Rewatching Avatar to write Zuko because I saw some Zuko and once again I need to write Zuko.
”E12, The Western Air Temple.
Tumblr media
"How are you fitting in?"
Zuko glances up at you with a hesitant smile, relaxing slightly when he sees you entering his room. "It's... going." He seems tired, despondent even. You're not surprised to see him in such a state after the way your friends had received him earlier.
"Sound optimistic," you sit down next to him with a genuine smile on your lips, settling comfortably on his bed. "I can imagine why they didn't take well to you."
He forces an awkward laugh, "I know, I know," he sighs, "I'm surprised you didn't chase me away, too, seeing how..."
You shrug with genuine nonchalance, "I can afford the brevity because I have seen you in your better days more often than your worst ones," you lower your voice to a whisper. "Besides, Aang needs a firebending teacher and you're our best choice."
"Oh," he breathes out, turning away, "that's very... pragmatic of you."
You'd be obtuse to not notice the disappointment in his voice when he says that. "Either way, it's nice to see you again," you say, attempting to lighten up the mood, "you know, as you, not as Lee or the Crown Prince, just... Zuko."
"Just Zuko," he echoes your words with a tentative nod, "that sounds... nice."
"It's better than nice," you nudge at his side, "now that, my friend Zuko is here with us, we'll be unstoppable."
At your words, Zuko can't help but smirk slightly, "I'm lucky to have a friend who holds me in such high esteem," he says solemnly, "I can only hope I'll live up to your expectations."
"Hey," you shrug, "there's no expectation, as long as you're able to help Aang train, I'll be happy."
Zuko opens his mouth as if wanted to say something, but he swallows and nods at the last second. "I'll try my best," he lets out a shaky breath, "if nothing else, I at least have that going for me."
"I've seen you bend," you think back to your brief encounters with him, "not extensively but... I think you'll manage, and if nothing else, at least, there'll be a start."
"Pragmatism and optimism," Zuko says, slightly amused, "you really have the best of both worlds."
You beam, "Wait until you see what else I have to offer."
It is meant as a jest, but by the time you become conscious of how it comes across, your eyes have been entranced by his. The gold of his eyes warmed into a honey shade, and briefly, you glance downwards.
"Yeah, can't wait," he replies and the breathy quality of his words makes you realise the error of your misstep.
"Uh, anyway," you stand up abruptly, "it was nice catching up with you, I guess we'll see you around more often, huh?"
You try to not look at him as you recover from your fluster, but the slight crack of awkwardness in his voice is clear to your ears. "Yeah, of course," he says, clearing his throat, "I'll see you around."
"Night, Zuko," you turn back to offer him a comforting smile, but it is as forced as anything you see on his face.
He nods at you, but his gaze remains transfixed on the floor. As you dash out of his room, You try to not dwell on that or the hint of blush on his ears.
Better to not think about the line you almost crossed when he had barely managed to get into the good graces of your friends.

papaya problems
masterlist
part 2!!
Oscar x reader, Lando x reader (4.0k words)
summary: after a chance encounter with oscar, you can’t help but daydream about what could’ve been. lando has other ideas.
warnings: unresolved tension, potentially inaccurate pit crew descriptions, tw: dutch national anthem ;))
Tumblr media
papaya problems
On your first day at McLaren, the secretary at the front desk hands you a card attached to a bright orange lanyard. Race Crew, it declares proudly. You slip it over your head right away, feeling a little buzz of excitement.
After shaking hands with what feels like a thousand people, all dressed in orange polos—or, as you were told during orientation, papaya polos—your guide Shawn leads you to a back hallway, tucked well inside Team Hub, the McLaren motorhome. “As you probably already know well, Lando and Oscar are the two drivers for us this season. If we’re lucky, they might be around to say hi.”
A knock on a door labelled with Oscar’s name yields no response. But as you two approach Lando’s driver room, you hear the muffled sounds of two boys screeching.
“AAAAAAAAAH!!!!”
Thump.
“AAAAAAAHHHHH!!! THERE’S TWO OF THEM!!”
“Lando, just open the door!”
“NOOOOOOOO!!!”
You exchange a glance with your guide. His eyes are crinkled at the corners. “Sounds like they’re a bit…preoccupied,” he says. You nod, amused.
The door abruptly flies open, and one of the drivers bolts out. You have just enough time to register a mop of brown curls, and icy blue eyes widened in terror. The taller of the two walks out of the driver’s room much more calmly. His hair, although also brown, sweeps over his forehead in a smooth wave. He raises his straight, dark eyebrows at the two of you.
“This is one of our drivers, Oscar Piastri,” Shawn informs you.
“Nice to meet you,” you say, extending a hand politely.
“Pleasure,” Oscar drawls in a distinctly Australian accent, accepting your hand. His feels warm. Inviting. “And that animal over there, crying over a wasp like the baby he is, is Lando.”
Right on cue, Lando trots over, wiping sweat from his forehead. “That wasp was huge, mate. You’re so calm cause you’re an Aussie. Aren’t the bugs, like, the size of dinner plates there?” He shivers at his own words.
Then he notices you. “You must be new here,” he says. He clears his throat, stands up a little straighter. “I’m Lando. Norris.”
You smile at Lando, offer up your name. “That’s a pretty name,” Lando says. “Pretty girls always have pretty names.” And he winks.
Shawn rolls his eyes. “Lando Norris is our other driver. He has an unfortunate tendency to flirt with anything that moves.”
“Hey, now,” Lando says smoothly. He shoots a quick glare at the guide. “I have the fortunate tendency of not being afraid to appreciate beauty when I see it.”
You accidentally make eye contact with Oscar, who’s standing behind Shawn, and he mouths, You’ll get used to it. You can’t help but smile.
A tiny insect flies out of the driver’s room, and the three of you laugh as Lando dashes back into his room and slams the door.
Later, you’re desperately wandering the halls of the motorhome in search of a vending machine. Your first day was a blur of faces, names, and fact sheets, and you need caffeine now. Finally, you spy one just outside the kitchen. Someone’s already standing in front of it, clearly pondering his choice of beverage. He turns around at the sound of your oncoming footsteps.
“Hey,” Oscar nods. You’re surprised he recognizes you, having only just met you briefly today.
“Hi Oscar. Know what drink you’re going for?”
His eyes are fixated on the row of Coke bottles at the very top. “I’d kill for a Coke.”
“Why don’t you get one?” you knit your brows in confusion.
“Diet. My trainer wouldn’t like that at all.”
Right. The drivers have to maintain weight. And Oscar, being decently tall, is already at a bit of a disadvantage. He sighs and punches in a number. A Diet Coke comes tumbling out of the machine, and he scoops it up and steps aside for you.
You scan the drinks and settle on a tall can of Monster—the most potent source of alertness the vending machine has to offer.
“Wow, a Monster at 5pm,” Oscar muses. A teasing smile has formed at the corners of his lips. He has a dimple on his left cheek.
You sigh. “First days are rough. Although I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a caffeine junkie.”
“Tell me about it,” he says, running his fingers through his already perfect hair. “It’s only Media Day and all I want to do is roll around in my covers. And we haven’t even raced yet.”
The thought of Oscar wrapping himself up in a duvet like a burrito makes you giggle.
“What’s so funny?” he asks.
You feel your cheeks burn. “Nothing,” you say quickly. Oscar just stares at you with an inscrutable look on his face.
Great. Now he thinks I’m insane.
“Well,” Oscar says. “I’d better get back. But it was nice meeting you. And I guess I’ll be seeing you around.” He gives you a small smile and slips away.
You want to kick yourself for acting like such a fool in front of Oscar, then you wonder why you care so much in the first place.
Because he’s a driver, and as a pit crew member you wouldn’t want him to think you’re weird. Right. Because you were teammates, and teammates need to get along. No other reason at all.
~
For the rest of the week, a can of Monster greets you at the door of your hotel room every morning. Oscar. It’s very kind of him. You wonder if he’s this nice to everyone else on staff. You feel a tiny lick of jealousy imagining him ordering drinks for other people, and quickly stamp out the feeling.
Lando, on the other hand, doesn’t settle just for kind. Every time he passes by you on the paddock, he flashes you a winning smile and a wink. On Sunday night, his eyes meet yours as he holds his P3 trophy aloft, and holds your gaze as he sprays his champagne all over Max Verstappen. You notice that Oscar tips back his bottle in a perfunctory swig, but doesn’t mirror their antics. After the podium ceremony, Lando hurries over to you.
“Post-race party tonight,” he says, breathless. “Come with me?”
Frankly, you’re exhausted. Partying is the last thing you want to be doing—Oscar’s burrito technique sounds really good right about now. You give Lando an apologetic smile, murmur something about next time, and shuffle up to your hotel room like a zombie. How the drivers have the energy for this…you’ll never understand.
You’re indulging yourself with a hot soak in your bathtub when you think you hear a knock at your door. Ugh. It repeats, a little louder. You climb out of the tub, wrap a robe around your body, and peer through the little hole in the door.
It’s Oscar. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other. In his hands are a helmet and a small tin.
Crap. You don’t have time to put clothes on. You open the door, just a tiny crack. “Oscar?”
“Hey,” he says cautiously. “Sorry to be a bother.”
“No, not at all. It’s just…I’m kind of only wearing a robe right now. Sorry, I was taking a bath…”
Oscar’s cheeks turn pink. You feel your own face redden.
“So I’m totally being a bother,” he says. “Sorry again. You left your helmet at the paddock, and Lando said you went back to your hotel room because you weren’t feeling well.”
You have no choice but to open the door fully and accept the helmet from Oscar. You’re sure your hair is dripping onto the carpet. He carefully avoids looking anywhere but your eyes.
“Oh my god, I’m a mess,” you mutter, embarrassed by your carelessness. “Thanks so much for bringing it all the way over here.”
Oscar chuckles. “It’s not a problem. We’re like, right down the hall from you.”
“But you should be out at post-race. What are you doing at the hotel at all?”
“I’m not that much of a party guy,” Oscar says quietly. “Not gonna lie, as soon as the podium ceremony’s over, I usually try to sneak back before someone manages to drag me to some bar.”
This surprises you. You figured the drivers would be mostly outgoing, always chasing a new high, overflowing with energy.
“Speaking of which,” he says, holding out the tin he had been carrying in his other hand. “Tea. I know you prefer Monster, but it is pretty late…”
Your heart melts. “Oscar,” you say, taken aback at his sweetness. “You didn’t have to…”
He shrugs. “I felt bad. Don’t want you to get sick.”
“I’m not,” you say guiltily. “I just told Lando I was tired. I guess I’m just not as good at sneaking back to the hotel as you are.”
At the mention of Lando, Oscar suddenly starts to examine the patterns on the carpet with great interest.
Suddenly, curiosity seizes you. “So when you come back early, what do you do?”
“Usually watch TV. Maybe read a book or play mindless video games. Just unwind.” He meets your eyes again. “You? Aside from your bath, I guess.”
“I mean,” you ponder. “I guess I’ll just watch TV too. And I should probably order food—I’m starving.”
“You haven’t eaten dinner?” Oscar asks, looking slightly alarmed.
“No,” you say, “but there’s no way you had time to, either.”
“No,” he admits.
An idea pops into your head. “Honestly, if we’re the only ones here…do you wanna just order a pizza or something? I totally get it if you’d rather just chill alone."
Oscar’s eyes widen slightly. You wonder if you’ve made a grave mistake. But then the corners of his lips quirk upwards. “I’m down,” he says.
By the time the pizza shows up, you and Oscar have established that both of you think pineapple on pizza is a sin, but ham is an absolute necessity. He tells you about Aussie pizza, which apparently comes topped with an egg. You wrinkle your nose.
“Hey, can’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it,” Oscar says defensively.
Then you find out that both of you are working your way through Killing Eve, so you run to the bathroom to (finally) put some pajamas on, and Oscar’s sitting on your bed, TV remote in hand. You climb in next to him, not too close, and try not to get distracted by the fact that he smells like clean laundry. Halfway through the second episode, your eyelids begin to droop.
“Tired?” Oscar whispers, jerking you awake.
“Huh? Oh…” Your head feels foggy. “No, I’m okay. We can finish the episode…”
The next time you open your eyes, startled, the light is still on and you have no idea what’s going on in the show. You look over to your right. Oscar is slumped over with his eyes shut, mouth slightly open, breathing lightly. Out cold.
“Oscar,” you whisper. His eyelids flutter.
“Oh my god,” he says, looking disconcerted. “I must’ve fallen asleep.”
You laugh. “I think we both did.”
Oscar slides down so he’s fully horizontal, and rolls to face you. “In that case,” he murmurs sleepily, “how do you feel about not kicking me out tonight?”
You’re so drowsy you can hardly think. All you know is that it’s nice and warm under the covers, and Oscar looks pretty damn comfortable too. “I’m okay with that,” you say softly.
Oscar reaches out with a muscular arm, switches off the lamp on the bedside table, and faces you again with a yawn.
And just like that, you both fall asleep.
~
A ribbon of sunlight streaming through the crack in the curtains wakes you up the next morning. You half-open your eyes to three freckles dotting a pale neck, a soft white t-shirt against your cheek.
What the—
You shoot away instinctively. The t-shirt wrinkles as its owner stirs. Oscar opens his eyes blearily. “What the—” he echoes, looking totally frazzled.
The events of last night suddenly come flooding back to you. Oscar returning your helmet, eating pizza together, watching Killing Eve, falling asleep next to him…
The realization seems to dawn on him at the same time. You look at each other and laugh, a little awkwardly.
“I must’ve mistaken you for my pillow,” you say apologetically.
“I didn’t mind,” Oscar replies quickly. You gape at him, shocked, and he blushes. “Sorry, that sounded weird.”
“’s okay,” you mutter. “I guess we should get going.”
Oscar shakes his head, blinking rapidly. “Yeah…yeah. Thanks for letting me stay over. It was…fun.” He slips on his slides, gives you a long look, and disappears.
You feel dazed, unsure if any of this was real. Did Oscar mean what he said, about you inadvertently cuddling up to him in the middle of the night?
Shut up, you tell yourself. Did you see the way he left, so fucking quickly? He’s probably embarrassed that he stayed over. Don’t you dare start daydreaming about him now.
But no matter how many times you repeat it to yourself, you can’t shake the feeling of his chest against your cheek, his warmth. For the rest of the day, your eyes roam the paddock for the Australian driver. But Oscar is nowhere to be found.
~
Oscar was verifiably nuts. Bonkers. "I didn’t mind"…really? He really, truly had looked her in the eye and said that. He buried his head in his hands, perched on the edge of the little bench in his driver’s room. Groaned as he remembered the way her soft pink lips had parted in shock.
Truthfully, he remembered waking up briefly in the middle of the night to the feeling of her rolling over, nestling her face into his chest. Her hair smelled like jasmine and vanilla and something else he couldn’t quite place. Oscar had sighed and closed his eyes again, half-thinking it was all just a dream.
His reverie was interrupted by Lando all but kicking down the door.
“Bro,” he demanded, “why weren’t you at post-race last night?”
Oscar grimaced, bracing himself for the impending lecture of you need to get out more and live a little he was inevitably about to receive. “I was bringing one of the pit crew their helmet back to the hotel.” Not untrue.
Lando rolled his eyes so hard that Oscar wouldn’t have been surprised if they fell out of their sockets. “How kind of you. And how utterly fucking unnecessary.”
“I’m a nice guy,” replied Oscar, nonchalantly.
“She must’ve been hot,” Lando deadpanned.
Oscar immediately turned red.
Lando gasped. “No.”
“What?”
“You dirty, dirty dog!” Lando crowed gleefully. “Just returning a helmet, my ass. Who is she? Tell me!” he demanded.
Oscar couldn’t really see a way out of this. He muttered her name under his breath, hoping Lando would somehow not remember her. But the driver’s eyes flashed with instant recognition.
“I cannot believe,” said Lando in a low voice, “that Oscar Piastri picked up a girl the night of the GP. Without so much as going to a bar to do it.”
“Shut up.” Oscar gritted his teeth. “I didn’t pick her up. We didn’t even do anything…just sat there and watched TV.”
And slept together…just not like that, he added in his head silently.
Lando was staring at him, eyes slightly narrow. “What?” Oscar asked, feeling like he was being examined through a microscope.
“Are you into her?”
He felt his face grow warm again. He just shook his head.
Lando looked thoughtful. “So…you wouldn’t mind if I asked her out.”
Oscar felt a little like someone had kicked him in the stomach. “Ask her out?” he said weakly.
“Yeah, mate.” Lando flashed a smile. “She’s cute. I’ve been trying to get her to hang with me this whole week.”
“Why don’t you just ask her out now?” Oscar said, the words coming out a little more rudely than he intended. But it was true. It was unlike Lando to try to get to know someone before just shooting his shot.
“Chill, mate,” Lando said, a little suspiciously. “She’s not just, like, a girl in a bar, you know? And she’s also a papaya…ever heard of maintaining productive team dynamics?” He made air quotes.
“Uh huh,” said Oscar, dubiously.
Lando could do what he liked, Oscar told himself. After all, he was telling the truth—it’s not like anything happened. It wasn’t like he had some kind of claim over her, like she was his territory. And he remembered again, with a heavy sigh, that look of surprise on her face. Even if he did try to make a move…it never would have happened. Not for him.
Oscar decided that he’d do what he did best—and give her, and Lando, the space they probably deserved.
~
Weeks pass in a repetitive blur of travel, races, a post-weekend crash, repeat. You find yourself settling in to a routine, becoming more comfortable with the rest of the staff.
Except for Oscar. Since Bahrain, you’ve hardly seem him, only running to his car during races to make adjustments, occasionally seeing him in the hallway, exchanging only a polite nod. Neither of you ever mentions that night, of course. Oscar’s probably long forgotten by now. Spending real nights, ones involving long kisses and perhaps even something more, with who knows how many girls. Beautiful, confident, rich ones. Girls that didn’t spend most of their time with their hair in a messy bun under a papaya cap or a helmet, frantically scurrying around with jacks and wheel guns. Every race, you get better and better at tucking him away into a deep back corner of your mind.
At Miami, you casually mention to one of the guys on the pit crew that you have a penchant for CoD and Rocket League. Word must’ve travelled fast, because Lando corners you the very next day and demands you join him and some of “the boys” after FP2 to play a few rounds. You shrug in agreement, expecting to see a group of papayas on their laptops, but walk in to none other than Mercedes’ George Russell, and Williams’ Alex Albon, sitting cross-legged on a bed in Lando's hotel room.
George shakes your hand. “Pleasure to meet you,” he says primly. A proper British gentleman.
Alex, on the other hand, greets you with a warm, sunny smile. “Lando’s told us a lot about you.”
And then Oscar walks in, laptop tucked under his arm. Your heart immediately starts to pound. “Oh.”
“We have guests today,” trills Lando.
“Do you two already know each other?” George asks.
You look anywhere but at Oscar. “Yeah. We’ve chatted a few times.”
“Great!” Alex chirps cheerfully, and grins. “Charles is gonna be so mad we’ve subbed him out.”
“Oh—“ you stammer. Charles Leclerc? In Ferrari? “Wait, I don’t want you to kick anyone out because of me—“
“He’s just joking around,” laughs Lando. “We’ve all been annoyed with Charles. He’s been bailing on us left and right lately.”
George gives Lando a knowing look. “Since Max told him he’s been interested in learning some padel. Coincidence? I think not…”
You realize he’s talking about Max Verstappen. Suddenly, you feel like you shouldn’t be here. Shouldn’t be privy to this…gossip. Gossip about Formula One drivers. Lando must have really talked you up to his friends.
Oscar clears his throat subtly. “Wanna get on it? Or are you all too busy speculating on Charles’ love life?”
The boys roll their eyes good-naturedly, but fire up their computers. F1 drivers, you think. They’re just like the rest of us.
~
One day, as you’re busily blocking George’s car from scoring a goal, George calls you “Pastry’s girl.”
You yelp, temporarily dropping your defense. George seizes the opportunity to launch the soccer ball into your goal, accompanied by an evil cackle. Proper British gentleman, your ass.
“Don’t call me that,” you protest.
“Why not?” George grins. “We all know it’s true.”
“What do you mean?”
“All he does is talk about you,” singsongs Alex. “Oh, Alex, have you seen her today? D’you reckon she’d play with us tonight, Alex? How should I ask for her hand in marriage, Alex?”
You shove Alex hard, sending him toppling into George. “Feisty,” he smirks, rubbing his arm.
“That’s not true,” you plead. Alex and George just laugh, exchanging knowing looks. Infuriating.
“Pastry’s girl,” George teases again, and you stick your tongue out at him.
It’s impossible. George is just being a clown. When Oscar won’t even talk to you…
~
In Monaco, McLaren pulls off a 2-3 podium. You howl with laughter at the sight of Max yanking Lando’s collar and spraying the champagne right down his back, almost as soon as the last note of the Dutch anthem plays. Oscar meets your eyes, and without thinking you mime shaking up the bottle. And for the first time, he does, with a smile that you tuck away in the same corner that you’ve stashed the rest of him in. A smile that you let yourself believe was maybe meant just for you.
Lando, much like at Bahrain, makes a beeline for you after the podium ceremony, waving away eager reporters. He beams at you, and you can’t help but smile at his jubilation.
“Hey,” he says softly.
“Congrats on P2,” you tell him.
“Feeling up to the post-race tonight?” he asks.
You’ve gone to a few now. It’s always a bit of a mixed bag. But the Monaco race was a little earlier in the evening, and it’s not like you’d have any company if you went back to the hotel…
“I suppose so.”
Lando plays with the zipper on his racing suit. He looks uncharacteristically nervous, making you feel a little uneasy.
“So…I wanted to tell you something.”
You look at him quizzically.
“Ah, well, the truth is...” Lando says, his fiddling intensifying, “I’ve always thought you were cute, and now I know you’re smart and funny and just, like, fun to hang out with.”
You don’t know why, but your eyes dart over to Oscar. He’s standing at the far end of McLaren’s paddock, smiling amicably for pictures, signing papaya hats, fielding questions from reporters. He doesn’t see you and Lando standing together.
“So.” Lando hesitates. “Will you go out with me?”
You steal another glance at Oscar. Let yourself imagine him saying those words. It would never happen.
Lando’s piercing blue eyes look at you earnestly, awaiting your response. You tear your gaze away from Oscar. Lando is handsome, and charming, and funny, and you think that maybe...maybe you could learn to love the other driver in papaya.
“Sure. Yeah…that sounds nice,” you tell Lando.
He grins from ear to ear, and takes your hand as he leads you away from the paddock, away from Oscar. He never sees you.
notes: wasp scene…poor lando 😂

i'm not at all sorry for this one 🤪
Tumblr media
nora finds demetri in the garage, his legs poking out from beneath his car and she smiles to herself when he hears him hiss and cuss. she steps further into the garage, coming to a stop in front of him and she softly taps her foot on top of his to get his attention.
"excuse me, sir?" she starts. "can you help me? i'm looking for my husband."
the sound of a metal tool hitting the floor echoes throughout the garage and a moment later, he slides out from the car, the wheels of the creeper squeaking slightly. shirtless and covered sweat and car oil, he grins at her. "you just missed him; he stepped out for a meeting."
"that’s too bad..." she pouts at him. "i had something really important to tell him."
"i can take a message if you'd like?" he climbs off the creeper and makes a show of walking across the garage to a work bench where a marker and handheld white board sit.
she steps closer to the car and leans her hip against the bonnet. "like i said; it's very important that he gets this message."
"as soon as i see him," he affirms with a wink before he picks up the whiteboard with one, the marker with the other, pulls the cap off with his teeth and gestures for her to speak.
she clears her throat and speaks slow, punctuating each word as she says them to make sure he hears them clearly. "i am pregnant."
she watches him begin to write 'nora is' with a look of intense concentration on his face before he stops. he slowly looks up at her, his eyes widening. "you're..."
she smiles at him. "you heard me."
before she has time to react, he's dropped both the board and marker, and closed the distance between them to sweep her into his arms. he lifts her off the ground and spins her around, the sound of her laughter filling his ears.
"i'm gonna be a dad!" he cheers and she laughs again at his reaction. he lowers her to the ground but keeps his arms around her.
"and i'm gonna be a mom," she says and as the words leave her lips, the amused expression own her face morphs into one of horror. "oh god, i'm gonna be a mom!"
he leans to pepper her face in kisses. "you're gonna be the best mom this world has ever seen."
she rolls her eyes at him but her smile slowly returns. "you have to say that."
between a kiss on her cheek and kiss on her temple, he mutters out a defiant, "nuh uh."
"and what makes you so sure?"
"well, you're already the best wife this world has ever seen."
"i'm not sure those skills translate. try again."
"what about that pot plant we had? you kept it alive for a good six months at least."
"we should probably aim to keep our child alive a lot longer than that, demi," she chuckles. "what else have you got?"
he pulls back slightly to grin at her. "now you're just fishing, dear wife of mine."
"maybe a little," she says, glancing up at him with a shy smile.
"trust me, doll; you are gonna be such a perfect mom, our kid isn't gonna know what hit 'em!"
she arches an eyebrow at him and taps her fingers against his chest. "how are you so confident about this?"
he rolls his eyes at her as if that's the dumbest question she could've asked him. "because we're amazing," he scoffs. "and because i have a faith in us; i have faith in you." his face suddenly lights up like a kid on christmas morning. "let me show you just how much."
he tries to lean down and kiss her when she laughs and pushes his face away. "shower first!" she slips out of his grasp then and darts for the door. "you absolutely reek, renfield!"
he stands for a moment, his mind processing last few moments before he dashes after her, a grin on his face.
Tumblr media
"i'm gonna sue."
nora rolls her eyes as she continues flipping through her magazine. "don't be so melodramatic," she says, skimming over some article about a new movie. "the doctor said i'm fine." she briefly glances up at demetri, where he paces at the foot of her hospital bed. "will you sit down? you're giving me a headache."
he mutters an apology before hurrying to sit in the chair next to her. out the corner of her eye, she watches him bounce his leg - violently almost - and she rolls her eyes again.
"i just think she should be here doing something," he huffs. "not flitting about the hospital doing god knows what."
"she can't do anything until i'm fully dilated," she replies, her voice monotone. "i thought you passed sex ed."
"i can't help that i'm stressed," he says with another huff. "you're my wife, doll; i don't want you to be in pain."
"and yet you knocked me up anyway," she deadpans as she flips the page.
he pauses and for a moment, she relishes in the silence before he speaks again. "i'm not gonna take that personally because i know this isn't easy for you."
"whoopee..."
he stands up suddenly and she glances at him, vaguely alarmed at the hopeful look his face. "what can i do, doll?"
"about what?"
"to make this easier for you."
"you can sit back down and stop talking."
he gives her a flat look. "i'm being serious, nora."
"so am i." when he doesn't budge, she heaves a sigh and sets her magazine down. "fine; i want you to go home and bring back that stuffed dinosaur you put in the nursery."
at that, he frowns. "i don't see how that could help -"
"who's having a baby here?" she says, glaring at him. "you or me?"
he holds his hands up. "dinosaur, got it."
she smiles sweetly at him and he's only slightly concerned at his wife's abilities to switch between demeanours. "good... and i don't want to see you for another half hour at least." he opens his mouth to object but she cuts him off. "the doctor said we'll be here for hours before the baby gets here."
he nods, unconvinced. "okay, but no longer than that."
she rolls her eyes and begins to reply when she gasps, her hands going to her belly as she's overcome by a contraction. before he can move to comfort her however, she points to the door. "go!"
Tumblr media
demetri tears through the house looking for that dinosaur. he was certain he'd placed it on the dresser in the nursery but when he finds it stuffed in the inner bowels of the cabinet under the kitchen sink, he knows nora hid it for this exact purpose.
admittedly, he took longer than she'd asked, arriving back at the hospital after his grueling fifty minute search.
but when he arrives at her room and sees the sleeping baby bundled in her arms, the dinosaur becomes the least of his worries.
"what the fuck, nora," he says as he rushes to her side, depositing the stuffed toy on the chair. "you said we had time!"
she avoids his eyes and shrugs. "i severely overestimated how long this would take."
"why didn't you call me?" he asks, pouting as he sits on the edge of the bed.
she looks up at him finally with tired eyes. "i'm sorry; i was little busy, demetri."
"sorry, doll," he says quietly before he looks at the baby - their baby! - and a small smile touches his lips. "can... can i hold them?"
immediately, all her annoyance at him flies out the window and her face softens. "of course."
she gently places them in his awaiting arms and he stares down at them wonder. demetri thought that he'd never be able to love anything more than he loves nora but as he holds his sleeping child in his arms, he now knows that to be wrong.
he looks up at his wife to find her watching him, a tired smile on her face. "you're amazing, doll," he says softly. "look at what you did; all your own."
"not entirely; you helped at the beginning."
he chuckles. "yeah but beyond that... you don't need me."
"of course i do," she scoffs. "who do you think i'm putting on diaper duty?"
"that all i'm good for, huh?"
"pretty much."
he shakes his head, smiling at her. "i love you, nora."
she smiles back. "i love you, demetri."
Tumblr media
nora wakes with a start and reaches for demetri, only to find his side of the bed cold and empty. her eyes still heavy with sleep, she looks around the darkness of their bedroom and finds that empty as well.
with a sigh, she drags herself out of bed and out the bedroom. clad only in one of her husband's shirts and a pair of sleep shorts, she shivers slightly in the chill of late night, early morning as she shuffles down the passage. her feet carry her to the nursery, the soft glow of the night light pouring through the crack in the door, and she peeks inside.
demetri sits in the rocking chair in the corner, rocking softly as he stares at the sleeping bundle in his arms in awe. after a moment, she realises he's singing softly to them and a moment after that, she realises what song.
sex on fire by kings of leon.
she smiles and pushes open the door to enter. "a little inappropriate for an infant, don't you think?"
he pauses mid chorus and looks up at her, a smile of his own forming on his face. "i tried keeping it pg, i swear."
she hums. "i bet."
he carefully adjusts the baby in his arms and makes room for her to sit on his lap. she rests her head on his shoulder and together they stare at their child in wonder.
"can't sleep?" she asks after a while.
"i don't know," he says honestly. "i just can't stop looking at them. is that vain? because they're half of me?"
"no." she kisses his cheek. "i like looking at them too."
he smiles at her. "we made a cute baby."
she grins back. "my half is cuter."
"you know what? i think i agree."
she playfully hits his chest. "suck up."
"jokes on you, nora; i did all the sucking up i needed to years ago! you've already married me and had my baby, you're stuck with me now."
"forever?"
"and ever," he adds, nodding resolutely.
with a smile planted firmly on her lips, she looks back at their baby and runs her fingers through the soft hair on their head. "what band's music do you plan on ruining our child's innocence with next?"
demetri beams. "i was thinking acdc... highway to hell?"
"you take the verse, i'll take the chorus?"
"sounds perfect."
Tumblr media
callie is fast asleep in the car seat. mc sits next to them, their eyes on the window as they watch the world fly past. demetri's driving, the music's on low.
they spent the day at the theme park, the three of them. they went on every ride, filled up on junk food and even swung past the petting zoo. it's long after six o'clock but the sun shows no sign of setting any time soon.
despite the fun of the day, demetri's been tense since he woke up. he's nervous, fidgeting, he can't sit still even behind the steering wheel and it's obvious even to mc that something is wrong.
"dad?" they say quietly as they pull their eyes from the window.
"yes, love?" he says, clearing his throat as he glances at them in the rear view mirror.
"are you okay?"
he hesitates before answering. "i am." he reaches into the backseat to offer them his pinky finger. "pinky promise."
they reach up to wrap their pinky around his and he gives them a tight-lipped smile in the mirror. they let go after a moment and mc looks out the window once more. when they don't recognises their surroundings, they look back at him with a frown. "where are we going?"
he adjusts his grip on the steering wheel, tightening and loosening his fists before clearing his throat his again. "we're going to see grandma and grandpa." he meets their eyes, licks his lips. "you're excited to see them, right?"
they nod.
"good," he says softly, his eyes going back to the road. "good..."
the rest of the drive passes by in silence and even when they arrive, demetri says nothing; wordlessly carrying a sleepy callie out the car and holding mc's hand as they walk to the front door. he knocks and it opens a few moments later.
the elderly woman blinks in surprise. "demetri?" her eyes fall to mc and callie and she beams. "and you brought the kids; what a surprise!"
she ushers them inside and mc makes a beeline for grandpa, who sits at the dining table building a model aeroplane. he smiles a them as they hop into the seat next to him. "hey, kiddo," he says, his voice deep and gravelly. he holds up the plane for them to get a better look at it. "what do you think? better than the last one, huh?"
they nod eagerly and watch as he goes back to assembling it, happily listening to the old man's ramblings. in the background, they see demetri talking grandma and after a while she frowns but nods her head. he then passes callie to her and she turns to walk down the passage. he closes his eyes and stands there for a long moment, breathing deeply, before opening his eyes and making his way over to them.
"hey, dad," he says vacantly and the old man grunts in greeting, his entire focus on the model, whereas as demetri's looking at them. "come here for a moment, mc," he adds and they do as told.
they stand in front of him and he kneels on the ground. taking their face in his hands, he gives them a soft, yet uneasy, smile. "you know i love you very much, right?" they nod. "and you know i love callie just as much?" they nod again. he opens his mouth to continue but he stops himself, his eyes becoming glassy. "i want you to always remember that."
"i will," they promise.
"i have to go now," he says, taking a shaky breath. "there are some things i need to take care of."
"where are you going?" they ask.
he swallows. "far... far away."
"how long will you be gone?"
"i don't know, mc."
"will you come back soon?"
a tear finally slips down his cheek and they reach up to wipe it away. "sure," he says, his voice breaking slightly."
"why are you crying, dad?"
he attempts to give them a smile but it seems forced, even to them. "i'm just going to miss you and callie while i'm gone."
"okay," they say. "i'll miss you too."
at that, he pulls them into a hug and squeezes them tight against him. they remain like that for as long as demetri can bear before he's pulling away, kissing their forehead and getting to his feet. then, without a second look, he strides across the room and out the front door.
Tumblr media
it's been three weeks and nora's spent every day in front of their living room window, watching, waiting. she hasn't heard from demetri and she knows she probably won't. the police said it's not a missing person's case; there's no sign of his phone, wallet, car keys, even some of his clothes.
no, the man left willingly.
a tug on her sleeves pulls her from the depths of her thoughts, from the pain and resentment crowding her chest, and she looks down to find callie staring up at her.
"what's wrong, cal?" she asks.
"mommy, i'm hungry," the six year old replies.
she nods, an okay leaving her tongue as she takes their hand and leads them to kitchen. she picks them up, setting them on the counter and they watch with fascination as she cuts up some fruit for them.
"mommy?" they say softly.
"yes, cal?" she asks as she puts all the fruit in a bowl.
"where's daddy?"
she pauses, diced strawberries still in hand as she thinks about the answer. "i don't know," she says softly, eventually and finishes plating the fruit. she hands them the bowl and a fork before kissing them on the forehead. "you'll see him soon."
it's a blatant lie but it's one she's been telling herself as well. the thought circulates her mind no matter how many times she tells herself it's not true.
callie eats in silence and she lets her eyes drift to the window above the sink. mc and grayson are in the backyard, playing on the swingset. the words echoe in her mind as she watches them, as loud as the day they were spoken and she feels her heart shatter.
you have me until the end of time.

Eddie Munson - Guitar Hero
Tumblr media
Set in December 1985 but assume Series 4 upside down events happened sometime earlier in 1985 it was all resolved and everyone survived. Or don’t think about it too hard and just read it ;-)
Description
Eddie’s girlfriend catches him working retail in the run up to Christmas
Warnings
Mentions of injuries from the upside down but very mild
Word Count : 1944
Tumblr media
“Eddie?”
No sooner than his name passed her lips, he was gone, for a moment Charlie thought she’d imagined him but then she spotted his unruly mop ducking behind the counter on the other side of the store, he should be on the track team with the speed he managed to vanish before her eyes.
Sauntering over to the counter Charlie smiled at the cashier, a heavyset blonde in her 20’s who was alternating looks at Eddie hiding like a frightened rabbit at her feet to the girl in front of her. Charlie offered her a wry smile and shrug, the blonde sighed and ultimately decided this was all too much drama for her “Eddie I’m going on break, can you serve this customer please?”
Walking off without waiting for an answer she tipped Charlie a small wink as Eddie cursed quietly under his breath.
“Eddie, I know you’re down there I saw you hide” Charlie sighed.
There was a momentary pause and then he popped up in front of her like nothing had happened “Oh Hey Charlie, I didn’t see you come in”
Folding her arms over her chest Charlie cocked an eyebrow “Really so that wasn’t you I saw dash across the store when I called your name?”
Leaning forward on his elbow atop the counter Eddie shook his head, untidy curls bouncing with the movement “No idea what you’re talking about” he lied smoothly, a winning smile gracing his face.
“Uh huh” Charlie grunted unconvinced.
Moving on as if she hadn’t spoken Eddie stepped out from behind the counter in full on customer service mode “So what can I do for you today?”
“You can be less creepy for a start” Charlie shuddered
Eddie’s smile dipped briefly “What do you mean, I’m just being helpful as per company requirements”
“Yes, I know and it’s creepy, stop it at once” Charlie stated, taking a step back from him gingerly as if he were a firework about to go off.
Eddie chuckled relaxing into a genuine smile instead of customer service creepy “Ok fine but seriously what did you come in for today?”
“My little brother wants a guitar for Christmas, Mom sent me down here to get it” Charlie explained motioning to the rack of guitars behind her with her thumb over her shoulder.
Eddie’s face lit up “Really? Tommy wants to learn guitar?”
Charlie chuckled at the goofy smile on her boyfriend’s face “Is it any wonder, after all the Metallica and Iron Maiden you’ve had him listening to?”
“Boys gotta learn” Eddie nodded matter of factly ushering her over to the wall of guitars
“By the way, when did you start working here and why didn’t I know about it?” Charlie enquired amused by the way Eddie flinched slightly in response.
“Oh, I um… didn’t mention it?” He muttered airily, the nervous hand on the back of his neck giving away the lie.
“Nope” Charlie shook her head eyeballing him until he started to fidget.
“So, what do you think he’d like” he deflected another goofy grin on his face as he indicated the wall.
Charlie pursed her lips but let it go “Well what would you like? He’d trust your opinion over everyone else’s”
“Smart boy” Eddie chuckled, motioning to the nearest guitar “This is a good beginner’s guitar, solid for learning on I had one myself back in the day”
“Hmmm” Charlie surveyed the bland and frankly rather pedestrian looking guitar “I mean it’s not exactly sexy is it”
“No” Eddie conceded with a chuckle “If you’re looking for sexy, I’m right here” He winked, smiling widely when he got a laugh out of you “But in terms of guitars you can’t get sexier than this piece of gorgeousness”
Leading her to the end of the wall, he gazed adoringly at the jet black, leopard printed strapped rock guitar with lust in his eyes “Did you two want a moment alone?” Charlie muttered, eyebrow raised a small smirk playing around her lips.
“I could be tempted” Eddie admitted without shame.
“Looks a lot like your old one” Charlie admitted, eyes flickering between Eddie and the guitar he was practically drooling over.
“Yes, my lost love, abandoned in hell” Eddie bemoaned a longing hand caressing the guitar not even sparing a glance for his girlfriend.
“Shouldn’t have dropped her then” Charlie muttered, reaching past Eddie, lifting the guitar down from the wall his eyes tracking every movement.
Eddie scowled at her words and lowered his voice “I was being chased by the minions of Satan at the time”
Charlie scoffed at hi exaggerated description “The minions of Satan? You mean the bats?”
“Hey one of them took a decent chunk out of me remember?” he stated, pointing at his side.
“Remember?” Charlie snorted “Who was the one waiting on you hand and foot for a month because someone couldn’t possibly overexert himself”
Eddie paused thinking before nodding and leaning forward to deposit a swift kiss on her lips “You did make the most awesome nursemaid”
“Hmmm” was her only response her lips pursed but the humour alight in her eyes.
“So that the one then?” Eddie motioned to the guitar in her hands, the look of longing returning to his face
Charlie smirked but he didn’t see it, eyes only for the instrument in her hands “Yeah I have a feeling he’s gonna love it”
***
“Merry Christmas Sweetheart” Eddie shouted the second she opened the door, brandishing a handful of mistletoe like it was a weapon.
Giggling she leapt in his arm kissing him long and hard until they were both breathless “Merry Christmas Eds” She whispered against his lips when they finally broke apart.
“Ewwww do you have to?” Came the groan behind her, her younger brother Tommy watching them in disgust.
Chuckling they broke apart Eddie following her into the house, ruffling the boy’s hair as they passed.
“Dinner will be ready in hour, mind you’re back down by then” Charlie’s mother called from the kitchen.
“Will do Charlie” hollered back, grabbing Eddie by the hand, pulling him upstairs behind her.
“Door open!” her father bellowed from the sitting room without looking up from his newspaper.
Tommy pulling a face at her as they disappeared into her room at the top of the stairs.
Once inside Eddie wrapped his arms around her at once, pulling her back into his chest and kissing her breathless “He’s always spoiling our fun” he muttered against her lips “He knows you’re 18 now right?”
“Yes Eddie, I think my father has a pretty clear idea how old I am” Charlie shook her head at him pulling him down onto the bed next to her.
“I’ve decided ‘86 is gonna be my year, I’m gonna graduate and then you and me can get a place together somewhere that’s not Hawkins, then no one can spoil out fun again” Eddie grinned at her.
“You’ve forgotten I’ve got another year after this have you?” Charlie reminded him “But otherwise yes to everything you just said”
Eddie sighed flopping back onto the bed dramatically “Ok fine I supposed I can handle this town for another year… for you but you’ll owe me”
Charlie giggled snuggling into his chest, his arms automatically wrapping around her “I’m sure I can think of something” as she trailed her hand down his chest over his t-shirt and under, toying with the sensitive skin she found there.
“Minx” He growled “Here have this, it’ll keep you occupied so I don’t have to go downstairs to have dinner with your folks with a raging boner”
Charlie glanced up to see he had produced a slightly crumpled envelope from his jacket pocket, waving it in front of her nose.
“What’s this Eds? you already gave me a Christmas present” She pointed at the Metallica poster hanging in pride of place over her bed.
“You honestly thought that was all I was getting you for Christmas?” Eddie demanded, sitting upright, staring aghast down at you.
Charlie sat up slowly blinking “Well yeah, but I don’t care about how much you spend you know that it’s the thought that counts and I love it”
Eddie searched her face relaxing when he found not hint of a lie in her expression “I know and that’s one of the many things I love about you” He relented grabbing her chin and kissing her lips firmly.
“Now go one open it”
Curiosity flaring Charlie grabbed the envelope from him ripping it open to find 2 pieces of cardboard inside “OM MY GOD!” She shrieked full force scrambling to her feet atop her bed and starting to bounce in excitement.
“You like it then?” Eddie grinned at her outburst, shifting to snatch his hand from under her bouncing feet to prevent her from crushing him.
“Like it!” Charlie shrieked once more plopping down onto her knees next to him breathlessly “How on earth did you manage to score Metallica tickets?”
Eddie shrugged still grinning at the pure joy on her face “I have my ways”
Slowly Charlie’s smile started to fade “But Eds, these must have cost a fortune, it’s too much”
“Why do you think I’ve been working at the music store the last 3 months” Eddie explained with a smug self-satisfied smirk at her small o of understanding.
“Ahhh I’m so excited, why is it not June already!” She squealed starting to bounce on her knees in excitement again.
“Eddie done good then?” He asked already in no doubt but wanting to hear her say the words.
“Oh baby, you are so getting laid tonight!” Charlie cheered, lowering her voice rapidly as Eddie shushed hurriedly, both freezing in case anyone had heard.
When Charlie’s father didn’t immediately race up the stairs and eject him from the house, they figured it was safe, but just as Eddie reached for her to bring her into his arms, she hopped off the bed “hey” he muttered only slightly irritably.
“Don’t you want your present?” Charlie responded stopping in front of her closest with her hands on her hips.
Eddie grinned at her cheekily “I thought you were my present baby, now come back here so I can unwrap you”
Charlie rolled her eyes ignoring him and reaching into her closet, producing the guitar Eddie had been drooling over in the store.
Her smile only widening as Eddie frowned “Why do you have your brother’s guitar hidden in your closet?”
Charlie trotted back to the bed holding out the guitar to him with barely contained glee “You mean your guitar?”
“My...” he repeated eyes widening as he sat up “For me?” he breathed, reaching longingly for the guitar.
“For you” Charlie nodded handing it off to him.
Taking it in his hands he stroked it so carefully you’d have thought it was made of glass.
Looking back up at her with his mouth hanging open Eddie stood suddenly walking over to prop the guitar up against her vanity unit by the door.
Turning back to look at her he wordlessly pushed the door shut with a quiet click, the sound of the lock clicking into place as he leant back against it.
Charlie raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend her mouth feeling strangely dry at the sight of Eddie leaning seductively against her bedroom door pure lust in his eyes “Eddie…” she started a warning in her voice “My father will kill you and then me”
“So, you best be very quiet sweetheart so we don’t get caught” he growled stalking towards her removing his jacket and allowing it to fall to the floor with a soft thump.

Fanfic: Somewhere In The Fallout, part 2 (kayfabe)
I usually prefer sharing links to my stories on Tumblr instead of the whole thing, but since this old WIP is more like a collection of short episode tags, I figured I'd make an exception to the rule. At least with this part here.
Part 1: February 20, 2006
Part 2: February 27, 2006
Takes place a week later, after the “Kiss My Ass” segment on RAW, February 27, 2006.
He should have quit this damn job when he was offered the chance, he really should have. At least that way he would have been able to walk out with some of his dignity still intact.
Whereas last week this had just been a fleeting thought, he was now convinced that he had made the wrong choice. Tonight was all the more proof of just that. Never in his wildest dreams – or rather nightmares for that matter – would he have thought that Vince would ever do anything this degrading to him.
Well, he’d been wrong.
To make it worse, he couldn’t even enjoy the luxury of a private dressing room today. No, he was stuck in the community dressing room with the mid-carders. Usually he wouldn’t mind that at all, but right now he could practically feel the pitying looks of everyone on him. Nobody dared to say anything, but they didn’t need to. He knew what they were thinking. “Poor Shawn. He used to main event WrestleMania. Now look where going against the boss got him.”
Not able to take it any longer, he grabbed his towel and made a dash for the showers – just to get away from everyone, at least for a few minutes.
Standing under one of the shower heads, he let the hot water wash away some of tonight’s grueling memories. If nothing else, he was going home tomorrow morning and wouldn’t have to deal with any of this until next Monday. That thought alone made him feel slightly better.
He stayed in there longer than usual, hoping that most of the guys might already have left by the time he got back. Turning off the shower, he suddenly became aware of a pair of eyes watching him. He didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was.
“Are you turning into my very own stalker now, Hunt? I feel honored.”
Hunter laughed. “Nice to see that tonight didn’t affect your sense of humor.”
“I should’ve known that you’d find some sort of sick amusement in the whole situation.”
Shawn wrapped the towel around his waist and brushed past him.
Hunter simply leaned back against the wall, eyes still focused on Shawn. With a resemblance of sincerity that took Shawn by surprise, he said,
“Seriously Shawn, tonight was low, even for Vince’s standards. I just wanted to see if you were alright.”
And the surprises kept on coming.
“I think we had this conversation before. Why do you even care?”
Hunter shrugged. “Hell if I know. For old time’s sake maybe?”
Silence filled the room for a moment and Shawn briefly wondered whether he had stepped into the Twilight Zone. Too tired to argue, he gave in.
“I’ll be fine. Just wanna get out of this arena already so would you…” He motioned towards the door.
There wasn’t another snarky remark or anything from Hunter. He simply nodded and left.

Napkins
Tumblr media
Pairings: Sirius Black/ reader
Characters: Reader, Sirius Black, James Potter, Lily Evans
Briefly mentioned: Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin
Warnings:
Word Count: 1,570
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m happy.”
“Because you’re with me?” Sirius throws his arm over your shoulder, pulling you closer.
“No, you toad,” you shove his arm off you.
“What’s got you all happy?”
“James and Lily are finally together. Remus is doing alright after last night. I think he’s taking a nap. Anyway, Peter was nice enough to go to the kitchen to grab a few things for Moony.”
“And?”
“Our little group is having a rare calm day. It makes me happy.” You smile, staring at him.
Sirius steps in front of you, walking backwards with his arms behind his back. “And?”
You tilt your head, “and what?”
“You forgot to mention one other very important person.”
“Oh, right? Minnie’s doing good. I think her birthday is coming up soon, so I was thinking-”
“Not her. Me!”
You nod, “right, right. Yes, you... are... not looking... as tired as you could.”
“Really?”
“What? It was a compliment.”
“You could have mentioned my dashing good looks or my fabulously soft hair or my amazing skills.”
“As if you need someone to boost your ego.”
“I do. You have no idea the kind of pressure I have when it comes to these things.”
“What? The next girl you want to "date" has softer hair than you?”
His eyes widen and he gasps. He right in front of you before you can comprehend it. He’s holding onto your shoulders, “you take that back! Take it back now!”
You do your best to suppress your amusement but fail. “No,” you swat at his arms, “get off of me.” You push him off you.
“No. Hey! Get here!” He shouts, watching you run down towards the end of the hallway.
Peering your head around the corner, you shout, “No!” And take off, doing your best to get to the Gryffindor entrance before him.
Glancing over your shoulder, eyes widen in alarm when you see Sirius is only a few feet away and duck through the entrance, running into the common room.
-
The two of you stumble upon the newest couple.
“Well, well, well... What do we have here?” Sirius jokes, interrupting the two.
James gives Pads an annoyed look as he wraps his arm around his girlfriend.
Lily doesn’t respond, not because she couldn’t think of anything. It’s only because she’s blushing so much to say anything. She’s embarrassed… her best friend and one of James’ best friends had caught them.
“We were enjoying our time away from you.”
You sit on the floor, staring at the fire.
“You're so mean Jamie,” Sirius whines.
He stomps his feet, making his way towards you and dramatically collapses onto your lap.
He leans on your legs so his torso’s floating above the ground with his arms wide open. “Hold me.”
You scoff, shoving him off you.
-
Peter enters the room, shaking his head when he sees Sirius pouting. He assumes it’s something you’ve done… or not done.
Peter holds the small basket up, shaking it to let you know he’s back.
-
You push yourself off the ground... only to be brought back down into a certain soft haired “dog's” lap. “Let me go.”
“No.”
“I need to help-”
“No.”
“But-”
“No! You’re staying here!” He whines louder than before.
“Shut up Pads. Not everyone needs to hear your loudmouth.”
“I happen to think I have an appropriate sounding mouth.”
“Oh Merlin,” you mutter.
“Why’re you two here anyway? There are plenty of other places to be “alone” together. I can tell you all of the best spots.” He winks at the couple.
“We don’t really want to go somewhere tainted with germs,” Lily says with sass.
You chuckle. “What’re you laughing at?”
“Nothing.”
“Fine.” He snuggles into you. His chin rests on your shoulder as he leans his head on yours.
"Sorry Peter. Send Remus my love."
"SEnD ReMuS mY lOvE," Sirius mimics to himself.
Although he was most definitely not quiet because everyone rolls their eyes at his behavior.
“What made you two want to stay here? I thought you two were going on a date?” You ask.
“We were-” Lily begins but is cut off by a certain boyfriend of hers.
“But then my darling Lilykins,” James turns, smiling at his girlfriend, “got crumbs on her,” his eyes travel down to her lips, “luscious lips,” he mutters the last couple of words to himself.
You and Lily look at one another and shake your heads.
“Just because she’s your girl doesn’t mean you can try and have your way with her anywhere you want? We weren’t even gone for that long and you...” Sirius clicks his tongue, making a tsk tsk noise as he shakes his head.
You slap his arm gently but Sirius being Sirius makes a big dramatic scene. “Stop it. Anyway, I’m happy you two are together but please for my sanity and whatever innocence I have left. Do that somewhere more private... you know if you do decide to go further. I’m perfectly fine if you two want to make out but remember Lily,” you turn to look at her, “we have children among us and we both know I’m not talking about the actual children that go to this school.”
James and Sirius let out an offended noise.
“True. We’ll do our best to keep it to a minimum. If I can get this one,” she points to James, “to corporate.”
The two of you break into a fit of laughter.
"Corporate," you and Lily repeat, turning red as you hold your stomachs that are beginning to ache from too much laughter.
“I feel I should be able to kiss my girlfriend whenever I want,” James grumbles, interrupting you two.
You fan your face, exhaling slowly as you tried to compose yourself.
Lily covers her eyes and focuses on her breathing.
“Prongs, you can totally do that no one's stopping you but... think of me."
You elbow Sirius.
"Us. Think of us, your very best friends."
James narrows his eyes at Sirius.
Your eyes widen in alarm. “Hey- Hey Pads, maybe- maybe we should uh ease up on them. James has been waiting to get with her. He’s happy, she’s happy. Let's leave them be.”
Sirius turns his head so he can look at you. “And why on earth would I let Prongs kiss Mrs. Prongs?” He asks with a raised brow.
You glance back at James who was no longer on the couch. “C’mon, you know you’re happy for them.”
“Of course, I’m happy for the idiot.”
“Hey!” James interjects, pouncing on Sirius' back.
-
You fight Sirius' hold and escape before James could tackle you too.
"I see you made it out alive," Lily comments.
"Of course, I did. There's no way I'm getting roped up in," you gesture towards Sirius who has James in a headlock. "That."
"I don't blame you. I'm lucky James doesn't have more injuries after he plays quidditch."
"Yeah, same with Sirius. Why can't they use all this energy on the field?"
"They do but they somehow get more."
"Or maybe they save it for us. So, what really brought you two here?"
“I came here to change my sweater.”
“Why?”
“James dropped his snack on me, and I got crumbs all over me. Do you think I’m going to walk around with crumbs and stains all over me?”
“No but you could have grabbed a napkin-”
“I did! James did but he made it worse, so I figured I’d just come here and change my sweater.”
“And then you found another way to get warm?” You tease.
Lily blushes, close to turning the same shade as her hair. “Oh shush. What’d you do?”
You gasp. “I did nothing.”
Lily purses her lips.
“Fine. I was mentioning how I’m happy all of us are able to relax today and I may not have mentioned the idiot and he got upset.”
“I wonder why?”
“What are talking about?”
“The girl he loves didn’t say anything about him.”
You scoff through your nose. “Okay, he doesn’t love me.”
“Proves how little you pay attention.”
“How can I think he loves me when he talks about all the girls he dates?”
“To make you jealous.”
“of course. Why didn’t I think of that?”
“You’ll see.”
“Will I now?”
“If he’s anything like James. He won’t give up.”
“Thank Merlin there’s only one James.”
“Yes, and he’s mine.”
“How sweet.”
“Who’s sweet?” James asks, fixing his glasses.
“Your darling girlfriend.”
“I would hope so.”
“James!”
“I say it with love!”
-
You chuckle and shake your head at the two and get off the couch giving the two more space.
You turn to see Sirius sitting on chair, leaning his chin on hand as he stares at you.
When he notices you looking at him, he smiles and pats the chair.
You roll your eyes and sit beside him.
He wraps his arms around you.
You lean into him and smile.
-
Lily snuggles into James and glances your way.
-
You feel eyes on you and find her watching you two with raised brows.
You purse your lips and look away, snuggling further into Sirius.
‘She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.’
-
James nudges Lily bringing her out of her thoughts.
He gestures toward the two of you.
She shakes her head.
‘Idiots.’ The two think as they watch the two of you sitting together chatting.

“I assure you, you don’t have to walk me to my apartment.”
“It’s not a bother. I insist.”
“No, it’s fine.” Although you tried to keep a smile on your face, you were certain it looked more like you were baring your teeth at him. “Really. You don’t have to do that.”
Ushijima shrugged. “I told you, it’s no big deal.”
Your grin turned into a grimace as you stepped outside the car and headed towards your apartment complex. You managed to grit out, “Great. Thanks.”
A friend from your class had told you they had a friend of a friend who saw an Instagram post of you and thought you were cute. After they showed you a picture of him, you said the same. Little did you know it would lead to a mess of a date set up by said friend.
The date was at a karaage chicken place and it was filled with the most uncomfortable silences you had sat through since office hours with a professor who you were sure hated you. Ushijima was nice enough and it wasn’t the worst date ever, but the two of you just did not click. You figured it was partly your fault for agreeing to meet with him despite not having a single clue about his interests and never having talked to him once, but it was too late to undo it now.
He was a gentleman, at least. Offered to pay, held your seat out for you, drove you to your apartment complex, and, now, was trying to walk you to your doorstep.
The thing was, you did not want him to know where you lived.
You didn’t get red flags or feel threatened by any means, but having a guy you went on one uncomfortable date with know your exact address wasn’t really something that sat well with you. You’ve heard enough college horror stories to be wary. But, you didn’t have the heart to tell him explicitly not to walk you home… So the only solution?
Head to your friend’s apartment in the same complex instead.
“Do you know where you’re going?” asked Ushijima, examining you as your eyes darted around from building to building.
You’d been to Iwaizumi’s apartment before, but that didn’t stop you from looking lost and confused in this maze of houses. And it didn’t help to have Ushijima’s semi-condescending gaze on you the whole time. The worst part was, you were almost certain he didn’t even mean to be condescending— He just was. To you, at least. It definitely rubbed you the wrong way during the date.
“Yeah,” you laughed, walking past your apartment, “of course I know where my own apartment is.”
Iwaizumi’s place was just a few buildings north of yours, which you were quick to remember after catching sight of your place. You briefly wondered if he would be home on a Friday night, but quickly decided it wasn’t important. It’s not like you would be entering his house anyway. In fact, if all went well, he might never even know you were outside his apartment to begin with.
The plan was to have Ushijima drop you off at the doorstep (since he so unwaveringly insisted that he had to and it was no trouble for him to do so), tell him goodbye, fumble with your bag to “look for your keys” as he walked off, then—when he was out of sight—dash to your apartment and lock yourself in your bedroom for the remainder of the night.
A foolproof plan.
“Well, we’re here!” you chirped, standing outside Iwaizumi’s door labeled 237E. You whirled around to face Ushijima. “Thanks for walking me. See you around!”
“Of course.” He nodded but made no move to leave.
Your smile wavered. Was he waiting for you to enter your house safely? If he didn’t seem so innocent, it would’ve been incredibly creepy.
“Err,” you drawled, ruffling through your bag. “I’m just finding my keys. You can leave now; I don’t want to keep you any longer!”
“It’s not a problem.”
Your right eye twitched. What did he think could possibly happen in the time it took you to unlock your door and enter? While it was sweet—in a very suffocating way—it wasn’t what you wanted. After the bad date that was disappointing for the both of you, you expected him to eat his food and dip. Not see you all the way into your house despite the fact that, deep down, he’d much rather be in his own home. It was domineeringly kind.
Didn’t he understand how stressful this could be for someone? His obliviousness was overbearing, but you supposed you couldn’t blame Ushijima when you didn’t verbalize your discomfort to him.
“Everything okay?” he asked for what felt like the fifth time that night.
You chuckled nervously. “I guess I…can’t find my keys?” Looking at him sheepishly, you scratched the back of your head. “But, my roommates will probably be home soon! Or, they might be here now. I’ll just ring the doorbell when you leave!”
Ushijima blinked. “Why not ring the doorbell now?”
“R-Right,” you stammered, unsure whether you wanted to rip your hair out or cry in frustration. Maybe both would be good. “That’s smart. I can do that.”
He looked at you expectantly.
You winced, bringing your pointer finger to the white button of the doorbell. Before you even had the time to gather the courage to press it, the door swung open suddenly, startling you enough to let out a small yelp.
“Ah—! Iwaizumi!” you cried, eyes wide as you stared face to face with your very confused-looking friend. He glanced between you and Ushijima with a questioning expression, but you rambled on before he could say anything. “Hey there, roomie!” You batted your lashes, pleading with him to play along. “I forgot my keys again.”
Iwaizumi’s face displayed a look of pure confusion and you were certain he must never have gotten any acting awards when he was younger. His expression became even more puzzled when you wiggled your way inside the door, standing snugly next to his side.
After an awkward silence, you continued again, “Well, thanks for walking me Ushijima-san! And thank you for the date. Maybe I’ll see you around.”
If he noticed anything suspicious going on, he didn’t show it. Instead he simply nodded and wished you a goodnight.
Yup, there was definitely no chance of Ushijima wanting to ask you out on a second date. Not that you were complaining.
You shut the door—the door to an apartment that wasn’t even your own, mind you—and let out a sigh of relief. With your eyes closed and your back resting against the wall, you momentarily forgot you were standing in the entrance of Iwaizumi’s living room. That was, until you started feeling his heavy gaze on you.
Gulping at the intensity, you cracked your right eye open ever so slightly. “Yes?” you asked innocently.
“Yes?” repeated Iwaizumi incredulously, voice raised in exasperation. “You want to explain what just happened here?”
You had a sudden interest in your shoes as you shuffled in place. Iwaizumi was your friend and someone you considered yourself semi-close to— Comfortable enough to hang out with regularly and talk with almost every day, but not someone that you confided in with no qualms. And definitely not someone close enough for it to be normal to show up at his place unannounced. You were much closer to his best friend, Oikawa, but that was largely due to him finding out you had a big crush on Iwaizumi a number of months ago and feeling the need to tease you endlessly. Apparently, nothing brought people together like relentless goading.
“Another bad date,” you answered with a noncommittal tone. “A friend set me up with that guy you saw, Ushijima, and the date was so awkward.”
He folded his arms across his chest, pulling his white t-shirt snug around his biceps. You tried not to let your eyes bug out of their sockets at the sight. “And yet you let him bring you home?”
“I couldn’t say no! I tried dropping hints but he just didn’t get it.” You looked up, a sheepish half-smile on your face. “But I was smart enough not to bring him to my apartment. Hence why I came here. Roomie.”
Iwaizumi let out an exasperated half-chuckle, half-sigh as he motioned for you to come further inside. You slipped off your shoes at the doorway and followed him into the living room, taking a seat on the couch next to him. He rested his arm against the headrest of the sofa and you were consciously aware of his hand mere inches behind your head.
“Are your other housemates here?” you asked, curious as to why there wasn’t the usual amount of chatter and rage gaming from inside their respective rooms.
He shook his head. “They’re all back at their hometowns for the weekend.”
“And poor Iwa-chan is home all alone on a Friday night instead of out partying with friends?” you teased, reaching over to pat the top of his head mockingly.
Glaring at you for the nickname, he lightly swatted your hand away. “You’ve been spending too much time with Oikawa. His shittyness is rubbing off on you.” There was the slightest hint of amusement in his voice to let you know he was only joking. “And being home alone is better than being stuck with a bad date.”
“Ouch,” you cried, crossing one leg over the other and sticking your tongue out at him. “Yeah, sure, I would rather have been curled up in my bed than go on that date— But you didn’t have to call me out like that.” You pouted. “At least I got free food, I guess.”
He rolled his eyes with a snort. “If you were uncomfortable, you could’ve called me to come pick you up.”
Despite his gruff voice, there was a look of concern on his face. His eyebrows were furrowed and the corners of his mouth were downturned. Iwaizumi’s offer made you feel warm in the stomach, even if you were sure he was just saying it out of courtesy.
“Or better yet,” he continued in a murmur, “don’t let your friends set you up on dates with guys you barely know, dumbass.”
“Hey! Aren’t you and Oikawa the ones always telling me I need to go out and date more in the first place?” you said, huffing at his insult.
They told you your college years were your prime dating years and you might regret not going out with a variety of people now. When else would you have the free time and the patience to date, anyway? That was part of the reason you agreed to blind dates and set ups, after all. If Iwaizumi was insisting you date around, that most certainly meant he didn’t reciprocate your feelings for him. Meaning, you had to get over him somehow before the hurt could kick in, even if that somehow included less than ideal fraternization.
“I never said that,” he grumbled, shaking his head. “Why would I tell you to go on dates with other people? It was just Oikawa who said you should.”
You blinked in confusion. “But you were there and you nodded in agreement.”
He shifted his body to get a better look at you, a scowl on his face. “I did not. You were drunk and you probably thought my head was moving when it wasn’t.”
“Well, you were drunk too! Maybe your head was moving and you just didn’t know.” The lines between his forehead deepened and you laughed, unable to stop yourself from tapping the wrinkles with your ring finger. “Don’t think too hard; you might hurt your brain.”
“You really have been spending too much time with Shittykawa,” he said with a defeated sigh. “But whatever you think I said back then, it’s probably not what I meant. You shouldn’t date anyone unless you want to.”
The thing was, you did want to date someone. Iwaizumi. You were just under the impression he didn’t want to date you.
You shrugged. “What about you? Have you been dating people you don’t want to?”
He shook his head. “No. I haven’t dated anyone recently,” he admitted, averting his gaze from you for the first time that night. “I actually...am interested in someone, though.”
Your stomach dropped. Oh.
“But I don’t think they like me.”
Trying not to show him the crestfallen expression on your face, you looked down at your lap. You had been mentally preparing yourself to accept that Iwaizumi didn’t have a crush on you like you had on him—you were ready to face the harsh reality—but you were not expecting him to tell you he liked someone else on top of that. That was just a double blow to your gut.
You forced out a laugh, hoping it didn’t sound too strained. “That’s silly. Of course they like you.”
“I didn’t even tell you who it was.”
“Don’t need to,” you said diffidently, fingers toying with a loose thread on the blue sofa. “I already know. There’s no way someone wouldn’t like you back.”
Iwaizumi snorted disdainfully. “I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Them going on dates with other people and telling me about them after seems to be a solid indicator that they don’t.”
You froze, letting go of the string you accidentally pulled from the couch. Now, you wouldn’t say you were an overly optimistic person, but you still couldn’t help but think the situation he described was oddly familiar to yours. There was a large chance he was referring to someone else, but with the way you felt his smoldering gaze on your body, you wondered if maybe, just maybe, he could be talking about you.
“Maybe they think you don’t like them so they’re going on those dates to get rid of their crush on you— But only because they thought you told them to do so! And, honestly, the dates probably aren’t helping at all on getting rid of the crush; it just makes it get even bigger and bigger as they realize they can’t like anyone the same way they like you and now they don’t know what to do,” you babbled, unable to stop the word vomit.
After processing the words that you had just uttered, you slapped your hands over your mouth to shut yourself up. That was a little more than you had originally wanted to say… Okay, a lot more. You winced. You wanted to subtly hint that you were talking about yourself, not be so obvious as to yell it out with a megaphone and have a blinking billboard pointing your way.
Idiot, idiot, idiot.
You could only hope Iwaizumi was oblivious enough to let this whole thing go and assume that you were only speaking hypothetically. But he was smarter than that. You knew it. He may be a little dense when it came to romance, but even he couldn’t be dumb enough to misunderstand your conspicuous slip up.
Your stomach churned as you awaited his response.
“So,” he spoke slowly, keeping his cautious regard on you, “Oikawa was right?”
You blinked. That wasn’t the response you were expecting. But things just didn’t seem to go as planned today, you supposed. “What do you mean?”
“You do like me, then?”
“W-What? When did…” You gaped, trailing off as your throat tightened. “He told you that?”
“A month ago, he told me he thought you might like me,” Iwaizumi admitted, a rosy red darkening the apples of his cheeks. “But that was before you started going on those crazy dates, so I figured he was wrong.”
A cry of indignation escaped your lips as you heard the news. “Seriously?”
He nodded.
“No way!” you sputtered in disbelief. “He found out I liked you months ago— At the beginning of the school year! And then last month, Oikawa told me I should to get over you by going on a bunch of dates.”
Your brows were furrowed and arms folded as you glared into the sky, wishing Oikawa were there so you could yell at him for making a fool of you. Iwaizumi caught your gaze with a disgruntled look of his own.
“What on earth?” you groaned, burying your face in your palms.
“I’ll kick his ass the next time I see him,” Iwaizumi vowed.
“Please,” you muttered, a thousand thoughts racing through your mind.
Oikawa knew you had a crush on Iwaizumi. Why would he tell him behind your back? And was Iwaizumi’s response negative? Is that why Oikawa told you to date to get over him? Trying to understand Oikawa’s thought process was enough to almost give you a headache.
“But, wait,” said Iwaizumi quietly, effectively interrupting your train of thoughts. “Months?”
You peeked at him through the cracks between your fingers. “Huh?”
“You said you liked me for months now? Since the start of this school year?”
The heat rose to your cheeks in embarrassment. “T-That’s not the point—!”
“Because I’ve liked you for a few months now too,” he interrupted before you could deny anything. Your eyes shot open as you stared straight at Iwaizumi, just now noticing the serious expression on his face.
Was this a confession?
“Ever since that night we ditched our friends to stay inside and watch Godzilla instead of going to the party.” He shared a small, slightly sheepish smile with you as he recalled the memory.
In the beginning of the year before classes had started but everyone had already moved into their respective apartments, Oikawa decided everyday of the week leading up to the first day of school would be a good day to get shit-faced drunk. It was fun for the first three days, but by day four you were getting worn out, and by day five, just the thought of consuming one more jello shot made you shudder.
So when Iwaizumi—who you had then only recently realized you had a crush on—suggested you two sneak away to his empty apartment and watch some movies instead, you were more than happy to oblige.
“I thought you looked...cute that night,” Iwaizumi managed, his voice gruff and tentative. “It was funny how you were scared by the movies even though it was hardly even horror.” He snorted at the recollection, hints of a grin playing on his face. “And I may have realized then that I had already started liking you.”
You bit the inside of your lip to keep your face from splitting into a beam. Your eyes were wide open, almost as if you were in a daze and were only dreaming the events of this night had happened. Iwaizumi shoved his hands in his sweatpants’ pockets, ducking his head to hide his delight at this situation.
“You like me too?” you asked breathlessly. There was still a tone of disbelief in your voice.
He nodded. “Have for a while now. But I didn’t tell Oikawa about it until last month. And that’s when he said he thought you liked me back.”
At his words, you visibly relaxed. So Oikawa didn’t blab about your crush on his best friend— Though, in all honesty, maybe if he had, you could’ve had a relationship with him sooner. You leaned your head back against the headrest of the couch with a sigh. “Then if he knew you liked me, why did he tell me to date other people that night we were all out drinking together?”
“To piss me the fuck off.”
You laughed in surprise, not expecting Iwaizumi to sound so furious.
“He probably wanted to get me to disagree with him, that dumbass,” he hissed, a scowl forming on his face. Even with his nose scrunched and forehead crinkled, you thought Iwaizumi was as handsome as ever.
“Maybe Oikawa thought you wouldn’t confess without his help so he wanted to push your buttons and make you jealous by seeing me date other people,” you said, chuckling at the audacity of this situation.
Iwaizumi apparently didn’t share your amusement, since his scowl deepened. “I would’ve confessed without his unwanted help,” he grunted. But you knew he wasn’t too annoyed by his best friend. Oikawa never had any ill-intentions towards the two of you, and you both were aware of that. “I was a little jealous, though,” he admitted with flushed cheeks. “And I may have gotten a bit happier every time you told me afterwards that you didn’t like your date—especially tonight.”
You smiled shyly at him, only mildly embarrassed by the routine you two had picked up. Go on a date (usually prompted by Oikawa), wish your date was Iwaizumi the whole time, go home, message Iwaizumi about your bad date, repeat. But in today’s case, you went to him in person instead of texting.
“But I was dreading that one night you’d message saying your date went well,” he said, hands balled up into fists and gaze downcast. “Or worse— Not message that night at all.”
Your expression turned somber as you realized that while you were casually dating around to try to get over Iwaizumi, he was there watching you go out with other people. A feeling of guilt spread through you as you bowed your head slightly, wishing you had taken the chance to tell him your feelings instead of trying to toss them aside.
“Iwaizumi, I’m so sorry,” you said. “I didn’t even think about how it could be affecting you.”
“Hey, it’s okay.” He placed his closed hand on the top of your head, making you look up at him. He nodded once. “You didn’t know. And Assikawa was the one pushing you to go on dates you didn’t want,” he said wryly, though his tone was more amused than bitter. “But maybe now you don’t have to keep going on those bad dates anymore.”
Your heart skipped a beat at his words. Was he offering—?
“Y’know,” he said, “if you… If we…”
“Went on a date?” you completed, hesitant but hopeful. “With each other, I mean.”
“Yes. With each other.” He held his breath. “What do you think?”
After a beat of silence, your face split into a grin. You practically jumped off the couch in excitement, bouncing towards Iwaizumi to tackle him into a hug. He let out a surprised grunt, but caught you in his arms nonetheless.
“I think you could’ve saved me loads of wasted nights if you had asked a month earlier!” you laughed, burrowing your face into his chest— His very strong, very muscular chest that had no business being this comfortable. “To think all this time I could’ve been going on dates with you instead of random people I end up blocking a day after?”
His right hand rested between your shoulder blades while his left was lightly cupping the back of your head. He chuckled and you felt the vibrations through his thin t-shirt.
“We’ll have plenty of time to make up for it now,” he said, voice warm and inviting. “We can catch up on dates this whole weekend. Or just rewatch all of Godzilla again.”
“That sounds like the perfect date weekend.” The grin on your face never left as you stayed tangled in his arms. “And your roommates aren’t back until Monday, hmm?”
He titled his head down at you to see your expression, the corner of his mouth quirked upward as he smirked. “Yup. They’ll be gone all weekend.”
You two exchanged knowing looks, causing you to wiggle your eyebrows suggestively and make him laugh. His ears turned red and when you pointed it out he got even redder. You smiled at each other as you held him even tighter.
It didn’t matter what you two would be doing this weekend. All you cared about was getting to spend more time with Iwaizumi.
“Then we most definitely have a lot of catching up to do.”

The view of the wintery outside was marvelous from your window. The snow painted the scenery a shimmering white, the various Christmas decorations adorning neighbor’s homes could place you directly into a wonderland, and the kids giggling and playing as they made snow angels under the street lights created the perfect picture of innocence.
Inside your home wasn’t bad either. The fire cracking at the fireplace sounded tranquil for your auditory senses, the Christmas tree in the living room gave you peaceful nostalgia from your childhood, and the smell of the sugar cookies baking in the oven was comparable to a candle from the most luxurious of department stores.
And yet, you were upset.
Or perhaps anger is the more fitting emotion dwelling over you currently. Your lover and recent fiancé, Midoriya Izuku was currently not treating you like the winter princess you deserved to be treated as. At this moment he was out doing patrols and other related hero work instead of tending to your very important needs.
What was even the point of doing all that work if his so-called ‘love of his life’ was sad, frustrated, and alone? It was easy for you to take the holidays off, granted you weren’t the #1 hero, but even still, your fiancé being in such high stature should make it easier to take days like this off, right? Surely, he was doing this to get back at you for something. After-all, he said he’d definitely be home by 4 p.m., and yet here it is closing in at 8:25 p.m, and you’ve yet to see even a text message from the man.
You even went out to get his specially crafted gift this morning so that he’d have something to look forward to on Christmas. And now you were regretting that.  He didn’t deserve anything special from you after pulling a no-show on his own fiancé on Christmas Eve.
*brrrring!* *brrrring!*
“Arf! Arf! Arf!”
The sound of the timer going off alerted you of the cookies being done and temporarily brought you out of your pity session. It also alerted you and Midoriya’s one-year old puppy who was always so excited to hear when it seemed food was ready.
“Calm down, Mighty. You can’t have sugar cookies, remember? They aren’t good for you.”
Quickly wrapping an apron around your waist, you tucked on the oven mitt and carefully placed the cookies from the oven to the kitchen counter.
“Arf! Arf!”
“You are so needy, aren’t you? You look like Izu but you have my personality.” You reached into the cabinet above you to grab the dog treats you stored away. Grabbing two of the biscuits, you bent down to hand them to your puppy. “Here baby, you can have these.”
Satisfied with how happily little Mighty was chopping on the treats, you decided to wait for your own treats to cool before decorating them. Going to sit down on the couch, you grabbed the remote to flick on the television, an attempt at distracting yourself from current frustrations.
A bad decision considering everything broadcasted now seemed to deal with lovers and families coming together for the holidays. The cheery smiles and rosy cheeks on the actors’ faces made you burn with jealousy as you sat fiancé-less in your home.
“Jake! You actually…you actually came back to me for the holidays!”
“Of course, I did Katherine. I wouldn’t miss spending Christmas with you for the world.”
You sucked your teeth at the overly-dramatic displays of affection, deciding to turn off the T.V. all together. Rubbing your fingers along the bridge of your nose, it seemed even Mighty took pity on you, as he jumped on the couch to snuggle his little body into yours. Picking him up and cuddling him into your chest, you fantasized about your fiancé walking through those doors. How he’d pick you up and carry you to the bedroom, peppering kissing along your face and telling you how-
*clink!*
The sound of the door unlocking made your heart jump and Mighty to jump from your arms to run to the door, barking in excitement at who’d soon walk through.
“Heheh~ Hello little Mighty. Did you take care of Y/N while I was gone?”
“Arf! Arf! Arf!”
His tail wagged enthusiastically as Midoriya bent down to rub all around his ears. “You did? Such a good boy.” Standing back up, he looked at your figure still sitting on the couch, arms folded and lips formed into a pout. “I’m sorry I’m late, baby. Some things came up on the way home.” Putting down his gear by the door, he walked into the kitchen, immediately in amazement at the cookies you seemed to bake for him. “You made cookies? They smell so good, can we eat them now?”
Standing up, you hastily walked to the kitchen, grabbing away the pan of cookies before Midoriya could grab one. “No. They aren’t for you.” You placed the pan on the farther end on the kitchen counter, further symbolizing your statement.
Midoriya let out a small giggle, finding a bit of amusement in your bratty displays. Wrapping an arm around your waist, he pulled you into him before squeezing you into a tight hug from behind. “That’s okay, you look and smell much better than those cookies anyways.” He attempted to kiss you on the cheek, but you moved your head away with a click of the tongue. “Plus, you look so delicious in that apron. I never get to see you look so much like a little housewife.”
You forcefully pulled yourself away from Midoriya’s embrace before placing folded arms once again under your breasts. “Well I’m not a housewife. Or a wife, it seems.”
Finding your comment to hit a bit below the waist, he furrowed his eyebrows at you. “What’s that supposed to mean?” You huffed out a puff of air, standing there briefly before brushing past him out of the kitchen. “Y/N!” Ignoring his calls, you entered the bedroom and Midoriya heard the loud shut of the door.
Deciding to give you time to calm down, Midoriya let you be as he stripped down to hop in the shower. As the hot water beat down his back, he thought about how to best analyze his current dilemma with you. He was no stranger to your more rebellious attitudes, but it seemed today you were actually pissed at him. And he could admit that you had reason to be.
This was the first holiday that the two of you were to spend together since becoming engaged. You even baked cookies for him. Wearing an apron at that. Given the amount of work you had piled up yourself throughout the year, you never really had the time to show such cute displays of love. You were probably even excited to have a couple days to play a cute housewife for him, and to you, he probably ruined that by not being home for half the day.
But you needed to understand as well. That given his position in society he couldn’t just take days off no matter how special the occasion. It didn’t matter how much previous overtime he worked, or how many villains he’d catch. It didn’t matter how badly he wanted to be home with you. How badly he wanted to have you curled up in his arms, sitting by the fireplace while munching on cookies very much outside the both of yours’ diet. He wanted that just as much as you did, but what he wanted even more was to be a hero. To be your hero. And it’d take sacrifices from the both of you to continue to be that.
As Midoriya stepped out of the shower, he dried himself off with one of the fancy towels you must have recently decorated the bathroom with for the holidays. Chuckling to himself, he put on a pair of pajama pants and went to retrieve a bag that he left under his gear. As he opened the door to the master bedroom, he was met with your curled up back, the light of the phone screen illuminating your side profile.
“You know…it’s still just Christmas Eve, babe.” Midoriya approached the side of the bed, placing the small gift bag on the dresser. “We still have Christmas to spend with each other.”
Continuing to face away from him, you scrolled mindlessly on your phone. “Christmas Eve has the word ‘Christmas’ in it. So that makes it Christmas. Which means you missed Christmas, Izuku.”
“Don’t be like that, Y/N. You’re a hero yourself, so you know how demanding this life is.”
“I-…I know. I just- I just wore something so special today and it doesn’t even matter anymore.”
Wore?
“Doesn’t matter anymore? There’s still a couple hours of Christmas Eve, Y/N.” His words seemed to fall on deafened ears as you stayed silently scrolling on your phone. Sighing, Midoriya pulled out a long black box from the gift bag and held it in his hand. “So, you don’t want your Christmas present?”
His lips curled into a smile at how your head perked up from the mention of a gift. “I was going to wait until the Christmas that is tomorrow but since you’re so upset, I’ll give it to you tonight.” Despite a stern exterior, Midoriya truly thought you were like a puppy. So whiney and mean until you got the treat you felt like you earned. Well today was training day.
“You got me a gift, Izu?” You straightened up to sit on the edge of the bed, curious eyes falling from his shirtless physique to the long black box in his hand. The velvety material informed you that this was no ordinary gift. “What is it?”
“Something only fit for a princess.” Your lips started to match Midoriya’s curled ones as you jumped up and got closer to him. Your hand started to reach for the box before he held away from your reach.
“I said only fit for a princess.”
“I- I am a princess! C’mon let me see it~!”
“I don’t know, Y/N. You didn’t even share any cookies with me…”
“They’re your cookies! All of them! Lemme see, lemme see!”
Midoriya continued to keep the box from your reach, finding your switching between excitement and pouting to be cute. “You said you wore something special, right? And as beautiful as you look in those pajamas, I’m sure that’s not what you were referring to.”
You fiddled with the first button on your top, your facial expression becoming more flustered. “But…I’ve been wearing it for some hours now. I probably wore out that new feel to it…”
“Good. It probably matches your smell now.”
After hesitating for a brief period, you finally undid the first button, slowly continuing to undress yourself. Midoriya watched with a quiet gaze, still clutching onto the box in hand. After unbuttoning the top, you slipped off your pajama pants before sliding off the top, fully revealing your gift to him.
“Wow…” You were wearing a dark green lingerie, specially made in order to hug you in all the right areas. Midoriya could tell by the side cut-outs on your stomach that it was designed to mimic his hero-costume. The lacy garter and its belt accentuated your waist and thighs even more than they naturally did on their own.
But the perfect icing on the cookie was simply your face. The way that even the dim bedroom light seemed to make your e/c eyes glimmer in illumination. How your pouty lips formed the perfect bow. And best of all, how despite that pout, you still seemed to look innocent to him. Most days you looked more sexy or daring. But tonight, despite such erotic attire, to Midoriya you never looked more cute.
“Do you like it…?”
Midoriya put the box down on the vanity, meeting your reply with rough hands that massaged all around your body. The little whimpers that left your lips as he squeezed softly at your laced breasts sounded like carols in his ears. “You really are a princess,… princess.”
“T-That’s what I said. Can I have my gift now…my green-haired prince?”
Midoriya chuckled as he guided you by the waist to stand directly in front of the vanity’s mirror. He hands continued to roam and squeeze around your body as he looked at your reflection. “My princess can have whatever she wants. Just let me see all of you, baby.”
You slowly took the box in your hand, firstly inspecting the exterior. The velvet felt so soft in your hands, a savory compliment with the rough caresses from your fiancé. Carefully opening it, the shimmering of the contents greeted your eyes as Midoriya’s lips greeted the tenderness of your neck.
It was a headband. But not just any headband. An elegant one; fully decorated in the most precious of diamonds. You even recognized the rare diamond cut as being the same kind as the one adorning your ring finger currently. The shine of its beauty bouncing off the dim lamp’s light brought a tear to your eye.
“I figured since you’re my princess, you deserved the finest of crowns.” Midoriya’s hands slipped down your arms to cradle your hands that were clutching tightly on the velvet box. “Should I crown you?”
You silently nodded, wiping a stray tear that streamed down your cheek. Looking into the mirror, you saw your fiancé once again embellish you with diamonds. The bejeweled headband seated snuggly around your head, you couldn’t help but feel like you were truly wearing a crown. “It’s so beautiful, Izuku…” Your eyes shifted to Midoriya’s, who was looking at your reflection with the merriest of smiles.
He pressed a kiss to the back of your shoulder before looking back at you. “Only because you’re wearing it, princess.” His hands slid down to your waist, squeezing at your laced flesh. “I think it’s only right for you to do your princess duties now, Y/N.”
You shifted your head sideways to side-eye your fiancé quizzingly. “What do you mean? What duties?”
Midoriya kissed your neck once more as he slid one hand over your lacy garter, into your panties. He slowly rolled his fingers around your folds, pleased with how you were already a little wet for him. He could thank your materialism for that. “It’s only right for you to make an heir.”
“N-No way…”
“You don’t want children with me, Y/N?”
Midoriya’s question rang through your ear as his fingers slickly circled your clit. “You want children with me?”
You felt a puff of air hit your skin as Midoriya softly chuckled at your question. “Well…It’d be a lie to say I haven’t thought of filling you up with puppies. And tonight-“ Midoriya slipped a finger inside your pussy, curving it to graze right against your g-spot. “You looked so damn cute in that apron. If I were home to see you baking cookies in that, you’d already be plump with my future children.”
Midoriya slipped another finger inside, using the pad of his hand to continue stimulating your throbbed clit. “Izu~!” His other hand slithered up to your breast, squeezing and twisting at your nipple from outside its lacy barrier.
“Look at yourself, princess.” Your eyes that had drifted to the vanity’s surface aligned back at their reflection. The headband atop your head shimmered beautifully through the mirror. “Imagine how stretched out that garter will get when your tummy swells with my kid.”
A sinful moan escaped you, the thought of having Midoriya’s children starting to lustily plague your mind. As he continued playing with your sponge like an instrument, you felt your stomach bulge with an oncoming orgasm. “I-Izuku~ ! Gonna cum!” And right on queue it seemed, Midoriya had quickly slipped his fingers out of you, your whine sounding as beautiful as your crown.
“Not yet, Y/N. I researched that its better to cum closer to when a person’s semen is ejaculating inside the womb. It increases chances of impregnation.”
Catching your breath from your failed orgasm, you bent down so your face hovered over the vanity’s surface. With your back elegantly arched, your ass pressed against the hardness of Midoriya’s cock that stood proudly inside his pajama pants. Reaching your hand behind you, you slipped your fingers under the crotch of your panties, pulling them to the side. Your puffy lips looked so soft, and your drenched hole seemed to wait achingly for your fiancé to fill it. “T-Then ejaculate, you nerd~”.
Licking his lips, Midoriya freed his cock from his pants, giving it a couple jerks as he admired the view of your pussy. Noticing some of your juices were drooling onto the floor, he placed the head of his cock under you, collecting your leaking before rubbing along your folds. He teased you by poking the tip at your clit, relishing in your whine-filled moans that reverberated in his ears. “My princess is so fucking gorgeous.” He slipped the tip in, your entrance now hugging him tightly around the head. “Gonna look even more gorgeous with my child taking up all the room in that tummy.”
As he sunk his cock in, the stinging stretch of it made you impulsively tighten your walls even more around him. “Oh my god- Izuku~!” There was never a time where the thickness of Midoriya’s cock didn’t take you by a slightly painful surprise. When he was half-way in, he paused to check in after your thighs started to quiver. He noticed your lull in breathing as you held your breath in.
“Breathe, baby.” He reached his hand around your thigh to twiddle with your clit. “You need a little help? Don’t worry.” You nodded, succumbing to the onslaught of pleasure brought on by Midoriya’s fingers. “You always struggle to take my cock at first.” The sounds of your moans filled the bedroom as your stretched pussy relaxed around his cock. “But then you end up taking me- “. Feeling you grow slicker with each flick at your clit, Midoriya slowly sunk the entirety of his cock inside you. “-All the way to the hilt.”
His balls softly slapped against your clit and your walls twitched around him. With fingernails scratching against the surface, you looked behind you to meet his lustful green eyes. “You- You’re all the way in?”
He replied with a chuckle before bringing his hand toward your face, squishing your cheeks tenderly between his fingers. “That’s right. Look-“ Guiding your face to look back into the mirror, he started to gently thrust inside you. “Look at how well you’re taking me, baby. My cock fits so snug inside my princess.”
“Ohh shit~ Izuku-!” Midoriya’s increased his pace, his cock seeming to grow even more at how your silky pussy hugged around him. “You’re getting biggerrr~! Feels good!” You started to jerk your hips back to meet his thrusts, now balancing yourself on your forearms that rested on the vanity.
“Are you going to cum? Going to get your womb nice and ready for me?” Midoriya wrapped his scarred hands around the sides of your waist, squishing hard enough for your fat to plunge through his fingers. “Keep looking at your beautiful face in the mirror, Y/N. I want to see and hear you call my name when you cum.”
Midoriya pumped his cock vigilantly inside you while your pussy fluttered pleasingly around him. You looked at yourself in the mirror, in awe at how drunkenly you had become for him. The elegant band that was fit on your head was practically a juxtaposition against your lecherous facial expressions. Your mouth gaped open for delirious moans to pour out, while saliva drooled down your chin onto the vanity. Certainly no proper look for a princess you thought.
As the head of Midoriya’s cock plunged against your spongy sweet spot, your hands gripped at the edge of the vanity, desperate for stability. “Izukuuu…~”
“Go ahead, princess. Please cum for me.”
You tried to keep looking at your reflection but your eyes drifted to the back of your head as the pressure of your orgasm swelled inside your core. “I’m cumming~! Izuku! I’m cumming~!”
The feeling of your pussy convulsing around Midoriya’s cock made him grunt as he reached his own orgasm. His fingernails dug into your flesh, almost breaking skin while his thrusts became more jerky and erratic. “Fuck! Y/N- You feel so good-! Gonna cum inside you-!”
You felt the warm thickness of his cum filling you inside, his cock pulsating with every spurt. He slowly slid in and out of you as he calmed down and his grip around your waist softened. Regaining his breath, he slipped completely out of you, a bit of his cum dripping out as well. He slipped his hands under your chest to stand you up before gently gripping you behind the neck to pull you into a kiss.
The kiss was sloppy and wet as you were too in-the-clouds to pay attention where you moved your tongue. You simply whined as he sucked on the pink muscle, gripping on his bicep to maintain your balance. Midoriya lapped up the drool from your chin before licking at the inside of your mouth again.
Finally separating his lips from yours, he gave a squeeze to your ass before pushing you down on the bed. “Are you ready to be bred, princess?” He cradled his hands under your knees, pushing them up to be positioned by your breasts.
Your eyebrows furrowed, confused at his question. “B-But you just came. You came inside…”
He chuckled as he rubbed the tip of cock along your folds, gathering up the drooly mix of your juices and his seeped cum. “You didn’t think one time would be enough, did you? We have to make sure you get completely filled up, Y/N. Otherwise the chances of you getting pregnant won’t be so high.”
He sunk his cock inside of you again, the new mating-like position making it so his cock aimed directly against your now tender g-spot. The oversensitivity of it make you whine loudly as your hands reactively came up to press against his abs, attempting to slow him down. “Its-! Its too sensitive right now-! Wait a second~”
Midoriya shushed you as he took one of your hands in his, placing it beside your head as he intertwined his fingers with yours. “Ssshh…You’re not supposed to be bratty anymore, remember?” His balls pressed against your ass as he filled you once more all the way to the hilt. The tip of his cock hitting your cervix made a high-pitched moan leave your lips. “You took it so well before, so just do it one more time, okay?”
His hips grinded against yours as he took slow and deep thrusts inside your pussy. The feeling would have been sensual if it wasn’t for your current high levels of sensitivity. You could feel the head of his cock glide against each rib of your pussy’s walls before softly poking your cervix. The fingers that were entangled with your fiancé’s tightened with each thrust. “M-My cervix~ Too fucking big~”
Midoriya leaned down to press delicate kisses around your face, admiring how your moans were now sent directly into his ear. “I’ll be careful, okay? I can move how I want as long as I don’t hit it, right?” You nodded, a bit nervous at the foreshadowing question.
Midoriya straightened his torso, his hands finding their place back on your thighs as he put all nearly all his weight on you. Taking his cock almost entirely out of you, he quickly submerged it back inside, making sure to stop before he hit your wall. Although not reaching your cervix, he still made sure to properly grind against your g-spot, making your pussy even soppier than before.
His cock plummeting in and out of your pussy made squelching noises as the creamy mixture of your fluids spurt out on your thighs. Your hands wrapped around his forearms, fingernails scratching against the flesh. Your breathing became harsh pants as your tongue lolled out from between your lips. You feel yourself about to reach another orgasm and the throbbing of Midoriya’s cock told you he was at the same state.
“You-You’re gonna make me cum again~!”
“Me too, Princess. Are you going to take more of my cum?”
Nodding profusely, you focused on the growing bulge inside your stomach. “Y-Yeahh~!!” Bringing your hands up to his muscled shoulders, you looked euphorically into his green eyes. “Kiss me! Please~!”
Without any hesitation, Midoriya leaned down chest-to-chest, sloshing his tongue with yours. Saliva trailed down your cheeks as you mingled your fingers in his curly locks. His cock now hitting you in deeper places, your pleasure would override the kissing at your cervix. As you came around his cock, you felt once again the hot spills of Midoriya’s semen filling your womb. You moaned whinefully into his mouth as he continued to slowly thrust into you. The lubrication of his cum making his strokes slicker.
Ending the kiss, Midoriya wrapped his arms around your back, cupping your body into him as he started to pound into your pussy once more. The pleasurable feeling was too intense, making you barely able to think anymore. “F-Fuughh~!! Ijhuku!!”
“Just one more time, princess. Okay?” His thrusts now shallow and deep, you became lost in delirium as his cock relentlessly plundered into your pussy. “Wow, look- You’re feeling good even when I’m hitting your cervix, aren’t you? Taking me this deep- You’re going to be so full of my kids.”
“I-Ijhukuz babieess~!!”
“Heh~ If only we were still by the mirror, you could see how you look right now, all drunk from my cum.” He reached his thumb down circle at your clit, making your pussy clench around him in reaction. “Gosh, can you hear how mushy you are, princess? You’re so fucking soft inside. So perfect for me.”
“Guh-Guhmming~!!” Desperate to seek a break from the continuous pounding against your overstimulated sponge, you squirmed your hips around, pushing your hands against Midoriya’s shoulders in attempt to escape his grasp.
“Just hold still, okay? I’m- I’m almost there-“ Grunting behind gritted teeth, he wrapped his powerful arms around your head to further lock you in place.
“Haaahh~! Ijhuuu-!” Your thighs quaked intensively at Midoriya’s more rapid and deep thrusts as he chased his final orgasm. Pitchy and incoherent babbles filled his ears, further gratifying his desires. “Y-Yur cumm~ Sho full-! Sho full of- Ijhukuz cum~! Sho muchh~!”
“Oh fuck, princess. Your pussy and voice- Fuck! So cute-!” Midoriya’s pants became erratic and gaspy as his cock throbbed inside you. With a couple of longer and harsher strokes he finally released the last of his load inside your womb, a bit of it seeping out onto the bed from there not being much room for more.
Without slipping out of you, Midoriya straightened his back, smiling while he looked at your blissed-out face. He maneuvered your leg to the other side of his hip so that you’d be rested on your side. Laying down with his chest against your back, his hands caressed the area below your stomach, admiring how plump it became with his cum.
“I can’t wait to see how you beautiful you look in the next few months…” Peering at your side profile, he noticed you were deep in slumber. Pressing soft kisses to your shoulder, he gave a couple of gentle strokes, as if verifying that his cum was properly preserved inside you. Satisfied, he cradled his arm under your head, continuing to stroke your stomach lovingly as he closed his eyes.
“But we’ll have fun until then won’t we, princess?”

***
They didn’t think anything of it at first. It was just little things after all. Things that hardly warranted their attention. It wasn’t until Tony mentioned it that they began to take notice.
“Hey, Capsicle, you and tin man been sneaking off to the store without telling anyone? You could at least ask if we needed anything? I’ve been out of blueberries for days,” Tony said one night as the team sat to watch a movie.
“What are you talking about, Stark?” Steve asked with a furrowed brow.
Tony gestured at the bag of gummy worms that you and Bucky were currently sharing. “Just that you two seem to be the only ones around here that never run out of your favorite goodies. You could have stocked up for everyone. That’s all I’m saying.” He shrugged his shoulders and waved a hand through the air as if it wasn’t important, though clearly it was if he’d brought it up.
You rolled your eyes. “Tony, you’re a billionaire. Pay someone to do your shopping and have it delivered, you big baby.”
The super soldiers on either side of you laughed and you settled more firmly into your seat between them. Tony started to say something else but Natasha smacked his arm. “Shut up. Movie’s starting.”
He grumbled which brought another smile to your face. He really was an overgrown kid sometimes. Really, you were just pleased that he’d shut the hell up. After all, if you’d wanted your crushes to know you were secretly taking care of them, you would have done it not so secretly. Liking both of them was awkward enough without them being aware of it, thank you very much.
Honestly, until that day, Steve had just assumed that Tony had someone that replenished the food in the kitchenette on their floor. True, they’d never seen anyone, but it wasn’t like it happened by magic. It was just over a week later when Steve glanced up from his drawing when Bucky walked into their living room. “Hey Buck, you didn’t do any cleaning did you?”
Bucky snorted. “There’s never anything to clean is there?”
Steve frowned. “Yeah, I noticed that to. I asked Stark if he had a service that did our floor. You know what he said?”
“I’m guessing he said no or we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” Bucky answered as he sat across the table from his boyfriend.
“He asked if I wanted him to get someone in to help us out.”
Confusion caused Bucky’s brow to furrow as he leaned forward. “So, someone has been coming into our space, replacing our food and cleaning up after us and we have no idea who it is?”
“Looks like it.”
There was a stretch of silence before Bucky asked, “Why?”
***
It started when the boys were on a mission. You’d raided Buck’s candy stash for movie night and before you replaced it, you’d done an inventory and picked up everything else they were needing. It wasn’t like it took much more effort. And when you’d seen how happy they were when they arrived home to all their favorites, that was all the incentive you needed to keep doing it.
You made sure to refill their stash when they were on mission or out for training so they wouldn’t catch you. There was always the chance they’d return when you weren’t expecting it, but the odds were slim. After all, you made a living by sneaking around unseen, hence the name Shadow. The cleaning started when they were gone on a mission and you didn’t want them coming home to clutter and dust. You weren’t even sure that they noticed, but it made you happy to have something else you could do for them.
Steve and Bucky were currently on week three of a mission with Nat and Sam and you were sorting out the groceries you’d just bought while you tried to think of something special you could do for them.
“So, why do you do it exactly?” you heard from behind you, causing you to jump. The twins were in San Francisco until tomorrow so you should have had the floor to yourself.
You scowled when you found Tony standing behind you wearing his infamous smirk.
“Jumpy?”
Your cheeks heated as you turned back to the task at hand, hoping Tony wouldn’t notice at least half of your food was for the super soldiers. “Mind was just elsewhere. What’s up?”
“I was just wondering why you pamper the geriatric twins if you aren’t going to take credit for it?”
You froze briefly before finishing up and placing the boys’ food back into bags so you could carry it upstairs. Finally, you turned and crossed your arms over your chest as you leaned against the counter behind you. “I don’t suppose it would do me any good to deny it?”
He chuckled as he moved closer. “They asked me to look into it before they left. It was the complete lack of evidence that led me to you actually. Only one person I know can get around my system like that.”
“Shit.” You were a technomancer and were very skilled at making tech do what you wanted. Tony hadn’t been thrilled the first time you’d completely circumvented the tower’s security. Now he used you to test out new systems. Finally, you quit freaking out enough to meet his eyes. “Are you going to tell them?”
He tilted his head and frowned at you. “Why are you so dead set against them figuring this out? You know they won’t be anything other than grateful.”
“Because they’ll want to know why and I can’t tell them that.” Your voice was quiet but you knew he’d heard your answer.
“Well how about you tell me then, sparky?” he suggested.
You rolled your eyes at his stupid nickname as you sighed. He wasn’t the most trustworthy when it came to secrets but you were dying to tell someone. And honestly, he would probably be the least judgmental out of everyone. “You can’t tell anyone, Tony. I mean it.”
He rubbed his hands together and closed most of the distance between you. “My lips are sealed. You have my word.”
You arched a brow but chose not to comment. You closed your eyes not wanting to look at him as you made the confession. “I might possibly be just a little bit in love with them.” When you got no response you opened one eye to find Tony grinning at you as he rocked on his feet. You opened the other eye to give him a narrow-eyed look. “What?”
“I think you should tell them.”
“Not funny, Stark.”
“Wasn’t meant to be, sweetheart.” You just stared at him, saying nothing. After a few moments, he sighed. “Listen, as amusing as it might be to trick you into having that conversation with them and recording it to watch at my leisure later, I wouldn’t do that to you.”
“That little admission didn’t exactly help your cause any.”
He ran a hand down his face. “I can’t tell you that I know for sure how they’ll react, because I can’t. I also can’t tell you how many times I’ve caught them checking you out when they think no one’s watching. Or how many times they’ve argued about who got to sit beside you when there was only one seat left. Or the number of whispered conversations they have that fade away when you walk into the room. And while I have had many female friends over the years, I have never suggested any of them sit in my lap unless I was trying to take things beyond friendship.”
You frowned. “I sit in their laps all the time.”
His hands went out to the side as if to say ‘see?’.
Your frown deepened as you recalled something else. “Wait, didn’t you try to get me to sit in your lap when I was still new?”
Tony chuckled and turned around to walk off. “Only proving my point, Y/L/N,” he called over his shoulder.
It was barely five minutes after he left that you gathered the bags of food to take upstairs and put away. You weren’t certain you’d survive sitting around doing nothing and there was only so much training you could stand in a day. “Protocol five, J,” you said as you stepped onto the elevator. “Super soldiers’ floor, please.”
“Of course, Miss.” Protocol five would shut down all recording devices anywhere in your vicinity until you turned it off.
You made short work of putting the food away and glanced around. Things were fairly tidy though they could use a dust and a quick vacuum. A peek in both bedrooms had you wrinkling your nose. They’d had back-to-back missions before they’d left on the current one and obviously hadn’t had time to do laundry. While the boys normally slept together, they maintained their own spaces in case one of them was having a bad night or just needed some time to themselves.
Moving into Bucky’s space, you gathered up all the laundry and threw it out into the hallway. You also stripped the bedding and added it to the pile. You put a load in the washer before moving to Steve’s room. There was more laundry there as it was the space they shared the most often. You added to the pile already in the hallway before stripping those sheets as well.
After sorting the clothes into loads, you took about half of them down to your floor and started a load there as well before heading back upstairs. You opened windows in both bedrooms to let them air out as you put fresh sheets on the beds. You dusted and straightened and vacuumed only pausing as necessary to switch out the laundry.
By the time you finished all but the last loads of laundry, their rooms looked better than they had in months and they had clean sheets to crawl into when they got home. You’d cleaned the rest of the floor as well and were heading back to your floor to take care of the last of the clothes. You had to wait a bit for them to finish drying, but then once it was all folded and sorted, you loaded up the laundry basket to put it away. You were happy you’d gotten so much done.
Apparently ignoring your feelings made you productive, who knew? Most of the clothes in your basket were Buck’s so you headed to his room first. You reached for the handle, only to have the door open on its own. Your mouth dropped and the basket fell to your feet as you ran your gaze up a naked torso to see Bucky frowning at you. He was dressed in a pair of sweats and his hair was still wet from a shower. His gaze darted from you to the basket and back as a grin crept over his face. “Fuck,” you breathed out and took a step back. “I’m sorry. I-I need to go.”
He reached out and snagged your wrist before you got more than a step. “I don’t think so, sugar.” He tugged you gently back in his direction and lifted your chin with a finger since you seemed unable to look at him on your own. “Where do you think you’re going to escape to anyway, Y/N? We know where you live.”
“I was thinking of moving to Alaska. I hear it’s nice there this time of year.”
“You hate the cold,” he said with a laugh and looped an arm around your waist.
Your heart raced and you prayed that his stupid super soldier senses wouldn’t clue him in, but who were you kidding? You’d never be that lucky.
“Oh, Steve,” he called in a sing-song voice. “I have something for you.”
“Not now, Buck. I’m…” Steve’s voice trailed off as he stepped into the hall and saw you. His ears and cheeks turned a rather adorable shade of red and you couldn’t stop a giggle at the sight. “What’s this?” he asked looking between the two of you.
Bucky nudged the laundry basket into view with his foot. “I intercepted her on her way to put away the last of the laundry.”
Steve straightened immediately. “Oh, did you?”
And damned if his voice didn’t drop a whole octave when he said it. Now it was your turn to be embarrassed. You squirmed in Bucky’s hold but didn’t try to escape. There was no point. He chuckled behind you and passed you over to Steve when he held a hand out toward you. You licked your lips as you took it and let him lead you into the living room.
He sat on the couch and pulled you down onto his lap. Bucky sat right beside him and pulled your legs onto his lap. You cleared your throat. “I can sit by myself.”
“I’m sure you can, baby,” Steve assured. “But I’m happy with you in my lap. And you like to make me happy, don’t you, Y/N?”
Oh.
My.
God.
That was not fair. Not fucking fair at all.
Steve trailed a finger up your spine, chuckling when you shivered at his touch. His finger continued it’s journey up your neck then back along its previous path as he talked. “When Buck and I were kids, there wasn’t a lot of money to go around. Less so for me because of my meds. Our folks taking care of us meant putting food on the table and mending our clothes. Sometimes there might be enough for a dime novel or some sweets, but for the most part we took care of each other.”
Bucky kept rubbing little circles on your ankle with his thumb. “That hasn’t changed much over the last several decades. You know, except when I was trying to kill him. But then someone else started taking care of us. In a million little ways we didn’t always notice. Not right away anyway.”
“But then we did notice and we started making note of everything that made us feel cared for.” Steve’s hand flattened on your back and his fingers flexed slightly as he said, “Loved.”
“So, tell us, Y/N, why did you do it?” Bucky asked.
You shrugged and stared at your hands where they twisted together in your lap. “I stole your candy and needed to replace it so I picked up some other stuff. But then I saw how happy you were when you had your favorite snacks when you got home and that made me happy. The more I did, the happier and more relaxed you seemed so I kept doing it. I like it when you’re happy. Both of you.”
“That the only reason, baby? You like us happy?” Steve asked as he trailed that damned finger back up your spine.
You jumped out of his lap and stepped back until you were out of easy reach for either of them. They stared at you in surprise and you held out a hand to stop them when they started to stand. “No. You stay put. You two aren’t playing fair.”
“How’s that, doll?” Bucky asked, his blue eyes sparking with amusement.
“You with the touching and the sugar and the arm around the waist,” you said gesturing to Bucky before turning to his boyfriend. “And you with the baby and more touching and the deep voice. It’s not fair. It’s not.” You sucked in a breath. “My entire life I’ve been attracted to the unattainable guy. Every fucking time. But this time I really outdid myself because I fell in love with not just one, but two unattainable men and they’re dating each other. I mean fuck my life. Seriously. What is that? So yes, I did all of this because I love you. Both of you. And I’ll keep doing it for the same reason and it will always make me happy to see you happy. But at the end of the day, you two have each other and I don’t and that’s not fucking fair so stop. Just stop, okay?”
Steve stood first as if afraid to startle you. He stepped forward and swept his thumb across your cheek wiping away the tears you hadn’t been aware of. His hands settled on either side of your neck as he studied your eyes for the longest time. “You’ve got quite the fucking mouth on you, baby,” he said then tugged you forward and slammed his lips onto yours.
You hesitated for only a moment, a brief stretch of time and then you let yourself go. Your Steve was kissing you and it was nothing like you’d imagined. There was nothing soft or questioning about it. It was firm, sure, and altogether fucking fantastic. His hands moved to your thighs and lifted as his lips stayed glued to yours. You wrapped your legs around his waist and as he turned, his lips slid from your mouth to travel the length of your neck. His open mouth kisses alternated with tiny nips that were sure to bruise and you rolled your hips against him in response. He hissed against your skin and you smiled.
A large hand grasped your chin and turned your head until another pair of lips slanted over yours. Bucky. His kiss was dark and rich and full of promises. He shifted his body so he supported your back as his hands found the hem of your shirt. Cool metal and warm flesh contrasted against your skin as he slid over your belly and up to caress your breasts. “Oh God.” You rolled your hips again, Steve pressed against your front and Bucky pressed against your ass.
“Fuck,” Steve said as his hands tightened on your waist in an effort to still your movements.
Bucky chuckled against the back of your neck and bit at the skin there, his bite firmer, more punishing than Steve’s. “What’s the matter, punk? She pushing you to the edge already?”
“Suck it, Barnes.”
“I intend to, Rogers.”
That had you grinning. This playful love they had between them was what you wanted. Was part of the reason you fell in love with both of them. Bucky’s gaze shifted to you and he mirrored your grin. “I love you, Buck.”
His grin widened. “You hear that, Stevie? She loves me. God, that’s sexy.” He kissed you soundly then pulled you from Steve’s arms to carry you bridal style to the bedroom. “I love you, too, sugar.”
That earned him another kiss. You put your hand against the door frame to stop him before he could carry you inside. This needed to be said before you were all in bed together. You turned to find Steve with a question in his eyes. “I love you, too, Steve.”
His smile was sweet, soft. “I know you do, baby.” He placed a hand on your cheek and gave you a soft kiss. “I love you, too. Have for awhile if I’m honest. We both have. Turns out we were both feeling guilty for loving someone else and it was the same girl. Never dreamed you’d actually be ours though.” You kissed him again and it only took a moment for it to take on a rougher edge.
Bucky turned you so he could carry you into the room, causing your lips to be pulled from Steve’s. You whimpered at the loss of contact and both men chuckled. “Don’t worry, baby, you’ll have more of us than you can handle in a moment.”
You squealed as Buck tossed you into the middle of their king sized bed. You propped yourself up on your elbows and bit your lip as you looked at the two men standing before you. “Promise, soldiers?”
“Oh, sweetheart, that’s a goddamn guarantee.”

The overhead bulbs and candlelight cast harsh shadows and warm light throughout the grimy bar. Everyone glistened with sweat from the desert heat. The night brought with it gentle, cool breezes over the Nile, but in this packed place, the occasional thworp of paper and silk fans being thrown open could be heard. Even the swish of luxurious ostrich feathers swayed to cool people off.
Steve moved his legs to cross his knees, the papyrus green trousers brushing against the military beige breeches of the man sitting opposite him at their small, round, gambling table. They had gathered quite an audience; the messy pile of money had long since included bets beyond Steve and this man’s wagers. Steve hadn’t caught his name, but he felt the heat of his body through their trouser fabrics, and more than once caught himself staring at how the light gleamed in that dark blond, honeyed hair.
“You trying to distract me?”
“No,” Steve smirked, “I’m trying to get comfortable.”
“Stressed?” the man crooned.
Steve removed his gaze from those pin-made waves of his hair. They had long since given up their shape to the day’s heat, but a tress outright curled over this handsome bastard’s forehead. Steve dared to think he looked better unkempt. “Not one bit. Play your cards. You’re dressed like you have somewhere to be.”
“I’m in no rush,” he replied lethargically, like this was exactly where he wanted to be.
Steve let his eyes wander him a little more. “You sure? You look like a military man.”
“Honorably discharged.”
“Congratulations.”
Steve knew his eyes were blue, but in this lighting they looked like clear glass over onyx pupils when he tilted his head to look at Steve curiously. The latter retaliated before he even spoke. “Is that a strange thing to say?”
The blond shrugged with a gentle shake of his head as he plucked at his cards, rearranging them in his hand. “Only if you worship at the alter of hyper patriotism and military imperialism.”
Some chuckles sounded around them as harlots shared long, cigarette filter stems with their johns, and the barkeeps made glass clatter. Steve exhaled in a huff. “Whatever that means. I’d like to win, already. Play your cards.”
“You first, dear.”
He did, laying down his fan of cards underneath the row of cards from the dealer. The Madame of the place listened to their exchanges with amusement but kept it professional as she narrated, “Full house. Always something to brag about. And you, Mr. Hargrove?”
Hargrove, huh? Steve mused as he watched for any amount of discomfort on the man’s face. He didn’t get it.
“Straight flush,” the Madame said, aligning the winning cards with those from Steve’s and her own line. Steve had practically given him that win. And more of his father’s allowance than he would ever admit.
Hargrove moved a stack of chips to the Madame’s side of the table for a substantial tip, and then offered that hand to Steve. “Good game, Mr…?”
His eyes lolled under a slow blink before he accepted the hand. “Just Steve. It’s what I get for losing.”
“Let me top off your drink, at least, Steve.”
He took his loss with grace and stood to follow Hargrove to the bar. The crowd separated for him apart from a random slap on the back and long fingers stroking his hair in consolation. Hargrove reached the bar first, and watched all this while leaning back on his elbow. A light overhead moved across the exposed skin of his chest, just as honeyed as the rest of him, and the sparse hair there. Steve discretely lowered his gaze as if to not trip over the tiled stair raising the bar from the regular floor.
“Do you come here often?”
Steve snorted a quiet laugh and lifted his gaze. “You’ve already got me here. Ask me a real question.”
Hargrove smiled as the barkeep approached. “A bottle of red, please. Two glasses. It is a real question. People respond to you as if they know you here.”
Steve mirrored his stance and leaned into his elbow on the bar. “My sister and I come here sometimes. When we want to get away from…all of it.”
Hargrove hummed deep in his chest as the sound of a cork popping briefly diverted their attention. “Sister?”
“Stepsister, if you want to get specific, but she’s not here. You’ve only got little ol’ me.”
The barman poured two glasses without stopping, holding the vessels together with a practiced hand before he set them and the bottle on the bar. Hargrove paid him as he replied, “I have one of those. A stepsister, I mean. Although I don’t know how much it counts if you haven’t seen your so-called family in years.”
Steve reached for his wine and asked before he meant to, “Do you miss her?”
It was a bit too personal of a conversation between strangers. Hargrove’s pause made him quickly add, “You don’t have to answer that.”
“I’ll miss you, depending on how the rest of this night goes.”
Steve coughed on his wine. Hargrove chuckled as he offered a pale blue handkerchief to wipe his mouth. “Are you always this generous to people who’ve lost money to you?”
“Only the ones who are pretty enough to be a prize themselves.”
Steve’s eyes lolled in his head despite the rouge blooming in his cheeks and dusting across this throat. “If I’d known you were so used to winning I might’ve spent my money better.”
Hargrove’s eyes held steadily on him. “I’m glad you didn’t.”
* * *
Steve’s back pressed hard enough against the wall to break the kiss with a huff. He craned his face towards the sky as Hargrove made him shudder with soft lips and prickling stubble on his throat. They could hear the bar’s goings-on just on the other side of the exterior wall, but leaving the humid interior was refreshing on their wine-flushed skin. The darkness of the Cairo alleyway freed Hargrove’s hands to massage Steve’s backside.
As Steve caught his breath, he managed to slip his own hand between them, feeling the muscle of that chest for himself before he ducked to taste Hargrove’s skin. Salt and the neutral sweetness of a man’s skin. He liked the little sounds that Hargrove hummed while making a mess of Steve’s hair.
“I want this hair all over me. Better than silk.”
Steve lifted back up to frame Hargrove’s head in his hands, claiming and tasting and licking into his mouth. The way Hargrove kissed—like Steve was an oasis and honeycomb. Delicious and all his. It made Steve want to have him right here. Better than wine and cigars—intoxicating, having this kind of attention all to himself.
Hargrove hummed again, this time to get Steve’s attention. “Put your arms around me. I’ll do the rest.”
He didn’t fully understand until his trouser buttons slid free with ease. Steve openly moaned in the wake of Hargrove’s hand massaging his front, finding which direction his erection stood and easing it out into the night air. As his warm palm pumped him to aching readiness, Steve’s hands continued to wander Hargrove’s body. The man kissed him in a rush, almost brutally plundering his mouth before releasing to latch onto Steve’s collarbone.
One of Steve’s arms remained anchored around Hargrove’s shoulders. The rest of him rocked gently against the man intent to take him apart in a back alley—not that Steve minded one bit. His other hand pushed aside that half-open shirt to squeeze a nipple. Hargrove groaned deliciously and lifted his head to give Steve’s ear the same tantalizing attention—
Steve frowned a little at the hard and heavy rock of a thing knocking against his hand. It didn’t take much to pry the thing out of Hargrove’s jacket breast pocket. Steve didn’t have the time or the lighting to see what it really was. He had half a mind to hold onto it just out of petty spite. A token for taking so much out of his own wallet.
A reason for Hargrove to find him the next day.
Except a voice made Steve chirp, “Huh?”
And then Hargrove faced him with the same curiosity. They realized together that neither of them had spoken. Gas and oil lanterns were quickly moving through the alleyway, held aloft by harsh voices.
“Shit!” Steve hissed, rapidly putting himself back in his trousers. He yelped a choked sound as Hargrove yanked him out of the alley by his arm.
“We gotta go!”
“No shit!”
“Split up!”
“What?”
“GO.”
With that, Hargrove shoved him right into the vaporous air of a crowded hookah restaurant. Steve could only dodge and duck around rapidly standing patrons as the police flooded inside. The kitchen staff only reacted after he’d already dashed through the room, and by then, the police were too held up to catch up with him. Steve didn’t stop running. He heard yelling and whistles in the streets behind him, but he kept going—Hargrove’s strange stone clutched tight in his hand.
Only once he’d finished a very round-about path back to his lodgings, did he sneak quietly past his sister’s room and light a lamp to see his prize. The octagonal…thing…fit well in his palm. On one face, jagged lines had been finely carved, but all around its edges were familiar hieroglyphics.
“Oh. What the hell—better yet, what is a handsome American in Egypt doing with you in his pocket?”
Steve went over to his writing desk to find his glasses in a drawer. He popped them on and recognized a cartouche when he saw one. “Seti. Pharaoh Seti, huh? Well, Robin’s going to be all over this when she sees it.”
A shrill whistle outside startled him enough to drop it heavily on his floor. The whistle sounded far away, but he remained very still in case the wrath of a woman awoken before dawn barged into his room.
If Robin woke up, Steve remained blissfully unaware. He quickly undressed, washed as much of himself as he was able with the washbasin, and collapsed onto the bed. With Hargrove’s fancy artifact on his bedside table, Steve let the memory of sharp beard stubble and firm hands guide his own down to his cock. He got himself back to standing and finished what Hargrove started quickly.
But it was soft lips, open arms, and steady eyes that eased Steve to longing sleep. A slumber so deep that had his stepsister threw a pillow at him the next morning for oversleeping on her way to work at the National Library.

Monika x Fem!reader
summary: fluffy fic of Monika and the reader on the reader's birthday.
word count: 2.4k
As far as birthdays go, this one wasn't really anything too special. Well, maybe you're being a little too cynical. After all, last year you hadn't really gotten to spend your birthday with any friends- you'd been preoccupied with getting home to watch the newest season of your favorite anime.
This year, however, Sayori had managed to get you into the Literature Club, and it had, not to be dramatic, changed your life. For better or worse, that was yet to be seen.
"Y/N, is everything okay?" Sayori asks expectantly, bright blue eyes examining you with bewilderment.
You focus back on the present, giving your friend a reassuring smile. "Yeah, sorry! Everything's great." And you aren't lying; today for the club meeting, Natsuki had brought cupcakes for everyone to share, Sayori had actually not realized what day it was and so gave you a 'birthday hug,' Yuri had given you a copy of one of her favorite horror novels as a gift, even signed by the author, and yet...
You can't help but give a very small sigh. "I just kind of miss Monika, I guess."
Sayori, Natsuki, and Yuri all exchange glances in their respective chairs at one of the club tables. They then all focus on you with varying expressions: Sayori with mischief, Natsuki with exasperation, and Yuri with knowing amusement.
"What? Don't look at me like that!" You squeak defensively, feeling your face begin to heat up at what they were implying. "I only meant that it's- it's weird being at a meeting without our club president! T-That's all." Not that this could be called a meeting per se- more like a celebration between friends.
Sayori giggles at your reaction, and you hear Yuri whisper to Natsuki, "The lady doth protest too much," which elicits a snort of laughter from the pink-haired tsundere.
You groan, standing up abruptly from your seat and smoothing down your school uniform a bit, self-conscious all of a sudden. As your embarrassment dies down though, you feel a wave of affection for your fellow club members. As much as they tend to tease you about your little crush on Monika, they had made your birthday really special this year, and you were grateful. "Anyway, thank you guys again for everything! I had a lot of fun," you say earnestly, deciding it was probably time to wrap up and head home.
Sayori bounces up to join you, and you bid your farewells to Natsuki and Yuri, gathering up your things and heading out of the classroom.
Sayori glances back to make sure that Natsuki and Yuri are in fact walking away, and then she reaches out to stop you. "Uhm, Y/N...?"
You pause to look at her expectantly, unsure of why she's much less energetic now than she was a few minutes ago. "Yes?"
"I-I was actually supposed to tell you something," your best friend begins, uncharacteristically quiet. You wonder briefly why she hadn't mentioned this before... maybe she had been debating on whether or not she actually wanted to tell you whatever it is, considering how the words are practically being dragged from her at this point. "Ah, well, Monika asked me to, that is. The reason she couldn't come to the Literature Club today was because she was stuck at a meeting with the student council, but..." Sayori exhales in what could be a sigh. "She did still wanna see you for your birthday, so she hoped you could stop by there and wait for her."
You stand there in the mostly empty hall of the school, puzzled at why this news would bring such a reaction from your friend- especially when it makes you feel so fluttery inside. "Oh!" You try not to let it show, but you're fairly certain you're lighting up like a Christmas tree. "I see. Thank you for telling me, Sayori!"
As you turn to leave, you feel Sayori reach out to touch your shoulder, but she retracts her hand quickly. When you look back at her, she's her old self, giving you a big smile. "Yeah, I guess you're gonna go see her, huh? Well, I'll catch you later, Y/N!"
Before you can respond, Sayori dashes off, forgetting to wish you a happy birthday.
Well, that was weird. Then again, Sayori's been pretty off lately whenever you and Monika are involved.
The thought of the brunette is enough to make you forget all about whatever might be troubling your best friend, and you make your way through the school to the student council room with a giddy spring in your step. They must not be out yet since the halls are pretty deserted still.
You risk taking a peek through the little glass window on the door, and your hunch is confirmed. Students belonging to the council are all sitting in a circle of chairs, discussing... well, school-related business stuff. You aren't really sure what they do, exactly.
You catch sight of Monika at the head of them, naturally because she is the president, but you aren't expecting to see her with such an expression.
Usually, Monika seems to you warm, open, patient, and friendly... but here, she looks... not even bored, but more like she's utterly apathetic towards all the conversations going on around her. You've never seen her so uncaring, to the point where she seems almost irritated by the presence of everyone in the room with her.
Maybe she's having a bad day? The thought makes you a bit sad, and you find yourself wondering if she would even want to see you. Do the others in the council even realize she's so unlike herself?
As if to answer your silent question, one of the other students turns to Monika to say something, and when they do, the familiar expression you're used to your club president wearing slips back with ease onto her face. She listens attentively to whatever it is she's being told, and then she smiles and nods, commenting something you can't hear in return.
You watch the exchange, too fascinated to stop watching even if you do worry someone might notice you peeking inside for such a long minute. As soon as the student turns away from her, Monika is once again the picture of discontentment; you even notice her tapping her nails listlessly against the surface of the table they're all seated at.
The sound of the doorknob rattling causes you to leap backwards in shock, stumbling slightly over your own two feet. The meeting must be over, because someone is stepping out, and then another, and then you're hurriedly dodging out of the path of the entire student body as they file out, talking and laughing with one another as they head down the hall, eventually leaving you alone.
"Y/N?"
Looking away from their retreating figures, you face Monika and find her as she always is with you- curious emerald eyes and a friendly air about her. "Ah- hello," you greet her, trying not to sound as awkward as you feel about your... let's be honest, spying.
"I wasn't really sure that you'd show!" She exclaims, startling you with a sudden hug.
You've actually never gotten a hug from Monika, although you have a ton of hugs to compare hers to- Sayori throws herself at you pretty much daily, and hers tend to be suffocating, always too tight and lasting a bit too long.
From Monika, though? Her hug, despite making your head spin and your heart skip a beat, makes you feel so safe, secure... she's so warm and you can't help but be enamored with whatever perfume she uses.
Unfortunately, you're too stunned to return the embrace in time before Monika pulls back from you, and you could swear she has a faint blush on her cheeks. She doesn't apologize for her impromptu action, though, and you're glad for that.
"Why wouldn't I?" You ask, dumbstruck.
She studies you for a few seconds, and you get the idea that she's trying to detect if you're being serious or not. Eventually she says, "Oh, nevermind that! I am glad to see you, though. I have something I wanted to give you."
'Please refrain from saying something really stupid and cheesy like, 'the best gift you could give me is just getting to see you on my birthday,' you think to yourself. "A gift? You really didn't have to- or, I mean, you shouldn't have-! Not that I don't appreciate it, though...!" You don't typically struggle so much with your words, but you're still a little off your game after the lovely hug. It's like your mind is foggy, your tongue is twisted, and you simply can't think straight. Which isn't really new when you're around Monika, but today it's impacting you even more than normal. Maybe because you two are all alone for once, not surrounded by Sayori, Yuri, or Natsuki, or even any other students for that matter.
Monika gives a soft laugh. "I wanted to. Technically it's two somethings rather than one," she admits.
You find your mind racing as it tries to go over the potential possibilities. A book like Yuri? That would be very fitting, since you'd befriended Monika through the Literature Club.
You watch as she takes a gift box out of her bookbag, offering it to you with a sweet, "Happy birthday, Y/N."
God, you're definitely blushing. Like, fierce blushing. Either that or the school suddenly decided to turn fifty heaters on all at once. 'Geez, pull yourself together!! Act normal!' You internally berate yourself. If there had been any doubt before, it was all erased in this one instant- you were head over heels for your club president.
"Awh, thank you! It's nice of you." You accept the gift, examining it momentarily. As expected of the class star Monika, the box itself is wrapped perfectly. It's even your favorite color, with a matching ribbon tying it shut. Whether or not you're a sentimental person, you recognize that this is the sort of memento that could easily be kept for a long, long time. You glance back to your friend. "May I open it now?"
Monika nods. "Please do!"
You feel her gaze on you as you carefully untie the ribbon and open up the gift box to see what's inside.
She was right, it is more than one thing. They sort of go together though, you realize as you lift one of the presents up to admire it.
In your hand is a necklace. The chain is a light silver, and the pendant contains a pretty stone in the shape of a heart. The stone shimmers slightly as it reflects the light of the school hall.
"It's so pretty...!" You breathe.
"I'm glad, I thought it was pretty too," Monika says. She sounds calm, but when you glance at her you think she's ecstatic, but the expression is gone as soon as you blink, leaving you to wonder if it had been your imagination playing tricks on you. "It's your birthstone, did you notice?"
You hadn't noticed until she'd pointed it out, but it was indeed your birthstone. Monika is just... so very thoughtful. It's really no wonder she's so popular. "Thank you so much!!" You chirp, still somewhat surprised that she would go so far just for a birthday gift for you. You hadn't known her personally for very long, after all.
You set the necklace back down inside the box to bring out the other gift, another accessory- it's the same color as your birthstone necklace, but it actually reminds you of something else.
Yes, it's a big bow similar to Monika's own. If you were to wear it, it could even look like she and you were matching. You could just be reading too much into things, though...
"I.. love them. So much." You have an overwhelming urge to put your thoughts onto paper in order to give Monika the proper thanks that she deserves for being possibly the most generous person in existence, and because you feel like you're failing miserably at voicing just how touched you really are by these gifts. "I almost want to get you something in return...!"
Monika shakes her head in amusement. "It's your birthday, not mine." A contemplative finger rests on her chin as she adds, "Although... there is something you could do for me. If you wouldn't mind, of course."
Perplexed, you respond without giving yourself a chance to think about it. "Anything!"
You're rewarded with an affectionate smile from Monika, but it seems as though she was expecting that to be your answer.
She extends a hand for the gift box that you've already set both the bow and necklace back in, inquiring, "May I?"
Wordlessly, your intrigue piqued, you hand it back to her. She takes the bow out first, stepping closer to you.
It's not foolish of you to have been anticipating a kiss- even now you could very easily initiate one if you so chose, because of how terrifyingly close Monika is to you as she gently pulls your hair back for you, tying it back with the Y/FC bow and even brushing a stray lock of hair from your face after she does so.
While you're struggling to recover from your short-circuiting, Monika takes the necklace and places it around your neck. The brush of her fingers sends sparks of static against your skin, and you feel as if time is standing completely still, and it's just you and her in this world.
The faint click of the necklace as it clasps shut is what brings you back to reality, and all too soon Monika is stepping away from you again, still close but at a much more reasonable distance away.
She appraises your appearance and then smiles softly. "As I thought."
Is she being mysterious on purpose or does being around her just happen to kill your brain cells? "E-Eh?"
"You look lovely, Y/N."
The compliment makes you want to bury your face in your hands in the futile hopes of hiding your blush, but by now it's probably too late for that.
You stutter out your thanks, desperately trying to mend your scattered thoughts, and she once again wishes you a happy birthday, reminding you as well to bring your poetry assignment to the club meeting tomorrow.
As she's leaving, you realize you never got the chance to ask about the strange behavior she'd exhibited during the meeting with the other students.

The Demon Brothers + College AU + (Cliche?) First Meetings
Tumblr media
So an anon sent me the above ask, and it may have gotten a little out of hand ;;;
I also kind of switched it up and made it college instead. Hopefully the meetings I came up with are still somewhat cliche! Or, at the very least, cute lol
Tumblr media
Lucifer:
You’re running late for class on the first day of the semester and he holds the elevator door open for you when he sees the desperate look on your face, and how you’re making a dash for the closing doors.
“Thank you,” you breathe out as you try to get ahold of yourself, hoping that the tall, handsome male beside you doesn’t see or hear the way you’re struggling for air. (It’s 8am, okay? Your body isn’t ready to be running so early.)
“Which floor do you need?” he asks, smiling politely. You respond “four”, and he hums to himself while hitting the button.
When he doesn’t press a different button, you assume he’s heading to the same floor.
“Thanks, by the way,” you say, flashing him a small smile. “You really saved my ass.”
“No thanks needed,” he responds, gaze shifting to look at the small screen above the door. The second floor moves past with a quiet beep. Silence falls for a couple of seconds.
“May I ask what class you’re heading to?”
“Ah, it’s a psychology lab,” you respond, laughing to yourself after a beat. You pull your phone from your pocket, trying to find the screenshot you’d taken of your schedule. “I signed up for this one because Rate My Professor said the TA is hot.”
“Oh? Is that so?” You’re not paying attention, so you don’t see the smirk that tugs at his lips.
The next moment, the elevator stops and the two of you step out together. You exit first, flashing the male one last smile before you turn your attention to your phone, double checking the room number. Lucifer brushes past you without saying a word, and you don’t realize that you’re headed in the same direction until you glance up, and find him holding the classroom door open for you.
“After you,” he says, and while you’re confused, you dip your head in thanks and make your way in. Since you’re one of the last ones in the classroom, you get stuck sitting in the front row.
As you unpack your things, Lucifer steps to the head of the room and sets his computer bag down onto the desk.
“Good morning, class,” he says, his gaze shifting to you when you look up and see that it’s him who is speaking--a vibrant blush rising to your face as you recall what you’d told him in the elevator.
“My name is Lucifer, and I will be the TA for this lab.”
Mammon:
You’re in the large, open eating area at the campus student union when he bumps into you.
Instantly, the greasy, cheesy pizza on your tray jumps up and lands on the front of your shirt. You freeze in shock, wide eyes glancing down as the personal pizza slides down your chest before flopping back onto the tray.
“Oi, watch where you’re going,” a voice says behind you, and you slowly turn around to face the apparently dumbass man who doesn’t even have the sensibility to apologize to you.
Despite that fact that he sounds pompous, you can’t deny that his styled white hair, and pierced ears are kind of charming.
“You backed into me,” you tell him, attempting to keep your calm. You almost lose it when you see his eyes rake down to your chest, staring at the likely un-washable stain on the fabric. He stares much too long, and you’re just about to curse at him when he speaks up again.
“Uhhh...,” he raises a hand to sheepishly rub at his neck, and when you look closely, you see that a blush has spread across his face. “Y-ya know what, maybe it is my fault...can I, um, buy ya another pizza?”
You blink, surprised at the sudden turn around in his attitude.
“That would be nice,” you say honestly, and suddenly he’s smiling, hopping back into the pizza line, which is right beside where the two of you had collided.
“I-If ya want, I’ll lend you my jacket because of, ya know, your shirt,” he says, motioning to your obviously ruined top. You cock an eyebrow at him.
“You’d give a stranger your jacket?”
“Well...I’m kind of hoping that you’ll have lunch with me, and we won’t be strangers for long,” he mumbles, gaze shying away. “Or, ya know, that I can get your number at least.”
“You’re really pushing it,” you tell him with a laugh, and you can see his feathers ruffle. He’s obviously embarrassed at you calling out his flirting. “But...maybe we can eat lunch together. Since you’re paying.”
He blinks, shocked at your words, but soon breaks into a smile. Self-satisfied, he continues grinning stupidly even as the cashier calls him up. However, when he pulls out his wallet, swipes his card, and it comes back denied...
“Uhh...can you pay this time? I PROMISE I’ll pay you back.”
You sigh, and debate throttling him.
Levi:
You sit next to him in a lecture hall, and can’t help but notice that the background on his laptop is Sailor Moon.
When you reach down to dig a notebook out of your bag, you also see the number of anime and video game pins decorating the front of his backpack.
While you don’t tend to talk to strangers, you can’t help but say something.
“Hey, um,” you start, catching his attention. He freezes, amber eyes shifting to look at you--wide with surprise. You smile, doing your best to come off as casual, and friendly. “I noticed all the pins on your backpack. Do you like anime? I started watching Demon Slayer the other week, and I’m in love with it.”
“I...you...,” his surprise shifts to wonder as he regards you. The slightest blush rises on his cheeks. “You watch anime???”
“Yeah,” you laugh. “Is that so weird?”
“N-no, I guess not,” he mumbles, his hands fiddling with the cuffs of his hoodie. You wonder if you’ve made a mistake by talking to him, since he seems so shy--
“Do you play video games too??” he breaks you out of your thoughts as he scoots forward, eyes sparkling. He’s whispering hurriedly, eyes briefly straying to glance at the time on his laptop. “I recently started playing Doki Doki Literature club, and it’s crazy. I love RPG games, and Indie games too--like IB, and Mad Father. Witches House is also good. Of course, I’ll give pretty much any video game a chance, but--”
At that moment, the professor steps up and addresses the class. Levi’s words cut off, and his blush deepens as he suddenly realizes that he’d gone on a mini fanboy rant. However, you just smile at him, hoping that you come off reassuring, and turn to your notebook.
During the lecture, you’re too busy taking notes to notice the way he sneaks glances your way. And when the class finally ends, and you move to repack your belongings, you look up to find him staring at you.
“Is something on your mind?” you ask him.
“I...um...I-I was wondering if I could get your contact info. You know...f-for class stuff, and maybe, if..if you wanted to, we could also talk more about anime…?”
“Sure!” you say, and he blinks, apparently shocked by your willingness. The two of you proceed to exchange emails and phone numbers, and by the time you arrive at your next class 15 minutes later, 6 new text messages (about anime, video games, and the like) from Levi are lighting up your phone screen.
Satan:
He’s volunteering at the library when you approach him, desperate for help finding a textbook you need to scan for a class. You’ve looked everywhere, but still can’t find it.
“You do realize that this code is indicating that this textbook is online, right? Not physically in the library?” he asks you, a bit of amusement swimming in his eyes when he hands your phone back to you--the screen open to an email your professor had sent a few days before.
You feel heat rise on your cheeks. “Ah, nope. Did not realize...”
“It happens often, actually. I’m sorry for teasing, I shouldn’t have” he says, smiling at you. “If you want, you can come around the desk, and I’ll show you how to access the textbook online. That way, you won’t be confused next time.”
“Thank you,” you sigh, scooting your way around the desk. Satan pulls up a spare chair beside him, and your knee accidentally knocks against his as you take a seat.
“Here, you just have to search for it in the library portal,” he says, and you attentively watch as he guides you through the online website. However, when he starts going off into a spiel on all of the other cool resources and books available to students online, your attention strays.
You notice the copy of Jane Eyre open on the desk beside the computer.
“Are you reading a book that’s assigned in high school AP Lit?”
He blinks in confusion, but immediately goes on the defense when he notices where you’re looking.
“Hey, Jane Eyre is a classic. And the help desk is far too slow some days. I need something to keep me busy.”
“Hmm, I guess that’s fair,” you respond, smiling. You move to grab your bag--pressing to your feet. “I can’t blame you either, considering I actually enjoyed reading it once upon a time. The Great Gatsby was probably my next favorite.”
“Personally, out of all the high school literature, I enjoyed Fahrenheit 451,” he responds, grinning when he sees the disgruntled look on your face at hearing the name of the book.
“Really?? I still have no idea what it was about.”
He’s quiet for a moment. You turn to look at him, and find him regarding you with interest.
Satan smiles.
“Can I buy you a coffee?”
Asmo:
Asmo is working a booth about safe sex in the student union when you approach, hoping to get free condoms (or maybe even donate to support the organization, considering it’s a good cause).
“Well, hello there, gorgeous,” he says, smiling at you as you survey the goodies and pamphlets laid out on the table. He comes off as a little flirty, but mostly friendly, and well intentioned. “Are you here to buy one of our prettily shaped chocolates?”
He motions to the cup full of vagina-shaped chocolates on a stick. Your eyebrows raise. Huh.
“Well, that’s not why I stopped, but I may need to buy one now,” you laugh, making him smile. Asmo leans forward onto his elbows, his eyes twinkling up at you.
“Are you here for the condoms then? If so, feel free to take a handful. We have a ton prepared. People on this campus fuck like bunnies, honestly.”
You laugh. “Oh? Well, good on you guys for protecting all of the precious, needy students.”
He nods sagely, moving to gather you a few of the wrapped condoms, along with some educational reading material. “Can’t have a bunch of students getting diseases, or pregnant. Sex should be fun and safe. Always! And if it’s not both, then find someone else to fuck.”
“Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind,” you say, smiling as he hands you your free goodies. Your eyes stray back to the vagina chocolates. “How much for one of those?”
“5 dollars,” he says, reaching over to grab one. “Pricey, I know, but the money goes to a good cause.”
“I don’t doubt it,” you laugh, pulling a 5 from your wallet. The two of you exchange items, and you pocket the chocolate. You flash him one last smile, intending to walk away, but he pipes up before you get too far.
“By the way, we’re having a class on BDSM safety tonight~” You pause at his words, turning to face him, and he grins at the look of interest plain on your face. “In case you’re interested.”
“Are you...implying something?” you ask, posing a hand on your hip as you turn to face him. He cocks his head to the side innocently.
“I would never~ But you’ve left a good impression in the two minutes we’ve known each other, and I’m the one teaching the class, so~ I’d be thrilled to see you there.”
You raise an eyebrow, surprised, but amused as well. “Maybe I’ll see you tonight.”
With that, you turn on your heel and head to class. But you definitely end up attending the class that night.
Beel:
You meet during a 1-credit, weekend Yoga class. He puts his mat down next to yours, and you can’t help but stare at his biceps, and triceps, and...wow he’s really built.
Aside from that, though, he looks pretty concerned.
“Have you never done yoga before?” you ask him, smiling politely. Having caught his attention, he turns to look at you--the same adorable frown pulling at his lips.
“No...I like to work out, but I’ve never done yoga...I’m not very flexible.” You watch him as he demonstrations by sticking his legs out and trying to touch his toes. His fingertips only reach halfway down his calves.
“It’s okay!” you tell him. “I’m pretty new to yoga too! And this is just an intro course, so I wouldn’t worry. Most of the grade comes from knowing technical terms, and I’ve heard this instructor is really nice.”
At that, he finally smiles--relieved to hear you say so.
“I’m Beel, by the way,” he says.
“Y/N,” you respond, but before the two of you get the chance to talk more, the instructor arrives. You then spend the next few hours smiling to yourself as you watch Beel struggle to get into poses. Luckily, he doesn’t seem to mind that you’re getting humor out of his situation.
“Did you not eat today?” you ask him when lunch finally rolls around, flopping back against your mat. He shakes his head, rummaging around in his bag. You can hear his stomach growling.
“I had an extra large breakfast since I knew I would be burning calories, but I’m starving now…” He pulls an entire sub from his bag, and when you catch a peek at the inside, you realize that the entire backpack is stuffed with only food. Holy shit.
But...you suppose he does need to eat a lot, if he works out a lot.
“I’m gonna grab a soda, and I’ll be back,” you say quietly, assuming that you’ll be eating lunch together, since he’s already turning to face your mat.
“Okay,” he says with a smile, and you smile back at him, excited to get to know him more. However, before you can even get a step away,  you’re tripping over your backpack
The world spins, and you hold your arms in front of you--expecting to eat shit--but you don’t meet the floor. Two arms curl beneath you and your body rolls--your ass landing between folded legs.
You blink in surprise, blushing when you glance up and find that it’s none other than Beel who is holding you. Concern is written on his face. He doesn’t seem the least bit concerned that you’re currently occupying his lap.
“Are you okay?” he asks, not moving to release you, and oh boy you think your heart may beat straight out of your chest.
Belphie:
You meet him in the library computer lab at 11:48pm, on the last day of finals.
You trudge into the computer lab, bordering on going blind. You’ve spent the last 6 hours writing out your term paper, and had felt pretty fucking proud when you’d finished with a whole 30 minutes to spare, but just as you’d gone to submit the paper online, your apartment wi-fi had cut out
Of course.
So, you pop a squat at one of the many computers--not even realizing that someone else is in the lab until you hear a quiet snore.
Immediately, you’re pausing, standing to glance around the room. A few computers down, sitting parallel to you, is a dark haired male, with his head down on the keyboard.
Honestly, you debate not waking him. He probably needs the rest, but as a fellow student, and considering it’s the last day of finals? You can’t just leave him be in good conscience.
“Hey, uh, dude?” you call out, glancing at him from over the row of computers. He doesn’t stir. “Heyyyy~ It’s almost midnight,” you say a bit louder. “I don’t know if you’re writing something, but you better submit it.”
Finally, he stirs.
“Aw, fuck,” you hear him grumble, and he lifts his head up--his tired gaze turning to look at you. He sighs. “Thanks. You probably just saved my ass.”
“No worries,” you respond, laughing a little. You sit back down in your seat, and put in your credentials....only for the computer to indicate that you’ve put in the wrong password.
“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me,” you say, deadpanning, and try another password. Then another, and another. None of them work, and you don’t have enough time left to change it.
“I’m gonna fucking jump off the roof,” you deadpan, holding your face in your hands. Belphie chuckles.
“Something wrong?”
“I guess I don’t know my computer password, so I can’t log in and submit my paper.” You say, glancing up. This time, it’s Belphie who is glancing over the row of monitors at you, eyebrow raised.
“You can come use mine. I just submitted my paper. Just log into the school site with your ID.”
“You’re a lifesaver,” you sigh, and Belphie scoots his chair over as you walk around the aisle to meet him. Again, he laughs.
“Eye for an eye.”
“That’s...you use that phrase with enemies,” you tell him, unable to help the smile that spreads across your face. He blinks, and then groans.
“Fuck, you’re right. I’m still asleep. Just...forget I said that.”
“Actually, I think I’ll remember it forever,” you respond, and he grins, his eyes shifting to look at the keyboard as you type out your password.
“Okay, OppaiLover69 exclamation point.”
You feel your cheeks heat up, and when you see the shit-eating look at his face, you debate throwing hands. He’s lucky he’s cute.

A Pirate's Life for a Prince (Part 1)
Summary: Roman was a dashing Captain, content with his exciting life out at sea, diving head first into adventure both on and off land. He wouldn't give up his life for anything, and yet he found himself...lacking something. He was never sure what.
When he meets Virgil, a seemingly common traveler in an old tavern, that lacking feeling in his chest goes away for the first time in a long while. So surely there's no harm in offering the stranger and his friend a ride, right?
Notes: @cheshirevalentine is the reason this au exists, they've done so much to help me create this story and so many others. I owe them so much, thank you for being my muse and letting me ramble constantly <3
part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6
The Captain swiveled around as soon as the first punch was thrown, watching from his seat at the bar as one of his crew and a drunk local quarreled on the other side of the tavern.
Roman glanced at Logan seated beside him, chuckling quietly at the look on his first mate’s face as the pair watched the drunken fight.
“I could break it up, you know,” Roman boasted, making a face as he took a swig of the drink he would never admit he loathed the taste of. It fit his image- the image of the daring pirate Captain that Roman had read stories of long before he’d gotten his own ship- so Roman kept the drink in his hand and forced down another mouthful. “It’d be easy. Easier than walking.”
“You will do no such thing,” Logan said, and Roman knew his friend would much rather be back aboard the ship, safe and warm with a good book. “Sit still and at least try to pretend you enjoy the taste of alcohol.”
Sit still? Roman had never sat still in his life, Logan should know better than to feed him such blasphemy. He let go of the retort on the tip of his tongue in favor of taking another uncomfortable sip of his drink, trying and failing to hide the way his face screwed up in disgust at the abhorrent taste.
Logan watched him, amused, before draining the rest of his glass with ease. Roman resisted the urge to gag. The price of having a reputation as a fearsome captain was, apparently, drinking incredibly shitty alcohol to look cool and tough. The life was exciting, and the bounty was worth the price. But by God, the drink was foul.
Logan rolled his eyes, swapping their glasses. “You’re ridiculous.”
“It’s for the image, Logan. You wouldn’t understand.” Roman retorted, though he didn’t protest the swap. He wasn’t going to finish it anyways.
Logan didn’t respond, just flashed his captain another deadpan look to which Roman responded with a bright grin before turning his attention back to the fight at the other side of the bar.
They were both clearly very drunk, swaying on their feet, their punches wide and sloppy, so Roman wasn’t particularly worried about anyone causing any serious damage.
Roman didn’t even particularly like taverns, and he knew for a fact Logan only came along to make sure he didn’t get himself into trouble, but bars like this were the best place to sit back and observe the most interesting people.
After weeks at sea in cramped quarters with the same faces, Roman couldn’t think of a better way to spend the night before they left again the next morning.
It wasn’t that he didn’t love his ship. He did! He wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world. He was the dashing and daring Captain Roman, fearlessly exploring the seas with a wonderful crew and his best friend right at his side.
And yet it never felt… complete. Something was wrong. Missing. It was never quite right, as perfect as it was, but for the life of him he could never voice exactly what was wrong.
A bell rang, barely audible above the commotion, and Roman tore his attention away from the fight to watch the newcomers open the door
Two strangers stepped inside, wrapped in dark cloaks that looked like they cost as much as Roman’s whole ship. They both looked a good two heads shorter than him or Logan, and judging by their clothes, a tavern like this was not the kind of place they frequented.
One of them had their hood draped over their head to conceal their face, the other holding the tavern door open and ushering their friend inside.
A disgruntled yell from the other side of the bar turned Roman’s attention back to the drunken fight, and he saw Logan give the newcomers a brief once-over himself.
Roman watched as the fight gradually slowed down, his crewman clearly a little less adept at handling his alcohol, eventually ending up sprawled out on the floor with a broken nose and split lip. Pity, he thought he taught his men how to hold their own in a fight.
Movement out of the corner of his eye caught Roman’s attention, and he watched curiously as a man from the other end of the bar got up from his stool and sauntered over to the table where the two cloaked strangers had settled down.
He was tall, about Roman’s height, smirking dangerously with a drink in one hand, the sword tucked into its sheath just barely visible underneath his coat.
He finished his drink as he made it to the table, his eyes on the hooded stranger. Roman could just barely make out what was being said from the bar.
“Well aren’t you a sight for sore eyes,” he purred, leaning forward with his free hand resting on the table. “You new here or something?”
The stranger didn’t respond, and while Roman couldn’t see their face from where he was seated, he could see his companion visibly tense, reaching over to touch his arm.
“Yes, I’m talkin’ to you,” the man continued, his smirk growing as he looked the stranger over. “Prettiest thing in town, why wouldn’t I be talkin’ to ya?”
The stranger lifted his head, just enough for Roman to catch a glimpse of a pale face and dark hair, before looking back down at their lap. “I...uh. Thank you?”
“So you’re new here, then?” the man asked again. “You seem so nervous. Let me buy you a drink, it’ll mellow ya out.”
Both cloaked strangers tensed, and Roman’s wariness grew along with theirs. He knew that look, knew that tone of voice, knew exactly the intentions a man like that had.
“No thank you,” the hooded one said, barely audible, his friend’s hand still on his arm. “Sorry, I’m… not interested.”
“You don’t have to be so shy.” The man tilted his head as he leaned in closer, and Roman found himself already getting up from his stool. “Come on, handsome. Let me buy you a drink, it’ll loosen you up. I promise.”
Roman started forward, ready to remind this asshole that no meant no, only to stop with a hand grabbed his wrist, pulling him to a stop.
“Roman.” Logan already looked exhausted, and Roman hadn’t even done anything yet. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Roman grinned, pulling his arm away with a wink he knew would only annoy his first mate further. “Saving a damsel in distress, of course.”
“But we agreed to avoid any confrontation—”
Roman waved him off and made his way across the bar, all his attention back to the man who still hadn’t left the table alone.
“I said no thank you,” the stranger said, and his voice made it clear he was trembling. “I don’t want a drink.”
“Oh, come on. I—”
“Pardon me,” Roman interjected, sweeping the man’s hand out from under him on the table. “I believe he said no. If you would be so kind as to leave now, that would be wonderful.”
The man gave him a disgruntled look, to which Roman responded with an even smile. “Piss off, prissy. No one asked you, he’s just being coy.”
“He said no.”
The man shoved Roman’s shoulder, scowling when he refused to stumble back. “And I said piss off.”
Roman could almost picture Logan’s eye roll as he squared his shoulders and shoved back, admittedly with a bit more force than necessary. He thought briefly back to what Logan always said, about how his Captain never backed down. And about how it was going to get them all killed one day.
And yet here his first mate was, standing at his elbow, stiff and unmoving as Roman stared his opponent down.
He was a bit bigger than Roman, the alcohol in his system clearly making him a bit unpredictable, scowling at Logan before narrowing his eyes at Roman, who simply smiled again, a cold warning.
“You need to learn the difference between coy and not interested, scoundrel. Leave him alone or I’ll be forced to remove you from the area.”
It was all a show, hopefully enough to get this drunk asshole to see reason and back off before someone got hurt.
But if a fight was what he wanted, then a fight was what he would get. Roman wasn’t one to chicken out of a confrontation, as much as Logan would like him to, from something silly like a little fear. Fear was a secondary emotion! It didn’t rule him.
Besides, he had someone to protect this time. And with Logan at his side, he was unstoppable.
Logan was going to kill him, of course, but that was a problem for later.
The man scoffed and set his empty glass on the table, looking back at the hooded stranger with another smirk. “Give me a second to handle this, alright? We’ll talk after.”
He winked, before winding back and swinging, his fist connecting right with Roman’s jaw. The Captain jerked backwards, stumbling slightly before he threw himself forward, tackling the man to the floor.
The tavern erupted into chaos, drunk bystanders cheering and shouting as the fight became the center of attention. Roman thought he saw someone start towards them, probably one of this asshole’s friends, only to smile when Logan immediately intercepted.
No matter how tired Logan pretended to be of Roman jumping head first into danger, he knew his friend would always be right there with him.
He wrestled with his assailant, blocking a punch to the face and grabbing the man’s arm, pinning it firmly to the ground. The surrounding bystanders continued to cheer as Roman got the upperhand, suspecting that his opponent being a little drunk helped the Captain overpower him.
Roman managed his way on top of the man, straddling him and pulling his gun from his belt. He cocked the weapon and put it to the forehead of the assailant, watching with a satisfied smile as he froze.
“If you dare come near this young man again, I’ll make sure I have a bullet saved just for you. Do I make myself perfectly clear?”
The man glared, scowling as he looked away from Roman’s cold stare. “Crystal.”
“Good.” Roman stood, wiping the blood from his nose and rubbing his jaw, his pistol trained on the man as he struggled to sit up. “Up now, I’d like to see you and your wounded pride leave my tavern.”
He struggled to his feet and spat blood at the floor, glaring daggers at Roman as he limped towards the exit, the crowd parting.
As soon as the tavern door slammed shut, Roman turned to Logan and the young man he’d saved with a smug smile, twirling the pistol on his finger.
“It’s not even loaded,” he stage-whispered, turning back to Logan with a playful pout when the stranger’s eyes widened. “What? Not even a ‘good job?’ Anything?”
Logan raised an eyebrow, ever unamused. “You were reckless.”
“You have no appreciation for your Captain, Logan,” Roman said. “Truly. My splendor would be a waste if I had not been saving a pretty man.”
The resident “damsel in distress” was watching Roman with wide eyes, turning only when his friend took his arm again, leaning in close to whisper, “Can we go now?”
Roman realized he hadn’t even bothered to check in, too busy flaunting his victory to his first mate. He turned back to the table and forcibly relaxed his shoulders, hoping to come across as non-threatening as possible.
“I’m sorry about all that,” he said, cocky smiling softening to something more gentle. “Are you two alright? No bumps or anything?”
Roman had meant to address both of them, it was the polite thing to do after all, but he found himself meeting the wary eyes of the stranger with the hood. His chest felt light, his smile easy and a little excited, ignoring the way Logan was probably motioning for them to leave as quickly as possible.
“I’m fine,” the stranger said, still visibly nervous. He was much smaller than Roman, and definitely the most cleaned up person in the bar. “We’re… both fine. We’re ok. Uh, thank you for… that. Thank you.”
The Captain pressed his sleeve to his still slowly trickling nose bleed, quickly wiping away what he could. “I loathe to say it, but that sort of thing happens in bars like this all the time. Are you two not from around here? Travelers, maybe?”
“I… uh, yes. I’m- we’re travelers. We’re just passing through. You’re… uh, you’re bleeding. A little bit.”
Roman broke his now probably uncomfortable eye contact to glance down at his sleeve, blood splattered on his wrist and knuckles. “It appears I am. A small price to pay, I suppose.”
Logan was suddenly beside him again, and he beamed when his first mate handed him a neatly folded handkerchief. He always seemed to have something on him to clean up cuts and scrapes since his Captain always seemed to get into fights.
He took the cloth and pressed it to the blood flow, turning back to the table with another sweet smile. He should politely excuse himself instead of making conversation but… well, he wanted to keep talking to the cute stranger he’d saved.
“Where are you two heading, if you don’t mind me asking?”
The stranger blinked, glancing briefly at his friend before answering. “Uh, we’re not… really sure yet. We just wanted to see the city, you know?”
“Sightseeing?” Roman echoed, brightening. “Oh, this city is so beautiful, especially at night! Perhaps Logan and I could accompany you before we set off for Deigh in the morning?”
“That’s… really nice of you to offer,” the stranger said, eyes bright. “But I don’t even know your name.”
“Oh, of course! Where are my manners?” Roman smiled warmly, extending a hand to shake. “Roman. It’s a pleasure to meet you…?”
The stranger accepted the offered hand, his touch a little cold and timid. “Virgil.”
“Virgil,” Roman repeated, smiling brightening as he took Virgil’s hand and gently raised it to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to the back of it. “A beautiful name. How about that trip around the city, Virgil?”
Virgil’s face went red, much to Roman’s delight, and he gave a small nod. “I’d like that, Roman. If you have the time.”
He was sure his own face was flushed similarly, even as he unfortunately had to let go of Virgil’s hand. “For you, darling? I have all the time in the world.”
He led Virgil outside, watching as he sent his friend a reassuring smile before exiting the tavern, Logan following close behind.
“Any requests before we head off?”
“Wherever you want to go,” Virgil said, hesitating outside the tavern doors. “You’re the expert, right?”
Roman offered Virgil his elbow, like a gentleman should, his smile widening and Virgil accepted the gesture. "Well lucky for you two, you're partying with the best."
He’s full of shit. He doesn’t know this city, he’s not from here. He’s only been here a day and a half.
It was fine, he’d figure it out despite having absolutely no idea where he was going. It didn’t matter anyway, because Virgil smiled at him as the Captain led the small group down the street, and Roman’s heart had never felt so full.
“I’m not exactly the best navigator,” Roman admitted. “But I’m sure the city can’t be that difficult to walk around.”
All he could do was hope Logan would know the layout of the city and jump in to help. Roman didn’t know where they were or how to get anywhere.
His first mate never did offer any assistance, and Roman suspected it was some kind of petty revenge for starting a bar fight. Logan and Virgil’s friend (whose name Roman soon learned was Patton) fell a few paces behind to talk, leaving Roman to guide Virgil around the city, improvising a lavish tour.
He was fairly certain Virgil could tell everything Roman was saying about the city was absolute bullshit, and that he had absolutely no idea where they were, but he seemed to enjoy the show the Captain was putting on.
Virgil was laughing and smiling, genuinely lighting up with each joke and story Roman told, eyes widening whenever Roman would mention his adventures out at sea.
By far, this was the best time Roman had had on land in a long while. Virgil was a little jittery, sure, but he was slowly relaxing, his smile never faltering. Roman adored being able to make someone smile like this.
But, of course, all good things must come to an end. Eventually, the moon high in the late night sky, Roman led the group right back to where they’d started, his heart aching as he slowed them to a stop outside the tavern.
“It really was wonderful to meet you, Virgil,” Roman said, his playful smile softening. “Thank you for allowing Logan and I to accompany you around the city.”
Virgil hesitated, fiddling with the cloak around his shoulders. He glanced at Patton- who had been giving Roman a harsh side glare nearly the entire tour- before turning back to the Captain, visibly nervous.
“Where did you say you were heading?”
Roman smiled again, ridiculously relieved Virgil wasn’t jumping at the opportunity to get away from the Captain. Roman knew he was charming, sure, but people often found him a bit...obnoxious. It had been a while since someone besides Logan had really enjoyed his company.
“My crew and I set off for Deigh first thing tomorrow morning,” Roman said. “It’s a ways away, so I thought it was best to give them a day to rest before we head off.” It was starting to feel more like polite small talk now, but he’d take whatever would let him talk to Virgil for just a little longer. “And you? Any idea where you plan to go after this?”
Virgil met his eyes, and Roman left breathless at the beautiful brown and gray. He seemed to steel himself before answering. “I was…actually thinking of visiting Deigh. Is there any way you could give us a ride? I’d pay you, of course. I have the money.”
Roman brightened, his face splitting into a grin, but Patton spoke up before the Captain could answer.
“Well, hold on now kiddo. I thought—”
“It’s a far journey, you know,” Roman interrupted, too excited to let him finish. “And we aren’t exactly a passenger ship. But I’m sure we could work something out for you!”
He glanced over his shoulder at Logan, his first mate staring with a displeased frown. This was a terrible idea, of course. Pirates don’t take passengers. They’re pirates!
But not only was he offering to pay, he was also incredibly cute and sweet and funny and he made Roman’s heart do somersaults. And he made that quiet, sick sort of feeling of missing something go away. So really, it was an all-around win.
“That's really kind of you,” Virgil said, soft and just as excited as Roman. “Are you sure it’s okay? I know it’s last second and everything.”
“It’ll be fine,” Roman assured. Oh, Logan was going to murder him. Logan was going to smother him in his sleep tonight. Which would be easy, considering they’d be rooming together. Not that Logan knew that yet. “I assume you’ve been on a ship before. You’re not going to freak out two days in because you can’t see land, are you?”
“Of course I have!” Virgil matched Roman’s excited grin as he rushed to his own defense. “I’ll be fine.”
“Perfect!” Roman stepped back, sending the small group a dazzling smile. “We’ll get you to Deigh, traveler. I’m sure the crew will love you.” He turned towards the direction he and Logan had come from, the docks just a short walk from the tavern. “Shall we be off, then?”
He glanced between the two travelers, determined to avoid Logan’s stare. Virgil glanced at Patton, his friend shifting on his feet a bit, fiddling with the sleeves of the sweater he wore under his cloak, just barely visible through the dark cloth.
“Patton?” Virgil asked, turning away from Roman for a moment. “You’re… good with this?”
Patton startled, quickly plastering on a bright smile. “I’m good to go kiddo, don’t look at me. Where you go, I go. I’m just… a little worried, is all. I know how you get… seasick.”
They seemed to be having a silent conversation in their stares, entirely separate from what Roman and Logan were hearing, and the Captain quickly averted his gaze, watching his boots as he waited.
“Right,” Virgil said, quiet and hesitant. “I’ll be fine, but I- I know you don’t love… boats. And you really like this city.”
Patton laughed, the sound weak and full of deflated cheer. “I like you more than I like the city, Virgil. And it’s another adventure! Where you go, I’m going too. Always.”
Roman remembered having a similar conversation with Logan more than once, and his smile had turned soft and almost wistful by the time Virgil turned back to him, his own excitement rapidly returning.
“Okay,” he said. “I think we’re ready, if you’re sure there’s room for us.”
“There’s plenty of room! Come on, I’ll lead the way.”
Roman started down the street, fairly certain he knew where he was going, forcing himself to slow his excited pace when he realized no one else was able to keep up with it.
Apparently, he did not know the way as well as he thought he did. It became clear he’d gotten them lost when they passed the same building twice, and Logan took the lead with a quiet sigh, bringing the group to the docks.
Roman’s excitement only grew the closer they got, practically jogging by the time the water came into view, the temptation to bound up the gangplank and reunite with his beloved ship nearly overtaking him.
Flooded with adoration as they approached, Roman turned to face the group with his arms swept out, motioning towards his ship.
“There she is!” he announced. “The Calypso, in all of her splendor! Isn’t she gorgeous?”
She was, of course, but he felt a swell of pride in his chest when he took in Virgil’s wide eyed, almost starstruck stare.
“She is,” Virgil said, sounding a bit breathless. “Wow.”
The Calypso had been his home for many years, sanctuary from the wind and rain, from the waves and the land, every moment on her deck an adventure waiting to happen. Roman occasionally felt the pang of homesickness in his gut, but he’d been content for a long time.
He beamed at Virgil and Patton, still carefully avoiding looking at Logan, who was being oddly quiet. “I’ll show you two to your room and let you get settled.”
He offered Virgil a hand, and the other young man didn’t hesitate this time before taking it. Roman felt like Virgil’s hand belonged here, entangled in his own.
He led the four of them onto the ship, careful to make sure Virgil kept his balance when he first stepped on board, easily falling into stories of his adventures, eagerly telling his guests about the exciting life of a pirate- and probably overselling it. Just a bit.
Roman brought them below deck, stopping in front of the door to the Captain’s quarters, realizing he really should have at least mentioned this part of his last minute plan to his first mate.
“And, uh… this is your room,” Roman told their guests, motioning at his own door. “Logan and I will be right across the hall.”
He could practically feel Logan staring at him, just inches away where he stood quietly. His first mate was going to flay him alive for this.
Well, they’d talk about it later. In detail, seeing as how they’d be sharing a room for the foreseeable future.
Virgil reluctantly let go of Roman’s hand, seeming to pick up on the unspoken tension. “Thank you, but Patton and I can really stay anywhere if this is inconvenient. I know this is all spur of the moment.”
“Not at all,” Logan spoke up, to Roman’s surprise. “It makes more sense for you to be comfortable than staying with the rest of the crew.”
“A room change won’t kill us,” Roman added, grateful Logan was at least pretending not to be furious in front of Virgil. “And spur of the moment is my specialty, I can assure you.”
Virgil still hesitated, clearly worried and a little overwhelmed, but he relaxed just a bit when Patton reached over to squeeze his hand.
“Thank you,” Virgil said again, and Roman knew even Logan couldn’t resist someone so genuinely grateful. “I… I really, really appreciate this.”
“It’s no problem,” Roman said, placing a reassuring hand on Virgil’s shoulder. “But it’s getting late, we should all turn in.”
Virgil relaxed under his touch, tension seeping out of his shoulders as he nodded. “Goodnight, then. And… thank you again. I mean it.”
“Goodnight, you two,” Roman said, lifting his hand from Virgil’s shoulder. “Sleep well.”
He turned, swiftly making his way across the hall and letting himself into Logan’s room without another word, leaving the door open for his first mate to follow.
Roman heard Virgil and Patton step inside their room and close the door behind them, followed by Logan moving to stand in the open doorway, hesitating a moment before stepping inside.
His friend sighed, and he sounded exhausted. “What the hell are you doing, Roman?”
“I’m just helping!” Roman turned around to face him, hands wrung in front of him. “He said he wanted to get to Deigh! It’s not like it’s even out of our way, I’m not changing course. We'll still be on schedule and on par for where we should be."
Logan sighed again, pushing up his glasses to pinch the bridge of his nose, and Roman started to pace the length of the cabin. “Roman, we do not take passengers. You just met this man in a bar.”
"And he needed to get to Deigh! He's paying us to take him, Lo!” As he walked, he fidgeted with the (still unloaded) gun on his hip, starting the process of taking it apart. “This isn't the end of the world."
He watched as Logan closed the door behind him, moving to sit on the edge of his bed and watch Roman move. “I don’t understand. We never take passengers, and you insisted on giving these two your room.”
After years of practice, Roman could dismantle his gun with ease by now. His hands were constantly moving, taking things apart and putting them back together, especially when he was nervous. As he walked, he disassembled it, turning every few paces to walk in the other direction, his eyes downcast towards the weapon.
“I just… they needed a ride, Logan. I wanted to help them.” Roman started, his voice making a valiant attempt to catch in his throat. “I know I… should have talked to you first. I can sleep on the deck, it’s not an issue.”
“You’re not sleeping on the deck,” Logan said. “You're sleeping in here. I'm not angry with you about the rooms, I just want to know why you were so willing to change your plans for a stranger.”
Roman didn’t respond for a moment, steadily reassembling his gun and tucking it back into his waistband. “I didn’t change my plans, the plan is exactly the same as it was. The passengers were simply an added surprise.”
“An added surprise you usually would never allow,” Logan pointed out, and Roman resorted to fidgeting with his collar as he paced. “And giving up your room? Logically, you would put them with the rest of the crew. Why do Virgil and Patton get special treatment?”
Roman paused for a moment, his back to Logan, but he was back to moving almost instantly. “They… seemed like they wouldn’t do well with the crew. And I’d rather not cause a disrupt right before we leave. Too much trouble.”
Roman was quickly running out of excuses, but Logan didn’t seem inclined to drop it. “They seem polite enough. I’m sure the crew wouldn’t have had any issues.”
The Captain just shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Roman,” Logan said. “Tell me what you’re doing.”
“I’m pacing, Logan,” Roman retorted, quickly buttoning and unbuttoning the top of his shirt. “Come on, four-eyes, you aren’t that blind.”
He heard Logan sigh, his first mate clearly biting back his own rising frustration. “The Captain of my ship just gave two complete strangers his room, and I cannot understand why.”
Roman finally stopped pacing and turned to face Logan, eyes on the floor as his hands dropped to his sides, shoulders falling. “I just… I want to take care of him. I don’t want him to be uncomfortable, Logan. I don’t want him to have to stay with the crew, he should have a space.”
A beat of silence, and he glanced up as Logan blinked at him. “Why?”
“We do this every time I have a crush,” Roman said, going right back to pacing, his hands running through his hair. “You’re so smart and you really can’t see that I… he… you saw him! Did you see him, Logan? Christ!”
“I… saw him,” Logan said slowly. “And he is here, in your room, because you… have romantic feelings for someone you just met in a bar tonight?”
“Yes!” Roman stopped again, face buried in his hands. “Thank you, Captain Obvious! I'll pass you the reins- you're the captain now! You got it! It only took you forever—”
“Roman you know nothing about Virgil. His name might not even be Virgil. Besides, you’ve just given up your room. If you decide to pursue him—”
“Pursue him?” Roman whirled around, eyes wide and face burning. “Logan I’m- that’s not… I’m not pursuing him! I just think he’s cute!” He glanced towards the door, lowering his voice to a whisper. “And keep your voice down, I don’t want them hearing us.”
Logan tilted his head, studying his Captain’s face. “Why? If you have romantic feelings for someone, isn't the best case scenario for them to be made aware?”
Roman groaned and lowered himself to the floor, covering his reddened face in his hands once again. “No, it’s not.”
“I don’t understand,” Logan said again. “He’ll be staying on your ship for an extended period of time and you… don't even plan on mentioning your feelings? That doesn’t seem logical.”
Feelings were never logical, especially love. Roman just didn’t know how to explain that out loud. “I don’t know, Lo. We aren’t even one night in, just… give it time, ok? I just let him on my ship and I don’t… I don’t want him to feel like he owes me something for it.”
The room was plunged into heavy silence, everything achingly quiet, but at least Roman knew Logan understood now.
“Ah.” he said after a moment, clearing his throat. “Apologies, I’m not… I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. Take your time, Roman.”
“I know, it’s ok.” The room was silent for another moment before Roman pushed himself to his feet, brushing himself off. “It’s late, you should get to sleep. Long day tomorrow.”
“You’re the one always talking about your beauty sleep,” Logan said, watching as Roman made his way to the door. “Where are you going?”
“I just need some air, that’s all. I’m always beautiful, a little lost sleep won't change that, I promise.”
“Roman—”
“Get some sleep,” Roman said, aware he was being uncharacteristically closed off. “I’ll be back in a bit.”
He turned the handle and slipped outside, quietly closing the door behind him, the quiet deck and crisp night air waiting with open arms as he left the rooms behind.

[~*~]
Iida drank a second cup of his special orange juice - used only on commemorative days and events - thoughtfully. His birthday party would be late in the evening and, since his family wanted to make it a surprise, he would spend the whole day hanging out with his brother, Aizawa-san and Hizashi-san until all the preparations would be complete. He, of course, offered himself to help with all the decorations, but his parents were firm on their decision and Tenya would be lying if he said he wasn’t excited to have some quality time with his brother and the other two heroes. Their work usually demanded a lot of their time.
Still locked on his thoughts, as the doorbell rang, the teenager opened the door without a second thought in a polite stance, being rudely pulled out of his own mind as he stared at Aizawa and Hizashi, both with dangerous smirks that suddenly filled Iida with clear memories of a tradition Tensei started on the boy’s birthday and his ‘uncles’ (Tenya one day protested at the nickname, pointing it didn’t make sense call them like that because they aren’t blood related. However, his parents explained that this was just a way to express fondness and closeness for someone you care about. The younger one began to call them uncles with more frequency, except on social gatherings) caught on it as well.
“Hello! ~” Hizashi chipped, making goosebumps run down his spine as Iida closed the door on their face, internally wincing at the clear disrespectful act, however valuing much more his safety than being a polite host.
(But, actually, he wasn’t truly anxious about it. They were always nice and kind with him, making him smile and enjoy himself, even when he wasn’t the perfect model he struggled to be.)
Tensei’s head peaked from the second living room’s hall as he dashed at full speed across it, accompanying his baby bro with ease and drops of confusion. “Who was it at the door?”
“Uncles!” Tenya frowned in concentration as he turned the corner, lowering his speed enough to not go face first on the wall, cheeks slightly red and sputtering starting to become present on his tune. “They are going to do that hideous tr-tradition you started when I was a kid!” And Iida Tenya, future hero from a whole noble ancestry of skilled heroes, definitely did NOT pout at his brother’s carefree laughter.
“Oh, yeah! I forgot about that! It’s so polite of them to help me to remember, don’t you think?”
“No!! It’s not polite! High level heroes like you shouldn’t be committing such embarrassing, hideous act in the first place, even less repeating it yearly!!”
“Aww, you’re repeating your words. You’re excited, aren’t you?” Tensei smiled, knowing his brother enough to notice that gleam in his eyes and the lack of a real protest in his words. He ignored the squeaked ‘NO!’ thrown at him and smiled even wider, doing a fast maneuver that put his body between his brother and the door, hugging him on his chest with a ‘oof’ when they inevitably collided. “You know what? Since they’re being so nice with us, I think we should repay their kindness, right?” Tensei grinned when he heard the footsteps coming closer, shouting “HEY, GUYS! BIRTHDAY BOY IS HERE!”
“Tensei!!” But he was already smiling, squirming excitedly on his brother’s hold, especially when a loud, happy ‘YEAHHH!’ boomed through the house. “No, no!! This is betrayal! Deception! Dishonesty! Trickery! Treason!!!”
“Now you’re just reciting the dictionary.” Ingenium laughed, no hint of regret on his voice, distractedly nodding at his friends when they appeared at the door. “Look,” he whispered, conspiratorially, “I will need you to distract them until Shouta lowers his guard so I can sneak upon him. Hizashi would never pass up an opportunity to tickle him too, so you will be safe to run and get something useful for us to bribe them with, ok?” The younger gasped, quickly nodding. “Right. So, are you ready for your part of the plan, sidekick?”
“YES!” Iida chomped the air, voice louder than he originally intended, but his squeal even louder as the other Iida squeezed his side before any hint of what they were talking about could be noticed by the two guests, who now were now much closer, I might say.
“Now, now. It seems like a little listener here is excited for his so desired birthday tickles!!” Hizashi wiggled his fingers in his direction, meaneancily. “Oh! They grow up so fast! It feels like it was yesterday we would be playing heroes, and I, the most incredible villain LoudChaos would be defeated by Ingenium Junior and his vicious attacks of kicking his pillows at me!!” The blond pinched his cheek playfully, watching as the groan of his nephew dissolved in a determined look a few seconds later, energetic gestures following him.
“You will never be able to crack me, villains. Not even with embarrassing memories from my childhood!”
“I don’t know, I think those times when we had to buy at least three copies of your favorite plushie because otherwise you wouldn’t let us wash the original was pretty- ack! Hey, hey!” Tensei snickered as he tried to dodge from Tenya’s warning kicks, “I was kidding! I was kidding!”
“Want me to hold him?” Aizawa asked nonchalantly, a small quirk of his mouth showing his amusement about the whole situation. At Tensei's affirmative nod he held the younger’s arms above his head, briefly messing with his neat combed hair before smirking. “Congrats for being twelve years next to death, brat.”
 Tenya deadpanned at him.
“Ooh, right, twelve!!” Hizashi’s fingers were teasingly getting closer, slowly and then even slowlier, almost touching a spot before pretending to launch at others, resulting in kicks and muffled shrieks from the younger one. “You know what that means, right, Shou?”
“Yes. We will have to tickle him for twelve entire years.”
 “Aw, such a pity.”
 “No! Lies! That is incorrect!”
“Is that so, not-so-little listener? What should we do then?”
“According to your rather silly and foolery tradition you should tickle me for twelve entire minutes. One minute for each year.”
Aizawa and Yamada shared a look, Tensei holding his chuckles and tears in the background. His brother was just way too much precious.
“We should what?” Shouta questioned with a voice completely devoid of emotion, maybe that is why Tenya felt the answer slip away from his lips easily even before he could register the potential trap.
 “Tickle me!”
“Well,” Hizashi attacked, skilled fingers tickling and tickling and tickling every spot they could research. “If you insist.”
There were fingers dancing on his ribs and poking his stomach as a maddening prodding began to be delivered on his sides and even a squeeze found its way to his knee. A much more lazy, almost unbearably light touch drew shapes on his neck, scribbling lightly and softly to his ears and then all the way back to his collarbone, going from one side to another, over and over again.
“Coothie coothie coo, little listener!!” His loud laughter, intertwined with squeaks, yelps and guffaws due the mix between all the soft and energetic tickles, almost made the teasing disappear. Key word: Almost. “Have a tickle, tickle here!” He shook his head, trying to dislodge the fingers on his neck. “And tickle, tickle, tickle there!” Spidering on his shoulder blades made him squirm more. “Have all the tickles, tickly tickles everywhere!!”
“YOHOHOHOU WILL NOT DEFEHEHEAT ME!” Tenya’s smile was almost taking over his entire face, chuckles and giggles spilling freely from him. Yet, - he decided, - he has an important part of the plan and would not lose easily! That was the only reason why he continued firm on his position, figuratively laughing his head out, and definitely not because of how their attention and silliness made him feel happy, safe and loved.
“Of course not.” Shouta paused for a few pieces of seconds, checking his phone. “You still have five minutes left. I am sure you will agree to a defeat, eventually.”
“Nehehever!” Iida did his best to shout, quick, airy snickers floating in the air when Yamada decided to give him a break, leaving only Shouta’s torment to keep the other smiling.
“Hey, hey, hey, little listener!” Tenya knew this tune. He knew that when Uncle Hizashi used that he was planning something. His smile became wobblier and he refused to open his eyes. “Come on, don’t let me hang on here! Look at me, pleaaase?”
The boy just shook his head, eyes still firmly closed.
“Shoouuu, he doesn’t want to see the big, great, amazing surprise I have for him! That is not fair.”
“He is smart. It’s not his fault for your lack of charisma.”
“Gaaasp! You wound me! Friendship ended with Ereaserhead, now my new best friend is Tensei!”
 A pause.
“Buuuut, the vacancy is still open if maybe, just maaaybe,” A wiggly finger tickled under his chin, a snort flew in the air, “a clever teenager with a cute laughter and blue hair decides to open his eyes…”
 “Yohohou will not crahack me!”
“Please,” Poke, “Please, please, pleasepleaseplease!” Poke, poke, pokepokepoke-
“Stop!” And then he finally opened his eyes, finding a very smiley Hizashi in front of him, making a silly face. He half groaned and half giggled, the former action only due Aizawa’s tickles, of course.
“Aw, you didn’t find it funny?” The blonde crossed his arms, pretending to think about his next move. “Donut worry, then! I know something that will make you laugh!!”
And then, in a blink of an eye, he blew a gigantic raspberry on his tummy.
In the exact moment Tenya’s loud, uncontrollable, squeaky belly laughter exploded, Aizawa let go of his arms, a surprised, sharp snorts coming out as Tensei hugged him from behind, his hands being quick to attack his unprotect armpits, low muffled squeals and rumbling chuckles beginning to float in the air.
Tenya fell on his knees, hugging his stomach and tittering non stop as Yamada tenderly ruffled his hair, giving the boy’s cheeks another gentle pinch before getting his attention captured by his best friend’s tickled laughter, his wicked grin making another appearance.
“Is it already Tickle Shouta hours??” He cracked and wiggled his fingers, making a whole show of getting prepared, crackling in delight as the black haired adult laughed harder at the silliness, laying completely limp on Ingenium’s embrace, face starting to be colored by a light red, legs kicking and a hand hiding his mouth, even if the corner of his smile was still clearly visible.
And, as Iida laid on the cold floor, rarefied giggles escaping from time to time, as new laughter and teases filled the room, he thought that he actually didn’t mind that much that such foolery, silly tradition had wormed its way in their family.

al dente: cooked so it's still tough when bitten, often referring to pasta
meal: lasagne
Tom had the best luck. He just had to run into Y/N when he looked ‘horrendous’ as Harry so kindly put it. He had been tasked with getting the groceries while his best mates did the cleaning, which was very much long overdue. Not wanting his young and impressionable daughter, with a knack for repeating words she overhead, Tom brought her along. She had asked him questions on the car ride to Tesco’s. He had given her the warning he always gave her to behave, not that he needed to, she was his perfect princess, and unstrapped her from her seat.
He was given a list of things they needed for the house, most of it was nonsense, and he wouldn’t get them at all, but he figured he would humour them and get kid-friendly alternates. Setting Autumn into the trolley, he started his walk around the supermarket. Autumn hummed a tune from a show she was obsessed with and would often point out things that caught her attention. He was having a great time, listening to Autumn babble on about what happened at nursery and what Gretchen and Holly did to get in trouble, until he, quite literally, bumped into a familiar woman. Apologies spilt from his mouth before he saw who he bumped into. A familiar giggle stopped his rambling and caused him to look up, making eye contact with gorgeous glowing eyes.
“Oh, God. Y/N, what are you doing here? That was a stupid question, you’re clearly shopping, I am so sorry,” he apologised before he smiled at her. She brushed him off and smiled, her eyes moving from his face towards the small little girl who sported a cheeky smile, her honey eyes wide and laced with amusement. She thrust her tiny hand towards her and motioned for the older woman to take it.
“‘M Autumn, but daddy calls me Burrito. Who are you?” her bluntness caused a giggle to slip from Y/N’s lips and Tom to snap his head up to look at her in embarrassment. First, he bumps into her in the cereal aisle and now his three-year-old quite sassily asked her who she was. Sometimes he wished she didn’t know how to speak as well as she did.
“It’s nice to meet you, Autumn, I’m Y/N. Is this your daddy?” She asked, pointing at Tom with her thumb. Tom was never going to be ashamed of Autumn; she was his pride and joy. The apple of his eyes, the reason he lives, etc., but he silently wished his daughter said no to her question. He hadn’t gathered up the courage to ask Y/N on a date, and he didn’t want to ruin any chances because she found out he had a daughter before he could tell her. He wanted at least one date with her before dropping the bomb that he was a single father and having her ghost him.
Autumn nodded with a proud smile, her toothy smile wide as she smiled at her father. Tom’s heart swelled at the thought of his daughter being proud of him. Y/N chuckled and opened her mouth to respond before a small body barreled into her leg, holding a box of Jaffa cakes. Y/N nodded her head towards the little boy and laughed as she watched him run towards their trolley and place them in it ever so gently before he wandered the length of the aisle in search of the cereal he wanted. Y/N motioned for him to come back and grabbed ahold of his small hand.
“Luca, this is Tom and his daughter Autumn, they’re mummy’s friends, can you say hi?” she said slowly while signing it out with her hands. The small boy, who couldn’t be older than six, nodded his head before turning to his mother’s friends. Using his fingers and talking lowly, he introduced himself to the older man and his wife.
“Hi, my name is Lucas,” he signed with a smile. At that moment, Tom was thankful for briefly considering teaching his daughter sign language when she was a baby. Of course, he couldn’t do so, since he had a fish’s attention span, but he had googled phrases when he was researching it. He was able to catch the phrase and introduced himself with ease. The little boy’s eyes lit up; he wasn’t used to someone making an effort to communicate with him, except for his mother, family, and one school friend. Y/N’s heart swelled as she watched her cute student use his fingers to reply to her son. Every guy she had ever dated or considered dating had all but left when they found out she had son, and the ones who stayed, left when they found out he was deaf.
“Daddy, why is he using his fingers?” Autumn whispered. Once again mortified at his daughter’s bluntness, her father sent Y/N an apologetic smile before he turned to his daughter. He explained it to her in terms she would understand, she nodded along and turned to her newfound friend with a smile. She threw up her fingers and waved them around, much to Lucas’ confusion and the amusement of his mother. Y/N explained to her son that she was merely trying to say hello but that she didn’t know his language. Autumn, getting frustrated at not interacting with her new friend, motioned for her father to take her out of the trolley and place her on the ground. Tom set her down and watched with pride as his daughter hugged the boy.
“Uh, we should get going. It was nice to see you outside of class, Tom,” Y/N said shyly. She didn’t want to leave, but she figured that if she stayed any longer and watched Tom interact with her son, and make an effort to communicate with him with Lucas in his comfort zone, she would surely fall in love with him. And his daughter, she was so much like Tom. She was kind and welcoming; she would surely want to claim her as her own but figured that a handsome, made man like Tom, definitely had a wife he kept from the public. She knew he had a daughter, but his relationship status was never discussed on the internet. And she never spent too long on the internet unless it was to research ways to make Lucas’ life as comfortable as possible and the pros and cons of a cochlear implant as of recently.
Tom was distraught knowing she had a son, not because it was a turn off, but because it likely meant she was in a relationship. And an established one too seeing as her son was no older than six. With a sigh, he agreed and bid his goodbye, quickly getting a box of cereal and leaving the aisle with his three year old happily babbling behind him. She cleared her throat and sent him a weary smile after he stopped and looked at her.
“Sorry, it’s just, you took my trolley,” as if he couldn’t be more embarrassed. First, he shows up to the supermarket looking less than ideal with two different socks, and an old t-shirt with spit up on it from when Autumn was a baby, then he asks her what she’s doing at a grocery store like a knob, and now, he just has to take her groceries. He just couldn’t catch a break. Sheepishly, he apologised and handed her back her trolley, once again dashing away. Y/N chuckled from her spot before turning towards her son who stared at her with wide hazel eyes under his red glasses.
“Mummy, was that the cute man you told Auntie about?” Lucas signed prompting Y/N to blush, but nodded nonetheless. What kind of mother would be if she lied to her son about a small crush. She asked him what cereal he wanted, effectively changing the topic. He ran off towards the aisle and followed after the small boy, stopping when he held up a box of Frosties. She allowed him to put it in the trolley before they continued on with their shopping.
Tom had to bribe his daughter pack of Smarties for her to stop laughing at his misfortune, and a box of chocolate biscuits in order for her not to tell her Uncles. He needed to reduce the time she spent with Tuwaine and Harry, they were corrupting his daughter. Autumn sat in her car seat happily munching on her smarties while Tom drove, still reeling at the way he behaved around her, and about how he was smitten with a woman who probably had a family. Autumn still giggled from her carseat from time to time when she remembered how her acted in front of the pretty chef. He would resort to sending her playful glares and threatening to cut her tea time with her nana.
Calling for the boys to help them unload the groceries, he shuffled inside with Autumn hot on his heels. Helping out by carrying her bag of snacks, she ran towards her bedroom while calling for her uncles to help her dad. Tom rolled his eyes but chuckled. Harrison was the first one out followed by Tuwaine and Harry who all complained about helping, but did it nonetheless. Between the three man, they got the bags inside quickly and left Tom to unpack everything while they searched for Autumn, to undoubtedly wreak havoc in their home.
Harry came into the kitchen when Tom restocked their fridge and looked at his older brother with giddiness. Tom sent him a questioning glance before turning back towards the fridge causing his younger brother to throw one of Autumn’s toys at him. Tom turned around with offence laced in his eyes and flicked his brother off simultaneously rubbing the sore spot on his head.
“That was payback for hitting me on the head,” he deadpanned before walking towards him, phone open and ready, “and it was also to get your attention. She followed me back, I figured you might want to you know, do your research on her.” Tom stared at his brother incredoulsly and reached out for the phone only to stop himself. Did he really want to stalk someone, a woman at that, that he had no chance with anymore? Did he want to be as shameless as his younger brother?
Shaking his head, he softly pushed his phone away from his face before turning back to his groceries; not wanting to be tempted with the offer. Harry snorted before sitting back down and started scrolling on his phone. Tom figured that was the end of his brother’s tampering until he cleared his throat dramatically and started describing his posts to him.
“And in this one, she’s in France with a cute baby on her hip and they’re in front of the Eiffel Tower. Her caption says,” he proceeded to raise his voice a few octaves and mimicked her voice, even though they had never spoken before, “decided to spend my boy’s first birthday in the city of Love!” Tom rolled his eyes at his brothers exaggerated voice and failed to catch the way his eyes widened the more he scrolled on her page as he now placed groceries in the cupboard.
“I didn’t know she had a kid,” Harry said, Tom only ignored him, “but I think she’s single, she posted a picture of them together on his recent birthday and said that he was the only love of her life.”
Tom couldn’t help but feel better at this revelation but he couldn’t know for sure until he found someway to interject it in conversation, or until Harrison does it for him. He really needed to get his act together and talk to her without making himself look like a fool. Harry continued to scroll aimlessly before he cursed and mumbled on about how he liked a picture from two years ago. Tom laughed and left the kitchen, leaving his brother alone in his debacle. Maybe that would teach him to stop stalking people.
The next class came quickly and once again, he dragged Harrison with him. The blond had no complaints this time around, seeing as his date with the raven haired girl went well and he was going to see her once again. He pulled into the car park and noticed the familiar red car pulling into a spot close to his. Tom watched as she struggled with the supplies in her hand and with her bags and quickly jumped out after turning off the engine. Forgetting about his friend, he locked the door and rushed to offer her his help. With a grateful smile, she allowed for him to carry some of her belongings into the class. They shared pleasantries and talked, both of them ignoring what happened at Tesco’s. They would remain friends even if they couldn’t be together.
Tom settled down in his seat and pulled out his phone, his eyes widening when he saw Harrison’s very angry messages. He snorted before excusing himself and walking back towards his car, making eye contact with Harrison who flipped him off. He unlocked the door and braced himself for the inevitable hurt the blue eyed man was about to inflict on him. After a rather harsh punch and even harsher words, the two walked back into the classroom and took their spots, flushing under the weight of everyone’s eyes.
Y/N started her class after the entered the room and walked around after she passed around the recipe papers to them. Harrison and Tom looked at the sheet in confusion, she had never taught this way, she always demonstrated. The two looked around the room and watched as everyone else had started following the recipe, moving about their areas and puting things together. Their eyes widened as they read over the instructions once again. Re-reading a recipe at home after having made the food was one thing, but making food without doing it once was another. They swallowed and pushed down the feeling of doom they were both feeling.
After nearly smacking Harrison with one of the lasagne noodles and then almost getting sauce on his shoes, they worked on making the food together. Y/N had stopped by occasionally to help them out, and to put out a small grease fire, but left them to their own devices as she continued to walk around. Swallowing his pride, Harrison called for her and asked for her help which she happily gave. She demonstrated how to cut vegetables, how to grate the cheese, and even taught them a new phrase.
“Al dente; it’s how we refer to pasta when it’s hard but still cooked, which is what we want to do with the lasagne noodles,” she explained softly. Harrison paid attention to her demonstration while Tom focused on her and the way her eyes danced in delight as she explained and her tone was light when she answered any questions they had. With her help, they placed the lasagne in the oven and high fived as they finished without starting a fire or getting into a fight. They thanked her to which she nodded and left them to their devices while they waited. She had instructed the class to get ahead of the cleaning process and do so while they waited so they could leave early.
Part of Tom didn’t want to leave early, but he knew he would have to. So together, they cleaned up their area and waited for their food to finish cooking. They finished quickly and Harrison ditched him for Violet, the raven haired girl he went on a date with, leaving Tom to pass the time on his phone. A tap on his shoulder brought him out of his scrolling. He looked up and met soft eyes and a warm smile. Y/N.
“I saw Harrison leave you for Violet, figured I would keep you company,” she paused, a panicked look in her eyes, “only if that’s okay with you of course.” Tom nodded and placed his phone down, gesturing for her to take a seat beside him. She thanked him and settled down.
“Your daughter is adorable,” she commented as she watched his screen light up with a message from his mum, his phone screen on display. It was a picture of the three year old at one of his premiers, smiling her toothy smile at the photographers. Tom thanked her and agreed with a fond smile. Autumn was adorable.
“Your son is cute,” he said, causing her to smile, “you and your boyfriend must be happy.”
“Oh, no boyfriend, just me and Luca,” she informed him, “what about you? You and your partner must be ecstatic to have such a charming little girl running around.”
“If you’re referring to Harrison, I can assure you we are more than okay with seeing other people, preferably of the opposite gender,” he joked. She laughed and looked at him intently.
“So, there’s no Missus?” she inquired, Tom shook his head. She smiled at his response and opened her mouth to reply before the sound of alarms going off interrupted her. She stood up and instructed everyone to take their dishes out of the oven and check their food, making sure the noodles were soft and easy to cut into. She went around offering everyone the lid to the containers the lasagne was in and helped those who needed, close them.
Tom handed their container and the keys to the car to Harrison rather roughly and pushed him out the door before walking towards Y/N and clearing his throat, fiddling with his fingers. She sent him a questioning look and rose an eyebrow, waiting for him to talk.
“Uh, I just wanted to invite you and Lucas to Autumn’s birthday,” no he didn’t, he was fully intending on asking her on a date, “it’s on Saturday. It’s okay if you can’t or simply don’t want to but I think-”
“We would love to come. Here, you can text me the address, and Luca and I will be there. How old is she turning?” She asked and handed him her phone. He typed in his phone number and smiled at the picture she had set her wallpaper as. It was of her and Lucas, smiling at the camera. Lucas had cake frosting smeared on his face and on his hands which he was placing on her cheek.
“Four,” she didn’t turn four for another month. Now he had to throw together a quick birthday party and lie to his daughter. All because he couldn’t ask the pretty chef out on a date.
“We’ll be there,” she said, Tom nodded and walked out of the room slowly, until she called his name, “text me. It doesn’t have to be about the party.” She winked and Tom blushed.
He walked towards the car with a spring in his step and his head in the clouds. He didn’t ask her on a date, but he got her number and she told him to text her. That was better than nothing. Now all he needed to do was throw an impromptu birthday party for his daughter.
