Gathering
A dysfunctional family gathers around for a Granny-level dinner. Word Count: 2453 TW: None
Dude, you’re more family to me than my own family is.” I let my shoulders drop as I sighed and looked over at Luca from atop my high-rise throne. My legs loosely swung back and forth with no control as I was just short enough not to reach the kitchen stool below them. He pointed to my chest with a snort. A drop of chocolate chip cookie dough—my favorite, Gran knew me so well—was sitting on my chest as if it was trying to tattle on me for my sweet snack.
In my defense, Granny Prickett did give me the spatula to lick when she was done mixin' the dough, plus Luca and Mavry got to lick the spoons so I wasn’t the only one that ate the raw cookie dough. It didn't matter as long as no one told Momma Bird though.
I swiped it off with my finger and glanced back over at my brother, sneaking it into my mouth before I continued our conversation. “You can relate more than anyone else here; y’all are the only siblings I’ve ever known. Granted, you have three years of a lead on me but still.”
Luca’s gaze shot down to the tiled floor. “Yeah. Yeah, I know.” His gaze made its way over to meet Mavry’s as if he was begging them for the words to say in response, while they just shrugged in response. “Mavry not as much, but they can sympathize at least.”
He was adopted by Granny Prickett and Momma Bird like I was, but he was in a vastly different scenario. Mine was more tame whereas Mav told me he had lost everything in a forest fire when he was younger, including his blood family. Mavry found him nearby covered in burns and ash, complete with a big ol' serving of trauma cooked up by the whole incident. They spared me the gory details as they said they didn’t wanna “traumatize” me as well, but I think it was really they didn’t want to think about that night. Said neither of them would ever forget that moment as it formed the sibling-like bond they shared.
I’m honestly jealous of their bond. I don’t think I could have anything like they have and it sucks. I see the crazy acts they manage to pull off, all of the things they can do when they put their minds together and yet—
The sound of cracking eggs shook me from my thoughts as Gran broke two eggs into a large mixing bowl, then tossed the shells into the compost bin. “Little Feather, something you will learn as you grow to be like your siblings is that family isn’t just limited to what's in our veins or even on our birth certificate. We all are family to one another here and only three of us are by blood.” She peered over the rim of her glasses as she smiled, the expression adding to her welcoming appearance. “Just because you weren’t born into our last name like Little Raven was doesn’t mean you aren’t part of the family, and sometimes the family you create is the family you need to grow and learn to fly.”
Momma Bird walked into the kitchen as her furrowed brow shadowed her eyes. Her curly hair bounced behind her in a rhythmic pattern, every bounce matching her own footsteps. “Have any of you seen my knittin’ pack? I can’t seem to find it an’ I want to work on Charlotte’s tiger stuffie. I must’ve sat it down somewhere last time I used it.” Her eyes scanned the room in a determined search for the small pouch as we all turned their heads to look for it to no avail.
“Oh gods; like all of your other things Mama? I swear, sometimes I wonder how you still have a mountain of things in your room when you leave everything lying around everywhere else in the cabin, not to mention how much of it is consumed by the void." Mav jeered as they pushed themself off of the wall to help look. “Here, lemme help. It has to be around here somewhere; unless one of the littles stole it and bolted like they did with your last one.”
I couldn’t help but look over at Luca as we both snickered. They weren’t wrong one bit. A bell-like laugh echoed through the hall from the playroom as the noises of the two younger children suddenly became more obvious to me. Rudy’s laugh rang out clear as day, her cadences comparable to that of a songbird on a sweet summer’s day. Kini’s was more tense and lower in pitch; the register lower overall. They were both brought in from the after school system as they had nowhere to turn to as well; Kini had an emotionally abusive single mother that neglected her while Rudy’s father physically abused them. Since being brought to the cabin however, they’ve matured exponentially in all aspects.
Momma Bird slouched with a resigned sigh. “I’ll go look in their toy box again...if it’s in there I’mma lock it up though. You can stay here, little raven, keep Granny Prickett and the little ones company. ” With that and a swish of her skirt, she swayed out of the kitchen as Luca scoffed in offense.
“Hey! I’m not "little"! I’m older than Mav is! This is blasphemy— treason of the highest order!” His voice transitioned to his dramatic, theatrical tones as it carried through the room. He bit back a laugh as a grin started to break through his offended frown. He pouted with a hmph and crossed his arms, looking away and peeking to see if anyone was paying attention. Mavry smacked their forehead with their hand while I fought back a giggle fit, Luca proceeding to ‘stew’ as he rolled their eyes.
Mav proceeded to cross their arms to hug their sides with a smug look plastered on their face. “Careful, brother. You don’t want to show you care too much now.”
 A scoff answered in response as Luca’s head whipped back around to look at them. “Hey! I can show I care! That’s not illegal!”
The two teens started to playfully fight as I shook my head with a chuckle. Breaking my gaze from the rather amusing fight in front of me, I looked down and noticed the stack of mail resting on the counter. On top was a letter from the elementary school that Rudy and Kini attended. Half unfolded, I could make out the first half of the letter.
 The school was closing? Why? What could've brought this on? “Hey Gran?” She looked over to me and tilted her head. “Yes, little one?”
I looked at the note, picking it up and glancing at her.. “How long have we known about the school closing? What’s gonna happen to Rudy and Kini?”
She sighed in response. “We’re…going to try and adopt them legally. At least Rudy.”
“Oh.” I looked back down at the text. They’ve only been here a year and they’re already being adopted? They adopted Luca and Mav was born here. It’s been four years and they haven’t even considered adopting me…
"Little Feather?" Gran's voice broke through my thoughts as she mixed the dough for the rolls. "What has you lost in the storm?"
I twisted back towards her and flashed a grin. "Oh, nothing! Just was thinkin' about stuff is all. Y’know, with finals comin’ up an’ everything. I’m okay though.”
This decision was a mistake however; Gran was one of the best lie detectors of the century. Nothing could make it past her.
"Mhm. Okay but what's going through that little stormlock of yours? I can see it in your eyes, you're not slick."
Luca's cackling echoed around the kitchen as they kept arguing.  I looked at the floor, unable to make eye contact with her in fear.“I’m…" How do I word this without coming off as childish or weak? C'mon Koda, you're fifteen now, think! "I've always been… cautious, I guess you could say? of showing I care too much or showing if I’ve been affected by something— I’ve always been told I’m weak for it or it’s always gotten me into some serious trouble. Is that…true?”
Granny set the dough down slowly as she looked over to me. She cleared her throat quietly; however it was enough to snag my attention and lock eyes with me. “Being strong doesn’t mean never asking for help, little feather; nor does it mean you should hide what you’re truly feeling behind a mask of false emotions— despite you always wearing some form of animal mask."
 She pointed at the bluebird that I was currently wearing. It covered only the top half of my face and I could still clearly see through it (and vice versa) so no one mentioned anything about it. I was wearing a fox one the previous week but it needed some glue on one of the ears so it had to retire for a little while as it was repaired.
Granny continued. “Strong is admitting you’re in need of help and accepting it. Overcoming those boundaries and becoming a better person due to things that get in your way helps you grow as a person.”
She dried off her hands on the red plaid kitchen towel hanging on the stove. As she reached for the spices, she continued. “A lot of people hear ‘strong’ and immediately think about physical strength; a valid type of strength but it’s not the only type of strength to exist.” She paused to relish in the scent of the cinnamon, sweet spice and the orange peel, the combination of the scents relaxing to her. “Mmm, comfortin’...anywho, where was I? Oh! Yeah!” Her eyes lit up as she recalled where her train of thought was originally going, a quiet laugh dancing around the room as windchimes on a late summer day. “Strength isn’t about how much physical weight you can carry or how much force you can physically push back against. The smallest, skinniest twig that could barely carry a bag o’ beans could be carrying the weight of the entire world on his shoulders, however all we see is the beans he carries. We don’t see what hidden pain, turmoils, struggles or burdens our fellow friends carry— so how would we know what strength truly is?”
I nodded, my shadowed eyes hidden behind the mask. I wasn't sure how to exactly respond to that; frankly I've never had any parental figure give me a talk like this; even when she’s given her speeches it was to someone else. I can definitely see why the character in the movies feels so awkward in these situations now. "I never ask for help because I'm not sure I know…how to. I’ve always kept to myself— you remember how I was when you found me?"
Granny nodded. "Unfortunately, yes. You seemed so disconnected that day outside the schoolhouse with Mav and Luca." As if on cue, Mav's cackling broke through their conversation as the two playfought in the corner.
I shook my head with a snirk. "Dorks. But anyways." I cleared my throat quietly; I needed to get this ball down somehow. "I was afraid of showing any sort of emotion because I felt I was…broken." My voice decided to quit with the end of the sentence, my energy slowly starting to tank as I began to overthink everything that I've done; everything I've accomplished to get to this point before realizing that it wasn’t a lot. The wheels in my head began to spiral as they kicked into overdrive before I was softly jolted from my trance by a soft touch on my shoulder. I panicked, bewildered eyes met with a pair of sunset golden eyes, the familiar sense of belonging and care giving me something to focus on as she spoke.
"Hey, hey, focus on me, little one. It's okay to feel broken. It's okay to take time to heal. We all are wounded at some point in our lives- it's a matter of how we take those attacks, bandage them up and let them heal so we can grow from them." She gently pulled me into her embrace as I gripped onto her to ground myself, my breathing slowly leveling out. I could feel her head move to look at the now-quiet Luca and Mav beside us. “I’m proud of you. All three of you. You’ve all come so far in your lives and who you are. I’ve watched you grow from, well, Little Raven I’ve known since you were born. Little Hawk, I’ve known since you were but a young child and Little Feather I’ve known since you were just a wee baby.” She laughed softly. “I’m surprised you all haven’t caused issues yet but here we are!" Her giggles rumbled throughout her body in a comforting manner. I begrudgingly pulled away once she was done and smiled weakly at her, her smiling back.
"With all of that being said, who wants to help Ol' Gran carry the food out to the table?”
We all nodded in excitement and each grabbed a dish (or three in Luca's case) to carry out to the table; Momma Bird had already set it up earlier with the tablecloth and plates so the dishes had their places already set up and ready to go. The food was placed and a shrill whistle followed, summoning everyone to the table quickly as a horde descended upon the room.
Mavry slid into their worn out seat with grace while Luca flopped into his, the wood creaking in complaint. I hopped up onto my tower of pillows so that I could actually reach the table because, despite only being three years younger than Mavry, I'm a lot shorter than the other two. Rudy and Kini were helped into their chairs and Momma Bird took her seat at the other side of the table. The smells of the feast wafted around the room— soft buttered rolls, dark tan roast turkey, light yellow mashed potatoes, cooked vegetables of all kinds, Gran's infamous five-cheese macaroni and cheese and the multitude of fresh pies, cookies and pudding was splayed in front of the group.
Granny Prickett looked around at everyone with the warmest smile on her jolly face. The sight of her family together brought a smile on her face and warmed her heart more than words could express. I wanted to capture this moment and relive it forever; a common feeling that I experience every year during the holidays and I'm sure she was feeling it tenfold.
“Okay children, who’s hungry?”

if fans wanted to include peach in stuff they write, would that be okay? and how would they write peach's personality? aside from "FIGHT ME" anyway, i think that much is a given lol. i only really write the anime characters 'cause that's what i know, but it sounds like it'd be kinda fun to try making a version of ash that fits into this blog's universe! nerf'd Obviously, but i think she'd probably appreciate how hands-on he gets when training his pokemon!
Ok, I get a lot of these messages, and I often hear folks wanting to throw peach into their stories and comics and writings, and I will always simply ask that if it’s published online publicly, to be linked to it so I can snoop and enjoy the content too. If someone asks about her in your work, let them know about the blog I guess? But literally I love that people take this stuff, these characters and stories, and make new stuff with it. No ones making money off my work here? So where’s the issue? Go for it buddy, knock yourself out, I’m all for it.
For you, and all the others out there who want to add peach, and other characters to your world building, I will give you a detailed rundown of the main lot, and how they behave, what they do, how they function. You can use that, use bits, or use none of it, I do not mind at all. If you’re creating something, you’re in control, not me.
So, peach doesn’t actually fight people as much as you’d think. She’s very aware most cannot and do not want to do that, and so she likes to keep to herself with regards to that aspect of her life, she doesn’t ask to spar with people, or even bring it up at all, but people ask her all the time, even if they clearly would lose or become hurt should she miscalculate during the fight. She looks at people like they usually create problems, and often has a somewhat reserved nature to other humans. You have to work quite hard to get anything more than formalities out of her. She will dead-pan handle people with blunt and very to-the-point statements, aid whenever possible, but very quickly get back to handling the Pokemon she so carefully tends. Her focus is clear, she’s all about hard work, her very small select family, and the Pokemon.
Her brutal, loud and brash personality only comes out with friends, family, difficult humans, OR any Pokemon. She will joke and laugh and play with Pokemon, but clam up around humans, maintaining tight body language and generally will be a little cold by regular standards. She does however have some weaknesses in this emotionless shield she puts up. When peach was young she was always angry, which swung so fast to sadness, back and forth. Her teenage years it just got worse and worse, it was crippling at points. She is to this day, full of fire and rage, even sadness, but now she has learnt to control it, to use it. When she sees that in others, it’s familiar, and she is pushed to drop the front, and be very real with the person. Underdogs I suppose, people who get bad reps, but deserve the same as everyone else. She can’t ignore it.
Once you start to pry open her personality, you’ll find she’s a lot more laid back and fun than originally appeared, you just have to work hard to find that side of her. She will meme reference, can’t dance to save her life, loves her coffee, and can be caught in quiet contemplation while gardening. This hobby is her calmest, and often is why she can stay so level headed when her quiet rage boils up again. Without time outside she will become grouchy, a little snippy, and lethargic. Will not go in the ocean for any reason other than life or death, is fine with ponds and rivers, or water at wading height. Likes the rain.
With regards to her training others, they usually have to tolerate her somewhat strict nature. She is a little....unforgiving, holds a grudge if you make a lot of mistakes, and has no tolerance for ignorance in the age of information that we all live in. In previous posts I’ve mentioned she’s only recently selected two students, after many years of testing kids who want to learn from her. Hundred tried out, only two have ever been approved. How she teaches is very fast paced, be prepared to get some scrapes and bruises, she will test your physical and emotional tolerances with intense tasks, carefully watching students like a hawk. Bad posture in your stance? She’ll be the first to tell you to sort it out. Not hearing your Pokemon partner? Right, now you spend the day without using words trying to communicate, let’s see how you like not being listened to.
This is a woman who has spent her life saying very little, and watching everything, she watches Pokemon and can see an issue from a mile off, and in battles, her observations are why she can react fast, and chose effective strategy to avoid damage and achieve results. Don’t let her body fool you, her strongest asset is analysing, watching, planning. Those skills have over the years transferred to people too. As a student, mistakes don’t go unnoticed with this professor.
Her methods are harsh but fair, and should you prove yourself, she will protect you with her life.
Because of her disinterest in kids and lots of noise, she does pass the training of students on to the other staff members whenever possible. Grey takes on the lions share of battle lessons, he is far calmer, more open and friendly, with patience for people, and an empathy that peach sometimes struggles to have. When you go through a lot of harsh training, and difficult events, it’s hard to change how you feel or think, with peach, well, she’s been through it. Most do not come out the other end in one piece, but she did, and it made her strong. You may think I mean strong like buff and big, and yeah sure she is, but I mean it mentally more than anything. Peach will not quit. She has learnt to destroy the boundaries that stop people getting hurt, gone is the fear that freezes you in your tracks, that feeling that you’ll pass out if you go one more step. She’s learnt to ignore it.
This means she’s a little forgetful at how it is to be normal, to be vulnerable and soft and squishy like students so usually are.
She has her issues, but for the most part, visitors get a laugh, a smile, a calm assertive confidence, and facts. She will indulge those who have genuine interest, or show a connection with nature, an understanding of the balance that needs to be struck for everyone to live well together.
Despite her many flaws, she’s fiercely protective, and will go above and beyond to defend the island, it’s staff, the Pokemon and the visitors. Injustice is her biggest gripe, along with littering, and she doesn’t stand by quietly if something happens that seems unfair.
You will not see her without Valka, her vulpix, close by. That Pokemon doesn’t like to be touched by strangers, at all, and will run the second someone comes at her with that intent. Peach will scold you for pushing yourself onto her, should you persistently try to get close to pet Val. They are in sync, if peach is sad, Val is sad, if Val is stressed, peach is stressed, and so on. They are inherently connected, it’s just been that long, the psychic bridge between them has been built, and reinforced over the years.
The only other Pokemon who follows her so endlessly is Booker, a teddiursa who’s pretty rough looking. He quietly trots behind, grouchy and stoic, they fight closely together a lot. He lost his mom a long time ago to poachers, and peach took him in, and changed her whole life for him. Not many people know, but Booker was the reason she left the rangers, changed career, and got so strong. Will tolerate people petting him but isn’t keen at all, grumbles a lot and tries to move away.
You may also need to know about the others, for the sake of writing, she here a few more bits that may be important to you, or others wanting to do this.
Grey is very tall, very burly, composed, tells bad dad jokes, is a bit of a goof if allowed to be. If he sees a pun, he’ll say it. Can’t help himself. Very nice guy to work with, good at keeping people calm and grounded. Pokemon are drawn to him like a moth to a flame, he gives off warm energy, and has inhuman amounts of patience. If you wrong his family however, he will snap back.
He grew up in the city, loves to swim and hike and cycle, can snowboard, is really sporty. A total brain box with held items, and boosting stats. He will explore many paths, to make sure visitors and students get the information they need, in a way that can be remembered and retained for later. Is a huge guy, but will get on the floor to play with a tiny Pokemon. Treats big “meaner” looking species like babies, very good with all pokemon.
His free time is spent either tinkering, swimming, or trimming his bonsai trees. This guy stares at screens a lot, so appreciates time away from them. Peach built him his own little greenhouse for his trees and tools, which he keeps clean and loves dearly.
His methods as a teacher are built around fun and games, he makes hard work easier to do by distracting trainers from the difficult bits, and focusing in on something more interesting or compelling.
His most commonly seen Pokemon would be a houndoom, Saxon, old battle veteran, retired now to herding and being a good boy. Very gentle, loves a pet.
Pari, now a fully fledged nurse, often oversees the labs front desk and pokecentre features, such as healing pokemon, and informing trainers who come to visit. Her skills with eggs and hatchlings is high, she’s great with younger Pokemon, and hands out good advice to trainers a lot. She’s not a fighter, never was, but can find any file, any study, any book, and any refrence you may need. A true bookworm, loves her romance novels, chat shows and upbeat celebrity gossip mags. Will cry at a lot of stuff, be it sad or happy.
She’s got a seriously upbeat personality, but if caught off guard or shocked, she gets a little flustered. Too much chaos will overwhelm her, but usually she’s on top of things. The years spent on the island have made her better at maintaining composure in emergencies. With lots of siblings, she’s very competent with others, and has a good ability to disarm cagey people with her jolly nature. Because of this, she can sometimes gain information from trainers that some of the more harsh professors may not have access to. Charming is a word for it.
Her partners are an eevee, and a happiny. They are quite sweet and well adjusted, the eevee gets a bit bouncy if you get it too excited.

Twst Species headcannons
Beastmen:
-Palms and bottoms of their feet are rougher and more padded, as well as a slightly darker shade than their normal skin tone
-Legs are built similar to the hind legs of animals (with the sharp angles and little bumps)
-Start “walking” as children on all fours because it’s more comfortable due to the way their legs are built
-Many have scars under their bottom lip due to accidentally biting it bc their fangs were longer after losing their baby teeth
-Similarly, they also have small scars across various parts of their bodies due to their claws
-They can see in the dark to an extent
-Their eyes also do the glowy thing in the dark, as well as on camera
-Beastmen have very thick and coarse hair, which makes it notoriously harder to cut
-Many lion beastmen especially do not cut their hair often, as their hair symbolizes strength within their communities
-Cutting ones hair is a sign of trust in beastmen communities, considering how guarded they are with who touches their head (Patting a beastman’s head is a quick and easy way for them to get their guard down, and it takes them off high alert) as well as their ears being within constant danger near scissors.
-Beastmen do shed, a lot, like, a lot a lot
-They have been known to growl and purr like their animal counterparts, as well as hunch their backs and snarl when threatened
-Baby beastmen will bite you, as a sign of affection. They also wrestle with their caretakers from a young age to show affection as well. Grown beastmen will let the younger beastman win, regardless of species
-They also play wrestle with mates and potential mates to show their interest and affection. Not too hard, but enough to jostle the mate around. They will be absolutely smitten if the mate does it back.
-Beastmen grow up using the same sounds their animal counterparts do, as its similar to being taught a first language that the rest of your family speaks. Most aren’t taught English (Or commonspeak since England is nonexistent in Twisted Wonderland) until later in life
-Beastmen can understand similar dialects and tones of other species, and can further understand and speak a little bit of other beastmen languages
-They cannot eat certain foods that their mother species can’t. Canine beastmen cannot eat chocolate, onions, etc, feline beastmen cannot eat onions, garlic, grapes, etc etc without having issues afterwards. (This makes them a target for pranksters on NRC’s campus. Ex: The incident of Heartslabyul’s Ace Trappola switching out all the tea for coffee during the unbirthday party and Chenya unfortunately missing the cues and drinking the whole cup)
-They are very territorial to anyone besides the clan they reside with. The only people they aren’t territorial with are young children, although they are on high alert if the child’s guardian is nearby
-Beastmen will adopt a child if they see it doesn’t have a clan to stay with, regardless of species. It’s not unheard of to see a beastchild of another species or a young human in beastman clans
-I saw a hc that said that Rook is mixed beastman/human so I’m gonna roll with that for the next one: Beastmen and human mixed babies can have the same attributes as beastmen but on a tamer scale. Their vision, hearing, sense of touch and smell could be higher than a human’s but not as high as a beastmans. The ears and tail are the more dominant gene but it’s not uncommon to see a mixed beastmen/human child with more human features
-Beastmen grow larger than most humans, with the average beastmen (under the right conditions) ranging around six ft at full height. Female hyena beastmen grow taller than their male counterparts
Mer:
-They’re hypersensitive to sunlight at first and have to wear sunglasses or something shading their eyes their first few weeks on land
-They also get dehydrated very easily even in human form, so they have to carry around water bottles
-Their skin dries out quickly, so their hands and feet especially will be very dry and potentially cracking unless they moisturize often
-They have a lot of back and leg pain because they’re not used to gravity pulling them down
-Can also see in the dark very well due to living at the bottom of the ocean
-Their hair is also very thin and silky, but separated into thick chunks, almost looking like scales from a distance. Furthermore most Mer don’t like having longer hair due to the amount of effort it takes to maintain it, with currents twisting it up and the high chances of it getting stuck between rocks and coral
-Most mer have the habit of picking up whatever’s nearby and eating it raw, due to the fact that their bodies can process it. It’s not uncommon to see a mer picking a crab off the side of their house and plopping it into their mouth.
-They have no problem with eating the fish they are associated with, and they do not consider it cannibalism since they aren’t exactly the same species. (Meaning the Tweels can eat eel and Azul can eat octopus without any problems)
-Baby mer can swim around at a very young age (from just a few days old), and mature faster than most other species in the first few weeks of their lives
-Azul has horizontal, rectangular pupils
-Aside from cecaelia, most mer do have slanted pupils that change shape depending on the danger in the area.
-Mer communicate under the water using clicks and chitters similar to echolocation, and could choose to not learn commonspeak as they don’t interact with humans as much as beastmen
-They are born with teeth and can eat smaller fish from birth (or hatching, depending on the species)
-They’re not mammals, so they don’t have nips I think
-They don’t choose to wear clothing or accessories unless it’s for a formal event or a family heirloom
-Back to the birth thing I think mer eggs are very easy to lose due to the harsh climate of the ocean. Many mer settle for only having a child or two due to how hard it is to raise a child there. Jade and Floyd also hatched from the same egg, meaning they were on the smaller side as babies
-Mer babies also bite to show affection, and will wrap their tail around their guardians when they feel scared or nervous
-Cecaelia babies are well known for sticking to their guardians for the first few weeks of their lives, and are very difficult to pry off due to the strength of their tentacles (And when they do theres little marks left across their backs, stomachs, shoulders, etc from the suction cups) (I’m sorry i cant stop picturing tired momma ashengrotto walking around w little marls on her and baby azul still stuck to her like 👁👁)
-I know this is a little far fetched and is nowhere near mentioned in the game or comic but I have a feeling the tweels have a hard time seeing out of their gray eye? Like coming from the same egg they maybe took some features from the other or they had a difficult development while in there (or maybe I just know nothing abt twins)
-Incredibly territorial, especially towards members of different species.
-Most mer have skin pigmented similar to their tail color as well as thick layers of scales (if their species permits) around their throats, their sides, their arms, and around their ear fins (It throws me off how Azul and the Tweels are the only ones with different skin tones- like you’re telling me you have two teal mer and a black and white mer but the guards at the museum had just blue tails and absolutely no other signs of being a mer??? Give us green Rielle pls and thx)
-Mer grow much larger than humans and beastmen, and don’t stop growing until their twenties.
-They also have markings on their torso, tail, and face that’s similar to others in their families. Normally you can tell which mer is from which family depending on the markings said mer has
-Similar to beastmen tails and ears, mer can be read by their fins. In extreme emotion, mer’s fins will flare out or flatten against their body when they feel threatened.
-They don’t know how to drink things when they get to the surface. I think they’d struggle with the idea since you can’t drink underwater or else the liquid will go everywhere (but then how’d Azul make those potions???)
Fae:
-Also hypersensitive to sunlight, which results in many fae being nocturnal.
-Older fae have been known to go days without any sleep with little to no repercussions. Younger fae have more difficulty with this.
-They have a stronger immunity to magic, and often potions crafted by them are well known to be more potent due to this fact
-Fae speak many languages, with many smaller species talking in little chirps and bell like noises, with bigger species talking in low growls and hissing noises. Fae on opposite sides of this cannot understand each other, but each species of small fae can understand other small fae, and larger ones can understand other large ones, even if there’s a difference in language.
-All of them can practice transformation magic without the use of a spell or potion, regardless of genetic makeup. It’s not uncommon to see large dragons or other reptiles walking the streets of the Valley pf Thorns, nor is it too uncommon to see small “floods” or floating fire balls in more secluded areas of the woods
-Fae grow the largest out of all the groups, but have control over their size due to their transformation magic. They don’t stop growing until they appear the same age as thirty (but is actually a much longer time considering their lifespans)
-Because of this fae take much longer to mature from birth/hatching (I like to think 1 normal year= 80~ years) (So An 80 y/o fae would only be equal to a one year old in any other species)
-Very reserved in their relationships with other fae and especially species. I think the cultural differences between other fae is enough to create a large gap between them, and most fae understand the difference in life span between them and other species, so they actively go out of their way to avoid forming relationships with them. (I feel like this is a part of why Sebek is so abrasive towards humans. I mean, his life span has to be different even if he’s only half, so he might be using his anger to deflect his own feelings about eventually having to lose his human father and Silver, as much as they bicker. Poor guys just in denial and trying to protect himself :(()
Human:
-Humans who grew up around magic users have more resilience to magic and potions (meaning Mc/Yuuken, who grew up in a world without magic at all, is more susceptible and will be effected longer by the side affects of potions and spells, or the spells will pack more of a punch and be potentially more dangerous)(Meaning they could take a sleeping potion meant to give the user a full nights rest and be out for a week straight)
-The chances of a human’s unique magic leaning in one direction depends on the area they live in and what resources they have available (I can’t think of anyone else’s unique magic who does this but Kalim’s oasis maker is a big example. He mentioned they had difficulty getting water on the Land of the Hot Sands so maybe that could have been a factor that altered the makeup of his magic. Like a demand and supply type deal?)
-Magical human’s pupils also change shape when they’re using their magic. I like to think that whenever it’s being used their pupils are blown wide to the point where you can hardly see their actual eye color
-Either that or their eyes glow
-Magic using humans are typically stronger, but have lower endurance than non magic users. This is due to the strain that’s put on their bodies even when magic isn’t in use. There are potions they can use to lessen these effects, and many choose to naturally boost their endurance through various activities, but they have to work harder than non magic using humans

What if nmy, jgy and lxc can hear each other thought after they became brother?

Lan Xichen was dreaming.
He dreamt that he was walking along a road, dust on his feet, a small pack on his back, and bruises on his face from where he’d fallen; it felt as if everyone was looking at him, gawking at him, every one of them acting as though they knew everything about him just by looking at him and he hated them –
Do not succumb to rage, Lan Xichen thought, the familiar rule popping into his mind at once.
Rage isn’t the problem, some part of his mind thought back at him. The problem is – why do you care what they think? They’re always going to think something.
They were judging him. How dare they judge him? He’d made something of himself, made himself smart and tricky and capable, but no one cared about that, they judged him, they sneered at him –
Sneering for no reason is prohibited.
Oh for – he just said that they were sneering for a reason.
He did not! The whole point of what he said was that they were sneering because they were unfairly judging him, Lan Xichen argued, and was momentarily amused at himself for arguing with himself in a dream. He would have to write down this dream in the morning and see if he could explore whatever internal strife within him was the cause. And that they weren’t worthy of judging him.
I thought ‘Arrogance is forbidden’?
Are you quoting Lan sect rules at me?
Excuse you both, he was trying to think here!
I’d say brooding rather than thinking.
Lan Xichen agreed with that. It really was mostly brooding, brooding on all the wrongs that had been done to him and paranoia against the whole world. Brooding and walking, walking and brooding –
Like a chicken.
He was not like a chicken. What the fuck. Who the fuck compared lusting for revenge to chickens?
I’m just saying, if you’re going to be brooding, you may as well have some eggs –
Lan Xichen woke up laughing. He still wasn’t sure what the meaning of the dream was, but he did meander down to Caiyi town in order to have some eggs.
He passed it off as a craving.
2
Lan Xichen knew from the first sight of the jingshi how this dream would go.
He would be walking, slowly and gravely, knowing already what he would find: the sight of Wangji kneeling in front of his mother’s house. Only six years old, too young to understand, and yet faced with such terrible loss.
He would go up to him and take him by the shoulder, seeking to comfort him, and he would turn and that would be when Lan Xichen would see his face – dead eyes vacant, blood spilling from his mouth, thirty-three whip marks tearing his back apart and yet that did not seem to be the greatest blow…
The dream never changed.
And so Lan Xichen walked.
He walked, slowly and gravely, and he saw little Wangji, and he –
He’s like a little figurine!
Lan Xichen paused. It was true, of course; he’d had that thought a dozen times before when thinking of his younger brother in his youth. Just not usually in this dream.
One of the expensive ones, his bizarre train of thought continued, utterly nonsensical. The ones you can only get in the shops in the city, all pudgy-faced and red-cheeked with eyes half the size of their face. I always thought those were dreadfully unrealistic.
Perhaps a little.
They’re scary is what they are, another part of his brain thought. Can we get to the part of the dream with all the blood instead?
Seriously?
At least he’s an adult when that happens.
Fair enough.
Wait, hold up, go back, since when am I scared of dolls? I’m not scared of dolls.
Neither was Lan Xichen.
Not dolls. Creepy unliving mannikins in the shape of dolls that are almost but not quite human, that move in stuttering motion that is almost but not quite right, that smile and look at you when they shouldn’t be able to move...
Huh. Apparently I am scared of dolls, the first part of his mind thought, bemused, and Lan Xichen agreed. He’d never known about that particular phobia of his before before, but now that he thought about it, it sounded pretty awful.
He really hoped such dolls wasn’t going to be making in appearance in this dream. It was bad enough as it was.
He sighed, and lifted his foot to continue walking.
Couldn’t you just not go up to him?
What?
That’s a good point. If you already know you’re dreaming, there’s no point in just walking through it.
But…Lan Xichen always went. It’s his brother!
Maybe it’s a creepy doll. Can you really tell the difference?
Wangji was not a creepy doll. How did they get on the subject of creepy dolls, anyway?
No idea. But it’s definitely about as stupid as chickens when it comes to stupid dream thoughts.
Great. Now Lan Wangji – sitting there in all his Lan white – has transmogrified into a chicken, plump with white feathers.
Lan Xichen hoped his subconscious was happy now.
No, this is great actually. No killing livestock within the Cloud Recesses, right?
What?
If he’s a chicken, he’s immune from –
Lan Xichen woke up out of sheer frustration.
(Still better than the usual dream, he supposed.)
3
He was walking through a forest, big loping steps that ate up the ground almost like a run. There were so many things to do, and never enough time to do it in – everything was always a rush, and only the dead had time to sleep.
He was walking through a forest, and the moon was big and bright above his head, shining a dull red in the night sky, a killing moon that boded ill. He could feel the pressure of it on his shoulders like a weight, like an extra presence that never left him; it was both friend and foe, loved and hated, for it would show him the way and rob him of it at the same time.
He was walking through a forest, and he wondered to himself why his dreams recently always featured so much fucking walking.
Oh, no, now you’ve ruined the mood, some part of Lan Xichen’s brain complained, and it might actually be him, come to think of it. I was enjoying that. We were going so fast, it was almost like running.
It wasn’t anything like running.
How did you manage to stop the dream, anyway? Some other part of him thought, sounding almost wistful. You barely got five steps into it before you were making unwarranted comments.
Lucid dreaming.
Was it the moon that gave it away? I’ve never seen it hang so low or so threatening.
It’s not a moon, it’s a metaphor.
All dreams are metaphors, really, Lan Xichen protested, but he was snickering. But also, hold up, look up a second – is it just me, or doesn’t it feel like the moon looking at us?
The moon doesn’t have eyes, the smart voice said immediately. It doesn’t have eyes, so it can’t be – okay, never mind, the moon is definitely looking at us. Also, it’s angry about it.
That was because it wasn’t a moon. He really wasn’t sure what was so hard to grasp about this.
The moon is growling at us! That’s pretty hard to grasp!
If this dream is lucid, can it be changed? Lan Xichen asked, trying to force his dream self to move or dodge or something without success. The moon was getting larger in a threatening sort of way that suggested that it was coming closer. Rapidly. A change would be good right now, really –
I don’t want to be eaten by a moon! I don’t want to be eaten by a fucking moon!
Stop saying it’s a fucking moon already! It’s not a moon! It’s just Baxia!
Lan Xichen opened his eyes and sat ramrod-straight up in bed in a single movement.
“Oh, no,” he said.

They met in Qinghe, which had the virtue of being Nie Mingjue’s sole domain in a way Gusu wasn’t yet, for Lan Xichen, and which Lanling was likely never to be for Jin Guangyao.
“All right,” Jin Guangyao declared, stalking in through the doors looking more upset than Lan Xichen had ever seen him. “Which one of you was responsible for the chicken comment?!”
Nie Mingjue coughed.
“I knew it!”
“I wasted a great deal of time on dream analysis after that,” Lan Xichen said, because apparently they were going to be discussing this rather serious issue  affecting both himself and his two sworn brothers in the stupidest way possible and he was oddly all right with that. “I even consulted Uncle.”
Nie Mingjue coughed again, except this time it sounded less embarrassed and more like he was (badly) trying to hide laughter.
Even Jin Guangyao stopped scowling and started having to fight a smile. “Really?” he asked. “You told – about the chickens?”
“He thought it suggested a desire to settle down,” Lan Xichen confessed.
“The man wants grand-nephews,” Nie Mingjue said dryly. “You could dream of anything and he’d interpret it as wanting to settle down. Speaking of settling down, would you both like to do so? There’s calming tea.”
Qinghe had a very specific brand of tea they meant when they referred to ‘calming tea’, imported from the west and south for its reputed use in subduing even the most vicious temper, and it was most definitely not made of flowers. However, as mild intoxicants went, it didn’t have quite the same crippling effect on Lan Xichen as liquor, and he was happy to accept a cup.
“So,” Lan Xichen said after a while. “We’ve been sharing dreams.”
“It certainly appears that way,” Nie Mingjue agreed.
“How do we make it stop?” Jin Guangyao wanted to know.
“I don’t know how it started,” Lan Xichen said. “Much less how to make it stop. Unless this is familiar to either of you…?”
They both shook their heads.
“Could it have had something to do with the sworn brother ceremony?” Jin Guangyao suggested.
“Improbable,” Nie Mingjue said.
“There have been plenty of sworn brotherhoods throughout history,” Lan Xichen agreed. “Someone would have mentioned dream-sharing if it were a side effect, if only because it would be so useful.”
“Dream-sharing?” Nie Mingjue said, frowning. “That’s your problem?”
“It’s useful, but intrusive,” Jin Guangyao said. He was frowning, which he rarely did in public – or even in front of Nie Mingjue these days. The revelation had clearly shaken him deeply. “Dreams can’t be controlled. What if one of us started dreaming about, I don’t know, killing each other?”
“We would agree in advance not to take offense,” Lan Xichen assured him. “As you say, dreams cannot be controlled –”
“I don’t mind the dreams,” Nie Mingjue put in. “It’s hearing your thoughts that’s getting to me.”
They both turn to look at him.
“What?” he asked. “Oh, that hasn’t started for you two yet? Something to look forward to, because it’s a pain.”
5
They ultimately concluded that it was a curse.
A curse gone wrong, of course, but it had the markings of one, and after some research they were even able to narrow down to which one it must have been at the start.
“Why did it go so wrong?” Lan Xichen wondered, looking at the historical records they’d dug up in Qinghe’s library. “Whoever it was surely wasn’t planning on us having this sort of connection.”
“Baxia deflected it, I think,” Nie Mingjue said, and Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen shared unnerved looks.
It was one thing to know that your sworn brother had a spiritual weapon to which his soul was tied and which he sometimes spoke of as if it were a person; it was yet another to feel that bond, the foreign energy that seeped into his skull at all times, to know that his lucid dreams were due to his persistent awareness of that extra being, to be able to sense the personality that was Baxia lingering on him like a ghost. Or a guai, more accurately.
“It must have happened during or very soon after we swore our oath,” Nie Mingjue continued, oblivious as always to their disquiet. “Our qi was in parallel at that time, binding us together, and she would have been able to spread the attack between us all.”
“The ultimate goal of something like this is to drive someone mad – specifically you, da-ge, since it seems to be hitting you first and hardest." Lan Xichen said, grimacing. And given the Nie sect’s infamous tendency towards qi deviations, they might have thought they could get away with it without anyone finding out…how utterly vile. “Whoever did it must have a great deal of hatred.”
“Or not a lot to lose,” Jin Guangyao said. His hands were gripped tightly behind his back, thumbs digging into his wrists. He seemed to be thinking the word vile, vile, vile on repeat – possibly he was agreeing? Lan Xichen couldn’t quite tell; the curse was affecting him a little more slowly than his two sworn brothers. “Desperate people do desperate things.”
Nie Mingjue looked up with a frown. “Meng Yao, what do –” he started to say, then frowned, having clearly been sidetracked. “You think it’s an insult when I call you that?”
Jin Guangyao, equally distracted, stared at him. “You mean it as a compliment?”
“I don’t exactly like your father,” Nie Mingjue pointed out, sounding a bit puzzled – which, in fairness, he had never been anything but extremely obvious about his disdain for Jin Guangshan. “Why would I think adding his name to yours is a good thing? I’d rather honor the side of your blood that gave you that brain, since it isn’t the Jin sect.”
Jin Guangyao looked flattered – or, no, he didn’t look anything, but Lan Xichen was getting that distinct impression from him nevertheless. It seemed he’d reached the sensing-feelings stage: Nie Mingjue felt a little embarrassed at the reaction, and they were both feeling warmer towards each other.
Maybe they should postpone curing this thing, Lan Xichen thought briefly. If it could help them repair –
“Absolutely not,” both of his sworn brothers said together.
“We’re fixing this at once,” Nie Mingjue insisted, glaring at Lan Xichen.
“Immediately,” Jin Guangyao agreed.
Lan Xichen made a gesture of surrender. “I already have some ideas on how to cure the problem,” he said. “I won’t drag my feet, I promise.”
“Good,” Jin Guangyao said. “I would kill to get rid of this.”
“Speaking of that,” Nie Mingjue said, and he looked like he was starting to get angry, “let’s go back to that discussion of desperate people and how you were thinking about how to kill me –”
6
Lan Xichen had always respected Nie Mingjue – as a man, as a leader, as a friend – but his respect had recently reached new heights when he realized exactly how much the man wanted to murder just about other every sect leader out there, and yet didn’t.
Baxia’s unstinting support for this idea didn’t exactly help.
Jin Guangyao – who Lan Xichen was discovering to be far more vicious than his pleasant smile might have suggested – found Nie Mingjue’s grudge-bearing pettiness to be absolutely hilarious.
What about that one? he asked gleefully. Do we want to kill him?
yesevilkilldestroy, Baxia murmured. doitnow.
Please do not murder Sect Leader Lu, Lan Xichen said. He didn’t think Nie Mingjue actually would, but he felt the need to put his views out there.
I don’t know, Nie Mingjue said thoughtfully. He tried to flirt with me once.
That’s not a crime –
I was ten.
killevildestroy
I’m with da-ge on this one, Jin Guangyao chimed in. Just murder them all. I can provide an alibi.
He could provide six, in fact, each one of them smoothly unrolling like crisp paper in their mutual mind-space – they’d figured out a way to get some privacy – and Nie Mingjue huffed a mental laugh even as Lan Xichen sighed.
It would just figure that his two sworn brothers liked each other much more now that they had access to each other’s secret vicious thoughts – thoughts Nie Mingjue would never act on, given his principles, to the point that Jin Guangyao had once doubted he even had them; thoughts that Jin Guangyao thought would disgust them both, but which Nie Mingjue seemed to rather enjoy as long as Jin Guangyao never took any steps to actually execute them.
What disasters they both were.
“No murder,” Lan Xichen said sternly, futilely trying to conceal the warmth of his affection for them both.
His uncle turned to frown at him. “Xichen?”
Lan Xichen realized he’d spoken aloud by accident and flushed. “Forgive me, Uncle. I was –”
Reciting Lan sect rules!
“– contemplating the obligation not to take lives unnecessarily,” Lan Xichen said, finishing the lie almost smoothly. He’d gotten much better at it ever since the curse began.
Somewhat worse at self-restraint, though, which was a problem because he was apparently the only one of them with a functioning moral compass – Nie Mingjue had principles, which were most emphatically not the same thing (the concept of unearned mercy seemed to puzzle him, as did sympathy for people forced by circumstance), and Jin Guangyao…
Well, he tried.
Sometimes.
Mostly he faked his way through it.
Which was about what Nie Mingjue apparently did most of the time, too, so…
Lan Qiren was giving Lan Xichen a doubtful look, but seemed to accept the explanation and returned to his own meditation. Which was Lan Xichen was supposed to be doing, but Nie Mingjue was dealing with some minor sect leaders in his district with accompanying commentary by Jin Guangyao (supposedly supervising something in Lanling but actually bored out of his mind), and it was just so much more interesting…
You can meditate later, Nie Mingjue thought at him. I appreciate your level-headedness – as do my advisors. I’ve been getting compliments on how well I’m keeping my temper.
Thank A-Yao for that, Lan Xichen said. He’s the sneaky one.
I am, Jin Guangyao said, utterly shameless. And da-ge’s the straightforward one who punched my father in the face.
They all had a collective moment of gleeful bliss at the memory.
Do not damage others, Lan Xichen finally reminded them, albeit reluctantly.
Do not keep company with evil, Nie Mingjue shot back.
Do not act impulsively!
Do not argue with your family, Jin Guangyao interjected. For it does not matter who wins.
…ouch.
He got you there, Nie Mingjue crowed. A-Yao – mark your words.
Yes, yes, Jin Guangyao grumbled. I acknowledge you both as my real family now; will you stop holding the attempted murder thing over my head?
No, never, since it was quite possibly the only way to squeeze any empathy out of his (charmingly) self-absorbed sworn brother.
Anyway, it turned out well in the end, didn’t it? Nie Mingjue added. He thought I hit him because it turned out that he’d instigated the curse to be set against us.
Only you would end up getting a confession out of punching someone, da-ge, Lan Xichen said, amused. It’s positively unfair to the rest of us.
Yeah, da-ge. Leave some luck for the rest of us.
You’re acting sect leader of Lanling in light of your father’s imprisonment, Nie Mingjue reminded Jin Guangyao. How much more luck do you need?
I got that through hard work, thank you.
killevilliesLIES
…I retract the statement and request that Baxia stop glaring at me. Please.
Nie Mingjue snickered.
Lan Xichen laughed.
“A-Huan,” his uncle said. “What on earth is so funny?”
Lying was forbidden, so Lan Xichen was just – not going to explain.
Ever.

No one ever said time travel was fun. No one ever said the job was easy. And no one sure as hell told you the consequences that come with it. Well, at least not before you, and your best friend, Marty McFly, had gone dead-on through a barn, sacred a neighboring family of ‘alien invasion,’ run into younger McFly parents, and altered time just enough to fuck you over for a few days.
I mean, who would’ve guessed right? Your mom just so happens to be romantically interested in you, their child. Well, that was at least in Marty’s case. For you, you had just managed to run into the biggest dickhead of the century, Biff Tannen. Or so you thought?
Making your way out of bed, you automatically go to where Marty was sleeping in the garage, waking him along with Doc up. The go-to plan for the day was to go undercover as usual students in the 50′s, secretly following Marty’s parents around, finding out where they lie in this part of time, and try to find ways into manipulating them together once more in time for Marty and you to get back home. Easy enough, right?
Groaning, Marty goes to slap your hands away weakly, mumbling something along the lines of ‘Just a few more minutes.’ You giggle slapping his hands back in an attempt to wake him up cheerily. Mornings weren’t really your forte either, so any upbeat wake-up is better than a pissy, tired, horrible morning.
Doc, on the other hand, was happy to return the affection, getting out of bed to give a quick hug and kiss to the forehead. Then he makes his way over to the bed, going to tickle Marty’s feet as you go to tickle his sides. Finally, in a fit of laughter, Marty gets up and goes straight for the bathroom. You were going to argue him, having to use the bathroom first, but decide to just leave it be, heading for the makeshift kitchen instead.
You smile fondly as Doc and Marty play around a while later, wrestling about, cracking jokes. It was only just a few hours ago that you and Marty had witnessed the untimely death of the currently very lively man in the house. Witnessing the blood loss, the machine gun in action, and the bullets that whizzed pass with only one malicious intent: to kill. But he’s here now; he’s safe and sound, having many years until that date will arrive.
With the freshly cooked smell of eggs, toast, and pancakes, the boys straighten up, Doc clearing his throat in an attempt to organize himself, and Marty leaving his shirt ruffled as he follows the smell of deliciousness. You giggle as both men of different ages act exactly the same, piling their plates high and digging in, giving thanks through mouthfuls.
///LATER///
After breakfast had finished, you and Marty made your way to the school, not wanting to be late, and, quite frankly, not wanting to miss a second in the disaster we’re in, wanting to fix it as soon as possible. Upon entering, the building erupts in laughter, tears, screaming, perfume, cologne, aftershave, and lots and lots of both testosterone and estrogen. Fucking high school, you smile.
Going to “your locker” right besides “Marty’s,” you both place the books and supplies that are unneeded inside it and take only the things you need for the first two classes, somehow having those together. As Marty catches glimpse of his father, George McFly, he winks at you, moving to catch up to him. Rolling your eyes playfully, you turn back towards your locker, just barely missing a group of young men some ways down the hallway, locking eyes with a particularly taller man, towering almost everyone in the halls.
You pay no mind, however, being blindsided by three girls your age. Instantly, you recognize the one right in front as Lorraine, Marty’s mother. Smiling nervously, your cheeks tint only a little, being unprepared to see her so quickly, not yet having a plan made up on how you could help tackle the situation with Marty.
“Hiya! I’ve never seen you before, are you new here? I’m Lorraine Baines, and you are?” she asks cheerfully, her books clasped tightly to her chest.
Taking an obnoxiously long time staring dumbfounded, you finally realize you haven’t spoken, quickly recovering with newfound purpose and confidence, “Ah, yes! I am new here! Sorry, I’m just trying to get used to this place a tiny bit. I’m Y/N Y/L/N.”
“Well that’s quite alright, you can come with us!” she says once more in a cheery tone, taking you by the arm and lacing her arm around yours, locked elbows. You smiled, knowing exactly where Marty’s cheerful and people-person nature had come from. Walking down the halls, she had asked for my schedule, checking classes to see what we had together, “English, History, and Agriculture- Hey! You should try out for cheer leading!”
Shaking your head lightly, “Nah, I’m more of a Y/C/S myself to be frank.”
“But...We don’t have that sport here? There are no girls sports at all actually...” Lorraine says confused. You go to cover it up, choosing to say it was a sport you play for fun at home, in the backyard. However, a beefy arm separates you momentarily from her, as the owner of the harm moves to pin her to the lockers.
You were going to walk away, figuring it was some sort of make-out session in the works, but upon looking at her before going, you notice that the man was absurdly unwanted.
“Get your meathooks off me Biff!” she screams at the man, his huge form towering her much smaller one. Not taking the message, the pair continue to squabble, neither of them being successful in winning. The warning bell sounds over the halls and classrooms, alarming kids to get their asses moving, but it seems whoever this dick is, he feels he is greater than the school, and god forbid, knowledge.
“Hey, you do realize your not making a damn bit a difference, right? She’s not interested! And, quite frankly, it seems as if no one does! Now, if you don’t mind, could you please be kind enough to unhand her as some of us treasure a piece of mind and how to take a hint?” you finish, quite ticked off as the last bell warns, cursing under your breath as you already know your in for detention on the first day.
It finally seems that he’d caught a grip, thankfully, letting go of Lorraine’s arm and she quickly scurries out of his proximity, taking your hand to lead you to the class you both needed to be in. As you go to walk in, you are stopped by the teacher, scolding both you and Lorraine. Looking at her regrettably, she smiles defeated. So you decide to do what’s right, take the fall.
“I’m sorry sir, I didn’t know where to go as I was trying to find where all of my classes were before I ended up lost every time classes switch. I caught up to Lorraine here at some point, and as she was hurrying to this class, she was kind enough to show me where I needed to be,” you finish, sighing guiltily.
“Well, as you’ve taken acknowledgment to your mistake, then you’d be just as happy with detention. After school, on Friday, as the first week is extremely busy. As for you, Miss Baines, thank you for your help. You are off the hook for now,” the older gentleman finishes, nodding to each of you personally before turning around and beginning just one of the classes you’d have today. This is going to be fun!
///LATER///
Finally, after grueling hours of just a few of your classes, lunchtime had came round, giving you a slight break. Catching sight of Lorraine, you smile and wave, going in the direction of Marty, or Calvin Klein, as you’d heard Lorraine go on and on about. You’d known it was him the second she’d said it, the brand not yet known to man yet; or at least in this timeline, it wasn’t.
As time had went on, it was only natural for the peace to be broken, as a newly familiar face was starting to appear more and more, Biff Tannen, as you’d known his name by now. But, instead of heading towards Lorraine, he makes his way over to the table you were residing with George and Marty, sitting himself right beside you.
At first, you were trying to ignore him, knowing his presence was there, but keeping your eyes trained on either Marty or George, eyes dancing between the two. Biff, being the everlasting child he was, tried to catch you attention, trying stupid ass things after the other: kicking your shins, pulling your ears of hair, flicking your head, and even trying to tug on the 50′s style dress you’d been forced to wear to play your part.
Only when he goes to tug your hair once more is when you finally snap, turning a furious glare to the hulking figure beside you, shoving his shoulder in a feeble attempt to create distance. He giggles at this, his body not moving an inch at all. “You can’t be serious right now! You don’t know when to quit it, do you?!” you scream, fed up with his shit.
“Well, if you’d give me the human decency of turning your head when I’m trying to talk to you, then I wouldn’t have to pester you, now would I?” he asks in a teasing tone, no doubt taunting you, but all you do is stare him down, getting lost in a staring contest, daring him to say something again. “Alls I wanted to say was that we have detention together. Just thought I’d let you know since you got me in all that trouble this morning.”
“Why you-!” And with that, he gets up with a shit-eating grin plastered to his face, prancing out of view and back to the table he and his gang usually sit. Watching the whole interaction, George smirks at Marty, the pair giving an unspoken mutual agreement to whatever they had both caught on to, bursting into fits of laughter moments later.
“You have a longer tolerance than I do, I-I-I’ll tell you that much,” George says, his usual slight stutter back in place, Marty laughing once more. As George joins in again, you couldn’t fight it either, giving into the childish antics.
///LATER///
To say your week had gotten any better than the first day was a lie. It hadn’t gotten any better, and your meetings with Biff at lunch had only gotten all the more common and all the more infuriating. He’d made it his duty to agitate you in any ways possible, even resulting in whispering something nagging in your ear when you weren’t paying attention, usually doing something in your locker.
Either way, he was on the countdown to Friday, it being constantly on his mind, mentally counting down the days, hours, minutes, and even seconds until the two of you were locked in a room alone.
Unfortunately, that day had seemed to come way faster than you’d like, Friday rolling around quite quickly. School had finished, and you were making your way to the front office, awaiting a tiring 2 hours with only yourself and Biff as company for the time being. You hadn’t known where the room was, and instead of spending time looking for it, you gave up and looked for the office instead, the nice front desk lady leading you where you needed to go.
Upon entering the room, there was Biff in his prime, casually spread across his chair, legs crossed atop his desk nearest the windows. Sighing, you ignore him, deciding to sit on the opposite side of him, the front desk lady giving you a sympathetic smile before she closes the door behind her. You look at the wall, head turned away from him like the plague.
You knew it’d only last so long until he’d speak, the time coming way faster than you pleased. Given it was Friday, you couldn’t even do homework or even study in order to block him out as he started to blabber, running his mouth over stupid shit once more. Inhaling through your nose, and exhaling through your mouth slowly, you straighten in your seat, hands clutching the desk so tight, your fists turned white.
“Biff, Sweetheart, Baby, Doll Face, Hun. Please. PLEASE. Shut up for five god damn seconds. I know you truly have nothing to say, so why do you insist on speaking so much?” you finally say, hands prying off the desk to turn in his direction exasperated.
“Well, if you’d just talk to me, Shortcake, I wouldn’t have much to say at random,” he answers, copying your actions and posture. With this change in childish demeanor, you give in, laughing at him in an unexpected rush, running your hands through your hair tiredly.
Although you hadn’t seen it, he’d smiled in satisfaction upon seeing you laugh, the glitter in your eyes much more captivating than it ever was when he looked at Lorraine. He hadn’t barely pestered her since you’d barreled into his life. It was weird, but he welcomed it with open arms. And for the first time, he learned what it was like to have an actual, clammy-handed, closed throat, warm, cheek-tinted, teenage crush. A crush that left his heartbeat loud and fast, breathing ragged and uneven, and his behavior out of character and out of his control. Lorraine was way under whatever level he’d placed you on, holding you up on a pedestal like you were the sun or sky.
Of course, you hadn’t taken notice to his antics, just thinking he was annoying. Just Biff being his notorious self. But, as you finally calm your breathing down, the giggles fading, you decide to give him a chance, knowing that sitting in silence is just going bore you. Smiling warmly, you say, “So what do you want to talk about then?”
///LATER///
Grabbing your bag, you get out of your seat, giggling at a story Biff had told you. He follows your lead as well, getting his own as he lets out a bark of laughter at a certain part. You guys looked like idiots as you shoved each other down the halls, making your way out of the school as your detention had came to a close. Sighing as the warm sun radiated on your skin with the light, spring breeze, you stretch out any kinks the classroom chairs and desks had left. Biff watched you intently, your small body easily swallowed by his shadow beside you.
The sun was setting and it was getting late, although you weren’t concerned. The boys knew you wouldn’t be home ‘til late due to the detention you had initially despised. Now, you and Biff were side by side, walking peacefully to his car in the school’s parking lot. For once, he was quiet, great company to have. It was something else for sure, but you enjoyed it. As you came up towards Doc’s place, you’d realized that Biff had drove you home like a gentleman, too lost in the conversation to notice earlier on.
Sheepishly, you itch the back of your neck, realizing your mistake and feeling guilty for making him walk all this way to now have to walk all the way home. “Ah- Sorry...I didn’t realize I’d dragged you all the way out here. Now you have to drive all the way back.”
“It’s no problem, really. I liked it. It’s nice to talk to someone other than the guys every now and then. And to have A female speak to me instead of screaming,” he answers, now being the one who is a bit shy.
“You do know that you bring that on yourself right?” you say teasingly, now leaning your head on your hands, propped up on the passenger side door. “Not every girl would want to kick you in the groin if you showed a little more respect, “ you finish off with a smile.
“Yeah...Yeah I know. I’ll try harder, I swear.”
“That’s all I ask,” you say with a wink, drumming your hands on the door as you take a step back, waving as you start walking down Doc’s driveway.
“Hey!” Biff calls from the car, stopping you in your tracks to turn around, facing him with a smile. “Uhm- Well- The Enchantment Under the Sea Dance is coming up next week...Would you mind being my date?” he asks, stuttering as he feels his cheeks heat up, nervous as hell.
“I’d love to!” you answer, turning back around to walk into the house. Biff does a little fist bump as he puts the car back in gear, excited for what is to come.
///
Marty was a little less than amused with this newfound knowledge once entering the door and going over the events of the day. It was only when Doc had suggested that the date with Biff would keep him away from Lorraine, giving George the freeway to attract her long enough for their True Love’s Kiss. Then, and only then, did Marty give the okay, shaking his head, but liking the fact that it’ll give George some time, being the nerd that you know and love.
///Enchantment Under the Sea Dance///
Checking yourself over in the mirror for the final time, you let out a nervous yet satisfied sigh, feeling like an absolute princess. You never minded dresses too much, although you couldn’t deny the fact that normal pair of shorts, jeans, or even leggings were your first choice. All that mattered was that you liked the dress you were wearing, it fit you; it was your favorite color, length, and strap(less) type to hold everything in.
Walking out, you grab the pair of heels to match, knowing that you couldn’t get away with sneakers in this generation, painfully grimacing at the reminder. Finally standing, you recount when you had gotten the dress just a few days ago, having gone with Lorraine and the her two friends, Babs and Betty. They were very endearing and supportive the whole time, you not having to worry about being “to picky” as they were just the same. You ended up loving the dress given that you’d taken the time without pressure.
As you walked into the main room of the garage, you heard a low whistle of Marty, Doc slapping him on the back of the head for it. Giggling, you curtsy and spin in the dress. Doc, the gentleman he always was, compliments you, “You look amazing, my dear. Let’s hope this boy deserves it, hmm?”
As an answer, you hug him tightly, knowing that, by the end of the night, he will be nothing but a dead man at home, in a lonely, dark parking lot. Your eyes tear up just at the mere thought of it, clutching him tighter. Marty seems to be on the same wavelength, going to interrupt the moment with great urgency, trying to pass him a piece of paper.
“Marty, if this has anything that involves my future, do not. And I repeat, DO NOT try to hand it to me. Whatever happens, happens young man. That’s how the world works,” he says in a warning tone. You wanted to disagree, but you knew the truth that was laced beneath it, as if it was a punishment. You whimper instead, pulling him in tighter; Marty looking down in defeat, soon switching to anger. In the midst of it, he storms out of the garage, getting in the car to go pick up who you’d hope was Lorraine for the dance.
“Just let him go...” you start, sadness evident, “He’s just not very happy with the outcome of what the future has in store for you. Quite frankly, neither am I.”
“I’m sure whatever the outcome is, that I wanted to go with it, dear. I assure you, I’m fine,” Doc answers in a consoling tone, wiping the tears that had slipped from your eyes. You knew it was just a mask, no one wants death, but you knew he needed to go no matter how much you hated it. So you nod, not having to say much more as a honk sounds from outside.
“That’s Biff...”
“Have a great time! Make sure the McFlys kiss!” Doc screams, following out of the garage, scolding Biff from behind you.
“Yes sir!” you scream back, saluting him as you take a seat in the passenger.
///
“You look beautiful Y/N,” Biff says after a while, finally working up the courage to speak.
“Thank you Biff. And you look handsome yourself,” you giggle, the car pulling into the lot.
He shuts the engine, grabbing his keys from the ignition and closing the door, making his way around to you as you let yourself out to straighten yourself out. He takes your hand as he leads you to the entrance of the dance, you sighing in relief as you catch a glimpse of Marty pulling up in a car with Lorraine. Finally, you relax, grasping on Biff a little lighter and with more meaning now as you have the night to yourselves. He smiles down at you as you wrap your arm within his, something Lorraine does with you quite often.
With the party in full blast, you let loose with the music, dancing and joking around with Biff. At some point, however, he says he needs a drink and will be right back. Although, he doesn’t seem to actually come back. You’d thought you’d seen him spiking the punch just as few moments ago.
Just as you were going to in the direction of the hallways to the rest of the school, you notice Match, one of Biff’s friends, storming out of the gym through an exit. Taking your bets, you follow behind him, soon being greeted by a huge commotion of screams, all of them from familiar people. Biff was in a car with Lorraine, her dress pulled and taken off in parts. He was no doubt about to do something stupid, the fact pissing you off, saddening you in some ways as well.
The others that were screaming were also George and Marty, the pair trying to get Biff to stop before he regrets it. He doesn’t listen, unfortunately, until your voice booms over the rest, “Biff!”
His head snaps instantly in your direction, the situation dawning on him the instant he looks at your face. You hadn’t meant to portray your emotions so clearly, but your face had shown such distraught and hurt. He lied. He had gotten over Lorraine, yet the moment she was alone, he runs right back to her.
With his momentary change of focus, George finally steps in, “You get your filthy hands off of her!” finishing with a blow to the jaw that knocks Biff off balance.
Marty looks to you sadly, but tries to smile in cheers as George and Lorraine leave together, motioning that he was going to follow them just in case. You nod, looking down now as your play with your fingers. You didn’t know what to do now as the only reason you were really here was for Biff. You weren’t needed for Lorraine and George, you knew Marty had it.
You decide to make your way home then, as there was nothing else you could do. Dances were just drags anyway, nothing worth while. “Your just going to leave? Just like that?” asks a deep voice, his body having gotten back off the pavement and stood by the car he was pinned against.
Without turning, you answer his question with another, “Why not? There’s nothing left here for me is there?”
“And why wouldn’t there be?” Biff asks once more, no doubt ticking you off at his usual teasing tone.
“Well, let’s see. You. You asked me to the dance as your plus one. I came here as your date. We have a good time, we dance, we talk, and then you come up with an ‘Oh I need a drink’ charade, not returning. Then, I come to find my date in the parking lot, about to get his licks in on a woman he was apparently over with! So tell me, what is left here for men here, Biff?” you finish, tears pooling your eyes over the time, although you don’t let the fall, keeping them there.
He looks guilty, you can see it, but you don’t care. Your not in the wrong this time. But, as your blood starts to cool down, you do notice the look in his eyes, the change in his demeanor, and the utter remorse that has overcome him. He has his head down, fists clenched at his sides, body stock still. He doesn’t know what to do, all he knows is that he’d fucked up.
“Or was this your fabulous way of telling me that you love me?” you finally ask, eyes moving to look up at him in a teasing manner.
He hadn’t expected you to speak, head snapping up to meet your gaze in confusion. Being as you’d looked at him with a glint in your eyes, he finally lets everything click together; you’d forgiven him. His face heats up in bashfulness however, as your words resonated within him as well, hand going to itch the back of his neck again.
You giggle, walking up to him now, hands going to his collar. Pulling him down, he gazes at you in amazement, his own hands falling to rest on your waist. Then, you crash your lips to his, pulling him ever closer. It takes him a moment to get the hang of it, soon pulling you closer to himself as well. Lifting you slightly, he sets you on the hood of his car, the height difference a definite stretch for him. But he wouldn’t have it any other way, you were perfect. Just the same as he was perfect for you.

pairing: Todoroki Shouto / Reader
length: 24,362 words / 9 chapters
summary: You’re just trying to fairy godmother your best friend into a happily ever after. If only the prince would stop hanging around and cooperate.
tags: cinderella AU, prince!Shouto, romance, misunderstandings, reader-insert
warnings: aged up characters, eventual smut
You were uncharacteristically quiet in the days that followed.
Ochako watched you nervously like a mother with a newborn, sensitive to your every breath. You couldn’t take a step without her at your elbow, and every time you turned a corner it felt like you were bumping into her. You felt smothered, not only by her attentions, but by the thought that you’d failed her. More than that, you’d endangered her, as well as all the other kitchen servants, with your stupid mission to make her a princess.
Of course something in the prince’s food would turn the castle upside down. And of course he’d fixate on the courtier who’d offended him. Of course he’d seen the necklace as a pathway to the Lady Uraraka’s friend, to seek her out and punish her. He was a royal; they were just like that.
You thought sadly of Ochako and her moony-eyed affection for the prince. You’d been so certain he was looking for her. A lady of unusual tastes, Kamiko had said, and quite pretty. He’d certainly been looking for her at that point. Why had he instead questioned the staff about the Lady Ito?
The only person who wasn’t treating you like a porcelain doll in danger of shattering was Kamiko. She seemed convinced that your reticence was an effort to leave her out of the intrigue. She’d spent all her spare time hanging over you suspiciously like an uppity storm cloud.
Your irritation with her was doubled by the fact that you hadn’t been sleeping well, feeling like soldiers would barge into your rooms any moment and march you to the gallows. You’d wake early in the morning hours, sitting up in your bed and feeling the noose tighten around your neck.
It was on one such morning that you awoke in the dark with the thought that you couldn’t stand to go back to bed. You dressed and picked your way through the drafty halls into dark kitchens. Shivering to yourself, you lit the fires and put on milk to warm.
For something to do with your hands, you began to roll out the dough for the day’s bread, cutting it into pieces and weaving them together into thick braids. You shaped others into boules and washed them over with egg and another with a dusting of more flour. When your milk began to bubble, you took the pot off the fire, pouring it into a chipped mug and settling down against the warming stones of the oven.
As you waited for your milk to cool, you became aware of soft footsteps in the corridor. This was the hour that all servants laid abed, exhausted by the prior day’s work. Only the king’s guard patrolled the castle, and none would be in the servant’s halls, padding so quietly towards the kitchens.
Fear quickening your heart, you grabbed a coal iron.
But the broad-shouldered figure who appeared in the kitchens had you dropping the iron and sinking to your knees.
“Your highness!” you choked out, pressing your forehead to the cold stone.
“Apologies,” came a soft murmur. “I did not think anyone would be awake.”
Your brow furrowed against the floor. Did he often creep around the kitchens like a bandit in the dark? What purpose would a prince have for sneaking around his own castle?
“Please rise,” he intoned. “I did not mean to disrupt your work.”
His gaze fixed on the coal iron you’d dropped and a surprised look came into his eyes. His full mouth parted.
“Did you mean to strike me?” he asked.
You panicked. “No! I mean--well, yes, but not you. I thought you were a bandit.”
That wry curl of his mouth was back, the same as he’d worn that evening at the ball. “I must have really angered you with that show in my chambers. You were that girl, weren’t you?”
The bottom fell out of your stomach. He thought you were avenging yourself for the interrogation? “No! I wouldn’t! I mean, I didn’t! I wouldn’t hit you!”
A soft laugh escaped the prince and you stared in shock. Was he teasing you?
He waved an elegant hand. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to bait you.” He took a breath. “You must have been terrified. Bakugou, he’s--well, he’s a good friend but he can be a lot. It must have been frightening for you.”
You climbed shakily to your feet, biting your lip. He sounded sincerely contrite and you hardly knew what to make of it.
In acknowledgement, you offered, “It must have been scarier finding that necklace in your food and knowing that it could have easily been poisoned. I....I am sorry for that.”
You made no mention of exactly how sorry you were.
He studied you intently. You noticed he was dressed plainly, a soft linen shirt, unadorned, tucked somewhat untidily into simple breeches. He looked as though he had not planned to be seen, none of his usual finery decorating his garments. You tried to ignore the way the fabric of his trousers skimmed closely to his powerful thighs.
He shrugged, drawing your eyes back up to his face. His scar looked fainter in the flickering lights of the oven flames.
“Please do not trouble yourself over it. It was hardly the most frightening thing that’s ever happened to me.”
You looked at him in question.
His grey and blue gaze flicked over your face. He seemed to consider you for a moment, then spoke quietly. “How long have you been at the castle?”
You thought for a minute. “Most of my life - fifteen years perhaps?”
Prince Shouto nodded. “You would not have known of this, then. When I was younger, my father’s enemies sent an operative to kidnap me. They sought to use me as a bargaining chip as they sued for peace.”
You gawped at him, aghast at the thought of anyone using a child as a tool of politics.
He continued, “I was young and did not yet understand my own power. I lost control - half of their fortress was swallowed by a sheet of ice so thick they could not break through. The other half burned.”
You gasped, “It’s true then!”
He stared at you, and you flushed pink.
“They, um--they say that you can bring down a fortress with a wave of your hand. They also say that Captain Bakugou has two heads, claws, and was borne to the castle on a wind from hell. I had thought your power only a rumor such as that.”
The corner of the prince’s mouth twitched. “Would you like to see?”
You leaned towards him in interest, unable to help yourself.
He held out his left hand. A soft flicker lit up the dark around his palm and a sharp breath escaped you as flame filled his open hand, licking over the skin but leaving it completely unblemished.
You smiled. “That’s incredible! It must be so useful.”
Prince Shouto let the flame build in his palm.
You stared, mesmerized, as it burned, wondering on the uses of a power like that. “You’d never have to find the matches in the dark. Your tea would never get cold.”
He laughed and his breath stirred the flames. “I suppose it is rather useful. You can read after hours without having to leave bed to fetch the candles.”
You quieted at that, and his sharp eyes quickly caught it.
“I’ve offended you. I apologize," he said.
You shook your head, stepping back from him. The cold stone of the kitchen floors burned under your thin shoes. “Not at all. It’s just -- I can’t read.”
A glimmer of surprise swam over his handsome face. “I didn’t realize. Forgive me.”
His eyes were bright in the dark of the kitchens and you felt horribly seen. You turned back to the bread on the counter, and an uncomfortable silence settled in the air between you. The flames in his broad hand guttered out.
Finally, you spoke. “Do--do you always sneak around in your own kitchens in the dead of night?”
You heard the fabric of his shirt rustle softly as he shifted. “If I can’t sleep.”
You set about piling the bread onto sheets for baking, not looking at him. “Why can’t you sleep, if I might ask?”
He was quiet for a moment. “I’ve been...looking for something.”
Despite yourself, your heartbeat picked up in your chest. Looking for something. Did he mean the Lady Ito? Or perhaps Ochako? It had been a few days, could he still be searching for her?
You considered what kind of question might lead you to answer without giving yourself away. What would a servant who hadn’t been there know of the situation?
Before you could ask, however, the sound of footsteps in the hall broke the quiet of the kitchens.
Prince Shouto straightened abruptly. “I should go. I’m afraid your reputation would suffer for being found alone with a man.”
You quickly curtsied, inclining your head to hide the blush that dusted your cheeks. Of course no one would think that the prince would deign to--with you--you couldn’t think it.
As you rose, he hesitated. The sound of footsteps drawing nearer, however, finally sent him dashing to the door to the palace courtyards. He sketched a quick bow, and was gone.
As the door shut behind him, Kamiko swept into the kitchens like a hurricane.
“Cinders. What an unfortunate surprise. Where’s your pet?”
You frowned, realizing she meant Ochako.
“Fuck off, Kamiko. It’s too early for me to deal with you.”
Kamiko sneered. “Careful with your tone, wench. Speak to me like that again and the housekeeper will have you crawling in the fireplaces for a week.”
All your anxiety and confusion from the last few days suddenly felt like it was boiling over. The words spilled out before you could stop them. “Try it, you spineless fucking flop.”
Kamiko’s eyes widened and she stepped back. “You disrespectful little bitch. I’ll have you on your knees in the ashes."
You growled, your mind going completely white with anger. Before you knew what you were doing, you found yourself picking up your forgotten glass of milk and heaving it in her direction. The milk arced through the air in a white wave, slapping over her neck and shoulders with a wet thump.
Kamiko screamed and rushed to the doorway, disappearing down the hall. “I will ruin you, cinders! You will regret ever crossing me.”
She sound of her quick steps faded down the hallway. All of a sudden, the reality of what you’d done rushed back to you and you stared at the empty mug in your hand in shock.
What had you done? You stood there, dumbfounded by your own actions.
It wasn’t long before the housekeeper was rushing into the kitchens, Kamiko in tow. You held still as she delivered your punishment, biting your lip to hold in the sounds that her lashings threatened to force from you. You wouldn’t give Kamiko the satisfaction.
Much later, as you scraped the ashes from the deadened hearth, you wondered what had gotten into you. You thought long into the night as you scrubbed the blackened stone of the fireplace, feeling the raw skin of your wounds twinge as your shoulder moved. One conversation with Prince Shouto and you thought you were queen of the kitchens?
You resolved to carry out your punishment and watch yourself carefully after.
After all, you could get through this. It wasn’t as if you hadn’t been in this position before. Your wounds would take a couple of weeks to heal, and it would take just as long for your sleep schedule and your sheets to recover, but they would. You’d be back to normal in no time.
But Kamiko...she had threatened to ruin you. You wondered at that. Scrubbing soot out of a fireplace again hardly seemed the ticket for a promise that foreboding.
But as you returned to your rooms that evening, the implications of her threat became clear. Ochako sat wide awake on her straw mattress, finger outstretched towards your pallet. Your heart leapt into your throat as you noticed its state. It had been violently overturned with straw stuffing spilling messily out of the sides to tumble down onto the floor in tufty piles. Underneath it, a notably empty space stared back at you.
Lady Utsushimi’s dress--which you had never had a chance to return to the laundry rooms--was gone.

Adopting Bangtan 08

Supermarket Sweep
You were never going grocery shopping with seven kids ever again in your life.
The chaos. The absolute chaos was something that you somehow never expected. You actually thought that shopping with all seven kids would be the most efficient way to accomplish the task. Sit Kookie in the cart and let him “help” you by picking out the area to shop and hold the bags while you pick the vegetables. Send Yoongi and Namjoon to buy the snacks because they were the most sensible of all of the children and wouldn't have you spending way more money than necessary. Let Taehyung and Jimin retrieve the bread and the milk. Let Seokjin pick the meat because he was surprisingly talented at the job. And then everyone was supposed to meet you back at the shopping cart, still located in produce, so that you could pay and you all could go home. It should have taken thirty minutes, tops.
Instead, you found yourself chasing Taehyung around the store while Jimin kept an eye on Jungkook and you really, really hoped that he didn’t grab the most expensive apples on display, but you have the feeling that he would — because of course, he would. Prices didn’t seem to exist to any of the younger kids.
Instead, Jin was throwing a fit because all of the meats on display were apparently complete rubbish and he refused to let you spend money on anything but the most expensive cuts of beef so you “just have to” make another stop at the actual butcher’s shop. Granted, if Jimin spent all of your money on asparagus, your family would be eating vegetarian this week.
Instead, as soon as you managed to grab Taehyung, who apparently just wanted to replace Jungkook as your shopping partner, Namjoon appeared with a reasonable request for more variety in tea for the house. Which opened up a whole new can of worms as Taehyung realized he can ask for things too. This had him running back to Jimin and the shopping cart with a grin on his face, demanding that they find the snack aisle because you were going to buy them extra snacks if they asked, and Jimin’s face lit up with a smile so bright that dammit, it was going to be hard to explain what a budget was and why it wasn’t a good idea to exceed it.
(and yeah, you checked. Jimin grabbed the most expensive radish and lettuce he could find, and you were going to have to break out the vegetarian cookbook.)
(except for the bananas. It seemed Jungkook picked up the bananas)
Thankfully, Yoongi — lovely, beautiful, blessed Yoongi — had been returning to the shopping cart with his arms full of a variety of snacks, all low in price but high in popularity at home. He took one look at the chaos of whining and fussing children, rolled his eyes heavenwards, and took control.
“You get one.”
His tone left no room for argument; even you stood straight and stopped making a scene. Yoongi led the group back to the snack aisle and replaced everything he picked and let the others run wild. Together, you watched the others pick out snacks and place them, one by one, into the shopping cart.
“... They’re going to blow the snack budget like this,” you commented idly.
“I know.”
“That’s why you put the rest back, isn’t it?”
“Yes.”
“And these snacks aren’t going to last as long as they usually do, will they?”
“Not at all.”
“Thank goodness you’re so smart,” you ruffled his hair. “This is why I keep you around.”
“You keep me around because you don’t want me living by myself and I save you from going broke.” Yoongi’s tone was as matter of fact as ever and you couldn’t help but grin.
“Like I said, smart kid.”
Yoongi grinned back. You liked the fact that these kids didn’t take you too seriously. You had a good balance of deference, respect, and playfulness with all of them, even if you weren’t sure who actually ran the household most of the time. “Go pick you something, Yoon. You don’t have anything for yourself.”
“You can’t afford what I want.”
“I probably can’t afford what anyone wants, they aren’t paying attention to the prices.” And indeed, Taehyung and Jimin, your babies with the most expensive tastes, were debating the merits of two snacks that were way outside of the price range you would normally consider. But again, Jimin’s smile was so broad that you were reluctant to tell him no and watch that fearful, nervous look fall back into place. You would talk to him about budgets and restrictions another time. “I’ll make it work, don’t worry about it right now.”
With a grateful smile, Yoongi asked you to grab the snack he wanted, placed just out of his reach on a top shelf. It wasn’t priced too far out of budget, but it was different from the things he normally selected for your busy household of eight. You made a mental note to pay attention to how much Yoongi enjoyed the snack and check the stores for similar ones. The kid did so much and asked for so little, it would be nice to do this one thing for him.
“Wait a moment…” you frowned, counting off. “Where’s Hoseok?” Immediately all of the children quieted down, looking to each other as if to confirm that yes, someone was missing.
“Wasn’t he supposed to go with Jin-hyung?” asked Namjoon.
“No, I thought he was keeping Jimin and Taetae company?”
“Oh my God, you lost Hoseok.” That accusing tone came from Taehyung, and you watched Jimin’s face go from lightweight confused to completely devastated. You hated it, had suspicion that he was wondering if you would eventually do the same thing to him, if you would get bored or disappointed or angry and cast him off, lose him in a store or at a park like Hoseok explained happened to him, like all of Jimin’s previous parents did to him.
“Okay, boys,” you shouted, uncaring of the stares you attracted. The boys startled, but gave you their full attention, which was one hundred percent more than you’d had the entire grocery trip. You continued to speak firmly, and could tell the show of authority did more to calm their panic than the shouting. You decided that they needed to focus on something other than their lost brother. “This is what we’re going to do: Namjoon, you’re going to take Taetae and Jimin and get the bread, milk, and all the dairy stuff like I told you before, okay? Add eggs to that list. Yoongi, go get the paper products. Get the brands we used to get, not the ones we used last time, they’re cheaper and sturdier. Seokjin, we’ll go to the butcher’s if we have the budget when we finish here, but I promised we could have meat for dinner, so take Kookie and find something, okay?” All of the boys nodded at their assignment. “Good. Yoongi, Joonie, find Jin when you’ve got your things. Seokjin, when you’ve finished, wait for me in produce. You all understand? I’m going to go find Hoseok. He probably got distracted and can’t find us.” Hoseok had a habit of doing that. He often got lost among the chaos, because while everyone was being loud and boisterous, Hoseok was often quiet and did the things that went unnoticed. If you assigned dairy, meat, and snacks, then Hoseok probably went off to grab paper towels or rice or something you needed at home but forgot about. You wouldn’t be surprised if he came to the store with the list Yoongi and Jin never felt the need to write.
So the kids separated, worried and mumbling to each other, but occupied with their tasks. They were trusting in your ability, in your promise to locate their missing brother before you all went home. Whether these kids were abandoned by their parents (or maybe ran away from home, Seokjin never discussed why he chose to stay with his former teacher) , you found them and chose to take care of them. It was understandable that they would be worried. Up until now you had probably seemed like some sort of savior to them. Maybe not infallible, and definitely not… whatever it was that made other adults seem parental, but you had taken care of them, kept track of them, and protected them. Losing one of them had probably shaken their hearts.
It didn’t take long before you Hoseok as you predicted, standing in the frozen section, a piece of paper and pen in his hands. He bit his tongue as he read through it, humming to himself and ticking off items. A hand basket sat at his feet, overfilled with supplies.
“I’m pretty sure you should have an actual shopping cart for that,” you told him. Hoseok startled, jumping nearly a foot in the air and shouting in surprise. The petty, upset parent part of you feels satisfied for it, like Hoseok got what he deserved for scaring you the way he did. The more rational part of your brain is just glad that you were right and he hadn’t been kidnapped. Casually, you looked over the basket. “I didn’t even think about checking the spice cabinet. You’re a clever kid.”
“I just wanted to be helpful,” Hoseok replied with a shrug.
“It would have been helpful if you told me where you were going.”
“... I didn’t do that?” Hoseok’s eyes went big and wandered left and right. He seemed to be making himself smaller, pulling his arms close and leaning away from you.
“No, you didn’t.”
“I… oh.”
“We got very scared,” you explained. “We thought you got lost. The other boys were panicking.”
“I didn’t mean to scare you, I just… everyone else got an assignment and I didn’t, so…”
“So you thought I wouldn’t notice if you disappeared for a bit.” You nodded and ignored Hoseok’s flinch when you crouched down to his level. He wasn’t terribly short, he was actually almost as tall as your shoulder, but it was always easier to have these sorts of talks when you weren’t looming over him. “It’s okay, I’m not mad about you shopping on your own. I’m actually really glad that you took initiative to do something helpful. But you did scare me. I didn’t know what happened to you. I didn’t know if you got lost or ran away or if someone stole you from me. I’m glad I know you well enough to assume you brought your own list, but I was still afraid of being wrong. I really, really don’t know what I would do if you went missing, Hoseok. I haven’t had you for long, but my heart would hurt. I care about you that much, okay? So please, communicate. Tell me when you’re going to wander away, and tell me where you’re going so that I know you are safe.” Hoseok nodded fervently, most likely an effort to convince you he was sincere and wouldn’t disappear on you again. You opened your arms for a hug, You opened your arms for a hug, partially to comfort yourself, but mostly to soothe Hoseok. He looked like he might burst into tears and needed the comfort.
“Okay, good.” You squeezed the kid tight, your hold unrelenting until you felt the kid push away. “Alright, let me see that list of yours.” Together, you and Hoseok went through his list, and you were amazed that he was so thorough. Apparently the kid started taking stock as soon as you mentioned the intent to go to the grocery store earlier in the week. Hoseok noticed that you had a habit of leaving something out and he thought that making a list would be helpful. When you decided that you were going to take all of the kids with you, he decided to just hold on to the list himself.
“From now on, you’re making grocery lists,” you decided as you made your way back to Jin. “Maybe even all of the lists if you’re this organized. What do you think of that?”
Hoseok grinned, obviously proud of himself. “I think that sounds awesome!” He cheered. “Is this like how Yoongi gets to be in charge of the budget and Jin is in charge of the kitchen and Joonie is in charge of all of us?”
“Kind of yes, something like that,” you said. “Because obviously I’ll lose my head otherwise.”
“I’m sure we’ll keep track of your head too if you want.”
“Ah, why are all of my kids so snarky? I don’t deserve this,” you cried, hugging Hoseok more tightly to your waist. “All I do is give them love and a home, and they pay me back in sass.”
“But you love us, right?” Hoseok asked. His voice was a little softer than before, and you saw it for the genuine question that it was, not the joke that it would have been had it come from Jin, Joon, or Yoon.
“Of course,” you told him. “Don’t you doubt that for a second.”
When you went searching for the rest of the kids, you found them standing by Jin with the shopping cart, all lined up on the side of the aisle and eerily quiet. Even Jungkook in the shopping cart was holding his hands in his lap, eyes down cast.
“Do I want to know what happened here?”
“No,” was the resounding answer.
“Okay, good.” You shake off your curiosity. Whether that was because you trusted Seokjin or because you were afraid of the answer, you were undecided. “Hoseok, do you want to delegate tasks? We have a few more things on your list, right?” Hoseok noded, and set about sending his brothers off in pairs to retrieve the remaining items on his checklist. After the two sets had wandered off, Hoseok looked up again.
“Could you…?”
“Seokjinnie, you good by yourself?”
“I’ll have Kookie with me, it will be great.” Jin shrugged and you rolled your eyes.
“We’ll still meet over in produce when you’re finished, okay?”
Jin huffed his frustration at the meat selection. “I think we’re just having fish tonight. Is that fine with you?”
“If it’s okay with your brothers, it’s okay with me.”
“They’ll be fine with it,” Seokjin declared. His tone said he was still very irritated with whatever happened while you were gone.
“Get some cheaper produce when you’re finished, please.”
“Sure thing,” Seokjin agreed absently, wandering further up the aisle.
“Holler if you need me,”
“I will.”
“Just don’t scare everyone when you do.”
“Now you’re just taking away my fun.”
After all of that, you spent another fifteen minutes in the store. The trip to the butcher’s shop was put off for the following night, and you all made the unanimous decision to eat ramen and kimchi for dinner. You were also very loud about never bringing seven kids grocery shopping ever again.
That was, until two weeks later when Jimin’s adorable pout convinced you that they would be on their absolute bestest behavior (spoiler alert: they weren’t).

Meant to Be (Charlie Weasley x OC)
What happens when Bill brings home a girl and Charlie is completely awestruck by her?
CHAPTER 3
Charlie
“Fred, if you don’t come out of there right this instance…” I opened my eyes and sat up immediately.
I forgot how it’s like waking up here. Mum’s voice was echoing through the house. Doors slamming. Footsteps up and down the stairs. Knocking on doors. Ginny begging Ron to get out of the bathroom. I laid back down and closed my eyes. Perhaps if I try really hard I can sleep through this for just a little while longer. I used to be able to do it.
I did miss my family but I did not miss waking up to this. I live alone in the Sanctuary and even though I wake up around 5 in the morning on most days I don’t mind it because it is so peaceful. I can hear birds chirping and dragons roaring and honestly, nothing can top that.
I usually make myself coffee in my little kitchen, put it in a thermos, and hike up the nearby hill. It is the best place to watch the sunrise. I sit down and watch the sun slowly moving across the sky. If I wasn’t working with dragons I would say that that is my favorite part of my day.
“Ron! Please, I really have to pee!” Ginny’s voice made me open my eyes again.
I might not live here anymore but I still felt like it’s my duty to keep the peace between my younger siblings as much as possible.
“Use the other bathroom!” I heard Ron shout back.
“Fred flooded the upstairs one and Bill is showering in the downstairs one!” Ginny knocked on the door again.
After all these years I still don’t know how mum did it. I know it was my parents’ choice to have so many kids but listening to this for more than 23 years had to take a toll on you.
“I don’t care, Ginny. I’m not done in here!” Ron protested.
I ran my hand across my face, took a deep breath, and stood up. I put on the jumper I brought with me and a pair of sweatpants. If I was going to spend the entire day running after my siblings, might as well be comfy doing so.
I opened the door and felt someone knocking me over.
“What the…” I opened my eyes and saw George getting off me.
“Sorry, Charlie. I was trying to run away from…”
“George, if you think you are getting away with this!” George turned his head towards the door and I looked at mum standing in the doorway, her hands on her hips.
Her face was red with rage and I swear I could see a vein popping out in the middle of her forehead. I did not miss that face at all.
“Mum, let me handle this.” I said gently and helped George stand up.
“Fred has flooded the toilet, Ginny can’t get to the bathroom, and George here…”
“Mum, seriously. Let me handle this.” I raised my hand at her to stop her from talking.
“Alright.” She sighed. “I’ll try and make some breakfast. Poor Bill, what will Rhylee think of our family after such a disastrous morning!” She shook her head and disappeared out of our sight.
“Oh, no! You’re not going anywhere.” I grabbed George’s hand as he was about to flee.
“C’mon, Charlie. I thought you were on our side!” He looked disappointed.
“It’s Christmas Eve Georgie, can’t you give mum a break for one day?” I pleaded.
“But we didn’t do anything wrong!” George tried to defend himself.
“Yeah, right.” I rolled my eyes in disbelief. “So Fred flooded the bathroom on his own?”
“We still had some fireworks left from yesterday…” He started to explain, trying desperately to get out of my grip but I only tightened it. “So Fred and I got curious what would happen if you light them up with water around.”
I slammed my hand against my forehead and sighed. Why did I want to know the results of their experiment? I was supposed to be an adult and I was supposed to be mad at him. But how could I be, he looked so innocent. Those big eyes of his.
No!
I have to be strict. I promised mum.
Come on, Charlie. You got this!
“Okay, you did your little experiment, now you’ll go to the bathroom and help Fred clean it. I am going to see if Ginny found herself a free toilet yet and then I am coming to see if you have done what I told you to do!” I frowned at him, my fingers still around his wrist.
“Fine!” George said, disappointed. “You’re no fun!” I finally let go of him and he left my room.
“And that bathroom better be sparkly clean!” I shouted after him from the doorway.
What’s next?
“Ron!” Ginny was still banging on the bathroom door.
Right, help my little sister!
“Charlie! Finally, please tell Ronald to get out of the bathroom!” She pleaded, her hands on her bladder. “I was already inside and he pushed me out!”
“Ron, what’s taking so long?” I gently knocked on the door.
“He’s doing it on purpose! I heard him flush already.” Ginny frowned and was ready to kick the door when it opened and she kicked Ron straight in the sheen instead.
“Ouch!” Ron bent forward to rub the aching part of his leg. “Why did you do that for?” Ginny was ready for another punch. She might be the youngest and she might be shorter than Ron but I was confident that she would be able to kick his arse.
“Alright you two, that’s enough!” I broke them apart, grabbing each by the shoulder.
“Ron, you go downstairs and see if mum needs any help with breakfast and Ginny,” I turned to her, “go pee now.” They both smiled apologetically at me and went their separate ways.
I took a deep breath, rubbing my temples.
“What a way to start a morning, huh?” I turned around and saw Rhylee standing in the doorway of Ginny’s room, giggling. I completely forgot that she was here.
“Is it always like this?” She asked, rather amused.
“Ever since the twins found out what pranks are, yes.” I gave out a weak laugh. I was already tired. “Bill’s in the shower if you’re looking for him.”
“I know. I heard.” She chuckled.
Of course. Ginny announced it to everybody.
“I feel like I should apologize on behalf of my family.” I said embarrassed.
“Don’t.” She stopped me before I could say anything else. “I only have a sister so this was rather entertaining to watch and it makes for a really good alarm clock.”
“What was all the racket up here?” Bill joined us, rubbing his hair in a towel before I could say another word to Rhylee.
“The twins and Ron and Ginny and mum.” I summed it up for him.
“Need my help?” Bill asked.
“Already taken care of it.” I grinned proudly.
“Rhylee, would you like to go for a walk before breakfast?” Bill turned to her.
He really liked this girl. The way he looked at her. Giving her his undivided attention. Smiling like an idiot. I wanted to say something. Tease him a little, but changed my mind. Rhylee looked pretty oblivious to the fact that my older brother was drooling looking at her, so I didn’t find it appropriate.
“Sure! Let me get my scarf and my hat.” She smiled at him and went back into Ginny’s room.
“I can’t believe they can’t behave the one time I bring a girl home.” Bill whispered to me, rather annoyed.
“I think she didn’t mind it. She found it rather amusing.” I couldn’t help a smile spread across my face.
“She’s just being polite. This is ridiculous. I thought they would grow out of it by now.” Bill whined.
“Me too. I did not miss this at all.” I put my arm over his shoulder. “Really, she’s fine with it.” I said again.
It was cute how nervous he was around her.
“How do you know?” He looked at me. “She’s so hard to read. Even if she says something I never know if she means it.” He sighed.
I didn’t know how to answer his question. I just knew. I didn’t find her as difficult to read as Bill was describing. I guess I was better at reading people or perhaps he just fancied her too much to notice these things.
“Bill, you have to get your shit together. She’s just a girl and she’s here with you!” I frowned at him.
I remember when he was giving me relationship advice while we were still in school. I never thought I would have to teach him how to talk to girls.
“You’re right.” He let out a long sigh. “I’m an idiot, aren’t I?” He smiled at me.
“You’re overreacting. I’m pretty sure she likes you back so just take her for a romantic walk and get it over with.” I pushed him towards our room for him to get dressed.
“I told you I’ll tell her once we get back.” I said through his teeth, careful not to be overheard.
“Merlin’s beard, you’re stubborn!” I rolled my eyes. “You are not waiting so long. You’re telling her today! Now go!” I threw his hat at him. “It’s enough I have to do damage control with our younger siblings, I don’t need you giving me trouble too.”
“Okay, mum!” He stuck his tongue at me, trying to appear childish, and ran out of the room before I could punch him in the face.
After checking on the twins and telling them they missed a spot I finally made my way down for breakfast. The smell of freshly baked bacon filled my nostrils, making me realize just how hungry I was. Bossing kids around is hard work!
I sat down next to Percy and Ron and put some eggs on my plate.
“Where are Bill and Rhylee?” Mum asked while putting bacon on my plate, straight from the frying pan.
“They went for a walk.” I answered.
“She’s a lovely girl, isn’t she?” She beamed at me.
I was always astonished how she could go from shouting at the twins to looking so sweet and nice.
“Yeah.” I said quickly.
I wasn’t the one to talk and I definitely didn’t want to talk about Rhylee. I made a promise to not speak to her again and since I already broke that this morning, I am trying not to think about her. Especially when I saw how much Bill liked her.
“Are we going to see the lights today, mum?” Ginny joined us.
“I don’t know, dear.” Mum sighed. “After what Fred and George did this morning...”
“That’s so unfair!” Percy spoke for the first time. “Why don’t we get to do anything nice because they don’t know how to obey!” He frowned.
“Perce is right, mum.” I couldn’t believe I agreed with him for once. “Don’t punish the rest of them for the twins’ mischief. I’m sure they would all like to go.”
I looked from Ginny to Percy and Ron and then to mum. She was leaning on the kitchen table, giving my words a thought.
“Oh, alright. We’ll go. But I’ll need you and Bill to keep Fred and George in line.” She pointed her finger at me.
“I can’t go mum. I was actually hoping for some alone time. I need to do some paperwork for work.” I was telling the truth.
I wanted to do it after breakfast but I simply didn’t feel like it after disciplining half of my siblings. Them all going to see the Christmas lights in the village over the hill was perfect. I would have the whole house to myself and I could finish working before they come back.
“Does that mean we can’t go?” Ron said, sadly.
“No. You go.” I ruffled his hair. “I’m sure Bill and Rhylee will be able to distract the twins so you can have a nice time.”
“Charlie, are you sure?” My mum looked worried. “You should take some time off.”
“I know, mum. But I brought this on myself if I’m perfectly honest.” I scratched my head with my finger. “I always leave the paperwork until I absolutely have to do it.”
“Alright.” Mum said. “We’ll bring you some hot chocolate when we return.” She grinned at me and went back to cooking.
“What did we miss?” Bill asked, taking off his coat and his hat as he and Rhylee came back from their walk.
I was now sitting on the floor, playing Wizard’s Chess with Ron. I wasn’t having much fun as he was about to win for the second time. He, on the other hand, was having a blast and I couldn’t take that away from him.
“It’s been nice and quiet.” Percy answered, sitting on the sofa, reading.
“Mum, is there any breakfast left?” Bill walked towards the kitchen.
“Of course, William. Sit down.” Mum pulled out two chairs with her wand.
They barely had the time to put some food on their plates when an owl tapped the kitchen window. Mum opened it and took the letter from it.
“It’s for you, dear.” She gave the envelope to Rhylee and smiled at her.
“We are going to see the lights in the village this evening, Bill.” Mum turned to him now, leaving Rhylee to read her letter in peace.
“Great.” Bill grinned. “Rhylee, you’re going to love the Christmas lights in Ottery St Catchpole.”
“Huh?” Rhylee hummed, her eyes still on the letter.
“Is everything alright?” Bill asked, concern in his voice.
“Yeah, just my boss.” She swung her hand, indicating that he shouldn’t worry about it. “What did you ask me?” She looked up at him now.
“We are going to look at the Christmas lights today after dinner.” Bill repeated. I could swear I saw him blush. “It’s a family tradition to go to the village on Christmas Eve.” He explained.
“Oh, Bill.” Rhylee started, her voice sad. “I can’t. Apparently, we’re getting the Norwegian Ridgeback first thing after the holidays and the paperwork can’t wait. I’m sorry. I thought I would be able to work on it tomorrow but I really have to do it today and send it back first thing tomorrow morning.” She said apologetically.
“It’s fine.” Bill smiled at her. I knew he wasn’t okay with this. Them being together in the village, observing the lights would be really romantic and I know he was excited to take her. “I’ll stay here with you and help you.”
“Oh, no.” She shook her head. “I can see this means a lot to you and you should spend some time with your family.” She put her hand on his shoulder. “I’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure?” Bill sounded disappointed.
Nothing was going according to his plan and I could tell that he didn’t ask her out when they were outside. He was still a nervous wreck around her.
“I would love to go, but you know…”
“I know this means a lot to you, you don’t need to explain yourself.” He smiled and cupped her face.
Or perhaps he did tell her! Way to go, Bill!
“Thank you.” Rhylee awkwardly pulled her head back.
Or then again, maybe he didn’t tell her after all.
“Are you two done deciding?” We all looked at Percy. “Can I go back to reading in peace?” He frowned.
“Perce.” I said with a warning voice.
I looked at Rhylee and she just giggled. She really wasn’t bothered by how my family was behaving.
I know we could be a bit special but I loved every single one of them. They were my family and I was used to this. Rhylee told me before that she only has one sibling so this can’t be normal for her but she is just so accepting. She doesn’t care and she doesn’t judge.
She was the type of person who just accepts you as you are. She didn’t mind the twins waking up the whole house or Ginny banging on the bathroom door or Percy being grumpy because he just wanted to read.
I hated that she was so perfect.
“Are you going to make your move already?” Ron’s voice made me take my eyes off her and focus back on chess.
I don’t even remember what my strategy was. I moved my Bishop but the second I did I knew I made a mistake.
“Checkmate!” Ron lifted his hands in the air. The smile on his face was priceless.
“You got me again!” I pretended to be shocked even though I knew I didn’t stand a chance of winning against him. He was getting too good.
“Good, you’re done.” Bill kneeled next to us. “Do you mind if I steal Charlie for a second, Ron?” Ron just nodded and I stood up.
I followed Bill to the pantry and he closed the door behind us.
“Are we having a secret meeting or are you here to kiss me?” I winked at him.
“I am losing it, Charlie!” He ignored my joke completely.
He looked so stressed out.
“I am assuming this is about Rhylee and you didn’t tell her how you feel yet?” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I couldn’t. There just wasn’t enough time and we talked about work and then the twins and the conversation never went in that direction.” He buried his hands in his hair.
I was just waiting for him to start pulling it out.
“The conversation never goes in that direction on itself! Why am I the one who is telling you this!” I facepalmed myself. “You went for a walk,” I continued after he stared at me with an open mouth, “why didn’t you brush your hand against hers or just hold it?”
“She had her hands in the pockets of her coat.” He said, innocently.
“Well, then…” I started shaking my head, searching for words. “I don’t know, Bill. If you have such a hard time telling her, write her a damn letter.”
“Don’t tempt me.” He pointed a finger at me.
“Oh, stop acting like a child!” I rolled my eyes.
Is this how mum feels for more than 20 years now?
“As I said. I will do it once we come back. Let me stick to my plan, Charlie.” He whined.
“Look, Bill. It’s up to you and it really isn’t my business. You know her, you know what you’re missing out if you don’t ask her out.” I shrugged my shoulders. “I just want you to be happy.”
I was getting tired of pushing him to make a move. I know I wouldn’t hesitate if it was me. I would ask her out in a heartbeat. I can’t understand how can he know her for three years and not be with her yet. I knew her for 2 days and I couldn’t get her out of my head. I would stay behind and help her with her paperwork today and take advantage of the fact that we’re going to be alone and tell her then.
And then it dawned on me.
I felt my eyes widen. She was staying behind today when the rest of my family is going to the village and I am doing the same. We’re going to be alone in the house! This was not happening! I was trying to avoid her and not talk to her and now we’re going to be alone for hours.
What am I supposed to do? Maybe I should hide? She wasn’t in the kitchen when I said I’m staying behind. Perhaps she doesn’t have to know!
That’s childish, Charlie. Man up, will you!
You will do your work and she will do hers and then you’ll go to your room and go to sleep early. It’s not that hard. She is here with Bill and he fancies her a lot and you are overthinking this too much!
“Are you okay?” Bill must’ve seen the horror on my face.
“Yeah!” I nodded quickly. “I just remembered that I forgot to tell my co-worker something about our Fireball.”
Nice save, Charlie!
“Oh, Charlie.” Bill chuckled. “Always thinking about work.” The smile quickly left his face. “How will Rhylee feel being in our house all alone?”
“I…” I sucked in a breath. I know Bill was clueless that I grew fond of Rhylee but it didn’t make me feel any less guilty. “I’m staying behind too. I was hoping that you would go look at the lights so I could catch up on my papers. You know I always leave them for the end of the month.”
“You still do that?” Bill shook his head.
“Yeah.” I smiled faintly. “I thought you’ll all be going, I didn’t know she’s staying behind.” I wasn’t sure where I was going with my speech.
I tried to apologize for the fact that we’ll be alone in the house even though Bill wasn’t seeing the scenario from my perspective.
“It’s actually good that you are.” I was surprised at his words.
I thought he was going to be mad.
“It is?”
“You can keep her company. I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable being in such a big house alone and with a Ghoul to top it all off.” He tapped my shoulder and smiled.
“Right.” I returned the smile.
Keep her company. That was a bad idea. I knew I had about 100 more questions for her about the dragons and I knew we could never run out of topics to talk about but could I really trust myself to be in a house alone with her?
I loved talking about dragons and I know I’ll try and focus on my work as much as possible but I couldn’t deny my mind wandering to more pleasureful activities to do with a girl while nobody else is in the house.
When we returned to the living room I decided to lock myself up in my room. Perhaps if I start on the paperwork straight away I can finish it until dinner and I can go to the village too.

“The Tall Man” Rewrite
Summary: A few additional moments and scenes from “The Tall Man” episode.
A Jemily comfort fic again, this time with JJ.
Read on AO3
“Breakfast is served.” JJ set out two plates of wheat bread, scrambled eggs, and green grapes for Henry and Michael.
“Now what do we say, boys?” Emily said, appearing from the kitchen behind JJ.
“Thank you,” their sons said in unison.
“You’re welcome,” JJ answered.
Emily held two cups of coffee for JJ and herself, kissing the blonde’s cheek when she gave one cup to her. JJ smiled and thanked her wife.
“Any special requests while we’re here?” JJ asked the boys.
“May I have some ketchup with my eggs?” Henry piped up first.
Michael followed after, “Can I have lime juice?”
Emily and JJ looked at each other before bursting into laughter. “Lime juice?!” the blonde mother playfully exclaimed. “What? On your eggs?”
“I’ll go get some,” she said, ruffling her youngest son’s blonde hair and going to the kitchen.
A buzz was heard from the kitchen table and Emily took a look at her phone, receiving a text from Penelope. As she read the message, her eyes widened. JJ’s not gonna like this, she thought and clicked her tongue.
On cue, JJ came back with a glass of lime juice for Michael and saw Emily’s worried expression. She frowned at her, “What’s wrong? Is there a case?”
The older woman slowly nodded, “Yeah. Penelope just texted.” JJ took the phone from Emily and looked over the message. Her body stiffened and eyes widened as memories flashed back to her. “East Allegheny,” she blinked.
“Your hometown,” Emily stated.
JJ sighed. “I swore I would get out of there and never go back.”
“Look, Jen, if this is all too much, I’ll tell Penelope to look after you,” Emily offered. JJ told Emily before that she never wanted to go back to her hometown because it brought too many painful memories for her. Emily respected her wishes and kept her word.
The blonde shook her head, “No. I have to go. Right?”
“If you feel it’s right,” Emily gave a neutral answer, knowing she can’t control her wife’s decisions. “The case is in the woods, two girls missing. In Dead Man’s Conservatory.”
“Wait, wait. Where?” JJ backtracked Emily’s words, looking at the text again.
“Dead Man’s Conservatory. Is that important?”
Emily pinned a victim’s picture up on the clear board. “Ok, so let’s roll with this for a second. Bethany has a secret boyfriend. He doesn’t want to be exposed, neither does she. But then, Chelsea gets her hands on something neither one wants her to have.”
“Yeah,” JJ nodded. “I think I know what they were looking for."
“Right,” JJ absentmindedly responded, nodding.
“So, the jewelry has to be the key to all of it. What motivates them to this extreme?”
All of a sudden, Emily’s voice becomes a little distant to JJ. The blonde conjures up a memory she had been locking away in the past as she nodded along to what Emily was saying.
“JJ?” Emily’s voice became soft when she saw her wife distracted, her professional voice breaking.
The blonde looked up at her, breaking through her cursed memory.
“Do you want to talk about it?” The unit chief gave her a sympathetic look with her eyes softening.
JJ blankly stared at Emily for a few seconds, contemplating on telling her why she’s been off during the whole case. She lightly shook her head and bit her lip.
“Look, ever since we took this case, all of these…” she exhaled out a breath before continuing, “memories are coming back, and they are not good memories, you know.”
“About Roslyn?”
“Yeah. Like, that morning she took my father’s razor,” JJ started. “I found her. And I just stood there. Frozen. For probably 10 minutes. It’s like my brain couldn’t, um, comprehend what I was seeing.”
She started softly crying at the memory, sniffling. “You know, sometimes l think- I think that’s why I took this job. So I’d always know what to do. So, I’d never freeze again. So, can you- can you give me something to do, Emily? Because I am starting to freeze up again,” JJ’s voice cracked as she blinked her tears away.
Emily checked to see if the office door and window blinds were closed before stepping closer to her blonde wife. She knew it wasn’t the appropriate time or place, but she wrapped her arms around JJ's back and pulled her head close to her chest. JJ reciprocated by wrapping her arms around Emily’s waist and quietly sobbing into her body.
“Shh, shh…” the older agent cooed. “It’s ok, just let it all go. I’m right here.” She rubbed her back in a soothing manner.
“I miss her, Emily,” JJ cried.
“I know. I know," Emily kissed the top of her head. After a few moments, JJ calmed down and slowly pulled back, wiping away her tears.
“Are you ok?”
JJ nodded and cleared her throat, “I think so.”
“Ok,” the unit chief softly kissed her lips and JJ relaxed in the contact. The younger woman gave a small smile, “Thanks.”
JJ was staring through Chelsea’s hospital room window as rage started to build up in her body. She gripped onto the necklace she had taken off when Chelsea pointed it out to her, instantly coming to a realization when she did.
Emily pulled back and nodded. She ran her fingers through JJ’s soft blonde hair, tucking some behind her ear. She then picked up a file. “Luke and Tara are going back to Ally. They are going to use the EMDR technique on her. It’s supposed to be especially effective with schizophrenics...”
“JJ,” Emily called out, walking towards her.
“They had to induce a coma, and we misjudged,” JJ turned to her wife. “The boyfriend, we thought he was a teenager. A peer. Well,” she bitterly chuckled. “He’s older. Much older.”
“How do you know?”
She held up the necklace to Emily with angry, trembling fingers. “Chelsea saw this around my neck. The look in her eyes was recognition.”
“The jewelry the unsub gave Bethany,” Emily noted, piecing together what JJ had found.
“Same one. He gave this to Roslyn, who gave it to me. God only knows how many other girls there’s been since then.” She shut her eyes and gritted her teeth, “I have been wearing this around my neck, his trophy, this whole time.”
Emily cautiously reached out to the blonde. “JJ, we will arrest him.”
JJ had just handcuffed Ethan Howard, their unsub, Roslyn’s older boyfriend and killer and brought him out of the interrogation room. A betrayed Bethany slapped Ethan across the face before being taken into custody as well. JJ, Emily, and Rossi watched as the young girl and unsub left. Emily laid a comforting hand on the small of JJ’s back, and the younger wife eventually relaxed in her touch.
“I know,” JJ nodded. “But when we do, I’m gonna need you to keep me away from him, because if I get a chance, I swear to God, I will kill him.”
“You good, JJ?” Rossi asked.
She nodded, “Yeah.”
“Come on, honey. Let’s go,” Emily softly said and the three walked away. As they were walking to the doors, the unit chief intertwined her fingers with JJ's to comfort her.
JJ and Emily came back home. Emily paid the babysitter and checked on the boys in their rooms. She gave each of them a forehead kiss and smoothed their hair down before going back to her and JJ’s room. JJ let out a heavy sigh and dropped her bag on their bedroom floor before lying down on the bed. Emily laid beside her and pulled her body close to hers. The blonde rested her head on her shoulder, and the older woman ran her fingers through her hair.
JJ took out the gold necklace and ran her thumb over the heart locket. She didn't know what else to do with the necklace. It was her sister's. It held so much meaning to her. So, she put it back inside her pocket and squeezed Emily's hand for reassurance.
“Emily-”
“Shh. Just get some rest, ok? We had a tough case. You did,” Emily whispered.
"I just-" JJ sat up and ran a hand through her hair. "I almost didn't save Bethany in time. She- she would've become… his next trophy. I couldn't save Roslyn then. Bethany could've ended up like her."
Emily sat up, too, and reached out to touch her wife's hands. "JJ, this is not your fault, ok? Don't put yourself down like this."
JJ nodded and sighed, “I’m sorry.” She slumped her shoulders and glanced down at their joined hands, playing with Emily's gentle fingers. "I just really miss her. Ros always gave up her time for me, helped me whenever I got hurt, and… I looked up to her a lot. I even wanted to play soccer because of her," she smiled fondly at the memory of her sister. “She even told me I was a badass."
Emily chuckled along with her, “Well, she’s right. You are a badass.” She kissed her lips and pulled back to look at her. "Roslyn would've been proud of what you did with the case. You did her justice and she would’ve been grateful for that."
JJ slowly nodded and bit her lip. Emily’s right. She did bring justice for her sister, and Roslyn would’ve thought it was badass. The blonde agent quietly chuckled to herself as she remembered Roslyn's words from before, "...he'll know not to mess with Jennifer Jareau. 'Cause she's a total badass.”
"Now, get some sleep. You need it," Emily's voice quietly broke through and JJ felt herself being pulled back down. She laid her head on Emily's shoulder and snuggled back into her body.
The next day, Emily was in her office, fixing a small black box for her wife. Earlier that noon, she had used the last 15 minutes of her lunch break to “run an errand” at the jewelry store, leaving a confused JJ behind because she usually ate with her. When Emily was done with her finishing touches, she went outside her office to see JJ at her desk, concentrating on her reports.
Emily let her wife fall asleep first. She thought about the necklace JJ had before they learned it was a painful and awful reminder of what happened with Roslyn before. She noticed JJ taking the necklace out at the police precinct and made a mental note to go to the jewelry store tomorrow.
“JJ, I need to see you for a moment,” Emily called out across the bullpen, using her stern unit chief voice.
“Ooh, looks like you’re in trouble, JJ,” Matt joked, looking up from his paperwork. JJ playfully rolled her eyes and shook her head before heading upstairs to see her wife.
The blonde profiler followed Emily into her office, closing the door behind her, “What’s up?”
The unit chief grabbed the box from her desk, “I got you something earlier while you were busy.”
JJ took the box from her and slowly opened it. She quietly gasped at the sight. It was a gold necklace, similar to the one Roslyn gave her, but there was a minor difference. The locket was not heart-shaped, but a different one.
“Blackbird,” JJ noticed and looked up at Emily.
The unit chief nodded and pointed at the locket, “Look what’s inside.” The blonde picked it up from the box and opened the locket, revealing two pictures: one of Henry and Michael on one side and the one of Roslyn and JJ on the other side. Emily had enlisted some of Penelope’s help with the photos to fit the locket size. Tears started to form in JJ’s eyes as she ran her thumbs along the pictures inside.
The older woman softly smiled, “I hope you like it.”
JJ nodded and smiled, “I do. I love it so much.” She kissed her and Emily grabbed the necklace from her hand. The blonde wife turned around, brushing her hair aside. Emily clasped the necklace closed when she put it around her neck.
JJ turned back around to face Emily and looked down to toy with her new necklace. She gave a tearful smile and kissed the brunette for a few seconds, resting her forehead against hers after, “Thank you, Emily.”
Emily smiled back, “For what?”
"For understanding. For being there when I needed you," the blonde answered, playing with the fabric on the shoulder of her wife’s work shirt.
"I will always be here for you, JJ. You know that," Emily kissed her forehead.
“I know. I love you.”
“I love you, too, JJ,” the older woman said and pulled her into a tight embrace.
JJ smiled and kissed her again, this time deepening it. She lightly pushed Emily against her desk and her hands blindly found her boss’s belt buckle, attempting to undo it.
“Babe, we have work to do. Those reports aren’t going to finish themselves,” Emily murmured and chuckled.
“Mm-mm, I want to properly thank you,” JJ said, kissing Emily’s jawline. “I’m determined to make you finish first.”
The brunette lightly laughed and pulled away, with JJ slightly frowning at the loss of contact. Emily kissed her cheek and offered to make a deal, “How about this? We get off work at around 5, so I’ll let you have your way with me then.”
JJ’s eyes lit up as she nodded. She kissed her one more time and hugged her again. JJ rested her head on Emily’s shoulder as her fingers played with the blackbird locket again.
The blackbird was very significant to JJ. Not only did it mean a code for danger to her, but it also meant courage and change. JJ thought about how she grew up the person she is today, but she couldn’t have done it without Roslyn in her younger years and Emily in her older years. Her sister helped her learn how to find herself when she was younger, and her wife built JJ to become the stronger version of herself later on. It’s no wonder why Emily chose a blackbird for the locket. It’s because that’s how the unit chief saw JJ: hopeful and brave.

Surprise! (Kirishima Eijirou x Reader)
Funny little idea I had. Reader finds out she is prego and wants to surprise her hubby with the news :)
A/N: Nothing really. Charters are aged up. Female pronouns used.
Hope you enjoy it and sorry for typos, grammar and spelling errors! :)
************
You were practically floating through your local market store's aisles, humming has you picked up items on your list.
Today was a beautiful day. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and nothing could ruin your mood.
Not even the grumpy old lady blocking our path, complaining to a stock boy about ketchup prices could bring you down!
Any why might you ask?
Because today you got the best news in the world.
A few days ago, you went to your local clinic. You'd been feeling rather tired here lately and even a bit nauseous. You honestly thought nothing of it and just figured you had a stomach bug that'd been going around.
Image your surprise when the nurse on the other end of the phone informed you that you were not sick, just pregnant.
It took a few seconds for the information to process, but the moment it does. Oh boy! You screamed and cried in pure joy to the poor, probably now partially deaf nurse on the other end.
After many thank yous and a few apologies, you practically hung up on the women wanting to call your husband imminently.
You tried him on his cell and on his desk, but he must have been out on patrol. Meaning you wouldn't hear from him until much much later in the day
Damn.
That burst your bubble, but that just gave a chance to be... well, creative in your news delivery method. You'd spent the last few hours researching and watching videos in the theme of 'Surprising the father baby announcements.'
And boy, oh boy, did you get some ideas! Too many ideas! But you settled on one method in particular.
You smiled as you made your way over to the produce section.
Ah-ha! There's an item on your shopping list.
You reached out and grabbed two bags of baby carrots before tossing them into your cart.
It would be a night your husband would never forget!
Later that night...
Let me start off by saying this. You love your husband. Very very much.
Your husband, Kirishima Eijirou, is the most wonderful man on the planet. He is an amazing and loving husband. He is also an amazing hero. Ranked one of the best in Japan and one of the friendliest.  The man is a literal saint who against all odds befriended Bakugou for goodness sake! You love him more than life itself.
Your husband is a lot of things but currently, you can only think of one way to describe your husband. In the words of the blonde explosive best friend, 'he has rocks for brains'.
Bless your husband's heart some days, he can be denser than his skin in his unbreakable form.
You expected him to overlook some of the food you made, BUT NOT EVERY FUCKING THING!
You made a spread of baby-related foods that could give a buffet restaurant a run for their money. You had it all, baby carrots, baby spinach, baby artichokes, baby corn, baby back ribs, fingerling potatoes, a cornish hen, deviled eggs, popcorn shrimp, you had it all! Hell, you even dropped a 'bun in the oven reference'. Twice!
But did he see the pattern?
Nope!
His only response was to stare/drool at the food and said, 'wow hun, if I'd known you be making this much food, I'd have invited Amajiki and Togata over'. Later on, he commented on how Fatgum would be jealous of the amazing food he's going to have for lunch tomorrow'.
While you appreciate the comments on your cooking. You could have strangled at that moment.
Dense. Very dense.
You chanted in your head while he pigged out, 'I love the father of my child, and I will not beat him over the head with chicken' over and over for most of dinner.
As the night continued, you realized after watching both 'Boss Baby' and 'Storks' that you would have to take drastic measures to get it through his thick skull.
Tomorrow, you'd bring out the big guns!
Maybe you should get Mina involved…
The next day…
"Hey, Red! Wow, what's with all the food?" Fatgum shouted as he watched the redhead placed another container on the table.
"(Y/N) went overboard last night and made a feast! We had a lot of leftovers, so I brought some of them in. Want some?"
"You bet I do! I love her cooking! You really lucked out!"
"Yeah, I did! I have no idea why she made so much food, but I'm ain't complaining!" He flagged over Amajiki, who just walked into the breakroom. "Hey, Amajiki! Join us!"
"T-thanks…." He shuffled over and eyed the spread of food on the table. "Um… Kirishima… was yesterday a special day or something for the two of you?"
"No, I don't th-WAIT" Kirishima had a moment of panic before checking his phone. "Nope. Our anniversary isn't for another few months, and her birthday was last month." He sighed in relief. "Man, Jiki, you can't do that to me. You bout gave me a heart attack." He took a bite of food. "Why'd ya ask anyways?"
"Well… it's just… this is a lot of food... And very...v-very… specific food that doesn't seem to go together, in a traditional sense…" The quiet man commented.
"What do ya mean?"
Fatgum took a second look at the food before his eyes went wide. "I-I think I see where you're going with this Sun.." He put down his bowl while his redhead appearance just looked cluelessly between the two. "So Red, what happened last night?"
"Nothing really. I came home, and she made this awesome food, we ate, watched a few movies and then went to bed." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Did she say anything about her day, or did she seem like she wanted to talk to you about something?"
"No. I mean, she said she had an awesome day but didn't really say what was so awesome about it. She looked great! Like… I don't know, she just… had this.. glow? Yeah, that's the word. She just seemed to be glowing! I mean, I'm not saying she wasn't attractive before! She's drop-dead gorgeous, but I don't know, here recently she's just been…. Wow…" Kirishima's features softened as he thought of his wife while Fat and Amajiki looked at each other. The older man's eyes lit up while the younger dark hair man gave a half-smile.
"H-has she been feeling ok?" Amajiki pressed.
"Yea-" He paused for a moment. "Well, she did say she wasn't feeling too good the other day and that she went to the doctor... She didn't say what they said, though.." He crossed his arms while he thought back. "Now that I think about it, she really didn't eat much last night, and I could have sworn I heard her throwing up this morning... But she  just brushed it off when I asked about it…"
"Did she say what she thought was w-wrong?"
"No, she didn't. I even asked her if she wanted me to stay home with her today, but she said she'd be fine. She did promise me she'd take it easy." He almost jumped up. "You guys don't think she's getting sick, do you? I know there's been a stomach bug going around…"
"Oh, it sounds like she got bitten by a bug, alright!" Fat couldn't keep it in any longer as he gave the redhead a wide smile.
"Seriously? What do we do? Wouldn't the doctors have found out if she did? Do you think it was poisonous?!?!" Kirishima jumped up like he was ready to take off back home to tend to his 'sick' wife.
"Easy Red." Fat roared with laughter. "She'll be fine, but she's going to be feeling the effects of this for the next…. I'd say nine-ish months…."
"Huh?"
"Kirishima, I think you r-really need to go home and talk to your wife…" Amajiki interjected while Fat wiped the tears from his eyes, trying to control his laughter. Which he was failing at btw.
"Come on, guys! I'm freaking out here! Is (Y/N) ok?" The hero pleased with them trying to get a straight answer.
"Eijirou?" Every head in the room twisted in your direction as you stood in the doorway.
"(Y/N)! You're here! Are you ok? You haven't seen any weird spiders or anything around, right?" Kirishima rushed over to you as you made your way into the breakroom. You'd heard Fatgum laughing from down the hall and figured your husband was too far away.
"Spiders? Wait, what?"
"Fatgum thinks you might have been bitten by a bug! How are you feeling? Do you need a doctor?"
"Honey. Sweetie. I'm fine, I've already talked to the doctor." You chuckled as you tried to soothe your frazzled husband.
"You have? That's great! What did they say?"
"Well…" You trailed off. This wasn't going as planned. Your plan was to visit him in his office and surprise him with the little gift bag in your hand; from there, you hopped, he'd get the picture. The top item was a cute little 'I'm a riot' Red Riot baby onesie you in the merch store down the street. The next was a mini-set of red baby crocs. If he didn't get it at that point across, your last resort was the medical report from the doctor's office, showing that you were, in fact, pregnant. You made sure to highlight it, just to be safe.
"I'm afraid you're just going to have to be blunt about it (Y/N). He's really not getting it. Congratulations btw the way!" Fatgum was chuckling slightly still as he scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"S-sorry if we mess anything up…" Amajiki mumbled apologetically.
"Thanks! And don't worry about Amajiki, it's fine! This works out better anyway!" You smiled over at the two before turning your attention back to the love of your life.
"Congratulations? Wait, what don't I get? Babe, please tell me what's going on". The worry in his eyes nearly broke your heart.
"Honey" You grabbed his face with both hands and made him look you right in the eyes. "I'm pregnant."
His body stilled, and his eyes were wide. He just stood there staring at you for the longest time; you swear you could almost see the little hamster in his head go flying off its wheel and pinball around his skull.
"Eiji? Did you hear me?" No response. He didn't even seem to be breathing. "I think I might have broken him." You glanced over to the older man in yellow before returning to those crimson orbs.
You were honestly starting to get worried at this point. Was he just shocked? Was he happy... or... did he not want it? Finally, though, he seems to come back to his senses.
Blink. Blink Blink. Deep breath in. Blink. Blink. Deep breath out.
"Y-Your…..preg...p-pregnant….."
"Yes. I'm pregnant." You choked a little up as it finally seemed to sink into that thick lovable skull of his. However, his expression didn't waver, and you still couldn't tell whether he was happy or not.
"I'm… going to be a dad?" You could feel him start to tremble beneath your hands.
On no.. he doesn't...
Your eyes started to water, but you try to keep your smile in place. "Y-yes. You are..".
"I'm going to be a… dad?" It was taking everything you had not to break down then and there
But then.. it happened.
You watched as his face lit up with the biggest grin you had ever seen. His eyes glistened with tears until they streamed down his cheeks. "I'M GOING TO BE A DAD!!!!" Your pretty everyone on the whole floor heard his declaration, and before you knew it, you were being dragged into a tight hug and swung around the room.
For the next hour, the two of you laughed, cried, and went around the ENTIRE building so your husband could tell everyone the news.  Afterward, you showed him your little gifts, and that caused another trip around the building so he could show off the baby items and, much to your embarrassment, the test results.
Fatgum quickly realized that nothing else on the planet would get the red headed hero to focus on work right now, so he let him have the day off to celebrate.
After a round of visiting and phone calls to friends and family, the two of you were finally home. The moment the two of you were in your home, he pulled you to your bedroom for the most intense cuddle section you had ever had.
"I'm... going to be a dad…" He whispered while gently rubbing your belly where.
"Yes. Yes, you are." You couldn't help but grin and give him a slow sweet kiss, which he gladly returned.
"God, I love you so much…"
"I love you too. "
"Promise me one thing…"  Suddenly his gaze narrowed as he looked you in the eyes with a serious expression.
"Anything…" You shifted, a little nervous in his abrupt mood change.
"If... If.." He swallowed hard.
"What's wrong, sweetie?" Now you were worried.
"If I'm ever that stupidly dense again, please, PLEASE, knock some sense into me!" You burst into a fit of laughter while he just pokes his lip out in a pout. "I'm serious! Get someone, anyone to knock me into next week! Tetsu, Bakugou, Hell call Midoriya! After everything I missed, I deserve a Detroit smash upside the head!"

Late Night Scare
It took a while for Stephen to remember why he got out of bed at two o'clock in the morning. The moment he stood up, he completely blanked and stood by the bed in complete darkness for a few minutes, trying to remember. He felt ridiculous when he finally realized it was because nature was calling rather urgently. One would think that a full bladder would be enough of a hint, but sometimes when Stephen was tired enough, he could ignore it. He shuffled with a tired yawn toward the adjoining bathroom, and when he finished, he washed his hands and started to head back to bed.
Then he heard it.
A strange noise that almost sounded like a baby's cry, but it wasn't Lucy. She was fast asleep in her crib. Stephen went over to the bedroom door instead and opened it, and followed the noise down the hall to Diana's room. Maybe Valerie woke up and was too scared to walk down the hallway to the master bedroom? It was pretty dark. But when he opened the door, he found both girls asleep. The sound had stopped too so Stephen figured it had been a figment of his imagination and stepped into the room to make sure Diana and Valerie were properly covered.
Valerie was comfortably cocooned in her blankets, so all Stephen had to do was pull some of them away from her face to keep her from suffocating herself. Diana was similarly covered, but she only had the blankets pulled over her shoulders so he left her as she was. With another yawn, Stephen turned back toward the door but something caught the corner of his eye and he could swear he felt his heart skip a beat. There on a branch of the tree just outside the window were two tiny glowing eyes staring right at him. Then Stephen heard the sound from earlier again and realized that the eyes belonged to an owl. A very small one based on the yellow eyes.
"Mommy?" Diana sits up and rubs her eyes.
"Go back to sleep. I was just checking on you and your sister because I heard something." Stephen says softly. "It was just an owl."
"Oh. That's just Pudge." The little girl mumbles as she slips out of bed and walks over to the window.
Stephen wasn't sure what to say. He was curious to see what would happen, so he just watched as Diana quietly opened the window. She called quietly to him and to the sorcerer's surprise, the tiny owl flew over immediately and landed on her shoulder. Diana yawns and closes the window before walking back over to bed, and as she crawls back into bed, Pudge flies off her shoulder and perches on her headboard. Stephen was too tired to care and there had been no evidence of Pudge being in the room that he had seen before even though he was positive this wasn't the first time Diana let him inside. So he just walked over to tuck his daughter in.
"We'll talk about how this happened at a more decent hour." Stephen mumbles and kisses her forehead.
"Kay...good night." Diana whispers.
"Good night."
Stephen finally left the bedroom as quietly as he came in and walked back down the hall toward the master bedroom. He didn't go in before sending a small spell into Scott and Quill's room though. He could hear the god snoring, and even though it sounded like a large cat purring and Scott could sleep through it, Stephen was pretty sure that Sam wasn't appreciating it. Quill's snoring stopped abruptly and there was a confused 'what the hell babe' followed by some shifting, and then silence.
Times like this made Stephen appreciate the soundproofed bedrooms, but then again, everyone had their own floors that they shared with one or two other members.
He finally went to bed and gently pet Athena's head when she lifted it curiously, and that was enough to get her to go back to sleep as he laid down. She still had her spot at the edge of his bed, but after a while of trying to get up whenever he did in the middle of the night, she eventually learned that he would be right back and stayed on the bed. Athena was loyal, but she was smart. Stephen was sure that he could call for her if he ever needed her in the middle of the night, and she would come running immediately.
Stephen was able to fall asleep easily, but when he woke up a few hours later, a thought occurred to him. "It's another Disney reference." He mumbles to himself and sits up.
"What're you mumbling about Duchess?" Tony asks half-asleep and looking reluctant to sit up.
"Pudge the fish." Stephen answers with no context and figured he probably sounded a little insane.
"No more Lilo and Stitch for you." Tony groans and finally sits up to plant a kiss on his cheek. "Morning."
"Morning. I think there's a new pet."
"What? You got an animal tingle now?" Tony teases.
"No. Checked on the girls earlier because I heard a noise." Stephen says. "Turned out to be an owl that wanted to be inside with Diana."
Tony looks at him while processing his words and then eventually sighs. "How come Peter is the only one that brought home a normal pet?"
"At least you admit that Gerald isn't a normal pet either." Stephen snorts
"I think he's more Sam's at this point anyway."
The two get out of bed and get dressed for the day, and then go downstairs to start breakfast when Lucy shows no signs of waking. They had a monitor downstairs in case she did, but it was nice being awake before all of the kids and enjoying a quiet morning. It wouldn't last. Athena had followed and slipped outside through the pet door, but she was back soon enough and Stephen had already put her breakfast in her bowl. Tony actually took the reins on breakfast so all Stephen did was start the coffee and make himself some tea before grabbing a crossword puzzle and sitting down at the kitchen table with it. It was something he tried to do every morning when his hands weren't too bad, and he was definitely going to take advantage of the few moments of quiet while it lasted.
He got a grand total of five minutes before Quill came down with Emir and Flynn and herded them out the door.
"Don't bring back any presents." The god tells them before shutting the screen door and leaving the main door open.
"Look honey. He has pants on." Tony cackles.
"Well now I gotta take them off." Quill retorts and reaches down.
"If you do, I'll make sure you have to take Viagra for the rest of your life." Stephen says as he fills in an answer.
He had to keep himself from laughing when Quill looked at him like he was trying to figure out if he was joking or not. He was, but Quill didn't need to know that. Stephen's magic had a decent effect on the man even though he was a god, so he had good reason to worry. Quill did instead sit at the breakfast counter and watch Tony make breakfast.
"There's a legend about Scott you know." Tony starts and Quill looks at him skeptically.
"Wait, what? What legend?"
"The legend goes that if you shake an orange juice carton, he'll appear out of nowhere."
Quill looks at him flatly. "You're an asshole but it's probably true."
Stephen and Tony burst into laughter and the engineer pulls out all of the juice and puts it on the counter in preparation for the kids that would no doubt soon be waking up. Stephen watches in amusement as Quill picks up the carton of orange juice and he stares at it intently before shrugging and shaking it.
"Hey, can you pour some of that for me?" Scott mumbles from the stairs and Quill jumps in his seat as the younger man joins him at the breakfast counter.
Tony and Stephen burst into hysterics again. It was probably just coincidence but the fact that it happened was the greatest coincidence yet. Scott usually wasn't awake this early in the morning.
"Here. Just drink from the carton." Quill mumbles and hands it over.
"Is there apple juice?" A small voice asks and Stephen looks back over to the stairs and forces himself to calm down when he finds Diana helping Valerie down the stairs.
Pudge was comfortably perched on her shoulder with his chin tucked into his chest. Likely dozing since owls were nocturnal animals. Stephen helped Valerie into the chair next to him when they finally reached the bottom and walked over, and Diana sat across from him after Pudge moved to perch on the back of her chair. He was kind of cute. He was copper-brown and white, and maybe the size of Tony's fist which is how he was able to sit on Dia's shoulder so comfortably. He was familiar with the little girl and didn't seem bothered by everyone in the house, so Stephen assumed the tiny owl had been around for a while now.
"What's the story with the bird piccola?" Tony asks as he starts plating food.
"I found him on the ground outside. His wing was broken so I healed it." Diana answers and accepts the glass of juice her father places in front of her. Valerie got a juice box. "Now he likes to play with me. He goes outside to eat but then he'll come back when he's done."
"Has he had any accidents in the house?" Stephen asks.
"Nuh-uh. I told him he has to do that outside." She sips her juice.
Stephen looks at her in surprise. "You know how to do that?"
"I wanted to, so it was easy."
Right. Diana could simply want for something to happen and she would easily be able to do it. She still needed training but she had natural control over her powers and Stephen wasn't too worried about it. Stephen also wasn't surprised when his husband simply nodded and started making more food for everyone else after he served everyone currently in the kitchen. Tony was used to kids and animals being brought home at this point, though Stephen was pretty sure that he would put his foot down if someone tried to bring home an elephant.
It sounded like something Harley would do.
"Hey Pudge." Peter walks over and gently scritches the top of his head and the owl spreads his feathers with enjoyment. "Did you tell Emir and Flynn they can't eat him?" He asks Diana and she nods since her mouth was full of scrambled eggs.
"Athena too." She says once she swallows.
"Let it be known that I draw the line at anything bigger than Emir." Tony grumbles and Harley groans as he walks downstairs.
"Man! I was gonna find a giraffe!"
Stephen knew his children well.
"Emir is pushing it but since he was abused and Quill and Scott have to take care of him, I don't care as much." Tony says and hands a plate to the boys.
"Emir is a good boy." Scott argues.
"I think he's part cow," Quill adds. "He makes a noise that sounds like he's mooing when he's happy."
The screen door rattles and Harley looks over to find Flynn peeking through the screen and swishing his tail. He walks over and opens the door and snickers when he finds that the fox had been standing on the tiger's head so he could look into the door. It wouldn't have made sense otherwise since the kit was too small standing on his own. Flynn happily ran over to his bowl to scarf down his breakfast but Emir bypassed his to walk over to Scott and nudge him with his head and almost knocked the man over.
"Alright, alright!" Scott grabs a piece of bacon off his plate and feeds it to the tiger. "There. Now go eat your own food!"
There was a whoosh of air and then one of the free spots at the breakfast counter was occupied by Thomas. "Are you making sausage too?!"
"I'm making pretty much everything." Tony confirms. "Can you go check on Lucy?"
"Steve is getting her. She was crying." Thomas says and Tony frowns.
"What? I haven't heard anything." He puts his spatula down to pick up the baby monitor.
"Probably because it's not on." Peter points out and Tony sighs.
"My poor baby. She could have been crying this whole time." Tony bemoans.
Peter shakes his head. "I didn't hear her when I got up."
"She just started before I came down." Thomas reassures just as Steve and Bucky walk down with the infant.
"I changed her for you." The captain says and Stephen melts a little when he hears her snuffle. "She's probably just hungry now."
"Just give her to Mom." Bucky says and smirks when Stephen glares at him. "I'm kidding."
Steve and Bucky sat in the living room with Lucy and everyone else eventually made their way down for breakfast. Wanda was kind enough to make the baby a bottle before taking over cooking so Tony could eat, and soon enough everyone had their breakfast. Diana went outside with Valerie and Pudge and when Stephen was finished, he put his plate in the sink before following the girls with Athena at his heels. It was a nice day and he decided to enjoy it on one of the lawn chairs outside with a book, and it was even close enough to keep an eye on Valerie. Diana knew how to swim but Valerie didn't...and even then he felt better supervising them even if they weren't swimming. Toddlers had a tendency to get distracted by things and unknowingly walk into danger to investigate.
"Oof!" Stephen grunts when Athena jumps onto the chair with him and lays on him. He chuckles once they're both comfortable and pets her head. "I take it the ground isn't enough today." She lays her head on his stomach with a content huff and Stephen smiles and briefly opens a small gateway to grab a book. "Good girl."
"Eww! Bug!" Valerie says from the makeshift tent.
Before Stephen could even sigh, he heard the brief sound of flapping and then an audible crunch, and then another sound of disgust from Valerie.
"Pudge ate it!" Diana announces.
"Now we have free pest control." Stephen mumbles to himself.

The Trieste Venture (End) - S Nami Bolg
In this entry, the MC sings a song that is commonly heard in Russia around Christmas time though it’s not necessarily a Christmas Song.
"We actually survived." Lu Mingfei gasped. "I thought several times that I should start chanting poems."
Chu Zihang was next to you, checking your blood pressure. You were still far too weak to participate in the conversation. Or even get annoyed at Mingfei again. All your strength reserves were completely exhausted. Caesar was strapped into his seat but still out cold.
So he prattled on. "I used to read a book and said that Japanese generals would recite a death poem when they died." He rolled his eyes up to the sky. "What is "Heaven" There must be light at the end, and the clouds and mists are scattered. There is only a bright moon in the heart. Forty-nine years of prosperity, a dream, a wine cup in the first phase of glory, and what else is there? When I wake up, I will go to sleep", he recited. "I thought that was particularly sensational."
  "It wasn't that they started chanting just before they died," Chu Zihang said. "In fact, most Japanese military commanders have a mediocre level of education. They used to find someone who could write poetry to do it well, and they just chanted before they died. "
  "That’s what I said. What if I only say 'Heroes forgive me, there are no poems left?’"
Chu Zihang let the air out of the blood pressure cuff and held up his blade. "I need to check your blood. Sorry."
"Don't worry about it." You turn away but can help but flinch when the blade scores your skin.
What comes out is a mixture of crimson and inky black ooze. It seemed to be a fifty fifty ratio.
"Is it bad?"
"It's not good. If you use Blood Rage again there's no saving you. I'll have to kill you."
"Thanks."
Chu Zihang suddenly stared at you, unsure of what you're thanking him for. If he asked, you're not sure you could answer.
"I feel dizzy."
"We're low on oxygen… but also Something else survived," Chu Zihang said.
You looked at the screen, thousands of black shadows were floating up from the bottom of the sea at high speed, gathering together like black vortexes. The group of mermaid hybrids, the last group who escaped from Takamagahara, was exceptionally large; they were not affected by the nuclear explosion. A huge figure appeared in the black whirlpool formed by the mermaid group. Every time it swept the sea with its long tail, it was accompanied by countless undercurrents and countless whirlpools. The mermaids floated around it, because when the thing was swimming, an upward high-speed current was formed around it, just like fish schools like to migrate with giant whales sometimes. The fastest were already approaching the Trieste, and under the spotlight, their ice crystal-like tusks reflected dazzling light.
"Do you still want to chant poems now?" Chu Zihang asked.
"Like a hero!" Lu Mingfei sobbed.
The depth is about 3,000 meters, and when the inertia brought by the nuclear explosion shock wave is exhausted, they will have no way to accelerate.
Chu Zihang might be able to release Royal Fire again, but the submersible could not withstand the impact. The outer shell was making a frightening tearing sound, and the resin porthole was deforming at a speed visible to the naked eye. Royal Fire and the nuclear explosion shock wave caused irreversible damage to the shell of the deep submersible, so it would be nice if they could float to the surface in this way. The remaining hope is the safety rope. You're just waiting for Chisei's safety rope to pull.
"I seem to hear the sound of cracking eggs." Lu Mingfei whispered.
"This is our shell cracking." Chu Zihang said.
It did sound like the sound of an eggshell breaking, and the cracks slowly extended on the surface. The sound of metal tearing and curling was sickening, and it was followed by a "pop", and then the sound of fluid surging.
"It is leaking, but the water has not intruded into the cockpit." Chu Zihang said, "Trieste has a double metal shell, with light kerosene between the two layers. Now the shell is perforated and the kerosene is leaking."
"Hey Sumeru! Sumeru! Hurry! We need the support of a safety cable!" Chu Zihang yelled.
"They're not answering." You whisper. You're feeling sleepy. At any moment, your eyes will close and you won't open them again. Exhausted from the fight, Blood Rage and the serum, the lack of oxygen won't allow you to regain strength.
The Trieste stopped ascending, and now it was surrounded by a group of mermaids.
The behemoth floated in the observation window. It was a black dragon swinging its long tail in the sea. That was the thing that was struggling in the crack in the seabed just now. At the last moment it finally broke through the seabed and escaped. Its golden pupils are like giant candles, and its decayed body is draped with ancient armor. The armor is connected by layers of bronze chains. Between the bare ribs, swimming in the abdominal cavity, were a swarm of ghost tooth dragon vipers! It turns out that the body of this thing is the nest of the ghost tooth dragon viper. As if thousands of lights were lit at the same moment, the eyes of the sleeping fish all awoke. Endless numbers press to chew their way into the cockpit. The king of these mutants opens its mouth in a silent roar, and his teeth are as transparent as crystal.
To your oxygen starved brain, the lights of their eyes and the silvery flashing of scales and teeth become mixed with the dreamy memory of Christmas lights and falling snow.  You suddenly feel warm inside and smile. It was irritating, but Racoon Boy is right. You really want to sing right now.
S Nami Bolg, ‘God is With Us’ was that old Christmas song, a triumphant challenge to opponents. The lyrics said that if they so much as dared come against them, they would be met with a resounding defeat. But it was easy for children to learn, because all they needed to know were the words “God is With Us” to sing along after every verse.
In your mind, as you sing the lyrics in the mix of a voice and a hoarse whisper, you can hear the voices of your friends, older and younger, singing with you as you stare into the eyes of the decayed dragon without a trace of fear. You can almost feel Renata standing beside you. She always had a sweet voice and you worked to match the way hers sounded in your mind. You imagine her glancing at you with her coquettish, mischievous manner. Your attempts to match hers weren’t a challenge but what was friendship without at least a little rivalry?
So your voice grows stronger with hers trembling in the soprano range.
“God is with us! Understand this, O nations, and submit yourselves! Hear this, even to the farthest bounds of the earth. For God is With us… God is with us…”
Chu Zihang sat back in his seat with a soft sigh. By the third lyric, he could mouth the words, God is with us, in Russian.
The dragon slowly opened its ribs as to though answer this challenge, and the ghost tooth dragon vipers leaped out of their nest. They pounced on the Trieste. It was like the sound of millions of silkworms chewing on mulberry leaves, violently biting. Outside, the portholes are densely packed with the golden eyes of the fish and the teeth marks on the plexiglass are growing deeper. There were terrible sounds in all directions. The fish were not only biting the plexiglass, but also drilling holes in the metal bulkhead. Thousands of them are now swimming between the outer shell and the inner shell. These fish that can chew through anything, are eating the fiber optic cables and the insulation as though it were food.
The lights on the control consoles went out. The water pressure meter and the ampere meter swung to zero.
The last layer to protect them was the metal inner shell.
Chu Zihang reached out his hand to you and it closed around your fingers. “It was nice meeting you.” He said.
“Same.” You replied.
You turn to Lu Mingfei who took your other hand. “I’m also… very happy.” His voice was choked. “I’m sure… the Boss would say something heroic but… I’m sure he’s happy he met you too.”
You let out a breath. “It’s weird… I’m saying good-bye ag-...”
You never finish that sentence. The porthole collapsed and the sea filled the cockpit like a sledgehammer, breaking the supports holding your seat to the deck and then tearing you out of the seatbelts themselves. You’re violently sucked out of the cockpit and into the swirling ocean with nothing to protect you from the frigid water or the debris. Things are striking you and you’re filled with fear, but your eyes are squeezed tightly shut.
You feel a sudden burst of heat and the debris striking you is blown away. Royal Fire? You open your eyes but you can’t see anything but blue ocean and a bit of shining light. Your mind, finally starved completely, mercifully shuts down before you can even start to drown.

Demon Slayer! AU (Part 1 - The Beginning)
Ramuda and Jakurai are tossed into a strange new world, but at least they have each other. Things are peaceful at first, but not all happiness lasts.
~~~
“I’m heading out!”
“Be careful,” Ramuda hears Jakurai call out from the depths of the clinic, no doubt busy with another patient. The pattering of footsteps could be heard as children raced around the wooden hut, snow crunching under their feet.
“Are you going to the village today?”
“Ehh? I want to go too!”
Ramuda laughed as the Hanako and Takeo whined. It was almost New Years, so going down and selling charcoal to earn some more money so that everyone could eat to their heart’s content wasn’t a bad idea. Even though Jakurai received many donations throughout the year, even his saintly attitude and charity to every ill and injured person couldn’t keep everyone fed.
“No, none of you can walk as fast as Ramuda. He can’t pull the cart today, so you can’t rest while he gives you a ride,” Suzumi, another live-in patient at the clinic, sighs. The man was still lecturing Hanako and Takeo when Ramuda leaves, waving his goodbyes, but well, that was old man Suzumi for you.
As Ramuda walked down the snowy mountain, his mind drifted. How many years has it been? Five years? Wow, time really has flown bye, he thinks. And it’s probably been even longer for Jakurai. It’s strange, to be stuck in the past with only Jakurai.
Ramuda hummed to himself. Maybe he should buy some fresh eggs – along with mochi of course – while he was in the village! After all, Jakurai always did like having eggs over rice with natto.
They’re facing another bitter and angry person with an illegal microphone. They’re always bitter and angry though, bitter at the changes in the world, angry at their own powerlessness. They’re one of many.
Ichiro, Samatoki, Ramuda, and Jakurai are together, coincidentally, when the man attacks them. They’re not particularly concerned, not at first. They’re known as the top hypnosis mic users for a reason. The Chuuoku is invested in them for a reason.
That quickly changes though when Ichiro disintegrates. And disintegrates he does, starting from his feet and slowly moving up until he’s just… gone. None of them know what’s going on, and by the time they realize what’s happening, Samatoki is already half-gone and Ramuda and Jakurai have already begun to disappear, grain-by-grain.
The perpetrator is laughing now, manically talking about his revenge plans about the Chuuoku, but none of them are listening. They’re frozen, confused and, while they might deny it, terrified.
The last thing they think, before they’re completely gone is: I don’t want to die.
“Well, if it isn’t Ramuda-chan!”
“You really came down on such a cold day? Good work, but you’ll catch a cold, and I’m sure the doctor won’t like that.”
“Oooi! I want to buy some charcoal!”
“Ah, Ramuda! Thanks for repairing my sliding door the other time.”
Ramuda took a deep breath, taking in the scents of the villagers. They’re as busy and energetic as usual, he thinks fondly. Maybe it’s stupid of him, but after so many years in the past and out of the Chuuoku’s control and in better health than he’d ever been, Ramuda couldn’t help but love listening and smelling how people lived and moved… Nah, it was probably the old man rubbing off of him. Eew, Jakurai germs.
“Aaahhh! Ramuda, I’m glad you’re here,” Ramuda turns towards the screaming man. Oof, looks like he pissed off the missus again.
“Can you tell who broke these dishes?! Please help me!”
As the man shoved the broken ceramic towards his face, Ramuda leaned forward to take a whiff. Cat, he thinks, and says as much.
By the time he finishes selling the charcoal, it was beginning to turn dark.
Jakurai’s going to fret again, Ramuda frowns as he makes his way back up the mountain.
“Hey Ramuda! Are you returning up the mountain? At this time? You can’t, it’s dangerous.”
“Huh? I’ll be fine, my nose can smell anything.”
“I’ll let you stay the night, so come. Turn back.”
“But –“
“Enough of that! Come here.”
“Ehh? Mister, what’s got you so scared,” Ramuda sighs, heading over to the hut. Geez, if it weren’t for the fact that Jakurai asked him to play nice with the villagers, he would’ve left Saburo in the dust ages ago.
“Demons will appear,” Saburo replies, with utmost seriousness. Ramuda could practically feel his eyes roll back into the sockets of his eyes. Ugh, every time he thought he was getting used to this place, someone’s always there to remind him that this was the early1900s and people were stupid. Seriously, demons of all things?
As Ramuda settled down for the night, half-heartedly listening to the man’s ramblings about demons, he wondered if the man was lonely. Having lived alone since his family died, Saburo must be pretty lonely. Maybe, Ramuda thinks before drifting off to sleep, he should bring some of the kids to visit next time. He’s sure Hanako and Takeo especially would love the opportunity to meet new people…
Everything is dark… It’s so cold…
He’s drifting, drifting slowly in an abyss of darkness.
Where am I?
What happened?
Ramuda couldn’t remember. Something about an illegal mic, he thinks.
He’s waking up, slowly, and when he does, there’s a familiar scent. Who is it?
“Ah. Good, you’re finally awake,” he hears. The voice is deep, yet gentle and soft, and oh so familiar.
Ramuda turns his head to the side, and then he r e m e m b e r s.
“Jakurai,” he tries to snarl, but his voice is hoarse. It comes out much higher pitched than he’d ever been able to pretend. What the hell?
“Amemura-kun,” the old man greets him, but Jakurai looks much, much younger than Ramuda had ever seen. There aren’t any wrinkles or signs of exhaustion and age that had clung onto Jakurai like a parasite.
“I found you drifting down a river,” the doctor explains quietly, “and I took you back here, to my clinic.”
“Tch,” Ramuda clicks his tongue, “who’d want you of all people to rescue me. Why d’ya have a clinic? Thought you worked at a hospital, or did’ya decide that you’re too good for them?”
Jakurai stills, head tilted, eyes scrutinizing Ramuda. He hates how it feels, the way Jakurai’s gaze seems to burn into him.
“… I see. I suppose you must’ve recently woken up,” Jakurai muses, “you should go back to sleep for now. Rest and recover.”
“Oi, you can’t just say that and not tell me what the hell’s going on!”
“Are you sure you want to know now?”
Ramuda gulped. This felt… serious? He nodded. His vision was starting to darken, sleep trying to pull him into its sweet embrace, but he wanted to know what the hell was going on first, especially with the old man.
“… The illegal microphone, I fear, has tossed us into the past. The Taisho era to be exact,” Jakurai informs him, “I don’t know what happened to Ichiro and Samatoki, but before I found you, I had assumed I was the only one here.”
Ramuda’s vision goes black, sleep pulling him under.
“No. Nononono –“
It’s Suzumi’s body that he sees first, blood soaking the white snow. Underneath the man is one of the kids – Tadashi, Ramuda thinks – and their bodies are cold to the touch and lifeless.
“What – How did this –“
It doesn’t take long for him to see the bloody and broken screen doors of the clinic and the many lifeless and bloody bodies littered on the ground.
Ramuda wanted to scream. What the hell? Suppressing the urge to vomit, he searched through the clinic, hoping to find signs of life.
Hanako, Takeo, Shigeru, Yamato, Sen, Tohru, Sora… The list just went on and on, all the various patients who had come to the clinic in hopes of being healed or saved were dead. The many people that Ramuda had come to love and care about in place of his posse were d e a d.
Jakurai, Ramuda finds though, is still warm. He’s covered in blood just like everyone else, but his breathing was shallow. If… maybe if Ramuda could move fast enough, Jakurai could be saved. Sure, the doctor in the village wasn’t as good as a doctor as Jakurai, but…
Ramuda would save him. He refused to let the stupid old man die too.
He moved quickly to travel back down the mountain, the cold chilling him to the bone and Jakurai’s body acting as a dead weight on his back.
How could such a thing happen? A bear? A bear that didn’t hibernate in the winter?
Fuck, Ramuda thinks, breathing hurts. The winter air was freezing his lung, but he had to move faster. He had to continue moving forward.
I won’t let you die, he thinks furiously, I’ll definitely save you, Jakurai.
He’s… tired. It’s nothing unusual, not particularly, but there’s something about this exhaustion that feels different to Jakurai this time though.
Hunger. There’s an aching sense of hunger in stomach, but why?
The demon! Oh… oh. They were all dead, weren’t they, Jakurai mourned internally. Once again, he was too powerless to protect anyone.
“ – hold it off! I – in you!”
Someone was speaking, but Jakurai couldn’t tell who or what was being said. Why was everything so muddy?
As if the world was trying to convey a message, Jakurai felt himself being flung back, slamming into a tree. He’s being pinned down again, but by who? And why? There’s screaming too, but Jakurai couldn’t make out anything. Why... Why were his senses so dulled? Where was Ramuda? Was he safe?
Bam!
Jakurai’s vision snapped back into focus, just in time to watch as this strange man was pinning him down slam the handle of the katana (what the hell, a small part of his mind whispers, how the fuck does this kid have a katana) onto Ramuda’s back.
As Ramuda’s axe swung towards the man, Jakurai quickly spun into action, breaking free of the man’s hold, and making a grab for the fallen pink-haired boy.
Crouching in defensive position in front of Ramuda, Jakurai glared. He might not know what was happening, but he knew enough that this man could be a danger to himself, and more importantly, to Ramuda.
“I will not let you hurt him,” he tells him, voice hoarse and with a hint of growling for some odd reason.
He hears Ramuda cough, “Finally awake, you stupid old man? Took you long enough.”
Jakurai deigned not to respond, keeping the man within his vision. Ramuda had fallen unconscious, but how did he know this? Everything felt so much clearer and sharper now, his ears picking up even the smallest of footsteps of the critters in the forest to even Ramuda’s heartbeat.
“You,” Jakurai focused back on to the strange man, “Are you… protecting him?”
He doesn’t respond. Was this a trick? Of course he was protecting him. The man in front of him scrutinized them for a couple more seconds, neither party moving a muscle.
“I… I’m going to take a chance with you,” the man slowly says, “but if attack… I won’t hesitate to decapitate you.”
It took a couple seconds of silence, but as soon as Jakurai nodded back, the man turned around, facing a patch of bamboo. With movement faster than his eyes could follow, the man cut the bamboo into pieces.
“Here,” he motioned towards Jakurai. “Bite on this bamboo. It’ll be better than biting the insides of your mouth.”
At this, Jakurai finally noticed that he’d been biting hard enough to taste blood. That was not good. The gnawing hunger was starting to get stronger and stronger, but he now knew better than to fall prey to it. It was a hunger for the flesh of humans, a hunger that only demons had.
Taking the bamboo, Jakurai ripped a piece off his haori and laced it through the sides before securing it around his head and mouth. The bamboo would eventually start biting into his gums, Jakurai realized, but this would do for now. At least until Jakurai had time to meditate and get himself back under control.
“You must never bite anyone. You must never eat a human. If you do, I will cut you down. Do you understand?”
Jakurai pulled out of his thought. Reaching for the bamboo, he moved it aside to answer the man.
“Rest assured,” Jakurai quietly tells him, “My purpose is to serve humanity.”
The man looks startled at the answer, but Jakurai stays firm, light blue eyes never wavering from the man’s darker blue ones.
“My name is Tomioka Giyuu,” the newly named Tomioka tells him, “And when that boy wakes up, tell him to visit the elder named Urokodaki Sakonji living at the foot of the misty mountain. Tell him that I sent you.”
With that, Tomioka began to retreat, leaving Jakurai and the still unconscious Ramuda behind.
“Also, don’t go out in the sun,” Tomioka tells him as one last goodbye before disappearing from sight.
Jakurai let himself relax once the man was out of sight. God, what a mess. Everyone was dead now… And he was a demon? It seems that his original theory of being in the past might not be as accurate as he’d first thought…
But for now, it was time to bury the bodies. If this Urokodaki could help them, could inform them more about this strange world, then Jakurai would go. Ramuda will not be hurt, not by Jakurai, not by whatever dangers this world posed.
Jakurai refused to let another person die, not if he could save them.
Kind, Giyuu thinks to himself as he returns to report to Oyakata-sama. The purple-haired demon's eyes were kinder than any human he'd ever encounter, except for maybe Oyakata-sama. There was an air of kindness and charisma that the demon had that Giyuu had encountered only once before in his life.
It's strange, but Giyuu couldn't help but look forward to seeing what the duo would do. A demon who refused to eat people and a human who swore that he would turn the demon back into a human. Two impossibilities, yet here they were.
Sending them to his teacher was probably for the best. Urokodaki would train the boy to fight demons. The future, Giyuu thinks, might be pretty interesting.
The latest in a line of therapeutic robotic assistants, here is the latest in her lineage, in the circuits and metal herself: MY-3, the Former Ultimate Robot!
——————-————————————
BACKSTORY AND TALENT
MY-3 (nicknamed “Mythie”, and eventually “Myth) was the third and most recent creation created by a pair of robotic engineering geniuses. MY-3 was created to  become a therapeutic robot, with her adorable appearance, personality, and voice, that makes her a massive success with both children, and even many adults, who find MY-3’s various adorable qualities to be calming and soothing. Many functions, such as a built-in oven, and a built-in musical speaker and TV, can offer different coping mechanisms, for all sorts of patients. All of those qualities resulted in a massive recovery success rate at the mental treatment facility that she currently works at, when not attending Hope’s Peak and learning more about humans and their behaviors. There otherwise isn’t that much backstory on MY-3, for she was only created about 3 or 4 years ago. Myth is currently working in Ward #137, helping Anons recover mentally from anxiety attacks and/or assorted mental trauma, and this story would center on Myth helping these Anons through their mental pain and trauma.
——————————————————-
RELATIONSHIPS
Wyre Anon, Former Ultimate Entomologist
Wyre’s parents and Myth’s parents have been scientific business partners for a long time, and regularly collaborate on many projects together, namely studying bugs, in order to figure out how their robotic bugs are supposed to move. Despite Wyre’s rough demeanor and equally as dirty and gritty talent, Myth can’t deny that Wyre was only the bestest friend that she could ever ask for. As long as Wyre’s insects didn’t make their way into her circuits, Myth always found the various insects Wyre brings over to her fascinating. But for now, many of the now-fragile patients would rather not witness their much-cherished insect companions, much to the entomologist’s anger and dismay.
Outfit: A tan safari outfit with a red tie and an off-white pith helmet, off-white socks and brown shoes, regularly carries a butterfly net, the glasses from their original design.
Anon Scar, Ultimate Aikido Master
Growing up with severe emotional and self-esteem issues, Scar’s parents sent her off to a temple and had an old master teach her all about using aikido (or the Art of the Demons, as the old master called it) to maintain emotional control. Scar’s skill in aikido gave her both something to be proud of and something to control her overflowing emotions. Unfortunately, her old master eventually passed away, and she more-or-less regressed into her old pre-aikido behavior. MY-3‘s tranquil presence and reassuring words regularly calmed the aikido master down, during her emotional highs, and allowed her true maternal side to show, especially when it came to teaching younger Anons about aikido.
Outfit: Hair in a ponytail held by a purple bow, a black coat slung over her shoulders like a cape over a white robe with purple hakama pants, bandaged arms, white ankle socks.
Fusion Anon, Ultimate Pianist
Revered by many classical music enthusiasts for being a piano-playing prodigy ever since he was a little boy, no one can deny that Fusion is both passionate in playing the piano and composing his own piano music. Unfortunately, the stress that came from being a musical wunderkind and his strict and overbearing parents repeatedly entering him in contests and forcing him to practice endlessly, in order to win prize money, caused Fusion to suffer a mental breakdown on stage, and, in humiliation and shame, ran away to never play on stage again. Fusion loves to teach those willing to learn about music, but Myth couldn’t help but detect pain hidden by that cheery and food-stuffed grin.
Outfit: A blue jacket with golden music note shaped buttons and black and white stripes on the sleeves, over a red hoodie, black and white fingerless gloves, yellow and blue headphones around his neck, glasses, pants, and shoes from his original design.
Fusion II, Ultimate Detective
Born to a police commissioner father and a criminal prosecutor mother, Fusion II always wanted to pursue a career in justice, and managed to get her wish, when she became a prodigy detective in her preteen years. Unfortunately, in her first major murder case (which she managed to solve in under a day), when she managed to expose the culprit, the insane and enraged culprit pulled out a knife and gouged one of Fusion II’s eyes out, which gave her severe trauma, and encouraged her to never pursue another murder case again. While Fusion II‘s knowledge on memes helps educate MY-3 on human internet culture, it’s clear to MY-3 that her sarcasm and meme references are hiding some severe past pain.
Outfit: A black and blue fedora, a black eyepatch that hides her gouged-out eye, a blue trench coat over a white button up shirt and a red necktie, black gloves, a black and blue skirt, long white socks and black heeled boots.
Just Anon, Ultimate Tennis Pro
Similar to Fusion, Janon is a prodigy that is well-renowned by both his adoring fans from his highly-prestigious private boarding school and tennis enthusiasts everywhere. Being raised to uphold his family’s legacy, ever since he was a toddler, Janon wants nothing more than to leave his family and actually get a chance to relax between etiquette lessons and constant tennis matches that come with autograph sessions. Janon’s cramped schedules eventually lead to burn-out and mental roadblock, earning him a spot in the ward. MY-3‘s overly affectionate attitude definitely rubbed the athlete the wrong way, and would much rather either take a long nap or dote on the Jr. Ultimates.
Outfit: The bunny hoodie and mask from his original design over a pink and blue tennis uniform.
Sparkle Anon, Former Ultimate Supreme Leader
With a love for the histrionics and a 30-person group at her fingertips, Sparkle doesn’t seem to like divulging into the specifics of her talent, for all she was willing to reveal about her organisation was that it, “SEEKS TO MAKE SHINING DIAMONDS OUT OF INSIGNIFICANT LUMPS OF COAL“. Ever since this theatrical self-proclaimed dictator arrived at the ward, she’s been trying to get people to join her group. Not even MY-3 seems to know what Sparkle is even doing at this ward, for she wasn’t scheduled for this (or any, for that matter) wards at the psychological ward. But that doesn’t mean MY-3 wouldn’t try to crack the rhinestone-covered enigma that is Supreme Leader Sparkle.
Outfit: A pink sparkly captain’s cap, hair in a sideplait, a blue suit and matching pants, a rainbow colored necktie, the cape and boots from her original design, always carries her sceptre.
Egg Anon, Former Ultimate Cosplayer/Assassin, and Wet Sock Anon, Former Ultimate Magician
The genius combination of the twin’s talents, with Wet Sock‘s brilliant magic shows and Egg’s ability to disguise themselves and blend in with the crowd, allows Egg’s true talent to shine and Egg to shank their targets from the shadows. They also regularly pull the classic “twin switch” in both their operations and their prison escapes, and nobody could even tell the difference. It’s very clear that their parentless and tragic lives on the streets took a toll on their psyche, and once the cops found the twins, they hauled them over to the ward and left them in the care of the therapists and MY-3. Egg and Wet Sock always love to mess with MY-3 and her functions, but they’re secretly thankful for her help.
Both Outfits: Standard stage magician tuxedo, cape, and hat.
Curious Anon, Jr. Ultimate Inventor
Born and raised in a war-torn territory and underneath a cruel and exploitative government, upon finding out their gift in mechanics and coming up with plans, Curious was raised to be both an inventor and a test subject for said inventions, and Curious, being the passive soul that they are, never stood up against the cruel government that they lived under, even after the constant experiments gave them both physical and mental scars. Eventually, after the war ceased, somebody found Curious, and hauled them off to the psych ward. Curious’s kind and passive nature made them really great friend with the equally kind robot, but MY-3 knew that no one can handle what was thrown at the inventor, without consequences.
Outfit: Sickly green skin with stitches and scars all over their body and bolts in their neck, an off-white jumpsuit with black and yellow gloves, and matching boots and goggles, long messy hair.
Anon Nerd, Former Ultimate Butler
In order to step above all of the other more desirable kids residing in the orphanage alongside him, young Nerd quickly practiced crafts of cleanliness and order (namely cooking and cleaning living spaces). Eventually, those skills managed to get him picked up by a family that only uses him as a personal butler (and occasional bodyguard, why else would a butler carry around a volatile scouter, and a temper twice as large?), and never as their actual child. Eventually, after shouldering their abuse into his adult years, Nerd snapped and set fire to the mansion with his scouter, earning him a spot in the ward’s roster. MY-3 considers Nerd to be one of the tougher cookies to crack, due to his temper.
Outfit: Literally the exact same outfit but with gloves and longer coattails.
Eldritch Anon, Ultimate Artist
Desperately yearning for the “sheep” of the world to ”wake up”, Eldritch channels his pessimistic and paranoid mindset into traditional art (never digital, he doesn’t want to contribute to the robot uprising), and wants everyone who views his artwork (detailing apocalyptic settings and themes of distrust, misanthropy, and all the secretly-disgusting citizens of the world) to frown and spread scowls and distrust amongst the general population. Concerned about his paranoia, Eldritch’s parents sent him off to the ward, to many protests from the tiny artist. Eldritch hates MY-3‘s metallic guts, and always tries to destroy her, before she becomes the leader of the machine uprising.
Outfit: A paint splattered version of his hoodie over a black shirt with a creepy white face design on the front, brown overalls, and yellow and black rainboots.
Dream Anon, Ultimate Anthropologist
Expressing a love of humanity and the varied cultures of them, Dream travels all over the world with grit and determination to learn more about this particular interest of hers. Despite coming off to others as a ditzy jock, Dream is actually a respected figure in the field of anthropology and her anthropology journals are well-known by all in the field. Unfortunately, the reckless anthropologist stumbled into uncharted territory, one day, and got attacked by the territorial natives. It took her several days before her fellow explorers found her again, but the damage has already been done, both physically and mentally. Dream likes to claim she’s fine, but MY-3’s lie detector can see right through Dream.
Outfit: Hair that looks awkwardly lobbed off and scars all across her face and body, a pink cardigan over a tan button-up shirt, a dark brown skirt, black leggings, dark brown Uggs, the sidebag from her original design.
Iris Anon, Jr. Ultimate Adventurer
Not wanted to stay confided in a stuffy orphanage forever, Iris packed a simple backpack, and set off on a world tour, to see all of the fascinating and exotic things that the world has to offer. Despite being a preteen (and a really clumsy one, at that), the sheer reach that Iris had in her travels and her contagious optimism, she has garnered fame all over the world, and gave her the title of Ultimate Adventurer. Iris loves going to hospitals and psych wards and tell stories about her travels, and Ward #137 is definitely no exception. MY-3 loves learning about humans from around the world, but considering Iris’s past, MY-3 can’t help but feel like part of Iris’s optimism is all a facade.
Outfit: Hair cut to her shoulders, a brown leather parka with off-white fluff over a blue tanktop, bright pink pants and glow-in-the-dark sneakers, bandages all over her body, the glasses from her original design.
Purple Anon, Ultimate Astronaut
Raised by two influential pioneers of the scientific industry, Purple showed a promising career as an astronaut, for both her massive knowledge in astronomy and cosmology for someone of her age, and her oddly sturdy body that can take on the hideous vacuum of space, makes her the prime candidate for becoming astronaut. Unfortunately, despite aceing the astronaut exams, various technical difficulties with the spacecraft that she boarded ended up causing both the spacecraft and Purple’s hopes and dreams to crash and burn. Purple’s heavily scientific terms don’t detour the kindly robot from befriending the timid and solemn astronaut, or helping said astronaut to cope with depression and survivor’s guilt.
Outfit: Some hair held up in a small sidetail with a star hairclip, a black overcoat with white star-shaped buttons over a purple sweater, a black skirt with small white dots on them, grey stockings and black Mary Janes.
Getting things out of the way, this non-Kibo-Con AU is far more angsty and hurt-comfort, compared to the standard talentswap AU, for just about everybody has trauma of varying degrees. ——————————————————-
PERSONALITY
Despite her relatively seasoned (read: 4 years old) AI, MY-3 still shows a childlike fascination for humans and how different they are from her, and the eyes on her screen simply sparkle, when she learns more and more about the inner machinations of the very people that created her. Because she is supposed to be a therapeutic robot, MY-3 is determined to use whatever functions she can, to get her patients to open up to her, and finding the root of their problems. So far, MY-3’s therapy was shown to have positive results for just about every client that she interacted with, which proves that she has empathy and understanding of humans way beyond any other robot of her time period, including MY-1 and MY-2.
——————————————————-
APPEARANCE
MY-3 has a screen for a face that has different emoticons for different emotions, and a pink and white chassis. MY-3 has brown synthetic hairs dyed purple at the ends and an ahoge that functions much like a satellite dish. Instead of hands and arms, MY-3 has extendable arms with pink oven mitts on the end of them. As for clothes, MY-3 wears simple blue overalls and a bi pride bandana around her neck, with purple and blue rain boots on her feet.
——————————————————-
I’m sorry for all the trauma and angst I put on you, but I hope you like this AU! I’d love to hear what you think about this AU!
I was SHOCKED to see that you said you will write for Kingdom! not many people even KNOW about them so I was wondering if you could write (and this was inspired by the vlive where Jahan {who happens to be my bias} sneezed 10 times) where after the vlive was over he is still sneezing a lot and his band mates are super concerned. (I wasn't exactly 100% sure how to explain it,but you are a good writer so it will obviously be good)
Here it is hope you enjoy.
Unknown Allergies can be Miserable
Jihun was extremely happy when the vlive finally ended. His nose had gotten insanely itchy shortly before the group went live, and then he couldn’t stop sneezing during the live. He even kept his hand hovering near his mouth and nose when he spoke, just in case he was overcome by a sneeze while talking.
His nose was still extremely itchy, but at least he wasn’t being broadcasted live in front of thousands of people anymore. “Hih-ischh, heh-tschh.” Jihun groaned as he sneezed yet again. He wasn’t even sure how many times he had sneezed. “Jihun-ah, are you feeling okay? You’ve been sneezing an awful lot.” Dongsik asked his roommate while handing him a box of tissues he’d found.
Jihun gratefully took the tissue box before grabbing a couple of tissues and blowing his nose rather productively. He cringed a little bit at how much he managed to empty into the tissues before grabbing a couple more and sneezing again. “ I honestly don’t know hyung. I just can’t seem to st-stop.” Jihun sniffled and then rubbed vigorously at his nose in hopes of ridding his nose of the constant itch.
Seungbo approached two, concern evident on his face. He promptly placed the back of his hand against Jihun’s forehead and frowned a little. “You don’t feel like you have a fever, but that doesn’t mean you’re not getting sick. I think we should head back to the dorm so you can rest.” The other members nodded in agreement and went to gather their things.
When the seven men arrived at the dorm, Seungbo gave Jihun the option of the couch or his bed. Jihun, not feeling like isolating himself from everyone except his roommates, decided to go to the couch.
Yunho announced that he was making soup for dinner and was making it a little on the spicy side in hopes of clearing out his donsaeng's sinuses a little. Yoosung had come into the living room with tissues, a trash can, and a thermometer. He promptly stuck the thermometer in Jihun's mouth and began to wait.
As they were waiting for the thermometer to beep, Jihun felt the all too familiar tickle that had been plaguing him all afternoon resurface.
He immediately grabbed a handful of tissues and held them up to his nose, hoping that he could stave off the inevitable until after his temperature had been taken. Jihun's breath began to hitch.
Right when it seemed he was going to lose control, the thermometer finally beeped. Jihun's resolve broke right then and there. "Hih-nxtshh, heh-stishhh' HEH-ISTIEW' HUH-UGHIEW." Jihun sighed as he threw the soiled tissues away and grabbed more to blow his chapped nose.
Yoosung looked at the reading. "The thermometer says 98.9, your temp is slightly elevated, but still within the parameters of not being a fever." Jihun groaned at that. "If I had a fever, then it might explain the sneezing as a b-bug of so-some sort heh-stishhh. But I honestly don't know why I'm so sneezy."
Seungjun, and Sungho walked into the room somewhat chaotically as they normally do, but quieted down when they noticed Jihun was evidently still miserable. "Hyung?" Seungjun asked, "Do you know if you have any allergies? If you do, maybe something triggered them." Jihun shook his head. “As far as I know, I’m not allergic to anything.”
Sungho responded “Well it could be something you’ve never been exposed to before, or you could have developed an allergy. Either way, seeing as the symptoms didn’t start until the vlive, your allergen wouldn’t be here in the dorm.” Seungbo nodded before adding, “Unless the allergen is in the hairspray or something. We should all shower and change clothes just to make sure. If it’s allergies your symptoms should go away in a bit. If you’re sick, being here at the dorm isn’t going to change anything.
Everyone agreed and decided to give Jihun the first shower. They all took turns after that. The soup had finished cooking by the time everyone finished cleaning up. Seeing as Yunho had put a decent amount of cayenne pepper into the soup, there was a lot of sniffling to go around. Jihun was still a bit sneezy, however it seemed to be tapering off.
When it came time for bed, Seungbo insisted on setting up the humidifier in the shared room of Jihun, Dongsik, and Sungho. He also gave the second maknae a decongestant to hopefully make it easier for him to sleep. By morning they would know for sure whether Jihun had had an allergic reaction of some sort, had come down with a cold, or a combination.
When morning arrived, Jihun was the last one to wake up. When he did, he was extremely happy that his nose didn’t feel very itchy at all. Jihun left his room and as he was sitting down at the table, was promptly greeted by Seungbo. “How are you feeling Ji?” Seungbo asked while placing a plate of toast and eggs in front of the younger. “I feel a lot better today.” Jihun began eating his breakfast.
About half way through breakfast, Jihun felt the all too familiar itch form in sinuses that had been plaguing him the previous evening. He quickly put down his chopsticks and grabbed his napkin while turning away from the table. “Hih-iktshh, heh-stschh.” He blew his nose then lifted his head to see concerned faces etched into his members faces. Yoosung quickly grabbed the thermometer and stuck it in the younger’s mouth. When it beeped, Yoosung took it out and smiled. “98. 2, you don’t have a fever Jihun-ah.” They were all relieved that it didn’t appear he had a cold.
Jihun was happy at his temp reading, as he truly did feel fine. “Guys, I’m fine. Those were just a couple random sneezes. I don’t feel itchy or anything.” The other six members hummed in acknowledgment. “Even so, I think you should schedule an appointment with an allergist to make sure you’re not allergic to anything.” Dongsik had said. Jihun nodded in agreement and Seungbo went to call their manager to get it set up.
A couple days later Jihun returned from the allergist appointment. He was once again a sniffly and sneezy mess. “So I take it you’re allergic to something?” Seungjun asked. Jihun nodded. “Manager-nim brought a the makeup and hair supplies that were used that day. Apparently I’m alle-itschh allergic to some of the chemicals in the hairspray. But because they hadn’t used the hairspray on me it didn’t really affect me until I was sitting next to Yoosung who had had a decent amount used.” Yunho handed Jihun a box of tissues, who gladly took it and blew his nose. “Manager-nim is going to talk with the stylists about finding hairspray and other products that don’t use the chemical. I’m going to go take a shower to get this off me.” Everyone nodded and was glad that there was a solution to make Jihun better.
NO ARTWORK POSTED IS MY OWN AND IS FOUND ON PINTEREST
——————————————————————
You never thought a place so hated and talked down on could be so- beautiful…. The skyscrapers all painted with glass walls it seemed. Even if it was in constant darkness, the moon- your mother’s moon glittered across the river Styx and reflected off windows. Turning to look at your father you smiled in disbelief, how could some place that was described as eternal damnation, be so- sleek? So aesthetically pleasing to one's eyes? “Are We at the checkpoint, or-” Your father laughed at your obvious amazement
“You hurt me, did you really think that the place me and your mother work constantly at could be horrible?” Izuku chuckled at your pouty face “Well I’m sorry that Everyone always makes a big deal about how scary it is here!” You would cross your arms but you still held the cat in your arms. You both arrived in front of the tallest building and you gulped as you stood in front of it “What if the king hates me?” You hear a small chuckle beside you only to be met with golden eyes
“Lemme guess, you’re a new egg?” Nodding your head, you stared at the winged man in front of you but your father was quick to jump in front of you “Keigo! I see you’re working today… this is my daughter, Y/N.” Your father had a nice smile on his face but his eyes were staring keigo down who had a lazy smirk on his face, golden eyes trained on you “Well, aren’t you a gorgeous little thing” The gods words made your father scowl and you blush
“Keigo, she’s young.” The winged god merely snickered “Relax Izuku! I just like to ruffle your feathers sometimes!” He laughed, a smile on his face as you looked at them curiously “You must be who the mortals call Hermes?” You spoke out, the attention on you now and Keigo nodded “That’s correct chickadee, but you can call me Keigo, or Kei for short” He took your hand and kissed your knuckles, winking at you with a small smile as you blushed and nodded, your father staring in disapproval.
“As much as I’d like to catch up keigo, We have a meeting with Aizawa. Y/N is going to be doing some work for him, today is her first meeting with him.” This peaked the blonde's interest as he raised his eyebrow “Ah, well good luck chickadee. Don’t be a stranger.” He smiled with a nod before flying off, your eyes following his movements “Are all gods that nice?” Your question made your father sigh “Be careful around the men… sometimes they get- power blind.”
His tone made you confused, but it made you remember stories of Zeus, or Enji, many affairs with mortals and nymphs, Queen Rei never once able to do anything about it. Nodding, you just walked in and followed your father, taking in the smoothly functioning atmosphere.
“Why can’t you just do your job quietly and not bother me katsuki?” Aizawa leaned back in his chair from behind his desk and sighed “You’re the God of Death. Your job is to bring the souls here, so what’s the problem?” The monotone voice spoke almost annoyed as red eyes glared, the younger God moving as his grey feathers ruffled in anger. “Because that shitty mail man thinks he’s better than me since you hired him!” Katsuki’s voice strained in anger as he clenched his jaw.
A cigar appeared in the King's hand and he took a couple puffs, before his dark eyes bore into the red ones. Calm anger stirring in them that made the younger God gulp but he still didn’t stand down. “Sit down Katsuki. Since you demand that your complaints are so worth my time, let’s go through this, shall we?” Aizawa’s voice was dripping with cold emotion and Katsuki tensed before sitting down, regretting his decision of coming in
“I hired that, what did you call him? ‘Mailman’, because I saw the population go up in the mortal world. When the population goes up, that means there will be more deaths, correct?” Katsuki moved to speak but Aizawa shook his head, his eyes glowing red in a threat. “I didn’t say you could talk- to be honest, your voice annoys me. So just nod or shake your head.” Huffing, Katsuki nodded as he looked away with a frustrated blush, trying to keep the cough down from the smoke that now filled the room.
“So I do something, nice, and you barge into my office, on MY company time, YELLING at me? I think I’m a pretty reasonable man, there’s never been riots here. No complaints, it runs smoothly, I think that I’ve proven myself to be reliable. Wouldn’t you agree?” The angry king seethed with smoke blowing through his nose, Katsuki only nodded slightly but Aizawa noticed. He always noticed everything. “So if you agree, why come and waste my time when you could've even scheduled a meeting?”
The red eyed man was stuttering, only to be interrupted by some laughing from beyond the office door and in came Hitsoshi, also known as Hecate, followed by Izuku and Y/N. You (e/c) eyes met dark ones that look in desperate need of sleep and a hug, taking a deep breathe you blinked away and tried to hide the blush on your face as you ignored the butterflies in your stomach
“Shouta- I didn’t realize Baku-please just fucking go already, was here” Shinso smirked, earning a glare from Bakugou as he clenched his fist. “You asshole, the next soul I bring will be yours I swear to god-” Before anything could happen, the cat in your arms jumped down and formed into a giant version of itself and hissed at both of them, keeping them apart. Everyone’s attention now on you as you smiled sheepishly.
“Ahem… hi, I’m Y/N, and I’m the Goddess of Monster, and I came to work here with my parents!” Aizawa felt his mouth go dry as he looked at you, eyes quickly skimming your figure and he flinched when he heard a glass picture frame crack on his desk… fucking power losing control. Izuku was by your side and smiling, but also making sure Katsuki and Shinso kept their distance.
“Oh c'mon Izuku, she’s not a child! Look at her-” Shinso smirked lazily as your face grew even redder as you whispered a small thank you. Katsuki tsked and rolled his eyes at you, looking at Izuku with a scowl. “Just because you think you’re some big, don’t expect people to treat her any differently. She’s just some newbie.” Katsuki was grumbling and Izuku huffed at his attitude, but it just made the cat hiss more at Katsuki and nudge Y/N in a comforting way and you finally found your will to speak
“Oh! Y-yes thank you cutie!” You quickly whispered to the cat, before making your way to the king himself and holding out your hand with a smile, “I wanted to thank you for giving me a job, and I heard from my father that you have to stay up guarding the gates to this place yourself, so I made you a little guardian…” Aizawa was stunned and he smiled softly, making every man in the room freeze in their spot as he took your hand gently and shook it. “Thank you… He looks like a Cerberus, doesn’t he?”
You laughed at the name, and oh god your laugh made his heart flutter in a way it hasn’t- well ever before. Looking at you even his eyes smiled slightly before he noticed you two were not alone and he coughed, fixing himself, putting the emotional guard back up and on duty. “But, you really shouldn’t have Y/N…. I hired you because of your abilities and plus every god and goddess that knew you spoke highly of you, so it was a good decision on my part.”
Eyes meeting the ground, you had to bite back the smile on your face as you took in deep breathes, “Well then take Cerberus as my act as your employee. No take backs, plus he really is a sweetheart and he deserves a good owner!” How could Aizawa argue with that? Simply he nodded before looking at the other men and raised his eyebrows, “Well? Don’t you all have jobs? I don’t bite. I just plan on taking her on a door, an orientation if you will.” Nodding, the men left but you father snuck a quick hug before he went. Feeling eyes on you, you looked up and smiled, “I can’t wait to see your kingdom, aizawa…”
*•*
You walked side by side with the king himself, a crown on his head as everyone he passed seemed to hold their breath and straighten up just a little bit more. The sight alone made you giggle, because all these people looked so afraid of a man who smiled so kindly at you, it confused you. “What has you giggling little goddess?” Aizawa’s voice snapped you out of your thoughts and you looked at him and smiled, looking at his raised eyebrows.
“Well… I just- you have the kindest smile I’ve ever seen yet everyone we’ve passed has held their breath and paled like you’re horribly mean. I don’t mean that as offense, I just find that your eyes are too kind to hold any type of evil.” A blush was prominent on your (S/C) cheeks as you finished talking, Aizawa himself seemed to be in a daze. “I’m sorry- that was weird! I didn’t mean to get too personal or weird!” The floor was now deemed more interesting as you started rambling, only stopping when a large hand was placed on your shoulder.
“Thank you… no one has ever said that about me or to me, for that matter, before. It means a great deal…” How he was even forming proper words was beyond him right now because even walking next to you in silence was hard since the smell of your perfume was overwhelming and making his senses go into overdrive, not to mention he can feel your body heat and he so badly wanted to maybe, just maybe, hold your hand. What was he thinking?! He just met you! Fuck fuck fuck- Izuku would kill him- hell he would kill himself for falling for such a young...beautiful… nice… goddess.
“Aizawa-” A hand- no YOUR hand waving in front of his face brought him out of his thoughts and he shook his head cursing under his breath “ ‘m sorry, just got lost in thought…” The soft smile on your face brought his nerves peace. “It’s okay.. we all have those moments! Anyway, you mentioned Tartarus before? Is that one of the places I have to work?” As soon as you mentioned that place, Aizawa’s face grew hard and his eyes were darker with an emotion you couldn’t place. “Promise me you’ll never go near that place little goddess. It’s a horrible place filled with true monsters. And since you’re similar to a fertility goddess, they’ll want to tear you apart.”
Nodding quickly you felt a shiver run down your spine at the demanding tone of his voice and the powerful stance he took. “I promise…” Your voice was a meek whisper and it made Aizawa feel horrible for being so hard on you. “I’m sorry Y/N, I didn’t mean to be so harsh, I just if something happened to you, your father would never forgive me…” and I wouldn’t forgive me, he wanted to scream… but he didn’t want to seem like a creepy old man. Of course it wasn’t weird for gods and goddesses to feel powerful emotions like this but- this was wrong… right?
You merely bit your lip and nodded, before walking forward, “It’s okay ‘zawa, sometimes you can’t turn off being king huh?” Your laughter filled the air and he just followed you as you both continued the tour. Everytime you could, you would sneak a look at the raven haired man, how could someone be so- beautiful? He took your breath away, really every detail was just so pretty, even the scar on his cheek bone, all you wanted to do was touch it and ask him about it then kiss it when he told you.
Sadly, like aizawa, you couldn’t help your thoughts and insecurities get to you as you kept thinking about maybe being flirty, see where it takes you… you were too young, plus you were here for a job! Strictly business! You’d be branded if you got with the king, your parents would be shamed! And if he turned you down what would he think of your parents? Would they lose their work here? Gods you couldn’t do that to them… hell, was he even single?
*•*
“Shoutaaa” A woman's voice made you both jump just as you were coming to the end of the tour, and Aizawa automatically grimace as he saw the green haired nymph. “What do you want Emi?” It was like you weren’t even there as the woman- now known as Emi walked up to Aizawa and flung her arms around his shoulders with a devious smile, “You know what I want…listen I’m sorry for not making it the other week, I was just tired…”
Aizawa pushed her off and scoffed, crossing his arms. “Yeah and I’m tired of you taking me as a joke. You have a job, and you’re lucky you still have that job. Get going” His jaw clenched as you merely looked at the situation, the woman looking taken back, her eyes finally settling on your form “Is it because of her? She doesn’t even look like she could handle you.” Her bluntly lewd statement made both you and aizawa blush before he spoke up in your defense, the lightest blush on his face.
“She’s the daughter of a friend Emi. Not that it’s your concern anyway, but this has nothing to do with her.” Emi rolled her eyes before trailing her fingers down Aizawa’s jaw and clicking her tongue, “You’ll be back.” Her voice was confident and sassy as she turned around and sauntered off, leaving you with a confused face and aizawa looking like he was about to blow. Well… I guess that answers your question. Mentally you just state his relationship status as: ‘It’s complicated’...
