OKAY.
49 with Bucky 😏
oops I meant to go somewhere else with this but I lost all control and it got sappy idk what happened lol thanks for sending another in, these are fun! ♡
Send me a number and I’ll write a micro story using the word or phrase
49 - Nightfall
"And I brought marshmallows in case you want to roast those over the fire. I would've brought chocolate and graham crackers to make stores but it seemed like too much."
"Sweetheart."
"Maybe next time if Steve and the others come we can do that and bring hot dogs too. I know how the two of you eat."
"Sweetheart, would you sit down?"
You look up from where you're crouched next to the burning fire. Bucky looks exasperated but totally enamored by your excited rambling. You'd been planning this mini camping trip with him for ages, finally able to take a weekend off to spend a night in the woods with your man. Alone.
Living with Bucky meant living with Steve and Sam too and even though you loved them both dearly they were annoying roommates. Not in the sense that they were dirty or messy. Their decades of combined military service kept them in the habit of order and cleanliness.
No, your problem was with their clingyness. They always wanted to do group activities, watch movies together, eat dinner together. You complained to Bucky one night, exasperated and throwing up your hands, that soon they might ask to join the two of you in the bedroom.
So maybe you were a little too excited for your first night alone with Bucky in a long, long time. But the way he looked at you now, patting his thigh and motioning for you to come sit with him, you knew he was excited to.
"Come watch the sunset with me, pretty girl."
You scrambled onto his lap like your ass was on fire and his lap was a bucket of water.
Bucky pulled you closer, holding your legs across his lap and wrapping his arms around you, tight.
"I brought my telescope."
"You did?"
"It's in the back of the truck. Once the sky clears we can take it out. Sound good?"
You wrapped your arms around Bucky's neck and pecked him on his pretty, pink lips.
"Thank you, Bucky."
"It's no big deal, I haven't gotten to use it in a while."
"Not the telescope. For this. For doing this with me."
"Anything for you, pretty girl."
Bucky kisses your forehead, absent-mindedly running his right hand up and down your thigh.
The two of you stay content like that in each other's arms as the sun goes down and night begins to fall. Bucky tosses another log in the fire to keep it burning when the crackling slows and the light dims.
"When we get back home we're looking for our own place."
You giggle into Bucky's neck, fully understanding what he means. The peace and quiet out here is something you'll miss when you pack up and leave.
The skies soon clear, just like the weather reports said they would, and Bucky pulls out his telescope. He delights in the look of awe on your face when you see the bumpy surface of the moon through the wide lens.
"This is amazing."
Bucky stares at you in as much wonder as you do at the stars and prays that he can keep seeing this amazing view for the rest of his life.

WC: 4.7K (Oops!)
It had been a very productive night at The Tender Trap. You were just finishing up another set under the rush of the pink and red neon lights, gathering the falling tips by the bucket load as he walked in.
Looking as forlorn as ever, head hung low, his usually slicked back hair falling in and around his face and what looked to be a bruise forming under his eye.
You knew the look all too well. He ordered a beer at the bar and took his usual seat in the back taking up the entire bench, stretching his legs out still in uniform sans his kevlar and service weapon. For someone who liked to stay low key, he sure didn't know how to act the part.
You watched from the corner of your eye as his eyes trailed over you. Taking your time to slowly retreat into the dressing room, swaying your hips not bothering to cover your bare chest as you go.
You enjoyed making him wait, only making him more anxious and grumpy, all worked up just that way you liked.
As you sat at your small station reapplying your lipstick, one of the other girls walked in throwing a smirk your way.
“Your boy's out there looking for you.” She snickered.
“He's not my boy.” Replying flatly.
“You tell him that?” Laughing out, as you caught her reflection behind you.
No. You didn't have to tell him.
Gator Tillman only came around when he was fighting with his girlfriend though it seemed to be getting more frequent. You knew all the juicy, sorted details.
Finally emerging from the back, he was nursing his beer looking at the stage with his head tilted slightly, showing signs of boredom, thumb nail slowly peeling the label on his bottle.
Spotting you, his back stiffened sitting up a little straighter making your grin grow a little wider as you passed other patrons and ogling men vying for your attention.
His eyes remained steady on the stage as you sauntered over, trying to stay aloof as if he weren't here just to see you, pointedly avoiding your sultry gaze.
“Took you long enough,” he sassed, taking another swig of his beer as you sat down.
“Oh, I'm sorry Tillman. Did I keep you waiting?” Sassing right back. “Didn't even realize you were here.” Clicking your tongue.
“Nah, sweetheart, not at all. Enjoyin’ the view, drinkin’ a beer. What more could a guy ask for?” He grinned into the bottle, still looking away from you.
Your hand glides across the top of the padded bench seat, hand grasping his thigh making him choke on his next swig, quickly pulling the bottle from his lips wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
The glare he sent your way only made you giggle before you spoke.
“What're you in for tonight? Need a chat…” your fingertips tiptoed up the expanse of his thigh, watching as his breath hitched. “Or a little something more?” Licking your lips in anticipation of the inevitable answer.
He pushed your hand away, setting the beer down.
“Can we at least go to the back before ya’ start gettin' all handsy?” He hissed out, finally looking at you.
You scoff, rolling your eyes.
“What’s your problem? Not like your girlfriend or daddy would ever set foot in here.” Getting up as you spoke.
He lightly grabbed your wrist, preventing you from leaving his space.
“Don't. It's just… ya’ know how it is.” Deflecting. His go to before you can get him relaxed.
“No, I don’t know. But,” sighing and melting into his touch. “Come on, you can tell me about it.”
His hand trailed down, gripping yours, letting you pull him up as his large fingers wrap around yours. You'd thought numerous times about how they might feel wrapped around your neck or stuffed inside your greedy cunt.
He held tight, following you into the back, watching the way your ass looked in nothing but the thong you wore, thighs pushed out with the way your tights were digging into the plush of them. He was already hard, anticipation thrumming through him as you led him down the small hall to a private room.
It was a revolving cycle. He'd either fight with his girlfriend or on some occasions, his dad, and come find you. You were a stress relief, a way to blow off steam without any judgment.
Yeah, you might cost him an arm and a leg but you were worth it.
You stopped momentarily, whispering something to the bouncer he couldn't quite discern over the thumping base and loud music this close to the stage. The guy nodded, as you looked back and began to lead him once more, taking him down a hall where the music began to fade.
“Want another beer before we get started?” Calling over your shoulder, an almost predatory toothy grin thrown his way.
“Nah,” answering quickly. It was always the same. He wasn't interested in drinks or waiting any longer.
You enter the very last room at the end of the hall. The same red walls as the club with a small couch situated at the far end and a pole in the middle. The music was filtering in through speakers hung in the corners.
He continued past you making his way over to the couch as you locked the door. Much like in the bar, he took up most of the space. Wide and domineering.
“You never answered me out there. What're you in for tonight?” Taking long, slow strides toward him.
“I don't really wanna talk tonight.” He huffed out, as you stopped short in front of him standing between his legs.
“Someone's really grumpy.” Tilting your head, hands slowly moving up his chest to his shoulders moving your face close to his, nails digging slightly into the leather of his jacket as you trailed small kisses across his jaw.
You pulled back, gripping his chin forcefully making him look up at you.
“That little girlfriend of yours piss you off that bad?” You chuckled, but he found no amusement in your words, moving out of your grasp with a pout. You found him adorable when he was pissed.
“Poor baby,” you tsked. Pushing up and away from him. Giving him a nice sway of your hips as you walked toward the pole, gripping it and spinning back around.
“Now, Gator, how long have we done this little number? Huh? You still trying to play coy?” You began dancing to the rhythm of the music filling the room as he watched you but stayed silent.
“I know when something is bothering you.” You spoke as you continued to dance. He had to adjust himself, cock now straining the constricting fabric of his cargos, almost painfully.
“If you don't tell me now, you know it'll just eat away at you. You can't even have any proper fun.” Dropping to the floor, crawling toward him at an agonizing pace, never taking your eyes off of him.
You slowly sat in between his legs, hands splayed on either side of his thighs so close to his length, he let out a shuttering breath as you began to lightly outline his cock with your fingertip, feeling it kick up beneath your touch.
Your number one rule was that you never fucked a client. No matter what. Each time you saw him, it became harder and harder not to give in. The way he would fall apart for you drove you absolutely crazy. He was pathetic, in all the best ways.
You laid your head on his thigh, looking up at him through your lashes.
“Gator, baby, tell me what's wrong. You'll feel so much better once you get it off your chest.” Your fake pout and doe eyes were too much.
“Fine. Fuck!” He threw his head back, exasperated because this little game you played wouldn't end until you got what you wanted.
“We fought. Again. We… I… broke up with her.” He sighed, unwilling to meet your gaze.
“Oh.” You lifted your head at that, standing to straddle his lap, legs on either side of his. Shifting to accommodate your frame as you sat down, immediately grinding your hips into his.
“Yeah…” coming out all breathy, as he hesitantly placed his hands on your hips.
“Poor baby,” continuing to move your hips across his lap, his cock hard against you with each pass and swirl igniting something within your own core.
“She… she wanted to get married and I didn't. It would have never worked out. She's just so different from… me.” What he had wanted to say was you. In the back of his mind, he knew this little thing between the two of would never really work out either. He was infatuated with the thought of you. Outside of the club he didn't know anything about you.
“That's such a shame.” Your own words coming out a little breathy, leaning close to his ear, lips pressing right under his jaw. You knew you shouldn't but you pressed in further lips sucking lightly, testing his reaction. When a small whimper escaped him, you only sucked harder, leaving a small mark behind.
His cock twitched, hips bucking up as he pressed you further down searching for more friction, blunt fingertips digging into your soft flesh. You had to bite your lower lip, suppressing a moan before it slipped out. It would be too easy to slip him out of his pants and slide down his shaft, feeling your own wetness pooling in your skimpy thongs, sticking to your folds.
Something, if you admitted to yourself, you'd also thought about numerous times. You'd heard the rumors. You'd felt his cock and knew it was big.
“You like that, Gator? Want me to mark you up? Let that little girlfriend and daddy know what you really like? What you've been up to?” You licked his pulse point, debating on sinking your teeth into his bared throat.
“Yeah.” He huffed out.
“Oh, Gator.” You pulled back, taking a hard look into his eyes. Glossed over, pupils taking over his mossy irises, now almost black.
“You'd regret it in the morning. I'm sure she'd see you and cry and you'll apologize and she'll take you back.” You chuckled, pushing off his chest slightly but he had a firm grip on your hips.
“I won't regret it.” He gritted out, nose to nose with you, lips daring to ghost over yours. “Don't you see what you do to me? I'd let you do anything to me.” Bucking his hips again for emphasis.
You'd done this cat and mouse a dozen times, always ending the same. You'd dance for him, grind on his cock all the while letting his hands roam over your hips and thighs, and even that was pushing it while trying to maintain a level of professionalism. But you always made it fun. He could vent while you'd take his mind off of whatever was bothering him, making him cum in his pants and sending him home.
“I know you would.” Taking his hands and shoving them off your waist. “But I have a rule and I'm not about to break it for you.”
Standing and striding back over to the pole, leaving his mouth gaping to stare after you.
“Why not?” He asks earnestly. As you begin to sway with the song, his eyes suddenly drifting down your hips and legs as if mesmerized by the small movements.
“You know I don't fuck clients. Period.” You shrug, turning back to him. “Even if you are a newly single man, if that's even true.”
He tilts his head for a moment, regarding you.
“You don't think I see the way ya’ look for me in the crowd when you're dancin’ up there? Or try to hold back those moans when you're back here alone with me?” He quickly rose, closing the distance between the two of you, suddenly nose to nose with him again.
“Darlin’ I think,” nose nudging yours. “You want me as bad as I want you. Tell me I'm wrong.” Hands finding your sides once more, bringing you flush to him.
Your hands found their way to his chest, to steady yourself, knees almost going weak at his insinuations. Had you been too distracted letting your facade slip? Had he seen right through you? You weren't sure but he seemed to be quickly gaining the upper hand, which simply would not do.
“Gator, baby, I think you're sadly mistaken. I try to make everyone feel like they're the only ones in the room. It's part of the show.” It slightly gnawed at you, watching the way he deflated at your words, lips pouted and eyes down turned, so utterly pathetic when he's sad.
“Go sit on the couch.” Patting his chest as he stepped away, giving yourself a reprieve in the process.
He sighed behind you, plopping back down on the faux leather seat sinking further into the cushion as you wandered back over taking up residency in his lap once more, facing away from him this time.
You swirled your hips, cock pressed hard against your ass.
“Little help?” Looking over your shoulder at him, wiggling your back. His fingers skimmed up, sending a wave of goosebumps across your skin, as he untied your top.
Lifting it above your head, you rose back up, throwing it across the room and turned back around to face him planting your knees on either side of him. Tits now eye level with him but he was looking up at you instead, making your cheeks heat. Why the fuck was he looking at you like that?
You sat back in his lap, hands roaming up the expanse of his clothed abdomen and chest as you leaned back into him, lips grazing his ear as you spoke.
“Okay Gator, maybe I have thought about you and what this big, fat cock could do to my pussy.” Grabbing his bulge for emphasis, squeezing him through his pants as he released a breathy moan.
“So, I-I was right?” You pulled back to look at him, shit eating grin across his face, eyebrow raised in your direction.
“Don't get cocky, or I'll stop this before we even get started.” Quickly shooting back, as he nodded.
“Good boy.” Hands gliding up under his jacket, pushing it off his shoulders, as he helped you pull it off and toss it somewhere across the room. “Now, lay back and relax.”
Some shitty country song was playing but you found your rhythm anyway, grinding against him. His eyes drifted to your breasts, down to where your clothed pussy rubbed against his cock.
“You fucking anybody on the side or was it just virgin Mary?”
He looked a little surprised by your question.
“Just her, but uh, it's been a while.” Sheepishly answering, cheeks suddenly tinged the prettiest shade of pink.
“Ok, good. I don't have any condoms, unless you brought one?” He shook his head. “I'm clean and on the pill. If you still want to do this.”
“Fuck yeah.” He nodded enthusiastically before you grabbed his chin, forcing him to look up at you.
“Undo your belt and pants. I want to see what I'm working with.” He didn't need to be told twice, hands quickly going to work, pulling his pants and boxers down just enough for his cock to spring free, laying between the two of you. He was much bigger than you initially anticipated. Eyes going a little wide with surprise.
He was long, and thick with a ruddy tip, already leaking a pearly bead at the slit. You licked your lips and looked back up to his smug face.
“Ya’ okay darlin’?” Finding a little humor in your sudden stupor.
Quickly flipping your demeanor smirking up at him, devilish glint in your eye as you moved from his lap to the floor settling between his thighs.
“It's a lot bigger than I expected, Gator. I'm not sure you'll fit.” Looking up through your lashes at him, laying it on nice and thick.
“Fuck, y-ya’ don't think so? My gi… my ex always said it hurt too much. Couldn't get more than half before she was cryin’.” You could imagine. His poor little girlfriend didn't realize what she was getting into with him.
You were anything but a good girl, moving closer to his raging erection and pursing your lips letting saliva pool before spitting it onto his shaft.
“Fuck!” He hissed out looking down at you with hooded eyes, as you gingerly wrapped your hand around him letting your thumb swirl at his head collecting his precum before spreading it down his cock and back up.
He squeezed his eyes shut, throwing his head back onto the couch. If he was this far gone from just a touch you weren't sure he would make it to the big finale.
“Eyes on me, big boy.” Squeezing at the base, eliciting his attention as he looked back to you.
“That's it. Couldn't let you miss this.” Saying with a salacious grin before sticking your tongue out to lick from his girthy base all the way up to his tip. The way he whimpered caught you off guard, sending a fresh wave of arousal straight to your already soaked cunt.
Your eyes never left his as you closed your lips around his leaking head, swirling your tongue and humming around the taste of him.
“Mmmm, Gator you taste so good. Did… what's her name ever do this for you?” You asked, it suddenly occurred to you that he'd never said her name out loud.
He shook his head, swallowing thickly, “No. She thought it was too…” trailing off.
“Too what? Dirty?” Kitten licking at his head before finally taking him fully into your mouth, surprising him as his hips bucked up, shoving him further down your throat, making you gag momentarily, before relaxing taking him a little further.
“Oh fuck… shit… that's… goddamn you're a dirty fuckin' girl.” He gritted out, eyes rolling back, all semblance of composure now gone as you began to bob your head, hollowing your cheeks with your hand stroking what your mouth couldn't fit.
“Wait… wait… slow down,” he suddenly huffed out. Trying to catch his breath, as you stilled and pulled off with a slick pop.
“Too much?” Looking back up at him with doe eyes and lips glistening with his arousal.
“Fuck… just fuck me… please?” He sounded pathetic; brow pinched with frustration at his pleading words. “I've thought about this for way too long. I want yo-your pussy.”
“What a needy baby.” Standing back up and planting yourself back on his lap. Just a thin layer of fabric separating the two of you now as you straddled his cock, feeling the heat of him pressed against you.
He leaned in, lips searching for yours, but you pulled back, hands on his chest holding him there.
“No kissing.”
“You'll fuck me raw but draw the line at kissin’?” Confusion flashing across his features.
“Yeah Tillman, I can't have you falling in love with me. This is a one time thing.” You giggled, pulling his hands up and placing them on your breasts as you began to move your hips, dick catching your clit, eliciting a moan from your lips but you didn't hold back this time letting it escape.
“Ya’ sound so pretty. Can I?” You looked back at him as he nodded toward your boobs still held in his hands.
“Can you what? Use your big words.”
“Can I suck your tits? They're so perfect an’ pretty. You're so fuckin' pretty.” Watching the way he kneaded them between his calloused hands as he spoke.
“Go ahead.” He quickly ducked his head, hand trailing to your lower back pressing you further into him as he sucked one of pert nipples into his mouth, swirling his tongue before lightly biting, making you arch into him before he switched to the other side giving it the same attention.
While he was mildly distracted, you took the opportunity to reach down and slide your panties to the side exposing you fully to him, grinding down once more. He popped off, almost breathless looking down between the two of you.
Wasting no time, you raised yourself up, guiding him to your entrance, letting his tip catch slightly looking him in the eye. You both looked a little desperate.
“You sure you want to fuck me, Gator? This dirty, little stripper? You could go back to your girlfriend right now.” The last part came out a little breathy when you sank down a fraction, but it was enough to slightly short circuit your brain.
“Please.” Slipped past his lips so quietly, if you hadn't been looking directly at him you would have missed it.
You watched his eyes roll back, as you began to slide down his aching cock, moans from both of you filled the air. Inch by inch, you took him further than he had imagined anyone could. If you weren't so soaked and horny you knew it would be a stretch for you.
His hands found your waist, grip tight as he dug into your supple flesh as you continued to sink further onto him.
As you neared the base, his girth began splitting you open in the best possible way as you stilled your movements, giving yourself a moment to adjust.
He refused to open his eyes, as good as it felt, he was afraid if he looked at the way your pussy had engulfed him, he'd burst right then and there.
You saw the way he held an almost pained expression. His jaw was slack, breathing heavily, already absolutely wrecked.
Moving your hips back up, removing him almost entirely, cock head staying buried in your tight heat, you swirled your hips slightly before working back down.
“Oh my God! Fuck!” He all but cried out, whimpering when you took him a little deeper this time, halting when his cock all but nudged at your cervix.
“Fuck! You're so deep!” You moaned out, grabbing his hand, pressing it to your lower abdomen. “Bet you can feel yourself in there? Huh?”
“Jesus Christ!” He hissed, finally looking down to where the two of you connected.
“No, just me, Gator.” You laughed, pushing his hand away, as you started bouncing lightly at first. His cock massaging your inner walls with each delicious up and down motion.
The way your walls were sucking him in, constricting around him with each pass he wasn't going to last long. Luckily, neither were you. You'd worked both of yourselves up into a fevered frenzy, ready to combust.
His cock was brushing that spot deep within you as you slowed down your movements. Grinding more than a bounce, the patch of hair at the base of his cock catching your clit with each pass igniting that spark in your lower belly. You closed your eyes, letting the feeling take over.
“You want me to cum all over your cock?” You rushed out, hand snaking up, pulling at the locks at the back of his head.
“Yes! Oh, fuck!” He whined out, not sure where his eyes should land, switching between your blissed out face, bouncing tits and back to where your pussy was staking claim to his dick. He was ruined.
Your moans grew louder as you neared your impending release, no longer able to stifle them as you continued to ride him.
His grip on you getting harsher with each passing second, sure to leave finger shaped bruises behind as he grew more desperate.
You felt that white hot heat pooling in your lower belly, as his cock continued to prod up against that spot along your frontal wall that made you see stars. You worked your pelvis a little more back and forth, feeling it again and again with each grind.
“Ahhh! Fuck! Gator, I'm… I'm…” You couldn't get the words out before you started to come undone. Your cunt clamped down around him, practically strangling his cock as he held tight to you, holding your hips steady as he began to fuck up into your tight heat, working you through your release and chasing his own.
Your fingernails dug into his shoulders, as you continued to moan and writhe atop him, trying not to collapse, as he used you like his own personal fuck toy.
A few more sloppy thrusts and he pulled you down on him, crying out as he practically impaled you on his length. He felt his balls tighten while letting out a guttural moan as his release spilled into your tight channel, a few more weak thrusts and he dropped his hands.
Too spent, you didn't move right away as you both sat there, chests heaving, trying to catch your breath.
“Shit,” you growled, knocking you both from a peaceful afterglow. You were seven minutes over his time and lucky that no one had started looking for you yet.
You peeled yourself away from him, hissing as he slipped out of you and pulled your thong back into place.
“Why the rush darlin’?” He asked, adjusting himself back into his pants and sitting up.
“You're over your paid time with me, Gator. This isn't a fucking hangout. Let's go.” Finding his jacket on the floor and tossing it directly at his chest as you pulled your top back on.
You reached for the handle once he had straightened himself up, throwing his jacket back over his shoulders.
“Hey, wait.” He called out before you turned the knob. “You goin’ back to work?”
“After that?” You snorted at the absurdity of it. If you didn't get to the dressing room, he'd be dripping down your leg. “Hell no, I've made enough tonight. I'm going home.”
“Yeah, that's good.” Nodding his head. “Ya’ need a ride?” Looking at you a little hopeful after what had just transpired.
“Gator Tillman, such a gentleman?” You chuckled. “Look, we don't have to do this. It was just sex, that you practically paid for. I'm not your girlfriend, I'm just a good time.” You winked at him, turning the handle but before you could open the door, he was behind you, arm outstretched above your head, palm pressed heavy into the wood.
You looked back at him, wondering if you'd suddenly said something wrong but that shit eating grin was back as he looked down his nose at you, eyes full of mischief.
“Thought I'd try to be nice, instead of just suggestin’ I could take you somewhere and bend you over the bed of my truck. But ya’ don't seem to like nice.” His words traveling straight to your core.
“Good to see that cocky demeanor is still intact, Tillman, but I told you this was a one time thing.” You smirked, pushing at his chest enough to get the door open and slip out, leaving him a little stunned. He watched you disappear down the hall, sighing as he made his way back to the front to pay the rest of his tab.
Once you made it to the dressing room you didn't bother cleaning up, pulling off your tights and throwing on some shorts and a tank top while haphazardly tossing your belongings back into your bag as you quickly exited the back.
You knew you'd fucked up. That lovesick look in his eye told you everything. You could eat this man alive, and he would smile while letting you. All without knowing your real name.
But it's just a little fun, right? What's a little more? You'd already broken your first rule, why not make the most of it?
Pleased to see you'd made it outside first, you propped yourself up against the wall close to the alley and lit a cigarette watching the front.
He finally stepped out, keys in his hand walking over to his truck. When he turned his back, that's when you finally spoke.
“Hey, Tillman!” He quickly turned; eyes wide as you strode up to him. “You still offering that ride?”

Tumblr media
Events, galas, award ceremonies. You weren't a popular actress nor a famous singer, or social media influencer. You had a simple 9-5 job that would hardly ever get you into these events. But regardless of your status in society, you were known and not because of any talent you possessed that could have made you famous, but because your best friend was none-other than Tom Hiddleston.
You have been friends for years, you adored everything about the man. He was sweet and kind, always polite, but just as playful. It was a friendship you felt lucky to be in, a friendship that you held so close to your heart, it would have broken every little piece of you if it ever ended. Often, you found yourself staring at him with a little smile in the corner of your lips, watching his every move, the way he joked around with his co-stars on set, the way he exercised in the gym for a role, the way he winked at you with a mischievous smile as he caught your eyes on him.
"Do you need my autograph?" he asked with a wide grin as he opened the door of the luxurious car he booked for the event. Once again you have forgotten your eyes on him— his dashing looks, the perfectly fitted suit, the playful twinkle in his eyes. He never stopped teasing you about it.
"Shove off, Tom," you nudged him as he got out of the car and held out a hand for you, waiting for you to accept his help. So, you did. Wrapping your fingers around his hand, you let him help you out of the vehicle as you rearranged your stunning dress and ran your hand down its length to remove any creasing. Cameras were flashing, reporters' loud voices filled the pathway to the entrance, a long red carpet leading your way inside the building towering over you like a modern castle.
"If I didn't know better, I would think your interest in me goes beyond friendship," he chuckled as he held his arm out to you, waiting for yours to be placed over his, his eyes following every little movement of yours. A sudden rush of heat travelled up to your cheeks, your breathing slightly laboured as you tried to calm your heavily beating heart. He was not wrong after all. It's been years since you have been harbouring these feelings, but you hadn't had the heart to confess them. Tom was more important to you than to ruin it over some silly feelings.
Sometimes, when you caught Tom's eyes on you, watching you intently, a soft smile spread across his face, it made you think if maybe, just maybe he was harbouring similar feelings towards you. But the idea was quickly swept away by your doubts, the thought of such an amazing man falling for you seeming impossible. You knew your worth, you didn't write yourself down, but Tom has always been perfect in your eyes, and you couldn't imagine him wanting you even if at times a certain silly part of your brain whispered otherwise.
"I love your healthy self-confidence," you finally gathered your ability to be able to reply, earning a comical huff from him. You have been trying hard, to deny your romantic interest in him, but rumours about the two of you have become a reoccurring news and it didn't help your case to shove your feelings in the back of your mind.
"Ready?" He asked as his gaze turned towards the red carpet. Heaving a heavy sigh, you nodded and murmured a 'yes' as a response.
As soon as the cameras started flashing, hundreds of photos of Tom and you being taken, you conjured a sweet little smile that the tabloids loved. You were always nervous when it came to these events. It was Tom's job to answer some of the questions journalists asked of him, which meant they were to ask about your relationship. It was becoming repetitive, making you feel uncomfortable. The questions themselves didn't bother you but repeating over and over again that the man you have fallen for is merely a friend, felt like a stab in your heart, each time you responded.
"Tom! Tom!" One of the reporters shouted his name and he led you to the side of the red carpet, halting right beside the metal cordons. Questions were flying around, photos had been taken, but you didn't concentrate. Your senses were heightened as Tom pulled you in his side, his arm now wrapped around your waist, gently, but firmly holding onto you. Looking up at him, you studied his face, his ice-blue eyes focusing on the reporter, an excited smile across his face. He seemed so relaxed, so collected, meanwhile even events after events you were still nervous. As though he could feel it, he turned to you with a soft, reassuring smile, giving you a nod, silently asking if you were alright. For others, the movement could have easily been missed, but to you, it was like an earthquake, shaking your heart, making you fall even deeper for him. In a reply, you nodded and offered him a smile as you squeezed his hand that rested on your waist.
"So, Tom, this might be a bit more personal, but everyone has been talking about the two of you," he started, and your eyes immediately darted towards the man. You knew the question, heard it a thousand times already, so you prepared your heart to give the same reply as always. 'We are just friends,' you repeated time after time, hoping they would finally understand and let you be, but they didn't seem to budge. "You have been friends for a long time, and your fans have been talking about how close the two of you have become. Do you think, maybe in the future, there's a possibility for romance to blossom?" He asked with an expectant expression, a sly smile in the corner of his lips.
"As we have said before," you spoke up, ready to reply as you always did, "we—"
"You never know what the future holds for you, there are many possibilities" Tom cut in with a mischievous smile, your eyes growing wide as you looked up at him. Tom chuckled at your expression as he leaned down and kissed the top of your head. "Tell me I'm wrong," he arched a brow questioningly, his words starting your heart off at a faster pace, your cheeks feeling warmer under his intent gaze, those blue eyes you often found yourself lost in.
"Well—, I mean I can't argue with that statement," you replied, feeling slightly awkward. A confused smile started growing wider on your face as Tom led you away. "Why did you do that?" You asked as you finally stepped inside the building, his arm still resting around your waist as you headed towards a large room filled with all sorts of foods and drinks, people dancing in the middle, the dim lightning offering a rather intimate mood. "You just created even more gossip," you scolded him, but seemingly he didn't mind. He led you to a table where his name was printed on a nametag and pulled the chair out for you before he took his seat beside you.
"I didn't say anything," he smiled at you as innocently as he could manage, the corner of his eyes crinkling.
"You did. Exactly because you were so secretive, people will want to read between the lines. They will think there's more to us than friendship," you huffed as you hid your face in your palm and heaved a heavy sigh.
"And is that so bad?" He frowned, earning the same expression from you.
"What?" A silent scoff left your lungs. "What are you trying to say?"
"Is that such a big problem if people think we are together?" He asked, his confident tone stunning you.
"Of course, not. I don't care what rumours are being spread about me, but I don't want them to gossip about you," you reached for his hand on the table and wrapped your fingers around it, giving it a gentle squeeze. His expression stayed emotionless; you couldn't read him entirely, but you knew he seemed off.
"I will go grab us a drink," he said as he stood up, leaving you frowning. You weren't sure what you said that made him upset, and regardless of trying to put on a straight face, you knew he wasn't happy with your response.
You watched as he walked over to a small table filled with the most delicious looking cakes and a couple of bottles of champagne, ready for the guests before they brought out the main course. Tom grabbed a battle of champagne and two glasses, filling up both halfway, before he placed the battle back into an ice bucket.
"What is it?" You asked as he returned and gave you one of the glasses.
"What do you mean?" He asked, taking a seat beside you.
"We've known each other for quite a long time. I can read you like an open book. What's bothering you?" Trying to get him to open up, you shuffled closer to him, your chair scraping the floor, turning heads in your direction. "Oops," you scratched the back of your neck awkwardly, earning a chuckle from Tom.
"Very subtle," he mocked you.
"Don't change the subject Mr. Hiddleston," you raised a questioning brow, a tiny smile hidden in the corner of your lips.
"Nothing is bothering me," he added, but your suspicious gaze didn't falter. "I'm being honest, darling," the sly little fox knew his nickname for you would make you soften up and he used every opportunity to say it when he felt cornered.
"Fine," you squinted. "But we aren't done! I'm not blind, I can see something is on your mind."
"Yes, ma'am, I can't wait for this conversation to come back around," he mocked you once again, making you huff as you gently punched his shoulder.
Throughout the night, said conversation was forgotten, the alcohol consumption rose, the amount of people dancing around the room grew, meanwhile others sat at their tables, trying to digest the previously served delicious meals. You couldn't deny that you had a good laugh with Tom and his co-stars from all sorts of movies he had been in. It felt like a little family, people coming together to just have a joyous time.
The way Tom smiled at his friends, praising each other, before turning to mock one another forced your eyes to rest on his excited features. He looked so alive, so happy and the feeling of the man you loved being in his element meant everything to you. Tom was radiating enthusiasm and you couldn't look away as you watched his ever-growing smile, his nose scrunched up at an unexpected subject, his head falling back as a loud laughter erupted from his lungs. He was always handsome, but when he was happy, it filled you up with a certain warmth that you couldn't explain. Like you always wanted to make him happy just to be able to see that cheerful smile spread across his face.
He turned to you, catching your gaze on him once again. His arm sneaked behind you, pulling you closer and leaning down to your ear. "You are staring at me again," you couldn't see it, but you could feel his smile spreading wider.
"I like to see you happy," you shrugged with a soft smile as you leaned back to be able to meet his gaze. His smile faltered, but his eyes softened.
"Dance with me," he said as he offered his palm to you, and you placed your hand in it.
"I take no responsibility for broken toes," you said with a silent chuckle as you followed him to the dancefloor.
"Don't worry, darling, it's worth the injury," he mirrored your expression as you stopped in the middle of the dance floor. A slow, romantic song started playing in the background, his arms finding their perfect position around your waist as yours sneaked around his neck.
It was a slow and peaceful dance, not requiring much knowledge and talent. You just enjoyed each other's presence, gazes meeting, smiles forming, swaying to the slow rhythm of the music. You didn't speak a word, but the silence wasn't uncomfortable. It never was with Tom. A soft smile, a quick glance, a simple gesture meant more than thousands of words when you were with him.
You laid your head against his chest, listening to his fast heartbeat, taking on a quicker pace just like yours did. "I miss you when you are not with me," he spoke for the first time as he leaned down and kissed the top of your head. You didn't move away; his embrace was too comfortable, and you couldn't care about people watching you.
"I always miss you. You are the one travelling all the time after all," you chuckled lightly, not wanting to ruin the moment.
"I could be only a mile away and I would still miss you," he replied as you pulled back a bit to meet his soft gaze, but there was no smile present across his handsome face. As the song finished, you found yourself standing in front of him, slightly confused about the conversation. "Do you want to go to the balcony? Have some fresh air?" He asked, taking on a more cheerful expression, but you knew him more than to believe it was genuine. In a response you nodded and linked your arm with his.
Following him through the sea of people, you finally arrived at the balcony, looking down to a smaller version of a park, a water fountain standing tall in its centre. You leaned against the rail as you watched the trees battling the silent wind, fallen leaves being blown across the walking path. Tom joined beside you, his eyes following the same direction as you did before they halted on your face. "You are being strange tonight," you spoke up, feeling his gaze resting on you before you turned to him, meeting his eyes.
"I'm just thinking," he added with a half-hearted smile.
"About?" You asked as you reached for his hand resting on the rail and placed yours on top of his. He turned his palm upside down and lifted your hand, hinting a small kiss on your knuckles as he heaved a heavy sigh. "Tom talk to me," you squeezed his fingers reassuringly, his eyes watching you, not leaving your gaze for a moment. "You have been rather quiet around me," you added.
His whole body turned to you, as though he was focusing his complete attention on you. Reaching towards you, he brushed your hair to the side, gently tucking it behind your ear. You leaned into the touch involuntarily, only realising your actions when he caressed your cheek with his thumb, before moving down and running it across your lips. The feeling burnt you, starting your mind off in a very dangerous territory, one that you have been avoiding. 'He is your friend' you tried to remind yourself. But once the tip of his thumb brushed along your lips once again, you couldn't stop yourself. Stepping forward, you placed your hands on his chest, steading yourself and rose on your tiptoes, pressing your lips against his.
Your own bravery surprised you, but Tom didn't seem affected. As soon as your lips met, his arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer. He didn't hesitate, he wasn't surprised. He just held you, gently running his lips along yours, tilting his head to deepen the kiss. But as much as you wanted to enjoy the moment, realisation hit you. You were kissing your best friend. You gently pushed him away, stumbling back from the force, covering your mouth with your palm. "I'm so sorry," you breathed, panic rising in your chest. "I have no idea what happened, I don't know why I did that, I'm so sorry," your words were rushed, your heartbeat loudly pulsing in your ears.
But Tom's gaze twinkled. A soft, warm smile grew wider across his face as he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around you. "I'm not," he said as he pressed his forehead against yours. "I've been wanting to kiss you," he breathed as he closed his eyes momentarily, slightly shaking his head. "I've been wanting to tell you how much I love you; I've been trying to gain the courage to say it out loud," he scoffed. "I'm a fool for dragging it out for so long, but I love you," his voice shook as he said the words, but his arms tightened around you, safely holding you against his chest. It took you a second to understand what he meant, that your feelings weren't unrequited, that he has been harbouring the same feelings you have.
A heavy sigh left your lungs, as though a weight fell off your chest. Your lips curved into a smile as you placed your hands on his cheeks, running the tip of your thumbs across his jawline. He mirrored your expression whilst leaning into your touch, planting a small kiss on your palm. "I love you too," you replied finally," the words rolling off the tip of your tongue easier than you expected. "I love you so much," you giggled, wanting to repeat the words over and over again, until you finally understood that it was real, that you weren't dreaming. "You never know what the future holds for you, huh?" You asked, repeating his words from earlier in the evening, earning a loud chuckle from him. "So, is this one of those many possibilities?" you raised a single brow.
"Could be. I have a couple more ideas," he said, his soft smile turning into a confident grin.
"You are terrible," you gently hit his chest as you grabbed his suit-jacket and pulled him down to you, meeting his lips halfway, smiling into the intimate moment you have been craving for so long.

fight with jinyoung / makeup sex
Tumblr media
warnings; 19+ content, suggestive scenes
“so what now?” you questioned, almost scared to hear his response. “or do you do not care? once again.”
jinyoung sucked in a sharp breath. this was already your second quarrel this week over his alleged disregard for your feelings. this time, he stood you up after promising dinner. given his profession, you weren’t hysteric about the act of being stood up, but rather, what was done afterwards.
jinyoung would usually call say when he wouldn’t be able to make it, this time without. as if he wanted to pile things on, he came to your apartment without a word of what happened, not even bothering to apologize.
this struck you hard.
since the day you’d fallen for jinyoung, he never hesitated to put you on a pedastool and treat you with the utmost respect. even in front of the members, his love for you was on display.
but now, it was hard to see yourself come first to him, or even second. you felt like an afterthought.
“i do care. you should know that out of anyone.” jinyoung leaned against the counter, deciding to keep his distance.
“do you really or is that what you want me to hear? i know how this works.” you shot back, swallowing the lump forming in your throat. “if you cared i wouldn’t feel like this.”
jinyoung scrunched his nose. “so what do i do from there? you never let me know how you’re feeling, what could i even do?”
“i don’t know maybe act like you give a fuck for once? you treat me like im annoying, like im a problem.” you retorted, surprised at yourself for swearing at him.
“well if you feel like you’re the problem maybe you are.”
as short as that statement was, it hit you like a block of cement.
“oh?” you step back a lttile. nodding your head, you grabbed your small tote that was neatly packed by the door. “alright then.”
before he could even correct his mistake, you were hauling out of the door letting free with any tears that decided to come down.
two days later
two days felt like a week and you had found the need to pick up a hobby in an effort to clear your mind of jinyoung. you didn’t know for sure that this was a breakup. your friends had already tried to assure you that the separation should have been enough to solidify any lingering thoughts about your relationship status.
but still, you couldn’t wipe him from your brain. how he used to gently rub the back of your head, thumb grazing over your ear when you spoke. how he used to take all of you in his arms when you cried. it felt like a bucket of bricks had been thrown at you when you realized how all of this simply just stopped one day.
tears welling up, you pulled your knees to your lap, cradling them.
you sat in front of an empty canvas on the floor. it was a sorrowful attempt at painting, you’d only gotten a small sketch started. an outstretched hand stared back at you, lacking any color or life.
two knocks at the door.
that was all it took for you to suck up the stray tears that had fell from your eyes.
making your way to the door, you stilled anxious for what was waiting for you behind the door.
"y/n? you're here right?" jinyoung called out from the other side. you felt a heavy knock against the tight door, which you presumed to be his head.
“love, let’s talk.” the desperation in his throat gave life to his words and soon it was enough for you to turn the knob.
opening the door felt heavier than the space you’d given each other and your emotions flooded over until your eyes welled again. plump breast heaving up and down, you sniffed away the salty tears before they took control.
tilting your head, you stared back at the man you’d fallen in love with. although his his hair was slightly disheveled, you could only guess that was from his head hitting the door. jinyoung had looked the same as he did any day, this time a bouquet of sunflowers to show.
what would you say to him? what would he think of you now? your appearance certainly wasn’t the one he had given gentle ‘i love you’s to every night. your button up top was covered in paint, jeans to match; this was definitely not the best time.
“y/n, can i come in?” jinyoung rocked on his heels back and forth while you scanned his physique.
nodding, you turned in the opposite direction motioning him to follow you.
you hastily gathered your painting materials. you could feel jinyoung’s eyes on the back of your head, sharp enough to read your thoughts.
dusting off what remained on your lap, you took a seat far enough from jinyoung to calm your nerves but close enough to read his facial expressions.
“so i assume you came here for a reason other than lounging on my couch?” your eyes dulled a little, waiting for a response.
even though your tone reeked of anger, he chuckled, almost as if he was happy you spoke to him that way. “im here because you’re still my girlfriend. and i-”
“you love me? we haven’t spoken in two days. what would you call that?”
jinyoung parted his lips slightly, giving you a stressed look that you hadn’t seen since early when you had started dating. “i didn’t come here to argue with you, i really wanna talk you. if you want me to leave ill go, but at least listen to me. please.”
he had a a way with words. maybe it was the way he spoke. the way he was just loud enough for you to hear and gentle enough to coax you into forgetting why you were ever mad in the first place.
and while the cold silence gave little room for speech, you could feel yourself growing needier for jinyoung. as if his heat could make the shattered halves of you feel whole again.
it was more than the way he looked at you, only a few inches taller. his perversion over your mind left you wondering if it was the way he’d grab you in moments like this, kissing you ever so softly.
breathing into him, you reached for jinyoung’s face, letting your body crumble into his arms. whereever you could put your arms, you were taking hold of.
walking backwards, your backside met the rigid wall. you let a moan fall into your throat while your tongues glided against eachother.
jinyoung’s hands were big, big enough to keep a hand teasing your waist and a hand guiding your chin. he pressed himself against your middle, earning a small moan in return.
pulling back to breathe, jinyoung took in all of you, examining features he hadn’t seen in what felt like years.
before he could dive back in, you put both palms on his chest.
“not here.” you stifled out, grabbing him and making your way into your bedroom.
jinyoung didn’t delay one bit, shifting his weight on yours, pressed against the mattress. with the way he rubbed himself on you, you were sure that if he kept going you could reach an orgasm just like that.
instead he pulled away, snatching your bottoms off rather hastily. your middle was throbbing, begging for any kind of physical touch.
despite this, you still flinched when jinyoung entered you. he had you on the edge of the bed, teasing you with his member.
slowly, he would push all the way into you, just to back completely out. this was madness, this pace he was at. not a word was spoken between the two of you except for sharp curses and shallow moans.
gripping his arms, you leaned your head back in pure bliss. before you could even look back at him, jinyoung sped his pace up, skin slapping as a mixture to the collection of sounds.
his movements coerced an even deeper moan, curling from the back of your throat.
“feels good baby?” jinyoung questioned. you nodded obidiently, your orgasm creeping close.
sucking in a sharp breath, you bit down on your bottom lip. “jinyoung, baby, im gonna come.”
“come then.”
those two words were enough for you to completely fall apart all over him.
feeling your inner sqeeze around him, jinyoung couldn’t hold out for much longer. with one hand around your throat, he used the other to pull out and paint your torso with his fluid.
your bodies were still hot and shivering when he leaned down to kiss you. this time, neither of you wanted to pull away.
thumbing the semen that lie on your belly, jinyoung stared down at you.
“why cant i let you go?”

There was something about being from the Cut that you took tremendous pride from. It might have been from the fact that everyone that you associated yourself with weren’t just friends, they were family. Your neighbour had your back, and you had theirs through thick or thin. Or maybe it was the fact that you were the working class, everything that you owned, you worked for it. Nothing was handed to you on a silver platter.
There was no doubt that the residents of Figure Eight held even more pride than you ever would. They loved to gloat their belongings and they made sure you knew where you were from, despite taking pleasure from where you live. That was something that didn’t sit right with the Kooks that came to bother you, no matter how much they belittle you, you always came out on top and just smiled at them. You never let them get under your skin, they weren’t worth it.
The Kooks and Pogues were living completely different lives on the same island. For the rich, fun was being rude to other people, sniffling their weight in drugs and partying in the most expensive mansions. Pogue life was much more simply; you were grateful and appreciative for being around people you loved, the parties you attended weren’t the most luxurious but they were fun - you could be on the beach, on a lake, in some abandoned site but they were always the best times.
There was no way Kooks and Pogues were compatible in the slightest. That was something you always believed in. That was until two months ago. The day you met him, you knew you had fallen head over heels in love with him. A Kook. Someone that went out of their way to try damper your spirits. The worst part of this all was that it wasn’t just any kook. The Kook of all Kooks. The Kook Prince. Rafe Cameron.
“Milo, I’ll see you tomorrow. Bright and early!” You yelled over the sound of the bustle in the kitchen that you worked in. The older man, your boss, tossed you a wave as you bid goodbye to him. Clocking out was your favourite thing to do, it was meant to be five in the afternoon but you opted to stay late to help your colleagues out as they were short staffed. So four hours later, you were finally walking out the back door of the country club you worked at.
There were very few cars left in the parking lot, only the night staff and remaining day staffs were left. Flicking your keys around your fingers, you gazed out over the golf course that surrounded you. It was dark outside, the winter slowing setting in on the island. You threw your bag in the backseat, slamming the door shut.
The humming sound of someone crying caught your attention before you got into the front seat. Glancing around the darkness, it was hard to see anything but curiosity got the better of you. Was it curiousity or the kindness that made you slowly walk towards the golf course?
“Hello?” You called out, but was met with silence. “The golf course is closed, it’s... dark?” You don’t know why you felt the need to try explain why no one should be playing golf at this time.
The shuffling of feet caught your attention and you jumped around to where it sounded from. Finally, you could make out a figure standing tall a couple of feet in front of you. If the person took one step closer, you’d be able to make who it was out. The person was a man, standing over six foot tall and you could tell he was carrying a box of beer.
“I-I’m sorry, sir.” You frowned, stepping closer to him. “There’s no drinking on the course, would you like me to escort you back to the bar?” When you got closer to him, your face distorted in a look of shock seeing Rafe Cameron standing there, shoulders hunched over and his eyes puffed and raw.
Rafe took a step forward causing you to take a step back. You knew that he noticed, he exhaled in annoyance. His usually gelled back hair was hanging loosely over his face. His usual outfit of polo shirt and khakis were replaced by a plain white t-shirt and red cotton shorts. “Look, I don’t want no trouble.”
“Rafe, you know as well as I do that there’s no drinking out here.” You wouldn’t say that you were afraid of Rafe, more so scared by the fact that he could get you fired with one simple text.
His jaw tensed, and you wanted to kick yourself when you found yourself staring at his evident jaw line. There was no doubt that Rafe was handsome, he could click his fingers and a girl would come crawling over to him. You never got the pleasure of being that girl, not that it was on top of your bucket list but your hormonal brain could appreciate the beauty that stood in front of you.
“Just pretend you didn’t see me.” Rafe muttered, walking past you to go deeper into the course. You caught scent of his aftershave when he went by and you had to stop yourself from dropping to your knees at the delicious smell.
“Rafe-”
“For fuck sake, Pogue. Just leave me alone.” He begged, it wasn’t the same tone that you were used to. Usually, there would be annoyance, anger, distaste but it was as if he was pleading you to turn a blind eye. As if he was on the edge of bursting into tears at any moment. When he looked back at you, he noticed the falter in your expression and he grimaced. “Sorry, I-I’m just having a bad day.”
Looking at him confused, you knew there was something serious wrong. “This way.” You nodded your head in the direction of the trees that surrounding the golf course, you started to walk in the direction and from the sound of footsteps behind you, you knew he wasn’t going to protest. You led him to an area in the midst of the trees that you’d come to on your break - you stole some garden furniture from the club to decorate it. There were two wooden chairs, facing the depth of the woods, with a table in between them. A glass ashtray lay on top of it, with a cooler sitting by the legs. It was simple but it was far away from the club and course that you wouldn’t be bothered by Kooks while on your break.
Taking a seat on your usual chair, you tapped the armrest of the other one for Rafe to sit down. He was hesitant at first, scanning the area before he sighed and took a seat. He reached down to grab two beers, handing you one in silence. You accepted, muttering a quiet thank you.
Minutes passed by in silence, the tension growing as you swallowed the bitter liquid. You were surprised when it was Rafe that broke the tranquility first. “Why didn’t you leave?”
Instead of looking at him, you kept your eyes trained on the dark forest in front of you. “You never apologise for being rude, so when you did, I knew you must have been having a real bad day.”
“And why do you care?”
“I never like being alone on a bad day, no matter how much I try to push people away. I always feel better when I’m with someone.” You looked at him, forcing a small smile in his direction which he ignored but his eyes were trained on you. “Plus, I knew I’d get some free beer.” Your heart clenched at the sound of his chuckle, watching him shake his head in amusement.
“Consider that your only free beer from me.” He responded, avoiding the first part of your conversation.
You tapped the cooler, smirking at him. “I’ve plenty of more here.”
Rafe rolled his eyes, gulping back his drink and your eyes watched his Adam’s apple move with the action. Biting the inside of your cheek, you tried to ignore the butterflies in your stomach and the growing heat between your legs. “Why aren’t you with the other Kooks?” You asked, twisting in your seat so that you were facing him fully now.
“Does it matter?” He snapping, and it was your turn to roll your eyes.
“You can drop this act now, Cameron. It’s just me and you here, no one is going to praise you for being a dick to a Pogue.”
“You may think it’s an act, but it’s not. I can’t stand being near Pogues.” Rafe hissed, tossing his empty beer bottles in the makeshift bin and reached for another, popping the lid open.
You scoffed in response causing him to look at you curious. “You seem to have no problem sitting here with me.”
“I didn’t really have a choice, it was either drink here or get kicked off the course.”
“Great.” You muttered, dropping your bottle in the bin and standing up, cleaning your shorts of any dirt. “Enjoy getting hammered alone then.” You weren’t in the mood to play up to his act, it was late and you were getting exhausted from working twelve hours before this encounter.
Rafe watched you walk away, nibbling his bottom lip before he exhaled and called your name. “Stay please...”
“Why? For you to be a complete dick to me all night?” You snapped, turning to face him and crossing your arms in front of you.
Rafe leaned up, reaching to grab your arms and pulling you towards him without a protest coming from your lips. “I’ll stop being a dick. Honestly, you’re not bad company at all.”
Thinking back to that night always brought butterflies to your stomach. Nothing happened, sexually that is but a deeper connection was created. You thought it would be a one night thing, but as the weeks passed, Rafe kept showing up to the country club just as you were finishing and he’d lead you to the area that you made your own. Filling it with fairy lights and blankets for when it was getting cooler.
“Earth to Y/N...” Your friend, Kiara, waved her hand in front of your face. You were walking through the town, window shopping on a Sunday afternoon but your mind was elsewhere. You’ve been friends with Kiara ever since she entered the Pogue life, she was fun to be with but you kept finding your mind on the chair beside Rafe, laughing at something he’d said or just staring at the trees in front of you.
“Sorry, Kie. What were you saying?” You hummed, looking at the brunette.
“JB is having a kegger tonight, you in?” You were never one to miss keggers but recently, you have been busy with Rafe on the nights that they were held. You’ve told your friends that you were busy working which wasn’t entirely a lie. But you knew you wouldn’t be able to not go tonight, they’d be too suspicious if you ditched them again.
“‘Course, I’ll be there.” Delving into a conversation about something that happened in the Wreck, you were laughing at something Kie said when your eyes wandered up to see Rafe and his gang walking in the direction of you and Kiara.
“Oh great...” Kie sighed, lifting her shoulders to look more intimidating and you chuckled. “Wonder what witty comment their knuckle heads can come up with.” It felt like slow motion when Rafe got closer to you, you were expecting some kind of comment but were left surprised when his shoulder grazed yours in silence. When you looked over your shoulder, he looked back as well and sent you a wink. You bit your bottom lip, trying to suppress the grin that wanted to burst onto your face. “What the fuck?” Kie muttered.
“Maybe they just went feeling it..” You hummed, suddenly feeling giddy.
As much as you loved The Boneyard, you couldn’t say you preferred it over spending time with Rafe. The beach was crowded with different groups of people, you were snuggled into a crowd of Pogues that you grew up with. You were laughing and joking with them but your eyes kept scanning the crowd in case a certain someone would appear.
It was nearing one in the morning, the crowd started to disperse and you were lounging on a log with Pope. You’ve been friends with Pope for as long as you could remember, you grew up together and your families got along so you were destined to be best friends in your teenage years. You were lying on the log with your head resting on Pope’s thighs, he was slowly running his fingers through your roots absentmindedly.
“Where have you been sneaking off to lately?” Pope questioned, a serious look covering his expression. He looked down at you, watching you chew the inside of your cheeks. “I know you haven’t been working as much as you’re saying.”
“How’d you know that?” You hummed, ignoring the first question.
“I went to visit last Friday and you weren’t there.” His tone was soft, he wasn’t angry but you knew he’d get upset that you were hiding something from him. He was the one person you could turn to whenever something went wrong in your life, but with Rafe, you didn’t want any outside source to mess it up. You didn’t even know what to call it between you and Rafe. You tolerated each other, you listened to him and yes, you also wanted to rip his clothes off whenever you were around him but he never showed any hint of replicating them feelings.
The feelings you held for Rafe were something you never experienced before. You knew he was bad for you, he wasn’t right for you and you were from two completely different backgrounds but when you were around him, you felt complete and whole. You were able to be yourself, you were allowed to be stupid and excited. It was so easy to talk to him about anything, he listened to you and only offered advice when you asked him, he allowed you to rant and rave. He was different, but in some form, he felt so familiar and normal.
“Pope, it’s complicated.” You sighed, not wanting to get into it.
“And who is involved that makes it so complicated?”
Sitting up straight beside Pope, you twisted and crossed your legs in front of you. You scanned the remaining crowd; taking note of JJ Maybank laying on top of a blonde girl, Kie falling asleep near the smoking fire and a group of tourons messing around near the shoreline. “I can’t say.”
Pope sighed, shaking his head. “What can’t you tell me? Are you in trouble?”
“No, Pope. It’s nothing like that... It’s actually the complete opposite.” You whispered, looking up at him. “I think... I think I’m in love.”
A grin erupted on Pope’s face, the excitement bubbling in his stomach. “What?!” He screeched, wrapping his arm around you and pulling you to him, causing you to lose balance.
“Pope!” You laughed, pushing yourself up and steadying yourself.
“With who? Who’s the lucky guy or gal?”
“I can’t say.” You muttered again, grimacing when his face drops and his arm drops from your body. “You don’t understand, it’s different with him. He’s different.”
“He’s a Kook?” Pope questioned and you nodded, swallowing the lump forming in your throat. “You know I won’t judge because of that, Y/N. You know I’m better than that. So what if he’s a Kook?”
“I know, Pope. It’s not just that, it’s-”
“What’s Cameron doing here?” Pope said, and you were about to question him when you watched him stand up, eyes focused on the blonde Kook walking in your direction. You followed his lead, turning to face him.
“All the Kooks are gone, Rafe.” JJ shouted from across the beach.
Rafe raised his arms in surrender, he looked so soft and innocent walking up through the sand with the fire glistening across his face. His stare was solemnly on you, a sly smirk resting on his lips. You shuffled nervously in your spot, painfully aware that your friends’ attention was on the undeniably gorgeous man walking towards you. “The party over already?” He questioned, his right eyebrow lifting slightly.
“It’s late,” You mumbled, your chest was heavy and you could feel your heart pounding against it, your palms were sweating and you wished he’d just turn around and leave. “W-What are you doing here?”
“I just thought I’d come see my best friend,” Rafe said, emphasising each word. You couldn’t read him and it annoyed you, was he angry? having fun? teasing you? You weren’t sure what his goal was coming here. Did he want to piss off your friends?
“Toppers well gone.” Pope snapped, you had nearly forgot that he was standing right there.
You turned to look at your friend, shooting him a small smile. “I’m fine here, you go and help JB clean up.”
“Y/N-”
“Pope, I’m okay.” Pope looked at you before glancing at Rafe, all the pieces were falling together and his eyes widened. “Pope, I’ll talk to you later..” You whispered, your voice pleading not to cause a scene.
Pope leaned into you, placing a kiss on the side of your head. “I’m happy for you, but I hope you know what you’re getting into.” He said, his voice low so that only you could hear. You nodded at him, pushing past him and walking towards Rafe who was smiling big.
You grabbed his wrist, pulling him away from the curious stares and you kept walking down the beach until you were sure you were far enough that they couldn’t make out what you were doing. “Are you angry?” Rafe asked, his fingers intertwined with yours as you walked along the seashore.
Sighing, you looked up at the taller boy. “No, I’m just confused. Why did you show up here?”
Rafe kept walking, his eyes turning to the long strip of beach in front of you. He shrugged his shoulders after minutes of silence, “I-I just wanted to see you, I could have waited until tomorrow but I knew you were down here and I don’t know, I just found myself hopping in the truck...”
Your linked hands swang between your bodies. You were shocked at his answer, but you couldn’t deny that it didn’t make you happy. You felt on top of the world in that moment. “I missed you too.” You hummed, playfully nudging your shoulders against his.
“I never said I missed you,” Rafe teasing, smirking down at you.
“I got the message though.” You giggled, feeling like a little girl at Christmas time. It was easy being with Rafe when he was like this. Holding his hand was something new though, maybe it was just an impulsive thing he did and he was too embarrassed to let go, but you weren’t going to be the first one to pull away.
The further away you were from the dying kegger, the emptier the beach was and it was perfect. You liked it best when it was just you and Rafe, which it usually was. They were the moments you longed for, being with him and only him; the real Rafe. The one that isn’t a dick to your friends, or high on whatever drugs he got that week, or the angry impulse man you were used to seeing. The real Rafe was extraordinarily sweet and kind, he held the door open for you, he always paid for you despite your protests, and the thing that shocked you the most was that he listened to you. He was there for you, and you were there for him in the two months that you’ve truly known him.
“Where’s that mind gone?” Rafe asked, his voice cutting through your thoughts.
“What really made you come find me tonight?” You replied with a question, turning your body to look at him.
Rafe sighed and he held back a smile, “How do you know me so well already?”
“Avoiding my question...” You sang, stepping in front of him a bit making his arm stretch away from his body but he refused to let go of your hand.
“Remember that first night we spent together?” You hummed, stopping in your step. Rafe dropped his body down onto the sand, bringing you with him and you crashed into his side. He lay with his head resting on the sand, but his gaze was on. You remained seated beside him, hovering over him slightly. “I had a huge fight with my father that night, that’s why I was there. I wanted to get out of the house and I don’t know why I thought the golf course would be a good hideaway.”
“Bet you regret picking there.” You teased, watching him playfully roll his eyes.
“Definitely.” He laughed, and you smacked his chest. “But the same topic came up again tonight, and... well, he wants me to go to University and do a management course.”
“Rafe, that’s great... what’s the problem?”
Rafe exhaled, his eyes fluttering closed and you watched how his face tensed up, “It’s in New York. I applied months ago, I completely forgot about it and I was accepted, but two months ago, I didn’t want to go and now... now, I definitely don’t want to go.”
The feeling of nausea washed over you, your breath hitching in your throat. He was going to be gone nearly as quick as he came into your life. You weren’t going to beg him to stay, that wasn’t who you were. “T-That’s great, it really is, Rafe.” You stuttered, a smile twitching on your face.
“You think so?” Rafe asked, leaning on his elbows to bring his face closer to yours. Nodding, your eyes connected with his before dropping to his lips, watching his tongue dart out and wet his bottom one. You swallowed back the urge to lean forward, looking back up at his blue eyes. “Are you not going to ask why I don’t want to go now?”
“I think I can guess why, but enlighten me.” You replied, your voice soft and nervous. Your words trembling due to how close he was.
“I think I’ve fallen in love with you.” Rafe spoke, never breaking eye contact with you.
The smile erupted on your face but you didn’t move, “You? Falling in love with a Pogue?” You teased coyly, watching a smirk tugging on his lips.
Rafe lifted his hand, resting it on the back of your neck and pulling you in gently. He leaned his forehead on yours, breathing in your scent but he didn’t close the gap between you. “And what about you?” He whispered, his peppermint breath fawning over your face.
“What about me?” You replied, your eyes fluttering closed as you tried to be in this moment. The sound of the waves crashing onto the shoreline was mixed with your unevening breathing.
“Have you fallen in love with a Kook?” Rafe was afraid to ask the question, he feared the idea of being rejected by you.
You pulled away from Rafe, much to his dismay. Opening your eyes, the look of disappointment was on his expression. You lifted your hand, running your thumb over his bottom lip and resting your palm on his cheek. The disappointment slowly started to disappear, and he opened his mouth slightly, allowing you to place your thumb in his mouth and his lips clasped around it. The tension burned your skin, his eyes focused on yours as he sucked your thumb. You pulled it out slowly, and ran your fingers through his hair.
His hands found their way to your waist and he lifted you onto his lap, twisting you so that you were straddling him, your knees hugging his built torso. His fingers gently travelled up your bare arms, tickling your neck and he cupped your face. This time you leaned in, resting your forehead on his and he closed the gap almost immediately. His lips covered yours in a passionate, desperate kiss. You pulled him as close you could, trying to drown in his scent.
When the need for air got too much, you pulled away slightly but his lips chased you, connecting them again. His tongue slipped past your lips, exploring your mouth and you felt dizzy; you felt as if you were on cloud nine but you were falling into a river with a dozen fallen stars.
“Rafe-” You mumbled against his lips, pulling away from him and holding his face so he couldn’t kiss you again. Rafe pouted, brushing some of your hair out of your face. “Did that answer your question?”
“I did before you pulled away.” He chuckled, pecking your lips again. He wanted to get lost in that moment, he wanted to replay it over and over again.
“I’m sorry I needed to breath.”
“Are you finished breathing?” Rafe asked, pulling you back into him. This time he flipped you both over so that he was hovering over you. You had your legs wrapped around his body and you could feel him pressed against you, which made you even more excited. He leaned down, connecting your lips again. Your lips moved in sync, your fingers gripping his hair as you grind your hips against his causing him to pull away immediately. “Here?” He coughed out, looking up to see if anyone is around.
When he looked back down at you, you were breathless, mainly because he looked absolutely gorgeous. His lips were swollen, his icey blue eyes were wide and his hair was tousled around his face. “No one is here...” You smirked, biting your lip and lifting your eyebrows seductively.
“You’re going to be the death of me.” Rafe whispered, ducking his head to kiss down your jaw to your neck, and he used his fingers to move your shirt down, kissing over your shoulder. “Can I?” He muttered, lifting your top and you nodded, leaning up and letting him take your top off. His eyes scanned your chest covered in a bikini top and he worked his way down, kissing and nibbling on your skin. Each kiss leaving a trail of burning fire on your body.
You lifted your hips again, trying to release any amount of the urge in between your legs. Rafe got the hint, bringing your shorts down, along with the matching bikini bottoms and you grimaced at the feeling of sand on your bare bottom. “We should have brought a towel.”
“We can wait,” Rafe suggested, bringing his lips back to yours. You shook your head, fingers trailing down his chest before taking his own shirt off. You admired his bare chest, running your fingertips down his muscles causing him to shiver under your touch.
“Do you want to fuck me?” You asked, wrapping your fingers around Rafe’s neck causing him to groan and nod eagerly. He quickly removed his pants, his dick bouncing against his lower stomach. A moan etched from your throat at the sight, feeling yourself want to burst already. Rafe sucked on his two middle fingers, running them along your stomach before dipping into your heat, causing you to arch your back.
“Mmh, so wet...” Rafe whimpered, his fingers rubbing in circles and his eyes were intently watching you squirm underneath him. He entered his two fingers into you, moving at a slow pace at first before speeding up, watching your chest heave up and down rapidly. You were thankful that the beach was empty, your moans encompassed the deserted area. Your eyes were screwed closed, and you released any tense feelings you were experiencing, giving your full body to Rafe.
Rafe continued pumping his fingers in and out of you, but he leaned over you, pressing his face into the crook of your neck as he sucked and nibbling on your exposed skin. You felt yourself going higher and higher until you collapsed underneath him, becoming completely undone. “Mmm, good girl.” Rafe whispered into your ear, causing a whimper to escape your throat.
“Do you want me to-” You were about to ask, eying his hard cock but he shook his head, licking his lips.
“I won’t last two seconds if you go down there,” He chuckled, embarrassed. “Some other time.” He winked, reached for his pants and ripping out a condom. He ripped it open with his teeth, rolling it on him slowly. “Are you sure, gorgeous?” Rafe asked, and you only nodded in response. “Words, baby.”
“Yes, please, Rafe, fuck me.” You groaned, reaching to pull him closer and kissing him eagerly. You moaned loudly when Rafe filled you up suddenly, his groans mixed with your sounds and he slowly started to fuck you gently. A shaky breath escaped his lips as you tugged at his hair, urging him to pick up his pace.
Rafe’s eyes were drawn to your breast clad in that bikini top, they were begging to spill out as he fucked you against the sand. As his thrusts became more even, he kept grazing on your g-spot, making you moan with each movement. “Right there..” You begged quietly, his hand unconsciously made it’s way to your throat and his eyes looked at you as if asking permission. “Choke me, Rafe.”
A growl left his throat, his fingers wrapping around your throat and tightened with each thrust. You tapped his wrist to say that it was tight enough and he held it at that grip, watching your eyes roll to the back of your head as you released over his cock. The sight underneath Rafe had him bursting inside the condom within seconds, and he fell limp over your body breathing heavily. Sweat dripped from his forehead and he lifted his head to kiss your cheek. “Oh my god,” He whispered, exhaustion washing over him.
You crept into your house at four in the morning, your body moving in complete bliss and euphoric. The grin never left you face on the way home, you had the windows down and the music was playing quietly on Rafe’s car radio. He clasped your hand in his all the way home and he placed kisses on it every now and again. It took you twenty minutes to get out of the car, in between kisses and saying goodbye.
Wrapping yourself in your duvet, your phone buzzed on the bedside table.
Rafe: Good morning, girlfriend ;) sweet dreams :*
please please please let me know what you think about this!!

MBS EPISODE EIGHHHHT
weak. I hate to say it but I could feel it in my heart from the start. It had good moments but this episode just didn’t bring it home. I’m going to break this up into my usual notes and then some general evaluation. Notes: What is the deal with curtain and food? He has so many weird scenes with meals.. there’s probably some hidden meaning here but I don’t know what it is And they didn’t get to chuck-root the school :((((( Constance? Wants to pour acid on curtain’s feet Haha I liked Kate’s little “Nyoope” when the recruiters found her Martina redemption and the fighting tetherball team, sure Jackson and Jillson get even more unhinged. they terrify me We got Kate yeeting Constance up the tower, but her bucket had a built in rope motor somehow WE GOT KATIE-KAT but we didn’t get Sorry it took me so long And Milligan’s still moody instead of joyous Go Constance, break the thing, yay Number Two and Rhonda had some real shippy energy in this episode and PLEASE they are SISTERS Two more close profile shots of curtain in this episode, one where he is physically shorter than Milligan but dominating the interaction, and one where he’s physically looking down at Reynie but Reynie’s getting to him. Reynie has a heart to heart and curtain passes out. That’s different. Sticky even said, “it’s anger” and he was like “no, it’s vulnerability” oooooookay then. The whisperer is not an intercom/loudspeaker. sheesh. So the kiddos leave and the twins talk, resolving nothing, then curtain escapes REYNIE AND MISS PERUMAL NO COMPLAINTS HERE *sobs* Kate and Madge at the end <3 Constance refuses adoption!?!?!?!??! And no age reveal obviously rip Sticky’s family redemption he’s going to the totally not made up Boatwright Academy now Mr Benedict is like, I love you all, no snowball fight, the end. SIKE Curtain, SQ, and a totally real engineer lady are on a BOAT. You know, I felt bad for the engineer this whole series, as she is portrayed as kind of doing the technical work hoping it’ll be used for good, while curtain abuses its practical application, but her mood really shifted in that last scene. She was like heheh hey guy that I know is definitely is evil, howabout this mysterious blueprint... are they really trying to set up the sequel. Some tree branches will have to get pretttty bent.
Evaluation: keep reading! (sorry it gets long)
To recap what I’ve said from the start, I think the casting is fantastic but the tone is wrong. The darker, more saturated filter, the isolating camera shots, and very understated music make things colder and stilted. This is a constant throughout the whole series. The book was warm, messy, and full of charm, which I didn’t feel watching the show.
characters were.. compromised? Mr B starts off with a LIE about test winners going to Boatwright Academy. That undermines EVERYTHING he does from then on. “Regrettable but necessary” DOESN’T cut it. He’s also just so anxious and jittery instead of his gentile, kind, strong book self. Just from the show, they didn’t frame his genius very well. He seems more like a fool. Not really confidence-inspiring. In the same way, Being directed to cheat is one thing, but Reynie should NOT have lied to SQ to manipulate him into seeing the forest or whatever. Yeah reynie felt bad about it and SQ called him on it, but this is like the core values of our protagonist team, the strong love for truth. Also, I feel like in the show Reynie’s leadership isn’t highlighted. Like, everyone else has their thing but you almost wonder why he’s framed as the main character. The girls got bonding and the boys got bonding but there was hardly opportunity for him to really bring the team together into a cohesive unit Also, as much as I love Number Two’s life of crime (because it’s funny), she too should have that love of truth, but instead regularly does unlawful things. AND they never explained her eating, and even stopped having yellow clothes :( Additionally, the side story of her and Rhonda’s friction (entertaining I suppose) also really changed the character dynamic. In the book, the adult team was unwavering and wise, a sturdy basis for the perilous missions of the children. But their internal strife, while adding drama, makes them seem unreliable and less absolutely good and trustworthy. And I think trust and integrity are key parts of the book’s solid narrative. Constance’s refusal of the adoption felt wrong too. She was like, “Respectfully decline, but. I’ll stick around here.” I think they were trying to keep going with her contrariness, but it just comes across as foolish pride? Constance is a LITTLE GIRL. She DESERVES a FAMILY. SHE DESERVES A LOVING PARENT (and two wonderful sisters). Yeah family doesn’t have to be by blood OR lawful paperwork, but her actions in this scene really just. cuts off the feels at the knees. We KNOW she’s strong and independent but that doesn’t mean she HAS TO BE or even necessarily WANTS to be all the time. Over the course of the series we see her warming up to people, a kind word here, a little smile there, but this adoption refusal is.. harsh. Then we’ve got Sticky. Yes, he struggles with the comfort of the whisperer. And he overcomes it. BUT in one of the earlier episodes, they had him fighting with the team, defending the whisperer, dismissing his friends... and I count this as betrayal. It may be extreme on my part, but I think he went too far. The Society is the Society. In the book he bested his fears for them and with their support. Yeah he desperately wanted to just give in but he had PRINCIPLES and knew why he couldn’t. His honor, his responsibility to stop curtain, and his loyalty to his friends got him though. But in the show he just dumped them. And then was like, oh oops jk I’m back. (I knowwwwww the book has the privilege of being able to explain characters’ thought processes and emotional states, while shows have to work with more tangible actions and words but stilll I did not Like That) And finally, curtain wasn’t smart. He had hired people doing all the work. He just used it to his ends. Less evil genius and more manipulating creep. But this? I’m more ok with. As an villain, he got the job done. But this makes him less of a foil for Mr Benedict and more of an antagonist, if that makes sense. In the book they never knew each other, but were both alone in the world and greatly smart, and they chose verrry different paths. Whereas in the show he and B were always kind of opposites, warring in motivation and method from the start.
Let’s talk about the boss battle (such as it was). I said it was weak and I meant it. The book is heart pounding. There is so much going on, and so many people in play, the narration jumping all over the place in real time, all culminating in that clash at the top of the tower. Now, the show... the highs weren’t the highs. It felt more like checking off story points. Kate and constance outside - check. Resist the whisperer to stall for time - check. Milligan reveal - check. Reynie starting to figure out narcolepsy triggers - check. Constance shouting then you are the greatest fool of all - um, no, that didn’t happen. Constance defeating the whisperer - check. Curtain escapes - check. We got zero action. No good fights. I know Emmy Deoliveira is a kid and I’m not mad at her for not being able to do action sequences or run with Constance piggyback. But there was almost no physical conflict on-screen, and that’s Kate’s real time to shine. Also they had Number two and Rhonda in the tower ready to fight and then they just didn’t. All this build up for nothing. Furthermore, and I think this is the biggest problem, there was no momentum. Yeah they cut from scene to scene, but the music and tone cut scene-to-scene too. So there was like, dramatic music, Kate’s ready to fight! Get hyped! and then cut to absolutely silent, mr curtain staring at someone. feel mildly disturbed. and then cut to Rhonda and Number two being friends and ready to fight! Aww! And yay! Get hyped! And then cut back to Sticky sitting in a chair, dead silent. It goes on like this. The music, the urgency, should have carried throughout, building in intensity and desperation as the kids come together and curtain unravels more and more and then BAM! curtain down and OH NO! the whisperer and finally Constance’s “I... DON”T.... CARE!!!” and then the madcap escape from the island. Watching, I just couldn’t get swept away. Storywise, they tied it all up and logically it made sense but the emotional culmination just wasn’t there. It was over and done too quick. It fell flat. I didn’t feel the struggle, the suspense. And then they gave us a fabricated Mr B and Curtain conversation that didn’t really help anything. And then the falling action had some nice moments but as I mentioned, the things with constance and sticky kind of made it feel less relieving, joyful, and sweet. I know a snowball fight is elaborate to set and film but I would have loved to see it.
Final thoughts I can’t help but love the kids. I’ll say it again, I sure liked this casting. And for all the changes they had to make, the original central plot was there, and most of the characters were recognizable even with all the alterations. So I did have problems with some of that underlying integrity, as well as the overall tone and execution, but I also laughed at the little funny things, jammed to the title theme, and was excited to see this, my favorite book in the world, get more recognition. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to adapt a work of prose into an audiovisual medium, and considering how outlandish the book sometimes got, they gave it their best shot. I didn’t love it but I can recognize the accomplishment. In terms of faithful and well-made adaptations, on a scale of Percy Jackson to Harry Potter, I’d give The Mysterious Benedict Society a 6.5/10.

Part 3? of the story for my OCs for @inexplicifics Accidental Warlord AU! I intended to only write like the opening paragraph for this today but now it’s two hours later and the whole thing is typed out. Oops.
At some point this will all be on AO3, I promise! But until then, should I do a tag list? Would people want me to tag them as I write these in the meantime? Please let me know!
(Also points to whoever can guess what Veko’s talking about when it comes to colors and smells and things! I also have it, though not exactly like Veko does)
(Also bonus points to wherever can figure out what real life goat Ren is based on lol)
———————————————
Unfortunately, Veko wasn’t able to return to Eloise for a few more years. Between simply not being in the area, not having time between hunts, his brother Hamra almost being disemboweled one year, and his own injuries, he just hadn’t been able to make his way to her little town in Temeria.
This year, he was determined to go back, though he wasn’t sure why. He chalked it up to being able to stay somewhere comfortable, with actual good food, for free, but even he knew that was a flimsy excuse. Eloise fascinated him, for lack of a better word. She hadn’t been afraid of him—quite the opposite! From the get-go it was like she had tried to intimidate him, and godsdammit it worked. But she was so nice to him, and despite what she said, her food was quite good. Or maybe everything Veko had been eating recently was just that awful.
Veko swung down off of Nine—his new gray mare after Eight became wyvern food (rest in peace you prick)—and hitched her to the fence post outside Eloise’s house. For some reason, he was nervous to see her again. Was it because it had been so long (for a human anyway) since he’d been here? He didn’t want her to think he wanted out of their deal or anything.
Veko brushed as much dirt and grime off of his armor as he could before knocking on the door. A moment later, it swung open and Eloise stared up at him with wide eyes.
Veko scratched his burns. “Uh, hello Elo—“
Eloise threw herself at him, arms around his neck. “Oh my gods!” she cried. “You fucking prick! Where have you been?!” Veko faltered for a moment before tentatively wrapping his arms around Eloise’s, but she immediately pulled back, giving him an icy glare. “Well?!”
“I, uh, I’ve been... busy,” Veko replied, but for some reason, Veko felt awful despite it being the truth.
“Busy!” Eloise exclaimed. Holy shit, she’d really been upset about this.
“I’m sorry,” Veko said, staring down at his boots. “I really am. And—and I really was busy. I don’t want you to think I was trying to get out of the deal or anything, cuz I wasn’t—“
“You think I’m upset because of the fucking deal?!” Eloise shouted. Veko blinked at her and she pinched the bridge of her nose. “For Melitele’s—get in here!”
Eloise pulled Veko into the house and slammed the door. Despite the few years that had gone by, not much inside had changed. There were more paint supplies strewn around the house than last time, but that was about it.
Veko scratched his scars again and Eloise slapped his hand away. “Sorry,” he said automatically.
“I thought you were dead!” Eloise shouted, poking a finger into Veko’s chest. “You’re a bloody Witcher! That’s what happens, isn’t it? You fight monsters, and then you die. Well godsdamn you I thought you died!”
Veko was horrified when the salty smell of tears began tickling his nose; something must have showed on his face, because Eloise rubbed her eyes quickly, not letting any of them fall.
“I’m sorry,” Veko said again.
Eloise glared at him again before suddenly hugging him. “Fucking git,” she hissed. “Send a letter or something, at least! I don’t know how to get ahold of you but I’m always here!”
Veko hesitated again but hugged Eloise back. This time, she didn’t pull away. “Sorry,” he said into her hair. “Just, every time I was in the area, something would come up, or my brother was hurt, or I was too injured to travel—“
“Are you ok now?!”
“Oh yeah, all healed up now.”
“And your brother?”
Veko smiled sadly, remembering the blood on his hands and the horrifying look of resignation on Hamra’s face. “Touch and go for a bit, but yeah, he also made a full recovery. I just couldn’t leave him like that.”
Eloise finally pulled away and crossed her arms. “Well damn,” she grumbled. “How can I be mad at you now?”
Veko chuckled, feeling like a weight had lifted off of his chest.
—————
During lunch, Eloise filled him in on how things had been going since they’d seen each other. Lennart was still a bastard, but after being slapped in front of the gods and everyone by a lady at the tavern, he’d been officially removed from his position. A local woman had taken the title of alderwoman now, and things had been a lot better. A few of Eloise’s goats had had multiple babies, though a wolf problem last year had taken a few of them. She still had one of her original nanny goats, though, and apparently this particular goat was about as stubborn as they come.
“She actually chased one of the wolves off, even!” Eloise explained. “Charged it head on. I’ve never seen a wolf roll like that in my life.”
“Remind me not to piss your goats off, then,” Veko chuckled.
Eloise seemed to pause for a moment. “I actually have to go feed them,” she said. “Plus, your horse has just been... well, outside tied to my fence. Come with me?”
So that was how Veko found himself leading his horse to the tiny barn behind Eloise’s house. He could see a couple goats that were obviously youngsters immediately rush over to the fence, bleating loudly. From within the barn, a huge tan goat trotted out and fucking screamed.
Veko flinched and even Nine pulled back. “Sorry, sorry,” Eloise said. “That’s Georgina. She’s... special.”
“I’ll say,” Veko grumbled. “This our wolf chaser?”
Eloise shook her head and pointed to another goat on the opposite side of the paddock. A little black thing, shorter than the others, with huge, curled horns. Eloise whistled and the goat immediately charged—and slammed horns first—into the fence.
“Ren,” Eloise said, crouching down to scratch the goat between the ears. “She’s harmless. Mostly.”
Veko looked at Nine and seemed to almost share a stare with the horse. A ‘can you believe this shit?’ moment that got Veko chuckling despite himself.
“Whatever you say.”
Eloise led Veko and Nine into the barn and into a small empty stall. “This was my father’s horse’s stall,” she explained as Veko began undoing Nine’s tack.
“Where is your old man, anyway?” he asked as he heaved the saddle down.
Eloise looked away. “He, um,” she cleared her throat. “He passed, um, a few months after you left.”
Veko dropped the saddle. “Fuck,” he said. “I’m—I’m so sorry. Fuck, if I’d known—“
“Veko,” Eloise put a hand on his arm, “my father was sick. Even I didn’t realize how badly until a week before he went. But it was... it was peaceful, at least. I’d made him dinner, he wished me goodnight, and I found him in the morning.”
Veko honestly didn’t know what else to say. Death was a weird subject for Witchers, after all. He continued grooming Nine while searching desperately for something to say that wasn’t ‘sorry’ again.
“Did he have... a funeral?” Veko asked. He could’ve slapped himself. Of course he had a fucking funeral.
Eloise seemed to sense Veko’s fumbling, because she smiled gently and nodded. “A very nice one, too,” she said. “I’ll go get some water for your horse.”
As Eloise walked away, Nine looked at Veko again. What was it with this horse? Veko pointed a warning finger in his face; Nine simply huffed and turned away. Somewhere, Hamra was laughing, Veko was sure of it. His brother had always had a good relationship with his horses.
Eloise returned a moment later with a bucket of water. Veko immediately took it from her and poured it into the empty trough.
“What’s her name?” Eloise asked. If he could blush, Veko would’ve been scarlet.
“Nine,” he said.
“‘Nine’?” Eloise repeated. “Does that mean something in another language or like, the number?”
“The, uh, the number.”
Eloise slapped Veko’s hand as it reached for his scars. “Why?”
“She’s my... ninth horse.”
There was beat before Eloise burst out laughing. “You’re something else, you know that?”
Veko smirked to cover his embarrassment. “So I’ve been told.”
Eloise rolled her eyes and headed over to the opposite end of the barn. The far wall was lined with bales of hay. Before she could even reach for one, Veko rushed over and hoisted one over his shoulder. Eloise put her hands on her hips.
“You know I’ve been doing this for years even before you showed up, right?” And she had a point; what was wrong with him?
“I, uh,” he looked anywhere but at Eloise, trying to find an excuse. “I figured it’s... been a while since I’ve been here so I, uh, owe you. I guess.”
“Are you telling me or asking me?”
“Yes.”
Eloise laughed. “Ok then,” she said, heading back out of the barn. “I’ll get the gate at least.”
Veko followed Eloise to the paddock and held Ren by a leather strap around her neck while he made his way through the gate. The other goats immediately began following him. As soon as the hay hit the ground, the goats descended. Eloise let Ren go and the other goats parted to let her through.
“I never realized how scary goats were,” Veko said as Eloise latched the gate closed.
“To be fair, I have quite the herd of characters,” she replied. “Most people have a rooster to wake them at sunrise; I have Georgina and her screaming. Ren is like my own personal guard hound. Sometimes she gets out and chases off anyone who gets near the house. The others are still young, yet, but they’re slowly starting to show their personalities.”
“I’ll stick with horses, I think,” Veko said. “They’re enough trouble as it is.”
“Apparently!” Eloise laughed as she and Veko made their way back to the house. “Seeing as you’ve had nine of them!”
“This is a dangerous job!” Veko defended, but the tone was joking. “Plus in the grand scheme of things, nine horses hasn’t been a lot for how long I’ve been on the Path.”
Eloise’s brow furrowed. “How old are you?”
“Old.”
Eloise scoffed and started gathering some of her paints. Veko followed her into her art room, not sure what else to do at this point, and found the walls covered in different paintings than the last time he’d been here. One in an ornate frame was her father, exactly as real as if he was standing before them.
Eloise picked up a few leather straps from one of the tables. “Help me with something,” she said. “I’m going to repaint the goats’ collars and I don’t know what color to give who. I want you to help me decide.”
“Ok?” Veko said, taking a seat. “Why?”
“Something you said to my father, when you saved him,” Eloise replied. “It always confused him. He told you he lived in the house with the blue roof and you said it suited him. Why?”
Veko went to scratch his scars, but instead balled his hand into the fabric of his pants. “Well, it’s, uh,” he hesitated. Of all things for that old man to focus on!
“My father was always fascinated with color,” Eloise said, as if sensing Veko needed a minute. “That’s how I got into painting. He was never content with something being the original color it was. Hence, the blue roof. He said that you saying the blue suited him kind of, I don’t know, validated him.”
Veko’s chest felt tight. Now he felt fucking terrible for not being here before. Maybe Eloise’s father would’ve understood, or at least found it interesting that—
Veko cleared his throat. “So, sometimes,” he began, staring down at his hands. “When I think of things, or names, or... well anything, really. I get these senses.” When he looked up, Eloise was enraptured. “Like, your father, just looking at him, the color blue came to mind. I don’t know why.”
“Just colors?”
Veko shook his head. “Smells, sometimes. Like when I think of you... I, uh, I think of the smell of your paints.”
“That’s... that’s fascinating, Veko,” Eloise said. “Tell me more?”
Veko gestured to the collars. “Well, you’re trying to figure out what color for what goat. As soon as you said Georgina, green came to mind. I don’t know why. And Ren is red, but not because the name and word are close. Uh, sometimes when I picture my supplies in my pack, I see them like they’re all laid out on the table, lined up side-by-side, despite the fact that I know damn well they’re a jumbled mess in my bag. And in my head, the order is always the same. I kinda do the same thing with months. I see them lined up like squares on a wall.” Veko grimaced. Fuck. “No, ‘see’ is the wrong word, cuz I don’t—I’m not hallucinating or anything!”
“I believe you,” Eloise said softly, taking one of Veko’s hands in hers. And she was telling the truth. Veko felt the tension in his body release.
“It’s weird, I know,” he said. “So I don’t normally say anything. When I was younger the trainers thought my head got fucked up by the mutagens but it’s just the way I’ve always been.”
“Does your brother have this too?”
“No,” Veko chuckled. “But he’s been the most receptive to it, even if he doesn’t understand it. Like, his favorite color is green, but when I think of him I think of like an indigo color. And I’m red, but I don’t know why.”
“What about me?” Veko met Eloise’s gaze and held it. The look on her face was one of honest curiosity and interest. She smiled at him and squeezed his fingers. “What do you see when you think of me?”
Veko swallowed. “I see turquoise, like the color your dress was the first time we met. I don’t know if it’s because that’s what you were wearing or what, but when I think ‘Eloise’ I think of that faint turquoise color.”
“Does it work for family names?”
“Sometimes. What is your full name, anyway?”
“Eloise Calold.”
Veko cocked his head to the side. “Yellow,” he said. “Calold is yellow.”
“But not because of anything I’m wearing,” Eloise said, gesturing to the paint-stained brown smock she was currently wearing.
“Guess not.”
“Veko,” Eloise breathed. “That is the most fascinating thing I’ve ever heard of. So you see colors? Or, think in colors? I wish I had that. I wonder how it would affect my art. I wonder how it would affect your art.”
Veko pulled away and put his hands up. “Hey, whoa, who said anything about me being an artist?” he said.
Eloise laughed. “I bet you’re better than you think,” she said.
“I bet not.”
Eloise smirked. “Tell you what,” she said. “I’ll drop the subject if you do something for me.”
“Name it?”
“Let me paint you.”
Veko again was struck silent. She wanted to paint him? Apparently his mouth was hanging open, because Eloise tapped his chin to close it. “Why?” he managed.
“Because,” she replied. “We’re... friends. Or I like to think we are. And in case... in case something happens to you...” she gazed at the painting of her father, smiling down warmly at them, “I want you to be immortalized with him.”
What the fuck could Veko say to that? “Oh. Ok,” he said dumbly. “Uh. How do you want me?”
Eloise jumped up and ran for a blank canvas. “Whatever’s comfortable!” she called. “It takes a while.”
Veko just... sat there as Eloise began setting up. He turned this way and that, never quite settling, before Eloise huffed and dragged an armchair over. Veko abandoned the stool he’d been on and sat back into the warn leather.
“Better,” he said. He turned, scar facing away, and immediately Eloise’s hand reached out to turn him back. Her fingers grazed the puckered mess that was his cheek and he flinched.
“I’m sorry,” Eloise said gently. “I just—I want to see it.”
“Why?” Veko whispered.
“Because it’s a part of you,” Eloise replied. “And gods know I’ve kept you from scratching it enough.”
There was a moment where neither of them said a word. Veko’s heart sped in his chest like it hadn’t in many years. Eloise gazed over his burn scars and gently brushed her fingers over them again. Veko didn’t flinch this time, but just barely. Her fingers were cool against the phantom heat of his burns, and as she traced the expanse of them along his jaw, he couldn’t hold back the full-body shiver the touch elicited.
Eloise pulled back and Veko scrambled to find something to say before she said anything else about them. “So—so how does this work?” he asked. “I, uh, I just sit here?”
Eloise nodded and finally pulled back. “Yes,” she said, not meeting his gaze. Now that he was out of his own head, Veko could hear her heart hammering in her chest. “Just, um, get comfortable, relax, and um, don’t... don’t move, if you can help it.”
Veko grinned. “Ok.” Eloise nodded and began mixing a few paints.
Veko just... watched her. As brush met paint and paint met canvas, he could almost see the cogs turning in her head. Instead of sticking her tongue out, like he’d heard some artists do, she made faces. A stroke here and her mouth pinched to the side; stroke there and her mouth opened in a little ‘o’.
Veko wanted to slip into meditation, as that would be the best way to sit still for her, but he found he just couldn’t. As much as Eloise was watching him for her painting, he wanted to watch her. He couldn’t help but think of the last time they’d seen each other, and what he thought of her then. She wasn’t all that attractive, merely plain by any standards. Her laugh was unladylike and jarring. She intimidated him. She swore. She—
She made him dinner. She let him sleep in her home. She told him stories and listened to his in turn. She wanted his opinions. She found his mental crap fascinating. She worried for him. She cried for him!
She called them friends.
As Veko sat, watching Eloise paint his portrait, a warm weight settled in his gut. He didn’t want to leave in the morning. Hells, he didn’t want her to ever finish this bloody painting. And although emotions aren’t exactly a Witcher’s strong point, he had a sinking suspicion that what he was feeling...
Fuck.

You were almost crying literal tears. It had been three hours since the AC in the building cut off and now everybody was sweating buckets; which was definitely not a good thing with Bakugou in the same building.
All of class 1-A was in the living area with all of the windows open and the fans on, most of which were pointed at your hot-headed friend who was lying right next to one of the windows. Todoroki had tried to use his ice to cool everybody down, but all it did was almost freeze the entire room.
Groaning, you hit your head lightly on the floor. “Why did it have to do this on the hottest day of the year?!”
Not noticing a body squirming closer to you, you jolted before you noticed it was just Izuku who was propped up on his elbow. Smiling, you greeted him. “Izuku! Have you heard from Aizawa-sensei about the AC?”
He shook his head. “Not yet. The last time I checked it would be another couple of hours.” His face was apologetic as he saw your grimace. “Sorry y/n-chan.”
Quickly smiling again, you waved him off. “S’no problem. Just a little toasty is all.” Yawning, you added, “Also, kind of tired. I didn’t think the heat would make me so drowsy.”
Izuku laughed, “Why don’t you just take a nap?”
Pouting up at him you sighed, but nodded. “Sure sure. Will you nap with me?”
The puppy eyes you gave him were his kryptonite. How could he say no? I mean he was also a little sleepy himself, not having slept well the night before.
Nodding his head in agreeance he shuffled to a more comfortable position, lying on his back beside you.
You were half tempted to cuddle into his side, but decided you didn’t want that to be the cause of your death, so you opted with getting into a similar position as him. As soon as you were comfortable you almost immediately started drifting off. Man, I must have been tired, you thought.
A hand brushed yours from beside you, causing you to suddenly jolt awake a little. Turning your head, you saw Izuku had his eyes closed but his hand had mysteriously moved closer to yours.
Smiling, you turned your head back and shifted your hand beside his. Within a few seconds you felt the warmth of his hand envelop yours as he intertwined your fingers together loosely. You sighed in content as you felt his thumb brush over your hand a couple of times.
As you were falling back asleep you suddenly remembered something funny that you had read earlier which caused you to let out a rather loud snort without realizing.
“Uhm, y/n-chan? Are you okay?”
Opening your eyes and tilting your head, you found most eyes in the room had turned to you, your face reddening upon realizing why.
“Uhh yeah I’m fine. I just remembered a joke I read earlier.” Your reply was sheepish.
Mina nodded and clapped before going back to fanning herself. “Tell us! We need some humor to lighten the misery.”
You contemplated for a few seconds before shrugging. “What the hell. Why not?” Glancing at everyone around the room you stated, “Just be warned. It’s a bad joke.”
Uraraka shook her head. “Nonsense. Just tell us.”
Taking a deep breath, you closed your eyes to try to lighten the embarrassment. “I stayed up all night to see where the sun went,” opening your eyes you paused for effect taking in everyone’s silence smirking as you finished, “Then it dawned on me.” You hardly got the last word out before you snorted again. Why was this so funny to you?
All you heard was silence for a few seconds before a laugh barked out from the other side of the room. You could barely see Bakugou from where you were laying but you were sure it was him. No one else laughed like that. Once he started laughing you started laughing harder. Everyone stared at you two with both amused and slightly worried stares.
Calming down, you wiped your eyes of the fresh tears giving a pointed look to your classmates. “See? Bakugou appreciates good humor.”
“Tch. No. It was just really stupid.”
You rolled your eyes. “Whatever Bakubro.”
“Don’t call me that!”
Sticking your tongue out at him, knowing he couldn’t see it you turned towards Izuku, startled at his gaze. His eyes were right on you, filled with amusement and something softer you couldn’t place.
“What?” You were barely aware of a joke that Kaminari told that had the whole room in laughter. Your eyes were focused solely on Izuku’s face.
He shook his head, smiling. “It’s nothing. You’re just cute.”
His words caused a soft blush to form on your face. “Oh? You think so?”
Nodding he squeezed your hand. “Yeah. I do.”
You had to turn your head away to hide the massive smile that made its way onto your face. Why was he so cute?
Your voice was soft. “Thank you, Zuku.”
Now it was his turn to blush at the new nickname.
Soon enough everybody settled back into their positions, everything quiet again except for the sounds of the fans and the ambience coming from the opened windows. You started drifting off for the second time, hand still holding onto Izuku’s, wishing that it wasn’t so hot so that you could properly cuddle him.
Oh well. Maybe next time.

You don’t remember when these feelings came to be. You don’t remember when you first felt your heart skip a beat whenever he walked past you. You don’t remember the first time you started replaying all your conversations with him in your head when it was 3 am and your brain wouldn’t shut up. You don’t remember the first time you blushed when he sent you a soft smile after you stared for a second too long. No, you don’t remember those things; but you do remember the first time a small blue rose petal appeared in your hand after you coughed too hard.
Hanahaki Disease: Hanahaki Disease (花吐き病 ) is a disease where the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear.
For months you lived with this disease not even your parents knew. How could they? After all, they were each other’s first love – their love wasn’t one-sided and besides, you didn’t want to worry them; you can get through this yourself.
 Right?
You leaned over the bucket, velvet-soft petals tickling your throat before pouring into the overflowing bucket. Tears prickled the sides of your eyes, threatening to spill just like the petals that scattered to the ground.
God, does this ever stop? You coughed again, gasping for air as you sat on your knees on the cold tile floor. Shit, what time was it? You have school today! Coughing one last petal out, you emptied the bucket into a plastic bag and threw it to the side, grabbing your school bag and rushing out the house.
You couldn’t be late… the bus leaves and waits for nobody. You ran as fast as you could to the bus stop, stopping only to get oxygen back into your system. You still had the wind knocked out of you from spewing rose petals all over the bathroom, but you made it just in time.
The bus was basically full with the only seat that was empty being…
 Shit.
You genuinely thought of flinging yourself out of the bus or just standing, but that wasn’t an option.
“Hey, sit down, will ya? I can’t move if you don’t,” the bus driver grunted as you flinched.
“S-sorry, sir…” you mumbled, holding your breath when you sat in the only seat available.
Clutching the bag in your lap tightly, you tried your best to ignore the awkward presence next to you. You went to the same school as him! You shouldn’t be feeling this uneasy…
 “Ah, (L/N) (Y/N), right?”
 Fuck.
You raise your eyes to meet his eyes. “Yes…? You’re Akaashi Keiji.”
He nodded, giving you a once over before finally saying, “Did you go to the flower shop beforehand?”
 “No…?”
“You have a flower on your shirt,” he explained. “Well, a petal.”
Your eyes widened and you looked down at the collar of your shirt. Lo and behold, a bright blue petal was tucked away, but you can see most of it poking out. You felt your cheeks flush in embarrassment.
 “Oh… ha ha… thank you?”
He nodded. “It’s fine…” He was quiet for a moment before murmuring, “blue looks good on you.”
 ***
Why did he have to be in the same class as you? Every single time he was near you, the flower in your lungs thought that it would be a wonderful time to bloom. Right after the bus stop, for example, you coughed your lungs out into a janitor’s basket before forcing your way to class.
Biology, the first class of the day and he was a foot away from you. Did the gods have something against you? Twenty minutes into the class, you felt yourself on the verge of another coughing fit.
You raised your hand meekly, and the teacher looked at you, an eyebrow raised in mockery. Your other hand was covering your mouth as you forced the bright blue rose petals down but you couldn’t. You let out a cough, a few petals falling into your hand. Begrudgingly, the teacher lets you go to the bathroom, and you run out the door frantically.
‘How pathetic,’ you thought to yourself as you coughed out more petals. The roots were getting deeper, you can tell. You cough harshly once more, and a small rose bud falls onto the tiled bathroom floors. ‘Get over yourself. He won’t look at you twice.’
But you knew that. You knew that more than the next person. So why… Why couldn’t you get over him? Each cough hurt more than the last, and the toilet was full of small blue petals. Some had small splotches of blood on them, and you could smell the metallic scent of the blood overtaking the soft scent of roses and tears. You wiped your tears with the cuffs of your school blazer. No more, you willed yourself, stepping out of the cubicle.
Splashing cold water on your face, you let out a breath as you stared at yourself in the mirror. When did you stoop so low? Your eyes were blotched with tears and your cheeks were hollow from not eating. This was just too much. You clenched your eyes closed, tears rolling onto your cheeks as you did. You shook your head; time to get back to class.
 ***
“Hey, are you okay?” Aneko asked gently as you nibbled on your lunch.
You mustered a smile to please her. “I’m okay.”
“You had a coughing fit this morning; I don’t think you’re okay.” She gave you a disapproving look and you couldn’t help but flinch under her scrutinising gaze.
 “It’s just a cough. It’ll pass.”
You can tell she doesn’t believe you, but your silence finishes off the conversation. Well, it should, anyway.
“(L/N)-san, are you feeling alright?” A voice asks from above you, and you felt your heart drop.
“Akaashi-san. Yes, I’m okay, thank you.” You don’t look at him, eyes drawn to the bento in front of you as you fought the soft blush on your cheeks.
“If you keep coughing, the nurse should be able to give you some medicine,” he says gently, his eyes looking at you from above.
Your eyes flickered to his for a second. “I don’t think there’s a medicine that can help me.”
He opened his mouth to respond but is pulled away by a loud and boisterous third year. “AKAASHIII!!!”
“They need you,” you said, closing your bento. “I have to go. Let’s go, Aneko. Thank you for your concern, but I really should get going.”
 “But-”
 “AKAASHIII!”
He sent you one last look before running after his friend. You just stayed silent, clenching your fists in your lap as Aneko shot you a confused look.
“I didn’t know you were friends with Akaashi,” she remarked, frowning at you. “What happened?”
“Aneko,” you murmured, tears prickling your eyes, “do you know of the Hanahaki disease?”
Her eyes widened. “Don’t tell me…”
You just sent her a wry smile before running to the bathroom.
 ***
Another disastrous day. The bus was relatively empty on the way home, probably because some of the boys had afterschool volleyball training. Pulling your phone out of your blazer pocket, you opened up Google.
‘Is there a way to get rid of the Hanahaki Disease?’
Multiple sites came up; some were even websites of hospitals that claimed to get rid of the disease.
You pressed on a tab that seemed to answer your question.
‘Surgery can help, but I had a friend who was unable to feel affection after the surgery.’
 ‘You should confess first!’
‘The medical bills are really expensive, but it’s worth it.’
‘Would you rather suffocate from flower petals or lose the ability to love? My sister did it and she regrets it all.’
‘There’s a guy who does it in India for cheap.’
‘The cheapest is 150,000 yen. Good luck.’
You groaned, closing the tab and leaned back in your chair. Could this day get any worse? How were you supposed to get 150,000 yen, anyway? Even if you could afford the surgery, there was no way your parents would even allow you to take it. Hugging your bag closer to your chest, you let out a sigh. The only way to get rid of these emotions was to either have the person love you back, get over him, or surgery. There was, of course, the prospect of drowning yourself in bleach, but you didn’t think that your friends and family would agree to such ‘extreme’ methods.
‘Dammit, Akaashi, you’re giving me problems when I need it the least,’ you thought to yourself, as you stepped out of the bus. How long does it take for this disease to kill you, anyway?
The answer was six months. According to your research, you have had the Hanahaki Disease for a minimum of four months, so you were basically on the verge of death. In other words, you had 2 months to either take the surgery, get him to fall in love with you, or die. The options didn’t seem too promising.
Your parents weren’t home today, as usual. A note was waiting for you on the kitchen bench and you suppressed a sigh.
‘Dinner is in the microwave. Don’t skip your dinner.
~ Love, Dad’
 You skipped dinner anyway.
 ***
School counsellors were really… different. They’re not teachers, but they teach you valuable ‘life lessons’ when you really need it. They’re not nurses but they take care of you when you’re hurt. Well, they take care of you when you’re hurt mentally.
According to a lot of other students, the counsellor at Fukurodani could either be your best friend or sworn enemy. But at this point, you were desperate. You really needed advice and you couldn’t just ask your friends. No, that wouldn’t work out. After all, they were as insane as you.
“Tell me whatever you need to tell me,” she said with a gentle smile as you looked around the room that enclosed you.
The room was really… childish? Ladybug wall stickers decorated the walls topped with  a huge cat poster plastered  by the door. And still you questioned yourself, God, what were you supposed to say?
You had it rehearsed in your mind, ‘I have the Hanahaki Disease,’ but when it was your turn to talk, your tongue was glued to the roof of your mouth.
The woman across from you, bless her, just sat there with a patient nod. She handed you a pen and paper.
“Can you write it for me?” She asks as she puts her glasses on.
You did as you were told.
You watched as she read over your scrawl and her jaw dropped. It just… dropped. You’re not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but her jaw dropped as she gaped at you, glasses askew.
“The Hanahaki Disease… are you sure?”
You raised an eyebrow as if to ask, ‘I have rose petals coming out of my mouth and you think I’m not sure?’
She sighed, leaning back in her chair. “You know, that is very dangerous. Have you consulted a doctor? Have you told your parents?”
“I don’t want to worry anyone,” you mumbled, “my parents aren’t home a lot so they wouldn’t have time to take me to the doctors, and the surgery is pretty-”
“You’re considering the surgery?” She cut you off, mouth open and surprised but there was more to that; she was… concerned.
You grimaced. “What else can I do?”
She raised an unamused eyebrow but a ghost of a smile  spread on her face. “You can try telling him?”
The thought alone made you feel sick. “I don’t think I can. He obviously doesn’t like me that way.”
“Have you tried talking to him?” She prompted, taking out a notepad to write in before nodding at you to continue.
“We only had one decent conversation and that was about English homework. We’ve only talked once outside of school and…” you fell silent, averting your gaze. “Why would he like me, anyway? He has volleyball to put up with, and his grades are perfect. He doesn’t need a love interest entering his life.”
The counsellor sighed, looking you dead in the eye. “The most important thing for a relationship to bloom is communication. If you can’t hold a conversation now, how is that supposed to help you in the future?”
You hated it when important people had a point. “It gets worse when I’m near him.”
“Just imagine you’re talking to a friend,” she said kindly, before proceeding to ask more questions.
 ***
You stepped into the class halfway through your fourth period. All heads turn to you as you lowered your head in embarrassment. Meekly passing the teacher a late slip, you took your seat behind Akaashi Keiji.
You couldn’t bring yourself to say anything when class ended and everyone packed up to get ready for their next class. However, the first move had already been made.
“Akaashi was asking about you,” Aneko said as you grabbed more books out of your locker.
Your eyes widened, flickering to hers for a split second. “What did he say?”
“He wanted to know if you were alright. I was getting worried too, y’know; you were in the counsellor’s office for a lot longer than I expected.”
“She wouldn’t stop talking,” you said in a half-hearted explanation. You didn’t want to go into the details.
“(L/N)-san, you went to the counsellor’s office?”
You wanted to shrivel up and die. You didn’t prepare for this! What were you supposed to say now?
Letting out a small breath, you turned around to face him. “Yeah, but I’m okay.”
“Is your cough getting any better?” He asked gently, peering down at you with concern.
“Yeah, I’m getting better,” you lied, praying for the little flower growing in your lungs to disappear in this short moment.
He nodded, “I’m glad. Ah, and I photocopied my notes from the previous classes. They should cover the lessons.”
You swallowed thickly, fighting the heat that clouded your cheeks.
You stuttered out a timid response. “Thank you…”
He sent you a small smile before taking his seat. You felt sick all over again and coughed out some more petals. Aneko’s eyes watched you with concern as you faked a smile.
“I’m okay. I don’t need to go to the bathroom for this,” you said, hoping to calm her nerves.
“I’m taking you to the doctor’s after this, got it? Screw your parents, you need some medical advice,” she deadpanned, her tangerine eyes staring into yours and you can’t help the sigh that escaped your lips.
“We’ll talk more after class,” you promised before sitting down and going over the notes Akaashi made for you. Your heart hammered in your chest as you read his kanji. Unsurprisingly, it was neat. But then again, what were you expecting from Akaashi Keiji? He seemed to be the type to take everything quite seriously.
Ten minutes pass. Then twenty… thirty minutes later and you wonder to yourself, I didn’t cough once?
 ***
“How long did you say you had this disease for?” The doctor asked.
“According to Google, around four months,” you answer, fiddling with your fingers.
“Any particular reason you didn’t come with your parents?”
 “They had work.”
Aneko hummed to confirm your statement. “She’s alone for most of the time. That’s why I am here to help!”
“Right…” the doctor eyed her before turning back to you. “Have you talked to him?”
“Why do people keep asking me that?” You mutter to yourself, digging your nails into the palms of your hands.
The doctor let out an exasperated sigh. “Unless you can earn yourself an ungodly amount of money, the only thing you can do is hope to earn his affections. That or the flowers in your lungs will kill you.”
You knew that. The words seemed to fall on deaf ears because, hell, you knew that better than anyone in the room. Were you the only one with this disease? Everyone you talked to, everyone you confided in… they never seemed to have this disease. Your parents were in love with each other as soon as they met. The school counsellor has never been in love with anyone before. Aneko and her boyfriend have known each other since they were kids and fell in love relatively quickly while this doctor makes the Hanahaki Disease sound so simple. As if it was nothing more than just a small phase or bump in one’s life.
 Bull shit.
You didn’t want this disease any more than the next person. Why? Because the disease hurt; it hurt a lot. The worst thing about it was the fact that there was no actual cure. The disease itself was kill or be killed; kill your feelings, or kill yourself. There was not an actual cure. Scientists didn’t know how the flower itself blossomed in one’s lungs. They didn’t know how to cure it.
The worst part? The Hanahaki Disease claimed the lives of more people than traffic accidents and suicide combined. People weren’t necessarily scared of the disease. They were just… uneasy and you understood why.
One thing was for certain though; the Hanahaki Disease was based on genetics. So somewhere along the line, one of your family members was affected by this particular disease. Of course, your parents probably never even thought about the possibility, so they probably didn’t test if you had the gene.
Man, you really hated your parents sometimes.
You left the doctor’s office silently, eyes downcast. Your knees trembled from below you and you felt as if you could collapse any minute now.
“Aneko,” you murmured, stilling yourself and looking at her. “I didn’t cough when he was there.”
She frowns, “What do you mean?”
“When Akaashi was next to me, I didn’t cough a single petal. Not even once did I cough. I only did when class ended.” You showed her a weak smile before continuing. “It probably doesn’t mean anything though, does it?”
“This is why you need to talk to him,” she said before stepping in front of you with her hands on her hips. “You’re dying, (Y/N). That isn’t something you should be taking lightly.”
“I know,” you whispered, avoiding her eyes. “It’s not that easy you know. He has things to do and… he doesn’t need this right now.”
She nodded, continuing to walk down the street. “I’m a pretty shitty friend, huh?”
Your eyes widened, and you gape at her.
Quickening your pace to catch up to her, you glared. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“I don’t know how you’re feeling right now. I’ve never been in your situation and I… what am I supposed to say to you?” Her voice is rising and you noticed that she had stopped walking altogether. “You’re always the one taking the shots and helping me. You’re the one who introduced me to Eito. You’re the one who stays up late to help me with the assignments I put off. You’re the one helping everyone with their problems. You’re always giving, (Y/N), you’re always the one who puts others in front of yourself!”
Tears leaked out the sides of her eyes and rolled down her cheeks.  You opened your mouth to say something but she cuts you off.
“This is the one time you’re meant to be selfish. This is the one time you’re supposed to put yourself first. All you do is give! People –” she choked on her tears before saying – “people envy you, you know? I envy you! You’re usually so happy… you’re so willing to help others, even if they’ve done you so much wrong!”
She wiped her tears with her arms, but they kept coming. “This – this is the one time you need help with something and I can’t even do anything!”
She’s crying harder and all you can do is watch on. Fat tears dropped to the cemented ground as she wails louder. “Be selfish for once, (Y/N)! Please… I can’t lose you!”
You’re crying now, too, but you don’t realise it until you taste the salty tears from the corner of your mouth. They spilled silently as you watch Aneko, your best friend, sob into the sleeves of her jumper .
If anyone was around, they would think that you were weirdos. Two random teenage girls crying their eyes out in the middle of the street wasn’t a natural occurrence.
You wipe your tears away with the back of your hand and offer her the most realistic smile you could muster. “Let’s head home, okay? We can binge that sports anime you’ve been meaning to watch.”
She sniffs, the last of her tears splashing to the floor. “Okay.”
 ***
You’re both late to school the next morning but you don’t really care. Aneko leaves at 5am to sneak into her house that was two blocks away from yours. You’re racing to gather your things so that you can do your homework in the bus.
After puking out another bucketful of rose petals in the bathroom, you’re bolting out the door to catch the bus. There were more places to sit now, and if this was any other circumstance, you would have sat as far away from Akaashi as you could.
‘TALK TO HIM!’ You order yourself and you do before you could change your mind.
You pulled out your geography homework. From the corner of your eye, you note how Akaashi’s eyes do an onceover of your work. Trying to block him out, you began to answer the questions.
What metropolitan area is the largest in the world not bordering a body of water?
What the heck? You blanched at the question. You don’t remember this being in the textbook! You screamed internally, and you have half a mind to pull out your phone to do some research.
“The answer is Johannesburg, South America,” a voice from beside you says helpfully.
You look up, your eyes are met with gentle navy eyes. Your cheeks burn as you look away. How is it possible to have such pretty eyes?
“Oh… thanks,” you mumble, and you let out a breath. “Hey, Akaashi?”
His eyes widen and he clears his throat. “Yes? Is everything okay?”
“Uh… thank you again for photocopying your notes! It was really nice of you! I would’ve gotten them from Aneko, but her handwriting is… questionable,” you laughed lightly, easing yourself into the conversation. “Thanks for caring, is all I’m trying to say.”
The smallest of smiles makes its way onto his face and he looks at you with sincerity. “I’ll always care, you know?”
“Wait, really?” You blink twice at him, confusion swirling in your chest.
He nodded at you, looking out the window. “I care more than you think.”
 ***
The conversation replayed in your head over and over again, and you can’t help but stare dreamily out the window. When lunch began, Aneko snapped her fingers in your face, bringing you out of your daze. You flush, looking up at her as she grinned down at you.
“So… what happened with Lover Boy over there?”
“Nothing,” you wave her off, trying to ignore the blood that rushed to your cheeks. “We just… talked.”
She wiggled her eyebrows at you teasingly. “So are you guys, like, together yet?”
“It’s not that easy,” you mutter, raising an eyebrow at her. “Love doesn’t just appear, it builds over several conversations and it takes time.”
“Not all the time; Eito and I had love at first sight,” she swooned lightly, and you rolled your eyes at her antics. “Anyway!” She exclaimed, slapping the table. “You have to talk to him more! You like him, right?”
“Obviously,” you deadpanned, giving her a look of amusement.
 “Then go talk to him!”
With that, she pulled you out of your chair and pushed you out of the room.
You rolled your eyes, “That wasn’t very Plus Ultra of you.”
 “(L/N)-san?”
You spun around to face the person, a small smile on your face. “Hi, Akaashi-san! Yeah, Aneko threw me out of the classroom.”
“Oh, I see,” he nodded in understanding.
 “AKAASHIII!”
You jolted out of surprise, eyes widening when you see a third year look down at you.
Akaashi let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Bokuto-san. What are you doing here?”
“What’s wrong with seeing you? You’re annoyed of me, right?” A pout rested on his face, and you couldn’t help but question his strange hairstyle as you looked up at him.
“Um… hello? You’re Bokuto Koutarou, right? The captain of the volleyball team?” You forced a friendly smile.
“You must be (L/N) (Y/N)! Akaashi talks a lot about you!” He grinned at you with an owlish expression.
You felt your cheeks tinge red. “Really?”
“That’s enough, Bokuto-san. You’re scaring her,” Akaashi sighed before turning to you. “Ignore him. Do you want to watch our volleyball practice after school? You seem to be interested.”
You flush pink. “I don’t want to be a bother…”
“I invited you. It’ll be fine.” A small smile made its way onto his face. “I’ll take you after school.”
 You grinned, “Okay!”
 ***
Aneko beamed at you, pinching your cheeks while she was at it. “Aw, (Y/N), I’m so proud!”
You rolled your eyes, pushing her hands away from your face. “He invited me to watch his volleyball practice; it’s not that big of a deal.”
“It is when you like him!” She cheered, the smile on her face widening. “You’re gonna cure that dumb disease and you’re gonna get a hot boyfriend. I rate that ten out of ten.”
You don’t respond, instead finding your phone much more interesting.
“Huh? What are you doing? (Y/N)…” You could practically hear the pout in Aneko’s voice.
You moved your hand away, blocking the screen so that she couldn’t see who you were texting. “I’m not doing anything.”
“Then show me!” She whined, before a sly smirk rested on her lips. “Oh, I see. You’re texting Akaashi, right?”
“What makes you think that?” You flushed, looking away from her.
Aneko grinned, patting your head in jest. “Have fun with him, (Y/N)! Don’t forget me, alright?”
You couldn’t help but laugh, knocking her hand once more. “Alright, alright. Now go away, Eito is waiting for you.”
She nodded, brushing her mousey brown hair out of her face. “Text me tonight, yeah?”
You hummed in agreement before turning back to your phone.
“(Y/N)-san,” a voice called out, and you felt your cheeks redden.
You let out a breath before smiling up at the setter. “You don’t have to add honorifics, Akaashi-san. We’re friends, right?”
“Then call me Keiji,” he offered, looking down at you.
“Keiji,” you said slowly before nodding. “Then call me (Y/N).”
“I’ve always liked your name,” he remarked nonchalantly. “Come on, we have to get to the gym, okay?”
With a slight skip in your step, you followed him to the Gym 03. He slid the door open, revealing multiple yellow and blue balls flying over volleyball nets. They flew from all directions, and stray balls seemed to be more dangerous than the actual people. The people in the volleyball team were tall, big, and intimidating. You couldn’t help the little shiver that crept up your spine.
You felt a hand rest on your shoulder and you looked up at Akaashi. He sent a reassuring smile your way.
“They’re not as scary as they look,” he promised, taking you up to the high rises. “They’re a bunch of babies when you get to know them.”
You couldn’t help the laugh that escaped your mouth. “I’ll take your word for it, then.”
Watching from above, you noticed the way everyone on the team worked together; how they cheered each other on and the way they dealt with Bokuto… everyone was a lot friendlier than you thought they were.
But all the peace and happiness you held was cut short as your stomach lurched and you felt your heart thunder in your chest. Your lungs suddenly started wheezing for air and you stumbled down the stairs. Trying your best to open the gym door as inconspicuously as possible, you bolted to the nearest bathroom to empty your lungs.
You gasped for air, coughing wildly as petals spilled out of your mouth and onto the walkway. Droplets of blood fell into the palms of your hands before inking the ground. Thorns tumbled out of your mouth, scratching and wounding your throat as you staggered to the bathroom, the metallic taste of blood filling your mouth and taking over your senses. Your left hand leaned against the side of the gym, and you tried your best to stabilize yourself, but trying seemed to be futile.
Sobbing from the pain, you fell to your knees as petals and rose buds fell out of your mouth. God, this could not be happening right now.
Breathing heavily, you furiously wiped the tears and sweat off your face. You looked around you at the mess of blood, flowers, and thorns. You stared at the dark green thorns that scattered around you, and you couldn’t help but feel another wave of dread wash over you. Why…? Why was the disease getting worse? You thought that everything was getting better; Akaashi was talking to you more and you were making so much progress with him as well! So why was it getting worse?
You sucked in a breath, trying to regulate your breathing as you wiped your tears away. Your lungs burned in your chest as you got up from the ground, trying your best to clean the mess you made.  Somehow managing to make it look like someone didn’t commit murder with a bouquet of flowers, you made your way back to the gym.
Forcing a smile, you slid the gym door open. All eyes turned to you and you felt a blush rise to your cheeks.
“Um… I had to go to the bathroom,” you said shakily, avoiding any and all eye contact.
“You were gone for a while,” Akaashi noted, “are you feeling alright?”
“Yeah, I just needed to get some air, y’know?” You faked a laugh before waving him off. “I’m fine, really. Go back to practice, Keiji.”
He nodded silently, glancing back at you for a split second.
“AKAASHIII! It’s your serve!” Bokuto exclaimed. “NICE SERVE!”
Picking up the ball, Akaashi let his eyes wander to you as you sat at the high rises. He felt his heart tug in his chest as he threw up the ball to serve.
 Don’t lie to me.
 ***
Practice ended a while later, and you had done your best to not gawk at your long-time crush. Sure, you have seen his games before, but that was live on a screen. This was different. Here you could feel the thud of the balls as they hit the floor violently, and you could feel the heat and exhaustion leaking off the players; you don’t feel that kind of thing through a screen.
“Thank you for letting me watch your practice,” you said, bowing respectfully at the coach and the two managers.
They smiled, and the coach replied, “You’re welcome back any time.”
“(Y/N), I can walk you to the bus stop if you would like?”
You felt yourself panic internally as you stood in front of the open door. You didn’t need to turn around to know who it was but you do anyway.
Opening your mouth to say ‘no’, you found that the only word that escaped your voice box was, “Sure.”
“I’ll change first, and then we can go.”
You answered with a slight nod, and the pain you felt just moments ago filled your thoughts. Shaking the feeling off, you waited by the gym doors.
 “So, you and Akaashi?”
You felt your heart leap to your throat as you spun around to face the person. It was Suzumeda Kaori, one of the team managers on the volleyball team. She smirked at you, sending you a knowing look.
“We’re just friends,” you said bashfully, but on the inside you wished that what she said was true.
She didn’t believe you for a second, “Really?” She asked drily, the smirk on her face widening by a second. “So… you don’t like him?”
“I… never said that,” you said under your breath, and you felt your cheeks burn in embarrassment. “We’re just friends though. I doubt he even knew I existed until a few weeks ago.”
“Huh,” she remarked, before picking up a stray volleyball. “Whatever you say, (L/N)-chan.”
“(Y/N), are you ready?” Another voice cut in, and you nodded your answer to the question.
The walk to the bus stop was calm as the cherry blossoms fell and drifted over the two of you. It was nice, to say the least. Every so often, you found yourself glancing at the setter through the corner of your eye before forcing your gaze to  turn back to the path. You groaned internally. You were falling harder, and the fact that you practically had a ticking time bomb planted in your lungs wasn’t helping.
“I’ve noticed you and Bokuto are really close. When did you meet?” You cringed slightly at the poor excuse of a conversation starter, but he didn’t seem to mind.
“I met him last year when I first went to the club. He said that my tosses were good,” he smiled slightly at the memory, and you felt your heart skip a beat.
“That’s pretty cool. He’s really loud, so I was surprised when I found out you were both friends.” You let out a small laugh.
He nodded in understanding, “I get that a lot. He’s not that bad when you get to know him. When I introduced you, you looked pretty intimidated.”
“I was… surprised. He’s really loud and he’s quite the character.”
 “He’s a good guy; and he’s reliable.”
“I’ll take your word for it.”
Silence is the only thing that followed as you waited at the bus stop. Akaashi had taken sudden interest in his shoes, and you were trying to wrack your brain for a conversation starter.
“I forgot to ask,” he said, cutting the silence. “Are you feeling any better?”
You blinked at him, clueless for a moment before it dawned on you. “Oh, yeah, I told you I was fine, didn’t I?” You shot him a reassuring smile. “I was just feeling light headed in the gym. It was really warm.”
“Ah, right, that makes sense. I’m glad you’re feeling okay, (Y/N).”
Why was he able to make something as simple as your name sound nice? Blood rushed to your cheeks as the bus pulled to a stop, and the both of you took a seat. Cheeks still flushed red, you focused your vision on the window. There were a few scratch marks here and there, and you watched as the cars drove past. Red car, blue car, black car, black car, white ca-
“Are you hungry?” A calm voice questioned from beside you.
You opened your mouth to answer, but you didn’t need to.
Your stomach growled at the mention of food.
Keiji chuckled softly before handing you a curry bun. “Here.”
You eyed it warily, “Do you have one? I don’t want to eat your lunch or anything… and you’re the one who was doing the physical activity.”
“I have one right here,” he said, pulling out an identical bun. “Have it.”
You hesitated, but took it gratefully, taking small nibbles. “Thanks.”
The rest of the bus ride was relatively quiet, the both of you having small snippets of conversation throughout the ride. The bus lurched to a stop, and you glanced outside the window to check what stop you were at.
“Ah, this is my stop, Keiji. Thank you for accompanying me; it was really nice of you.” You grinned, showing a clumsy bow before picking up your bag. “Thanks for the food as well!”
“You don’t have to thank me, (Y/N). I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” He smiled gently.
With a final wave, you stepped off the bus before making your way to your house, cheeks warm and a goofy smile on your face.
Meanwhile, Akaashi sat in the bus, staring wistfully out the window. With a final sigh, he picked up his phone and clicked ‘call’ on a particular contact.
 “Bokuto-san. I need your help.”
***
You returned to school the next day, expecting for the day to be the same as every other one but when you stepped into the classroom, you found a strange biological piece of matter on your table.
A single blue rose with all the thorns cut off on your desk. It was just… sitting there. You suddenly felt sick. Who the hell confesses to someone with a blue rose? Albeit, it was a very pretty flower, but it wasn’t something one would confess with. That is, if this one was a confession. What happened to the red and white roses at the flower shop? It was nowhere near Valentine’s Day or White Day, so there shouldn’t be a shortage of supply.
The only conclusion you could make was the fact that someone knew about your disease. Someone must have seen you. Your stomach churned with anxiety as you picked up the rose. There wasn’t a note to go with it, so there was no way for you to find out who delivered it to you. Then again, the rose might not have been for you.
 “Ooh, Whatcha got there?”
You yelped at the sound of your best friend’s voice, nearly dropping the flower in your hands.
“Don’t creep up on me,” you grumbled, shooting a glare at her.
Aneko grinned, plucking the rose from your hands. “What’s this? From a secret admirer, maybe?”
“I think someone knows,” you said abruptly, crossing your arms over your chest. “Did you tell anyone?”
“What? You know I don’t talk to anyone but you and Eito and I didn’t mention anything to him.” She frowned, tapping her chin thoughtfully. “Maybe Akaashi knows?”
 “Why would he know?”
“He invited you yesterday to watch practice. You did say that you had a coughing fit right?” A sly smirk made its way onto her face. “Maybe he got worried when you left the gym and followed you.”
You let out a sigh as you took a seat at your desk. Resting your chin on the palm of your hand, you looked at her expectantly. “He wouldn’t like me; he probably just thinks of me as a friend.”
Bending down to reach eye level with you, she flicked your forehead, and you yelped in pain. “Stop being a baby and tell him.”
“It’s not that easy!” You countered, rubbing the area she flicked. “I can’t just magically make the disease go away by confessing. He has to like me too!”
“You’re not making it any easier,” Aneko pointed out.
You shot her a fiery look, hitting the top of her head with a maths textbook. “Shut up, Aneko.”
She pouted at you before taking her seat. Akaashi entered the classroom moments later, taking his usual seat in front of you. You felt your heart hammer within your chest as you stared at his usual unruly mop of black hair.
You did your best to focus on the task at hand. However, trying to focus on a class you had zero interest in was becoming a problem. Staring at your very blank page of paper, you were very close to screaming. What was the lesson on again? Was this maths or geography?
“Ah, (Y/N), Eito wanted to talk to me about something. I’ll see you later!” Aneko exclaimed, and you brought yourself out of your reverie.
“Wait what?” You glanced around, but the classroom was pretty much empty.
“Wait, Aneko-”
But she was already out the door. You groaned, hitting your forehead against your table in frustration.
“I really should have paid attention,” you muttered to yourself, squeezing your eyes shut.
A small shuffling sound next to you snapped you out of your daydream and you looked up at the person.
“Keiji?” You couldn’t bring yourself to say another thing, your mouth opening and closing as you thought of what to say.
“You seemed to have trouble with the lesson,” he said gently, holding a book out to you.
You blinked at it warily before gingerly taking it. “You don’t have to do all this for me. And… how did you know that I couldn’t concentrate?”
“Aneko,” he responded, looking at you intently. “You can borrow my notes.”
You watched as his eyes wandered to the rose that was on your lap and you felt your cheeks burn. “Ah, this is nothing! It was on my desk and I guess someone put it there. I don’t know who, but-”
“Do you like it?” He asked, his eyes ghosting over your face.
“Yeah… it’s a shame it probably isn’t meant for me, though.” You offer a shy smile.
He nodded briskly before patting your shoulder. “Do you want to watch practice again today?”
 “Really?”
“Why not? It gave everyone else motivation and you enjoyed it, right?”
“Yeah, I did! It was really cool watching everyone work together like that; your tosses were amazing! It seemed to get the whole team to bond. You’re really focused on the court. I guess you have to be when you’re the control centre of the team.” You shut your mouth abruptly, and your cheeks reddened even further. “Sorry, I’m rambling aren’t I?”
“I don’t mind,” he said tenderly, a strange fondness on his features. “We’ll go to the gym together at the end of the day.”
You beamed. “I look forward to it!”
 ***
The rest of the day goes smoothly. Well, as smooth as it could be. Halfway in your third period, you choked on a thorn and had to be excused for a full half-hour before returning to the class. For most people in the class, you were either faking to skip class or you were genuinely sick. Strangely enough, your teachers seemed to understand  your situation and didn’t question when you left the class randomly.
Wonderful, you thought to yourself for the umpteenth time as all heads turned to you when you had returned to class, I’m absolutely pathetic.
You could still taste blood when you walked with Keiji to the gym, but holy shit, you wished that this could end.
And you realised that maybe it would end; very, very soon.
“Akaashi-kun!” A high pitched voice rang in your ears and you flinched slightly.
You and Keiji were just about to leave the school when a girl with bouncy yellow curls pushed her way between the two of you. You blinked, confused and rather insulted as you stumbled backwards, watching the girl cling onto Akaashi’s arm. You watched as his jaw clenched in agitation.
“Can I talk to you?” The girl asked with a sickeningly sweet smile as she side-glanced you before hissing, “Alone.”
He nodded wordlessly as he followed the girl.
You were no stalker; you were no eavesdropper either. Looking up at their retreating figures, you tried to find a reason as to why you should stay put. Your lovesick brain didn’t have a good enough reason.
 “Akaashi-san, I like you!”
You choked as you clapped a hand over your mouth when you heard her high-pitched voice screech a confession.
“Thank you, but I like someone else,” Keiji’s monotone voice said, and you let out a breath of relief.
That was good, right? Maybe it was you! Or maybe it won’t be. You groan inwardly, steeling yourself as you listened to their conversation.
“I’m sure I can be better than her!” The girl exclaimed and you rolled your eyes.
“I’m sorry, but I like her very much.”
Oh. You slowly made your way back to where Akaashi had left you, thoughts running through your mind. How were you supposed to compete against her?
Moments later, Akaashi returned to your side, hands stuffed in his volleyball jacket.
 “Did you wait long?”
“No, not really. The bus is coming, we should go.”
He nodded, wordlessly walking beside you. The silence that followed was, to say the least, awkward. You had a feeling he knew you were listening in to his conversation, and he knew you were uneasy about the entire situation. Tugging nervously at your bag strap, you couldn’t help the glances you sent from the corners of your eyes.
“Hey, Keiji,” you interrupted the silence and he turned to you, eyebrows raised as a signal to continue. “Uh… do you want my number? You can tell me when you have practice so I can bring extra food.”
“I don’t mind bringing you food, (Y/N),” he said, but a small smile was etched on his face. “I’ll give you my number, too then.”
And so, numbers were exchanged and the apples of your cheeks were flushed in happiness. That was progress, right?
The bus pulled to a stop, and you hopped up from your seat. “Thanks for walking me to the bus again. See you tomorrow!”
Dropping your bag to the floor, you slumped onto your bed, a small yawn slipping from your mouth.
 From: Akaashi Keiji
Did you make it inside safely?
You grinned at your phone, quickly typing in a response.
                                                                                                    To: Akaashi Keiji
                                                                                                                        Yep!
                                                                                                    To: Akaashi Keiji
Thanks again for letting me come to practice!
 From: Akaashi Keiji
Do you want to come to practice tomorrow?
You couldn’t hold back your squeal.
 ***
Three weeks passed in a blink of an eye and your friendships with the volleyball team grew. Aneko was still going out with Eito, and that would mark their second year of dating. Unsurprisingly, they dragged you into their two year anniversary, so you were forced to third wheel with them. That was when Aneko found out that you and Akaashi were texting a lot. She gave you hell for it.
“Four weeks,” Aneko remarked suddenly, crossing her legs as she rested against your bed.
You glanced up from your homework, “What do you mean?”
“You have exactly four months to live.” Hugging the pillow in her arms tighter, she looked up at you. “What are you gonna do about it?”
“What am I supposed to do about it?” You mutter, spinning your chair around to face her. “I’ve done everything I could.”
“But you haven’t even told him yet!” She countered, clenching her fists.
“I don’t have to tell him anymore! He…” You trailed off, recalling the words he spoke a few weeks prior.
                                                   “I like her very much.”
His words carwled back into your mind and you managed a wry smile. “He said he liked someone. That’s all I heard.”
“How do you know she isn’t you?” Jumping up from the floor, she shot you a pointed look. “Tell him you like him. There’s no point in both of you liking each other and not acknowledging it by confessing.”
“But what if it isn’t me? I’ll ruin a perfectly good friendship,” you argued, folding your arms over your chest as you reciprocated the look.
She groaned, grabbing hold of your shoulders. “Then he doesn’t deserve you. You have to tell him! The whole story!”
“No promises,” you laughed, shaking her hands off of you. “Get off!”
She rolled her eyes, the smile seemingly stuck on her face. “I’m really happy for you, (Y/N).”
“Thanks, Aneko,” you grinned up at her, “You’ve always supported me with everything.”
“Then support me with a meal!”
 “Fine.”
 ***
Fortunately for you and Aneko, Akaashi had invited you to his usual Wednesday practice with the volleyball team. The whole team treated you like an extra manager, asking you to bring refills if they really needed it. Despite knowing that there were already two managers, you were perfectly happy with helping them out while you could. However, while the team was fine with you joining practice upon invitation, people seemed to take their enthusiasm for you being there an invitation in itself.
One of those people just happened to be Etsudo Emiko, the blonde girl who confessed to Keiji a few weeks ago. After he plainly rejected her the first time, she decided to take it upon herself to barge into the after school volleyball training. Unfortunately, when the other managers complained about her being a distraction to the team, Etsudo brought up the fact that you were allowed to watch the practices freely. As much as the coach wanted to take their side, he knew that the only way to get rid of Etsudo was to stop allowing you to attend the practices. The problem was, while Etsudo did virtually nothing to help the team, you motivated the team in multiple ways.
Nevertheless, Etsudo was allowed to attend the volleyball practices if she didn’t bring anyone else to which she swiftly agreed. Hence, the three weeks of patience testing began.
“Keiji! You did so good!” Etsudo’s high pitched voice reverberated through the gym.
The rest of the team let out quiet groans as the girl ran down the stairs to latch onto the setter’s arm. He let out a frustrated sigh, tugging his arm away from her. Not relinquishing, she trailed after him, completely unabashed.
“Am I the only one who hates her?” Kaori asked, her nose scrunching in disgust as she pumped a volleyball with more air. “You’re the one who likes Akaashi. I’m surprised you can even stand to be in the same room as her.”
“She’s totally annoying,” Shirofuku Yukie, the other manager, remarked. “The whole team knows that there’s something going on between you and Akaashi.”
You managed a small smile, “There’s nothing going on between Keiji and me. He probably doesn’t even like me that way.”
The both gave you a piercing look. “Are you stupid?” They asked together.
You don’t respond, eyes trailing back to Keiji. Etsudo was still clinging onto him, pouting up at him with her big green eyes.
A small cough erupted from your throat, and a lone petal found its way into the palm of your hand.
“I have to go to the bathroom,” you said awkwardly, dropping the ball you were holding to the floor.
 “Are you-”
“I’m fine,” you responded by default, “I’ll be back in ten.”
With that, you ran out of the gym, a hand over your mouth as more petals dared to fall.
Why was the bathroom so far away?
You gasped for air as petals and thorns spilled to the ground, your tears following after them. Blue rose buds stained with blood escaped your throat as the metallic taste filled your mouth as dark red thorns scraped the delicate skin. The pads of your fingers dig into the red brick wall, the skin scratching as you dropped to your knees.
Despite the obvious pain and the salty tears that streaked down your cheeks, you couldn’t help the sarcastic laugh that you let out.
“Déjà vu really is the worst.”
A violent cough erupted once more, and you inhaled a shaky breath as more petals drifted to the concrete floor. As they did, the gentle patting of footsteps distracted you for a moment before the footsteps stopped directly beside you. Panic rose inside your chest. You needed an explanation!
While you wracked your brain for an excuse, a hand rested in the middle of your back.
“Breathe, (Y/N),” a gentle voice whispered.
If you died now, would Aneko kill you?
 … Probably.
Your coughing died down after several minutes, and you wiped your mouth with the back of your hand.
“I’m sorry,” you mumbled, eyes trained to the mess in front of you.
“What are you sorry for?” Akaashi questioned, crouching down to be level with you.
“I’m disturbing practice, aren’t I? What’s Bokuto gonna do without you?” You shot a teasing smile at him, but it didn’t quite meet your eyes.
Keiji sighed at your answer. “Don’t answer with another question, (Y/N).”
“Sorry,” you said automatically, cheeks flushing in embarrassment. “I didn’t want you to see me like this.”
 “Who is it?”
“What?” You stuttered out a response, looking up at him for a second.
“Who is it?” He repeated, his gunmetal eyes boring into yours.
“Why do you want to know?” You asked, getting up from the ground to gather your mess. “It’s not important, anyway.”
He was silent as he rose to his full 6 feet form looming over you. “Not important?” He repeated, mostly to himself than to you. “How can you say that about yourself?”
“Well I’m obviously not lying,” you countered, pointing to the floral monstrosity at your feet.
The muscles in his jaw tightened, and you noticed the way played with his fingers. He was worried – nervous, maybe. “You can die from this. I’m not as oblivious as you think I am.”
A sarcastic laugh erupts from your throat, but it comes out more as a strangled chuckle. “Sure, Akaashi. Whatever you want to believe.”
The look on his face darkens, and you avert your eyes from his. When was the last time you used his last name? His watchful eyes glanced over your face, trying to read your emotions. If he could read Bokuto, he would be able to read you, right?
 Absolutely.
“I know you’re scared, (Y/N). You need help to get better.”
“Do I, though?” The eye roll you pulled off had you feeling a little guilty, but at this point you were done with everything. “I don’t need to get better.”
“Why do you keep saying that?” He demanded, the tension in the air growing thicker by the second.
 “Maybe because it’s true!”
 “I’m saying it’s not!”
He let out a frustrated grunt, eyes shutting for a moment as he thought of what to say. “You mean a lot to everyone.”
 You scoff, “really?”
“Have you thought about Aneko-san, your parents, the team? What about-” He stops short, shutting his jaw closed as he averted his gaze.
“What about what?” You ask tentatively, your eyes still fixated on the mess in front of you.
 “… Me.”
Your eyes flickered to him, the slight hunch of his shoulders as he stood.
“Have you…” A forced smile made its way onto your face. “Have you considered the possibility that he might be you?”
The silence that followed seemed to taunt you and you berated yourself internally. Did you hear wrong? Did he say something else? Maybe you were mistaken.
In split seconds, you felt a pair of gentle arms surround you, wrapping you in warm embrace. You had the slight temptation to laugh – were you in some shoujo manga or something? But instead, you return the hug, burying your face into the crook of his neck.
 “I really like you, Keiji.”
“… I really like you too.”

CHAPTER 1
The sound of something bubbling in a cauldron and a strong smell fill the small room. There’s a physician tending to what could be assumed to be a potion, his face is focused and partly covered by long grey hair that is starting to grow whiter at the top. He is humming to himself, unaware of the young woman watching him from the open window. Waiting for him to leave before she gets caught, not that she ever gets caught, but one can ever be too careful. She’s not there for the potion brewing on top of the fire, no, her sight is on the yellow liquid inside tiny vials on the other side of the room. The antidote to a new flu that’s starting to spread around different kingdoms. The main villages, the big ones near the castles, have no problem dealing with it. Their physicians have access to the herbs and other ingredients necessary for the antidote, all of them provided by their kings who order them from far off lands. Smaller villages that are often overlooked by their rulers, don’t have the same privilege.
So here Emersyn is, stealing some vials from King Salazar’s physician to take to with her to the village of Westbelle. It was the village where she grew up in, the one that welcomed her every time she came back and the one that wasn’t wealthy enough to afford a cure for the flu. There haven’t been many affected by it, only 5 people so far but with the virus spreading so fast she wanted to get the vials to Westbelle’s physician, Milton, as soon as she could. A few of them would be enough, he was talented when it came to rationing ingredients as one has to be when things are so scarce.
The physician Emersyn had been spying on stops humming which makes her focus on him once more. He’s putting on green cloth gloves and taking the cauldron out of the fire, setting it aside and extinguishing the flames with a bucket of water. As he puts the bucket back by the barrel of water next to the door, there’s a knock. “Lyon? His Royal Highness is calling for you.”
“I’ll be right there.” Lyon says to the guard who had stepped inside the room, making Emersyn duck her head just enough to see but still avoid being seen.
The guard nods and stands by the door as Lyon stirs the potion a couple of times and adds some herbs. “That should do it. Let’s go, it needs to rest for two hours anyways.” Lyon opens the door and the guard follows, closing the door behind him and giving Emersyn the chance, she was hoping for.
She waits a couple of minutes before climbing in through the window, quiet as a mouse and her steps careful around the many cauldrons the physician has lying around as well as the jars on the shelves. She moves towards the yellow vials, reaching for one but noticing they aren’t sealed, so she walks to a nearby desk to look for cork stoppers. “Seriously Lyon, organize your desk.” Emersyn mutters to herself, opening drawers, moving papers and opening boxes to find what she was looking for. “Aha!”
In the last drawer there’s a clear jar full of cork stoppers, so maybe Lyon wasn’t that disorganized. She takes 8 vials, sealing them shut and double checking they won’t leak on her way back before carefully placing them in her backpack. Bells ring outside, from the chapel probably, and startle Emersyn who takes a step back and knocks down an empty cauldron. She turns around and is glad that the cauldron barely made any noise, that is until it starts to roll away towards a shelf full jars with ingredients. Emersyn flinches as five jars fall to the floor and break making a racket, then the door bursts open. With a deep breath, Emersyn turns towards the guards by the door and smiles.
“Good morning, boys.” She crosses her arms behind her back.
“Let us see your hands, thief! Return whatever it is you stole, immediately!” The guard on the right demands, pointing his sword towards her. He’s tall and blond, his eyes are dark brown and determined. The guard by his side though, looks like he’s about to pass out by the nervous look in his eyes.
Emersyn puts her hands up, leaving them close to her bow and arrows. “Come on, no need to make a scene. It’s such a nice day outside.”
“We don’t care, now, put t-that bow on the floor and h-hand over the backpack.” The nervous guard manages to get out which makes the thief smile.
“No can do, boys. Like I said, the weather is lovely outside, so I might just enjoy the outdoors.” Emersyn takes her bow and arrow, shooting one at the tall ceiling in the physician’s office, just above the window. There’s a rope tied at the end of it which she uses to climb towards the window, at a speed that’s helped her escape in many occasions. How her arrows hold her weight? Emersyn doesn’t know, an old lady in her village says they’re probably cursed but Emersyn doesn’t mind if it gets her out of situations like these.
“Stop that thief!” She hears the guards yell but pays them no mind as she climbs out of the window and uses two arrows to climb towards the roof. The red roof tiles have lost some of their color from the sun and crack slightly as Emersyn steps on them and starts to run.
The kingdom’s alarm goes off and she hears guards start to follow her. Turning her head to look back, she sees that there was a door near a watch tower which the guards had used to get on the roof. “Where was that door when I needed it?” She rolls her eyes and picks up the pace, scanning her surroundings, thinking about her next move. To her left the roof forms an L shape but there is another watchtower with a door. Emersyn assumes more guards will come out of it any moment now, so the left side is not an option. She looks straight ahead and smiles as she spots a tall tree. It would be a big jump, she thinks, but I might make it. Grabbing the arrow and the rope, Emersyn takes aim as she nears the end of the roof jumping as far from it as she can manage before shooting her arrow at the tree she had spotted. She holds on tightly to the rope, yelling at the strain of being pulled by it and cursing at the splinters she’s getting from the trees branches as she sinks halfway on them.
“Follow her!” The same blond guard from before yells after her. “Now!”
“Good luck.” Emersyn smirks, climbing down the tree and starting to run west.
She’s weaving through the trees left and right to use them as cover, and she manages to get a little more than a mile between her and her pursuers before she hears the distant sound of horses galloping behind her. She scans her surroundings, the river still flows on her far right, so she makes so sure to avoid it in case the guards decided to chase her using their boats as well. Instead, Emersyn decides to move closer to the mountains knowing the high ground will give her an advantage against the guards and their horses. Just as she finds a path towards the uneven rocks at the base of the mountain though, a low growling reaches her ears, this sound closer than the horses in her pursuit.
“No, not them again.” Emersyn mutters, picking up her pace knowing that the other party chasing her were much faster than horses.
Here’s the thing, ever since Emersyn had to fend for herself on her own, some strange creatures stared chasing her. They had the body of wolves and the head of a lion, their fur was grey and green and their fangs looked incredibly sharp. Most importantly, they always managed to find Emersyn no matter where she went. They could lose her trail for a couple of days before they were on her tail once more. Lately though, they were getting even better at finding her, managing to do so in at least a day and sometimes in less than twelve hours.
A glance backwards confirms her fears and she forces herself to run even faster when the creatures jump over some hedges and get close to her. Emersyn is breathless but she has to get to those rocks and try to get away, she also doesn’t want to shoot any arrows at them because they look like huge kittens and she doesn’t want to hurt them. The creatures, however, seem to have no qualms about hurting her. Once Emersyn gets close enough to the rocks at the base of the mountain, she decides to shoot an arrow as high up as she can with the rope attached to it so she can use it as support to climb. The creatures catch up though and are fast enough to jump on the rocks leading up to where she’s hanging in the air. Emersyn stops mid climb and swings towards a nearby pine tree, knowing that it would be harder for the creatures to follow her that way. She curses at the splinters she gets on her fingers but wastes no time while climbing higher up, the creatures growling and jumping below her as they try to reach her. Trying to come up with a plan as fast as possible, Emersyn scans her surroundings and smiles when she spots a path up a very steep and rocky hill to her right. Taking a deep breath, she takes another arrow and shoots it towards the path. She makes sure the arrow is secure and she ties the end of yet another rope on a branch before using her backpack to get from the tree to the mountain once more, grunting when the rope gives out and she almost falls down towards the creatures. Taking the arrow and the rope with her, she starts to climb up the steep path thankful for the creatures not being able to reach it. One glance back makes her unaware of a downward slope at the top of the path and she slips towards a dark cave, which’s dark tunnel leads out to the middle of two big mountains.
There is a tall tower next to a lake and surrounded by several apple and orange tress. The tower is grey, with vines and wildflowers growing on the bottom and slowly making their way towards the top. Its roof is light blue and easily lost in the color of the sky and several golden details around the windows look like they have faded throughout the years. Emersyn hears the creatures snarl again in the distance and that is enough to get her running once more. She makes her way to the tower, grabbing onto the vines to climb and reach the open window on the easter side of the tower. There is a faint smell of roasted vegetables in the air as Emersyn gets closer to it before gracefully jumping in. She turns around and glances out of the window to see if she had been followed but there is no one out there except for her, and a beautiful view. Emersyn can see hints of the sea to her left beyond the mountain, the sun which is starting to get lower, gleams on the water like diamonds. Emersyn has little time to appreciate the view though, because suddenly there is a sharp pain on the side of her head, and everything turns into darkness.
--
Four voices speak up from their place in the tower’s kitchen.
“Is she the one that matches your heart Harrison?” That is Jeffrey the pitcher, his tone is excited as he sees the only other person he’s ever encountered since his time in the tower.
“Will she get you out of here?” Daria the oven speaks up next, the oven door squeaking the tiniest bit as it moves with each word.
“But he doesn’t know how to control his powers yet! He never uses them.” The grumpy voice of the clock, Martin, matches its reprimand towards the prince. Although he is fairly annoying with its need to follow rules, he has taught many life lessons to the prince as grew up during the last few years.
“Hush!” Stephen, the stool that is usually by the window, interrupts Martin before he can lecture the prince further, getting them all back to the matter at hand. “Harrison, why did you hit her?!”
“I panicked okay!” The prince says. “It’s been 6 years since I’ve seen another human and I am paranoid.”
Harrison had hit the girl that jumped through his window with a pot. Guilt fills his heart, but she had startled him and seeing as he had been making dinner, the pot was the closest object he could use to defend himself. His friends though, are more interested in knowing if she is the person his fairy godmother had said would rescue him, than on the fright she had given him. The prince had been humming to himself as he put more vegetables into his stew, the cozy atmosphere of the kitchen keeping him at ease and more cheered up than he usually is. It had taken him months before getting used to living in the tower and making the place feel like a home, but deep down he knows nothing will compare to the warmth and love that has filled his kingdom.
The prince gently moves the girl so sits on a chair, he also puts her backpack as well as her bow and arrow out of reach from her so that she doesn’t put an arrow through him when she wakes up. He keeps the pot on one hand as the other moves the hair that had fallen over her unconscious face away from her eyes and- “Wow.” Harrison breathes out. The prince is sure he has never seen someone so beautiful.
He feels a nudge on his leg as his dog Chip sits on his side also assessing the intruder. The chocolate Labrador nudes his leg again, as if urging him to wake her up but Harrison pays him no mind. He isn’t sure what to say when she does wake, or what she’ll do when she figures out she knocked her out with a pot.
“She’s beautiful.” Stephen says, to which the rest of Harrison’s friends agree.
The prince nods in a daze as his eyes scan the intruder’s face. She has thick dark waves, her skinned is beautifully tanned and kind of freckly, he assumes she spends a lot of time in the sun. There is a line that’s starting to form between her eyebrows, like she furrows them a lot and her eyelashes are both long and dark and fan out above her cheeks. Just as the prince leans closer to her face, the girl wakes up with a start which startles him and makes him drop the pot while his hands catch fire for a second.
Harrison’s mind short-circuits for a moment. Purple eyes. She has purple eyes, and now she’s speaking, what is she saying?
She is furrowing her eyebrows at him. Harrison makes a mental note that he was right before about that as tilts her head in a questioning manner. Her gaze shifts from him to his hands. “Wow you must have hit me really hard on the head or did your hands really just catch fire?” She shakes her head soon after her question and scans her surrounding as she stands up. “You know what? I don’t have time for that. Thank you for hitting me in the head with your pot but I have something very important to do.”
She’s wearing dark green pants, a long shirt black and a wide brown belt that has small pockets here and there. Her clothes are mended in several places and her black boots are covered in so much mud they are practically brown. There are scrapes on her hands as well as multiple cuts and splinters, but Harrison can’t stare any longer because she’s side stepping him and heading for the kitchen.
He sees her spot her backpack where he had place it before, on the floor by the kitchen table and near Clemence to look after. “No, you can’t leave!” Harrison says trying to stop her, running to stand in front of the window.  “You have to help me.”
She looks over her shoulder at the prince, an amused smile appearing on her face before she speaks. “Not off to a good start with the whole asking for help thing. You did hit me in the head. Now, if you’ll excuse me.” As she reaches out for her backpack and arrows, Chip grabs them both and runs to the other side of the room. Daria then moves to stand in front of the open window to the right of the intruder.
“We can’t excuse you just yet, not until you’ve agreed to help him.” The oven says in its calm voice, trying to keep any conflict form escalating and hoping to convince the girl.
The intruder is confused for a second, but she shrugs her shoulders nonchalantly. “Surprisingly that’s not the strangest thing that’s happened to me,” She looks at Harrison. “Please tell the oven to move.”
“Her name is Daria.” The prince says approaching her.
The girl sighs in exasperation, rolling her eyes. “Okay Daria please move, I really need to get going, and dog give me back my backpack.” Her eyes land on Chip who is lounging comfortably on her belongings. Chip merely tilts his head at her in question, starting a staring contest of his own until Harrison speaks up once more and takes the stranger’s gaze away from his dog.
“His name is Chip, and I’m Harrison.” He extends his hand out at the girl for her to shake but she only nods in greeting and doesn’t disclose her name. His heartbeat picks up and there’s a feeling of dread swirling in his stomach. This is his only chance of getting out of the tower, of seeing his family again. He feels his eyes water at the thought of them, are they doing alright? Are they safe? And do they miss him just as much as he misses them?
“Please just hear me out, it’s kind of a long story but I’ll keep it short.” Harrison takes a step towards the stranger, knowing nothing about them but not caring. He feels something deep within him and it makes him trust her, he knows she’s who his fairy godmother meant when she told him someone would rescue him. This intruder with purple eyes might be his only hope.
Something changes in those purple eyes when she scans his face and her features soften the slightest bit. Her foot taps impatiently on the floor and she looks around as if assessing her options before huffing and nodding, She walks back to the chair where she was previously sitting and crosses her arms across her chest. “You’ve got 5 minutes.”

*Reuploaded FOR THE THIRD TIME because I realized that this never showed up in any of this fandom’s tags the first two times I posted it :/ Now I am trying this as a text post with images instead of a typical art post because nothing is freaking working and I am so frustrated.
Because read-mores apparently make my post glitchy, I apologize in advance for the length of this post, and hopefully, it doesn’t clog your dashes/the tags too badly.*
Another CatCF/WWatCF sketchdump~
The top drawing is the characters from the 1971 adaptation ten years later (which was an excuse to draw 80′s fashion, haha).
Ten years later doodles (from left to right) Top row: Violet and Veruca Second row: Mike, Charlie, and Augustus
(I think Violet turned out to be the best of these doodles!)
Some headcanons for the ten years later drawings (this would have been the section under the read-more, if it worked :/ ):
I always headcanoned the characters in the ‘71 version to be thirteen, minus Mike, who I saw as eleven. So basically everyone in the drawing is twenty-three except for Mike, who is twenty-one.
Violet: For years after the nightmare that was the factory tour, Violet struggled with major body image issues, especially about her blue skin. (And is homeschooled because of this.) However, eventually, her mindset basically became ‘Wonka thought this was a punishment? Fuck that; I’m going to embrace it’, so she became more confident.
Once this confidence hits during her late teens, she uses her unusual appearance to her advantage (especially when it comes to attracting visitors/potential buyers to her dad’s car dealership).
She doesn’t go to college; instead, she works at her dad’s place, and basically learns how to be a mechanic.
She hasn’t chewed gum since the factory tour.
When Charlie contacts her and the others, she is hesitant to respond back, but ultimately does (to sass him, at the very least). During the group’s future meetups, she’s basically the glue that keeps them together.
Veruca: Unlike Violet, Veruca carries a lot of guilt about what happened during the factory tour, since her father was punished along with her. He fell wrong, and as a result, was paralyzed from the waist down, and is now in a wheelchair. Veruca was lucky; aside from a broken ankle, she did not suffer any worse injuries.
Because of this, Veruca becomes mute (her mouthing off and constantly asking for things is what led to her–pun not intended–downfall, so she decides that it would be for the best if she stops talking altogether.)
Despite the Salts being wealthy, Wonka paid all of their medical bills. Even though it would have made sense for them to take him to trial, they decided not to (Henry did not want anyone to see him in his new state, and Veruca’s anxiety spiked even thinking about the factory).
When Charlie contacts the four ‘rejects’ ten years after the tour, Violet starts to bring Veruca out of her shell. Though it is ultimately Augustus who helps her feel comfortable speaking again, due to his soft-spoken personality.)
Mike: Like the others, Mike was very traumatized by what happened to him during the tour. (Especially since he was younger than the rest of them.)
While Violet embraced her altered state, and Veruca withdrew from the world, Mike became bitter. Very bitter. Because, while sure, Wonka and co. were able to get him back to about normal size [after stretching him waaaay too tall and thin the first time; his mother fainted, then had plenty of choice words for everyone involved when she came to], the process was incredibly painful, and involved basically rubber-fying his bones and muscles temporarily (yeah, he still had no idea why Wonka would even create a candy that did that).
Because of that, he has scars all over his body–the most on his arms, legs, and torso–so he always wears long-sleeved shirts or jackets, and long pants.
He is pissed that his life was ruined at age eleven; sure, he was obnoxious, but he was a KID. Now he’s stuck with chronic pain, not to mention the occasional breakdown because he has no idea if he’s actually HIM, or just a copy that was beamed through Wonka’s television room that managed to keep his soul. (Yeah, he doesn’t like to dwell on that; he prefers to think that that would be impossible.) [A/N: That part comes from the fact that Wonka stated that the chocolate that appeared in the TV screen was a copy of the much larger chocolate bar that was beamed through the air, and not the original bar itself]
When Charlie contacts him, he almost sends a nasty letter back, but something in him pauses, and he ends up sending a civilized response. It wasn’t Charlie’s fault all this happened to him; Charlie was the nice one, and, though he would never admit it to anyone, on the tour, he thought Charlie was cool. Goody-two-shoes, but in the ‘Lovable TV Protagonist’ sort of way.
As the five of them start meeting/corresponding through letters, he lets Charlie past all the walls he put up, and is definitely the closest to him in the group.
Charlie: Happily becomes Wonka’s protege after the tour. He is ecstatic that he not only gets to live and learn to work in this magical place, but he and his family are finally out of poverty!
He goes to school during the day, then learns the tricks of the candy trade in the afternoons and evenings.
However, about ten years after winning the tour, Wonka just…vanishes. And that’s when Charlie finds the videos showcasing what happened to the other four Golden Ticket winners after their mishaps.
Charlie is appalled; looking back, they were all so young. Of course, they were bratty; that’s how kids ARE. (Sure, some of them were worse than others, but they didn’t deserve their fates! Essentially, the four ‘losers’, plus Mr. Salt, were toyed with and tortured, and their parents could not help them.) Mike’s was especially horrible, to him; it was the only tape he couldn’t finish.
This makes Charlie feel a little guilty; he got off easy, even though he also disobeyed the rules.
He is also torn; on the one hand, Wonka was a great mentor, and he was fond of the man–he made a good father-figure, for him. But on the other hand, this was a man who thought the way to get rid of a kid’s bad habits was to torture them.
Before he could think otherwise, Charlie writes letters to the other Golden Ticket winners. He doesn’t expect anything nice back, but is surprised to find that they are all willing to talk to him.
He is relieved; he wants to right the wrongs done to them.
Augustus: The poor guy falls into a deep depression after the tour. Sure, he was thinner, but he had no problem with how he looked before. Not to mention, even the smell of chocolate and other sugary sweets makes him very nauseous. Oh, and there’s the not-so-small fear of drowning that he picked up, as well as severe claustrophobia.
He felt like a part of him was lost, since he could no longer enjoy his favorite foods. Or food in general. He ate to not starve, but that was it.
He was already quiet, but after the tour, he withdrew into himself even more, preferring to spend time with the neighborhood cats rather than people. (Yes, he is definitely a cat person.)
But he still has his kind heart, so when Charlie Bucket sends him a letter, he responds right away (and is the first one to do so).
When they start writing more letters to each other, and eventually meeting, he helps the others through their trauma, while ignoring his own. He thinks he’ll always be stuck this way.
Veruca disagrees.
And in terms of schooling, only Augustus went to college. As for high school, Violet and Mike were homeschooled, Veruca went to an exclusive, posh academy, Charlie stuck with public school, and Augustus went to a private school.
-
Now, if anyone was interested, these are the outfits that inspired the ones I drew (though, obviously, I took artistic liberties with some of them). I wanted to give them each a different style: Violet’s is the outlandish fashion the 80s are famous for, Veruca’s is demure and preppy, Mike’s is pretty unassuming, but with a slight edge, Charlie’s is comfortable/casual, and Augustus’s is comfortable/slightly formal.
Left to right: Violet, Veruca, Mike, Charlie, Augustus
Tumblr media
(And I imagine the back of Mike’s jacket looking like this, aka with a vent, which is why the back of the jacket isn’t visible in the gap of his legs):
Tumblr media
WOW, that got so long (oops…), but those were just my ideas for how these characters would interact and act ten years later. Hopefully someone enjoys this, XD

Requested: Yup
Request: Twice reaction where they go to the beach for the first time with their love one
a/u: Hey, guys! So I wrote this on a plane, and that’s they these are pretty short (and kinda bad). But I’m in Hawaii right now (so I thought this would be fitting) and I sincerely hope to post more quality things soon. Thank you guys so much for all the love and support!

Nayeon
“Real mature, Im.”
Nayeon had finally gotten the time off and couldn’t wait to spend it with you. Even if it meant pushing you into the waves. You and Nayeon had never been to the beach together, so today would be a big step in your guy’s relationship. The wind whipped at Nayeon’s hair as you held her hand, the cold water pooling at your waist. “Y/N I don’t know how to swim.” You shrugged, “That’s okay, we can just stay here.” The two of you played around for a bit before Nayeon suddenly screamed, you turned to her quickly just before she jumped on you. Causing you to lose your balance and fall back into the water. You got up and shook your head trying to clear the water in your nose as you looked at a sheepish Nayeon, “What was that for?” Nayeon let out a shy laugh as she held up a piece of seaweed, “Oops.”
Tumblr media
Jeongyeon
“Don’t be afraid. It’s a bucket-list for a reason.”
It was early in the morning when Jeongyeon pulled you out of bed to get to the beach. But as soon as she saw all the people, you could see the nervousness in her eyes. Jeong’s hand began to shake slightly as you gripped it tighter pulling her to face you, “You’re gonna be okay, Jagi. You’re beautiful as it is, but I’m not pushing you.” Jeongyeon sighed as she looked down at the long t-shirt covering her bikini, “I don’t know why I’m scared? I want to do this.” You gave her a small smile, “I mean, it is a bucket list for a reason.” Jeong nodded as she slowly brought her hands to the bottom of the t-shirt, “Here goes nothing.” The second the shirt came off your mouth fell open, your girlfriend looked amazing, “What did I tell you? Your beautiful and remind me to thank Jihyo later.” You smirked as Jeongyeon shoved you, “Pabo.”
Tumblr media
Momo
“No. The seagulls did not eat your food.”
Food, Momo, and Seagulls. Three things that should probably never be in a sentence together. The two of you had planned for a nice picnic at the beach, but unfortunately Mother Nature seemed to have other plans as you and Momo began to eat. You watched from the corner of your eye as seagulls started to circle the two of you were quick to finish as Momo ran off, leaving you to find for yourself. They eventually got too close for comfort as you started throwing food in their direction, and by the time Momo came back your basket was empty. “Y/N! The seagulls ate our food!” You sighed as you laid on the sand, “It’s not my fault.” Momo looked at you in confusion, “What’s not your fault?” You curled up into a ball, “The seagulls won.” Your girlfriend’s eyes went wide, “The seagulls did what!?”
Tumblr media
Sana
“Who said we were too old for sandcastles?”
Sana held your hand as she weaves the two of you around the beach. Avoiding the sandcastles the children around you had made. “I wish I want too old for that.” You looked at your girlfriend in confusion, “Too old for what?” Sana pointed at a girl playing in the sand, “To build sandcastles.” You gasped as you grabbed Sana’s hand, running to an open part of the beach, “You’re never too old to build castles.” Sana smiled as you began to pile sand together, building up a base and towers, “What did I tell you? Is it to your liking Queen Sana?” Your girlfriend laughed as she brought you into a kiss, “As long as you can rule with me Y/N-ah.”
Tumblr media
Jihyo
“Are we written in the stars, baby, or are we written in the sand?”
The way the moon reflected off the ocean was beautiful. But so was the way Jihyo looked in the light of the stars. The waves lapped at your guy’s feet as you walked along the sand, your eyes trailing the footsteps the two of you left in the sand as it was washed away by the tide; you sighed as your eyes made their way to the stars then to Jihyo. “What wrong?” Jihyo didn’t even need to turn to know the look on your face. “Nothing. I’m just...thinking.” Your girlfriend walked closer, your shoulder brushing, “About?” You shrugged, “Us.” She stopped as she turned to face you, “Why?” You gave her a small smile, “I know it’s stupid to think this, but do you think we’re written in the stars or are we written in the sand.” Jihyo looked at you for a moment then laughed, “What do you think?” You blinked before you answered, “The stars.” She smiled as she kissed you, “Me too.”
Tumblr media
Mina
“But, I can't swim.”
Water was never your strong suit. But somehow Mina convinced you into it. You shook your head as you stayed in waist deep water, “No. I am not going in there.” Mina gave you puppy eyes as she pouted, “Why not?” You took breath, “Because I can’t swim, Minari.” Without missing a beat the Japanese girl smiled, “That’s no problem. I can teach you.” You raised an eyebrow at her, “Are you sure?” Mina nodded and smiled as she grabbed your hand, “Of course, Jagi! Penguin school is now in session.” You let out a laugh as you kissed her cheek, “Aish. How is it possible for a person to this adorable.”
Tumblr media
Dahyun
“Polo!”
You had never been to the beach with Dahyun. So naturally, Marco Polo was the best course of action. You put a hand over your mouth to stifle your laughter as Dahyun swam towards you, “Marco!” You dogged your girlfriend before responding, “Polo!” You watched in amusement as Dahyun walked aimlessly, you didn’t see the wave coming for your girlfriend until it was too late. Before you could say a word Dahyun yelped as she was knocked into the water, you laughed as she came up, her face was the look of someone who was completely done with everything, “A warning would have been nice, Y/N.” You smirked, “But I love getting you wet.” Dahyun gasped as she splashed water into your face, “You’re sleeping on the couch.”
Tumblr media
Chaeyoung
“I’m sorry about the rain.”
Today was supposed to be perfect. Too bad the weather report wasn’t. It had been five minutes before the rain started coming down, and you and Chae fled to your car, “Well this sucks.” You huffed as you sat back in the driver’s seat, Chaeng gave you a small smile, her dimple showing, “It’s alright, the rain is nice too.” You shook your head, “You’re just saying that because you’re my girlfriend. I should have planned better.” Chaeyoung rolled her eyes as she smiled at you, “No, since I’m your girlfriend I have the right to tell you if something sucks, and this doesn’t. We just have to make the best of it.” You nodded as you got an idea, rushing out of the car and opening your trunk as you folded down the seats and set out a blanket. Chae smiled as the two of you sat in the back watching the ocean and the rain. “See. Making the best of what you got.” You smiled as you kissed Chaeyoung, “How did I ever get so lucky to have the best girlfriend in the universe.”
Tumblr media
Tzuyu
“See! Even Gucci loves the water.”
You knew Tzuyu wasn’t the biggest fan of water. But that didn’t seem to stop Gucci. You and Tzuyu has taken time off to visit her parents in Taiwan and it so happened that Gucci really liked the beach. You smiled as you and the little dog swam in the water Gucci paddling beside you as you watched your girlfriend on the beach. “Come on Tzumong. It’s not that bad.” Tzuyu crossed her arms, “Yes it is!” You crossed your arms as well, “Gucci, even likes the water.” You pointed to the small dog beside you, happily paddling along the water; but your girlfriend just shook her head, “He’s a dog.” You shot back, “And you’re a person. Fine.” You picked Gucci up into your arms and walked toward your girlfriend and his owner, “What if we do it together?” You held out your hand as Tzuyu took it, taking a step into the water, “See. Not so bad.” Tzuyu kissed your cheek and Gucci’s, “That’s because I have the two people I love the most in the world with me.”

“Fuck, you’re big,” Luke whined desperately.
It was basic, but the quovroli seemed to like it anyway, grunting proudly as they fucked Luke into the bed. They panted, showing off wickedly sharp teeth and a pointed tongue. Luke could feel their hot breath on his chest, their claws on his thighs, and if he’d known the fear of being eaten by a client was this fucking good, he would have offered his services to quovroli a long time ago.
Even without the unfortunate reputation the human meat trade gave them, this quovroli was a surprisingly good fuck. Luke had had his fair share of prehensile dicks and aphrodisiac cum, but there was a simplicity in just getting fucked hard that he liked.
The quovroli’s grip on his thighs tightened, claws digging in painfully. Luke gasped and let go of the bedsheets to jerk himself off. He vaguely thought that he should remind the quovroli to be gentler, but he was so close.
As he came, so did the quovroli, growling and shoving into him one last time. Panting, Luke felt the whitenoise slowly fade from his head and he watched them pull out, realising that he was bleeding where their claws had been holding him. Oops.
The quovroli leaned down and Luke watched with bated breath as they drew their tongue up his inner thigh, along the wounds their claws had left.
“Relax,” they laughed as they straightened up, “I’m not gonna eat you. Just wanna know what you taste like.”
Luke exhaled and sat up, pulling his pearlescent white shirt back onto his shoulders and doing up two buttons. His wristcom, a sleek silver band he’d treated himself to when his old one finally kicked the bucket, beeped with the credit transfer tone and he checked it to see the rest of the quovroli’s payment and a surprisingly good rating, given that Luke had mostly just laid there while the quovroli did all the actual work. They must have appreciated the post-orgasm snack.
“I’ll be back,” the quovroli promised, eyeing the mess between Luke’s legs satisfactorily.
“Anytime.”
As they left, Luke got up and smoothed out his skirt. It would need a clean, but would be fine until he got home. He’d be wearing his coat over the top of it anyway, so it wasn’t like anyone would notice anything they couldn’t smell already.
Once he’d cleaned up a bit, Luke let his human friend, Calummintha, know that he was on his way home. Calum tended to worry for his safety, which made Luke feel just a little bit guilty about some of the clients he chose, but he liked the element of danger too much to stop allowing them.
Calum replied that he’d meet him on the way there and Luke headed out. He found Calum at the marketplace they often frequented, snacking on something smoky-smelling as he waited.
“How was work?” Calum asked, eyes falling and widening, “Shit, are you okay?”
Luke looked where Calum was staring, at the blood running down his legs.
Luke groaned and lifted his coat and skirt just enough to see the wounds. “Shit.”
They were deeper than he’d thought. Probably still not enough to be dangerous, but they weren’t going to close on their own.
“I was gonna clean them up when I got home…”
“Luke,” Calum snapped, “What the fuck happened?”
“Are you okay?” someone else asked.
Luke looked up at the gleth that had stopped to stare. Even being over a head taller than Calum, he still didn’t match the height of any mature gleth.
He lowered his skirt. “Yeah, they’re not as bad as they look. I can close them at home.”
“They should be checked for infection,” the gleth fretted, “I have specialised equipment for humans at base camp.”
Luke shared a look with Calum. Normally he wouldn’t go to a client’s home, but it might be okay if Calum stayed with him. If this gleth really did just wanna help, Luke could possibly get a lot of credits out of them and whoever else was at their base camp. Hopefully they had plenty of Storm so he wouldn’t get tired.
“Okay.”
The gleth’s antennae lifted happily. “I’m Kakkin. What are your names?”
“I’m Tekka.” Luke never gave clients his real name.
“Daxun,” Calum said, apparently coming up with a fake name on the spot.
Although Luke was willing to walk, Kakkin looked scandalised by the suggestion and begged to be allowed to carry him there. Luke immediately switched into poor injured human mode and said that he was feeling lightheaded from seeing all that scary blood. Although Calum rolled his eyes hard, Luke would play into whoever Kakkin wanted him to be and he had to admit that he liked that they kept patting his head and telling him it was gonna be okay as they headed for their base camp.
Their camp was only a few corridors away from the marketplace, what looked like a collection of life pods surrounded by temporary fencing with some kind of logo printed on it, though the pods were in much better condition than the run-down one Luke and Calum lived in.
“Guards?” Calum observed as they passed the two armed gleth at the gate.
“Zsashos V is a bit… infamous,” Kakkin explained apologetically.
They took Luke and Calum to a large medical pod with green crescents printed on the walls and Luke stared as they went in. A human was inside, cleanly dressed and watching them expectantly. At least three more were lying half submerged in tanks full of greenish liquid on the far corner, making for more humans than Luke had ever seen in one place in his life.
“This is Tekka,” Kakkin told the conscious human as they took Luke to an examination table, and gently set him down, “His legs are bleeding, poor thing. Not badly, but the wounds looked deep.”
“I’m Athiid,” the human told Luke and Calum as she took some insanely clean medical stuff from a shelf.
“Could you open your legs, please?” Kakkin asked, pulling gloves onto two of their hands.
Luke obliged.
Kakkin lifted his skirt enough to see the goods. “Your clothes may get in the way. Would you like some clean undergarments to cover yourself with?”
“That’s okay,” Luke replied as he hopped off the table, unzipped his skirt and pushed it to the floor, giving his freed tail a seductive wiggle.
Calum rolled his eyes.
Kakkin helped Luke back onto the table and used a wet cloth Athiid had brought over in a bowl to dab around the claw wounds. “Can you tell me what made these?”
“Quovroli client.”
Calum frowned deeply.
“They weren’t trying to hurt me,” Luke rushed, “We just got kinda carried away.”
“You’re a hybrid human?” Athiid asked, tapping at a tablet she’d set on the exam table.
“Yeah. Gleth-augmented.”
“And you do sex work?”
“Yeah.”
She nodded. “We’ll check for damage and run some infection tests along with genetics.”
“Oh, I test myself at least every rotation,” Luke assured her, but she was already moving on.
“What about you?” she asked Calum.
Calum answered her questions as Kakkin cleaned and sealed Luke’s wounds. When they were done, they told them to wait while they prepared the tests.
“If you start fucking anyone, I’m leaving,” Calum threatened quietly as Luke pulled on the clothes Kakkin had left him. They were much cleaner than anything he’d ever worn before, even though he took a lot of care in keeping his work clothes tidy.
“I don’t think they want to,” Luke said with a pout, wandering towards the humans in the corner, “Looks like they actually do just wanna help.”
“They could be working for a kitchen,” Calum said lowly, “Speaking of which, why the fuck did you take a quovroli client?”
Luke rolled his eyes, then gasped. “Mikey!” He ran to the nearest tank and stared at the human lying there.
There was a mask with a bunch of tubes attached to machines over his mouth and nose, bandages covered half of his face and it had been longer than Luke could remember, but it was definitely Michael.
“You know that human?” Athiid asked, hurrying over.
“His name’s Yovamaikle.” Luke looked down at his legs. His thighs were almost bone-thin and there was skin missing around the middle of them, almost like a messy strip had been dissolved away, exposing what remained of the muscle underneath. “What happened to him?”
“These three were found in a quovroli kitchen. They were being kept in cloning tanks.”
So it wasn’t just his legs and face. They could have been cutting away and regrowing pieces of him this whole time and Luke had had no idea.
“Luke,” Calum said gently.
“I thought he was dead,” Luke choked out, gripping the edge of the tank.
“We found him,” Athiid assured him, “And he’s doing very well now. How long has he been missing?”
“I don’t know, since we were kids,” Luke told her, tears spilling over.
“He could have memory problems when he wakes up,” Athiid said gently, “But if you knew him and want to assist with his recovery, seeing and talking to you may help.”
“How long will it take?” Luke asked her.
“To fully get his memory back? Could be the rest of his life, if ever.”
Luke sobbed.
“We can get him walking again, though,” she told him, “And we can take all of you to a sanctuary on a gleth planet. You can spend as much time as you need helping him heal and remember there.”
Calum put an arm around Luke. “We’ll think about,” he promised, “This is a lot, though.”
“There’s plenty of time,” Athiid told them as she turned to leave, “If he wants to stay here, we’ll stick around until he’s well enough to survive on his own.”
Luke mashed at his eyes with his palms. “I thought he was dead.”
“Me too,” Calum said quietly as Luke bent down to bury his face in his shoulder, “We’re gonna help him, though, yeah? As much as we can.”
Nodding, Luke peered at Michael again. “Is he gonna remember us?”
Calum squeezed him tighter. “We’ll find out when he wakes up.”

Cú Chulainn(s) + Dogs Headcannons
All Cús would pet and care for any type of dog
Alter likes labs the best. The first time he met some, they would roll on their stomachs and look at him with the biggest eyes they could muster
He always gives in
Jeanne and Diarmuid often report seeing Alter go off into a Singularity, not knowing what he was doing and making theories behind it
"Maybe he's a gourmet chef and doesn't want anyone to know about it!"
"...Even I don't think that's the case, Jeanne..."
Fsn Cú is a fan of bloodhounds and golden retrievers and has the most dogs out of all of the Cús
Actually, place any big floofy doggo in front of him and he'll paw-sitively melt at the sight of them
Emiya thinks it's cute
Fsn Cú often brings frisbees, squeaky toys, and dog bones to them and watches them go at it. When they want him to join, he play-wrestles with them and cannot stop grinning for the rest of the day
The bloodhounds help him hunt some boars and even wyverns and he always rewards them with treats
The treats also go to the other dogs when they give him The Look
Proto Cú loves wolves and, like Alter, has a soft spot for labs
A black lab named Bucky is his partner-in-crime and will stick up for Proto without fail
Proto likes to sunbathe with Bucky and happened to stumble across Cascú's wolves one day while doing so
The wolves immediately took a liking to them and are often seen playing with Bucky
Cascú stumbles upon the four of them napping in an open field under the gentle rays of the sun
Cascú's dogs are - you guessed it - wolves. Although, a Pomeranian happens to stick to his side like glue and only deviates to receive pats from Proto Cú
Cascú makes sure that they never run out of food to eat. He also makes sure that they get outside at least thrice a day, supervising the trio to make sure none wander off
Imagine his surprise when he finds his younger counterpart with this wolves, a black lab napping by his side
The Pomeranian - named Aimilios by Asterios - trots up to them and curls by Proto's free side
"You're here, too?"
"...Yeah. Didn't know that you had a lab."
"Didn't know that you had wolves and this little guy. Even though hunting dogs are the way to go...I wouldn't trade Bucky for the world."
Cascú peers at Proto. "...Winter Soldier?"
Proto's face taking on a pink hue is the only answer he needs.
"Ooh, look at these beautiful lads!"
To be honest, Fsn Cú's sudden voice made both of them jump.
Alter sits down next to Aimilios, face scrunching as one of Cú's bloodhounds cheerfully licked his cheek. "Is this all of them?"
Cascú grins. It seemed like Alter already knew that they all had a dog or two. "Should be."
"Eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve." Fsn Cú counts, chuckling as the last dog headbutts his hand. "Yep, all here!"
"Oi," Proto Cú complains without any real heat in his voice, Bucky perking up next to him at the smell of unfamiliar dogs. "I'm trying to nap here!"
"Then nap." Alter responded bluntly, Aimilios hopping into his lap as a chocolate lab (named Maple, although he'd never admit that it was his idea to name her that) curls up next to him. Cascú and Fsn Cú laugh as Proto pouts, the youngest of the group turning on his side so that his cheek brushed against the fur of one of Cascú's wolves.
Fsn Cú plops down and lets his dogs smother him. "Aren't you gonna sit down?"
Cascú knows he should. He knows that he needs a break, knows that there are bags under his eyes, knows that he's gone over 56 hours without rest, and knows that he's been working nonstop on his rune craft, but if he stops then he'll fall behind firepower-wise compared to the other Cús -
"Caster!" Proto Cú calls out. Cascú's head whips up, seeing that the other three are actively watching him now. He can feel the exhaustion sapping his strength to even properly stand; to cover it up, he lets his wolves divide him from the others as he rests his back against their fur.
He hears Fsn Cú huff in exasperation. "Over here, dumbass!"
Cascú can't even stand up. "Nah; I'm good here. Don't gotta see your faces - "
In a flash, Alter lands in front of him with Aimilios in hand. Cascú is shocked into near-silence; he doesn't even react when Fsn Cú and Proto Cú quickly follow Alter, Fsn Cú's expression holding an uncharacteristic amount of seriousness in it.
"Stand up."
This time, Cascú is quick to respond. "Pass."
Fsn Cú gives one look at Proto, and the next thing Cascú knows is that the two Lancers are pulling him to his feet.
"W-Wait - "
Cascú would've fell flat on his face if it wasn't for Fsn Cú's foresight and Proto Cú's reflexes. Fsn Cú hoisted the Caster over his shoulder, ignoring his protests as he kept walking. Proto Cú was about to follow when Alter's hand on his head stopped him. The Berserker nodded his head towards the literal dog pile and Proto Cú let out a sigh.
"...Okay."
Cascú is silent for the majority of their trek towards...well, he didn't know. "I am very close to hitting you with my staff."
Fsn Cú is unfazed, eyes forward despite feeling the glare from his Caster counterpart. "We're almost there. It should be right around here...a-ha!"
Caster could only see the road behind them. "What is it?" He grumbles, only for his eyes to widen when he's set down on hard wood and a fishing rod is thrust into his face.
Fsn Cú finally grins. "We're going fishing."
An hour passes with no bites. Cascú sighs, and wishes that at least his wolves were there to keep him company. Even though his Lancer counterparts were able to strike up amicable conversation with just about anyone, he preferred non-human companionship. Animals don't talk your ear off; they understand when you need space, and also make it clear when they themselves need it.
"So," Fsn Cú says as birds soar overhead, "mind telling me what the hell all that was about back there?"
"I wanted to rest, and yet you brought me here to fish." Caster replies, deflecting a direct answer. "Not that I'm complaining, though. I would've brought my own rod and my bucket if I knew beforehand."
Fsn Cú frowns disapprovingly, and Cascú vaguely feels like a scolded child. "You're always on our younger counterpart's case about getting enough rest. Why aren't you doing the same?"
Cascú's smile is tired. "I can't. You of all people should know why."
The Lancer sighs. "That doesn't make it any less right."
Cascú takes in a breath, and hesitates. How was he going to tell the Lancer that the issue that plagues Proto Cú is the same one as his own? The problem should be resolved, and yet he can't get over it -
Something nudged his arm. Cascú looks down to see Aimilios staring up at him, a certain black lab not too far behind as his wolves encircle him before settling down.
"You guys are fishing without us?!" Proto Cú's voice reaches them, the youngest Chulainn waving from his spot on Alter's shoulders as the Berserker carries two rods in his free hand. It amazes Cascú sometimes that the two are as thick as thieves; at first glance, their personalities wouldn't match up.
"Figured that we'd try our Luck before the bad luck charms showed up." Fsn jokes, and Alter growls in disdain as he set up their stations.
"Dogs and wolves got restless." He instead explains, and Cascú nods.
Thus, the four accumulate 14 fish between them in the span of 3 hours. Cascú feels a yawn coming, but the feeling of three gazes on him has the druid looking up.
"Why don't you get enough rest?" Proto tries, and Cascú feels like laughing because for as long as he's been summoned this was his system so he's used to it. Why was he burning out now, of all times?
Oops, that one slipped through. Cascú watches as Proto Cú's face falls, and internally kicks himself. Fsn Cú and Alter both look exasperated, and he briefly wonders if that's what he looked like to them whenever they did something stupid.
A push. The rod falls out of Cascú's hands as the druid was forced to lay against one of his wolves, another hand placing itself over his eyes and obscuring his vision.
"You're always watching out for the younger Servants in Chaldea." Fsn Cú says in a gentler tone than normal. Cascú feels a weight lean on both sides of him, Proto Cú's surprisingly fluffy hair tickling his cheek as Alter shifts so that his spikes aren't in danger of piercing both him and his wolves.
Fsn Cú's voice draws his attention again. "It's time someone looked after you for a change, after all. Leave it to us!"
...Oh. Cascú pulls his hood over his face to hide his warm and now wet cheeks, a slight smile on his face. Maybe...I can let myself rest, for a change.
