Church Girl
Oscar Piastri x Autistic!reader
Genre: hurt/comfort
Request: no (check masterlist for request status)
Summary: Church has a tendency to make people feel unwanted. When reader goes to visit her family, they convince her to go with them to the place she’s trying to forget. Good thing Oscar is there with her.
Warnings: toxic religious folk, religious trauma, creepy old men, panic attacks
Notes: okay so this goes out to my neurodivergents who were stuck in a church that didn’t understand them with peers who made them feel like they were an alien, adults who were always asking the wrong questions and judging their clothes, and were forced into the stereotypes they wanted you to fit in. Fire Drill by Melanie Martinez was on repeat while writing this.
This is loosely based on true events

Summer break is here which means it’s time to go visit family. She and Oscar board the plane to her home country, all smiles and laughs.
She’s missed them since being away. Her family hasn’t always understood her, but she loves them dearly.
When they arrived they were greeted with hugs and questions about the trip.
At the dinner table that night, Oscar was quick to realize that he didn’t fully realize how religious his girlfriends family is. It seemed to be their favorite topic.
The girl next to him was struggling with the conversation and he could feel her stimming under the table. She’d talked about her church experience a little with him. He didn’t want to push her so he didn’t know the full extent of everything that happened. He recalls her mom having to put up with some horrible people and the tears over how it hurt her to see her mom so broken in a place she should feel loved. How her sister felt she would never be good enough for their expectations. How her dad uses is to control them sometimes.
And yet they’d convinced them to go with. Well- more like she was trying to please and wants to spend time with her family.
In the lonesome of their room that night, she collapsed into him.
“I think I might vomit.”
He simply hold her. “Do you want to talk about it? We can always say we changed our minds.” He suggests. His attempt at reassuring her futile as she panics more.
“The people there judge so critically. It didn’t help that I was weird to kids my age and mature enough for the adults to ask me why I’m showing my shoulders because they’re a distraction.”
Oscar hums in understanding. Carful not to interrupt her explanation but still show he’s listening.
“They say it’s a stereotype, but it’s true. I’ve been teased and looked down on and made out to be over dramatic. My old youth pastor used to talk to my mom about my ‘behavior’ and how I argued with him to much. Then I yelled at him for getting in my personal space and saying things an adult should never say to a child, in my opinion. I was constantly told I talk to much about the wrong things and not enough about the right.”
Though Oscar’s shirt is getting wet, he doesn’t care. Her more harmful stimming habits are showing as he’s determined not to let that happen. She plays with his fingers instead. “I can’t do it Jack.”
The endearing nickname alerts him this is serious. He didn’t know how far this trauma had been rooted inside her. No wonder she struggles with her self-esteem, she was told her entire life she’d never measure up. She’d endured hours of countless awkward conversations and events she couldn’t wait to leave.
The worst part is that he knows it’s why she apologizes for everything. It didn’t matter how much she tried to look ‘normal’ she couldn’t get it right and people were mad at her for it.
“I will leave it up to you, but say the word and I’ll have us out of here in an hour.”
~
Oscar had half a mind just to feign sickness and tell them they can’t go. The girl pacing the room had yet to get dressed or pull the plug and say she doesn’t want to go.
“I say wear something comfortable and scandalous.” He leans back on the bed with a smirk.
“Since when are you so evil? And are you crazy? I’d get eaten by judgmental stares.”
“Let them stare. You deserve to be comfortable in whatever you wear without feeling judged and preyed on.”
~
They took a separate car from her parents. Partially because they wanted to leave early, mostly because in case of emergency they had an escape vehicle.
He could feel her trying to self soothe in the passenger seat. She’d finally settled for her favorite pair of pants and his sweatshirt. Comfort clothes for a hard situation definitely seemed like the best option.
He held her hand as they walked to the front door and stopped right outside. “Remember you’re not stuck. We can leave anytime you want.” She nods her head appreciatively, then they step through the doors.
He felt like the were underdressed. Which is an absolutely ridiculous notion because it’s eight in the morning and he’d rather be asleep. How these people look dressed for a ball at this hour is beyond him.
Oscar spots her family amongst the sea of people and weaves them into their vicinity.
“Y/N, hi! How are you? It’s been so long!” Chirps an elderly woman who awkwardly embraces the girl. She’s still as a board and yet the lady doesn’t get the hint.
“I’m alright.” She smiles politely.
“And who’s this young man?”
“My boyfriend, Oscar.”
He reaches out his hand to her and she shakes it. “It’s nice to meet you.” He offers his media coached smile.
“Oh are you two planning on settling down? Having kids?”
She shuffles awkwardly looking for a response. She hates invasive questions like these. Now would normally be where an inappropriate joke about Lando practically being their child would go but she thinks that might be wrong. But what’s even right in this situation?
“Not currently. I travel for work majority of the year so it would be difficult to start a family.” She’s grateful Oscar knows to manage conversation.
“Oh well… that’s to bad.” Then the woman shuffles away.
“I told you it’s bad.”
“I see your point. Did you know her?”
“No but apparently everyone is allowed to talk to you like that even if you just know a persons name because we’re a ‘church family’.
As they wait for the service to start, they pass the time by people watching. Snickering at the obvious fake smiles and perfect families people show off on Sunday mornings.
They are rudely interrupted by a male probably in his forties. “Excuse me, I have got to ask, are you two siblings?”
He must be newer, she thinks to herself, it’s not like she’s been gone that long. She shakes her head at the man, one hand in Oscar’s the other inside the sweatshirt pocket. “No sir, we’re dating actually.”
“That’s a real shock. He’s a keeper if that’s how you dress all the time and he still chose you.” His comment is directed at her. The social analysis kicking in. Is this sarcasm? Or maybe a joke she doesn’t get? Is he being serious?
“What do you mean by that?” Oscar is quick to ask back. Again, saving her from most likely saying something she shouldn’t.
“Most guys enjoy when a girl wears appropriate female clothing. I’m just saying she’s lucky to have you if this is what she wears all the time.” He eyes her up and down. “Would be prettier in a dress I reckon.”
“Nope. She’s pretty in everything she wears.” Oscar is dragging her off in the opposite direction before turning around. “Also, sir, I’m the lucky one.”
The service is long and boring. The two pass notes back and forth like they are in high school. Though they aren’t necessarily trying to hide the fact they are doing it.
When it’s over, they quickly tell her parents they are heading out because truthfully, the girl is in the verge of a meltdown from the over stimulation.
They get almost to the door before being stopped again by the last person she wanted to ever see again. Her old youth pastor.
“Y/N! I didn’t think you were ever coming back!” He goes to hug her but she steps back. Almost using Oscar as a barrier. “Awe don’t be like that.” He pouts.
“We were actually just heading out.” Oscar steps in. He didn’t like how the man is eyeing her. It’s uncomfortable for him and even more so for her.
“And you are…?”
“Oscar, her boyfriend.”
A look of shock spreads across his face. “That’s gooier to hear. I didn’t think she’d ever find someone.” Oscar doesn’t hesitate to use his sarcasm and over expressive facial expressions as he feigns curiosity.
“Why’s that?”
“I could never get her to shut up about things that weren’t important. And after the lengthy discussion we had with the board about her argumentative attitude with her male superiors, I just thought it would never happen.”
She didn’t tell him about that one. Oscar can see out of the corner of his eye how her head drops in shame. He doesn’t let go of her hand. “So you work with kids but when one doesn’t act the way you want you take to abusive behaviors? Glad to see a church full of people who are supposed to be loving are letting their youth get hurt by adults.” He says launder then necessary, but it gets his point across because people heard him.
He turns in his heels and places a protective arm around her waist as they walk to the car.
He knows she’s overstimulated, so he tries lets her go at her own pace when they get back to her parents house. The spare key still in the same place it’s been for years, so no need to wait outside.
In the safety of the room, she latches herself onto the Aussie. “I’m sorry.”
He holds her and does his best to soothe her. “You’ve nothing to apologize for. Those people are sick, I swear. I’m sorry you had to go through all that.”
“That meeting was the worst day of my life. Sitting in a room with a bunch of older men telling me how to behave. They made some jokes that they shouldn’t have and told me I’d never have a good life if I kept acting like I had been.” She’s wailing now.
Oscar can practically hear his hear shatter. How could people be so ignorant and blind?
“They said that my autism isn’t an excuse and that I need to try harder. Then they said maybe one of them can take me under their wing and show me how to treat a man right. I was barely eighteen.”
They spent the night like that. Her crying into his shoulder and him trying to calm her down. She fell asleep in his arms and he didn’t have the heart to move her and risk waking her up.
He couldn’t fathom someone telling her her brain being different means she’s not good enough. It’s what makes her unique in his eyes. How could someone not love the way her eyes light up when she talks about those interests that she never gets tired of. How her honesty and ability to stand her ground make conversations with her never dull.
Oscar leans down and kisses her head. “I don’t care who says you aren’t good enough, they are lying. You are for more then enough and I feel so special that you love me and are willing to share those pieces of yourself with me.”

I love terumob. They're so funny. Name another dynamic in which:
They start off by one of them beating the shit out of the other and strangling them to unconciousness. Despite this, the one who wins, by wide margin even, is actually the one who got strangled, because it just so happens that he has an all powerful eldritch entity locked inside him that tears everything to pieces and flings the other into the stratosphere in response. Y'know, as one does
The next time they meet, they acknowledge none of this, and instead immediately act buddy buddy to save the strangled kid's emo brother from a terrorist organisation.
And oh yeah, the terrorist organisation is a thing now. Apparently the one who got flung to the stratosphere, the blond one, knows them because they've been targetting him? And he just lives alone?? At 14??? Where are his parents
Which is to say, not surprising that this middle schooler is perfectly ready to torture a grown man, actually. If you think about it a little bit.
And its funny because the one who got strangled, bowl cut guy, is like, real moral right? Like thats his whole thing - he just really wants to be a good person, and he wants others to be good people as well. And yet, here he is, perfectly content to hang out with someone who doesnt even blink at potentially murdering a guy.
The murdering torturing middle schooler is also a delinquent leader and a popular kid btw, did you know. Well, he was at least, until he went dramatic in the opposite direction and now dresses like if a claires waste bin and a haystack had a baby. And bowl cut is decidedly, Not any of that. He's the most normal guy ever actually.
They literally couldn't be further from each other in personality.
How are they friends.
They make no sense <3
And yet maybe they make sense after all because bowlcut wants to be better, and because of him, haystack also wants to be better. Maybe they both see each other for what they could never be. Maybe they both see in each other the best versions of them. Maybe it's the self recognition through the horribly, extremely other. Maybe it's the easy acceptance. Maybe it's the self growth.
Maybe they make sense after all.
But in the end, over all this mushy shit, it's just extremely funny, that the world's most arrogant, immoral and prideful middle schooler, with fancy hair and neat clothes and many girlfriends and flourishing prospects can get literally sent through the clouds One time by an autistic kid in a bowlcut and immediately decide to turn his whole life around, centering on the axis of this one average, not-average boy - adopting his philosophy, ruining his wardrobe, abandoning his heterosexuality, while underneath it remaining still the boy with no parents and no intrinsic morals and no real humble bone in his body. Because if he's not the best, he's gotta be the best at aknowledging he's not the best. And he's so funny.
They're silly.
And i love them.

Related to my prev post:
I don't give two shits if Bruce is written like a bad dad if it means we get good writing for everybody else since i think minorities are more important than a white cishet male nepotism baby unlike his butch lesbian counterpart who's judaism is an actual fundamental part of her character and since he's been written as abusive so consistently over the years it's in-character anyway
Dick can be both bi/pan and demisexual and there's more evidence for the latter than the former so making him be sexually loose is aspec erasure and mspec stereotyping and he dosen't have a thing for redheads,he has a thing for black women and to me the only guy he seems to like romantically is Roy and that adds on to his demisexuality since they're childhood best friends
'Catholic guilt Jason' is a shit headcanon that misses the major and critical part of him being Red Hood that he didn't feel the slightest bit bad about killing people and the point of his redemption was learning remorse, afrolatino Jason isn't based on stereotyping but him filling out so many black and latino cultural aspects and if any hcs for him are stereotyping it's the one that he's a slut because he's a very handsome and hot and cute goth punk man
Tim is perfect the way he is and dosen't need power ups or to get 'punished' for the oh so horrible crime of being a realistic teenage boy,he's not JUST huge a loser or a super cool dude but both at once and it's bad writing and fetishistic to ignore his wide range of relathionships that consists of mostly of women to make him a 'guys guy'
Stephanie is heavily autistic and bpd-coded so she's far from a 'normie',much less an 'it girl' but people see blonde hair and blue eyes and throw away everything else about her because that's all she's worth to them or call her an abuser and a pick me just like they do irl bpdtistic women and she's also canonically pastel/indie punk and a Team Mom but gets her presentation switched to basic and made out to be a womanchild instead
Cass had a million times more moral conflict than Jason ever did, would never in her LIFE wanna be feminine even in the chinese way and would be butch in it instead, turning her scattered speech into sign language is ableist not unlike(but not on the same level as)changing Babs' type of wheelchair disability and she'd be a better Batman than any male character in existense
Duke is only a golden child in the sense he has a yellow motif and is as disruptive and authentically quirky as his siblings,We Are Robin is a better team than the canon Outlaws, his powers are cooler than any Al-Ghul ones you could come up with,he has more femme energy than Tim does and Carrie Kelley ain't shit and only gets brought back to replace him because DC is antiblack
Damian's introduction mentality was a result of not only child abuse but also psychological grooming to get him to dehumanize himself and all his bigoted comments are explained either by him being like 12 or his writers trying to demonize brown people and anybody who thinks he's a bad person is a super-sized pissbaby with no sympathy for kids of color, shipping him with Jon is making a bisexual man into a ped0phile and Jay is good even if aging Jon up wasn't and he should be friends with Maya,Suren,Nell,Colin,Kathy,Maps,Tai and Miles,Gwen,Peni,Pavitr,Hobie and Margo from Atsv and Nico and Hazel from Pjo instead of Billy Batson or Danny Fenton or ANY Mcu characters
Talia is super hot but should be drawn in accurate arab clothes instead 'sexy assasian gear'(not that these two can't co-exist but you get what i mean),her personality is extremely rich and her stories are mega interesting, she's a good mom to Damian and literally never 'took advantage of Jason' seeing as That Scene In Lost Days was decanonized by it's writer who said it was ooc for her on his part, she should've been a mom figure to Stephanie in her Robin Days too since they would get along and she deserved her own run where she takes over Lexcorp to transform it into a force for good and become Superfam-adjacent to free herself from having only male connections

in Defence of Creek ( warning if your an Avid Creek Hater you may not want to read this 😂😂 )
youtube
ps. Branch will Hair strangle some guy he Barely knew who he didn't even care about for betraying them but doesn't do the same to his Jerkass Brothers who let him down his whole life 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.
anyway onto the topic at hand 😂😂😂😂
Creek gets an unfair Rap in my opinion sure he technically betrayed the village but when you examine the story of the first film he literally had no other choice.
as there's no other scenario that didn't end with him being Horribly Eaten as soon as he was picked by Chef for Gristle Jr to eat and taken out of the cage his fate was sealed.
unlike the rest of the snack pack he didn't have the option of sitting around waiting on the off chance Poppy would Rescue them.
we see in the Betrayal scene he was literally in Gristle's mouth before he finally played the only card he could and said he'd do what ever they wanted him to do.
and from then on he was kept in Gristle's locket around his neck which I have to say was Horrible poor guy was stuffed in their with no space or light or even air given how tight it was.
and he was kept there until eventually being moved out of the locket and put into Chef's waist bag just before the snack pack got the Locket from Gristle and were then captured by Chef.
and from that point like Creek himself said there was literally nothing else he could do that wouldn't result in him being killed straight away by Chef.
this is what rubs me the wrong way about the movie trying to make him into a villain he has no real agency in the betrayal it'd be a little easier for me to Judge him.
if he was kept in the cage with the Rest of the Snack Pack so he had the option of just having faith in Poppy someone he claimed to care about.
coming to save them but instead he took the more cowardly action and offered to sell everyone out early on in order to save himself then I feel it'd work a little better.
but having him be plucked from the cage early on and literally only betray everyone when he was on the verge of being eaten just makes him a victim in my eyes.
like I'm sorry but he can't be blamed too much for anything he does at that point he's just a normal civilian who's life was put in danger by negligent leaders ( cough Peppy cough ).
he technically wasn't obligated to die then and there and the whole situation with him selling out the Village is a classic Trolley Problem sure its easy to Judge.
from the outside but when we're on the verge of being gruesomely murdered who's to say what each of us would do in the moment to stay alive.
basically its Chef's actions and she's the one to blame not Creek dude was a literal Hostage who had been kidnaped Humiliated by being shoved in a taco and sprinkled with spicy stuff.
and then nearly eaten and then crammed into a tiny locket for presumably Hours and then crammed into a waist bag like how is this guy not the victim here?
and some people do like to point to how he behaved about the whole thing telling Poppy he's doing it for her but I'm sorry that doesn't change anything in my eyes.
sure its an unusual reaction but its also an unusual situation and I see it more as him weakly attempting to justify it to himself since he does admit he wishes there was another way but is promptly reminded by Chef that there isn't.
his Reaction isn't Great but it doesn't change the situation and make him some pure evil person.
a little autistic maybe? given the weird response to an emotional situation he has but yeah it doesn't make him worse in my eyes.
basically to end things the film as well as the fandom that villainise him seem to basically be saying that he should have just laid down and accepted his gruesome fate the first time.
and the movie even ends on a cruel irony of still being eaten along with Chef.
which for Chef is ironic in a karmic way but for Creek its just kinda sad tbh so the film's saying his death was decided at the start and he's a villain for not accepting it the first time.
and as punishment he meets the same fate in the end anyway.
I thought this was a Trolls film not a Final Destination film lol.
anyway even tho its separate cannon I was Happy when he was Revealed to still be alive in TBGO sure I feel his Return could have been written way better.
but Regardless I'm Glad he's still alive he didn't deserve to die and also the movie cannon never contradicts the tv show cannon in Terms of Creek's survival.
so yeah he could very well still be alive in the movies as well sorry Haters 😅😅😅😅.

HOT TAKE TOURNAMENT
TOURNAMENT OVERTIME #182
Tumblr media
Submission 527
the Barbie movie (2023) was horrible
[SUBMITTED JUSTIFICATION UNDER THE CUT - PLEASE READ]
Propaganda is encouraged!
Also, remember to reblog your favourite polls for exposure!
Submitted justification:
unfortunately this is a dead serious take of mine. that movie was a story of a horrible tragedy portrayed as justice. and the subtle violent radfem undertones were deeply uncomfortable. my reasons for disliking it are very complicated and personal, so I'm going to try and keep this brief and try to avoid saying anything too charged.
i understand liking it— it was a very fun movie! the way they did the practical effects and props and setting were all genius and very cool!
but.. the way they handled Ken and his struggles felt extremely minimizing, cruel, and violent. I've *been* the reject kid before. I *know* what that's like. I've been humiliated and degraded before for being too much, for having ADHD, for being autistic, for wanting to be included in friend groups that didn't want me.
ken's story is a *tragedy* of a person who dared to ask for love and inclusion, who dared to ask over and over until the only option left to him was to be made into a villain for it. and instead of realizing that maybe, just maybe, this was a cry for help... that maybe, this was the last straw in a long long long line of instances of horribly cruel social bullying and humiliation.... that maybe Ken never wanted to hurt anyone, that maybe he just wanted everyone to see how much he was hurting, that maybe he never wanted power or violence, but empathy instead.... instead of considering any of at, the movie has Barbie and her friends *laugh* at his suffering, and watch him on the brink of tears with the grim satisfaction of a bully that got away with it.
i came away from this movie thinking, what should Ken have done better to avoid this? what could he have done to be truly accepted? what was the "good" choice, if what he actually chose was actually so evil?
and the answer is, nothing. he was spending his entire life serving and worshipping a group that wanted him quiet, polite, and dead. from personal experience, this is the kind of friend group that would probably find it at best a personal irritant, if he had attempted suicide.
this movie was so hurtful. it really felt like they said "people like you are better off dead or behaving like perfect mindless dolls, because when you try to get what you want, you just bother the people around you." conform or else.
i know people get icky when people claim that misandry exists, but.... consider the plot of this same movie, if ken had been one of barbie's girl friends. or if ken had been a trans girl. or hell, even a trans girl egg. i just see people only praising this movie and... no one seems to acknowledge how unnecessarily, brutally cruel they were to Ken, and how little empathy he received both from the general audience and from the writers and Barbie herself.

Round 1 Part 7 Poll 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
She's has the worst of times to match her morals, ok? There's that but Locked Tomb spoilers ahead if you want more. There it goes ...
She is above average but not exceptional unless you count she is the daughther of the Chief of the Admiralty. But onto what she has done/suffered : first she gets her lieutenant (they work in matched pairs in the story ) beaten up when she put her against what she thought was the weakest of the group that turned out to be more powerful than anyone could predict. Then she got said lieutenant killed horribly by a mistake she made.
Got captured by the enemies that do not let her die and instead use her special habilities to maneuver a ship . The woman she's been pining for twelve years is also there trying to convince her to deflect and change sides or at least let her take the place of her dead lieutenant to be by her side but she does neither preferring to suffer in silence.
Finally she was taken to another location where she was tortured for six months due being exposed to a blue orb that drive those with her habilities into madness .
All this because of a misplaced sense of loyalty to an imperializing emperor and she doesn't even have her own ship ! "
God's most autistic soldier <3 literally he is god's soldier he's the chosen one. He was chosen from birth to either destroy the sea or flood the planet because the sun and moon goddesses couldn't figure out if they wanted more land or sea on their planet so they picked some guy to do it for them. Gillion also collects titles. Here's some of them: Champion of the Undersea; Hero of the Deep; The One; Singer Songwriter for Gillion and the Tidestriders' hit single The Hole In Your Heart; Paramount Champion; Walking Fish; Moisture Master; Eater of Grass, Beater of Ass. That's probably enough for now ahah he has wayy more. Also he is a fish man (triton)

❆❆❆❆❆❆❆❆
Holiday cheer was important for Wanda. Especially when it was her turn to watch over boys, Christmas this year had been met with an odd bump in the road. Wanda had a new partner and this was the first holiday you'd actually have to spend with the kids. A few hours or in passing was fine, but Wanda had yet to learn how well you'd do with them the entire break. Wanda spent weeks trying to find something you and her boys had in common. After enough snooping and nervousness, she settled on a simple advent calendar. Sure it was a bit childish, but Wanda was at the end of her rope.
When she placed the calendar on the dinner table, there wasn't as much immediate excitement as she wanted. The embarrassment had almost completely taken over before she could even explain herself. "I mean, we don't have to do it if you don't want to. I just thought it'd be something nice to do…" Your partner began to fidget and doubt quickly fell over her face. "You know, as a…family."
A lightbulb immediately went off over your head. "Oh, babe, of course, we'll do this! Right?" You subtly tried looking over to the boys for confirmation that they'd at least play alone. Instead, you got something much better. Two sets of eyes were wide and bubbling with excitement underneath them. "This thing is huge! There's no way we won't have fun with it."
Tommy nodded along. "Yeah, that's at least enough Legos to last two weeks!" He reached for the box only to have his mother snatch it away."I won't build them all by myself! I know how to share Legos now!"
Billy practically threw himself over the table to reach the box. "Yeah, we promise to be fair!" His little hands wiggled and made grabby hands at the box. "No one's gonna be left out, we promise!"
Wanda shook her head. The gitters finally faded and she realized she had bigger issues. Her children were horribly impatient. "No, we'll open it one box at a time until Christmas. Then you guys can put these wherever you want on Christmas day." She laughed at the disappointed groans from the three of you. "It's only 24 days, that's better than the new year's one."
You cleared your throat and sat upright. "Your mom's right. It's more satisfying if you do it the right way. Despite your attempts at seeming like a responsible, well-rounded adult, you were clearly just as unhinged about the calendar as the boys were. "The excitement of a new set will last you all day anyways."
The boys looked at each other and simply shook their heads.
The days until Christmas ticked by and you and the twins were having an incredibly difficult time practicing self-control. Every day without fail, you or the twins would be caught staring too long for Wanda's comfort and be pulled away from the calendar before you ruined the Christmas spirit.
It only lasted a week before the twins gave up and ran to you with a plan that would surely get you nothing but coal for Christmas. You tried deterring them and their sticky fingers. However, you were easily swayed. Partly because you were just as impatient as the boys, but because you got something much more important in the process.
The twins were opening up to you. They led you to a room filled with Lego sets and books of all kinds.
"Holy sh- crap. How long did it take you guys to put all these together?" You looked down at the Lego city in awe. Trains, buses, and all kinds of shops. Almost all the space on the base plate had been taken up. "Wow, this really is something, but why do you want to break into the calendar if you have all this stuff ?"
"Because we don't have any people," Tommy exasperated. He grabbed your hand and pointed to all the small chairs and seats in cars with no tiny brick people to occupy them. "It's like a ghost town, but we know all the people are in the box!"
Billy nodded. "Even if there isn't, they'll be cool Christmas decorations and that'll make it look less dead!" The boy grabbed your other hand and hovered over their miniature city with you. "We can just open them to plan and sneak them back in every day! Mom wouldn't even notice if we're quiet."
You scratched the back of your head. Wanda would probably kill you for encouraging such naughty behavior, but bonding with your stepkids was important. "Alright I'm in, but not tonight. We have dinner with your uncle and he's really bad at hiding stuff from your mom."
❆❆❆❆❆❆❆❆
The next night, the plan had gone into motion. Once your beloved partner had fallen asleep, you snuck out the bed and woke up the boys as gently as you could. Billy hadn't even fallen asleep, but Tommy was like a rock at the bottom of the ocean. After enough poking and shaking, he'd awoken and the rest of your plan went smoothly.
You three tiptoed past Wanda's room and down the stairs where your treasure awaited.
"Okay, we're just going to look so we can figure out where you guys are gonna put everything." That sentiment had lasted all of a minute after you opened the first box of the night. "Awe, it's a little Christmas tree and a lumberjack!" Without even thinking, you opened the plastic packaging and began putting it together. The boys couldn't stop themselves either.
The entire calendar had been completed without noticing. It had started a Lego frenzy almost. Instead of feeling regret for your lack of self-control, you just kept going. The twins had given life to their Lego city, but the work was far from over.
"You can help us build the train we got last week! Dad gave it to us as an early Christmas gift." Billy opened a drawer. "We kinda already started it, but we didn't think you'd wanna help."
"Dude, are you kidding me? I'd love to help with this!" Your excited shout was quickly followed by a knock on the door frame.
"Well, too bad you'll be in the naughty list jail for the rest of the year," Wanda's raspy morning voice filled the room and marked the end of your Christmas heist. "You boys better get snuggled in bed before I call back up!" She pointed at her children who quickly ran off to their rooms to avoid her Christmas-themed wrath. "I expected this from them, but you? Really?"
You turned back around with a nervous smile on your face. "At least we're bonding?" You held up a piece of the train you were working on, hoping it would lessen your jail sentence. "They're even letting me help, it was a necessary misbehavior!"
Wanda sighed and crossed her arms. "Get in bed and then I'll think about reducing your sentence." Her voice was stern, but the smile on her face showed how happy she was.
You smiled and kissed her cheek. "Fine, just don't make me shovel the driveway alone, again."

Excuse me, do you mind doing headcanons about the first years (Ace, Deuce, Jack, Epel and Sebek (and Grim if you want to add him to the mix)) with Autistic Yuu? Because I read the one with the Housewardens before and I was wondering if you could try doing the same with the others.
Yuu is Autistic! Pt 2
✨Feat. The First Years; Ace Trappola, Deuce Spade, Jack Howl, Epel Felmier and Sebek Zigvolt.✨
How do the first years react to Yuu’s stims, sensory issues and behaviors?
They/Them pronouns for reader. MC is referred to as Yuu.
Tumblr media
Autism to Autism communication
Ace probably didn’t even know what autism was until he learned it from Yuu. He takes all those Are You Autistic? quizzes online because huh, he does a lot of the things they do too, should probably get that checked out—
Ace acts like he doesn’t care but he LOVES it when Yuu is rambling about their interests to him. He gets lowkey jealous if they ramble to anyone else.
Flamingo feathers feel nice! Ace always brings a few to Yuu after tending to the birds so they can have the Good Sensory. If Ace notices Yuu getting restless or overwhelmed in class he’ll casually slide a flamingo feather or a stim toy over to them to calm down. Luckily, Crewel also knows of Yuu’s autism otherwise he’d think Ace was passing notes.
“Hey, prefect! Guess what I got? Tada! A box of feathers just for you! The flamingos started molting today so I saved some for ya! Hehe, you look pretty cute playing with ‘em—I MEAN, I DIDN’T SAY CUTE—“
Tumblr media
Deuce finds out about Yuu’s autism on accident. While working on his blastcycle, Deuce turned the motor on without warning and it startled Yuu so bad they covered their ears and started crying. Deuce felt HORRIBLE he had no idea a loud noise would upset them so much.
Luckily for him, Trey came to the rescue and comforted Yuu. Deuce gets all the advice he can from Trey so he can be more careful in the future.
Deuce personally buys a pair of noise canceling headphones from Sam’s store for Yuu. That way they can protect their sensitive ears on this campus full of rowdy boys.
Something he loves to do with Yuu is studying. They have a hard time focusing so he’s happy to be a support for them. Even if they both get distracted.
“Hey! Keep it down over there, will ya?! Are you alright, prefect? Here, put your headphones on. Let’s do that breathing thing Trey taught me, ok? In for four seconds… hold for seven seconds… out for eight seconds…”
Tumblr media
Jack knows very well of Yuu’s autism. They’re always playing with the fur on his and Leona’s tails because of the fluffy texture. He spends a lot of time with Yuu clinging to his tail or playing with it like a kitten.
He loves the happy sounds Yuu makes when they’re playing with his tail! It makes his tail wag and that just makes them happier.
If Yuu has an oral fixation, Jack is always worried about if they’re stimming safely. If he picks up on any lip or nail biting, he’ll give them some gum to chew on instead. He’s currently saving money to get Yuu a sensory chew toy necklace so they aren’t harming their mouth or teeth.
One time a bunch of guys tried to sneak up on Yuu while they were playing with grass and scare them, knowing full well it would result in them crying hysterically. All it took was one intimidating look from Jack to send those bastards running.
“Hm? What’s the bone for? Oh, I chew on them to strengthen my teeth. Plenty of beastmen do it. No, you’re gonna hurt your teeth it you bite this, Yuu. Stick to your teether, ok?”
Tumblr media
Epel once heard Yuu bluntly tell Vil that all the makeup in the world couldn’t hide what a rude, awful person he was on the inside. He has been in love ever since. Just like Deuce, Epel is often making sure Yuu has their noise canceling headphones when they’re around loud places. If Yuu gets anxious or overwhelmed by crowds, Epel is quick to lead them away and help them calm down.
Epel adores hand flapping! It warms his heart to see Yuu flap their hands when they’re excited, happy, or just because they want to. They remind him of a butterfly!
Epel notices that Yuu tends to mouth off more when they’re in a bad mood. That usually lead to trouble so, if he sees his friend is in a mood he’ll leave them little treats and trinkets he knows will make them happy.
A few of the apple products made by Epel’s family become some of Yuu’s same foods. Whenever he gets a shipment, they’re the first to get some delicious treats! Grim can wait, you just ate you are NOT starving.
“What’s that face for? Oh, that apple was too soft? Ugh, the apples in the lunchroom aren’t that good anyway. C’mon, ah got plenty’o better tastin’ ones that are crisper and not as squishy. You’ll love ‘em!”
Tumblr media
Autism to Autism Communication Part 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Honestly, he might be a bit too intense for Yuu. Especially after the way he yelled at them for touching Malleus’s horns for the Good Sensory bumps on them. He’s just mad because he wants to touch the horns too but Malleus won’t let him.
But, after a firm scolding from Lilia and Silver, Sebek tries to be more cautious about how he behaves around Yuu… He just stands there absolutely silent and stares at them while they do their thing. It’s terrifying.
Eventually he realizes they’re a pretty decent person to ramble to! They are a simple human that takes interest in the Great Malleus Draconia after all, so they’re the perfect person to ramble about the great mage to! When they actually manage to pay attention that is lol
“HUMAN! Don’t dilly-dally, you’ll be late for cla—oh, oh right, inside voice! My deepest apologies! Mhm…. …. …. Hm? Master Malleus allowed you to touch his horns?! Again?! *sigh* You have no idea how lucky you’ve got it, dear human…”

STEAMROLLS IN. dust clears and everytjing is perfectly fine except for me who has been steamrolled. mineru or purah hcs……,,,
Tumblr media
HEHEHEH. HEH
WEL. I will be doing purah since I haven't thought about mineru too much yet I just think she's neat
so. in general I think purah is a bit of an oddball, not just in how she dresses but also how she behaves and her opinions on a lot of things. she's brutally honest which is a characteristic she shares with impa, except uh. well impa basically only became that brutally honest in her old age and more or less held her tongue to an extent when she was younger. this isn't completely why I headcanon that purah is autistic (I just like headcanoning characters as nd because it's relatable to me sometimes) but it is part of the reason lmao
her and robbie are childhood friends! they latched onto each other when they were like. eight. and they still keep in pretty close contact in botw! robbie and purah have pretty much always understood their relationship to be completely platonic though they have been teased/questioned about it only for them to look confused and go "um no we are besties what are you talking about "
speaking of that. we're going to go into "stuff i just made up and have no evidence for" territory. but I like to think that even before the whole prophecy thing started and the divine beasts and guardians were excavated purah had a rudimentary understanding of ancient sheikah tech from poking around where she shouldn't have and experimenting. i really don't think the sheikah tribe a century ago had any interest in it for the most part. in fact i think they kinda. discouraged it. heavily. they still know the legends, and before the yiga clan emerges they were basically a boogeyman for young children—an almost comically exaggerated evil (and they turned out to be that way lmao.) so purah got a lot of "you're going to become like the yiga clan if you don't quit messing around with things you shouldn't!" when she was younger and robbie got punished along with her as sort of an accomplice/enabler lmao. they were not well liked and often kept to themselves.
yeah then the whole "the thing you need lies buried underground" or whatever happened. suddenly purah isn't the Freak Child Who Must be Punished but basically a prodigy and their only hope and incredible and stuff. this told purah and robbie one thing primarily: none of this praise could be trusted. the moment the tech stopped being relevant they would be discarded again, so they had to do everything in their power to stay useful and relevant. the guardians and divine beasts becoming corrupted was a huge blow to them both, especially robbie. also yeah the general consensus amongst the tribe after the calamity was that sheikah tech sucked now and though they didn't...prevent people from messing around with it it's still frowned upon to this day. that's kind of why symin never went back lmao. both he and purah do visit from time to time but mostly just to see their families.
speaking of family. purah adores her grand-niece. paya calls her auntie purah! purah's somewhat closed off about this. also she's worried about paya taking impa's place as chieftain because of what a doormat she is. she doesn't think impa prepared her very well and probably thinks cado or dorian should become chieftain instead lmao. (if we're going to talk abt totk, i think purah got really pissed at impa for just running off and leaving kakariko to get crushed by falling ruins and giving up all her responsibility to paya like seriously wtf. impa. one of your closest advisors/guards got their house crushed by a fancy rock and of course those dipshit hylian researchers aren't helping paya doesn't know what to do go back and HELP FIX IT. AAAAAAAAA)
hopefully i won't get more insatiably pissed about totk on main. but oh girl purah is not happy during the events of that game. hiding eyebags with makeup kinda unhappy. though i also think she has a horrible sleep schedule in general. i just dont really think she has any reason to be i mean yeah she managed to scrounge up what was left of her life's work even though most of it vanished without an explanation. so again she tries to stay relevant by helping develop the towers and the purah pad (minimally.) she's spearheading the development of a new town that I'm assuming will probably make an effort to restore castle town when it gets bigger. she is desperate for something to do, some way to be beautiful and useful and cool again, but she gets this looming feeling in the back of her head that none of it will last, and she fears for herself and her tribe, hoping to appeal to hylians and princess zelda as much as possible to avoid disaster.
did i mention i think she's very particular about her appearance? cause she is. she masks a LOT, and she does not like looking bad or foolish or weak to anyone. I mean she is fine with being weird, likes pushing that boundary to see what's palatable for other people, and tries to befriend and protect people who she thinks might be ostracized, but again, she fears not being palatable. she doesn't want to be bullied or shunned, and she wants to look like nothing affects her.
i also think she understates how much she and impa didn't get along as kids. they do generally get along better now, but they try not to step on each other's toes and they've tried to be there for each other during hard times. they love each other very much but yeah they do not touch...sensitive issues
her and josha have sort of a child and her weird aunt thing going on. josha just kinda latched onto purah randomly at some point purah was like "oh no" internally but befriended josha and yeah
she's not completely agnostic but she's about as close as you can get. does not care about religion and does what she does because she cares about other people
oh also she's a lesbian

Just watched Son of Batman for the first time, with my parents. It was pretty good! I kept exclaiming about how cute Damian was. Talia was pretty awesome. Damian was pretty awesome, it was funny how he cut Dick up. It was nothing like RSOB, instead introducing Damian with a lot of the plot elements of his original introduction but without Talia as a villain and more compliant with rebirth canon. Young Bruce was literally just Damian with grey blue eyes, and yet Bruce didn't immediately believe that Damian was his son? Weird.
Talia and Damian were very autistic and I now understand brutalia way more than I've ever understood batcat.
Also we watched it because we had been watching Amazon's Invincible and the first episode was SO horrible I knew that SoB could not possibly be worse, and I was right, SoB was so much better. Do not watch invincible I'm serious! Or at least look into it before watching. Ffs.

God's TD:R 7 is sonimprotsnt to me as someone who is in Bernard's situation.
People will always rell you to just cut them out of your life or go no contact like that's easy simple. It's not. In fact, it's near impossible if you have family you deeply care about that you would never be able to see again if you cut your parent(s) from your life. There's financial support you could be cut off from, benefits, health insurance (luckily benefits and health insurance are now under my own control and name thanks to my job) and a multitude of other things.
And above everything else, despite everything, you still love them.
It's hard, it's rough, especially when you've been put down and gaslit your entire life.
Everything was my fault, I was stupid, useless, a cockroach, a pig, worthless, less than dirt. The only thing I was good for was as a future live in nurse/caregiver for my mother (she's going straight to a home, that bitch decided I'd have power of attorney). I was nothing but her doll, her plaything.
When Bernard said he knew that's what his dad felt, I felt that. Because I know what I am to my mom. When Bernard still went back for them, despite everything, I k ow I would've done rhe same for my mother.
Relationships with abusive parents is so, so messy, and so, so frustrating and heartbreaking. When I got into a car accident the day before I moved out and broke my shoulder blade (luckily no major injuries besides some bruising) all she cared about was going home and changing out of sweats so she'd look good in public. If I hadn't thought ahead and asked my roommate to come with us, we would not have gone to the hospital. My entire life she called me dramatic or "not really autistic". (I have been diagnosed with autism dyslexia and ADD/ADHD three separate times in my life because of this) or "stupid" when bringing up my chronic issues. Her favorite phrase was "You're young!" Before asking what I had to be depressed about or why would I have chronic pain when I'm so young, or hownim so spoiled and kucky why wouldji be sad about anything?
This is not me saying physical abuse is less bad than emotional and/or verbal, BTW, they're all abuse and they're all equally horrible, but for me it was the emotional and Bernal abuse that hurt me more.
I understand Bernard, because it's so, so heartbreakingly real, and it's such a relief that a comic (well, any media source really but this is a comic) is taking this issue seriously instead of trying to play verbal and emotional abuse off as a joke or not real. Because it's very real, and it cuts deeper than anything else, because it sticks with you forever. My physical wounds healed, but my mental ones still scar me.

alright. (humanized) Octonauts headcanons for day 2. My hands hurt :(
TW: MENTIONS OF INJURY, MEDICAL, MENTAL ILLNESS AND TRAUMA, EMETOPHOBIA, AND EATING DISORDERS⚠️‼️‼️
Captain Barnacles 🐻‍❄️ -
- I actually don't have many for him, but he goes by he/him
- him and tweak are very good friends but tweak scares him sometimes and he wont even lie to you about that
- MLM
-he's autistic and very routine oriented, he's the autistic people go "but you aren't autistic" about unless you yourself are autistic
-he has all his badges displayed in his room and it's one of his comfort items
Tweak 🐰 -
- I will not get over the fact that she's Floridian, transgender she/her
- lesbian, her and dashi talk about girls
- actually on barnacles age level, she has crows feet by her eyes and grey in the sides of her hair
- did y'all know she glows in the dark it's the funniest thing to me???? like why??? why does she glow in the dark???? this is book canon this isn't even a headcanon.
- is certified in welding and has a degree in engineering. She found the classes easier than most should
- Ranger Marsh knows she's lesbian and will often attempt to relate by just,, "hey that girls pretty, you could date that one" which almost always turns into tweak going into a laughing fit
- she still has very keen hearing from her searching for animals with dad days
Peso 🐧 -
- he/they, prefers they most days
- they read manga and NO I won't elaborate, its nestled right in on his book shelf besides they're lengthy medical books.
-medical bag comfort item, often plays with the latches
- flappy hands stim, saying this solely because the flappity flippers exclamation and I'm right
- the noises they make when they bandage are neccesary for focus, no one knows why, it's like a stim for them
- hangs out with kwazii a lot and enjoys his stories, actually very convienent considering they're almost always around when kwazii is injured, which happens frequently
- medical special interest, will go into gross details if you don't stop him
- surprisingly unaffected by gore! It will make him shiver a bit if it's really bad but due to being a medic he can remain pretty unaffected by it
- asian-hispanic, which sounds like a generational trauma nightmare but they're actually doing quite well
- horrible anxiety but actually pretty okay with social anxiety, mostly afraid of getting hurt not talking to people, can actually be very social in the right groups
-pansexual
Dashi 🐶 -
- she/they, bisexual, has a horrible problem with anorexia
- has a bunch of mystery books in a box under her bed that branch out from a bunch from one author to a bunch of random ones
- keeps one of those diaries with a lock on it and is the only person on planet earth who can keep track of the keys for it
- a bit of a clean freak around her bedroom, sprays surfaces every few days and cleans up often
- Tweak has experience with EDs and will often help her through rough spots
- They dress pretty femine but will sometimes wear sweatpants and a T-shirt with no makeup instead
- pretty close friends with shellington, has listened to so many of his marine biology infodumps that they might as well have a marine biology degree.
Kwazii 🐱-
- transgender he/him, MLM
- has horrendous ADHD and can still drive a gup better than shellington
- pirate special interest, he has been a pirate but it's also his interest
- spyglass comfort item, won't leave his room without it on him but still insists it's not a comfort item
- takes the Gup B on rides every few days if it hasn't been used, he doesn't want it to get rusty supposedly
- a menace to tweaks work schedule along with shellington
- plays with yarn, he's like half cat what did you expect
- has a bunch of kids pirate storybooks hidden in his treasure chest
- I don't know if everyone has this, but his treasure chest doubles as a "hope" chest, it's mementos and old memorable things to keep you going, had it since he was a kid and hid a broken glass in it once to not get in trouble, regretted it as an adult.
- said he was tough enough for testosterone shots but had to switch to gel after a month
-tail is permanently bent at the end due to how much it gets messed with
Inkling 🦑 -
- uses a wheelchair while on land or inside but not in the water
- he/him and MLM
- has many degrees, was a professor at a school for awhile
- also has a marine biology special interest but masks it a lot more than shellington
- collected most the books in the library himself, even wrote a few, has some of shellingtons old journals stored in there
- spends most his days living his life as a peaceful old man but will beat the crap out of anyone on sight
- had a chaos streak in high school
- knits and crochets VERY efficiently, made matching sweaters for the vegimals and shellington. Shellington cried.
- basically the vegimals grandpa figure, he reads them stories when shellingtons out
Shellington 🦦 -
- I love him, uses all pronouns besides she but I'll be referring to him as he for convienence
- MLM but uses the achillean flag specifically
- can't drive because he's gay /hj
- has crashed the Gups so often that they have a "days since shellington has crashed a gup" board, his record is 32
- very heavy marine biology special interest, he doesn't masks it and everyone on the octopod listens to him as intently as they can
- infodumps so fast he runs out of breath and foams at the mouth a bit, (I also do this, the spit is not nice)
- will hurt you if you touch the vegimals in a negative way
- vegimals pretty much consider him their birth father! first person they saw out of the egg, quite literally consider him their dad
- he's very good at gardening due to being said father, I mean seriously he can make a mean garden
- has a bunch of science equipment, does leave it laying around the octopod sometimes
- just,, weird tastes, hot sauce on kelp cakes, he has also got fed caramel covered broccoli as a joke and liked it.
- doesn't actually hate touch that much but instinctively flinches away from you when you reach out for him
- likes to test and push his own limits, he has purposely kept himself awake for two weeks for an experiment, he's, a bit odd
- has a diary hidden away in his journal stash
- has a lot of journals! they document a Lot of things
- has a journal on the behavior of people on the gup, he has never shown anyone, he thinks it would be creepy if people knew he watched anyone that close
- great gift giver as a result though
alright that's it! octonauts week day 2, I am so tired, send help or give me the good old old yelled treatment

"Well, personally, I don't think MDZS characters are on the spectrum?"
oh. not even Lan Zhan? (or Song Lan?) I'm autistic and it's genuinely impossible for me to not read him that way. Especially the part where your personal morals clash with the chaos and messiness of the outside world. He's my favorite because I felt his journey and growth as a character deep in my soul. Idk about other autistic people but to me it was always the most painful thing: holding on to my values while trying to be more flexible and not attacking people or cutting them off for minor offenses. Over the course of the story,Lan Zhan manages to mature, understand Wei Ying better, and become more flexible without becoming disillusioned or passive,so he's really an ideal in that sense.
Sorry,I ranted too much again
"No wonder why Jiang Yanli, though a little more aware due to her sex and standing, gives the same vibes? like a sort of lost, good, kind vibe?"
Yes! yes! Those are exactly the vibes. I was just joking to someone a while ago that both Lan Zhan and Wei Ying have been raised by the exact same older sibling figure. Honesly that puts Yanli and Xichen's achievements in perspective, cause they both encouraged or allowed their younger siblings to be idealistic and righteous, instead of stifling those impulses, which is a choice and a great thing.
And yes, unlike Lan Xichen,Jiang Yanli is that passive mostly because of her status and sex. And because of being traumatized by a horrible abusive narc mom.
They should have been allowed to have like a soup and flute club together every sunday or something. The friendship would have done them good. (Maybe let Wen Ning join too)
Anyway, thank you for replying! It was fun talking to you!
Hey! I'm really sorry for not seeing this before. I forgot to open my inbox.
Yes, I personally do not perceive MDZS characters on the spectrum. There are two reasons for this - firstly, Lan Zhan's character is very well written. Personally, I did not feel the need to enhance him. I think you can call me a bit of 'canon purist,' that is, I derive most pleasure from improving my understanding of a literary work to be as close as possible to authorial intent (I am of course, open to divergences, enhancements, and all sorts of stuff. But if we go by my 'default' setting, it is this.)
Secondly, I would count as a neurotypical person. I think you'd agree that in many fandoms, the 'quiet' or 'just a little bit weird' person, as well as the cheery, energetic person are often immediately headcanonned as neurodivergent. Thus, I guess I felt like doing so to Lan Zhan etc might be me leaning heavily into stereotypes! In my personal experience, my close cousins - though diagnosed similarly on the spectrum, had extremely varying thinking processes.
However, it is enlightening to know more about why you characterized him as such - especially about becoming more comfortable in his skin. Lan Zhan is also my favourite character, though for different reasons. I can relate to his desire to perform each task with excellence, preference for quietude, and struggle with his dominant orientation. How he tried his hardest to be a liberal, before becoming radicalized. The struggle of being someone who respects traditional and societal values, but has his own strong personal ideals, morality and desires that cannot co-exist with them :( It's tragic how he wished to protect the one he loved, tried but wasn't good at expressing himself, wasn't powerful enough to guarantee peace, wasn't politically smart enough to change things, wasn't strong enough to fight the whole world for him, and eventually, he was even unwanted by his lover, who was hurt by him. Thus, exiled by love and punished by his clan, he really had nothing to look forward to. Yet, he choose to rise up, day after day and make the differences he could make.
I think his persistence and his healing is the most impressive thing about him for me. How he was inadequate but then, became someone who could protect Wei Ying.
There's no need to apologize! I quite love your takes and rants. (PS - please don't take my stating I am a canon purist as a form of discouraging thought. That is only for my personal satisfaction!)
I totally agree. I wish to add Xiao XIngchen to this club. In a highly tense political environment, these characters were adorably in need of some splash painting and crafts sessions. I'd love to put all of them together in some club in a Modern AU. Jiang Yanli will cook, Lan Xichen will paint and play sad, and funky melodies, Wen Ning will help and Xiao Xingchen will laugh at everything.

ok y'all i got to the episode She of The Good Doctor, the episode lots of you warned me it was transphobic, and I have some thoughts...
I appreciate your warning, it is an episode full of missgendering and discussions of difficult decisions made mostly by cis people, about the life of a trans girl. But I really really liked the ep.
For a bit of context. The patient is a 15 year old trans girl, Quinn (played by a trans actress btw), with testicular cancer. There's a discussion of stopping puberty blockers and then discussion of surgically removing both testicles (one of which is medically necessary). Because Quinn is a minor, the medical decisions are made by her parents, who support her and love her very much. Quinn's grandmother, is not so supportive, a lot of "he's confused" and "what if he wants children in the future". She even acuses the parents of abuse. When they're discussing what to do, there's a medical emergency and Quinn need to go into surgery immediately, so there's not a lot of time for making a decision. The parents consent only to the medically necessary surgery, so they take out the cancer affected testicle, leaving the other one intact. Quinn is sad at first, but she had already made up her mind about getting gender reaffirming surgery as soon as she turns 18, and her parents were on board with it (not that it was necessary, but it's nice).
Now, another big part of that episode, is Shaun's "sience says he's a boy" and all the missgendering. Which I'm not defending, I'll never defend transphobia, but I do understand. All the other neurotypical doctors were accepting of the trans patient, so I see how it looks. And as someone pointed out, there's quite the overlap between autistic people and trans people, so it would have been nice to not have all this. But, I also know that Shaun wasn't in a very supportive household, he left home when he was a child and was homeless for a while. His only firend was his even younger brother (so far there hasn't been mention of any friend in med school either). So I get how a guy like that, regardless of his autism, could be very ignorant about trans issues, you know?
Yes, I would have loved to have better writing in this ep, more support from that front. But in the canon of the show, in the world, from the point of view of the characters, it does make sense, and it is in fact very nice. Shaun asks lots of questions, some quite stupid, some quite personal and Quinn answers them, to quote her "I'd rather people ask questions instead of pointing and staring". He ties, he hears her, and he goes out of his way in the end, to really understand what she meant. I also feel like he might relate a bit, it is actually quite lovely.
I was sort of expecting to feel as horribly angry as I felt when watching that one really acephobic episode of House M.D. (you know, both being David Shore's creations), but it was much more enjoyable. Although to be honest with you, I do hold on so tight to Wilson trying to learn about asexuality in that ep, even tho the conclusion of the case was "syptom" and "faking" for both characters presented as ace. I do try to focus on the tiny glimpse of light lol
ok long ass post just to say, althoug there's a lot of missgendering in "She", I felt that it was a really lovely episode. Thank you so so much to the people who warned me about it, that's always welcomed, and this is in no way a diss on anyone who felt really uncomfortable by the ep, you're feelings are valid <3 but I don't think it was as bad as I thought.

did you just finish succession? Are you wishing for more inheritance thunderdome, bickering siblings, eternal death spiral of turning into your parents, horrible people backstabbing one another, family drama of rich and powerful and utterly miserable people?
this story is primarily a murder mystery and fantasy story. but! it also contains all of those things. and more. Here's a roundup of the main characters, to get an idea what its like. I hope I can convince some people to get into it.
Kinzo: abusive and erratic family patriarch, hates all of his children, also everyone else, obsessed with some girl he met briefly like 5 decades ago or something. she happens to be magic, but still. Miserable old alcoholic, on the verge of death, he was supposed to die within a year like three years ago, but he's still kickin! (for now.) His kids largely hate him back.
Krauss: evil eldest brother failson. he sucks. theyre all failchildren but he is the failest. supposedly has his father's 'gift' for predicting future market patterns or whatever but he always chickens out right before it comes true and works out for him. Awful towards his wife.
Natsuhi: Krauss' wife. This woman is not unhinged. she is holding on to those hinges by the tips of her fingernails but by god is she holding on to them. she is HINGED goddamnit. perpetually has a headache. Her aggressive loyalty towards & defensiveness of the family name & status does not ever result in any respect or power.
Eva: bitchy second child eldest daughter. she loves the inheritance thunderdome. she is made for this. she is living. Eva & Natsuhi have an ongoing vaguely homoerotic bitchiness contest.
Hideyoshi: Eva's husband. wife guy. also kind of a malewife.
Rudolph: maybe the most together of the kids. this is not a high bar to clear. been married twice, immediately after his first wife died he married a woman he worked with at his high-powered corporate job.
Kyrie: logical, calculating milf-type. second wife of Rudolph. shes smart and together and her biggest failure is the fact that shes married to Rudolph. also the faschy vibes. whats up with that armband girl.
Rosa. also a milf. abusive single mother. youngest daughter, disrespected by all her older siblings, has a stupid haircut. likely acted much like her daughter as a child, now screams at and hits her for 'acting weird'. her siblings often try to close her out and avoid discussing things with her as the youngest child.
Jessica: Krauss & Natsuhi's daughter. Generally considered to be the most likely ultimate inheritor of the family wealth & name. (through her father but i think everyone's hoping he is in charge for as short a time period as possible) does not particularly care for her position as heir apparent.
George: Eva & Hideyoshi's son. was considered the likely heir until Jessica was born, which happened late into her parents marriage. was a whole thing. is the most competent & business-minded of the grandchildren, practically he's probably the best pick of their generation.
Battler: what is up with this guy's name. anyways. Rudolph's son with his first wife. hates his dad, gets on fine with his stepmom. mostly irrelevant to the inheritance plot, though as the perspective character we get information about the inheritance drama through him. he carries most of the mystery part of the plot.
Maria: Rosa's daughter, best grandchild. incredibly autistic. more relevant to the fantasy parts of the story than the inheritance thunderdome, but i love her and you should too.
Ange: Rudolf and Kyrie's daughter, the youngest child in the family. she is absent from the family conference due to being sick, and is thus not initially relevant at all
NON-FAMILY: due to the magic plotline, any of these people could hypothetically inherit all the money instead
Nanjo: family doctor. would like Kinzo to stop being an alcoholic, but he won't. he's really just vibing, mostly tries to keep himself out of the way when family arguments arise
Genji: devoted lifetime servant of Kinzo. has a weird gay thing going on with him. the children dislike and distrust him bc they consider him a pawn of Kinzo, which is completely fair. would also like Kinzo to stop being an alcoholic, but also will absolutely never do anything to try and stop him.
Shannon & Kanon: young servants currently on the island. have served long enough to be very trusted by Kinzo. these arent their real names; they have servant names bc insane rich family rules. Shannon is dating George and Kanon has a romance arc with Jessica.
Gohda: personal chef of the family. aligned with Krauss instead of Kinzo.
Kumasawa: fun old lady, bad at her job, has apparently quit multiple times and then just like showed back up at work i guess?
And finally, Beatrice: woman who Kinzo is in love with. he hasnt seen her since before any of his kids were born but devotes all his time to magic rituals to be able to see her again. she is much more relevant to the fantasy & mystery parts of the story, as she is both fantastical and mysterious. largely distrusted by the rest of the family, especially because she, and Kinzo's obsession with her, throws the whole inheritance thing into chaos. whether she actually exists is under debate.
there are others but they show up later in the story and are not potential heirs.

Headcanons for the Derry Girls Halloween Episode:
. The gang end up going to the Fatboy Slim concert while the adults are at a costume party hosted by Janette Joyce, who's attempting to repair her friendship with Mary and the girls (baby Anna is in the care of a babysitter).
. Everyone is positively buzzing for the concert - well, mostly. This is the first time James and Erin after the Donegal kiss, and like most teens would be, they're feeling confused as hell and kind of down in the dumps that they most likely can't be together. Erin being Erin is determined to just shove her feelings down inside and enjoy the concert.
. We all know the gang are dressed as angels for the concert but I think the adults' costumes would be really fun. Gerry gets roped into being part of a group ABBA costume with Mary, Sarah and Ciaran and Granda Joe tries to incorporate Seamus into his but is stopped by Mary's insistence that he can't bring a cat with murderous tendencies to a Halloween party.
. Mary finally gets to hoke inside the Joyce's house and cannot believe her eyes at the eight bedrooms with en-suites. The sheer size of the kitchen makes her catch her breath.
. It's hinted that Granda Joe has a heart attack in this episode and while it's obviously a very serious thing, I think the setup could be really funny. For example, Ciaran and Sarah have been going steady for about a year now, so what if he decides to take the leap at this party and propose? And at the exact moment he does and he and Sarah and everyone else is celebrating, Granda Joe clutches his chest and collapses. Luckily Janette's husband Richard is able to give him something from his medical bag while the ambulance is called and Gerry is sent out to find the girls.
. Back at the concert things are not going great for Erin. She's trying to enjoy herself but just can't get that kiss out of her head. The rest of the girls are having the time of their lives (and I'll think we'll see Claire meet a love interest!) and suddenly she sees James across the room chatting with a girl. They go off to dance and something just snaps in Erin and she storms out on the verge of tears. As we've seen from the photos James follows her and they have an argument - Erin says she knows she said they couldn't be together but not because she doesn't feel the same way, because of what Michelle said and the repercussions it could have and maybe if they weren't in Derry it would be different and James clearly feels the same but because of their situation they're sort of in an impossible situation.
And Erin is about to say something else when they get interrupted by Gerry in full ABBA attire racing down the hallway towards them, and he fills them in on what's happened to Joe and they have to gather the rest of the gang and get to the hospital.
. When they arrive everyone's a mess. Poor Ciaran is sitting in the waiting room with Sarah patting his shoulder while he's having hysterics about accidentally killing his future father-in-law and Mary's pacing up and down the room with a death grip on her rosary. Orla (who I'm 100% certain is autistic) is quickly overwhelmed by the confusing scene and has to be comforted by the girls. They spend two full hours waiting in agonising silence, all the while Erin's thoughts being bombarded with horrible possibilities and outcomes and she can't face losing her grandad so she just gets up and walks away as fast as she can. She doesn't even know where's she going until she hears James calling out behind her, having followed her to make sure she's okay and she wants to tell him to go away, that she can't deal with their shit on top of all of this but instead she just... crumbles. She cries harder than she ever has before and James just immediately pulls her into a hug and comforts her while she lets its all out. And when she's finally done she just looks up at him and says she can't wait. She doesn't want to after what's just happening, life's too fucking short, and grabs his face and they kiss in the empty hallway.
. Meanwhile, the doctor finally comes out and informs everyone that it turns out Ciaran did not in fact accidentally kill Joe, but that Joe has a genetic disease that causes clogged arteries combined with the fact that he ate too many cheese cubes at the party. He also tells them Joe will be waking up in a few minutes and they're welcome to sit in his room until then. Ciaran nearly sobs with relief before realising with a degree of horror that now Joe's not dead, he may very well kill him for proposing to Sarah😅
. Mary goes off to find Gerry, who's getting tea for everyone and missed the news that Joe's stable. After navigating the maze of corridors and rooms she goes through a door and to her surprise finds her husband, standing still as a statue, peering round the corner and into a hallway. She approaches him to tell him the news but is quickly shushed by a shocked Gerry, who responds to her bewildered look by just pointing down the hall to the figures of their daughter and the wee English fella wrapped in each other's arms and kissing passionately.
. For a good minute neither of them know what to say, until Gerry remarks that maybe they should give them a few minutes before breaking the news about Joe. They attempt to make a sneaky exit and tiptoe away but Gerry accidentally stubs his foot on a bin and manages to knock the entire thing over with a very loud clang in perfect Derry Girls comedic timing, which alerts Erin and James to their presence. Erin is just about up to here with people walking in on her and James shifting and just shouts,
"For God's sake, is there no such thing as privacy?!"
To which Mary retorts that they're in a public hospital. Meanwhile Gerry's brain has gone completely blank, still shocked by the image of his daughter snogging the face off James fecking Maguire, so he just does the first thing that comes to mind, grabs James's hand and starts shaking it vigorously. And James and Erin can only stare at him in absolute confusion until Mary yanks his hand away and asks what the hell he's doing, to which he responds he just panicked😅 She rolls her eyes at her eejit husband and says they'll discuss whatever the feck's happening between James and Erin later, and marches the trio back to Granda Joe's room.
. Granda Joe is now awake but absolutely flying on the morphine. He's convinced he's in heaven due to the fact that five angels appear to have congregated around his bed, and keeps asking if God would allow him to bring Seamus the cat with him to eternity. That is, until Gerry enters the room and he remarks that this must be some strange version of hell. Michelle nearly chokes trying to keep her laughter in. Ciaran keeps hovering nervously by the edge of the room until Joe nods towards him and says to Sarah that her fella's a disaster at proposing but if he makes her happy he supposes he can learn to tolerate him.
. That's all I've got! Feel free to add to this and comment your feedback:)
