Some FAQs:

Does My Fic Have to Be Under 1000 Words?

No! The goal is to write fics between 100 and 1000 words but it's okay to go a little over (or a little under). This isn't a contest, it's just a fun fandom event, we're all here to have a good time. I'd rather see your fic at 1200 words than have you agonizing trying to cut 200. Also, word counts vary in different software, so your fic might show 1000 words on one program, and then A03 might say it's 1011 or something. Don't sweat it!

Do I Have to Use All the Prompts Per Week?

Not at all! You can write 1 fic with 1 prompt, 4 fics with a different prompt each, or you can combine the prompts and write a fic with several prompts. And the weeks are guidelines as well! If you see a prompt in week 4 you want to combine with a prompt from week 2, go for it! Again, this is just for funsies, and to inspire creativity, none of these rules are hard and fast.

The Trial of the Golden Flower: Chapter One

In which Manwë and Námo begin a debate. 665 words.

The Golden Flower sleeps in the Halls of Mandos, unaware that he is dead.

It is a quiet place, and dark too, so that the dead may rest quietly without disturbance. It will be many, many years before they are woken.

"He must not be woken, Manwë," Námo says sternly, fixing him with a warning look. The two Valar linger just outside of the sleeper's chamber, Námo barring the Elder King from passing.

Manwë can only catch a glimpse of the Elf's golden curls around the corner, as still and bright as the metal it brings to mind. He is not breathing; his body perfectly still, now only a vessel for a dormant spirit that, if Námo has his way, will not stir until Arda is healed. Manwë pulls his gaze back to Námo, his brow furrowing. "So he is to be left like this - a corpse in a hall! He deserves more than this, for his valiant deeds. He deserves to be revived."

"It is against the laws of Life and Death to bring a dead soul back to life," Námo insists. "What you are suggesting is a cruelty, not a kindness. Please, leave him - he may wake if our disturbance is too great."

"What do you imagine he would say if he knew his life hung in the balance?" Manwë retorts.

"It is not his life that hangs in the balance, but his death," Námo reminds him. "Would you rob him of his rest, of the peace that he has earned, and thrust him back into that painful existence?"

Manwë's wings flutter agitatedly, and he glares at Námo - but the Lord of Death's pure white eyes stare back without a hint of relenting. "Why do you think he ought to be sent back, among all other heroes? His friend Ecthelion has recently found his own place here, yet I do not see you argue for his life."

Ecthelion drowned in a fountain, Manwë thinks sullenly, but of course he would never say this. "...Never before has a Balrog been slain by an Elf," he says. "Not even Fëanor could manage it. The Elves have suffered long at Melkor's hands, and perhaps we ought to send them a warrior who can protect them, one who is not so limited in the ways he is permitted to interfere."

"So to send them that warrior, you would break your own limitations to interfere."

Manwë hesitates. "Yes."

Námo looks long and hard at him, weighing his words carefully; Manwë has always been the heart of the Valar, but Námo is its mind. Though Manwë may rule them, he has always listened well to Námo's counsel, for he too saw the value in logic.

But sometimes, thinks a small part of him, the head must bow down to the heart.

He sighs. "Manwë, what you are suggesting has never before been done, or even considered - but since you are both my friend and my King, I will do as you ask and reembody this Elf before the Great Healing."

He lets his sentence drop like a gavel in the air, and Manwë smiles brilliantly - but his exultation quickly fades into confusion when Námo does not step away from the door.

"Well?" Manwë asks, gesturing his taloned hand toward the sleeping Elf behind them. Here Námo smiles, though his skin is so transparent that Manwë can hardly see it.

"On one condition," the Lord of Death says, raising a glassy finger. "You must convince me that this Elf is worthy of a second walk upon Arda."

Manwë's face twists. "Haven't I already?"

"You have persuaded me to consider your proposition, but now the battle moves from my heart to his." He turned to the still Elf in the chamber. "Make me want to revive him."

For a moment, both Valar glare at each other, light and dark, neither willing to give in.

"I accept your challenge," Manwë finally says. "Now ... Where to begin?"

Here is my first piece for @glorfindelweek! I know it's late, I was really pressed for time, and also had to think of something quick. Think of this as a prologue to the rest of my works, which will be about Manwë and Námo deciding whether or not Glorfindel should be revived - as the only Elf this has ever happened to (I believe) it is a very big decision!

“Do I have to create for all thirty days?”

- Not at all! Feel free to jump in whenever you’d like. This is a creation event, so create as much or as little as you want! However, if you want to be entered in the shout out post, you must participate in all 30 days.

“Can I post a creation after the day has already passed?”

- Yes! You’re welcome to post for a prompt day even after the date, just be sure to tag with which day and prompt you’ve created for! You will only be eligibile for the shoutout post if you complete all 30 days within the month of April.

“What if I don’t understand/like a prompt?”

- We have a list of 10 alt prompts for you to choose from if you don’t like the main 30. Feel free to use our alternate prompts for any day, and if there’s any confusion send us an ask!

SPOP 4th Anniversary Big Bang

May 15th, 2024 will mark the four year anniversary of the finale of Dreamworks' She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix. To celebrate, we're planning a Big Bang event to ensure there's plenty of new content to celebrate the anniversary!

Want to show your love for SPOP? Always wanted to participate in a big fandom event? Well, come on over and join us!

What is this event?

Participating writers will each prepare a SPOP fanfic of at least 5,000 words.

Once the writers have handed in their drafts, participating artists can choose which fanfic they'd like to illustrate.

Artists and writers work together to share both fic and art during the week of the Season 5 anniversary from May 12th to 18th, 2024.

Organizers will promote all fanworks in the bang collection and on social media so that readers have plenty of fresh content to celebrate the anniversary with!

How do I join? (Sign-ups are currently closed!)

Writers and artists interested in participating can sign up through the form here.

Once you sign up, you'll receive an invitation to join the SPOP Creative Flex Discord, which is hosting this event.

Writers and artists of any skill level are welcome to participate, though users must be at least 13 to join the event server and over 18 to work with mature content.

Want to do something out of the ordinary like a comic (3 page minimum) or do your own art instead of being partnered with a random artist? You're welcome too!

Basic Information and Rules:

How are posts shared? In order for posts to be reblogged here, make sure to use any of these tags: Cody Day, Cody Day 2224, Coday. Alternatively, creators can directly tag this account @codyday2224 to ensure that their post isn't missed. Submissions will be accepted.

What kind of posts are allowed? Any and all types of fanwork made for Cody Day will be reblogged. Fanart, fanfiction, gif sets, videos, etc. So long as the post has Cody as the main focus.

Is there a deadline? Real life can often take priority, which is completely understandable. Despite the date of this event, creators can tag and submit posts up to a week after, February 9, 2024. Afterwards, no more posts will be reblogged and this account will remain as an archive for Cody Day.

Are there any themes or prompts? No. Cody Day is a free-for-all unmoderated event where anyone can create whatever they wish. Posts with mature or explicit themes must be tagged appropriately. Work that contains content that may make others uncomfortable will be tagged (example: blood, death, trypophobia, etc). Are ships allowed? Yes. So long as the post is Cody centric. All ships will be tagged depending on who is paired together.

Sign-ups for the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2024 are now open!

If you’re new here, TRSB  is a Tolkien-fandom-wide event celebrating the talent of our fanwork creators. Participating artists create a piece of art to be claimed by a signed up author. Authors will then write a 5k word fic based on the art they chose.

All sign-up forms are available here!

As well as signing up as an author and/or artist, you can sign up as a beta, cheerleader, pinch hitter, or treat maker.

Explanations of what all of these mean can be found in the relevant section of our FAQ.  Sign-ups for these roles will remain open for the duration of the event and will get you access to the gallery. However, you must be signed up as an author to claim.

The event is open to all characters, genres and ratings, and all canons that fall under the Tolkien fandom umbrella. This includes movieverse (i.e. the LOTR and Hobbit trilogies), lesser known works by Tolkien (such as The Father Christmas Letters), and/or other works with a clear link to his life or creative output (for example, Tolkien's translations and academic texts, the 2019 Tolkien biopic, fan-made films like Born of Hope, and game canons such as The Lord of the Rings Online). Crossovers between two or more Tolkien canons are permitted.
