You ignore them as you head upstairs. It's better you let your sister bask in her spotlight. You weren't looking forward to dinner anyhow. Not for anything more than the hunger groaning in your stomach. You put the phone back to your ear.

"A-are you there? S-sorry, I g-got distracted."

"Really, if you're busy--"

You're silent at the confession. You didn't mean to sound so pathetic. You go down the hall to your room and find a sweater.

He doesn't need to know you're a complete failure. You hate to accept it but you have to; you need him more than he needs you. So maybe you'll just change the damn thesis after all.

You flip up the flap and pull out your laptop, chilly from the walk there. You sense him watching you. You leave your computer shut as you lay it out and reach for the hot chocolate. You give it a taste and hum, thanking him.

"Sounds like a rough day," he comments.

"Y-yeah, b-but you d-don't have to w-worry about it," you assure him, glancing around evasively. When is he going to start being mean?

"You got kids?" He asks.

You have to hold in your laughter. "Sister's k-kids," you explain, "n-not for m-me."

"Ah," he accepts and reaches for his coffee, "right. Makes sense."

You keep your eyes down. You don't want to get too personal. Feels like he's just being polite, likely because he feels bad for you, not about his previous behavior.

"Don't got any either," he leans forward, his thick fingers hugging his cup, "so, your new draft was... great."

"R-really?" You lift your gaze meekly.

"Yeah, yeah, I just have a few notes," he sits back to bend down to the bag at his feet, "thanks for coming so last minute.”

Has hid in a tree to get away from the dog change my mind. If he needs to tell you something but you have your dog? Will just be shouting from a safe distance away.

Probably pretends to not be scared of the dog but like his screams any time this dog bark says otherwise. Man knows he doesn't have to hide his fear right?

Him and crewel argue all the time if the dog is good or not and if it should stay or not. Crewel got your back though and Crowley do in fact lose this argument every time

Though it's not he can just send the dog home and not the reader that would be s u s, that's if he knew how to get them home and was hiding it anyway....

I don't think he would show you affection directly. Most of the time it's subtle like if you two are hanging out he will play your favorite song he remembered you talking about, making sure you drink enough water, always asking if you've eaten something already etc.

Or giving you presents like new video games, buying a hoodie that he saw you looking it while thinking about buying it

And of course he would also show you affection through bullying.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

The friendship would probably start with a love or host or the two of you got introduced to eachother by a friend.

He would be a fun bestfriend having the attitude of "I'm the only one who's allowed to bully you everyone else can shut the fuck up."

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Likes to lay on his back with you at his side with your head laying on his chest. Puts his arm around you and pets your hairs.

Also really likes to lay his head on your chest and hearing your heartbeat.

Imma be honest he's not that good at cooking or cleaning always having unwashed clothes and ordering food most of the time.

It depends on how long the relationship has been going and on how strongn the bond of you two is.

If you two haven't been together for long it would be way easier for him making him able to tell it to you without being very sad.

But if you two have been a couple for a long time it would be very hard for him probably not being able to keep the tears in.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

I feel like he has commitment issues and he just constantly worries that the two of you are going to break up after marriage so it would take him to really know you're the one to get married.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He doesn't really like showing when he's sad because he thinks it makes him look weak but if you're sad he won't think of you as weak at all and will do his best at comforting you.

He's very aware of his strengh and is very gentle physically always being careful when picking you up or hugging you.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

At first he's like "Na i don't really like hugs that much" until once you gave him a hug while he was angry to calm him down. That moment he realised how much he likes getting hugs from you.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

The words "I love you" mean a lot to him so it would take him a long time to say it with a meaning behind it.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

It really depends on the person. If he trusts the person you're hanging out with and knows them then he doesn't care because he trusts you.

But if he already thinks the person you're hanging out with is sus then he can get kinda jealous.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

He really likes to kiss you on your neck because he likes the reaction he can get out of you.

Most of his kisses are really heated taking away your breath but if the moment is fitting he likes softer kisses.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

I don't think he's that good around children. He doesn't like how loud and annoying they are. But he finds it adorable how curious they can be sometimes and how they don't give a shir and tell you straight in the face when they think you're ugly.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Sounds really weird but because i know that he likes animals i feel like he'd watch animal documentaries that are playing on the tv early in the morning while laying in bed with you.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

If he has to edit it's probably spent with him sitting at his pc while you're in the room doing whatever you want because he likes your company.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

I think he would start revealing things pretty early but he waits a while to reveal things slowly and not everything at once. Letting you take your time in figuring out if you like him.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Usually he doesn't get seriously angered easily but plays being angry. He could never be seriously angry at you because he's scared you're gonna hate him. But if someone is being mean to you he can get angry easily.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He likes to remember stuff about you and write it down in his phone. Your favorite colour, favorite flower, favorite song, your insecurities etc.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

Once when he was editing you fell asleep in his lap trying to stay awake so he acted like you were a cat and did his best not to move to disturb you in anyway that could wake you up.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

If he sees you being uncomfortable because of someone he can be pretty protective. If it happens outside he will get you out of harms way and probably insult the person that is making you uncomfortable. Is also not afraid to throw hands.

He's basically constantly 'bullying you' but if someone other than him bullies you he's like 'Hey bitch you can't do that'

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

He puts a lot of effort into dates and anniversaries making sure that you're going to like what he does/gives you.

Usually when he gifts you stuff it can be anything that he finds on the internet but he likes to gift you games over steam.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

He's not very good at expressing his emotions especially sadness so he tends to bottle up all sadness until he has a breakdown. While in that breakdown he distances himself from you because he's scared you're gonna hate him.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

I mean he's not completely obsessed with his looks but he just likes to look neat for himself. What he is kinda obsessed with tho is his beard and he always wants it to look good.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

The thing is he's definitely able to be alone for a while without immediately missing you. But he loves just you being around him without conversations so he would probably start to muss your company.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

If he really trusts you he'll lay his head in your lap and if you pet his hair he'll probably fall asleep. Loves to do this after a long day of editing or streaming.

He wouldn't like it if his partner gets overly jealous. It annoys him and he sometimes just wants to hang out with friends.

What really catches Octa A-kun’s attention, however, is the strange collection of glass apparatuses and tubes that line the desk. A small flame dances under the rounded part of a flask, heating up a rose-gold concoction.

“Looks like you keep pretty busy, huh?”

“You could say that. I like to remain productive.”

Octa A-kun offers a timid smile. “Um, if I may ask, what is it that you’ve got brewing at your desk...? I-I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”

Raven pauses.

“Precisely. This is my latest creation--Nostalgia. It took me two whole weeks to get this new ink color just right, but it shall be lovely to write with.” Raven puffs up a bit with pride. “Oh, but enough about my personal projects. We need to work on that Magic History assignment, yes?”

“Y-Yes. That report on Unique Magic Development...” Octa A-kun’s eyes follow Raven’s hand as it trails over a series of books on a shelf.

“Ah, here it is.” Raven fishes out a maroon book with a few sticky notes jutting out of it--Unique Magic: Nature & Nurture--and hands it to Octa A-kun, along with a spare quill, an inkwell, and a fresh sheet of paper.

She gestures toward the seat adorned with wisteria. “Have a seat and work on your half of the report. I’ll be working on my half at my desk after I clean up. We can compare our halves and edit as is necessary when both parts are complete.”

He complies, sitting where he is directed and flipping open Unique Magic: Nature & Nurture.

Two sticky notes immediately pop out at him. One sports a list of various unrelated words (Nostalgia, Sorrow, Regret, and an L word that appears to have been blotted out, left illegible).

The other sticky note has a little diagram labelled Unique Magic, a heart in the center with arrows pointing outward. Needs faith, trust, and a little pixie dust, one arrow remarks. Infusion of feelings requires experience, says another. Practice with Nostalgia, a third states.

Octa A-kun slowly lifts his eyes from the page--carefully watching Raven tidying up her desk.

With the flick of her magical pen--or quill, rather--she extinguishes the flame beneath her flask and sets it into a test tube rack to cool. Raven collects her plants into a basket and tucks them under the desk, along with the rest of her glassware. Then she gathers stray papers and pops open her drawer to stow them away--

And that’s when Octa A-kun catches a glimpse of it.

An unopened letter, in a pale blue envelope.

To My Dearest Raven scrawled across it.

“...And that is the g-gist of it,” Octa A-kun concludes his report, “dorm leader.”

“Excellent work, Kon-san. You efforts are greatly appreciated.” From behind his ornate office desk, Azul clasps his hands together and beams. “I suppose there is no longer any need for Floyd to pay your friends in Pomefiore and Scarabia a little visit.”

“Boooo,” Floyd groans from beside him.

“Th-Thank you for your kindness, dorm leader!” Octa A-kun gushes--if only to (poorly) mask his own fears. He wants to sink into the couch cushions and disappear like sea foam. “B-But...But if I can make a request, sir!”

“What is it?” Azul sounds mildly annoyed, but Octa A-kun steels his courage and persists.

“Um...i-if possible, can you assign s-someone else to check on Miss Raven? I-I’m scared of what Rook-senpai will do to me if I make the wrong mo--EEP!!”

Before he has even finished his sentence, Floyd is flying at him like a shark tearing through water.

WHAM!

Octa A-kun screams as Floyd’s foot connects with the couch, boxing him in and nearly knocking the furniture over. Azul’s glasses flash a pure white, and he makes no move to restrain the feral eel.

“What was that, Konbu-chan?” Floyd asks--no, demands--as he leers down at him. Teeth gnashing. “Did I hear you right? Umineko-kun got in the way?”

“E-Eeeep! Ch-Chill out, Floyd-senpai! You’re...you’re scaring me!!” Octa A-kun whimpers, his poor heart pounding out of his chest.

“Speak freely, Kon-san,” Azul prompts, waving a gloved hand to silence Floyd--but his tone is just as icy and cruel as the eel’s eyes. “What is this I hear about...interference?”

“W-Well...h-he seemed to know that you sent me. And he said he might...do things if I make a misstep.” Octa A-kun furiously shakes his head. “I’ll need a replacement hat after th-that encounter...I-I’m sorry, dorm leader, but I r-really don’t want to be involved in this any more than I have to...!”

Azul leans back in his chair, and his face settles into a serious expression.

“Uwaaah, Jade wasn’t kiddin’ when he said Umineko-kun was guarding Black Pearly like a shark on sunken treasure,” Floyd flicks his tongue along his teeth, which gleam dangerously under the lights of the VIP room. “Even the low level lackies get chewed up and spat out, ehehehe~”

“This is not funny, Floyd. This just makes things that much more difficult,” Azul snaps, pushing his glasses up.

“It’s fine, it’s fiiine,” Floyd insists dismissively with a giggle. “I’ll just follow Konbu-chan--and if that creep Umineko-kun gets close, I’ll beat’em bloody~”

“I-Isn’t that a bit extreme?!” Octa A-kun protests, only to earn a withering glare from Floyd.

“Shut your trap, guppy. No one asked for your opinion,” Floyd hisses--then his expression brightens considerably when he addresses his dorm leader. “Ne, ne, Azul! Can I, can I?”

“Absolutely not. We still need to collect more information before taking such drastic action,” Azul says, his voice tinged with irrtation. “Might I remind you, Floyd, that Octavinelle is, once again, in poor standing with the headmaster? It would not do to further tarnish our reputation with another incidence report.”

“Laaaame~” Floyd pouts, backing away from Oct A-kun. “I’m not allowed to do anything fun anymore.”

“As I was saying,” Azul continues, ignoring the eel, “thank you for bringing this to my attention, Kon-san. Your work here is done--you are relieved from your duties until further notice. Dismissed.”

“Y-Yessir!! Th-Thank you so much, sir!” Octa A-kun breathes a massive sigh of relief. He is quick to gather his coat and hat, then bow to his senpais and hurriedly exit.

Azul pinches the bridge of his nose.  “...This will become a problem if it persists.”

“I don’t get it, Azul!” Floyd whines loudly, slamming his hands on his dorm leader’s desk. “Why don’t we just kidnap Black Pearly already and make her ‘n Jade ‘fess up? That’d be sooo much easier than dancing around Umineko-kun!”

“That is not how proper reconciliation works, Floyd,” Azul points out. “If we are to fix this mess, then we cannot hope to resolve it overnight.”

He thinks of the details Octa A-kun had divulged--the countless books that litter Raven’s abode, the fixation on work, the strangely named ink, the interest in curses...Surely they must all mean something.

He pauses, before adding, “...I feel as though I am missing a vital piece of the puzzle.”

“Ehhhh? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Call it...octopus’s intuition. There is something bigger at play here, something far more powerful than you or I can comprehend.” Azul folds his arms. “And if we intend to bring back Miss Raven into Jade’s arms, then that is one puzzle piece we must find.”

“Hmmm.” Floyd leans down, peering into Azul’s solemn face--then breaks out into a toothy grin. “Ne, ne, you really care a lot about Jade, don’t you?”

“Hmph. Don’t be ridiculous,” Azul snaps, lips pursing into a straight line. “This is merely a case of an employer fretting over the well being of his employee. Jade cannot perform at his best if he is emotionally distressed. I am simply doing my due diligence as his employer to ensure that he is content--it benefits the business.”

“Ehehehe~ In the end, Azul’s heart is juuust as squishy and soft as his octopus form~” The eel wraps his arms around Azul, squeezing the dorm leader against his chest. “That’s sooo cute~”

“FLOYD, DO NOT PRESUME TO KNOW MY INTENTIONS...!! AND UNHAND ME THIS INSTANT!”

“Nope! Don’t wanna~”

Octa A-kun is halfway down the corridor when a hand clamps down--hard--onto his shoulder. The student squeaks in terror as he is whipped around--and comes face-to-face with his smiling vice-dorm leader.

“Good evening, Kon-san,” Jade says nonchalantly, his tone light but his aura dark. “Might I have a moment with you?”

For the third time that day. Octa A-kun’s stomach sinks--but he lacks both the strength and the willpower to resist.

“S-Sure...Wh-What is it?”

Jade cranes his head down, his single golden eye glowing despite his sinister shadow. “I have received word that you have been snooping around campus. Naughty, naughty Kon-san. You should know better.”

Octa A-kun instinctively takes a step back, putting some distance between him and his vice-dorm leader--the information broker of Octavinelle. No secret can evade him, it seems.

“Th-The dorm leader asked me to...!” he confesses, cheeks turning pink in embarrassment.

“Please, be at ease. I do not bite,” Jade says smoothly, chuckling into his glove. “Now then, my sources tell me that you happened upon Miss Raven’s quarters. Is this correct?”

“Y-Yes...”

“Then let me ask this of you--did you, by chance, see a blue envelope?”

“Blue envelope...” Octa A-kun’s eyes light up in realization. “A-Ah, I do seem to recall seeing something like that. She...She keeps it in a drawer. It was unopened.”

“Unopened...?” Jade repeats the word carefully, as though handling a delicate artifact. He brings a hand to his chin in contemplation, his brows furrowing. “It is no wonder why she continues to behave in such a vehement manner,” he mumbles under his breath.

“Um...vice-dorm leader? Is everything alright?” Octa A-kun asks nervously.

“...No. It is nothing, I assure you.” Jade composes himself, smiling once more--this time, without a hint of darkness to it. “Think nothing of it, dear Kon-san. Please, do retire for the night--that was all I wished to know, fufu.”

“O-Of course, vice-dorm leader...”

Jade sees him off with a polite wave.

Octa A-kun waits until Jade is completely out of sight before he collapses into a heap on the ground. He clutches onto his stomach, which twists and knots with fright, and sniffles softly to himself.

Why, oh, why was he not sorted into a normal dorm with normal non-scary students and normal, healthy relationships with their peers? No, instead he’s trapped in the mermaid mafia and witnessing Overblot incidents every single month.

Go to Night Raven College, they said. It’d be fun, they said. You’ll get a great education, they said.

J-Just...Just give me a quiet, peaceful life already...!!

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?) James can be really affectionate, but he won’t always be like that. Especially if he’s in front of his friends, he can seem a little distant or distracted. He’s not cruel, but he does love to be affectionate when it is just the two of you.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

James isn’t necessarily the best as a friend, but you know he won’t stop supporting you. He can be a bully and rope you into things you may not want to do, but you know he does truly mean well. He’s got a good heart, deep down. The friendship would probably start when you both meet in class and he asks for help on some homework. Or if you go to one of his Quidditch games and cheer him on.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

James loves to cuddle, but he does get warm during the night. He’ll wrap his arms around you and hold you tight to his chest. After a while. he’ll roll over and make sure one of his body parts is always touching you.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

As suspected, James isn’t the best with domestic chores. He’d be eager to learn and help you out if he did end up settling down with you, but don’t expect him to be overtly domestic.

He’d probably play it off as nothing to seem cool and arrogant, but when he’s alone, he’d break down and cry. Break ups can be so tough on James, and he’s not fond of them at all.

He likes the idea of being committed to one person, but he wants to live out his wild years a bit first. With time, he’ll come around to the idea of marriage.

He can be a bit rough and forget to be gentle with you, but all you need to do is remind him to be a little more gentle. James can be arrogant and prick, so he needs to be thrown off his high horse from time to time.

James likes hugs, but he doesn’t want to seem weak in front of people. His hugs are usually quick and abrupt, but still hold some warmth to them.

Not very fast. He’s got a few options to think over before he knows for sure he’s into you that much. But when he does say it, you can be assured he truly means it.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

James is a jealous guy and he’ll easily pick a fight if someone steps on his territory. He’s not afraid to beat up or prank someone if they hit on you while you are in a relationship with him.

James’ kisses are heated and passionate, yet they can be quick and abrupt like his hugs. He likes to keep things interesting and surprise you with kisses. He loves to kiss your neck and breast. He very much enjoys when you kiss his pelvic area. ;)

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

James is surprisingly very good with children and actually has the patience to be kind and understanding to them. He thinks they are cute and have so much potential.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

James would definitely be a late sleeper when he gets the chance, so you’d probably have to rouse him awake with promises of coffee and breakfast.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

James is wild and unhinged at night. He loves dancing to music, drinking and kissing you until your head spins. Finally, when he’s ready to end the night, he’ll lie you down on the bed and please you until you’re both exhausted.

James is not a mushy guy, so he’s not always the most eager about sharing things about his life. Not like he’s got really any secrets, but he wants to make sure you are trustworthy before he reveals anything huge.

James can be very easily angered, and it can be ugly sometimes. You just need to remember to help him through these moments.

He definitely does his best to remember your favorite things and your birthday, but he’s not going to remember every single detail you tell him. He just can’t be bothered to remember everything in life.

His favorite memory is when you both first made love. The look in your eyes as he entered you is definitely sealed away in his spank bank.

James is a very protective guy and would hurt anyone who tries to threaten you. You can expect him to throw around a few hexes if anyone dares to toe the line. He doesn’t mind if you protect him, but best not do it in front of his friends.

James can be very cute sometimes and make a huge effort in making you feel special. He loves to spoil you when he can and get you all kinds of gifts.

He’s arrogant and can hurt your feelings from time to time.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

He’s quite a bit concerned with his looks. James wants to look his best.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

He’d feel so lost without you. He hates when you have to spend long time apart.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

James is a big baby when he isn’t feeling well. He wants you take care of him and nurse him back to health.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

James obviously isn’t a fan of Severus, so if his partner like Severus, this would be a major turn off for him.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

He sleeps in late, stays up all night and snores. But you still love him.
