Behind the Cold Door: The Walk-In Cooler as Food Service’s Emotional Sanctuary
Absolutely! In the world of food service, the walk-in cooler is more than just a storage space—it’s an unofficial sanctuary where pressures simmer down and raw emotions often bubble up. It’s the behind-the-scenes confessional where stainless steel walls have absorbed more than just the cold; they’ve witnessed the spectrum of human emotions from exasperation to moments of unexpected…

Hello lovelies.
I’m currently going through a near complete rebuild of my practice right now. Currently, i’m doing this for the benefit of my practice and mental health, and i’m proud of the steps i’m taking! however, i wanted to share this with you all.
I’ve never been particularly good at keeping my altars clean. Whether it was one for my ancestors, my deities, or myself. This made me feel guilty, and that guilt made me sink deeper into poor mental health. Eventually, there will be times where I not only forget to take care of the altars, but I also forget to give offerings, clean the space I live in, etc.
This piles for me. But something I was told, that I remember, and that I want to share with you is that it’s ok to fall in and out of your practice.
The Gods are patient. You don’t need to give daily or weekly offerings if that’s unmanageable for you. You don’t need to devote every waking moment to your deities.
They want you to take care of yourself first and foremost. Then you can take care of acts for them.
So, I cleaned my altar for the first time in months and I reorganized it. And i hope this blog inspires you to do the same, or at least reminds you that it’s ok to not be ok sometimes ❤️ remember that your practice is YOURS. no one else’s. personalize it, mold it, make it accessible and enjoyable for YOU.
stay safe!

“If I were a mother I would be damned if my child took advice from you,”
That stung me when I initially read that.
Throughout my rocky healing journey, I’ve learned that I have to target my teenage self in order to begin healing what was broken. My teenage self was physically and emotionally abandoned. This manifested itself into self abandonment, toxic traits and irresponsible choices.
TTS (teenTOOspoiled) is not only meant for teens. It is a safe space for adults to discuss what we wish we knew as a teen. Kitchen table talk; the adults are talking. And we are inviting nearby teenagers to listen and ask questions.
As a teenager, I wish I knew how to address my problems and emotions instead of distracting myself with work, boys or burying my feelings and responsibilities. I wish I began learning certain skills sooner such as languages or techniques to protect myself from a mental health crisis.
I WISH I KNEW…
Self reliance
Personal and business finance
The dangers of casual xes
Avoidance is a trauma response (dodging the bill collector, for example).
Can I be honest? I HATE TALKING ABOUT MY SH !!!
I was raised in a black household that taught me to keep people out my business. In addition, my family dismissed mental illness overall therefore so did I. I feel very uncomfortable talking about something so personal, to strangers.
But. I remember coming across an article that made my heart drop:
Black Girls Are Experiencing Record Rates of Self Injury & Death by Scide
Don’t skip it. Read it, it’s short.
I owe my audience transparency. Especially those who are 13-20, my teenagers.
My ask and messages are open, therefore I feel as if my audience should know exactly who they’re asking advice from.
I do not (always) give advice because I’m doing/have done better. Most times I give advice because I’ve struggled through it and learned the harsh lessons already.
Especially when it comes to dating. Another thing that I want my teenage audience to know: I was xes trafficked at the age of 14 and stayed in the SW industry until I was 21. My advice comes from picking the brains of my peers (other SWers), clients, miscellaneous staff (assistants, for example) and diligent observation.
They ask me what I do and who I do it for. I do this all for my teenage self. I survived by the grace of my spirit team and my smarts. Both street and books smarts. Another form of “code switching”.
I am signing off with inviting my teenager viewers to tell an adult about following TTS. Follow us on IG @teentoospoiled if you don’t want to expose your Tumblr account lol. It takes a village and adults shouldn’t be talking to children (teens) without the approval or supervision of an adult.
Tell your parents, your big sister or older friend. Tell them about my SH. Tell them about @bootobeneficiary . Question them about their thoughts on celibacy. Ask them if they’re comfortable with you following me. Always check in with them before following any advice of mine, unless it’s advice on how to protect yourself from them.
Practice transparency, as I am practicing with you.

Lemon Peppermint Tea 🍋🌱
Tumblr media
This is a recipe for a cold infusion tea for mental clarity. 💕
As someone who struggles with extreme brain fog drinking this in the mornings helps me shake the fog for at least a little while.
Ingredients
🍋 Desired amount of cold water (can use sun water for energy)
🌱 2-3 or even 4 peppermint tea bags (I like mine stronger) (mental clarity)
🍋 Lemon juice to taste (energy)
🌱 Sugar (opt) (sweetness, self love)
Directions
🍋 Place sun water (or regular water) into whatever cup or glass you want.
🌱 Add in the tea bags, lemon juice, and sugar if you want
🍋 Cover with lid or tin foil or plastic wrap (whatever you have really) and place either in the sun for a few hours to infuse or in the fridge overnight to drink in the morning.
(You can place energizing and clarifying crystals around your cup or glass if in a safe space to do so)

some kitchen & cooking tips that helped me a lot lately!
I've always had the hardest heckin time with cooking and kitchen management. From deciding what to have as a meal to grocery shopping to actually cooking, every step of it was a source of stress, guilt and many other bad feelings. I was confused and disheartened and I felt so alone because I seemed to have the hardest time with something other people did so easily and casually.
After I came to terms with my neurospicyness, my wife introduced me to a facebook group called Executive Dysfunction Meals and it quite literally changed my life. Learning that I was not alone in this very specific struggles was so darn validating, and from there on I started learning and coming up with strategies to make my life in the kitchen bearable, and even fun (shocking, I know!).
I'm very passionate about paying forward and spreading help and information, so I'm gonna start typing down the strategies and tips that have helped me the most so far. I hope it may be of help to someone out there!
(Please note I am not a professional and I'm not claiming to know the best way to do anything, these are all just my personal experience.~)
Optimize your space (specifically for you): You know how fridges usually have a big drawer type of space specially for veggies? I used to put my veggies and greens there, but then my brain would magically Out-Of-Sight-Out-Of-Mind them away. Countless times I'd open the drawer up, weeks later, just to find rotten veggies and liquified greens. Then punish myself with guilt and anger... Until at some point we decided that enough was enough, that simply wasn't working out to our advantage, and we changed things up entirely: We started putting things that don't go bad in the big drawer, such as beverage cans, unopened juice boxes, pickled greens etc, and the veggies now go on the area just above, out in the open, so I can see them everytime I open up the fridge. I also have a little magnet whiteboard on the fridge's door, and whenever we do groceries I make a list of the stuff we have to consume quickly before it goes bad - visual cues help me quite a bit. I'm happy to say it's been quite a while since we've let greens go to waste!!!
Optimize your space (specifically for you) II: In the same logic as the item above, you can (and should) adapt your space to you, and not the other way around. I have a little stepladder that I use as a stool whenever I'm cooking or washing dishes, because it's hard for me to stand up for too long. Whenever I start using a utensil more often and it was initially stored behind doors or someplace hard to reach, I change things up to bring it closer and have it easily accessible. If I don't use something for more than a year, I put it away a little further away to free up space for something I use often. I'm always optimizing my space and keeping the things I use the most very easily accessible; it's not an easy process to change things up like this, but I promise the positive effects of this strategy are long lasting in my daily routine!
Learn the best way to freeze and use leftovers, vegetables and fruit, and adapt them to your routine: I freeze chopped bananas and avocados that would go bad otherwise, because I like turning them into smoothies. Leftover rice is saved to make fried rice which we love! Learning the best way to freeze broccoli was a game changer and it gave me a week of really nice quick meals! Google is your friend and there's so much handy info out there, being curious and adventurous really pays back in the kitchen.
Batch make and freeze sandwiches for a quick snack: I picked this tip up from the Exec Dysfunction Meals group! I've been doing it for a few weeks and it really helps. Whenever I feel like I have the extra spell slots, I make a couple more sandwiches than I would normally, put them in little freezer baggies and freeze them. Whenever my wife and I want a quick bite and don't feel like making anything, grabbing a sammich and popping it on our sandwich toaster is so easy and it makes a warm and crunchy meal. I've done it with ham, cheese and oregano, I have friends who do this with plain toast too.
Batch make garlic paste and chopped onions to freeze, for quick cooking starters: Yes I'm aware a lot of people speak against this, but hear me out. As a brazilian, a lot of my cooking starts with crushed garlic and chopped onions. Whenever possible, I do prefer these ingredients to be prepared and used as fresh as I can, but whenever the executive dysfunction or the joint pains hit, having these starters ready to go help a lot. For the garlic, I either crush or process a head of garlic or a handful of cloves finely with salt, then use silicon ice trays to freeze it into little cubes. For the onions, I chop them finely on the food processor, get rid of the excess water, put them into a freezer bag and use the dull side of a knife - or a spoon - to shape them into flat little squares (the flatter it is, the easier it will be to defrost and sauteé them). When it comes the time to get some rice or some stir fry started, I grab one little cube of garlic and one little square of onion and sauteé them; it's quick, easy, and effortless.
Process anything you can: This one is kind of specific, but for some reason I was raised to think that everything is better if it has a lot of effort involved, specially in the kitchen. That's the reason why I've hesitated so much to really put our food processor to use, and kept insisting to do a lot of things the "traditional" way. In the last few years I finally stopped pushing myself and now I use it to grate, slice, chop and blend everything I can. Being adventurous and figuring out in which ways can I put the processor to use instead of doing things by hand is a fun puzzle, too. Besides, a masterfully crafted meal with things finely chopped by my own hands won't help me at all if it never becomes a reality due to how tired or sore I feel to cook.
[I might either come back and add more to this post in the future, or reblog it to add more tips!]

I’ve come up with my own personal spin on the whole “clean when you want to procrastinate on writing a paper and do homework when you want to procrastinate on cleaning the house” thing.
It is… “clean the kitchen/do meal prep when I need to snap myself out an internet black hole of hyperfixation and anxiety, and go to the internet to read about my hyperfixations when I’m exhausted from doing Kitchen Things and need to reset my brain.”
Okay it’s not as snappy but it’s working out pretty well so far.

while walking the streets of the neighborhood nearest to my apartment, I spotted a woman crouching in her front yard. she smiled and waved me over. "these are persimmons!" she showed me, "see, you don't pick them off the tree, you pick them off the ground once they're ripe." she gestured to the small, soft, orange fruits littered around her. "would you like some? here, I'll get you a sack. the ones from this tree are firmer," she rambled as she gathered handfuls of the fruit before disappearing into her home for a paper bag. as she returned she instructed me, "don't wash them, just a quick rinse will do." I thanked her profusely for her gift and she just smiled and said "no, thank you. really."
I barely got myself out of bed this morning, have been struggling for weeks with basic tasks due to my depression making an ugly return. some days I sleep for 16+ hours, just wishing the day would end. I teared up as I walked away from that woman's home with a small sack of ripe fruits. the kindness of a stranger can be so overwhelming, so healing. love is real and it is stored in the persimmons.

its okay to rot in bed sometimes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sometimes it's okay to take a little break from life because the reality is, we are all tired. we all want to just take a day off and spend all day in our beds. sometimes when we feel depressed we will also want to rot in bed all day. bed rotting is not okay when it comes to a point where it just becomes daily life, or like a trend that is encouraged as a good thing. bed rotting should only be when you are in a very depressed state, or just tired. if you can relate to this post in any type of way, do not feel bad for bed rotting, you just need a break. :)

a letter to twenty one pilots
Dear twenty one pilots,
Thank you.
You gave a voice to the cuts in my brain when I didn’t know what they were trying to say.
I was less alone when I had Migraine and Kitchen Sink to hold my depression.
I owe you my life, for leaching the loneliness from mental illness and teaching me not to let my demons win.
From,
Me

soup
breaking character because i accidentally made a tasty soup just now and the internet needs to be aware:
i made this in 10 minutes from prepped ingredients lying around, using a heat resistant measuring cup (for the broth) and a wok. two big mugs and a pot works the same. if you need/prefer to chop something then a chopping board or scissors are needed as well
STEPS
1. liquids: 1) bone broth infused with ginger. 2) southern ginseng tea with honey.* set aside both.
2. in wok/pot you usually make soup in: olive oil + chili flakes.** sauté roughly chopped mushrooms then add peas and baby carrots*** with a some water and optionally mirin
3. when the veggies are mostly soft, add the broth and tea.**** at the very end add chopped green onion, basil and baby spinach.
4. turn off stove and mix in miso paste. plate with soy cured egg yolk, black sesame and a dash of oil*****
MEASUREMENTS
1/2l broth, 2dl tea, 1 fistful of chopped mushrooms, 2 fistfuls of pea+carrot mix, just listen to your heart, 2 fistfuls of baby spinach, 1 egg yolk/serving, reasonable amount of spices, herbs and seasonings
*listen just make sure your broth tastes like ginger. i did stock cube+frozen ginger sticks bc that’s what i had. also i assume green tea or nettle tea would be good substitutes, i just had some southern ginseng left from the morning
** if you are fancy you can fish out the ginger from the broth and throw it into the oil with the chilli i guess? also maybe some garlic? i meant to add garlic but forgot
*** i used fresh brown champignon + frozen pea/carrot mix. adjust cooking method if all of your ingredients are fresh/frozen/dried etc. idk i’m not a professional. but i do think it tastes better if you somewhat caramelise the mushrooms first
**** i also added a dash of tomato paste, but if you are better than me and have good quality broth then i don’t think this is necessary
*****i think some noodles would be nice too. maybe next time
