#with an awareness that she is not special for wanting steve to like her
Text
The thing about Peggy is, she doesn’t even like Steve?
She patronises him. She sexually assaults him. She stalks him. She shows him compassion only for as long as it looks like her efforts to attach him will be successful, but the instant it looks like her efforts have failed she violently attacks him and sneers at his dreams.
(How could she be so vicious and so dismissive so easily, if she actually liked him? Shouldn’t she be heartbroken? It’s not the wounded relationship that matters to her; it’s the wounded pride. Steve could’ve dropped down dead, at that moment, and she wouldn’t miss a wink of sleep.)
She dines out off having slightly known Steve, despite never dating him, and yet is enraged when people point it out.
(Why is the ass-covering patronage of every other powerful man in her life acceptable, except his?)
She refuses to acknowledge any of his loved ones (shouldn’t they be beloved by her, too?) because she is so desperate to establish herself as the only legitimate connection to him. And yet she colludes with his sworn enemies, across multiple universes, and even lies about it (omits to tell him) to his face, when his life is in danger because of it.
(How could someone do this, if they actually liked him?)
Peggy thinks she is ‘not like the other girls’ who throw themselves at Steve, just because while she is throwing herself at him she also talks to him like he is a child (because that’s how she talks to all men.)
She thinks she is actually better than Steve, since he is a man, and she thinks all men are essentially terrible and that this is feminism. She must be better, even though she acts just like the worst of men, because a thing only counts as bad if a man is doing it (eg. sexual assault) and only counts as good if Peggy is doing it (eg. if actual-feminist Daniel Souza dares to speak up for women in the workplace, she will tell him to shut up. Likewise, her turning a gun on Steve is #Girlbossing but Red Skull and Alexander Pierce doing it is Evil.)
This is why, despite Steve being an internationally famous decorated war hero, a film-star and a heartthrob and the world’s only supersoldier, while Peggy is an unfulfilled unimportant desk jockey... she still turns up to announce that she will one day allow Steve to dance with her, as if she is doing him a favour.
It’s because she sees Steve as essentially the same as before serum -- that is, pathetic (in need of help to get female attention.) Still pathetic, in her eyes.
But since to everyone else Steve has become a prize, she has to take Steve down a peg by reminding him of their little secret -- that despite how great he may seem, she is superior to him -- and she really believes it’s true!
(This belief is baseless. What If accidentally confirmed that she can only match Steve’s accomplishments if she is given serum... so she is not his equal without serum, let alone his superior, despite being born with considerable advantages over him.)
And this treatment of Steve as pathetic, before and after serum, we’re supposed to see as her ‘appreciating him’ for who he really is inside.
But her treatment of Steve is only un-starry-eyed (or so she likes to think) and businesslike because Steve is a man, and she thinks all men are inferior to her. He isn’t special.
(Just as, she is the only woman in the First Avenger, and their big connection is supposed to be over the allegedly-similar discrimination levelled against women as against disabled men... but this is experienced by all women, so saying she’s ‘The’ woman for Steve amounts to saying that she only qualifies for the job because she’s female, and for no other reason.)
The fact is, while Steve pays lip service to the idea of wanting a woman, he never actually acts like he wants a woman.
And does Peggy even want a man?
She comes across as someone who has remained single because her view of herself is so inflated and her view of men is so dim that they can never match up.
It’s like she’s got a reluctant mental shopping list of ‘insanely lofty traits a man would need to have to finally be worthy of Her Majesty,’ and she only awkwardly goes about trying to get Steve at all because she has realised that this famous neatly-pressed hunk Captain America has managed to tick all of the boxes, somehow. He’s a trophy she feels she ought to have, but isn’t really bothered about having.
(But then she gets repeatedly annoyed whenever that pesky little ‘Steve Rogers’ twerp keeps getting in the way of her fantasy, wanting to do the right thing instead of just doing what she tells him, and has to be violently attacked to keep him in line.)
She doesn’t actually like Steve.

Summary: A continuation of this (You're the only Avenger who sleeps in a cell). Now that Wanda has offered to share her room, things get... a bit complicated.
Chapter word count: 2.9k+ | Tags: Mild Angst, Sharing A Bed, Mutual Pining, Wanda catches you in a very compromising position, Unresolved Sexual Tension
Ship: Wanda Maximoff x Gender Neutral Reader
Series Masterlist

Sharing a room with Wanda Maximoff is not as trivial as it sounds.
The first night, her bed seems almost too big, especially for two people who don't know each other very well. Throughout the night, you’re acutely conscious of every movement, ensuring that you remain on your designated side, even if it means dangling one leg off the bed for balance.
On the second night, after realizing she'd unknowingly snuggled up to you during her sleep, she suggests putting a pillow in the middle–kind of like a boundary, you guess. The two of you share a light-hearted chuckle over the idea, yet a rosy hue stubbornly lingers on both your faces until one of you eventually heads out for breakfast.
Nights turn into mornings and that big bed starts feeling, well, not so big anymore. You both take to this pillow-in-the-middle setup, treating it like some sort of teddy bear you both have a claim to. It becomes an unspoken agreement, almost like a cozy buffer that you both secretly enjoy. Both of you would hold onto it, sometimes playfully tugging it toward your side.
On the seventh day, shortly after midnight, you feel a subtle shift as Wanda’s fingers, which were draped over the pillow, find their way to your waist. It's just a slight touch, but it sends your senses into overdrive. And as the fog of drowsiness lifts, you become acutely aware of every point of contact between you two.
The covers, which up until now felt just right, suddenly start to feel oppressively warm. Turning your head slightly, you can make out the silhouette of her face, bathed in the soft light filtering through the curtains. You're struck by the details—the curve of her cheek, the demure slope of her nose, her slightly parted lips. She's mesmerizing. You feel an undeniable urge to reach out and touch, to feel the softness of her skin, but you resist.
You think about shifting her hand back onto the pillow, but then, there's this part of you, perhaps the bolder side, that wants it to stay there. So, you let it stay, taking shallow breaths, hoping your racing heart doesn't wake her up.
You pull the covers tighter around you, trying to shake the thoughts, but it's no use.
All you can think about is the girl sleeping soundly beside you, and the night stretches on endlessly ahead.
-
You were supposed to get your own room, but honestly? It's taking a while, and you're not even sure you want it anymore.
There's something about Wanda's nighttime habits that you've come to love: the way she snores just a bit, the way some of her things would rattle around her when she’s having an intense dream, the scent of her shampoo when she washes her hair before bed, the subtle movements she makes when you know she has a hard time falling asleep.
And there's that special moment each morning: You always seem to stir just moments before her. Like clockwork, her eyes flutter open, and in that half-awake daze, she’d murmur a “Good morning.”
Yet, as this unexpected cohabitation with Wanda unfolds, a nagging thought keeps pricking at the back of your mind:
This delightful domestic bubble has an expiration date.
You know you shouldn't get too attached. But you're probably way past that now.
-
Which is why, to seemingly guard yourself, you pester Steve at dinner.
“So, Steve, any word on my room?” you casually drop the question one evening, trying to keep the tone light. Across the table, Wanda's attention diverts from her lasagna to the conversation at hand, silently watching the exchange.
Steve, looking a tad weary, responds, “Honestly? I'm not sure. And you've brought this up, what, three times today?”
“Maybe if Tony actually replied to my messages, we wouldn't be having this chat every mealtime,” you argue, mindlessly twirling your fork around your pasta.
Before Steve can retort, Wanda intervenes. “If you're worried about overstaying in my space, you haven't. It's been...nice, having you there.”
Your cheeks flame up, a quick surge of heat that’s impossible to ignore. The sudden candidness in her words catches you off guard. For a moment, you're tongue-tied, searching for a response. She, too, seems taken aback by her own candor, her eyes widening a fraction.
“I-I mean, I don't mind…” she says, trying to recover from her prior lapse. She then diverts her attention, a little flustered, burying herself in her plate.
“Maybe we can set up a rota? You know, split the week between Natasha and Wanda's rooms?” Steve suggests.
From across the table, Natasha halts, shawarma in hand, and deadpans, “Since when was my room up for discussion?”
Your focus, however, remains fixed on Wanda. “It's not about that, Wanda,” you reply earnestly. “It’s just... we all need our space, right?”
Something shifts in Wanda's eyes, a flicker of disappointment perhaps, but before you can fully process it, she masks it with indifference. “I'm sorry,” she murmurs, starting to collect her plate with only a few bites missing from her lasagna. “I thought you were in a rush because of... well, me.”
You stare at her, momentarily stunned, with a growing urge to apologize. The dinner table suddenly feels miles long.
Clearing your throat, you muster, “Wanda, it's not like that.”
She pauses, looking back at you, waiting.
“I just thought it might be easier for both of us,” you say, cringing as the words don't quite capture your intended sentiment.
Her face tightens further, her demeanor chilling by several degrees. “You're right,” she replies, voice sharp and edged. “It might be easier for you.”
Without another word, she stands up and leaves.
In the aftermath of Wanda's exit, an oppressive silence descends, punctuated only by the occasional scrape of cutlery on porcelain. Vision, always a touch out of step with human nuances, arches an eyebrow at Bucky. “Is there a particular reason the air's grown so dense?”
Before Bucky can answer, Natasha leans back, shooting you a pointed look.
“By the way,” she drawls, pausing for emphasis. “My room has an exclusive guest list. Only one name on it–mine,” she says and then nonchalantly bites at her meat wrap, clearly having said her piece.
The room's temperature seems to further drop another few degrees following Natasha's remark. Steve shoots you a sympathetic glance while Bucky suppresses a smirk, amused at the drama unfolding.
Trying to bring a semblance of normalcy back, Sam quips, “Well, at this rate, I might start charging for bunking in my room. Any takers?”
You can't help but force a chuckle, silently thanking him for the attempt to lighten the mood. However, Wanda's departure and Natasha’s dry humor leave you pondering whether sharing a room might have been the better option after all.
-
For two nights straight, you avoid the Avenger's compound.
Instead, you dip into your personal savings from past missions, booking yourself into a plush hotel downtown. The suite boasts modern amenities and a bed that critics might describe as 'a cloud'.
Yet, for all its luxury, it feels...empty.
The Egyptian cotton sheets, while soft to the touch, are cold. The lavish bathroom, with its marble counters, feels too sterile. The room, while spacious, feels too silent. Deafeningly so.
Gone are the soft snores, the slight movement of a shared bed, and the comforting scent of Wanda's evening shampoo. All replaced by a void that no amount of luxury can fill. Your heart aches, not for the lack of comfort, but for the lack of connection.
(The lack of a… friend. Maybe after nights of sleeping side by side, it’s fair to think of her as such.)
And as another sleepless night passes in the hotel, you find yourself wishing for the simplicity of that pillow barrier, the steady rhythm of Wanda's breathing, and the tender sound of her voice whispering, “Good morning.”
It's high time to step out of this lavish prison and head back to the compound.
More importantly, it's time to apologize to Wanda, something you should've done in the first place.
-
Pushing open the door to Wanda's room, you anticipate her familiar, mischievous smirk. Instead, a deafening silence surrounds you. The only telltale sign of her absence is the disarray of her belongings, possibly from prepping for an unexpected mission.
You have been looking forward to seeing her all day, unsure if she'd even welcome you back. Just as you consider heading elsewhere to find her, Vision suddenly steps out from a room further down the corridor.
“Wanda’s not here,” you state rather than ask.
“She's still in the debriefing room. The mission ran long, and discussions have been... extensive,” Vision offers, his head tilt subtle but noticeable, making you very much aware of his ability to read more than just your face.
You run a hand through your hair, weary. “Any idea how much longer?”
He seems to ponder, “At the rate they’re going? An hour, maybe more.”
The day's exhaustion settles on you, making your skin feel sticky and tired. You reason that perhaps Wanda might be more inclined to speak with you if you're freshened up and smelling good. With this thought, you let out a soft sigh, nodding in gratitude to Vision.
Slipping back into Wanda’s room and absentmindedly neglecting to lock the door, you dive into the shower without waiting for the water to warm up, welcoming its brisk, invigorating sting against your tired skin. It’s surprisingly intimate to be using Wanda's products again after days without them, and you try not to think about how it all feels a bit... like home.
Several minutes later, wrapped in a towel with droplets still clinging to your skin, you pad over to your side of the bed. The damp cold from your hair seeping through the towel sends a chill down your spine, but the softness of Wanda's sheets beckon. You can't resist the temptation any longer and, with a soft thud, you flop down.
The moment you sink into the mattress, Wanda's familiar scent envelops you, a comforting blend of jasmine and something uniquely her. Closing your eyes, you realize just how much you've missed her–not just the shared bed or the late-night whispers, but the girl herself.
The heart of it all.
Every thought of Wanda makes your heartbeat a tad bit faster. Your skin, slightly damp from the shower, feels hypersensitive against the silky sheets that smell so much like her. Every thread seems to graze your skin, reminding you of the presence you're currently missing.
Your thoughts start to shift, moving past innocent interactions you’ve had with Wanda so far. You’re now wondering if Wanda ever touched herself in this very same bed. If her fingers have lazily brushed against her core to thoughts of you, the way you’re doing now to thoughts of her. You wonder if she likes to tease herself, if she likes to pay attention to her clit or prefers to stuff herself with her own fingers.
You pull a pillow close, not just as a makeshift barrier, but as an anchor to steady the rush of arousal coursing through your body. But instead of calming you down, it sends you over the edge and deeper into your unchecked desires. The pillow is no longer just a fluffy companion; it becomes a stand-in for her–for Wanda.
You shouldn’t be doing this. Especially not on the bed that belongs to the woman you’re imagining as you throw a leg over the unsuspecting pillow. In the midst of your internal conflict, your thighs still part to welcome the plush material as you’re about to lose all sense of control.
But the universe seems to have its own way of snapping you out of questionable choices.
Just as you're about to succumb to the overwhelming sensations, the door slams open. With a startled yelp, you topple off the bed, the towel that's your only semblance of decency barely holding on. The pillow, now a poor victim to your previous intentions, gets clutched to your chest in a frantic attempt to salvage some dignity.
There, framed in the doorway, is Wanda. Her eyes wide, an unreadable expression on her face. You've never wished for the ground to swallow you up more than you do in this mortifying moment. Your face heats up, unsure if you could ever look Wanda in the eyes again after this.
And just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, she speaks.
“Um... did I interrupt something?” Wanda asks, her voice teetering between amusement and genuine curiosity. She's trying, and failing, to hide a smirk.
You, on the other hand, are a mess of jumbled words and embarrassment. “I- I was just... It's not what it looks like,” you say, but the evidence around you paints a pretty distinct picture.
Wanda raises an eyebrow, the corner of her mouth twitching upwards. “Really? Because from here, it looks pretty... interesting.”
You groan, burying your face in the pillow for a moment, the very one that betrayed you. “Can we just forget this ever happened?”
She chuckles, her earlier tension from the debriefing room (and the tension with you from days earlier) seeming to melt away in the face of your predicament. “Oh, I'm not sure I can. It's not every day I find someone... bonding with my pillow in such a way.”
Caught in a compromising situation with Wanda taking it all in, you cover your face with your hands. “I, um, Wanda, I apologize," you manage to stammer out, each word dripping with mortification.
She cocks her head, studying you. “It's... alright,” she murmurs, her gaze penetrating and elusive.  In any other circumstance, you might've caught the faint trail her eyes make over your partially exposed form, but right now, anxiety shrouds your every thought.
You bite your lip, the action causing Wanda’s breath to hitch.
“Can I... could you give me a moment? Just to... get dressed?” you ask.
Wanda nods, her lips curving into a small, understanding smile. “Of course,” She takes a step back, her fingers brushing against the door frame. “Just... maybe lock the door next time?”
You chuckle weakly, nodding. “Definitely noted.”
Once alone in the room again, a ragged exhale escapes your lips. You immediately get to your feet, scrambling for your suitcase to find something–anything–that will save you from the most embarrassing moment of your life.
Outside the room, Wanda leans against the hallway wall, her fingers absentmindedly tapping against the cool surface. The image of what she had walked into replays in her mind, sending tingles down her spine.
She feels the urge to peer into your head, see who’s starring in your wildest fantasies.
If she wants, she can find out.
But there's a line she knows she shouldn't cross, especially with teammates. Swallowing hard, Wanda decides to afford you the space and privacy to compose yourself.
Her reverie is broken by your voice, somewhat muted by the wall between you both. “I'm decent now,” you say, a touch of sheepishness clear in your tone.
For a moment, Wanda hesitates, her fingers hovering inches from the door handle. Taking a fortifying breath, she turns the knob and steps into the room.
“I'm so sorry,” you say as soon the door shuts with a soft click behind Wanda, eyes cast downward. The oversized Pikachu shirt you're wearing is probably the last thing she expected to see on you. Under different circumstances, she might have teased you about it.
Wanda shakes her head and smirks, crossing her arms in front of her. “Apologies for the pillow?”
“For what happened three days ago, during dinner. I never meant to offend you,” you say, still looking down.
Her eyes narrow, adopting a casual demeanor. “Offend me? I'm not sure what you're talking about.”
Risking a glance up, your eyes meet Wanda's, searching for a hint of the resentment or anger you're expecting. Instead, you find a relaxed, almost indifferent look in her eyes. No hint of upset, no sign of offense taken. Her nonchalance takes you aback.
“You know,” she muses, her tone light, “You were so caught up in your thoughts that you stayed away from this room for days.”
“Did I read the situation wrong?” you wonder aloud feeling a little foolish now that it seems you were reading into things too much.
Wanda shrugs her shoulders, her playful smirk returning. “Perhaps you're overthinking things a bit. Honestly, if I was truly offended, I would've said something. As for wanting space,” she continues, her gaze drifting over to the tousled sheets, “I didn't think it was a big deal.”
Swallowing your surprise, a tiny smile forms on your lips. Maybe, just maybe, you've been looking at the entire situation wrong. Maybe the pillow barrier, the shared space, and the soft morning greeting weren't as loaded with meaning as you thought.
Maybe, with Wanda, things were just simpler.
And yet, somehow, you’re disappointed by that possibility.
It means she doesn’t care if you get your room sooner or later.
It means she wouldn’t miss you as much as you would when you permanently get to sleep in your own bed.
“So… we’re good?” you ask tentatively.
Wanda simply nods. An awkward silence quickly follows and your attention is inadvertently drawn to the pillow strewn aside, its memory fresh and horrifying.
“Uh, nothing happened, but,” you say, coughing into your fist nervously. “I’ll make sure to wash that pillow.”

“Are you kidding me?” You smack your fist against the bathroom counter in anger.
“Hey, you okay?” Nancy gently knocks on the door.
“Fine.” You sound far from it.
Nancy patiently waits in the hallway for you to come out. She raises an eyebrow at you.
“What’s going on?” she asks.
“I’ve got my period,” you tell her as you walk past her and back into her bedroom.
“That sucks,” she says as she trails behind you. She shuts the door once you’re both back inside and you flop down face first on her bed. You mumble something against the mattress but Nancy can’t make it out. “Want to try that again?”
You groan and turn your head to the side so she can understand you.
“I don’t wanna go to prom on my period.”
“I know,” Nancy says sympathetically. She sits down next to you and pats your leg. “At least you have a dark dress.”
Shaking your head, you roll onto your back and stare at the ceiling.
“You don’t understand,” you say. “We got a room. Eddie and I… We were supposed to have our first time tomorrow night.”
“Oh.” Nancy lays down beside you. “Yeah, that really sucks. I hadn’t realized you guys haven’t done it yet.”
“We said we were going to wait for the right time,” you say with a sigh. “It was supposed to be prom.”
Nancy turns her head to the side to look at you.
“You two are disgustingly and grossly in love. Any time will be the right time.”
A blush heats your cheeks and you let out a chuckle.
As soon as you get home from Nancy’s, you call Eddie to break the news to him. He’s bummed, but would never let you know that. Instead, he brings chocolate and a heating pad and cuddles you the whole night after prom, in the big comfy hotel bed.

The next attempt is after graduation a few weeks later. Eddie finally graduating makes you want to just pull him into a bathroom once all the caps were thrown in the air, but it’s hard when family and friends swarm both of you in congratulations. The plan is to go to the party at Chrissy’s for a while, then head out to your house, empty and just waiting for the two of you to get down to business.
All your friends are at the party, dancing, drinking, having a fun time. Eddie doesn’t really want to dance, but you manage to convince him. Neither of you drink too much because you don’t want anything to take away from experiencing everything with each other tonight. No disorientation, numbing, nothing. You both want to be fully aware of every little touch.
Eddie raises his eyebrows at you sometime just after midnight, silently asking if you want to get going. Not hesitating for a moment, you grab Eddie’s wrist and drag him to the front door. The warm summer breeze hits your skin as you step outside, a nice departure from the stale air in the house that reeked of alcohol, body odor, and weed. Just as you step off the porch, someone barrels out of the front door behind you.
Steve stumbles forward, eyes glazed, the scent of whiskey wafting off of him. He steps forward, and though both you and Eddie are only three feet in front of him, he doesn’t seem to notice you.
“Steve?” you ask. His eyes search at the call of his name and they finally land on you, causing him to smile.
“Hey!” He’s loud and his voice sounds carefree, happy. “What’re you doing here?”
“It’s a party, Steve,” you tell him. “We’re all here.”
“Oh yeah,” Steve says and he stumbles to the side.
Eddie steps forward to make sure he doesn’t fall, but still rolls his eyes at his friend.
“Where are your keys?” Eddie asks.
“Dunno,” Steve says with a shrug.
“Are they in your pocket?” you ask.
Steve pats at his ass and hips, and his face lights up when he feels them in his front pocket.
“Got ‘em!”
“I’ll take those,” Eddie says as he snatches them from Steve’s hand.
“Hey,” Steve pouts. He looks at you, eyes wide like he’s hoping you’ll back him up.
“You’re not driving,” you tell him.
“Fine,” Steve says with a sigh.
Eddie takes his own keys out of his pocket and replaces them with Steve’s.
“Come on, we’ll take you home,” Eddie says. He sighs as he lets Steve hold on to him for balance as they walk down the stairs.
“Cool, thanks,” Steve says. He stumbles down the steps and stops. His brow furrows for a minute and he stands completely still before darting over to the bushes and bends in half as he vomits loudly. You grimace and turn away, trying to block it out.
You move into Eddie’s arms and hide your face in his neck as you wait for Steve to finish. When he’s done, he stumbles back over to the two of you, but he’s decidedly less happy than he was before. He looks pale and his eyes have gone from glassy to bloodshot.
“Shit, Steve,” Eddie says as you step out of his arms. The both of you help Steve into the back of Eddie’s van, where he can lay down, and head to Steve’s house.
When Eddie pulls up, you frown when you see the large dark house. There’s not a single light on in the whole place and you can’t bring yourself to take Steve inside.
“Eddie, we can’t leave him alone,” you say.
“I know.” Eddie sighs and rubs a hand over his face. “Fuck.”
He puts the van back in drive and does a U-turn in the Harrington driveway to head back in the direction of your house.
Your room is the closest to the front door, so you pull down your blankets as Eddie half carries Steve into the room. A sigh of relief leaves Steve’s lips as his head hits your pillow.
“Thanks, guys,” he mumbles.
“Whatever,” Eddie huffs as he walks out the door.
“We’ll be down the hall if you need anything, Steve,” you say as you turn out the light.
Eddie’s standing in the hallway with his arms crossed over his chest. You walk over and place a soft kiss on his lips.
“Guess we’re sleeping in my parents' bed.”
“I’m guessing that’s a no, then?” Eddie asks.
“Um, duh! I’m not doing it on my parents’ bed. Or with Steve in the next room.”
“Why do we have to be such good friends?” Eddie asks through clenched teeth.
“Because we’re good people,” you tell him. “Now come on, let’s make a new plan for our first time.”
Tumblr media
Everything was all planned out for your birthday. Eddie was going to take you out to lunch, go see the new horror movie you wanted to see, then a trip to your favorite book store, and finally back to his place where he was going to cook you dinner. Wayne would be at work for the night and you’d have the whole place to yourselves. Your perfect moment had finally arrived.
Your stomach tumbles as Eddie pulls the van up to his trailer. Both of you are so excited and fidgety that neither of you notice the other truck out front.
“Hey, kids,” Wayne says as you step through the front door.
“Wayne,” you say in surprise.
“Um, aren’t you going to be late to work?” Eddie asks.
“Took the night off,” Wayne says with a grin. “Thought I’d take you both out to dinner to celebrate this one’s birthday.” He looks at you and gives you a wink. “I couldn’t just let you eat Eddie’s cooking.”
You force a chuckle as Eddie’s hand tightens around your own.
“Well, let’s head on out,” Wayne says.
Eddie’s quiet the majority of dinner, but eventually loosens up and gets back to his old self. You’re disappointed too, but it’s still a very thoughtful thing Wayne did and you make sure to tell him that you appreciate it. When you get back to the trailer, Wayne lets you pick the movie and you snuggle up on the couch with Eddie as you watch.
Wayne didn’t have an issue with you spending the night at their place, and you still consider it a great birthday present to sleep in Eddie’s arms.
Waking up with Eddie was also wonderful. He’s awake before you, just holding you against his chest until you woke up. He smothers your face in kisses until you giggle so hard your stomach hurts.
When you get up, Wayne’s left a note saying he’s gone out fishing and Eddie heads into the kitchen to get breakfast.
“Cereal?” Eddie asks.
“Sure.” You go over to the couch and flip the television on. Eddie’s old hole-ridden Ozzy shirt tangles around your body as you curl up.
Eddie walks in with two bowls of cereal, and you can’t help but smile at his bedhead.
“Nice hair,” you say.
“Look who’s talking,” Eddie says with a smirk.
You reach up and feel that your hair isn’t much better than his.
Eddie hands you a bowl before sitting down near your feet, digging into his own breakfast. He finishes first, slurping his milk loudly, and once you’re done he takes both bowls back to the kitchen. When he comes back, you move so you can lean against him, but you stop with a chuckle as he sits.
“What?” Eddie asks as he plops down.
“You have milk on your face.”
“Where?” He wipes around his mouth, but misses the spot by a mile.
You lean forward and wipe it off with your thumb. Eddie catches your wrist in his hand and presses a kiss to your palm. Your eyes lock and a shiver runs up your spine. Looking into Eddie’s eyes, you feel so close to him. You love him and he loves you. Why were you two trying to create the perfect moment for your first time? Any time with Eddie is already perfect, and your first time would be special no matter when it happens.
He tucks some of your messy hair behind your ear and you’re certain he’s thinking the same things that you are. You tilt your chin up and he slowly leans in, slotting your lips together. As your hands go around his neck, his arm wraps around your waist and he gently lays you down. You spread your legs and Eddie rests his body between them, hands running from your waist down to your hips as his tongue delves into your mouth. A moan escapes your lips as you slip your hands up Eddie’s shirt, parting your mouths only for a moment to slide it off over his head. He copies your actions and slips his own shirt from your body. Kisses are pressed against your neck and your body arches up into his, giving Eddie the perfect opportunity to squeeze your breast in his hand.
The vibration of Eddie moaning against your neck causes your hips to buck up against his. The hard length of his cock rubs against your thigh and the feel has you letting out a whimper.
“Eddie,” you breathe out.
“Yes, baby?” Eddie whispers against your throat.
“Need you.”
“I’ve got you, princess,” Eddie says.
His hand slips down the front of your pajama pants and rubs over the thin material of your panties. Legs spreading wider for him, Eddie kisses down to your collarbone and starts to lick and nibble at your skin, determined to mark you up as he moves your panties aside and runs two fingers through your slick folds.
Chanting his name over and over again like a prayer makes him smile against your skin. When Eddie takes his hand out of your pants, it causes you to whine at the loss of contact. He shushes you gently as he starts to tug the pajamas down over your hips. Once you’ve kicked them off completely, your hands tug at his pants, which he sheds himself of, along with his boxers.
Eddie’s fingers travel south again, collecting the wetness that’s pooled between your legs before finding your clit with his thumb, rubbing small circles against it. Blunt nails dig into his shoulders and you whine out in ecstasy.
“Want you,” you say. The feeling of his precum leaking on to your thigh has you getting even wetter.
“Ready?”
“I’m ready,” you say.
With one hand, Eddie cups your jaw and presses his lips to yours, kissing you firmly but lovingly. His other hand lines himself up with your entrance and slowly pushes in. You gasp against his lips at the unfamiliar intrusion, fingers digging even harder into Eddie’s shoulders.
“Fuck,” Eddie moans against your lips. “You okay?”
“M’good,” you say.
He eases further into you and there’s a pinch. You wince, but the pain quickly subsides and all you feel is pleasure as Eddie bottoms out.
“Shit, you’re so tight,” Eddie says. He pulls his hips back and slides back in again, making both of you moan.
“So big,” you counter.
“Baby,” Eddie says with a soft breathless chuckle. “You feel too perfect. I’m not going to be able to last long.”
“S’okay,” you tell him. “Touch me?”
Eddie’s fingers come down to rub at your clit. The sounds that come out of you only make Eddie sure he’s going to cum even sooner.
“I love you,” you tell him.
“I love you too.”
His nose nudges against yours as he gives you sweet kisses. The feeling of him being inside of you is weird, but in the best way possible. Being connected to him like this has your emotions bubbling to the surface and you try to hide the tears that are prickling the corners of your eyes. Of course, Eddie notices though. He immediately stills inside of you.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay? Am I hurting you?”
“No!” You almost shout it out, cupping his face in your hands. “This is just…perfect.”
The relief washes across Eddie’s face and he leans in to press his lips to yours.
“It is perfect,” Eddie agrees.
Your fingers tangle in his hair as he presses soft and sweet kisses up your jaw to your ear. His hips stutter and a moan comes up his throat.
“Gonna cum, sweetheart. Fuck.”
“Please, baby. Want you to cum in me.”
Eddie sees stars when you clench around him, and he’s spilling inside of you, coating your walls.
“Wow,” Eddie pants out against your neck. His body collapses on top of yours and you giggle as his hair tickles your face.
“That was hot,” you say against Eddie’s ear, pressing a few kisses against it.
“Yeah?” Eddie licks over his lips, trying to catch his breath. “It was good?”
“I meant your face was hot when you came,” you say with a smile. “But, hell yes. That was amazing, Eddie.”
“But you didn’t-.”
You don’t give him the chance to finish, smashing your mouth against his in a messy kiss. It’s only when you need a breath that you pull away from him.
“Doesn’t mean it didn’t feel incredible,” you tell him. “Being connected to you like that was basically the best thing ever.”
“It was,” Eddie agrees. “We didn’t need a perfect moment.”
“Nope,” you say. “We made our own one.”

ᴍʏ ɢɪʀʟ - ʙɪʟʟʏ ʜᴀʀɢʀᴏᴠᴇ
@antraa-blog1 because you so kindly asked for more Billy :))
Summary: Steve just won't get the hint that you and Billy are in love with each other and that you won't leave him. Warning: allusions to sex.
Tumblr media
Billy kept an eye trained on you from across the hall as you giggled with your friend. He leaned back against his locker as you took out books from yours. His eyebrows furrowed when you picked up an envelope with a heart drawn across the front, clearly from an admirer and definitely not from him. You dropped it, you and your friend's laughs ringing throughout the hall as you shut your locker closed.
He followed you as you made your way to class, very aware of everyone who laid an eye on you. You sat down on a seat in the back row, your friend sitting on one side of you. Bill glared down at the boy sitting on your opposite side, and he scurried off to find another seat. He slumped down on the chair and you turned to look at him, flashing him a bright smile.
It was inevitable that the two of you would become an item. You, the sunshine of the school, so willing to crack jokes at the worst time, a flirtatious glint always present in your eyes. You were never afraid to bite back. And him. The mysterious player who had girls falling for him at his feet. The new king of Hawkins. The athletic jock who had women lining up to be the next one in the back of his car.
You wanted to know what was so special about him. He wanted to know what was so special about you. Along that journey, you somehow both ended up in the same bed. Naked and in love.
Ever since you got together, people knew to not mess with either of you. Apart from one person in particular.
Billy passed you a note.
'Who was it from'
You look over to him, a confused look on your face. When his expression didn't change, his jaw still clenched, a look of realisation fell on your features. You shrugged at him, not having opened the letter yet. When the bell rang, Billy threw his bag over his shoulder, grabbing your books while you stood up and left the classroom with you running after him. He stopped at your locker, fiddling with the combination. You took the books from him so he could put the numbers in faster and he ripped open the locker door, finding the letter.
"Billy, let me." He shook his head, fuming, but you gently eased the letter out of his hands, handing him your books back.
'You know you want me. I can show you a better time than he can. My place, after school.
S.H'
You pressed the letter to your chest "Billy you don't want to read that." He ripped the paper from your hands and you held his forearm, as though preventing him from getting angry. He chuckled angrily and looked down the hall, searching for the culprit. He clutched the paper in his hand, shoving past you and you sighed, knowing what would come next. You closed your locker, throwing your head back with a groan before following Billy. You ended up in the cafeteria, watching as Billy took Harrington from the collar and slightly lifted him up his seat. "What is this?" He was saying threateningly, holding up the letter.
"You need to get the fucking hint that she's mine. If you don't your head is going to be hung up on my bedroom wall like a trophy and you can be there to watch her scream out my name. Every. Single. Time"
"Billy. Billy, look at me." You spoke once you made your way over to where he stood. He turned over to look at you and his face slightly softened. You took his face in your hands, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. Once you pulled away, you took one of his hands, trying to pull him away from the scene. He nodded, walking with you for a couple of steps before turning back and punching the boy straight in the nose.
Your eyes widened and you bit your lip, but your chest still swelled up with pride. Billy wiped a bloody hand on his trousers and held it out for you to hold. You took it, happily walking out of the cafeteria with him.

They keep their relationship secret at the start, at Steve's request.
It's not that Steve was ashamed of Eddie or anything, but he knew what his friends were like. Nancy and Robin would have an absolute field day, especially with all of the whining and pining Steve had been giving them for months. The kids would immediately be all up in their business and he would probably get at least four different shovel talks when it did come out in the open. But worst of all they would all be biting at the bit to tell Eddie every embarrassing little thing they knew about him.
Steve could accept that, he could, he would, but could anyone blame him for wanting his boyfriend to not be aware of what a loser he could be? Eddie was still on the high of having Steve save his life and watching him not get his ass handed to him for once, and all Steve wanted was to keep that image alive during the early stages of their relationship. His image could be shattered after Eddie was madly in love with him.
Plus, Steve knew that he was Eddie's first real relationship and he wanted to give him the full King Steve wooing treatment. And that was a lot easier without being heckled by six children. And in Steve's humble opionion, he was doing a damn good job of it.
Calling every night just to ask how his day went? Check. Impromptu hugs from behind that involved picking Eddie up and twirling him around? Check. Special little presents throughout the week that never failed to make Eddie wear the prettiest blush Steve had ever seen? Double check.
He was even up for helping Eddie out with his drug deals on particularly busy weekends, always waving away Eddie's worried protests. No police officer in Hawkins would ever believe that drugs were being run through the Harrington household, even if the adult Harringtons themselves hadn't stepped foot in Hawkins for a year. Besides, he always managed to convince any of his lady clients to buy at embarrassingly high prices and was more than willing to be a charlatan for Eddie's financial sake.
So imagine his surprise when he wakes up to three furious kids pounding on his door the morning after scamming Tammy Thompson out of $30 for a gram of weed. He left Eddie behind in bed, thankful that he slept like the dead, kissing his hair before getting the door.
Max, Dustin, and Lucas stomped right past him the second he opened it, wasting no time before they started yelling over each other.
"Where is she?" Max gritted out, whipping her head around the living room, "And don't even try to lie, we saw her car here last night. And the weekend before!"
Steve pinched the bridge of his nose, completely confused but at least aware it was way to early for him to be dealing with this shit, "What the hell are you talking about?"
"We know you're cheating on Eddie, just admit it!" Dustin crossed his arms over his chest, "And after everything he's been through?"
Lucas was shaking his head, and giving Steve the most disappointed look he'd ever seen, it was cutting, "And with Tammy? I really thought you'd changed man. You have five minutes to explain yourself before we tell Mike, and he'll just kill you."
Steve just stared at the trio, his mind desperately trying to catch up to figure out how they knew about Eddie and why they thought Steve was stupid enough to throw it all away for a blonde kermit. Eddie choose that moment to sleepily wander down the stairs, eyes widening at the sight of three teenagers berating his boyfriend in defense of his honor.
It took a half hour for Eddie to convince them it was all a misunderstanding and even less time for Steve to find out that everyone knew about them from basically day one.
"When you suddenly stopped waxing poetry about Eddie's hair this and Eddie's eyes that, we just knew it had happened," Max shrugged.
"And I've seen you guys make out at the drive in like, three times now," Lucas added, "You're really not subtle."
"Not that we aren't happy for you!" Dustin smiled, immediately appeased by Eddie's explanation, "Robin just told us to give you space until you came clean, but everyone thinks it's great."
"Robin knows?!"
They all nodded, all way too pleased with themselves, "Who do you think told us?"
Steve groaned, she was never going to let him live this down when she found out about this stupid Tammy thing, let alone the fact that she had him clocked from the get-go.
Dustin turned to Eddie, still all smiles, "So now that you know we know, we have so much to tell you."
Steve watched, head in his hands as his favorite children started to regale his favorite person with all of his most embarrassing moments, debating on if he should be thankful that they managed to even wait as long as they had to spill the beans, or if he should examine just how poorly he had managed to hide his feelings.
Either way that was the last time Steve tried to hide anything from his kids.

“Another one?” you ask the blonde eyeing your colleague up and down. He dips his head as you clear your throat to get his attention. “Do you want another drink? You know, my colleague is not on the menu.”
“Engagement parties, I hate them,” he turns his back on the people at the party to look at you. “So, you’re working here or-“
“What does it look like? I’m not here to get a massage,” rolling your eyes you turn around to get a new bottle of whiskey. “Do you want another drink or not?”
“Why would anyone celebrate their engagement at a bar?”
“How shall I know?” you shrug. “I’m just trying to do my job and go home when my shift is over. If you want to know why she came here to celebrate her engagement, ask my stepmother.”
“Stepmother?” that picked the man’s interest. “The bride is your mother?”
“Stepmother,” you correct. “I haven’t seen her since my dad’s burial. No, wait. It was right after the lawyer read the will of my father.”
“Why are you working at a bar if your dad was…rich?”
“Well, she got all of his money, the company, and the house. I didn’t want his money or shit, it just hurts that he didn’t think of me at all,” while you wipe the counter, the man frowns deeply.
“That’s shit.”
“That’s life. She spread her legs for my father for three years and gets everything. I was his daughter all my life and must work three jobs to pay back my student loan. English literature, what a waste of time.”
“Not to me,” he offers. “Uh-name’s Steve. Steve Rogers.”
While the man in front of you holds out his hand, you look around the crowded bar to watch your stepmother get cozy with her newest conquest. Another wealthy man.
“Y/N be a darling and make some more drinks for my friends,” your hands ball into fists when your stepmother steps toward the bar counter. She batts her eyelashes and purses her lips. “And hurry up. They are not some of your little friends, living on beer and cheap food.”
“Dot,” your stepmother’s fiancé joins her and the blonde at the bar counter. “Do we get more drinks soon or-?” he licks his lips as his eyes land on you. “Steve, I wanted you to get more drinks, not flirt with the bartender.”
You eye the man up and down. He’s wearing a dark blue suit and matching tie. His polished shoes cost more than all of your shoes, and you are fairly sure, he’s wearing even more expensive underwear.
His blue eyes drop to the drink in the blonde’s hand. “I’m thirsty. Bartender, be a doll and give me one of these too.”
He flashes you a smile, making his blue eyes sparkle. You bet he’s the kind of guy always getting his way only by smiling at people. Not tonight.
“Sorry, my shift is over,” you drop the towel onto the counter. “You can wait for my colleague, or, how about you ask my beloved stepmother? She was a waitress before she met my dad and got her greedy hands on his money.”
“She was joking, Jamie. Y/N is just jealous I found love again,” she stammers. “I never was a waitress.”
“Of course, love,” Bucky sighs as he watches you storm toward the back of the bar. “Maybe she just needs time to adjust. We could invite her for dinner.”
“Buck, I’m getting a terrible headache. I’ll find my way out,” the blonde says.
“Steve, wait,” Bucky watches his best friend and best man leave the bar. He knows Steve doesn’t like Dot. “Come on. Don’t be like that.”
“Do you,” Steve turns around to whisper in Bucky’s ear, “know anything about your soon-to-be wife but how she sucks your cock? Did you know that she got all the money, the house, and shit from her latest husband? Did you know that his daughter must work three jobs to get around?”
Tumblr media
A week later, the bar you are working at…
“We are closed,” you jerk your head toward the door. “Go to one of those fancy clubs you are used to. We have nothing to offer here.”
“My friend Steve told me you were a good host,” Bucky plops down onto one of the bar stools and flashes you a smile. “Can I have a drink too? Last time you left me hanging.”
You take a moment to drink him in. He’s all casual today, wearing a Henley and jeans. God, he’s gorgeous. That bastard got it all. The looks. The smile. The eyes.
If only he didn’t want to marry the woman you hate the most.
“Why are you here?” you sigh. “I got a lot of work to do and got no time for Dot’s nonsense, or yours.”
“You don’t like your stepmother much, but she wants you to come to our wedding,” you sneer at his words. “Please don’t make this any harder for her.”
“I rather let someone stab me with a rusty knife.”
“Why are you like this?”
“Maybe you should ask her,” you turn around to get a glass for Bucky. “She came into our lives. Three years later my father dies in an accident and his lawyer tells me and his brother that he left everything to Dot. Even the company he built with his brother.”
“He loved her.”
You huff.
“Doll don’t be mad at your stepmother for things happening in the past. You should try to move on. Both of you.”
“I tried,” you slam the glass onto the counter. “She forced me to leave my home. I tried to stay away from her, while my uncle still fights her. He tries to get the company back. I gave up a long time ago.”
He looks surprised.
“She is the one not leaving me alone. Whenever she gets the chance to, she rubs salt into my wounds. Like last week. She didn’t have to rent the whole bar to celebrate her engagement party here. It was to show me she got another wealthy guy into her clutches.”
“Dot is not like that,” you roll your eyes. Of course, Bucky cannot see the ugly monster behind her pretty façade. Dot is a master at manipulating and gaslighting people.
“Believe whatever you want. Just keep me out of this shit. Dot got all she ever wanted from me and my family. I got nothing else to offer.”
You pour Bucky a drink. “That’s the first and last drink you will ever get from me. Don’t come back here.”
Tumblr media
Another month later, the car dealer you are working at…
“Not again.”
You can’t believe Bucky followed you to your second job. He looks at the cars, scrunching up his nose. “Hello, doll. I’m looking for…a car.”
“I don’t think you want a second-hand Volvo or an old and rusty Chevy. You look more like,” you look him up and down, “Porsche, or Ferrari. These cars are for people who work for their money and need a car to get to work. Not another status symbol.”
“Why do you hate me?”
He looks you deep in the eyes, searching your face.
“I don’t hate you,” you look away. “I just don’t want to watch another man end up losing everything he has to Dot. So please, stay away from me.”
“If only you would give her a chance, she could be a good stepmother.”
You snort. “Dude, she’s like four years elder than me. She never was and never will be a stepmother to me. She’s a bitch in heat looking for another dick to ride. A wealthy dick, of course.”
“Dick, huh?” he smirks.
You put your hands on your hips and glare at him. “If you would excuse me now. I have work to do.”
“I can see that. You are an expert in working yourself up,” how you hate his stupid smirk. “How about I invite you for dinner and we can talk some more.”
“No.”
“No?”
“No!”
“Heaven help, me with this stubborn brat. I can’t believe I’m wasting my time on her,” he can only watch you storm off. Bucky can’t help but wonder how it would feel to spank your ass.
Tumblr media
Three weeks later, your last working place. Copy room.
“No…no,” you kick the copier. “It’s the wrong day to mess with me, bitch. I give you one last chance to give me those damn copies before I kick your ass again.”
“I don’t think a copier got an ass,” snickering Bucky leans in the doorframe to watch you fight with the machine. You kick it again. “Doll, the poor machine doesn’t deserve your hatred.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“I thought we can go for dinner,” he steps inside the room and kicks the door shut with his foot. “Doll, I’m talking to you.”
“I got that.”
You don’t turn around, nor do you pay attention to Bucky when he steps closer to have a look at the copier. “How about being a little friendlier?”
“How about you get lost?”
“I get why you don’t get along with Dot,” he puts his hands on your hips and whispers in your ear. “You’re both so stubborn. Maybe I can help you get along better.”
“You can get lost. I don’t want anything to do with Dot, and the catastrophe you call your wedding.”
“I bet I can change your mind,” Bucky presses a soft kiss to your neck. “I’ll be back soon, doll.”
Tumblr media
A month later, Barnes and Rogers Inc., your new boss’s office…
“Hi, I’m Y/N Y/L/N. I’m here for the interview,” you gape at the man sitting in a swivel chair. “You’ve got to be shitting me!”
“Welcome to Barnes and Rogers Inc., doll,” Bucky grins as you start to throw insults at him. You had hoped to finally get a full-time job. You’re tired of working three jobs. “Why did you do this? I wanted a new job, not another confrontation with my past.”
“Oh, doll,” he slowly gets up from his chair to stride towards you. “I have a better plan for you. For us.”
“US?”
He wraps one arm around your waistline, holding you close to his chest. “Us, Y/N. I want you to be a good girl now and do as I say.” Bucky whispers in your ear. “I’ll be your daddy soon. And I’ll make sure to become a very good daddy for you.”
“Get off me,” you weakly wiggle in his iron grip. “You won’t become my dad. I had a great dad.”
“He gave all of his money to Dot,” his hand moves up to your chest to give one tit a good squeeze. “He was an awful father. Let me be your daddy…”
You make an odd noise. This is it, the moment you have been waiting for. “I don’t think so,” you only need to rile him up a little more and…
“Fucking brat.”
He drags you toward his desk, cursing under his breath. You let him bend you over his desk. And you don’t fight him when he shoves your skirt up your waist and your panties down your legs.
You smirk.
“What do you want to do about it.”
Bucky presses one hand to the small of your back to hold you down. “I’ll show you how to behave.”
“Show me.”
“You’re not going to walk for a while.”
He kicks your legs apart. Bucky slaps your pussy, fingers running through your slicked folds. You hold your breath and try to hide you are already a dripping mess. “Slut, already so wet for me.”
You bite your tongue.
“Got nothing to say,” two fingers prop at your entrance, waiting, lingering to cross a line. “Fine, I wanted to go easy on you.”
“Fuck you.”
“No. Fuck you.”
Belt buckle. Zipper. Pants dropping to the ground. A symphony to your ears.
“I’m gonna fucking ruin this cunt,” Bucky curses behind you. He runs his cock up and down your folds, gathering your slick to cover his dick. “You’re going to be my good girl.”
Biting your lower lip hard enough to draw blood you feel him snap his hips into your ass, filling you in one go. He starts moving in vigor. Rough. Fast. Without mercy.
“Fucking brat.”
Bucky drags you onto his thick length, blunt nails digging into your skin. He watches his cock disappear in your body, smirking as you push back onto him.
“That’s much better. Good girl. Taking my cock so well.”
You struggle to not moan his name. He can never know you made sure he will end up fucking you over his desk. This is all you ever dreamed of and more.
“Jamie?” Bucky stills his movement, but his cock twitches inside of your cunt. “What? Y/N?” Dot gasps as she just caught Bucky balls deep inside of you. “What are you doing?”
“Uh-what does it look like, mommy?” you lift your head to grin at her. Bucky swallows thickly as you start to clench tightly around him. He drops his eyes to your stuffed cunt as you start moving your hips to fuck yourself on his cock. “I’m fucking daddy…”
“Dot…I…uh,” Bucky tries to find the right words. “I tried to convince her to come to the wedding and realized, I prefer fucking her and not you.”
“I will destroy you, James Buchanan Barnes!” Dot storms out of the office and slams the door shut. “We are done!”
“I got everything I wanted from you, Dot,” he grips your hips to stop you from moving. “Now, will you tell me why you came all over me when Dot caught us?”
“I-I like to fuck with taken men…sometimes…”
“Well, this is over. You are mine now,” Bucky grunts. “When I’m done with you, we will make sure you’ll get all of your money, the house, and the company back…”
“Why would you do such a thing?”
“Your father was a good friend of my family for the longest time and I tried to find out what happend to him. Having my way with you was just a ... bonus...”

—Steve Harrington x fem!reader
—summary: it's the first year steve decided to leave his family out of his birthday plans, and for some reason, it hurts. based on Matilda by Harry Styles.
—word count: 2.1k
—tw: mentions of abuse, swearing, mentions of alcohol, shitty parents,
—a/n: family isn't always blood, i love you all.🖤this one's for any of you who can relate.
═════════════════
You were riding your bike to the sound of "It's No Big Deal"
And you're trying to lift off the ground on those old two wheels
Nothing about the way that you were treated ever seemed especially alarming 'til now
So you tie up your hair and you smile like it's no big deal
The first birthday Steve can remember, his parents didn’t care. His father gave him a couple bucks so he could ride his bike to the corner store and pick out any snack he wanted, barely even sparing a glance at his son as the older man threw the green bills on the side table, grumbling something about how birthdays are a scam.
Steve remembers the sidewalk in front of him being blurry as he rode his bike, trying his best to blink away the tears and stop the quivering in his lip.
Steve remembers his parents' car absent from the driveway when he got home.
They came home hours later, insisting he get up and get ready for family dinner at his Aunt’s house, where of course he was showered with gifts and his favorite dinner, and a green and blue birthday cake with candles and his name on it, and Steve almost felt special.
Until his uncles drank too much champagne and his older cousins left early to hang out with their friends and his mom and dad fought. He just felt like another reason to eat fancy dinner and get drunk.
And that’s how it went. Year after year.
Eventually he drove himself to the corner store, and eventually he used his own money, and eventually, he brought his new girlfriend to the family birthday dinner.
You.
And man, was Steve proud to bring a beautiful gem like you to family dinner. And it was completely perfect. His younger cousins sat on your lap, his Aunts gushed over how gorgeous you were, his Uncle’s nodded with raised eyebrows, impressed, as you talked about your studies, his mom and dad even laughed at a joke you made.
But it was his birthday, and the Universe would always find a way to ruin his birthday.
Steve and his father both had one too many glasses of champagne, and it only started as a small, even humorous argument, something about a movie quote, or which band sang a certain song, and it ended in far too much yelling, and screaming, and eventually a sharp hand to Steve’s cheek.
Steve remembers you crying and fussing over it when you arrived back to your shared apartment, you felt so guilty that you weren’t aware of how bad it was. He also remembers never being that embarrassed in his entire life.
“You’re never going back there.” He remembered you saying, and he agreed.
He’d do anything you thought was best.
You can let it go
You can throw a party full of everyone you know
And not invite your family, 'cause they never showed you love
You don't have to be sorry for leaving and growing up, mmh
“Oh, happy birthday sweet pea!” Joyce gushed, pulling Steve in for a hug as soon as she swung the front door open.
“Thanks, Mrs. Byers.” Steve replied, wrapping his arms around the much smaller woman.
She pulled away and put her finger in his face in mock annoyance, “Joyce. You call me Joyce. Or mom. Oh! Honey!” Joyce was immediately distracted by you behind Steve as she pulled you into a hug of your own. “Oh you just look so beautiful. Come in, come in!”
You and Steve shared humorous smiles before stepping into the Byers’ home, immediately welcomed by several bright, smiling faces, all wishing your boyfriend a happy birthday. Dustin, Lucas, Erika, Max and Mike immediately ran to your boyfriend and tackled him to the ground in a giant group hug, a chorus of “happy birthday”’s ringing from all of them and you laughed before pulling the kids off and helping your boyfriend off so he could greet everyone else.
You opted to stand back for a minute and observe, and your heart nearly exploded as you watched him awkwardly embrace Eleven as she handed him a homemade birthday card, and ruffle Will’s hair after he handed him a messily wrapped gift. You watched as Robin embraced him tightly and planted a kiss on top of his head right before Nancy gave him a gentle hug and a sweet smile, wishing him a happy birthday, and finally he moved on to Jonathan, Eddie, and Hopper who gave him firm handshakes and pats on the back, except for Eddie who fully koala’d him and messed up his hair.
You laughed and wiped a stray tear from your face as fast as possible, you didn’t want to make him uncomfortable or embarrassed if he turned and saw you crying.
You pretended like something was in your eye as Joyce approached and bumped her shoulder to yours, shooting you a knowing smile, which you returned.
“It’s his first birthday without his family.” You said, and Joyce sighed.
“I know they aren’t great, but it has to be hard.”
You nodded, it was hard. You could see the internal battle through his eyes. Feeling guilty, then feeling stupid for even feeling guilty, it was a constant back and forth, and you could see it.
“I’m really happy he has you guys, though. My family’s no picnic basket either, I don’t know what either of us would do if it wasn’t for all of you.”
“Well luckily,” A deeper, much gruffer voice sounded from behind you as a long arm draped around your neck, you looked up to see Hopper, unlit cigarette between his teeth and an opened beer in hand. “You don’t have to think about that.” He finished his sentence with a wink as he handed the beer, which you took gladly.
“Touche.” –
It was about an hour into the party when you couldn’t find Steve, your mind was slightly clouded from the buzz from all the beers Hopper kept handing you, and you were trying your best to focus and find your boyfriend, when you felt a light squeeze on your shoulder and you turned to see Robin, who was pointing towards the closed door to the kitchen.
“Kitchen.”
“Lifesaver.”
You wasted no time heading to the kitchen, where lo and behold, revealed your boyfriend. His hands were grasped onto the kitchen counter, his knuckles turning white, with his head hung low.
“Baby…”
“I’m a shitty son.”
“Steve, you know that’s not true.”
He didn’t respond. He still hadn’t looked up at you, fully focused on the flooring in the Byers’ kitchen.
“Steve-”
“I know.”
The silence hung heavily in the kitchen, and it continued that way for a while. You didn’t want to push him to talk about anything he didn’t want to on his birthday.
“Why do I feel so goddamn guilty?” He finally said, pushing himself off of the counter and looking at you, his eyes brimmed with tears and his voice shook.
“Steve…” You cooed as your feet carried you to your boyfriend so you could pull him into you, and once your skin touched his he broke, and his body shook with sobs in your arms.
“I want them to be here.” He cried, “I want them to want to be here.”
You tried to hold back your own tears as you pulled him closer, his face buried into your neck and his arms wrapped around your waist, holding onto you as tight as he could.
“I know, my love. I’m so sorry.”
Matilda, you talk of the pain like it's all alright
But I know that you feel like a piece of you's dead inside
You showed me a power that is strong enough to bring sun to the darkest days
It's none of my business, but it's just been on my mind
Steve eventually pulled away from you, hastily wiping the tears from his face and taking a deep breath.
“It’s fine, it’s not even a big deal.”
You rolled your eyes and planted your hands on either side of his face, forcing him to look at you. He says it’s fine, but you can see the hurt, it’s plastered all over his pretty face.
“It’s okay to feel sad. Every year, you’ve done the same thing for your birthday with your family, whether or not it’s happy memories, it always hurts to cut ties.”
Steve nodded and you placed a small kiss on the tip of his nose.
“STEVE!!” You heard what was most definitely Robin’s voice screech from the living room and you chuckled.
“I think it’s time for cake.”
If anyone took notice to Steve’s absence or overheard his muffled breakdown through the kitchen door, they didn’t mention or acknowledge it, they simply carried on with the party, which you knew Steve appreciated greatly.
You couldn’t help but reminisce on all you and Steve had been through together as you watched him with his friends, his family, with the biggest smile on his face as he held his mouth wide open for Eddie to throw M&M’s into.
When you first started dating Steve, you were in a bad place with your family too, you had just graduated from Hawkin’s high, and your family was ready to move on, but you couldn’t bring yourself to go with them. The abuse from your father and the manipulation from your mother and the constant nitpicking from your brother was all too much, and you didn’t know how much more of it you could take. Steve helped you find the courage to stand firm, and tell them something you never had before, “No.”
Of course, it didn’t go over well. Your father fought you, your mother cried and claimed you were breaking her heart, but with Steve by your side, and some surprising help from your brother, you gathered up your things, and moved in with Joyce, until you and Steve were both financially ready for an apartment of your own.
He’d never know, and he’d never believe it because of what his family made him believe of himself, but he was your sun. He showed you peace, and solace, and brightness that could pull you out of your darkest days, and he didn’t even know. He would never be able to wrap his mind around just how much you adored him.
You're just in time, make your tea and your toast
You framed all your posters and dyed your clothes, ooh
You don't have to go
You don't have to go home
Oh, there's a long way to go
I don't believe that time will change your mind
In other words
I know they won't hurt you anymore as long as you can let them go
“Man, those kids look at you like you hung the moon, Steve.”
The two of you had just returned to your apartment, stacks of leftover food piled in your hands, and hearts full.
Steve chuckled and shook his head. “Eh, they’d look at anyone who’s slightly older than them and saved their asses multiple times like that.”
You shook your head, “You’re special, baby. They don’t look at Robin like that.”
“They love Robin-”
“Of course they do, but you’re something else, Steve. That’s your family.”
Steve nodded and rolled his lips into his mouth, you could tell he was holding back tears.
“Hey,” You grabbed the wrapped leftovers from his hands and set them down on the kitchen counter, before grabbing his hand and leading him to sit with you on the couch.
“Your blood family may be absolute shit, in fact they are. But your chosen family, those kids and your friends and Jim and Joyce, are wonderful. And they love you, and they want you to accept them as family. The assholes can’t hurt you anymore if you just let them go, honey.”
“It’s hard.” Steve’s voice broke as a tear slipped from his eye, which you were quick to get rid of with a swipe of your thumb.
“I know. I know because I’ve done it. But you helped me, Steve. They all helped me. Let us help you, baby, please.”
Your hand cradled his face and he leaned into your touch, leaving a sweet kiss on the palm of your hand as he brought his own hand up to hold your wrist. His breaths were getting shorter by the second, so you situated yourself into his lap and laid your head on his chest, maneuvering his hand that was previously holding your wrist to rest above your heart, so he could feel you, feel that you were right there.
“You can let it go.”

Eddie has a one night stand, and the end result was a daughter who the mother left with Eddie. Eddie was still in denial that he's in love with Steve. Dustin had started to figure it out, though, especially when Eddie named his daughter Stephanie and nicknamed her Stephie.
"I think you might be in love with Steve," Dustin said as he cradled Stephie.
"Why would you say that?" Eddie asked.
Eddie was completely aware of his attraction to both along with Steve’s but he was completely oblivious towards his feelings for him.
"Well, you put Stephie in a tiny little yellow sweater, and I looked into her dresser. . .where on Earth did you get so many baby polos?" Dustin asked.
"I special ordered them from a magazine," Eddie whispered quietly, his eyes wide. "I don't like polos personally, but I think she pulls them off. It does not mean that I'm in love with Steve."
"Her name is Stephie, and I saw her mother. . .she looked like a female version of Steve. I think unconsciously were wishing you with Steve when you were with her," Dustin said.
"Hey! I was awake the entire time I was having sex with her, and so was she!" Eddie said defensively.
"Yeah, that's not what I meant. That's not what I meant at all," Dustin said.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Steve walked into Eddie's apartment carrying a bag.
"Hey, Eds, I made something for Stephie, I think you're going to love it," Steve said.
Eddie grabbed the bag and opened it. Inside was a vest with a tiny Dio patch on the back. It was just like Eddie's. He stared at it for a long time, thoughts swirling in his head. Eddie walked over to Dustin and motioned him to hold Stephie out while he slipped on the vest. It fit perfectly over her sweater. Eddie took his daughter in his arms, staring at her with tears filling his eyes. He didn't say anything for a long time.
"Uh, Eds, are you okay?" Steve asked.
Eddie collapsed onto his knees in front of Steve, his daughter still secured in his arms.
"I'm in love with you, Steve," Eddie said. "And I think I have been for a long time now. I just don't know why I couldn't admit it to myself. I think, maybe, I was scared because besides Wayne and the party, you're one of the best things in my life, and I didn't want to lose that. I know how risky this is. . .that I could lose you by saying this, but man, you are so worth the risk. I named my daughter after you because I wanted her so badly for her to be yours. I want you to be her daddy, and I want you to be my partner in crime. That is, if you'll have us?"
Steve collapsed in front of him, caressing his cheek and placing one hand on top of Stephie's head.
"Yeah, I'll have you. I've been waiting, I just - I was scared too," Steve whispered.
Eddie leaned forward at the same time Steve did, and their lips met in the sweetest kiss. It was soon interrupted by Stephie screeching for attention. Steve laughed as he broke away and looked down at her.
"Hi, sweet girl, I'm your daddy too," Steve sniffled.
"Well," Dustin said, clapping his hands together. "My work here is done. I'm going to find Will a boyfriend."
Will had been out for a while now, and Dustin had always wished for his best friend to find someone other than pining after Mike. Dustin loved Mike, but he could definitely be such an asshole and he always thought that Will could do better. Will was always so nice to him, and he was the most interested when it came to Dustin's creations. Dustin smiled fondly as he left Eddie's. Spoiler alert, the boyfriend Dustin found for Will ended up being himself. Whoops.

Because Neil was an abusive bellend, which we all know, Billy was never able to celebrate his birthday between the ages of 7 to 18. And before that it still felt overshadowed by the presence of Neil looming over him.
His eighteenth was a little bit different.
He’d been dating Steve for almost three months and things had been going very well, considering a month before they’d gotten together they’d beat the shit out of each other. The only thing was is that Steve INSISTED on knowing his birthday. He was a giving sort, always wanting to do something special.
Billy told him he didn’t do birthdays, never had never would. Steve grumbled something like “We’ll see about that.”
It was a nice day for March, shit compared to California but it was the best Hawkins was going to get. Neil had pissed off somewhere. Probably the best present he was going to get.
And of course Harrington fucking turned up on his doorstep at 6AM. Susan was still asleep. Max should have still been asleep but neither of them had slept a whole night in a while. More surprisingly, she was dressed and not in some shirt she’d borrowed from Billy that was too big for her.
Of course Max had told Steve his birthday. The little fucker.
Morning was surprisingly ok. Steve let him drive the Camaro as fast as he wanted, despite previous insistences that it was “a fucking death trap Hargrove.” They had pizza which Billy hadn’t had since the move. It was nice. Peaceful.
Then noon hit and Steve dragged him to the Byers. Not his mansion of a place. The Byers. The place that had almost been taken over by aliens. Romantic.
Joyce Byers opened the door, wearing a party hat. Billy briefly considered faking amnesia. No Mrs Byers, I don’t know who you are. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience caused. Bye then.
But he loved Steve and honestly, Joyce reminded him of a slightly more dishevelled version of his mom.
Most of the balloons seemed to be Bar Mitzvah themed, which was later explained to be because Will had recently had his and those were the only balloons in the house. Both Jonathan and Will were there. El, who still kind of terrified him. Max, somehow. Henderson. Sinclair. Mike Wheeler (ugh). And for some reason, Hopper.
Begrudgingly, Billy had to admit that it was fun. They had a water balloon fight, Billy got to pick all the music, he actually got given his own cake and Joyce gave him a mom hug, which may have made him cry.
Hopper tried to talk to him, which was slightly awkward considering he was well aware of Billy’s view on cops. Still, he was alright for a pig.
And then there was Steve. His genuine, sweet boyfriend who’d obviously came up with this whole thing. They held hands under the table like twelve year olds when the cake came out.
He’d had worse birthdays.

in the library there lived a hobbit
Tumblr media
Steve Harrington has always been a romantic. He spends his time in his head imagining possible futures with strangers, but one in particular has really caught his attention: the mysterious son of Wayne who comes to Baby and Me every week with his granddaughter Lucy.
When opportunity knocks, Steve is quick to suggest that this mysterious dad starts volunteering at the library. Enter Eddie Munson, a high school crush, and now Steve has to deal with the fantasy single dad he'd been imagining being real, in the library, and reading fantasy books to kids twice a week.
aka my fic for the @strangerthingsreversebigbang
Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson; Robin Buckley & Steve Harrington WC: 20k | T | No Archive Warnings Apply | Tags/Themes: Children's Librarian!Steve Harrington; Single Dad!Eddie Munson; Getting Together; Modern AU; Fluff; Fantasy/Daydreams Vs. Reality
It's been an absolute joy to bring to life @oriarts beautiful artwork please, please check it out here
And a very special thank you to @thefreakandthehair for beta-ing this for me, check out her stuff here
There's a snippet below the cut, but you can of course read the full thing now on AO3
They didn't really write advice columns for men who work with kids and suffer from terminal cases of baby fever. He knows: he's checked. Although, the reference librarian who helped him was Robin, so Steve can't really rule out the possibility that she missed something in her haste to write her own article.
Actually land a date, move out, have babies. Love the agonized aunt of your future children, Robin
It isn't like it was information he didn’t already know. Steve is very aware that he isn’t in the place for kids yet, mostly in the literal sense: romantically single, platonically in a two bedroom apartment with Robin with no space for their own stuff, let alone a kid.
So instead, for thirty-five minutes a week, he gets his fix by leading Baby & Me.
“Give you some help settin’ up, Kid?”
Steve’s startled from his mindless rhythm of setting out the chairs in the activity room and brought back from his baby-fueled drifting by one of his favorite story time guests.
“They pay me to do this; not you, Wayne,” he says, not bothering to turn all the way around. “You can fill the silence if you really want to do something though.” Steve’s set him an impossible task: Wayne is a talker the way Dustin has good manners. The only grandpa who comes to story time, he’d been coming for a month before a particularly bold widow and her youngest granddaughter got a name out of him— but not the date she’d been hoping for.
He takes his usual seat in the circle, across from where Steve is still standing, arms crossed and empty.
“Where’s?” Steve asks.
Wayne quirks his brow down. When Steve follows it all the way down to the floor, Lucy is happily making her way to them in a slow and effortful crawl across the room.
“Been doin’ that since the last time we’s here,” Wayne says.
“Is that why you all missed last week?”
“Nah,” he waves the thought away, “Lucy Joan caught a cold. Didn’t think you’d want ‘er spreadin’ it to the rest of the kids. ‘Course her Daddy was a wreck, had to pry him out with a crowbar to get him to go to work this week.”
Pink cheeked with a gummy smile, Lucy is the picture of health today. She’s made it to Steve now, tugging on his pant leg trying to stand. Crawling is going to lead quickly into walking he suspects.
She doesn’t make it to standing, her tugging taking on a new message. Steve has a rule about picking up any of the babies, a need to create personal boundaries for him and them, but her big, brown doll eyes are harder to resist each week.

Unsmooth Operator
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Femme!Reader
Summary: It’s summer in Hawkins and Eddie finds himself caught up on the cute girl working at the record store in the mall
Warnings: Reader uses she/her pronouns, brief mentions of sexual content (nothing sexual actually happens), swearing, potentially lethal levels of adorableness
A/N: First of all, sorry it’s been so long since I posted my last fic. My poor little ADHD self is a slow writer, I’m afraid. But anyway, I kind of wrote this as a sort of prequel to my Henderson!Reader fic, but there’s no direct mention of Reader being related to anyone, so you can either read it as that or not. Also, special thanks to Mr. Joseph Quinn for confirming that Eddie Munson has no game.

It’s June in Hawkins and the summer heat has already grown practically unbearable. The shitty window A/C unit Eddie’s been using has finally crapped out, and in the heat of the day the trailer is approximately the temperature of the sun. Mercifully, he’s found a sweet, air conditioned refuge in the newly built Starcourt mall, a temple to 20th century decadence and consumerism that also happens to be a very pleasant temperature inside.
Jeff and Gareth are tagging along today, which is fun except for the quick pit stop they had to make at the homegoods store so Gareth could pick up some new linens for his mom. They’ve finished that now, though, and Eddie’s already got their next destination in mind.
“I’m gonna do it”, Gareth insists as they go, “I’m gonna get a tattoo.”
“Your mom would kill you”, Jeff replies.”remember when she caught you smoking? I thought she wasn’t going to let us see you ever again after that.”
“It’s different now”, Gareth tells him, “I’m 16. I’m gonna be a junior. It’s time I make my own choices, you know?”
“Good luck with that”, Jeff laughs.
“Let’s hit the record store next”, Eddie cuts in, “I want to pick up the new Bob Dylan album for Wayne.”
“More like you wanna see the cute girl working the register”, Jeff teases.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about”, Eddie retorts, desperately hoping his cheeks aren’t actually turning as red as he thinks they are.
In truth, he does have an ulterior motive for wanting to go to the record store, and it is you. You’ve been going to Hawkins High for the past three years, but admittedly Eddie had never really been more than vaguely aware of your existence until this past semester, when you two had PE together. He had this routine he’d do where he would imitate the gym teacher when the man wasn’t looking, and it never failed to elicit a giggle from you. One day Eddie noticed how cute you looked when you laughed and well, he’s been a little bit stuck on you ever since.
“Why don’t you just ask her out?” Gareth comments, as if it’s just that easy.
Sweet, naive Gareth. Maybe for guys like Steve Harrington it’s that easy, but Eddie isn’t Steve Harrington. Gareth wasn’t there for Eddie’s early high school days. He wasn’t there during Eddie’s sophomore year when two hot juniors decided to prank him by convincing him their cheerleader friend was “super into him” or his junior year when he invited that girl from drama club to join Hellfire and she laughed out loud at him. Most girls don’t even want to be seen with Eddie “the Freak” Munson, let alone date him.
“Jeff’s talking out of his ass”, Eddie lies, “come on, let’s go.”
You are, of course, there at the counter when they walk in, and oh God, is that an Iron Maiden shirt you’re wearing? Fuck, as if he couldn’t be more into you.
“Um, Eddie, you good dude?” Gareth asks him and he realizes he’s stopped right there in the entrance of the store, just staring at you. He quickly turns away and walks the rest of the way into the store, thankful that you’re currently checking out a customer and probably didn’t notice him ogling you like a total weirdo.
Admittedly, this may not have been a good idea, at least if he wants to convince Jeff and Gareth he’s not into you. He quickly grabs a Bob Dylan tape and starts making for the door, desperate to just get out of there and spare himself anymore humiliation.
“Um, you gonna pay for that?” Jeff asks and fuck. He’s shoplifted before but he’s not interested in getting barred from the record store, so he’s not gonna risk it today.
“Right”, he mutters and then he forces himself to go up to the counter.
He feels like his heart is going to explode in his chest when he walks up and you flash him that brilliant smile of yours.
“Hi, Eddie”, you greet and his eyes grow wide because you know his name. Well, obviously you did, you had a class together, but it just sounds so good coming from your mouth that he momentarily ceases to function.
“Did you need help with something?” you ask after a moment.
“What?” Eddie asks, “oh no. Just um, just this.”
He sets the tape on the counter and you grab it to ring it up.
“Dylan”, you comment as you do, “not your usual fare.”
“It’s for my uncle”, Eddie explains, “he’s a big fan.”
“Cool”, you say, “I like your vest by the way. Dio. Nice.”
Well, that’s it. It’s over. Eddie’s done for.
“That’ll be $6.30”, you say.
“Oh, right money”, Eddie sputters and fishes a ten out of his pocket. He knows Jeff and Gareth are standing nearby, watching this all play out and probably laughing with each other about it. He’s definitely never living this down.
“You want a bag”, you ask as you finish gathering his change.
“Oh, I um, I guess”, he replies, not actually processing the question. You hand him his change, then place the tape in a bag and slide it over to him. He goes to grab it, and because he’s not at all paying attention to anything but you, inadvertently sends the display of Beach Boy tapes sitting on the counter tumbling to the floor.
“Oh shit”, he hisses, “oh fuck, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay”, you reply, coming around the counter, “I keep telling Doug he shouldn’t put that stuff so close to the register.”
You bend down to start picking up the tapes and years worth of Wayne’s lectures on behaving like a gentleman come flooding back to Eddie, so he quickly follows suit.
“Let me help you”, he says.
“Thanks”, you say and you’re smiling again and Eddie kind of wants to die.
With the two of you, it doesn’t take long to get everything cleaned up and back in order.
“I’m really sorry”, Eddie says again as you make your way back behind the counter, and then before he can stop himself, he blurts, “maybe I could make it up to you somehow?”
“What?” you ask, clearly unsure of what he means.
“I mean like, maybe I could buy you a-a coffee or something sometime”, he stammers.
You peer at him for a moment, and he braces for the inevitable rejection he’s about to endure.
“I like ice cream”, you say, “if you meet me here at 3 tomorrow, you can buy me some ice cream and we’ll call it even.”
Maybe Eddie’s already dead and this is heaven. That or he’s being punked somehow. Either way, he stands there like an idiot for a second, trying to process that you just suggested the two of you meet for ice cream.
“Um okay”, he says.
“Cool”, you grin, “see you then.”
“Right”, he says, “see you then.”
And then he’s swiping his bag from the counter and stiffly making his way back to Jeff and Gareth, his body still trapped in a state of shock.
“So”, Jeff prompts, “what was all that?”
“I um, I think I’m meeting her for ice cream tomorrow”, Eddie informs them.
The two younger boys exchange glances, mouths stretching into a matching pair of shit eating grins.
“Talking out of my ass, huh?” Jeff teases.
“Shut up”, Eddie snaps, “I’m just being polite okay? It’s not like a date or anything.”
“Sure it isn’t”, Gareth replies smugly.
“Whatever”, Eddie huffs and the others know not to continue the conversation, even if they spend the rest of the afternoon exchanging amused glances at each other.
-
Eddie waits until he’s back at the trailer to let everything sink in. When it does, he feels a vague sense of panic washing over him.
Embarrassing as it is, Eddie’s never had a real, serious girlfriend before. Hell, aside from a brief flirtation with Tammy Thompson that ended in a very awkward hand job in the school parking lot, he’s never really had any experience with girls (or boys for that matter) at all. And Tammy was the one that initiated that. He wasn’t even really into her, he was just desperate for some sort of female attention.
You, though, he is into you. Very, very much into you. And he has no idea what the hell he’s supposed to do or say. He finally, finally has a chance to go out with his dream girl, and he’s almost certainly going to say something wrong and scare you off like pretty much everyone he’s ever been into.
He wonders what the weather in Wisconsin is like this time of year, because he’s halfway to hopping in his van and heading there now, never to be seen or heard from in Hawkins, Indiana again.
Then again, maybe he’s over thinking it. It’s not like the word “date” ever came up in your conversation. Maybe this really is just him paying you back for his clumsiness, and afterwards you won’t even spare him a second thought. In the end, he figures that whatever the case, he’s not just going to leave you high and dry, so he has no choice but to go.
-
Eddie shows up outside the record store at 2:45 the next day. He stands there awkwardly, fiddling with his rings and secretly hoping that you don’t show up and he doesn’t have to deal with all of this.
No such luck though, you appear exactly at 3, looking as cute as ever in your jean skirt.
“Hey”, you greet and Eddie momentarily forgets how to speak.
“Hey”, he repeats, unable to formulate a coherent enough thought to do anything but copy your greeting.
“You ready to go?” you ask and he nods.
The record store is a fair bit away from Scoops Ahoy, and for probably the first time in his life, Eddie finds himself unsure of what exactly to say. Thankfully, you take the lead.
“So, have you heard Megadeth’s album?” you ask, “I got it the first day it came out and I love it.”
“Me too”, Eddie says, and he can feel himself being knocked out of his stupor then, “you know, my friends and I have a metal band.”
“Really?” you ask.
“Yeah”, he tells you, “we perform Wednesdays at the Hideout, if you ever want to come see us.”
“I’ll keep that in mind”, you smile and Eddie thinks his heart momentarily stops.
Walking into Scoops Ahoy with you by his side is an almost unreal experience. You and him go up to the counter and Steve Harrington is there in his little sailor suit that Eddie almost feels sorry that he’s forced to wear.
“Hey Steve”, you greet.
“Hey Y/N”, Steve replies, and then he notices that Eddie’s with you and he gets this super confused look on his face.
“So, uh, get whatever you want I guess”, Eddie says.
Once you two have ordered and gotten your ice cream, you eat it while idly wandering around the mall, just chatting about anything and everything. Eddie, as always, is frequently cracking jokes, and God is it mesmerizing to see the way you laugh in response.
It’s quite the disappointment when you’re finishing your ice cream and you’re bidding him farewell.
He knows he has to at least try to see you again so he tests the waters with a quick “that was fun, we should do it again sometime.”
“I’d like that”, you smile.
“Awesome”, he replies.
“Here”, you say, rooting around in your purse, “give me your hand.”
He obliges, and you produce a pen, which you use to scribble something onto his outstretched hand.
“What’s this?” he asks.
“My number”, you reply, “call me tonight or tomorrow?”
“Sure”, he tells you.
“Great”, you say, “I’ll see you, Eddie.”
“See you”, he says, hoping he doesn’t sound as absolutely lovesick to you as he does to himself.
You flash him one final smile before departing, and he just stands there awkwardly for a second, watching as you go. Once you’ve disappeared from sight and he’s snapped out of his trance, he peers down at the numbers you’d scrawled onto his hand. He has to remind himself that it’d be weird to get them tattooed onto himself permanently. He can’t believe that it worked. You went on a date with him, in public, and didn’t care if you were seen together. You laughed at his jokes. You gave him his number and asked to see him again. You liked him.
The trailer is as unbearably hot as ever when he returns, but for once, he doesn’t care. He’s too excited to call you later and hopefully set up another date.

Chapter 7
Eddie's POV
Eddie hadn’t heard from you for almost 2 weeks. He was beside himself with worry. At the party, had been discussing with Chrissy about his costume when Argyle came up to him, rambling about you rushing out the door. Eddie felt his stomach sink. He was originally looking for you, but Chrissy had stopped him.  She asked him what he was, and Eddie began playing off as the goofy class clown he was known as so as to hide the hurt she caused when he had last seen her.
After Argyle let him know about you rushing out the door, Eddie looked everywhere for you. The bookstore at the corner of Hawkins Town Square where you loved to thumb through stacks of old and well loved books. The coffee shop that doubled as a bar that was open late on the edge of campus, where you loved curling up on the velour dark green loveseat. Mr. Frosty’s, where you and Eddie first felt a tug to one another. You were nowhere to be found.
Eddie had called you over and over, voice raw by the 50th voicemail. His heart had felt sore, his mind swimming with worries. You were so strong and consistently hid your true feelings, trying to appear perfect. Eddie never pried too far, scared to push you away.
By 4 am, Eddie returned home, a small part of his heart hoping you would be on his sofa, the extra key he had given you in use. But he came into an empty and cold apartment, not a soul in sight.
Eddie had seen you the following week in class, later than usual, sitting in the back. He felt relief flooding his veins, about to speak to you once the class was over. However, he was stumped after you rushed out of class, feeling stung.
He asked around, no one seeming to know what happened to you to have you give Eddie the cold shoulder. To have you look so…hollow.
Until he got to Robin.
He had begged her to tell him what happened, her eyes betraying her with worry and nervousness. She sighed, giving in slightly but her answer just puzzled Eddie even more.
“Look Eddie, I can’t tell you. It’s not my place. Just give her some time, okay?”
Eddie couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t eat. He felt his heart sink deeper and deeper the longer this went on. You didn’t answer texts or calls. He felt like his stability was crumbling.
But he clung to the hope that something would change.
Tumblr media
Eddie had waited until the two weeks were over to text you via Steve’s phone.
Can we talk?
He felt his heart leap out of his chest when you responded.
Sure
I can head over around 4
Just don’t tell Eddie, k?
Eddie’s stomach twisted in knots, guilt consuming him. He shouldn’t have pretended to be Steve, and it was clear that Steve was aware of the situation but was staying out of it. He just wanted his old best friend back. Or at least to apologize.
Tumblr media
Eddie waited by the door, pacing back and forth, his insides flopping like a fish. He didn’t know how you’d react to the set up. Or if you would even stay.
A knock sounded at the door, causing Eddie to jump and his heart to beat faster. He opened the door, staying behind it as you walked in, rambling. You were clearly frazzled, still in your work polo, a cup of iced coffee in one hand and your keys in the other. Eddie let you talk, his heart pounding as he softly closed the door, your back to him.
“Look, I don’t know what Robin told you but I just need some space and time. I know-”
“Bug…,” Eddie softly interrupted, hands shaking as he let the familiar nickname escape his mouth.
You froze in place, turning around to look at Eddie. His heart broke as he saw your tired eyes and almost sickly face. You looked on the verge of tears. Your hands tightened on your coffee, your knees a bit shaky.
“Eddie…Did you text me?,” You asked, your voice quivering with emotion. Eddie couldn’t pinpoint exactly what the feeling was but he felt a tug at his heart. He nodded, causing you to sigh shakily, your shoulders slumping.
“I…I have to go,” You muttered, eyes glassy with unshed tears, trying to rush past Eddie to the door.
Eddie felt panic prick at his nerves as he stepped in front of you, eyes sorrowful and longing. He leaned down to meet your gaze that was trying to focus on the welcome mat at the door.
“Please…Just…tell me what happened? I can’t stand this…I miss my best friend,” Eddie choked out, his throat tightening as he felt the prick of tears at the back of his eyes. His hands clenched and unclenched, trying to reach out to you.
You bit your lip, looking at Eddie's shaky hands. You stayed quiet for a bit. Finally, when you spoke up, your voice was thick with tears, Eddie realizing as they ran down your face, your soft sniffles practically echoing in the room. “I don’t want to lose you… But I can’t be friends anymore,” You sobbed, your shoulders shaking.
Eddie felt his heart shatter, his hands shaking as he tried to reach out to touch you but stopped himself, clenching his fist. He was desperate at this point. His words flowed out without any walls up, a rare occasion for the Munson boy.
“Please, I’ll do anything. Hell, I’ll even beg. Just let me know what I did wrong, or what happened… You’re the best person I’ve ever met and I’d be lost without you…I miss our sleepovers, our late night talks, our cuddle sessions, the way you talk me down from an anxiety attack…the way we are both so different yet so alike. You’re like this bright star full of warmth and I can’t stand the thought of losing you and never knowing how in the world I fucked up so badly, I-,” Eddie rushed out, sobs shaking his tall frame, his nose and eyes tinged red now, his eyes stinging from the salty tears.
You shook softly, crying as Eddie rambled, shaking your head. “I just… God it’s pathetic…”
Eddie came closer, grabbing your shoulder softly to try and look into your eyes despite his blurred vision. “P-please, Bug. Please…”
You looked up at the ceiling rather than Eddie, your tears flowing steadily. Eddie felt his heart break once again. Girls full of mystery and humbleness and sunshine through the clouds and soft cozy days shouldn’t sob. At least not because of their idiot fucked up and grumpy metalhead friends.
“I… I like you Eddie. I have for a while. You’re easy to be around and always know what to say and do. You’re so unapologetically…you. And I tried to push down the feelings and ignore them. It was working. For a while, at least. But then I saw you with that girl at the party and heard Steve mention some hot girl you liked and…I couldn’t handle the hurt. I’m sorry,” Your voice shook as you tried to keep your voice calm and without letting the sobs wrack your body.
Eddie’s heart somehow lifted up into his throat and sank into his shoes at the same time. How did he not see it before? He had been so blindsided by trying to ignore his own budding feelings for you that he hurt you.
You looked so tired and shaky, eyes still avoiding him. You tried to brush past him yet again. Eddie felt his heart leap as he rushed to grab your hand, stopping you.
“Bug…please…I like you too.”
You turned with a humorless laugh, eyes still glossy but you were holding back tears. Eddie felt a prick of confusion and hurt.
“Yeah right, Eds. Just, please don’t lie to me. It’s okay. I’ll get over it,” You sighed, voice sharp with hurt.
“I’m not lying,” Eddie said sternly, his eyes trying to peer into your own. You looked at him for the first time since entering through his door, your face guarded from emotion despite your eyes.
“Eddie…you’re you. And I’m me. You have a different person over every week, you have a reputation. I'm a boring college girl with a thankless snitchy job and no one tries to come on to me. Just…stop lying,” You said bitterly, your voice soft despite the sharp edges in your words.
Eddie felt his blood boil and his heart squeezed with sorrow. How could you not see everything you meant to him? How could you not see how funny and unique you were? How amazing and accomplished? “Look, maybe I’m Eddie ‘The Manwhore’ Munson, but I’ve stopped hooking up with people. For a while now. Since I’ve known you. I was talking to Chrissy at the party and joking around because she asked about my costume. But I wasn’t flirting. I hadn’t seen her since early September.”
You looked away, folding in on yourself, your shoulders deflated. Eddie couldn’t stand the pout on your lips, the furrow on your brow. He wanted to kiss them away.
“You’re all I’ve thought of and the only person I’ve ever needed so strongly in my life. You’re so amazing and you don’t even see it, Bug. Let me show you. Please,” Eddie pleaded, tilting your chin up to look at him, your eyes wide and full of fear and shock. He felt his heart trying to break free of his ribcage, his emotions coming over him in waves. His eyes flitted back and forth between your parted lips and red rimmed eyes, the invisible tug towards you strong. Your eyelids fluttered as you nodded, sighing out softly.
Eddie leaned down slowly, still holding your chin in his hand before softly kissing your lips, his mouth slightly chapped against your soft mouth. He was gentle and slow, holding your jaw as if he was scared you’d break. When you finally pulled away, you both stared at each other. Eddie saw the clear shock and flustered expression on your face, reveling in your sudden shyness.
“See,” He teased in a soft whisper. “I like you, dumbass.”
You smiled softly up at him, laughing a bit.
Eddie’s heart soared. You were worth the risk.

Royal Pain Part 9
Hello! Thank you so much for the out pouring of support last time. I love that everyone loved the tattoo idea. If you want to see a basic idea of what it would look like, check the reblogs of part 8 (though if I had the energy I would throw into an editing program I’d skinny up the sword a bit and make the wings wider).
We meet the candidates for the apprenticeship and we learn the history of Jeff’s tattoo (warning for racism and bad cops) and Eddie’s reason for the wings.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
*
Steve walked back to the front the little paper in his shaking hands.
“I’ve already had a couple people this morning asking about the apprentice gig,” Robin told him. “When should I have them come in?”
Steve rubbed him bottom lip thoughtfully. “I don’t have to go to Dustin’s until 5pm on Sunday, so have them all come at 10am then.”
Robin nodded. “He choose a design then?” she asked, nodded to the paper in his hand.
Steve nodded back his lips pressed together as he handed it to her to scan.
She looked down at it in shock. “He picked this one?”
Steve nodded again, unsure if he could trust himself to speak.
“This is going to take a long time and a lot of money,” Robin whispered. “He’s aware of that, yeah?”
“Yeah,” Steve croaked. “He knows. He was very insistent and is able to pay for it. All of it.”
Robin nodded. “Then let’s get this bad boy printed for him then.”
She printed it into three pieces. One for each wing and one for the sword.
When he came back into the room, Eddie was laying on his chest with his shirt off. Steve licked his lips as his eyes trailed down the plains of Eddie’s back to where it dipped into the man’s jeans.
This was going to be a lot harder than he thought it was going to be.
“Okay,” Steve said after taking a moment to compose himself. “What we are going to do is trace the outlines and then we’ll spend two to three hours each week, working on it. It will probably take about ten to twelve weeks, doing it once a week. So if you want to move it up two days a week, I would recommend that.”
Eddie twisted to face him. “Yeah, I figured it was going to take some time. When I set up my appointments with Robin, I’ll make sure to do twice a week.”
“Sounds good,” Steve said, pulling on the latex gloves and sitting down. He scooted as close to Eddie as he could and picked his gun.
“You know,” he murmured over the sound of the gun. “I don’t think you ever said why you wanted the tattoo so badly you waited to find the right person to do it for you. And thanks for trusting me with it by the way.”
“You’re welcome,” Eddie said. “The work you did on Jeff’s tattoo was phenomenal. It was a very personal tattoo for him and you made it special. Did he tell you how got the scar he wanted you to cover up?”
Steve hummed, placing the first stencil down. “Yeah, something about how when Miranda and him first starting dating, someone called the cops on him, thinking he was kidnapping her. And how despite both of them saying they were on a date and Jeff having his hands up, the cop still fired, hitting his right arm.”
Eddie nodded. “It was messed up. He thought for sure Miranda was going to book it, but they stayed together and it’s been five years now.”
“So he got it for the fifth anniversary?” Steve asked, concentrating on the outline.
“Yeah,” Eddie said. “It was Miranda’s suggestion, actually.”
“They seem like great people.”
Eddie smiled fondly. “The best. I think he’s still working up the courage to ask her to marry him.”
Steve laughed. “He better hurry up otherwise Robin might try and steal her from him.”
Eddie laughed too. “Well considering they both swing for both teams, she might actually have a chance.”
“Oh god,” Steve said as he finished the first wing. “Don’t tell Robin that. She might actually try. And I don’t want to mess up a good thing, you know?”
“Fair.”
Eddie chewed on his bottom lip a moment. “But, yeah, the tattoo. It’s to commemorate a poor boy from the trailer park making it in the big city to play music for a living. Actually fucking making it.”
Steve smiled. “And the bat wings were for the aesthetic?”
“Hell yeah they are,” Eddie replied with a grin. “But, holy shit, Stevie. The sword of fucking Kas...it’s like you read my mind or some shit.”
Steve lifted the gun as he laughed. “Nah, I just listened when you and Dustin talked about it.”
Eddie adjusted himself in the chair and loosened the muscles in his shoulders a bit. He settled and nodded. “You did really good, sweetheart. I love it.”
They just fell into conversation as easy as breathing and far too soon Steve was done with the outline.
Steve pulled off his gloves, having set aside the gun already. “Go on, it’s not much to look at right now, but the bare bones are pretty fucking all right.’’
Eddie immediately bounced to his feet to go look in the mirror. He turned every direction and after a moment of watching him Steve stood up with a large hand mirror and tilted it until Eddie could see his back.
Eddie let out a gasp. “Holy fucking shit. This is going to be so epic. I can’t wait!”
Steve smiled fondly. “I’m glad it’s starting out okay, at least.”
Eddie grinned at him through the mirror. “It’s absolutely wicked.”
“Do you have someone who can rub the lotion on your back?” Steve asked, biting his bottom lip.
Eddie nodded. “The guys have offered to take turns helping me with it until it’s done.”
Steve hummed. He was a little disappointed. He was going to offer to do it for him. But it was a bit of a relief, knowing Eddie had such good friends that were willing to take care of him.
“That’s sweet of them,” he murmured, taking the time to gently wrap the tattoo the best he could in Saran wrap to protect it on the way home.
Eddie scoffed. “They only offered because they’re excitable children who want a sneak peak at the tattoo before anyone else.”
Steve huffed out a laugh. “Yeah, okay. That sounds like what I’d seen of them.”
Eddie turned around once Steve was done and grinned at him. “Am I going to see you at Nightmare Holes again this weekend?”
Steve winced. “I want to but I can’t this weekend. I’m meeting a couple people on Sunday morning morning and I cannot be hungover for that.’
Eddie huffed out a small chuckle. “Maybe.”
Steve shoved at him playfully. “I’ll make it up to you. Why don’t you come over again next Monday and I’ll make dinner for us again.”
Eddie’s eyes lit up. “That sounds great, wha’cha making?”
“What do you like?” Steve asked as he cleaned up. “Italian, Chinese, Mexican? Something else? I’m sure I could find a good recipe in time.”
Eddie tapped his lip with his index finger thoughtfully. “Can you do sesame chicken?”
Steve grinned. “Oh, I knew there was a reason I liked you. I love sesame chicken and have a kick ass recipe, I think you’ll love.”
Eddie grinned back. “Can’t wait pretty boy.”
Steve flicked his cleaning rag at Eddie’s ass. “Now go on, some of us poor schlubs have to work hard for our living, rock star.”
Eddie laughed in delight as he skipped away from Steve’s deadly aim with his rag. He got to the door and saluted, before turning on his heel and walking back to the front desk, shirt in hand.
*
Steve picked up a dozen donuts and coffees for him and Robin. Robin had already gone in to open the shop for the interviewees so he felt he owed it to her to at least get her coffee and donuts.
When he got to the shop he was a little surprised how many cars were out front. They couldn’t all be there for the apprenticeship, could they? He walked into see the entire waiting room filled with applicants.
He turned to Robin and she looked as shocked as he was. He set the donuts in front Robin’s desk and handed her the coffee.
“Hello,” he said turning around to greet the...he quickly counted, the six hopefuls. “I’m Steve Harrington and welcome to Royal Pain. You’re all welcome to have a donut and we have water and paper cups over to the side.” He gestured to where it was and most head turned to see where he meant.
“Is this really a tattoo parlor, man?” one of the applicants asked. He was what Steve would have stereotyped a California surfer boy. Bleach blond hair that fell to his shoulders, tanned skin, dark blue eyes that were currently glaring at Steve.
Steve let his shoulders roll back as he regarded the man in question. “What? The bright, colorful design precludes it from being a place people come to get tattoos, how?”
The guy leveled another glare at Steve and then leapt to his feet. “Whatever, this blows. I’m out of here.” He stormed out, pushing the door so hard it clanged against the wall harshly.
Steve looked at the remaining five. “Anyone else have a problem with the aesthetics?”
There were people that exchanged glances, but they ended up all shaking their heads no.
“Good.”
A pretty blonde girl with bright green eyes and a sparkling smile raised her hand.
“Yes?” Steve asked pointing at her.
“Not to be lumped in with the asshole that just left,” she began shyly, “but I really don’t see any tattoos on you and, well...”
Steve grinned. “And it makes it a little hard to trust me as a tattoo artist, right?”
She nodded, her high pony tail bouncing as she did.
Robin rolled her eyes, but wisely said nothing. Steve showed her his right forearm. “I didn’t do this one, this is the first tattoo I got though.” It was of a small vanilla ice cream cone. “I got this after my first real job at an ice cream shop that burned down.”
A lot of eyebrows shot up at that, but no one uttered a word.
He pulled at his collar showing a female robin on his shoulder right below the clavicle. “Got this one when my best friend turned twenty-one. She has a matching tattoo in the same place.”
He pulled up his shirt to show a lion devouring a bloody heart on his right side. “My friends called my lion-hearted, my detractors called me a bleeding heart, so I got this.”
Steve put his shirt down. “Yeah, I don’t look like your stereotypical tattoo artist that has their whole body covered in tats. But I’m one of those weirdos that only gets a tattoo if it means something to me. But make no mistake I’m good. I have had this shop for three years and only been a tattooist for five. And I’m taking on apprentices because this shop is so busy I need the help to lighten the load.”
The girl blushed. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” he said, heaving a heavy sigh. “People who look like me don’t usually become tattoo artists and I think that’s stupid. It shouldn’t just be a certain kind of person that has dyed black hair, piercings, and their body of work all over their body.”
She nodded. “I get what you mean.”
Steve smiled at her. “I figured you would.” He knew that if she was any good, he was going to pick her, hands down.
“Right,” he said turning his attention back to everyone. “I wasn’t expecting so many of you and I realize that isn’t fair to you. If you have somewhere else to be today, make an appointment with Robin,” he cocked his head her direction, “and I’ll meet with you personally at another time. But otherwise, I’ll have Robin call you in the order you arrived and we’ll talk in my room.”
He clapped his hands. “First, let’s give you a tour of the place and if you decide it’s not for you. No hard feelings. Except that guy.” He winked at them and they laughed.
He showed them his room and the other rooms that would be for the apprentices to practice in or once they got their own chair if they stayed, it would become their room.
One of the other guys decided that it wasn’t for him and Steve was left with four remaining hopefuls.
And what a strange bunch they were, too. He had the prep girl, but he also had a native boy that while he didn’t look the part of the surfer dude, embodied it with his very soul. If the guy got brought on, Steve would have to pull him aside and make sure he didn’t do marijuana at work, because the guy looked a little baked at the moment. He also had a Goth chick complete with the tattoos and piercings, and dyed black hair. She stuck out like a sore thumb, if Steve was honest. And the final hopeful was  this squirrely looking guy with dark wavy brown hair.
All of them had more tattoos than Steve did.
He sighed to himself. He wasn’t sure this was going to work out. He knew he shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, better than most, but still as he looked at the remaining applicants he felt a little disappointed.
He sighed and went back to the office to wait for Robin to call the first one in. It was going to be a long day.

Look, I love Robin with all my heart, but we all know the reason she didn’t ask Vickie out wasn’t that she had a boyfriend, but that her partner was a boy. She would 100% back off if told to, but she would so go for it if she thought had a chance. (Looking at you Ronance shippers, if you think that Robin was flirting with Nancy in the Upside Down, Nancy was still with Jonathan at the time.)

Robin Buckley is autistic-coded. And I love it.
Tumblr media
The line: "I don’t really have a filter or a strong grasp of social cues" is such an important line. It's always so refreshing to see such positive neurodivergent representation in female characters. Robin is highly intelligent, highly empathetic and struggles to contextualise and understand social situations but she is shown to be genuine and honest.
It's realistic that she doesn't have a diagnosis of ASD, given that this show is set in the 1980's and autism in females is so misunderstood still today, in 2022.
She says she is aware that her coming across as "mean or condescending" is a "flaw" because her "mother reminds (her) me everyday", which is something so common in undiagnosed autistic people.
We know from season three that Robin wasn't overly popular at school, and was the sort of student that played band and got high grades. We know that Robin doesn't do well when talking about her emotions and she can be quite straight to the point in conversations. She struggles to make friends and has quite a monotone way of speaking. I think it's been hinted at that her special interests may be movies, languages and band.
Additionally, she's shown to have sensory issues with particular textures when she talks about hating wearing certain clothing.
Robin is so well-liked, too. So having her coded to be autistic is such a lovely reminder that being autistic is okay. I think we all need that sometimes.
I headcanon she also has Dyspraxia because she says, and I quote, "I should warn you, I have terrible co-ordination. It took me like 6 months longer to learn to walk than the other babies." She can't run. I can't run very well. She has Dyspraxia. And that's co-morbid with ASD.
Also, there have been studies to show that autistic people are more likely to be LGBTQ+, so it makes sense. Robin is 100% an autistic lesbian and I love her.
Anyways, I haven't seen autism portrayed in a female character this well since Phoebe Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife; these 80's set series and films really are giving us the most incredible representation.
Thank you, Stranger Things. This is such a genuine portrayal of autism. Thank you.
Edit: I'm seeing a lot of people saying that Robin wasn't neurodivergent in season three and I just wanted to add that masking is a thing. Robin didn't know Steve well enough to feel comfortable to lower that mask before. There are hints that she is autistic even in season three, like when she really struggles to find the words to describe how she's feeling and rambles when faced with difficult situations.
In fact, Steve even has to tell her that she "wasn't helping" when El was trying to sort out her leg in the mall scene. The hints were there all along but season four gave us an unmasked Robin and I am so grateful for that.

Despite Eddie promising that the two of you would be inseparable you didn’t see him again after that. Even going as far as peaking out your window hoping to catch a glimpse of that wild mane of his shamelessly trying to orchestrate an ‘accidental’ run in. Convincing yourself it was because you were bored not because you wanted to see his dimples again. His van never seemed to be there between normal working hours, of course he must’ve had a full time job he was 20.
So when Friday rolled around and your Chevy Nova pulled into the parking lot of your new job with a loud squeal, you were ready for some solid human interaction. Reaching over to pop open your glovebox, your eyes lock with the rolled joint courtesy of Eddie’s Munson’s free weed. After work joints were a favorite past time of yours deciding tonight would be a good time to continue the tradition.
Your driver door opens with it’s usual loud creak, the cringe on your face never going away no matter how many times it happens. Wiping your sweaty nervous palms on the dark denim of your jeans, the converse on your feet bring you to the entrance.
Bells chime loudly when you walk in, standing in the front you glance around the store thats filled wall to wall with any kind of movie any one in this small town could ever want. There’s a faint smell of popcorn which you find odd considering it wasn’t an actual movie theater, with American Werewolf in London playing quietly in the background you don’t think you’ll hate it here. Racking your brain you desperately try to remember the name of the guy you were suppose to be asking for. The magic of being surrounded by movies finally fading with reality kicking in. You knew it started with an ‘S’ was it Stan? Stu?
“Is there some kind of beauty pageant in Hawkins I wasn’t aware of Robin?” The smooth voice of the boy resting on the counter in front of you catches your attention. He’s got the kind of hair a model would kill for and a smile that’s worth a million bucks. Resisting the urge to roll your eyes, your smart enough to catch the green family video vest wrapped around his broad shoulders.
The striped polo underneath it definitely does the boy favors, with pants so tight they are almost enough to make your cheeks turn hot. Eye’s flickering down you catch the ‘Steve’ on his name tag. Holding back an internal groan you remember exactly who you were suppose to ask for.
“Steve Harrington?”
The smile on his face only widens with a flirtatious twinkle in his eyes as he pushes himself off the counter “And she knows my name already, this must be my lucky day.”
The girl he referred to as Robin catches on before he does, with a loud laugh her honey colored waves bounce as she throws her head back.
“Way to hit on the new girl dingus.”
Steve’s cheeks flush deep red when he realizes his mistake, hazel eyes going wide when they meet yours drowning with embarrassment.
“Oh man, this is awkward. Look that was super inappropriate. I’m so sorry, please don’t quit.” The confident demeanor he was putting on suddenly gone, leaving nothing but a nervous rambling boy in his place.
“Do you always hit on the customers?” Cocking a brow you cross your arms over your chest, the corner of your lips turning up. Just like Eddie you were enjoying watching him squirm. Something about humiliating boys bringing you joy, especially cocky boys like Steve Harrington.
“No-“
“Absolutely he does, you’ll get used to it.” The girl behind the counter cuts him off before making her way around. Her tuxedo top, rolled up to her elbows makes her look like an 80’s dream. With a black tie wrapped tightly around the neck of her button up tucked into her high waisted slacks she’s the epitome of cool even with the green vest.
“I’m Robin by the way.” Extending her hand she gives you a sweet smile showing her perfect white teeth.
“I’m y/n.” Wrapping your hand around hers, you glance back at Steve. “I’ll forgive you just this once, but only because it clearly hasn’t been working for you.”
Robin’s laugh echos again when she drops your hand, pinching the bridge of his nose Steve makes his way passed both of you going back behind the counter mumbling under his breath about grabbing you a vest.
“Look, if this is going to be a new dynamic here. The kind where you two gang up on me, I’m not going to be okay with that.” He doesn’t look at either one of you while he’s talking, rummaging through the drawers underneath the registers until he finds a slightly used looking vest.
“Aww calm down Stevie, we’re just having fun. It’s not like I haven’t made fun of your poor attempts at picking up unsuspecting women at work before.” Robin grins eating up Steve’s irritation.
The day is spent watching cheesy training videos in the small back room that looks like it hadn’t been cleaned in years, both of them taking turns checking in on you. When you make it on the sales floor after a few hours of mindless torture you realize Robin was right. Not only did you get used to Steve’s over the top pick up lines, but against your better judgment you couldn’t help but find yourself entertained by the relentless-ness of his determination. Watching Steve get turned down more times then you could count you were shocked at how fast your first day went. Laughing and falling into easy banter with the two of them, there was a small part of you that wasn’t ready for your shift to end.
—-
The night air has a sharp chill to it when the three of you close up, looking up at the clear sky you still couldn’t get over how many stars you could see out here. Losing yourself for a second it’s only when Robin grabs the back of your arm you remember where you are.
“Everything good?” Her eyes are soft on you.
“Oh- um yeah. We just didn’t have stars like this in the city. It’s beautiful out here.” Giving her a reassuring smile Steve snorts at your words.
“Hawkins? Beautiful? You absolutely just moved here.” Shrugging on his grey jacket he tosses his keys in the air before catching them with a wink.
“You love to show off don’t you?” Teasing Steve was becoming one of your favorite things. You couldn’t help but feel excited about the prospect of making friends with the two of them. Your new mysterious one missing in action.
“No need to show off sweetheart, I’m just that good.” Steve’s cockiness makes Robin give him a hard shove as the three of you make your way to your cars.
“A Chevy Nova? Niiiiice.” Steve heckles with a grin when he sees your car parked adjacent to his. Yours rusted and old, his shiny and new.
“Not all of us can drive BMW’s Steve.” Rolling your eyes, your fingers dig through your purse for your keys.
“Last I checked she actually has her own place. Aren’t you two the same age?” Robin smirks opening the passenger side door of Steve’s car.
Of course he was taking Robin home, the closeness of the two obvious best friends makes your heart swell with a mixture of admiration and jealousy.
“Yeah, yeah keep it up or you’re walking home.” Opening the driver side Steve leans forward arms resting over the door and the roof. “All jokes aside I’m glad Keith didn’t hire someone lame. Remember Tammy Thompson?” Looking towards his friend she makes an exaggerated show of rolling her eyes nodding her head.
“You did great!” Robin gives you a double thumbs up enthusiastically. The gesture making a small smile spread over your face.
You mimic Steve’s stance on your own car “Yeah, I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I was going too. Even if Steve did hit on me when I first walked in.”
Robin throws her head back loving having someone else who’s not charmed by his slick tongue and pseudo confidence.
“Look can we just forget that happened okay?” Pinching the bridge of his nose for the millionth time that day, you were figuring out this was a signature stance.
“Never, I’m never going to let you forget it Harrington.” Throwing him a wink you give Robin a small wave before getting into your car. Eager hands already reaching for what you’d been looking forward to all day.
Steve’s headlights flood the inside of your dark car, when he doesn’t make any moves to pull out it takes you a minute to realize that he’s waiting for you to leave first. He was making sure you were safe.
Maybe the city had hardened your heart but you weren’t used to strangers having your best interests in mind like this. The simple gesture is enough to make your chest tighten.
With the windows rolled down the bitter night air feels good running through your hair. Inhaling deeply you blow the smoke out into the darkness of the back roads, Bat Out of Hell playing so loud it makes your speakers shake. Your mind can’t help but wander to Eddie, the nickname Wayne gave him few nights prior seemed nothing short of fitting. The thought of the two men makes your lips twitch up despite your best efforts. The fleeting beginnings of happiness settling deep in your chest as your tires speed down the pavement, doing the unthinkable you let yourself feel it.
The hope you had felt after you met your new neighbors grows ten fold when you think about your first day with Steve and Robin. The new feeling of excitement radiates through your finger tips as they tap against the steering wheel. Singing loudly and off tune, you finally let yourself take the breath you had been holding onto for the past few years. You finally made the right choice, the first time in your whole life.
Hitting the entrance of the trailer park, you turn the music down not wanting to be on the receiving end of Wayne’s annoyance. When your headlights hit their trailer the boy you’d been trying to catch a glimpse of the past few days is right in front of you. A group of kids who couldn’t be any older then 15 surround him, with arms flailing animatedly all of them seemed to be getting into some kind of heated argument. Brows furrowing, you notice all of their matching baseball tee’s. Hellfire Club.
By the time you pull into your drive way you’ve caught Eddie’s attention. Chocolate eyes on you, the dimples you definitely weren’t thinking about show themselves when his lips pull up into a smile. Ignoring the arguing boys in front of him, he shoves passed them making long strides towards your car as you start getting out.
“There’s my new best friend!” Arms spread wide his smile only grows bigger showing his teeth.
His loud outburst makes the kids stop fighting, one with particularly curly hair covered in a baseball cap quirks his head at you.
“Who’s that?” His voice has a slight lisp to it and you can’t help but think it’s cute. The one he spoke to had long black hair that looked eerily similar to the metal head’s that was walking towards you.
“I didn’t know he knew any girls.” The only one without a Hellfire shirt speaks up, wearing the same letterman jacket as the guys from the other night piecing together that they must be in high school. The three boys watch both of you with curious eyes.
“Well, well if it isn’t Mr. disturb the peace himself.” A teasing smirk pulls at the corner of your lips. Crossing your arms over your chest you lean back against your car, the heat of the drive keeping the metal and your body warm.
“I’ll have you know, I don’t resent that title at all.” The wink he gives you makes your stomach flutter and you do your best to ignore it.
The smile on Eddie’s face only widens when he reaches you, standing in front of him makes you realize just how tall he actually is. Craning your neck up to meet his doe eyes, you can’t help but match his excited energy. Your own cheeks hurting from how hard he was making you grin.
“Care to tell me why your hanging out with children on a Friday night? And also why you’re all in matching shirts?”
“Why? You jealous? You want one?” Rocking back on his heels he clasps his hands behind his head making his shirt ride up, your proud of the self control you maintain when your eyes don’t flicker down.
“As metal looking as they are, I have no idea what Hellfire club is. Is it that satanic cult you were trying to get me to join the other night?” Arching your brow with a teasing smirk it was far too easy to slip in your usual banter with him.
Glancing over his shoulder you see the kids are watching you with baited breath.
“That’s a hefty invite to get, I don’t think we’re there yet. It’s the DND club I run.” You can’t help but take notice in the prideful look in his eyes when he says it.
“Don’t tell me that the Eddie Munson is a Dungeon Master. ” Batting your eyelashes at him you play into his ego just a little bit.
When his cheeks flush pink your own ego grows slightly.
“Yes M’lady you are in the presence greatness. I’m not just any Dungeon Master, I’m the Dungeon Master sweetheart. Just ask those destroyed little sheep over there.” Turning around he points at the three boys who quickly try to act like they weren’t opening staring at whatever was unfolding right in front of them.
Giving them a little wave you chuckle to yourself at how awkward they get before clambering into Eddie’s van arguing in hushed voices.
“Are you their baby sitter or something?” Eddie’s eyes widen at your question when he turns back to you.
“Uhh not exactly.” Fidgeting with his rings he stops making eye contact, the ground suddenly becoming interesting.
“What do you-“
“What are you doing right now?” Eddie cuts you off before you can press further bringing his attention back to you, excitement dancing in his brown pools like he just got a brilliant idea.
“Like right now, right now?” Pushing yourself off the car you look down at your watch. Red numbers reading 9:45pm flash back at you.
“Well not right this second but like 40 minutes from now? I just got to take these little idiots home but after that I gotta make some runs. I could use a co pilot...” Raising his eyebrows at you he watches the wheels in your head turn. “Besides I know my Uncle offered up my tour guide services free of charge to you.”
“You’re gonna give me a tour in the middle of the night?” Giving him a hard time, you already know you’re going to say yes.
“That’s the perfect time, all the assholes are inside.” Flashing you a toothy grin he starts backwards towards his van. “Be outside in 30.”
“You just said 40!” The butterflies can’t be ignored this time at the thought of spending the entire evening with him.
“I drive fast, bring whatever music you want. I’ll even let you set the mood that’s how nice I am.” Throwing a wink your way he turns around jogging the rest of the way to his van. The curly haired boy’s head sticks out the driver side window, a knowing smirk spread wide over his face.
“Oh okay buddy, I see you.” His eyes squint when his cheeks push up, a look of pure joy.
“Can it Henderson, get in your seat.” You can’t help but laugh at Eddie’s sharp tone with the kid, the sweet sound makes him turn his head one last time flashing you a quick smile before jumping in.
Starting his van with a loud rumble, you watch him peel out with Metallica back at the volume that got him flicked between the eyes. Completely ignoring his Uncle’s warning, something tells you it won’t be the last time you see that argument happen.
—-
“Are you seriously going to make me listen to Meatloaf?” Eddie scoffs grabbing the cassette from your hand.
“First of all you said I could pick the music, and I told you the other night that I loved him. Specifically mentioned Meatloaf while addressing your question about Metallica.” Crossing your arms your staring up at him again only this time next to the passenger door of his van.
Rolling his eyes his wiggles the tape in his hand “Yeah, yeah, yeah I guess I did say that.”
“I could just go have the relaxing night alone I had planned if you’d rather not listen to my music choice.” Arching your brow you pretend not to be hyper aware of his reaction.
“Whoa, whoa whoa sweetheart, lets not get crazy here.” Opening the door for you it creaks loudly just like yours. Eddie’s face turning into your familiar cringe.
The warmth of his calloused hand makes you jump when it comes in contact with your skin. Fingers wrapping gently around yours he helps you take the giant step into his van. Heat prickling at your cheeks too shy to meet his eyes you climb into the passenger seat. When he lets go and shuts the door you pretend like you don’t miss the feeling of his touch.
The smell of cigarettes and weed hit your nose first, there’s an underlining hint of drug store cologne that lingers faintly behind it. It was Eddie’s smell trapped and encapsulated inside the metal confines of his van. Inhaling deeply it’s oddly comforting to you, closing your eyes you let yourself enjoy it before he’s opening the drivers side door. Still not ready to meet his gaze you begin snooping around. Turning around in your seat you can’t stop grin that spreads over your face. With the back seats removed the empty space was filled with giant blankets and fluffy pillows. Warn in and well loved you could already picture him lounged out with a joint dangling from his lips lost in his music thats always being played too loud.
“Admiring my office?” You don’t realize how close his face is to yours till you turn around ready to respond.
Eddie Munson’s giant brown eyes are only inches from yours and it’s almost enough to make you forget how to breath for a second. The self control you were so proud to have doesn’t exist in the close quarters of his van, eyes dropping down to his lips it’s hard for you to look away. When his tongue licks over his bottom lip, you realize he’s doing the same thing.
“You call this an office?” Snorting your the one that breaks the tension. The breath he’d been holding fans hot across your cheeks. “This looks like Cheech and Chongs hang out spot.”
“I am a pot dealer if you don’t remember?” Shaking his head with grin he finally pulls out of your personal space. “Besides it weirdly makes the first time buyers comfortable, gotta keep them coming back sweetheart.”
Turning the key in the ignition the van shakes with the start of the engine, settling into your seat you reach over clicking your seat belt into place ignoring the feeling of Eddie’s burning stare.
“Yes?” Meeting his eyes you try to read the expression on his face.
“I’m just going to give you the agenda for the evening, you know as a good tour guide should.”Raising his eye brows he waits for you to nod encouraging him to continue.
“First, we’re gonna drive to my buddy Rick’s house so I can pick up some new supply. Then there’s just a few people I gotta drop off too, it’ll be super quick.” He waves his hand as he continues like the boring stuff was done. “But after that, I thought I could show you some of my favorite smoking spots. Places I like to go to clear my head.”
“I don’t know Munson, sounds like you’re trying to get me high in the back of your van.” corners of your eyes wrinkling you can’t seem to get enough of giving him a hard time. Others would call it flirting, but that’s not what you’re telling yourself this is.
“What? Me? You’re the perv that suggested it. I never said anything about going to the back of the van.” Eyes lighting up he nudges your shoulder with his own before putting the van in drive. “Put on your dad rock and light this joint, so far you’re a lousy co-pilot I have to say.”
You can’t stop that laugh from bubbling out of your chest, throwing your head back you haven’t felt this carefree around a person in awhile. There’s a part of you that wants to fight it but just like in your car on the way home, you’re going to let yourself feel it even if just for tonight.
——
The ride to Rick’s house was shorter then you thought it would be, but still long enough for you and Eddie to kill your first joint. With finger tips grazing each time you passed it back and fourth, your touches become more and more prominent as your inhibitions lower. Stolen glances lingering longer then they should, laughing probably a little too hard at each other’s bad jokes. The pure bliss of it all consuming you. So when you pulled up to the house that sat right at the edge of the lake, you were embarrassed of how much of you didn’t want him to leave even if it was just going to be for a few minutes.
“He’s super weird about people he doesn’t know, I’ll just be like five minutes I swear.” Leaving his keys in the ignition he gives your knee a reassuring squeeze. Rings hitting the lights on the dashboard the glint catching your eye when he pulls away.
“Putting a lot of trust in me not to steal you van.” You tease desperate to get him to stay even just for a few moments longer.
“Look, I know where you live okay? You wouldn’t get very far.” Eddie’s grinning from ear to ear when he hops out.
The smile never leaves your face when the wild haired boy runs up to the front door of the house. Taking advantage of being alone you start to really look around the inside of his van, empty packs of Marlboro Reds are littered all over the floors, there’s a half drank big gulp sitting in his cup holder, some kind of red liquid mixed with old ash from a mixture of cigarettes and joints. A guitar pick that’s similar to the one that hangs around his neck dangles from the rearview mirror. His dashboard is covered in band stickers, ranging from Iron Maiden to Wasp it was collage of all of his favorites. Running your fingers over the edges of each one you can tell they were strategically placed with the utmost care. This was Eddie’s safe space, and here he was inviting you to join him in it.
True to his word, he’s only gone for a few minutes before the loud creak of his door brings you out of your thoughts, clambering in with his toothy grin still intact.
“One stop down, two more to go.” Reaching over he puts the brown paper sack at your feet fingers brushing against your leg when he sits back up. Cheeks tingling when they linger for just a second.
There’s a brief moment of comfortable silence that falls between the two of you on your drive to his next destination. Eyeing his pack of cigarettes that sit on top of his radio you decide to be bold and help yourself. Besides, it was his fault you smoked your last one anyway.
Without missing a beat Eddie starts digging through his jean pockets for a lighter. Handing it over to you with a wink clearly not caring about your sticky fingers.
“Gimmie one too?” His eyes are soft when they look at you. Fishing out the two smokes you plop one in your mouth before reaching over waiting for him to grab his from your palm. Lighting your cigarette you look over confused when he never takes his own. His grip never leaving the steering wheel, he leans across the console with an open mouth. It takes you a minute to realize what Eddie want you to do. Unwilling to meet his gaze, with your best poker face on you slot it between his full lips. Ignoring the way they feel when they brush across your finger tips as they close around the butt. Shaky hands light his cigarette. The flame dances across his face in the darkness of the van casting shadows along his cheek bones and jawline.
Eddie Munson was handsome.
Inhaling deeply hollowing out his cheeks his eyes flicker between the road and you. Exhaling through your nose you focus on ignoring the way he’s staring at you until it’s obvious he wants your attention.
“I’m starting to realize you have a real staring problem.” You tease deciding that the only way you’ll keep your composure is by giving him a hard time.
Ignoring your remark he takes another drag of his cigarette before rolling his window down to ash.
“So what’s your damage?” It’s a loaded question when it leaves his mouth, even he knows that.
“Well you just jump straight to the point huh?” Averting your gaze you busy yourself with another hit ignoring the way you palms start to sweat at the thought of sharing with him. Too scared that once he finds out he’ll decide it’s too much.
“Come on, you’re 21 and you live on your own. You left the city to move to Hawkins of all places, there’s a reason for that.” Inhaling the last of his cigarette he flicks it out the window before rolling it back up. “Look, you tell me yours I’ll tell you mine?”
You don’t know if it’s the weed or if it’s the boy next to you, maybe even a combination of both that lets the well crafted wall you had built crumble just a little. Taking another hard drag you let the smoke sit in your lungs, the nicotine giving your brain the fuzzy feeling you were craving.
You exhale loudly before finally sharing something you’d kept close to you for so long.
“Things happened back home - consent wasn’t something that was respected at a shitty high school party. It’s been a few years but you know, it’s almost like you can’t ever fully come back from something like that. ” Refusing to meet his eyes you suck your bottom lip between your teeth nervously, despite your better judgment you keep going. Maybe it was the way he was actually listening.
“Somehow my genetics sparred me from being an alcoholic but my parents weren’t so lucky. It was all so much that I felt like I couldn’t think. Like I couldn’t breathe. I guess I just needed to get away from it all.”
Taking the last drag of your cigarette you finally let yourself glance in his direction. His face is set in a hard line, eyes staring daggers at the road, the whites of his knuckles show with the intensity of his grip on the steering wheel. Anger radiating off of him, you could practically see the smoke coming out of his ears.
Unclenching his jaw he finally responds to you. “I’m not their baby sitter.”
“What?” Voice laced with confusion you have no idea why the conversation is even taking this turn but your thankful that he doesn’t press you any further.
“The kids, I’m uhh I’m not their babysitter. I’m still in high school. You’re looking at Hawkins High’s very own super senior two years in the running.” Eddie pauses for a minute before he continues “You know with a Dad that’s in jail and a mom that died before I had the chance to really remember her what else would you expect from someone like me?” His tone is self deprecating, fingers twitching in your lap all you want to do is reach out and take his.
“Well, I didn’t stay long enough to graduate if that makes you feel any better. I dropped out, got my GED, packed whatever I could in my shitty car and drove to one of the smallest towns I could find. If anything, I’m impressed you still have the will power to go back.”
Eddie almost can’t believe the words that come out of your mouth. With not a single trace of judgment on your face, you were accepting him like he wasn’t the giant fuck up he always thought he was. Like the whole town thought he was and on occasion his Uncle. He can feel his emotions get caught in his throat. He doesn’t know why you picked Hawkins or how you even stumbled upon his shitty little trailer park, but he was thanking whatever gods brought you to him determined to get closer to you.
“Yeah?” He hates that he needs you to say it again.
“Absolutely, high school fucking sucks.” Stretching in your seat you look at him with an easy smile.
Neither one of you push each other further, having shared enough for a lifetime between the two of you in just a few short minutes. The heaviness of the secrets you both kept become a little lighter on your shoulders.
By the time you reach Eddie’s last stop you’re three joints deep when he leaves you in the van again. The sound of Paradise by the Dashboard light spills out of his speakers, turning the volume up you can’t help but get lost in it, this had always been one of your favorite songs growing up. Despite the complicated lyrics it reminded you of happier times. Trying your best to be Ellen Foley you don’t even realize Eddie’s walking back up.
“Jesus- you know it’s like 1am right? I could hear Meatloaf from Byer’s front door.” The annoyance disappears off his face when he sees you dancing like a stoned lunatic in his passenger seat.
Completely unaware of his presence, your arms flail around so uncoordinated he thinks you have to be trying to move like this, eyes pinched closed you’re belting out every line completely off key. There’s a part of him that wishes there was some way to record this to use it against you in future arguments and another part of him that wants it for himself, because the sight of you like this makes his heart skip a beat.
“STOP RIGHT THE- oh fuck!”
Eddie’s got a Cheshire smile when he watches the embarrassment of being caught sink onto your face.
“You done?” Biting his bottom lip hard enough to leave a mark, the corners of his mouth twitch up and you can tell he’s desperately trying to hold back a laugh.
“Oh my god, this is -fuck -this is embarrassing.” Reaching forward you go to lower the volume but Eddie slaps your hand away.
“No, no, please don’t stop on my or the neighborhood’s behalf. Keep going.” Nodding his head for you to continue his smile grows so much the corners of his eyes crease. With a roll of yours, you go for the knob again.
“Ha ha ha, very funny Munson that’s en- hey!” Another tap to your hand he bats you away again, sighing loudly you look up at him annoyed. “Eddie, what are you doing?”
Both of you stare at each other silently battling for dominance. Raising an eye brow at you he has no plans of backing down from this.
Let me sleep on it. (Will you love me forever?) Let me sleep on it. (Will love me forever?)
Eddie’s theatrics makes you jump and it takes you a minute to realize what he’s doing, it’s only when you hear how badly he’s singing that you realize he’s doing his best impression of Meatloaf’s voice. His dramatic flare has him jumping all around the empty street, gripping at his chest as he points at you.
“Eddie!!” Your hushed yell is broken by the cackle that bubbles from your chest, taking advantage of the fact that he wasn’t in the van anymore, you’re finally able to bring the music down to a normal volume.
“Hey! I was clearly in the middle of giving you the performance of a life time. Not. fucking. cool.” Pointing at you from the other side of the street he pretends to glare but the smile that pulls across his face ruins his performance.
“Get in the car before someone calls the cops, they might think someone was killing their cat out in the street.” Your grin is menacing when you wait for him to realize the insult hidden in your words.
“Last I checked, you’re the one who chose tonight’s music. Not my fault if I get a little carried away, if anything you should be happy.” Winking as he climbs back in, there’s a new kind of electricity in the air between you two.
A line you both crossed with out even trying tonight, it was just too easy to be yourselves around each other. So used to having to be ashamed of your short comings you both openly accepted them with out a second thought. The muscles in your face turning sore from the constant pull in his presence. You already know that you’ll wonder if tonight was a dream when you wake up in the morning.
“It was definitely a performance. A performance of a life time though? Jury’s still out on that.” The sound of Eddie’s laugh fills you with the kind of happiness that you thought you wouldn’t ever feel again. You wish there was a way you could save it.
“That’s fine, I have plenty more where that came from sweetheart.” The nickname sounds different this time. Less casual.
When your eyes dart to the clock on his dashboard your heart sinks a little. Despite not wanting the night to end the thought of having to wake up for work in the morning hangs over you like a giant rain cloud ready to ruin the birthday party. You wanted to live in this little bubble forever.
Eddie’s eyes follow yours to the clock and he knows exactly how you feel because he feels it too.
“Probably time we reel it in huh?” Chuckling awkwardly he waits for you to answer before he starts the engine. Part of him hoping you’ll just throw caution to the wind and want to keep the night going somehow.
“Yeah, unfortunately I started a job today, well I mean technically yesterday.” You knew you were rambling but the way his eyes kept darting towards your lips was making you lose your train of thought.
“She’s got bills to pay! No need to explain pretty girl, there’s always next time.” Eddie tries to keep it simple. Scared to come off too strong, he needed you to know he wanted this to happen again.
Biting your lip at the new endearment, you settle back in your seat too shy to meet his eyes. The low rumble of the engine brings you both back to reality as his van lurches forward.
“Thanks for tonight Eddie.” Your voice comes out quieter than you intend it to, clearing your throat you speak up a little louder. “This was more fun then I’ve had in awhile, so thank you.”
“What are best friends for?” Eddie wants to kick himself in the teeth when the words leave his mouth.
But when your hand reaches for his, small fingers slotting between his big ones it’s almost like you saw the internal battle written all over his face.
“Yeah, best friends.” You agree with a hum.
It’s a good place to start.
