👌No. This isn't keto. The thing about keto is you heal your insulin. What does that mean? It means if you do plan a high carb day, your metabolic system cleans it up out of your bloodstream very quickly because your cells no longer see insulin as a threat. . The thing about Keto and healing your insulin, is that you become metabolically flexible. Meaning, you can easily move back and forth from burning ketones to burning glucose as needed. Like our ancestors who didn't have berries or grain all the time and ate mostly meat and fat. . I maintain a low carb/keto & carnivore lifestyle 99% of the time. But I have enjoyed an occasional "regular" or high carb meal once or twice in the last couple years, and have no regrets. It's a learning process that turns into a lifestyle. . A lot of people think that they can be keto during the week and eat high carb every weekend, but, many studies have shown that those people I barely getting back into ketosis by the next Friday and then they're back eating carbs again Friday night, so eating higher carbs regularly just isn't worth it to me. But, once in a blue moon for a planned celebratory day is good. It's a lifestyle, not a crash diet you do in splurges, causing yoyo weightloss effects. . For women, it's actually healthy to eat 100-150 net carbs (whole food net carbs, which is not what's pictured) on their menstrual cycle day number 20 or number 21, or for some it's menstrual cycle day number one or two. So if you are keto and female, consider some research into carb cycling or check out Rachel Gregorys podcast on how doing this helps your cycle come to fruition. . It's all about metabolic health, not just weightloss, not the number on the scale, not your waste size. Do you clean up the carbs you eat quickly? Blog of the week: Yo-yo Dieting 🪀🪀🪀 Ever been to a mountain side for a trek, walk or a bicycle ride? It’s always difficult to make the climb but easier to descend. Yo Yo diet is also similar. Weight loss leads to a diminished appetite and causes the body to cling to its energy stores. As a result, some yo-yo dieters gain back more weight than they lost.With each turn of the cycle, it takes longer to lose the same amount of weight. Yoyo dieting in sedentary individuals is simply the result of a decreased metabolism from the muscle loss during dieting and a lack of lifestyle change, not “metabolic damage. Someone who is on a diet and decides to go off it and restarts intake of energy that made them fat in the first place, their decreased metabolism due to diet actually causes them to end up with more fat mass. Your hunger-satiation patterns have probably been conditioned by years of intermittent yoyo interventions. Leptin is a hormone that is important in regulating your energy balance and appetite. It is secreted by fat cells, so a decrease in body fat stores comes with a decrease in leptin levels, which means your energy expenditure goes down and your appetite increases. Refeeds combat this adaptation process of your body by tricking the brain into believing you are well nourished without gaining body fat and thereby keeping your metabolism up during an energy deficit. Poor sleep also lowers the leptin since leptin is produced during sleep. Getting 5-6 hrs of good sleep can cause your satiety hormone leptin to drop. Slow the pace of eating, try and practise mindful eating, savour the food, eat slowly, and sense the taste, smell, and texture of the food, stay hydrated, reduce stress. These are some of the ways to practise a healthy lifestyle and prevent weight gain. Food fads and misinformation are increasingly popular. Avoid fad diets. It’s not just what you eat that matters, it’s also when you eat. Important aspects of a weight reduction program is changing food behaviours and increase physical activity. I get a lot of questions about Intermitinet Fasting. People want to know what I think about it and if they should use it as a way to eat in order to lose weight. For some, it works well and fits perfectly into their lifestyle but others seem to struggle and yo-yo between overeating and forcing themselves back into an IF routine. If you find yourself falling into the group of people who really struggle to stick with intermittent fasting I want you to ask yourself the following questions. When I am fasting do I feel tired and/or irritable? Do I find myself eating more than I normally would when my fast is over? Why do I think I NEED to fast to lose weight? Do I feel guilty for not being able to stick to this new lifestyle? Really look at and analyze your answers to these questions. Are your answers in alignment with the life you want to live and the person you want to become? If that answer is no then it’s time to find a sustainable solution that works best for you.
