Whumptober 2023 Day 12
Prompt: insomnia
Victim: Legend
Words: 647
Notes: I wanted to put Red in here, but I couldn't come up with anything good, so here's Legend and Warriors.
Legend's sleep schedule had been one of the things he'd lost during his adventures. Normally he didn't have too much trouble sleeping at home, not when Ravio or Zelda were around, and he had the reassurance that he was safe and no one was dying and the country was safe. He'd gotten used to being able to sleep through the night and only wake up once, maybe because he needed to relieve himself or because of a nightmare he'd forgotten about until it tried to slap him in the face.
He hadn't expected to be thrown into another adventure, and now he felt stupid, really stupid, because how could he have possibly believed that? He'd made the mistake of assuming he could retire, settled into an idyllic lifestyle, and now he was struggling to manage his sleep during this new adventure.
It was frustrating. They had a routine because enough of them flat out couldn't function without one, but his body just… wouldn't do what it was supposed to. It was easy enough to stay awake during the night with some strong tea spiked with some stamina elixir that Wild had so graciously given him.
It was much harder to fall asleep, though. He'd done his best to do his bedtime routine even though camping outside almost every single night pretty much made it impossible and he was starting to run out of ideas because he didn't have the time to think about something so stupid when there were a million other, more important things that he needed to be thinking about.
Stupid adventures.
So when he found himself in the corner of an apothecary's shop with Warriors, staring at a little red sachet with a picture of a bed on it, he couldn't help but pick it up curiously. It looked like a bag of tea, or something along those lines. A scrap of parchment had been stitched to the bag's back, thin handwriting spelling out teeny tiny words that he would be able to read if the captain had bothered to teach him more than half of his era's writing system.
A heavy hand landed on his shoulder and he jerked in surprise, dropping the sachet onto the smooth stone floor.
The captain picked it up. "Sorry about that."
Legend, much to his chagrin, couldn't come up with a very good retort off the top of his head, resigning himself to a tired glare.
"So," Warriors began, "is there any reason in particular why you're looking at a sleeping draft?"
Legend snatched the little bag back. "This is for sleep?"
Warriors seemed like he couldn't decided between being confused, amused, or concerned. "It literally says that on the label, vet."
Legend mustered up a proper glare. "I want this."
Warriors raised his hands placatingly. "Alright, alright. I just need to grab some more honey, take it up to the counter and put it with the rest of the order."
Legend grabbed the biggest bag of the sleeping draft as he could. He'd heard of something similar, it was kind of like tea for medicinal purposes, all you had to do was put the powder in some water and you had a sort of potion within minutes. He'd never encountered them personally, though, so he'd kind of just chalked it up to really, really finely ground tea.
But now… now he held the power of sleep in his hands. No more sleepless nights for him if this worked.
The walk back was nice enough. Warriors kept his mouth shut except for occasionally mumbling something to himself about the people on the street he thought were hot, but Legend couldn't find it in himself to care about the captain's (horrible) taste in men with the promise of sleep awaiting him.
And oh boy did he feel good in the morning. That stupid shadow had better watch out.

Foreign muses + Neanderthals
Sorry for not updating the blog in the past month, I have had a new sleeping schedule which has totally confused my muse, I suppose they are suffering from a kind of jet lag and haven’t caught up with me yet?
For the past 7yrs I have been writing primarily between the times of 11pm and 5am and occasionally writing at 1pm to 3pm but for two years my brain has frozen due to events in my life I…
