✦✦✦
It was still early into her night shift. The children had all been put to bed, but there was no telling if any of them would need medical assistance or a visit to the nurses.
Her nights were typically quiet though, filled with paperwork left to her by the morning and afternoon nurses since they were well aware she had the time to do them. She became used to the solitude, and slow nights where her only interaction was with the clicking of the keyboard as she filled out reports or just sitting around reading a book one of the guards smuggled in for her.
This night though appeared it would be more eventful though as only an hour into her shift, one of the lights on the board beside her began to blink.
It signified that she was needed in whatever room the light was blinking indicated, which meant that at least for the first hour of her shift she could do something useful other than doing the work her coworkers didn’t want to bother with.
With her standard medkit in hand, she left the tiny office and began to walk down the eerie, bright halls toward the room that the blinking light had told her to go to. It wasn’t far, but it was just at the edge of her assigned sector and she had to pass through a guard’s station to be buzzed in.
She greeted the night shift guard with a tight smile, and his eyes fell over her body, taking in her obvious nurse’s uniform.
“Got a call?” He asked her as she pulled out her keycard and handed it to him so he could buzz her through to get to the other part of the building.
“Yeah,” she replied, “It’s not urgent, but at least it gets me out of that tiny office.”
He had chuckled as he scanned her card, and pushed the door open for her, “Well, have fun then Nurse.”
She nodded at him and took her card back before walking through the door and continuing her journey. She did wonder who would have needed her all the way over here, as the children’s rooms were on a separate floor, but a lot of people who worked at the lab also lived in it, so she safely assumed it was probably some scientist whose experiment went wrong and needed light medical assistance.
When she finally got to the room, she used her keycard to unlock it and pushed the large door open to reveal a lab like she figured it would be. The lights were dimmer in here though, which was odd as every room seemed to have those annoying fluorescent lights that buzzed.
“Hello?” she called into the lab, “It’s the nurse you called for, is everything alright? Are you hurt?”
She flickered the main lights on then, brightening up the room, and her eyes scanned the clean lab for her patient when her eyes fell upon someone standing by one of the lab tables. She blinked for a moment, recognizing the blonde haired man who stood there in an all white orderly uniform.
“Peter?” she asked, worry crossing her features as he must’ve been her patient, “Is everything okay?”
She was walking toward him, and he turned his head to meet her concerned gaze.
“I’m okay,” he told her, “I’m glad it was you who came though, I wasn’t sure if the room I chose was too close to the other night time nurse.”
She stared at him incredulously after her eyes flashed all over him in search of any visible injuries that she still believed she was here for.
“So there is nothing wrong?” He shook his head once, and smiled tightly at her as she crossed her arms and sighed, “Peter…come on, I have work to do. What if there’s an actual emergency?”
“You and I are well aware that you are on call right now, so any emergencies go to a nurse in a different sector,” he reminded you, then he tilted his and continued to say, “Besides, I just wanted to see you.”
Peter stepped closer to her, and she was quick to step away from him despite the warmth that had grown in her chest at his last statement. She tore her eyes away from him, saying his name warningly, as she searched for the inevitable camera in the room.
It was something she was always aware of since being sent here by the government to work as one of their many nurses on their Lab's medical team, and something she became very hyper aware of since meeting Peter Ballard, afraid that they would catch their lingering stares and passing smiles, and hand touches.
It was a few months ago when she was called to his bedroom on the rare occasion she got called in the night hours. He donned the burn marks of the tasers the guards and other orderlies would carry around on his neck, so it was clear he had broken a rule of some sort set by Dr. Martin Brenner and was punished for it, even when he was just an orderly. It had made her sick to her stomach.
They had been tender and red, and painful to the touch. He was so quiet, his blond hair mussed up and his face red with agitation and pain, and when he looked at her, he looked at her with hatred that wasn’t necessarily meant for her, but at what happened.
So, she was gentle with him as she possibly could be, applying the proper medication to his wounds and tending to him with precision. He had seemed to calm down in her care, his body that was once tense with anger and frustration turning calmer. It was when he had looked up at her as she wiped the blood off an open cut, and finally acknowledged that she was here where something seemed to have clicked between them.
Since then, a friendship had formed, and then, there was clearly something more there, something that had her yearning for him in a way she shouldn’t be, and she thought of him in ways a nurse shouldn’t think of an orderly and co-worker.
It was just as well because she knew the cameras were there, a man behind them always watching. In fact, one of Martin Brenner’s first words to the new hires was that there wasn’t one thing that went on in his lab that he didn’t know about, and it really stuck with her as she tried to find it in the room.
“If you are looking for the camera, it’s over there,” Peter had said, her eyes met his and saw he had nodded his head behind her. She turned her head, squinting her eyes a bit to see the camera sitting in the top corner of the room.
It surprised her that he hadn't seen it in her first scan of the room, and before she could turn around, she felt his hands gently grazing the small of her back. She tensed up at his touch, her breath hitching softly and nervously.
“The camera…”
“The camera is not on,” he told her as his hands gently moved upward, past her shoulder blades before resting on her shoulders, “Look…”
She looked closer at the camera, now realizing she hadn't seen the camera because the little red light that indicated it was on wasn’t shining. It was always the first thing she looked for as it always stood out when she’d scan the room looking for it.
Her head tilted and she asked, “How?”
“Does it matter?”
Peter’s lips were right beside her ear, his hypnotic voice paired with his thumbs that just barely touched the exposed skin of her neck sending pleasurable chills down her spine. She inhaled deeply, especially when his hot breath tickled her ear too.
“Y-yeah it matters,” she replied.
He chuckled, gently massaging her shoulders and enjoying the way her body was slowly leaning into his delicate touch, similar to the way his body had the first time they had met in his bedroom those months ago.
He had been dreaming of this since that day, and he knew by the way she’d look at him, how her eyes would linger on his lips before quickly turning away as the camera’s scared the ever living hell out of her. He imagined that she probably never even touched herself like he did, too afraid that the rooms that didn’t have cameras still did.
Today though, he was finally going to be with her in the way he knew she wanted, in the way that he wanted. It was just about convincing her now.
“I can’t tell you how the camera’s off, but I can promise you it is,” he told her reassuringly, but he could tell that she was still doubtful. He suspected she might be still, but that was okay, he could handle her doubt.
She stared at it closely, trying to see if there was any kind of trick of the light where the red light was on and someone was watching her right now, watching them, and watching one of his hands on her shoulders lower and rest over her chest where her heart was.
“Do you trust me?” he asked her, feeling her fast beating of her heart on his palm.
“Yes,” she told him up front, “But we…we can’t do this, what if…” Her words were swallowed by a quiet gasp as he lowered his hand then to grope one of her breasts over her uniform.
She wasn’t lying when she said she trusted Peter, if anything, she just didn’t trust the camera. Though she was aware that not every room had working cameras, it still made her nervous, but his hand felt so good on her.
She hadn’t been touched like this since before she took the job here in Hawkins, Indiana, and since it was Peter who was touching her in such a way, it made her body easily give in to his touch. She felt Peter press his bottom half against her ass, and her lips fell open with a soft sigh.
“What if what?”
She could practically hear the smile on his lips. He was teasing her with that question, and had his hand not been on breast and massaging it she would’ve told him something.
“The…door?” she asked him this time, and he replied that nobody is going to come in because it was an unused lab after all. She was still unsure, even as his hand moved to unbutton the top of her dress uniform, “Then we need to be fast- god what am I saying…”
Peter chuckled at her words, and was twisting her around so that her chest was pressed right up against his and he pushed toward one of the lab stations so that her lower back was pressing onto its edge. He loved the way she looked, her lips parted, and her eyes were so wide that he could see how dark her pupils had become with desire.
He snaked his hand up her skirt, and the cold temperature of his long fingers caused her legs to twitch apart. She was so warm down there, just like he imagined she would be, and he took in her quick paced breaths and the way her eyes kept shooting toward the camera again.
“It’s not on,” he told her as his other hand captured her chin to make her look at him. He smiled at her when their eyes met, “Just trust me like you said you would.”
Her lip swiped across her bottom lip as his eyes bore into hers, and a quiet moan slipped out of her lips as his fingers came into contact with her soaking cunt. He watched her expression closely, loving the way she bit her lip then, as if wanting to keep quiet.
“You’re so wet down there,” he told her, “I’ve barely even touched you, let alone been that close.”
“Peter please,” she said just barely above a whisper, gently bucking her hips into his hand.
“You’re a little too eager,” he said as he pushed the fabric of her soaked panties aside, “It must have been a while since you’ve been touched.”
Her legs shook as he pressed his fingers between her slick folds and she released a shattered breath that hit the edge of his face, and he said, “I doubt you’ve ever touched yourself while here, too scared of these pesky cameras. Am I right?”
“You-you’re-” her own words were cut off with a gasp when his fingers began to circle her clit. One of her hands flew backwards to grasp the table she was leaning on while the other grabbed his shoulder. Peter grinned, satisfied with that reaction, and he continued the circular motion.
“Answer me,” he told her, his own voice lower and very clearly aroused.
Her lips quivered, and she said breathlessly, “You’re right…god Peter.” She bucked her hips forward again, and he decided to sink his finger into her cunt. She was so wet that it was so easy for his finger to slide past her walls, and even his breath hitched.
“I thought so,” he replied, voice deeper and quiet so that only she could hear him as he began to pump his finger in and out of her at a slow pace, “It must feel really good then.”
She was nodding, and murmured, “Yeah, yes, it feels good.”
Her skin was growing hot by the second, and with every pump of his finger she felt this small coil in her stomach get tighter and engulfed in pleasurable heat. She threw her head back as he sunk in a second finger, and curled them inside of her.
“Oh my god,” she moaned, slightly louder than her previous moans. He swiped his tongue over his bottom lip then, relishing in the reaction he got out of her, and his eyes glanced over her parted lips where she was panting his name quietly.
That was when her moans were swallowed by his lips on hers, he was fast and rough, using his other hand to grasp the back of her head and forcing her lips to meet his. She was momentarily caught off guard by his kiss, but very quickly began to return it with the same intensity.
Their tongue and teeth clashed together in a bruising and almost inexperienced kiss, just wanting to get a taste of one another. She hummed against his lips as he moved his fingers faster in and out of her.
He drank her delicious moans that only got louder when his palm dragged across her clit with every pump of his fingers. Their lips were parted forcefully by him pulling her back, as he wanted to see the look on her face when she came.
Her hips were sputtering forward, and he felt her walls clenched around his fingers, and there was a slight pain on her scalp by how hard he was holding her hair, but it was very quickly forgotten as the coil in her stomach got tighter and tighter.
“Oh you’re so close, I can feel it,” he said to her, then tightened his grip on her hair when her eyes tried to close, “Don’t look away. Keep your eyes on me, I wanna see you when you finally come.” His tone was forceful, filling her stomach with a sort of excitement
His blue eyes were just as dark as his voice was, boring into her very soul and she was suddenly being pushed over the edge as the coil snapped and an intense orgasm washed over her. She let out a shattered moan as her body convulsed and her release flooded and soaked his fingers, making the filthy sound of him fingering her get louder.
Her hand gripped his shoulder tightly as he continued to fuck her with her fingers ever after her orgasm passed, and she whimpered, “Peter- I’m too- I’m too-” His fingers were back on her sensitive clit, and she almost cried out by the over stimulation.
Her hand released his shoulder and rather grasped his wrist, and that was when he stopped finally. She let out a long exhale, finally letting her body come down from that high.
“I’m sorry,” he said, though he didn’t sound very sorry, “You were just so pretty the first time you came I wanted to see it again.”
She laughed breathlessly, “Just give me a second…fuck.”
Peter released the hold on her head then, allowing her to have that second and she leaned onto the table as she came down from that intense orgasm he had just given her, probably the most intense one she’s had in her life to be honest.
“Mm,” Peter suddenly hummed, “You taste good.”
Her eyes lifted up after a few seconds to look at Peter, only to find him licking his own fingers that were just buried inside of her almost a minute ago. Her mouth nearly watered as she watched him slide his tongue over the pads of his fingers before sucking them into his mouth. His lips glistened with his own spit and her cum, and she was clenching her thighs together at the sight.
Peter’s eyes flickered back to her, still taking one of his fingers into his mouth. His eyes narrowed at her then, taking in her eyes that were still on his lips and he smirked.
“You don’t look like you believe me,” he said as he licked off the remaining cum on his fingers, “Unfortunately, there isn’t any more, but I think I know what to do.”
She half expected him to touch her again, and then stick his fingers into her mouth, something she wouldn’t exactly object to, but his hand was suddenly on the back of her head again, grasping at the strands there and forcing her to look up.
His other hand, the one that he had been licking and still covered in saliva, grasped the bottom of her chin and he said, “Open.”
She wasted no time in parting her lips for him, and he shook his head and said, “Wider.” And she listened, except she must’ve been too slow as he hooked his thumb into her mouth and forced it open. She hummed in surprise when he did so, but her eyes glossed over when he leaned over her to spit directly into her mouth.
It took her more by surprise than him shoving his thumb into her mouth, and while normally that idea might’ve made her gag it only made her whine with pleasure as she felt his warm spit dribble down her tongue and toward the back of her throat.
“Swallow it,” he told her, and she obliged, making sure to dramatize her gulp so that he knew she had done as told. He looked satisfied, his eyes lingering onto her lips, a bit of his own spit dripping off of the side. He looked completely enamored with her then, and she felt pleased that he was, but when he looked at her, she only saw this dark, mischievous look go over his features, and he was suddenly twisting her around so that the front of her body was pressed and almost over the table.
“I knew you were filthy,” Peter said, “All those sweet, innocent glances you’d send my way,” He laughed darkly, “No, I’ve seen the way you started to not button the top of your uniform, how you’ve opened those pretty thighs for me when I see you in the infirmary.”
He was hiking the skirt of her uniform up and grasping her underwear to pull them off of her.
“From the moment we met, when you put your chest in my face while you talked so softly and sweet, acting like you didn’t know what you were doing- I knew you weren’t what you seemed,” he said, “I just needed to break you- make you show your true self to me.”
He was undoing his belt then with one hand, and held his hard cock in his hand, letting out a raspy breath at the contact. He felt her try and back up into him, small desperate moans slipping past her lips. He spit into his hand, despite knowing that she was nice and ready for his cock, and smeared it over the tip.
“And I certainly did, I wish you could see yourself,” he said, placing his hand onto her thigh and squeezing the flesh there as he made her spread her legs for him so that her soaking cunt was on display for him, “So perfect, so ready to take my cock.”
“Yes, I’m ready Peter, please,” she was saying between her moans.
“Well, since you’re polite enough to say please,” he said, his voice slightly humorous, and teasing. He held her still, keeping her from wiggling her ass at him before he aligned his cock with her entrance, pressing the tip of it against her folds but not entering her yet.
His eyes rather went to the way her back was arching, and he clicked his tongue together, reaching forward to rest his hand on the small of her back.
“Very eager,” he muttered to her, before he shoved his cock inside of her with one quick thrust. She cried out, her hands gripping the edge of the lab station and he let out a suppressed groan as he felt her walls clenched around his cock.
She practically whimpered, her entire body vibrating with pleasure and arousal of finally being filled up by him. There was a only few seconds of her adjusting to his size before her body was pleading to fucked, before she was a mewling mess of pleas for him to move.
He removed his hand from her back, moving both to grip her sides roughly, sinking his fingers into the flesh of her outer thighs, and he held her still as he pulled out of her before he snapped his hips back forward.
“Take all of it,” he told her through gritted teeth, “It’s what you wanted, what you’ve always wanted. I know by the way you're taking my cock.”
He buried his cock inside of her again, causing another loud to moan to pass through her lips, “So filthy, so fucking filthy with how tight your cunt is around me.” He pulled out again, leaving her with only seconds of emptiness before filling her up again roughly.
She cried out, loving the way he felt inside of her, how his cock stretched her walls out and hit that spot inside of her just right with every thrust. Through pants, she was begging him to go faster, to just take her on this table right now, to make her his.
Her words were music to his ears, “Are you sure you can take it? Seems to me it’s been a while for you…”
“I can take it, I can take it,” she was telling him repeatedly as his hands gently rubbed the skin of her thighs, as if he was in thought and contemplating her words, “I can fucking take it. Please fuck me.”
Something clicked into his eyes at her words, and before she knew it he was leaning forward and reaching for her neck. His hand grasped around her throat tightly as he pulled backwards until her back was against his.
She gasped out of surprise, but it was quickly replaced by an array of moans and whimpers as he started to fuck her at a more merciless rhythm.
“God I wish you could see yourself, and maybe you can,” he said in her ear with a grunt as he rolled his hips into hers, “Maybe those cameras are on…”
She mewled, her eyes slightly rolling back as each pump of his cock caused shockwaves to grip onto her body, and she said something incoherent again, unable to speak because of how good he fucking her and the tight hold on her pulse, constricting her slightly of air.
“Oh, you don’t even care about the cameras anymore,” he growled into her ear, “I can feel your body shuddering at the thought of it, of the thought of someone watching this- watching me fuck you.”
“I-I can’t-” her voice was choked and refrained, and he tilted his head before laughing darkly and slowly releasing the hold on her throat and she gasped for air, but he didn’t let up with this relentless thrusts, causing her to cry out his name and then say something between her pants and moans that had him moaning too right into her ear, “Again. Do it again, please.”
He obliged, tightening his grip on her throat once again, tighter and tighter with every thrust, and with his other hand, he reached down, passing her abdomen before his fingers found her clit. Her body jolted when she felt his fingers there, feeling the pads of his fingers running over it and she jerked her hips forward.
She couldn’t breathe again, well just barely, her lungs felt like they were on fire and her vision began to black out from him very quickly bringing her to the edge. He was fucking her so perfectly and deliciously, holding onto her throat tight enough that had her eyes rolling back once again.
Her hands were reaching back, grasping the back of his hair like he’d done to her, and he let out a hiss of pain mixed with pleasure, not expecting her to do such a thing, but she didn’t let him go and he rubbed her clit faster.
He could feel her clenching down on him, her legs beginning to spasm and curse words were slipping from his lips as well as he pounded his cock into her, and she was getting gradually louder until she let out a final, strangled moan as the walls of her cunt fluttered around him and her body spasmed against him.
Peter thrusted into her a few more times before burying himself as deep as he could inside of her, allowing his own orgasm to come over him. He filled her up with his cum, his hips jerking forward as he grunted and held her in place until she milked every last amount of him.
“That’s it, take all of it,” he told her breathlessly in her ear.
Her body had gone slump against him, her hand falling from the back of his head and falling back to her side and his hips stuttering one last time before he dropped his head onto her shoulder, out of breath himself.
Peter continued to hold her, both of them coming down from their respective orgasms, and for her it was her second one, which had been more mind-blowing than the one before. She was still panting, and her legs felt like jelly. She was grateful he was still even holding her as she might’ve fallen to the floor or at least back on the station in front of her.
Instead, she leaned back onto him, feeling him press his lips onto the crook of her neck and kiss her almost tenderly in the aftershocks, and her eyes shifted toward the camera again.
“You didn’t mean that, did you…” she said breathlessly as he lifted his head up and kissed another part of her neck.
“Didn’t mean what?” he asked, voice slightly hoarse.
“The camera is off…right?”
Peter sucked in a tight breath, and when he exhaled he released a throaty chuckle as well.
“It’s broken…if it wasn’t somebody would’ve come in by now to stop us.”
She sighed, relieved even though the idea of it actually being on and someone was watching him fuck her into oblivion was arousing a few moments again. She didn’t want to lose her job here, especially not now when Peter Ballard was here.
She didn’t know when they would have time to do this again, if the camera would be fixed tomorrow or something, so she was the first to move away from him. He watched her curiously as his cock slipped out of her and she turned to face him.
“They can get the other night-time nurse,” she told him confidently, before she was falling to her knees before him. His head tilted, and then he licked his lips and smiled wickedly as her hands were moving to grasp him and he realized what she was going to do.
He moved his hand to her hair, and said, “I’m glad we’re both here at the same time. Truly.”
It was an odd thing to say, considering the things he had told her before, but something about it felt…sweet, especially with the way his blue eyes almost sparkled at the sight of her on his knees before him. She smiled sweetly up at him and said, “Me too” before she was leaning in.

February 9th
It seemed that everyone now knew about the flowers that have been left for you the last three days. And everyone seems to know nothing about it. But someone must, it has to be one of them. You sat at your desk, trying to figure it out. Who could it be?
Tony? Doesn’t seem to be his style, and he seemed way too amused at the thought, so maybe not him.
Bruce? Flowers and sweet words do seem like something the more bashful and shy man would do. But he is not the best actor or liar, and seemed to know nothing of it.
Then there was Steve and Bucky. They seemed very interested in the bouquet that Natasha brought in the gym. But they couldn’t have left it at your door. Well, they had gone in and out during the time you were there...so maybe one of them dropped it off? They both seem like secret romantics.
Natasha? She is very good at doing sneaky things, she was a spy after all. And she straight up handed you a bouquet, maybe she did not find it at your door, and instead thought it would be less suspicious that way.
Thor and Loki have not been on Earth until yesterday, so they could not have left them...
Vision? Clint? They both seemed to have a knack for the romantic. But did they have feelings for you?
Wanda? No, she hasn’t been around, and was too excited with the thought of helping you seek them out when she found out about it. She compared it to a scavenger hunt.
You sighed as you leaned back in your chair, staring at the ceiling. Who the hell was it? It could be any of them, but maybe none of them at the same time. Maybe its just another SHIELD Agent that works in the tower that you know? With that thought, that brings the amount of people to near a hundred.
Plus, there was the creepy thought that Tony and Natasha teasingly put into your head this morning. That it could be a delusional stalker that you met briefly once, but you doubted that. Though you did hate that the thought was still lingering.
Your thoughts halted when you heard a noise right outside your door. Your head snapping in its direction. Quickly getting up, you basically sprinted to the door before pulling it open quickly.
The mixture of disappointment and relief at the sight of no one outside your door, was replaced with surprise as your eyes fell to the object sitting at your feet.
“What?” you asked in disbelief, before stepping over it and looking down the hall. There were no other people living on this floor, and the elevator had not opened nor closed. Moving quickly down the hall, you opened up the stairwell door, you listened intently for a few moments, but heard nothing.
You turned back and looked at the colorful bouquet on the floor. Moving back over to it, you picked it up, looking back down the hall you shook your head in disbelief “How?”
Looking at the delicate and beautiful flowers wrapped in a light brown paper tied with white twine, you smiled before walking back into your room, sparing one last glance down the empty hallway. You sat at your desk as you fiddled with the attached note for a moment before you opened it. Reading the words to yourself.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ Pink Camellias
These mean “Longing for you”. A bit dramatic, I know. And I hope you are not frightened by my gifts and words, that is not my intention. I just simply want you to know the feelings that I have been dealing with for a while now. I long for you to know them, I long to hear you tell me the same. But I promise you, if you do not feel the same, I will feel no ill will towards you. I simply wish you happiness and love. But more than that, I do hope, and long for the days I can be the one who gives them to you.  ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
When you finished reading the note you let out a breath you hadn’t been aware you had been holding in. Well, at least they seem kind, and not like a stalker.
“I hope I feel the same too” you muttered. You hated the idea of breaking someone’s heart, especially if they’re a friend.
You thought back to how they were able to leave the flowers at your door without being seen. Maybe the noise you heard was them leaving and not arriving? No, it was right outside your door. Or maybe they had a way of getting in and out quickly that you didn’t know about, or they were just very fast. Or....they could walk through walls...
”Vision.”
After adding the camellias to the same vase as the Salvias, you left your room to seek out Vision. After searching his room, the main living area, and the kitchen., you headed to Steve and Tony’s lab. When walking in, you noticed the man standing near Tony, seemingly helping with something.
“Boys” you greeted as you approached, you spotted Bruce in the room behind them. You were debating in this moment whether you wanted to know if it was Vision or not.
“Hello Y/n” Vision greeted with his usual smile and demeanor, as Tony nodded “What’s up, need something?”
You needed to know. Maybe he was delivering for someone else? “I just have a question for Vision.”
“What is it?” he asked.
“Did you happen deliver flowers outside my door, about five minutes ago?”
Tony looked up at you before looking at Vision.
“No? Why? Did you receive another delivery from your apparent admirer?”
“Yes I did. But the thing is, I heard them, but by the time I got to the door, they were gone, which seemed somewhat impossible. Sort of like they could disappear, run very fast, or move through walls” you said while eyeing them.
“Ah, I see. You have the right to be suspicious, but I assure you Y/n, I did not deliver any flowers.”
You sighed, Vision hated lying, especially too you, so with the sincerity in his voice, you had to believe him “Okay, I believe you.”
“Is this frightening you Y/n?” Vision asked, worry evident in his voice.
“No, no. I’m not scared, just...very, very curious.” you said with a smile, “I’ll see you guys later” you said in parting before turning away.
“Aren’t you going to ask me if I did it?” Tony quipped.
You turned back and smiled “Last I checked you can’t move through walls nor turn invisible. And, you really aren’t that fast.”
He gave you an offended look as you turned and left with a chuckle “I’ll remember that!” he called out as you left.
As you walked down the hall you convinced yourself that what you heard must have been them already leaving, and it just seemed to be right outside your door through your excitement.
Your mind landed on Loki. He has magic. Maybe he delivered them that way? But, he has only been here for two days...Maybe Wanda?
“Ugh” you exasperated as you made your way down the hall, earning a startled look from a nearby agent.
Getting into the elevator, you began talking to yourself “I just need to stop thinking about it. I’m sure they will show themselves when they are ready, and I will deal with it then. Yeah.”
You had hoped you’d convinced yourself, but you still felt the clear lingering curiosity and doubt. There was no way you could stop thinking about it. There was someone in this building who was apparently very much in love with you, and you had no idea who. That could drive anyone insane.
Tomorrow. There would surely be another delivery at some point. What would it be this time? Lillies? Roses?
Tomorrow. You couldn’t tell if you were anxious because you were nervous, or because you were excited. Maybe both. Yeah probably both.
Lets just wait until tomorrow. Who knows what will happen.
xx xx xx xx xx
oooh, foreshadowing???? Maybe~
ok hi its lost anon!! i literally moved to my laptop to type this out because 1) i have a lot to say and 2) last time i had to look at other things while typing out an ask, it got deleted jfsidjfijdsio
SO first order of business, i have a theory about inkpaa. I think theyre building up inkpaa, but theyre going to end without them being canon. For me, inkpaa falls into two categories for me: too good to be true and horrifically under promoted. I think if they were going to have a wlw side couple, it would be promoted as such. Im not sure how much demand there is for gl in thailand, but i would say theres a pretty high demand in oversees fans. The chance to market the show as such just would make more sense in an economic standpoint! (to be fair though, ive only seen one other gl couple in a bl, CrisAm in friendzone 2, so theres not a lot of precedent for this) Also though, I feel like hoping for a gl side couple after all the amazing representation of mlm couples, healthy relationships, and the amount of stereotypes broken down in this show is just too naive. Its kind of the same reasoning of why im not as upset about the whole wai situation as i would normally be! Yeah, they seriously kinda dropped the ball on the wai situation, but they also did SO well with things like heteronormative stereotypes and with communication, so im willing to let it go without as much complaint, if that makes sense? So i can see theyre going for Something with inkpaa, but im almost entirely expecting them to end up unresolved and im kinda okay with that! Im curious what everyone else thinks though because i can be a bit pessimistic at times lol
okok second order of business: I would like to just agree with unreliable anon and say Yeah if theres ever a groupchat made i will give zero shits about anonymity! Its funny because im stuck between having fun with anonymity and also saying this one thing that would give me away immediately isjfiefhosihgego its just this weird fact that somewhat (SOMEWHAT) links me to one of the actors we all like, so i might say it sometime if i get to ansty about it!! i told my roommate about it but theyll only understand so much since they arent into any of the shows im watching lol so im lowkey dying to tell someone about it.. we shall see
and lastly (i think), third order of business: roundtable shenanigans :D
in response to the anons talking about the twitter drama: its so stupid and literally no ones business and thats all ill say. people need to worry about their own lives <3
to operanon: thank you for the warm welcome!! <3 im quite curious to see if you are the oldest!! im at least older than archer but i wont say by how much ;D
to reliable anon: i am indeed no longer lost :D i have found my place at the roundtable as it would seem
this roundtable is so fun and its so cool to be a part of it!! thank u to archer and the other anons for making this so cool and welcoming and awesome!!!
-lost anon
ps. im so curious who heart anon's mastress is
pps. i had two other tumblr tabs open in an attempt to make sure i remembered everything i wanted to type and respond to so i hope i didnt forget someone sdifjsidhgsiogdhoi
ppps. My nightly routine has become reading all the new fics in the bad buddy tag on ao3, so if anyones interested, i could give recs everyday or week? (idk which would work best for me or for archer but if theres interest i think it would be fun :D)
hello, dearest lost anon!!
so as for your first point - boy oh boy... so, i guess i'm gonna have to address the elephant in the room in terms of the promotion: as bad buddy is what you would call a "bl", all marketing for it is targeted at straight girls. this is why the bl label is a bit controversial among those of us who are queer and who watch these series - because the main thing that distinguishes bl content from queer content is that the former sees its target audience in straight girls and the latter in queer people. this is also why there was no serious promotion for inkpa - because the target audience of bls is typically not interested in wlw. however, with how the promotion was done for the series - i think it still heavily hints at inkpa being a very prominent secondary couple, as milk and love were promoting bad buddy quite a bit along with ohm and nanon. (which is not even a particularly common occurrence for secondary couples in general). and putting the marketing aspect of it all aside, i have pointed out multiple times that - from my extensive previous experience with bls - inkpa seems like an incredibly formulaic secondary couple, and i think they are doing a very simple, straight-to-the-point storyline for them, where they do eventually end up together. just my take on it, but this is what i genuinely believe.
as for your second point, i am REALLY curious what is so obvious and what links you to one of the actors 👀
re: p.s. - i have some ideas, but i am staying respectfully silent on the matter.
re: p.p.p.s. - if you want to send some fic recs our way, i think a lot of people would appreciate it! as often as you wish <3
In The Storm
Pairings: Ethan Ramsey x Victoria Clarke
Word count: 3.5k
Summary: An E.M.T ride along takes a terrifying turn.
Rating: T
Category: fluff, angst
Tumblr media
The dark skies of Boston stretched for miles, the heavy thunder echoing throughout the hospital. Every so often there was a flash of lightning and the rain thrashed against the windows.
Victoria was waiting by reception to be picked up so she could do her paramedic ride along. It was necessary for doctors to take an E.M.T ride along for experience in case they were called out to an accident.
Victoria ran her hands through her double braids sighing as she checked the time on her phone. The rain wasn’t supposed to ease at any point during the day so Victoria’s shift would be done in the pouring rain.
“Still in the building?” A sarcastic voice said behind her. Victoria turned around and saw Ethan chuckling.
“Are you that desperate to get rid of me for the day?” Victoria laughed.
“I’ll be able to maintain my lunch schedule on time today.” Ethan pulled her closer and wrapped his arms around her.
“Don’t you like it when I have lunch with you?” Victoria looked up at him.
“I like the company. But I also like to finish my lunch on time.” Ethan smiled.
“Well I’m sorry I’m such a distraction.” Victoria pretended to pull a sad face.
Ethan, knowing she was pretending, cupped her face with his hands and leaned down to kiss her. Victoria melted into the kiss, smiling as she pulled away resting her forehead against his.
“Try not to get into too much trouble.” Ethan said.
“Trouble and I are complete opposites.” Victoria laughed.
“I’ll be the judge of that when you’re back here in one piece. Have a good day and I’ll see you later.” Ethan gave Victoria one final kiss before heading back into the main part of the hospital.
Victoria smiled as she watched him walk off. She didn’t think anyone could make her heart (and fanny because she’d been watching too much of Love Island UK) flutter as much as Ethan did. Being around him made her so happy.
“Victoria!” A voice called out from the entrance. Victoria looked up and saw Tamara, Rafael’s E.M.T colleague wave to her as she walked over.
“Hi Tamara!” Victoria grinned giving her a hug. The two women had gotten to know each other over the years, having met through various paramedics runs.
“Are you excited for your paramedic ride along?”
“Yeah but I’m also nervous. The weather isn’t helping either.” Victoria laughed a little.
“You’ll be fine. Just imagine every patient is in a hospital bed and you’ll feel like you’ve never left.” Tamara nudged her in encouragement as they headed out the hospital.
They both ran to the ambulance getting absolutely drenched as they opened the doors and sat inside.
“Jesus! I’ve never known Boston weather like this!” Victoria exclaimed as she shivered.
“Welcome to the East.” Tamara joked.
“I am from the East! I can’t remember the last time New York had a storm.”
“It’ll probably travel to New York. Then they can be covered in a wet blanket.” Tamara winked as the ambulance pulled away from the hospital.
The ambulance drove round the city, this was protocol in case they passed an emergency and were there on hand to help out. That way, lives would be saved much quicker. Just as they turned the corner towards the Common, the radio buzzed.
All available emergency vehicles to respond to Northeastern university, there has been a road traffic accident outside the university campus.
Tamara turned on the sirens and pushed her foot further on the pedal. “Here we go. The adrenaline is about to kick in.”
— — — — —
The doctors and nurses at Edenbrook were moving as fast as they could as they tried to clear beds, get the trauma tags sorted and find all the spare equipment they had. A road accident meant all hands on deck.
The patients were rolling in one by one, Edenbrook and Mass Kenmore were the nearest treatment facilities and both hospitals were expecting a high volume of patients.
Ethan looked at the scene around him as the interns were treating the green and yellow tagged victims. He had heard on the radio that a patient in arrest was on his way in. The doors then flew open.
Ethan saw Victoria doing chest compressions as the monitor beeped loudly. She was completely drenched from the rain. Ethan rushed over to take over chest compressions as they wheeled the patient into the trauma room. There was no time to hang around as she hurried out the room and out the hospital ready to treat the next flux of patients.
Ethan and the team around him worked on the patient before calling it. He took off his protective gear and walked out the room, watching Edenbrook work it’s magic.
Doctors and nurses were moving between patients as fast as they could, all tending to the victims of the accident. Ethan set to work, moving fluently between patients, tagging and treating.
It must’ve been at least an hour before Ethan had a moment to himself, he retreated to his office where there was peace and quiet and he could gather his thoughts.
Ethan made a coffee from his coffee machine and sat down at his desk. He looked at the photos on his desk. One of them was a photo of himself and Victoria, the other a sole photo of just her. Ethan smiled as he picked up the latter photo and ran his thumb across it.
He was so proud of her when she announced she had been called up to do a paramedic ride along. He knew how much she had wanted to experience the life of an E.M.T. Ethan had joked that she should’ve become an E.M.T so she can experience the adrenaline more often.
Ethan drank his coffee and pulled out his phone, sending a text message to Victoria. He knew she probably wouldn’t read it but she would have a nice message to come back to later on.
Little did he know, she was right in the middle of the action across town.
— — — — —
The sound of thunder was deafening and the rain was falling from the sky like bullets.
Victoria and Tamara raced back to the scene to help other victims. They got out of the E.M.T and ran towards the scene.
“Are there anymore trapped?” Tamara yelled to her supervisor.
“There’s two in the car near the entrance to the uni! But there’s a power line that is threatening to fall so we can’t get to them yet!” The supervisor shouted.
“How long do you reckon?” Victoria said.
“It could be a while. We need to tend to some other patients.”
“Is there anything we can do?”
“Just sit tight. We’ve got other rescue vehicles dealing with the patients needing treatment.”
Victoria and Tamara retreated back into their vehicle.
“We can’t just sit here surely. We need to go help.” Victoria sighed.
“It’s too dangerous Victoria. We’re just meant to treat not rescue.” Tamara replied.
“But they could be seriously injured!”
“And so could we if we go and help them. The experts will get them out and then we’ll treat them. It’s the only way.”
Victoria sighed in defeat. She knew it would be dangerous to go and help. There were emergency workers with much more experience than her who had helped those trapped before. Victoria was only a doctor, not a firefighter.
But sitting around doing nothing made Victoria feel useless. People needed their help. And Victoria was never one to just sit around.
Not hesitating any further, she opened the ambulance door.
“Where are you going?”
“I can’t just sit around.”
“Victoria you’re mad. If you end up hurt we’ll both be in trouble.”
“Well we have to at least try. And I’ve never given up on anyone and I’m certainly not going to today.” Victoria jumped out the vehicle. Tamara rolled her eyes but followed her.
The two women raced towards the scene again, as they saw a car near the power line.
“Hello?! Can anyone hear me?” Victoria shouted into the vehicle.
“Yes! Over here!” A voice cried out. Victoria cautiously moved closer and saw a young woman lying in her seat, blood covering her head.
“It’s okay. We’re going to get you out.” Tamara reassured the woman.
“You need to help my daughter! Take my daughter first!” The woman winced in pain.
Victoria looked in the back seat and saw a young girl lying in her car seat unconscious.
“I’ll go help her. What’s her name?” Victoria asked.
“Amy. She’s only seven.”
Victoria leaned out of the car and moved round the side so she could get better access. She learned inside the left window.
“Amy? Amy can you hear me?” Victoria called out to the little girl who didn’t respond.
“Is she going to be ok?” The mum asked.
“She’s going to be fine ma’am but I need you to let me help you too. Can you tell me your name?” Tamara said.
Tamara talked to the woman, learning her name was Lucie and that her head and chest hurt. Victoria focused on the young girl pressing two fingers to her neck, breathing a sigh of relief that she was alive.
“I’m going to call for back up. We need to remove some pieces of the car before we can get them out.” Tamara reached for her radio and relayed a message.
Victoria reassessed the little girls injures, feeling blood from the back of her seat. She didn’t look like she had any other injures.
“I need a a paediatric backboard now!” Victoria called.
“They’re on their way. Just hang on.” Tamara yelled.
It wasn’t long before help arrived, firefighters and the paramedic supervisor arrived with the necessary equipment.
“I told you guys to wait!” The supervisor shouted.
“Dan we have a woman with internal bleeding and her seven year old daughter with a head injury! If we waited, we might’ve lost them both!” Tamara shouted.
“That doesn’t matter!”
“Can you guys stop arguing and get to work. We have two critically ill patients here!” Victoria shouted.
The two others stopped and nodded and moved out the way to let the firefighters through. Victoria stepped back shivering in the rain that was still heavy and the wind had picked up rapidly.
“How long do you reckon it will take them?” Victoria asked Tamara.
“They work as quick as lighting. They’ll get to them in no time.” Tamara replied.
“Speaking of lightning.” Victoria looked out over the water and saw flecks of lightning in the distance.
“Looks like the storms not over yet.” Tamara sighed.
“Hold it.” A voice yelled. The two women looked back towards the damaged car where the firefighters were looking underneath.
“What is it?”
“There’s someone underneath. We need another backboard now!”
Victoria raced towards the ambulance grabbing another board before racing over to the scene again.
“Got it!” Victoria placed the backboard underneath the vehicle. Other paramedics helped take the person away whilst Victoria and Tamara went back to focus on Lucie and Amy.
Take the girl first. We’ve got room for both of them. Make sure she gets warm.” Tamara said.
Victoria nodded as she gently undid the seat belt and slid the backboard in with the help of others as she got Amy out the car. Victoria assessed her once more just to make sure she hadn’t missed any injuries before hurrying over to the ambulance.
“Watch out! IT’S GONNA GO! GET BACK!” A voice yelled.
Victoria turned round and it was like everything was moving in slow motion. The power lines above them was falling and everyone was sprinting away to avoid getting hit. Before Victoria could react, she was thrown to the ground by someone, their body shielding her from harm.
She saw a lot of sparks before everything went black.
“Make sure Mrs Cassell has her morphine injection before moving her to a room.”
“Will do Doctor Ramsey.”
Ethan sighed as the nurse headed down the hallway, chart in hand and he sat down in one of the free chairs.
“Doctor Ramsey?” A voice said. Ethan looked up and saw Doctor Trinh.
“Are you okay Doctor Trinh?”
“Yeah I just... wondered if you’d heard from Victoria at all. With not many patients coming in I guessed she might be available and near her phone.”
“I haven’t heard from her. But don’t worry, I’m sure she’s ok. She’s tough remember that.” Ethan smiled at the small resident.
Sienna smiled back before nodding and walking off. Ethan knew she was always on edge when Victoria went off to do something. It might’ve been months since the Senator attack but she wasn’t the only one still nervous when she didn’t see Victoria. Ethan hated her being out of his sight but he knew he couldn’t hold her back forever.
As he was filling out patient charts, Ethan checked his phone every few minutes, his conversation with Sienna still on his mind. Despite reassuring others, he would never fully be able to relax until he saw her in the flesh.
As Ethan got up and made his way to his office, he ran into Ines.
“Doctor Ramsey thank god!”
“What is it?”
“A power line fell close to one of the ambulances outside the traffic site, we’re getting three out of the seven injured.” Ines explained.
“Do we know who?” Ethan asked panic rising in his chest.
“All I know it’s that it’s rescue 74.” Ines explains running off down the hall.
Ethan’s heart sank.
Rescue 74 was Victoria’s ambulance.
“BP and heart rate are stable.”
“Let’s order a head CT.”
Victoria recognised that voice. It was one that she didn’t hear often but for some reason, it sounded oddly familiar.
“She looks like she was very lucky.”
“I agree. Let’s clean these scrapes. If the head CT is clear, I see no reason to keep her here, she can be discharged.”
“Yes Doctor Carrick.”
Doctor Carrick? What was she doing at Mass Kenmore? Victoria opened her eyes.
“Seems like trouble seems to find you often Doctor Clarke.” Tobias chuckled as he looked down at her.
“What am I doing here?” Victoria asked groggily.
“You have the pleasure of being treated by the Kenmore doctors.” Tobias said. When Victoria tried to sit up he gently pushed her back down. “Woah hey no sudden movements, we’re ordering you a head CT to rule out anything.”
“And if there’s nothing there?”
“Then you’re free to go. Ethan will be worried about you.”
“When isn’t he.”
Tobias laughed at that. “He cares about you a lot. And so do many others. You bounce back from things very quickly. You’re probably on your eighth life by now.”
Soon, some doctors came in and cleaned the blood off of her and wheeled her to her CT scan. She had taken plenty of patients there before but it was different when you were the one having the scan. Victoria suddenly felt the nerves her patients must’ve felt when they had theirs done.
“Very good Doctor Clarke. You kept very still.” Tobias’ voice echoed through the room.
“Are you being sarcastic?”
“No this is just how I am. Although sarcastic is my middle name as Ethan has probably already told you.”
Victoria rolled her eyes as she was taken back to a room. Tobias had her results in hand.
“Well I don’t see any problems. Maybe the youngest member of Edenbrook’s diagnostics team has spotted something I haven’t.” Tobias held up the CT scan for Victoria to see.
“It would appear she agrees with you. Does that mean I can go?”
“Indeed.” Tobias replied.
“Fabulous. And it’s such a shame as I’ve enjoyed yours and Kenmore’s company so much.” Victoria rolled her eyes sarcastically.
“Was that sarcasm?” Tobias raised an eyebrow.
“Didn’t you know? Sarcasm is my middle name.” Victoria winked at him.
Tobias laughed back as he filled in Victoria’s chart and signed her discharge paper. “Is Ethan coming to get you?”
“He probably doesn’t even know I’m here, let alone what happened.”
“I can take you to Edenbrook if you want.”
“That’s not necessary.”
“It’s the least I can do.” Tobias smiled. “Maybe you can give me a few tips on how to diagnose and treat quicker.
“Ha ha very funny.” Victoria swung her legs off the side of the bed.
It wasn’t long before they were both in Tobias’ car driving to Edenbrook. Tobias kept looking over at Victoria as she stared out the window.
“So what were you doing in an E.M.T uniform? Thinking of a career change?”
“Hoping to take my spot on the team?”
“God no. I just didn’t think the diagnostics team would let go of their youngest recruit.”
“I was doing the traditional paramedic ride along. Although it wasn’t supposed to end up with me being the patient.” Victoria laughed a little.
“Well you do have a habit of getting into trouble.” Tobias said
“Am I that obvious?”
“Just a bit”. Tobias laughed.
Victoria laughed. “It was just... so thrilling and exciting. Just like being in the hospital.
“I did it once not that long ago, even considered a career change.”
“How comes you didn’t?” Victoria asked.
“I guess I would’ve missed the solving. Once you hand it to the doctors they take it from there. I would’ve missed the mystery.”
“Fair enough.”
They reached the entrance of Edenbrook and Victoria got out of the car.
“I can make my own way into the hospital. Thanks for the lift.” Victoria smiled.
“No problem Clarke, see you around.” Tobias smiled as he drove off down the road.
Victoria sighed as she stared up at the hospital, the events of today catching up on her. She walked into the hospital, each footstep heavier than the last.
“Have you called round the hospitals?”
“Yes she’s okay. She was taken to Mass Kenmore.”
“Well she’s not there anymore.” Bryce gestures to his friends.
“Victoria!” Sienna cried as she ran towards her and hugged her tightly.
“Woah Sienna I’m okay!” Victoria laughed a little.
“We’ve been so worried about you!”
“You don’t need to worry anymore I’m fine.”
“Christ Rookie you nearly gave me a heart attack.” Another voice said. Victoria turned to see Ethan heading towards her pulling her tightly against his chest.
“I’ve been known to make people worry often.” Victoria replied wrapping her arms around him.
“Come on. Let’s get you home.” Ethan took her hand and lead her out the hospital to his car. Victoria sighed happily as she felt the warmth of Ethan’s car sink into her skin.
“What happened to the others I was with? Is Tamara ok?”
“She’s fine. She was brought here and explained what happened. Looks like the power line missed you guys and only hit your ambulance.
“What about my patients? I had a seven year old girl to look after?! And there was someone trapped under the car!” Victoria sat up straight worried.
“Woah Vic calm down. Was her name Amy and her mum was called Lucie?” When Victoria nodded Ethan continued, “they were both brought here. The mum needed surgery but she’s going to be fine and so is her daughter. And the guy trapped under the car is fine too.”
“Thank god.” Victoria breathed a sigh of relief.
Ethan pulled his car into his apartments garage and led Victoria up to the elevator. When he got his keys into the door he made a beeline for the bathroom.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to run you a bath.” Ethan replied.
“I see. Am I allowed to bring a special guest?” Victoria grinned.
“I think you can.”
Grinning, the couple stripped off their clothes as the bath filled up and got into it, both sighing happily. Victoria sat in front of Ethan and leaned back into his chest as he wrapped his arms around her.
“So how was your day?” Ethan chuckled.
“Wild. But it was exhilarating and scary. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“Well I’m glad you’re back in one piece. Just like I said so this morning.”
“I’ll always come back in one piece.” Victoria smiled.
They laid in the bath in silence, Ethan’s hands running up and down her sides as Victoria turns to lay her head and snuggle against his chest.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Ethan broke the silence.
“I was just thinking about everything. Being an E.M.T is just as exhausting as being a doctor.”
“Not thinking of a career change are you?”
“You sound like Tobias.” Victoria chuckled.
“Tobias?” Ethan asked.
“He brought me back to Edenbrook once I was discharged from Mass Kenmore.”
“As long as that’s the only time you’re car sharing with him Rookie.” Ethan narrowed his eyes.
“Don’t worry. Tobias doesn’t have me in his bed most nights. Only you get that pleasure.”
Ethan laughed as he tightened his arms around her.
“Victoria?”
“Yes Ethan?”
“Promise me you’ll always come back to me.”
Victoria lifted her head to look at Ethan properly. She leant forward and pressed her lips to his softly before breaking away.
“I promise. Forever and always.”
Warning- Swearing And mention of death
3rd person
Dr.Reyes walked Y/n down the hall towards one of the concrete rooms. The sound of her shoes echoed along the halls. Dr.Reyes opened the door and gestured her in "here is your room, for now. You have some clothes on the bed with some toilet trees." Dr.Reyes said with a small smile, y/n walked into the room "What now, doctor?" y/n chuckled, she looked around. The room was slightly cold "Were going to monitor you. Make sure you don't lose control of your mutation." Reyes stated and y/n turned around and looked at her. Reyes closed the door closed with a slight slam.
Y/n POV
I looked around the room, a few outfits sat on the green-colored bed 'I wonder what there's do around here.' i thought before I laughed "probably nothing but good girls.' and got changed.
I grabbed a pair of dark jeans and a black hoodie with a pair of slip-on shoes that were placed in the corner of the room. I fixed my hair and exited the room. The facility was big but not like a hospital. I walked to the end of the hall and took a left. I walked passed an open door and heard Reyes talking ' i guess this is the room?' and looked through the door slightly, 2 boys and 3 girls. They were sat in a half-circle on yoga mats.
"I'm not going to that, no way." I thought to myself and walked down the hall towards the exit/ entrance of this building. Reyes told me some directions but not a lot. I'll have to ask one of the people here. I walked up to the door and pushed on it, it didn't budge. I pushed it again still nothing "Open please." I yelled out to no one in particular. I heard the lock to the door open "well then..." and pushed open and walked outside. There was a church and then the main building with a fountain in the middle.
The gate was open, but you can tell there's a field around this place you can feel it. I walked towards the church, seeing a giant clock on the top "Could see I can break it and sit up there. That might be fun." I said out loud, see that there isn't anything to do here. I walked in the church and up the stairs to my right. The steel stairs shook a little as I walked up to them. I got to the top and climbed over the rail to get the clock platform.
I knocked on the wood, something my grandfather taught me to see if the wood was rotten or not. The wood sounded hollow, I kicked it and the bottom cracked. I started pulling out 2 pieces of the wood, just big enough for me to sit in and not get splinters.
I looked out of the clock tower, a concrete block sat in the middle of an old-looking basketball court. It had a giant chain and harness on it "What the fuck?" I said and sat down, my feet dangling off the edge.
"I wonder where the road leads to? There no cars here." I thought to myself as I looked around some more. There was a giant field surrounding the facility, and then a treeline so ways back.
I saw the 2 brunettes from the meeting earlier walk out of the main building, they seemed to be laughing at something waling towards the church. The two girls looked up and saw me and pointed up "Hey what are you doing up there?!" she yelled up at me, it was faint but I could still hear her "I'm god! you?" I yelled back down laughing, swinging my feet.
"No your not. Come down before you get hurt." The girl in the blue sweater yelled and I signed, standing up and walking down the stairs. I opened the church's main door open and the 2 girls were standing in front of it a few feet away. I smirked "Wow, you guys are younger. How old are you." I chuckled, the 2 were probably about an inch shorter than me.
The girl with long hair laughed "Your not much older. were both 16." the girl in the blueish black sweater nodded "You guys are children, You guys should be in fucking school... Or in alleyway doing graffiti and dumb shit like me at 16... I'm not a good influence " I drew off "Oh I'm y/n, I'm 17 btw. So you're not that younger I guess..."
The blue sweater smiled "Rahne." and she held out her hand, I shock head "No no no, I don't shake hands. Not anymore." I said in an anxious tone "Danielle, May I ask why?" Danielle crossed her arms over her chest "You'll learn one day. Not now." I smirked, "So who else is here?" I asked looking around, the outside is empty "Well you've met me and Rahne. Then you have Roberto, his family sent him here to be cured, Then Illyana She's not so nice, and Sam he's nice." Danielle answered.
"Interesting. Well then" I signed "So what's there to do here? It looks pretty empty and dead..." I said looking at the dead bushes around the entrance of the main building.
"Not really, we have the church, a commons room with a TV, Foosball table, And a mini library. We also have a pool, that's it." Rahne said before Dani could. I clicked my tongue on the roof of my mouth "So what was that meeting room thing you guys were in? Do you guys do that every day?" I asked the girls looking around, maybe for another place to climb.
"Pretty much. Its like group therapy. Except we have to do to get out of here, you can not go but you'll get out much later than expected." Rahne replied 'she's one of the nice kids. Both of them are.' i thought to myself before looking at the "How long are we here for? 3 months or 3 years?"
Danielle and Rahne looked at each other "Umm, we don't know. Rahne's been here for about 3, I've been here for 2 months." Dani said quietly. I nodded slowly and clicked my tongue "Fucking great. Well, I'm going to go and maybe fuck around and break something. See you, girls." I saluted and walked away 'this is fucking great' I yelled in my head.
3rd person
"Well then... She seems nice..." Danielle said as she watched Y/n walk away, Rahne smiled "Shes gonna get in trouble a lot... I can feel it." Dani nodded and the 2 walked to the field to hang out for the cool afternoon.
Y/n pushed the door open and bumped into someone "What the fuck. Watch it." A girl said from the other side, Y/n looked at her. The girl had long straight blonde hair and bangs "You watch it bitch. You're not scary." Y/n flipped her off and walked off laughing.
Illyana turned around and watched the girl walk away with her middle finger up "Bitch." and Went outside to tag the fountain or the back of the brick building.
Y/n took some turns before being called from down the hall "Y/n!" Reyes yelled to the girl and she turned around "Yeees" she drew out as the women walked closer. Reyes looked at her with a brow raised "Where were you this morning? I haven't been able to find you all day. You know you have to check in with me." the Doctor said in a stern voice. Y/n laughed "I was outside, duh. You have cameras all over and you couldn't find me?" She mocked "That's bullshit, Doctor and you know that."
Reyes signed "Am I going to have to assign you, someone, to walk you everywhere? Y/n." Y/n scoffed and looked at the women "What?" Reyes repeated herself s "Am I going to have to assign someone to watch you during the day?" Reyes put her hands in her pockets "Haha, ill just lock them in a room and leave." Reyes nodded and wrote something down on a note pad from her pocket "We will see about that, Mrs. L/n. But for now, you are confident for the rest of the night. My superiors believe you should not be out alone for now."
Y/n grinned "For what? hurting your feelings?" she mocked in a childish tone of voice, y/n laughed at Reye's facial expression "While you are here, you listen to me. okay, I am in charge here. Not you." Reyes asserted, glancing  up into Y/ns eyes  "Oh yeah?" Y/n said looking down at the doctor slightly getting close to her face "I've controlled people way stronger and bigger than you. You don't scare me, doctor. You're weak." Y/n had a devilish smirk on her face, one that could make a grown man cry.
"Confinement now. Sedation or free will. You choose, Y/n."  The Doctor said in a steady voice, y/n still close to her.
Y/n scoffed "Fine." and stepped back, The doctor let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. The doctor nodded and stood behind the girl as she walked down the hall towards the concrete rooms"Lockdown, off." Reyes said and the gate opened up, and so did the doors.
Y/n pushed opened her assigned room and looked at the doctor "bye-bye." she teased and waved her fingers at the doctor. Reyes closed the door with a slam. Closing the opening on the top of the door.
Reyes turned from the door and walked down the hall, to go to her office and the camera room to check on the other mutants "Doctor Reyes!" Was heard from down the other hall, Reyes turned towards the voice, Rahne and Dani jogged towards her.
"Yess girls?" she asked as the girls got closer, putting her hands in her pockets "Why did we just go into lockdown? is everything alright?" Rahne asked Reyes cleared her throat and thought for a second "Yes, everything is fine. Just a glitch..." she said was a gentle smile, trying to keep what just happened a secret "Oh, okay." Rahne nodded "Oh do you know where, umm what her name. Y/n is? we've been looking for her." Dani asked, Reyes, nodded slightly "Yes, umm. She just got done with the test. She in her room. She is to not be bothered for the rest of the night. Sorry girls."
Rahne and Dani nodded and Reyes walked away. Rahne and Dani watch the women walk away, and turn down the long hall.
Y/n POV
I kicked the bottom of the door and walked towards the bed and sat down. The room was cold and the light flickered. I  laughed at the situation and fell back onto the hard bed under me "What the fuck!" I yelled looking at the peeling ceiling. I looked at the camera in the corner "Hello, doctor." I waved at the camera which had a red light now "I'm just gonna go to bed, I guess," I said with a yawn and turned away from the camera.
Next day
"It's 8:30, please start to get ready for the day. A required meeting is at 10:30. Everyone should be there." I heard Reyes talk from the speaker, I groaned and heard the speaker connected tot he camera in my room crack "Ill be there in 10 minutes to bring you to my office You'll be with me today until group." I herd Reyes say and sat up "you're kidding me... Am not a fucking kid!" I yelled and changed into a pair of ripped jeans and a long sleeve shirt, I tucked it into my jeans and put on the slide on sneakers I was wearing yesterday.
I fixed my hair and waited for Reyes to come down. A few minutes passed before I heard the lock to the door open and the door opened "Good morning, how did  you sleep?" Reyes asked me as I exited the room and closed the door behind me "Fine, Can I go to the bathroom?" I asked as we walked down the hall, Reyes nodded and we walked to the bathroom. Reyes stayed outside while I took my time. I do not want to be with these women today.
A few minutes later I exited the bathroom and Reyes mentioned down the hall. We walked to her office in silence. She opened the door I walked in "Why am I here?" I asked as I fell into the couch in front of her desk. She sat in her desk chair and looked up "Because of the incident yesterday. I am going to watch you for the first half of today, until the group. Then I am going to put you with one of the trusted mutants to watch you until I believe you can roam free. Do you understand?"
I looked at her "Who is it that gets to watch me?" I questioned looking at the bookcases around the room, She stopped typing on her computer and looked up "Sam Guthrie. He has agreed to be your, so-called 'keeper'. He will keep you calm and out of trouble, like yesterday you got into a small conflict with Illyana." she stated and looked again at her computer and started typing.
I sighed and leaned back on the couch, The room was light up by a lamp on her desk. The bookcases were filled with books and random Items, I guess from her higher-ups. The room also had file cabinets along one wall 'probably all of the other mutants that have come and go. Mines probably in there as well with the others...I'll have to get my hands on it.' I thought to myself.
The sound of typing and page-flipping were heard through the room. The woman was very focused on her work. Only leaving the room to go across the hall to check on cameras. An hour passed and it was time for the group. Reyes and I walked to the room, as Reyes ha to set up.
"You can sit there." Reyes pointed to the seat closest to the door and her, I rolled my eyes and dropped into the wooden chair. The room was filled with different types of Items, like yoga mats and an easel for painting.
The mutants all came at once like they had a meeting before coming, I waved to Dani and Rahne. Dani raised a brow "Why are you here so early?" she asked in a quiet tone as she walked to her seat, I gestured to Reyes and rolled my eyes. Rahne shook her head and took a seat, Reyes looked at the room "Hello, how is everyone?" She asked and took out her clipboard.
Good was muttered around the room "Whos the new girl?" the boy across from me asked, looking me up and down. Reyes nodded and gestured towards me "This is Y/n L/n. She came in 3 days ago." I waved and looked around.
The blonde from yesterday, who was holding a purple puppet glaring at me. I smiled at her and she rolled her eyes. There was also a boy right next to me, he had a cast and sleeve on and a grey sweatshirt with a hat.
"Why haven't we seen her ?" the guy  from across the room asked, Reyes, cleared her throat "Because Roberto, she is..." The woman thought for a second "She is more troublesome than my superiors anticipated." I chuckled and leaned back "Oh my."
"Y/n, why don't you introduce yourself? same to the rest of you." Reyes asked pointing her clipboard towards me, I sat up and pulled the sleeves of my shirt over my hands " I'm y/n, as you know... I'm here because I can control people like 'puppets' and drive them insane. Close to killing themselves... insane." I said in a quiet tone "Also, I'm here because I'm just fucking trouble."
Reyes looked over at me "Language, Y/n. Now everyone else introduces yourself." The room went quiet and Dani spoke up "Well you know me and Rahen." Dani said with a smile. Roberto looked up "I'm Roberto." I shook my head and looked at the blonde "Show and tell, sweetheart. What's your name."
The blonde looked at me and smiled "Your nightmare" I laughed, and took a deep breath "You're like a chihuahua. All bark and no bite. I asked for your name, not your coping mechanism." She gasped and gripped the purple dragon puppet "Her name is Illyana." The boy next to Me answered, I took a dramatic breath "Wow, The chihuahua couldn't talk for herself. Thank you 'Luck Combs." I heard him huff.
I heard a chuckled from across the room, it was Dani "Now, Mr.country. What is your name?" I said turning in my seat facing him 'Imma annoy the shit out of him. he seems fun.' He sighed and fixed his hat "My name is Sam." I nodded and gave a soft smile before turning back around facing Reyes with the most annoying smile I can.
"Now that everyone has introduced themselves. Were going to talk about the incident that leads us into where we are now."I rolled my eyes and zoned out, Already knowing 3 out of 5 incidents.
3rd person
"I killed 18 men." Y/n heard Illyana making her zone back in, "What else?" Reyes asked the girl "I killed them with my sword and Lockheed." She smirked with a strong voice. Reyes wrote down some notes and looked at the same "Sam what about you?" Y/n focused her attention on him, still looking at the floor. Sam shuffled in his seat "I got claustrophobic." y/n shifted in her seat a little, wanting to be able to hear him better "I... Freaked out, and blasted. Killing my dad and his team."
"Oh, shit..." Y/n muttered putting her hand on her face. Sam looked at her and then back at the floor "Y/n, why don't you share?"  Reyes asked the girl, y/n shook her head "No thanks." Reyes nodded and wrote down something on her page. A few more minutes went by before the meeting was over.
"Well, that wraps up today's meeting. Y/n and Sam, please stay behind for a moment. Everyone may leave, you're free for the day." Reyes stated and the room stood up, Y/n and sam stayed in their seats. Once the 4 left Reyes close the door "What is it? gonna lock me in a room again?" Y/n smirked standing up fixing her shirt.
"No, y/n. This is sam, the person I said volunteered to watch you?" Reyes said with a soft smile, Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose and turned towards sam "Well the aren't you lucky country boy." Reyes cleared her throat "Y/n. Be nice, this is your last chance." And with that Reyes left, probably going to her office or the camera room.
Sam stood up and fixed his sleeve "So what did you do? to you know, have to have someone to watch you?" sam asked as the two walked out of the room, Y/n chuckled "I threatened Reyes last night, told her that she was weak and that I've dealt with people stronger than her. I also got into a little conflict with Illyana the other day and apparently Reyes though it was a big deal."
The two turned the corner walking outside "What did you do to Illyana?" Sam questions, knowing that Illyana isn't hard to break. Y/n stopped walking and looked at him "I opened the door, I bumped into her. She told me to watch it, so I told her that she wasn't scared and flipped her off. That was it." Sam turned around and nodded slowly, rethinking his agreement with Dr.Reyes.
"Well then. Umm, I'm going to practice and your gonna stay out here on the wall, and try to not get in trouble?" Sam asked the girl I front on him, She smirked nodded"Fine, I can't promise though." and followed Sam to the concrete block. He took off his sweater and sleeve, Y/n watched to the church outside wall and stood against it. Sam hooked himself up and looked and y/n, she waved her hand to him and shook his head and prepared to blast off.
Y/n watched sam as he launched into the air, right when he did. Y/n ran into the church and up to the clock, the wood was replaced with a tarp which she held up and sat where she had on her first day. She watched Sam fly through the air, the bright orange light that followed him. Sam went around a few more times before he started going off track, he crashed into the ground and Y/n flinched as she heard the crash, sam flew back into the air and crashed into the concrete a few more times before stopping.
Y/n Jaw dropped as she watched the boy lay on the ground for a few seconds before standing back up "I thought I was messed up." she muttered to herself as sam Unbuckled  the harness from his torso and looked at the wall y/n was at before he blasted "Y/N!" Sam yelled for the girl and she held in a laugh swinging her feet, hitting the brick, Y/n watched sam look around while putting his sweatshirt on and sleeve.
Sam looked up at the church and saw y/n sitting in the clock "I told you not to leave the wall, come down here." He yelled up to the girl and she laughed "Ask nicely." she yelled down to him, he shook his head and rubbed his face with his right hand "Can you PLEASE! come down?" He yelled up, drawing out the 'please', Y/n stood up and walked down to the boy.
Sam stood a few feet in front of the door waiting for the girl. Y/n walk out and laughed "You look like a dad who just saw his daughter's boyfriend." she said holding her stomach laughing, After a few moments y/n stopped and took a deep breath fixing her hair. Sam shook his head at the girl with a small smile "you are... something." She smirked and walk to the boy glancing up at him "Its called trauma, sweetheart." and flicked his hat. He rolled his eyes and fixed his hat and nodded.
The two stood close to each other for a few moments before Y/n spoke up "So those crashes you tool, you need medical attention or?" Y/n asked stepping back from Sam, looking at his eye which was turned red. He shook his head "No, I'm fine. Thanks."
The two stood in silence before y/n started to walk away from him towards the cemetery behind the church "Where are you going?" Sam asked catching up to the girl, she laughs "Looking around. I have only seen a little bit of the main building and whatever you can see from the church. So, Sam is going to come with me and walk around while I get familiar with the place. Okay?" Y/n looked at Sam and winked "Okay." Sam agreed and the two walked around in silence for a while, Y/n taking a moment at a few graves to look at them and push away weeds covering them.
Y/n ran towards the giant greenfield looking at the tree line among it "DO you ever wonder what's behind it?" Y/n asked sam as she kicked off her sneakers letting them fall to the grass. Sam walked to her side "Yeah who wouldn't, also what are you doing?" Sam asked looking at the now barefoot girl.
She stared at him "What does it look like? Imma runs down the hill, with no shoes on. Possibly fall and hurt myself but imma have fun. With or with you." And with that y/n ran down the hill laughing. The grass wasn't so long that she could trip on it but it was long enough to not be able to see rocks. Y/n tripped slightly but caught her footing and continued down. She got to the bottom and danced around, Sam watching her from above.
Y/n did a few spins and fell to the ground on her back. Sam sat down on the grass where he was standing. Y/n took some deep breaths and let the world stop spinning before sitting up. Y/n looked up the hill and saw sam sitting there looking at the sky, distracted.
Y/n stood up and slowly walked up the hill and sat down next to him "What you looking at." Y/n said getting close to his ear, Sam flinched "dear lord. The sky, you?" Sam Chuckled glancing at the girl who had moved away from him "You. Because I'm stuck with you for a while."  Y/n said as she leaned on her hand looking at sam.
Y/n and Sam sat on top of the hill for a while in silence, the two were strangers and had nothing in common that they knew of. But they both felt like they could trust each other. The sky started turning orange and sam stood up and gave y/n his right hand "Come on, we got a go in." sam said as Y/n took his hand he lifted her "Is there a crew few or something?" Y/n asked as she brushed her butt off due to grass.
"No, not really, only in the morning. But we have to eat, and then the group will probably go to hang out in the attic later."Sam said and y/n nodded "Okay." Sam walked in front of Y/n as the went to the main building. sam opened the door for y/n "What a gentleman." Y/n Joked and walked through, the door closed and locked. Y/n turned to sam "So where is the cafe?" Sam pointed down the hall "Down there, Its not a hard building to find yourself around. It's just a matter of knowing which door is the right one."  Y/n nodded and followed sam.
Sam and Y/n entered the Cafeteria, Y/n saw Danielle and Rahne and walked towards them and sat down. Sam going to a random table in the room.
Y/n POV
I and Sam entered the Cafeteria, I saw Rahne and Danielle and Went to there table. I Waved and sat down"Hey! How are you guys." I asked as I sat down, the two girls smiled "Were fine, you?" Rahne responded with a smile, Dani nodded and smiled Taking a small bite of food.
"I'm fine, first full day here so..." I shrugged my shoulders, Danielle raised her brow "why did Reyes need you and sam  group?" Dani asked, I smiled and sighed "Apparently, I'm more then what her higher-ups though. So, Reyes asked sam to be the 'watcher' of me. It's my last chance or I guess I get sent somewhere else?" I explained to Dani "So You and Sam basically have to hang out all day, Just to make sure you don't get in trouble?" Dani asked and I nodded.
We talked some more about each other's day/ life before coming here while the two girls ate, I had gotten up and grabbed an apple "Are you going to the attic tonight?" Rahne asked and I raised a brow "I guess, I mean why not." I responded and Dani smiled "Oh your in for a surprise." I rolled my eyes and laughed "I bet, It can't be that bad."
"So how you liking Sam?" Rahne asked I shrugged "He's nice, I mean he's a good boy. And I'm not good, I'm trouble so." I started glancing over at Sam who was talking Roberto. Rahen chuckled "A Trouble maker paired with a good guy. What could go wrong?" Dani smirked at y/n " Very little, actually. I and he literally sat on the hill for like 30 minutes in silence." I laughed and so did Dani.
3rd person
A few minuted pass, Dani And Rahne had returned their trays and y/n had thrown away the apple "You wanna come to the common room with us until we all go to the attic?" Rahne asked as they returned,  Y/n nodded "Yeah sure." Y/n stood up and went to walk out with the 2 girls "Wait hold up, Never mind ill meet you there." Y/n said and stopped waving to the girls and walked over to sam.
"What you doing?" Y/n  said as she sat down at the table sam was at reading a book, sam looked up "Waiting for you. You done?" He asked marking and closing his book, Y/n nodded "Yeah, wanna go to the common room?" Y/n said as she stood up pointing to the door, Sam nodded "Okay, Come on." Sam and Y/n left the Cafe, Roberto washing dishes in the room.
The two entered the small room, Y/n jumped over the couch next to Dani and Rahne "Hello!" Y/n laughed and the girls waved continuing to watch the movie. A few minutes passed and Roberto knocked on the door "Come on attic time."
Rahne and Dani stood up, and y/n turned off the tv standing up and walking out of the room with the group. Roberto and Illyana up front basically running. the group went to the staircase and went up, the room smelled like old wood and dust. Y/n waled up the stairs and saw a wooden chair with wheel, an old gurney, with a stool next to it, and another table in the middle and on the side.
Illyana Walked tot eh back of the room pulling out an old briefcase, and opened it up. Y/n saw what it was "Oh, a lie detector test. wonderful." y/n said as she poked sams arm, Sam shrugged and sat on the stool next to Y/n who was on the table. Dani sat next to Y/n and Rahne sat next to the test.
"Whos going first?" Sam asked and Illyana smirked "Roberto?"Roberto got in the chair and Rahne hooked him up. After he got asked his question he got out and sam jumped in the chair Rahne hooking him up and such "Whos gonna ask?" Dani asked, Illyana spoke up "What's up with you and Y/n?" Y/n looked at the blonde and then at sam.
"Nothing, why?" Sam responded Rahne nodded "He's telling the truth." Rahne said to Illyana "Then why were you with her all day?" Y/n laughed at Illyana's question, Illyana faced her "What are you a stalker?" Y/n laughed at her, Illyana looked at sam "So..." Sam looked at y/n and cracked his knuckles "I was assigned to supervisor her. That's it." Rahne looked at the graph "Truth." Illyana nodded and looked at y/n "Your turn, new girl get in the chair."
Y/n shook her head and waited for Sam to get out before sitting in it and Rahne hooked her up "Why are you here?"Illyana smirked moving the light into Y/n face, y/n flinched before answering "I drove a bunch of people insane, and controlled them like puppets to kill each other." Y/n sated in an  emotionless voice "They killed each other slow and bloody, while voices in their heads drove them deeper and deeper into the craziness." Y/n said as she looked at Illyana.
The line on the board was straight "Shes telling the truth." Rahne muttered out, Illyana looked at the girl "And why is sam assigned to watch you? You to crazy to be alone?" Illyana said the last part in a high pitch voice,  Y/n chuckled "Yeah, pretty much. Reyes Higher Ups said ' I am too much then they can handle.' So yeah your right, I am too crazy to be alone. That and I threatened Reyes the other day." she said with a smile, the room went silent.  all that was heard was the lie director writing the line on the screen.
Y/n pulled the wires and stuff off of her and got out of the chair "I'm going." she said and walked down the stairs sam got off of the stool and signed "Good job." he faked smiles and followed the Y/n.
Y/n ran down the stairs and opened the door with a slam, tears were building up and she really just wanted to break something. She speed-walked down the concrete brick wall, Sam opened the door and y/n was halfway down the hall "Y/n!" he yelled but not too loud, Y/n didn't stop but ran into the bathroom and locked the deadbolt on the door.
3rd Person(bathroom)
Y/n ran into the bathroom and locked the deadbolt on the door, the tears that had built up started to fall. Y/n fell down the cold cinderblock wall, Flashbacks of the incident purged her mind and they would stop. Y/n put my head and my knees and hoped it would stop, hitting the wall once in a while when they got bad.
A knock echoed through the room "Y/n?" a person from outside answered, Sam. Of course. she didn't move, fearing the people would be in the room with her, Sam knocked again "Y/n, open the door. You're fine." sam voice was muffled slightly. Y/N shakily stood up and unlocked the door she stepped back so sam could get in. Tears still falling and her breathing is ridged with the scenes playing in her head.
Sam slowly pushed open the door closing it behind him, Sam faced Y/n whos hands were covering her eyes, "Y/n, hey you're fine. Okay, it was an accident."  Sam said trying to help the girl but not really knowing what to do. Y/n latched on to sam and cried harder, Sam hugged her with his right arm his left one was still up against his torso. Sam slowly bent down leading the two to the floor, sam pulled y/n into his lap as he sat up against the metal door.
Sam rubbed Y/n back slowly trying to calm her down "Tell me whats going on, y/n." Sam said in a quiet voice and the girl cried, she choaked "They're killing each other and screaming, there's blood everywhere. I don't-" she stopped talking covering her ears "What are you hearing y/n? talk to me." Sam stated holding her a little tighter "Just so many voices, ones from the men and ones from my power. It just won't stop sam." she cried hitting her head lighting with her palm.
Sam grabbed her hand and pulled it to her side so she couldn't "Hey, listen to me ok?" Sam asked the girl rubbing small circles into her hand, she nodded "They aren't here. Its just flashbacks of the incident. Your gonna be okay." He told Y/n, as she calmed down a little bit.
This went on for a few minutes before y/n crying had stopped. Sam rocked side to side a little bit until he heard no more crying, Y/n wiped her eyes and Sam gave her a tissue from his jacket, Y/n chuckled and cleaned herself up "Thank you." Y/n muttered in a tired voice getting out of his lap and leaning up against the wall next to him.
"You're welcome, you good now? You want me to carry you to your room?" Sam asked looking at the puffy eye girl, she shook her head "No, it's fine." she covered her mouth and coughed lightly. She brought her knees up to her chest " you good?" Sam asked rubbing her back "I will be If this breakdown didn't alert Reyes." she chuckled and look at sam and smiled, sam chuckled "I think you're good.  the only thing in the bathroom is probably a microphone." the two laughed, and Y/n shook her head  "Honestly with the number of cameras in this place probably." Y/n drifted off in thought, sam looked at her "What are you thinking?" Sam asked with a little fear in his voice, Y/n busted out laughing "With the number of cameras and microphones here in this building. The amount of security guards that have probably caught people doing the deed is ... Oh my god." Sam walked Y/ns calf with his right hand lightly and y/n stuck her hands up "I'm just saying... don't get you jockeys in a knot." Y/n laughed and Sam dragged his hand down his face shaking his head.
Y/n laughing echoed throughout the room, soon Sam joined in. the room echoed with the twos laughing. A few moments later they topped and y/n chuckled "I mean... We could test that microphone theory..." Y/n drifted off in thought with a wink, Sam shook his head "What?" Y/n looked at him, Sam's mouth widened at the realization and y/n wheezed " Oh my, y/n."  she laughed harder and Sam tried to comprehend what I happening.
Sam signed And looked at y/n "Not now, oh my god." Y/n stopped laughing and shrugged "I mean, you won't know until it's proven or not." Y/n smirked at Sam, he shook his head You are just, too much."
"So, you want to? or..." Y/n joked Sam laughed "one day sure, now? no." Y/n shook her head, and grabbed some right hand with her left hand and looked at him "I'll hold it to you, Guthrie." Sam shook his head and yanked Y/n hand towards him. Putting his arm around her shoulder "I bet you will."
An Imposter’s Heart
Relationships: Anxceit (Platonic), everyone else is just friendships
Summary: Quarantine sucks, especially if you're a chronically ill streamer and let's player. But it's nice to have friends and partners there to support you all the way.
And to accuse of murder.
AO3
"Is this your card?" Janus smirks when he holds up an eight of hearts, his audience clearly freaking out when it inevitably becomes clear that it is in fact their card. “I thought so, goodbye.” He clicks the button that takes him to the next participant.
“Hello,” he says, tipping his hat. While it has become difficult in getting gigs booked when he’s an amatuer magician (he’s not so much amatuer but young) becoming a MeTuber actually has become a much more entertaining way of living his dream and fucking over other people’s minds with illusions.
It’s much more fun, and much more lucrative.
“You’re that— that magician snake guy. Uhh, Deceit, right?” the participant says, clearly recognizing him. “I recognize you because of your whole—” a hand waves in front, gesturing towards a cheek.
Janus has never been one to shy away from his scars or his vitiligo, embracing them as his aesthetic and as much of his character as he can. And Virgil says it reminds him of scales and he definitely plays that up with makeup, adding to the whole snake character.
Janus nods in the affirmative, “I’m just here wondering if you can guess how I do this card trick. Would you like to guess?”
“Yeah! My grandpa was a magician and really liked to do card tricks. Maybe I can guess it!” they say eagerly.
Janus chuckles, flipping a card back and forth with his fingers. He doubts it. This trick he came up with all on his own. “Wonderful,” he murmurs. He singularly flips one card between two hands, forming a diamond with his thumb. He does it a few times, making sure that his participant sees the card appear and reappear a few times.
“Oh! I know how you do that. You— you take the card and put it between your fingers on your other hand behind your palm—”
“Really?” Janus says, doing it again. He looks down at his hands, feigning looking them over, spreading his fingers wide and then turning his hands back and forth to show that no card rested behind his fingers. “How do you do that?” he scratches his head, biting down a smile when his participant gawks at him.
“No, really, how do you do that?” Janus says with a faux sincere smile.
“I cannot,” his participant says, ducking their head and logging off to show the loading screen.
He chuckles, logging off of Omagle. Turning towards his camera, he smiles mysteriously. “Thank you for watching, I hope to see you on the morrow.” With a flirtatious wave, Janus turns off his camera.
With a sigh, he slumps back into his chair, groaning at yet another video he has to edit soon if he wants to make his weekly update. Being a MeTuber, as fun as it seems and is at times, is utterly exhausting. Not to mention what his roommate and partner deals with on a constant basis.
While he has gotten a bit of a subscriber jump ever since he played a few games of Amidst Us with the Sanders Shows gang, he won’t even begin to explain the hoops and valleys that his roommate went through to get such a jump.
Virgil, or as called by his online persona Corpse Emo, has gotten a 3 million subscriber jump ever since the normies as Janus liked to call them got addicted to his deep and soothing voice. Generally anxious, Virgil had freaked out. A Lot.
But Virgil loves being a MeTuber, Janus knows. He loves reading scary stories and making conspiracy theories about cryptids and other spooky things. But Janus also knows that Virgil gets freaked out by large numbers and performing if he doesn’t have everything handled.
Which is why he’s a faceless MeTuber and just a deep, soothing voice that people love to listen to. Something that Virgil is able to handle and control, to an extent. He obviously can’t help the fact that he has an incredibly recognizable voice or hair or hands.
So he compensates by being the main source of income and stays home while Janus goes out and gets the groceries and food. The little shit is lucky that Janus cares for him.
He hears the door to Virgil’s recording room open, and he blinks lazily. Groaning, he pulls himself up and stretches on his way out, only wearing half his usual attire and layers. With a scratch to his cheek, he leaves to meet Virgil out in the hallway.
“Gamer bladder?” Janus asks dryly when he sees Virgil zip through to the bathroom. He looks much too freaked to truly be in need of the restroom, eye bags darker than usual, so Janus assumes that Virgil needs to de-stress and take a moment to himself. The needs of the people too great and demanding. Janus can sympathize, fans can be the absolute worst sometimes.
Virgil flips him off, closing the door with a sharp thud. “Go entertain my chat,” Virgil’s words come out muffled behind the door, “they keep asking when Snake-Eyed Deceit is coming back on to play. It’s so fucking annoying.”
Janus would believe the indignation if Virgil doesn’t sound so fond. “You know I’m not much of a gamer, Virge,” Janus reminds him patiently.
“Just talk to them,” Virgil mutters, and Janus imagines Virgil curling into their bathtub with his hoodie drawn tight around him, lights turned off to complete the room. “Play a game if I take too long. It’s proximity anyway.”
Janus raps on the door lightly, “Just remember to drink some water. Did you take your meds?”
“Yes, mom,” Virgil rasps out, voice scratchy. “Fuck off.”
With a sigh, Janus raps an affirmative on the wood door and meanders his way down to Virgil’s recording room. He taps out a few greetings in chat, and then moves Virgil’s character blob in game.
“Emo, you’re back!” one of Virgil’s streamer friends cheers, doing a little wiggle in game.
“Not exactly,” Janus says into the mic lowly. A glance down at the chat shows them exploding in greetings to him with which he responds back politely. Doesn’t hurt to try and get new followers.
“Oh, it’s the Snake guy,” another says, and this voice Janus knows all too well.
“Hello to you, too, Roman,” Janus purrs. “Or should I call you Valkyrome? What a particularly creative name. Combining mythologies. Tell me, did you want to be a Valkyrie as a child.”
Roman puffs up, voice flustered, “Perhaps, they are one of the greatest warriors in Norse myths.”
“Oh, yes, I’m sure,” Janus says. He moves into the customization section of the game, changing from Virgil’s signature black and cat ears to yellow and a top hat. He keeps the name however, too lazy to change that. “How is everyone? It’s been a while since I’ve talked to you all. Yes, hello to you as well, chat.”
“Salutations, Snake,” Logic or Logan says monotonously in greeting. “I’m doing well.”
“HI, JAN!” Cupcake Harts, otherwise known as Patton Hart, cheers. Janus can’t help but twitch at the exorbitant cheerfulness, grating on his nerves a bit. Nothing against Patton, but the relentless sunshine can burn just a tad overwhelming sometimes.
Nevertheless, fondness tugs at his heart, “Hello again, Cupcake.”
“Is Corpse okay?” he asks, concern lacing every word. “He didn’t sound so lively last round. Is the kiddo good?”
“The Emo will be alright, but he gave me permission to play a few rounds as his little character for a bit if that would be alright.”
“Of course!” Patton says happily. “We don’t mind, do we?” Everyone else starts to overlap with words of reassurance at that, and Janus smiles. If anything, Janus is glad that Virgil was able to make friends this year. It has boosted the man’s confidence much more than it had been even if there is still some of that self-consciousness and anxiety that lingers.
“Alright, let’s start.” Logan cuts through the cacophony and the game counts down from five to begin.
---
“CUPCAKE WAS FAKING TASKS!” Roman screams when the meeting is called up, repeating it as much as he can. He clicks to vote instantly, not letting Patton explain.
Janus snickers at that, knowing for a fact that he was the imposter along with Remy.
“Roman, kiddo, do you really think that I would fake tasks with so many people in the room? I mean I could be the imposter, but I was alone so many times with Jodie.”
“He was,” Jodie confirms, “I don’t think that Cupcake is the imposter, he could’ve killed me so many times in specimen.”
“No, no Jodie, I mean I could be the imposter but that doesn’t mean that I couldn’t marinate you. I could just be playing a long game.”
“Ugh, he’s doing that double speak again,” Roman groans. “Cupcake, are you the imposter or not?”
“No, but I mean I could be,” Patton says with a mischievous tone that made Janus roll his eyes.
Janus skips his vote quickly, “Let’s just skip, there’s only one person dead.”
A murmur of agreement follows Janus’ declaration.
“Let me postulate this, but I think that the imposters are Deceit and Sleep.”
“How dare you—?” Remy immediately starts in on Logan, false offense filling up his words and making him much louder. Incessant clicking from their keyboard as rage fills their heart. “I will have you know that I was nowhere near the kill. You know what, I think it’s Specs, actually, he keeps framing me.
“Well, let’s settle down now,” Emile, otherwise known as Dr. Stitch, tries to intervene. “It’s only the first round of the game after all.”
“Uh, no can do, doc, not when my integrity is on the line.”
“What integrity,” Virgil mutters, and Janus whirled around in Virgil’s desk chair to see him leaning on the frame of the door.
“Is that Emo??” Patton squeals happily, “Hi! Are you taking over for Deceit? The game’s just started.”
Virgil shakes his head even though the only ones who can see are himself and Janus, his thick purple-brown curls falling in front of his brown eyes, “Nah, let Dee have a turn murdering everyone, I know he enjoys it.”
“Liess and slander,” Janus hisses, purposefully elongating his ‘s’ to make him seem more snake like.
“Does that mean Dee’s an imposter!?!” Roman screams as the meeting panel falls away and the little characters start running around crazily.
“I’m not the imposter, I’m not the imposter,” Janus lies reassuringly, shooting a dark glare at Virgil behind him as the taller one stifles his giggles, hiding the amusement in his eyes behind his hair.
He settles into Janus’ lap, completely obscuring the screen and his view of the game. “Emo, please let me play the game.”
“Hmm,” Virgil hums, tucking his head underneath Janus’ chin, a feat in and of itself given the height difference, “no, I’m comfortable. I’ll just sit here and talk to chat.”
With a sigh, Janus continues the arduous task of running around in the game with the much difficult challenge of having an emo in his lap. Virgil, for his part, looks very content and Janus can’t help but run his fingers through curly purple-brown hair.
“Hello, Roman.”
Roman yelps, “Who said that? How can you see me?” The lights in the game have been turned off and have been for a while, and Janus is taking advantage of the fact that Roman has been left in the far left hand corner of the map where people rarely go.
“Oh, Roman, Roman, Roman,” Janus says, tongue curling on his name with a knife. Roman screams, protesting and shouting for Janus not to do it. “Sorry about that, Ro,” Janus says with a manic giggle as he slices through Roman’s character.
“Big yikes,” Virgil murmurs. “No, chat, I’m not gonna do that, stop suggesting it. Anyway, yeah, I’m gonna be having some major collabs soon with some artists and I have so many cool projects on the way. Thank you guys so much for everything. We wouldn’t have gotten this far without you.”
“Aww, is that you, Emo? Are you talking to chat while Deceit plays?” Leslie pipes up, running close and in circles around Janus’ little blob character.
“Yup,” Virgil pops the last letter, “and guess what?”
“What?” Leslie asks just as Janus’ kill cooldown hit zero.
Janus clicks kill and Leslie screams in protest, her outrage cutting off when the body flops down onto the map. Virgil snorts out a laugh, cackling as Janus smiles indulgently, running around crazily on the map.
A new meeting is called up, this time two people have been killed, clearly shown on screen as having died: Roman and Leslie.
“Guys, guys, guys. I think Remy is the imposter,” Patton is saying. He’s the one who reported Leslie’s body“I’m pretty sure I saw him vent in electrical.”
“Excuse me, Kingdom Hearts!” Remy interrupts rudely. “I wasn’t even in electrical this round. You should get your prescription checked.”
“We needn’t vote here,” Logan interjects sagely. “We are, after all, on seven. But, need I remind you that Remy has been suspicious two rounds now and this time two bodies have been killed. I believe it would be wise to vote him off.”
“Uh uh, glasses here. I know you’re Mr. Big Brain and everything, but I am telling you that it ain’t me,” Remy takes a large sip of whatever drink he has on hand to emphasize his point.
With almost agreed silence, everyone votes and it’s an almost unanimous decision to vote off Remy, causing him to squawk.
“Oh no, you guys really voted for him? You guys voted him off?” Patton is saying as Remy starts screaming curse words and regret.
“What do you mean? You’re the one who said that you caught him venting—”
Janus starts to walk off, the conversation dying out the further he went. He walks to a secluded side of the map, making sure that no one can see as he waits for the cooldown.
“Think you can pull it off?” Virgil asks.
“Without a doubt,” Janus responds.
“What are you guys talking about?” Jodie walks up, suspicion in her question.
“Oh nothing,” Virgil starts, “except this—” and Janus clicks to kill.
Virgil starts talking to both chat and the other players as Janus starts his murder spree quietly. The two of them work as partners, Virgil talking and distracting the players as Janus offs them one by one.
Janus accidentally kills a person in front of someone else, but luckily he didn’t seem to see. “Okay, so I think this was Dragon,” Jace is saying.
Dragon immediately protests, “What do you mean? Where’s the body?”
“Emo, you just walked into admin, right? Did you see Dragon run out?” Jace asks.
“Um, maybe, I think so, yeah?” Virgil says, playing dumb.
“Then it’s Dragon. They were the one to kill, I saw them run out of admin just as the body flopped. Emo, back me up here.”
“Wait, what? I wasn’t even near—”
“AND they were sus last round, so.”
Quite easily, Dragon is voted off, but the game continues.
“I don’t get it, I thought it was Dragon and Sleep,” Jace says.
“Unless it was a self-report,” Logan posits. “You could’ve been caught by Dragon or Emo and you just reported to throw suspicion off yourself.”
Janus called up the meeting button, and Virgil got ready to speak, “Well, we could always 50/50 it. One of them has to be the imposter, right? We’re sure we got out one of them earlier with Remy and if it wasn’t Dragon, then it has to be Jace.”
“No, listen, Emo, I am begging you. I am on my knees, literally in real life right now, don’t vote for me, I am innocent. Please, I’m literally on my knees right now! It’s not me!!”
“Patton, I’m trusting you here,” Logan says. “Do you really think it’s Jace and not Emo?”
“Emo wouldn’t do that to us,” Patton says, though a bit unsurely, “and here’s the thing if Emo’s the imposter then he’ll win and get his video, but if he’s not then we win as crewmate. Either way, it’s a win-win situation!”
“What? Guys! That’s not how this works,” Jace pleads. “Please, it’s not me! I’m serious.”
But too late, the votes come in and Jace is voted out, his character yeeted out into space. And the game continues.
Logan screams in realization, “Patton, I trusted you! It’s Emo, it’s Emo. Oh my goodness. Patton, run! Run!”
“Logan, I have been waiting for this moment my entire life—” Virgil says manically as Logan starts to lose it, running around and screaming at Patton that he trusted Patton and that they voted off the wrong person.
Virgil calls a sabotage and starts to really race after Logan.
“Logan, I was right!” Patton says, slowly trailing after them just to keep up with the conversation. “That means Emo does get to have his video. And I get to be in it! Either way, it’s a win!”
Janus loses it, laughing just as hard as everyone else when Virgil finally manages to click the kill button, the victory screen loading up just as quickly as everyone’s voices come back loud and cheery.
“Good game, everybody—”
“Emo, that was hilarious—”
“Patton, I trusted you—”
“YOU GUYS VOTED ME OUT???—”
Virgil smiles up at Janus from his perch on Janus’ lap, contentment swimming in those brown eyes. Janus is helpless to smile back, even if he’s a bit overwhelmed by the noises. He nuzzles the top of Virgil’s head, burying his face in dark purple-brown curls.
“That was an amazing game, oh my gosh—”
Virgil buries himself into Janus’ warm body, a catlike grin stretching across his face. “Good job, Jan,” he whispers, making sure that chat doesn’t hear the name.
“I think you should be getting that congratulations, little Emo nerd,” Janus says dryly. “You got the final kill of the game after all.”
“Hey, Emo and Dee cheated! They worked together—!”
“We were using one character, jackass! It’s not our fault you guys didn’t think it was us!” Virgil yells back in retaliation, laughter edging on his words. More protests and compliments and whatnot continued as the gamers started arguing over each other again.
Warmth wraps around Janus like a warm hug and he wraps his own arms around Virgil as he continues heckling and joking around with friends, a new game already started. Virgil squirms in his hold to sit in his lap properly so that Virgil’s back is to Janus’ chest, moving to get comfortable.
“Alright, we won’t play together again—” Virgil is saying. Janus just holds Virgil in his lap tightly, contentment curling around him and settling into his stomach like a warm meal.
Sometimes life sucks, giving you chronic illness or vitiligo and burn scars. But sometimes life doesn’t suck so much when you have friends by your side and laughter surrounding you.
- janus is a magician. he has been since he was nine. and recently, things have been changing... its up to him and several others to fix whats gone wrong
Chapter 1- it was a stormy day
there were once skies filled with wonderful things. Birds, bugs, planes and clouds. the earth had people walking the streets getting to work. Some would ride bikes and others drive via car, bus or taxi. the planet filled with beautiful stones and flourished green everywhere.
Now things were changing. Ever since the lunar eclipse almost 100 years ago now. Things changed. the eclipse lasted for an entire day, and when it had stopped… two suns were in the sky. One shining bright and the other barely duller.
The people of the planet changed. Some could transform into wild animals; others couldn’t walk in the light. Some could manipulate the elements with spells. very few people had changed however. Most people stayed the same. And that meant the fear of the unknown would resurface. Those who had changed learned to adapt to the less forgiving.
Some would band together and try and find a place to fit in. some did, others couldn’t. starving of hunger or dying from the harsh winters.
I was one of the less fortunate. After I had turned 18 id been kicked out of my home with sunny by my side. sunny was my familiar. Looking like a boa constrictor but almost ghostly. You could see through her yellow shinny body. But her black eyes could pierce through your own skin.
Right now, she was wrapped around me like a thick warm scarf. Trying her best to provide me some warmth as the rain thundered down onto the ground. I was already soaked to the bone and an icy feeling had already set into my bones.
I looked around the streets, vision being blurred by the rain that poured relentlessly.
I pushed myself of the ground where I sat. there was no place open for me to sit in. and if there was, they didn’t take too kindly to magicians. that’s what I hated about coming back here. but there wasn’t anywhere else to travel to.
I grumbled as my hood fell down. Exposing my already wet hair to the rain. At least with it up I could contain some warmth. I didn’t bother to put it back up. there was no point in doing so.
I let out a huff. My feet made barely any noise as I made my way down the street. If there was one place, I could go it was the train station. But even then, I was cutting it close.
A loud bark cut me out of my thoughts as I felt something grab the hood of my jacket and tug me backwards as a car raced in front of my vision.
Whatever was holding onto me let go and I swivelled on my heel to face it. my eyes locked onto a black dog. It stood up to my height. Its glowing indigo eyes alerted me to the fact it wasn’t human. it glanced to my neck and looked curiously at my familiar.
“thanksss,” sunny hissed to the dog who barked back in response.
It nodded to me and soon a bright blue light swarmed where it stood. Shifting to the form of a human. A tall one at that. “sorry for the scare,” they said.
He wore a black suit. A blue stripped tie matched his animal’s eyes. a black umbrella was raised in the air, protecting him from the rain. A small part of me was jealous. Another part slightly ready to turn tail and run.
“come, we should get out of the rain, I have a feeling it won’t let up any time soon,” he said as he held out a hand. sunny turned her head to look at me and gave a small nod. Well if she could trust him. So could I.
I took his hand and was pulled under the umbrella. It wasn’t much. but it was nice to not have rain pouring over me. we walked silently next to each other. Not saying a single word. I hunched myself over. My overgrown hair covering the left side of my face. something I was thankful he couldn’t see.
“so,” he said, “may I ask for your name?” “Janus, and you?” “Logan berry. It’s a pleasure Janus,” he said loudly, trying to talk over the rai.
We turned a corner. I chuckled as I realised the school I’d gone to so long ago was still around. It was by no means small. It stood proudly in the storm. A small part of me felt my spine shiver. As if something from inside was looking into my soul.
Then before I knew it was out of vision.
 It was around ten minuets later that we arrived to a very posh looking set of apartments. Definitely not new. I recognised them.
Soon we were inside one. A deep red door with the numbers 24 plastered on neatly. Logan opened the door and ushered me inside. It was a lot different than I had imagined. The entrance hall had several doors lined up on either side. A couple were open.
“hey Logan its good to-“ a voice called. the figure at the end of the hall stood stunned upon seeing me, his eyes going wide upon seeing sunny. “oh my, Logan can you grab a towel for the poor soul?” he said.
Logan gave a sharp nod before patting my arm as if saying ‘good luck’. I let a weak smile on my face as I made my way forwards as he ushered me further in. warmth seeped into my bones. Something I had been very thankful for. Almost relaxing as it hit my skin. sunny let out a content hiss as well. I’m not really sure if it was because she was warm or if it was because she knew I was. a mini mother snake is what she was… and I was perfectly fine with that.
“my names Patton, you’re more than welcome to stay here to wait out the storm he said as he ruffled my wet hair. he let out a chuckle, making his way out of view.
Thankfully Logan chose that moment to walk in. a towel in hand and some other things. “I brought you a change of clothes, I have a feeling those cant be very comfortable nor hygienic right now,” he said, “the bathroom is down the hall. Second door to the right.
I stood there stunned. My mind seemingly frozen. “I think you broke my human,” sunny hissed over to Logan as she looked at me with a smirk.
“I never asked for your name, my apologies,” Logan said as he rubbed the back of his neck. “sssummer, but my human callsss me sssunny,” she said.
I shook my head, snapping out of my thoughts, “are you certain? I don’t want to intrude,” I muttered. “it’s quite all right Janus. I know what its like being out there. To be honest you look like you need a place to stay for tonight. So, might as well get comfy.”
I nodded and made my way to the bathroom. so…Patton and Logan hu? Were they now my friends?
I’m not surprised at Logan knowing what its like to be on the streets for so long. He looked at least two years older than me. His skin was a pale white, black ebony hair seemed to contrast his skin. and sky-blue eyes that could melt the iciest of hearts.
A small flush of the cheeks was all it took for me to take the things he was holding and make my way into the hall. the bathroom hadn’t been hard to miss. Going in had made me chuckle. Several shelves on the walls held rubber ducks. Multi coloured and wearing clothing of famous figures.
I couldn’t resist the smile that slipped onto my face.
 I was out of the room within five minutes. My hair was still slightly damp, but at least not dripping onto my back.  I pulled it back into a ponytail. But kept the left half covered by my hair.
I took a deep breath. All my damp clothes were shoved into my previously empty backpack. I picked it up and opened the door. Laughter rung in my ears. But it was familiar. One I hadn’t heard in years.
I could feel both mine and sunny’s excitement flooding us all at once. I made my way forwards and peaked my hear around the corner and let a grin cover my face.
“ah! There you are kiddo,” Patton said excitedly, grabbing my hand and dragging me in.
“holy shit,” moustache said, “dude, how the fuck are you still alive?!” the strangers in the room seemed startled for a couple seconds. “Remus, I haven’t an idea,” I said as we brought each other into a hug.
“seven fucking years Jannie. Seven fucking years,” he muttered as he held on tighter. “eh, could’ve been longer,” I looked over Remus’s shoulder to see his gobsmacked twin, “hello roman.”
“wait, you two know Janus?” Patton said stunned “hell yeah!” Remus exclaimed, “we went to the same school.”
“well anyways, have time to talk,” Patton said, “dinners in the oven and id like to get to know our guest,”
And that’s how the evening went. I answered their questions. Mainly the twins spitting them out rapid fire. there were plenty of laughs as I told them about everywhere id been. They had seemed genuinely surprised that I had been everywhere it seemed. With the limits of being in the uk, it was much easier to travel around than if I were to be in America. I would most likely still be roaming thinking about it.
 Time passed quicker than I’d realised. Soon the rain had stopped pouring from the sky. Instead replaced by an inky black sky. Clouds seemed to cover the sky as I looked out the window.
Sunny shimmered back into view from her invisible cloaking on the window ledge. “he hassn’t changed, hasss he?” she hissed out. “ha, indeed,” I muttered back, letting out a yawn.
There was a knock on the main door. I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard someone open the door and slam it behind themselves. “hey guys!” oh god… this wouldn’t go down well… “hey Virgil, we have a guest for today so be polite okay,” Patton called out.
When Virgil entered the Livingroom, basically commons for them. He froze as he saw me sitting by the window. “oh for fuck’s sake, why are you here?” he groaned. “trust me, ill be out of your hair soon enough Virgil. I promise,” I sighed, “I already feel like I’m intruding.”
He gave me a pat on the back and reached into his pocket, pulling out a small clip. he reached up to my face and pulled my hair out of my face, clipping it back with a spider hairclip. “you will have shitty vision if you keep covering that side you know?
I sighed, there was no point on letting my hair fall back into place. From memory Virgil seemed to have hair and bobby pins all over himself. There was no hiding from the onslaught of hair accessories.
“so… what you been doing these past three years then?” he asked nervously.
I chuckled and began to recount all I’d previously told the others. it had been a while since he had felt welcome anywhere. And here in this small pack of monsters and humans… he hadn’t felt at home ever more than now.
Chapter 4
Sunlight streamed into my room, the brightness making me groan in disgust and pain, rolling over to bury my face in my pillows, cursing tiredly into the soft, cushy material. The beeping of my comm from across the room drew another curse from my lips and I sat up, my hair falling into my face, and I practically crawled out of bed to get the damn thing.
“Hello?” I croaked, throat scratchy and dry.
“Oh, you’re alive. I thought you might have died in an alley somewhere considering you never showed up last night.”
Oh shit. I had forgotten that I was supposed to go to the Crypt last night after drinks with the gang. I closed my eyes and swallowed thickly, wincing at the annoyance in Grave’s voice.
“Sorry, I lost track of time last night. I don’t even remember getting home.” I muttered, taking my comm with me to the ‘fresher so I could get some water and pee.
“You better be here tonight, Baby Doll. If you’re not, we’re gonna have problems.” Grave growled before disconnecting the transmission. I was too hungover for this shit and just wanted to crawl back into bed, feeling like death, when I caught something written on my arm. It was Crosshairs’ private comm channel and I felt my cheeks warm up again as I looked it over with a slight smile. I needed to write it down on paper so I could shower and try to feel less… death like.
“Astrid, you up?” Koyi croaked, shuffling into the room, bleary eyed and still in her bodycon dress from last night.
“Morning.” I yawned and took a drink of nice, cold water, passing the cup over to her.
“Who dared call this early? Your comm woke me up from my place on the floor by your couch.” She groaned, going for my shower.
“Take a wild guess.” I grumbled, taking a seat on the nice, cool floor of my refresher. Koyi groaned angrily at the mention of Grave, pulling a face. “I was supposed to be at the Crypt last night and I got so caught up with Crosshair that I lost track of time. And, uh, apparently how we got home because I don’t remember that shit at all. But yeah, he’s mad that I didn’t show last night and said I better be there tonight.” I grumbled while laying down on the floor, pressing my cheek to the cold marble.
“Ugh I hate Grave so much.” Koyi groaned from my shower, the sound of the water hitting the shower door enough to make my head throb.
“Right now? So do I. And I hate the shower, the water hurts my head.” I closed my eyes, wishing my head would quit pounding.
“You’re a medic, don’t you have some banana bags on hand?”
I shot up far too quickly at her words: she was right, I actually did keep a stash of IV supplies here just in case of stuff like this. I just had to find the will and motivation to get up and actually get them. I felt like a dumbass for not remembering that sooner, that would be the perfect pick me up for this nightmarish hangover. With a moan of discomfort, I pushed myself up to my feet and trudged off to go get them, waiting for Koyi to hurry up and get out of the shower so I could hook her up.
Twenty minutes later, we were dressed and headed to this little pizza joint near Koyi’s tattoo parlor, dying for a good slice of pizza to help chase away the last dregs of this hangover that the banana bag didn’t touch. My stomach was growling loudly at the thought of getting something good to eat, making Koyi start laughing as we walked in through the doors.
“Oops. My bad. Guess I’m more hungry than I thought I was.” I laughed as well, wincing a little, mortified by just how loud it was. We snagged an open table in the back corner, our usual waiter already putting in our order for us.
“So are you gonna comm that cute guy you were with last night?” Koyi plucked a breadstick from the basket and took a bite.
“Crosshair? I dunno… I’m in a relationship. I shouldn’t have even flirted or danced with him last night.” I grabbed a breadstick as well, but pulled at it instead, chewing on my lip.
“He was really into you! I’m telling you, you need to break up with Grave and give this guy a shot! He’d treat you a lot better than Grave does.” Koyi pointed out smugly and took a sip of her drink.
“Oh please, he was just hoping for an easy hookup. Look, I know how you feel about Grave, and I’m sorry you guys don’t like each other, but that’s who I’m dating. End of story.” I snapped, finally growing tired of her nagging at me about Grave.
“Okay. Sorry. I won’t bring it up again.” Koyi gave me a wounded look, frowning deeply at my harshness.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean -”
“Whatever, you’re right. You’re gonna do what you’re gonna do, and you’re gonna date whoever you’re gonna date,” She got up and went over to Stetson, asking for her food to be brought over to her parlor. “I’ll see you later, Valkyrie. Let me know when you’ve pulled your head out of your ass.” She walked out in a huff and I sighed. She was really mad if she was calling me Valkyrie instead of Astrid.
“Everything okay with you and Koyi? I never see you guys fight, like ever.” Stetson asked, setting my order down and dropped into the empty seat across from me.
“Yeah, I guess.” I looked down at the pizza, not hungry anymore.
“Is it about Grave again? Cuz that’s the only time I see you guys ever get tense with each other.” He leaned forward, brows knit together slightly, worry on his face.
“Yeah. Yeah, it is. I know she’s concerned, I’m not trying to downplay that, it just gets old hearing it all the time when I’m home on leave. When I’m home, I don’t want to get a talking to about who I’m dating. I hear it from Ivar, who thinks Grave and I aren’t even together anymore and is constantly trying to set me up with guys, and Koyi, who makes jabs and other comments.” I forced myself to eat something so I wasn’t overly grumpy later when I went to the Crypt to see Grave. Stetson squeezed my shoulder kindly before getting up to run over Koyi’s order to her, leaving me in the main part of the parlor with my thoughts. Koyi was right, Grave wasn’t exactly boyfriend material; he never reciprocated when I told him I loved him, he would always change the subject or distract me with other things. And I swore he had something going on with the new girl, Candy, but I didn’t have any definitive proof and I trusted him, so maybe it was just me being jealous.
Ugh I should just… end things. Get it over with already. I sighed heavily, setting the half eaten slice of pizza down on my plate. This was just ridiculous, what was I doing with my life? Leading two different lives was utterly exhausting and I wasn’t sure I could keep up with it anymore, I was going to have to pick eventually and as much as I loved dancing, I would pick my boys in the 501st any day over being a dancer. I’d come to really love these guys dearly already and had been accepted into their little family.
I let out a soft grunt of annoyance when my comm lit up and hit the flashing button to answer it, trying not to sound annoyed when Fives and Hardcase’s voices immediately launched into talking about something about karaoke night.
“Okay, hold on, one at a time, I don’t speak gibberish.” I finally barked, gritting my teeth when a couple of the other customers shot me an irate look.
“It’s karaoke night at the 79’s tonight! Are you coming?” That was Hardcase speaking up.
“No? I have plans that I missed last night cuz I was too busy drinking with you lunatics. Besides, you know I don’t sing.” I lied through my teeth about the singing. I could sing like no one could believe but I got stage fright when it came down to it. Singing in front of people was one of my biggest nightmares.
“Oh come on Valks! Come join us!” Fives pleaded and I could just picture him pouting.
“Not tonight, okay? I’ve gotta roll. I’ll see you guys later.” I disconnected the comm and got up so I could head out to the Crypt. “Later Stets! Left your tip on the table.”
                                                           ~*~*~
  The Crypt was supposed to be like home, but walking in those doors, I sure didn’t feel like I was coming home. I felt as if I were walking into a tomb, the dark and dreary feeling weighing on my shoulders. Something wasn’t right, I could feel it in the pit of my stomach. Some of the other girls were sitting at the bar, pity flashing across their faces for a brief moment before looking away from me, focusing their attention anywhere else but on me as I walked past them. I could feel my stomach clench with nerves, my palms sweating as I slowly made my way to the room Grave and I would share while I was here on leave. Soft moans and the wet slap of skin on skin left me feeling ill as I reached out with a trembling hand to open the door, seeing Grave fucking the new girl. I didn’t make a sound, just shut the door and went to the dressing room, throwing my crap into a bag.
“Baby Doll?”
I didn’t even have to look back to know Daisy was hovering nearby, her face drawn and worried like it usually was when she was uneasy. “I’m fine Daisy. I already had a feeling something was going on, I was just trying to deny it. Good luck. I fucking quit.” I zipped my bag up and hitched it over my shoulder. My gut feeling was right, Koyi was right, Stetson and Ivar were right... and I was a fuckin’ dumb ass. “And you can tell that wastoid that I’m done.” I called to the other girls who were trying to act like they weren’t listening in over at the bar and walked out. I couldn’t fucking believe that I had gotten played like this. I mean, I could believe it, but at the same time, I was having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Tears burned in my eyes as I hopped into my speeder and headed back to my apartment to dump off this crap and so I could get ready for karaoke night after all.
“Koyi? You were right. I’m sorry. I caught him fucking the new girl, so I quit. I’m going home to change and then I’m heading to the 79’s for karaoke night cuz why the fuck not?” I breezed through my front door, locking it behind me and threw my bag of clothes from the Crypt across my living room, nailing the wall with a dull thud. He wanted to break my heart, then I was going to dress up and go have some fun tonight because I fucking earned it after putting up with so much these past few years.
Stupid son of a bitch. I hope his cock shrivels up and falls off. I stood there in my closet, staring hard at all of my clothes, trying to decide on an outfit. I wanted something easy to move in but still showed off every single curve I had. If Grave decided to show his face tonight, I was going to make sure he regretted ever using me and discarding me like trash. Now I just had to find the right outfit. Nothing was catching my eye so far, though. A flash of red drew my attention towards it and I smiled when I plucked the cute bright red mini dress off the rack and settled on that and a pair of strappy red heels to match. I grinned happily and quickly did my hair, giving myself some loose curls and studied myself closely. Everything looked perfect and I couldn’t wait to show off.
Perfect, I think I’m ready. I grabbed my leather jacket and took off, wanting to surprise Fives and the others since I’d said I had plans. Eyes followed me as I walked out of my apartment building and flagged a speeder down so I could get to the 79’s, smiling sweetly at the driver.
“Thanks for the lift doll.” I purred when we arrived, tipping him and blowing him a kiss.
“Damn, you’re not playing around tonight, huh?” Koyi was grinning widely as she practically skipped up to me.
“Nope, I’m definitely not playing around. I’m gonna have fun and I might even bring someone home with me tonight.” I chirped, smiling at some of the clones we passed, all of them whistling in appreciation. Koyi and I broke out into giggles as we entered the bar, weaving through clones and other civvies to get to the bar for drinks.
“Hey! Could we get four shots of Trandoshan tequila? Thanks!” I took the shots and passed two of them over to Koyi, toasting my best friend before downing them in rapid succession. “I think I’m gonna sign up to do karaoke tonight.” I glanced over at Koyi, reaching for the stylus so I could jot my name down, Koyi squealing with delight.
“You’re going to actually sing? You? In public! Oh I have to record this!” She was giddy at the thought and ordered us a couple more drinks so we could take them with us to find the 501st guys. Koyi spotted them first and tugged me with her as we weaved through the crowd, Fives and Echo immediately shutting up when they saw us.
“Holy -”
“Valkyrie?!” Jesse and Rex’s jaws dropped in shock, Cody smirking as he looked me up and down with interest. Two other clones I vaguely recognized nudged a couple other guys, nodding our way and I blew them a kiss, grinning.
“Hey guys. Plans fell through so I figured we’d join you.” I chirped, allowing Cody to pull me onto his lap, his arm warm around my waist. I draped an arm around his neck, toying with the hair at the nape of his neck with a playful smile tugging at my lips as he leaned back into my touch with a soft groan.
“And she’s gonna sing!” Koyi crowed, practically dancing in Echo’s lap. I rolled my eyes but smiled when the guys cheered excitedly. I’d always been teased for my humming when I worked, Kix always asking if they’d ever get to hear me actually sing, and tonight looked like it was gonna be the night.
“We’re allowed to record that, right? Cuz I am gonna wanna remember this night. Plus Kix is gonna be bummed he missed seeing it in person.” Fives joked with a loud laugh. As I opened my mouth to retort, my name was called to go up and sing my heart out. I slammed my drink back and got to my feet, my legs shaking as I made my way up there, hands trembling as I took hold of the mic. I swallowed thickly, forcing a smile onto my face as the music began and took a deep breath, trying to steady myself.
“Hey, hey I'll let you walk all over me, me. You know that I’m a little tease, tease, but I want it pretty please, please. You know, you know, you know I’m crazy. I just wanna be your baby. You can fuck me, you can play me. You can love me or you can hate me. Miss me, miss me, now you wanna kiss me,” I began to really get into the song, swaying my hips and dancing along to the beat. “Choke me, 'cause I said so. Stroke me, and feed my ego. I’ve been a bad girl, don’t you know? Come get it, now or never. I’ll let you do whatever. I’ll be your bad girl, here we go.  Miss me, miss me, now you wanna kiss me.” I had all eyes on me, people dancing along and cheering, Fives and the others the loudest of all my admirer’s. I could feel my cheeks heating up at the applause and focused my gaze on Rex, who was watching with an intensity that had my stomach clenching with desire. He took a sip of his drink, smirking just slightly, and leaned over to say something to Cody, who nodded in response, his eyes never leaving me.
“Baby, you know I want a little taste, taste. So let me take you all the way, way. You know you’ll never be the same, same. One night, you won’t forget the rest of your life, so come on over to the wild side. Buckle up, and baby, hold on tight. Miss me, miss me, now you wanna kiss me. We both know that you love me 'cause I'm so bad. Choke me, 'cause I said so. Stroke me, and feed my ego. I’ve been a bad girl, don’t you know? Come get it, now or never. I’ll let you do whatever. I’ll be your bad girl, here we go.  Miss me, miss me, now you wanna kiss me.” I was looking right at the two, putting on a show just for them. It was as if everyone else had faded from the room, I was so focused on Rex and Cody. “I've been a bad girl. I've been a bad girl. I'll be your bad girl. I'll be your bad girl. I've been a bad girl. I've been a bad girl. I'll be your bad girl. A fucking bad girl! Choke me, 'cause I said so. Stroke me, and feed my ego. I’ve been a bad girl, don’t you know? Come get it, now or never. I’ll let you do whatever. I’ll be your bad girl, here we go.”  The sound of applause brought me back into focus, realizing I’d finished the song. I quickly walked out of there, my heart pounding against my chest with adrenaline and glee.
“Hey! You killed it up there!” Koyi found me and dragged me back over to the group. “I recorded it. Sorry not sorry, you are amazing and should be heard by the world.”
“Of course you did. Could you not share it, please?” I grumbled, shooting her a look.
“Too late, she’s already sent it to us.” Fives cut in with a smug grin. “I’m gonna listen to this all the time. Seriously, how could you hide those pipes from the rest of us?”
“It’s not that big of a deal. Drop it already.” I groused, tossing a crumpled up napkin at him. “I’m gonna go get a drink.” With a muttered curse, I went to go to the bar when Rex dropped a hand on my shoulder.
“I’ll go with you. I could use a new drink myself.” He chimed in, moving his hand to my lower back, gently pushing me through the crowd towards the bar. “You really do have a nice voice. It’d be nice to hear it more often.”
“Thank you, Captain. I, uh, usually don’t sing in front of other people. I get nervous and then clam up. Generally I have to have a little liquid courage in my veins first.” I chuckled, taking a seat at the bar. “You and Commander Cody seemed rather… invested in the song. Did I spark some interest?” I teased him, half hoping that maybe I had caught their attention. I could get behind the idea of a threesome with Rex and Cody, it would certainly be quite the ride.
“Baby Doll, there you are!”
My back stiffened up at the sound of Grave’s voice behind me, his hands going to my shoulders and I jerked away from him, getting up and stepping beside Rex, putting as much distance between us as I could.
“We’re done, Grave. I don’t know why you’re here, but I don’t want anything to do with you.” I snapped, yanking my arm back when he reached for it.
“You heard my medic, leave her alone.” Rex got to his feet, setting his whiskey glass down. “She doesn’t owe you shit and you have no business harassing her, so step off. Now.” There was a growl to his voice that sent a jolt of white hot fire down the length of my back and into the pit of my stomach, pulsing down between my thighs.
“This doesn’t involve you, clone. This is between me and her.” Grave spat, not even looking at Rex as he spoke. “Baby Doll, c’mon, come back with me. I need you, babe.” He was pleading now, begging me to come back to the Crypt.
“No. I have nothing to say to you. I’m done, I’ve been done. Fuck off, Grave.” I slapped his hand aside, lip curling into a sneer.
“You stupid slut, should have known those rumors were true.” He snarled with venom dripping from his words. Next thing I knew, Rex was slamming a fist right into Grave’s mouth, sending him stumbling back into Cody, who had come up to see what was taking us so long. Cody immediately had Grave by the scruff of his shirt and tossed him aside with a snarl, glaring daggers at Grave.
“Hey, whoa, no! He’s not worth it!” I quickly stepped in, resting a hand on Cody and Rex’s biceps, not wanting them to start any fights. “Come on, let’s just go back to the others.” I pulled my lip between my teeth, looking back and forth between the commander and my captain anxiously.
“Come near her again and I’ll break your jaw.” Rex warned him before grabbing his whiskey and my hand, leading us back to where the others were. Koyi and Echo were nowhere to be found while the others continued to crack jokes and drink, Hardcase getting up to go sing while Fives and Jesse laughed about his enthusiasm, cheering their brother on. Rex pulled me into his lap, arms wrapping around my waist, holding me to him somewhat tightly and pressed his lips to the nape of my neck in a fleeting kiss.
“Where’d Koyi go?” I called over to Fives with a slightly puzzled look.
“Her place with Echo.”
“Oh. Oh! Oh. Damn, get it girl.” I shook my head, laughing when I realized what he meant. “Well, if that’s the case, I’m gonna head home, too. It’s been a long night and I have some better alcohol at home I want to get into. See you guys around.” I carefully detached myself from Rex’s lap, shooting him a smile. “Hey, no bar fights okay? Just leave Grave alone if you see him hanging around.”
“I’ll walk you home,” Cody offered quickly, getting to his feet with a nod to his guys. “I’d feel better knowing you got home safely just in case.”
“That’s sweet of you, thank you Commander.” I took his offered arm and bid farewell to everyone else.
“I’ll tag along. It’s on the way to the barracks and I’ve got some paperwork I should finish up.” Rex polished off his drink and fell in step with Cody and I, the two of them keeping an eye out for Grave as we left the bar.
“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas huh?” She said, barely able to keep her eyes open.
“It doesn’t have to? Where are you from? We could meet up again. I wish for happiness like this forever. You gave me the chance to be free, let loose.” Looking at him, she was unsure about what he meant by being free, but she didn’t have the time to question it. It wasn’t important.
“John, I have just started seeing someone back home, you know this. This was just a stupid one night stand. I drank too much.”
“We were both drunk. But you remembered everything right? Is your boyfriend as sexy as me though?” He winked at her, whilst flexing his pecs.
“Of course I remember! Some bits were blurry. But I remember. Don’t flatter yourself.” Standing up, he held her close to him- sharing one last lingering kiss.
“I hope our paths cross again Pocahontas.”
“Keep dreaming Prince Charming.” If only she knew.
“What’s your full name. I’ll find you on social media, we can keep in touch.” Quickly thinking of a surname, she knew they would never cross paths again.
“Marie Walker.”
*****
The night before
Everyone was on a high, ready to celebrate their friends twenty first birthday- deciding to go to Vegas they dread to think what mischief that they would get up to, but you’re only twenty one once.
Arriving at Caesar’s palace, they checked into their villa that they were sharing- the villa that nearly made them all bankrupt. Hoping to be successful with their gambling later on in the night, this would help them retrieve some of their money back.
“Okay, so we need fake names.” The friends all looked at each other confused as to why they would need a fake identity. “We are now known as; Marie, Mel, Kim, Elsie and Mitchell.”
“Okay, so I understand Elsie and Marie - family members names. I’m using my surname. But Mel and Kim?”
“Takin' chances, bold advance-e-es, Don't care if you think we're out of line.’ We sung Respectable at the karaoke bar the other night. Besides Mel and Kim were sisters like we are. We need fake names, in case there are any creeps or we get arrested or something.”
“Or married!” Mitchell said winking at the girls.
“Come on its my birthday! I need to get hammered!” Playing a few drinking games in the room, they were all instantly becoming gradually tipsy. Walking to the elevator, they all put their hands together- What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, they all reminded each other in unison.
*****
Leo wandered around the slot area, throwing money away as quickly as he was he may as well of flushed it down the toilet. Every time he won, he placed it back into the machine. It became busier as the night drew in, the playboy prince kept declining incoming calls from Bastien- knowing it would only be a matter of time before he would catch up to him. Leo was gradually becoming more intoxicated- people watching whilst leaning against a machine- his focus lingered on all the women around him.
Nice ass.
Nice tits.
Nice lips.
Blonde- no avoid blondes, especially if they are like Madeleine- my future wife. Eurghh.
She’s curvy, but still okay looking.
Too tall.
Too small.
Too drunk.
Too boring.
Bride to be- what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas though.
Too young.
Too old. Way too old- cougar though.
Leo shook his head, even considered giving himself into Bastien- that was until a group of people walked closer towards him. His eyes lingered on towards the brunette, the red dress that she was wearing flaunted all of her assets. Plucking up some courage- not that he needed it, he decided to walk over to the group of friends.
“Hello beautiful. Do you want a drink?” She looked at him, their eyes locking- before she focused her gaze to her drink before back to him.
“I’m good thanks. Save your dollars, it’s my birthday so I’m sure I could get a few drinks free.”
“Happy birthday!” He said enthusiastically, ignoring the fact that she had rejected his offer.
“Thanks. See ya.”
“Wait!” She looked at him, knowing he was probably just a ‘creep’- undeniably he was a handsome man but she wouldn’t admit that to anyone.
“Hey.... Marie.... we are going to head to the tables... you coming?” Kim shouted from a distance.
“Yeah, I’m coming. See ya around.” Pulling her closer towards him, he wanted to get to know the stranger.
“I’ll tag along, Marie.. beautiful name.” Shrugging her shoulders she released herself from his presence- she followed her friends- Leo soon became their shadow. Smirking at her, stealing glances every so often she shook her head- this awkward situation would soon disappear as the drinks flowed she believed.
“So you know my name, what’s yours?” She asked, to be polite- now knowing that he was like super glue- insisting on sticking with them.
“John Smith.” Rolling her eyes, she let out a slight giggle.
“I bet it is.”
“Are you calling me a liar?”
“Maybe? It’s just a generic human name that is used- like John Doe. I suppose that makes me Pocahontas then.”
“Well you can be my princess for tonight then?” Placing his arm around her waist, she felt his warm breath linger around her ear and neck.
“This isn’t some fairytale. This is Vegas baby. I’m celebrating my birthday with friends and you’re intruding.”
“Don’t you believe in fairytales?”
“No.”
“Ill tell you what, why don’t we both go over to the roulette table. If you win more I’ll leave you alone....”
“And if you win more?”
“Then you’re stuck with me all night.” Great. I don’t know how to play. It’s just fluke on the roulette. Right?
“Fine deal, I’ll let my friends know.”
Walking over to her friends, they knew exactly what was about to happen- all smirking at her then at the mysterious man.
“What?” Marie snapped at them.
“You’re going to ditch us... it’s written all over your face.”
“I need to win more on the roulette, he said he would leave us alone if I did.” Maybe she was being naive, or maybe he would genuinely leave them if she did win the bet- her friends all laughed in unison, the could already predict exactly how her birthday was going to end. It wasn’t going to end with them, like they originally planned.
“Of course he did. He isn’t leaving you at all- he’s providing you with ‘fuck me eyes’.... a certain man back home won’t be happy.”
“No he’s not- his flirting skills are atrocious. And regarding a certain man, we aren’t together officially yet. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But nothing is going to happen. I’ll ring you once I’ve got rid of him.”
*****
“Fuck!” Marie muttered to herself after an hour on the roulette table, knowing that she had now lost the bet- dramatically.
“So babe, I assume I won the bet then...” Sighing she knew this was a bad idea to begin with, now knowing that he would be acting all smug.
“You’d assume correct, stop smirking at me like that...”
“Like what? This?” He asked in a seductive tone of voice whilst placing his hands around her waist again. He continued smirking- her heart began fluttering, not knowing if it was due to the alcohol. Brushing a stray strand of her brunette hair behind her ear, she froze not knowing how to react- her breathing rapidly increased due to the handsome strangers touch. He leaned down claiming her lips taking the plunge. Wrapping her arms around his neck, one hand tangled through his hair as she pulled him closer- as if they were a magnet, attracted to each other immediately. His hands hovered at the sides of her tiny frame before gripping her hips, pulling them flush to him. Moaning into the kiss, she felt as if she was hypnotised- in some type of spell. In the back of her mind, she felt guilty as she had just started a relationship back home, but in this moment in time she felt lust and desire towards the stranger. Breaking the kiss, she looked at him feeling breathless- feeling his hardening length pressing on to her, she didn’t know what to expect for the rest of the night.
“You could carry on throwing your money down the drain, or there’s another option...”
“Oh... what would that be?”
“Ditch your friends and spend the night with me..” The angel on one shoulder was trying to convince her to not stray from her loyal friends, however the devil demanded that she gave in to temptation.
“What would you say if I ditch you instead?”
“That you’re a let down, I mean you’ve already kissed me... wouldn’t you like to experience the whole package?”
Guys I’m really sorry but have a good night, I’ll see you in the morning - please don’t respond. I’m fine. I’m okay. I’ll send an SOS if I need you. Love you all x
“Lead the way then John Smith... but....”
“But what?”
“I Erm... I’ve just sort of started seeing someone back home...” Grabbing her hand, he led her up to his room ignoring the information she had just provided him with- hoping that she wouldn’t back out due to this. In the elevator, they were alone- pressing the button, he then turned to her. Pushing her against the wall, his hands frantically roamed her body as he crashed his lips onto her- opening her mouth gasping for air he took the opportunity to place his tongue next to hers. Their tongues were dancing along with each other until the doors opened and other people entered, immediately letting go of her- he smirked at her- feeling frustrated as he would have carried on if they hadn’t been abruptly disturbed.
Opening the door, he welcomed her into his penthouse- her eyes widened at how a single man could afford this on his own.
“Help yourself to the mini bar, I’ll just get ready.” Nodding her head, she headed towards it- bending down scrutinising the options Leo became immediately distracted gawking at the view in front of him. Fuck she’s got a nice ass, why do I need to get ready? I’ve got a beautiful girl in my room. These thoughts kept roaming through his mind, usually he would open his bedroom door and immediately demand that for his date to get into bed, straight to business- he was known as the playboy prince after all.
“Hey, what did you choose to drink?” Turning to face him, she admired his toned muscled body and sparkly baby blues now that he had removed his shirt and glasses. “Erm... I’m ... undecided. Maybe you could help me?”
Walking over towards her, deep down he wanted her - not a drink. Caressing her cheek, she felt weak at the knees immediately. “Or we could decide to avoid the drink?” She barely whispered, into his ear. Leo’s hands gently roamed up and down her body, whilst placing gentle kisses on her bare skin that was on show- as she stood frozen hypnotised by his good looks. “You are beautiful, how about we take this over to the bed?” He asked confidently, knowing his charm had never failed him before. Gulping she agreed, carrying her over bridal style- he gently placed her onto the bed - feeling his erection against her immediately again as he hovered over her, she wanted him - there was no doubt about that. “I think you’re a bit overdressed Marie...”
“Maybe you could sort that out for me?” Standing her up at the edge of the bed, he unzipped her red dress- the material effortlessly fell to the ground, she was standing in front of him in her matching red lacy bra and thong which turned him on, not that he wasn’t already. Unclasping her bra, he cupped both breasts- before pushing her back on to the bed.
Marie arched her back, moaning quietly but loud enough for him to hear as his thumbs rubbed her nipples in gentle circles, whilst kissing her neck. His lips began to wander down from her neck, along her shoulders before taking one nipple into his mouth- flicking his tongue around it, before swapping to the other one. Once he had finished, his hands wanted to explore the rest of her body. Sliding down her petite body- reaching her inner thighs- he spread them open taking full control. Pushing her lace thong to the side- his fingers teased her at the entrance, even with a brief touch she was immediately damp. “So wet already baby. It must be my good looks.” He winked at her. “Of course it is, your ego could explode if you carry on talking like that.”
“Do you want me or not Marie? Because I could always back out if you carry on with this sarcasm...”
“Don’t you dare stop John, I’ve ditched my friends for you- so you better carry on....” Forcing a demanding kiss on to her lips, he tugged at her bottom lip with his teeth. Moving his thumb over her clit, she couldn’t contain her moans- these light touches soon changed as he plunged his fingers deep inside.
“You like that baby?” Ignoring him, she just nodded, removing his newly coated fingers- he licked them seductively in front of her, this gesture aroused her at once. Leo smirked knowing he was showing how to treat a girl with fantastic oral sex. Seeing her breathless already, he removed his fingers. Removing her lacy thong, he threw it- not really noticing which direction it landed in- kissing her inner thighs, he now replaced where his fingers previously were with his tongue instead.
“You taste so good.” He said before plunging his tongue deeper inside. “Fuck! Don’t stop please.” She screamed, as she dug her nails into his back leaving a slight mark. Removing his tongue, he placed his fingers there again giving her that bit more pleasure- smiling at her, her whole body was now trembling. Her fingers brushed over his chest, before arriving at the waistband of his jeans. Seeing the bulge- she bit her lip- their eyes focused on each other, showing his infamous smirk he stood up removing his jeans and boxers knowing that they were both thinking the same thing. Whilst he did this she sat up- watching him releasing his growing manhood. Fuck he’s going to break me in half with that. “Like what you see?” He asked noticing her gaze was down below, before giving him full eye contact. “I like what I see, but I’d prefer to touch and feel you...” Leo let out a sigh, as she wrapped her hand around his length- even though he loved her hand expertly stroking him, he didn’t know how much longer he would last. Licking her lips, she stroked his length, before taking it fully in her mouth.
“This feels amazing, but I believe you said you wanted to feel me as well...” Looking up at him fluttering her eyelashes, she did want him- but wanted to finish what she had started. Feeling his cock pulsate at every move- knowing she was pleasing him as he did her, she picked up her pace, before removing his cock. Laying her backwards he forcefully placed another passionate kiss on her lips. His firm muscled chest, was now pressed against her bare skin- separating her legs as if she was an expert gymnast, he thrust against her- teasing her at her wet entrance. Lining himself up, he didn’t think about the consequences- he was hoping that she was on contraception, as she didn’t stop him. Slowly pushing in, he heard her moan- pausing for a brief second allowing her walls to get used to him, he began with slow gentle thrusts. This slow yet steady pace soon turned powerful, every thrust hitting that specific spot. “Fuck.” She kept whimpering, was it worth ditching her friends- yes. In her mind this was the best sex she had received, but she wouldn’t admit that to the already confident stranger, if he asked she knew she would play it down. Her hands remained on his back, every thrust she would unknowingly scratch her nails deeper into his skin.
Arching her back, her legs felt like jelly- her whole body fluttered, hoping that this night would never end. Kissing her on the lips, he was ready to finish- not wanting to, he felt slightly embarrassed at how quickly this was occurring. Slowing his movements down, he gripped her hips tightly as he felt that sudden rush of semen, his warm seed soon exploded in her. Staying in that position, he rest his forehead against hers- sweat was now dripping from his forehead and down his body. Slipping his cock out of her, he gave one last thrust against her wet folds- the remainder of his cum was now mixed along with hers. Laying next to her, they were both breathless and remained silent, both fixating their eyes towards the ceiling. “Could your friends provide you with a fantastic birthday present like that?” He asked before turning to face her.
“Would be slightly weird if they could...” She laughed at him, before snuggling into his embrace still trying to catch their breath. “Four girls and one man- you never know... he could share you all.”
“I don’t think his girlfriend Lo- Kim would agree with Mitchell sharing us all...”
“Fair enough, so you’ve already technically cheated on your new boyfriend.... we could make the most of the night?” The cheeky grin that appeared on his face was too hard to ignore, not knowing if he was being sincere or just having a joke. Rolling onto to him, she straddled him- gripping on to her hips, she leaned down for another kiss- it was her new addiction- an addiction that she would never taste again. Why not? She thought. “I’ll take control this time.”
*****
Coming out of her trance, Maxwell noticed Amber wasn’t her usual self. Drake had left them with Leo to get some drinks.
“Ambs? What’s up?” Placing his hand around her, he knew her the best out of everyone- he could see she was worrying and over thinking.
“I’m Marie.” She responded looking out towards the horizon, not making eye contact with her brother but instead resting her head on his shoulder.
“Yeah I know you are, Amber Marie Smith-Beaumont. My baby sister.”
“No... I’m that Marie. Leo’s Marie. Leo’s Vegas one night stand. If Drake finds out, he’s gonna leave me.” Finally looking him, he believed she was pulling some practical joke- until he felt her take a long breath.
“What? Rewind... you went to Vegas... slept with Leo... neither of you have recognised each other?”
“I was twenty one, I’m sure I’ve got a few more wrinkles due to stress in those four years. He was wearing glasses, I was drunk. He was drunk. I remember it though. I went with Riley, Lola, Beth and Daniel. Lola insisted that we had fake names... he did a bet with me, then I ended up in his bed. Fuck.”
“Shit, you just need to sleep with Liam, Rashad, Neville, Connie and Godfrey- then you’ve done them all. Id say you’ve done a full house, but obviously it would be wrong if you slept with me and Bertrand. But it’s as close as a full house.” Cheekily grinning, he was having a joke until he felt her punch him in the shoulder.
“MAXWELL!”
“Sorry, Sorry.” Holding his hands up- he wished he had a white flag to surrender- he didn’t want a replay of what she did to Madeleines nose. Drake and Leo, joined the pair- Drake kissed Amber making her heart flutter instantly.
“Drake? Can I have a word in private?” Maxwell asked, seeing Drake become frustrated before eventually agreeing. I’ll be back soon beautiful. Leo laid next to Amber, admiring the beautiful view in front of them- remaining in silence, she knew she had to tell him the truth.
“So John Smith, had anymore Vegas flings?” Leo looked at her confused, before his eyes widened.
“Pocahontas?”
“Leo, please don’t tell Drake.”
“This is so fucking funny!” Hysterically laughing, she provided him with looks that could kill.
“It’s not funny Leo! I never thought I’d see you or should I say John, again.”
“No the whole situation isn’t funny, but you have to admit it was a good shag. The funny thing is you called yourself Marie Walker. Marie I assume after your mother. But now it’s funny because you used Walker as your surname. One of these days you could actually be a Walker.”
“How do you remember that?”
“I tried to find you, why did you use Walker? I thought that kiss you gave me in Lythikos was slightly familiar.”
“Because if I said Smith- Beaumont you’d find me straight away as my middle name is Marie. So technically I wasn’t lying unlike you. My mom always spoke about Jackson Walker, I panicked. A kiss is a kiss surely?”
“I had to lie, I was on the run from Bastien. Listen, as you said before what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Our secrets safe, although you do know where to find me if you want round three though.”
“If you wasn’t a Prince even though you’ve abdicated, I’d be tempted to punch you right now. Thank you for keeping this between us. Still friends Zimmer?”
“Of course suture. But the offer is still there- ya know if you get bored of Walker.” Hugging her, they both had closure and both eventually laughed at the awkward situation. She now realised why Olivia kept running to him- Leo was great in the sac, she couldn’t deny that and she would never admit that to anyone. But he wasn’t Drake. Her boyfriend.
“Hey baby.”
“Hey you. What did Maxwell want?”
“He gave me the protective brother lecture. Begging me to not hurt you or leave you- I wouldn’t do that anyway. I’d rather have this ‘lecture’ from him than Bertrand. Are you ready to go back to the palace?”
“Im ready for you.” One of these days you could actually be a Walker. Leo’s words kept repeating in her mind, placing a kiss on his lips, she melted into his embrace.
“C’mon then m’lady.”
*****
Arriving back at the palace, Amber wanted to go to her room first to collect some ‘sleepover essentials’. Opening her door, there was a box surrounded with holes and a ribbon in the middle of her bed. Peering in her mouth was agape believing this wasn’t reality- more like an hallucination, tears began pouring down her face.
“Jackson!” Opening the box eagerly, the puppy jumped out of the box- excited to see his mom.
“You have a pup? Called Jackson?”
“When I got him I couldn’t think of a name, my mom suggested Jackson. I think she had a crush on your father, the name kind of stuck with him.”
“Well who wouldn’t have a crush on a Walker? But how has he got here?” They both looked concerned at each other, in the back of her mind she just assumed that one of her friends sent him. Scrutinising the box, Drake found a note- passing it to Amber she read it out loud.
I think he’s missed his Mom, meet me in the ballroom. I’ll be waiting for you. Come alone X
No Matter What | Loki & Sibling!Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Thor + Sibling!Reader + Loki (mainly Loki + Reader moments)
Genre: Fluff, tad bits of sadness
Synopsis: Thor and Loki may not always be on the best terms, but they can agree on one thing, their sister was the most important person in their lives.
Requested?: Nope
(Takes place in Avengers l, 2012)
“What, scared of a little lightning?”
“I’m not overly fond of what follows” Loki looks a tad bit frightened by the idea of having his schemes being discovered by his hot headed brother (from another mother. )
Suddenly there was a loud thump on top of the quinjet in the middle the storm, nearly knocking the jet 90 degrees sideways.
“ Brother don’t even right now. You did this to yourself- Stark what the hell are you doing?” I turn to face Tony who has opened the hatch to the quinjet. Before he could fly out to attack, Thor swoops in, and knocks the man of iron off his ass and straight into Steve.
Thor aggressively rips Loki out of his seat, not bothering to take off the seatbelt. He turns to me with soft eyes, and kisses my forehead with one of his hands still around Loki’s neck.
“Hello sister. Are you enjoying Midgard?— oh do not fret. This shouldn’t take long. I just need a word.”
I nod, crossing my arms. It was nothing new, they always fought with each other, and being grown ups was still no exception.
Thor quickly flys away, with a dangling Loki in his grasp.
“We need a plan of attack—“ Steve calls to Tony who walks by me.
“Yeah. Attack.” And with that he jumps out of the jet.
I turn to a bewildered Steve who is contemplating whether or not to follow him or follow his own plan.
“Please don’t hurt my brothers too much. They may be idiots but I love them dearly Rogers.” Steve nods and pats my arm in reassurance, taking a step towards the edge.
“I’d sit this one out Cap. These guys are from legends, they’re practically gods.” I hear Nat advise Steve, who turns around.
“There’s only one god ma’am, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t look like that.”
“You’ve got interesting family Y/N.”
“That I do. That I do Nat.”
.
“Can I please just speak to my brother in private. I don’t want him to feel like I don’t trust him...that’s the last thing I want. “ I plead with the Avengers sitting at the conference table, mumbling the last bit.
After Tony was able to get Loki to surrender himself to SHIELD, they’ve put him in the giant cage that was built for emergencies, in other words, code green.
For a little while, they made futile attempts to get answers, hints or information out of Loki, but he was stubborn as always. I couldn’t watch them poke at my brother anymore so I decided to try and speak with him. Without the cameras and microphones.
I looked over at Fury who begrudgingly nodded in approval after a few moments of thinking. After the whole Thor fighting off a giant metal thing that decimated a small town in the middle of a desert, I decided to stay with SHIELD to explore the different world. Fury took me under his wing, admiring my polite and innocent personality, since he usually was surrounded with hot headed agents and frustrating interns.
Sighing and giving everyone a small smile, I smooth down my deep green bardot-mini dress, which Thor insisted I wear, never wanting me to forget how special I was compared to these “tiny people”.
As I walk down the hall, my heels clicking pleasantly against the clean floor, the guards looking at me warily.
I stop in front of the door leading me into the room with the cell, the guard looking me up and down.
“Sorry ma’am—“
“Fury has allowed me entry.” I quietly interrupt, flashing a tiny smile, awkwardly shifting my feet as he touches his earpiece.
After getting the clear he nods, and opens the door for me. I walk in to see a circular ramp surrounding the entire glass cage which takes up majority of the room.
In the middle of the cage, Loki is pacing back and forth eyeing the control panel in front of the cage.
I walk around towards the front of the cage, eyes steadily looking at the state he was in. Unlike Thor, I was not naive, I knew he was up to something. My brother was not one to give up so easily if he has set his mind to something.
“Hello little doe. Come to interrogate me? Or perhaps ask why I’m damn mad?” He spits venomously. I flinch back at his new behavior towards me but try to cover it up.
“No. The cameras are off actually. I wanted to come talk to you in private, I didn’t want you to feel trapped and untrusted.” I spoke gently, walking towards the glass and placing my hand on the glass.
Loki sighs, looking at camera which was no longer beeping red, indicating it was in fact off.
“I’m sorry Y/N. These humans are incredibly infuriating and it’s hard to be in their presence for long. It makes me quickly irritable, even to you.” He explains softly, marching towards the glass and placing his hand on the glass parallel to mine.
“May I ask why you’re doing this brother?”
“Because— I’ve been lied to. You know well I deserve to rule. I was promised to be a king. And I will be—Over these humans.” He spits, although his venom doesn’t meet his eyes as they’re trained on me.
I sigh, and sway back and forth the shoes starting to hurt my feet.
Loki takes notice to this, as being observant was one of his many talents.
“You look stunning sister, although I sense deep discomfort.” Loki frowns before waving his hand and my dress glows and is replaced by green blouse and black skinny jeans.
“I’m afraid that is as much magic this cell permits me to do.”
“It’s okay Loki— Hey, we still match.” I smile and laugh a little, sticking my hands in my pockets.
He smiles slightly, and his smile reminded you so much of when you were children.
‘ Thor! Come and get me if you can !’ My tiny feet padded rapidly against the palace floor as I ran and tried to flee from my giant brother.
Quite suddenly I bumped into a wall and fell onto my bum. I look up with wide eyes and find a curious Loki towering over me.
‘Loki!’ I yell excitedly grabbing his arm.
‘Thor is chasing after me ! Wanna play?’ I asked, tugging at his arm.
‘Why sure little one. Is this what you call tag?’ He asks questioningly.
I nod rapidly, smiling brightly at my older brother, he replicated the smile and quickly drags me down a corridor to escape from the lost Thor.
Times were much simpler then, when blood was thicker than water to Loki. The cracks in Thor and Loki’s bond seemed to start out of no where and soon turned into a chasm. It was a devastating rift for the family. They had totally lost trust in each other. Although Thor is an empathetic person, Loki is stubborn and cold. It seemed that things would never get better between the pair.
“What are you thinking about little one?” Loki snaps me out of my day dream and I peer up at him, sighing quietly before leaning on the railing next to the glass door.
“When times were much better for us. When we were children, on Asgard. Playing tag and climbing trees and such.” My eyes cast down to my shoes as I hear Loki hum in agreement.
“I do miss times like those. Sadly, things do change over time.”
I smile a little and go to say something when Loki looks me dead in the eyes.
“No matter what happens today, tomorrow, and even this week—between the Avengers and I, I just want you to know that I love you very dearly sister. You and mother are the only ones that I feel as though I can confide in. I would never intentionally ruin your trust for me, or make you think ill of me. But this is my destiny, I can not simply walk away from it.” He explains, placing his hand on the glass.
I smile at him and nod, “ I will not stop you brother. It would be wiser to have you learn and experience on your own then to have me dictate your actions. Although I wish no harm for these people, I have grown quite fond of Earth in the short period of time I’ve been here.”
Placing my hand on the glass, I go to say something else when the helicarrier suddenly lurches violently, a loud explosion resonating throughout the ship.
I fall to the floor, landing on my side, dazed and confused. When I look up I see Loki pressing his palms against the glass, leaning down to look at me.
“No matter what happens.” He says softly, pressing his palm harder towards me.
“No matter what brother... I love you too.” Before I could reciprocate his actions, guards burst through the door quickly running my way. They help me off the floor and carefully escort me out of the room, towards the main control room where it would be safer.
I throw one last fleeting look at my brother who was in deep thought. As the door to the room slams shut, I hear a deep, core-shaking roar echo throughout the hall.
An inhuman roar.
Suddenly the guards are telling me sprint as we run down the hall, still dazed I vaguely hear one of the guards yelling.
This was far from over.
“Code Green.”
Can’t Get Started, Chapter 6
NicoMaki, Love Live, 4.4K, 6/6
Summary: After jail and the worst bachelorette party ever, Maki is sick. And in a mood. How will this affect her almost a relationship with Nico?
CHAPTER SIX
Maki felt pale. She’d been standing next to Rin, trying not to fidget with the ring, and focus on what the officiant was saying so she didn’t miss her cue. Between that and forcing herself not to keep glancing where Nico was sitting next to the newly introduced, very loud, very intrusive Nozomi, Maki had managed to get through the ceremony and smile when Rin and Hanayo had just gleamed at other when they were pronounced wife and wife.
But now she was actually feeliing ill, clammy, and...Hanayo had also started looking paler than usual. Maybe it was just the hangover, or maybe they both had nerves. Maki still had a speech to give, now that they were at the reception. Yes, it was going to be short and Maki had written it down and rehearsed in advance, but she still had to stand up, in front of half of Chicago, with Rin giggling at her, and say the words. Maki started to sway and grabbed the bathroom sink for support. It was a nice sink, very gleaming, and Maki could see her face reflected, which was a mistake because she looked like…
“Maki?” The door opened and Nico sounded concerned.
Not now, not Nico, this was not good. “Go away, I’ll be just a minute.” Maki croaked.
“You sound terrible. And you kept getting paler and paler.”
Then Nico was there, her hand on Maki’s arm, spinning the Maki to face her. It was the spinning that did it, Maki decided, the world had been almost swaying, and now it was actually swaying and if she didn’t do something she was going to throw up on Yazawa Nico’s super stylish designer dress.
And then she did.
Of the bathrooms, Maki had met Nico in this was probably the second best. Maki liked the cozy sofas and the warm colors. It was surely comforting Nico as Maki threw up, her head throbbing in a way that didn’t spell hangover. No, fever, chills, hours after exposure...this was more like food poisoning. Maki had a sudden vision of poultry wandering across the stage at the Blue Zoo and someone’s pet turtle backstage and groaned. Why hadn’t she thrown up on Hanayo’s dress. Why wasn’t Hanayo or Kotori right here with her?
“Maki?” Nico knocked on the closed door.
“”Sokay. I’m almost out of things to lose.”
Nico laughed, but it was a careful, quiet laugh, “It’s good to keep your sense of humor.”
Maki groaned again. Stomach cramps. “I think it’s food poisoning.”
“Oh.” Nico said, and Maki could hear her pull out her phone. “Do you need water or ginger tea or…?”
Maki shook her head. Nothing else was going in her stomach for at least the rest of the day.
“Maki?”
“No, I’m…” pause for retching noise, “okay.”
Nico sighed, “Do I call us an ambulance or a cab?”
The main bathroom door opened and there was another voice, “Maki, are you in here? Rin’s looking for you and someone said you looked ill.”
“Mama?”
Yazawa Nico turned. Maki had pointed out her parents when they’d arrived but there hadn’t been any time for a real introduction. Maki’s mother didn’t look old enough to be Maki’s mother, not that Nico would be gross and cliche about complimenting her by saying that. Nico was familiar enough with concerned mothers to go right to facts.
“Hi, I’m Yazawa Nico. Maki thinks she has food poisoning.”
Nico appreciated the questioning tilt of the maternal Nishikino’s eyebrow. Maki had certainly inherited the patrician hauteur and flawless skin.
“I’m all right, Mama.”
“Obviously, you are not, or your girlfriend wouldn’t be looking so worried.”
Well, at least Nico didn’t have to explain that part.
“Let’s take you home.”
“My home is in LA, Mama.” Stubborness managed to add some energy to Maki’s voice. “Nico and I were going to….”
“We were planning to watch a movie or something after the wedding. Nico has an early flight.”
“She’s going on location for a movie.” Maki croaked.
Maki’s mom seemed mostly bemused as Nico stood there, unsure of what to say. But the elder Nishikino was insistent about her plan. “I can have the driver take you and Nico to the house. We have movies there.”
Maki realized she didn’t have enough energy to win this argument with her mother. Surprisingly, Nico had been quiet.
“What about Nozomi, Nico?” Maki flopped between remembering random details and dizzying wooziness.
Nico shrugged, “She crashed the wedding on her own, she can get home on her own. Not a Nico problem. I’m worried about you. I think your mother’s right.”
Maki’s mother nodded, “I’ll text the driver. Maki, Nico can ride home with you and I’ll tell Rin and Hanayo what’s going on.”
“Thanks, Mama.”
“We can talk properly later, Nico. It’s nice to finally meet you.” Maki’s mom was focused on her phone, texting orders.
“Yes, it’s nice to meet you.” Nico turned back to the bathroom door, “Maki, I’m going to grab our coats and I’ll be right back. I don’t want you to get cold.”
“Okay, Nico.” Maki forced cheerfulness into her reply.
Maki’s mom watched as Nico bopped out of the bathroom “So that’s the famous movie star girlfriend. She’s pretty. Not as much makeup as I expected.”
Maki groaned. “Not now, Mama, please.”
“So did you stay at her hotel last night?” A sharp question.
Maki actually found herself willing the waves of nausea to come back so she’d have a legit reason not to answer questions. Moving to LA had allowed her to avoid in person parental dating advice. She couldn’t wait to get back.
###
Maki’s phone went off. Nico’s ringtone. Maki smiled and reached an arm out from under the blanket she was curled up in, watching the latest in the Street Drift series, Street Drift: Neon, one of Nico’s action films. No kissing, just Nico on the run from the top secret government agency she used to work for. Sure, Maki had looped the tank top, torn tuxedo, and sports car scene a few too many times, but she was probably still feverish and not really making good decisions. And Nico and the sleek car against the backdrop of wet urban neon was making her fingers itch for her mini keyboard so she could lay down some riffs….maybe Honoka could find someone to animate a short and get Nico to do the voice. That might work as a collaboration. Maki preferred to have her inspirations close. And it was always so strange to be so deep in a project and talk to people outside of it, who had no idea what images and sounds filled up Maki’s mental space. And then maybe she and Nico could actually spend some time together, unlike this week, when Maki had spent 3 days on her parent’s couch and Nico had spent 3 days off the grid, away from her phone. Actually Nico’s phone had been spending time with Cocoro, as Maki had called a couple of times and gotten a crisp “Nico is on set and unavailable” as a response.
The NicoTone went off again. Maki shook her head, paused the movie, and checked her messages.
N: Hey, Gorgeous (o˚̑̑̑̑̑ 3˚̑̑̑̑̑ o) Nico is exhausted, but wanted to see how you were.
M: Still feverish.
N: ଽ ૮( ⁰▱๋⁰ )ა Is someone feeding you soup?
M: Mama had the chef make a bunch. It’s been nice.
N: What’s your favorite soup?
M: Tomato…
N: Like bisque?
M: Sure. Whatever, as long as there’s tomato.
N: Σ(-᷅_-᷄๑) Nico would make you minestrone. Lots of vegetables and vitamins.
Maki leaned back, imagining how it would smell. She really needed a shower. It was good that they weren’t video chatting. Her hair was a disaster. She rubbed her face. Nope. Text chat only. For at least a week.
N: Did you fall asleep on Nico?
M: No, but I wouldn’t mind…
M: But…
N: But?
M: After I threw up on you, you’re probably just seeing me as sick…(≥_<)
Maki paused. She’d been thinking about this a lot. They had had hardly any time for any kind of date, and now Nico barely had time for text conversations. It seemed like their relationship was as worn thin as she was, curled up in the corner of a couch, not sure when things would feel better. Or normal. There had never been a normal.
N: What do you mean?
M: I mean we haven’t had any time for any real dates. And I keep doing awkward, unattractive things.
N: You enjoyed the movie. And you obviously can’t help falling for Nico♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)
Maki understood that Nico was trying to keep the tone light, but most of their encounters had not been wins from Maki’s perspective.
M: Yeah, but…
M: I just don’t feel like a priority.
Maki’s phone rang and she jumped.
“Hello?” Maki squeaked.
Nico sounded brusque, “I’m sorry I can’t be there right now, Maki, and that I had to leave so quickly, but this job was planned for 8 months.”
“I know, Nico.” Maki sighed, feeling the tears, “I’m just tired, and...well, this week has been a fiasco.”
Nico chuckled, “Have you talked to Hanayo yet?”
“Is it 2025?” Maki was still furious about Hanayo’s behavior when introduced to Kotori’s burlesque crowd friends. The morning after the reception, Rin and Hanayo had flown to Tokyo for their honeymoon and Maki had been ignoring Rin’s texts and Rin was too busy slurping ramen on the food tour Maki had set up as a wedding present to care much.
The silence was awkward and fatigue and frustration were tag teaming Maki.
She took a deep breath and spoke clearly, "Hey, Nico, can we talk some other time. I'm not feeling well."
"Um...sure, it's late. Nico just wanted to see how you were doing."
Maki felt herself shrug and more tears, but she fought to keep her voice clear, "Thanks. Have a good shoot."
"Get some rest." Nico sounded worried, "Everything'll seem better in the morning."
"Sure. Good night, Nico." Maki yawned. That was a safe, emotion camouflaging gesture.
"Good night, Maki."
Maki knew Nico wanted to say more. But she didn’t want to hear more. Maki dropped the phone into the couch and pulled the blanket over her head. She wanted to go back home, have enough energy to sit at her piano, and play until Umi came by with her favorite takeout. But first she had to be able to sit through a flight. Maybe tomorrow would be better.
The NicoTone. A text. Maki let the throw fall over her face. Polite took energy. Waiting took energy. Maki had none left for making anybody else feel better.
###
For anyone other than Umi, Maki would have skipped the premiere. She refused to let Kotoi dress her, opting instead for one of her favorite long coats, a repurposed vintage purple arrow feather kimono over tuxedo pants and an open collar Irish linen shirt. Comfortable for Maki, but not even hinting approach me to anyone else. Umi was nervous, but thrilled by the movie's reception and incredibly happy to be in a sweeping blue gown Kotori had personally sewn for her, Honoka hovering over the two in a bright blue tuxedo that would have looked 80’s high school on anyone else. And now it was over, Umi was being dragged by friends and colleagues to a celebratory party and Maki had ducked out after the movie was over. Gino’s East. Quiet table in the back. Deep dish, Chicago style, reminding her of the days before Hollywood red carpets and a Nico too busy to be in town. She’d ordered ahead, to cut down on the wait time, and grabbing a beer at the bar to announce her arrival, she slid into her seat. She’d posted a going to Gino’s East TWIG post from the theater so Rin would be jealous.
The pizza slid in front of her, the basil, tomato, and cheese blend aromatic and tempting. Maki glanced up, ready to smile at the waitress, and froze as she stared into worried ruby eyes. Then a glittering grin took over as Nico winked, “It’s almost as hot as Nico. Almost as heavy too.” Nico flexed her arm, her black and orange sleeved Tsumori Chisato varsity jacket adding to the hanging out after a game feel. Maki suddenly felt like she was back in high school, having a congratulatory pizza after Rin won another state championship.
“What...why...how?”
“Nico TWIG stalks all the hot composers she’s dating. I was going to crash the after party but you went…” Nico waved her arms in a why here gesture. "How does this work, Is it like a pancake stack of pizzas?” Nico slid into the chair opposite Maki, poking the pizza with the serving knife, which Maki quickly grabbed.
“No. And you’re in Toronto?”
Nico shook her head, “Got a weekend off. Talked them into rewriting a few scenes, swore I’d work better faster stronger if they let me go home for a weekend.” Nico opened the jacket, revealing the sporty black dress with a central band of thin vertical stripes, light blue sandwiching red and white.
Maki shrugged, cut the pizza, took a pause to appreciate the long, rubbery, streaming, steaming strings of mozzarella that draped as she lifted the slice to a plate, then scraped the pizza free.
When she put the blade down, Nico spoke again. “So how are you? I’ve been missing your texts. That’s a lovely coat. Did Kotori make it?”
“No.” Maki snorted, “Kotori wanted me in some red velvet alarm of a dress with barely any…” Maki gestured at her breasts. “I’ve seen where she gets some of her ideas and I’m not in the mood. I might never be in the mood.” Maki took a bite, sighed happily, then swallowed and frowned, “I text you.”
Nico slid her phone out of her pocket and read in a sing song voice, “Hi, Nico. It’s raining here. Hi, Nico, the plane landed. Hi, Nico, Umi’s premiere is tonight, couldn’t you crash and let me spill something all over you so we have to leave and make out, and I hate the dress Kotori’s trying to slither me into.” Nico’s face made a mockery of a Scream face, “Oh wait, Nico, didn’t get that last one. It had personality. Nothing you’ve sent for the past week has had any…” Nico pursed her lips and then “POP. No pizzaz. No pizza.” Nico poked the pie with a finger.
“I wouldn’t have texted you that.” Maki took another bite and then after Nico kept staring, spoke again, “I had nothing to say.
Nico actually sounded quiet, “Nico looked forward to your texts at the end of too many hours on set.”
“Cocoro never let me talk to you.”
“Cocoro didn’t even get to talk to me. It’s a period piece. Phones stay in the trailers. We are not having one of those 'ooh, what idiot left the RedBull on the set' moments. A three PA team checks everyone. Craft services is half a mile away from the set.” Nico shook her head, and Maki noticed how little makeup the movie star was wearing and how dark the circles under her eyes were, “Nico is exhausted.”
“It’s contagious.” Maki stared at the wall, only watching Nico out of the corner of her eye.
Nico glancd at her smart watch, “It’s been five minutes, something should have been spilled on Nico by now. Who are you?”
That got Maki to glare directly at Nico, then she started rolling her beer bottle on its bottom, “So this is predictable for you, huh. To the minute?”
Nico snorted, “So not that, Nishikino. Or Nico wouldn’t have walked off the set.”
“If you walked off my set, I’d…”
“You’d what?”
There was a long pause, Maki not making eye contact, finger tapping the table, beer bottle nearly spinning on its own, then almost a whisper, “Fire you.”
Nico inhaled, nodding as if confirming something important, “Nico is not going anywhere until you agree to a few things.”
“Like what?”
“A wedding date.”
Maki had been increasing the velocity of the beer bottle twirl and it suddenly spun out of her control, bouncing on the table top, rolling to the edge, and falling into her lap.
“And we have a spill.” Nico did a quick drum cadence.
Maki stood, fuming, then hopping as the beer bottle dropped to the floor and she had to sidestep to avoid landing on it, “So this is funny?”
“Yes.”
“Why?” Maki arched an eyebrow, certain Nico had no good response.
“Because you, Nishikino Maki, are perfect. Perfectly unpredicatable, perfectly funny, perfectly on pitch, perfectly charming, perfectly gorgeous, perfectly grumpy, perfect with every outfit Nico owns, perfect for Nico’s family photo albums, today and tomorrow.” Nico stooped, put the bottle on the table, pulled herself up with Maki’s hand, “Now let’s go make sure that lovely coat doesn’t get stained.”
Maki crossed her arms, “You just want to make out.”
“Yes, I do.” Nico leaned back against the table, hands behind her, ruby eyes not leaving Maki’s as she considered the question, her not for the public half smile a serious study in mischief and longing. “Don’t you?”
Maybe if Maki hadn’t brought up the making out she could have said no, but there were too many near brushes and not enough moments and all those nights spent staring at Nico’s sexy selfies wondering what Nico would want to do if Maki had sent one back. And, Maki found herself smiling, being both grateful and a little confused about Nico’s patience with flirty chair fabric pics.
“Ah, Nico’s in your head,” Nico raised her hand to her temple, “And Nico’s winning.”
“Hmmph.” Maki twisted the smile into a snarl, trying for tempestuous. “Am I a prize to you?”
Nico shook her head, waggling a finger. “Silly Maki, that’s a stupid question. Nico will grant you one do over.”
Fuck it. Irritated and needing to do SOMETHING, Maki reached out, grabbed the front of Nico’s designer varsity jacket, zipper halves grinding into her palms and pulled the tantalizingly troublesome temptation in for a resounding kiss. Maki’s heart pounded so hard that her eardrums were mini tympanis and her lips slammed into Nico’s, followed by the rest of her, and Nico nearly slid back into the pizza. A hand on Maki’s shoulder pushed gently and Maki pulled back.
A long moment with sizzling air between them, then Nico whispered, “Let’s go home."
And Maki let Nico take her by the hand, and there was a cab waiting, more kissing, gentle, swooning surges, they were in Nico’s apartment, and then time started for Maki again.
“Hey Nico?” They were on the couch, Nico tenderly kissing her way up Maki’s neck.
“Hmmm….”
“Can we work together?”
“What?” Puzzled, Nico stopped, head tilted as she stared at Maki, “Is Nico boring you?”
“No, no…” Maki was nervous, her skin was tingling, she wanted Nico to keep going, but...Maki slid back down the couch, pulling up her legs as a barricade. “I want this…” She could feel the blush, but she forced herself not to look away from Nico, “I want, I’ve wanted you...so much….”
Nico decided this was a good time to start crawling down the couch toward Maki and Maki could feel herself getting frantic with some weird version of panic and the urge to explain her idea for an animation to Nico.
“I just thought...I was watching Street Drift Neon and I could see it, jazzy rainy neon streets, the sexiest car, a character who looks just enough like you stepping out of the snazzy sexy car, animated, did I say animated, all rain and jazz and sex and sax...we could make it together...and I...I...I don’t want you to leave….”
Nico sat up, running her hands through her hair and Maki watched fascinated as the sable hairs fell like arcs of midnight neon shadowing the soft candlelight, then Nico settled back onto her legs, reached out and took both of Maki’s hands, “I’m taking you with me.”
“Really?” Maki let herself lean forward.
“Really.” Nico’s face, always a study in nuance, was now carved in bold determination, “Whatever you want. Vacation, honeymoon, working on a project together when Nico has breaks. Whatever you want, Nishikino Maki, because Nico wants you.”
Maki could feel her breathing even out. Nico was sitting so calmly and her voice was as soft and bright and warm as the flames on the table next to them. And Nico’s hand was sliding up the curve of Maki’s hip and Maki felt herself relax into the touch suddenly, surprised at how Nico’s eyes widened. And then they were so close and Maki’s gaze was snared by jeweled brilliance and her nose tapped Nico’s and their laughter merged and Maki licked her lips and Nico couldn’t stop glancing down and Maki opened her mouth as Nico’s breath rushed out, pleading “Maki’ and then lips brushed curved crushed against lips, everything suddenly bright, breathless, and breaking, Maki slipping back, Nico’s hands, soft skin against the tightness of tense muscles, stroking Maki’s sides, as Maki pushed back and up, hands and legs reaching for something, anything to grasp, to pull, to tear, Nico whispering, licking around Maki’s ear, each stroke tender, yet Maki was crazed with need. Her head thrashed, startling Nico, who moved back to lips, kissing, solid, as fingers teased Maki’s neck, barely touching skin, skimming hairs, and Maki thrashed up, half sitting, with a feral whine.
And then Nico stopped and Maki suddenly fearful and cold, froze. But before the mood broke, Nico was nipping at Maki’s neck, one hand in Maki’s hair, and the other sliding down Maki’s abs, slipping down her pants, when had that become undone, and how was Nico and then teeth pulling on Maki’s earlobe and Nico had all her attention back, “Don’t you want Nico?”
Maki wanted to scream, but Nico’s fingers were scrambling any words into inarticulate sounds.
“Maki?” Softer, hands slowing slightly. Nico was sure of her answer, but this time, this first touch, this first trust…
Maki turned her head so she could smile at Nico, her arms pulling the tiny woman close enough that her every breath and pulse answered Nico’s question. And then, in a moment Nico was sure she would remember every day after, candlelight flickering shadows and brightness across Maki’s face, trust and need and reflected flames a dream kaleidoscope, while Maki’s voice, suddenly sultry, whispered a “yes” that Nico felt refuel her, rocketing her through anything familiar to a new stratosphere, an infinity where Maki melting into incandescence exploded into endless scattering stars.
###
The door to the bathroom banged open, and Maki stormed through, nervous and shouty, “I can’t do this Nico, it’s too much and Cocoro keeps giving me public speaking tips.”
Nico grinned and looked down at the bundle nuzzling into her, “And this is how I met your Mama, right here, but Nico was the one nervous about a speech.” Then Nico winked at Maki, “Dia hasn’t spilled anything on me yet.”
Maki flopped into the chair next to Nico, hand picking at the fabric nervously, “Give her time.”
“I will.” Nico rocked their daughter gently, but Dia had reached the fussy stage of hungry. “But until then, you still manage it quite often.”
Maki snorted, “I think you pay waiters to sneak up behind me. I’m going to have Honoka take pictures next time.”
“There will never be proof.” Nico stated proudly.
“Not unless I get Cocoro on my side.”
Nico giggled, “Good luck with that, Princess.”
Maki leaned over and nudged Nico, “I can be charming. Plus, she adores Dia.”
“Everyone adores Dia. Dia is adorable. Like her Mama.” Nico gleamed at her gorgeous wife, dressed in a new Minami design, a classic toga drape in black and white mottled pattern, with easy access so 2 month old Dia could feed. “And hungry.”
Maki took their daughter, hands sure and gentle, amethyst eyes warm with tender devotion, “Hello Dia, Mama missed you.”
Nico sat quiet, entranced by Maki’s open affection for their firstborn. She felt like buying this hotel so they could have Dia’s first birthday here and Dia’s elementary school graduation and Dia’s prom and Dia’s wedding and she and Maki could meet here as their daughter and family grew and talk about how one encounter had changed so much of their expected futures. One wonderful encounter. Joining their paths together. And their perfect daughter was the first dividend.
Nico leaned over, kissing Maki’s cheek, “Thank you.”
Maki raised an eyebrow, “For?”
“Spilling everything on Nico.”
Maki winked, “It wasn’t easy, you’re not the biggest target.”
“HEY!”
Maki leaned in and kissed Nico soundly, “You’re magnetic.”
“You’re mesmerizing.”
The door slammed open, “Maki, if you can manage a simple visualization excercise, you might not completely fail…”
Maki leaned back with an eye roll as her nemesis stomped up to her.
Nico bounced up, “Cocoro, why don’t you take Nico’s camera and go set up so you can video Maki’s speech while Nico holds Dia.”
Cocoro paused to frown at Maki, then nodded at Nico, “Okay, sis. Blooper footage is a good idea. I could use a laugh.”
“HEY!” Maki half rose, but Dia cried out and Maki sat back down, “Shush, it’s all right, Mama’s not going to fire your aunt.” Because Nico won’t let me, Maki added in her head, but Dia didn’t need to know that.
Nico’s arms were around Maki, “You can’t fire her.”
“I know.”
“But I’m giving her a month off. And a trip to Tokyo.”
“Really?”
“Really. It’s your anniversary present. You and me and Dia and the cabin. No work, no interruptions. You can play piano all night long if you want, Nico will cook, we can teach Dia the constellations, and then everybody can come visit the new princess in April.”
Nico could feel Maki relax. Awards season, an acclaimed movie in Slide In Through My Window, and a newborn had been an exhausting mix, and Nico wanted to spoil her wife and daughter.
Maki sounded hesitant, “So can I practice my speech?”
“Okay.” Nico released her wife, scooted to a seat opposite, stretched her arms out in front of her, sat, leaned forward, slammed her hands into her knees, the picture of alert attention, and winked at Maki, remembering Maki doing the same for her, “Go.”
A/N: 'S done. So much has happened since I started this. And that continues. So stay safe, take care, and I hope you enjoyed this bit of fluff.
2.       The Good Laugh
The week went by like quicksilver as most days proved to be eventful, but Lola truly felt like she got the hang of it after a few days. She mostly did what she liked the most about this job: socializing with patients, listening to their stories or anything they rambled about. For her it was like looking into an alternative version of reality through someone else’s eyes. She also adjusted herself well enough to the morning rush of the hospital, arriving a bit early so she spent her last couple of minutes before clocking in at the staff’s room calmly looking at Gotham’s dark, grimy morning by the window while sipping her morning tea. The room was packed around the shift change even making the corner she was at a noisy place to be. Some were having their breakfast, some were playing cards on the table and some were just talking or rather trying to out scream the other groups. It didn’t bother Lola though, noise was something prison teaches you to tolerate, but suddenly she heard her name.
- How did your first week go? – she had no idea what the guy’s name was or how did he know hers, but she gave him a faint smile nonetheless.
- It went well. They’re a bit different than what I’m used to, but generally nice.
- Nice? – someone else from that table chimed in. – I’m sorry, but you can’t think of them as nice… it will be the end of you.
- I’d be more than happy to learn that the hard way.
- That is so eastern of you, but you’re in the west wing now. You don’t know what you’re in for. These guys aren’t here on their free will, most hate this place and will make you want to hate it too.
- So far I’m good – she shrugged, making everyone in the room roll their eyes, but at least they left her alone after that. She quickly finished her tea just in case, to avoid any other conversations someone might strike up with her. Honestly she tried to make friends here, chit-chatting from time to time, smiling at everyone, but she was repulsed by most of the staff. By how proud they were of their omnipresent cruelty towards the patients.
Lola was assigned to the cafeteria, mostly to patrol and to maybe help to feed some patients who were unable to do it themselves. She had to admit that the people looked much harsher in this part of Arkham, but she still could not imagine herself not being her kindest self with them, even if that will be ‘the end of her’. While looking around her gaze suddenly was met with Arthur’s. They were in the same room from time to time during the past week, smiling or giving each other a small nod, but she just never had the courage to walk up to him for seemingly nothing and star talking. Now here they were, her leaned against the wall, him alone at a table with an unlit cigarette in his hand and some mushy oatmeal in front of him. He was just causally staring. She greeted him with an awkward wave and a smile. Even from afar she could see his lips trembling into a slight smile, but he wasn’t giving her any reaction other than that. She decided to concentrate on the other patients and putting the time of their first real interaction into fate’s hands. Arthur leaned back in his chair, fidgeting with his leg, watching all the workers around him doing their jobs. As soon as the closest one to him was Lola, with a slight movement of his hand he knocked his tray off of the table, making his sad breakfast of oatmeal and soggy fruit salad land on the floor. Each nurse and helper sighed in exhaustion at the same time. A string of awkward eye conversation ensued where everyone stared at all the others with a hurrying look. Of course Lola was encouraged the most to do something since she was the closest in vicinity. She rolled her eyes, but did as the majority pleased. She put down the jug of water she was carrying and headed to Arthur’s table. When she got next to him, he gave her a big-eyed look as if he was saying sorry, but Lola wasn’t taking it.
- Is everything alright? – she asked.
- Yes… why wouldn’t it? – he smiled at her innocently.
- You knocked down your plate on purpose – he didn’t answer for a while, so she just sighed and knelt down to pick up what she could salvage, but she could see him leaning closer to her. The fact that none of her colleagues were alarmed by his movement goes without saying.
- Maybe I wanted to see you from a little bit closer – he whispered. His voice paired with his oddly attractive smell of cigarettes sent chills down Lola’s back, but she just looked straight back at him and let out a small chuckle.
- You know I work here, right? You can ask me to come by anytime.
- Well… - he said, but his voice was raspy as if he was trying to hold back laughter. – I’m free this afternoon.
- I’ll make sure to give you a visit – he suddenly blurted out in an oddly nervous laughter but he got a hold of it fairly quickly. She pretended like nothing happened, this wasn’t the weirdest thing she’d seen here. – See you then. – she smiled at him and turned around.
- Wait! – he said when she was a couple of steps away. – What’s your name?
- I’m Lola.
- Hello, Lola… I’m Arthur – he raised his arm and after a moment she shook his hand.
- Hello, Arthur. I like that name – and just like that she was gone from the cafeteria.
- Lola – he whispered to himself, while lightning his much awaited cigarette.
Both of them felt like afternoon couldn’t come fast enough. Lola was always fascinated by the man she’d previously known as Joker. As outrageous and shocking as his actions were on TV, she felt oddly attracted to him. As she was banned by her mother to participate in the riots, she only ever saw the benefits of the movement he started. And of course being the edgy teenager she was, she sympathized with the tormented man on screen, who finally had enough courage to stand up against his biggest torturer, society itself. From the comfort of her living room he could be seen as the good guy, but definitely someone to feel sorry for… and she always had a soft spot for that. As for Arthur, not only did he think that Lola was the most attractive worker in here (or patient for that matter of fact), but also she was the only one remotely nice. He didn’t hold it against anyone that they acted cold towards him, it seemed to be a must here, but he really wished they wouldn’t.
- He doesn’t want to come out right now, he does that sometimes – a nurse, Ramon answered Lola’s question about Arthur’s whereabouts. – Damn, I will have to get him his meds after I finish this – he mumbled more to himself, but she put it together. What a smart man.
- I’ll do it, don’t worry – she said, while patting Ramon’s shoulder reassuringly.
- You sure?
- Of course… I got you, man.
Although she was strictly forbidden to touch any medicine, she had faced no barriers obtaining them. No one questioned her authority in the matter.
Arthur’s door wasn’t locked, which surprised Lola given the serious safety measures, but this was not her main concern at the moment. Ramon could have been a little absentminded or just didn’t care at all. Her stomach curled up as she held onto the door handle. She pulled the door open and leaned against the frame.
- Knock-knock. – Arthur sat by his desk scribbling in his notebook, but once he heard her voice he turned around on his chair to face her.
- Come in… - he gave her a slight smile.
- May I sit?
- Sure – he said, but as she got near he closed up his notebook.
- I brought you your meds – he took the pills from her and before she could hand him the plastic cup of water she brought he already swallowed them like a thousand times before.
- No need – he shook his head, but she put the cup down in front of him nonetheless, in case he wanted to hydrate his weary body.
- Open – she ordered him.
- You don’t trust me? – he teased back.
- Just do it… - she chuckled.
- Aaa – he finally complied, sticking his tongue out, showing her how he indeed swallowed the pills. She gave him a small nod, but her eyes wandered down to his weathered notebook.
- What are you writing?
- Um… - he instinctively shuffled the pages even closer to him. – That’s private.
- Oh, alright… sorry. – Arthur looked at her for a while. She was so pretty and nice… like Sophie. But Lola had to talk to her, she couldn’t ignore him she said it herself.
- It’s just my thoughts and some jokes, nothing serious. – he couldn’t really put his finger on why he suddenly donned his confident persona, that he more or less built up in here for his old, coyer one. It was almost like he couldn’t do otherwise under her prying gaze.
- Jokes? Could you tell me one? – his face lit up, but he squeezed the notebook even harder in his hand.
- Yeah, of course… - he said unsurely. It’s been awhile since anyone was interested in the contents of his journal, especially the jokes. The other patients respected and feared his reputation enough not to tease him about it and the nurses just didn’t give a shit. – Okay… - he flipped through the pages quickly, trying to hide the crude cut-outs and drawings, unsuccessfully. The sight made Lola smile a little, but she made sure to force a curious look on her face instead. – Here’s a good one: People are like trees… - he glanced at her in anticipation. - … they fall down when you hit them with an axe. – after a moment of silence Lola burst out laughing. She was fully prepared having to force out a convincing pity-laugh, but this dark cleverness caught her off guard, making her laugh for real. Smile spread on Arthur’s face upon seeing Lola’s reaction. – Do you want to hear another one?
- Yeah, absolutely – she said, while still chuckling.
- What’s the worst thing about having a mental illness?
- I don’t know.
- Of course you don’t - he mumbled. She laughed again. – Wait, that wasn’t the joke…
- It still was funny, Arthur – his smile widened.
- Thanks… - he took a theatrical deep breath and started again. – What’s the worst thing about having a mental illness?
- What?
- People expect you to behave as if you don’t – she didn’t find this one funny, but forced out a small laugh anyways, not too loud because she didn’t want to mislead him too much.
- It’s funny because it’s true… - she said. Arthur couldn’t hide his happiness that she liked his jokes. – Not in here though… Could you imagine how surprised the doctors would be if suddenly everyone started to act normal? They wouldn’t know what to do. – now it was his turn to laugh.
- They’d probably send everyone to shock therapy, just to be sure – Arthur said thinking to himself and it made Lola’s honest giggle return. She felt like Arthur had no idea how funny he can be when he’s just being himself.
Suddenly this idyllic harmony of them just looking at each other, trying to memorize every detail of the other’s smile was disturbed by one of Lola’s colleagues stepping into the room unannounced.
- We’re gonna need you on floor 6, Page – there was no way for him to know how unwanted his presence was at that moment. Lola just came in to give Fleck his pills. didn’t she?
- Sure – she stood up. – Thank you for this, Arthur, I really needed a good laugh. – and she was already out of the cell, locking the door behind her.
He wanted to tell her so many things, but he also didn’t want to scare her away, this girl who seemed so innocent and angelic. Maybe if they got to talk again he should ask her about her life. God, he’d hoped this was real… the meds worked for the most part, but just over a month ago he hallucinated his friend Gary to be in here with him. Took him a couple of days and multiple hour-long “conversations” with Gary to realize that it was all in his head. He could feel his laughter emerge, but not the good one like with Lola, it was the one that caused pain and discomfort and chased away so many people. Just not her, if she’s real please not her. At least his condition hadn’t come out in front of her yet. BANG. Arthur let his head fall against his metal desk, while still laughing uncontrollably. And then again, and then again.
Cutesuki 3:17 PM: lol
Koge gave a small roll of her eyes, placing her phone back into her jacket pocket. The chill of the mid winter air fogged her breath, making her feel like she was walking through clouds. Why the weather decided to get so awful on her day off was beyond her, but she hated it. Not only was it her day off, she also had special plans that involved a lot of walking. The act of walking isn’t want got to her, but the fact that it was so cold her nose felt like it was frozen solid did. Even though she was wrapped head to toe in warm clothing, the petite woman felt like an icicle, and the thought of stopping at an approaching coffee shop peaked her interest.
Hm, coffee sounds good, she thought to herself. I wonder if Katsuki would want something. It’s a bit late in the afternoon, but he’s probably worn out. I’ll get him one.
Ducking into the shop, Koge got herself a nice hot cup of straight black coffee and Bakugou his odd mixture of what he always preferred. The man liked spicy coffee, which really wasn’t all that much of a surprise to her, though she couldn’t help but pick on him for his enjoyment of it. There was always the retaliation that she was a freak for liking straight black coffee, which was just as bitter as her personality.
‘That’s okay,’ Koge would always tell him, sly grin on her face. ‘You’re married to me, so you must like my bitter personality.’
Sipping on the hot bitterness from her cup, Koge continued down the sidewalk after her purchase, her body warmed by the drink. She wasn’t the only one to relish in the joy, however, as there was a series of movements from her swollen abdomen. “Oof, chill out there, girl.” Koge whispered quietly to the frozen air. “You always get way too excited when I drink coffee.” Rounding a corner, Koge’s gaze was pulled towards the large building across the street at the end of the block.
Damn, it was ugly. A huge, industrial style with very few windows, and it almost made Koge think that it had popped right out of a post-apocalyptic movie. The thing looked like it could withstand a bomb, with thick dark grey concrete, pipes and steel decorating the exterior. Yes, it was architecturally brilliant, but that didn’t make Koge thing it was any less ugly. Still, it was noticeable, recognizable and marketed perfectly for who worked inside. This had been the first time she had seen this new building, as her lover had just finished construction of this new firm headquarters and moved his entire team just a week ago.
After carefully crossing the street, Koge made her way to what she assumed was the entrance, noticing the two guards standing outside chatting. They seemed quite lax, something that Koge knew Bakugou might snap at them about, but she decided to keep it to herself. Conversation coming to a halt as she approached, one guard whom she was familiar with gave her a welcoming smile. Although this middle aged man had a kind face, Koge had seen him take down people with no mercy or hesitation. She liked him enough, and if Bakugou trusted him, then she could as well.
“Hello, Koge! Come to see the new building, eh?” He held out his hand, not in a way to shake hands, but was silently asking for her ID. Koge nodded, handing both of the coffee cups out towards the other guard, who took them from her. “Hold those, please? And yeah, it’s finally my day off so I can come see it.” After digging through her pocket, she removed her wallet and fished out her ID, giving it to the waiting man before her. He took it, turning on a small flashlight and shining it on the plastic.
“How’s the kiddo?”
“Ah, he’s with his grandparents today. The other is still latched to me.” Koge patted her swollen belly gently, waiting patiently for the return of her ID. With a small chuckle, the guard handed it back to her, turning off his flashlight and placing it back into his pocket. “Not for too much longer. Head on in, I think he’s in his office on the top floor. If not his secretary will tell you.” While Koge put her ID away, he flashed a badge to a sensor on the wall, the large glass doors sliding open with a beep. Koge took her coffee back, heading inside after thanking the two men.
Ooh, secretary. How spoiled. But, he deserves it. He’s worked so hard to get to this point, and so quickly, too. He’s only twenty-seven and his hero firm has grown this huge! I’m so proud of him.
Much to her surprise, the inside of the building was a much more modern industrial style than the outside, with polished concrete and stylish brick walls. The furniture in the lobby matched the style, with red, orange and army green accents. How cute, he sure did decide to keep to his brand. I love it.
After a quick trip up the elevator, Koge followed the signs to Bakugou’s office. Before she could get in, she found she had to stop at a large desk, with three women sitting behind it, all doing computer work. Only gaining the attention of one of them when she approached the desk, she had to stand up on her toes to see the woman better. “Hi, I’m here to see Katsuki?”
The woman had visible surprise on her face at the use of Bakugou’s first name, cocking her head to the side a bit. “I’m sorry, but hes in a meeting at this time with his Public Relations Manager. Were you… Did you have a meeting with him as well?”
Koge felt a twinge of annoyance at the mention of the PR person, giving a small cough to clear her throat. “I’m his wife. He’s expecting me.”
“I’m sorry, Ma’am, but--”
“Yeah, no buts. Buzz me in, please.” Koge started towards the large doors that she assumed were the entrance, stopping at them when they still did not open. She glared over her shoulder at the women, who were glancing between themselves in confusion. “Buzz me in. Believe me, he likes me a lot more than caring about the slight inconvenience it would take to replace you.”
The woman that had spoken to her first gave a small cough to clear her throat, trying to stay firm. “I’m sorry, Ma’am, but his Public Relations Manager stated that they should not be disturbed.”
Koge gave an annoyed click of her tongue. “I’m sure she did. You’re really going to fight with me on this one, huh?” Placing both cups of coffee down on a small decorative table that rested at the edge of the doors, she pulled out her phone.
Me 3:32 PM: Your little brats out here won’t let me in. They say your PR lady told them to not let anyone in.
Within the minute, the doors opened, an obviously annoyed Bakugou standing in the doorway. His glare was immediately locked on the women at the desk, who shifted about nervously in their chairs. The main one spoke up, quickly standing to show him respect. “I-I’m sorry, sir, it’s just that Ms. Ito--”
“I don’t care what she said. I gave you permission to let this woman in, did I not?” Bakugou approached Koge, noticing the coffee and picking it up for her. “Yours?” He addressed her directly, his expression softening. Koge smiled, giving a small nod. “And yours.”
The woman at the desk he had addressed gave a low bow. “I’m sorry, Sir! It won’t happen again!” Bakugou started back through the large doors, Koge at his heels. “We’ll discuss it later.” Koge didn’t have time to see the reactions of the women as the doors snapped shut behind them, looking up at her lover curiously. “Are they new?”
Bakugou sighed, giving a nod as they made their way down a small hallway, which displayed his awards, trophies, paper certificates and permits. “Yes. Well, a few months at least. But they are scared of Ito. Everyone here thinks she’s vice president or some shit when she’s literally only the PR person. Irritates me.” In his frustration, he brought up one of the cups of coffee, taking a sip before Koge could tell him it was the wrong one. The cringe that crossed his features as he swallowed the bitter black water made her giggle, and he quickly handed the cup to her. “Ugh, fuck that shit is gross!”
Laughing, Koge took the cup, watching as he downed a large gulp of his coffee to rid himself of the taste. “Aw, it is not. Yours is the one that’s gross.” Bakugou shook his head, giving a satisfied hum. “No way, it’s good. Thanks.” He held the ID that hung around his neck up to a sensor, the door opening for them. Once open, Koge’s gaze immediately landed on the obviously flustered woman that stood beside a large dry erase board, impatiently tapping her foot.
Koge couldn’t believe how much she wanted to kick this womans ass, just from looking at her. Sure, she knew that anyone who worked so directly with Bakugou needed to be strong willed and stubborn, but this woman wasn’t just that. She truly was the definition of a bitch.
“Sir, please, this really can’t wait.” Ito addressed Bakugou the instant he returned, pointing a marker to the board to bring attention to her writing. “I need you to approve these appointments so that I can get them paid for and scheduled.” Bakugou sighed, placing his coffee down on his desk before glaring at the annoying white board that he hated. “Why do you have to bring that stupid board in here? I hate looking at things on it, why can’t you just give it to me digitally.”
“This is the best way for me to explain myself to you, and I can easily put posters or flyers on the back side for you to see. It’s not the same when looking at them digitally.” The woman adjusted her glasses, tapping the board with her marker. “Just come read these ideas and let me know what you think.”
Koge read the information on the board as she removed her outer layers of clothing, setting them down on a couch against the wall. “He said that he would prefer the information digitally. Don’t you think you should listen to your boss?” Ito shot a sharp glare at her, tapping her nails against the plastic of the marker in her hand. “I know what works best for him, I’ve been doing this job for ten years, three of them being for this firm. I’d appreciate you keeping your comments to yourself.”
Bakugou shared a glance with Koge that told her to keep it down, to which she begrudgingly agreed with a huff. Arms crossing over her chest, she let them rest on her swollen belly, making her way closer to Bakugou’s desk as he read aloud what was on the board.
“Poster series… Blankets and shit…. More magazine stuff? No--” Bakugou shook his head, moving around the desk to his chair. “After the last magazine shoot, I don’t want to do that shit again.” He pulled the chair out from under the desk, motioning for Koge to sit. She did so happily, leaning back in the plush leather that comfortably supported her aching back. “Oh god, that last magazine thing was terrible! When they were done it didn’t even look like him.” Koge reached up to take his hand gently, which he allowed. “He looked better in the one before that, but… It was so saucy we couldn’t even show our son, who has been excited that his dad is in magazines since he knew what they were.”
Ito cleared her throat, removing Koge’s chance to speak again. “The last magazine was a huge hit. Another series is in serious demand, the public want more of that content.” Koge narrowed her eyes, a bit suspicious of this. “The public… or women? You do realize that Katsuki’s main demographic is teenage and young adult males, right?”
“The men go for the interviews and the women go for the pictures. If it makes money and doesn’t ruin his image, than it works.” Ito grabbed the top of the whiteboard, pulling it down so that the other side was visible. Koge let out a sharp laugh, annoyed and amused at the mock posters and photographs taped to the board. “Doesn’t ruin his image? Do you even realize how those types of things make him look?” With quite a bit of effort, she stood, waddling her way towards the board to see the images better.
Bakugou took her place in the chair, rubbing his temple. “Koge, it’s alright, it does work.” With a shake of her head, his lover pointed to one of the posters that had him displayed in a provocative pose, with just his mask on as the image stopped right at his hips. “No. This doesn’t even look like you at all. Look how skinny! You’re not thin like that.”
“What? I’m not fat—“
“That’s not what I’m saying! You’re… you’re buff Katsuki, you’re not a rail like this. I’m not saying you’re fat. But you’re body doesn’t look like this.” Koge looked up at Ito, the woman towering over her. “Why do you let them photoshop him so much?”
Ito gave a small huff, looking away from Koge, as if she were an eyesore. “I have no control over what the magazine company wants to do.”
“Not true, you have to approve it, like you are now. Katsuki, you haven’t noticed that?” Koge looked over towards her husband, who looked like he was about to throw them both out. “I don’t usually give a shit. I don’t notice how much they change me, if they do.”
“They do. I don’t know why they would. This is so much better.” Koge moved her finger to another poster, of Bakugou in mid battle. “This is how he should look. All scuffed up, angry and strong. He’s not a little sissy boy.”
Ito shook her head, pointing to a number above the sexier poster. “Look at this number, it’s higher than the one for that poster. That means that this style is more sought after—“
“By that demographic. By young adult women and teenage girls.” Koge made her way back over to Bakugous desk, opening a marketing binder that rested there. “You have numbers in here I’m sure and percentages based on different groups of people…” Bakugou watched her, but didn’t intervene. “Hm, you’re right, Koge. I’m pretty sure that eighty seven percent of my fan base isn’t into that shit.”
“They’re not! They can’t be—“ Koge was cut off by Ito snatching the binder back, holding it to her chest. “That’s company data! You can’t look at this.”
“I’ll have you know she can.” Bakugou snapped back. “Who do you think helps me with numbers and making decisions? I trust her more than a room of CEO air heads any day. Show her your numbers, I’m interested in what she’s talking about.”
“But Sir—“
“Fine, then let me see them.” He held his hand out towards her, to which Ito reluctantly handed the binder over. Bakugou flipped though it for a minute as Koge came around the desk to join him, putting an arm around his shoulders. “I’m pretty positive that data is being pulled from demographic percentages depending on age, gender and location. Here, see.” Koge put an accusing finger on a chart. “Eighty seven percent of women from age sixteen to twenty three want more of that photoshop nonsense. But that age group is only thirty something percent of your fan base.”
Koge gave Ito a glance, noticing that she wasn’t going to give in to this. “I think you’re trying to cater to a group of people that doesn’t really matter all that much. Or maybe…” She placed her hand on the top of Bakugou’s head, ruffling his hair gently. “Maybe to things that you want to see, huh?” Ito’s face instantly flushed red. “What?! Who do you think you are, to say something like that to me! That is absolutely ridiculous!”
“I don’t think it is. I think you’re taking advantage of his ignorance when it comes to the marketing side of his brand. That’s why he hired you, because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He may be smart, but he has no time to deal with that type of nonsense.” Koge moved her hand down to Bakugou’s back, a bit surprised that he was so quiet about all of this. “You say you know what’s best for him? You aren’t even listening to what he wants, what he likes, or even what the majority of his demographic wants.”
Heading back to the board, Koge pointed at the image of him in battle. “Look at this. Look at how both sexy and strong he looks. His body is completely unedited, his costume is a bit ripped in places. He’s sweaty and grungy and that glare is enough to make the ladies need to change their underwear. But that is a woman looking at it. A man, or a young boy aspiring to be a hero, would look at this and think, he looks so cool. So badass. So strong. Okay sure, some men might fight him sexy and a lot of women will find him powerful.” She shared an amused glance with her lover, who only glared at her with his ears red in embarrassment.
“You release that?” She gestured to the more sexual image, disgust crossing her features. “You’re only going to hit a small percentage of his fan base. But this?” Again, she slapped her entire palm over the more powerful poster. “You release this and you will hit everyone. Because this is sexy and powerful. If you respected him and his image, you wouldn’t be making him do the sex appeal thing.” Koge let out a long breath, feeling a bit winded from her ranting. “He might be attractive, but not in that type of way. That’s more of a pretty-boy type of thing.”
Ito shook her head, hands firmly on her hips. “I don’t agree. I think you just don’t want your husband half naked out for the world to see.” Koge sputtered an amused laugh, both hands on her stomach as the child inside wiggled about. “Listen lady, I could care less what other women see of him. Because only I get the full show. Get it? That man on the poster isn’t even my Katsuki. It’s a fake. Where are his scars? They even smoothed out some of the muscle lines to make him look less muscular!” Koge glared up at the taller women, who finally seemed on the edge of breaking.
“You have no right to come in here and criticize me for doing my job.”
“But you’re not doing your job. You know, I don’t like you.” Koge made her way back over to Bakugou, who stood and once again gave her his chair to sit, which she accepted gladly. “Ever since Katsuki hired you. For petty things at first, like at one point I was really upset that you and him were constantly going on trips. I was jealous that you got to see him all the time when I didn’t. But now, I just realize that you’re awful.” She took a sip of her coffee, glad to see that it was still warm. “It’s so obvious that you’re taking advantage of his ignorance of what needs to be done for his image. I’m not going to let you do that to him.”
Ito was red faced now, completely flustered and embarrassed at being called out. Koge didn’t care. But, she also didn’t want to cause discourse in Bakugous firm.
“But… I will admit that on the things that don’t involve him with his tits out, you do very well. The meet ‘n greets, the autographs, his book, his interviews, they’re all fantastic. So you do know how to do your job. I truly think that this is just a hiccup driven by personal desire.” Koge closed the binder in front of her, pushing it back over towards Ito, who was staring at Koge in surprise.
“You can have a crush on my husband all you want.” Koge spoke quite curt, planning on getting her point across the first time. “But you won’t have him. So if that was your goal, this little sexy series? I truly hope it stops here. Every once in a while, sure, let him model underwear for an ad because he’s got a nice butt. I won’t be quiet the next time I see him being degraded like that.” She looked up at Bakugou, who was staring down at her with intense focus. She gave him a small smile, effectively breaking him out of his daze. “Do you agree with me, Katsuki?”
Bakugou turned his crimson glare to Ito, who was standing there red faced and leaking guilt. “This is something I just didn’t even notice… I just thought it was all normal, I hear about that half and half bastard doing this shit, and even Deku.” Koge nodded, opening one of his drawers to peek into it curiously. “Mhmm, but that’s a part of their look. Of their brand. They’re pretty boys. You are raw power, Katsuki. Believe me, women find that just as attractive as your fake photoshopped abs.” She pulled out a stress ball that resembled his gauntlets, beginning to squeeze it and pass it between both hands. “I love these. Another good decision you helped make, Ito.”
Ito only gave a small nod. “I won’t let it happen again. But… these are already almost finished contracts. We can’t back out of them, now, these companies will never work with us again.” Bakugou sighed, moving to stroke Koge’s hair gently as he thought. Then, as she looked up at him, an idea crossed his mind.
“Koge. We’ve never done anything, have we?”
“Eh?” Koge felt a bit of heat rush to her cheeks, giving a small shake of her head. “N-no…” Bakugou looked back over towards Ito, nodding to motion her to come over. “Change the contacts, to do do a family shoot and interviews.” Koge took his hand, a bit of worry creasing her brow. “Are you sure? Is that safe?”
“No one knows where we live, not even the people that work here. I want to do it, with you and Matsu.” He held her hand tightly, the excited interest on his face filling Koge’s stomach with butterflies. Smiling she kissed the back of his hand. “Okay. Let’s do it, then.”
As Ito came up to take her binder, Bakugou put his hand on it, stopping her. “Make it happen, Ito. Though, we will have to discuss your behavior further. I can’t just let it go.” Ito nodded, taking her binder when Bakugou released it. “Yes, sir. I’ll have the contact sent to you digitally for review. Thank you for… not firing me right off the bat.”
“I wouldn’t want him to fire you.” Koge spoke up, catching the womans attention. “Like I said, you do your job well. All of this that he has is with your help. But you gotta stop the thirst.”
“Y-yes, Ma’am. I don’t want to be rude, but… for someone so small, you’re kind of scary.”
“I’m married to Katsuki. I have to be a little scary, right?”
“I suppose…” With another bow, the woman left with her dry erase board in tow, the wheels making an annoying squeak as they rolled. When she was finally gone, Koge sighed, turning the chair to face Bakugou. “Holy shit, Katsuki, what was that creature.”
Bakugou scoffed, leaning over the chair a bit, gripping the arm rests for support. “Utsuro, that is what is known as a woman with a huge crush on the big boss who’s married and is still trying to get into his pants.”
“She’s icky. I’m sorry, I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.”
“You were right, though. Thanks.” He placed a kiss on the top of her head, moving his hands to caress her belly. “How’s she?” Koge placed her hands over his, smile crossing her lips. “She’s great, Katsuki. She’s been a little wiggly thing all day, though.” Bakugou nodded, able to feel the child against his palms. “It’s because you’re all worked up. How about a tour?”
“I’d like that, Katsuki. After a kiss. Or two.”
“Or ten.”
“You know me too well.”
OKAY. today was pretty nuts but almost entirely in a good way. I had set my alarm for 10 but ended up waking up at 9:30. I still hadn’t gotten a call back from the people about the cat yet so I called them and they picked up. I did a short “phone interview” then where I was asked questions that seemed like questions but actually weren't lol because they’d be like “do you plan to keep her inside or let her go inside and outside?” and I was like “oh probably just inside, I live in an apartment building” and they were like “good, outside is too busy in the city” and then basically the same thing about declawing, I knew it was bad and said as much and they very emphatically agreed. So we decided we’d go there at 11 and check out what the situation is. at this point when I get off the phone it’s like 9:40, I’ve been texting Jess all through this so when I got off I was like okay let’s get breakfast and then we can walk over to where they are because they’re legit in walking distance of our apartments, lol, so we got breakfast at our usual place (I decided I was going to abandon my approach of trying everything and just got the banana bread french toast again, which was very good. at like 10:47 we started walking, not terribly far to a house a few blocks west that had a cat flag out front, lol, so we knew it was the right one. so we rang the doorbell but didn’t hear it and we were like oh did it go? But a minute later a woman came and opened the door and welcomed us in. It smelled very strongly of cat, which is probably to be expected because apparently they had a shitton of cats both inside and outside. They seemed to have all their stuff together like regulation and code wise though so I wasn't worried about it being a bad environment. the kitty we had asked about was right there in the front room and immediately warmed up to us and was letting us pet her, and even sat in my lap at one point. according to the people there she was very friendly and had no major issues, she’d already been vaccinated and spayed and microchipped and all that good stuff so she was good to go. Apparently she’d been one of a litter of kittens that had come there earlier in the summer to be adopted and she had originally been placed with a family who really loved her, but at some point (I’m not sure how much time passed that she was actually with them) the man’s mother became ill and had to move in with them, and she was highly allergic to cats, so they had to “tearfully” return the kitty, so she was the last one left now with mostly older cats. she seemed good to me so we planned to walk back to Jess’ place and take her car to petsmart where we would buy all the things we needed while they got all the adoption papers ready, then come back and pick her up. so we headed out and drove to the petsmart that wasn’t terribly far away from us, so we set out to get all the things we would need. a litter box and kitty litter, obviously, I had food and water dishes and an old brush we could use so we were good on that, apparently they’d been feeding her a combo of wet and dry food because its been shown that cats who eat only dry food are more likely to develop kidney problems apparently (and like, we just lost our yorkie to kidney problems) so we got both wet and dry food, along with a small scratching post, a soft carrier that’s basically like a duffel bag but with netted fabric so you could see the cat and she could breathe obviously, and it was good for like airports and trains and shit. we got one toy thing, and then a collar and a tag, which they had this giant machine that was supposed to do the engraving on the tags after you bought them. So we got this cute one that says “hello my name is _____” on the front and then planned to put my phone number on the back. so we buy everything, then go to the engraving machine and have it scan the barcode for the tag- but oh wait, it’s not scanning.....not scanning....try again, still not scanning. so we’re like huh. so we got an employee who continued to try to get it to scan to no avail, then tried to take it into like employee mode or whatever and ended up having to like, open the entire thing up to reset it and at this point there was us and another girl who happened to also be getting a cat today and was waiting for it to work lol so we waited and it rebooted and they were like yeah, we don’t know how long it’s going to take.....and we were prepared to leave for another petsmart because apparently they all have the machines, but just as we were walking out it restarted and was working so we ran back in and started to use it. we had to open the little door and stick the tag around a little raised section that went through where the hole on the top is, then when it recognizes the tag you type in the info you want and it engraves! so I hadn’t mentioned up to this point what we were actually planning on naming our kitty, but we basically decided we wanted a kitty named NICKZANO, spelled just like that, one word and all caps, because that’s how the human Nick Zano’s twitter handle is. I figured we could use “Nicky” as a nickname and tell that to people who aren't legends stans and wouldn’t understand why a kitty named NICKZANO is fucking hilarious. So we got it engraved so it says “hello, my name is NICKZANO” on the front and then my phone number on the back, which was really fucking hilarious honestly. we got everything in the car and drove back over to the house, signed some papers and sent them a donation through paypal, then got the kitty and stuck her in our carrier and headed out! unsurprisingly, kitty was not terribly happy about being put in a bag and taken away by strangers, and she meowed basically the whole ride back to my place, which thankfully was only a few minutes lol. So we grabbed what we could and took her upstairs, let her out and let her explore the apartment a little, then went back to the car to grab the rest of the stuff. bad plan. we got back up to my apartment and.....kitty was nowhere to be found. there were no windows open, no doors open, no way she could’ve gotten out, so she HAD to be in the apartment, but we looked and looked and looked and looked and could not find her for our lives, at which point I was like WELP she’s gotta come out sooner or later so we tried to stop stressing about it (probably not terribly successful at doing so) and watched Brandon’s fireman cat movie on the logic that maybe hearing other cats in the movie would help her come out? or something like that, lol. the movie was actually really cute, and of course Brandon looked amazing as a firefighter, which I’m sure is not a surprise to literally anybody. so when that was over I was like okay, let’s regroup and do some more searching. I had checked under my bed before and hadn’t seen anything, but I thought if I pulled my bed away from the wall (it’s in the southeast corner of my room currently if you’re standing in the door) so I pulled it away from the walls and then suddenly heard a “meow” and I was like AHAH! GOTCHA! so we were able to coax her out and got her out of my bedroom, then closed the doors to the bedrooms and bathroom so she could stay in the main area with us, which probably would’ve been the smart thing to do all along, but hey, we’re new at this. she started to become more sociable and played with us a bit, she went ahead and used the litter box without any prompting being needed by us which I was relieved about because the prospect of having to clean up anything that didn’t make it to the littler box was probably my biggest concern at that point, lol. we had had a conversation at the petsmart with an employee over the types of kitty litter, apparently at the place they had been using pellets which doesn’t like clump together but instead you basically just have to toss the whole batch of it after a while which doesn’t sound terribly practical, so we went with the clumping clay-based one instead, but were somewhat concerned to see if she would transition to it okay, and she did, so that was a relief. we kind of settled down after a bit and Jess wanted to show me “Fling”, a movie starring Brandon and Courtney, some sort of indie film they decided to do not long after getting married and well. this movie was....something. I’ve seen a lot of odd and quirky movies and indie films over the years, mainly in college because I hung out with all film majors most of the time and they love their quirky movies. but this one was....unique, to say the least. the basic premise is that Courtney’s character is in an open relationship with this guy, and she starts seeing Brandon’s character while the guy she’s in a relationship with starts seeing his best friend’s 18 year old sister, which as I’m sure you can imagine goes horribly wrong, Courtney’s character ends up pregnant and not sure whose child it actually is but basically decides to leave her original boyfriend to be with Brandon (which was a good choice because her original boyfriend was shitty) and then it ends with “five years later” boyfriend gets an invitation to the opening party of a boutique owned by Courtney, so he comes and he sees them all, and he sees there kid and like......that child looks overwhelmingly more like boyfriend than he does Brandon. like it was obvious they specifically cast him for that reason. So the boyfriend’s just kinda like WELP and leaves and that’s pretty much the endV of it. So yeah...unique. after that we discussed what we wanted to watch and decided on Superman Returns because I hadn’t seen it in like at least 10 years and didn’t have that great of a memory of it, I remember watching it at our family friend’s home theatre (and they have a VERY serious home theatre) during a party at some point (they have a big italian family so the parties are frequent) and basically just remembered Lois’ kid is actually Superman’s son because he shows he has powers at some point. I’ve obviously become much more familiar with Superman lore since I’d last seen the movie given that I got entirely obsessed with Smallville, so I’m a lot more invested in the characters and such much more. A lot of characters can be done justice by different interpretations, such as Jimmy Olsen who has been played by a lot of great actors, but for me nobody will ever be as good as Michael Rosenbaum as Lex and Erica Durance as Lois. Rosenbaum’s Lex was just perfect in every way. we got to see his entire transition from actually being a good hearted person to very intentionally choosing a path of villainy, often spurred on by Clark continually lying to him about his identity. As for Lois, god Durance just had the perfect rapport and attitude for Lois, she embodied her so well, and her dialogue and relationship with Clark was spot on. When Supergirl was casting Superman some people wanted it to be Tom Welling, but it would obviously have to be a different Superman than Tom Welling’s one on Smallville because it’s an entirely different world and like, I wouldn’t want that, I would want him to be the character he actually established. Erica Durance as Lois and Michael Rosenbaum as Lex are characters I’d 100% be okay with them portraying in different universes, because they just embody them so well, and nobody can ever match them IMO. But I say all this to say that while the actors in Superman Returns did a fine job, many of them just didn’t stack up to my opinion of the characters and how they should be portrayed. It sucks that Brandon didn’t get a better quality Superman story to work with, because his portrayal of Clark Kent is spot on, and with a better script and better external factors he could’ve been absolutely stunning. Apparently now that Henry Cavill is supposedly not coming back as Superman, some people want Brandon to play him again, and apparently Brandon likes this idea quite a bit lol. I doubt that would happen though. But anyway, this movie. I completely forgot Kevin Spacey was Lex, and he was pretty meh for me. Lois was alright I guess, she didn’t quite have the journalistic prowess that is so emblematic and iconic of Lois as a character. the story is really like 75% exposition up until the actual climax, where Lois for some reason takes her like 5 year old child on a secret mission to infiltrate Lex’s boat and ends up getting them stranded and basically volunteered to be hostages. the best scene really though is when the little boy is playing the piano and got the henchman to join him for a second while Lois tries to send a fax with their coordinates, then the henchman sees and he attacks her, and the little box starts breathing heavily (it was already established he has asthma) and looks like he’s going into an asthma attack, then all of a sudden the entire damn piano goes flying across the room, crushing the henchman who was attacking Lois. And like, there’s just this moment afterwards when everyone (audience included) is just like oh shit, did that really just happen?? And it’s really such an epic scene to realize that he’s actually Superman’s son. The rescue at the end and all of that is also very cool of course. but yeah, I enjoyed it, even if I am somewhat critical. After that finished Jess had to leave, so it was just me and NICKZANO for a bit. I started watching more episodes of the baking show I started on netflix a few days ago and NICKZANO did random funny things which I took pictures of. She curled up in my lap at one point which was really damn cute. Some time after 10 my roommate got home, and she was of course enthralled with the cat as well, and was able to move one of the lower pantry shelves so her litter box could fit in there perfectly which is much better than it just sticking out. She said she keeps seeing all these DIY pinterest posts about making stuff for cats like scratching post-bed-climbing things so she might try to make some of that. Then she got in the shower and I started writing this, paused midway to take a shower myself, then came back and finished it and here we are. I know that was a lot of details already so I won’t keep you any longer, plus it’s 1 am and I’d like to be asleep now. Goodnight my dears. Have a lovely Thursday.
Newt Scamander Imagine 3 soulmate au
In which people who have a soulmate will see whatever is written/drawn on each other’s skin.
Newt remembered the first time any marks from his soulmate had turned up on his skin. Of course he had tried to connect with whomever it was before, but there had always been no response. Eventually he just assumed he didn’t have a soulmate.
But one day when he was in potions class during the beginning of 6th year, he was giving a presentation on how to make Amortentia (due to the fact that he had skipped class the day before to sneak into the forbidden forest and this was part of his punishment) when someone from the back of the room yelled out, “Woah!! What’s on your hand?”
Newt stopped and looked over at the short, blond haired boy with large glasses confused before holding up his hand to see what all the astonished looks were about. His hand was covered, front and back, with black ink that drew out flowers and swirls and intricate designs. He pulled down he sleeve and watched as slowly, another flower was being drawn on his wrist on its own. Only, it wasn’t appearing on its own. His fantastic soulmate was drawing the art on his/her arm, which was appearing on Newts.
“Damn!” one girl yelled out, “Your soulmate has some skills!!”
“I have a soulmate,” Newt whispered to himself, “I thought I would die alone and i have a soulmate!”
“Ah, thank you, but shall we return to the potion,” to Professor interjected, giving Newt a glare for disrupting the class.
Newt nodded, his spirits lifted immensely, and rolled his sleeve all the way up so he could watch the illustrations growing on his arm from the corner of his eye while continuing the demonstration.
———
You rolled up your sleeve further to continue the flowers and designs your were drawing with ink when you heard your name.
"Y/n?"
"Y-yes?" you said, snapping out of a daze.
"What do you think?"
You laughed nervously, "Oh, um, ha, could you repeat the question?"
Professor Rose sighed, "Y/n, if you are incapable of focusing during my lessons maybe it would be wise of me to confiscate the quill that distracts you."
You put the quill down, "No! I swear, I'll listen!"
The Professor gave you a skeptical look but turned and continued the lecture. You sighed in relief and sat back in your chair before turing back to your friend Queenie.
"Y/n! Pay attention!" she whisper-yelled.
You rolled your eyes thinking 'fine, I guess I won't tell you about my soulmate.'
Her eyes went wide and she smiled, "You never told me you had a soulmate??!!"
"Miss Goldstein!"
Queenie winced and looked up, "Sorry Professor."
"Perhaps you and Miss y/l/n would like to take this conversation outside? And then come talk to me when class is over?"
You and Queenie glanced at each other before gathering your things and going to sit in the hallway.
"Tell me everything!!" Queenie was beyond exited.
You laughed, "Alright, alright. So whoever it is has tried to contact me a couple of times but I haven't responded-"
“Why?"
"Oh, because-"
"Oh you don't want to 'tempt fate'? That's foolish, don't you want to know them? Oh you do but you want to meet in person normally?"
"Well, anyways, I was drawing on my arm in class instead of my paper and look what they wrote!!"
You showed Queenie your bicep proudly, which displayed the words 'you're a bloody amazing artist!!'
Queenie smiled, "Aw how cute! But what's with the 'bloody'?"
"I don't know. I read in a book that brits say that. Do you think they could be British?"
"Yeah, why not?"
"God, I'm going to have to wait forever to meet them then."
"Don't worry honey, it'll feel like no time has passed when you meet them."
----------
You walked into the living room of the apartment you had spent the night in wearing nothing but your undergarments. Queenie smiled as she was magically tending to both of your outfits for the day. You were about to ask where Tina was when the door opened and she slipped in, two men following her. You stood up, shocked.
"Teenie! You brought men home!"
"Tina!" you sounded much less enthusiastic than Queenie and more alarmed, "You brought men home?!"
 She nodded, "Why don't you two put something on."
You were still in disbelief at the strange round man wandering around, seemingly lost in his own world.
"Is he okay?" You asked no one in particular.
"Got bitten by a murtlap," the other man responded.
"Isn't that harmful to no-maj- woah."
You looked up only to be meet with a shockingly handsome face with bright eyes and countless freckles. The stranger gave a weak smile and you heard Queenie giggle in the background.
"I'm Newt."
"Y/n," you responded, still in awe.
You looked down after a moment and realized you still weren't properly dressed.
"I-I should-"
"Yeah."
You walked over to Queenie and grabbed your clothes.
She elbowed you and whispered, "Y/n! Remember, I know what you're thinking, you naughty girl/boy!"
You shot her an angry look and slipped away, going to get dressed and collect yourself before returning to the main room.
-----------------------
 You and Newt had become very true friends, and you couldn't wait for him to return back to New York with his newly published book. You had developed some feelings for him, but you tried your best to shoo them away, falling for your best friend was a one-way ticket to HeartBrokenville. The only person who knew of your feelings was Queenie, and only because it was impossible to hide things from her. Finally, after what seemed like hours, there was a knock on the door if Queenie and Tina's apartment. You stood up, filled with excitement, and Queenie gave you a knowing look before following Tina to answer the door.
"Hello." You heard Newt's sweet voice and you couldn't help but grin.
 He greeted Tina and Queenie and before turning in your direction.
"Y/n," he spoke your name breathlessly, as though he had been incapable of speaking or breathing or living until he saw you.
You flashed a smile.
"Newt."
He opened his arms and you ran into them, "It's been too long, Newtie!"
Newt laughed, "I missed you too, love."
You pulled away, "So... Let me see it!"
He smiled and held up the book, the bright orange cover making everything else in the room-aside from Newt's proud smile- seem dull.
You took it in your hands and felt the cover, "It's beautiful! I love the smell of a new book!"
Newt laughed, "I hope you'll buy it for more than just the smell."
You faked contemplation, "Nah, that's it."
Newt rolled his eyes and you pushed his arm gently.
"I'm kidding, don't worry. But I am serious when I say I am so proud of you!"
Newt's face turned red. "T-thank you, y/n."
 --------------------
You could hear the laughter coming from the kitchen in the bathroom. Earlier you had excused yourself to freshen up before Newt's welcome home dinner, but had become somewhat side-tracked looking at your face in the mirror, you looked over at the quill on the desk in the connecting room and back in the mirror. Wouldn't it be kinda neat to draw on your face and neck? You could make it look like a tree was growing up your neck and around your face, then wash it off before dinner. Yeah, that would be super neat! You hadn't drawn on your own skin since Illvermorny years, but it was worth a shot! Besides, you'd had plenty of practice drawing on paper. You dipped the tip in in and began drawing on your neck as you looked in the mirror. You had gotten a little past your chin with the branches and leaves when your ears tuned in to the commotion coming from the living room. You heard shocked tones and rushed words turning into arguing. You didn't take the time to drop the quill and rushed out to make sure everyone was okay. Newt was looking in the mirror and Queenie, Tina, and Jacob were huddled around him, all shouting suggestions to a distressed Newt.
"Just wash it off!" Tina recommend.
"Leave it for a moment!" Queenie interjected.
"Will you get ink poisoning?" Jacob asked Newt with concern, putting a hand on his shoulder.
You remained confused and speechless for a moment before yelling, "What on earth is going on?"
All four turned to you in a rush to explain themselves before pausing.
You sighed, "Look, I was going to wash it off before I came back but then I heard all the commotion and-"
"Y/n," Queenie interupted, "Look at Newt."
Your eyes made contact with his and you noticed the black in his neck.
Branches, leaves, and flowers were delicately drawn all the way up to his chin, identical to yours. You remained speechless and looked down at the quill before looking back up at Newt. You took the quill while watching his face and dragged in down your cheek, watching an identical mark paint itself on Newt's face.
"It's you," you both said in unison.
Newt and laughed, almost in disbelief, "How lucky can a man get?"
You smiled, "I guess this would be a good time to say I love you."
He took in a breath, "Good idea."
You laughed, joy ringing through the gentle melody coming from your moth, and ran to Newt, who was ready to pull you into a hug and spin you around before looking into your eyes, "I think, deep down, I always knew it was you, y/n y/l/n."
You smiled, "I may not have guessed you were my soulmate, but hell, I knew I was in love with you."
He laughed and smashed his lips against yours. You pulled apart and noticed your three awe-struck friends. Queenie winked and looked back and forth between the two of you, "Why don't you two go wash that ink off, maybe a shower would work?"
"Queenie!" Newt scolded and blushed.
 "Honey, you're both thinking it!"
