It´s been..how many years? He couldn´t remember, too long.

Even then, when his eyes l landed on your figure as you walked in, he didn´t have a single doubt in his bones that it was you. Fury ran through his veins. Why are you here? You should be somewhere safe, and Dauntless is anything but.

And yet....when his eyes roamed over you, he immediately percieved the way you changed and somehow remained the same all together. You had gotten taller, the flimsy figure he remembered was long replaced by strong toned muscles, and your face...all the baby fat he used to teasingly pinch was long gone. You really had matured.

His heart swelled with overwhelming emotions. And when your eyes locked and recognition swirled in your irises, he wanted nothing more than to pull you into a bone crushing hug. But...for the sake of his reputation and image...not to mention it would be considered inappropriate, he refrained from doing so. Instead he bit down hard on the inside of his cheeks to keep any sort of vulnerable emotion from unwantedly spilling out.

Time couldn´t go by any slower as Eric and Foru went through the usual procedure. Introduce themselves, the rules, the compound, etc. etc. Nothing Four could possibly care about more than having a moment alone with you. And he was truly close to giving up for the day when at last, he spotted you lagging behind from your new group during lunch break. Your back was turned to him, but your head was looking side to side, as if you were looking for something...someone.

His body reacted before his mind did, his steps quickening their pace until he was close enough to reach you. His rough, calloused hand was gentle and warm as it circled around your bicep. Your body instinctively whirled around, your wide eyes looking up into his. In a flash, your tense body relaxed, and like muscle memory, your hands closed around his torso. Four didn´t take a second longer to reciprocate the affectionate hug, his own strong arms wrapping around your back. His lips pressed a kiss to the top of your head, his skin tickled by your soft hair.

"I missed you y/n"

His low soft voice broke the comfortable silence that had been hanging in the air. With a soft sigh, you pulled back just enough so you could take a good look at his face. That same old cheeky grin he fondly remembered appeared on your lips.

"I missed you too Tobias"

His gaze softened at the sound of his name. It´s been so long since he heard his name, his real name. And the sound of it coming from your lips, like an old childhood memory, made his mind and soul relax.

Then, his gaze became stern and serious, like when he´d scold you for making a stupid mistake. He placed firm hands on your shoulders and lowered down just enough that he was face to face with you.

"Listen to me, you have to make it past the training and become a full member of Dauntless. Now that you´re here I can´t risk loosing you again"

His voice held the tone of a promise, and you simply nodded firmly, determination flowing through your veins.

He nodded as well, his firm grip slowly releasing from your shoulders.

"Good, I promise to train you as best as possible"

With one final nod, you both headed your own seperate ways, the anticipation of the promise hanging in the air and filling you both with new found adrenaline and willpower.

Four and Five

Based on this request: "platonic Four x fem reader. She and Four have been best friends since they were kids. Her mother died when she was a kid and her father became an abusive alcoholic. She and Four chose Dauntless. Tobias had four fears and reader had five. Her fears are spiders, as she was bitten by one before her mother died, her father, confined spaces, dying, and losing Four."

At one point, it was the two of you and no one else.

Abnegation, try as it might, is not a place for great community. It is better to suffer in silence than waste breath that could have been used to save those in need on something as mundane as parlor conversation. The members of your gray-robed faction have people whose presence they enjoy and people whose presence they pride themselves on withstanding, but friends are rare. They are an excess, and here, that is not tolerated.

That is not to say that Abnegation is made of enemies, only, much like the rest of it, a collection of neutral stances. It would be unkind to like any one person more than the other if they were not your family or your lover. That is the way it has always been, and likely the way it will always be. Abnegation is not well suited for change.

It should be a sign, then, that the two people who chafed the most against this rule would end up leaving. Abnegation was not meant for you, nor the boy who was once known as Tobias Eaton. If the two of you ever found each other at all, it is only because you were each so vastly different from everyone else around you that it would be impossible for your paths not to cross.

You contemplated running from an early age. It is heartbreaking to think about how easy it would be. You could grab a few things like clothes and food and just take off in any direction. Maybe you wouldn’t bring anything at all. You could just go, push yourself faster and faster until your old life was nothing but dust. The idea is as tempting as it is impossible.

After all, this life was not meant to be easy. Without the factions, you have nothing. Although the open streets called your name a thousand times, you could not answer, not until the Choosing Ceremony.

That’s why you met Tobias for the first time, actually. You were both looking for something to distract you from the way that life was. Instead of an escape, you found each other, though in all honesty your meeting was just as good. Without Tobias, you wouldn’t have made it through your early days in Abnegation. That much you can say with certainty.

You didn’t know that you were ever the same after meeting him. Running into Tobias was an accident, pure and simple, but it was the best accident of your life. Poets have been writing centuries’ worth of sonnets over the thrill of finding your one true love, but you think they’ve got it wrong. Finding the person who will become your best friend is a thousand times better than that.

Once you had Tobias on your side, you could do anything. Both of you had houses you’d rather avoid: mothers gone, fathers twisted. Your home was with Tobias, it would be from the moment you met him. When things got bad, the two of you could meet up somewhere out of the watchful eye of the faction and be safe. Sometimes you would talk or fix up each other’s wounds or just sit there in silence, content in the knowledge that at one point it would be better.

You didn’t know what faction you would choose at first. That you would transfer was unquestionable– neither of you were meant for this life, not in the slightest. The patronizing self sacrifices gnawed at you like rats to a bone. Nothing fit, nothing made sense. Neither of you understood why until you took your aptitude tests and both came back with results best kept buried.

Both of you were Divergent. Both. It was fitting somehow, like of course the two Divergents in all of Abnegation would manage to find each other some way or another, but it also meant that the danger increased twofold. You weren’t just keeping your secret anymore, you were keeping Tobias’ secret as well.

It meant that you were going to have to transfer, and transfer well. You and Tobias spent many long days working methodically through each option in front of you. Remaining in Abnegation was unthinkable, you had to escape your fathers in some way, and damning yourself to stay here forever would kill you just as surely as discovery.

Candor was too liberal with their truth serum, they’d ask you one question about things you’d like to keep hidden and you’d be exposed on the first day. Erudite is too sharp, they’d figure you out in moments. Plus, their leader, Jeanine Matthews, was making waves in Abnegation for her radical tendencies. Staying away from her would probably be best.

Amity was always an option, but only as a last resort. Neither you nor Four were ever truly suited for peace. The thought of laying down your guard and just existing in a perennial state of bliss was so unlike you it was almost funny. The two of you will be running for the rest of your lives, you might as well find a faction where that’s normal behavior.

That left one faction, the most dangerous faction. Dauntless. At first, Dauntless was out of the question. If there’s anywhere you could be killed in the blink of an eye were someone to find out about your Divergence, it would be Dauntless. Then again, Dauntless is also the only place where you could kill someone who figured you out. You could be a predator, not just prey. It’s the only faction that would give you the ability to fight back.

Thus your choice was made at last. You and Four debated for quite some time, but at the end your minds were made up. Like it or not, Dauntless is your only chance at survival. The night before the Choosing Ceremony, the two of you met up one last time and promised to make it out together. Your last hours in Abnegation were about to come to a close, and then you’d be free, free forever. You couldn’t be happier at the thought of it.

Some part of you was terrified that it was never going to work out. Abnegation had a way of sucking your spirits dry, of making you think that there would never be anything more to life than that endless stretch of nothingness. Dauntless was stunned by how much you and Tobias thirsted for blood from the very first day of initiation, but neither of you were taken aback. If you could light the world ablaze, why wouldn’t you? The rush of adrenaline alone was more than you had ever felt in your life.

Slicing open your palm the day of your Choosing Ceremony didn’t feel like pain, it came off more as freedom. Abnegation was shaken when not one but two of its children switched to Dauntless. All of the factions were amazed, for that matter, but they forgot soon enough. You and Tobias embraced the Dauntless lifestyle wholeheartedly, and even after a few days it was impossible that the two of you could have ever been from anywhere but Dauntless.

It just worked, that’s all. You and Tobias threw each other into your new life with the sort of reckless abandon that guarantees you a spot in the top ranks. You showed up to each day’s training sessions early, you stayed late. Anything to get ahead. This was your chance to make a new name for yourself, and so you did.

Quite literally, as it turns out. You didn’t much like the idea of the fear landscapes, but once you were on the Dauntless track, it’s not like you could turn back. You made it through the first stage of initiation with flying colors, you and Tobias in slots one and two in the rankings, but the second stage worried you more than the first. You can take a punch and deal out your fair share of them, but letting anyone into your head is a decided threat.

After all, what if whoever was in charge of your fear landscape did some looking and figured out that you’ve been keeping a pretty big secret? Neither you nor Tobias can afford to be revealed as Divergents. Not here, not anywhere. The only option, then, was to give the faction something else to talk about.

See, the benefit of being a free-thinking Divergent is that you tend to do pretty damn well in mental challenges like the fear landscape. It just isn’t real to you, no more than a particularly threatening daydream. Even when you’re in the thick of things in the simulations, you know that it isn’t real. That lets you keep your head, which is what Dauntless likes to see the most.

You know what people said when the news of your fear landscape first hit the faction. It seemed impossible– five fears in a place where people usually had ten or fifteen? Who were you to shake at so little?

What your fears lack in quantity, though, they make up for them in quality. You see the same five things every time you enter your fear landscape, and although they never change, they never seem to grow less intimidating no matter how many times you see them.

The first is a swarm of spiders, the low light glistening over their beady eyes and shining bodies. You were bitten by a spider a few months before your mother died. You were so young that you couldn’t help but connect the two events in your mind. Is it possible that the punishment of you surviving a dangerous bite was your mother’s death? Perhaps she paid the price you never did. The fear was cemented as truth in your head ever since you were a kid, and it refuses to leave you still.

The second is your father. He was as heavy in his drinking as he was in his punches. You hate him for what he did to you, what he still does to you. You’ll never be able to shake those memories, no matter how hard you try. The third fear goes along with your father as well. Small spaces; he used to lock you up in a dark closet when he was sick of your sobbing. You can’t help the claustrophobia any more than you can help your hatred of your father's favorite brand of liquor.

The fourth fear is dying, although that one’s the most common here. After all you’ve been through, the thought of biting it too early makes you furious. You have lived through more than any kid deserves, and you will not let yourself take your last breath until you’ve done all that you could and more to give yourself a better life.

The last fear is personal: not just your death, but Tobias’ as well. He has been the one person to stand behind you since you were a kid, your only ally, your closest friend. Losing Tobias would be the end of you, of that you are certain. Your final fear is where your head gets creative, thinking up scenario after scenario in which Tobias dies before your very eyes. No matter what, you can never do anything to save him, and it is always your fault.

Despite the difficulty of the fears, you make it through your landscape every time. Your time, already golden, improves with every go. You were in a good position coming out of the first stage of initiation, but with your success in the fear landscape, a place in the top rankings is all but guaranteed.

A rebranding was the only possible thing to follow. It’s one thing to fear the former Abnegation kids, or Tobias and Y/N, but say the names Four and Five and even the faction leaders are getting nervous. You only have five fears. Tobias only has four. You looked at each other across crowds of impressed students and decided to burn the past once and for all. Y/N is dead, if she was ever alive in the first place.

All that’s left is what you’ve made of yourself here. The name change was the last thing you needed to abandon, and now you’re something new, something better. Y/N was a girl who cowered in the shadows of Abnegation, who cursed her mother’s ghost and feared her father’s punches. Five is the sort of woman who would rather kill you than flinch.

The same thing goes for what used to be Tobias. You can see the shreds of the past leaving him in a rush, every bit of trauma and hurt shrugged off like an outgrown coat. He took on the name Four and scares the rest of the faction just as much as you do. You wouldn’t know he thinks about the past at all were it not for the reminders inked into his skin.

You’re the only one who’s seen Four’s tattoos, although you hope you won’t be the only one forever. Four is your closest friend, your brother, but you want him to be happy outside of his endless cycle of revenge and punishment on those who’ve hurt him. Some day in the future, perhaps some day that won’t come for quite some time, Four will find someone to make him heal. You’ll be waiting for that day with great joy.

In fact, about a year or two later, you think you might have stumbled upon that very girl. You and Four graduated with the top two rankings, and took similar jobs in the intelligence division of Dauntless. You work together training initiates, always on the lookout for people like you who might need someone watching their back. Divergents have to stick by each other.

That’s where Four found Tris, and you couldn’t be happier about it. Four needs someone to make him smile, to think about a future in which he could finally lay down his weapons. Neither of you have been able to do that for quite some time, but you think Four deserves it.

Until that day comes, the two of you will keep on fighting your wars, staying alive as best you can. This city is a dangerous place, Dauntless itself the worst of it. That being said, you have a feeling that both of you will do just fine. Anyone in your faction could tell you that much. Four and Five have a way of making it out alive. You can only hope that Six will follow suit.

Since Initiation

Eric Coulter x fem!reader

Plot: An argument between Eric and you led to a revelation.

a/n: So, this is my first time writing something for Eric. I just wrote it the last 4 hours instead of cleaning my room, so feel free to point out mistakes, English isn´t my first language and I struggle a bit writing in it.

You were walking through the halls of Dauntless. The few people you passed cleared a path as soon as they saw your expression. You were fuming, a grim expression on your face and a determination in your eyes so that everyone pitied the person who was responsible for your bad mood.

As you climbed the stairs to the upper floors you met less people the higher you went. Arriving in the grey hallway on the highest floor you walked past the few doors you knew all to well. Your place was just a floor lower, being the one responsible for coordinating all Dauntless soldiers who were stationed out of the compound and their needs. You were one step under the leaders of the faction.

You stopped at one metal door at the end of the hallway, just before a set of doors to the elevator. You banged against the metal, not caring about the pain shooting through your knuckles because of the force.

You heard his heavy steps before he opened the door. The second the door opened you pushed it open and let your fist collide with his jaw. He didn´t saw it coming and had no possibility to block the punch. You felt the skin on your knuckles opening and the familiar burning sensation.

“What the fuck!” He screamed in pain. You smashed the door back in its place, so nobody would at least see the two of you in this state. His piercing blue eyes narrowed at you, his prominent scowl on his face as he clutches his left side with one hand. “What was that for?” He exclaimed angrily, louder than his normal voice but not as loud as when he would shout at the initiates.

“You really want me to say it?” You asked incredulously. Scoffing you mustered him. He was only in a loose pair of joggers, he must´ve just woken up before you came, because his hair was still disheveled.

“It´s 8 in the morning and you just punched me in the face. Yes, I want an explanation” he said. His stare would´ve made everyone running from him. Normally you would be cautious with the look he was giving you, but you were too enraged to care, nothing he did would scare you in your current state. “You are such a pumped-up asshole Eric, you know that?” You turned, walking more in the room. “You walk on thin ice, Y/N.” Eric growled. You huffed out a laugh. You turned back to him, shooting him a glare.

“Why should I care, you certainly don´t care about anything other than yourself.” You spit out in a bitter tone. His posture was tense, the muscles in his jaw twitching with contained anger. “What is up with you? You behave like a child.” “You are such an asshole!” “You already said that.” “What about dick? Did I call you a dick already?” “I don´t even know what you are talking about!” “I know about her!” You screamed.

He seemed taken aback for a second. Shock overcoming his features and vanishing as fast as it came. He wore a cold expression. “And?” He asked calmly. Your eyes widened. You thought he would at least try to deny it, but nothing came out of him as you just stared at him. “Are you serious?” You asked incredulous. “I slept with her, and I slept with other women.” It felt like he just punched you in the chest. Then he started laughing. “What? You didn´t really think that I stopped just because we spent a few nights together?”

You met his eyes. They were cold. You felt like crying. When Four showed you the security tape of the last evening this morning you were seeing red. You thought there was something more between you and Eric.

Yes, the first time with Eric was not the problem. You knew he didn´t commit to other people. You two were able to work together without feeling the urge to punch each other. You were one of the only people Eric could stand, and you didn´t fear the cruel leader like others did. You became friends, and the first time it happened was with a lot of alcohol in both of your blood.

You didn´t see more in it then a one-time thing, no strings attached, even when you wanted it to be more. But when you two started to spend even more time together outside of work then you usually did and the nightly activities started to happen again and again, you hoped he had committed to you. You hoped he would feel the same as you, even when you never talked about what you were.

You shook your head. “Why?” you asked, sounding broken even to your own ears. “It is called fun, Y/N, nothing more. The people in Dauntless do it all the time. Don´t tell me you didn´t do the same, I saw enough men drooling over you in the bars.” You just shook your head, feeling the tears building in your eyes. Even though Dauntless is very sexually active, you never were that freely looking for flings. Yes, sometimes when you needed it, but that was rare, and definitely not since you and Eric were even closer than before.

He was looking at you with a hard glare, expecting you to confirm his statement. You pushed the forming lump in your throat down, looking him straight in the eyes and trying to sound as impassive as possible. “My bad for assuming.” You walked out of the door before Eric could fully register your statement or your action.

You run the hallway and the stairs down. You went to the other part of Dauntless where the members had their quarters. By the time you knocked at Four´s door the tears were streaming freely down your cheeks. When he opened the door, he promptly let you in, engulfing you in a hug as soon as the door was closed. You two were friends since initiation. You transferred with him from Abnegation, but only bonding during the training in Dauntless since you didn´t really met in Abnegation.

He could imagine what happened. He let you stay on his couch, just being in his company made you feel so much safer than in your own place. He had a few days no training with the initiates due to special training for them from a different trainer. In these days he was as much by your side as possible, trying to cheer you up and simultaneously preparing the last few weeks of training in the first stage. He was worried since you didn´t talk much and didn´t move more than necessary from the couch. Your eyes lost the glow they held since he knew you.

When he came back from the first day he had to train the initiates again you were still laying on his couch, a blanket thrown over your form and your stare, void of any emotions, directed on his ceiling.

He sighed, knowing you would hate him for it. “I´m going to the fence.” He said, putting his things on the table. No reaction from you. “Have to show the initiates what their future job might be.” He stowed away a weapon he took with him to training. When he walked to the kitchen and began rummaging, he let the bomb drop. “I told Max you would accompany me, since you are responsible for the coordination of the soldiers.”

“What?” He cringed at the sound of your voice. It was raw because of the lack of use. “He accepted immediately. He even gave me a tablet with work that you need to do when we are there.” He heard your footsteps coming closer. When he looked up from the food he was making, he saw you scowling at him. “Why?” He knew what you meant. “You are laying on my couch for a week now, you need to start working again, and what is even more important, living. And what is better than a trip out of the compound for a night?”

You weren´t convinced. You knew when Four would take the initiates, Eric would be there too, as would Lauren with the Dauntless born. “I don´t get out of this, do I?” You asked, already knowing the answer. “No, Max said he will personally drag you there if you don´t go.” You huffed, leaving Four alone to grab fresh clothes from him to shower.

Four smiled to himself when he heard the shower. First shower since you knocked at his door. You emerged after half an hour, wearing a hoody and pants from him, your clothes tossed in the bin. You sat down, eating the full meal he dished you up and sat at his other table, beginning to work on the tablet he brought with him.

The next morning you were in your tactical gear before he was even out of bed. You were grateful that the two of you had clothes of the other stored in your apartments. It was easier that way.

You walked with Four to the train, meeting all initiates and Lauren there. “Good that you two show up. You heard anything from Eric?” Lauren asked. “He should come any minute now, Max wanted him to accompany us.” Four explained. You just looked grim, looking over the initiates of this year. All of them looked tired, most staying for themselves, only a few talking among them.

You quietly heard the train rattling in the distance, knowing it wasn´t long before you needed to jump on it. You hoped Eric would miss the train, everything would be way easier without him. To your disappointment he showed up, asking the initiates why they didn´t started running already as the first centimeter of the train was past the first one.

You started running, leaping onto the first pair of doors and pushing the button so they would open. You swing yourself into the train, Four and Lauren following swiftly. The train filled with initiates and in the midst was Eric, who walked to the three of you.

When he came to a stop next to the three of you, he didn´t acknowledge you. “So, what is the plan of this surprise field trip?” He growled at Four. He was as pleased as you felt. “Calm down, we had to take them to the fence sooner or later, it´s part of training and you know that.”

“Whatever”, he grunted out and walked to the wall, eyeing the initiates like a hawk. When you were half the way to the fence and the initiates started to talk more, Four stepped forward and announced your presence.

“This is Y/N L/N, she is the coordinator of every dauntless soldier outside of the compound. You have to guard the fence? She tells you to do it. You´re looking over the factionless? She is the one who put you there. So, respect her as if she is one of your leaders.” You stepped forward. A few boys smirking at your look. You weren´t the biggest or strongest person, but you were the third best initiate after Four and Eric, earning your spot in the faction a few of them will never call home because of the new cutting rule.

“As Four already told you am I the one responsible for tactical coordination of our troops outside of our faction. It involves coordination of the troops and coordination of the things you need to do your job. I will tell you what the job of guarding the fence means, and what you have to know about the work that is behind a well trained and equipped soldier on the fence.”

On the train you explained your position in Dauntless, what your job contained. As you jumped out of the train and began marching to the fence you explained the first things to know about coordinating these soldiers. At the fence you explained the work they had to do before standing there. When you finished you let a few guards and Four explain the rest while you did the job Max told you to do.

When the sun started to set you had to set up a camp in front of the fence. There wasn´t enough room for all of you inside, so you had to stay out. While eating the initiates were eager to talk to each other, a few conversing with you and asking you more questions to your job. It was all fine until they started to become personal.

“Did you choose your position?” A girl named Tris asked. She was hesitant to ask you something more personal. You nodded, finishing your meal. “Yeah, I was able to choose my position. They offered me the job and I jumped at the opportunity.” “Were there other initiates that got offered jobs like yours?” Al asked. You nodded. “There was one offer of leadership, the next and only high ranking position was mine.” “Weren´t you interested at leadership?” A Dauntless born asked. You shook your head. “They offered the initiates ranked above me and one accepted, I wasn´t given the opportunity.” “So you would´ve taken the job if offered?” You nodded. “Of course, what greater way is there to lead your faction and bring out the best of it.” “What were you ranked?” Molly, if you remembered correctly, asked you.

You had a little crowd of initiates around you. “Third.” That earned you a small murmur through them, hearing the respect. “Wait, you were in the same year as Eric and Four?” Will asked, being the first to conclude the information you revealed in your statements. You nodded again. “Yes.” The next statement let you freeze. “You ever had sex with one of them?”

You stared at the brown haired boy. His name was Peter, Four told you about him, being one of the more mouthier initiates and full of his ego. Before you even had the chance to say anything you heard a growl from behind Peter. “You ever disrespect your superior again and I let you hang over the chasm with only one hand.” Peter´s skin looked sickly pale, frozen to the spot. “Understood?” A quick nod. “Now leave. All of you.” The initiates scrambled away as fast as possible, leaving you and Eric alone.

You stood up, wanting to go to Four, but Eric grabbed your arm. You tried to yank your arm out of his grip, but he only tightened his hold. “Let me go.” You growled, looking him in his blue eyes for the first time since your argument. “We need to talk.” He said, pulling you closer to him. “You already said all you needed to say.” You hissed. “I don´t want to hear anything from you, Eric. I don´t care, just like you.” You freed yourself with a final push, walking away from the fuming leader.

“You don´t know that.” He exclaimed. You huffed. “Yes, I do. You made it clear the last time.” You heard him following you. “I don´t understand why you are such a bitch about this.”

You stopped abruptly and turned around, your hand smacking his cheek with a bruising force. Eric didn´t expected the hit, just like the first time, cursing himself for your strength. You turned and started walking again. He followed you, ignoring the burning on his cheek.

He grabbed your arm again and turned you around. Your front collided with his, as he now had a hold of both your arms. “Can you just stop hitting me?” He hissed. He felt the hatred emanating from you. “Then leave me alone.” You hissed back, glaring daggers at him. “No, I want to understand it.” “What don´t you understand?” “Why were you so angry?” You huffed, earning a frown from Eric.

“You know exactly why.” You said bitter. His blue eyes searched yours, his piercing illuminated by the moon. “That doesn´t explain your last sentence.” You looked at him. He wouldn´t understand. He would never return your feelings. “Let me go.” You said blankly. You saw his eyes fill with anger. “No” he said forcefully. “Let me go Eric.” You repeated louder this time. “I said no.” He countered. “Eric!” you nearly shouted. “No!” he barked back. “Why?” You exclaimed angrily. Why would he rip your heart out again?

“Just tell me!” “Because you never commit! And I was stupid to think you would change for me!” You literally screamed in his face. “I never committed to anyone because all I ever wanted was you!” He shouted right back at you.

You froze, your eyes wide as plates from shock. He seemed to realize what he said, as his eyes widened too. You two just stared at each other, frozen on the spot. After a few moments you broke the silence. “But, why? Why would you sleep with other women when we were that close?” You asked, your voice broken. You saw him gulp, averting his eyes and letting you go. That wasn´t the Eric you knew. He was never afraid. This wasn´t the fearsome leader, this was the boy from initiation that just saw his biggest fear.

After a few seconds he finally opened his mouth. “I liked you since initiation. You seemed to be the only one that could hold up with me. I wanted you, but I never wanted to destroy our friendship. When the first time happened and you were gone the next morning I was hurt. And when we grew even closer and we had sex again I knew you were it for me. I just don´t know why you would want me. I´m not nice and often very cruel and I like it. I´m a perfect soldier, but not a good person. I couldn´t see a future with us together, because you are so much more perfect than I am. I wanted to spare me the pain of you leaving me when you realize you´re too good for me.”

You were shocked. You choked back a sob. You saw his blue eyes land on you again. You were so angry and hurt. “You are such an idiot.” You exclaimed. He expected another punch, not you hurling yourself at him, hugging him. He hugged you back after a second, not really sure of how to act with affection. He buried his nose in your neck, inhaling your comforting scent. He had to admit, no one was as comforting as you.

You loosened your hold on him, and when he looked at you, you smashed your lips on his. The kiss was messy, full of emotion. Of anger, pain and passion. When you drew back to get air, you whispered something against his lips. “I love you, you asshole. Never doubt that again or do something that stupid or I´ll kill you myself.” He smirked. “That´s a threat?” You hated his cockiness. “A promise.” You kissed him again. His lips were warm against yours. You loved every second of it because you were so deep in love with this man, it was crazy.

“You two finished or should I get a crowbar?” You turned to a smirking Four. Eric was glaring at him, the two hating each other since initiation. “Fuck off.” Eric growled. You let your hand wander over his scalp, a smile on your face. You loved how his scowl morphed into a blissed expression.

“One more minute?” You asked, not looking at your friend, who surely assumed something like this would happen. He would get an earful from you back at the compound. You only had eyes for the handsome Dauntless leader in your arms. Eric looked at you, a soft glimmer in his eyes.

“Just please, don´t fuck in our tent. Or I´ll have to kill both of you.” “No promise.” Eric replied while smirking your way. You grinned to. His lips found yours and you just heard the faint muttering of Four as he left. “What have I done?”

Divergent Gift Exchange - 2020

I’ve been trying to get myself organized to return to running some Divergent fandom events! Especially with the great people in Bee’s Discord Server (plug, plug, plug), it seemed a shame that there haven’t been any Divergent events lately. So, here I am with a non-ship-specific exchange! I thought about presenting this as a survey, but the more that I tried to word things as questions the more that I realized that I wanted just general feedback on a proposed setup. So see below for the proposed structure.

Timeline (REVISED)

September 2020 - Planning, feedback on structure September 21- October 5 - Tagset nominations* October 5-18 - Signups October 21 - Assignments go out November 16-20 - Check in! Dec 6 - Assignments Due Dec 14 - Collection opens for reading (anonymous) Dec 26 - Author reveals

*Tagset will be open for additions as well throughout sign-ups so that no ship or character is left behind!!

My target for this would be to give sufficient time for writing (there are a lot of events around December), for any pinch hits, and for this to not be due too close to the actual holidays when people are surely busy!

Requirements

500 word minimum

Complete by assignment due date (no placeholders)

Does not include requester Do Not Wants (DNWs)

Sign-ups

Sign-ups will include two parts- requests and offers.

Requests must include at minimum one (1) non-romantic request. This means you’re asking for a fic about just one character, two characters with a platonic relationship, or multiple platonic relationships. Please include any optional prompts, your likes, Opt-ins, and your DNWs in each request. Example:

Natalie Prior & Tris Prior Prompt/Likes: Bonding after Tris realizes that her mother was Dauntless. DNW: Natalie to die during the Abnegation attack

Requests can include additional requests (up to 3) that are either romantic or non-romantic. Please include any optional prompts, your likes, Opt-ins, and your DNWs in each request. Example:

Four | Tobias Eaton/Tris Prior Prompt/Likes: Tris helping Four with one of his fears. OK with smut, as long as it is consensual DNW: Non/Dub-con, BDSM or similar kink

If no match can be made to your offer, the moderator will reach out to the email associated with your AO3 profile if possible. The prompts/likes and DNWs cannot be used to box your author into writing something extremely specific. Example:

Peter/Christina Prompt/Likes: Hooking up throughout Initiation, Christina feeling embarrassed about their relationship. Smut please!! DNW: Relationship without smut, Peter/Christina being in a public relationship

Opt-ins are aspects that you are open to, but are not required. Opt-ins are also not assumed to be OK by authors unless stated.

Matching

Matching will be done with OR matching -- your offer will be matched to a character or a ship included in someone’s request. I am fairly confident that by including a non-romantic request with each sign-up, matching should leave everyone knowing that they will be able to create something their reader will enjoy.

Any opt-ins (such as smut) are not requirements. The prompts/likes and DNWs cannot be used to box your author into writing something extremely specific.

Any requests which cannot be matched to an offer will result in the moderator reaching out to the requester and giving time for them to add to or change their sign-up. If by Oct 21 there are still no matching offers, the request will go to the pinch-hit list.

Defaulting/Pinch Hits

If you cannot complete your assignment, please notify the moderator. All incomplete assignments will be automatically defaulted on Dec 7th and sent out for pinch hitting.

If you are interested in volunteering as a potential pinch hitter (no requirement), please leave a note in your offer. Pinch hitters may also be solicited from the wider community (Dreamwidth, Tumblr, etc).
