You suddenly halt in your steps and take a deep breath, feeling a sense of relief. You notice that the sound of footsteps behind you is slow and steady, instead of the expected rush to stop you from leaving. This further confirms your decision to move on.

But this wasn't the last day.

Both of you knew that. But still, you cling on to your suitcase and place your hand on the door handle. You know he won't stop you, you know he never loved you enough to care about you other than what you could provide for him but still you want to see him on his knees begging for you like his ex-girlfriend used to beg him when you first had started seeing him.

But you were one of the many. Anytime, any day. Just another notch in his belt.

Until you weren't.

Somehow a one-night stand in a local bar turned into a year and you almost forgot how you met him. You almost forgot how much he loved treating people like toys. His light is engulfing and his smile draws you in and makes you forget. Makes you neglect yourself. And you're vulnerable. You always have been.

And even now the fights were constant, and lips crushed and crushed again until your bones were bleeding, the final straw came only last month.

"I know you want me gone." He said waving his fingers in front of his nose as if he wasn't believing his own bullshit anymore.

"I never said anything like that." You scoffed crossing your arms, you knew, right there you knew, it was time for him to move in on his next victim, maybe he got bored of you, or maybe she was smarter.

"I heard you." He slurred his words as if speaking was such a bother to him. Late October, yet early winter inside your heart.

"When you were talking to your friend the other day... on the phone." He turns to look at you. He was waiting for a moment like that, a complaint so he could justify his actions.

But you were smarter than that. You could hurt me where it would pain him the most.

His pride.

"Sorry, Tony was back in town and I must have gotten hella drunk." You spew a little lie over a concrete truth and you know it's enough to keep the wheels turning. You won't go down without a fight anyway.

He seems surprised even for a quick second that you can only tell only by observing him so much through the crowd. You knew he was talking about last week when you mentioned to your best friend Kate, how much you missed your old town and how much you couldn't stand this city anymore.

A vague thing, he loved grasping at straws.

He didn't inquire much just wished you on your merry way but when he came back to his apartment in the middle of the night he pushed you behind the door and devoured your body in a way that you feel like a masterpiece.

He always kept a score in his mind, any good thing you did for him and he'd reward you in bed, close to bed, anywhere but the bed. He never forgot.

"I've left some money in the envelope on the bed table for the next bills."

"You didn't have to do that. I can afford it all by myself."

"I know but I'm not a user." You retort and open the door, it's either freedom in the air or a deciding step at this point.

"I never said you were." He mumbles and somehow you wonder what you ever saw in him other than pretty eyes and a broken boy?

"I never said you did." You step out and you can tell he is confused, but he never paid enough attention to realize anything or to understand you. You were three steps ahead of the game always.

"Where will you stay?" His words escape him before he can control them and you know he is hurting inside.

"Somewhere." You smile and close the door. And you know It won't be long before he runs to the street to stop you, just like he did before.

But this time around you will leave cause you love doing anything he asked of you. And you'd remain the winner of the game for a long time.

The gym was next to empty – a few regulars were working hard through routines set by their own trainers, or interspersed amongst the equipment in conversation as they strode to the lockers. It was ideal.

What was not ideal, however, was the fact you were reclined back on a machine you had no idea the name of, and Bucky was standing right behind you. His arms were braced either side of your head, his hair loose and flowing down his neck and over his shoulders – the muscle tank he wore was not even damp from sweat.

You would have cursed him out if you had the breath in your lungs to do so.

“You’re doing great, doll,” Bucky praised, tongue moving over his lips. “You can get to your goal today!”

“Fuck off,” you huffed, your own brow damp with sweat and your chest heaving from the exertion of pushing the weights. Bucky chuckled lightly and moved his hands closer to the weight bar. Fatigue had begun to settle in the muscles of your legs, and your hands were cramping from how hard you gripped the seat of the damned machine. “I can’t-”

“Yes, you can. Now, c’mon, give me a couple more reps,” Bucky encouraged, and you just groaned loudly. “You’re not a quitter. Move that cute butt a’yours and push those weights.”

“What?” you gasped – you hadn’t heard him right, absolutely not. “Bucky?”

Bucky stared down at you with a brow raised. “I said your butt was cute and I said to get it moving–now c’mon!”

Determination surged through you – unsure whether the root cause had stemmed from the praise, his encouragement, or the fact you were crazy and you had heard Bucky call your butt cute. What a day, you thought.

With a loud grunt, you moved the bar high, lowered it down, and then pushed with all your might to get it back up.

“That’s it, doll! Look at you!” Bucky cheered, his voice strong and unwavering in your ear. “Give me a couple more, you can do it.”

“Goddammit, Barnes,” you cursed through grit teeth. The muscles of your legs burned with the hot blood that coursed through them, and you knew you couldn’t last much longer. “Fuck, fuck.”

“Alright, slow it down–deep breath,” Bucky soothed, his hands holding the bar to allow a slither of respite. “You’re doing so well, doll, you beat your record already.”

You panted for air and stared at him. “Lemme try a couple more.” For the first time, Bucky looked hesitant. “I want to keep going–let me.”

Wordlessly, Bucky settled the weight bar on your feet, and stepped back – arms still outstretched to catch the bar if you needed him to. “Alright. Have at it, doll. I’m here.”

“Okay,” you huffed, and you pushed harder than ever before. The next few moments were close to torture for your fatigue ridden body, and you started to whimper quietly.

Bucky’s gaze snapped to your face. “Doll, stop–I need you to stop,” he rushed, taking the bar in his hands. “Slowly,” he coached, lifting the weights so you could watch his biceps bulge, even under the light weight of your regime. “That’s it, rest your feet. Nice and easy.”

“I have never wanted to yell red so much in my life,” you gasped, wiping your forehead. “My god, that was-”

“Intense?” Bucky supplied, offering you a towel. You glanced at his expression to find a mixture of pride and amusement, a look intense enough on its own to swirl something deep within your heart; the dormant, purring creature filled with need raising its head to peek hopefully.

“Yeah,” you said. The towel was soft on your skin, and you sunk back onto the machine. “That wasn’t fun.”

“I know,” Bucky said quietly, and he sat on an empty weight bench behind him. “But you’re doing so well–if I could bottle your determination and keep it for you, I fuckin’ would. It’s amazing, and I’m so damn proud a’you.”

“Oh my god,” you muttered, hiding your face behind your hands. “Bucky, please-”

You could hear a shuffling sound and then a shadow appeared over you and moved your hands.

“Doll,” Bucky murmured, his face far too close – you could make out the grey and cobalt flecks in his irises. “You’ve been coming to Howlies for a few weeks now, and I like to think we’re friends–close ones at that,” he amended, and you blinked – what you wouldn’t give for more.

“The progress you’ve made is astounding.” As he spoke, he stared at you with such a fierce determination you could feel your very soul flutter. “You should be proud of yourself, ‘cos I am. I’ve watched the woman that was terrified to step through those doors change into the woman that isn’t afraid to sass the fuck outta me for doing my job, and then blows me away every damned time with how far you push it–push yourself.”

The words cascaded over you, and the feeling of immeasurable fondness for the brunette followed. You gulped, but Bucky had not finished his tirade.

“Hell, we even have our own nicknames now, Bubba,” he laughed. “You are one hell of a woman, and I’ll be damned if I see you putting yourself down anymore–I won’t have it.”

“Bucky, I-”

“Nope,” Bucky hummed, and he got to his feet. “Let’s go stretch and cool down–it’s your favourite part. C’mon.”

You rolled your eyes and sighed while Bucky laughed, and you followed him on wobbly legs. “I hate you, you know, Buck.”

“I know,” Bucky replied, pointing to the mats. “Now drop and give me twenty.”

“Bastard,” you muttered under your breath as you got into position.

Each sit up made your stomach burn with the effort, but it was a small price to pay to distract from the fluttering thoughts of the feeling of Bucky’s hands on your knees, or the everflowing stream of praise and encouragement he never hesitated to let loose as you huffed and gasped for air.

The single thought of what you wouldn’t give to have this man in your life for far more than just the coach he was circled like how Steve always gravitated towards the candy bowl in the office. Damn Steve, you thought humorously when you glanced at the blond buffoon himself at said candy bowl, the office door slightly ajar to reveal his sneaky endeavour.

And, damn Bucky, you thought – just as you caught those same eyes you dreamed of, staring at you with such fondness. Damn him.

"Fuck." He curses out when the small vial falls on the floor. There is anger and fury all over his face but you can't help and wonder why, the whole room is shaking, of course, things will break. In the corner of the room, behind the large counter, you can clearly see him, the light from the window falling onto his face. You are very certain an earthquake or something similar is happening. Focused on your work you decide to keep your distance trying to focus on your task at hand, finding medicine for the group back in the camp. A green fume is now filling the room and that's when Bucky realizes you are in the room with him.

"What the fuck are you still doing here?" You are taken back by his cruel words, even though Bucky was distant and closed off, he was the best fighter in camp and his metal arm was the best to kill zombies with. Your medical knowledge and your quiet nature made you the best pair to work with one another. Not to mention that you left camp an hour ago and arrived at this place together side by side twenty minutes ago.

"I'm collecting medicine, my job, remember?" You spat back at him shaking a box in your hand but Bucky only seems to get redder in the face.

"Pull your scarf up." He commands you while coming closer to you, pointing a metal finger at you. Confused you listen to him and pull your scarf over your mouth and nose to the sound of more than fifty little vials falling on the floor and breaking. The earthquake seems to stop and the room gets quiet, the low sound of the vials emptying filling the silence.

Bucky looked as if he was about to cry just for a moment and then he started lashing out, cursing obscenities and kicking his feet around. You try your best to push all of your findings inside your backpack, determined that you need to take him and go back to camp. Shoving everything inside and placing the backpack on the counter securing it You walk closer to the door, using both of your hands to open it but there was debris there and you needed him to force it open.

"Bucky, the door." You call out to him and all you can see is how that vein in his neck seems to pop out. He leaps towards the door and starts pushing it open, trying desperately to tear it apart but is to no avail.

"Let's try and get out of the window." You observe pointing at the window on the opposite side of the room, closer to all the vials.

"Fuck it." He yells again and he turns around walking towards the window. But that's when you begin to feel your body growing weaker, a burning sensation overwhelming you. Suddenly you begin to lose your footing and you try to hold on to counter.

"One jump and we are out. I'll go first and pull you out." He turns to look at you but is already losing control. Bucky can only shake his head and whisper a series of noes.

"Stay with me, don't give in." Confused you reach out to him, wanting so desperately to touch him and all he does is plead. What was happening? Your body called out for him, he was close and yet so far away.

"Is the same for me, is a vial, made to make sure people will procreate to repopulate the world." His eyes are watery and his voice is broken.

"I'm sorry if I had seen you'd come with me in the room, I would have."

You don't let him finish his sentence, you jump at him, crushing your lips in his mouth. It was as if you could smell fertility on him, it's not easy for him either, god knows how long has it been and he begins to kiss you back roaming your body with his hands. There are tears, there is pain, and a burning sensation.

"I need you, Bucky, fuck me, please." You plead out between kisses desperately tugging on his clothes and all he does is respond to your touches. His hands tug at your jeans, which are now soaked in your juices and he crushes his forehead against yours.

"Please tell me, this isn't just the vial." His voice is broken, a rejection it seemed would kill him. But that wasn't the case with this situation at all. Bucky was one of the most beautiful men you had ever seen.

"Bucky, you are the hottest man in the camp, I can assure you this isn't just the vial." He laughs at your remark kissing you once more and then he pushes his trousers down. With a sudden motion, he pushes you against the wall. Your hands wrap around his neck, ready and compliant for him and he sets his cock free. You glance down at it and groan at how thick and big it is.
