Part 5 of the Drarry x Hamilton Musical fic no one asked for!

Cast after-parties meant one thing and one thing only to Draco Malfoy: rap battles. Though it was all new to him, he spent all of his free time devouring all of the hip-hop he could get his hands on like a starving man. It took some time before he became comfortable participating in cast battles, but eventually, he earned his role as Aaron Burr on a night just like this one. Needless to say, he cherished these gatherings. Even when he was paired with someone who poked at all of his bruises.

Tonight, it was Seb of course. Perceptive, slutty Seb who of course jabbed at Draco’s sex life and background. The competitive monster in Draco flared, and in this moment, nothing mattered more than getting that mic drop moment and making Seb bow at his lyrical prowess. So when his turn came, he started—

my ode to fandom

2020, the start of a new decade, is ending. 2021, the start of my adulthood, is beginning. I’ve always wanted to do a post about my fandom journey, and I’ve also decided to change my url starting next year: from the old faithful @moonlightmasquerade to a url for my new fandom, @junhaoshua. So before taking such a huge step, this felt like a perfect time to thank all the media that has shaped me as a person throughout my journey of youth.

This is half-chronological, half-remembered. This isn't comprehensive, because it doesn't have to be to be meaningful. It can't list every single fandom that has made its mark on me, because there are too many to count.

This is about many people’s stories, including my own. This is about love and power and growing up and changing. This is about how transformative work can transform lives.

To fandom: this is my ode to you.

To Frozen, the fandom that was my first love: thank you for being the place I discovered fanfic. Thank you for teaching me that it was okay to be myself. For teaching me that my parents could make mistakes when raising me even though they love me. For showing me that villains can be redeemed.

To MLP, the fandom of my early teens and beyond: thank you for being such a big part of my life. Fallout Equestria, making me realise the impact of war and giving me hope that people can heal from the worst, that we can make a difference in the darkness. The Immortal Game, telling me that trauma can be overcome and my fate is in my hands. Hard Reset, teaching me to persevere despite the odds. Turnabout Storm, introducing me to the franchise that would inspire my future career. Freeport Venture, guiding me as I grew into my own person. These are lessons that kept me going throughout the rough years. Thank you for teaching me to write magic systems and epic fight scenes. Thank you for giving me hope that one day, even a shy bookworm like me would find my friends.

To Wicked, the fandom of my tumultuous years: thank you for teaching me that I could be beautiful and loved no matter how I look. For opening my eyes to the cowardice of people. For helping me to understand why injustice can thrive. For telling me that sometimes you lose your best friend but you don't stop loving them. Thank you for preparing me to face all this in real life.

To Star Wars, the fandom I was “born” into: thank you for creating a world that inspires writers. For the trilogies and the beautiful fics that were born from them. For the flaws in canon that made fans want to fix them, and write wonderful stories. Double Agent Vader and the questions of agency and power and justice and the need for righteous indignation. Reylo fics and redemption and atonement and forgiveness. The sequel trilogy stories, too many to count, about finding your family and being your own person and healing from trauma.

To Marvel, the fandom that has brought me comfort for years: thank you for starting a franchise that lasted me throughout my childhood. For the stories of X-Men and being ostracised for being born different. For the ideas of Avengers Tower and the Defenders and Spider-verses and other teams, which may not have been well handled in canon, but which inspired so many stories about dangerous people coming together and being accepted for who they are. For Daredevil and making me decide that yes I’m going to be a lawyer and no my disability will not stop me.

To DC, the fandom I grew up in: thank you for the DCAU that I spent hours watching as a child. Thank you for inspiring so many amazing, creative people to write. Batfamily fics and the stories of well-meaning Dad Bruce who screws up despite his best efforts. Babs Gordon and being a total badass from her wheelchair. bricklaying and its discussion of power and class issues and trauma and identity, a story that I go back to time and time again.

To Hamilton, the fandom that inspired me: thank you for introducing me to the wonderful genre of rap and hip-hop. For helping me to realise that there are villains, there are people who make mistakes, and there are people who exploit others’ mistakes. For awakening a fire and ambition in me that I had long tried to douse to try to fit in and be more likable, and telling me it was okay to be young scrappy and hungry. And for reminding me that the people I love are important, too.

And now, to the grand prizes, to the fandoms that have been the biggest part of my life.

To Harry Potter, the fandom I first participated in: thank you for opening my mind and broadening my horizons. For helping me to move past my conservative upbringing and my prejudices (the thanks is all to the fandom, not to canon). For helping me to find my first fandom family, my best friends @reapersbarge and @a-symphony-in-vellichor. For being full of stories about healing just when I needed it. For Dramione, a ship that would lead to me publishing my very first fanfiction, inspired by the wonderful @colubrina. For Drarry and my second fic that gave me the chance to tell a story with my best friend and the other half of my brain. Without HP, without these friends, I would never have found the courage or inspiration to finally finish and publish my stories.

To Six of Crows, the fandom I grew in: thank you for being my first experience with representation in stories. For opening my eyes to the world of YA novels and so many wonderful, amazing stories. (SoC was literally one of the first YA novels I ever read and I wouldn’t have gotten into bookblr without it). For helping me learn how to work with an ensemble cast of characters that all got a chance to shine. For inspiring me to come back from my long writing hiatus and rediscover the joy of being an author.

To Taylor Swift and Marina, my two favourite solo artists: thank you for music that perfectly fits whatever I’m going through. Thank you for reputation and Electra Heart when I was hurt and angry and trying to build a shield to hide my scars. Thank you for Lover and Froot when I was trying to learn to be happy again, to conceal my hurt with a smile. Thank you for folklore and evermore and Love + Fear when I was finally ready to unbandage my scars and confront everything that I had faced and declare that it did not break me.

To Seventeen, my biggest current fandom: thank you for bringing me joy during this tough year. For always giving me something to look forward to every Monday when the days passed in a blur. For the new friends I’ve met here who welcomed me to caratblr, especially @soonhoonsol, @thekidultlife, @haosvteen, @myunqho, @xuseokgyu and @haoranghae. For reminding me what it feels like to fall deeply into a new fandom for the first time. For the amazing fics and gifs that always bless my dash (there may be another, separate post on that). For awakening my desire to write fic again after a long drought where I couldn’t think of a single thing, and giving me more plot bunnies than I know what to do with. Thank you for being a safe space that helped me to grow and heal and smile again.

To conclude this story:

Throughout my journey, I’ve seen the same threads and themes over and over again. To be my own person and not the person that others moulded me into. To be ambitious and hungry and the hero of my own story. To find my own family, to choose the people I claim as my own. To see injustice and apathy and evil and hopelessness, and to be angry and stand up against it. To believe that people can change, can atone for what they’ve done, can be redeemed. To believe in the power of hope and light against the darkness.

Fandom is a part of my life that I truly can’t imagine being without. It has been the lifebuoy when I was stuck in trauma and unable to escape. The bandage when I was broken and bleeding and despondent. The glue to put me back together when I shattered into a million sharp-edged pieces. The armor when all I wanted to do was rip out my feelings and put up stone walls around myself. The candle that guided me through the night until I was ready to step into the daylight.

For the fandoms of my past: I may have become less active, less involved, but I still return to the songs and stories that have been an integral part of my youth. I see them now with older, wiser eyes, and recognise bits and pieces of my personality that I absorbed from them. I’ve never truly left a fandom; how can you leave something when it’s part of you?

For the fandoms of my present: I want to live in the moment and enjoy my experiences for as long as I can, even if I’ll outgrow them one day. I know that even if I move on from them one day, I’ll always treasure the lessons learnt and the memories made, and they’ll have a special place in my heart no matter what.

I believe in the power of stories, of movies, of music, of fandom. I would not be who I am today without it. Every fandom I’ve been in has left an impression on who I am, made its mark on me, a golden tattoo. I can look at them and trace the way each and every one has shaped me into the person I am today.

And as I hover in the in-between of childhood and adulthood, as I stand now a kidult, I’ll embark on this new phase of life with all the lessons that fandom has taught me, and will continue to teach me for many years to come.

First post! - welcome :)

Hi guys!

I’m Lemon-chan and this is my anonymous writing blog. I don’t have many social media accounts, but I do have my YouTube. I write a lot of different stories; original, fanfiction. My favorite genres are romance, indie, and adventure.

I’m going to be posting writing advice, as well as maybe some vents and normal life blogs and stories. Maybe some fanart and drawings too, or even animations, seeing as I’m trying out Flipaclip. I’m also going to be posting some stories in chapters. I hope you enjoy my blog!

-Warrior Cats

I love reading the Warriors fandom and shipping characters especially! Mothpool is probably my go-to ship, but as a joke I love Jayfeather x Stick, and I will refer to Jayfeather as Jaybae on occasion haha :3

-Harry Potter

I’ve read them all from a young age and am a proud Slytherin! I ship Drarry, Pansmione, and Blairon, and like a touch of Linny.

-Undertale

I don’t write fanfiction, which is a far cry from like, every other fandom lol. But I love laughing at Sans fangirls and am trying to get past the perspective room.

-Miraculous Ladybug

So I never really watch it anymore, but sometimes I read and write fanfiction, and I love the idea of the love square.

I’ve been obsessed with the musical for a year, and draw fanart sometimes. I love the songs and am currently learning Burn on piano. I own the Revolutionary book and have been to see it!

My favorite villain/protag ships

Most of the shit that Thorki shippers get from antis is about the incest, but every once in a while you also get people saying that villain/protagonist ships are inherently abusive, which is just stupid enough to be funny. Here, in addition to my incestuous “frenemies with benefits” primary ship, are some other villain/protag pairs I ship:

Charles Xavier x Erik Lehnsherr (“Cherik”), X-Men movies

Harry Potter x Draco Malfoy (“Drarry”), Harry Potter

Tom Riddle x Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter books. I’m not shitting you, I wrote a (very chaste) fic about this in middle school.

Steve Rogers x Tony Stark (Stevetony, Stony, or Superhusbands), MCU -- which is villain/protag to hear some of the Team Cap people talk about it...

Alexander Hamilton x Aaron Burr, Hamilton the musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Burr the novel by Gore Vidal, and also the biography by Ron Chernow (which I read in high school in 2005, tyvm). (Is there a ship name for this? Hamilburr? That’s awful. Burrmilton? That’s worse.)

Jesus x Judas, Jesus Christ Superstar... and also maybe the Bible. (I’m also having trouble with a ship name for this -- their names are too similar. Jusus is just... no. Chriscariot? That Kiss Was Not Platonic?)

@frnklymrshnkly + @silveredglass tagged me in the music meme and I’m eons late to answering it since it’s been a busy week.

Uhhh my music library is in shambles and I don’t have spotify set up, so this is just shuffle from what’s on my phone at the moment (which isn’t much) lol! If I went with most played it would just be the Hamilton soundtrack an embarrassing number of times hahaha! I also cheated and skipped songs if I didn’t attach a ship to them. I don’t always use music to think of a ship and don’t usually use any kind of playlist when writing, so uhhh I’m sorry I fail really hard at this meme lol! I’m actually inspired to set up shippy spotify playlists for my music now, though!

Sam Palladio] Ship: Wolfstar; Guh, this is Remus introspection thinking about Sirius, telling him how he’s loved him for so long he doesn’t remember what it is to not be in love with Sirius, his dog star that shines brightly, even when he’s broken and beat down. *wibbles* 2. Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae Ship: Romione; This is a sunny afternoon in their first home together dancing around, half dressed, while their tea goes cold and giggling when they misstep and fall out of beat with the music. Just soft, happy romione feels where Ron wants to do everything to make Hermione happy. 3. Jet Pack Blues by Fall Out Boy Ship: Wolfstar; This one gives me feels from @shiftylinguini‘s gorgeous Bound Series where Sirius comes back from beyond the Veil and Remus is torn between his love for Sirius and his commitment to Tonks. 4. Rock ‘n’ Roll Delight by Hugo Ship: Drarry; This is drarry shortly post-war where they’re feeling the pressure from all sides from expectations, they end up in a secret relationship together as their only outlet to be who they really are and get the release they need. 5. Sweetest Cure by Hugo Ship: Drarry; This is drarry where they are resisting each other, even though they both want to be together, “don’t want to be your friend”, questioning what they should do. 6. Second Chances by Gregory Alan Isakov Ship: Drarry and Klance; This is a toss up for me because I can see it working for both ships. For Drarry it’s post-war, healing slowly and learning to connect with each other. For Klance it’s absolutely the bloody knuckles and longing for home lines where they both make a fresh start with each other to keep from going crazy in space. 7. Fourth of July by Fall Out Boy Ship: Klance; More specifically, this is Klance during S4 when Keith leaves to join the BoM and I actually have a fic from Lance’s POV planned that’s inspired by this song about missed opportunities and false starts. 8. Golden Age by Minder Ship: Wolfstar; This is fresh out of Hogwarts wolfstar, finding pockets of sunshine in the midst of wartime (I have a huge thing for wolfstar + plants/gardening) and being unable to hide for long from the reaches of the war. 9. Prosthetic Love by Typhoon Ship: LoVe (Logan x Veronica), Klance, Drarry, Wolfstar, Victuuri; This is basically an ultimate ship song for me. I first found it through the Veronica Mars movie, so it’s a Logan and Veronica song first and foremost, but I feel it can also apply to any intense/deeply emotional ship where there is a magnetic pull of epic proportions where no one else could possibly suffice. 10. Can’t Help Falling in Love (cover) by Hayley Reinhart (originally by Elvis) Ship: Drarry and Victuuri; This song has been a drarry anthem for me since potteresque_ire’s amazing fic Evolution, and was a big part in my own fic Changing Tides. For me this really encompasses their meant-to-be dynamic. All the same also applies to Victuuri for me, in the soft and slow way they fell for each other, intertwined and inseparable. I think a lot of people have already been tagged on this one since I let it sit for so long, so if you’d like to play join in and consider yourself tagged!

Long, pale fingers tapped the paper coffee cup thoughtlessly in a nervous beat. Rosebud lips formed words that Harry couldn’t focus on. Had Malfoy’s lips always been so pink? As pink as the colour that blossomed on his cheeks and the tops of his ears as he grew more flustered—the exact same shade. Pretty.

“Potter? Potter?” The alarm in Malfoy’s voice roused Harry from his shameless admiration.

“Hrrmmm?” he managed.

Malfoy frowned, his lower lip jutting out in an unbidden pout. Harry whimpered.

“Why—" Malfoy looked flummoxed, then melted into sadness as his eyes began to well with tears. “I am not asking for forgiveness. I just wanted you to know how sorry I am, and that I recognize I was the worst—“

“Did you always sing?” Harry interrupted, hoping his question would express how little he cared about their shared past.

“Not in public, no. Father would never allow it. The wizarding world isn’t renowned for its musical achievements either.” Malfoy frowned and that fucking pout appeared again. Harry bit his lip to stifle another whimper.

“So how did you end up in a Muggle musical production of the revolutionary war?”

Malfoy eyed him warily. “Why?”

“It’s just. I would have never guessed that you could sing and rap and— you’re amazing. I never knew. I wish I’d known.” But the war made us into people we wouldn’t have been. I’m glad you became who you are now regardless. You are breathtaking in every way, he didn’t say. “I want to know now.”

The tapping on the cup switched to a different rhythm. A drumroll building anticipating

“Alright.” Malfoy began his tale, his eyes sparkling with mischief and delight, his whole body coming alive and adding colour to the story with waving hands and knees knocking onto the table.

Harry never wanted him to stop. He knew they’d have to talk about the war and the ugliness they’d experienced, but not tonight. They had time. Harry could feel it stretching out before them as the sun began to rise and the streets of New York filled with light and a different kind of bustle.

It felt like a beginning and a continuation. As though Malfoy, Draco, had written himself out of Harry’s narrative, leaving an emptiness Harry didn’t even know was there until Harry wrote him back in. No, this wasn’t Harry’s narrative, this was their story. It had always been their story. Harry understood now, and he’d make Draco understand, too.

A smile grew on Harry’s face. He had time.

Grossest memory: Before i start, let me tell you that I've been changing diapers since i was seven. My mother was the director of a daycare and i would help out. I was well behaved and i needed something to do after school. I know how to change a diaper. Ok so I'm ten years old and i have a nephew now andI'm changing his diaper bc i know how. ... I was shot in the face. Ok and that's not all. I refastened it and waited until he was finished. Cleaned my face. Went back bc he still needed changing. going to do a little promo here actually. if you are like me and enjoy science fiction, illegal racing, motorcycles, poc characters, and lgbtq+ themes, you should totally check out motor crush published by image comics. i just got the first trade today and it’s absolutely spectacular; the story is engaging, the characters are lovable, and the art is to die for. you’ll regret passing this one by at the comic book store
