“When you come home, promise you’ll stay here! I didn’t mean to push you away, I swear things will be different! Promise me Luz, please!”
“Promise me, when you come home, you’ll stay with me, and you’ll never go back to that place! Please!”
Tumblr media
“To you who stray so far from home, to me who’s trapped beneath these bones! We’ll play forever me and you, when you paint the land in nine bright hues!”
“Let’s slash and rend and crush and bruise, let’s curse the land in nine bright hues!”
-
...It’s fascinating how Season 2B has really set up Luz as kind of an unreliable narrator, but not in a malicious and egotistical way like Philip or other colonizers. She remembers things as worse than they are due to a severe sense of RSD, and constantly blaming herself for things; So Luz interprets things as worse than they are, interprets the Collector’s rhyme as much more negative, since it’s her fault Belos got his disk.
I’ve speculated before on how the three seasons, if gone to plan, would each reflect a member of the core trio; S1 for Eda, S2 for King, and eventually S3 for Luz! What with Season 3 originally slated to have her quincenera, perhaps it would’ve delved into Luz’s past and traumatic experiences... Only to reveal it wasn’t always as bad as she remembered; Her RSD just made Luz misinterpret things in the worst way possible.
This all feels like setup for a probably-cancelled (because of Disney) exploration of Luz’s psyche, and how she really has to confront her own RSD as actively gaslighting herself. That isn’t to say there weren’t any issues back home or with her mother, with the Collector, etc.; But as Vee’s tarot friend predicted, it’s all led to Luz and this self-fulfilling prophecy, where her trauma causes her to carry out what she thinks is inevitable.
That in turn becomes a cycle that further sabotages whatever Luz could’ve had back home, incentivizing her to label it a lost cause and move to the isles, only to almost ruin things there as well; The first few failures were real rejections, but the rest weren’t going to be and that’s the tragedy of the assumption! Luz constantly trying again would’ve eventually worked and paid off, and it did in the Demon Realm, but Luz needs to know it would’ve happened back home as well!
That belief it’ll happen anyway and just getting something over with that wasn’t going to happen; It’s kinda like Philip’s obsession with predestination, believing each Golden Guard will betray him as they always do, as his brother did; But again, actually sympathetic. Luz had bad experiences confessing to her crush, so she assumes Amity will also reject her, and rushes to destroy the tunnel of love; Only to realize she fulfilled the disaster she hoped to avoid! Luz WAS part of a self-feeding time loop after all...
But yeah, I think the show probably planned to discuss Luz’s feelings; How her pain is valid, but she also needs to strike a healthy balance and recognize when things aren’t actually that way; Luz has to eventually tell her emotions to shut up and not take everything personally for a pity party, and instead focus on fixing things while still giving herself time to breathe. She shouldn’t manufacture a version of people in her head that doesn’t actually exist; Luz needs to really get her hold and grip on reality, or else it WILL lead to misconceptions and resentment that cause pain and trouble for herself and others.
Plus, realizing her home wasn’t so bad, just as the reality camp wasn’t... While Luz’s issues are valid, it’d also give Luz more of an appreciation in hindsight for Gravesfield, and hope; It wasn’t as terrible as it was. It sucked but it’s still salvageable, Luz can still make it work, as she can with Camila; And she has something back in THIS home of hers, as she does in the Demon Realm. And Luz can balance the best of both worlds; She can now re-engage with her past in a healthy manner to properly resolve what she left behind, and realize people didn’t hate her that much; There’s still room for Luz in the human world!

Loki Season 2 Doesn't Understand Loki
The fundamental flaw in a season that means nothing
Tumblr media
Spoilers below.
I think we need to talk about Loki.
People who know me know that I don’t like superhero and comic book movies. I love them. And that’s why I’m so critical of them. I can blame my brother on getting me into comics in high school, but the fact that long after that I keep coming back to the well speaks to what I love about them. Comics are the blending of prose and visual artistry, of character and medium. Every comic is a conversation between artists. Television and film, likewise, are another variation on that same theme.
However, like any other kind of media, its greatest strengths can also fall victim to their greatest enemy: the companies that own them.
Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe began as a simple concept: translate the idea of comic book universes onto the big screen. Let the comic company own the movies that bring their stories to the masses. When Disney bought Marvel, lock stock and barrel, it also brought truckloads of cash and prestige with it. This proved to be a Faustian bargain in the end, because what happens when the infinite money machine begins to grow too large to handle? Things begin to break down.
Loki Season 2 is this metaphor brought to life.
Everything Will Be The Same Ever Again
The first season ended promisingly enough. Loki and his alternate timeline gender swapped variant Sophie finally find He Who Remains, the man behind the curtains that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building up to. He’s the one who pulls the strings, paves the road, and decides the Sacred Timeline ™—in other words, this is the man who decides Marvel Canon.
Season 1 ended exactly as I hoped it would: Sophie, tired of being controlled, did the thing that gods of mischief and chaos are supposed to do. She killed the man behind the curtain. In so doing, she unspooled the Sacred Timeline ™ in the name of free will, allowing for infinite universes to be borne from the infinite choices made every moment by every being in existence. She gave birth to the multiverse. She broke the system.
Obviously, this could not last.
Loki season 1 promised that the universe would be forever altered by the actions of Loki and Sophie, and for a while, this seemed to be the case. Most of the recent phase of Marvel output has revolved, for better or worse, with the introduction of the concept of multiple realities. This has been used somewhat as more or less a vehicle for Brand Integration ™ and less as a vehicle for, you know, good storytelling. Yes, we’ve been promised Fantastic Four and X-men movies, but those aren’t even really in the works currently. They’ve been stuck in development hell for years since acquisition. All we’ve gotten is a couple of winks and nods, a musical sting, and N’amor, which all things being fair, was great, but N’amor has always been his own thing and a mutant in name only, story-wise. Otherwise, it’s been fine, but far from the promised chaos that Loki season 1 alluded to.
Additionally, there’s the problem of character. Loki in mythology is less a villain but more of an antagonist, a trickster character that causes problems and meddles in the affairs of others for little reason else besides “he wanted to.” He’s mercurial by nature, and that works very, very well for mythology. It works for the purposes of “this is how the world is, this is why things are the way they are, and this is how the world will end.” Loki’s presence is not malevolent, but rather genuinely chaotic. He will do what he wants, and usually only to satisfy himself. He often seems unable to really control himself, let alone anyone else. He does things because he loves just making things happen, and if he winds up with what he wants, it’s all the better.
In the comics and the films, he’s much more cast as a villain. In the films, he desires the throne of Asgard, to be the rightful ruler of people. Failing to win Asgard, he seeks out Earth as an agent of Thanos. Failing that, he meanders long enough in the background to have fun when dealing with Thor, and that’s about it. He finally dies an ignoble death by Thanos, and that was to be the end of him. Loki the TV series is not the same Loki we saw die. This Loki is an alternate timeline variant, and after having his ego broken by the Time Variance Authority, he seeks out another variant, Sophie, who has been causing problems for the TVA.
If all that gives you a bit of a headache, don’t worry. That’s just the comic fan experience. Comics, and superhero stories, are of a kindred spirit with Soap Operas: not only are they highly melodramatic, often made up on the fly, and filled with colorful characters, but they’re also designed to go on FOREVER. That’s the beauty of them. The characters, and the universe, frequently default to a certain status quo. Sure, every few years, something comes along that promises to Change the Universe Forever, but that often amounts to one weird tweak and then it's back to the races as usual. The bad guy comes along to challenge the hero, hero must thwart whatever plan the villain has, and all is well. That’s the rhythm of the comic book story, and that works quite well for executives... to a point. So, what happens when people start to get tired of the same old story? They change the status quo on paper, and hope nobody notices that the structure of it all is still intact.
That was the promise of Loki Season 1. See? We have a multiverse now! Please, be distracted by this CHAOS long enough to not realize that we are still in control of everything, and everything is fine.
That last sentence? That’s the plot of season 2. See, Sophie killed He Who Remains, and the multiverse exists. The TVA is designed by HWR to maintain the Sacred Timeline ™. With the Sacred Timeline ™ now in chaos, everything in the universe is going haywire. That means timelines are unraveling. The plot now follows Loki, his hetero life mate Mobius, and a cast of fun, colorful characters, racing against time to keep time from unspooling, and the multiverse from completely falling apart.
Mr. Loki’s Wild Ride
“Loki” is a show meant to turn Loki from the god of mischief and chaos to... a hero, somehow. One who wants to fight to maintain an autocratic, bureaucratic organization that wasn’t very good at its job in the first place because the alternative is... chaos. According to the plot, this chaos takes the form of nothingness. Lack of existence. See, without an imposed order, nothing can exist! Therefore, reality NEEDS someone or some entity to maintain order in some way so that everything can keep on existing.
But why is this the case? Why does reality need a temporal loom or a man behind the curtain? The show doesn’t do a very good job of explaining why everything ceases to exist the moment that the Temporal Loom, the machine that maintains the Sacred Timeline ™ other than “that’s just how it all works,” and really, it doesn’t even tell us that. It just shows time unraveling, sans explanation. How did time exist before the Temporal Loom, you ask? Loki, for all its technobabble and endlessly recurrent exposition, is not actually interested in explaining that bit. You see, it was chaos and war and death before, or it’s nothingness. Which is it? Why is it? It’s a nihilistic and frustrating bit of worldbuilding that leads to nothing.
This nihilism is a kind of narrative reinforcement technique. By the end of it, Loki has figured out how to control time itself, after much trial and error, as well as another conversation with He Who Remains. Yet in that conversation, he learns a fundamental truth about the MCU: He who makes the difficult decisions gets to sit on the throne. He Who Remains is supposedly one such person. In his stead, at the end, Loki does the same. He wrests control of the timelines, bundles them up into a cape, and seats himself on the throne of He Who Remains. As such, he recreates Yggdrasil, the world tree of Norse mythology, the tree upon which all the realms rest. You see? Everything goes back to normal, now that someone is in control.
But wait a minute. Why would Loki ever make this choice? Loki early in the show figures out he doesn’t want a throne. He doesn’t want control. All he ever wanted was to be loved and known and understood. That is the true desire at the heart of his character. It’s beautiful, and poignant, and speaks to my own heart. In Sophie, he found someone who does know and understand him. Is it narcissistic to love a gender variant of yourself? Probably! But it makes sense for him. Because he is a mercurial person. He doesn’t really understand even himself, and because of that, it results in mischief and chaos. That’s who he is. He is a chaos god.
By the end of the show though, he’s learned and grown... what? To love order? To love bureaucracy? To love control? That’s what it’s saying when he takes the throne! I understand that this is Loki learning what it means to be a hero, but is that really what it means? To let go of your defining characteristic? To lose what makes you... you? To undergo true ego death so that the world itself can keep on spinning upon your skeleton? For all its over-explanation, Loki the show isn’t interested in answering much of anything. It’s poetic that he gives up his life so that reality can continue, but this seems rather pointless, in the end. Instead of embracing himself, he denies his identity to sit on a throne he doesn’t want. That’s no god of chaos and mischief. That is the god of stability, order, and the status quo.
That’s not Loki.
Pay no attention to the executive behind the curtain
I understand the mercenary reasons for these choices. I understand that the universe must keep spinning, and the infinite money machine must keep on making money. But to do so, they need to kill the defining characteristics of their beloved characters, and that just makes it all so thin, flimsy and frustrating. There are some amazing moments in this show! Everything with Sophie, Mobius, and Ouroboros is excellent. The characters make this nonsense story shine, long enough to make you hopefully realize that it doesn’t even make internal sense.
As someone who analyses stories for a living, it’s impossible to see this apart from the concept of capitalist realism, whose central maxim is this: It’s easier to believe in the end of the world rather than the end of capitalism. Substitute “capitalism” with “the underlying bureaucracy upon which the world rests and runs itself” and that becomes just the text of Loki. It’s easier to imagine the end of reality than the end of the TVA, and the end of the autocrat who sits on top of the pyramid. The Universe is run by a corrupt pyramid scheme, but it’s that or nothingness! So, you NEED someone to run things like this, otherwise it’s all void.
That’s what this story is saying—but why does it need to say this? Why do we need someone sitting on a throne? For a character like Loki whose entire character is anarchy incarnate, this simply just rings hollow.
And so, I am frustrated. I want to like “Loki.” It has some great moments and is a lot of fun. But at the end of the day, it does the character of Loki wrong but having to reinforce the status quo, and when your central character who is defined by causing mischief, maintaining the status quo is a terrible way to end your series.

I Hate This
So it’s officially the last day before Willow is gone, and my internet is messing up so I can’t even watch it. Disney really screwed us over (again) with another AMAZING show that includes LGBTQ+ and People of Color representation. Disney is a drug that we Hate and Love. It’s a toxic corrupt corporation that has wronged so very many people. I got Disney+ specifically to watch Willow. And yeah I know there’s more stuff to watch on there, but most of the classics I have on DVD or Blu-Ray. I watch other stuff on there as well, but the main thing that made me get Disney plus was Willow. I wanted and needed a new show to watch after The Owl House ended and I found it. I don’t trust Streaming Services because I know eventually more things will be removed and never available again. Like on regular TV most shows aren’t on anymore and they are so damn hard to find in physical format. I really hope they put Willow and various other shows on DVD or Blu-Ray. I don’t want this show to completely disappear and nobody else ever being able to see it again.
Tumblr media
Now this is another problem I have, I feel the need to cancel my Disney+ subscription, but then I wouldn’t be able to see the Goosebumps reboot series or the Darkwing Duck reboot series. (Also I am aware that is not a new pic of the Darkwing Duck.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember what I said when Disney is toxic and we love and hate it? Well this is why I love and hate it. I love Goosebumps and have ever since I was 5 years old, it’s what got me into horror and scary stuff. Darkwing Duck is my favorite Disney character of all time, and I have been waiting for this reboot forever. I HATE DISNEY, but it lures you back to it. Like a toxic partner it manipulates you and bribes you with it’s untrue promises and appealing offers and once it has you it hurts you again.
I don’t know if we will ever see our favorite QUESTIES ever again, on screen or in physical media format, but if we do it will still be magical to see them. I just hope they all know how special they are. I’m not going to say ‘were’ because in my mind they will always be the same characters who made me fall in love with this show forever. I will always appreciate Kit and Jades love story, I will always laugh at Boremans dumbassness, I will always cherish Willows wiseness, I will always care for Graydon, I will always appreciate Airks Honesty, and I will always remember Elora Danan as the most badass sorceress that has ever blessed my screen.

Progressing to Chapter Two…
~~~
Now that all is said and done, everyone back home safe, I’m going to have to make an ending post to the saga. The vacation may be over, but I’ll never forget the memories we made the past few days. All the chaos, the rollercoaster of emotions, all the interactions we shared.
From the very beginning of the first day, before even going to pick up my best friend from the airport, I felt such a sense of belonging - I just knew it would be a good trip. And with my baby brother by my side, we stood at the bottom of those stairs waiting for them. The first hug felt like seeing someone you haven’t seen in a couple months - not like meeting someone you’ve been super close to for a couple years. It was like everything was falling back into place again. Now, I don’t typically share my emotions aloud, so Ness might not know how absolutely giddy it was for me seeing them walk down those stairs, but I was pointing at them and telling my brother to look and making him feel the excitement too. It wasn’t a crying moment for me - nowhere close - but the absolute happiness that warmed my chest was something I haven’t felt in a long time. The first day was mostly a recovery and prep day. Recovery from Ness’ flight. Recovery from my long extensive work schedule. Preparing for the action-packed days ahead. Catching up on drama in both of our lives in real-time. Just chatting and eating and coexisting. And some people may find that boring, but I think it was exactly what we needed. It was exciting, but not adrenaline-pumping excitement. We were able to relax and bond together and it really truly felt like we belonged in that space of comfort. Even during our trip to the mall with my loud baby sister and her equally-loud husband, we were able to just exist together and experience everything, which made it all work really well.
Day 2 may have started hectic with the trains being cancelled and the waking up later than we should’ve and having to figure everything out, but that also gave us another opportunity at Union Station to relax and talk. It was so nice that, even in an unfamiliar space with strangers around, we were able to seem mostly at peace. And the rest of that day was a rollercoaster. The long walk to the hotel for a bit of relaxing before another walk, then missing the street and walking all the way past Disney to get to downtown and feeling poor af walking by that amazing hotel across the street. And while everything was so fun with the escape room that night, I felt super bad choosing the horror theme and making Ness go through all those jump scares. I love them so much and it made me feel terrible that I put them in that position. And Ness, the fact that you cared about the money I spent before worrying about your own sanity made me so upset. I want you to value yourself more. You are so much more important than some money babe. I hope that I can help you realize that, no matter how long it takes.
Day 3 was the concert, and despite the terrible handling, stadium prices, and the sun burn, all the interactions with the group and teasing each other over things and the concert itself made everything worth it. This was the thing that made everything possible. A concert selling tickets that I made an impulsive decision to buy for us. Fate allowed everything to line up: no money for LA? I was handed a well-paying job with loads of overtime shortly after and Anaheim concerts were added at the same time. Ness was given a promotion just in time to save a bit more money and buy the plane tickets out to Cali. Everything was aligned. The universe wanted this to happen, so it did.
And we aren’t nearly finished with explorations and adventures together yet. We may all be apart once again, but let’s hope to do something next year. Korea together should be next. Our online friend over there has promised us a meal, so let’s go claim it. Oi, bro, let’s all meet up this time, okay? I’m sure you’ll probably see this soon, so no going back on that meal, got it? I’ve got a lot to tell you in person too, so be prepared! I can’t always express everything well online, it’s hard sometimes. Ness was able to witness what I’m like in person now, so you’ll see next. The full group of friends meeting up sounds like a dream that’s out of reach for now, but it felt the same way for meeting up with Ness or getting seats that close at the concert or even just the idea of doing any of it.
I can’t wait to return to the place I felt at home at. And to be there with my best friend will be even better. So it’ll happen. Here’s to starting chapter two of the adventures. It all begins in about a week, when I begin the preparations to hopefully move there in six months. Luck has been on my side this far, so we’ll glide into this next part all the same.
See you all in a year.
I’ve been kinda bitter about the whole pride on D*sn*y+ thing and how its not only barren but taking credit for representation that D*sney themselves repressed in the first place, so here’s how I would’ve handled it if i were the CEO of D*sn*y:
A foreword for the front page of the Pride watch list:
This June, we want to celebrate the lives and love of LGBTQ+ with you and use our platform to share your inspirational stories, as well as inspire you to love and be yourself. However, we also recognize that we have a lot of work to do regarding our content and its inclusivity. We have already stated that we wish to reflect the world as it is while moving forward with our content, and we want to make sure this includes the beautiful lives of the LGBTQ+ community in the future. For the time being, we would like to cement this promise to you by making this pride themed watchlist. Each piece of content was selected based on the opinions and enthusiasm of our wonderful and precious LGBTQ+ staff members. For the rest of June, each piece of media in this watch list will be preceded by either a foreword, an interview, or a montage of voices which illuminate it’s value to the community, the work that members of the community have put into it, or, in situations wherein your voices were lost, a spotlight on what the media should have said about the community. We also take immense delight in seeing our media claimed by the community whether representation was intended or not, because representation matters and we encourage you to celebrate your pride wherever you find yourself.
(In a literal sense, if i were the CEO i would own up more directly to the company’s “mistakes”, but i was supposing they’d wanna sprinkle a bunch of PR pixie dust all over it so i used less guilty language than i would have liked to lol)
The watchlist according to me (does not include content I haven’t seen/am not familiar with, I’m sorry if your favorite is missing it’s just cuz I haven’t seen it;;):
-Frozen. Yes, I want this on the front page cuz it would be damn powerful to list their #1 animated movie of all time FIRST. Preceded by a montage of various LGBTQ+ fans celebrating the film in their own proud way. You fuckos are gonna fucking acknowledge just how much else and let it go spoke to the community after almost 10 years whether u like it or not.
-Luca. Preceded by a montage of Proud folk who were inspired by the film and the filmmaker’s TRUE vision for it goddamn it.
-Star Wars. Same reason as Frozen but it’s preceded by an interview with John Boyega and Oscar Isaac about the downplayed romantic relationship between Finn and Poe.
-High School Musical (the actual original movies 1-3) preceded by interviews with Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel regarding Chad and Ryan’s relationship and how it truly existed in their minds.
-Every Disney Princess film that was influenced by Howard Ashman preceded by interviews from every living person who worked with him on these films to highlight who he was and what stories he wanted to tell with these works. Yes, these stories spoke to LGBTQ+ in a sincere way long before whichever executive it was that decided to make Lefou gay for Gaston.
-Turning Red. Every wlw who relates to this movie deserves to speak on it, and while we’re here, please do another behind the scenes video about it that doesn’t pretend the panda was just a puberty metaphor to simplify it for white audiences, please i beg of you.
-The Owl House.
-Amphibia!
-Gravity Falls with a blunt preceding interview with Alex Hirsch about every single instance in which he attempted to include LGBTQ+ representation only to be told no, by none other than D*SN*Y themselves lol.
-Star vs the Forces of Evil (i never finished the series but i know shit was censored so it’s time to bring that to light).
-And hey, since we own everything on Fox now, let’s include Bob’s Burgers and even the Simpsons! They aren’t perfect but they at least made significant efforts over the years unlike some mouse-eared executives.
-i was gonna insist they include onward and the beauty and the beast remake with preceding interviews about how they recognize their mistakes now, but maybe it’s best to not bother lol INSTEAD let’s just have a nice featurette where these movies among many others come up as examples of mistakes and missteps that the mouse seeks to rectify and improve on 8).
-I guess they can also feel free to include whatever other legitimate things they had listed in their real pride watchlist, tho i would prefer it if Glee wasn’t at the top and that it had like a biiiiiig forewording about all the flaws in it that range from cringe to damaging and maybe they can include pop ups throughout the whole thing about how they could’ve done better in any given scene lol
-Also Mulan (the animated one that wasnt pandering to a corrupt government) cuz bisexuality and gender queer representation fucking matters bless lol
(If u actually read my rambles and have any other suggestions feel free to shout em out)
Things you might not know about Bivalve (Ch.12)
A/N: Once again, Minors do not read. Explicit content you have been warned.
Chapter 12; another fun chapter. Get ready Folks.
Fact 1: Vol. 3 is called Kiss the Girl. Messed up in many ways as it’s a Disney reference (and Amphitrite ironically looks like Ariel) and it is right after they hit 3rd base.
Fact 2: Reader casually wishes she had google to help search up what to do if you have sex with a god. Just normal things.
Fact 3: Poseidon is the type to read a book then fall asleep after sex. Then again he probably has more stamina than the reader so he isn’t likely that tired.
Fact 4: His bedroom also secretly reveals a similarity between him and Triton. Poseidon bed is a circle bed in the center of his room, Triton build a nest like bed out of pillows. Poseidon is laying on a pile of soft and silk pillows to keep himself upright, Triton likes soft and comfy things. Coincidence? I think not.
Fact 5: Reader casually insults Poseidon by saying she doesn’t see him as the type to read. Poseidon is also reading a book about Penguins btw. There was going to be a scene where the reader snatched the book away but that got replaced by the pillow scene.
Fact 6: The fact that Poseidon wrinkles his nose up at the term “wife” when referring to reader, once again shows that Poseidon and Reader are physical attracted to each other. They aren’t emotionally nor do they like each other like that yet.
Fact 7: However when the servant knocks on the door and both of them think it’s Amphitrite, Poseidon acts very defensive and suspicious. This shows that he is instinctively acting protecting over the reader, not feeling yet but he’s ahead of the reader a little.
Fact 8: Poseidon casually gives reader a vitamin/birth control pill. This reveals Poseidon didn’t wear a condom. Poseidon is an asshole.
Fact 9: Reader casually thinks it’s a good idea to throw a pillow to Poseidon. Poseidon also didn’t catch it. This shows his guard was down, either because he didn’t care since the reader is human or that he felt relaxed with her. I’ll let you guys decide which one is correct.
Fact 10: When Poseidon says “You aren’t going anywhere, Human.” Was this sexual? Yes.
Does that mean Author wrote another smu— Shush. Yes. Just take the answer as always yes. Once again, it’s locked in the deepest dungeons of my abyssal docs.
Fact 11: Amphitrite casually wondering where it all went wrong when Poseidon is currently having sex with reader. How convenient.
Fact 12: Amphitrite wears a dark veil to hide herself from the eyes of the gorgon sisters. This reveals that gods are affected by the powers of the gorgon sisters.
Fact 13: In Bivalve, Medusa is not pregnant with Poseidon’s kids (Pegasus and Chrysaor). This means Medusa is not raped by Poseidon. And before you all come for my head about that, I have my reasons. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that version of the Medusa story. I just felt that it didn’t fit with the fact that a. Amphitrite scares off any female near Poseidon and b. Snv Poseidon in Bivalve doesn’t really fit Mythology Poseidon. I made him much colder than a gross player.
Fact 14: So, this begs the question, SPOILERS IF YOU AREN’T CAUGHT UP TO CHAPTER 19, how did Euryale get pregnant with Orion. Well, that will be mentioned in chapter 20. It’s not through the usual way I assure you. Could this mean Medusa could secretly have Pegasus and Chrysaor when her head is cut off, perhaps? It’s going to be a little weird writing it though.
Fact 15: Now, I know people liked the gorgon sisters during this chapter but I promise from Ch 20 or 23 forward you will hate them. I will be surprised if you don’t.
Do with this information what you wish.
Prompt: Chris Evans story where your boyfriend is a cheating douche-bag. He cheats on you time and time again and you get into a bit of a depression. You confide in your best friend, Chris Evans. His consoling leads to sex, the sex soon turns into a regular thing and you get happy again. Your boyfriend sees your change and promises that he will never cheat again and that he will treat you better. You’re happy but sad at the same time because now you have to break things off with Chris. But Chris won’t have it; he says that you should stay with him and not your boyfriend. You’re not sure of which decision to make, so Chris lists off reasons why you would be better off with him.
Chris Evans x black!reader
A/N: my first Chris Evans story!! Let me know what you guys think of it.
A/N 2: I started this story a few years ago and it took me a long time to finish cause I was on a very long writing hiatus and didn't finish this until earlier this year, so some of the story goes off of what the summary says and I decided to turn this into 2 parts (could be more, depending on how long the 2nd part is). So no smut in this part, just angst and dumb jokes. This also originally wasn't going to be a black reader story, but seeing how my ACTUAL 1st Chris Evans story went pretty well (the Game On story) I decided to make it another one cause I love it.
C/W: angst, swearing, my dumb jokes, 3rd person story (it hurt my brain to write it this way, but I wanted to try something different)
“He did it again, Chris! Michael cheated on me with some big titted chick,” Y/N said as she sobbed into her best friend’s shoulder.
Chris rubbed his friend’s back, trying to calm her down. He knew how to handle situations like these since Y/N went through so many of them with her boyfriend. Chris thought her relationship with Michael was like a broken record: always repeating itself. It was good at first with the couple being so obviously in love, but that changed six months later when Michael decided that Y/N wasn’t enough and started to cheat on her with multiple women. Y/N had been given advice by Chris countless times about guys like Michael and she listened to him, she really did. But she always ended up forgiving her unfaithful boyfriend and enjoyed the makeup sex that Michael would give her after.
“He and that big titted chick can both go to hell for all I care,” Chris replied. Then he lifted his friend’s head from his shoulder and made her look directly in his eyes. “Hey hon,” he said using his ‘friendly’ nickname for Y/N. “I think it’s about time you dropped that lame ass zero and got yourself a hero.”
“Okay, Captain America,” Y/N chuckled while wiping her face.
Chris laughed too, but deep down he was really hoping that Y/N would actually consider dating him. They met seven years ago and became fast friends. But the bearded actor didn’t count on falling for Y/N a few years later when he was doing an interview for one of his new movies and Y/N was there to help support him and make sure his anxiety didn’t get the best of him. While in the middle of the interview, Chris started to feel a little fidgety, so he tugged on his ear; a sign that told Y/N that he needed her help. She was standing right behind the cameraman, so Y/N could see everything that Chris was doing. She saw the signal and started to make some weird faces for her best friend.
Y/N made Chris and the interviewer crack up that day, especially when she stood right behind the cameraman and started to bulge her eyes out at him, making him laugh as well. At that moment, Chris realized that he had found that special someone. That special someone that he wants to spend the rest of his life with and just keep forever, never let go.
Y/N was sweet, considerate and loved Disney movies and dogs as much as he did. So he felt that she was just perfect for him. He even started to mentally kick his ass for taking so long to realize this.
The interviewer asked Chris one last question before he had to leave.
“So, Chris, is there a special lady in your life? Ya know, besides your mother and sisters,” she asked.
Chris chuckled and looked right in Y/N’s direction with a bright smile on his face. “Well, I don’t have anyone yet,” the blonde answered, his eyes never leaving Y/N’s, “but I’m looking for her.”
“Chris? Chris, did you hear me,” Y/N asked suddenly, stopping Chris from remembering the day he fell for her.
Evans shook his head no. “Sorry, I zoned out for a few seconds.”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “I said I would love to find a new boyfriend, but I’m still in love with Michael.” Chris rolled his eyes this time. “Don’t do that, man. I can’t help that these are my feelings for him.”
“But what are your feelings for him right now! Aren’t you sad? Pissed? Or feeling like you just wanna punch that douche-bag in the face so hard that his face caves in a little bit?”
Chris’s friend nodded her head yes and started to sob again. He felt bad for making Y/N cry; he would never want to make her tears fall from her eyes unless they were tears of joy. He grabbed Y/N and embraced her for a few minutes until she was calm again. Once was she was, Chris pulled away from Y/N enough to look her in her eyes.
“Hey, promise me that you’ll forget about that douche for at least two weeks and just try to find someone better. Okay?” Chris begged with sincerity in his eyes.
“Okay,” I promise,” Y/N complied.
Chris kissed Y/N’s head and, after saying goodbye, left his friend’s house for the night.
           * * *
Chris returned to Y/N’s house a few weeks later. He rung the doorbell and heard a faint ‘it’s open’. Evans opened and closed the door behind him and blushed at the sight in front of him: there stood Y/N, wearing only a pair of boy shorts and an over sized t-shirt, no makeup. That’s when Chris thought, no knew, that Y/N was the most beautiful woman out there.
"Hi Chris," Y/N greeted her best friend with a warm hug and a kiss on his cheek. Evans couldn't help the blush that crept onto his face. He also couldn't help but to imagine if he and Y/N were together and he'd come home from being on set all day long, her greeting him the same way she was now except that she'd try to pull back a little to ask him about his day. But Chris would hold his lover in a tight embrace, kiss her so lovingly, so passionately, and ask about her day instead.
Yeah, Christopher Robert [Jamal] Evans would love that.
"Hey, Y/N," Chris replied as he breathed in the embrace. "How've you been lately?"
"A little bit better; not fully okay, but I'm getting there I think," Y/N answered.
Chris shook his head in disbelief. He knew when his best friend was lying to him. "Y/N," he whispered, "I can see in your eyes that you're hurting more than letting on. You sure you're doing fine?"
Y/N's smile was quickly replaced with a small frown. "I'm doin' fine, Evans," she answered, mocking Chris's Boston accent. "And, before you ask, yes I have went on a few dates with other guys; three to be exact. First guy wouldn't shut up about his ex-wife; like I was supposed to be his therapist or something. Second guy -this gorgeous dreadhead- we connected and shit, but he too wouldn't stop talking about his ex and his table manners were terrible." You rolled your eyes before finishing your list. "Last but not least, I went on date with Mr. I-Got-Tons-of-Money-Baby. We didn't connect at all and I'm sure it was cause of his cocky attitude and the way he talked down to people -it was disgusting! " The dateless woman flounced into her big living room and plopped down onto her L-shaped sofa. "Trying to find a new man is pointless, Chris. Either I start dating women cause why the fuck not!? Or I just give up on love all together."
Chris chuckled but then nervously cleared his throat after he came up with a great -but what he also thought was a heart attack inducing- idea. "Y/N," he stammered.
"Yeah, man?"
"If the whole thing with you dating females doesn't work out, but you still want to try to find love, then I know exactly who you should date next."
Y/N gave Chris a questionable look. He didn't say anything back, just raised an eyebrow and grinned mischievously. It took Y/N a few seconds to understand what Chris was talking about. But once she did, her mouth went into an O shape, showing her shock and surprise.
"Are you serious, Evans," Y/N exclaimed; eyes now wide as golf balls. "You wanna date me!?!"
The actor chuckled. He didn't think that his friend would be so shocked by his words. "I've been wanting to date you basically almost ever since we first met, Y/N. I just- -I just never knew what to say to you about it, or if you felt the same way or not and if you didn't then I didn't want to ruin our friendship, or if you did feel the dame way but then something bad happens to us down the road and then that messes with up our friendship and then there's the thing with paparazzi..." Chris was rambling on and on but Y/N was listening to everything he was saying. Hanging onto every word that was coming out of her best friend's mouth.
Y/N had never known that Chris had felt this way about her. It wasn't that she was completely oblivious (well, maybe a little), but she also never saw any signs of her friend being in love with her. Wait. Was Chris in love with Y/N? As far as she knew -or as far as she thought from what she was told so far- this was just a crush. A crush confession that apparently was a long time coming. She wondered how she felt for Chris; did she have the same feelings for him like he did for her? When they first met, all Y/N cared about was how Chris acted as a person, not as Captain America or as an actor in general. But as Chris Evans, an everyday man. Y/N knew, after that one day of meeting Evans, that she wanted to be best friends with the man, nothing more and nothing less. But now, with Chris' confession and continuous ramblings, Y/N was having different and a little bit confusing thoughts.
Sure Chris Evans is an very attractive man, physically speaking. But Y/N doesn't care about looks -much- when it comes to dating or anything for that matter. She thinks what makes people attractive is their personality more than anything, and she knows Chris has the best personality she's ever seen from a person. But she wasn't sure if she was ready to date him or anyone else for that matter. Although, if Y/N was going to date more, then Chris would probably be her number one pick.
"So, what do you say, Y/N," Chris asked, hopeful.
______________________________________________________________
And that's the end of part 1, everyone. Part 2 will be posted....probably next week or so. It is currently one of my WIPs so I'm definitely working on it.
But what do ya'll think will happen next? What will Y/N's answer to Chris be? Will she say yes, or will she say no? Who knows??? Except for me; I know. Also, you're Y/N; Y/N is you, so you better hope that you say something positive back :P Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this! Thanks for reading!!
There’s a nasally howl from the neighbour’s place. Izuku looks up – it’s the very loud, very blond guy living in the unit opposite. They’re technically in separate blocks but their balconies are close enough they can see into each other’s living rooms. He’s dancing around in his pyjamas. Yodelling at the top of his lungs off-key, swinging his Pomeranian around by the armpits like a furry ragdoll. “You’re a dog! You’re a fluffy little yellow dog and you’re a pain in the ass but you’re still my favourite shit-stain, yeah!”
Izuku bursts out laughing. The neighbour’s head whips around. He yelps when he sees him, tossing the dog on the couch and scrambling out of view to hide in the hall.
Izuku drops the watering can and runs back inside to find his phone.Small Might: Guys. I've decided i have a crush on my neighbour.
'The rules are simple. Battle of the Bands. Local bands send in a single track to the radio station, and ten tracks are selected. The top two have the honor of opening on the first stop of All Might’s retirement tour – here. In Izuku’s home town. And finally, the winner gets the ultimate prize. Mina pulled up a video of a young man, seemingly teen, dancing to a popular new hit, and Izuku felt his heart drop to his stomach. His skin prickled and felt clammy as he started sweating nervously, not daring to move or make a noise. His eyes were glued to the screen but he didn’t see anything – his brain was too busy going into overdrive and freaking out.
Because Mina was showing him a video of himself. The one he uploaded last night.
How on Earth did she find this? He had barely a few thousand views, he wasn’t popular, and it’s not like he was even any good, especially compared to her or Kacchan–
“That move was sexy as hell,” Kacchan said, and that was when Izuku realized that his childhood friend – his longtime crush – also leaned in to watch the video Mina was showing him.
"So after doing all that," Katsuki says, "you're just going to settle here? Tatting up wannabe bad boys?"
"You think all guys who have a lot of tattoos are wannabes?" Midoriya asks, so smoothly that it throws Katsuki.
"Wh—no, I mean—maybe!" Katsuki says. "You'd know best, wouldn't you? Are you a bad boy?"
The words are out of his mouth before he even realizes it, and he regrets them immediately. There's a figurative list of things that one should never do, and probably high up on it is asking dark-haired sailors with ocean green eyes and black swirls of ink all across their barely concealed muscles if they are bad boys.
Katsuki thinks he has everything he needs in life: a successful pet shop, an occasionally reliable assistant, and the unconditional love of the twenty puppies he’s raising for adoption. Open Doors
Summary: Tommy should really consider closing his door.
Warnings: This is a tickle fic that has swearing.
This is all platonic!
———————————————————————
“Copy and...paste. Oh a full quizlet, lets fucking go!” Tommy muttered to himself, searching the answers for his homework.
Now, normally he would just read through the articles he had been assigned and answer the questions paired with them. But he was tired and history can get very, very boring.
So there he was, laying face down on his bed and facing away from the door, which was wide open. He continued clicking between the tab with answers and his own worksheet for a good 10 minutes and was about a third of the way done when a voice spoke from behind, startling him.
“Tommy” Came the questioning yet knowing voice. Tommy spun his head around to see Phil standing a meter behind him, he’d leaned down slightly to get a better look at Tommy’s screen and be sure he was seeing right.
“Phil! What’s up?” Play it cool, play it cool. He could probably weasel his way out of this one. He’d never been caught cheating, well- bending the rules, before. However, Phil had always been good at keeping him motivated to do his schooling be it reward or persuasion.
Phil chose to ignore the question and took a step forward, “What are you doing, mate?” He asked although he already knew the answer.
“Me? Oh I’m just doing some studying. You know, being a scholar and all.” Tommy answered somewhat honestly, hoping the slight twist of his words wasn’t too noticeable. He kept his tone light and threw jokes in as an attempt to convey his usual confidence. He switched his tab from the quizlet with answers back to his assigned article when Phil took a step closer.
Phil smiled, it was funny how Tommy was such an unconvincing liar and yet a decent actor. Phil knew what Tommy was up to and he didn’t blame him, it seemed neither of them were interested in history. This didn’t mean that he was going to let him off the hook though. “Oh hey hey! No need to click off so fast bud.” He let Tommy dig his own grave with his words.
“Sorry, I clicked off of it and now I can’t find it, no need to worry though. You know, I should really get back to-“ Tommy was cut off.
“Here, let me help.” Phil interrupted the boy and moved to sit beside him, now almost leaning over him completely. Phil pretended to search, massively overacting to build the playful atmosphere. “Awww, I can’t find it Toms. Sorry mate.”
Tommy blinked at the sudden close contact and tried to control his grin at the silliness. “That’s what I said, but it’s alright Phil.” He assured the man, now more confused at where this was going.
Phil put a hand on Tommy’s shoulder and let a sympathetic look overtake his features. “No need to look so sad, let me see what I can do.” He dropped the false sympathy in exchange for a sly smile and began skittering Tommy’s ribs.
Tommy yelped and tried to clamp his arms to his sides as giggles escaped passed his lips. However, they were the only thing propping him up and he found himself faced with shoving his face into the bed or taking his punishment. He decided to hide his face in the blanket as Phil soon began cooing at him.
“Phihil, I sahahaid I’m fihihine!” He whined, muffled by the sheets.
Phil let his hands wander further up towards the boy’s upper ribs, sporadically dipping into his underarms to get a screech or two. He easily got past the weak defenses and stepped up his teasing a bit.
“I’m fine! I’m fine Phil!” He mocked Tommy in a high pitch voice. “You won’t be when I’m done with you, that’s for sure.” He light heartedly threatened, knowing the promise of more to come would get a rise out of the boy.
Whines now pierced the light laughter as Tommy tried to drown out the words being spewed at him. He thrashed from side to side when the evil fingers dug into his hollows, his volume increasing. He tried to keep some form of coherency as he was taken apart piece by piece, he didn’t want it to stop just yet so he opted to do a little provoking. “IHIHi dohont sohOHOUnd like thahat you ohohold asS-SHIHIHIT!”
Phil didn’t take lightly to the provoking, especially since Tommy had brought this upon himself in the first place. He moved his hands down quickly and without warning, dug into his hips. He used his pointer fingers to dig into the cluster of nerves near the front of the bones on each side and used the rest of his hands to hold the boy in place.
Hiccups now intermingled with the boisterous laughter as the sweet spot was targeted. Curse Phil and knowing Tommy’s spots like the back of his hand. Tommy gathered the strength to flip onto his back in an attempt to better fight off his playful attacker. This plan backfired almost immediately. Phil raised his shirt and blew a large raspberry right above Tommy’s belly button.
“PLEHEHEASE! PHIHIHIL-“
Phil knew he had a better advantage in the new position Tommy had foolishly put himself in. However, he also knew that the boy wouldn’t be able to take much more and so he decided on a grand finale. He gave an exaggerated evil laugh, similar to a Disney villain, took another breath, and dove back down to blow a series of raspberries on Tommy’s stomach. He scratched at the sides on his stomach whilst still administering the treatment. He ran out of breath soon enough and settled for nibbling around the area, dodging flying hands when they came too close to actually making contact.
Tommy was relived when he finally caught both of Phil’s hands, stopping them in their tracks. This was short lived as Phil blew a final raspberry, this time not staying in one area but moving his head as he dished it out. Tommy let go of his hands and curled up in the fetal position, wrapping his arms around his torso.
Phil chuckled and pulled away completely. He let him rest for a moment before moving a hand to card through his hair in the most relaxing manner.
After originally flinching at the incoming hand, Tommy relaxed into the gesture and uncurled his body. He let out the remaining giggles he had before closing his eyes and melting, school could wait until the buzzing after effects wore off.
“Take a rest bud, you definitely deserve it after that.” Phil assured and took his free hand to rub away the left over tingles on his stomach. He chuckled again when Tommy’s smile reappeared and he set his hands next to Phil’s, half expecting him to start up again. “Relax mate, I’m done for now.”
That was the last thing Tommy heard before tipping over the edge of sleep.
Wilbur was walking down the corridor with a mug of hot chocolate in hand. He was bored out of his mind but in a good mood nonetheless. As he passed the youngest member’s room, he heard a familiar toon being gently sang out.
“I’m looking for a window to another world-“
His eyes lit up and his heart filled with warmth so strong he had to take a second to cope with it. Tommy had a way of being able to melt Will down to his very core. He crept up to the door sitting ajar and stood in it’s frame.
“What’cha singing Tommyboy?” He asked with the teasing tone he saved for times like this.
Tommy jumped a foot in the air and clutched his heart dramatically, making a face mixed with shock and mild embarrassment.
“Nothing, just some weird song I heard. Kinda shit.” He said with mocking confidence. His cockiness soon retreated when he saw Will’s eyes darken as he stepped past the threshold.
“I don’t know, sounded like a good one to me. Maybe you could sing it again?” He set his mug on Tommy’s desk, where the boy sat, and stood looming behind his chair.
Tommy strained his neck trying to look at Will once he felt his presence so close. “Absolutely not.”
“No no, you definitely should. Maybe I could gets some tips before releasing it, you never know.” Will continued to play it up even though he knew Tommy wouldn’t full heartedly sing in front of him. “Why don’t I help you out some hmm?”
With that, he spidered his fingers right where the shoulders meet the neck to get him to scrunch up. This made it much easier for him to sneak his hands under Tommy’s arms and tickle there instead.
Tommy gasped and let out small huffs at the spot Will had chosen, unknowingly falling right into the trap by trying to crush the offending hands between his shoulder and head. “Yohou’re so duhuHUMB-“ He trailed off at the change in spots as he was overcome with laughter.
“Those aren’t the lyrics, try again!” He playfully encouraged his friend and picked up some speed. “Maybe this’ll help motivate you.”
Tommy felt himself relax into the sensations, torturous as they were. He had been editing for the past 2 and a half hours and could use a distraction. While he was caught in his thoughts, he forgot to answer Wilbur.
“Not answering are we?” He tsked with a grin. He didn’t mind that Tommy wasn’t talking, he knew that he was enjoying himself and besides, he liked his laughter just as well as his witty comebacks.
His thoughts were sliced through by Wilbur’s words. Tommy shook his head, now hiding his face in his hands. He could feel his blush and there was no doubt the content look on his face wouldn’t go unnoticed.
At the head shake, Will chuckled. He lifted one of his hands, keeping the other scratching away at the boy’s underarm. “Ok tough guy.” He said before dropping his now free hand to squeeze Tommy’s knee. Will knew it was unfair to target two weak points at the same time, but he also knew Tommy had a high tolerance.
Tommy’s laughter increased as did his squirming. He ended up hitting the underside of his desk with his knee so hard that it knocked over the full mug. Thankfully it missed anything important, but clattered to the floor anyways, spilling the liquid and making quite the noise.
Both boys gasped and looked to the mess.
“Tommy!”
“Will!”
They both exclaimed each other’s names at the same time accusingly. Now looking at each other in shock.
“Boys...” Came Phil’s voice from the living room. “What happened? Actually, never mind, I’m coming.” There were foot steps quickly approaching as both boys shared a look of ‘oh shit’.
“Again?” Phil exclaimed once he’d seen what happened, his words clearly expressing his disbelief.
Wilbur and Tommy exchanged another look. “SCATTER!” Will yelled out as they both ran past Phil.
——————
——————
Tommy admired himself in the mirror. ‘I should really get one of these capes and definitely a crown too’, he thought to himself as he admired his complexion adorned with Technoblade’s signature outfit.
“We could always get you your own you know, so you don’t keep takin’ mine.” Speak of the devil.
Tommy acted unfazed as he turned to face the regal man. He put on his best American accent and tried becoming stoic to imitate Techno. “Bow before me, fool. This is my outfit now, sorry not sorry.” Tommy said smugly, dropping the accent after the first few words.
Techno brought a hand to his chin and gave Tommy an interested look. “Oh really? My apologies, your Majesty. But in my defense, you’re wearing it all wrong.”
Tommy’s eyes widened, he turned back around to the mirror to give it another look. “Really?” He asked, now looking at Techno from the mirror.
Techno hid his mischievous grin, he had Tommy right where he wanted him. “Oh yes, it goes more like this-“ he grabbed the bottom on the cape and threw it over Tommy’s head.
Tommy let out a laugh at the antics. “No, no. I really don’t think it’s supposed to go like thihihis, stohohop it!”
Once he had plunged Tommy into darkness, he put his plan in action. Roughly scratching to be felt through the thick fabric. He began scratching at his ribs and drifted towards the lower parts of his sides, now switching to squeezes and swift pokes.
“Ihihi’m royal Techno! Yohohou won’t gehehet away with this!” He exclaimed, knees going weak but continuing to hold him up.
Techno let himself freely smile, seeing there was no one to see. He moved down a little to squeeze now at the boy’s hips. He used a tactic he’d seen Phil use a few times. Using his pointer, middle finger, and thumb to squeeze at the muscles. He knew from experience that it was nearly deadly.
“But you see, that’s where you’re wrong.” He leaned so he could whisper in Tommy’s ear, “I always win.” He said, ceasing his previous tickling to vibrate all of his fingers into the sides of Tommy’s stomach.
Tommy’s reaction was instantaneous, he curled in on himself as hysterical giggles poured out. He knew this was one of Techno’s favorite spots to get him, mostly because of the childish laughter it produced. It was a very flustering spot despite not being one of his worst.
Techno caught him before he could completely crumble to the ground. “Woah there Little Prince, take it easy.” He chuckled and took off the crown and cape, setting them to the side.
“Bihig Prince. Like the Fresh Prihince of Bel-Air but better.” Tommy rambled as after giggles still rampaged him.
“My mistake.” Techno said as he walked Tommy over to his bed so they could regain some composure.
And if a week later there was a flowing cape and a golden crown wrapped in pink paper on Tommy’s bed, well it’s good as canon.
Ok so I either have Covid or a cold but either way I’m feeling significantly less swag. Also I miss you guys omg 💕
The Owl House, Season 2, Episode 11, "Follies at the Coven Day Parade," First Impressions!
Tumblr media
It has been…seven. Long. Months.
Seven long months of waiting, of agonizing, of theorizing, of memeing, of shipping, of flaming, of raging at Disney, of often forgetting that Morinmark’s comics aren’t canon, of generally losing our minds waiting for The Owl House to return.
And now it has, and it hit the ground running.
So. The first episode of the second half of season two has finally dropped. We are getting brand new material.
Let’s do this.
Okay, a quick rundown, then I’ll start breaking things down. To begin, Luz is stressing over her promise to her mother to come home (and is it just me, or were the words her mother used in her memory of that scene from Yesterday’s Lie different than the actual lines? If so, that really indicates how much that moment has gotten Luz twisted up), and she’s trying to work up a defense for her to stay in the Boiling Isles. Meanwhile, Eda has learned that Raine is once again active as the head of the Bard’s Coven and will in fact be a part of the Coven’s Day Parade, which just smells wrong to her. And meanwhile, poor lil’ Kikimora is torn between visiting her family or taking part in the parade, as doing one will lead to being banished by the other.
Naturally, Luz feels that there is a solution to all of their problems.
Naturally, things do not go as planned.
All right. Let us begin.
LUZ
As I said, Luz’s visit to Camilla didn’t turn out how she wanted, and now with the promise of staying home looming in her mind, she’s starting to unravel.
Because Luz doesn’t want to go home. She’s happy in the Boiling Isles. She finally gets to learn magic, to better herself in a way that’s interesting to her, to have real friends that respect her, and to have an awesome girlfriend who is also an awesome witch. She’s basically the rare Isekai protagonist that knows that she’s an Isekai protagonist, and she is loving it!
Basically, her mom is really the only thing tying her to the human world. And, okay, I know I’ve been harsh on Camila because of the whole G-Rated conversion therapy vibes that the camp gave off. I’ve had time to think on that and cooled off enough on that front to realize that Camilla really is a loving parent doing her best and that Luz really did have major behavioral problems that needed addressing and the camp was probably actually benign after all and that misconception was basically just a poorly thought out joke that led to some very unfortunate coding. So, we’re good on that front.
But anyway, she does love her mom, and feels awful about hurting her. But she also doesn’t want to leave, and as such is building up her case to convince her mom that the Boiling Isles really is the place for her.
Unfortunately, the Boiling Isles are still the Boiling Isles, and, well…
Tumblr media
Seven months of no Owl House and this is pretty much the first image to greet us back.
God, I love this show. Bless you, Hooty, you absolutely horrifying abomination.
What I find interesting is just how quickly she latched onto Kikimora’s plight, despite all the very terrible things that Kiki has done to her and her friends (which Eda was more than happy to provide a list of), Luz still wanted to help her, in part because Luz is the most cinnamony of all cinnamon rolls, but also because she empathizes with Kiki being stuck between her family’s expectations and her dream job, as awful as that job might be.
And okay, I know that it’s an unpopular opinion, but I’m just going to say it. I like Kikimora. I know she’s a terrible person, but she’s also really funny, really hammy, and sort of pathetic, so I can’t help but enjoy her. Plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for villains that really, really wanted something. I mean, come on: who didn’t sort of want Starscream to take over the Deceptions?
But while being caught between two worlds certainly has gotten her all wound up, it’s also causing another problem.
Namely, lying to Amity.
AMITY
Oh, our cotton-candy haired goddess, how you have been missed.
I love Amity. I’ve made no secret of it. She’s my favorite character. I knew she would be going in, and I was right on the money.
And what I really love about her, what this episode made a point of emphasizing, is that while she is still a hot mess of issues thanks to her terrible parents, her rejection issues, and her chronic need for validation, she is aware of her flaws, realizes fully that she was kind of pretty bad person for a while, and is actively working to be a better person! Obviously her dependency on Luz is a big part of that, hence why is does have a tendency to go above and beyond to be Luz’s Awesome Girlfriend, but even so. Trying to learn Spanish to come up with cute nicknames for her girlfriend? Oh yeah, A+ material. Tomato X Sweet Potato, OTP.
But this definitely comes into play when she figures out that Luz hasn’t told her the truth about the portal, especially when she winds up with Luz’s phone. Now, I was bracing myself for the Liar’s Reveal plotline, truly one of my most despised drama mines. I expected her to watch the video, realize the truth, and get mad at Luz and yell at her a lot.
But Amity doesn’t do that. Instead, she first goes to Willow for advice (more on that later), decides to respect Luz’s privacy and NOT play the video, and instead go to Luz and ask her about it directly!
Because Amity has grown up in a household that constantly violated her privacy, so she knows how important it is. Hell, LUZ violated her privacy, and we all saw how much Amity was hurt by that. As such, she is actively working to not repeat the toxic patterns of her family and respect Luz’s in turn.
And secondly, instead of getting mad over Luz lying to her, she instead intuits correctly that Luz herself was hurt by something and is scared and instead calmly just approaches her to talk it out. That’s wonderful! Like, this is what I wanted from these two, for them to have an actual relationship with open communication! It’s clear that these two dorks really don’t know what they’re doing. It’s both of their first times being in love, it’s scary to them both, but man, they are trying their hardest to make it work, and they’re succeeding!
Now, we don’t get to see Amity’s reaction to Luz telling her about her mom’s ultimatum, but I imagine it will be addressed in episodes to come.
I really want to see Amity meet Camila. Please let me have this.
EDA and RAINE
So far, Eda has been a true maverick, a rebel just doing her thing, rolling with the punches and trucking along. Horribly cursed? Eh, manageable. Lose her magic? There’s workarounds. Emperor’s Coven trying constantly to arrest her? Sounds like fun!
However, she does have one weakness, one that really gets to her.
She cares about people. A lot.
For all of her bluster, Eda can’t allow any of her found family to come to harm. We’ve seen her put herself in danger for their sake time and time again, and if anyone that she cares about was in trouble, Eda would stop at nothing to go after them.
And she really cares about Raine.
Poor Raine. To go from leading a rebellion against Belos to being brainwashed by what I can only describe as GILF Perfuma into licking Belos’s boots. They truly have had it rough, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any easier.
I don’t have a whole lot to analyze as this plotline is only getting started, but it’s still clear that despite having their entire previous encounter wiped from their memory, Raine still cares a great deal about Eda, even if Terra has twisted that care up into hostility. I mean, even though they’ve been manipulated into seeing Eda as an enemy, they still kept trying to give her an out! And did you see that tear?
It's clear that rescuing Raine means more to Eda than her curse or regaining her magic. I imagine that she’ll get through to them eventually, but it’s going to be a fight, especially with Terra in the way. Maybe Willow can help on that end, given her proficiency with plants.
And speaking of which…
WILLOW
Aw, yes girl! Get you those gains!
Sorry, I’ve become something of a gym nut lately, so I’m all for Willow pumpin’ dat iron.
Anyway, Willow and Gus have kinda been pushed to the sidelines this season, which honestly does make sense, as they’re basically just “the friends.” Even Gus’s solo episode got overshadowed by its own B-Plot. However, this episode did touch on something I’ve been wondering about for a while.
It’s clear that Willow has forgiven Amity and the two are on good terms again, but did you see that look on Willow’s face when Amity was braiding her hair? It’s clear that the years of bullying still sting, and there is still a gulf there. I have a feeling that this will be addressed in the future, which I am definitely here for.
Look, I love Amity to death, and it’s not her fault her parents are so rotten, but the way she treated Willow was just cruel. And even though she’s taken responsibility for that behavior, honestly apologized, and is making a real effort to be better, sometimes that isn’t enough. And I’m sure that having her former bully who stabbed her in the back when they were kids now be dating one of her closest friends kind of upsets Willow. Like, she’s also making an effort, but that pain doesn’t go away so easily.
It's clear that they all have a long journey ahead of them, though with the Day of Unity looming, they might not have much time to come to terms with things. However, I am most certainly here for the ride. This is gonna be great.
After a life long Quarantine
(A/N): This was requested by an anon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing
Summary: How will Matthew's daughter, a so called covid baby, react to seeing real humans aside from her father for the first time?
Wordcount: 1.5k
✨Masterlist✨
_______________________________
Of course there is not a perfect time to have children. You never are going to be completely prepared. There is always something you’ll worry about. Are you going to be a good parent? Is your child going to be healthy? Are you financially stable enough?
All these and more questions flew through Matthew’s head constantly. But before the baby was due to arrive, the world got a little bit more crazy. Stores had to close, masks help you not kill your neighbor and it feels like breathing air could be the reason you die within the next two weeks. In other words: Covid-19 hit and everything kind of went into saving mode.
Subjectively for Matthew having a baby in the middle of a pandemic is the worst time ever. Shortly after going into lockdown the little (Y/N) was born. He was lucky to be able to come with his back then girlfriend into the hospital, he narrowly missed the restriction.
Sadly for the small family (Y/N)’s mother didn’t feel ready to take care of her and just a few weeks after her birth she took her stuff and made a beeline for a carefree life without responsibilities.
For Matthew it was a banger and he had to get used to a completely new day to day life. Still, he is very happy to have his daughter, his sunshine, with him. And secretly he is happy about the pandemic, because the freshly baked father is able to monitor any new progress or milestone (Y/N) has made in her development. He didn’t miss her first conscious smile, laugh or her first words (“Dada” of course, she is a daddy’s girl). The only thing he is concerned about for now will be the separation anxiety when he has to leave her for Kindergarten or work. But this is something Matthew can worry about later.
To be perfectly honest the only surroundings (Y/N) has seen yet is their apartment and the park. He tries to overlap her nap time with his grocery runs, so his daughter is asleep in her stroller while he picks up the things they need. It’s the easiest and most relaxing way without being separated.
Now, nearly a year after her birth, the whole situation slowly lets up. Stores reopen, people are back in the cities and everything seems a little brighter, a little happier. Travel restrictions are banned (still with safety precautions).
Since his baby’s birth he wasn’t able to see his parents in person. Of course they skyped and facetimes as often as possible, but they have yet to meet their grandchild. That’s why Matthew decided to take a roadtrip from New York City to Las Vegas.
His plan is to drive to Texas to visit Thomas and his family and to show his own child off. He knows that the car ride (to San Antonio 27 hours plus 18 to Las Vegas) is long. Luckily Matthew has enough time to plan this road trip and the plane ride back thoroughly and count enough breaks for him and his daughter. There are many fun activities, like visiting several zoos, a waterpark and a fair for example. He wants to show (Y/N) that there are many beautiful spots in the world she has yet to see.
That’s why he gets up at 4 a.m on a Tuesday, gets her and himself ready and is in the rental car at sharp 5 a.m. He wants to get a few miles done before eating lunch in a diner or something on the way, so the father tries to avoid traffic jams, hence the early start.
Luckily (Y/N) falls back asleep as soon as the car starts and doesn’t wake up before noon. “Daddy, I hungwy”, she pouts after jamming with him to several Disney songs he downloaded on a CD. A quick look to the clock confirms that it is in fact time for lunch. “Alright Baby, let Daddy find a nice place and we get food. What do you want?” “NUGGIES!” Matthew laughs and mutters to himself: “Well, that’s not exactly a surprise.”
Soon he finds a sweet diner off the highway and parks in front of it. With a few practised movements he gets (Y/N) out of her car seat and hoisted up on his hip. “You ready to get the little monster inside your tummy fed?” Matthew asks in a silly voice. Giggling she nods her head.
For lunch time the diner is relatively empty, not many tables are occupied. He finds both of them a small booth and sits her down on his lap for the moment. Only now the father spots the amazed look on his daughter’s face. “What is it, Honey?” “Who they?” She points at the various people in the establishment.
Quickly he puts her finger down, muttering how rude it is to point at someone. “They are humans, Baby.” “Omans? Wike us? More us?” Suddenly it hits him:
(Y/N) has never seen anybody else than him. All the other people she met were over the phone. How is she supposed to understand that they are real, too, when the ones on the TV aren’t?
“Yeah, there are many more. We are going to see so many of them. What do you think?” She seems to weigh her options as a nice looking waitress comes up to their table. “Hey Sweeties, what good can I do for you two? Do you need a high chair?” Matthew smiles at her. “Yes, please. We also are ready to order.”
After her departure to get their things, (Y/N) has come to a decision. “Nice all?” Her father nods. “Yes, most of them are as nice as the lady. We are going to see a really good friend of mine and his family, they are even nicer. There are also other kids. And we are going to visit your grandparents, they are also really nice. Are you excited?” An energetic nod is enough for him to know that this was the right decision.
On the next leg of the road trip (Y/N) is too excited to be quiet. She asks her father all sorts of questions. Has he met every human being? What are those, who aren’t nice? Does he like all of them? Are he and she nice people?
Happily he answers every single one of them, being as honest as possible. Matthew hopes that his daughter still turns out to be a people person like he is, even though she wasn’t exposed to many in her first months of life.
The first few days of their trip is pretty promising. They are now at Thomas’ house and especially Agatha is smitten by the little girl. Whenever Matthew is looking for her, both of them are in her room painting each other's nails (though the older one helps her out), playing hairdresser or watching a kids show.
The last 18 hours of the trip are tackled in two days. The main reason is that the little one got hooked on meeting new people and is way too hyped up to wait any longer to see her grandparents. So Matthew cancels a few plans and makes two out of three, he himself is also excited to meet up with his parents again.
“How wong?” (Y/N) asks from the backseat for what feels like the trillionth time. She already watched all of her favorite movies on her little tv in the headrest and due to the uneven street coloring isn’t an option. Luckily the destination is in sight. “Mhh, I think we are there in five minutes.” Children her age don’t have a sense for time yet, he knows that. Still, the father feels bad lying to her.
Finally they pull into the driveway, two people already waiting outside for them. After getting her out Matthew puts (Y/N) on his hip and makes his way over to his parents. “Baby, these are your grandma and grandpa. Can you say hello to them?”
But she tries to wiggle out of his grip, making the smiles on everybody’s faces fall. The father sets her down. Clumsily (Y/N) toddles over to them, colliding with her grandfather’s leg. “Hello, I love you!” She looks up at them sweetly. Her grandma has to restrain herself from letting the tears of happiness fall down.
“Hello there, Baby. We are so happy to finally meet you!” She says to the toddler, who now is in her grandfather’s arms.
It’s in this moment that Matthew decides his daughter is in fact a people person, which he is kind of relieved about, knowing that quarantine hasn’t taken anything from her.
His father shows him to join the group hug, being finally reunited as a family after all this time.
And now anti Tony people are blaming him for letting Sam’s family being in financial trouble wtf the man is dead! Let him rest!
Yeah, I saw.
They’re definitely going to keep doing that, gotta say, the MCU never failed with Tony's character, they created circumstances for him exactly just like Stan envisioned. The ‘love-to-hate’ trope is strong when it comes to him, this is what Stan wanted out of Tony Stark's relationship with his fans/audience. Thing is, the reality of the MCU superhero is that they’re all flawed. None of them are exempt from anything. Why Tony gets more hate than the others?
He’s the most popular character. There’s no discussion in this instance. Popular superheroes that first come to people’s minds are always Batman, Iron Man and Spider-Man. Tony Stark/Iron Man is a pop culture legend and the fact that RDJ got to portray him as great as he did, helped a lot. People are always going to circle back to the character who has more hype and audience.
He’s the one with the money. The fact that Tony is swimming in money automatically makes him the target of the ‘eat the rich’ mentality. People fail to remember that other characters such as T’Challa (who has more money than Tony would ever wish to see and lives in the most technologically advanced country in the world), Shuri, Thor (a literal king with a kingdom), The Pym family, Danny Rand (he has a net worth of $5 billion and is one of the richest comic book characters of all time), etc exist. And we still haven’t seen the other Marvel characters (in the MCU) that are richer than Tony like Reed Richards, Professor X, Warren Worthington, Norman Osborn, Namor, Doctor Doom, etc.
Even if some of us see RDJ as attractive and good looking, some people don’t. For them, RDJ is nothing compared to Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan, etc. It’s easier to hate a character you don’t find attractive. And also the fact that they find those actors relatively younger than RDJ.
It’s the most shippable character. This also means he must be in the way of some other ships. Even if this sounds unbelievable, many people don’t get their irrational hate for a character until it dawns on them that they only hate him because he either treated one half of their ship unfairly or because he’s in the way of that ship. The more reasons they can find to hate him, the more legitimate their senseless hatred seems in their minds.
People don’t call out characters like T’Challa or Shuri because they’re scared of being called ‘racist’. T’Challa is so rich that Howard Stark could only buy (just an assumption, it’s a possibility he stole the vibranium lmao) only a portion of vibranium to build Steve’s shield, and because is the world’s most indestructible material, his worth is approximately $10,000 a gram (Fantastic Four #607) and Wakanda's vaults hold 10,000 tons of the material (Doomwar #1) T’Challa is not a billionaire, he’s a trillionaire lmaoooo everyone else is a joke compared to him.
Even having all of this info, Tony and T’Challa owe nothing to anyone.
T’Challa helped Bucky because of his principles (Tony offered to do this at the beginning as well until of course, he found out he killed his parents) but because of that, that doesn't mean T’Challa owes Steve, Sam, Wanda, and Natasha money or housing assistance. He didn't give it to them at all and he doesn’t have to.
James Rhodes: Well. You guys really look like crap. Must've been a rough couple of years.
Sam Wilson: Yeah, well, the hotels weren't exactly five star.
Wanna know why? Because T’Challa knows they’re adults and they make their own decisions. Sam chose to be on Steve’s side, Wanda did too, Natasha too, etc. Adults make decisions and they should deal with the consequences that come with that. Tony was not going to deal with their financial problems because they made a choice and it’s not his problem to deal with. Tony is not their father. People need to ask themselves why Sam was not in the ‘lift the hammer’ scene after the party, because he wasn’t familiar with them, he wasn’t friends with Tony, only with Steve. Besides that fact, they all fought Tony, hurt his best friend, and left him to deal with the rest in CW. They’re not family.
Sam Wilson: No, I'm not actually sorry. I'm just trying to sound tough. I'm very happy chasing cold leads on our missing persons case. Avenging is your world. Your world is crazy. Steve Rogers: Be it ever so humble. Sam Wilson: You find a place in Brooklyn yet? Steve Rogers: I don't think I can afford a place in Brooklyn. Sam Wilson: Well, home is home, you know?
There’s absolutely no reason Steve can’t afford a place. He’s an adult, he has a good reputation, he worked for shield (why aren’t yall on Nick Fury’s ass if he had Steve and the others as employees? Fury set an entire place for Clint, why can’t he do it for the rest of them, he is the founder of the Avengers after all), and was pretty much capable of doing stuff for others. Tony provided them with a home while they were working together, he doesn’t need to concern himself with their personal problems because they’re not actual friends. Rhodey is his friend. Happy is his friend. Also consider the fact that maybe Sam didn’t want his help?
And let’s also take into consideration that Tony is not only an Avenger, but Tony is also a businessman, an inventor, an engineer, has a company to keep an eye on, he is the one who finances the Avengers’ messes and other superhero messes too by co-owning the department of damage control, etc. He has other things to do. The rest of the Avengers are adults too, they should seek a job that could give them a future too, not just depend on Tony’s money. Tony had a family and he had to make sure they were covered after his death, this includes, Pepper (his wife, therefore she gets his stuff), Peter (his son, he left him EDITH, he’s basically set for life with that given the A.I. has access to the majority of his things including bank accounts), Morgan (his daughter; his responsibility), Happy and Rhodey (I’m sure we’ll see what he left them in Armor Wars). Why? They’re his actual family.
If some of you know this and you’re still looking for reasons to put the blame on him, you’re failing to recognize you’re obsessed with hating Tony just for the sake of being right. Wouldn’t you like a life where you don’t have to constantly look for reasons to hate on a fictional character, better yet, a character you don’t like at all. Why the effort? You can love Tony and Sam at the same time, I promise you, this is not going to kill you.
So please, instead of whining about Tony Stark all the time, why don’t yall just enjoy the fact that the show is showing you a vital and important event that happens in life while representing a part of Sam’s life to add to his emotional depth and character development? Especially because he’s a superhero and possibly the next Captain America, it’s good to see someone who is supposed to be a figure (superhero) whose actions or achievements are far greater than what people expect deal with normal things. They’re giving you a background; a solid storyline for his character. Let it be. Enjoy the shows yall, you can’t keep coming back to blame Tony for everything that happens after every single movie or Disney+ show, look for another metaphorical punching bag. The man is dead.
The doctor (part 3)
Cedric Diggory x Reader
Summary - When a 25-year-old single father Cedric Diggory was woken up by his daughter to get shots he knew something was going to happen but not in the slightest bit did he know he was going to find new love. (Muggle AU)
Warnings - none
A/N Ahhh I am soooo sorry! I'm updating this is series after ages because my interest shifted from Cedric but its back! So have these! Sorry once again!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
You were indeed anxious for what might be the result of the hearing and that alone made it difficult for you to sleep that night. After tossing around in the bed trying to find a comfortable spot for you to fall asleep, you gave up the attempt and made a good decision in opening the psychology textbook that you have read over and over again for years.
Your eyes were blankly staring at the words that made no sense in your mind, the thoughts of the hearing leaving no space for it. You knew how much it meant to Charlotte and Cedric and you could only hope for Cedric to get his daughter’s custody.
It was wonderful seeing Cedric with his little girl. You watched as he held her in his arms, looking at her as though he would bring the stars down for her. You had also seen her mother in a situation that made you simply despise her. How could she leave such an angel in the care of a man who loved her so dearly and hope for them to be a family? And then fight for custody of the very daughter she left after years? It would always bewilder you.
Charlotte was indeed such an angel, and you could see how much she adored you that immediately felt a surge of protectiveness washing over you when you were with her.
You didn’t know when sleep had overtaken you but the next thing you remember was someone shaking your shoulder.
You blinked your eyes to clear the sleep out of them and the first thing you saw was Cedric’s sparking grey eyes, smilingly in hurry although never failing to captivate you. He stopped fretting for a moment before shaking his head and whispered, “I have to leave now. Is it alright for you to take care of Charlotte today, right?”
“You're leaving already?” You checked the time on your phone and it was 4 in the morning.
“Yeah, you will be able to be alone with her, right?” Cedric asked, concerned.
You nodded, “Yep,” you managed to stand up straight and followed him outside your room. Cedric grabbed a cereal bar from the kitchen counter on his way to this door.
Before leaving he turned around, looking at you unsure, “If you don’t mind can you be in her room? There is a couch in the room. I'm sorry but she is afraid to-”
”Cedric,” you chuckled, “I will be with her, don’t worry. She's in safe hands,”
He breathed of relief and looked at you for a second standing there awkwardly. You took a deep breath and pulled him in for a quick hug, not providing Cedric enough time to sink in the comfort of your arms, and think of dropping all his plans.
“Your gonna rock it, I promise,” You smiled at him and patted his arm. Cedric looked relieved when he stepped out of the door and took a deep breath. He dreaded the day.
You sighed and closed the door after him. Dragging your feet to the kitchen, you gulped down a glass of water. It was all a mess beyond any ability of comprehension in the sleepy state of your mind. Blindly complying with what was told, you left to Charlotte's room, silently.
Smiling at the elegantly placed pillow and blanket on the couch, you glanced at a fast asleep Charlotte, and allowed the sleep to take over you once again.
Tumblr media
"(Y/N)?" For the second that day, you had shot up in alarm, only to recognise a similar pair of shining grey eyes and relax.
“Charlotte, what’s wrong?” You sat up and asked with a hoarse voice. She whimpered and looked at her hands. You noticed how her breathing rate quickened and her bottom lip wobbled and you didn’t need to be a detective to know what had happened.
“Come here, honey,” You opened you arms as an invitation for her to climb onto your lap which she did without an ounce of hesitation.
“Its alright, darling, I’m right her with you,” you said and patted her back. You rocked the two of you slightly and tried to calm her down.
“I love you,” you heard her whisper and felt your breath get caught in your lungs. You blinked twice and slowly let out a breathy chuckle.
“What did you say? Charlotte? Darling? You asleep, already?” you said but received no response in return.
You sighed and mumbled an “I love you too,” back and leaned against the couch. Rubbing circles in the small of her back and you were certain you would not be able to sleep any longer.
Tumblr media
Charlotte had laid in your arms till noon and prevented you from doing almost anything. Unable to control you’re bladder anymore, you laid her on the bed and quickly left to the restroom.
When you returned to the bedroom after brushing your teeth, you were thankful to see Charlotte stirring, “Good morning, love,” You greeted warmly and grinned. Crawling onto the bed, you sat next to her and leaned against the headboard.
“Good morning,” She threw an arm over your lap and rolled over towards you, her eyes still closed. You chuckled and ran your finger through her curls.
“Where is daddy?” she asked and pulled away to look at you in the eyes.
You sighed and thought of reason to tell her, not having the energy to tell her he was out in a court fighting for her with her mother. You resorted to a simpler and easier answer, “Your daddy is out, darling, he will be back soon,”
“When will he be back?”
“I don’t know, honey. He will call us when he leaves,” you said, massaging her scalp. She hummed and pouted, “Why didn’t papa tell me he was going out?”
You took a minute to wonder why she called her father with different names at different times without any reason. You blinked and shook your head, “It was – uh – a sudden plan, darling! That’s why he couldn’t tell you because you were fast asleep when he decided it,”
“When did papa tell you?” She asked, her big eyes staring at you, hopefully, like you had answers to every question of hers; perhaps, it was trust. It wrenched your heart as you provided false answers to her question but she didn’t need to know of them just yet.
“Early in the morning. I think about 4 when my little girl was fast asleep, snoring,” You tickled her sides and watched proudly as she giggled but didn’t pull away rather moved closer to you and tugged at your hands.
“Alright, alright,” You took her into your arms and stood up from the bed, “You’re going to go brush now and I’m going to try to make you some-”
“Pancakes!” She yelled, raising her hand in the air.
You chuckled, “Pancakes, is it, then!” you let her down and pushed her gently to the bathroom, “Now, go brush,”
She stood at the entrance of the bathroom, and turned to glare at you with her hands on her hips, “Papa used to brush me,”
You narrowed your eyes at her playfully, and copied her position, “I live with you for over a week, darling. Now, go brush,”
“I can’t reach!” She whined, stomping her foot.
“Your just like your father, aren’t you?” You shook your head and took her in your arms again and placed her on your hips.
“What?” she scrunched her eyebrows, adorably.
“Both of you get what you want,” you said, pinching the tip of her nose, lightly. She giggled and buried her head in your shoulder.
Tumblr media
Hours passed and Charlotte spent the time without much thoughts of her father rather warmed up to you in the comfort of your couch, happily watching Disney movies with you. Then, came your much awaited ring. You darted to your phone and picked up immediately, Charlotte bounding after you and jumping up and down the couch as you answered the call.
“Hello?”
“The hearing is finished. I’m coming home, now,”
“How did it go?”
“I’ll tell you everything when I get there,”
“Alright. Oh, wait, wait, don’t cut the call, Charlotte wants to speak to you,”
“Yep,”
“Daddy!”
“Hey darling. Are you enjoying your day, puppy?”
“Yes, papa! (Y/N) is soo fun! When you come back can you get me some chocolates, papa? You told me you’d get them,”
“Of course, my love!”
“Love you, papa!”
“Love you too, darling!”
“Papa is coming home with chocolates!” She jumped into your arms. You chuckled and spun around with her secured in your clutch.
Within fifteen minutes of her excitement, the door bell rang and Charlotte was more than happy to receive her father. Opening the door for her, you anxiously leaned to look at Cedric, worried of the result of the hearing.
You were relived to see him catch his daughter in his arms and pepper her face with kisses, a wide grin on his face, “I love you, darling!”
“I love you too, daddy!” Her little arms were wrapped tightly around his neck and her head was buried into the crook of his neck when he stepped into the home.
The beautiful grin on his handsome face brought tingles to your stomach and you felt your heart swell.
‘We won,’ he mouthed, tears stinging his eyes. The years of struggle finally paid off and he had his daughter t himself. He no more had to fight to be her father. He no more had to leave her alone to that damned hearing every other time.
You placed a hand over your mouth and nodded asking for a reconfirmation. A  rapid nod in response and both of you resisted the urge from just pulling the other into a tight, warm hug.
“Puppy?” Cedric leaned back to look at charlotte in the eyes. The pad of his thumb rubbed over her cheek as he kissed her forehead, “You’re my little girl, darling,”
Charlotte giggled although he could see the confusion in her eyes. Cedric ruffled her hair, “We are going out tonight,”
“Where, papa?!” Charlotte asked, smiling widely making his heart swell with love and pride.
Cedric kissed her cheek, “To the restaurant down the street,”
“Can we get shawarmas!?” She asked, excitement bubbling in her eyes.
“Anything you want, my love!” Cedric said and looked back at you, “Get ready, alright? We will leave within half an hour,”
“Me too?” you asked, taken aback.
“Yes, of course,”
“Uh, alright,” You fiddled with your fingers, nervously and nodded your head, hesitant, “Sure,”
Tumblr media
The sun was already setting by the time you left the home, dressed casually. Cedric and you stood on either side of Charlotte, who held your hands tightly and spoke as she pleased.
To the onlookers the three of you would have looked like a little happy family with a loving father, a caring mother and their little princess. They would have noticed him looking at you with much admiration in his eyes and watch your eyes skim over his handsome features when he wasn’t looking. They would have seen love weaving the three of you into a tightly knit family wrapped in warmth and protected against everything.
Hi Chekhov! Really enjoying your white diamond au! I had a quick art question: How do you start comissions? I've been improving my drawing skills and thinking about drawing for others after having fun in artfight, but I don't know where to start? How much to charge, how to get paid, etc. Do you have any tips? Hope you're doing well! :)
Alright, since a few people have asked, I’ve decided to put together a few things about how to get started on commissions - what you need, what you should make, and how to keep things organized.
This will get a little long, so I’ll divide it into 4 main sections:
1) Draw Art - Getting started
2) Get Commissioned - Making a commission sheet, Advertising
3) ??? - Communicating, Setting Limits, Running the Business
4) Profit - Pricing Yourself and Getting Paid
* Disclaimer: I’m an artist, so this How-To will be illustration-focused. I’m sure many of these tips can apply to ANY types of commissions, but I will be focusing on the type I know best. If you are proficient in other types of commissions for other types of art - music commissions, photography, etc - feel free to chime in and leave a comment or make your own tutorial!
Tumblr media
1) Draw Art
I think this is probably the most obvious part, but it needs to be said:
Before you start making art for other people, you must first be comfortable making art in general.
I’m not saying your art has to be Disney-quality, or industry-level! Not at all.
BUT! You must be comfortable creating what you sell. If you try to sell something you have little confidence in, you will stress yourself out and possibly end up losing time AND money.
Don’t shoot for the moon if you haven’t landed on it even once. Sell what you know you’re good at. Your commissions don’t HAVE to include full-body illustrations if you don’t know how to draw feet/solid stances. Limit yourself to what you can do.
Things you need to should probably have before starting commissions:
1. Access to art materials or a fully downloaded art program
DO NOT - Use a free tutorial version that will expire in a month and leave you without a way to draw! If you are having trouble finding a program, try free ones like MediBang Paint Pro.
2. Free time to complete the amount of commissions you want to take.
DO NOT - Take on or offer commissions if you KNOW you’re going to be overwhelmed with school or personal life for the next 2+ months. Pace yourself, otherwise you’ll burn out, get stressed, and get discouraged.
3. A reliable way to communicate with your customers like a commissions-only email
DO NOT - Use your friend/family/college email. It’s hard to keep track of things as it is, and creating new emails is easy and free. And keep it professional if you can! Not many people will reach out to dong-wiggles20434 to ask for a design. Ideally, your email should be close to your brand - however you want to brand yourself. Usernames are fine!)
DO NOT - Use Instagram/Twitter/Tumblr to collect commission info unless you are ready to do the organizing yourself. Some people make it work, but in my experience, if you use these SNS sites to communicate with friends and network... you’re going to be losing commission inquiries right and left and accidentally ignoring people. Email is much easier to organize and sort into folders.
4. A portfolio or at least 2-3 pieces of each type of art you’re planning to sell.
DO NOT - Advertise commissions without having any examples of the art you plan to sell. People will find it difficult to trust you if you can’t even give them a vague idea of what sort of drawing they’ll be getting.
Disclaimer: These are not hard ‘do not’s. If you have had a different experience, I respect that. I’m simplifying for the sake of streamlining this advice.
.
2) Get Commissioned
So - you have your art, you have your art program, and you’ve got all the time in the world. That means.... that’s right! It’s time to let the world know you’re taking commissions.
One of the most common ways artists signal to their audience that they can do commissions is by creating a commissions sheet. There are MANY ways to make this - and they range from simple and doodly ones to VERY complex designs. For example, here’s mine!
There are many ways to organize a commission sheet. At its core, a commission sheet should display the types of art you WANT to be commissioned to make. Let’s go over a few ways they can be done!
Tumblr media
#1.... Body Portion Dividers!
Tumblr media
This sheet is most common with those who want to capitalize on drawing people and characters. If you want to draw lots of characters, this is a great way to offer several tiers of pricing based on how much of their character your customers want to see.
#2... Complexity Scale
Tumblr media
If you’re open to drawing many things but want to base your pricing off of how complex something is, you can split your tiers into done-ness. This type of commission is popular with those that draw characters AND animals, furries, etc.
#3....  Style and Type
Tumblr media
If you’re more on the design side of things, or if you have various niche art styles that you can’t quite lump together, display a variety of your skills alongside each other! It helps if all the ones you have can be organized under a common customer - like those looking to advance their own business and get logos, websites, or mascots made for them!
.
3) ???
You got your first commission... what happens now???
Well, ideally you have the time, tools and motivation to make things happen! Now all you have to do is... sit down and... draw.......
I’m going to say something that may be a little controversial:
Commissions aren’t fun.
No, no, hear me out: I have fun doing commissions! I genuinely enjoy drawing characters and coming up with designs. But even with all that said, commissions are, first and foremost: WORK
I’m not saying this to discourage you, I’m saying this to keep things realistic. When I first began commissions, I thought it would be just like any other type of drawing. I would sit down, imagine a thing, draw it... it would be fun!
But then I realized that I couldn’t just draw what I wanted - another person had an idea in mind and had asked me to do it. I stressed over getting the design correct from descriptions. I stressed over not having the right reference for the pose the commissioner wanted. I stressed over not being able to draw the leg right in the way I had promised I would do. I stressed about billing. I stressed about digital money transfers. It was difficult, and time-consuming, and I did not enjoy it. At all.
Tumblr media
And a part of that is definitely on the commissioner - we, as artists, NEED to demand proper references or descriptions. We, as artists, NEED to limit the amount of changes we’re going to make at the flick of a finger. We NEED to demand clear instructions and set boundaries. That’s also super important.
But also - don’t be discouraged if you find yourself exhausted drawing your first commission. MANY artists go through this. Adjust your rules, fix up your limits, practice putting your foot down on finicky commissioners who expect you to read their mind! It does get easier, but you have to communicate and put in the effort and act as your own manager AND your own customer service AND your own accountant. That’s what you’re looking at.
Good limits and boundaries to set:
Limit the amount of changes a person can ask to make. “I want blue hair.” Next email: “No wait, yeah, make it red.” Next email: “Actually I changed my mind, can I get the blue but like, lighter?” Next email: “No, not that light.” ... At some point, we have to stop. I personally allow 2-3 changes on the final stages of a commission before I start refusing or start asking for extra money.
Demand clear instructions and/or references. If something isn’t described, you have to take artistic liberty and design it, but that’s difficult! And if the customer is not happy with it but can’t tell you more? That’s not your problem - the burden of reference is on THEM. You cannot read their mind, and that’s not your fault.
Get at least half the payment up front! This is a good balance between the ‘pay before art’ and the ‘pay after art’ conundrum that will limit the amount of woes between artist and customer. (I’ll touch upon this a little more in the Profit section.)
Organization:
Where possible, create good habits! Tag your emails and organize your folders. I have a tag on my emails for active and finished commissions. I also keep my emails on Unread until I have time to sit down and properly look at/reply to them.
My Commissions in the folder are also organized chronologically and I mark down which ones are paid and which ones are not.
Tumblr media
(I understand not everyone can do this, but if you want to give it a try, it does make things easier in the long run. Again, this advice is just what I have found personally helps.)
One last thing - I do not want to shame ANYONE for taking their time with commissions! Commissions are complex, and they take time and work. You can draw in 8 hours, but some things take research, materials, etc. Some illustrations realistically take up to half a year, or, depending on what’s involved, several years!!
THAT BEING SAID - it’s good manners to be upfront with your customers about how long you expect the commission to take. If you think you’re busy, just say that! Explain that you have a lot going on, and you will probably take (insert time period here).
And if your commissioners are worried, work out a system to keep them updated! I send my commissioners updates when I finish the lineart/flat colors/etc and I try to be clear about how long everything will take. I try to estimate with a +3-5 days buffer to give myself extra time... and recently I’ve been using it. Always say a bigger number than you think you’ll need.
If someone wants a rushed commission... make them pay more. If ANYONE wants a commission done ‘by the end of the week’ - that’s an automatic rush-job for me because I’m juggling an irl job and several commissions at once. I WILL charge a rush fee and I won’t feel bad about it.
If someone wants a commission within 24 hours...... Well, they better be paying you 3x your normal amount, or more. And remember - you CAN refuse! It’s perfectly reasonable to say ‘No, sorry, that sort of turnaround time is not realistic for me.’
Food For Thought - Invoicing
Many artists I’ve commissioned in the past have not used Invoicing, but I’ve recently begun to fill out invoices and file them in my Commissions folder just to keep track of things. It’s not necessary until you start getting into the Small Business side of Freelancing, but it’s not a bad idea to get into the habit early in case you might need to do it later for tax purposes.
Here’s what my Invoice looks like, for example.
Tumblr media
I’ve optimized it to help me remember who, what, and how much is involved! It also contains important info for my customers like where to send the money.
Which brings us to...
.
4) Profit
One of the hardest things for artists is pricing themselves. I’m not going to tell you which way is BEST - there is no BEST way, only the best way for YOU.
One of the options available to you is pricing by the hour. It includes averaging out how long it takes you to draw a specific type of art (whatever you’re offering as a commission) and multiplying that by an hourly wage you’ve decided on.
Tumblr media
When you do this, I stress - do NOT price yourself below minimum wage if you can help it. When you first start out, aim for the $15/hour mark and adjust accordingly.
Other ways to price your art:
- Per complexity: Portraits vs full body should be scaled based on how difficult you find one vs. the other. You can also easily decide on a price for a sketch and double it for lineart, triple it for full color, etc.
- Per type: Look up for industry prices for website design and logo design. They may surprise you! You don’t have to charge that much, but it helps to keep things in perspective.
It’s okay to change your prices! Keep your commission sheet image handy so you can update the amounts as you grow. :)
Payment up front or after completion?
Some artist take full payment up front. Some only demand payment after they’ve finished and sent out the piece. I personally think these are both risky for everyone involved.
I recommend doing at least HALF of the payment BEFORE you start the commission. Calculate your full price and ask for half before you start working on it in earnest, to make sure the person can actually pay you. Then, when they receive the full piece and are satisfied, they can complete the payment.
I personally work in this structure:
> Someone emails me with their idea/reference
> I send back a rough draft sketch that shows the idea/pose (only takes me 10-20 minutes so not a huge loss if they ghost) and quote them a price
> They can pay the full thing upfront OR pay half
> I finish the commission and send updates when I do the lineart/colors to double check anything so they have multiple chances to spot any errors
> If the person paid only half on completion, I send them a low-res version of the finished thing, they finish up their payment and THEN I send them the full-res version plus any other filetypes/CYMK proofs, etc.
Many of the people who commission me pay me up front even though I offer they pay half - and I’m really flattered that they trust me that much! Because of that, I feel encouraged to update them frequently and ask for their input as I work, so they have the peace of mind knowing I’m actually doing their commission.
Great, but how do I get PAID????
There are NUMEROUS ways - these days money is relatively easy to transfer over digital means, and you have a few options.
Tumblr media
Paypal is perhaps one of the oldest digital wallets and is geared towards businesses. By setting up a PayPal and connecting it to your debit card of bank account, you can tunnel a pathway from your online business directly into your hands in a matter of days.
Paypal also offers Invoicing - you make an invoice, price it and send it to the person’s email and they can pay whatever way they need! (It also allows partial payments.)
Pros: transfers from PayPal to bank account are free, and take a couple of business days. It also has no upper limit to the amount of money you can move in/out each month. It can force refunds due to the nature of its business-oriented payment system.
Cons: Because it’s used by businesses for larger transactions, PayPal may demand a more rigorous proof of your identity. It may also take longer to set up and be harder to get used to. I’ve also heard that they can be a hassle when it comes to closing your account.
Tumblr media
Venmo is another type of digital wallet that acts much like paypal, except for a few key differences - it is NOT made for businesses (so depending on whether you’re officially registered as a freelancer, you may not be able to use it). I personally don’t use venmo, so I cannot speak to its usefulness, but I know a few people that use it for casual transactions. It’s easy and quick! :)
Keep in mind that you cannot force a refund over venmo! The transactions are final.
There’s also CashApp, GooglePay (which could load gift cards but also allows peer-to-peer transactions) and I’ve heard good things about Due, though I’ve never personally used it.
Other ways to pay: I’ve had people pay me over Patreon by upping their pledge, and I’ve had people pay me over Ko-Fi by donating a specific amount.
Many people even use Etsy - the website specialized for independent small businesses selling art - by listing their commission sheet and offering up several ‘slots’ of commissions, which allows you to track taxes AND allows your clients to pay using whatever they feel comfortable with.
If you’re in Canada, you can even pay by emailing money directly from bank account to bank account - check whether your country offers this type of service! There’s no shortage of ways to move money in the digital world.
Just like everything else, there’s no singular ‘Best’ way. It just depends on what works for you.
I think that just about wraps it up! I can’t quite think of what else to put here - but I’m sure other artists will chime in with their own advice. :) I’m very sorry this became so long but I hope it was helpful!
Obligatory Disclaimer: I’m not qualified to give legal or accounting counsel. Please double-check the laws in your own country/state in regards to taxation of freelancing work and do your own research. If you are underage, DEFINITELY get an adult’s permission before you start doing commissions, and have the adult help you through the process.
MCU Loki: Why I fear they failed to deliver what they promised
At this point I’m kind of confused by who the “Loki” series is trying to reach or which is the goal/message they’re trying to pass along.
They had tried to intrigue assorted audience but, if you ask me, the series has often failed to deliver what it seemed to promise.
Of course I might be wrong. Or maybe I'm not seeing another type of audience the series aimed and managed to reach.
When the series started I wanted to keep a positive mentality and hope whatever seemed not to work would be fixed along the way or have a reason for existing that I just wasn't seeing because I hadn't seen the full story yet.
However, after 5 episodes I'm starting to lose hope the series will make a genuine effort to reach the fans at whom it seemed to aim.
PART 1 – “LOKI” IS NOT FOR THE OLD FANS WHO PRODUCED META SHOWING HOW HIS TRAUMA DAMAGED HIM
"I think it's the struggle with identity, who you are, who you want to be. I'm really drawn to characters who are fighting for control. Certainly you see that with Loki over the first 10 years of movies, he's out of control at pivotal parts of his life, he was adopted and everything and that manifest itself through anger and spite towards his family." [Loki's Struggle With His Identity Confirmed To Be A Focus Of His Disney+ Series]
What was it about Loki as a character that attracted you? He’s just fun, for one. He has a very playful sense of humor about him. I like how he never quite lets you know what he’s thinking. Beyond that, what I connect to about him is the same thing the legions of fans do, which is his humanity and his vulnerability. This is a guy who—yes, on the one hand, he was the prince of Asgard, seems like a nice life—but his father, in fact, killed his actual birth father, adopted him, lied to him about his heritage and parentage his entire life, he was forced to live in the shadow of his oafish older brother who was born to be king. He’s experienced a lot of trauma, and I think that what he’s looking for is just a little bit of control over his life. Which he feels like maybe he’s never quite had. That’s something I think we can all relate with. [From Loki to Doctor Strange and Star Wars, Michael Waldron Is the New Franchise Whisperer]
Let’s be honest, the audience for the “Loki” series is not really meant to be Marvel movies old time fans who enjoyed “Thor” and “The Avengers”, made countless Meta analyzing Loki’s behaviour and who wanted answers about what happened to Loki prior to “The Avengers” or wanted to see Loki’s family terrible dynamics be discussed, or at least to see explored the wrong dynamics of Loki’s interracial adoption (he’s taken away from his planet, the truth is hidden from him, his look is changed to disguise him as an Asgardian, nothing is done against the racial hate for the Jotuns at which Loki is exposed, even witnessing it from his brother) or talk how much in control of himself Loki was during “The Avengers” (okay, the web said the sceptre manipulated Loki, but what about acknowledging that in his own series? It doesn’t have to come from Loki who had no idea he was manipulated but someone could mention ‘think yourself lucky here the stones don’t work, they’ve the nasty tendency to manipulate people’).
The series has avoided digging into all that as much as they could.
Even when Loki talks with Sylvie, the most we get is a small big about how Frigga was awesome in his eyes and taught him magic, but this isn’t meant to explain any of the issues Loki had with his family, it just make Sylvie feel bad because she can’t remember her adoptive mother, as for the D.B. Cooper born out of a bet with Thor, yeah, fun but completely random. What’s meant to be the message about family dynamics here, that it was the bets between Thor and Loki that caused Loki to decide to conquer Earth? Or what about the Sif loop? Is it there to push on Loki the blame of his poor relation with Sif?
No, clearly not.
In regard to Loki the Frigga flashback is there to remark he had a loving and supportive family while the other two are there to have Loki admit he is ‘a mischievous scamp’, ‘a horrible person’ and ‘a narcissist’.
To put it in Classic Loki’s words: ‘Damn it! Animals, animals! We lie and we cheat, we cut the throat of every person who trusts us, and for what? Power. Glorious power. Glorious purpose! We cannot change. We're broken, every version of us. Forever. And whenever one of us dares try to fix themselves, they're sent here to die.’
In short it’s all Loki’s fault if he does bad, nothing happened to him that could have messed him up, he’s just a horrible person… however…
PART 2 – “LOKI” IS NOT FOR THE OLD AND NEW FANS WHO BELIEVED LOKI TO BE A DANGEROUS, EVIL, PSYCHOPATH VILLAIN EITHER
"Loki is an a**, and that makes my life as a writer, easy." ... "Due to the trauma in Loki’s life, I would even [accept a story] in which he is committed to being all bad." [Michael Waldron on Loki: He’s an a**. That makes things easy]
Considering the series is trying to pin SOLELY on Loki his wrongdoing, completely skipping the toxic way in which he was raised you might think they want to paint him as an evil, psychopath who was just born bad.
But no, that’s not the intention, we see it from the start.
Loki is given a quick briefing on how his beloved family loved him despite him hurting them, a briefing that contains false information which would work if we accept the briefing as manipulative but, at this point I’m not so sure that was the author’s intent. The Doylist purpose of the briefing is clearly to show the audience how Loki cares for his family, how he still has feelings, feels pain at the idea Frigga and Odin died and wish to make up with his brother.
It’s not just they loved him and did nothing wrong toward him, it’s also he who loved them and didn’t mean to harm them. That’s why we’re fed that damn discourse about Loki sending the Dark Elves to kill Frigga, because the series wants to remark that no, Loki didn’t want to kill his family, he loved them.
Tom Hiddleston used to say what Loki is came from a place of pain but the series didn’t explore that place of pain… it just gave him more pain and not just in episode 1. Episode 2 has him discovering Asgard is destroyed, episode 3 has him remembering Frigga, episode 4 shows him believing Sylvie die and watching Mobius being pruned. He doesn’t cry in Ep 5, episode 5 wants us to truly feel bad for Sylvie, not for him, but there’s a lot of bitterness from Classic Loki who commits a heroic suicide so you might say we get a sad Loki anyway.
And this also works as a shock to make him change his mind about his ‘glorious purposes’. Sorta, with Thor reminding us he’s not so bad and Loki explaining his behaviour as “I don't enjoy hurting people. I... I don't enjoy it. I do it because I have to, because I've had to. Because it's part of the illusion. It's the cruel, elaborate trick conjured by the weak to inspire fear.”
Plot-wise, this is completely useless.
The show will prove Sylvie is not Loki and has completely different motivations and Mobius, being an expert in Variants, should know.
What’s more why would Mobius care if Loki enjoys hurting people or not?
His goal is to capture Sylvie with Loki’s help. The most he should care about is how to keep Loki loyal to him, not if Loki has fun hurting people or not which, in fact, is a knowledge that won’t be used in his investigation.
No, this is here for the viewers, to tell them Loki isn’t a sadistic, evil villain, he’s someone weak who tries to scare others so as not to look weak. As Mobius will put in ‘a scared little boy, shivering in the cold’ who has an ‘insecure need for validation’.
What’s more?
The show will try his hardest to establish he’s not even competent.
Let’s talk of him as a fighter.
In the movies Loki is a competent fighter and side material establish he’s pretty strong, definitely much more than a human.
In “The Avengers” we see Captain America needs Iron Man’s help to beat him and, anyway, Loki’s plan was to be captured. Loki manages to walk away on his feet when Coulson hits him with that superspecial weapon and it’ll take him to be Hulk smashed after a fight with Thor and a meeting with an explosive arrow of Hawkeye before he can’t fight any longer.
This doesn’t happen in the “Loki” series.
Loki gets beaten up by various people in 4 episodes, preferably women (B-15, the people possessed by Sylvie, the guards on the train, Sif). You might say in episode 5 he’s not but actually Classic Loki is the one who gets swallowed by Alioth and our Loki instead survives because he has Sylvie supporting him as, on his own he couldn’t even distract Alioth.
Let’s talk of him as a wizard.
He can use magic, impressive magic but… it serves him mostly nothing. In the TVA his magic doesn’t work. Outside of it is mostly useless. It doesn’t help win fights. The Tempad he caused to disappear gets broken. To beat Alioth they needs enchantment, not his own magic. What’s more, when they’ve to go on the train his disguise wouldn’t have worked without Sylvie’s enchantment and, if this wasn’t enough, he got drunk, removed the disguise and wasn’t even able to make tickets appear.
Classic Loki too, with his impressive illusions is ultimately a distraction. Alioth tears easily through his illusions which aren’t even solid.
Let’s talk of him as a planner.
All Loki will accomplish is to escape from the Time theatre for a brief period in episode 1 and figure out Sylvie hides in apocalypses in episode 2. The rest of his plans fails or are not plan or are mocked over and not even put into practice.
Let’s talk about him as a manipulator with a silver tongue.
He can’t even persuade Mobius when he’s telling him the truth, Mobius dismisses it as a lie due to ‘cockroach's survival mechanism’.
And psychologically?
He’s just someone who crave attention because he’s a narcissist scared of being alone. Not a psychopath.
Loki is not meant to be a dangerous, evil, psychopath villain in this series, he’s a not serious man, a clown, a scared little boy in need of attention, a narcissist who needs to be loved.
Welcome to cartoon villain Loki, this Loki isn’t the Variant of “The Avengers” Loki, he’s the Variant of “Avengers Assemble”Loki… only he’s even less competent than him.
PART 3 – “LOKI” IS NOT EVEN HERE FOR GENERAL MARVEL MOVIE FANS
"That's a lot of Infinity Stones. That's true but they are useless there in the TVA, so I don't know. Is that gun loaded or not? We'll see..." [Loki Writer Comments On Whether TVA’s Infinity Stones Will Return In MCU]
“We had to create an insane institutional knowledge of how time travel would work within the TVA so the audience never has to think about it again. It was a lot of drawings of squiggly timelines.” Marvel already made its case for how time travel works in Avengers: Endgame, but that, Waldron points out, “is the way the Avengers understand it.” With a TV show it’s a little different. “I was always very acutely aware of the fact that there’s a week between each of our episodes and these fans are going to do exactly what I would do, which is pick this apart. We wanted to create a time-travel logic that was so airtight it could sustain over six hours. There’s some time-travel sci-fi concepts here that I’m eager for my Rick and Morty colleagues to see.” [How the Man Behind LokiIs Shaping Marvel’s Phase 4 and Beyond]
BC: The TVA is there to clean everybody up? MW: Yeah, Avengers: Endgame… that's how The Avengers understand time travel. 'Loki,' episode one, is how the TVA explains time travel to Loki and we're certainly building on what's come before us. [Loki: Michael Waldron On Gender Fluidity, Mephisto, Time Travel & More]
It’s true “Loki” is focusing on a new corner of the MCU but it interconnects very poorly with the movies before it.
Although Loki escaped with the Tesseract... it just dismisses completely the Infinity Stones.
Despite talking a lot about timelines and creating branching realities it waved away the whole plot of "Avengers: Endgame" as apparently supposed to happen even though it should have created branching realities.
We see Renslayer wave away how the Avengers went in the past causing the Tesseract to end up in Loki’s hands... and all the other things the Avengers did that affected the past goes unmentioned.
Bruce meeting the Ancient, Thor meeting his mother and taking away Thor’s hammer, Rocket being seen as he steals the reality stone from Jane, Tony stealing a suitcase and damaging the place in which the Tesseract was kept then meeting Howard Stark, 4 flacons of Pyn particles missing, an alarm given to the military bases, how Steve managed to bring back the sceptre if that timeline was pruned, how a timeline handled being without Thanos and Co as they went in the future or how they clearly didn’t bring the orb back the second they took it as Nebula remained unconscious there and nobody came and when she woke up Thanos could get her. It didn’t even explain why Steve remaining with Peggy didn’t change anything.
It's not that the audience has all explained... it's that they were told to dismiss it as 'meant to happen' and that was it.
What's more, the TVA apparently didn't list a finger to stop 2014 Thanos from going in the future and causing Tony Stark's death.
As if this wasn't enough, “Loki” just skips any possible connection with the movies, even hands Loki false information about them (he lead the Dark Elves to his mother when Loki had no idea the Kurse was a Dark Elf and they would have found her anyway as they were searching for the Aether which Malekith could sense, he’s born solely to cause pain and suffering and death, overlooks how he saved Jane twice or helped the Asgardian escape Hela) and never discusses them again.
Even with Classic Loki, who’s a Variant of “Avengers: Infinity War” Loki, they don’t talk about what happened after Loki’s supposed dead, apparently hinting it was better if he died, nor explain how Loki knew Thor survived.
PART 4 – “LOKI” IS NOT REALLY OFFERING A GOOD REPRESENTATION FOR FEMALES EVEN THOUGH IT CLEARLY AIMS AT FEMALE AUDIENCE
Let’s make a quick experiment.
Everyone, let’s name all the characters we remember which appeared in more than 1 episode of “Loki” for more than one minute.
We’ve, of course, Loki, Mobius, B-15, Renslayer, Sylvie, C-20 and Miss Minute.
5 females versus 2 males.
What’s more, females are not sexualized, they remains completely dressed, they’re clearly not there to attract male gazes, they’re represented as strong, dangerous, in control, something archived often by showing them beating males either physically or intellectually or in rank.
It seems promising. At first.
Is there someone who’s sexualized?
The “Loki” series takes care to offer us Tom Hiddleston naked.
So since there’s an abundance of females in the cast and Tom Hiddleston is shown naked is it aiming at a female audience?
Very, very likely but… but how’s then handled all this?
When Loki is seen undressed he’s not in a situation of power, like Thor who’s twice shows half naked in his movies but because he’s changing/washing and perfectly comfortable in showing his body and once in a situation which could be a male forbidden fantasy, to have many women massage your naked body, no, he’s shown as he’s powerless while being stripped by a machine. Clearly not a male power fantasy, more like a male nightmare.
And, in a totally not surprising way, pictures of this scene were spread by many female fans because it was aimed at them… though a part of them, was also honestly appalled at seeing this scene in contest, finding the forced stripping humiliating and degrading.
Sure, a naked Tom Hiddleston makes a nice eye-candy but this wasn’t how Loki’s many fans wanted to see Loki naked.
But let’s talk of female representation here, since the show seems to be interested in female audience… only who even though this was the representation women wanted doesn’t understand much of women representation in the first place.
Why?
For start because women here are all the same type of woman.
Strong fighters who’re in control and confident, with no real characterization beyond this to speak of despite the large amount of screen time.
Renslayer is an ex-hunter who can fight one on one against Sylvie and who clearly has the position of power she has because she was good as a hunter and shows her abilities in fighting after that Sylvie had beaten 2 guards at the same time. B-15 is introduced by beating Loki and is the commander of a squad. C-20 is another commander and, albeit possessed, can dispose of a part of her squad members.
Do I need to spend words on how Sylvie is depicted as this awesome fighter who has learnt to fight by herself, can keep at bay more than 1 Minuteman, can use a sword, has learnt enchantment on her own and is feared by all the TVA? Do I?
And it’s awesome to have women who are strong fighters in positions of command/power/control… but why women has to be represented as just that?
Even when they add a female as an one episode cameo, it's Sif, beating the hell out of Loki. And what about the Lady in Lamentis 1 who was too old to be strong but managed to blast away both Loki and Sylvie seeing through their deceptions?
Even the harmless Miss Minute can avoid being hit by Loki and gets she has to pretend to do researches to stall Sylvie and save Renslayer.
Women kick asses here… but that’s all they’re good for.
And so we get to Sylvie, who is the superior Loki Variant… because she’s female.
Kid Loki: You're different. Why? Loki: No, I'm not, you see? I'm the same, really. I'm the same as all of you. Have any of you met a woman Variant of us? Classic Loki: Sounds terrifying. Loki: Oh, she is. But that's kind of what's great about her. She's different. She's not trying to take over the TVA, she's trying to take it down. And she needs me. Now, you said Alioth is what keeps us here. You said it's a living thing. You said it's a shark. Well, if it lives, it dies. So I'm gonna kill the shark. I'm gonna kill Alioth, and I could use all the help I can get.
That’s what Loki preaches to his fellow Lokis who think a woman Loki would be terrific.
I mean, they’ve an alligator Loki, a POC Loki, but the one who has to be different is the female Loki. Because being female is a character trait.
Mobius: Okay. I feel like I'm always looking up to you. I like it. It's appropriate. [Ep 1]
Basically females in the “Loki” series are all representation of the Action girl trope and aren’t even different representation of said trope. I mean, “The Avengers” have 5 actions boy who’re clearly as different as they could be. Girls can be represented as different too, if they really aim at young audience they can take good old “Sailor Moon” as an example. 5 action girls who are strong and determinate AND DIFFERENT, more than just someone who kicks the adversary away.
And it’s not like they don’t know how to characterize people in a different way.
Mobius is an analyst who shows sympathetic traits toward the Variants and a certain level or intelligence. U-92 and D-90 are hunters who are shown to held Variants in little regard (U-92 wanted to attack the boy they found in the church, D-90 mistreated the scared people in the shelter). Casey is an harmless and naïve guy who had never seen a fish. The guy who made Loki sign the papers about what he said seemed emotionless but he clearly loved cats as not only he had one but on his cup there was also the image of a cat. Martin is clearly a bossy daddy’s son, who think too high of himself to the point he can’t respect rules. The boy in the church, despite thinking Sylvie was a demon, accepted and ate food she gave him and remained in the place despite the crime. He’s clearly more brave than he looked like but he’s also naïve as he easily trusted ‘the demon’ and Mobius.
What’s C-20 character trait when she gets described by Sylvie?
Sylvie: Yeah. She was just a regular person on Earth. Loki: A regular person? Sylvie: Loved margaritas.
She’s a regular person who loves margaritas. Liking a drink is not a character trait!
There’s a more diverse female representation in “Thor” than in “Loki”.
In “Thor” we’ve Frigga, queen of Asgard, loving mother and wife who’s powerless to erase Thor’s banishment. We’ve Sif, a dangerous and loyal warrior. We’ve Jane, the amazing scientist with a lot of enthusiasm. We’ve Darcy, who’s funny and who seems focused mostly on herself but who, when the city is attacked, worried to save all the animals at the pet store.
But maybe the one who gets the worst treatment is the supposed heroine, Sylvie, because the poor girl is turned into a Mary Sue.
In case someone isn’t familiar with the term:
“The prototypical Mary Sue is an original female character in a fanfic who obviously serves as an idealized version of the author mainly for the purpose of Wish Fulfillment. She's exotically beautiful, often having an unusual hair or eye colour, and has a similarly cool and exotic name. She's exceptionally talented in an implausibly wide variety of areas, and may possess skills that are rare or nonexistent in the canon setting. She also lacks any realistic, or at least story-relevant, character flaws — either that or her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing. She has an unusual and dramatic Back Story. The canon protagonists are all overwhelmed with admiration for her beauty, wit, courage and other virtues, and are quick to adopt her as one of their True Companions, even characters who are usually antisocial and untrusting; if any character doesn't love her, that character gets an extremely unsympathetic portrayal. She has some sort of especially close relationship to the author's favourite canon character — their love interest, illegitimate child, never-before-mentioned sister, etc. Other than that, the canon characters are quickly reduced to awestruck cheerleaders, watching from the sidelines as Mary Sue outstrips them in their areas of expertise and solves problems that have stymied them for the entire series.” [tvtropes.org]
So let’s see how she fits this checklist:
1) She's exotically beautiful, often having an unusual hair or eye colour: Sylvie painted her hair blonde even though the Lokis are supposed to be black haired
2) has a similarly cool and exotic name: She is the only Loki Variant who has changed her name from Loki to Sylvie.
3) She's exceptionally talented in an implausibly wide variety of areas, and may possess skills that are rare or nonexistent in the canon setting: Awesome at fighting she can enchant people, an ability the Lokis don’t posses, that she magically learnt on her own and that is necessary in the story. Also she figured out how a Tempad worked BEFOREseeing it in action.
4) She also lacks any realistic, or at least story-relevant, character flaws — either that or her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing: No flaws, all her plans involve fighting and brute force is no substitute for diplomacy and guile, which could be a flaw… if it wasn’t for the fact that the series will prove Sylvie can plan just fine without using fighting and brute strength and also be successful at it.
5) She has an unusual and dramatic Back Story: She was taken by the TVA when she was younger than Kid Loki but managed to escape them and had to live alone and on the run till then.
6) The canon protagonists are all overwhelmed with admiration for her beauty, wit, courage and other virtues, and are quick to adopt her as one of their True Companions, even characters who are usually antisocial and untrusting: Loki, who has never loved anyone, falls for her, Mobius saves her and apologizes to her, B-15, who used to look down at Variants, basically asks her what should they do and is shown admiring her, the Lokis don’t criticize her plan, Classic Loki dies to save her, everyone views her as the superior Loki Variant.
7) if any character doesn't love her, that character gets an extremely unsympathetic portrayal: Renslayer, the hunter who has arrested her, is currently playing the part of the antagonist who’s fascist and believes in a murderous, lying cult.
8) She has some sort of especially close relationship to the author's favourite canon character — their love interest, illegitimate child, never-before-mentioned sister, etc.: She’s the Variant and love interest of the titular character.
9) Other than that, the canon characters are quickly reduced to awestruck cheerleaders, watching from the sidelines as Mary Sue outstrips them in their areas of expertise and solves problems that have stymied them for the entire series: Loki, the title character, has conveniently been turned into someone who’s a weak fighter and incapable of planning which Sylvie has to save by enchanting guards or giving him her sword or pruning herself or teaching him how to enchant and coming up with all the plans.
Now all she needs in order to be a perfect Mary Sue is to know how to sing well as Mary Sue usually do this as well, though I’m sure she can do it because Loki could so she surely can.
Sylvie is amazing, Loki himself said so:
Loki: No. We may lose. Sometimes painfully. But we don't die. We survive. I mean, you did. You were just a child when the TVA took you, but you nearly took down the organization that claims to govern the order of time. You did it on your own. You ran rings around them. You're amazing!
There’s nothing inherently wrong in having a new female character who’s competent, for whom the hero falls and who changes him… if all this is built around a solid plot.
Think at “Iron Man”.
Tony Stark is, to quote Tony Stark himself a “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist”.
It’s amazing, isn’t it? But the movie shows us why he’s that.
It spends time setting up his pedigree, how he inherited the money and intelligence from his father, how he was supported as he grew and studied becoming always a greater genius. Tony shows himself to be charming before seducing his first woman onscreen so that when he does it makes sense. His philanthropic activities are, at first, just mentioned but seems rooted in how his father was a hero who helped fighting Nazi and then they became his mission. He felt guilty he was a merchant of death and tried to make up for it.
Sylvie too could have a solid plot behind herself.
Instead than magically knowing what a TemPad does and how it works and managing to escape with it, she could have escaped with, let’s say, a hunter that discovered the truth and decided to rebel to the TVA or just had pity of her. Maybe another Mobius Variant who used to work at the TVA prior to Mobius and that, instead than an analyst was a hunter. She might have learnt fighting from him and then he too died and she was left alone.
Enchantment might have been an ability she might have learnt coming in contact with a mind stone. It could have been an occasion also to talk how mind stones can influence people negatively. Or it could have been taught to her by Frigga who, with a female daughter, decided to teach her a different type of magic than Loki.
Her past could have been explored more instead than being tragic for the sake of tragic. We might have seen her fall in love and either be betrayed or have to say goodbye to her loved one because that reality got pruned. We might have seen her being interested in males and females alike as she’s supposed to be interested in both.
She could have had discussions with Loki that weren’t just about Frigga or about how the TVA kidnapped her from Asgard, she escaped and from that point on she was always on the run, or about how love didn’t feel real, but more about how they were, how they felt, what hurt them and what made them happy, what they liked and what they disliked, their ideals and their fears, things that can built up a relation.
Loki basically fall for her because she’s on a mission for revenge instead than power and seems confident. That’s his reasoning.
She falls for Loki… because apparently he’s the person who spend time with her who praised her. That’s not a solid love story, that’s desperation.
SYlvie could have flaws, she could have learnt diplomacy or persuasion from Loki or could have something she lacks and Loki has so that they would complete each other.
And since the purpose was to have Sylvie and Loki fall for each other… they could have let Loki have characteristics that can motivate the exceptional heroine to fall in love for him PRIOR to him falling in love for her. He might be shown good at something, instead than just a clown.
Even if we say the real purpose of this series was to turn Sylvie into the protagonist, the heroine, a good Loki character was still needed to explain why this awesome girl would fall for him.
So okay, there will surely still be women who can see themselves in Sylvie and imagine they got Loki… and it’s not bad really… but I think we deserved more.
Long story short, yes, “Loki” has many females in its cast and this is meant to draw the female audience… but the representation is poor as almost all of the females have no character traits and Sylvie is just a Mary Sue with no realistic characterization.
A good female representation is diverse and solid. Women don't need to be born irrealistically perfect out of nothing to be good, they can inherith and grow and learn to be as such like any human being.
Last but not least…
PART 5 – DOES “LOKI” REALLY OFFERS REPRESENTATION TO THE LGBT COMMUNITY?
BC: There is a lot of talk on social media about Loki being gender fluid. Wouldn't that actually be a natural fit for the character? MW: Yeah, I guess as, with all questions pertaining to that stuff, I think those answers, truly, are best experienced in the watching of the show, as opposed to me trying to answer them. Because it's just watching it and the way that's addressed and everything will just be more fulfilling. BC: Why do you think it's important that Loki is gender fluid? MW: I think that Loki is a character that a lot of fans see representation in. People that haven't felt represented before, and they see themselves in Loki and everything. So we want to do justice to the character, to who the character is in the comics and in Norse mythology as well. And you also … you know you want folks to feel represented, and everything. That's why it's important. It always has been. It comes from everybody on the creative team. [Loki: Michael Waldron On Gender Fluidity, Mephisto, Time Travel & More]
The series hugely spread the info that this Loki would be fluid and Bisexual. The news were welcomed with delight and it’s awesome how the series didn’t hesitate to put it on paper.
Loki being fluid was written for everyone to see, and Loki having male and female interests was spelled out for everyone to hear.
IT’S A GREAT THING!
However…
It’s all we got.
It had no relevance into the plot whatsoever, it’s just a random info we’re given.
Him being fluid was on a paper along with his other data like eye colour and birth planet.
Him being interested in males and females seems to be put there just to imply he tried a large amount of people before deciding love didn’t feel real.
Assuming the other Lokis too were fluid, they actually found terrific the idea of a woman Loki in a not positive way. They weren’t interested or asking for clarifications about what Loki meant.
Loki’s bisexuality doesn’t even get a side story, them sending Fandral to beat Loki instead than Sif because Loki cheated on him or something. I’m not upset Loki ended up with a female, this is one of the possibilities of a Bisexual person. I’m upset that this was used merely to attract the audience but then wasn’t explored. They could have said Asgard was open minded with it, or disapproved it so Loki had to keep it hidden, or it could have been Sylvie who discussed some experience in that regard.
We were told over and over it was a show about identity. We expected it to be explored instead we were just told ‘ah, by the way, Loki is bisexual, let’s move on.’ And that was all.
Having representation from an important Marvel character is always important, especially considering the shortage of representation. But honestly I expected more.
PART 7 – TO SUM IT UP
Many of the people who worked in “Loki” are fantastic actors. They worked hard for this series, I can see they tried their best.
The premises for the “Loki” series are interesting.
We get a Loki who hadn’t experienced most of what happened in the movies yet, we make him confront with someone who knows his life, the one he lived and the one he was meant to live and we also make him confront with Variations of himself.
Loki has the Tesseract and the TVA has plenty of infinity stones, we could explore them.
The TVA itself have a fascist organization that dictates people’s lives and murders whoever tries to do differently, that goes so far as to brainwash the people working in it, which mistreats and belittle the Variants and establish a manipulative cult around the Time-Keeper with elements of police brutality which could be very actual.
Time travelling was the plot of "Avengers: Endgame" they could have tied the movie to the series, esplore the why some time travels were allowed and some weren't or their effects.
There were references to plenty of awesome comics they could take inspiration from.
But unless it redeems itself with the last episode… well, so far it’s failing to deliver what it promised due to a really poor plot which doesn’t give the characters a chance to be themselves or to be characterized as they’ve no real story nor real differences to speak of.
They’re given more time than a movie as they’re a series… but that’s no good excuse for wasting said time.
I’m still hoping the last episode will be spectacular, that it’ll manage to erase the messes of the other 5… but, as of now I’m disappointed.
I’ll just keep my fingers crossed and hope they’ll surprise me.
