When they neglect you for another girl Part 5 (Kuroo)
Tumblr media
Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five
Word count: 1.3K
Genre: angst, fluff
masterlist
Tumblr media
You and Kuroo have been dating all throughout highschool and now your in you first year of university
It’s a bit harder to see each other because of your conflicting class schedules
But when you did see eachother kuroo has been acting a big suspicious, ‘secretly’ glancing at his phone or always needing to head out early.
And you were going to get to the bottom of this.
You were just finished with your class, and you had plans to meet your boyfriend at the library so he could tutor you for your chem test that you on Tuesday. On your way over there, you got boba for both of you and some study snacks to get you through the session.
You arrived their first, which you didn’t really mind as Kuroo was usually a bit late to your study sessions (especially recently with his dodgy behaviour.) You decided to go over your recent class notes as you were waiting, which was pretty useless as you didn’t understand anything.
You actually met Kuroo bonding over chemistry, since it definitely wasn’t your best subject so in your first year your chem teacher suggested getting a tutor and recommend Kuroo Testuro the self proclaimed best ‘chemist’ in the school.
It’s been half an hour and Kuroo hadn’t shown up, you were about to call him until you saw a quite disheveled looking Kuroo who is heaving out of breath.
“Tetsu, what happened to you?” you exclaim with amusement.
“Umm I kind of got in a fight?” he said questioning himself “well not really a fight but a disagreement.”
“A fight? With who?” you said a bit too loudly, as the librarian gave you an obnoxious ‘shusshhhh’ glaring at you.
“It doesn’t matter babe.” he said nonchalantly “I see you have your electrolysis work out, why don’t we get started.”
“But what abo-”
“So what is positive, the anode or the cathode?” he asked distracting you from asking him about what happened.
You spent two hours going over all the topics that were going to come up on your exam, and you can’t lie and say Kuroo didn’t help you. However, you weren’t as focused as you were wondering what happened to him.
After your study session, you both went to your dorms. Sadly, you couldn’t share a room since your University didn’t allow co-ed dorms (and maybe if you did live together, you’d be able to understand his odd behaviour.)
Even though he was still in highschool, every Friday afterschool you and Kenma made sure to spend atleast an hour playing a game online together, and today it was minecraft.
“Kenma help, theres a creeper outside my door!” you screech frantically running around on game.
“One second Y/N” he murrmed
“Kenma, do you know what’s going on with Kuroo.” you inquire.
“What do you mean, isn’t he being his loud cat-like self?” he responded
“Well yeah of course, but recently he’s been on his phone ALOT, and always leaving our dates early or showing up late and stuff so I don’t know I thought maybe you’d know something.”
“Oh maybe it’s just that he’s been pretty busy with Hana right now.” he said nochalantly
“Who’s Hana?” you say, your eyes squinting.
“Oh you don’t know Hana,” he said a bit surprised “Ooops Kuroo’s going to be so mad at me.”
“Mad at you, what do you mean mad at you?”
“Um, I got to go by Y/N!” he said quickly
“But Ken-” the sound of him leaving the party cut you off, and now you were in more of a confused slump then you were before. What is Kuroo hiding? And who the hell is Hana?
Since you couldn’t go over to Kuroo’s dorm right now because of your universities weird curfew times, you decided the only thing you can do right now is call him. After a few rings he finally answered and you could hear his background was really loud.
“Um, Y/N this isn’t really the best time right now – ow shit.” he said frantically.
“Kuroo, what's going on it sounds like you’re at a rave. Wait are you at a rave?”
“No I'm not at a rave I'm just – Hana stop doing that.” he said trying to whisper the last bit.
“Who’s Hana, Kenma mentioned her on PlayStation tonight but he didn’t explain.”
“Kenma did what? God – Ouch “there was ruffling in the background before Kuroo finally “Sorry Y/N I got to go..”
He hangs up before you could respond. What is wrong with these boys today?
It was your study week break, so you don’t really go into school to do classes you just have to prepare for studying. Which was great for you, since you could actually get revision done without being distracted and you can avoid Kuroo whilst thinking about what happened a few days ago.
Kuroo didn’t message you anyways, which kind of sucked, since these chemistry notes aren’t going to learn themselves. You went over each of your topics that you need to learn and you’d say you were pretty much ready for your exams. So for the rest of the week, you didn’t have much to do. Kenma was pretty busy with volleyball and his high school life and your boyfriend was still being odd and you didn’t have any real close friends at Uni since you’re only a first year and Kenma and Kuroo were mainly all you needed anyways.
You chose to go on a date, by yourself, to your favourite bookstore café to have some ‘self care’ time. On the way their you heard a familiar voice shouting down the street, looking in that direction you saw your boyfriend yelling “HANA!” “HANA!” repeadetly.
Going over to him you said, “Kuroo, are you okay?”
“Umm hey Y/N...” he said awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck “to what do I owe this pleasure?”
“The pleasure of being my boyfriend properly again,” you said smartly.
“Oh Y/N shit, im sorry about that” he apologised “I’ve just been really busy right now with Ha-”
“Hana.” you say rolling your eyes “Who is she?”
“I can’t really say Y/N, it was meant to a be a surprise.”
“A surprise for who?” you say
“Well fo-”
Before you can finish you say a loud ‘HISSS!’ Come from near your feet. “Hana! Thank god!” Kuroo said picking her up, but then dropping her again when she did a even louder HISSS at him. “Umm I really need to work on that..”
“So this is Hana.” you say a bit stunned “She’s a cat.”
“Indeed she is.” he said “ surprise...”
“You got me a cat?” you said still very stunned
“Indeed I did.”
“A feral cat?”
“Feral!” he said shocked “What do you mean feral!”
“Tetsu! She’s obviously feral!” you say reprimanded him.
“No she’s not! Look” he tried to pet her again and she nearly bit him and then sped off “Okay...maybe she is.”
Kuroo explained that he saw this cat one time outside of his dorm building and wanted to adopt her and give her to you as a gift. He’s been spending his time trying to ‘train her’ but every time it would result in Kuroo getting scratched up or him having to try and chase her around the city. You did appreciate the sentiment, however you reminded Kuroo that if he would’ve told you, you could’ve easily shown him that she was feral or if he listened to Kenma, then Kenma would’ve told him (which he did) that she was feral.
Kuroo did feel bad that his big plan didn’t work and he ended up looking like an idiot, not knowing the difference between a stray and feral cat. But you took him to a cat café as a little ‘pick me up,’ and promised him that for his birthday you’ll adopt a real cat for him.
An: this is basically a shit post but who cares 😃 Also am I the only that thinks that hana being a feral cat in the end is funny? Or is my humour that dry😭

His Baby

This is a request long overdue. This is exactly why I can’t do requests. 😥 I’m sorry this is just like this. I think the AU Gods hate me. 🤣 I’m not a Science major but all exams are hard, I just looked for a subject which I had difficulty understanding.
'Babe, are you available now?'
'I have a class at 2 pm.'
'Why?'
'Nothing much. I'll see you later.'
You sighed. You don't want to sound like a baby but you just needed Yuta right now. Even from the start, you were aware that Bio Chem is a hard subject to take. A lot of your block mates were telling you to drop the subject but you wanted to prove to yourself that you can pass this. Now, your stubbornness has caused you a great deal.
You spent days and nights reviewing for the exam so it frustrates you that you missed just two points to reach the passing grade. Just two fucking points. You shouldn't have eaten dinner last night and studied, you might have barely passed the exam. You wanted to cry, that's 40% of your final grade failed.
Your phone vibrated and you clicked a message by Yuta. ‘I’m outside your building.’
You keep on muttering to yourself to don’t cry. It’s just one exam. It’s not the end of the world. But when you saw your boyfriend, seated on one flowerbed outside your building and checking his shoes (insert picture above), the tears automatically fell from your eyes. “Hey baby, what’s wrong?” he asked, worry present in his voice. Now, you’re more scared that he’ll think that you’re so dramatic over this. “Are you hurt?” You shook your head, refusing to look at him. “Did you fail the exam?” Your eyes widened at that. He knew? “You have an exam today, don’t you?”
You blinked, staring at him in surprise. How did he know that? He wiped the tears from your cheeks. “Your friend said that it was pretty hard.” He smiled reassuringly at you and you wanted to punch yourself at how stupid you’re being.
“I studied hard for it and I missed passing it because of two questions.” You explained. “I’m sorry. I’m just really frustrated in myself right now.”
Yuta chuckled that made you glare. “Still, that’s pretty impressive. The sunbaes said that Bio Chem is one of the hardest exams in the university.” He held your cheeks then kissed your forehead. “How are you so smart? Can you share some brain cells with me?” You whined then poked his side, making him laugh. “That exam doesn't define who you are, even your grades don’t. Don't be too worried."
You feel bad. He's right. It's just an exam. Why are you so petty over it? "I'm sorry. It just frustrates me."
He held the back of your head, hugging you again. "We can study some more then we'll ace the exams next time." He assured. "You're doing great, my love."
"I was right to message you. Thank you."
He shook his head, smiling. "That's the least I can do as your boyfriend."
"I'm sorry for being such a baby."
Yuta laughed. "Cue in your favorite movie line…" he started that made you smile. "My love is not fragile, Ana." He said in a voice imitating Kristoff which made you giggle. “Besides, you are my baby.” You smiled at that. "Do you want to come over later? I'll get you pizza and we can watch your favorite show."
"Yuta, I failed my exam. I don't deserve that."
"You do." He kissed your cheek. "I'll see you later. I still have a class to attend." You gasped. Oh yeah, it's just five minutes before 2 pm. He'll be late. You waved goodbye to him and he just gestured for his phone, walking backward just to face you. You nodded and he sprinted to where their building is.
You smiled at the thought that you have Yuta. Well, studying is all worth it when you're with him.

A Reunion - Part 1 | Peter Parker x Stark! GN Reader
A/N: Remember over a month ago when I wrote this preview and didn’t post again? Oops sorry, I had to take a little break from tumblr because I was reading way too much fanfic. But now I’m back, just to post, still no reading for a while! Umm but yeah, here’s the first part! I can’t guarantee when part 2 will be posted but it’ll definitely be within the next 2 weeks! I hope you like it, please let message me with any feedback because I need validation to stay motivated lol
Summary: Y/N is an Avenger, the youngest Avenger. Then, Peter Parker comes along and they’re happy to finally have someone their age to hang out with, even if it was the boy they spent their senior year of high school crushing over.
Content Warnings: I don’t think there are any - let me know if I missed any though!
Genres: Friends to lovers, Stark! Reader, Frequent cameos from Avengers and them being cute, Slow burn, Fluff, Angst
Word Count: 2019
                                                             ----
“Alright gang.” Tony begins, standing in front of all the Avengers at the end of a large oval table in the conference room.
“I’m sure you’ve seen these ‘viral videos’ of this Spider-Boy kid swinging around the city and being a friendly neighbourhood vigilante. Well, Happy and I have managed to track him down and he’s agreed to join the team”
“Viral videos of superheroes?” Steve exclaims, looking at Tony whilst tilting his head and looking genuinely exhausted. “I’m still catching up on these keyboard cats and kids biting fingers”.
I giggle. Having Steve around was just the same as having an uncle you saw once the year who lived of the grid. He was extremely sweet, but utterly clueless to anything other than his job. But I mean, that job does include fighting evil aliens.
“Anyway…” Tony continues as the other Avengers chuckles die down after Steve’s outcry “he arrived not too long ago. Happy is next door giving him all the T&Qs and they should be done now. Let me just check and I’ll introduce you all.” Tony then leaves the room, and the other Avengers start to talk among themselves.
I pull out my phone and type ‘NYC spider boy’ into YouTube clicking on the second search result with 20 million views. I have seen this video before as my friend Michael sent it to me around a week ago.
“Do you think there are many other super kids wandering around the city?” Sam asks, whilst looking at the video of my shoulder. Currently the hero is stopping a city bus from off-roading into some confused tourists by building up a wall with his web.
“I doubt it, I mean I guess he’s the only one going viral” I answer, moving the angle of my phone so the others who have gathered around me can see “but it would be cool to be able to meet some people my age who do what I do, no offence guys”
They all laugh. Being the youngest Avenger and hanging out with 30+ year olds all the time can be kind of isolating, but it’s like having a super close family. A family who also happen to be in life and death situations regularly together. But that’s a great bonding experience I would say.
“Guys, this is Peter, the Spider-Boy” Tony draws our attention away from my phone to the door where he has just entered.
“Spider-Man” Peter mutters as a lame attempt to correct him.
“Peter?” I question and the boy stood in front of me was not who I expected. I didn’t expect the masked vigilante swinging through New York to be someone that I knew.
“Y/N?” He responds, looking even more confused than I am “What are you doing here?”
-
“So Tony Stark is your dad?” Peter asks.
After seeing a guy from your school who you shared a chemistry class with last year, walking into a super-secret meeting for superheroes where he will be now joining your team. It is understandable that Peter and I were now talking this out to figure out how this state could be so small.
“Yep” I answer. We were sat next to each other on bar stools at the kitchen island. Wanda made some of her famous fruit smoothies for us and we were both stirring them around with our straws whilst conversing alone in the main living space.
“But your last name isn’t Stark, or Potts?” He continues, genuinely really confused about this whole situation.
“Yeah, well you can’t have the daughter of a billionaire and superhero couple walking around New York City alone, going to a normal school, having normal hobbies. It’s like asking for me to be taken hostage. So, I don’t have either of their last names and the general public doesn’t know I exist. It’s for my safety” I continue, reciting this memorised answer I’ve had to say to multiple people once they find out my existence.
Peter nodded as if he was understanding everything, he probably was, but I guess this wasn’t the conversation he planned to have today.
“And you’re the great Spider-Man” I continued, wanting the change the subject from me to him. “How did that happen? Wait… were you Spider-Man when you sat behind me in Chem last year?”
He began to explain to me the story, it happened to him on our school trip to OSCORP we took last year for our Chem class that happened just before the end of the semester. Something about a radioactive spider. It was strange, kind of the weirdest superhero transformation story I’ve heard. And I’ve heard quite a few.
My story was nowhere near as interesting. I guess having superhero parents who were always around weird alien technology and contaminated substances led to some weird epigenetic alterations of their reproductive cells and then when they had me, I could turn invisible.
They didn’t know at first, I was seemingly a normal baby. Then at my 2nd birthday party when they surprised me with a freaky clown, I was so scared that my body just decided to turn invisible. They weren’t expecting it, the clown definitely wasn’t expecting it and they had to cover up with a very convincing lie.
From then, whenever I was embarrassed, scared or essentially in a situation where I wanted to disappear. I did. Literally. It wasn’t entirely effective though as even though my body tuned invisible, the clothes I was wearing didn’t. I spent the majority of my preteen years of being a walking hoodie and jeans with no head or hands protruding from the gaps. For my 13th birthday Bruce and I got to work on a suit which responds to the activity of my skin cells, when I was invisible, my suit was invisible. It made it a lot more effective for me to actually be invisible when I turned but it also meant my dad let me start training to become an Avenger.
Training was fun, I worked with Nat a lot in our gym in order to become an efficient fighter. ‘Just because people couldn’t see me, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t know how to serve a mean right hook’ she always said. I also spent a lot of time with Wanda, trying to manage my powers. Now I am able to actually turn invisible and visible again on demand. And it only takes extreme embarrassment now to turn me invisible against my will, which is great because mum and dad finally let me, after my years of begging, attend Midtown High and stop being home school. This is where I met Peter last year and now I’m at Columbia studying genetics and engineering. A double major, I know but when you’re around the top geniuses in the world everyday, there is no such thing as too much learning.
“So, I guess we’re the only Midtown Alumni to have these crazy powers huh?” Peter finishes. After a long ramble about his becoming a superhero story. I guess he wanted to ease the tension after I couldn’t really think of what to say after “that’s super cool”. It wasn’t like I wasn’t interested, I really was, but when I wanted to have another person my age to hang out with, I didn’t expect it to be the boy I spent my senior year of high school obsessing over. I had turned shy, like really shy, like my normal levels of shy times 50. I couldn’t think of what to say.
“Sorry, if that story was too long and boring, I’ve only gotten to tell it to one person before, my best friend Ned so I was kind of excited to be able to tell it again.”
“No, it wasn’t boring, it was genuinely really cool!” I say a little too loudly and enthusiastically. I cringe at my tone of voice and speak normally again as I continue “It’s just I didn’t really expect the new Avengers recruit to be you, you know, like someone I know. It’s just kind of weird, but nice? I don’t know, now I’m rambling”
Peter chuckles.
“Umm, so are you going to be staying with us whilst you train or are you going back to Queens?” I ask, hoping this new question will miraculously erase Peter’s memory of what I last said.
“A bit of both, my Aunt is back in queens and I don’t want to leave her completely alone, but this upstate facility is a little too far for an everyday commute. I’m here just for today but once I start training on Monday, I think I might stay for the whole week.”
“Well, I can give you the tour! Since you’ll be staying with us soon, I guess you’ll want to know where everything is!” I say whilst jumping of my bar stool and putting my half full smoothie cup in the fridge. I noticed peter has just finished his, so I grab the glass and put it in the dishwasher for him. He thanks me as I do so.
“So this is the kitchen, where we make our food, different from the kitchen where the chefs make our food for occasions, charity events blah blah blah. And also, this seating area here is kind of the main seating area where we’ll sit throughout the day. Lots of sofas because there are lots of us and this is Bucky’s armchair. Don’t ever sit in Bucky’s armchair.” I say, stopping behind the chair and resting my hand on the headrest.
“Bucky, scary guy with the metal arm right?” Peter questions whilst following me at a slight distance around the room as I show him around. I nod. “Yeah, don’t worry, I won’t be sitting in his chair” he laughs.
I continue to show him the rest of the complex, the gym, the labs and finish up on the floor with all our rooms.
“I’m not sure which one of these rooms will be yours because we have a couple spare ones, but they all have the same layout. Look I’ll show you mine” I walk into my room, then hold the door open for Peter so he can follow me in.
“Uh, so this is my room. Obviously, yours won’t be decorated like mine but It’ll be the same size and have an en-suite attached with a full shower and tub and stuff. You know, the basics” I say, whilst sitting on the edge of my bed.
“I like your room, it’s cosy” he adds whilst looking around and then heading for the bookshelf as soon as he spots it.
“Ah thanks, I mean it’s cool, bigger than when we were in the tower in the city so I can’t complain” I say whilst also looking around. What is it about someone else being in your room that makes you see it with fresh eyes and make you super self-conscious that there is going to be a rogue piece of underwear on the floor? Even though I know I tidied my room this morning.
“Holy crap, Vision you scared the life out of me” I say on an exhale whilst holding my hand to my chest after the large gasp I just made as he enters the room, through the wall.
“Sorry, but your door is open” He continues, “Mr. Stark has told me that your car is here to take you back home Mr. Parker. If you would just follow me, I can lead you there” Vision continues, as if him just floating through my bedroom wall and speaking to the boy from my chemistry class now turned superhero was a normal thing to happen on a Thursday evening.
“Oh… thanks Vision” Peter says with some hesitancy, you can see that this is a weird circumstance for him too. “Well, I’ll see you on Monday then” he says smiling at me and walking towards the door. Which vision doesn’t use to exit.
“Yeah, see you then” I smile as he closes the door and I’m left in my room listening to him shuffling down the corridor.

I Never Thought They’d Get Me Here
Tumblr media
Ray Toro x Gender Neutral!Reader (ending 3 of 4 for Here In This House of Wolves)
Word Count: 1481
A/N: Yeah, I suck. I’m really sorry for the wait with this one, but I hope it was worth it :)
Disclaimer: This is entirely a work of fiction. No part of this story is meant to be libel, slander, or in any way derogatory towards any character’s real life counterpart. I’m not delusional; I know that these characters are simply based off of a public persona and may not actually resemble the people behind those personas. Any additional characters that you do not recognize are entirely fictional, unless otherwise stated. And finally, if you got here by Googling yourself, whatever happens next is 100% on you.
“Okay,” Brian said, turning around and stopping before entering the building. “I’m thinking we should split into pairs, just in case?”
“The buddy system, really?” Frank snorted. “This isn’t kindergarten, Brian.”
“I, for one, am in favor of this plan,” Gerard said, sounding nervous. Mikey moved to stand next to him without either of them saying anything.
“I’ll go with Ray. I feel like being paired up with the tallest one here is a good idea,” you stated boldly, smiling up at him. You had made up your mind on the way over. Today was the day you told Ray how you felt about him.
“Well,” Brian said glumly. “I guess someone needs to babysit Frank. Let’s go.”
Frank grinned, seemingly unoffended.
After the guides explained the rules and offered you the last chance to turn back, they brought you to the door that would lead you to what they claimed was “your worst nightmare.” You swallowed and moved next to Ray.
“Nervous?” he smiled at you.
“Yeah,” you nodded. You weren’t about to tell him it had less to do with the haunted house and more to do with the fact that you planned to tell him about your long-standing crush. Not yet, at least.
The last thing you saw before you were ushered into pitch blackness was an unreadable look on Ray’s face.
---
A few minutes later, you were shuffling down the path behind Gerard and Mikey with Ray by your side.
“This goddamn hallway,” Frank muttered up in the front, with Brian. “I have no idea if we’re even heading in the right direction.”
“It does feel like we’re going in circles,” Ray agreed. “Maybe we should split up and try and find the way to the next area.”
You heard Mikey and Gerard move off to your left while Frank and Brian pushed on to your right.
“Guess it’s just us now,” Ray said, somehow finding your hand in the dark. You were glad he couldn’t see you blushing.
“Yeah,” you whispered as your nerves skyrocketed. You cleared your throat. “Let’s try and beat them to the exit!”
Unfortunately, fifteen minutes later, you were no closer than any of the others. Speaking of which-
“Ray, do you know where the others are? I haven’t heard them in a while.”
“Me either,” he sighed. “Oh, shit!”
“What’d you find?” You were ready to get out of the dark hallway.
“I think I found a crack in the wall,” he said, sounding like he was concentrating. “Hold on-”
The section of the wall he was pushing on gave way, and you stepped out into what seemed to be an indoor maze. You took in the fake ivy-covered walls while Ray closed the door behind him.
“Wouldn’t want the others to figure out our secret,” he said sheepishly when he noticed your questioning look. “Shall we?”
And for the second time that day, you were holding hands with Ray Toro.
---
As you wandered up and down the paths with Ray, you let yourself get lost in thought. You remembered the tall, shy (and cute!), guy that Gerard had practically dragged down the basement steps for the first time, barely a week after the band went from being an idea Gerard would call you about at two in the morning to something real. You shook your head at yourself when you thought about how nervous you had been about adding a new member. You had been worried that Ray wouldn’t fit in with the long-standing, easy-going friendship you had with Mikey and Gerard. But, Gerard was right. The band needed someone who could play live. And Ray was certainly one hell of a guitarist.
In hindsight, it should have been no surprise that you and Ray became fast friends. Not only were you both dedicated, passionate, and talented musicians, but you genuinely clicked on many other levels as well. You couldn’t even count the hours spent in the Way brothers’ basement, arguing the odds of surviving your favorite horror movie scenes or building your absolute dream bands consisting of your favorite musicians. It only made more sense that you began to fall for him around the time My Chem went into the studio for the first time. You remembered staying into the early hours of the morning, hanging out on Geoff’s couch together as you pored over the previous day’s takes, eventually falling asleep on each other until Gerard woke you up to complain about his tooth.
“I hope you’re not laughing at me, or you might not be able to find your duffle bag tonight.”
You hadn’t even realized the small smile forming on your face until Ray interrupted your thoughts. You glanced up at him and saw a grin on his face that told you he was only joking.
“Wait, why would I be laughing at you?”
“Because,” he said, sounding glum. “I think we’ve been going in circles for the past twenty minutes.”
“We’ll figure it- wait, did you say twenty minutes? There’s no way this place is that big. How long have we been in here?”
Ray glanced at his watch. “25 minutes, actually.”
You swore as you sat down. “You don’t think the others got out already, do you? I mean, they would come back for us, right?”
Ray laughed as he sat down next to you, leaning against the wall of the maze. “Frankie might try it, just for shits and giggles, but Brian wouldn’t let him.”
“Thank god for Schechter,” you agreed. The conversation lapsed into silence, and you decided now was as good a time as any to test the waters. “Hey, at least we’re stuck together, right?”
Ray shifted to face you, smiling. “That’s true, Gerard would be hyperventilating by now.”
“And Brian would smack us upside the heads for getting lost in the first place.” You laughed and then took a second to regain your composure. “But, if I’m being honest… there’s really another reason why I’m glad I’m with you. Even if we might die in this maze.”
You paused, studying Ray’s face for a reaction. You thought you saw a flicker of emotion, but you couldn’t be sure. Apparently, Ray’s poker face could rival Mikey’s.
When you could tell that he wasn’t going to say anything, you continued. “I think it’s kinda obvious but… you’re my best friend. And as much as I don’t want to change everything for the worse, I feel like I can’t really hide it anymore. Ray… I think I’m in love with you.”
What you were going to say next died in your throat when Ray surged forward to kiss you. Your perception of the world around you slowly melted away as all of your senses began to hyperfocus on Ray. You couldn’t help the faint sigh that escaped you as he shifted closer, wrapping one arm around your waist and resting his other hand on the side of your face. Almost involuntarily, you scooted backwards until your back was resting against the corner you had sat down in, trying to get him as close to you as possible.
It was at about that point that you heard a familiar (and at the moment, grating) voice yelling at you from several feet away.
“Holy shit! Brian, you can call off the search party! I found them, and they’re making out, ew!”
Ray pulled away from you the second Frank had made his presence known. Though he rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed, you could see a blush creeping up his cheeks. If the heat in your face was any indication, you were sure you looked similar.
“Shut up, Frank,” Brian said as he rounded the corner, rolling his eyes. He turned to you and Ray and sighed, smiling. “I can’t say I’m not surprised.”
“Oh, Brian, are you gonna give them the ‘safe sex’ lecture? Scratch that, are you sure they know about the birds and the bees?” Frank said, and then laughed like that was the funniest thing in the world.
“Hey,” Ray said, scowling as he stood up. He offered you a hand and pulled you to your feet. “You better quiet down or I’ll make sure you never get shotgun again.”
“Okay, cut it out, assholes,” Brian cut in, though there was no real anger behind it. “We need to go find the others before Gerard goes into a catatonic state of shock.”
You half-listened to Ray and Frank bicker some more as you trailed behind them, unable to keep the smile off your face. It almost felt easier to breathe with your confession off your chest.
You had almost forgotten that you were still holding hands with Ray until he stopped suddenly, waiting to get a little distance from Frank and Brian.
“Hey,” he said, smiling down at you.
“Hey?”
“I forgot to tell you. I think I love you too.”

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday consisted of either early morning classes, midday classes, and the occasional class that ran past 8 pm. Fridays were the only day you can claim as yours, but of course, you had to work.
It was Thursday and the cool New York air was engulfing you and your roommates as the three of you made your way to the usual coffee shop that was a little bit off campus. “Gonna ogle the cute barista again?” Wanda nudged.
“Ah yes, young love,” Nat snickered.
“Shut up,” you felt the heat rise up to your cheeks, “I think he’s cute, but he probably has so many girls fawning over him.”
“Remember, we are the one cute girls in the coffee shop,” Nat said, opening the door, “After you, m’lady.”
That resulted in you and Wanda letting out a laugh, “Okay incel,” Wanda responded. The three of you glanced up at the menu, “I’m feeling tea today, but what kind?” Wanda said.
“After that comment, poison flavoured,” Nat muttered.
You let out a laugh, “You’re quite spicy today, go for a spiced tea.”
Wanda stuck her tongue out at Nat, “That’s why she’s my favourite roommate,” Glancing back at the menu, “Is Russian spiced tea good?”
“I don’t know, ask your favourite roommate,” Nat said.
“Bitch.”
The cute blond barista came up to the register, “You ready? Or do you need another minute?”
You felt Nat pinch your left ass cheek, and you nudge your elbow into her ribcage, “Yeah. Can I get a caramel iced coffee?”
“Of course, what else?” He asked.
“Can I get a cinnamon dolce latte?” Nat spoke keeping her hand near your ass cheeks.
“Of course, and for you?” He indirectly asked Wanda.
“Russian spiced tea please.” She spoke.
“That’s $17.60, here or to go?” He asked.
“Here,” Wanda said, while digging in her backpack for her wallet, “Credit please?”
“Aww, we love it when our sugar daddy treats us,” You snickered, resulting in a laugh from Nat and the barista.
“It’s only because she bought dinner and you bought dessert last night,” she grumbled.
“Go take a seat, and I’ll bring the drinks over when they’re done.” He spoke, which resulted in a hums of thank you from the three of you and you guys walked over to the usual booth you guys inhabited when you were here.
“Is there a reason that my poor ass cheek got abused?” You asked.
“He was checking you out,” Nat bluntly stated.
“No he wasn’t, he was doing his job.” You stated.
“And I am a natural redhead,” she sarcastically said.
“Wait, it's dye?” Wanda practically cried out.
The three of you laughed, and went over your plans for the next weekend. Nat had work and was doing rehearsal for the Russian dance competition that was happening in a few weeks. Wanda had to work and was also seeing her brother Pietro on Sunday. You on the other hand had to work, and had to have a comparative essay done by Monday.
“You’re so lucky you’re done your midterms,” Wanda said, “I’m still struggling trying to wrap my head around platyhelminths.”
“But see, you watched me and laughed at me for only surviving off of coffee and fruit snacks for three weeks straight. Now I am prospering and living my life and you have a midterm on Monday,” you said.
“You looked like death around the apartment,” Nat laughed, and the cute barista brought over your drinks.
“Russian spiced tea, cinnamon dolce latte, and caramel iced coffee,” he said, passing around the drinks, “And a tiramisu square.”
“Uh, we didn’t order this?” Nat asked.
“The table over there sent it,” he responded, pointing his head over to where a group of boys were sitting.
“Thank you,” the three of you hummed and there went the barista.
“You know,” Nat leaned into you, “He has a nice ass.”
“Nat,” You hissed.
“America is proud of that ass,” Wanda snickered.
Suddenly the group of boys that sent the dessert got louder, trying to get your attention. You rolled your eyes, “God, I hate men.”
“Except for the pretty blond one with a nice ass,” Nat said, digging into the tiramisu.
“I second that,” Wanda said, taking a bite of the piece on her spoon.
Suddenly the frat boy cult got even louder, Nat rolled her eyes, and moved your hair from the base of your neck, “What are you-” Then came a long lick from the base of your neck to your jawline. Suddenly the frat boy cult shut up, “Jesus Christ, warn a girl.”
“Why are you acting all shy now? You weren’t this shy last weekend when I was doing body shots off of you at the back of the apartment,” Nat said, nonchalantly.
“You may have shut up the frat boy cult, but the cute barista is so red you can confuse him for a bottle of ketchup.” Wanda stated.

Two weeks have passed, and you would go into the coffee shop whenever you had over an hour worth of a gap, or before work. Today is one of those days. It was Friday, and you were due to start your shift in forty-five minutes.
Walking into the shop, there was the cute barista working the front. You didn’t catch the way his eyes practically lit up upon seeing you. “Just you today?” He asked.
“Yes sir,” you said, giving him a smile.
“Caramel iced coffee?” He asked.
“Of course,” you said, digging in your bag for your wallet.
“Don’t worry, it's on the house.” He said, “Here or to go?”
“To go, please.”
“You got it doll,” and with that you stood off to the side and waited for him to make your drink.
“Caramel iced coffee,” he called out.
“Thank you, have a good day,” you called out before making your way to your shift.
“You know you look like a lovesick puppy,” Bucky said to Steve.
“That obvious?” Steve asked.
“Yeah. Also, remember, Happy is gonna take that coffee out of your paycheque,” Bucky said patting Steve’s back.
“If it’s for her, Happy can have my entire paycheque.” Steve responded, going to clean up.
“Ugh, teenagers and their hormones,” Bucky spoke.

You, Wanda, and Nat sat on your shared living room floor eating the steamed dumplings and sushi that you ordered for dinner. “So you saw the cute barista boy today,” Wanda said, “Soy sauce please.”
Nat handed her the sauce before taking a california roll for herself, “His ass still thick?”
You nearly choked on the dumpling you were eating, “Fucking Christ, Nat.”
“You can’t miss that ass!” Nat tried justifying, “He walks in, and his ass walks in five minutes later.”
Wanda choked on her iced tea, “He wore this white shirt that was way too tight for him, God that left nothing to the imagination,” you said recalling the way his muscles moved when making your coffee.
“Someone’s having a wet dream tonight,” Wanda said.
You threw a soy sauce packet at her head, “No! I don’t even know his name.”
“See that’s a problem, she can’t moan his name if she doesn’t know his name.” Nat laughed.
You threw a soy sauce packet at her head, “The both of you need to get laid.”
“So do you sweetheart, and by the big muscular blond with the thick ass who works at The Petite Bean.” Wanda said, nearly dodging another soy sauce packet.

The next Friday night you were at home by yourself eating a sandwich from the bodega that was next to your building. Wanda and Nat went to this party, you wanted to go, but after your shift, you were exhausted and just decided to call it a night.
Taking the last bite of your turkey sandwich, you got up and threw everything out, and decided to go and take a long hot shower. You stood at the tv debating whether or not you should turn off the documentary on whales, but you decided not to as it helps serve as background noise.
You showered and threw on a massive NYU hoodie and some pyjama shorts. Getting out of the shower, you headed back to the kitchen, dug around in the cabinets for a snack of a sort, and headed back to your position on the couch.
You were scrolling through your Instagram, when a random number called you. You answered because you never know it could be Nat or Wanda in trouble. “Hello?”
You heard a shaky breath from the other side, “Oh sorry, I have the wrong number.”
“Hey, before you hang up, are you okay?” You asked.
“Not really-”
You cut him off, “Did you want to talk about it? I have the time.”
“Are you sure? I don’t wanna bother you,” the man from the other side of the line said.
“Of course, shoot,” you said.
“Midterms got the worst of me. I’m practically failing chemistry, why did I take chem? Like I’m an art major, the fuck am I doing in science? Then the girl I dated for a little keeps coming by the place I work at with the man she cheated on me with, and that shit still stings. Then, there’s this cute girl who keeps coming by the place I work, and I can’t seem to talk to her. She’s like this ball of sunshine, and I don’t think I can talk to her. Do you have anything fucked up happening in your life? Or is the lord hating on me?”
You laughed, “Unfortunately, no. With the chem thing, don’t be so hard on yourself. Courses get to the best of us, we are so reliant on a GPA, when it doesn’t even guarantee a job after practically killing ourselves for this degree. Failing one course isn’t so bad, just don’t fail more than three, that might result in academic probation. Honestly, if she cheated on you, fuck her. She doesn’t deserve any of your attention, if she was the one who gave you up. And with the other girl, just slowly ease her into it, ask her how her day has been, ask her about the weather, if she’s holding a book or something, try to bond with her about that.”
“You sound like a psych major,” he joked.
“Psych minor,” you corrected, “Socio major. From what I know you can’t be a science major. So what do you major in?”
“Art history, and minor in regular history.”
“Oh, we got a huge history fan don’t we?” You joked.
“Biggest nerd in Brooklyn.”
That same night the two of you stayed talking until 4:30 am, before he heard you yawning and telling you to get some sleep. You both bidded your goodnights and the moment your head hit the pillow, you knocked out.
┍━━━━━♥♠♣♦━━━━━┑
The following morning, or afternoon at that point. You stumbled into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee, and heard Wanda and Nat groaning about how they need Advil. You opened the door to Nat’s room and saw the two of them practically cuddling. You threw two bottles of water, and the bottle of Advil at them before heading to the washroom to brush your teeth.
Once you were done, you sat on the counter of the kitchen drinking your coffee, you heard stumbling from the hallway. Suddenly, a disheveled Nat appeared, she was sporting bedhead, smeared makeup, a black lace bra and some random sleeping shorts that looked like they belonged to Wanda. “Good morning sweetheart,” you cooed.
She flipped you off before making herself a cup of coffee, “Never drinking again.”
“Nat,” Wanda whined, “Please I need a cuddle buddy.”
“You have another roommate,” Nat reminded her.
Wanda nudged your legs open and curled up into your frame, “My favourite.”
You laughed while patting her head, “What happened?”
“So much booze, free booze.” Nat stated.
Free booze to university kids was like feeding candy to a toddler. “Alright cuddlebug. I have errands to do, I gotta go shower.” You said trying to push away Wanda.
“No, please don’t.” Wanda latching onto you harder.
“She’s gonna make her way down to Manhattan to see the cute barista,” Nat joked.
“Harhar, I’m going to the bank and I need to mail out this return. The green dress was too big, had to order a size down.” You said, finishing off your coffee, finally pushing off Wanda, “Also why the fuck would I go to Manhattan to see the barista.”
“Dick makes you do crazy things baby girl.” Nat said.
┍━━━━━♥♠♣♦━━━━━┑
While you were getting dressed your mind ran onto the man who called you last night and ranted to you about his life. You decided to call him back and check up on him. After three rings he picked up, “Hello?”
“Hey, you called me last night and we talked for an hour and a half about some super deep stuff, you okay?”
“Oh, yeah, thanks for checking up on me.” He spoke.
“Not a problem, if you ever need to rant, you can always text me.” You said shoving your wallet into your bag.
“Are you sure? I don’t wanna burden.” He asked.
“If you need a friend, I am here for you.” You said.
You two exchanged names, before both of you had to go. And that started your texting relationship with a man named Steve Rogers.
┍━━━━━♥♠♣♦━━━━━┑
You came back home from your errands trip and brought bagels for the two hungover disasters you call your roommates. You walked back in and saw Wanda and Nat under the pink fur blanket watching the whale documentary you were watching last night. “My baby is back,” Wanda said excitedly.
“I bring bagels, because bagels make us happy when we are hungover.” You said placing the bag on the table, “Two rainbow bagels with strawberry cream cheese. Two poppy seed bagels with tuna salad on both.” You said handing each of them their own bagels.
You grabbed your own two before plopping next to them, “If barista boy doesn’t domesticate you, I will.” Nat said.
You laughed before you felt your phone buzz in your pocket, you got a message from Steve asking about the bagel place you usually get your stuff from. “Who’s Steve?” Wanda asked.
“New mans?” Nat exclaimed.
“You’re replacing barista boy before you could even dick him down?” Wanda cried out.
“No, Jesus. I haven’t even met Steve-” Wrong phrasing you used there.
“You’re back on tinder?” Wanda asked, “I thought we were doing it together.”
“No, he accidentally called me last night and we talked for an hour.” You said nonchalantly taking a bite out of your bagel.
“A threesome with barista boy and Steve? Wow someone’s getting some,” Nat said, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Jesus Christ Nat.”
┍━━━━━♥♠♣♦━━━━━┑
As per usual, you made your way into the cafe getting coffee before your shift. Noticing the barista, you again missed the gleam in his eyes when he saw you. He mustered up the courage, “Hey, how are you?”
“I’m good, how are you?”
“I’m doing good,” You smiled.
Steve felt his knees weaken at your smile, “The usual?”
“The usual,” you said, paying and going to message the roommate group chat about the tight light blue shirt barista boy was wearing today.
“Alright, here you go.” He said sliding you the coffee and a straw.
“Thank you, have a good day,” you said before slipping out of the shop and heading to work.
“So you took the girls advice and asked her about her day, look at you making big moves.” Bucky nudged Steve.
“One step at a time Buck,” he said, going to clean up his station.
“Hey, you better have not given her another free coffee,” Bucky called out.
┍━━━━━♥♠♣♦━━━━━┑
After several weeks of messaging Steve, you learned he also attended NYU and both of you worked around your schedules, trying to meet up. The two of you finally decided to meet on campus. You picked a morning where you, Nat and Wanda had a two hour gap just in case something happened and he was in fact a 50 year old pervert with a thing for third year students.
You: hey i’m in the student centre
Steve: Hey, I’m sitting, I’m wearing a black jacket and a white t-shirt
You looked up and almost screamed, as if the gods were playing a joke on you. It was your cute barista boy. Okay, being rational, he could happen to be here at the same time, wearing the same out- nope, no way. “Steve?” You asked, approaching the table.
Looking up from his phone, he was shocked as well, “H-hi,” he stuttered out.
“Can I sit?” You asked.
“Of course.”
“So I guess you were helping me, try and talk to you,” he finally spoke out.
“Wait, what?” You asked, confused.
“The girl I was messaging you about, was you,” he sheepishly said.
You didn’t know how to respond, “Really?”
“Yeah, if you don’t feel the same that’s okay.” Steve said looking down at his fingers.
You took his hand in yours, “No, I like you too.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, Nat keeps trying to get me to ask you out. But I kept talking myself out of it.” You said.
“How about I treat you to the finest thing this campus has to offer and we can talk about how we both are idiots,” he offered.
“It better be the Wendy’s,” you joked.
“Only the finest for the finest,” he winked at you, resulting in the blush staining your cheeks. He stood up and put his hand out, upon standing up you took his hand and was about to exit the student centre.
You heard Nat speak loudly to Wanda, “She’s getting dick, I’m so proud of her.” You wanted the ground to create a blackhole and swallow you whole.
Until you heard another voice, “BuckBuck! Our baby Steve is all grown up and getting pussy.”
You looked to see Steve blushing, turning back and flipping him off, “Fuck off Sam.”
Of course, both of your roommates were the worst.

Eren x Aimee Modern AU: Snowy Romance
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Eren's eyes followed the dark-haired girl in his chemistry class. He wasn't paying attention to anything the professor was saying, as he was too distracted by Aimee.
He knew Aimee since his freshmen year of college, she was in his Biology class the year before, and he was her lab partner. She absolutely blew him away, with her long dark hair, to her tan skin, and lovely eyes. Eren fell hard for her. She was very closed off to him, he tried speaking with her, but she barely spoke many words, and never said much about herself.
The two became pretty good friends in his bio class, but once summer came the two pretty much stopped speaking. Eren was a bit disappointed that things went that way, he wanted to see her more.
When Eren saw her in his chemistry class, he was ecstatic. He felt as if it was a new opportunity for them to become close again.
"Eren! Come on dude, we have to finish lab" Armin said and slapped his arm.
Eren shook his head and broke out of his thoughts. "S-Sorry! I zoned out" he said and looked on his laptop.
His friend looked towards him. "You've done that about three times, and I know why you keep zoning out. Just say you like her and get it over with" he said and crossed his arms.
He felt a blush rush onto his cheeks thinking about Aimee. "Can you not say that so loud?! Jeez dude... and I will ask, just not right now" he replied and ran a hand through his now grown out hair.
Armin nodded. "You realize you don't have much time? The semester ends soon and you won't see her for awhile" he said and placed his pen down. "I suggest you get it done soon" he added.
That thought alone made him feel queasy, he would have to confess soon, or lose the opportunity. It's not like the two will end up in another class again like this, so he had to do it either way. Eren had to man up and finally tell Aimee how he felt.
"Fine, I'll do it.. but I just don't know how" Eren said and looked at Armin.
The blonde looked at him. "Plan a little date, take her to that coffee shop near campus. Maybe go for a nice walk, the shops near town have nice lights" he said and smiled a bit.
He nodded. "Sounds like a good idea, I'll have to ask soon" he said and looked at his laptop.
The professor looked around at the class. "Class is dismissed for today! Remember, your labs are due on Friday! This is a grade, so please do your best!" he said.
Eren placed his stuff in his backpack and looked over as he saw Aimee exiting the classroom, he followed after her to go talk to her.
"Aimee!" Eren called and tapped her shoulder.
She turned back and looked around. "What's up Eren? Do you need help with the lab or something?" she asked.
He sighed and felt his heart beginning to race. "N-No, actually, I was wondering if um.. you wanted to hangout tomorrow? Go for some coffee or something? O-Only if you want to" he said and looked at her.
Aimee felt heat rush onto her cheeks, she always found Eren to be quite cute. "U-Um.. sure! I'm down to go, what time?" she asked.
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Maybe around 6 or 7? I can pick you up" he replied.
She nodded. "S-Sure! That'd be great.." she said and laughed a bit.
He smiled and looked down at her. "Cool, I'll see you then. Have a good night, okay?" he said and blushed a bit.
Aimee blushed. "Thank you, you too Eren" she said and began to walk back to her dorm.
Eren smiled to himself as he began to make his way back to his dorm, he was so excited to go on that date with her. He was a bit nervous though, considering that he's never been on a date before, but he'll probably make it through. Just don't be awkward.
Eren opened the door to his dorm and saw Armin sitting on his bed. "Hey, how did it go? Did she say yes?" he asked.
He smiled. "She said yes!" he replied and smiled excitedly at his friend.
Armin nodded. "Wow! Dude that's great, you really got lucky" he said and patted his back.
Eren placed his stuff onto his side of the bed. "Yes I did, but I just feel nervous. I hope she doesn't deny me at all" he said and leaned back against the wall.
Armin looked over at him. "If she does that's okay, there's other fish in the sea" he replied.
Eren smiled to himself thinking of Aimee. "Yeah there is but... no one like her" he said and looked down.
Armin couldn't help but smile at what Eren said, he knew he always cared for Aimee, even if they weren't extremely close.
"You got this Eren... I believe in you" he said and looked down on his phone.
Eren smiled. "Yeah I do, I'll do it" he replied and sat up.
The rest of the day seemed to fly by for both Eren and Aimee, it was already the next day. Eren didn't have any classes for the day, but Aimee had a class. She told Eren to pick her up there, since she didn't think she would go back to her dorm before the date.
Aimee was nervous herself, she was always fond of the brunette boy. He was cute and she always felt her heart flutter whenever his teal eyes looked her way, it made her soft. She practically ranted to her roommate the whole night about how nervous she was.
Class seemed to fly by and within minutes the professor ended class. "See you all tomorrow" he said and waved.
Aimee stood up and texted Eren, letting him know that her class was over. Eren was in the parking lot waiting for her in his car, it was dark since the sun set so early in the winter. The chilly air hit his skin as he got out to wait for her, his long hair tied back in a bun, and cologne came off his clothes.
Aimee exited the building and searched for Eren's car. "Aimee!" he called as he waved his hand for her.
She made her way to his car and shivered a bit as the cold air surrounded her. "H-Hey" she said and looked up at him.
He smiled. "Hey.. wanna hop in?" he asked and nodded.
She shivered. "Y-Yeah! It's freezing" she replied and went to enter his car.
The two both got inside of his car and he turned it on to start up the heat. "I think it's gonna snow tonight too, so that'll be fun" he said sarcastically as he put on his seatbelt.
Aimee nodded and put on her own seatbelt. "That's great" she replied and laughed a bit.
Eren couldn't help but admire her beauty as she sat in his car. She was truly so beautiful to him, he was so tempted to kiss her right then and there, but he had to hold back.
"How was class?" Eren asked and looked over at her.
She sighed. "Okay I guess.. it was boring" she replied and nodded.
Eren nodded and began to drive his car to the cafe, the ride there wasn't very awkward. Aimee felt nervous being so close to Eren, the two never really spent time alone together, she didn't want to make things weird or awkward.
"We're here" he said and broke her out of her thoughts.
She looked around outside, the lights lined the streets as people walked by with shopping bags or coffees. She smiled at the night, she got out of the car with Eren and waited for him to come by her side.
"Let's go in" he said and smiled a bit.
Aimee followed Eren as he held the door open for her. She walked inside the cafe and the smell of coffee filled her into her nose, the warmth and vibe from the place made her feel cozy.
Eren and Aimee sat down at a table. "This is nice" she said and smiled a bit.
Eren nodded. "Yeah it is.. I found this place awhile back, I came here sometimes when I was a freshman" he said and looked around.
She couldn't help but feel really bashful around Eren, there was something about him that made her feel warm and fuzzy.
"So um.. how are your classes?" she asked trying to make it less awkward.
He sighed. "They're okay... I'm just trying my best to make it through the semester" he replied and shrugged.
She looked at the table. "Yeah same" she said and looked back up at him.
Eren smiled a bit. "You look really great by the way" he said and eyed her.
Aimee felt a blush paint across her cheeks. "O-Oh! Thank you Eren.. you look good yourself" she said and laughed nervously.
He stood up. "Want anything? I'm gonna go get a coffee, I'll pay" he asked.
She thought for a moment. "Uh.. just get me a coffee too" she replied and blinked.
Eren laughed a bit. "Alright.. be right back" he said and walked over to the counter to get their drinks.
Aimee rubbed her hands together as she looked around the cafe, she was pretty nervous still. Her roommate told her to not worry, but this was kind of her first date, and it was with EREN out of all people. This boy did things that made her have butterflies.
She looked up and saw Eren coming over with their coffees. "Here you go" he said and smiled.
She took the warm coffee from his hands. "Thank you Eren.." she said and looked at the cup of hot liquid.
He smiled. "No problem.. so I remember you told me you like to draw?" he asked and nodded.
Aimee looked up a bit, she felt her stomach swarm with butterflies realizing that he still remembered everything about her. She always assumed Eren would forget silly details, but he didn't.
"O-Oh, yeah! I don't draw as often anymore. I'm more into writing" she said and smiled a bit.
He nodded and leaned back in his chair. "That's really cool, I wish I could write. You seem really talented" he said.
She blushed at his words. "Eh.. it's okay I guess, sometimes it can be really shitty. Like our chem professor" she said and laughed a bit.
Eren chuckled. "Yeah for real, he can be such an ass. I don't even know why I stuck around in his class, he makes me bored" he said.
Aimee nodded. "Literally! I wish I never chose it" she replied and sipped a bit of her coffee.
He looked on his phone to check his phone. "Hey.. do you wanna go walk around outside? Maybe go to the other shops?" he asked.
She looked up. "Sure! Let's go" she replied and put her coat back on.
Eren stood up and waited for Aimee to finish putting her coat on, the two left the cafe. The snow began to fall, it blanketed the street like a sheet and it fell down from the sky and landed softly onto the ground. The lights making the snow look like tiny crystals on the ground.
Aimee looked around and smiled. "Wow... it looks so lovely" she said looked at Eren.
He nodded. "Yeah.. come on, let's go" he said and held his hand out to her. "It's a bit icy.. don't want you to trip" he added and smiled.
She blushed and placed her hand into his, Eren's hands were so warm. She smiled as he guided her down the street, the two looked at the different shops and stores that were lined along the streets.
Aimee stood in front of a store that had a pretty dress in the front of it. "That looks pretty" she said and admired it.
Eren nodded. "It would look even prettier on you" he said and smiled at her.
She looked at him and felt her heart flutter, and a blush to paint over her cheeks. "No way! I could never rock that" she said and rolled her eyes playfully.
Eren chuckled. "Yes way! You look good in anything Aimee... I mean that" he said and looked into her brown eyes.
She smiled at him. "Really?" she asked and nodded.
He smiled. "Yes really... I actually have something to tell you" he said and blushed a bit.
Aimee felt her heart beginning to race. "And that is?" she asked.
Eren sighed and took a deep breath. "Aimee.. I-I.. I like you a lot, like a lot. Ever since we met in bio, you always were amazing to me. You are such a sweet girl and I didn't want the opportunity to tell you slip away, so yeah.. I like you" he replied and held her hand.
Aimee felt butterflies form into her stomach, she noticed as the snow began to fall in his hair which made him even more handsome.
"Eren... I like you too, for a pretty long time as well" she said and smiled at him.
Eren stood there and smiled at her. "Really?" he asked and nodded.
She laughed. "Yes! I do.." she replied.
He felt his heart begin to race and he felt so happy, he never thought she would feel the same. The two hadn't really talked much, so he thought she would just say no.
Eren couldn't help but admire the scene in front of him, she looked even more beautiful as the snow fell around them.
"Do you wanna get out of here? We can go back to my dorm if you want" he asked and nodded.
Aimee smiled. "I'd love to" she replied and looked into his eyes.
Eren took her hand in his and guided her back to his car, the two spent the rest of the night in Eren's dorm talking and cuddling with each other. A few kisses were also exchanged too.
"Hey Eren.." Aimee said and looked at Eren.
He nodded. "What's up?" he asked and looked down at her.
She smiled. "Thank you.. for tonight, it meant a lot to me" she replied and kissed his cheek.
Eren smiled and ran his hands through her hair. "Of course Aimee... it meant a lot to me too" he said and kissed her head.
"Now can we cuddle more? It's really cold" she asked and laughed a bit.
He chuckled. "Alright... come here" he replied and opened his arms for her.

kissing by the book
yeo one (changgu) x female! reader
high school! au (non idol) || 8.8k (I went a little crazy whoops)
super fluffy + some suggestive themes I guess (basically changgu in something rotten has ruined my life and I felt the need to write about it) (like,,, look at him!!)
summary: you’ve been happily crushing on changgu from a distance for the past year, but when you get cast as romeo and juliet in your school’s spring play, it suddenly hits you how much you actually like him - oh, and you have to kiss him multiple times, so that’s fun too
You can’t stop staring at the clock. The cast list is being released today, but you have no idea when. You checked outside the drama room as soon as you got to school, then again at lunch, but there was nothing. Now you’re dying for the bell to ring so you can check again.
Finally, you’re free to leave your stupid last period chemistry class. You grab your bag, and run out of the room without saying bye to your friends. It takes less than 2 minutes to run across the parking lot to the other building. When you get there, no one else is around. Thank god.
You hold your breath as you walk up to the drama room door. Your name better be at the top or else you’ll start a riot. You’ve spent the last 3 years playing supporting roles (some of them being male roles as well). This is your senior year, and if you’re not the female lead after all of this, you’ll be absolutely crushed.
The list is there. You immediately scan it for your name, ignoring everyone else. You find yourself on the second row, cast as Juliet. All your friends’ names are there too, cast as side characters. When you finally look at the first row, your heart almost stops.
Romeo........................... Yeo Changgu
===
You met Changgu at some point last year, when your school did Twelfth Night. Technically, you knew him before, as you’re the same age, and he’s been in some of your classes, but you’d never actually spoken to him. He’d never taken a drama class, and he’d never been to a drama club meeting, so it seemed odd that he’d been cast as Sebastian.
After a few weeks of rehearsal, you understood why. In addition to being a great actor, he was extremely friendly. He worked insanely hard to memorize his lines and was off book earlier than everyone else. Like you, he showed up to rehearsal 10 minutes early whenever possible.
When you realized this, you started showing up later so you could avoid him. Although he was nice, he made you incredibly nervous. At first you thought it was because he was popular, but you soon came to realize it was because your idiotic self had a crush on him. Every interaction involved you forgetting how to speak. It’s like you lost all your brain cells every time you were in his presence. To be fair, you didn’t have many to begin with.
Plus, everyone knows you should never date a cast mate. Not that you’d date him. Because he’d never be into you, right?
===
“Wait, y/n, does that mean you have to kiss him?”
“Oh my god, please stop.” You’re in your room, on FaceTime with your best friend. You haven’t even thought about that. You’re too concerned about having to speak to Changgu, never mind touching him- that’s too much for you to handle.
“I’m just saying,” your friend takes a sip of her bubble tea, “remember the play y’all did 2 years ago where there was a kiss?” You were shocked the two students playing the leads agreed to actually do it, but then again, you’ve never kissed anyone, so what do you know?
“I’m sure there are ways to fake it, or we can avoid it somehow.” You prop your phone up on your desk so you can go find your copy of Romeo and Juliet and look for any potential make out scenes.
“...... do you want to avoid it?”
“No,” you say without thinking.
“I knew you still had a crush on him. I should have joined drama club so I could see this all play out.” You roll your eyes and grab the book off your shelf. “I see the way you look at him.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
You friend puts her hand under her chin and stares off into the distance, imitating you. “Oh Changgu-”
“I’m gonna hang up on you,” you tell her, picking up your phone again.
“Wait no!” You end the call, but text her right away, saying your mum called you down for dinner. It’s a lie, but a believable one. You just need a minute to yourself to think about this.
It’s really not a big deal. A kiss is just a kiss. There’s a possibility Changgu might not even want to kiss you in the first place. You wouldn’t blame him. There’s no point in getting worked up about it just yet.
But still, you flip through your copy of the play, flagging down all the potential kiss scenes. When you’re about halfway through, your phone lights up. You’ve got a new email from your director.
Your first script reading is at the end of this week, which is good with you. That gives you enough time to read the play again and start thinking about your character.
Then your phone lights up again. It’s another email from your director, but it’s only addressed to two people.
Hey y/n and Changgu,
Congrats on being cast as our leads this semester! I have no doubt you’ll both do amazing.
As you probably already know, there are some kiss scenes in the play. I thought it might be a good idea for the three of us to meet before the script reading to talk about how that will play out.
Ultimately, it’s up to the two of you, so discuss amongst yourselves and then tell me what you think on Friday.
===
Your goal for the next 24 hours is to avoid Changgu and Changgu-related thoughts. You’re not going to look for him to initiate any kind of kissing conversation. He can come to you whenever he wants.
Which happens to be as soon as you get to school the next day. You didn’t expect to see him so early in the morning. The only class you have together is chem so you assumed he would talk to you then, if at all.
“Hey y/n,” he calls from down the hall. You try to smile like a normal person, not someone who was thinking about making out with him all night.
“Hey,” you say awkwardly. You try to focus on stuffing your textbooks into your backpack so you don’t have to make eye contact. “What’s up?”
“Oh,” he smiles, “I just wanted to talk to you about the play.” It might just be your imagination, but he seems as nervous as you.
“Right, congrats on getting the lead role,” you say. “You deserve it.”
“Same to you,” he replies. “It’s about time you were recognized for your talent.” Your brain goes blank for a second. You can’t believe he’s complimenting you. You shake the thought out of your head but you’re pretty sure you’re blushing.
“I appreciate that.”
“So.....” You let him trail off, praying he’ll bring it up so you don’t have to. “About the email we got yesterday....” He looks so stressed out. You bite the bullet and say it yourself.
“The potential kissing thing.”
“Yes!” You frown at him. He seemed way too enthusiastic about that. “I mean, yes, the kiss thing, what are your thoughts on it?”
You take a second to think about it, because you don’t want to seem too eager. But god, for some reason he chooses this exact moment to run a hand through his hair and your poor fragile heart can’t handle that.
“Yes.” It’s his turn to frown. He looks so adorable when he’s confused. He looks adorable all the time. You’re crushing on him way too hard.
“Yes as in....?”
“Yes, I’ll kiss you.”
“Oh.” He seems shocked.
“I mean, unless you don’t want to kiss me, which is totally valid, I completely understand, I won’t be offended.”
He just smiles. “I’m cool with kissing you too.”
“Right, okay, cool, awesome, great.” Your awkwardness makes him laugh, which makes you feel a little bit better.
“Do you want me to reply to that email?” He asks. You nod.
“I’m not good at forming coherent sentences, so I think that’s probably a good idea.” You pick up your backpack. “Good talk.”
“Are you headed to north?” He asks. “I’ve got English over there, I can walk with you.”
“Oh.” You try to act like you’re not internally screaming. “Yeah, sure, of course.” You start to walk towards the stairs, and he follows you.
“You don’t have to be so nervous around me, y/n, it’s not like I’m about to make out with you right now.” You almost trip. “I’m just messing with you,” he says immediately, reaching out a hand to steady you.
“You better be,” you tell him, but you’re smiling.
“This is gonna be a fun semester,” is all he says in return.
===
The meeting with your director only lasts 10 minutes. Changgu’s email was pretty clear, so the two of you don’t have much to say. Your director’s quite shocked you both agreed to kiss for real.
“We talked about it a couple days ago, so we’re all good.” You nod, agreeing with Changgu. You’re glad he’s taken the lead in this conversation.
“Are you sure?” Your director asks. “Last year one of my students said no because she didn’t want her first kiss to be a stage kiss. If that’s how you feel, you can totally say no.”
You know she’s talking to both of you, but she’s only looking at you. You wish you could sink into the floor.
“If either of us change our mind, we’ll talk about it and let you know,” Changgu replies. If you were on your own right now, you’d probably cry out of embarrassment.
But thanks to Changgu, everything is fine. As far as you’re concerned, he doesn’t know you’re a 17 year old loser who hasn’t had her first kiss yet. That’s a win in your books.
“Alright,” is all she says. The two of you are dismissed and you immediately run out into the hallway. Changgu’s close behind.
“You good?”
“Yeah,” you lie.
Thankfully, he changes the subject. You talk about your chemistry class for a while, as you have a test coming up. There’s a practice question he got stuck on, so he asks for your opinion. The two of you sit outside the drama room comparing notes until everyone else shows up.
The next 3 weeks are all about blocking and memorizing lines. Midterms are soon, so everyone is just struggling to get by. Your director doesn’t mention anything about your solo scenes with Changgu. You assume she knows you two are her best actors so she’s not worried. Hopefully she’ll leave it till the last minute so you don’t have to think about it.
As for your relationship with Changgu, you’re much more comfortable around him. The first time you do the party scene and have to waltz with him, you’re incredibly anxious. It turns out Changgu has never waltzed before, so you have to walk him through the steps. Your nervousness fades as you both focus on getting the dance right. When you finally do, he’s so happy, it’s adorable.
After that, you start talking to him more. Because you’re the leads, you’re closer with him than anyone else on the cast. You would call him your friend, but you still have that stupid crush on him. You try to forget about it, but the two of you are spending so much time together. If you’re not acting, you’re helping with other drama related things, like painting sets and finding props.
On one of these days, you’re talking to Changgu about prom. It’s all anyone in your grade is talking about right now. Neither of you have decided if you’re going, even though all your friends are. You’re talking about how expensive the tickets are, when you notice one of your cast mates watching you from a distance. You keep talking to Changgu for a while, before heading off to check your phone.
She walks over to you while you’re texting your mum.
“I saw you and Changgu talking.....” she says awkwardly. You look up and smile. You have no idea where she’s going with this. “Are you two a thing?”
You frown. “Um no, why do you ask?”
“It just seems like you’re really close,” she says. You put your phone away and grab your water bottle. She follows you as you walk back over to Changgu. He’s getting paint to work on one of the backdrops.
“We’re just friends,” you tell her. You know you probably don’t have a chance when it comes to Changgu. If someone else wants to go after him, you won’t stop them. He’s not yours.
“Who’s just friends?” He asks when he sees the two of you walking over. You freeze for a second.
“You and y/n,” your cast mate says. You watch Changgu’s face to see if he’ll have any kind of reaction. He doesn’t.
“Oh, I thought that was common knowledge.” You smirk.
“I was just wondering,” your cast mate shrugs. “You two have chemistry.”
“Fifth period,” you respond awkwardly. She gives you a blank stare but Changgu laughs. You’re thankful he understands your stupid sense of humour.
“Right, I’m gonna go help with props.” Once she’s gone, you take a few sips of your water, not sure what to say now that you and Changgu are alone.
“Do people actually think we’re a couple now?” You keep drinking. “I guess we’re just really good actors.”
“Haha, yeah.” You put your water bottle down and reach for one of the paints. He hands it to you and your hands brush for a second. You jump a little but he just smiles. It’s so annoying he has this effect on you. You’re probably going to forget all your lines after he kisses you. The entire play’s going to fall apart because you’re lowkey falling in love with him.
“I meant to ask you,” Changgu says, breaking your thoughts. “We should run lines together.”
“Don’t we?” During chem sometimes, you’ll sit in the back with him, helping him memorize some of them. It’s easier for him than doing it alone. That’s what he says, anyway.
“I mean we should focus on the scenes between just me and you.” That shocks you. “We don’t have to, I just thought it might be a good idea since we’ll have to start blocking those soon.” He has a point. So far, your director’s only worked on group scenes.
“Yeah, sure,” you tell him. “That makes sense.” It’s just like rehearsal, you tell yourself. It’ll just be you two. Alone.
“Are you free tomorrow? You have 4th period lunch, right?” You nod. “I can meet you outside north and we can sit on the bleachers. It should be quieter out there.”
“Sure, that’s fine.” You don’t really know what to say. It’s just lunch with Changgu. It’s not a date or anything. It’s purely business, nothing else. That’s what you keep telling yourself.
You really wish it was something else though.
===
Changgu: I’m going to run to McDonald’s before we meet up
Changgu: can I get you anything? 😃
You try to discreetly reply to him under your desk. You’re not supposed to be on your phone during data management, but when you saw it light up you had to check.
y/n: if you could get me an iced coffee, I’ll love you forever 🥺
The second after you send it, you realize what you’ve said. Hopefully he won’t think anything of it. You put your phone down and try to focus on your textbook, but it buzzes again.
Changgu: anything for my juliet 😌
Changgu: do you want any food?
This boy is going to ruin your life. You’re sure you’re blushing now, but no one’s paying attention to you, thank god.
y/n: I’m good but I appreciate your kind offer
Changgu: if you say so
Changgu: you can always have some of my fries if you change your mind
“Aw,” you say out loud. Your best friend, sitting next to you, gives you a weird look, but you ignore her.
Changgu: I’ll see you in like half an hour
You send him a thumbs up emoji and put your phone face down on your desk. No Changgu thoughts for the rest of this period.
When class is over, your best friend asks if you’ll have lunch with her. You lie and say you have some English homework to work on in the library. Thankfully she doesn’t question you. You’ll tell her about what happens with Changgu afterwards anyway. You don’t want to make a big deal of it just yet.
When you get to the bleachers, Changgu’s already there, script in hand. He’s got two iced coffees next to him. He hands you one when you sit down.
“Thank you,” you chug about half of it. “I needed that.”
“Clearly.” He takes a sip of his own drink. “How was your morning?” He offers you some fries, so you take a handful.
“It was okay,” you tell him. You’re confused as to why he’s making conversation with you. Your lunch break is only 45 minutes long. You figured he’d just want to rehearse for a while and leave. You won’t complain if he wants to spend all his time with you, you’re just shocked. “How about you?”
“Not too bad.” He hands his script to you. “I think I finally have the last monologue memorized.”
“Let’s hear it then.” You grab a pen out of your backpack.
“Are you gonna take notes?” You nod.
“Don’t you want feedback?”
“Of course,” he says. “You’re just making me nervous.” You laugh at the irony.
“You’ll be fine,” you reassure him. “Go on.”
He runs a hand through his hair and you temporarily lose your focus. When he starts talking, you’re snapped back to reality.
You underline some parts where he should slow down, and star some areas where he needs to work on facial expressions. About halfway through, you put your pen down and just listen to him.
When he notices, he stops. “What happened? Was I that bad?” You shake your head.
“You’re doing great,” you say. “I just like watching you.” He blushes at that.
You read him the last line he did, and he keeps going. He really is a good actor. You already knew that, but sitting here, just the two of you, makes you appreciate his talent even more.
When he gets to the end, he picks up his iced coffee, pretending it’s poison. “Here’s to my love,” he says, taking a sip. You can’t help but laugh. He breaks character and laughs with you. “What are your thoughts?”
“That last bit was amazing, please do that during the real thing.” You glance down at the script and your notes. As you scan the page, you realize he left out the last two lines. Thus with a kiss I die is where your eyes land.
“y/n?” You look back up at him and smile.
“Sorry.” You go through all your comments, making sure to praise him at certain parts too. When his eyes light up, you start to feel nervous again. That monologue was just a reminder that you’ll have to kiss him soon, and that thought alone gives you so much anxiety.
“Your turn,” he says, taking the script from you. “Wait, where’s your copy?”
“Lemme get it.” You open your bag but you can’t stop thinking about the kiss. Once you get the script, you sit back up and face him. He reaches for it but you don’t hand it to him.
“What?” You hesitate for a second. You could just keep running lines with him and try to forget about it. Or you could tell him what’s on your mind so you don’t have to keep worrying about what he’s going to say. “y/n, what’s wrong?”
“Can I tell you something?”
“Anything.” You look into his eyes and he looks so genuinely concerned. Up until now you thought this was just a crush, but in this moment, you’re convinced you’re going to fall in love with him.
You take a deep breath and close your eyes.
“I’ve never kissed anyone before.” You’re scared to look at him. He probably thinks you’re a complete loser. When you open your eyes, he doesn’t look disgusted, which is a good start.
“Okay.” You frown. “What’s wrong with that?” If he was anyone else, you would think they’re teasing you, but you can tell he genuinely doesn’t mind.
“I just thought it might be weird.”
“It’s not weird.” He finishes his iced coffee and puts the empty cup next to his backpack. “I’m just surprised you’re cool with me being your first kiss.”
“Are you joking?” You say without thinking. He looks confused now. Surely he knows you have a crush on him. “You’re so nice, and talented, and thoughtful, and cute, and I’m just really glad to have you as a....“ You hesitate for a second, not sure if you should call him your friend. He doesn’t wait for you to finish your sentence.
“You think I’m cute?” He’s smiling at you.
“Shut up.” You go to hit him with your script, but he grabs your hand before you can.
“I have an idea.”
“I’m sorry, what?” It’s your turn to be confused now.
“Do you want your first kiss to be a stage kiss?” He asks.
“I already told you, I don’t really mind.”
“No,” he says. “I mean, do you want it to be us in front of the entire cast kissing for the first time during rehearsal?”
“What other option is there?”
“I could kiss you now.” You pull your hand away from him. “I’m being serious y/n.” You take a sip of your iced coffee so you can think for a second. “You said you want your first kiss to be me, right?”
“Want isn’t the word I would use but yes, okay.” He smiles at that.
“And we’re going to have to kiss each other quite a lot, yes?”
“Probably.” You’re blushing at this point. You suddenly become aware of how little space there is between the two of you. It would be so easy for him to just lean in-
“So why not get the first time over with?” You gasp, which makes him laugh. “I just mean.....” he trails off.
“You just mean what, Changgu?” You know he’s being considerate and genuine, but there’s still a small part of you that thinks he might be messing with you.
“Can I kiss you?”
You swear your heart almost stops, but you nod anyway, leaning into him. He meets you halfway, and you close your eyes. You’re expecting a split second peck, but he gently presses his lips to yours. It’s clear he doesn’t want to push your boundaries. When you part your lips slightly, he deepens the kiss. That catches you off guard. He must sense it, because he pulls away.
“Was that okay?” He whispers. You can’t stop yourself from grinning. You wish you could kiss him again, right now.
“It was more than okay.” He laughs and kisses your cheek. That surprises you.
“Sorry,” he says. “You’re just really cute.”
“What?” Your eyes go wide. He’s definitely blushing now. This boy just kissed you, on the bleachers, in broad daylight, without second thought. But he’s blushing because he said you’re cute.
He ignores you and glances at his phone. “We have 5 minutes before chem, should we head over?”
“What is happening?” You say quietly. He smirks and puts his script back into his bag. You just sit and watch in shock.
He thinks you’re cute. Yeo Changgu thinks you’re cute. And he kissed you. What the hell?
“Let’s go.” He hands you your pen from earlier.
“Right.” You take it from him and throw it in your bag. You don’t know how you manage to stand up and follow him to class, but somehow, you do.
When you get to your class, he sits with his friends and you find yours. They ask how your lunch break was and where you got off to. You tell them the same lie from earlier.
You can’t stop thinking about Changgu for the rest of the day. You were into him to begin with, but now you’ve definitely fallen. You really hope it’s the same for him.
===
“He kissed you?” You were afraid your best friend would be mad at you for not telling her about your lunch date earlier, but she’s just as confused as you. You called her the second you got home so you two could figure out what the hell Changgu’s thinking.
“Twice.”
“Oh my god y/n, he definitely likes you.”
“What?” You suspect it too, but it’s nice to know she has the same idea.
“He literally asked if he could kiss you, obviously he wanted to.”
“Perhaps you have a point...” You avoid looking at her. “He sent me a text a little while ago.”
“What does it say?”
“I’ll send you a screenshot.” You put the call on hold for a second so you can go to your messages. Your response was kind of lame, and you know she’ll call you out on it, but you send her the picture anyway.
“y/n,” your friend says as soon as you resume the call. “Let me know when you want to rehearse our scenes again, smiley face.”
“He’s just being nice.”
“No he’s not, he’s looking for an excuse to be alone with you again.”
“You honestly think he likes me?” You ask quietly.
“I do.” She looks at the screenshot again. “He was clearly flirting with you earlier as well, anything for my juliet, I get why you’re so into him.”
You roll your eyes. “I really, really like him,” you tell her. “I don’t want to mess this up.”
“Keep doing whatever you’re doing, cause it seems like he’s into it,“ she says. “But you have to make a move at some point.”
“Easier said than done.”
“Don’t be such a wimp.” She says. “You’ve liked him for how long? And we’re graduating soon anyway, if he rejects you, you don’t have to see him again.”
“True,” you say, “but I’m not asking him out anytime soon.”
“Let me know how that works out for you.” You roll your eyes, but you’re grateful she’s willing to give you advice. If you didn’t have her you’d be googling things like how to get someone to fall in love with you, which would just be sad.
You can do this, you tell yourself. Changgu obviously likes you to some extent, all you have to do is make him fall for you and then you’ll be set. You’ve got this.
===
It’s 2 weeks until opening night, and you and Changgu are doing amazing. Since your kiss on the bleachers, you’ve stopped avoiding him all the time. In fact, you’d say you initiate about half of your conversations with him now.
He seems down in rehearsal one day, so you text him when you get home, to make sure everything is okay. He admits he’s not totally confident in his acting skills, especially compared to you. That surprises you, but you tell him that you sometimes feel the same way, but it’s not something to be too worried about. You remind him you’re in this together, which makes him feel significantly better. Before you know it, it’s 3am and you’re both still talking to each other. This becomes your new normal.
You’re seeing Changgu in chem and during rehearsal, but you spend your time coming home thinking about what you could say to him next. Normally by the time you think of something, you already have a message from him. He understands your sense of humour, and before you know it, the two of you have tons of inside jokes. Even if you can’t think of something to say, you’re able to find the perfect meme to send him instead. Your crush on him has grown exponentially in the month and a half you’ve been in this play together. You feel like it might be the same for him.
It seems like other people are picking up on it too. The first time Changgu kisses you in front of everyone, they’re shocked with how comfortable you are with each other. Someone jokes that this probably isn’t the first time you’ve kissed but you both laugh awkwardly and change the subject.
Originally, your director had quite a few kissing scenes, but she decides it’s overkill after a couple of run throughs.
“This is too steamy for Shakespeare,” she tells you one day.
“We’re not making out,” you say, trying not to blush. You and Changgu have probably kissed onstage over 100 times, but it still makes you feel a certain way if you think about it for too long.
“I can feel the passion between the two of you, you may as well be.” You make a shocked face at Changgu, who’s standing a couple metres away, also listening to this conversation. That makes him laugh.
“If you say so.”
She changes some of the scenes to Changgu kissing your hand, or you holding his, just to make it less affectionate. She’s constantly reminding you Romeo and Juliet were children, which makes you both cringe.
You thought your favourite scene would be the one where Romeo and Juliet first meet, but it’s not. You prefer the second act, where Romeo monologues and you sit outside on the balcony. It gives you the wonderful opportunity to sit and listen to Changgu speak. Even if he is acting, you feel like there’s some sort of truth in his words. You got so distracted during the first full run through that you forgot your lines. Someone offstage had to prompt you, which was insanely embarrassing. Thankfully Changgu wasn’t phased, he just went back and started his monologue again. You made an active effort to focus this time, and you were okay after that.
Although Changgu has his lines down perfectly, he still asks you to run them with him during chemistry since the two of you are always done your coursework so early. You’re starting to think your best friend might be right, and that he does just want to spend time with you. After rehearsal one day, you decide to shoot your shot.
“Changgu,” you say, walking over to where he’s putting some props away backstage. “Do you wanna maybe meet up tomorrow and we can like, work on lines or blocking or waltzing or all of the above or something.” It all comes out in a jumbled mess because you’re speaking so fast. You should’ve texted him and asked instead of doing it in person.
“I’m gonna need you to say that again,” he says, with a smile on his face. You take a deep breath.
“I was asking if you want to run lines again tomorrow,” you look into his eyes. “Just me and you.”
You might be imagining it, but it seems like he’s flustered. “Oh, yeah, sure.”
“We don’t have to-”
“No, I want to.” Your heart rate’s definitely gone up now. “Bleachers?”
You shake your head. “Come here,” you gesture around you. “It’ll be empty at lunch.”
“Sure,” he says, glancing at his phone. His smile fades. “I’m so sorry, I gotta go, but I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“For sure,” you say. “See you then.”
===
You get to the theatre before Changgu the next day, which makes you panic for a second. He’s not the kind of guy who would ditch you like that, but you’re still scared. Until you check your phone and see a message saying he’s running a little late.
You take the opportunity to practice some of your monologues alone. You know your lines and you can do them fine when you’re with the rest of the cast, but for some reason, when you’re on your own, your flow gets so messed up. You pace around the stage, saying your lines to yourself, practicing your intonation. Your hand’s moving up and down as you figure out the rise and fall of each sentence.
You’re so caught up in yourself that you’re startled when you notice Changgu sitting in the front row, eating candy.
“Jesus Christ,” you say, jumping off the stage. “How long have you been here?”
“Only a couple of minutes,” he reaches into his bag and pulls out a box of Smarties. You take it from him.
“Let’s go,” you say, after you pop a couple in your mouth. You keep eating them as you walk up the stairs to the stage.
Once you’re both onstage, you run through your major scenes together. You skip over the monologues because you only have about 20 minutes before chemistry.
When Changgu goes in for the kiss during the party scene, you turn your head so he winds up kissing your cheek instead.
“What was that for?” He asks, breaking character. You point at the clock on the wall.
“5 minutes till class.” You head over to the stairs at the side of the stage so you can get your backpack, but Changgu grabs your hand.
“Wait.” You turn around and hold his gaze. “Skip chem and stay here.” You’ve held his hand so many times over the past month, you interlock your fingers without second thought. It’s just a habit at this point.
“What?” You’re surprised he’s willing to skip class just to stay with you a little longer. You’re more than happy to, but you just need a moment for this to sink in.
“We don’t have a test, we aren’t going to miss anything important,” he says. “Even if we do, we’re the smartest people in that class, we’ll be fine.”
“You’re not wrong.”
“So stay with me a little bit longer.” You nod, because you don’t trust yourself to form a coherent sentence right now.
You follow him to the centre of the stage, where he just sits down on the floor. You don’t question it and sit down next to him, facing the empty auditorium. You can’t believe this is your last time performing on this stage.
“What are you thinking about?” Changgu asks. He’s still holding your hand, and he kisses the back of it. You’re so thrown off by how affectionate he’s being right now. But you aren’t complaining. “You seem like you’re deep in thought.”
“I just can’t believe this is my last show here,” you reply. “I’ve spent four years on this stage, it feels weird having to leave.”
“You’re going out on a good note,” he says. You nod in agreement.
“I’m excited,” you tell him. “Opening night is always fun.”
“Is it?” He doesn’t seem too sure. “I find it more nerve wracking than anything.”
You gasp. “Don’t tell me Yeo Changgu gets stage fright.”
“I don’t,” he says immediately. “I just don’t want to disappoint anyone, you know?”
“You don’t, and you won’t.” You bump your shoulder against his. “Everyone loves you.”
“Do you love me?” You can’t tell if he’s joking. You decide to answer honestly.
“I definitely like you, if that counts for anything.”
“It counts for a lot.” He pulls his hand away from yours and you let out a small gasp, sad he’s moving away. He laughs at that but turns around. When Changgu lies down with his head in your lap, you’re even more caught off guard. You don’t know what he’s playing at anymore, but this almost feels natural for the two of you. You’re not uncomfortable, just surprised.
“Is this okay?” He asks. When you say yes, he smiles. “So tell me more y/n, what’s this about liking me?”
You roll your eyes. “I wish I never said anything.”
“No, you don’t.” You look down at him. You’re about 80% sure he likes you back. All the late night texts, and inside jokes, and the way he’s looking at you right now makes it seem like he does anyway.
“No, I don’t.”
“Good.”
“Is it?” You frown.
“Yeah,” he says. “Cause I like you too.”
“Don’t play with me.”
“I’m not!” He says right away. “I swear I’m being serious.” He seems genuinely concerned that you don’t believe him, which is incredibly cute.
“Tell me more then, when did you know?”
“Second rehearsal, I think. I mean I’ve kind of liked you since Twelfth Night, but recently I’ve been like really crushing on you.” You’re surprised at how quickly he answers. “Right before second rehearsal, you were just outside here, running lines like you were earlier today.”
“What’s so special about that?” You absentmindedly start playing with his hair, which makes him jump. You move your hand away as quickly as possible.
“No, it’s okay,” he says quietly. You run your fingers through his hair again, slowly this time. The sigh he lets out has your mind wandering to dangerous places.
“Anyway,” he breaks your thoughts. “You know that thing you do with your hand, while you’re speaking, to try and get the flow of your speech right?”
“Uh, yeah.” You don’t know where he’s going with this.
“You kind of look like you’re conducting an orchestra or something.” You still don’t understand what about that makes him like you. When you look down and make eye contact with him again, he’s smiling up at you in such a cute way that you have to look away immediately. You’re scared you might do something dumb, like kiss him. Which wouldn’t really work in this scenario anyway since you’d have to bend down weirdly, it’s just not worth it. You keep playing with his hair instead. “And when you get a line wrong, you don’t get flustered the way I do. You just laugh and move on.”
“Well, yeah,” you shrug, “what’s the point in getting upset?”
“I wish I had that sort of mindset. Do you know how great you are, y/n?” You can’t help blushing at that. “And you’re ridiculously cute.”
“Says you,” you mutter. He sits up and turns around so he can face you. “What are you doing?” He’s so close to you, it makes you slightly anxious.
“I just want to look at you,” he says. His eyes are completely focused on yours but you’re not scared. You just don’t know what to say. So naturally you wind up saying something stupid.
“Shut up.” He doesn’t even blink.
“Make me.”
You know he wants to kiss you, and you definitely want to kiss him, but you’re still hesitant. You lean into him slightly, letting him make the next move. He gives you a quick kiss and then pulls away. But then he does it again, and again. You keep waiting for him to kiss you properly, but he won’t stop teasing you.
“Changgu,” you whine after he pulls away for the 5th time.
“What?” He laughs. You grab the collar of his shirt and pull him closer to you. He’s surprised at first, but then his arm’s around you and you melt into his touch.
You give him a light kiss, and finally, he gives you want you want. His other hand makes its way into your hair to hold you in place as he deepens the kiss. Your heart is pounding out of your chest as he places kisses along your jaw and down your neck. You can’t help but let out a small moan. He pulls back for a second, looking shocked.
“Sorry,” you say awkwardly. He smirks.
“Don’t be sorry,” he whispers. When he kisses you again, you smile.
You have no idea how much time has gone by when you two finally separate. He rests his forehead against yours, while you try to slow your heart rate down. This boy’s going to be the death of you.
“Was that okay?” He asks, quietly. He sounds a little scared, like he doesn’t want to push you too far. You appreciate that more than he could know.
“So good,” you murmur, opening your eyes. You give him another quick kiss before you sit back, putting some space between the two of you. Otherwise, you won’t let go of him. He doesn’t seem to care, grabbing your hand and pulling you closer the second you move away.
“Thank god,” he says. You take his hand and place it flat against your chest so he can feel how fast your heart is beating.
“You’re not good for my health,” you tell him. He just smiles and moves your hand to his chest. His heart’s beating just as fast as yours.
“The feeling’s mutual.” You laugh at that.
“You have to be careful though,” you tell him, “you can’t start kissing me like that onstage. I’ll forget all my lines.”
He smirks. “Don’t worry, I’ll save it for when we’re alone.” Your jaw drops. “Do I really make you that flustered?” You nod, as his hand finds it’s way into your hair again.
“It’s not my fault,” you reply, avoiding eye contact, “you’re the one who doesn’t kiss by the book, Romeo.”
“I’m not Romeo right now,” he says, quietly, turning your head to look at him. “I’m Changgu, and I’m absolutely crazy about you.”
“I feel like this is fever dream.” He laughs at that.
“Why?”
“I like you so, so, so much,” you tell him. “I have for a long time.”
“Sorry it took me so long to clue in.”
“Damn right, you should be sorry.” You both laugh at that.
Suddenly, the bell rings and you jump away from each other. When you glance at the clock, you notice it’s only 5 more minutes until rehearsal starts.
“We need to get ourselves together,” you say, getting up. You pull Changgu up with you and head towards your backpacks.
“Don’t you think you should let go of my hand?” He asks. You let go of him immediately, not sure what that means. “I just don’t want to be awkward in front of other people.” He says, running a hand through his hair. You just nod because he kind of has a point. You can’t think about it too much right now, you need to focus on the play.
While you’re getting your script out and fixing your hair, everyone else shows up. You all go through the play start to finish one time, and it’s close to perfect. When you’re finished, everyone sits in a circle onstage. You wind up next to Changgu, of course.
Your director gives out notes while you try to forget you were making out with him in the same spot just a while ago. You nervously fidget with your hair, which winds up in you accidentally touching your neck, and then you start thinking about Changgu’s lips there-
“y/n,” his voice says from next to you. Your eyes snap open, you hadn’t even realized you closed them.
“What?” You give him a dirty look. Does he know you got distracted because of him?
“Did you hear that?” He points to your director, who’s looking at you expectantly, just like everyone else in your cast. You try hard not to blush.
“Sorry, could you repeat that?” You punch Changgu in the arm, which just makes him roll his eyes. Your director notices, but she doesn’t say anything.
Once you’re done with that, the entire cast gets lectured on how the next week’s going to go down. All of you are insanely tired already, you’re scared as to what you’ll be like in a couple of days.
When you glance beside you, you notice Changgu yawning. He was taking notes but it seems like he’s given up at this point, throwing his pen and script to the side. You move closer to him, and take them both so you can keep up with everything your director’s saying. You don’t want either of you to miss anything.
He smiles and mouths “thanks” when he notices. You’re writing down final reminders when Changgu’s head winds up on your shoulder. You and your cast mate across the room make eye contact. He frowns at you and you immediately look away, trying to ignore how close Changgu is to you right now.
When you put the pen down, Changgu immediately takes your hand. You don’t fight him, but it makes you smile. You’re definitely going to tease him about this later.
When you’re finally done, Changgu gets up and takes his script back from you. He promises to send you pictures of it later. You’re okay with that because it gives him a reason to keep talking to you.
That night, you’re lying in bed, trying to go to sleep when it hits that you have no idea where you stand with him. Are you a couple now? Are you still friends? You’ve never dated anyone before so you don’t know how this works.
You think about it some more, but you don’t want to get distracted so soon before opening night. You tell yourself you’ll confront him about it after the show’s over. You don’t want to make things complicated now.
===
Opening night is so much better than you could have imagined. The entire cast was perfect, everyone’s performance was amazing, you had so much fun. When the play was over, your family gave you the biggest hugs. They complimented Changgu on his performance too, which made him blush.
The rest of the shows are also great. As much as you enjoy being onstage, the rush of getting ready beforehand is even better. You take it upon yourself to do Changgu’s makeup, which winds up in him flirting with you and you kissing him when no one’s looking just to shut him up.
Your last night is the best night. All of you put so much work into this show, and it truly pays off. When you do your curtain call next to Changgu, neither of you can stop smiling. There’s no way you could’ve done the show without him.
When the curtains close, he pulls you in for a hug. The fact that you’re ending high school with a bang, and you’re in the arms of the boy you’ve had a crush on for so long makes you think you’ve never been so happy in your life.
Once the entire cast has changed back into their day clothes, you pile into your friends’ cars to drive to Pizza Hut. Your director promised to buy you all dinner when you were finally finished the production.
You and Changgu split up and go in different cars. On the way, all your friends ask if you two are dating. You tell them no of course not, but they don’t believe you. It feels nice to have a kind of boyfriend. You still need to figure that out. But for now, you just want to enjoy the night with your friends.
When you get to the restaurant, you all sit down at the biggest table they have. It’s almost 9:30, so it’s pretty empty, thankfully.
The group orders tons of pizza and drinks, and you all reminisce while eating. It’s bittersweet for you. A lot of the younger cast mates tell you how much they’ll miss you and what an awesome job you did. You’d probably cry if you weren’t still wearing your stage makeup.
After you eat, everyone argues over what to get for dessert. You’re sitting back, laughing, when Changgu makes eye contact with you from across the table. He smiles and gestures to his phone. You take yours out of your bag and there’s a text from him.
Changgu: come outside with me
You look back up at him but he’s already standing up and walking towards the door. You tell your friend you’ll be back and follow him.
The air outside is a little cool but it’s a nice feeling after being cramped inside with so many people.
You look to your left and Changgu’s sitting on a bench there. You sit down cross legged, facing him.
“Why did you ask me to come out here?”
“I wanted to be alone with you for a minute.” He absentmindedly takes your hand.
“Well, we’re alone.” You’re starting to get scared now. What if he tells you he doesn’t want a relationship and everything that happened between you two was just for the play? You don’t know what you’ll do if that happens. A chill rushes through you and you shudder.
“Are you cold?” Changgu asks, right away, moving closer to you. You shake your head, but he takes off his jacket and wraps it around your shoulders anyway.
“Why are you being so romantic right now?” You stick your arms through the sleeves. The jacket smells like him, which makes you feel some type of way. You wish you could keep it forever. “You can drop the act, Romeo.”
“I just want everyone inside to know you’re mine.” That takes a second for your brain to process.
“Yours?”
“I mean,” he looks nervous. “If you want to be.”
“Are you dumb?” He looks really scared now, which makes you smile. “Of course I do.”
You wrap your arms around his neck and pull him in for a kiss. You’ve kissed tons of times, but this feels different. Good different. When he pulls away, he kisses your forehead. You can’t stop smiling.
“Wait,” you say, leaning back a little. Your arms are still wrapped around him. He frowns. “Are you my boyfriend now?”
“Um, yes?”
“Oh my god,” you say to yourself. “I can’t believe it.” That makes him laugh.
“My girlfriend’s so cute.” Hearing him say that feels almost euphoric.
“You’re such a dork.”
“I,” he kisses you. “Yeo Changgu,” he kisses you again. “Am all,” another kiss. “Yours.”
You genuinely can’t stop smiling, you don’t even have words. You just look at him in awe.
“Wait,” he says, wiping the side of your mouth with his thumb. “I messed up your lipstick, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine,” you tell him. “It won’t be the last time.” It’s his turn to blush. You pick up your phone to check your reflection. You look fine, thankfully.
“We should go back inside, shouldn’t we?” He asks.
“I don’t want to.”
“Me neither.” That makes you laugh, but you get up anyway.
He takes your hand as you both walk back into the restaurant. No one’s noticed you left, and no one notices when you two sit down beside each other.
You all eat dessert, and then your director makes a nice little speech about how well you all did and how proud she is of you.
She’s sitting down, when you stand up. You don’t even know why. Everyone seems kind of surprised.
“Sorry,” you say. “I wanted to say something too.” You glance at Changgu, who’s smiling at you. He takes your hand, which gives you some courage.
“Go ahead, y/n.”
“As you all know, this is my last show with you. It’s been so exciting, and I can’t think of a better way to end my high school career. Theatre has connected me with so many amazing people,” Changgu squeezes your hand, which flusters you a little bit. “I’m just really grateful to have met you all and I’m going to miss you like hell.”
Everyone claps and raises their glasses for you, which makes you roll your eyes a bit, but you appreciate it anyway. You’re about to sit down when you suddenly remember.
“Wait!” Everyone looks at you again. “One more thing.”
You sit down next to Changgu and pull him in for a kiss in front of everyone. There are some gasps, lots of people saying they knew it, some people clap for the two of you. Changgu kisses your cheek before the two of you let go of each other.
“We saw you making out outside earlier,” someone next to you says. You and Changgu both make shocked faces at each other.
“We all knew it would happen,” says someone else.
“I’m so confused,” one of the freshman at the other end of the table says. “Changgu and y/n? That makes no sense.”
His friend sitting next to him smacks him, which makes you all laugh.
All in all, everyone’s insanely happy for you, and you’re incredibly thankful.
Although you’re sad your last high school play has come to an end, it’s okay. You made the most of your time, and things ended on an amazing note.
As for Changgu, you know you have so much more to do with him. You’ll go to prom, graduate, spend the entire summer together, go on cute dates, and kiss him again and again and again.
But for now, holding his hand under the table, surrounded by some of your closest friends, laughing and having fun - that’s more than enough for you.

Who needs Tinder when you have Romantic Literature
I have decided to start posting some stuff here too, maybe it will motivate me to write more. Anyways, this is moderately fluffy I’d say. It’s a mortal and college AU. Idk how to introduce this tbh, but please enjoy!
(Also, just throwing this out there because this blog is kinda new, I’m down to write requests too!)
Pairing: Solangelo
Word Count: 3,197
Rated: Teen
You can also read this on AO3!
Will knew she was coming before he saw her, he had heard the door slam and the unmistakable rapid steps. Whenever Charlotte had a new development with the boy in her Romantic Literature class, Will was always the first to know. He sighed, already prepared for the impending word vomit he was going to endure.
"Will!" Charlotte shouted.
Will turned around to smile at her. Don't get him wrong, he and Charlotte were friends, they chatted in class all the time, they studied together, they even sometimes went to parties together, but it was all very superficial. Charlotte had never met his boyfriend or any of his truly close friends, and he hadn't met hers. However, that didn't mean he was exempt from listening to her pine.
"Hey Charlotte," Will grinned, "What's up?"
Charlotte plopped down on the stool next to him and let out an exasperated sigh, "I can't handle it anymore, Will."
Will frowned, his eyebrows furrowing, "What?"
"I can't handle him anymore. He is so fucking pretty that I am going to lose my mind!"
"Charlotte, I'm sure that you'll be okay."
"No, you don't get it. Like he's hot, we knew that, but he is also so pretty. Like, Greek God pretty. It's truly unfair. I don't know how to handle myself," she ranted.
Will chuckled, shaking his head, "You know, you could always talk to him."
Charlotte looked appalled at the suggestion, "Oh no, absolutely not. I'm way too afraid, I've been basically stalking him all semester. Plus, there is no way someone that attractive doesn't have a girlfriend."
"Hey, you never know, maybe just test the waters, you could be surprised," Will said, trying to reassure her.
"Yeah, maybe, or maybe I will be rejected and I will have to drop out to save myself from further embarrassment. I will just pine from afar."
"You know, my boyfriend is in that class, I could ask him and see if he knows anything," Will offered.
Charlotte grinned at him, "Really? That would actually be great. By the way, what's your boyf-"
Charlotte was cut off by the professor entering and starting the lesson. Will glanced at Charlotte, but she waived him off, already dropping the question.
--- Will opened the door to their apartment and let out a sigh of relief. It wasn't a particularly difficult day, but Will hadn't slept much the night before. "Sunshine, you home?" Will called out.
Will heard a response from the kitchen, so he dropped his bag on the floor and kicked off his shoes, making his way into their kitchen.
"Hey darling," Will sighed as he walked up and wrapped his arms around Nico's waist, resting his head on his shoulder.
Nico smiled, tipping his head back to Will as he continued to stir whatever he was cooking on the stove. Will pecked his lips, not wanting to distract Nico, his hunger outweighed his desire to properly kiss him, which is a rare occurrence.
Nico hummed, "How was your day?"
"It was fine, I'm just worn out. Charlotte had another development with her Romantic Lit boy, it was all I heard about during our Chem lab. How about you?"
"Good, I only had the one class today so I spent a lot of time in the studio. Got a lot done, I should be ready for my showcase a few weeks in advance," Nico said.
Will grinned, "That's great! I can't wait to see it, I'm sure it will be incredible."
Nico scoffed, "Will, you've seen my stuff before, I wouldn't call it incredible."
"I disagree, you're only saying that because it's your work. I am, as always, a totally unbiased source who just happens to believe that my boyfriend's art is the best in the world, because it is."
Nico smiled, turning the stove off and moving to face Will. He looked at him, and reached for his face, "You're too nice to me."
Will leaned down, his forehead pressing against Nico's, "Oh darling, I can be way nicer."
Okay, so maybe Will wasn't actually that hungry.
---
Fridays were Will's favorite day. His only class of the day was his Chemistry Lab and that wasn't until noon, which meant that he could lay in bed with Nico until at least eleven. Nico had seemed particularly angelic that morning, with his hair splayed across Will's chest as he used him as a pillow. Maybe he was just extra appreciative because of all the discussion about gorgeous boys.
Having to drag himself from bed this morning was harder than normal, and as he sat at the lab table stool, he was still longing for Nico. He had just settled into his spot when Will heard his name from across the classroom and saw Charlotte walking towards their table. He smiled brightly at her and moved his bag to make space.
"Hey, Will! Did you ask your boyfriend about the Romantic Lit guy?"
"What? Oh! Um, no, I'm sorry, I-" Will paused, blushing brightly, "I got distracted. But I will ask after class today and text you."
"Oh, okay. No worries, I was just wondering. The other day, we were discussing Walt Whitman's poetry, and oh my God, he's literally perfect. He is smart and well spoken, and he's so gorgeous. I seriously don't understand how he is allowed to exist on this planet," Charlotte lamented.
Will chuckled, “I understand, I genuinely cannot comprehend how my boyfriend is allowed to look the way that he does. The struggle of incomprehensible beauty is real.”
“Oh, speaking of! I really want to meet that boyfriend of yours, maybe he will tell me more about himself since you spill so little. My roommate and I are hosting a party this Saturday, you should come and bring him!” she exclaimed.
Will grinned widely at her, “Yeah! I just have to double check with him but that sounds great! I need to get him out of the apartment more anyways.”
“Perfect! Anyways, I had a question about the lab, I screwed up my balancing of the equations somewhere, was the product nitrogen oxide or nitrogen dioxide?"
Will and Charlotte worked throughout the class, working hard to finish the post-lab questions and the write-up, neither wanted to have to work on it over the weekend.
As class ended, they quickly collected any notebooks and papers and walked out of class, desperate for a break. As they stepped into the hallway, Will assured Charlotte he would check with his boyfriend about the part and the Lit boy, and Charlotte smiled brightly in response.
Will pushed open the door to the science building open and stepped into the fresh air. Spring was just starting and trees across campus were blooming, but he didn't stop to admire the beauty or appreciate the warmer weather as he walked briskly towards his apartment. He knew that Nico didn't have any classes today and wasn't planning to go to the studio, which meant it was more than likely he was still in bed and Will would be able to climb right back in and pretend he never left.
As he rushed up the stairs to their apartment and jammed his key in the door, he was already shedding off his bag, coat, and shoes. Normally, he is much more organized, but today he left his pile of things on the floor next to the door as he scurried to the bedroom. Just as he suspected, Nico was still curled up in bed, dozing lightly. Will heard a hum as he padded into the room and Nico stretched out towards him, silently reaching out to him. Will grinned and climbed into their bed, pulling Nico close to him. Nico quickly curled into Will's chest and sighed. The wave of peace that washed over Will was unexpected and he quickly fell asleep.
---
Waking up late in the afternoon, either because of a nap or some really extreme sleeping in, has never really been Will's thing but as he felt Nico tighten his grip on him and seemingly climb even more onto Will, he decided it was okay. No matter how they fell asleep, Will always woke up with Nico on top of him, not that he minded. Will stared at his boyfriend's face resting on his chest, studying the curve of his nose and the shape of his lips. It didn't really matter how long they've been together, he never got tired of looking at him. Will didn't notice Nico's eyes open so when he finally made eye contact, he jumped a little. Nico chuckled, pulling his head back slightly to look at Will.
"You're a dork," Nico said.
Will huffed, feigning offense, "I don't know what you're talking about, I'm cool. I'm a cool cat."
Nico smiled, leaning down and pressing a kiss to Will's jaw lightly and mumbling into his neck, "No actual cool person has ever referred to themselves as a 'Cool Cat'."
"Well, there is a first for everything."
Nico sat up slightly, but not really. He was lying on top of Will so he wasn't ever really able to sit, but he shifted so he was straddling Will's hips, leaning down over him.
"How was class?" He asked as he leaned down to slowly kiss up Will's throat.
Will let out a breath, "Good, by the way, my friend Charlotte, I talked about her yesterday? Well, uh, she uh-" he stuttered as Nico began to bite lightly on his throat, "She's in your Romantic Lit class, um, and has a crush on this guy and she asked me, ugh, to ask you, uh, if you knew who he was? She said that he's super hot," Will stopped talking as Nico suddenly froze his movements.
Nico moved his head up to look at Will sharply "I'm clearly trying to get in your pants right now and you want to talk about other hot guys?"
Will grinned sheepishly, "No! No, no, I just, I don't want to forget! But I'll wait, yeah, I'll just wait. It's fine, but please, get in my pants."
Nico smirked at Will's excuse, but clearly he accepted it as he leaned back down to finally kiss Will on the lips properly. Will reciprocated immediately, moving his hands from Nico's thighs to grab his face. He hummed into Nico's mouth, biting lightly at his lips and Nico sighed. Nico's hands were on Will's shoulders to stabilize himself as Will began to kiss and suck along the edge of Nico's jaw.
"Tesoro," Nico moaned, leaning into Will's touch.
Will smiled through his kisses, nipping at his ear lobe and whispering, "Yes, darling?"
Nico groaned in frustration and grabbed at the hem of Will's shirt, tugging it off. Will stopped to look at Nico, his chest rising rapidly with his erratic breathing, his face flushed. Will always thought that Nico was pretty, but this was hard to beat. Nico, annoyed by the lack of kissing, quickly moved to reconnect their lips, tangling his fingers in Will's hair. He kissed Will, the kiss surely bruising their lips as he worked Will's mouth open. Will couldn't get enough of the feeling of Nico on top of him, of the feeling of Nico kissing him, it was overwhelming. Every time they did this, it was like the first time, except this time Will knew that if he put his hands near Nico's neck he would moan and if he traced his fingers along his torso he would sigh. His favorite part though, was when he would suck hickeys into his neck and Nico would whisper his name like it was the most divine word in the world. Will pulled his lips down Nico's throat and started biting lightly at his collarbones and pulse points.
"Will," Nico sighed, and Will smiled, there it was.
Just as Nico started to work his hands towards Will's belt, Nico' phone rang. Will pulled away and sat up, keeping Nico on his lap and watching as he reached over to grab his phone from the bedside table. Nico groaned as he saw the caller, "Will, I'm so sorry, but it's Hazel."
Nico answered the phone, greeting his sister, and Will dropped his head to rest on the crook of Nico's neck, still nibbling lightly.
Nico let out a squeak, pushing Will's head away lightly, "William," he scolded, "Stop that."
Will grinned at Nico, looking at him playfully as he heard Hazel chuckle over the phone. He leaned against the headboard as Nico talked to his sister about his gallery opening. When their conversation was finally done, Nico tossed the phone to the foot of the bed and wrapped his arms behind Will's head, "Now, where were we?"
Will smiled, "Sorry darling, I'm starving."
Nico rolled his eyes but climbed off of Will's lap and stood up, "You're such a cockblock."
Will laughed as he stood up too, "I'd say your sister is, so don't get mad at me."
"I can be mad at you all I want, first you talk about other guys and now you say you're 'too hungry'" Nico joked.
Will shoved his shoulder as he walked into the kitchen and toward the fridge. Nico hopped onto the counter, watching as Will searched for food. Will pulled out some leftover pasta and decided to microwave it, "So, that possible boy in your Romantic Literature class that Charlotte loves, do you know him?"
Nico shrugged, "I mean, maybe, I don't really pay attention to the other people in that class."
"Charlotte said that he was talking during your Walt Whitman discussion the other day," Will added.
Nico frowned, "I don't know, not many people participated that day, it was mostly me."
"Well, that's okay. I mean, I'm sure she will figure it out. Also, how do you feel about going to a party tomorrow night?" Will asked.
Nico nodded, "That's fine, but can we go separately? I was hoping to be in the studio tomorrow, and I don't want to make you wait for me."
"Yeah, of course, but I don't mind waiting for you, darling," Will reassured.
Nico smiled softly as Will walked to stand between his legs against the counter, "I know, but you don't get to go out often, and I'm not sure how long I'll be."
Will bent down and kissed Nico softly, resting his forehead against Nico's, "I love you."
"I love you too, Tesoro."
-----
Will had been at the party for about 30 minutes when he finally saw Charlotte. He waived at her as he walked up, and she grinned at him.
"Will! I'm so glad you came! Where is that boy of yours?" Charlotte exclaimed.
"He's on his way, he had some work to do before he could come. Also, he has no idea who your Romantic Lit boy is, sorry," Will said, shouting slightly so she could hear him over the music.
"That's okay! I'm hoping he will come tonight, we invited a ton of people and I'm hoping word got around to him," she explained.
Will smiled and continued to chat with her, sipping at his drink every so often. He knows in the back of his mind that Nico should be there soon and he should keep an eye out, but he figured it would be fine. Charlotte suddenly grabbed his arm, and grinned wildly at him.
"Will! He's here! I'm so excited, look," she whispered excitedly.
Will turned his head around and searched the crowd, he didn't see anybody who could be her Lit boy, but he did see Nico approaching and smiled at him, their eyes meeting. Will noticed Nico's shirt, it was Will's favorite button up with sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He liked seeing Nico in his clothes, it gave him a rush of pride.
"Will! He's so cute! And the rolled up dress shirt thing is so hot!" Charlotte said.
Will whipped his head toward Charlotte, confusion etched in his features. Suddenly it hit him. Oh. Oh no.
"Oh my God, Charlotte wait, no-" he started.
It was too late, Nico had already made it all the way over to them and he smiled brightly, his stupid, charming smile. Will felt Charlotte drop her grip on his arm and adjust her shirt.
"Hi! I'm so glad you could come!" Charlotte said, her tone shifting to something far more flirty.
Nico seemed a little shocked by her, "Oh, yeah. Hi. Thanks for inviting us."
Charlotte's brows furrowed, "Us?" she started.
"Hey Tesoro, how was your day?" Nico asked Will, grabbing his hand and intertwining their fingers.
Charlotte's head flicked between Nico and Will.
Will could feel heat rising in his neck as he looked at Charlotte, "Um, it was good. So Charlotte, this is my boyfriend, Nico. Nico, this is Charlotte."
Charlotte was frozen, staring at Will widely as he panicked, terrified that she would freak out. Instead, she finished the rest of her drink in one gulp and then laughed.
"Oh! Really? That's hilarious! We really do have the exact same type!" She said, giggling.
Will seemed a little shocked, he was unsure if this was real or if she was about to start crying.
"Um, what?" Nico asked.
Will, without taking his eyes off Charlotte who was still laughing, explained "So, you know how I was telling you how Charlotte has a giant crush on a boy in her Romantic Literature that you are also in? Well, that boy is you."
Nico looked quickly at Charlotte, "Oh, um, sorry. You're really nice and smart but I'm super gay and very much dating Will."
Charlotte shook her head, "No, really it's fine! I'm just shocked this miscommunication lasted so long! I'm happy for you! You're gorgeous by the way, like truly, ten out of ten. Will, you caught a great one."
Will was still off balance by Charlotte's reaction and her lack of anger or sadness.
"Are you," Will paused, "okay? Do you want us to leave?"
"God no! Really Will, I'm okay. It was just a crush. And I know how you talk about your boyfriend, I would never try and interfere with that," Charlotte reassured, "But, I'm gonna go get another drink. Please stay, though."
Charlotte walked away and Nico turned towards Will. Will looked down at him and smiled lightly, but he still seemed like a deer caught in headlights. Nico grabbed Will's face, "Are you okay?" Nico asked.
Will nodded, "Yeah, this is all just crazy. I've been listening to her talk about that boy for months and turns out that it's you! I'm just not really sure what to do."
"Well, start by taking a deep breath," Nico said, "And then you can start repeating all the things you said about me to Charlotte that made her just laugh about this."
Will seemed to relax even though his cheeks turned bright red, "Hmm, I don't know. Maybe I won't."
Nico grabbed Will's wrist and sorted dragging him to the nearest closet or bathroom or bedroom, "No sir, you owe me for cockblocking me earlier."
Will laughed, "I didn't cockblock, it was an IOU."
Nico smirked, "Well I'd like to cash that in now please."

Missing In Action
I wish she would stop staring at me.
Lucille sat at the Lees’ usual table and apathetically picked through a heaping salad. (Friday was salad bar day, which I appreciated considerably more than the chicken finger obsession that marred Mondays at Calawah University.) Every once in a while, Rami nudged her and Lucille would spear a cherry tomato with her fork and bite it in half with perfectly even, white teeth. But her large blue-green eyes—they reminded me of webs of seaweed tumbling in the cold, frothing La Push waves—always found their way back to me, strangely focused, inquisitive, perhaps accusatory.
Ben probably told them how much he hates me for whatever nebulous reason and now they all hate me too and I’m going to spend the next two years being death-glared by five ridiculously attractive and somewhat incestuous foster kids.
Chemistry was a three times a week class. Ben hadn’t shown on Wednesday, and I was 99% sure he would skip again today. I spotted him around campus periodically, always from a distance: dropping quarters into a vending machine, clandestinely vaping behind dorm buildings (what self-respecting pre-med student VAPES?!!), browsing YouTube videos in the library next to a tower of unopened textbooks, biology and chem and physics and calculus. He wasn’t home, he wasn’t sick; there was no attempt made to construct any sort of pretext. He was patently avoiding me.
I stabbed moodily at the serrated disks of cucumber in my salad. Jessica was blathering away about the latest season of The Bachelor and ranking the contestants’ eyebrows from best to worst. “...Like seriously, has she never heard of microblading?!”
“For real,” Angela offered, not especially invested but forever a good sport.
Lucille’s eyes settled on me again as she sipped a cup of steaming tea, staring until her forehead crinkled with the effort, staring hard, almost leering.
“What’s her problem?” I muttered.
Jessica shot a glance towards the Lee table and slurped her Sprite. The great mystery surrounding her potential Mormon-ness persisted. “Who? Lucy?”
Only Lucille’s friends called her Lucy. Jessica, a shameless aspiring socialite, presumed she was everybody’s friend unless they explicitly informed her otherwise, which of course no one ever did.
“Yeah,” I answered glumly.
“Maybe it’s your dress.”
“My dress? What’s wrong with my dress?”
Jessica wrinkled her nose and surveyed me as if I were a bug, and not a cute bug like a roly-poly bug or The Very Hungry Caterpillar or whatever. Like a really hideous bug. Like one of those spider-cricket hybrid things that hopped straight out of a hell dimension and into the dark, drippy corners of your basement. “It’s, like, very 1960s. But not in a sexy Woodstock way. In a ‘I’m about to join a hippie murder cult’ way.”
“I got it at TJ Maxx. It was on sale.”
Jessica snorted. “Probably for a reason.”
“That’s it. I’m giving all the hippies in my new murder cult your address.”
She and Angela laughed. Mike and Eric, the missing pieces of our daily lunch puzzle, were preoccupied with a campus protest to convert fried fish day (Thursdays) into tacos day. I sympathized with their efforts, but didn’t feel that my one-week tenure as a Calawah University student gave me much right to go around overhauling the dining hall schedule.
“I doubt she’s actually offended by a dress,” Angela said, nibbling on French fries that shed grains of salt like snowflakes.
Jessica sighed dreamily. “But Lucy’s just so fashionable...and that accent...” She drifted off into some daydream which began—I could only assume—with Lucy’s invitation to go shopping together and concluded with marrying Ben on some lush tropical island in the South Pacific.
Lucille was definitely fashionable, especially today: short black dress with sheer sleeves that ran to her fragile wrists, black polka dot tights, black heeled oxfords, dangling ruby earrings like beads of blood. She would have blended in perfectly at Paris Fashion Week. Rami was wearing a cardigan and khakis, per usual; Joe was in dark fitted jeans and a roomy U Chicago hoodie despite the fact that Forks was at minimum a thirty-four hour drive from the Windy City. What did Angela say his major was? Finance? No, Mathematical Economics. So he’s probably aiming at Chicago for an MBA or Econ PhD someday. Angela had told me that Joe was wicked smart. He better be if he’s entertaining fantasies of grad school at the University of Chicago.
Scarlett had come straight from Fencing Club and was wearing bright pink yoga pants and a t-shirt with the sleeves cut out, sprinkling Hot Cheetos into her open mouth, her blonde hair secured in a tight French braid. You know those girls who are so irrationally, gluttonously, unfairly beautiful that it doesn’t seem possible the genetic lottery could spit out so many winning numbers at once, and you comfort yourself with the certainty that there must be some set of circumstances that would level the playing field—I bet she looks like anyone else without all that makeup, she just has a really good sense of style and knows how to maximize her assets, there are definitely some goofy oversized ears hiding beneath that hair and that’s why she always wears it down—and then one day you run into them wearing sweatpants and a ponytail in the tampon aisle at Walmart and they’re still so perfect it stings you, baffles you, makes you feel like there must have been some divergence in the evolutionary chain because there’s no freaking way you’re the same species? Yeah, Scarlett was one of those girls. Scarlett was the queen of those girls.
Ben was conspicuously absent from the table.
Scarlett’s pink leopard-print iPhone rang and she answered. “Hello?” She turned to Joe. “Dad says you left your phone at home. Do you need it?”
Joe was gnawing his way through his third slice of pepperoni pizza. “No, I’m good, thanks though.”
Scarlett relayed the message. “Dad says he’s going to bring it by just in case.”
“Oh my god, ScarJo, I’m fine! Tell him not to!”
“Dad says he doesn’t trust you and he’s going to be here in fifteen minutes. He’s also bringing the Game Theory homework you left by the hot tub.”
Joe groaned and rolled his lively dark eyes as Rami grinned at him; Lucille was still watching me and entirely oblivious.
“Isn’t it weird that Ben and Lucille have accents?” I asked Jessica. “That they’re from the U.K.? I didn’t think fostering kids was an international thing.”
“It’s not that weird. Dr. Lee is British too. Maybe there’s some kind of exchange system, I don’t know. But you know what I do know?”
“What?” Now my interest was piqued.
She smiled. “That the British accents are hot.”
“Ugh,” I exhaled involuntarily.
“Please get a hobby,” Angela begged Jessica. “Start a YouTube channel. Make care packages for orphans. Grow marijuana. Adopt a cat. I have a shift at the animal shelter this Sunday morning, you want to come with me?”
“Sorry, can’t. I have a temple thing.”
Temple on Sunday. The mystery is solved. She’s a Mormon for sure. I mentally resolved not to let her set me up with anyone unless I was still single on Valentine’s Day. Which, obviously, assuming I’m not dead in a ditch somewhere, I will be.
I gathered up my trash and slung my backpack over my shoulder. “Okay, well this has been a bizarre lunch to be completely honest, and now I have to go to Chemistry so I’ll see you later and hopefully we can brainstorm some more alternatives to Jessica’s current life trajectory on Monday. Because I am not looking forward to being a bridesmaid in these impending Lee nuptials.”
“Oh please!” Jessica lamented. “He doesn’t even know I exist. You, on the other hand...”
I scoffed. “Yeah, he wants to kill me. I truly have a gift.”
They waved as I left. I could feel Lucille’s eyes on me until I reached the door.
Sure enough, Ben wasn’t in Chemistry. I tried not to notice. I drew my atoms, wrote my equations, took my notes diligently and in my favorite sky blue ink. But I felt the emptiness in the chair next to me like a black hole, like an immense and dragging weight, like a snag in the fabric of all those interwoven strands of physics that orchestrate the universe like an immortal puppeteer. Why can’t I forget this guy? Why do I still feel like I’ve met him before?
Halfway through class, I hauled my emergency sweatshirt out of my backpack and pulled it on over my dress, floral and flowing and golden yellow like the sun, the sun that never shines here in Forks. I had liked it plenty under the florescent lights of the fitting room at TJ Maxx, and I had still liked it this morning; but Jessica’s words hummed around in my skull like wasps. The zipper of the sweatshirt was broken, but it accomplished the task of obscuring my dress well enough.
After Chemistry, I journeyed to the campus library to find a book I was supposed to read and present for a different class. I looked it up in the computer catalogue, spent an embarrassingly long time trying to figure out how the Dewey Decimal System works, eventually wound up finding the book on the highest floor of the library...and, to add a little extra peril to the mission, on the highest shelf. The book mocked me from its lofty, unattainable stronghold. The title was embossed in gold letters down the crimson spine. The Walruses And Me: A Transformative Experience. Idiotic title, I’m aware. It’s about some marine biologist who spent months alone in the Arctic studying the lifecycles of walruses. A noble pursuit, sure, but still a terrible title.
There wasn’t a chair or stepstool in sight. I tested my weight by stepping up onto the second-lowest shelf. The metal immediately squealed and shifted in protest. I retreated back down to the carpet, defeated by gravity. I scowled up at the book and sighed melodramatically. Ugh.
“Need something?”
I spun around to see Joe in his University of Chicago hoodie and pale flawless skin and intangible magnetism, that bewildering trademark Lee ethereality. I instinctively crossed my arms, clutching the sleeves of my sweatshirt, shrinking inwards like a startled armadillo in the Arizona desert.
“Are you, uh, anemic...?” he ventured.
“Oh no, I’m not cold. I’m just trying to hide my dress. My friend said it was too hippie-murder-cult 1960s.”
I figured he’d laugh, make a snide comment, maybe just blink in confusion. Instead, he glimpsed down at my dress—what could still be seen of it, anyway—and shook his head. “The neckline isn’t right for the 60s. And you seem like you’ve showered at least once in the past two weeks, so definitely not a hippie.”
I smiled, completely unexpectedly. “I didn’t realize Econ majors knew anything about leftist counterculture.”
“Disparaging it is our favorite pastime. Are you trying to get a book or are you just disrespecting university property for entertainment?”
I pointed. “The big red one.”
“The Walruses And Me...?”
“I know, it’s a horrible title. Not my personal preference. It’s for a class.”
“Bestiality 101?”
“Good guess. Marine Mammals.”
“Ahhh.” He glanced up and down the aisle, tapped his chin with agile fingers, pondered something I wasn’t privy to. “Turn around for a second.”
“What? Why?”
He waved his hand mysteriously in front of his grinning face. “It’s a magic trick. I’m going to make your problem disappear.”
“You can’t climb that,” I warned. “You’ll fall and break your neck. Or you’ll knock the whole shelf over and cause a tragic domino effect and the university will withhold your diploma until you pay them restitution.”
“I’m extremely athletic.”
“Are you sure?” I appraised him with exaggerated skepticism for comedic effect. “My dad refers to you only as the spindly annoying Lee.”
Oh my god, WHY did I say that?
Now he would definitely hate me. Now I’d have two mortal enemies on one campus. I mentally calculated how humiliating it would be to transfer to some Florida college, any Florida college, after only one week at Calawah. Hi mom, yeah I’m coming to live with you and Paul, a gang of hot pasty foster kids wants to slaughter me.
Instead, Joe threw back his head and cackled wildly. A librarian—mid-fifties, angry red hair from out of a box, fuzzy cat sweater—glared into the aisle and shushed him.
“Chief Swan...he actually...he calls me that? Really?!” Joe managed, wiping his leaking eyes. “That’s hilarious. I’m so glad my life is in his hands. Okay seriously, turn around.”
“Why would you help me?” I asked suspiciously.
“That’s just what I do. I’m a friendly guy.”
“This friendliness must not run in the family.”
Again, Joe’s cheerful demeanor didn’t falter. “You mean Ben? Forget about Ben, he hates everyone. Don’t take it personally.” Then he added: “Plus, as I’m sure you know, we’re not biologically related. No overlapping genetic material whatsoever. I didn’t get the male supermodel gene, he didn’t get the irresistibly charming gene, life’s not fair but the world keeps spinning.”
“It sure does,” I agreed softly. Unexpected wisdom from my new favorite Lee. I turned away from him. “Fine, I’m not looking, go ahead and dazzle me with your supernatural friendliness—”
“Done.”
“What?” I whirled around. Joe held The Walruses And Me in his hand. “How...did you...?!”
He passed me the book as I sputtered incoherently. “I told you. Magic trick.”
“I don’t....?!” I gawked up at the top shelf, at Joe, back to the top shelf. Sure enough, the space where The Walruses And Me once lived was now just a vacant slit in the row of dusty books. How could he have climbed up there that quickly? How could I not have heard anything? “The shelves didn’t even creak,” I murmured shakily.
“Yes, well, that’s due to my conveniently spindly physique.” Joe winked. “Any other problems I can help you solve at the moment, Baby Swan?”
“No. And don’t call me Baby Swan, or I’ll push this whole bookshelf over and tell the feisty librarian lady you did it.”
“That’s cold, ma’am.”
I liked that Joe didn’t make me feel like Ben did: unworthy, unloved, infuriating. Joe made me feel something else, something lighthearted, casual, buoyant; like the world didn’t have anything in it worth worrying about, regretting, agonizing over. Like unadulteratedly myself was all I ever needed to be.
I heard a muted buzz and Joe slid his iPhone out of his jeans pocket. Dr. Lee must have successfully delivered it. “Whoops, I forgot that Ordinary Differential Equations existed. Got to go. See ya.”
“Bye,” I replied. And then Joseph Lee was gone, very quickly, a little too quickly, the same way that Ben had vanished on that first afternoon after Chemistry.
Forks is weird. Calawah University is weird. And the Lee kids are super fucking weird.
Long Walks On The Beach
“Can I ask you a random question?”
“You just paid me $100 for an oil change that took fifteen minutes. You can ask me anything you want.” He grinned, flashing bright teeth and deep dimples.
It was Saturday afternoon. I had shoveled down a Chipotle veggie bowl as Archer changed the 1999 Accord’s oil in a small garage with a cracked concrete floor and the searing pungency of gasoline fumes thick in the air. He had apprenticed all through high school and rented his own shop after graduation. Archer now had a loyal clientele that encompassed virtually the entire Quileute reservation and a growing chunk of Forks...including Charlie and me, of course. Archer was the only child of Larry Foxchild—Charlie’s best friend since they worked together at Dairy Queen as teenagers—and the closest thing to a son my dad would ever have. I guess that made him like a brother to me, something that seemed intuitive now that I’d thought of it.
After the Accord was serviced we drove it down to La Push to walk on the beach, climb the salt-lashed rocks, toss pebbles into the roiling surf, reprise our childhood enthusiasm for poking dead washed-up marine creatures with shards of driftwood.
“Do you know anything about the Lees?” I asked Archer, investigating a deceased green shore crab.
His brow furrowed. He looked so serious like that, suddenly so much like Larry: the same tan skin, jet black hair, umbral eyes like oil wells, strong jaw overlaid with the stubbled shadow of a beard. We really aren’t kids anymore, are we? “The doctor and his kids?”
“Yeah. The foster kids. They’re really pale and strange and half of them are British.”
Archer chuckled. “I know who you mean. They’re hard to miss.”
“Are they...” Just eccentric rich people? Traumatized from abusive childhoods? Government experiments? CIA agents? Secret murderers? The image of Ben in that first Chemistry class came roaring back to me, including the adjective that had flashed red behind my eyes like an emergency exit sign: fierce. Finally, I decided: “Dangerous?”
Now Archer full-on laughed, gripping his belly, shaking his head. Drops of saltwater flew from his short hair. “Seriously?!” he exclaimed. “Come on, they’re freaks but they’re not, like...that kind of freaks.”
“Are you sure?” I was starting to feel better already. Of course they’re not actual demons, you fucking idiot. This is Washington, not The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror. Not goddamn American Horror Story.
“Yeah.” Archer skipped a grey pebble over the water, something I’d never been able to do. “I’ll be honest, I don’t know them all that well. They usually keep to themselves. But I’ve never heard anything bad about any of the kids. And everyone respects Dr. Lee and appreciates him for taking the pay cut to come to some bumblefuck town like Forks. He’s insanely highly credentialed, has degrees from Harvard or Yale or somewhere like that. Super impressive. We’re lucky to have him. I definitely sleep better at night knowing he’ll be the one to fix me up if I ever get a few fingers ripped off on the job.”
“Don’t even say that. Then who would I grossly overpay for oil changes?”
Archer smiled, then sobered as he peered out over the Pacific Ocean.
“What?” I asked, feeling a plummeting in my guts like primal fear.
“Well...okay, so there is one thing that’s always bothered me. You remember Grandpa Foxchild?”
“Yeah, of course.” He had been an impossibly ancient man with long grey braided hair, a low rumbly voice, gnarled arthritic hands, ceaseless wrinkles. I remembered Charlie calling me when he passed away last spring. Renee and I had picked out a flower arrangement to send to the funeral.
“So,” Archer said slowly, like he was still puzzling it out himself. “Grandpa used to say things like ‘That Dr. Lee has been around a long time.’ Which of course makes no sense, the Lees moved here like two years ago. And I’d tell Grandpa that, but he completely ignored me. He would just keep repeating it. ‘That Dr. Lee shouldn’t still be here.’ ‘That Dr. Lee should go on home to where he came from.’ ‘That Dr. Lee isn’t right.’ Creepy shit like that. My dad and I always assumed it was the dementia talking, but...I don’t know. It just bothered me. Because Grandpa...he wasn’t just being gossipy or suspicious. He was angry. And he was afraid. Grandpa was at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima and he would talk about that no problem, mention landmines or flesh melting off a soldier’s face like it was nothing. He was a tough guy. Immeasurably tough, I’ll never be half the man he was. But if you mentioned the Lees, Grandpa got scared. Why the hell would he be so scared of them?”
I didn’t have an answer for him, not a single word. I just stared at Archer, my eyes growing huge, my heart sprinting, blood pounding in my ears. He knew. Grandpa Foxchild knew there was something off about them, and now I know it too. I don’t know how I know, but I do.
Archer tittered nervously. “Anyway, that was genuinely disturbing. But like I said. It was probably just the dementia.”
“What if it wasn’t?”
“It had to be,” he insisted. “There’s no other logical explanation.”
“I guess,” I agreed, scooping up the green shore crab corpse with my bare hands. I hurled it out into the waves, imagined it sinking through murky water and suspended grains of sand, the body settling into prehistoric silt, the scavengers descending upon it, the inescapable wheel of birth and death and resurrection through those who unwittingly carry our atoms with them into the next generation, into the perpetual future.
That night my dreams were full of pale skin and scorching eyes, Ben and Joe and Rami, Lucille and Scarlett, crashing waves, cold water and bleached bones; and Grandpa Foxchild’s mistrustful refrain: That Dr. Lee has been around a long time.
Benjamin
I soared down the staircase and through the dining room. Gwil was working late at the hospital, Mercy outside tending the animals, everyone else presumably scattered throughout the house. I had to get out before anyone noticed me. I had to get out without Rami or Lucy knowing.
I yanked open the door to the back porch. Rami was waiting there.
“Good evening,” he greeted me in that slow, thoughtful drawl.
“Stay the fuck out of my head.”
“You know how it works, Benny Boy. I can’t ignore the loud thoughts. And you’ve been having some very loud thoughts lately.”
I stared down at my shoes, all black Adidas. Black is good. It doesn’t show stains. For example, purely hypothetically, splatters of human blood and organs. “I can make it quick. I can make it painless.”
Rami’s aura flared maroon; not enraged, no, not quite that, but certainly revolted. I was always finding new and horrifying ways to revolt them, whether I was trying to or not. “She has a family, Ben. A father. You know Chief Swan, you’ve seen him around town. He’s a good person. She’s a good person. You really want to do this? You really want to relapse like this?”
I didn’t reply. I didn’t have to. Hearing thoughts is a tricky thing, and not a gift that I would ever want; unspoken words are rarely a steam and usually a storm, disjointed and twisting, interrupting each other, bottomless layers of whispers and screams. But I was sure Rami could catch the important parts: that I didn’t know the difference between good and bad people, that I didn’t know what to think of people at all, that for me her blood was not a desire but a compulsion. I couldn’t stop envisioning it spilling over my tongue and teeth, down my throat, hot and pulsing erratically and fading. “Why can’t you hear her? Why can’t I see what she’s feeling?”
Rami shrugged, characteristically placid and restrained. It was maddening. “There are seven and a half billion people on this planet. So maybe every once in a while you get one that lives in our blind spots, there’s something chromosomal or psychological that puts them on a different frequency. I don’t know. How the hell should I know? All I know is that you definitely shouldn’t be seriously considering...well. What you’re considering.”
“Have you ever met someone whose thoughts you couldn’t hear before?”
“No,” Rami admitted; and was that a ghost of unease that crossed his face?
“Please, Rami. Let me go. Pretend you never saw me.” My words come out strained, hushed, like a spilled secret, like a confession. I’ve never wanted anyone’s blood like I want hers.
He heard that; I could see the dismay in his eyes. Now his aura is dark grey, almost black. Disappointment. Resignation. Mourning. “I told you what Lucy saw.”
“What she saw is impossible and you know it.”
Again, Rami shrugged. That blind, mindless faith. I wished I knew what it felt like. “She’s never wrong.”
“Have you told him?”
“Who, Joe?! Of course I haven’t told Joe. He...”
“He wouldn’t believe it either?” I snapped, like it was a victory.
“No,” Rami amended carefully. “No, he would believe anything Lucy saw.” Lucy had visions: flashes of the future, the past, the present. They were rare and unpredictable, often fragmented, snapshots rather than arcs. But they were always true. Or, rather, the other Lees claimed they were. The real Lees. “I don’t know what he would do about it,” Rami said finally. “So I’m waiting it out. And killing one of the primary participants is definitely not waiting it out.”
I seethed as I glared at him, hating him in that moment, hating myself only slightly more; and he heard that too. But then that wispy, fleeting haze around him was a pink like the last threads of sunlight sinking into the Western horizon. Forgiveness. Attachment. Love.
“Come with me, Ben,” Rami said gently, opening the door. “Come back inside. You can beat this. You’re better than this. You’re a good soul. You wouldn’t be with us if you weren’t.”
I tried to laugh. It came out like a snarl. “I haven’t had a soul in a long time.”

Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge Day 1 - Frank Iero
Pairing: Frank Iero x Female Reader Rating: Mature (smut) Requested by: @maria-the-ghoul Word Count: 1,450 Author's Note: Maria sent me a request a while back for a Frank story about a reader who hates the snow and Frank making it better. This is also going up today as her birthday was yesterday (whether she admits it or not) and so its also dedicated to her for that occasion as well!
Tumblr media
“What’s on our itinerary for this weekend?” you asked as Frank drove. Between touring to promote Barriers, and getting My Chem back together, you both decided a weekend away was the best idea. You had found the cabin in the Adirondacks, but Frank insisted on creating the itinerary for the trip.
“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” he said, giving you a smirk.
You laughed and watched as the world went by outside the car. The tree branches had gone bare weeks ago, but to your delight, there wasn’t any snow yet. For someone who hated the cold as much as you did, it probably didn’t make sense to still live in the northeast, but you couldn’t bring yourself to leave, and you knew Frank would never leave New Jersey.
After stopping for dinner at a roadside dinner and about an hour of driving later, you pulled up in front of the cabin tucked back in the woods. You both hurried inside to get out of the cold wind that welcomed you when you got out of the car. You set your bags down and walked around the cabin in awe. It was bigger than you expected, but incredibly cozy.
“Ok, now what are we doing first,” you asked turning to find Frank shrugging off his coat.
“I think you know exactly what I wanna do first,” the smirk returning to his face.
“Oh I’m sure I do,” you replied crossing the distance to him and your lips were on his. You draped your arms over his shoulders as you pressed yourself against him. One hand wrapped around to the small of your back as the other came up to run through your hair, giving a small tug that elicited a small moan from your lips. You could feel him smile as he kissed back. After a few minutes of heated kissing in the living room he tapped and you knew that was your signal to hop up and wrap your legs around his waist. He carried you to the bedroom and dropped you onto the plush bed.
Frank pulled off his sweater and tossed it aside. You had been looking at the tattoos that graced his skin for years, but you were never not amazed by them when he got undressed. You scooted back on the bed, tossing your shirt and bra aside as he climbed onto the bed and crawled up your body to reattach his lips to yours.
His hips pinned yours down, both searching for friction as he kissed down your neck, attaching to your favorite spot to leave a deep red mark.
His hands roamed across your chest as you arched into his touch, nails raking up his back.
Jeans and underwear were promptly discarded, as you laid back against the pillows and Frank lined himself up, before pushing into you easily. You moaned as he set the languid pace, savoring how you felt.
"God, you're so good for me, (YN), so good," he purred against your neck.
"Yes Frank, oh fuck," you moaned.
"You want more?" He asked with almost a growl.
You could only respond with a broken moan as he increased his pace and angled his hips up, grinding against your core with each thrust.
"Say you're mine," he mumbled as he left another mark on your neck.
"I'm all yours Frank, fuck, all yours," you moaned.
Hearing those words was all it took to push him over the edge. Feeling that then triggered your own release as you both lay out of breath on the bed.
"I love you so much (YN)," he whispered hoarsely, placing a gentle kiss on your bare shoulder.
"I love you too," you replied, curling against him.
~
The next morning you woke up still curled against Frank under the warm, soft blankets. You were almost certain that if Frank's plans for the whole long weekend were hooking up in the various beds in the house, you would be more than ok with it.
Frank started to stir beside you and you pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Mornin beautiful,” he murmured.
“Morning,” you replied. “What were you thinking we’d do today?”
“Make breakfast and then maybe go for a walk? There’s lots of trails around here,” he suggested.
“Sounds good to me,” you smiled before sitting up and stretching. “Oh, it’s cold, we should build a fire this evening.”
“Good idea,” Frank replied sleepily.
You got up, pulling on the sweater Frank had discarded the night before and made your way into the living room. “Umm Frank…”
“Wha?”
“For that hike today, did you bring snowshoes?”
“What?!”
You heard Frank tossing back the bed sheets and his feet padding out to where you were and he saw what you meant.
“Damn,” he muttered looking at the snow that had already fallen and the big fluffy flakes that continued to fall.
“Looks like we’re stuck here until all the snow blows over.”
“Ugh,” you groaned as you dramatically fell back on the couch. “This sucks.”
“It could be worse,” Frank said turning on the coffee maker.
“Don’t tempt fate babe,” you said joining him in the kitchen and hopping up on the counter. “But this is a beautiful cabin, and even if I hate the snow, it is pretty out there. We should get the guys and their ladies to come back here this summer.”
“That’s a great idea,” he said placing a quick kiss on your lips.
You and Frank made breakfast together and then curled up under blankets on the couch to eat while the snow fell outside. After that you both settled back in with the books you had brought to read.
After a while you got up and started wandering around the house.
"(YN), what are you doing?"
"I'm bored of my book, so I'm trying to see if there's anything else to do here," you said coming down from the loft before heading for a closet near the entryway. "Ah ha!"
"What did you find?"
"There's a deck of cards, that's something to do," you said climbing under the blankets with Frank.
"Hmm, hang on, I'm almost done with this chapter," he replied.
You started to shuffle the cards as you waited for Frank to finish. You watched the snow fall outside and sighed contentedly, happy to be in such a beautiful place with Frank.
"Ok I'm done," he said finally putting his book down. "How about strip poker?" He asked with a devilish grin.
“Fine, but you need to go turn up the heat, it's getting chilly in here and I don't want you to be cold when you lose,” you retorted.
"You wish, gorgeous," he replied as he got up. You watched as he got up and went to the light switch and flipped it, but nothing happened. He flipped the switch a couple more times.
“Shit,” Frank muttered before turning to the thermostat. “Seriously?”
“What?” You asked cautiously.
“The power is out.”
You could help but let out a loud cackling laugh. “How are we so oblivious that we didn't notice that the power went out?!”
Frank started to laugh, shaking his head as he made his way to the fireplace and started to load logs into it. “No idea, but I guess we’re gonna have to sleep out here to stay warm.”
You hummed in agreement. "Yea. Not that I mind, this is the most comfortable couch I’ve ever spent an afternoon on.”
You went back to the bedroom and grabbed the comforter and pillows from the bed and brought them into the living room and snuggled in again while Frank finished getting the fire started and joined you. You curled up against him and he wrapped his arm around your waist.
“Hey (YN)?” He started.
“Hmm?”
“I’m really happy we’re up here together, even if we didn’t get to do the stuff we wanted, and it’s snowing and cold and you hate it,” Frank smiled.
You laughed. “Nowhere else I wanna be.”
“You wanna be by my side forever?” He asked softly.
“Frank,” you started, looking up at him with wide eyes.
You felt him reaching in his pocket and then he pulled out a diamond ring. “(YN), will you marry me?”
You felt your eyes welling up with happy tears as you nodded happily, unable to verbalize a response.
“I love you (YN),” Frank said putting the ring on your finger and pressing a kiss to your lips.
“I love you too Frank,” you finally were able to say before grabbing his face and pulling him in for another kiss. "We get forever."
"We get forever," he murmured, kissing you again.

brain freeze (peter parker x black reader)
brain freeze
peter watched the clock idly as time went by, eyes glued to the ticking hands on the clock. he was leaning against the counter behind the assortment of ice creams that were protected by glass, and waiting boredly for someone to come in.
his shift was over soon and he could leave and go home where ned would be awaiting to build the lego death-star with him. but for now he was at scoops ahoy. he didn’t mind it much, working here - who didn’t want to be surrounded by ice cream and happy people eating ice cream all day long? at least, that was what peter thought. it was good to get a normal job experience and a little cash for himself, and to help aunt may. he could still be a regular teenage boy. still, he was working alone today and it was empty in scoops ahoy.
at least, until you came in.
peter looked up as the door swung open and a girl walked in with her friends, and there she was, shining in all her glory. her friends were pretty but she was the prettiest, and peter stood up tall when he saw her coming forward. you paid no mind to him, engrossed in cheery conversation with your friends, laughing with your mouth open in a smile and then listening to what they had to say, a cool look on your face signaling that you were listening.
the whole group of girls weren’t very occupied with their surroundings and especially not with peter, it was as if he wasn’t even there. when peter’s mind had shut down its repetitive cycle of thinking: “wow, she’s so pretty!” or “i look so stupid just standing here in my uniform … what am i saying, she’s not even looking at me. i wish she would”, he quickly realized the girl.
he knew you as the new girl in town and at midtown high. your name was yn and she was a transfer from a performing arts school in oakland, california where you used to live. how you switched from the arts to tech, peter didn’t know. what he did know was that he missed 90% of the lessons being taught in classes he had with you because he was looking at you, blinded by your beauty. your skin was a chocolate (or dark chocolate) color, blemish-free and radiant, with (insert hair type and color) that complimented your already perfect face. regardless of your height, to peter you stood tall because of your remarkable beauty.
he spent most times during lessons when he had a class with you either staring at your back or peeking over at you from the other side of the room. you were naturally beautiful and for that, naturally popular, but from what peter could see you were also smart and generally nice to everyone, though also cool-headed and much smoother than peter could ever dream to be. where you delivered words with a calm, soft voice and suave smile, peter stuttered and tripped over the simplest of sentences (unless there was discourse on anything sci-fi or old movie pop culture related.)
even so, knowing that you were probably a harmless person and it wouldn’t kill to try to be your friend, peter didn’t have the chest to just walk up to you and start a conversation. the only time you’d spoken was when you had to partner up in chemistry. he vaguely remembered you smiling and saying your name, introducing yourself, and him just nodding and nervously mumbling, “peter”, and then you went their separate ways and split up the experiment. so, it wasn’t much of a first impression if an impression at all.
and now, he was serving you ice cream in the parlor where he worked. and he would have to talk to you, and all your gorgeous friends. and the way he was freezing up now, he wouldn’t try to make conversation with you outside of just taking your order. in fact, he barely even noticed that he was now being waited on, that your friends were staring at him and he was just stuck, his lips slightly parted, eyes glimmering with hope and that giddy anticipation reminiscent of middle school crushes.
“um, hello?” one of them said, a tan girl who peter knew to be named carmella.
he cleared his throat abruptly and tore his eyes away from you, suddenly readying himself at the register and straightening up, and his cheeks were already burning at the awkward moment.
“oh,” peter said. “sorry. uh, welcome to scoops ahoy… ahoy! what would you guys… like to get today?”
peter found his voice trailing off and his eyes traveling back over to yn inadvertently as he tried to compose himself, failing miserably. a concoction of girlish, knowing giggles emerged from your group of friends as they noticed peter glancing over at you and tripping over himself. they laughed innocently, making peter’s face burn even more red and curse his complexion for making his blushing so easy to see.
“um, can i get a butter pecan in a cup, please?” another one of your friends named daya started to order, and they all ordered before yn, peter taking them down and whipping up their orders as usual.
they had all sat down with their ice cream at a table nearby by the time it was your turn to order, and peter’s grew unsteady, his hands getting fidgety, and he was having trouble looking you in the eye.
“hey,” you said, your velvety smooth voice calm and already reassuring. peter looked into your eyes to find them hard, but somehow comforting. you were speaking quieter so your conversation was private and that was apparent too. and now peter was frozen again, it was like you gave him a brain freeze. “don’t pay attention to my friends, they were just giving you a hard time, but they don’t mean any harm.” you laughed slightly and peter’s heart soared - it was like listening to an angel sing while fairies tittered somewhere beyond. “promise.”
peter nodded, his body feeling strangled, and his words coming out in a stammer,
“i-it’s fine, they um… were really nice. no hard times over here.”
you laughed again and it became apparent to peter that you were laughing at him, though not in a mean-spirited way, but because you found him funny, and that was good. he didn’t know how to talk to pretty girls but at least he knew that much.
“you sure?” you asked, and peter nodded quickly,
    “uh huh. hundred percent.”
you laughed again, he was so cute and funny to you and you didn’t even know why you were really starting a conversation with him out of the blue. as much as you liked it, you couldn’t help but feel like you were holding him up.
“i’m sorry, i’m wasting your time. can i get umm, a small chocolate-vanilla swirl, on a cake cone?”
“soft-serve?” peter asked, his customer service voice kicking in.
“yeah,” you said, and when you looked up, your eyes were gleaming, making peter’s breath hitch in his throat.
he started to freeze again, but stopped himself this time, glancing down and scratching the nape of his neck, blinking harshly,
     “uhh, will that be all?”
     “yep.”
“your total is $3.42,” peter announced after handling the register, and you handed him a five dollar bill with ease, peter looking down and noticing your well-groomed nails and how soft your hands looked. “here’s your change.”
he gave you back your change and something in him snapped when he blurted,
     “and you weren’t.”
you cocked her head to the side, confused,
     “weren’t what?”
“wasting my time,” peter answered, finding the courage in himself to smile at her just a moment,  blissed out when you smiled back.
“you’re so cute,” you said nonchalantly, as if it were nothing, just a meaningless compliment that would be thrown into the void. but peter’s heart physically panged when you said it and his cheeks went as red as the cherry he put on top of your ice cream, handing it to you with hands that were damn near trembling.
“th-anks,” he said, his voice cracking.
his mind was racing, replaying the three words over and over again in his head. he was already preparing himself to never talk to you in school but always remember this moment as one he would cherish, the sole interaction that mattered between the two of you, small but a victory anyway. but he looked up when he noticed you hadn’t yet retreated back to your friends who were all laughing among themselves.
you were just standing where you had been in front of him, holding your ice cream cone in both hands and gazing inquisitively at him as you licked your ice cream. it took everything in peter for his eyes not to glance down at your lips and notice the clear lip gloss you had on that made your lips look pouty and kissable and shiny, and he did anyway.
“peter, right?” you said, and for a second he forgot that you too must know him from school, that this was a mutual understanding. peter figured you had just read his nametag until he realized you were actually conscious of his existence.
     “yeah... yeah, peter. peter parker.”
“peter parker, sounds like a superhero’s name,” you repeated his name and it sounded like ice cream rolling off your tongue - literally.
he smiled softly,
“yeah, that’s me, heroic as ever. and you’re yn.”
“c’est moi,” you decided to lean on the counter so you could peer your head in and feel closer to peter, which of course made his heart race like mad, but surprisingly he kept his cool.
“i’m… peter,” he said, his voice getting lost as he found himself staring into your eyes, realizing too late that he sounded like a cd stuck on repeat.
you giggled loudly, amused by his awkwardness and cute behavior, cooing,
“yeah, i got that. you’re in my chem class, and you’re like really smart.”
“oh yeah?” peter laughed to himself and rested his hand down, accidentally popping open the register, scaring himself, and then having to close it abruptly.
“hells yeah. this one time no one else knew how to balance this precipitation reaction and you did it in like point five seconds. it was pretty impressive,” peter detected the tone in your voice as impressed, admiration even? it was too surreal to fully address.
“wow,” peter was blown away at the fact that you even noticed his presence in that class. “i mean um, thanks. you’re pretty - smart … too. i mean you’re pretty smart too. and, pretty. but also smart.”
you smiled, although peter was mentally beating himself up for being so rattled,
     “thanks.”
“um, i like your earrings,” peter said in a desperate attempt to keep the conversation going, though he really did like your earrings, gold hoop ones shaped in a heart.
“thanks! they were like five bucks at the beauty supply store, i had to cop them. they’re these bamboo heart-shaped hoop earrings. pretty cool.” “yeah,” peter chuckled. “cool.”
he didn’t mean to sound as careless as he did, it was just that he wasn’t used to talking to pretty girls for a prolonged amount of time, and he was in pure shock at the fact that you of all people wanted to talk to him. like, you were willingly starting and holding conversation and the fact of that was too much to handle.
“so, have you lived here your whole life?”
“at scoops ahoy?” peter replied with a question, face palming when he realized you obviously weren't referring to that. “i mean, queens, god. yeah, pretty much. and you-”
“moved here from oakland, cali. so, kinda california girl meets new york. you know, it’s so different here, but i like it. the people are really nice, despite popular belief.”
“you must have gotten lucky with the people,” peter joked, and you just smirked,
“i was talking about you. but, sure.”
peter paused, taking in what you had just said and how easily the conversation was flowing, mostly thanks to you not being as awkward as he was, and he figured now was his time.
“um... listen, i know we only really just met and all, but-”
“just met? peter, i’ve known you for like, a couple months now,” you teased, and he laughed nervously, shaking his head, his curls falling onto his forehead,
“aha, yeah, right. but we’ve only just met and i was wondering if… if you… maybe wanted to hang out sometime. i-if you want. you definitely don’t have to, but-”
you made a face,
“we’re hanging out right now.” you caught sight of peter’s fallen face and just chuckled, nudging his arm from the other side of the counter, your touch electrifying him. “peter, i’m kidding!”
“oh,” he giggled nervously, continuing to scratch at the nape of his neck. “i’m sorry, i-”
“don’t be,” you commanded, and suddenly he knew not to be. you took a pen from nearby, holding your ice cream in a different hand, and started to scribble something onto a piece of napkin. “here’s my number. call me sometime.”
peter practically choked on his own spit at the sight and he blinked fiercely, his mind going foggy because he hadn’t yet evaluated what would happen in this particular series of events. he wasn’t sure if it was real or just some sick fantasy waiting to mock him by his sleep, but when he felt the touch of the soft napkin dimpled with pen engravings in his hand he knew it had to be real. you were giving him your number.
“oh. wow, thanks, this is… i’ll just call you.”
“that’s how phones work,” you giggled, and his fogginess and shock morphed into excitement and anticipation as he waved the napkin around in his fingers.
“yeah. i’m not that smart after all,” he said, joyous to hear you laugh again. “god, i know i must look so-”
“shhh, don’t say anything bad about yourself. look, i gotta go. but call me soon. maybe tonight, we can talk. if you want to.”
peter’s face lit up like a christmas tree and he beamed at you,
    “yeah, i’ll call you.”
“cool,” you said, your heart rate increasing just like his did as you walked backward, facing him.
“cool,” he repeated, under his breath, a smile forever encasing his features.
“guys, let’s go,” you corralled your friends and they followed, filtering out of the parlor. you continued to walk backwards so you could face peter, “bye!”
“you look really pretty, by the way. really nice,” peter blurted out of excitement, still finding the need to correct himself.
this time you were the one whose cheeks got warm,
“thanks! you too,” you had reached the door by now and you were beginning to turn away. “bye, peter!”
peter said goodbye again and watched as you turned around and walked out the door, joining your friends, all grouped up and laughing with them again. and even with all the conversation you had just had, he still got a brain freeze when you turned around for a second, away from your friends, just to look at him again, a smile on your face, too.

“What’s the point of picking up that junk?” MacCready complained as Maya examined the charred remains of a file at the reception desk.
He’d been like this all morning and her patience was wearing thin.
He didn’t want her to investigate the distress signal they picked up.
He didn’t care that he woke up every creature from HQ to Med-Tek in some vain attempt to shoot away his nerves.
He didn’t even care about scavenging for caps or valuables along the way - the final confirmation to Maya that he was not as okay as he claimed. In the many weeks they’d been travelling together, she’d never seen the mercenary this focused, or this scared.
“I’m just trying to find any more information on this ‘Prevent’ so Curie can study it.  It was a research drug, so anything we can find out about it will be good to know before we give it to Duncan, right?” Maya retorted, a little sharper than she’d intended, before placing the file back on the desk. It was only a sign-in register but her point remained valid all the same.
“Ah Monsieur MacCready, you are exhibiting symptoms of extreme agitation and anxiety. May I suggest the administration of a minute dosage of Med-X to assist you in this mission?” Curie asked eagerly as she floated by.
By the time the chem had been dispensed - MacCready had already angrily barged past them into the offices at the back of the building. Shots and curses could be heard bouncing off the walls in the distance and Maya couldn’t help but wince as she readied her gun.
“We’d better go and make sure he doesn’t get torn apart in there. I’m sorry he’s being so...difficult, right now. He’s just worried about his son.”
Curie nodded in acknowledgement and followed behind her companion. She understood the logic and reasoning of a father being concerned over the welfare of a sick child. She understood the physical signs of worry and the effect it had on a human’s psyche. But she did not know what it felt like. She did not understand why her attempt to relieve him of this problem was not what he desired. Logically, it made no sense. So much of human behaviour made no logical sense to Curie. Over two centuries of studying them and she still did not understand what it meant to be a human. Something that bothered her more than ever now she was around so many different human beings every day.
Tumblr media
The infestation of ferals guided them from the executive’s terminal on the third floor, all the way down the research centre’s subterranean levels where the elusive cure was apparently stored.
MacCready barely spoke a word to Maya unless it was encouraging her to hurry up when she, Curie and Dogmeat lagged behind him on the way to the laboratory. Curie,  herself, was quieter than usual too and it made the atmosphere particularly more sombre - An impressive feat, especially when taking into consideration that the entire building had spent the last two centuries as the eternal resting place of Med-Tek’s more unfortunate employees; the poor souls who had been trapped here when the bombs fell had succumbed to the radiation instead of being granted the sweet release of death.
There were many fates worse than death in this world, but turning into a feral ghoul was one that Maya feared most.
Tumblr media
The last of the frustrated screams echoed out from the lab by the time Maya and Curie had caught up, leaving only the frustrated heavy breathing and cursing of their companion as he attempted to search the debris for his promised goal. MacCready was the most impressive shot she’d ever witnessed anyway, but today the anticipation made him especially efficient, something she understood probably too well in her own search to save her son. It was making him reckless too.
In fact, MacCready had been so wrapped up in clearing out the ferals with almost vindictive haste, he’d completely overlooked the bright, red, auto-injecting syringe that lay in plain view on the abandoned workstation.
“Mademoiselle! Is that the item we are looking for? The cure for Monsieur MacCready’s child?” Curie had noticed the chem at almost the exact same moment Maya did.
“I think so, Curie. Can you take a look at it for me to be sure?” Maya replied, picking it up and examining it closely.
Tumblr media
From the opposite corner of the lab, half way through ripping a drawer open, MacCready heard the robot’s announcement and had started to make his way back over to them.
When he saw that Maya did indeed have the injector in her hand - it was the first time she’d seen those big blue eyes light up all day.
“We did it… holy crap, we actually did it! We just gave Duncan a fighting chance to live.” He exclaimed as he took the cure from Maya’s hands and pocketed it. Even then, he didn’t move even an inch away from her, a detail that Maya couldn’t help but register despite not wanting to. Before she could finish scolding herself for letting herself think such ridiculous things when it came to a married man - MacCready placed a trembling hand on her arm.
“I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to pay you back for this… I owe you big time.”
Tumblr media
Maya shook her head incredulously in an attempt to avoid his piercing gaze.
“Mac...This is a friendship, not a business contract. All I care about is curing your son.”
MacCready refused to let her look away. With one hand he cupped her cheek and forced her face back him, with the other he took her hand.
The surprise of his touch forced her to turn and face him, making the lack of space between them that much more highlighted. Immediately she felt her ivory cheeks flush and her heart started to race.
“I know you do.” He sighed with a dopey smile and moved his head in closer, so close that the impact of his breath sent shivers down her spine. “I'm just used to people taking rather than giving. Maybe one day I'll realize that you're different.” Before she could answer, he’d bridged what little remained of the gap between them and connected their lips.
Tumblr media
It was clumsy and almost forceful in his haste. Not bad… just different than what she was used to.
Maya didn’t pull away, too stunned that he’d finally broke the tension between them and kissed her to really respond at first. So many questions flooded her mind and none she could bring herself to ask, the most prominent one wouldn’t stay quiet in her mind - “What about your wife?” The one he’d mentioned back in HQ. She was about to push him off and actually ask it when he did the job for her. Just as abrupt and unexpected as the kiss had started, MacCready pulled away and ended it without a word. Before any awkwardness could form, Dogmeat and Curie returned back to them after sweeping the laboratory for anything useful.
“Madame, we discovered a small storage unit of medical supplies and I took the initiative to annex anything useful for our mission. May I suggest we leave this place if we have found what we are looking for? My systems are detecting high levels of radiation in these laboratories. Caution is strongly recommended.”
“Don’t worry about it, Curie, we can go now. The last step is to get the Cure to Daisy in Goodneighbor.” Mac smiled at Maya and started to make his way to the elevator.. “With her caravan contacts, she's the only one I trust to get this to Duncan on time.” He glanced back at his slightly stupefied companion and cocked his head to encourage her to follow. “This is the last favor I'm going to ask, I promise. Let’s go.”
“G-Goodneighbor? Right. Sure! Let’s go!” Maya nodded confidently and composed herself before following in his wake.
Even though her heart was still racing as she awkwardly took her place next to him in the elevator, one thing was perfectly clear by the time they got back to the surface and left the building: He did not want to talk about what had happened between them.
Though she was still confused and shocked from the last few hours with him, she kept her mouth shut and acted as if nothing had happened as they made their way to Goodneighbor. It was much easier for both of them right now if they silently accepted that the kiss had been a mistake and had only occurred because they had got caught up in the moment.

The weeklong camp had come to an end before it had begun. I had a lot of fun hanging out with the girls during the end of camp barbecue. There were a few instances where I had to chase after Bokuto to remind him to not steal so much food from the different grills, but he just laughed it off before running away with a plate full of food for Akaashi. Kuroo on the other hand, was busy keeping track of his protoges, Kenma and Tsukishima (another tall middle blocker from Karasuno) by also doing the same thing. There was a moment before the visiting teams started to pack their belongings where Kenma tugged on my sleeve to pull me aside causing my conversation with the female managers to be cut short. (We had already traded contact info during the many nights we stayed up exchanging stories of their teams antics, so we all decided to text each other later).
“Everything ok Kenma?” I asked when we stopped walking. There was a safe distance between the side of the building where we stood and the other members of the teams.
“Kuroo seems to really like you,” he said in a low tone. I nodded as I kicked the invisible pile of dust on the concrete floor. His console was tucked away in his track jacket pocket, but he continued to play a different game on his phone.
“I have a feeling that I already know,” I replied with a smirk.
“Good. Because I couldn’t get him to shut up about you after you helped Lev out the other day.”
A chortle escaped my lips, “I see. Well, if that’s all you wanted to tell me, then I guess we could head back. C’mon, Karasuno is about to leave now too. Let’s say bye to Shoyo & Tsukki.”
It seemed as though everyone had begun saying their farewells by the time we returned.
***
Summer vacation quickly ended for me as soon as it had begun. Classes were starting again the following day, so naturally by the time I had arrived back home, I greeted my parents before calling my close friend, Riza.
“Kenma confirmed to me that Kuroo does like me and we may or may not have spent more time alone after lights out,” I explained collapsing on my mattress.
“Oh ho ho,” Riza chuckled on her end of the line. “So, the tom cat finally came around to liking you? That’s terrific. All of his fans are going to be heart broken when you guys go out on your date next Saturday.”
“I know. I am not looking forward to receiving those glares from his exes though.”
“Meh, you’ll be fine. They were the ones who let him go with the exception of Angela though. Those two always fought, but I am glad you two never really fought. Well, maybe except in trig when you both arrived at different limit answers, haha.”
“Of course you’d remember how well he took being wrong, Riz.”
“Mmhm. I gotta back my friend up whenever he assumes he is the smartest in the room. Anyways, I’m gonna go prepare for bed. See you in class tomorrow.”
“Okidokie. Meet at the convenience store at seven?”
“I’ll be there. Later Kat.”
***
The days seemed to have blurred together, but with both Kuroo and I heavily invested in our separate clubs outside of school hours, we barely had any time to discuss finalizing our plans for our arcade date. On Friday night before our date, I received a call from him. He seemed a bit stressed out, more so than usual, but that was to be expected since the team had a qualifying match scheduled in a few days time.
“Coach is making us have an extra practice on Wednesday and that’s when this chem lab is due. There’s also this make up test I have to do for history and I’m falling behind in trig since I can’t really find the time for homework. Kat, I don’t know what to do.”
I was seated at my desk in front of my computer screen in the middle of typing an essay for English class. It was a three to five page paper discussing the themes of Westernized fairy tales which I stopped writing because clearly, Kuroo needed someone to snap him back into focus.
“Take a deep breath first,” I heard him inhale and upon his exhale, I continued. “Good. Now, listen to me carefully Tetsuro: meet me in the library after class on Monday. Bring all your materials for the classes you fell behind on. I’ll make copy of my notes and bring a pen to correct your mistakes on the trig quizzes since you got an 80% last time.”
“Our second date is a study date, huh?”
I chuckled. “It can be. Let’s survive the first one, yeah? The forecast called for rain tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully we won’t get caught in it on the way back.”
***
I arrived first to the arcade around 17:50. I was dressed in the best casual attire I could think of: navy wide leg pants, a white dress shirt paired underneath with a lemon yellow camisole. My shoes were black rain boots and my hair was left down. Kuroo came a few minutes later dressed in an all black street ensemble attire that made me think I was a bit out of his league (more so than before).
“You did not have to come here looking like an idol star,” I teased when he reached out to hold my hand.
“And you didn’t have to either,” he said with a smile. “Let’s go inside to play Street Fighter II again, yeah?” I nodded.
A few hours passed us by as we kept reloading the game cards playing different arcade games ranging from fighting games, TETRIS, and music games (like JuBEAT FESTO). Kuroo’s cat like smile made me more competitive when he failed the last song of JuBeat.
“Move aside, lemme see if I can beat your score sir,” I mused. I swiped my card and selected my first song and the speed. The tiles began to glow with the first few notes coming from the machine. There were a lot of encouraging words coming through the screen: “Combo!” “Perfect” “100 note streak!”
“By the time my round ended, the title card illuminated with a new hi-score slot waiting for my initials to be put in.
“If I wanted to date Kenma, I would have just taken him here,” Kuroo muttered under his breath. “Well, you win. I bow down to you, Kat-chan. Queen of JuBEAT FESTO.”
“You don’t have to, but maybe we should go? It’s almost 20:30 and I don’t want to stay out too late. Let’s go grab a bite to eat, yeah?”
There were a few food cart vendors located down the street from the arcade. Their carts were lined up against the entrance way of an old park where there once was a sunflower field. Years of urbanization caused the flowers to no longer be planted, but in their stead, a field of peonies were grown. I took a seat on one of the benches facing the flowers. A warm smile graced my lips as I leaned down to pluck one off the field.
“Such a pretty flower for a pretty date,” Kuroo’s voice made me yelp in surprise. He cackled as he extended one of the taiyaki he bought toward me. “Here, I got you a taiyaki.” I took one of the fish shaped pastries an thanked him. We raised our fishes to each other and began to munch on them; we sat there for about half an hour making the time pass by playing a question game with each other.
“Your turn,” I reminded Kuroo with a nudge of my elbow. “Ask me anything you like.”
“Alright,” Kuroo replied. “Hmm...I got it! Kat, how many dates do we have to go on before I ask you to be my girlfriend?”
I leaned forward and folded my arms over my thighs, a hum drawn out into the air. I made direct eye contact with the peonies, the one I plucked remained on the bench. He had a puzzled emotion worn on his face.
“As many as it takes for me to believe you actually like me. Kuroo,” I swallowed thickly. “You’re someone who would break up with a girl over the fact that they bore you or that they didn’t understand your commitment to your team as captain. It’s going to take some time for me to believe your emotions toward me are genuine. Sure, we had fun at training camp, but I need you think this through. Are you sure you want to be with me?”
At this point, Kuroo stood up and immediately crouched down in front of me. The summer breeze made his hair dance in the wind along with the blooms behind him.
“I’m sure,” he replied. A hand of his combed a few pieces of my hair behind my ear; he grabbed the plucked peony blossom and placed it behind my exposed ear. “See? You do look more glamorous with it in your hair. C’mon, I suppose it’s time for me to walk you home.”
He pulled me up off the bench and placed a light kiss atop the crown of my head.
We arrived at the fork in the sidewalk where we would have originally had split up before, but instead Kuroo escorted me to the front courtyard of my apartment complex building. He held my hand the entire walk over, telling me more stories of his childhood with Kenma up until the time Kenma turned twelve and they  climbed a tree to rescue a kitten.
“And that’s how Kenma had his first pet,” Kuroo said, a triumphant smile over his face.
“So it seems,” I replied, a shortened giggle fell out of my mouth. He raised my hand to his lips, thanking me for a wonderful outing. His thumb traced over my knuckles lightly. I removed the flower from behind my ear before offering it to him. He pushed it back toward me before he tilted my chin up to meet his gaze.
“Keep it, sweetheart,” his voice told me. He leaned down again and kissed me, slowly to quiet my irrational fears of not being wanted by him. One kiss was all it took for both of us to come to terms with our outlook on each other. My eyes fluttered open, my hand still wrapped around the peony’s stem. He kissed my cheek when I wasn’t looking directly at him.
“Go on upstairs. I’ll leave after you go,” he told me in an hazy tone. He squeezed my hand gently.
“Thank you for today,” I began as I turned around to open the door of the lobby. “See ya at school next week.”
***
About a month and half after our first date, Kuroo and I found ourselves curled up on the couch in his living room with a Ghibli film playing in the background. His arm was resting comfortably against my waist, drawing small circles on my skin. I turned my eyes away from the tv to look up at him before I decided I was done watching the film. I committed the minute details of his face to memory.
He cocked his head to the side with a curious brow lifted toward me right up until the moment I initiated a kiss. Kuroo did not object to this sign of affection pouring from me. His hand moved away from my waist to my back, then I felt his arms loop behind me to pull me over his lap. I found myself wrapping my legs around his waist as my hands made their way on to the fabric of his shirt prior to me holding on to it for balance as he began to work on deepening our kiss. I found myself smiling into every kiss he gave me, stealing every ounce of air he had inside his lungs. He rested his head against the crook of my neck, his breathing uneven.
“Three years of wondering what it would feel like to have you alone like this,” his voice reverberated gently against my skin causing a blush to dance across my face. Slowly, I felt his lips imprint open mouthed kisses up the side of my neck. He was gentle with me at first, much like the first person to kiss me like this. My breath was caught in my throat and it seemed he didn’t care as a whimper escaped my lips in anticipation not knowing where his lips were headed to next. Damn this boy, my inner thoughts cursed at him.
Each kiss gained momentum the closer his lips grazed against my own. In the past couple of dates that we had had, I mentioned off hand to Kuroo that if he were to kiss my neck, even playfully, I’d crumble beneath his touch. Smooth ass mother fucker, I thought.
“Shh...” I hushed him within a few seconds when I felt his one of his hands disappear under the back of my shirt and the other stabilized the back of my neck. I’d like to think he counted how many layers of clothing there was between us, but his coarse hands roamed my body curious to know how soft my skin was.
He pushed me forward, causing me to crash on to his demanding lips again; his hands were wrapped around my waist and mine laced lightly around the back of his neck, giving me more support to push myself into him more. His mouth was compressed against mine, yet this kiss remained as light as we had intended it to be. We sat like this for a few moments before our lips began to move rhythmically over the other, the pace being set by him.
I exhaled through my nose, not wanting to let go of him. There was an overwhelming feeling of mutual relief toward each other finally seeing what we could be. Relief raced out of hearts for a moment only to be replaced with this sense of combined eccentric panic, and lust. More, I thought. I need more of this kind of physical affection.
Kuroo’s hand on the small of my back travelled higher in an attempt to pull my shirt over my head, to which I shook my head in agreement.
“It’s too hot,” I said, lifting the fabric over my head and tossing it to the side. Kuroo’s eyed my exposed top half through running his hands up my sides. My chest rose and fell with every touch his grazed my skin.
“I concur,” he said. I shrugged before I leaned down, hands pressing his shoulders back on to the back of the couch. From there, I began my barrage of open mouthed kisses down his neck, leaving bite marks behind his ear. Hearing him hiss an exasperated sigh when he pulled me toward him causing me to stop.
My hair hung over my shoulders as Kuroo tilted his head up again to press his forehead against mine. He and I exchanged a few words making sure the other was doing ok; most of our replies were done in a hummed tone of the “yes,” variety.
Our heart rates needed to return to a normal pace prior to us continuing where we had left off. Kuroo’s playful shine in his eyes and smirk told me everything I wanted to know. I caressed his cheek when I pulled away, the inside of my palm warm from his flushed face.
“Kat,” he breathed my name so effortlessly it caused me to stop stroking the side of his face.
“Hmm?” my vocal chords vibrates at the sound of my name. “What is it?”
Suddenly, I took note of how Kuroo’s eyes were trying to refocus themselves on my face; pupils dilated meaning he felt the rush of serotonin enter his system. He shifted his weight underneath me and whispered something along the lines of “you’re staying over tonight,” in my ear to which I nodded. I didn’t have time to wait since I felt him stand up with his hands under my thighs.
“W-woah!” I said, stifling a laugh when I moved my arms around his neck for balance. “Where are you taking me?” As if I didn’t already know the answer. I arched my eyebrow up at him with a teasing expression.
“My room,” Kuroo answered, his eyes crinkled with a smile. “To continue where we left off kitten.”

This is just a little thing I wrote up this morning for my birthday, so I hope you enjoy :)
The Planetarium - A TLOU Ellie x TWDG Clementine oneshot
That morning had been about like any other. She got up a quarter till six in the morning, showered, made breakfast, coffee, took her daily dose of Reddit shitposts, and had her usual argument with Joel about her grades slipping. Given how early school started, it wasn’t any surprise that she had the energy level of a sloth hanging from a tree limb. The coffee helped, of course, but there was only so much you could do.
School had the same monotony to it. The only notable change today had been the occasional birthday greeting from a friend or two, most of which were either too enthusiastic about it, or mentioned it as quickly as possible and moved on. Clementine had been noticeably absent all day, which only further brought her down. Her eighteenth birthday, and her best friend wasn’t even around. That sucked the most.
When it came time to go home, Ellie had gone the usual way, taking the street that brought her by the nearest park. It usually helped to take a minute to breathe before heading home and dealing with homework for another night, especially on a Friday, but she’d never even make it to the park tonight. As she was leaving the school, hands buried in her pockets and her hoodie zipped up close to her neck to combat the cold, the girl she’d been looking for all day appeared as if out of thin air.
She wore a purple sweatshirt that looked a size too big for her, and her signature baseball cap rather than the more practical option of a beanie or hood. The sight was endearing, seeing how attached Clementine still was to that hat. Losing her parents the way she did, she didn’t doubt why. Shit sucked.
The bright smile on the girl’s face, though, brought her out of those uncomfortable thoughts, just in time for the shorter girl to drag her into a tight hug even Ellie would have trouble replicating. Her words were muffled against Ellie’s jacket, but still loud enough for her to know that the girl was practically yelling them excitedly. “Happy birthday!”
“Hey, thanks,” Ellie said, through her surprise, returning the embrace with relative ease. “Good to see you, too.” Were you even at school today? She found herself wondering, raising an eyebrow.
“Sorry that I missed class,” Clementine continued as she pulled away, as if reading Ellie’s thoughts. She wouldn’t be surprised, to be honest. Clem had a way of reading her that seemed almost telepathic. It’d be creepy if it wasn’t for how long they’ve known each other now. She probably knew Clementine better than she knew herself, no doubt the same applied vice versa. “Lee was helping me with… uh… something. You’ll see.” The girl smiled, grabbing Ellie by the hand. “C’mon, I got a surprise for you.”
“Is it another pun book?” Ellie instantly asked, silently hoping that it was. Granted, she was sure that Clementine wouldn’t skip class that day just to get another pun book. It had to be something else. Still, the thought amused her. Another book filled with potential torture for Clementine and Joel? Fuck yeah.
Clementine shook her head, looking back at her as they trudged down the snow-laden sidewalk. “Mm-mm, even better. You’ll just have to wait and see.” Okay, now Ellie was intrigued.
It wasn’t a long walk to Clementine’s house, and Ellie spent most of the journey there trying to get some sort of information out of the girl about what she was being dragged into. Clementine was tight-lipped, though, being coy about the whole thing. It frustrated her to no end. When they got there, Lee greeted her warmly, wishing her a happy birthday and a ‘good luck’ for becoming an adult. Gee, thanks Lee, I look forward to having to do taxes.
He drove them to their destination, just as quiet about the whole thing as Clementine was. She only began to get an idea as to what was happening when a massive building began to loom ahead of them. Some sort of museum, she thought, which in itself seemed kinda… boring. But, well, she knew that place had a planetarium in it. And, of course, she’d been wanting to go to one since she was like thirteen. Joel hadn’t gotten the chance to take her, given how busy his schedule usually was, so Ellie often talked about it with Clementine. Guess today was the day.
Stopping outside museum, Lee gave them the quick rundown of when he’d be back, and to text him if they decided to get anything out so he’d know where to pick them up. Clementine quickly told him that they would, and dragged Ellie out of the car, and towards the museum.
The instant they entered that place, she turned on Ellie, grinning. “So, have you guessed it yet?”
“I did, and you didn’t,” she let out that last word in an exasperated gasp, still reeling. The interior of the museum was huge, with high walls and ornate designs. To their right was a dinosaur exhibit, where a bunch of tourists were already making their way through the place. A guide stood near the entrance, asking them if they needed any help, which Clementine refused politely, saying that they knew where they were going.
“I had to pull some strings,” Clementine finally replied as they were making their way to the planetarium. “Lee would only pay for our tickets if I got straight A’s, so… sorry about missing out on all those weekend hangouts. Promise it wasn’t because I didn’t want to.”
“I get it,” Ellie replied warmly, shrugging. “I guess I needed some time to work on my stuff, too. Before Joel grills me alive for failing Chem.”
“How’s that going, by the way?” Clementine asked, looking towards her with a raised, concerned eyebrow. “Need any help?”
Ellie smiled. “Planetarium first, Chem later.” Clementine chuckled, nodding her approval. The next partition in the museum brought them into the outskirts of the planetarium, where a model of the solar system was spread out across the massive space. Ellie imagined herself being on a shuttle to Mars, watching as the red orb grew closer and closer, only it was Ellie’s feet bringing her there rather than engines.
One tour of the solar system later, they’d reached their destination. Surprisingly, no one was in the planetarium, which… well, made this all the better. Maybe Clementine pulled some strings to make that happen, but she doubted it. It’d take a ridiculous amount of money to pull that off.
Inside, darkness enveloped the ground, and Clementine found a nice spot to throw out a blanket for the two to lay on. Above, stars filled the roof, spinning around the room. It slowly began to zoom out, eventually coalescing into a galaxy.
She was in awe, imagining the scale of the universe surrounding her, and silently disappointed that she’d never get to explore it. Still, it made for a beautiful sight, almost as much as it was to be lying next to her best friend, who’s eyes shimmered in the starlight.
It felt like ages before Ellie found the courage to break the silence.
“You didn’t have to do this, y’know,” she said softly. “A pun book would’ve been enough.”
Clementine rolled her eyes, looking towards her out of the corner of her vision. “But I gave you one last year. Would be shitty to do that twice in a row.” She shifted in her spot, placing her hands beneath her head. “Besides, you deserve better.”
Ellie let out a dry laugh. “Tell that to Joel. The next time he sees my report card, I’m worried he’ll ground me for life.”
That hung in the air for a moment, a negative comment she was worried that it brought the whole mood down. Clementine took in a deep breath through her nose, pulling her hands out from behind her head, looking towards Ellie once more.
“You know Joel pitched in for this, right?” She said quietly, causing Ellie’s eyes to widen.
“Really?”
“Yeah. He thought you deserved it, too.” Clementine paused. “You deserve everything, Elle.”
The instant Clementine’s hand found her own, Ellie felt as if she’d been electrocuted. Keeping herself calm proved to be difficult, a hitch in her breath that no doubt reached her friend’s ears. Still, despite all that, Clementine made no indication that it even bothered her. Ellie envied her for that.
“Thanks, Clem…” She found the courage to say, eyes trailing back towards the stars once more. “For everything.”
Clementine nudged her with her elbow, smiling once more. “Happy birthday, Stupid.”
With that, Ellie was more than ready to let the universe wash over her.

We’re excited to announce that Em has decided to level up DJ Jeffries from a mumu minor character to a main character! Please go through the checklist to make sure you’re ready to go and send in your account within the next 24 hours.
OOC INFO
Name + pronouns: em + she/her Age: fossil Timezone: est Ships: dj/chem Anti-Ships: dj/forced
IC INFO
Full Name: Dolores Jean “DJ” Jeffries Face Claim: Odette Annable  Age/Birthday: 30 / August 18, 1989 Occupation: Carpenter and electrician for her family’s company, which she’s being groomed to eventually take over when her dad decides to retire. She also runs her own side business, DJ Designs, where she specializes in custom pieces.  Personality: agreeable, hardworking, loyal, mechanically-minded, reactionary, simple, and trusting Hometown: Upper West Side, Manhattan Bio:
DJ was gifted with her names -- Dolores Jean -- by having the honor of being the first grandchild on either side of her parents’ families. As a result she thoroughly spoiled and dotted upon for the first few years of her life, and knows she still ranks as the favorite grandkid.
From the time she could step into her dad’s work boots and have enough strength to drag his tool belt, DJ would willingly follow her father to weekend work sites, and want to help out however she could. DJ’s mom wished her only daughter would take interest in other pursuits, but as DJ progressed through school and it was clear intelligence wasn’t in traditional academics, her dad was able to persuade her mom that DJ’s interest and talent for the work was not only good for her, but good for the family business. As a result, while still in high school DJ started working on the hours needed for her trade apprenticeships.
She’s been with her family’s company since, and knows the expectation is that she’ll eventually take over for her dad -- just like her dad did for her granddad -- whenever he decides to retire. DJ’s taken a few business courses as preparation, but the reality of it all scares her. She knows she’s good at her current job, but the weight of having to carry a whole company and what her family has built is nerve-racking, so she hopes her dad’s jokes about eyeing retirement soon are just that: jokes.
In her free time DJ’s working to grow her side-business, DJ Designs, which she runs out of her grandparents’ garage in Queens. She does custom woodwork and commissions for clients, and has created everything from tables and chairs, to bunkbeds and bed frames, cabinetry, and outdoor play sets. She also volunteers her time for Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as youth sports leagues in her neighborhood. She got interested in the latter because of having horrible experiences with team sports while growing up. Given her size -- DJ’s 6′5 -- and natural athleticism, most of her youth coaches put a lot of pressure on her to do well and better than her teammates. Sports ended up stressing her out and making herself feel horrible whenever her team lost as she felt like she was solely responsible. Eventually her parents transitioned her to a swim team. While there was still a team element involved, most of the competition of individual-based, and DJ thrived. She still doesn’t personally participate in team sports to this day, but actively enjoys watching them and cheering on her friends.
Pets: Step-roomie-parent to Marley’s new kitten, Paul McCartney, though DJ calls him Mac.
Relationships:
Marley Rose. Roommate. After her breakup Marley was surfing couches while trying to figure out a permanent place to land. Noticing that Marley seems down and tired, DJ asks what was up one morning while grabbing her first coffee of the day, and in the end offers Marley the second bedroom in her apartment. Even though she’s lived on her own for a couple of years, DJ’s happy to have someone to share her space with, especially someone like Marley since she has a certain light about her.
Quinn Fabray. Suds Bud. DJ has followed soccer for most of her young into adult life, so she definitely knew who Quinn was the moment she started frequenting ACup. DJ managed to gush only the first two times they met, and then they connected through a shared love of sports and athletics. Together they play fantasy football through her company’s league, and enjoy kicking back in front of a big screen at a bar or at each other’s homes, splitting a six pack and greasy food, and watching whatever sporting event is on the tube.
Lacey Mikhailov. Faith Friend. Since DJ’s faith is such an important part of her life, she’s sought out others that are as equally enthusiastic and also identify as not straight. That’s how she and Lacey connected, and they’ve attended services at each other’s places of worship.
Lola Alvarez. Faith Friend. DJ and Lola were familiar with each from ACup, and then they happened to catch each other at the same Holy Trinity service. DJ often lights a candle for Mimi, Lola’s mom, and they’ve attended special prayer services together.
Bea Smith. Ex. DJ calls what she and Bea did as dating, even if Bea didn’t want to label what they shared. So as a result, DJ wanted more and needed more from Bea than she was ready to give, so DJ ended the relationship. DJ doesn’t really have it in her to hold a grudge, so they’re on decent terms now, even if there’s still some awkwardness now and again.
Kate Hummel. Ex. Upon moving to NYC Kate was looking to land her first girlfriend, and DJ couldn’t help but notice Kate and her confidence. They didn’t really have too much in common with each other aside from general attraction, and went on a few dates, spent a lot of time kissing, but whenever things moved toward something more, Kate would get spooked, and eventually they mutually thought being just friends was their destiny.
April’s Showers. Cheerleader. DJ certainly has the athletic ability to be on the pitch and play alongside her friends, but given her past experiences with team sports she’s more than happy to stand on the sidelines, wear face paint and sometimes Quinn’s jersey, and cheer on the team.
