To anyone who thinks nandor can’t read. First of all reading and spelling are two different things. Second, English is not the only language in the world. Third, misspelling words isn’t a sign of stupidity. Fourth, Nandor didn’t even go to school to learn languages, yet he can still read and write at least two languages. Fifth, we saw nandor read letters and recite from books on several occasions please remember those. Sixth, he may be bad at spelling stupidass english words but he has written a diary which historians mistook for an actual novel. Seventh, we saw him read a book on the fall of roman empire and in s5 he was reading a book even I don’t know what it was about, so he’s not reading trash. Thank you for attention.

Here's another book recommendations post! Please note that I myself am not Persian nor have I ever even been to Iran. These are just some books by Iranian or Iranian-American writers that I enjoyed.

The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali

- historical fiction, historical romance, based on the 1950s Mossadegh coup, broke my heart into a million pieces, beautiful story, love it

Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

- memoir, set between the 70s-90s in Tehran, examines the role of literature and art and censorship in revolution, very feminist work

Zarathustra, prophet of Zoroastrianism, after his vision that monotheism must be the only true god, debated all those among the priestly class and won in each case, but the king still wanted to throw him in prison. Around this time, he wrote these lines. Only some time later, after a private audience with the King, did the King come to understand his ideas, seeing that the priestly classes main concern was a threat to their power, and he changed his mind, granting him his life.

Hâfiz Shirazi's Life: Ḥāfeẓ, also spelled Ḥāfiẓ, in full Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfiẓ, (born 1325/26, Shīrāz, Iran—died 1389/90, Shīrāz), one of the finest lyric poets of Persia. Ḥāfeẓ received a classical religious education, lectured on Qurʾānic and other theological subjects (“Ḥāfeẓ” designates one who has learned the Qurʾān by heart), and wrote commentaries on religious classics. As a court poet, he enjoyed the patronage of several rulers of Shīrāz. About 1368–69 Ḥāfeẓ fell out of favour at the court and did not regain his position until 20 years later, just before his death. In his poetry there are many echoes of historical events as well as biographical descriptions and details of life in Shīrāz. One of the guiding principles of his life was Sufism, the Islamic mystical movement that demanded of its adherents complete devotion to the pursuit of union with the ultimate reality. Every time I see Rumi's poems in English it breaks my heart because they're always from The Essential Rumi by Coleman Barks, a huckster who doesn't even know Persian and mistranslated and erased Islam from them. The West cannot touch anything without warping it beyond recognition and then hawking it all over the globe to line their own pockets.

I know the translations by AJ Arberry and William Chittock are considered a lot more faithful, but I really want to read one by a scholar from Iran or at least the Middle East. I'm so tired of having to talk to communicate with other Global South cultures through the West.
