition.” My daughter was born, and she was okay. A sigh left my body.
“And how is my wife? Can I see her?” I asked quickly. The doctor’s face suddenly darkened.
“Your wife is fighting right now. Her body has not reacted so well to the medications, and although we managed to stop the bleeding, her levels have not rebounded in the last hour. Believe me; we are doing everything we can to make her body react to treatment…”. In the distance, I felt how (Y/N)’s mother vanished while Luke tried to hold her. (Y/N)’s sister began to cry, and JJ sought to hug her. I just felt Emily’s hand on my shoulder. I couldn’t react. Fighting? But if everything was just fine. Our daughter was born. She also had to be fine.
“Is she… conscious…? Can I see her…?” I asked automatically.
“Yes. You can see her. You can see your daughter too.” I nodded. The first stop was in the room where my little girl was wrapped and surrounded by nurses who monitored her condition. With a bit of fear, I approached her. My hands were shaking. My heart was pounding. When my eyes saw that small lump moving restlessly, my heart swelled, and I felt an uncontrollable urge to hold her and try to calm her down. One of the nurses took her off the crib and handed her to me. So I could have my baby in my arms. With a smile and all the tenderness the universe could provide, I spoke to calm her down.
“Hey, my little girl. It’s me, your daddy. Sure you’ve heard me before. Yes, I’m the moron who has bored you for months, reading stories to you. That´s right, my little girl. You are everything your mom and I had been waiting for. For so long, you know? You are so perfect, my little girl…”. As I spoke to her, she calmed down. She was no longer moving uncomfortably. For a few seconds, she opened her tiny eyes, and I swear I saw (Y/N)’s eyes in them, a fraction of them at least.
With tears in my eyes, I was only able to return a smile. Fool of me, surely she couldn’t see that. I knew what I have to do next. Very gently, I put my daughter in the hospital crib and went to see (Y/N).
I watched in horror as she lay in the hospital bed connected to tubes and machines. I slowly approached and held her hand, the one without the needles stuck in it. Finally, she was conscious and turned her head to see me.
“Hey,” I said, trying to smile. She smiled back at me. Even in that condition, she kept smiling at me. She wanted to speak, but I tried not to. “No, my love, don’t speak. You just have to keep fighting, okay?“. As expected, she paid little attention to me.
“Did you see our girl? How is she?” She asked me and squeezed my hand.
“Yes, I did. She is doing great. She is so beautiful…” I said, unable to stop the tears from coming out.
“Isn’t she?… I knew she would have your nose,” she mumbled, trying to joke. That also made me laugh.
“And she has your eyes,” I added, remembering our conversation from weeks before.
“Spencer… you can’t to know that… she’s… she’s very tiny yet…” she tried to refute.
“I’m positive. She opened her eyes being in my arms. They are a little piece of yours. I swear”. Tears began to flow from her eyes.
“I’m sorry…” she murmured.
“No, my love, don’t say that. You don’t have to think about it. You just have to recover. We have to go home with our little girl.” I spoke, trying to cheer her up. And cheer me up. I was looking for hope, trying to believe that everything would be fine.
“It’s what I want most in this world,” she said in a whisper.
“See? Then you must go on, my love. To keep fighting. I’m right here by your side.”
“Spencer. I’m scared,” she cut me off in an almost inaudible voice. It was true. I could feel it.
“I know. That’s why I’m here with you.” A little silence filled the room.
“Please… tell her how we met. Tell her how much we loved each other,” she pleaded as tears ran down her eyes. I couldn’t bear to see her like this. Not like this.
“You can do it yourself, my love. I don’t have to do it alone if you’re with me.” I don’t know how it was possible to say words with my broken voice. But they came out. They just came out.
“Tell her that mommy will love her forever, even if mommy is not here. I’ll make sure to take care of both of you, okay?” She was trying to contain the tears, but her voice cracked.
“No… no… don’t…”. I started shaking my head, looking at the floor. No, this was not happening.
“Spencer. Please, look at me.” I knew I had to, but I knew what it meant. “You’ll be an exceptional father. I do not doubt it. Please be happy. Help our little girl to fulfill her dreams and be happy too. And you, my love, try to find your happiness…” she mumbled in an increasingly tired voice.
“But I already have my happiness. With you…”. I tried to refute, praying to anything to keep her with me.
“Sometimes plans have to change,” she said with a shy smile.
“Not these, my love. I don’t want to change these.” I kept trying to avoid the unavoidable.
“I love you. I’ve always loved you. That’ll never change. I was so happy with you,” she said to me as more tears ran down her cheeks.
“I love you too. I love you more than anything in this life. Please don’t leave me. Stay with me.” My voice was a prayer. A useless prayer.
“Don’t lie. Now you have another girl in your life. You’ll love her as much as me,” she said, giving me her last smile.
When I left the room, I could only hear in my head the beep sound of the machine warning her life had gone out. I was devastated. I don’t know how I was able to get to the waiting room where everyone was. I also don’t remember how I almost fell to the floor. My legs failed me. In the distance, I felt cries, hugs of condolence, words of reassurance. When I became aware of what was happening, next to me were Emily and David. Silent. That awkward but necessary silence. They didn´t know what to tell me. I also didn’t know what to say to them.
-
Negation? Yes. I locked myself in my apartment for five days and 14 hours after (Y/N)’s funerals. For five days and 14 hours, I dropped into my pain. Neither the screams of (Y/N)’s sister blaming me for what had happened made me move. Nor JJ’s words through the door, nor Penelope’s baskets, nor the calls of Emily or David managed to get me out of the inertia of those five days and 14 hours. I was also unable to see my daughter. Already discharged from the hospital, (Y/N)’s mother took her to their home. I had lost everything. Did anything else matter? No, not to me. Nothing. Never. Again.
I have some gaps from those days. I know I spent some of those days drunk, sitting, and hitting my head against the wall—the rest of my memories: crying and screaming. I didn’t even go to the shower. I hardly entered the bedroom because everything there reminded me of (Y/N). Her scent was there. Her clothes were there. Our pictures. Our books. And a deafening silence.
After those five days and 14 hours, I was on the floor watching the clock and how the minutes moved forward. Then I heard a cry on the other side of the door. My sense of alert returned from one moment to the next. I got up from the floor and opened the door. I looked down, and there was a baby chair with a crying baby girl inside: my little girl. There was no one else with her. I glanced both ways down the hall, and I didn’t see anyone.
I saw a handwritten note over the blanket that was wrapping her: ‘Daddy, I need you.’ I froze. My daughter was asking for my help.
Not knowing much what to do, I just managed to pick the chair with my daughter inside. I left it on the dining table, watching how she cried. I remembered the first and only time I had held her in my arms. I tried to replicate the same.
I pulled her out of the chair with trembling hands and started pacing with her in my arms around the living room. Maybe that could help to calm her down. Partly it worked, but then she started crying again.
I called (Y/N)’s mom, waiting for her answer, but I got nothing. Then I called (Y/N)’s sister. She didn’t answer either. I called JJ, who didn’t answer. I tried with Emily and David without luck.
It was only my little girl and me. And (Y/N) who started talking to me in my head. Telling me she trusted me, telling me I would be a good father, that I would do everything necessary for our daughter’s well-being. And I had already failed miserably. It had been five days and 14 hours failing her.
My head started going through all the books I read about babies, all the podcasts I listened to, all the conversations with (Y/N) about what would be best for our daughter.
Instinctively I took her to the nursery we arranged with (Y/N) before her arrival. I checked the drawers and started checking the baby’s clothes. I pulled out a bag of diapers. Yes, her scent was evidence she needed a diaper change. When I finished it, I searched through the things on the baby chair where she was when I found her, and there was a bottle of warm milk. While I was walking with her in my arms, I gave her the bottle, and she drank it with great need.
Even stunned by the situation, I didn’t know much more to do than walk with her in my arms as I watched her fall asleep. And that’s how I understood it. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what to do. It only took five days and a bit more than 14 hours for me.
While I was watching my little girl sleep in her crib, my cell phone started to vibrate. It was JJ who was calling. I moved out of the room, leaving the door ajar to answer the call in the hallway. I didn’t want to wake her up.
“How are you doing?” JJ asked.
“Did you know about this?” I asked back. Although it was evident, she knew what was happening.
“Yes, we thought it was time to bring you back. She needs you, Spence,” JJ said to me with a soft motherly voice.
“JJ, I don’t know if I’ll be able… I can’t do it without (Y/N),” I replied, almost crying.
“I’m sure she would disagree. And I’m sure she told you that too,” JJ replicated.
“Yes. She told me. But I’m not ready,” I mumbled with my broken voice.
“Spencer, nobody is totally ready for something like this. And it would happen with (Y/N) or without her here.” Yes, maybe JJ was right.
“How do I start?” That was a question for myself rather than JJ; however, she answered it anyway.
“We are going to help you. We are your family, after all.” She said, trying to reassure me.
“What about (Y/N)’s mother and sister?” I interrupted, realizing my little girl had spent her first days with them.
“They agreed with this. It is what (Y/N) would have wanted, and they want to honor her memory and her wishes,” JJ assured me. “With Emily, we’ll visit you now. We have the bottles you should use in the afternoon and tonight. Then we’ll go to the grocery store and clean the apartment - which I bet is a disaster right now. That way you’ll spend the first night with your daughter. See you later, Spence,” JJ said before hanging up the phone.
I returned to the nursery, where my little girl had started to squirm and was moving uncomfortably in her crib. I took her in my arms and sat in the rocking chair. I began to sway to soothe her with the movement. She opened her eyes and looked at me. And yes, it was (Y/N)’s eyes. There was no doubt about it. I could have sworn she stared at me like her mom the first time I dared speak to her.
Then, in a soft voice, I started to speak.
“I think it’s time for daddy to tell you a new story, my little girl. The story of how you came to this world.”
🎄 Day 10 of the Christmas project 🎄
Tumblr media
pairing : yunho x fem!reader a/n : i’m a day behind and I’m sorry, I really have to get ready for an interview, so please excuse me if I’m MIA / a few days behind 🥴
"Mom, I'm going!" You shouted from the doorstep, hand on the handle. As you were about to turn the lock to unlock the door, your mother appeared from the living room, her book in hand. "Are you going out dressed like this?" She asked, gazing at your outfit, a wrinkle forming on her forehead. "Well, yes. Why? Doesn't it look good?" You asked as you took a look at your outfit in the mirror in the entrance hall. You were wearing a burgundy turtleneck dress with a beige coat, thermal tights, and black boots to protect the other parts of your body from the cold. "Aren't you going to get cold? The fabric's quite light though," your mother's voice trailed off while feeling the material of your dress, shrugging. "I'll be waiting for the train in the station lobby, don’t worry," you reassured your mother and unlocked the door, grabbing your purse and exiting the house after greeting your parents.
Once arrived in front of the coffee shop where you were supposed to meet with Yunho, you pushed open the door, immediately greeted by the cafe's ambient heat, triggering a shiver of happiness throughout your body. Taking off your gloves, you scanned part of the cafe, looking for the slender figure of your date. You smiled when you noticed the man you were searching for, walking towards him. He stood from his chair once he saw you coming, his height making you feel small despite being in heels. “Ah, Y/N. Please take a seat," he greeted you, gently pulling up the chair, giving you time to get comfortable before pushing your chair closer to the table.
Yunho was a man you met through an acquaintance. This mutual friend worked at the same corporation as your date, and you met him for the first time on her birthday, a few weeks ago. Because of your busy schedules, the second week of December was the only time you could find a free spot in your respective calendars to dine alone together. You were the organiser of your friend's birthday party, immediately catching the attention of the man in front of you. You were smiling, beaming with happiness as you brought in the birthday cake, happily singing the famous melody to your friend, quickly joined in by several other guests.
Yunho had managed to intercept you in the kitchen to talk to you, but other people had come to interrupt your discussion, pulling you out of the room. You were forced to send a sorry smile to the man in front of you, but he just shook his head in understanding, surprising you a few hours later by sending you a nice text to suggest a date, the one you were currently on.
"Do you want to go for a walk? I don't know about you, but that drink gave me a full stomach," Yunho suggested, pointing to the empty milkshake glasses that sat on the table. “Good idea, I don't think it wouldn't go amiss,” you got up and put your coat back on, crossing your arms over your chest to keep maximum warmth against you as your date held the door for you to exit the building.
He walked beside you in a relaxed manner, following your hesitant steps on the cold ground, hoping with each step that you weren't walking on frost. Steam was coming out of your mouths as you continued to chat happily, your noses becoming redder as the conversation progressed. The young man noticed that you had started to speak more quietly, sometimes having difficulty understanding the words that came out of your mouth.
"Are you okay? Aren't you cold like that?" you could hear a hint of concern in his voice, his hand resting on your shoulder sending electricity through your veins. "Y-yes, yes, don't worry," you managed to mumble through gritted teeth, not wanting to let it seem like you were freezing. This walk was not as romantic as you had hoped it would be. However, your body could not hide anything anymore. Your jaw started to twitch, and your whole body began to tremble, trying somehow to warm you up.
Yunho's gaze grew more serious, looking at you with a worried face as he saw your teeth chatter. Now your body was shivering all over, and you looked at him with an embarrassed look. Yunho took his hands out of his pockets and loosened the cashmere scarf from his neck to wrap it around your neck.
"T-Thanks," you manage to say, and he grabbed your arm, gently spinning you around. “Come on, let's get you home. I don't want you to get sick because of me," he said and switched sides, walking on the outside part of the sidewalk. "Are you sure?" "Yes, it would be selfish of me to leave you like that in the cold," he turned his head in your direction, his hot breath gently brushing your face. "I think I have a train in about ten minutes," you stated while looking at your watch, your trembling fingers struggling to hold your coat sleeve. Your mother was right, once again. You should have dressed warmer, but your urge to impress the man in front of you was more exciting than being warm in comfortable clothes.
"I'll drive you back home, I think it will be more convenient. The train station doesn't have a place to shield yourself from the cold," Yunho suggested, and you felt warmth flush your cheeks. Not only did he just give you his scarf, but he also wants to be your personal driver? "But are you sure? This is the opposite direction from where you live,” you whispered, and he shook his head with a smile. "If that means I can be with you longer, I'm happy to take the detour," he replied with a big smile, and you chuckled in embarrassment, surprised at his flirtatious words.
"My dear, after you," he opened the passenger door of a black sedan, motioning for you to get inside. He closed the door and walked around the vehicle to come and sit next to you, putting his hands on the steering wheel. "Let me just check something," he leaned over, reaching out to open the glove box, his fingertips lightly brushing your knee. He pulled out two heated pads and handed them to you, thanking him with a big smile. "Keep this in your hands until the car warms up," he said as he pressed a few buttons on the dashboard, lukewarm air-conditioning bursting from the cracks in front of you. Before closing the glove compartment, he took out a glasses case and put them on before closing the compartment to your knees.
A few minutes after leaving for your parents' house, you felt a gentle warmness progressively spreading in your back, feeling the seat heat up. You smiled while looking at Yunho, who focused on the road. He glanced briefly in your direction and smiled back, asking you again if you were feeling any better.
“I'm warming up, it's so nice to do all of this for me,” you looked straight ahead and watched a car overtake you on the motorway, paying little attention to it. "That's okay, I wasn't going to let you freeze at the station while waiting for your train to come home," he replied with a smile, his right hand sliding off the gearshift to rest gently on your knee. The gesture was gentle, with no ulterior motive. It was meant to be soft and comforting, his action sending a wave of heat to your cheeks. "Thank you," you whispered and noticed Yunho smirk, his thumb mindlessly brushing the cool skin of your leg, your date smirking as he felt the chills rise on your skin. His actions made your heart pound, feeling a wave of heat spread from your face to your neck.
Yunho had returned his attention to the road, his gaze glancing at the speedometer as the car was propelled at fairly high speed. He drove carefully but still fast, his dexterity and ease at handling the wheel made you feel safe. You also had to admit that seeing your date with glasses didn't leave you indifferent, your stomach twitching, finding him even more charming with the rims perched on his nose.
After a few more minutes of driving, he took a motorway slip road and entered a neighbourhood, guiding him through the blocks to yours, parking his car in the driveway. Your date turned the ignition off, and you fell silent, the warm imprint of Yunho's hand on your knee vanishing as he pulled it off to rest it on the wheel. You stifled a chuckle as you saw the curtains on the living room windows discreetly open, very briefly making out your mother's face between the curtains.
"I think you are expected," your driver followed your gaze and laughed. You turned to him awkwardly, but he seemed too amused by the situation to find it embarrassing. "It was great, I had a nice time with you," you said after a few seconds of silence, your breathing serving as background noise. He shifted in his seat to face you, a thin smile decorating his lips. "I had a lot of fun meeting you outside of our text messages," his smile was as bright and warm as the sun, seeing him so happy made you grin too.
You pursed your lips, anticipating his next move. Was he going to kiss you? On the mouth or the cheek? Was he just going to hug you before asking you out? "Alright, I'll get going," you whispered, feeling a hint of disappointment flaring in your heart when he hadn't done anything. You gave him one last smile before getting out of the car, the coldness of the night welcoming you in a cold hug.
“Y/N, wait,” Yunho got out of the car as well and joined you on the sidewalk, sinking his hands in his coat pockets. You saw him take a fairly deep breath, his eyes roaming your face without stopping in a specific place. You swallowed and kept your gaze on him as you could almost see his brain boil. "What-" you said as he wrapped his long arms around your shoulders in a warm hug, leaving you little to no choice to close your arms around him. You felt Yunho let out a small sigh of relief, simpering against his chest when you realised that he is just as nervous as you are.
Feeling that your back was starting to ache, you put your hands on his chest to pull yourself away slightly, his arms falling from your shoulders to hug your waist. Your heart fluttered as you looked at him with a shy smile, glad you got to exchange that embrace with him. He brought his face closer to yours and placed a delicate kiss on your temple before letting you go to the door of your house.
“Drive home safely,” you turned around one last time, smiling, twisting the doorknob after unlocking it. He thanked you and went back in his car as you entered your house, letting out a sigh of relief as the warmth of your home greeted you with open arms. Not hearing Yunho leave immediately, you went up to your room to freshen up before going to bed and looked out your bedroom window.
A few feet below, Yunho was smiling like a kid at the funfair, laughing to himself in his car, proud that he was brave enough to give you a kiss on the forehead. Yunho smiled to himself and embarrassingly scratched the back of his neck, feeling all giddy at your actions and walked away, happy that the first date with you went well. You spent the rest of the entire evening chatting via text messages, sending love to each other back and forth. He couldn’t wait for your next date. And that’s exactly what he asked you right before you were about to wish him goodnight.
From Yunho 🧸 : “Monday 14th at 6:30pm for our second date, what do you say?” “Sounds perfect to me!”
The Scientist’s Gamble - Part 2
Tumblr media
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
Summary: As the formation rides out, Hanji takes a moment to meet your eyes, and you smile at her. Today is going to be a win for humanity, you think to yourself. You could not be more wrong.
AO3 Version! | Wattpad Version!
After an hour or so peacefully riding your horses towards the forest, you begin to feel the floor shaking in the distance. Not long after, the first red flare is fired. A Titan. Thinking back on your knowledge acquired studying Titans with Hanji, you know it is a 5m from the way the ground is trembling - not tall enough that it will necessarily take more than a couple of Scouts to kill, but could still cause damage if it wasn't stopped in time.
You move your face to the right, enough so you can look at Hanji to see if this is the one she wants. She shakes her head - she doesn't want a regular titan. You know that that crazy look in her eyes can only mean one thing. She's after an Abnormal. Goosebumps travel up and down your body, and you reposition yourself on your horse to face forward once again. Without even realizing it, a smug smirk spreads across your face. This is going to be so fun!
"Reiner! - " you scream. Your throat hurts from the effort you put into the sound, yet you still prepare yourself to do it again.
" - I need you to ride to the center of the formation. Inform the Commander that if an Abnormal appears, bring it closer to us. Tell them they should not kill it unless absolutely necessary!"
"Of course," Reiner screams back, allowing his cloak to fall back against his shoulders. His blonde hair ruffles in the wind, a ridiculous smile plastered across his face, "but I'm just curious," he says, and you know exactly what's about to come out of his mouth before he says it as he yells, "Who the fuck put you in charge?"
Before you even have time to laugh at his stupid comeback, the beautiful brown haired scientist riding alongside you responds, "I did!"
Eyes wide, his lips scrunch up as he turns away to avoid eye contact with you and Hanji.
"Now go, Reiner!" Hanji says.
"Yes ma'am!", is all he says before he steers his horse left and rides out of sight. He doesn't give you the chance to say anything in response.
You can feel the laughter bubbling up in your chest, from deep in your throat to burst out of your mouth. You try to hold it in until the blonde soldier is out of sight, but you know he can hear you.
Tears form in your eyes as your stomach starts to hurt. You just can't keep it in. The look on Reiner's face is the funniest thing you've seen in a long while. Once you finally manage to slow down and take a deep breath to pull yourself together, you look over to Hanji to find she's been carefully watching you the whole time.
"Thank you for defending me!", you shout, flashing her the biggest smile you can manage.
"Of course! I'm not going to let anyone undermine you! You are my second in command right now! You know me better than anyone else! That's what makes you such an amazing assistant," her grin widens, "and an amazing friend!"
You can feel the heat rising in your cheeks once again, but before you can reply, you notice something in the corner of your eye.
It's a black flare.
You and Hanji lock eyes for a brief moment before you both let out an excited scream at the same time - "LET'S GO!"
.
You can see it now. The Titan is easily 7 meters tall, if not taller. It has blonde hair and brown eyes, and a relatively normally-proportioned body and facial features, but you notice it's walking with a strange limp. At its ankles, the Titan's feet were pointed in the opposite direction they should be. Yet, it runs ahead eagerly as if nothing is different. You've never even thought this was possible.
Perfect! You think to yourself.
You stand up on your horse and switch to your 3D maneuver gear. You shoot your grapples around the top of a tree branch and swing on top to land on your feet with a sense of balance that you're proud of. Multiple horses ride toward where you and the rest of the Scouts stand above them. The massive titan follows the Scouts closely, too close for anyone's comfort, but they're not giving up.
Once the monster is close enough, you and Hanji share a look before you run towards it, preparing yourselves to jump down on its shoulders, cut off its limbs, and strap it to the floor before it regenerates.
Data collected on previous missions showed that it takes approximately 4 minutes for its arms to regenerate, but it shouldn't take you that long to trap it. You're all extremely prepared for this, you've practiced for this and almost every other situation.
Now it's the time to prove you know what you're doing - except nothing could have prepared you for what came next.
The trap used to capture the titan is a fraction of a second late. You're already in the air, arms flung back in preparation to cut its underarm when you notice something is wrong.
Everything happens in slow motion as you see it's massive arm intercept the cables of your grapples, yanking you like a yo-yo across the trees. Your body collides against one of the many enormous trees surrounding you. The pain shoots all over your body. It is too intense, and your vision gets more clouded by the second. You could hear Hanji screaming your name, but you didn't stay conscious for much longer than that.
A few minutes pass by, but the damage caused by the titan makes it seem like much longer. You could see bodies all around you, at least 10, 15. Your comrades, your friends, dead because of a mistake out of your control.
Huh?  you think, and that's all that goes through your brain at moment. There is blood dripping down your face, and you're unable to tell if it's yours, the Titan's, or to one of the many bodies lying next to you.
A 5m titan wanders closer to you with every second, and somehow you manage to pull all the strength left in you. Your body is finally forced to sit up, despite all the pain, in your head, your bones, your heart.
"Why is this happening? This is not how today was supposed to go. We prepared for this expedition for weeks!" suddenly you stop talking. Your mind starts spinning as you desperately look amongst the pile of bodies, searching for one in particular.
"H-Hanji?" you manage to force out a whisper, but as soon as you take a deep breath, all the pain you were feeling, the grief for your fallen comrades, the rage towards titans, "HANJI!"
As you become more aware of your surroundings, the warm blood dripping down your face and the pain of your broken ribs are almost enough to make you stop fighting, but a small voice in the back of your head says: You need to find a way out of this forest and back home. You can't let the titans win!
You grab your blades and swing them with all your might, trying your hardest to keep the 5M Titan away for as long as you can until you have a plan. The truth is you just can't die now, but you also can't fight for much longer as you feel your body starting to cave in. The pain from your ribs is becoming unbearable, and your lungs feel like they will collapse at any moment. With every breath is getting harder to breathe. You want to keep fighting for longer, but in your condition, it just doesn't seem possible.
It's alright Y/N, you think to yourself, Your efforts weren't enough, but that's ok. Putting the blade down, you accept your fate, but hopefully, it will be quick. You close your eyes as the massive hands wrap around your already crushed body.
"Oh no, you don't!" someone screams, and their voice is the last thing you hear before passing out once again.
.
You wake up to a bright light shining in your face. Your eyes open slowly, groggily.
Is this the afterlife? No. You can hear the saline dripping, in what kind of afterlife would you be hooked up to an IV in?
The pain in your head travels all over your body as if it's using your veins to move around. You try to readjust, but stop when a new pain shoots through your chest. You count one, two, three broken ribs. It could be worse. At least you're still alive. Your eyes slowly travel down the bruises that cover your body. Some scratches, stitches, broken fingers and toes. You are not even certain that you still have all of your teeth.
The shape beside you shifts ever so slightly, but it's enough to catch your attention. You turn to look, and into focus comes Hanji. Her head lay on her arms, which rest on top of your mattress next to your right hand. This is one of the few times you've ever seen her hair down - it looks a little messy, but it's still as beautiful as ever. Her glasses are folded on the bedside table in front of her. How long has she been sitting here?
"Han...ji..?" The effort you put into making the sound for only her name to come out is considerable. It scratches and burns, to your frustration, but the weak noise is enough to get her attention.
"You're awake!" she says as tears fill her tired brown eyes. "I was so worried about you - please don't ever do that to me again!" A small hiccup forms in the back of her throat. Her lower lip quivers.
The mere sight of Hanji crying is enough to shatter your heart. You try your best to comfort her within your confines. You reach to touch her hand, eyes softening. The sharp pain of your ribs again forces you to gently recline your back on your pillow once again, but you hold her hand tightly.
"What happened?" you ask.
"The Abnormal we were trying to trap moved faster than anticipated it would. The soldiers fired the net approximately 1.9 seconds late but it was enough to derail the entire plan."
She lifts your hand to plant a kiss on it, almost like she was buying herself time before she had to tell you what the rest of the losses were. Flashes of memories come back to you snippets at a time, not enough to give you a full understanding of what happened, but enough to make your heart sink.
Hanji continues, "Your jump would have been perfectly timed if everything had gone according to plan. When the Titan got out, it tangled your line, and you went flying into a tree." You remember the pain you felt at that moment, you've never felt anything like that before. You could remember clearly the sound your ribs made as they broke.
"After that, it became clear to everyone that our mission had failed, and by the time Commander Erwin gave the retreat order, the Abnormal had already eaten everyone around you. Your body was laying among all the corpses around you and I thought I lost you forever -" Hanji abruptly cuts herself off. She catches her breath and closes her eyes to compose herself.
"I heard you scream my name. I ran back to find you, and you were in the Titan's hand. I couldn't let that happen, obviously. I cut off its arm and caught you while Captain Levi went for the nape. I carried your body to the medic's cart, and I haven't left you since."
"How long?" you croak.
Hanji sighs, "Four days."
"And you've been here the whole time?"
Hanji smiles. "I only left for bathroom breaks."
You roll your eyes, but for a few moments, you forget about the pain covering every inch of you. You were never one for impulsivity but now, your body moves on its own. You're more than familiar with how this scene plays out - you think about it constantly. Your hands shake, and you feel your nerves getting worse the longer it takes.
You've been wanting to do for this for years, and now you have the perfect moment. After what happened, you need to kiss her, even if it's the only time you ever do. So, gently but quickly enough that you can't take it back, you grab her face and pull her to your lips. As they seal together, Hanji is taken by surprise, but just as quickly melts away in your embrace. She places her arms on your shoulders as you deepen the kiss.
It's exactly the way you imagined it would be. Goosebumps rise on your body in response to her soft breath against your mouth. A tiny sob escapes your lips as you're all at once reminded you of how much it hurts to move. But that doesn't stop you. After what feels like hours, you pull away reluctantly. You don't want this moment to ever end.
The bright red blush covering her cheeks makes her look even prettier than usual. She gently touches her lips, looking off into the distance like she's lost in thought.
You pull her back into the moment "Squad Leader..." you begin, taking a deep breath and forming fists with your hands. You gather every ounce of courage you have in you. It's now or never. "I've been in love with you for quite some time, and I should've said something before but I was scared."
Once you've started talking, the words pour out of your mouth.
"Now that I almost became Titan food, I don't want to keep it in any longer. I love the way your eyes sparkle when you're talking about Titans. I love the way your hair falls over your shoulders when you're training, and the way you adjust the straps of your glasses. I could sit here and list everything that's great about you because you are the most amazing person I have ever met."
Your hands start to shake, and your throat burns with effort, but you push out your most important statement. "I'm deeply and completely in love with you, Hanji."
Her mouth hangs open slightly.
Did I just make a huge mistake? It doesn't matter - I had to get this off my chest, you think to yourself.
She's extremely quiet for a few seconds - no more than a minute, but enough time for you to start panicking.
"Since when?" she asks.
"Since I listened to your guest lecture on titans when I was still in the Training Corps."
"Why haven't you said anything up until now?"
You can't help but laugh. "Everyone in the Survey Corps, and probably everyone in the entire military already knows. I just assumed you weren't interested."
"Huh?? I've never noticed!!" she says, waving her hands above her head. You laugh again as you readjust yourself on the bed. "But now that I think about it, I guess you did hug me a lot for no apparent reason... and Erwin did insist that you be my assistant..." she counts off on her fingers, "and you always blushed when I touched you and - oh wait."
She looks down at her legs, her fingers flying to fidget with her hair. "I can't believe I didn't notice..." Her blush spreads deeper once the realization hits her. "The truth is, I've been liking you too, but I thought you liked Captain Levi, or Eren."
You wrinkle your nose, shaking your head. Hanji laughs, standing up to wave you over to the other side of the bed. She lies beside you on the hospital bed, placing her head on your shoulder while carefully lacing your fingers together. She's careful not to bump your injuries. The smell of her hair awakens the butterflies in your stomach, and you place your chin on her head to wrap your free arm around her shoulder.
"I'm glad you're alive." Hanji says. Her voice is barely audible, her words meant for you alone. "From now on, I won't leave your side. You'll be out in the forest killing titans in no time."
You smile. "Right now, there's no other place that I'd rather be than right here next to you." She looks up at your face, flashing you a grin before she pulls you closer, and your lips close against each other once again.
.
A week later, you listen to birds chirp outside of the window while you read your book. The sunlight feels warm and nice against your legs, and the rare silence you're in is much appreciated. It doesn't last long.
"Y/N!!!!!!!!!"
The door barges open to reveal a gaggle of teenagers stumbling over one another.
"Y/N! I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU!" Sasha yells as she runs to hold your hand, but her attention quickly shifts to the half-eaten bean soup on your bedside table. She looks at the soup, and then at you once again.
"You can have it, Sasha," you say with a smile, gesturing to the small bowl. The starved brown-haired girl doesn't lose a second and instantly starts to devour it. A giggle escaping your body as you watch her.
"How are you feeling?" Eren asks before sitting on the bed.
"I'm alright, but I'll need to stay behind during the next few expeditions. I should be good as new in a month or two!"
They stay with you for a little less than an hour, telling you all about their experiences with the failed mission. You find out from them which soldiers were lost and which were injured, along with other small details Hanji didn't mention.
A knock on the door causes all eyes to turn away from you for a moment. Hanji starts to enter, and then gasps as she realizes you have guests.
"Am I interrupting something?" she asks.
You flash her a caring smile while reaching your hand out to grab hers. She blushes slightly, but sits beside you. "Of course not. I was wondering where you were," you say. Mikasa makes eye contact with you, and then looks pointedly at your hands as they sit clasped. You blush too.
"Meeting with the Commander," Hanji sighs, "It went on for longer than expected, I'm sorry."
You could hear the giggles coming from your friends as their eyes rest upon you and Hanji.
"We should get going now, but we'll be sure to come over again soon!" Armin says as he and Mikasa push the rest of the group through the door.
Hanji leans forward to kiss your forehead. You close your eyes, and when you open them, you meet Mikasa's emotionless gaze from a crack in the doorway, Hanji's lips still on you. Your eyes widen, but Mikasa just nods, face unchanged, and closes the door behind herself.
"They're good friends to you," Hanji says after a few seconds.
You smile."They're also a handful. But yeah, you're right."
A long, rather comforting silence passes between the two of you. During the silence, you take time to focus on how soft her skin feels against your fingers, tracing the visible veins on her hand as your mind drifts away. You're pulled back to reality as soon as you hear her voice.
"It's a beautiful day outside, would you like to sit on the grass with me?"
.
The breeze rushes through your messy hair as you adjust yourself on top of the blanket. You squint your eyes and places your arm against your forehead in an attempt to keep the sunshine from hurting your vision.
"There's something I want to ask you, Hanji," you mumble.
"Yes?" She inquires, tilting her head while looking at you.
"Do you want to be my girlfriend?" The expression on your face remains the same as when you had been peacefully basking in the sun, but you can hear your blush rushing, heart pounding in your ears. She looks away while blushing, and you're able to notice a smile appear on her face.
"There's nothing I would like more," she says, turning to face you once again. "Well maybe an abnormal, but I do want this a lot."
"You're impossible!" you say while gently pushing her arm.
As you two laugh, your bodies get closer as if they are moving on their own until your lips are sealed in a love-filled kiss. You wrap your arms around her neck while she grabs your hips, slowly pulling you onto her lap.
"I'm in love with you, Hanji." you whisper against her lips, not wanting anyone else to hear these words but her.
"And I'm in love with you, Y/N."
You hug her tightly, feeling her hair against your face as the smell of her shampoo fills your nose. For the first time since you started to prepare for the now-failed mission that led to your injury, your body isn't in pain anymore. You can relax in Hanji's arms, knowing that your long time crush is finally your partner. You can worry about researches and experiments and missions later, right now all you need is Hanji.
"Let's stay here for a little while longer," she says before resting her back against the grass, carefully pulling you towards her. Your head rests on her shoulder as your fingers lace together, a feeling of peace takes over your body knowing that from now on, you'll have her by your side no matter what.
"Yeah... I would like that." You say as you close your eyes, focusing on her breathing as the warmth of the sun and the gentle breeze lull you to sleep. Maybe the next time Hanji comes up with the idea to capture another titan, you'll stay in the lab instead.
Platonic intruality with Remus as Patton’s guardian angel :0? Idk it’s an idea I had that I don’t think I could execute well but I think you could!! If I may add one more thing, could it be hurt comfort? I don’t wanna specify more because I wanna see what you do with it!!! (Okay bye now ily!)
This spiraled into something monstrous and painful and very, very cathartic. I hope it doesn’t hurt anyone to read, do watch the warnings. And remember; it is a story, and not an instruction booklet. Because of subject matter I’ve put a little summary in so there’s more warning about what’s coming!
And to you Chris, thanks for the prompt. It was special to write, in many ways.
The Hardest Fight Of All
Guardian Angel Remus has been assigned to help Patton Abbott, a sweet high school student with a very normal, decent life; nothing easy to spot for Remus to fight. But if the threat isn’t from outside, then it may be coming from within.
Warnings: Mental Health Issues, negativity, Unreliable Narrator, Self-Esteem Issues, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm, Emotional self-harm, what might be construed as bad handling of an individual with mental health issues, death mention (metaphorical).
Patton Abbot didn't deserve his guardian angel. No really. He was sure he was nice enough, and he tried to be kind to everyone he could and forgive anyone that did him harm, but he didn't deserve a guardian angel for that! He wasn't in much danger, he didn't have a lot to complain about, with his perfectly normal life and normal parents and normal school. He even had normal friends! It felt selfish to have a guardian angel when he wasn't suffering at all really, and he hadn't earned it through doing anything particularly good either.
His guardian angel loudly, passionately and regularly disagreed, but Patton had yet to be convinced. Remus was lovely, but there were so many more deserving people that needed his help! He was flattered Remus seemed to enjoy being his guardian angel and hanging around with him but it was probably only because he was forced, and Patton was good at acting nice so at least he hoped he wasn't making the angel's job too awful.
That was if you asked Patton, at least. Remus would have a different perspective on things. But Patton hadn't... actually asked him? Because he was so obviously lying when he insisted Patton did deserve his presence and protection, because Patton didn't deserve it.
Over time though, something changed. Remus started to lose his glow, his wings began to droop and he stopped skipping and floating around above the ground, steps dragging heavier and heavier on the floor. Patton was terrified, constantly checking in with him because Remus was too important to feel bad, or get sick, or whatever it was that was happening! Patton had to help him!
When he woke up one morning to find Remus leaning on the windowsill, gazing despondently out at the garden and the rest of the houses he started to really panic. He had to be hurting the angel somehow, but how?! And how could he fix it?!
"Remus? What- what's up bud? You know you can always talk to me right? I think you're awesome, and you deserve to be happy!"
"I'm not so sure."
"You do!" Patton insisted, placing a hand between his wing joints on his back. "You do so much good, you're always taking care of me and you're so kind and lovely and fun and you-"
"It's taken me a while, you know," Remus interrupted. Patton went quiet apart from a soft, questioning hum. "To figure out why I was sent to you."
Ah. "Well it must have been a mistake, like I said before, but that's okay, you can consider-"
"Patton for the love of the sky and the stars; shut up."
Patton shut up, trying not to let the harshness hurt. He knew he'd been babbling on a bit, so it was probably his own fault, and after all even angels only had a certain amount of patience. And Patton knew he was annoying. But it still hurt just a little bit.
Remus rounded on him, eyes alight for the first time in weeks. He grabbed Patton by the shoulders and steered him back to the bed, sitting him down on the edge firmly and moving back to pace in front of him. Patton waited, still conscious of the reprimand, until Remus finally burst.
"I can't believe it took me so long! Honestly, I wasn't sure there was much to do here; you seemed so happy so much of the time, and you get along with almost everyone! Sure there's the odd bully, but its only ever in situations you put yourself into knowing they'll come, like that video channel thing of yours, and I suppose I assumed you realised you could just leave if you didn't want to see it all. You were so nice to them, too nice! But even when I visited them, sorted that out for you, or got you to spend time away from it, you were still... so hurt. And now, now I see the true problem. It's worse than I thought, and I'm- I'm so sorry I didn't see before, but I'm also angry, and it's not at you but it is-"
Unsurprising, Patton thought. That made sense, after all.
"Because the evil that I'm supposed to battle for you... is you."
Slightly more surprising. "Come again?" Patton asked, apologising quickly for speaking up. Remus bared his teeth as fury flashed over his face, flaring bright again for a moment. He looked... terrifying, but glorious. An angel in battle.
"There is no greater threat to you than yourself. And I don't know how to fight that! I'm angry because I'm sad; why would you attack yourself so viciously day after day, hour after hour, word after word and never afford yourself a single iota of the kindness you afford others?!" He stopped, chest heaving, and Patton felt the weight of an expected answer. He couldn't reply, just shrugging, which only set Remus off again. "You, the nasty horrible thing inside you, it's killing you! You feel like you're dying, and you just let it happen. I don't- I don't know how to fight that, I don't think I can fight that, and you just- " He growled, his morningstar appearing, only partially there, for him to swing in fury. "Everything they say to you that you rail against in public, you bite back against if those very words are turned on your friends with no mercy, you say the same things in your own head. You are so awful to yourself, you're just like them! I cant fight that!"
Patton swallowed. "It's not a big deal," he said weakly, heart hammering in his ribcage.
"But it is! And I can't do my job if you're the one stopping me at every turn! You don't even know you're doing it, or maybe you do and just pretend you don't, I'm not even sure anymore. But you desire so much better, why can't you take your own damn advice?! I don't- I don't think you even want to feel better sometimes, you've turned your suffering into so much of your identity. Do you actually like being this way...?" He cut off, narrowing his eyes at Patton suspiciously. Patton felt part of him squirm under that gaze, but another small part was quietly begging for the angel to go on, to finish lancing this horrid, deep-seated, ancient boil of Bad.
"It's not fair!" Remus finished. "You're doing it to yourself! Do you know how easy that is to stop?!"
Those were the words that finally got Patton up on his feet. Because no matter the truth of the rest of it; that was a lie. "It's not easy! It's not!" Thoughts of therapy and mental health diagnoses and the difficult of facing everything alone when it was easier to just suffer and frame it in martyrdom and help everyone and hope, pray that one day someone would help him too.
(And then push it away away away when that same help was offered back, falling into misery when that endless push- desperately testing his friends to their limits because he knew they'd get tired eventually- turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy as they ran out of support to throw against his walls of self-hatred and negativity)
Remus stepped forwards until they were chest to chest, gazing down from his height, fully blazing bright in the innocuous setting of Patton's bedroom. "But it is. If you want to."
Patton sat down again with a thump, feeling faint and nauseous. There was a moment of silence before he burst into tears, pulling his knees up to hide his face in. He wasn't even sure why he was crying. Because of the horrible cruel words? Because he didn't deserve even this harsh kindness (that felt like staring at the sun without protection or touching electricity, raw and painful and unfiltered for his comfort) after how awful he'd been? Because... because it felt terrible to even think about the fact that this could be his fault in some way?! And now Remus hated him just like the rest and he was going to leave and Patton would be alone and-
Two warm, gentle hands came up to cup his face and tilt it back into view, and Remus was there, looking stern and serious but not angry anymore. The relief that flooded through Patton was almost euphoric, like the weight of the entire sky lifted back up off his lungs. "I can't fight this battle alone, Patton," the angel said. "And I can't fight it at all if you don't truly, deeply, one hundred percent want me to fight it. To do that you need to understand that it's your battle too, that you have to put your armour on and go to war alongside me, if we're to have any chance at success. Because right now you're on their side, and you're sabotaging us from within."
"But it's my condition! My brain doesn't-"
"You think I don't know about that?" Remus frowned, rubbing his cheeks gently. "You've got medication. You've got a therapist, you have people who are trying their hardest to love and support you. But you can't survive the ocean on a raft of other people's making. It will stop you sinking, for a time- perhaps even for a long time, but you won't get any closer to shore unless you start to paddle. And as you paddle you'll also have to patch up any cracks in the raft with your own hands, perhaps with the materials you're given but the work to stitch it all together and sail it has to be your own. It's- I'm not a fan of metaphors but do you see? You can't be the only one not contributing to your own recovery."
"I'm not recovering from anything, I just have a negative self image and... and some other things. But they're bad! They're not things you get better from-" Patton tried, voice trembling and weak. Remus just looked at him, hands still on his face.
"Aren't they?" He asked simply. "You don't think you could ever manage to feel better than you do right now? You think all the stories of people improving their lives are... made up? You think, perhaps, that the medication is all a placebo, that once you've labelled the problem it's made permanent and nothing can ameliorate the symptoms or make life easier to live?" The angel leaned in and dropped a kiss to Patton's forehead, leaving a warm tingling in its wake. "The world would burn, if that were true," he whispered, before standing up.
Patton just kept on sitting in silence, face itching as his tears started to dry on his skin.
Remus gave him a small but real smile. "You've got plenty to think about. Consider my pitch; without you I will continue to fight the war, hopeless though it may be, but with you..." He grinned properly then. "Oh the things we could achieve, dear one."
And off he vanished, in a flutter of feathers and the sound of moving light.
It left Patton feeling as though, in the space of only maybe half an hour, the entire world had changed around him. He wondered, as he lay down on his bed, exhausted and reaching for his favourite plushie for comfort, whether what Remus said was what his therapist secretly wanted to say. It was a funny thought, mild-mannered Dr Picani ranting like the passionate angel, but Patton barely managed a lift of his lips. He needed to rest, and then he'd start to think about all this. If it wasn't true, if the angel was mistaken, seeing things that weren't there because of how boring it was being Patton's guardian; then nothing really needed to change except he would renew his efforts to get Remus reassigned.
If it was true though? Then that changed everything, and Patton Abbott would have a lot of hard work ahead.
He wished he knew which one he was hoping for.
