What your favourite Bad Batcher says about you!

Not to be taken seriously, just a few traits I’ve picked up in people, based on who their favourite Bad Batcher is. Gender-neutral!

Hunter - You are a fan of one of these things, if not both: rough and rugged men who come across as dominant, but are actually submissive, OR sad little wet dogs. You know those 'sponsor an animal today!' adverts, and they show you all the animals with their sad lil' eyes gawking at the camera? Yeah, that's Hunter. You probably have a comfort item of some kind - a teddy, blankey, pillow, etc - and heaven forbid you ever wash that thing. They're fragile, okay?! Holding hands is one of your favourite forms of affection, along with head massages, and words of affirmation. You big, sappy baby.

Tech - Nerrrrd. No seriously, you've got to be a geek of some sort. That, or you're the total opposite to him. A goth, perhaps? Maybe you like Tech because he reminds you of your dorky high school days when you were bullied for your basic interests. On a brighter note, Tech fans are always sweet and kind, straightforward, possibly a little... autistic. You probably own a fidget item of some kind, and you love 'floor time.' Oh, and one of your favourite things on a man are their thighs - perfect cushions!

Wrecker - You're 100% an angel, alright?! I've never met a Wrecker fan who isn't the sweetest soul to ever grace this earth. You're probably not into the gym - if anything, you prefer food, and you're more than happy with your size and figure. You always have that one jacket that you wear, despite having a wardrobe full of others. Bright colours are your favourite because they're positive, and who doesn't want to be surrounded by bright and happy colours? You probably also own that Lula plush too, or you've made your own. Crafty lil' nerd.

Echo - Either you drink wine, or gin. Or you don't drink at all. There's no middle ground here. You definitely sleep in a bed full of blankets and pillows, only to push them off during the night because you're too damn hot! Cuddles are a very comforting thing to you, and one of your favourite forms of love language. You're either incredible at maths, or shit. Overall, you're soft and tender, but damn, you can bark when you really want to, and Maker forbid that anybody ever feels your bite!!

Crosshair - Okay, but... you don't have daddy issues, that's the thing. Everybody assumes that because you're a little edgy, when in reality, your trauma stimulates from elsewhere. Childhood bullying, perhaps? You know how everybody is either a black cat, or a golden retriever? Yeah, you're a black cat, but that doesn't mean you prefer solitude. You don't let just anyone into your circle - trust is a big thing, and it takes a long time to build up with you. However, when someone gets through, they find out that you're just a big sappy baby. A big sappy baby who prefers to be the little spoon.

Bilingual Characters

Note: I am not bilingual, so please add or correct me if you can. This is what I have observed/learned from friends who are.

➸ forgetting terms in [language A] and trying to explain with context clues or hand gestures ; it’s common to forget terms even in their primary language, not just a secondary one

➸ usually it’s just repeating “the thing” while trying to remember the term or using a synonym even if it doesn’t make as much sense

➸ inner dialogue switching between languages depending on connotation of thought and which language they have been conversing in lately

➸ counting in [language A] and then translating the final number into [language B] because it’s easier that way

➸ translating slang terms from [language A] that do not actually translate with the same meaning or make sense in [language B]

➸ speaking with grammar rules from [language A] that are incorrect in [language B]

➸ asking non-bilingual person if there’s a translation for a word before realizing they would have no idea

➸ never say something like “oops, it’s hard to switch back sometimes” — that’s lazy writing and doesn’t happen in real life

➸ language is a conscious action so when speaking [language A] people aren’t just going to throw in words from [language B] unless they are struggling to find a translation and then that struggle will be obvious

➸ if a character throws in a word from [language A] while conversing in [language B] it’s on purpose, usually because they’re messing with the other person or the word in [language B] doesn’t have the same connotation

➸ for example, curse words, nicknames, or other exclamations from [language A] may commonly be thrown in while conversing in [language B] but it is purposeful

➸ the only exception could be children who grew up bilingual; they may genuinely combine languages without thinking about it

➸ switching between languages may take a second for their brain to compute, even if they’re switching back to their primary language ; especially if they’ve been using one language consistently for a while

➸ when in an adrenaline-rush situation (like being panicked or in pain) a person will usually fall into their first language

➸ don’t try to transcribe accents — if your character has one, describe it and move on ; messing with dialogue too much will confuse readers

➸ there are different kinds of bilingual: fully (speak, read, and write), conversational (speaks fluently but does not read/write as well; this is common with immigrants), and comprehensible (can understand what someone says to them, but struggles to speak back; common with those who took school classes)

➸ people who grew up speaking primarily [language A] will commonly get anxious conversing in [language B] even if they are fluently bilingual ; this is something people can overcome with time

➸ when researching a language you do not speak but your character does, make sure to understand the culture too because it will influence how they speak

➸ culture affects expressions, idioms, forms, even basic vocabulary — you’ll need to understand this because every language breaks formal rules while in casual conversation & using this will make your character more realistic

➸ find a bilingual beta reader!

sag risings are the most straightforward rising sign to recognize for me at least. I had this thought for awhile now, but I genuinely think that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 would be SO much better if it had blood and swear words. Like more mature (but no sexual stuff Nono horny jail NOW!)

And I really do think it will work because all of the seasons are gonna be more dramatic and memorable as well as funny and defining/ separating characters more. (we all know who is going to have have sailors mouth. )

Like imagine the brothers literally KILLING for pizza

And Ralph cursing and bullying every existing creature and object like a savage.

however this aggression will have a great contrast with him being nice and caring in some moments with people he truly loves.

I can think of more examples with other brothers but Ralph will have more definite change in his characteristics.

Giving Your Character a Unique Voice

↠ age, background, birthplace, culture, education, social class

⤠ attitude / traits

↠ how does their attitude affect their voice? sarcastic? sincere? suspicious? confident? ambitious? impatient? silly? determined? kind? honest?

⤠ author voice vs character voice

↠ your descriptive writing shouldn’t sound like your character’s dialogue; you are your own person as the author and your character is their own person — you would speak differently (an exception is if you’re writing in first person and it’s your primary character speaking)

⤠ bad habits

↠ interrupting? finishing other people’s sentences? improper grammar?

⤠ catchphrases

↠ what do they say often? what’s their usual greeting?

⤠ concise or wordy

↠ do they rant? do they explain in detail? do they just get to the point?

⤠ don’t rely on accents

↠ your character’s voice should be more complex than simply accents or dialect

⤠ how often they talk

↠ do they say everything on their mind? do they keep to themselves? only say important things? does this change depending on who they’re with?

↠ do they curse? how often? when do they curse? when they’re angry? being sarcastic? scared? nervous? what curse words do they use?

⤠ realism

↠ your character should speak like a real person; don’t worry as much about grammatical matters; for example, real people don’t always speak in full sentences or use ideal words

↠ what slang do they use? how often? does this change depending on who they’re with?

⤠ speech quirks

↠ do they stutter? do they hesitate? do they talk fast? or slow? (‘um’, ‘uh’, ‘well’, ‘like’, etc.)

⤠ vocabulary range

↠ how extensive is their vocabulary? do they utilize it in conversation? vocabulary should reflect education

⤠ practice responses (how would your characters respond to these?)
