yo i know you didn't technically reblog my ask post butttt i figured since most people like getting asks i'd send one over! any headcanons on the rescue bots status as a team made entirely of triple changers? or in heatwave's case, a quadruple changer? also feel free to just talk about whatever, you can totally just shoot random headcanons off if u feel like it!! 💕
Hiii! You literally dragged me out of my den- Buckle up buckaroos, this is long-
HUZZAH, Optimus is letting all the bots stationed in the safe and developing areas on Earth (including Prof Baranova’s lab and Faxian) choose another vehicle mode, including Heatwave ‼️‼️‼️ this is gonna be a REALLY interesting and chaotic experience…
Heatwave: Heatwave is (probably not) satisfied with whatever he already has, but he would scan a tank whenever he gets the chance, Kade obviously encourages him no one ever took him to museums because of this, but knowing Optimus is letting the bots choose whatever they want, no one can refuse and reason with Heatwave and his deep interest with such vehicles.
Salvage + Boulder: Since Griffin Rock is constantly and rapidly advancing in technology, Boulder and Salvage want to help! Salvage is considering becoming a bulldozer like Boulder. Boulder wants to be a crane to help lift heavy things to higher altitudes. Graham is really happy and supportive about this.
Chase: Although it seems unlikely, Chase had always wanted to experience the thrill of chasing crime from the skies: A police helicopter! Blades had tried many times to talk Chase through it, as he is a helicopter himself, but gave up as Chase kept pulling several papers he typed and printed out himself explaining why he wants to add a helicopter to his list of his desired vehicle modes. (yes, he has a whole list of vehicle modes he wants) Chief Burns greatly questions Chase’s sanity along with everyone else’s.
Blades: The burning feeling of jealousy that rises whenever he sees Dani getting along with the sports cars on the team, including Bumblebee, and his fear of heights that never seems to go away, Blades desperately wants to have a sports car as his third alt mode and try to “fit in.” Yeah, I’m referencing to the episode ‘odd bot out’ Blades had a private talk with Dani and Chief Burns about this and they finally understand his point of view. They fully support his decision.
Blurr: Everyone is horrified of what Blurr will choose, especially Heatwave, though he is more annoyed than afraid. After the incident of Blurr almost blowing his cover by grandly interrupting a race, he did not let that hold him back despite still feeling extremely guilty about it.
..
Blurr chose to have the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut as his third alt mode and professor Baranova just about fainted and heatwave exploded with complete frustration, Quickshadow questions her place in their little race matches they have every now and then now that Blurr has made his decision. Every time she and Blurr walk by each other or interact, he flashes her a snarky smirk, making Quickshadow want to beat the living frag out of him, the only thing stopping every bot from doing so physically is the law (and Chief Burns) Blurr is quite proud of himself for this, but Quickshadow warns him to stay close to her during earliween and anytime that any outsiders and tourists enter the island: Remembering Quickshadows experience during her first year on Griffin rock, Blurr obliges.
Servo: Nobody expected Servo out of everyone on the team to speak, or I should say, bark up about what he wants. To make this sweet and simple and just as horrifying as Blurr’s case, Servo wants to become a Tibetan Mastiff. High tide immediately lightens up at the thought of having a bigger, more intimidating dog on his ship deck, CeCe starts crying when she sees a picture of the said dog breed, Chief Burns instantly becomes even more concerned for the well-being of his family.
Hightide:
“I already got a giant ship that transforms into a Megabot, I’m personally already a submarine, do ah really need anything else??? OH, I KNOW HOW ‘BOUT AH BIGGER SHIP!?!?!?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHA-“ *maniacal laughter while Heatwave sobs and yells in the background and Optimus simply blank stares at his old comrade, deciding whether or not to question or support Hightide’s decision.*
Quickshadow (saving my fav pookie for last): for some reason, Quickshadow instantly becomes quiet when the opportunity of scanning a new alt mode is brought up to her. Optimus and Hightide, knowing her better than anyone else since she served alongside them on the front lines during the war on Cybertron, approaches Quickshadow in a way that won’t startle her. Once Quickshadows emotional state is revealed to the rest of the team, they immediately come to the conclusion that the reason for her sudden emotional instability was because of what happened during her first Earliween on Griffin Rock. Quickshadow is approached again about this;
“I have thought about it, I do not think I would like a new alt mode, the vehicle mode I already have is an all-terrain anyway…”
It is true, Quickshadow has powerful rocket engines that can aid her in both bot and vehicle mode, she can turn into a submersible and can drive up to incredible, staggering speeds on the road. Earliween wasalready approaching seeing it is almost November, so everyone decides to keep Quickshadow close to them and support her decision of not choosing another vehicle mode. Optimus promised to stay for Earliween too, as last by as the reconstruction of Cybertron does not bring up any sudden issues in his absence.
And once again, the rescue bots are in chaos.
I really enjoyed writing this. Hope you enjoyed reading! ❤️❤️❤️

Interpersonal Aftermath: Ben and Abigail
Ben and Abigail’s relationship also gets plenty of development during the film’s runtime. I have plenty of feelings about how that’s set up. We also know that three months after the treasure hunt, they’re dating. However, a few things.
I don’t think they live together. Is this obvious? When I was younger I just sort of assumed that they did, because they’re shown at the house. Now though, I don’t buy it. For starters, there’s only one car in the driveway (other than Riley’s Ferrari, obviously.) It’s a sporty silver convertible parked up by the house. I would wager that’s supposed to be Abigail’s car. Ben doesn’t strike me as a silver convertible person. Also, if that’s Ben’s, where is her car? Instead, I think that Ben is parked in what must be a garage of some kind behind that tree.
NTS: Do not go on a tangent about that houses! Save that for another article!
But more than the logistics of the cars, it just does not feel in-character to me for Abigail to move in with someone she just met three months ago via grand larceny and almost-but-technically-not kidnapping. Since this scene is our “cut to: happy ending” moment it kind of feels like they’ve been dating since the treasure hunt. After all they kissed in the tunnel and Abigail blushed when Ben’s first demand was that she get off clean from the whole thing.
This is how the story is supposed to go: boy meets girl, boy ropes girl into a life-threatening treasure hunt, girl gets pretty into it actually, boy kisses girl in tomb tunnel, and they both live happily ever after.
Except I don’t think that’s what happened. This is 100% pure speculation, but I believe it would have taken Ben and Abigail most of that three month window to actually decide to start dating. Neither of them strike me as too quick to jump into romantic endeavors, and Abigail especially. Thought it might be the “easy” story to tell there, I just don’t see Abigail agreeing to date Ben in the heat of the moment (the moment being in the days following the treasure hunt), no matter how much she might be tempted to. She has to know that this weekend of her life was an aberration, and so too were all of her emotions while on the Tower of Templar thrill ride.
As I have argued extensively, I think the film does a lot of work to establish that Ben and Abigail have a lot in common, and are well suited to and interested in one another even before the treasure hunt really gets going. That’s the evidence that Abigail is going to need to see more of before she takes that plunge. Otherwise, she’s giving into the desire to make a one-time-only set of circumstances become permanent. And that will only lead to Book of Secrets ruin.
Abigail Chase is a reserved person. In her day-to-day life she dresses conservatively, and doesn’t entertain nonsense from anyone. One imagines she was a teacher’s pet, and an eternal “pleasure to have in class.” Yes, she loosens up as the film progresses, but every impulsive or dangerous decision she makes is directly in service of protecting the Declaration. The Abigail who called up Ian and orchestrated an escape from FBI custody is the What-Happens-On-The-Treasure-Hunt-Stays-On-The-Treasure-Hunt Abigail. Once she comes down from that high, I don’t think she’ll be seeking out any more reckless decisions. And dating Ben, at this point, is definitely reckless.
I imagine there are a few stilted conversations, maybe over some bad FBI coffee. They’re both pushing forward and holding back in equal measure. It’s only after she spends more time with Ben that Abigail starts to realize that her interest in him, and his interest in her, is rooted in more than adrenaline. All of that legal and archeological business with the treasure allows/forces them to spend more time together. By the time we reach museum exhibit openings a few months later, then she’s in a place to think about dating Ben.
And what does Ben think of all this? I have several as-yet-undrafted articles worth of thoughts on Ben Gates’ relationship to romance, so I’ll save some of this for later. Suffice it to say that while I think there is an argument to be made that Ben is waiting impatiently to sweep Abigail off her feet/claim his “prize” for protagonizing, that’s not how I see things playing out. Because while I do think Ben realizes before Abigail that there’s something real between them that’s worth pursuing, I also believe he’d be hesitant to dive in too fast, albeit for different reasons.
Ben has no problem making reckless, impulsive decisions.
Tumblr media
No problem at all, as long as it’s a cause he believes in.
What he doesn’t have is a stable history with romance, either first hand or in his family. Depending on whether you live mentally in 2004 or 2007, his mother either died while he was young, leaving his father an exhausted shell of a man, or she was a student in Patrick’s class who got knocked up and tried to make it work, but Patrick couldn’t put her and Ben over his own pursuits (treasure). Neither is great for Ben in this regard.
In National Treasure, there’s no direct mention of Ben’s past girlfriends or how dating factors into his life. All we know about Ben’s romantic inclinations we learn from Patrick, or from Ben repeating his father’s beliefs to Abigail. From these two instances…
Exhibit A:
PATRICK Is she pregnant?
Exhibit B:
BEN Well, my father thinks I've been a little too cavalier in my personal life.
…we can tell that at least Patrick believes Ben is someone who is a bit, um, loose when it comes to his love life. But is this true? I have a suspicion that these lines actually tell us more about Patrick and his relationship with relationships than it does about Ben.
But however you interpret the nuance of Patrick’s words, they make it clear that Ben is someone can and does start romantic relationships but don’t seem to stick with them for long. So if Ben is really serious about pursuing a relationship with Abigail and making it stick, he might try to do the opposite of what he usually does—take things slow instead of rushing in.
Perhaps some symmetry with another gala or exhibit opening party? Riley was so nonchalant about the whole thing it seems like they’ve been to several already.

From: https://pinkkacey.itch.io/modern-aeon/devlog/657382/post-mortum-i-sorta-regret-writing-a-trans-lesbian-elongated-muskrat
Tumblr media
When I first started working on this story (I think back in 2021) I approached it with a desire solely to chase the themes present in the first part. The small dom with a lot of attitude, big dog service top who likes to get pulled around (a real masochist emotionally and physically). The bodyguard and her dark evil ceo lover. I followed a desire to write something inspired by the roaring 20s and the evil but thrilling wonder if an industrialists life. Paying people to have ideas for you, is a very old industrial capitalist thing. I wanted to show the glamor and the luxury of shinny leather, designer watches, tailored suits, and flowing dresses all on rough, beautiful lesbians. I think to an extent that first part really does convey that pretty well.
I have been thinking a lot about how Flur, even though she isn't as evil or manipulative as she wants people to think she is, is a capitalist in a way that I might never write again. My stomach has been so churned by Twitter falling apart. I wanted to write Flur sorta as a response too, ya know, what would a "good" person like this look like to me. What sorts of things would make up her mindset, how would she be radicalized away from great man theory and towards equity and labor rights. But you know, for all the good she has done in the story, she's still stolen people's wages and been a land lord and stuff. I know she's fictional, but I also I don't really believe there really can be such a thing as a "good industrialist" or "good capitalist" anymore. I guess that was my radicalization journey.
I wouldn't blame people for not connecting or even understanding the choice of character I wrote here. Ultimately though, her character is one of flipping people off and grabbing a failing world by the throat to right it for the better. Murdering your r*pist half brother in front of your family so you can steal the factory out from under him and keep the family from immolating in male chauvinist related debt does feel pretty wild. But whatever, I had fun. We can be wild ass from time to time. It's fine.
The novel opens with a peak at Flur's desire for equity for dragonkind, something that's not hidden but does grow in the background across the story to the point where it's implied she's selling weapons to a liberation movement in the southern part of the country. Flur actively lobbies against removing subways in the capital where she lives and does lots of her business. It would be more profitable to force everyone to buy a car with the engines she designed, but she still makes hand over fist selling them to train, subway, plane, and boat companies. By the end of the book she asks her workers to run her company for themselves, effectively becoming nothing more than a figure head a loud mouth piece. The story conveys a lot of that in the margins however, mostly because this isn't a story about Flur's company or her political actions.
The second part is where the story turns away from what was presented in the first part. The story isn't really about these two characters as bodyguard and CEO either, it's about their relationship and dealing with history. Things coming back to get you, litterally or emotionally. I think my favorite part of the whole novel is that masquerade, the way in which Tempest comes into her own and how she proves her love. I really like these two characters, I think about them a lot still.
The last couple parts I really struggled with, particularly the train part. I really wanted to write it well, and I think for the most part it's a strong bit of story with some weak areas. I really like the intro of family in there. The ending is a favorite, particularly the last chunk of these two living together and having a family feels very special to me. If you've read it, or it sounds interesting, I hope you feel the same.
I feel like if I were to ever come back to this story I would refine it to solely be based around that masquerade. I'd revise how the antagonist and the demon stuff works. It gets a big shonin anime, but that's fine. I'd also make it more clear how Flur's an anticapitalist disguised as a capitalist. I'd make the focus solely on the power of Tempest and Flur's love, though it is in this novel as well.

i love your metas! I just discovered them today and have spent all afternoon reading them. I have two part ask, if that's okay. Firstly, do you think a sensible version of bella could survive if she recognised early on that keeping on Edward's good side was her only survival option? and secondly, on the flip side, just how unhinged do you think bella could be before edward rejected her?
Ooh, both interesting questions, anon. Let's do this.
Sane Bella and the Yandere Simulator
Last time, on The Carnivorous Muffin's ridiculous blog, we covered what would happen to a sensible Bella who realizes the Cullens are not fluffy bunnies she should take home.
The long and short, Edward eats her.
Edward's romantic interest in Bella, the thing that has him fighting his own baser nature to keep her alive, is dependent on a few things.
One of those is Bella's interest in turn.
In time, if Bella truly was not interested in him, he would eat her. Alice tells us there's only two paths for Bella: death or vampire. Leaving her and walking away is never a true option for Edward.
So, Sane Bella loses Yandere Simulator because she doesn't realize the key aspect of Yandere Simulator: You Never Say No to Yandere.
However, you point out something interesting here, that this is a sensible Bella.
Sensible people do not immediately think they're playing Yandere Simulator. You don't run across people like Edward often, there aren't many of him, and while there are red flags early in Twilight Edward did a pretty good job of making them not particularly visible.
By the time we hit Eclipse he's pretty much thrown pretending to be nice and sane out the window. Luckily for Bella, that doesn't appear to bother her as much as it should.
Bella thinking "if I don't play along with this inhuman whack job he'll eat me", is paranoid lunacy. It is not the first conclusion a reasonable person would jump to.
That it happens to be the right conclusion is irrelevant.
But alright, I'll play ball.
Paranoid Bella and the Yandere Simulator
Bella is utterly paranoid and wearing her tin foil hat when she enters Forks. She remembers Biology very well and when Edward comes back and pretends to be nice she gives him a strained smile and thinks, "This motherfucker will eat me the moment my back is turned."
Bella considers travelling back to Florida, but that would be leading Edward to her mother, more it would be very easy to find Bella if he truly wished to.
Florida isn't an option.
Bella tries to keep her distance from Edward, hard when he sits next to her in Biology, but he seems willing to ignore her. Bella calms down a little, maybe this will work out.
Bella is nearly crushed by a van, desperately pretends she definitely did not see Edward fold that van like a pretzel. Nope, no siree Bob, Bella is concussed! She then stays awake all night in terror and OH GOD HE'S CLIMBING THROUGH HER WINDOW! HE'S GOING TO EAT HER IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT! HE KNOWS THAT SHE KNOWS!
Bella pretends to sleep, horrified, and Edward stays there all night. Staring.
(Edward, meanwhile, is realizing he's in love.)
Bella enters school a nervous wreck, waiting for that fateful Biology class and... Edward is studiously ignoring her. He doesn't even say hello.
Bella would be relieved, except he keeps sneaking into her bedroom at night, staring. Bella gets no sleep for weeks.
Then the blood testing happens and suddenly Edward is talking to her. He tells her they shouldn't be friends and he doesn't want to be friends, GREAT, EDWARD, THAT'S GREAT. But then it's very clear that he's after something, and Bella's spidey senses are tingling.
Edward doesn't want to be friends.
Oh, oh shit.
Suddenly, Edward sneaking into her room at night takes on a whole, new, sinister twist. First he'll rape her, then he'll eat her (or who knows, maybe vice versa, Bella certainly doesn't want to find out).
Bella is driven home by Edward (he insists) and enters the house to wheeze into a paper bag.
She thinks over her options.
Edward can crush cars, Bella trips over asphalt. Even if she wasn't Bella, there's no way she could outfight him even if she wanted to.
Edward was very concerned when he suspected that she knew, he likely still suspects and Bella's not a very good liar. Bella doesn't want to find out what happens to her if Edward realizes she really does know.
Edward appears to have a romantic interest in her. Does Bella really have the option of saying no?
Bella, still wheezing in her bag, comes to what seems like an inevitable decision. She must humor Edward at all costs. For the sake of her family, of her own life, she must play into his romantic overtures. Bella can't act but now, her life depends on it.
Well, Bella still can't act, but luckily for her Edward doesn't care.
Edward just thinks Bella's very jumpy, a little nervous and shy, and just plain weird (given he thinks Bella's just plain weird in canon this is not too far from normal events).
So Bella gets to live in terror for things like the meadow, where Edward talks about how easy it would be to eat her, how he contemplated murdering Biology in cold blood to eat her in the most efficient manner, how he loathed her for daring to smell delicious, how Alice warned him there was a good chance of him eating Bella in the meadow today, all while pressing his cheek against her hammering heartbeat.
"AH HA HA HA HA, EDWARD, YOU'RE SO CHARMING."
Edward invites Bella to the house. These creepy, man eating, people all meet her with smiles. Edward has composed her a lullaby. One of them, Alice, tells Bella they're going to be best friends.
"AH HA HA HA HA, EDWARD YOUR FAMILY IS SO NICE."
In other words, somehow, all of Twilight still happens because Bella is terrified of saying no.
At least, until Volterra. Given Bella's being hunted by Victoria, even had Bella not gone cliff diving eventually Alice would see her eaten and then black out as the wolves chased off Victoria instead.
Bella spends New Moon having a great time. Mostly. The Cullens are finally gone, she's free, she spends weeks on edge thinking they might come back.
Just when she starts to relax, fucking Laurent shows up and learns Victoria's trying to kill her. Because of Edward, because of course, it's always about Edward. WHY ARE VAMPIRES ALWAYS TRYING TO KILL HER?!
Regardless, Alice shows up and goes, "Bella, my god, you're alive!" And Bella dies inside. Alice Cullen is back. Oh no.
Bella pretends she's thrilled to see her. Alice, her best friend, her favorite demon. Hurray. Alice fills Bella in on the New Moon scoop, Bella pretends to be very invested. Then Alice gets the vision.
Edward has decided to commit suicide via the Volturi.
Bella has no problem with this, unfortunately, she realizes that Alice clearly has a problem with this. Alice fully expects Bella to run off to Italy to save Fucking Edward.
Once again, Bella isn't sure she's allowed to say no.
Bella runs to Italy, finds herself saving Edward's life, and then she's brought before the Volturi where she might very well be executed because Edward Cullen happened to involve her in this mess.
BELLA NEVER WANTED TO BE HERE.
Bella snaps. She's crying, she just can't take it anymore, and she finally loses her shit at Edward. SHE NEVER LOVED HIM! HE IS SCARY AND WON'T LEAVE HER ALONE! IF THEY'RE GOING TO KILL HER JUST DO IT NOW BECAUSE SHE CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE.
Aro watches Bella's mental breakdown in utter amazement. Naturally, while Marcus suspected something was funky with those two, Aro did not see this coming from Edward's perspective.
Aro offers Bella her out, it is unfortunately death or vampire, but vampire is very much an option and Aro will offer Bella sanctuary in the Volturi.
Bella takes that offer and runs with it.
Edward is devastated and blindsided.
Somehow, neither he nor Alice saw this one coming.
But to answer your question: Paranoid Bella survives Yandere Simulator By Defecting to the Volturi
How Unhinged Does Bella Have to Be For Edward to Dump Her?
He won't.
Remember, Edward in canon thinks there's something legitimately wrong with Bella. She doesn't think like normal people, she always makes the least rational choice, and he can't hear her thoughts.
Edward doesn't think Bella's gifted just that she's... different. (Bella, hilariously, immediately picks up that Edward's calling her a freak. Edward backtracks hard on that one.)
Bella's decisions also become increasingly ridiculous as the series goes on.
She stabs herself in the middle of a battle, she insists on having sex with him while human, she consorts with shapeshifters (to Edward this is lunacy), she picked up motorcycle riding, she threw herself off a cliff, she ran from his sweet protection to the reservation, she believes he doesn't love her, and she doesn't want to get married.
I imagine Edward thinks there isn't anywhere left for Bella to go. She's left the planet, unhinged is her middle name.
But none of that matters.
I already linked the Edward/Bella post I always link near the top so I'll just recap. For Edward, it's all about the blood, the silence, and the projection.
An unhinged Bella is still a delicious and silent Bella. He can still pretend she's Carlisle.
Even if Bella became addicted to cocaine, and ruined that sweet scent, it wouldn't tarnish her memory. He'd nurse her back to health, then eat her so she never relapses.
That's the trouble with Edward/Bella, it's not about Bella, not at all. You could replace her with sweet smelling cardboard and Edward would not notice a difference.

Invisible Strings (Addison Montgomery x Reader)
Tumblr media
If anyone told you were to be married to Addison Montgomery, you would have not believed them.
At first glance, she seemed like an insane woman – she cheated on her own husband and then came back because she was sorry. Ironically enough, the more you avoided Addison, the more fate brought you closer.
You were one of the best interns in the hospital, along with Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey, but unlike them you did not have a favorite interest: you were simply enticed by the miracles of the human life. Noticing your never-ending curiosity, Addison constantly chose you to stay under her service. After some time, she started frequenting your favorite spot at Discovery Park, your calming space. It was one of the few moments you were nothing but a common girl admiring nature.
You will never forget the day you saw her sitting on a bench, with a teal-colored shirt, a yogurt, and a wondering look in her face. You did not exchange words with each other that day, but if you bothered to look up from your reading, you would have realized the stolen glances from Addison to you. From that day on, Addison realized her infatuation for you, but it was only after the a patient's surgery she willingly recognized her feelings.
"So," Addison started, staring at you. You had just scrubbed in this 4-hours risky surgery, in which the mother and baby made it.
"So." You went in her direction with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood. Although no one died, you could feel the tension in the air. "Do you always come here?" You joked, making her chuckle.
"Does that line ever works for you?" Addison genuinely asked. She knew you were into women; the hospital staff never let anyone forget.
"Worked with one nurse," you shrugged and winked at her. "Hey, I am going to share the news with the patient's husband–" you stopped yourself for a second, having another thought. "thanks for choosing me to help you with this surgery. I know how important those cases are to you." You finished, this time putting your hand over her shoulder. The touch was simple and fast, but Addison couldn't help but feel shivers sent across her spine.
When you left, she sighed loudly. She was tired of having to pretend everything was okay, from the exhausting surgery cases to her relationship with Derek, every conversation with you highlighted her day. She felt thrilled every time she heard your voice, and she knew what this meant. She had a girl crush, and she would do anything in her power to get closer to you.
For you, the situation was simpler. You were aware of your sexuality, and you were surrounded by beautiful women in Seattle Grace, finding them attractive was just part of the job. It was not until a work trip with Addison that you developed a crush.
You were in the intern's room with your friends, hiding from the attendings. You all were, in all honesty, overwhelmed with the number of surgeries in the past 72 hours, and rambling to your friends was your favorite pastime.
"She is taking you to L.A?" Cristina asked, with her eyes popping out of her face.
 "That is like a rendevouz!" She teased while staring at you intensively, almost as if trying to get a reaction from you.
"I wish Alex would take me to L.A," Izzie replied with a dreamy look. You rolled her eyes at their fake commotion.
"We are just getting some eggs back. It is a boring work trip." You moved to your locker, grabbing some snacks. "I may also meet some of her doctor friends. They work at this private practice... maybe I'll even transfer," you joked, this time Cristina running her eyes at you and Izzie muffling a laugh.
"You wouldn't dare!" Meredith said, punching you with her elbow. You all laughed this time, knowing there was no other place where you would rather be.
The trip with Addison, however, was completely unusual. During the plane, Addison was overly nice, trying to learn more about you, and giving you space to get to know her, too. When you finally arrived and entered her rented red car, you saw her smile from ear to ear while silence surrounded the both of you. You debated if you should be the first to say something, opting to make it less awkward.
"I never seen you like this," you say, admiring the beach at your left.
"Like what?" she asked, quickly glancing you with an arched brow.
"So free. It's... Its a good look on you," you replied, this time looking at your hands. These words just felt out of your mouth, and you knew you had jeopardized your friendship. To Addie, that was the moment she ralized you saw her for who she was.
To your helpless self, every moment on that trip felt like a date. You stayed at a 4-stars hotel, you had dinner at a 4-stars restaurant, you met her friends, and you even helped her with others case. To you, that was the moment everything changed.
After returning to Seattle, Addison started being bolder. She would randomly compliment you, and even let you operate by yourself once. You had no idea why, but you chose not to complain either. The others just guessed that Addison was glad to have someone interested in obstetrics and gynecology.
It was not until she broke up with Derek and headed to Joe’s bar that you had it figure it out.
You spent the entire night watching her. Addison looked enchantingly sad, and she probably did not want to see you – you were best friends with Meredith, after all. If she noticed your heavy look on her, she made sure to hide it. You did not make a move until you saw her running into the bathroom crying, and you quickly chased after her.
"Hey," you said with a worried look on your face. "I know I am probably one of the last person you want to see, but I am here." Addison did not know if it was the drinking talking or the way you were looking at her – like she mattered – but the only thought in her head was how she had to have you. Without hesitating, she pulled you closer and kissed you.
It did not matter you were kissing in a bathroom.
It did not matter you were her intern.
You fastly wrapped your arms around her, deepening the kiss. You moaned as her thigh pressed against your core, and then she broked the kiss, biting your lower lip.
"Let's go to my hotel room," Addison said, lacing your hands with hers.
You had been going out for three months in pure secret. Apart from Joe and Cristina knowing, really, because hey, they know how to keep a secret. You were extremely careful in public, and the one time you were not, Derek caught you two.
It was past midnight, and none of your friends were around. You were on call, and she kissed you goodbye as she ran her fingers through your hair. It was also on this very passionate moment that the both of you heard something fall into the ground. When you turned your back, there was Sheppard with his mouth wide open and his pager on the floor.
"Should we run?" You whispered, alternating between looking at her and Derek.
"He will get over it," Addie shrugged, smiling at you.
As you finished breathing in and out, you looked at Meredith and Cristina, smiling. You had just delayed the marriage in a couple of minutes because of an anxiety attack.
"I am ready," you pronounced and they nodded. As they left, you waited about one minute to start walking down the aisle. When you arrived, you closed your eyes, holding back tears. She looked like the most beautiful woman in the world.
"Our time was wondrous," you whispered to her, holding back a laugh. "I want start my vows with a legend. The legend of an invisible red string, which ties two people together – those who are meant to meet, no matter how far apart they live or how different they lives are. And I, with my whole heart, believe that because of the odds of the universe, all along there was some string tying you to meet–" you began, and as you observed her smile and the admiring faces of the crowd, you knew you had found your new home.

Summary: Duke’s parents recover and come home. Written for Duke Week 2021 Day Six: Family Bonding.
I was going to write something angstier for this prompt, but it actually turned into just the comfort part of hurt/comfort. Sometimes I need a good cry about something good happening to characters I love.
Also read it here on AO3!
-
His parents were back.
His parents were back, and Duke could cry and cry and cry forever. He sobbed into his mom’s shoulder for who knows how long when he saw them. His mom pat his back—he was taller than her now—and murmured to him, “It’s okay, baby bird. We’re here.”
The use of the nickname he hadn’t heard since he was in elementary school made him sob harder.
His mom and his dad were, were okay, their mouths weren’t contorted into unnatural grins and they didn’t carry that gleam of hatred and they said they were so sorry and they loved him so much and wow, hadn’t he grown up so much—he turned out to be the spitting image of his mother, didn’t he think?
Duke didn’t think he’d ever stop crying.
“I missed you,” he blubbered. “I missed you every day, I swear, I tried so hard to find a cure or something—”
His dad smiled at him, softly, tears in the corners of his eyes. “And you did. We’re right here, Duke. You brought us back.”
He had to call Jay to pick them up, because his parents no longer had licenses and Duke didn’t trust his hands to not shake in the full force of his joy.
-
In the days that followed, Duke didn’t go out as the Signal. How could he? This all felt like a fever dream; he’d been wanting this for so long. If he didn’t spend every waking moment with his parents, he feared they could revert back to what they were, and it would be a dream after all.
Jay took a few days off of work, and Duke called in sick for a few days at school. The Thomas family glowed with genuine grins, because they were whole. They spent the time catching his mom and dad up on what they missed, and having fun playing games or going out the rest of the time. To his dad’s chagrin, Duke had gotten much better at chess, but no one could beat his mom at Monopoly.
Then life came crashing down around them. Jay had to go to work, Duke had to go back to school, and his parents needed to begin a new chapter of their lives. Unbeknownst to Jay and his parents, Duke skipped his first day back at school to chase down a string of thefts he’d read about in the news.
He could never stay away from Signal for long. Gotham needed him, needed all the help it could get.
It wasn’t a difficult case, by any means. Mad Hatter was about as subtle as a barge. Still, Duke embraced the thrill of hunting them down, as the trail of clues led him right towards a newly opened costume store, Wonderland Haberdashery.
Again. Subtle as a barge.
“What are we waiting for?” a man dressed as a giant white rabbit complained.
The dormouse next to him shushed him loudly. She hissed, “The boss’ signal.”
Duke took that as his cue. He launched into action, running forward with a well-timed punch to the rabbit’s face. “You’ve got one right here.” (Those jokes never got old.)
He let himself loose, using all of his training as well as his own metahuman power to demolish his way through the storybook-themed goons. He couldn’t fight the grin on his face; he was having too much fun. His heart reached a thunderous frenzy in his ears and he loved every second of it. These guys couldn’t touch him.
When the time came to knock out Jervis Tetch himself, Duke obliged with glee. He’d just finished tying him to the wall when his phone buzzed with a notification.
It was three, school was over, and he should be heading home. His parents should be home.
His parents were home. It still felt surreal.
He ran into Jay’s apartment and kicked off his shoes faster than he ever had when doing a superheroic change of clothes.
“Hey Mom! Hey Dad! I’m home!” he called. When he heard no response, a chill went down his spine, and he rushed to the living room. There, his parents sat on the couch, fixated on the TV. The news channel was on, talking about an altercation at—oh.
It was talking about him.
“That’s you,” his mom said without turning back to look at him.
A wad of bile as large as a stone formed in his throat. He knew Bruce probably had contingencies for if anyone guessed his identity. Deny it, prove that he was in school, get a shapeshifter to pose as Signal in the same room as him. But he couldn’t stop himself from saying, “Yeah.” He couldn’t, he wouldn’t lie to his parents. “Are you upset?”
He’d imagined this scenario many times. What would his parents say about his vigilantism? He was risking his life every time he was out there, and no parent would want that, but he was helping Gotham. He was helping Gotham’s people, just like they had taught him to do.
“Let me take a look at you,” his mom told him, beckoning him towards the couch. Duke listened, sitting in between his mom and dad. His mom cupped his face with her rough hands, and he leaned into the touch. “It’s dangerous,” she murmured; Duke squeezed his eyes shut.
A firm arm reached around his shoulders, holding him tight. His dad. “But you’re happy,” he said.
Duke nodded, his chin trembling.
They dwelled in a moment’s pause, until he was being hugged from both sides. Duke opened his eyes to see his parents with faint smiles. “We couldn’t be there for you,” said his mom, “but you found yourself.”
“I did,” Duke whispered, crying for the millionth time this week. “I did.”
“We’re so, so unbelievably proud of the person you’ve grown up to be, baby bird. We just wish… we just wish we could have been here to see it happen.”
-
His parents laid down some ground rules. No more skipping school unless he had all his assignments done and he had straight A’s. He had to be home for dinner, and after sundown he was off his shift. He could join night shift with the other Bats only twice a week in a limited capacity, and he had to go to sleep before midnight on school nights. And he would tell Jay his secret.
That had been the hardest one. Duke could barely get the words out, suddenly filled with shame for not telling Jay earlier.
But as it turned out, Jay already suspected it. “I’m no genius, but you’re disappearing constantly. I can never find you. Wayne takes you out of Gotham all the time. That’s not just an internship, Duke.” His jaw hardened. “But don’t think that I’m going to be the cool cousin now and let you break any of those new rules your parents set. Safety first.”
Duke rolled his eyes and hugged him. “Love you, man.”
“Love you too, rascal.”
He had to let Bruce know. He’d been keeping in touch with Bruce throughout all of this, but sparingly. He got the vibe that Bruce was keeping his distance out of respect for him and his parents.
Well, no more of that. Duke shot off a text to Bruce to let him know he was coming, then pocketed his phone. “Hey, Mom? Dad? You wanna ride with me on my motorcycle to Wayne Manor?”
He wouldn’t have actually done it (it was too big of an identity risk), but it was worth it to see his parents’ briefly stunned looks before his dad started chasing him with a noogie at the ready.
Jay drove them all to Wayne Manor. His mom and dad walked out of the car tentatively, scrutinizing their surroundings. Duke fidgeted with his shirt, wondering what they thought. For all intents and purposes, this was his home, if only for a little over a year.
Duke rang the doorbell, ready to greet Alfred, but it was Bruce who opened the door for once. The way he held himself struck Duke. It wasn’t extravagant and flighty like Brucie, nor grim and tense like Batman. Duke’s family were some of the very few to see Bruce Wayne as he really was, without a persona.
“You took Duke in while we were… unavailable,” his mom said before Bruce could say hello.
“Yes,” replied Bruce calmly, wearing something on his face Duke didn’t often see. Vulnerability. Anxiety .
His dad held out his hand. “Doug Thomas. Thank you. Thank you for taking care of our boy.”
“It was a pleasure.” Bruce shook Duke’s dad’s hand. “Duke was a delight to mentor and guide. I’m glad he has you both back.”
Duke grinned. “He says I’m a delight but he didn’t think so every time I snuck out of the Manor to track down a lead.”
“You were supposed to be on bed rest.”
“And I rested, in a bed, after I solved the case! I do it every night when I sleep—that’s working overtime on bed rest, Bruce.”
“And you won’t be pulling any of that with us, young man,” his mom told him in a stern tone.
Duke quickly made his eyes as wide, pleading, and innocent as possible. He would never, he was about to say, when Bruce told them to come in.
“A better man than I expected him to be,” his dad said once Bruce had moved far enough he wouldn't hear. His mom hummed in agreement. “And Duke, you felt safe with him?”
Duke snorted. “Define safe.”
“Smartass,” Jay muttered, behind the three of them. He’d been through the tour already. He had a begrudging respect for Bruce, but he wasn’t impressed.
“And who taught me to do that, ever since I was a little kid?”
Duke yelped as he dodged a smack from Jay. “I’m fragile, don’t hurt me!”
“You’re not fragile,” said the amused voice coming from down the hall. Cass, here because Duke asked her to be. Because he wanted his family to meet his family.
“Oh! Mom, Dad, Jay, this is Cass.” He dragged them over to meet her. “She’s like… she’s my sister.”
Cass nodded, observing Duke’s family. “Good to meet you.”
At his parents’ confused glance, he told them, “When you were gone, I made new friends, but I also found new family. Cass isn’t your daughter or Jay’s cousin, but she’s my sister.” In his chest, he felt a weight alleviate, one he hadn’t even been aware of. “Wait until you meet Damian. Remember how I always wanted a baby brother when I was a kid, but you guys kept telling me that I was enough of a handful?”
As he kept introducing his parents to the family he made, he felt a warmth grow within him, tickling his ribs, infecting his lungs. It was like he couldn’t do anything but beam from ear to ear, now that he had almost everyone important in his life gathered together. (He would introduce them to Izzy, Riko, and the rest of the Robins soon.)
His family had been shattered, but Duke had picked up the pieces and created something new. And it could never be the way it was, but that was okay. Duke was happy with his family the way it was now.
His parents were home; all his family was home. Duke couldn’t be happier.

I am not for the faint of heart. - jhn suh
Tumblr media
sypnosis: The mysterious ones always end up ruining your life—literally. Or not.
word count: 1.1k
genre: angst, maybe? idrk
a/n: it's been so long since i posted here! i do hope i still get to post some of my works before the new semester starts. for now, i hope you like this piece! :)
Tumblr media
“Have you never tried this?” He says, handing me a stick from his pack of cigars.
That’s Johnny Suh for you, resident bad boy from the state of Chicago. No, scratch that. He’s not necessarily a “bad” boy. A thrill-seeker, perhaps?
You silently watch how he kisses the stick between his two fingers and how white swirling lines escape from the curves of his mouth.
Being this close to an action you’ve sworn you’ll never do makes you feel excited, jumpy even. The thought of “being free” from the chains that kept you hidden sparks a new interest in your world full of walls and isolation.
Eager to experience this new adventure, you take the stick from his hands and do the same. Though, it does make you cough a lot more than you expected.
“Easy, girl. You have to take it slow.” He says as you feel his cheek pop out from your left shoulder, face only inches away from yours. He guides your hand back to his lips, demonstrating how it’s done. “See that? Don’t rush, babe.”
Before you know it, Johnny Suh has taken you to a lot of dates, sometimes going for the extremes—especially those you least expected. You didn’t really care. You just wanted to get out of this hellhole you’re trapped in.
However, you do wonder why he’s never taken you to those cliché dates you’ve seen in movies. Not that you’re getting sick of the wild ride. I guess there are times where you’d rather prefer vanilla over rum and raisin.
“Johnny?” You call out despite the wind hitting hard on your face, city lights passing like neon lines thanks to his revved up engine.
“Yes, babe?” He asks, roughly palming your bare, left thigh, his hand switching from your thigh and the gearshift from time to time.
“Why are you so mysterious?”
“Mysterious? Me?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t think I am, darling.” He smiles and gives you a wink.
Alluring. Captivating. It’s crazy. You’ve never been so interested in a man out of your league, and you wonder how he’s also so interested in you. What is this mutual force binding you together?
Race cars and stop lights. Police sirens and the chase. Oh, the thrill of it all. I must be living in this getaway car fantasy.
Blurred, sometimes ever so distant. You can’t figure him out. But still, you go. You go follow him, chase after him. You find yourself in a whirlwind full of surprises, of silk, white bed sheets drenched in alcohol scent.
Nights with him are mad, demented sometimes. Contrary to that, kisses with him are soft and gentle, like the cherry on top of your favorite vanilla sundae. But goddam, the sex is insane, taking you to the next level. Don’t fret, the morning aftercare is just as sweet as the taste of his lips.
“One month.” He whispers, your ear ticklish, it makes you giggle. “Are you sure you can handle me?”
“When did I never?”
For one whole month, you enjoyed the thrill. The thrill of losing insanity, of feeling free. The thrill of never going back to the person you once were. You handled it pretty well, all his crazy antics. His jokes make you laugh, you just shush the corny ones.
Johnny Suh, what a man you are. Thank you for making me feel this way.
One month out of delusion. One month of shocking revelations. One month of soft kisses and hard sex. One month of aftercare. One month nuzzling his chest. One month of licks and bites. One month drenched in his scent. One month cuddled in his arms. One month. One month.
The month is over, he never saw you again.
He never picked you up in front of your doorstep.
He never called you.
He never showed up unannounced.
He never threw rocks at your window.
Just because the month is over, that’s why.
Looking back, it was all so spontaneous. How he agreed to be your boyfriend at first glance. “Yes,” he said. No questions asked. You wondered why, but all you could ever think of was you needed him. You never really knew his intentions for agreeing, you were just so happy he said yes.
A month? Two months? The time spent with him was short. But hey, it was definitely the best. The best you could ever experience in your entire life.
But here’s the important question: did you love him in those two months?
From my eyes, yes you did. You loved him each and every day. You loved him the more you got to know him. You loved him despite the ever so mysterious aura he had. You loved him. You loved him to death, every single day.
And you’re wondering… did he love me too?
A month passed. Six months. A year. He never saw you even once. But on a night you least expected, he was there. The moon was full, bright as the stars, shining like the sun. Of all days he could visit you, he went on your birthday.
You never told him that. The thing is, no matter how much of a wild ride you’re both on, you never shared the most intimate details about yourselves. You never shared birthdays, you never shared childhood experiences, you never shared about family either.
It was really a surprise to see him there in front of you. His hair was cut short unlike before, but long enough to cover his eyes. The black polo suited him perfectly, just like the last dinner date you had last year.
You were happy to see him, but he was not happy to see you.
He was not sad, but he did have a blank face.
He brought flowers for you, a mix of white and yellow. Daffodils. They were your favorite. Maybe you did tell him one thing about you.
“I’m here,” he says, spreading out the flowers for you. “I found someone new.”
“She helped me. She tamed me. She tamed the beast so hungry for you. But the beast, even though full, was empty. I was empty.”
“But now, I’m ready. Ready to begin. Ready to start anew. Ready to let go.”
“I loved you. I truly loved you. But I guess my love was too much for you to handle, huh?”
“Even before, I told you. Although I said yes, from your eyes, you insisted. I saw desperation. How could I not agree with those eyes?”
You don’t say a word but you see him smiling, the genuine type of smile.
He kisses you, one last time.
“I can’t believe I kissed you again,” He chuckles. “This feels new.”
“I told you before, I am not for the faint of heart.” He smiles. “But I did hope your faint heart was happy.”
For the last time, he walked away until you were out of his vision. He never imagined to see you again, much more kissing the portrait on your grave.

Fuyuhiko x Reader who won’t confess
·       Of all people you could have fallen for, why did it have t be the YAKUZA BOSS!? He has a bad temper on top of that! What if you tried asking him out and he was insulted by it so he had you killed!? Nope! No! You couldn’t do it! You were way too scared! It would be best you ignore the feelings…
·       …
·       But how could you!? Sure, he was a hot head, but he was a good guy, kind and loyal to his friends. It didn’t help either that you saw each other every day because you were in the same class. It also REALLY didn’t help that your best friend there was Peko, her and Fuyuhiko never spent much time together but the few times they did they seems to be good friends, and Peko seemed to know a lot about Fuyuhiko, so the pair of you would end up talking about him and your crush on him often.
·       “I understand your apprehension, but you can try talking to him more, nothing has happened to our other classmates who have gotten close to him.” “Peko. Gurl. I am the Super High School Level Crime Boss. I may be bold and cunning, but I’m not going to approach the heir of the biggest and greatest crime syndicate in Japan with something like this. I could go with the excuse we are both great powers and should be on amicable terms so we don’t slaughter one another, but that would be a lie, and we don’t lie in my family.” “… Would it be a lie to say you wanted to get to know him because you like him, and he is your classmate?” “… Hmm… perhaps. Even so, I don’t need others on looking, possibly seeing us getting chummy and taking that as a threat.”
·       You didn’t avoid the man per se, but you did try to spend as little time with him as possible, fearful of him asking something in just the right way where you couldn’t dance around it and would have to confess. The few times you did get to spend time together was rather nice.
·       The wind rolled past carrying bright green leaves along with it, a much-needed break from the heat that came pouring down from the cloudless sky. You sighed, taking a sip of your cold drink. With the condensation on the glass, it slipped in your hands for a moment, almost spilling into your lap. You and Peko chatted away at the balcony of the café, loving the summer day. You sighed noticing Fuyuhiko from the corner of your eye. You had figured out long ago that Peko was Fuyuhiko’s secret bodyguard, the man always was near by whenever the pair of you spent time together outside of school. He was even generous and kind to his subordinates letting them live life outside of his syndicate. It truly kind man.
·       “Hmm, oh, Kuzuruyu, hello.” “Huh?” “What?” Clearly both you and the man were caught off guard, it evident on your faces. “What are you doing here?” “Uh… Well, this place just opened but I’ve heard nothing but good things, so I decided to check it out.” “Same with us. Say why don’t you join us?” You spat out your drink, choking on it mid-sip hearing the suggestion, thankfully for the heir who only would have gotten flustered if you had noticed the bright scarlet that had erupted on his cheeks when he approached you and Peko. “Y/N!?” “I’ll get some more napkins.” Peko immediately dashed off, leaving Fuyuhiko with you. You were still coughing, covering your face with napkins, embarrassed by the whole situation and not wanting your crush to see you like this. Nervously Fuyuhiko pat your back, feeling too awkward to do much else. When you settled down you were completely embarrassed but tried to remain calm and let the staff clean the table. “You okay?” “Physically, yes. Emotionally, no, I am a wreak right now.” “Ah.” …
·       …
·       Thankfully for the awkwardness neither of you tried to make idle chit-chat allowing you to notice… something. “Since the staff are taking care of things let’s look for Peko.” “Yeah.” Instead, you both immediately left the premises. Your suspicion was confirmed, you were being followed. At the first opportunity you raced to anything you could use for a quick getaway, a motorcycle this time. Mentally you apologized to the couple and made sure make a note to repay them with a new motorbike later as you slammed a helmet on Fuyuhiko’s head, dashing away on the bike.
·       “Sorry for getting you caught up in this. I recognize the bastard, some assassin who’s like a cockroach, won’t just die no matter how much lead I pump into em’!” A bang sounded, a gun having been fired, the bullet landing right beside the tire sending a few sparks flying. “A cockroach. I’ve dealt with the likes before. Focus on driving, I’ll take care of them.” “Alright. Let’s see how good of a shot you are!” A chuckle seeped out of you, the thrill of the chase always something you couldn’t help but enjoy no matter the danger. With a rev of the engine you took a sharp turn, turning around, leaving skid marks on the pavement as you did so before charging head on for the car behind you. Fuyuhiko blew out a tire as you raced past. “Only two in the car, usually has at least ten assistants. Don’t let your guard down!” “Wasn’t going too. This isn’t my first assassination plot.” “Except you’re a bystander who got dragged in this time, so at least you aren’t the primary target.”
·       Fuyuhiko kept up carefully aimed fire, only having so-many bullets, but you though trying to escape and dodge fire you also specifically made opportunities for Fuyuhiko to get good shots in on any attackers.
·       “Fuck! Gun’s jammed!” “OF COURSE!” Fuyuhiko kept muttering swears under his breath desperately trying to get the damn thing to work again. You looked over your shoulder for a moment, finding Fuyuhiko opted the hurl the junk at the car, cracking the windshield right on the driver’s side. “Hah! Nice one.” “Don’t celebrate just yet. We’re out of fire now.” “Hell no! We could die at any moment, so we’ve gotta celebrate when we can!” You laughed, speeding away as the car behind you wavered, almost crashing. Still though it made chase. Now it was completely up to you to keep you both alive. Taking a sharp turn off the street you instead raced down an alleyway in between buildings. You smiled seeing where you were. “Take in that ocean air Kuzuryu! We’re almost home free!” “Home free you say? Alright, show me what you’ve got!”
·       “There’s more assassins!” “Got it.” Unfortunately the streets by the sea side were much narrower than deeper in the city so dodging was near impossible, all you could do was weave between cars and hope for the best.
·       “Kuzu, Hold on tight!” You dashed through traffic, turning into the opposite lane and cutting across it, slipping between spaces in the railing. Unfortunately, the hill beyond the railing was a bit steeper than you remembered, the pair of you being in the air for a while before crashing down, wavering too much you could only keep balance for a few moments before flipping over.
·       “Hey. Hey, Y/N!” You groaned, slowly getting up, your head ringing and the world swirling and spinning. “Y-you alright?” “For now, but we need to go!” Taking your arm he pulled you up and ran along. The motorcycle left deep marks in the ground, signaling where it crashed, pointing out where you were. “Just gotta get to the docks. We’ll be safe there.” “Got it!”
·       Quickly the pair of you ran along, hiding behind anything you could, from shrubbery to beach umbrellas, the gun fire raining down around you. However for a short time it did suddenly come to a stop. “Peko!” Indeed it was the swords woman, putting a stop to the attacks as long as she could.
·       “Young Master!” Finally you had reunited on the docks. Not stopping for even a moment you raced for a building, kicking the door down upon entering. “Get in the seaplane, now!” The moment your companions were in, you started the engine, immediately going not even giving them the opportunity to strap in.
·       You were surrounded by nothing but blue. Blue skys, blue water, not another plane or boat in sight. You let out a shaky breath, shuttering. “Holy hell, I have not had a chase like that in a while! You two okay? If not there’s a first aid kit under my seat. If you have any serious injuries we’ll have to land and do work on the wing of the plane. But if it can wait for an hour or so we can take care of it on the island.” It was a rather small plane, just for personal use so there was little room, only enough for four seats to be squished against to one another. “I’m fine. Peko-” “I am unharmed. However, you have several cuts.” “Y/N, you’ve been shot!” You gritted your teeth, instead focusing on piloting. “Maybe… but it can wait.” “No! You’re landing this thing right now!” “Kuzuryu! The island has much better supplies for this, and though I know there are no other sea planes in the docks they could have them hidden elsewhere and I want minimal risk of them finding us and my private hideaway. So we have to out run them” “… Fine, but we’re using the first aid kit on you.”
·       You winced as Peko and Fuyuhiko tried patching the wound as best they could. The bullet didn’t get in too deeply but the longer your flight went on the more that fiery pain seeped into you, it no longer being ignorable as your adrenaline lowered and slowed. You could feel our heart pounding against your rib cage, your breathing getting heavier. “Y/N, you’re pale.” “I-I’m fine.” “Like Hell you are! Don’t pull that bull shit with me!” “I can fly this thing, if I can keep doing that I’m fine. It… it’s not too much farther now.”
·       …
·       You were in the cabin. “A-aunty, Uncle.” You smiled, knowing you had arrived at the island safely seeing the elderly pair. “Wh-where’s my guests? How are they?” The woman simply gestured to the wide open doors leading to your tropical paradise, the sand and ocean waves so close, Fuyuhiko and Peko standing in the frame. Fuyuhiko had a few bandages but seemed fine. Both of them looked relived. “Boss shall we leave you with your guests?” “Yeah, but before you go, how long till I’m healed?” “You may get up now.” You looked questioningly to the older gentleman. “We sedated you with sleeping drugs this time so you would not have to just lie in bed and constantly sneak out instead of resting for your health.” “H-hey! I’m not that reckless!” “Boss, you had three bullet wounds.” You simply shriveled in your bed. “I-I needed to check on everyone else myself. Too many got injured that time. Those basters needed to pay.” “And you can not risk your health when doing so, Boss.” “… Thank you, Uncle. You and Aunty prepare some food for us.” In unison the elderly folk said ‘Yes, boss’ heeding your command and making their leave. “I shall assist.” And Peko left with them. Slowly you sat up, getting out of bed. “Well… care for a walk? I feel rather sluggish from having slept for several days at least apparently.” “Sure.”
·       Even if you would regret it later, you could safely spend time with the man now, knowing none other than Peko where here to protect him and heed his command. Just this once you could get a little closer without fear, and more importantly, learn exactly how bad his injuries were.
·       You took the chance to explain to Fuyuhiko just who exactly your assailants were, how they were actually an organization made by rogue government officials who wanted you dead no matter the consequences. How this island was your personal place you only allowed the most trusted of family members in your organization to go to, or those injured should this place be the most convenient, how you ‘Aunty’ and ‘Uncle’ were individuals who had worked in your organization since you first created it and were like family though not actually being blood related to you or even married to one another. And… you just kept talking like how you found this island and made it your home away from home, about school and your classmates. You both just talked about whatever through the day.
·       And soon there you were sitting on the sandy shore, looking up to the starlit sky. “Really? I don’t believe it.” “No, I really did crash the car there.” “You call the assassins cockroaches, but that more so describes you.” “What!?” Fuyuhiko couldn’t help but chuckle a little seeing your reaction. “Yeah, surviving car crashes, being shot through the chest, poisoning, now a motorcycle crash. Seems you’re unkillable.” “Excuse me, but all of those were calculated risks!” “Exactly. Even in crazy situations you can keep calm and take the less disastrous outcome…” His smile faded, a more serious expression taking on his features. “Y’know… When I step up as the leader of the Kuzuryu clan, I’ll need someone strong, and capable by my side… maybe… someone like you.” “……… Are you… confessing, or am I horribly misreading this.” Fuyuhiko froze, a blush flaring up on his cheeks. “Well, I think we worked rather well together today so… W-wanna go out?” “Yes! Absolutely yes!” “O-oh… alright then.” Clearing his throat he stood up. “Well… it’s getting late, I’m shoving off to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow… maybe you could give me a run of the grounds here?” “Yeah, definitely!” “Good… I’m looking forward to it.”
·       “Oh my god, Peko, I finally asked them out! And they said ‘Yes’!” “Good for you, Young Master.” “I didn’t even hesitate! I know you said they it would be safe since nothing had happened to our other classmates, but… they’re still the Boss of the greatest crime syndicate over seas! This could have gone horribly and I just did it! I didn’t even use the excuse we should be on good terms or allies, so we don’t kill each other. I just asked them out!”
·       Even if Peko’s plan didn’t go quite as she thought it would it still worked out. Her duty is to protect her young master, so it would not do for him to kill himself due to stressing over asking his crush out. She already knew things were going to turn out great for the pair of you. You were so alike and so drastically different you just complimented one another perfectly.

I Don’t Own an IPhone: Wanna Trade? 4
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Previous: “Lila must have been akumatized again,” Nino said getting up and dragging Jon out of the store.“Let’s fix this,” Adrien said to Alya and Chloe who rolled their eyes.“Don’t think we didn’t see the way you were staring Jon up and down, it wasn’t cute,” Alya said as Trixx came out of her jacket.“Seriously Adriekins, do you even know what you want?” Chloe asked putting her comb in her hair.“Women,” Adrien sighed. “Plagg claws out!”
AHHHHHHH this was supposed to come out yesterday but I forgot to que it!
Chapter 4: Turtles and Dinner Dates
Pollinator and Hoodwink glared at Chat as they jumped through the city chasing after the akumatized Lila.
Jon watched in bewilderment  as Nino’s hand tightened on his wrist dragging him through back alleyways in the opposite direction. “Nino, where are we going? Alya, Chloe, and Adrien are still back at the cafe,” Jon asked pulling back against Nino’s grip.
“It’s better to split up during attacks trust me,” Nino said trying to come up with an excuse praying that Jon didn’t see through it.
Alya looked at the earrings in her hands sighing, she would either have to put them in now or come back later and deal with the butterfly and akumatized object in order to use the lucky charm. She could always use a mirage.
“I am Myth Weaver and I make lies become reality! Adrien Agreste will love me,” Weaver said waving a wand in the air and Chat’s eyes widened before extending his staff out to her stopping the motion.
“Don’t let her cast any more spells,” Chat said and the girls rolled their eyes.
“Yeah, we’ll try,” Hoodwink said putting in the earrings not unifying yet but casting a perfectly planned mirage.
Marinette looked at Jon’s phone sighing as a text from Jason showed up.
From Jason Todd What hotel are you staying at? B wants to have you over for dinner He didn’t think that I could make friends How rude is that?
Marinette rolled her eyes before typing back.
To Jason Todd Who’s B? And I’m staying at Wayne Suites Hotel.
Marinette tucked the phone back into her purse before looking up to see Audrey walking toward her arms open before pulling her into a hug. “Marinette darling, let me show you the ropes of business ownership. I know that if there is one designer out there who can surpass Gabriel and his dreadful white collection it’s you. Don’t tell anyone but I’m getting a bit too old for the drama and I must go back and visit my daughter at some point. This is our Jersey studio make yourself at home,” Audrey said before running over to someone and yelling at them.
“I’ll do my best,” Marinette mumbled out before reaching for the phone in her purse.
From Jason Todd B is complicated but he’s Damian’s dad and Damian is Jon’s boyfriend, remember? One would think you’d want to meet the guy you texted right? Get to know him a bit
Marinette snorted, it was like Jason was trying to set them up or something, she exited the app before thinking. This was Jon’s boyfriend and Jon was nice, she wouldn’t want him to… no wait that wouldn’t be so bad. If Jon texted Adrien as her and she texted Damian as him then maybe they could fix any problems in their relationships, or at least her problems. She reopened the app typing aggressively.
To Jason Todd Be there at five.
From Jason Todd You’re not going to regret this
“Oh yes I am,” Marinette said to herself as Audrey came back and started guiding her through the building.
Jon’s eyes widened as a huge rock came flying at him. Sure Jon was used to danger, in fact he chased is for fun but he really wasn’t expecting an akuma on his first day in Paris. He actually wasn’t expecting any of this to be honest.
“No!” Nino yelled running back toward him. “Wayzz, shell on!” Nino called out being enveloped in green and taking a shell off his back before jumping in front of Jon blocking the rock which shattered to millions of pieces on impact. Nino breathed out a sigh of relief keeled over before turning back to Jon who’s eyes were bulging out of his face.
“Oh my Rao, what are you Sailor Moon or some shit?” Jon asked gesturing to Nino freaking out.
“You can’t tell anyone, promise me you won’t tell anyone,” Nino said grabbing Jon’s shoulders shaking him viciously.
“Yeah, as long as you answer a couple of questions for me,” Jon said and Nino nodded. “Who are you? When and where are you meeting Superman?” Jon asked and Nino looked confused.
“They call me Protector and we’re meeting Superman in a day at midnight on the Eiffel Tower. How did you know we were meeting with Superman?” Protector asked.
“I’m a reporter’s son and I lived in Metropolis, it’s how I was raised, to follow Superman wherever he goes and get every bit of information out of the situation. I just wanted to get some pictures for my parents,” Jon said waving Protector’s question off easily. Suddenly ladybugs were flying around everywhere and they fixed the rock.
“Ladybug fixed everything, we should go meet back up with the others,” Nino said back in his regular clothes. Something seemed off, the others were so sure that Nino could keep him safe, Adrien’s name in Marinette’s phone is chaton, there’s four friends who all look somewhat similar to the heroes. Jon smirked to himself, he found the heroes of Paris and now he would be able to see Paris’ situation from a whole new angle.
Marinette stood outside her hotel in a black dress with pink flowers crawling along the hem, hair pulled into a half ponytail, pink high heels, and a white purse with a trick pocket phone tucked in carefully along with the mouse miraculous. A fancy car pulled up in front of her and the window was lowered and Jason called out to her.
Marinette was terrified, she had figured out earlier that she would be dining with the batfamily from photos on Jon’s phone and Damian being Robin and Jon being Superboy. She also knew that she was in a car with a murderer but if anything bad happened she always had her training and Mullo up her sleeve, she would be able to shock him enough to get out of any bad situation. Jason did seem harmless enough though and she had read up on the news and it seemed that Red Hood had turned over a new leaf.
“We’re here,” Jason said rousing her from her thoughts as he opened his door walking around the car to open hers helping her out. She looked up and her eyes widened at the house, no manor, in front of her.
“You live here?” Marinette asked. The place was bigger than Gabriel’s.
“Yup, now come on we have dinner to get to,” Jason said smiling walking up the front steps and Marinette quickly followed.
Damian was not thrilled about the family dinner that was called this morning. Jason seemed insistent that the whole family meet his new friend. He just wanted the whole thing to be over so he could talk to Jon, hopefully his beloved would be up by then. He had to fight the Joker the previous night and couldn’t text him back but he didn’t want Jon to be worried or anything, he hoped the younger wasn’t mad at him.
Damian adjusted his shirt thinking, Jason had made a friend, a friend who he thought was worth the family dinner treatment. She couldn’t be his girlfriend, Jason never said he broke up with Roy so who was this girl? Damian shook his head before walking down the stairs and saw Jason and his friend, she was too good for Jason and Jason was in no way worth her time.
Marinette stared at the boy before her, this was Damian? She felt guilt crawl through her chest. He’s in a relationship, he’s in a relationship, he’s in a… holy shit he’s hotter in person. Marinette couldn’t help but admire him for a moment before remembering he was a hot asshole.
Coughing roused the three from their thoughts as Alfred stood in the doorway smiling. “Dinner is almost ready,” Alfred said and Jason nodded in the direction of the dining room letting Marinette go first. She walked into the room and eight pairs of eyes settled on her.
“Welcome to Wayne Manor,” Jason said and Marinette gulped grasping her purse, just one dinner.

Folklore’s Queer Love Triangle
2. Cardigan (Betty POV)    14. Betty (James POV)    8. August (Other Woman POV)
_____
First about James being a girl:
1. Nowhere in any of the songs is it explicitly stated what James’s gender is. We only know that there are two women as part of the triangle- Betty and the other/“August” girl- which is stated in “Cardigan”: /Chase two girls, lose the one/
2. We know there is precedent for James being a gender neutral/girls name (Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’s daughter).
3. Not saying it’s autobiographical by any means, but Taylor is named after James Taylor- ergo the name is close to home.
4. I can’t think of another reason to deliberately leave out the gender of James between all three songs -  which, by its very omission implies a certain queer interpretation, especially when it’s being sung by a woman about loving women.
5. This may be quibbling over minute details but, when James says in “Betty”: /Standing in your cardigan/ - while it’s certainly not impossible, I find it far more likely that a female James is wearing her (ex?) girlfriend’s cardigan, rather than a boy wearing his girlfriend’s cardigan. In my experience it seems more typical in a m/f relationship that the girl would wear her boyfriend’s jacket/sweater rather than the other way around, but… who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
_____
Second, all the moments where the lyrics overlap or answer each other:
Cardigan:
/High heels on cobblestones/
Betty:
/I was walking home on broken cobblestones/
*
Cardigan:
/When you are young, they assume you know nothing/
Betty:
/I’m only seventeen/
I don't know anything but I know I miss you/
*
Cardigan:
/Chase two girls, lose the one/
Betty:
/The worst thing that I ever did/
Was what I did to you/
*
Cardigan:
/To kiss in cars and downtown bars/
/Drunk under a streetlight/
Betty:
/Kissing in my car again/
Stopped at a streetlight/
*
Cardigan:
/And when I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone's bed/ You put me on and said I was your favorite/
Betty:
/Standing in your cardigan/
*
Cardigan:
/I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired/
And you'd be standing in my front porch light/
And I knew you'd come back to me/
Betty:
/Betty, I'm here on your doorstep/
/Will you kiss me on the porch in front of all your stupid friends?/
/But I know I miss you/
*****************
August:
/And I can see us twisted in bedsheets/
Betty:
/Slept next to her but/
*
August:
/So much for summer love, and saying "Us”/
'Cause you weren't mine to lose/
Betty:
/In the garden would you trust me/
If I told you it was just a summer thing?/
*
August:
/Remember when I pulled up/
And said "Get in the car”/
Betty:
/Just thinking of you when she pulled up/
Like a figment of my worst intentions/
She said "James, get in, let's drive”/
_____
Third, a summary:
I truly think it’s reasonable to believe that between these three songs there’s a wlwlw love triangle, with the main love story being between James and Betty. Put into the narrative of a high school queer romance- which are scary and beautiful and often times precarious- it makes a perfect kind of sense.
We have James who is in a relationship with Betty, but at a school dance sees Betty dancing with a boy and (it’s implied) believes she’s lost her. Now, to me it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense that a boy would see Betty dancing with another guy and just straight up give up on their relationship. However, James as a girl- during high school when most kids are still in the closet, in her first romance with another girl, seeing her worst fear (seemingly) confirmed - that Betty would leave her for a guy - and then giving up because she believes Betty’s chosen someone else? That makes a certain queer kind of sense.
Then at some point James is walking home alone (possibly even right after the dance) and along comes another girl “August”, who is clearly very interested in James. One could assume James might be thinking- she’s lost the girl she loves, there probably aren’t a lot of other options for her, and who else is going to pick her? Maybe it could work with this other girl. But instead she spends the whole summer thinking about the one she’s still in love with: Betty.
Meanwhile poor August Girl has fallen for James, wanting her but knowing she won’t ever have James’s heart. She won’t even have her past the summer.
So by the summer’s end, the rumors have reached Betty (who, it’s implied, has not been seeing anyone else) via Inez about James and August Girl. Betty, clearly heartbroken, changes homerooms to avoid James. By this point it’s clear that James has ended things already with August Girl and just wants to make things right and get Betty back.
So James shows up at Betty’s party, asking if Betty will still have her, if she’ll take her back to the garden.
And Betty is there, like she has been all this time, waiting.
Tumblr media
TL;DR: James is a girl who is in love with Betty, and “Cardigan”, “August” and “Betty” are the exemplification of the perfect, aching longing that is the cornerstone of queer love stories.
Also I really hope August girl finds love because listening to “August” now in this context is genuinely heart breaking.

Mafia Itzy meeting their s/o for the first time
*Warning: mentioning of violence, blood, profanities*
Yeji
Tumblr media
Yeji huffed annoyed. This nightlife wasn’t as thrilling as it used to be. In the beginning, it was exciting to know that she could have everyone in this club, but by now, she was just bored. People were either scared or worshiped her because of her job. There was no challenge anymore.
“Don’t you like the offer?”
Junghwa, one of her sidekicks, asked with a smirk while pointing at all the people who were dancing downstairs. From the VIP lounge upstairs, Yeji had a perfect view on everyone, but she didn’t even bother to let her eyes wander. It had been months already since somebody had managed to spark her interest. Junghwa, however, didn’t stop bugging her until Yeji sighed in defeat and glanced down.
The club was completely packed. Some people were sitting in the booths at the sides, but most of them were moving their bodies to the rapid techno beats on the dancefloor at the heart of the club. Every now and then, Yeji caught someone staring at the VIP lounge, checking her out. A lot of people that were flaunting themselves down there just wanted to be invited by her to come upstairs. But it had been ages since she had last done that. For a while now, she came here alone and left without company again. If she wouldn’t own this club and use it for her diverse businesses, she wouldn’t even bother to come here anymore.
“I told you, Junghwa. No one can spark my in-“
Yeji was about to curb Junghwa’s excitement, when she fell silent in the middle of her sentence. Her eyes had landed on something, or better, someone that knocked the air out of her lungs.
You were dancing in the middle of the dancefloor, but Yeji had had no trouble spotting you. The way you moved your body was divine and everything on your body screamed perfection.
“Your interest?”
Junghwa chuckled beside her, but Yeji was too focused on you to respond.
“Shall I send someone to get them?”
She offered and Yeji nodded absentmindedly. You had to come up here. She needed to have a closer look.
But what happened next, was unexpected. Yeji observed one of her subordinates exiting the VIP lounge and squeezing himself through the moving crowd on the dancefloor, all the way to you. But after he had leaned down to whisper something into your ear, you simply shook your head and turned your back to him. Perplexed, he looked up at her before giving it another try. But once again, you turned him or better her down.
This had never happened before.
Everyone would kill to get an invitation to the VIP lounge and to get to her.
“What an idiot. Who do they think they are?”
Junghwa growled angrily, already getting ready to take care of you. But Yeji quickly held her back.
“I’ll take care of it.”
She stated calmly before making her way to the exit of the VIP lounge.
Everything about you was perfect. Your looks were breathtaking, and you didn’t seem to be interested in her or her influence at all.
Exactly the challenge that she was looking for.
Lia
Tumblr media
“I hate Mondays.”
Lia cursed while lunging behind a car, nearly escaping a bullet that had wanted to bore through her flesh.
The question of sovereignty in this city had been a highly discussed one in the past weeks and after countless passive threats and indirect attacks, her biggest enemy had decided to strike today. She had just left the restaurant after a business appointment when someone opened fire without a warning. Because it had been a peaceful meeting, Lia went in without a gun. Therefore, she was now trapped behind this car completely unarmed while her subordinates were returning fire.
“Miss, watch out!”
A sudden loud voice made Lia flinch but before she could react, a force slammed her to the ground. In the same moment, she heard a bullet passing only inches above her head before boring its way into the car.
“Oh my god, are you ok?”
You were hovering above her with a concerned look on your face and Lia seriously considered if she had just died. You had to be an angel. In complete awe, she stared at you until you ripped her out of her trance by crawling off her.
“This must be some sort of gang war. But don’t worry, we’ll make it out of here.”
Only now Lia realized how your whole body was shaking. You were just an innocent pedestrian that had been caught up in this shoot-out, terrified to die. And apparently you were thinking that the same had happened to her.
“I think we are just targeted by one shooter. Do you see the alley over there? If we are quick, we can reach the alley while they are reloading.”
You proposed breathlessly and Lia nodded absentmindedly, completely impressed with the way you handled this situation. You were smart and she felt herself falling for you more and more with every second.
“Ok, when I say ‘now’ we run.”
Suddenly, you took off your jacket, causing Lia to stare at you in confusion, but a second later, she could reconstruct your reasoning. You threw the jacket from behind the car, resulting in a hail of bullets being directed at the piece of clothing until the enormous noise suddenly stopped.
“NOW!!”
You yelled before grabbing her hand and starting to make a run for the alley.
The two of you were fast, but the shooter was too. Right before you could reach the alley, bullets flew in your direction again, causing Lia’s adrenaline level to rise significantly. After some more steps, however, she managed to reach the alley unscathed.
“That was a close one.”
She chuckled, but when she turned to look at you her demeanor changed immediately. You were looking even paler than before, clutching your stomach while red liquid was seeping through your fingers.
“Oh my god.”
Lia exclaimed in shock, immediately pulling out her phone.
“Pick me up at Manhwa restaurant. I don’t care if you have to get me with a tank. Just get me!”
You were starting to lose your conscious and Lia carelessly threw away her phone in order to stabilize you.
“Ok now, stay with me please.”
Gently, Lia patted your cheek, but you didn’t respond. Nervously, she held you in her arms, rocking you back and forth, waiting for the backup to finally show up. It felt like hours till several armored SUVs finally pulled up and returned fire. Some of her men immediately ran to her to check up on her, but Lia yelled at them to get you into the car.
“To the hospital!”
She exclaimed panicked once they were in safety.
“Don’t you worry now. I’ll take care of you from now on.”
Lia whispered into your ear after pulling you into her arms.
Ryujin
Tumblr media
“Let’s just get this meeting over with.”
Ryujin huffed annoyed while hesitating to get out of the car. A customer of hers hadn’t paid in a while, stalling her with stupid lies over and over again, but now she needed to put an end to this charade. Meetings like this were never pretty, but it had to be done. She took a last deep breath before absentmindedly pushing the car door open and stepping outside. Right when her feet touched the ground, a loud screeching sound could be heard, causing Ryujin to reflexively take up a defense stance. In front of her was no attacker, however, but just a common biker who was hanging over the handlebar of their bike, seeming to have made an emergency stop because of her.
“Are you blind??”
You yelled agitated, catching Ryujin completely off guard. You dared to yell at her?
“Don’t you know who I am?”
She scoffed dumbfounded while straightening herself in order to seem more threatening. This was her part of town. Everyone knew who she was, and no one dared to cross her.
“Don’t you know how to read?”
You asked cynically while pointing at the ground. Ryujin followed the direction of your digit finger with her eyes to find a big bicycle sign, indicating that she had stepped onto the bicycle lane without checking first.  You mumbled some more incomprehensible complains before shaking your head and speeding off as fast as you had almost crashed into her. Ryujin was completely speechless.
Who did you think you were?
“Should we send someone after them?”
Her subordinates had rushed to her side by now, witnessing parts of this highly unusual verbal duel. There was a clear protocol about how to deal with such impudence.
As much as Ryujin agitated herself over this encounter though, deep down she knew that you had been right to rebuke her. And to make things worse, she was also slightly impressed. Maybe you hadn’t known who she was, but no matter what, you had to be a person who stood up for themselves. And Ryujin liked that trait. A lot.
“Yes.”
Ryujin’s gaze was still fixed on the road, although you were already long gone. You had really sparked her interest.
Two of her subordinates immediately wanted to take up the chase, but she stopped them with a simple move of her hand.
“Don’t hurt them. Just observe. I want to know everything. Where they live, what they do, what they like. But don’t you dare to lay a finger on them.”
Her gaze was ice-cold as she stared down her subordinates who immediately noticed the graveness of this situation. Intimidated, they nodded before rushing off. She hoped for their sakes that they would find you. Her fascination with you was making her skin tingle and she needed to know more about you. Her disappointment if she wouldn’t be able to, would have a deadly outcome.
Chaeryeong
Tumblr media
Chaeryeong sighed relieved; finally, some time to herself. She knew that she needed protection as the leader of a clan- she had thousands of enemies after all. But once in a while, she just liked to take a walk on her own. Her subordinates were around her 24/7 and she needed a break every now and then. Of course, she wasn’t stupid though. She always had her guard up and a loaded gun in reach And today that carefulness seemed to pay off. She had been strolling through the streets without a pattern for approximately an hour, when she noticed an abnormality.
You.
First, she had seen you entering a café four blocks from here. After that she had lost you out of sight, but suddenly you appeared again in a park a few streets from there. This could have been a coincidence, but now she spotted you a few steps in front of her, walking towards her, engrossed in your phone as if that could make her believe that you weren’t watching her. When you were only one step away from her, you even looked up from your phone and looked into her face. Your gaze lingered for a while and you actually turned your head a bit in order to keep your eyes on her longer as you passed by.
That was enough.
You had to be spying on her and she needed to find out who she had to punish for that. Abruptly, Chaeryeong changed directions and started following you. To her surprise, you didn’t seem to notice her, and she scoffed.
“Amateur.”
You really were bad at your job. She was sure that she wouldn’t have a problem getting an answer out of you.
When you walked past the next alley, Chaeryeong pounced on you and roughly pushed you into it in order to trap you against a wall. Her fingers dug into your collar and her face was dangerously close to yours.
“Who are you working for??”
She hissed angrily while shoving you even harder against the wall.
“W-what?”
You looked terrified, but Chaeryeong wouldn’t fall for your game. You weren’t the first one who tried to get out of her punishment by playing dumb.
“Quit the lies. I know that you are spying on me. I saw you staring at me.”
Chaeryeong chuckled arrogantly, remembering how easy you had made it for her to catch you red-handed.
“I-I just thought t-that you were p-pretty.”
Your answer caught her completely off guard and she automatically loosened her grip on you.
For the first time, Chaeryeong really looked at you; not through the eyes of a paranoid mafia leader, but really looked at you. You were gorgeous. Due to the closeness, she could study every inch of your face and there wasn’t one flaw. You were simply perfect. And if she really thought about it, you didn’t really fit the profile of a gangster. This could only mean one thing: you were telling the truth.
Ashamed, Chaeryeong stepped back and let go of your collar. You looked at her insecurely, but when you noticed that her anger had vanished, you quickly ran away. She looked after you like in trance. Your eyes had burnt into her mind and she felt a little bit dizzy from being so close to you. She had never seen someone more stunning in her life and she needed to see you again. Chaeryeong didn’t bother to chase after you though.
“I’ll find you.”
She mumbled under her breath while fidgeting with your wallet that she had pulled out of your pocket right before you had run away.
Yuna
Tumblr media
“And where’s that damn server?”
Yuna’s closest subordinate Chansung snarled angrily beside her, causing her to roll her eyes.
She loved all the power she had, but sometimes she wished that she had an equal partner, instead of only those dense puppets of hers with anger issues.
“HEY! You! Come over here!”
He yelled at a server who was standing across the room, making anger bubble inside of Yuna. She would make sure to apologize and punish this airhead as soon as they left this building. When the server came over though, they unexpectedly beat her to it.
“Excuse me, sir. I don’t know if you have some sort of mental defect, because otherwise, you would be able to see that you are not the only customer tonight. We are doing our best and I’m sorry if you had to wait but there is no need to be rude. So I’m glad to serve you when you have adjusted your tone.”
With those words, you turned on your heel and stormed off, leaving behind a speechless table. While Chansung started complaining loudly to the others after his shock had died down, Yuna gazed after you in amazement. She was absolutely stunned. You had to serve a table full of people whose shady background was visible from ten miles away, but you didn’t shy back from putting them in their place. That was the most attractive thing that she had ever witnessed in her life.
“...they are going to regret this. They are in for some special treatment of mine.”
The harsh word of Chansung ripped Yuna out of her trance and she looked at him hatefully.
“Please call over the server.”
She asked him with a quivering voice, laced with anger. His eyes widened fearfully, and he raised his arm immediately to catch your attention. It didn’t take long till you stood in front of their table again and Yuna averted her burning gaze from Chansung to flash you a soft smile that you reciprocated.
“Chansung, I believe you have something to say to our server.”
She said sweetly, causing him to look at her in confusion. Apparently, he still hadn’t gotten her point and she needed to give him a hint.
“Kneel.”
Yuna’s order was cold and left no doubt for interpretation. Nevertheless, Chansung stared at her in disbelief and started stuttering some excuses.
“Are you deaf? I said kneel! And apologize sincerely!”
Yuna snarled while slamming her hand on the table, causing everyone to straighten up, except for Chansung who immediately got on his knees.
“I-I’m really s-sorry for my b-behavior. I-I’ll make sure to compensate you.”
He stuttered and Yuna nodded satisfied.
When she looked at you, however, she could see that you seemed to be somewhat distraught. She must have scared you.
“Ok, guys. It’s time for us to leave.”
It hadn’t been her attention to scare you and Yuna knew that she had to remove herself from this situation if she wanted to have a chance with you. She wanted to get to know you better, but she couldn’t reach that if you were afraid of her. Therefore, she threw a bundle of money on the table before leaping to her feet and leaving the restaurant. There would be a better opportunity to introduce herself.
She would be back.

//
your point of view
you laughed, flipping off the cop cars that chased your car down as you sped through the road. dodging cars, maniacally giggling as adrenaline pulsated through your veins. your hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, speeding through the busy california traffic. good girl gone bad is what some may call it, but what you called it was purely living life to the fullest.
what you had done was quoted, “the funniest thing anyone could ever do”. out of all crimes you had committed throughout your years, this one by far was the worst one of all. you had thrown eggs at your annoying neighbours’ windows, spray painted over shops’ glass, drank underage and drove, but this one. oh boy.
you had not only vandalised a police officer’s car with sharpies, but you broke their walkman machine; which you still think was an accident - so not only were you going to get charged, you were about to be sentenced six months in jail. six months because of all the crimes you had committed. however, you were unbothered.
you were determined to escape them, only adding onto your thrill. but, your plans suddenly changed. the second you swerved left, a truck came at the fastest speed towards you. you tried to react as quickly as you could, even though it was completely pointless. the truck had already struck into your side of the car.
your car flipped, your head banged against the steering wheel, your vision went blurry. your heartbeat quickened, then weakened just as quickly. you shot yourself one last smirk before your eyes shut completely.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
you slowly opened your eyes, fluttering as you did so, then squinting almost immediately towards the brightest light you had ever encountered in your entire life. you sighed in relief, “thank god it was a dream.” you whispered to yourself, rubbing your eyes as you sat up slowly; groaning.
“are you sure about that?” a female voice called out soon after you spoke. your eyes widened, jumping back to the unknown old lady. you stammered, “i know what you’re thinking. ‘where am i’, am i correct?” you slowly nodded, your eyebrows heavily furrowed. “this my dear, is the afterlife.”
your mouth fell agape. “what..?”  she nodded in response, “d-did i really die?”
“unfortunately sweetheart.” she reached out a hand for you to grab, you shakily took your hand in hers as she rubbed your back gently.
“am i in heaven?” she was silent for a moment. your non-existent heartbeat wanted to fall to the pit of your stomach as to how quickly she fell quiet.
“i’m afraid not my dear.” she soothingly spoke to you.
“wh-what?” is all you could say. your tongue felt dry and numb, you wanted to collapse, but you couldn’t let yourself fall weak. i never hurt anyone, why do i deserve to go to hell? i’ve never let anyone get to harm. what have i done. thoughts consumed your whole body. “b-but i never hurt anyone..”
“i’m sorry, honey. fate decides these things. unfortunately you have to be a part of the underworld.” you wanted to fight back and argue, but she placed her hand over your forehead, causing your eyes to instantly close. “it’s time to go, my dear. bless you.” suddenly, you were falling. you screamed at the top of your lungs, tears glistening in the air as they floated then melted away.
you fell for a long time, before finally landing on a hard surface. you jumped from the harsh impact, crying out as you reached for your stomach, blood dripping from your mouth. you wiped your nose and mouth, your blood being the first thing that you see. you, being incredibly sensitive to the sight of blood, felt dizzy within seconds before you fainted.
-
your eyes opened for the second time, groaning out in pain. “well, well, well. look who’s awake.” you were startled by the deep voice who spoke up. your eyes darted towards the direction of the voice,
“stop, don’t scare her.” a short girl scolded the boy. your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“welcome to hell, y/n y/l/n.” the same deep voice guy spoke, smirking slightly.
“h-how do you know my name?”
“we know everything.” another man continued on,
“okay guys seriously stop, don’t scare her.” a brown haired girl huffed out. “sorry about them.” she apologised to you, giving the boys a glare.
“the big man is waiting for her, we should probably get going.” these strangers quietly spoke in front of you, as you weere not only freaked out, but were having a total anxiety attack in the middle of their small conversation. they all soon left the room, leaving you clueless and afraid.
soon enough, the doors opened roughly, slamming against the walls causing you to shriek from the impact. you squinted your eyes, trying to see the tall figure’s face. “good-morning princess.” you thought the other guy’s voice was deep? this man’s voice sent shivers down your spine, it was that deep. he slowly walked towards you, the sound of his shoes clinking against the floor was so loud. he turned his back to you, shutting the doors and locking it, the man and silence intimidating you.
you finally saw a glance at his face and, wow. ‘the big man’ as described came closer to you, crouching down and leaning his face towards you, making you flinch and turn away. “welcome to hell.” he smirked at you, his eyes gave off extremely evil intentions. what else did you expect, you were in hell. it’s not sunshine and rainbows, it’s eternal suffering and endless pain. “when someone is talking to you, you make eyecontact.” his rough tone made you flinch once more, his fingers aggressively bringing your chin up to meet his face.
you gulped, “s-sorry..” you whispered, your voice broke off in between the one word you spoke.
“anyways, like i was saying, welcome to hell. my territory.” goosebumps rose on your skin when he said, ‘my territory’. he couldn’t possibly be...
“are you..” a smirk slowly rose on his lips,
“the fallen angel?” he mocked the saying, “yes princess, i’m the devil, lucifer, whatever the fuck you want to call it, i don’t really care.” you furrowed your eyebrows to let that sink in.
first, you committed a crime, second, your car gets hit by a truck, third, you acutally died, fourth, you didn’t go to heaven, and lastly, the devil is sitting an inch away from you. what the fuck. you felt like fainting again. “woah..” you mumbled out, your eyes slightly rolling to the back of your head. his arm went to your side, forcing you to sit upwards.
“this is your third time fainting. can’t you just suck it up?” your hands reached to your head, your breath being shaky as tears stung your eyes.
“why am i here..” you spoke more to yourself than to him. he scoffed, rolling his eyes, rubbing his temples.
“you pathetic humans give me a headache.” he grumbled out, clenching his jaw. “fate, fate is why you’re here. believe me, if i wanted to drag you down here for no reason, i fucking would. no hesitation. but you’re too much of a baby for me to mess with. so i’d get bored too easily.” he stood up. “this is your room from now onwards. and don’t fucking complain about it either. you’re lucky that i didn’t throw you into a pit of dispair as soon as you got here.” he opened the doors, walking out, “enjoy your stay, forever.” his tone was more evil than you had ever heard. he slammed the doors shut, you could hear it lock from the outside.
why is this happening to me? why didn’t i just get thrown into an endless blackhole of suffering? isn’t the devil supposed to be this ugly, demonic looking creature? i’d rather die a second time than be here. the amount of questions you had was unbelievable. you fell back against the bed, why the fuck is there a bed in hell. another thought pondered your mind, covering your face with your hands as tears slowly slipped out.
“what is happening to me... please be a dream, please be a dream, please be a dream.” you hadn’t even realised that you had cried yourself to sleep.
A/N: i really hope you guys enjoyed part one! i’m so excited about this series, i have some really good ideas for this. also working on another series called ‘sweet and sour’ for a while now, let me know if you want me to upload those too! thank you for reading and leave any requests for some imagines if you like! part two is coming out soon! love you all <3

Loki hadn’t slept well in days. Between nightmares and dreams of you, his mind was a constant hub of activity. He didn’t need as much sleep as you mortals did, but after the whole ordeal with Thanos, the lack of rest was taking a toll on him. You were the first to notice, and started hovering even more than normal, something Loki was reluctant to admit he liked. In his final days on Asgard, he’d made himself a complete loner, going so far as to isolate himself from Frigga. It was nice to have some companionship again. That was as far as Loki ever let his mind wander, though, cutting himself off before he could deeper analyze the constant pull he felt toward you. Certainly there wasn’t even anything else to analyze anyway, he convinced himself. You were, after all, only human.
Before he could get lost in thought again, Loki refocused on Matt’s caramel blonde hair as he chased him between the barn and the house. The boy’s light curls were the only thing he’d inherited from his father and looked almost exactly like Ana otherwise. It made Loki wonder how he never guessed he was adopted, seeing as he looked nothing like either of his parents. This fresh air was really starting to get to him, he decided, because he was continuously going down these deep contemplative paths in his mind. It was a constant loop of his feelings for you, his true heritage, and how he was taking advantage of your family. Then again, it may have been the traumatic, near-death experiences and hours of torture that was doing this to him. That was the one thing he always liked to forget about.
“Tag, you’re it!” Loki cheered as he tapped Matt.
The challenge in this game, for Loki at least, was not to overtake Matt’s strides too quickly. It was the perfect balance of fake chasing and finding just the right moment to execute the tagging. Still, he was having almost as much fun as the child was.
“Now you’re it!” Matt declared a few minutes later when Loki let the boy catch up to him.
If there was anything to admire about the kid, it was his tireless energy. Loki was glad to have found someone to keep pace with him as far as that went. His mind, too, was kept plenty stimulated by late-night talks with you. Ever since you’d showed him the creek a few days ago, you seemed to talk into the wee hours of the morning. He’d never noticed before just how deep and intelligent mortals could be. It was quite the accomplishment that you were changing so many of his opinions in such a short time. Then he realized he was thinking of you yet again and cut off the train of thought before it could persist.
“Loki. Matt,” Ana called, waving at them from the front porch.
After scooping the boy up in his arms, Loki jogged over to where she was standing. Matt was happily transferred to his mother’s arms as he was carried into the kitchen for snack time. The God of Mischief looked out over your land, trying to give in to the feeling of contentment he was so close to achieving. If only he didn’t constantly have that voice in his head telling him he was a monster, he didn’t belong here. Maybe then he could be happy. A part of him wished he’d lost his memory for real.
“Oh, there you are,” you said, walking out of the house. “I’m heading into town if you want to come with me and see if anything jogs your memory.”
“Yes. I would like that very much.”
As the two of you made your way to the car, you repeatedly tossed and caught your keys in a nervous pattern. Loki held the door open for you as you got in and quickly hurried around to the other side. He stared at a weird strap by his seat as he sat down. You saw his look of befuddlement and couldn’t help but let out a little laugh.
“Do you not remember how to use a seatbelt?” you asked kindly as he nodded his head yes. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you came from an alien planet.”
Then you reached across his seat to buckle him in. Unfortunately, it was a bit farther than you realized, and you fell into Loki, hand splayed on his chest, his hands immediately reaching out to steady you. For a minute, the only sound in the vehicle was your pounding hearts. You cleared your throat in embarrassment as you finished your task. The air between you held a distinct awkwardness, and Loki realized that this was the first time you’d been truly alone since the creek. It sent a thrill down his spine, even as he tried to ignore his racing thoughts. Determined to look anywhere but in your direction, his eyes landed on Mama, scowling in the window. She’d made it clear that she wasn’t keen on him spending so much time with you and Matt. If he was any smarter, any braver, he would listen to her and just leave already.
“So,” you began, clearing your throat again and driving off, “how are you feeling today?”
“I am quite well, thank you. I do believe I am fully healed.”
“Promise to still take it easy, ok?”
“Alright.”
You lapsed into silence as you cruised along the road. Loki stared out the window, hoping to find some clarity in the scenery streaking by. You were a mortal, he should not have felt any sort of attachment to you. Then again, he hadn’t spent time with one since the Middle Ages. It had all been so dreadfully dull back then, but things had changed. You and your family were so exuberant, so captivating. But he was a god, and he should not concern himself with that. In fact, he should be on his way of this planet, which was maybe not so miserable, after all.
Before long, you reached town and pulled into a small parking lot of a building with a sign that said “24 Hour Convenience Store” and had many light-up neon signs, declaring they were open. You got out and Loki followed suit.
“Anything look familiar yet?” you asked. “I know you don’t live here, but maybe you passed through.”
Lying was his specialty, and it’s what he should have done now. He could hear himself in his head, his silver tongue weaving a tale about how things were coming back to him. Then he could pretend to contact someone and create an illusion, so you believed he had a happy reunion with his family. It would be prefect; he would leave and you wouldn’t worry about him. He truly wanted to believe it would perfect, anyway, but it wasn’t. Not if he never saw you again. There must be something special about you, he decided, and the Tesseract brought him here so he could figure it out. That was it. That had to be it.
“I am afraid not,” he replied. “Perhaps I came from the other way.”
“Yeah, maybe. Don’t worry, we’ll figure this out,” you comforted him with a hug, mistaking the reason for his sadness.
His body went stiff in your embrace. He hadn’t been hugged in centuries. Granted, that was in part his fault because he was afraid receiving hugs from his mother would hurt his carefully crafted image. Now here you were, holding his body against your warm frame. Once his mind cleared a bit, he awkwardly hugged you, too, and gave your back a few uncertain pats. He should not have been encouraging this behavior, but he was. Maybe if he caused some mischief he’d feel more like his old self. Or maybe he didn’t want to be that person anymore. It was all too much. He was exhausted by the incessant back and forth of his thoughts. He untangled himself from you and gestured to the store.
“After you,” he said.
You pushed open the glass doors and were greeted by the cashier as you walked in. Loki followed you to the back where the refrigerator section was, and he chivalrously held the milk that you’d come to pick up. You also grabbed some coffee grounds and then proceeded to checkout. After setting down the items on the counter, Loki turned over a chocolate bar in his hands, feeling like a child as you took it out of his hands and put it down with the other items. You grabbed a few other bars too, flashing a smile at Loki and keeping up a conversation with the clerk all the while.
“And who’s your new friend?” the cashier, whose name tag said Mr. Berkeley, asked you.
“This is Loki. He’s staying with me until... Well for a while,” you finished, not sure how much Loki felt comfortable revealing.
“Where’re you from, sonny?”
“Unfortunately, I cannot remember. It seems I had some kind of horrid accident,” Loki explained before you could fret anymore. He was very tired of being called son by people when he was a thousand years their senior, though. “I was very lucky to have found my way onto their farm.”
“Well, that’s quite a story. You should talk to the newspaper, get the word out.”
You shot an “I told you so” look at Loki to which he responded with one that said, “We’ll talk about this later.” Before either of you could say anything, though, the news came on the TV which Loki hadn’t realized was on.
“Do you have cable back?” you inquired as Loki began to panic. “It’s still out on the farm.”
“Nah. I got a satellite on the roof. Just got it set up again this morning.
You nodded along as the anchors began the next story. “New York is still reeling from damage, but the group of superheroes, going by the name of the Avengers, is leading clean-up efforts. The perpetrator has still not been caught-”
Loki discreetly turned the TV off with his powers before you could hear any more. He’d have to make sure the satellite took significant damage before leaving.
“Dang it. I just fixed that damned thing,” the cashier said.
“What was that all about?” you asked, completely bewildered by the sudden influx of information. “What happened in New York?”
“I guess you missed it in the paper last week,” Mr. Berkeley explained. “Some crazy group of aliens attacked, led by some power hungry god. Supposedly it was Thor’s brother, but they haven’t disclosed that information yet. Reckon they want to wait until he’s caught, avoid a panic.”
“Oh my god. That’s terrible! Gosh, you miss one paper,” you laughed, trying to keep the mood light.
A dark cloud passed over Loki’s features, even as Mr. Berkeley laughed along. Despite those SHIELD agents covering this up, word had still gotten out in some capacity. He had to be careful, or else he was going to get caught, and then you’d be in danger. He cursed under his breath. Your safety should be the last thing he was worrying about, and yet it was the first thought to come into his mind. A little kindness thrown his way should not make him into the mess he was. Of course, there were so many other things to like about you, too, and he kept finding more. He didn’t want to, he didn’t want any of this, but the Norns were punishing him for something. What would have happened, he wondered, if he’d listened to Thor and just held on that fateful day? If he hadn’t let go of the staff and fallen to what should have been his ultimate demise?
“Sonny, are you alright?” Mr. Berkeley asked as you laid a hand on his arm.
“Fine, but I think we should be going. I’ll meet you outside.”
He jerked away from your touch before you could do anything else and stalked outside. At least the satellite was hanging half off the roof with a huge dent in its side. He opened his door and got into the car as you unlocked it and raced over to him.
“Loki! Loki!” you called as you hurried over. “What was that? Are you ok?”
“Nothing! Nothing at all. Can’t you see I’m fine?” he snapped, struggling with the seatbelt. “I’m fine,” he whispered again.
“Hey, look at me,” you soothed, filled with compassion and placing a hand on his cheek. “Whatever it is, just let me know. I’m here for you. Talk to me.”
Loki’s eyes fluttered shut as he enjoyed the warmth from your palm. He let go of the seatbelt and took a few deep breaths, just like his mother had taught him. A part of him wanted to hang onto this anger, knowing that it might finally drive him to leave. He knew from experience, though, that acting in moments of blind rage would never lead to anything good.
“Is it New York? Did you remember something?” you gasped. “You had felt it was important in some way.”
“Perhaps,” he said after one last steadying breath. “It may have triggered something. But really, I am just a little tired. Maybe I am not as healed as I thought.”
He turned his head away and rested it against the window as your hand dejectedly fell into your lap. It’s not that he wanted to pull away, but he knew it’s what was safest for you.
“Ok then. We’ll go home.”
Loki whispered his thanks and succeeded in buckling up. He closed his eyes as the car started and a wave of emotions crashed over him. When you said home, he immediately pictured the farm. He knew he shouldn’t, but he did.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Loki holed himself up in his room for the rest of the day, working through the new information he’d learned. He pretended to be asleep when Ana came to bring him some dinner. Notably, you had not been the one taking care of him, and he cursed himself for pushing you away. He didn’t even bother trying to convince himself it was for the best; he knew it wasn’t. After so many years on his own, he finally had a friend, and he drove you away. Why he expected anything less from himself, he didn’t know.
At some point, he fell into a restless sleep. The food from last night was still on the bedside table, but it was now joined with the Snickers bar you’d bought for him yesterday. Someone had also come and tucked him in. Maybe he hadn’t lost his friend, after all. He opened the chocolate and took a bite, delighting in the sweet and nutty flavor. He polished it off, then waved a hand over the rest of the food, causing it to disappear. He wasn’t much in the mood for eating it, but didn’t want you to worry. He nearly ran into John as he walked into the hallway with the empty tray.
“There you are!” John exclaimed. “We were getting worried. Do you need the doctor?”
“No, I am quite alright, thank you. I think I just needed some good sleep,” Loki lied.
“Only if you’re sure. Take it easy today, though, ok?”
“That’s an order,” you said, appearing behind your brother-in-law and taking the tray from Loki. “Are you hungry? You missed breakfast, but I can heat up some leftovers from you.”
“I am fine,” Loki began, but noticed you frown. “Though, I suppose I could do with a small breakfast.”
“Great!” you said a little too brightly. “I’ll meet you down there.”
“Loki, can I talk to you for a minute?” John asked, pulling him aside. “What exactly happened yesterday? We heard about New York, but it seemed like there was something else bothering them.”
Loki felt a pang in his chest at the man’s words. As if the news weren’t upsetting enough, he’d been rude to you. He could only imagine how you would feel if you knew he was the one who had caused the mayhem. He wanted to pin the blame on someone else, but the blood was on his hands and he knew he had to take some responsibility. Doing that would help him change, which he recognized was absolutely necessary after all that had happened.
“I fear I may have upset them,” Loki started, shedding his old ways by telling the truth. “I was not feeling quite right, and I turned them away. Now they clearly blame themself for it. I deeply regret it, but I am not sure there is anything I can do.”
“Just talk to them. Apologize.”
Loki did his best not to look shocked, but the last time he said sorry was when his parents caught him playing tricks on Thor, and even then it was done begrudgingly. He wasn’t even sure he could make it sound sincere.
“Listen, I’ve got an idea,” John said. “We’re heading to the city today if you want to tag along. They’re off to get some gifts for Ana while I’ve got a few potential distributors to meet with. I’m sure they would be thrilled to have your company. Unless you’re not feeling well, of course.”
“No, I’m feeling fine. That is a great idea. You have my thanks, John.”
“No problem. Now, you’d better head down for breakfast before we both get in trouble,” he laughed.
With a final nod of gratitude, Loki took off down the stairs. His light footsteps went undetected as he neared the table, once again giving him the opportunity to eavesdrop on Mama’s suspicions.
“I know something else must’ve happened yesterday. You weren’t upset over nothing.”
“It’s just the New York thing,” you replied. “I’m fine. Really.”
“You tell me what that boy did right now or so help me I’ll kick him out of this house myself!”
“Mama! He didn’t do anything wrong. I get that what happened with James hurts, believe me I do, but you can’t let it run your life. You have to be able to trust others, to trust me,” you pleaded.
“How dare you drag your brother into this,” Mama shot back, her voice cracking. “How ’bout you trust my gut when it tells me that boy is trouble. I swear-”
She was cut off by Loki doubling back and thudding down the stairs, making his presence known. He’d heard more than enough of that conversation and wouldn’t allow you to feel any more hurt than you already were.
“Good morning,” he coldly said to Mama as he walked in, nostrils flaring slightly before he regained some composure. “I am not interrupting anything, am I.”
“Only our entire lives. Why don’t you go to the police, huh? And what about the missing person ad? Why haven’t we gotten that out yet? I don’t know what game your playing, but when I figure it out, believe me you’ll be sorry.”
“Fine! You want to know what I am doing here? I do not know. I have no idea why I ended up here or why I have stayed as long as I have. So when you ‘figure it out,’ by all means, please let me know.”
“Fine!” Mama shouted as she stormed off.
Loki was comforted by the fact that in his little outburst, he hadn’t technically told any lies to you. Half-truths? Most certainly, but no outright lies. Now that he was left alone with you, though, he felt embarrassed he lost his temper. He cleared his throat before speaking.
“I am sorry,” he said, not looking at you.
“Loki, you don’t have to say sorry for defending yourself. I understand.”
“That’s not what I’m apologizing for,” he confessed, now looking into your eyes. “Yesterday I was not feeling quite right, but I should not have snapped at you nor pushed you away like that. For that, you have my sincerest apologies.
“It’s really ok, it happens to everyone. I just care that you’re feeling alright.”
You stayed where you were standing, still hesitant to move toward Loki out of fear of being rejected again. So, it fell upon Loki to close the distance between you. He took your hand in his and placed a kiss to your knuckles as a light blush coated his cheeks.
“Thank you, darling. I assure you, I am feeling more than alright now.”
Whatever was about to happen between you next was cut off by the beeping of the microwave. You finished putting together his breakfast before sitting with him at the island. Though your relationship had been repaired, the conversation was still a bit choppy and awkward as you found your footing in the friendship again. John walked in just as you were cleaning up, whistling a happy tune.
“Ready to go whenever you guys are,” he said as he leaned against the doorframe.
“You’re coming?” you asked Loki, feeling worried for his health. “Are you sure you’re up for that? I can even stay behind with you if u want.”
“Please, do not change your plans on my account. I am in a great condition to go.”
You still seemed reluctant, but agreed he could come as long as he let you know the second he started feeling unwell. He conceded, and you went to fetch your jacket with the promise you’d be back in a minute. John gave Loki a thumbs up, to which he replied with a very self-assured smile, bolstered with confidence by your latest exchange.
A few minutes later you were all piling into the car, with Loki insisting you took the passenger seat and that he’d ride in the back. He was very pleased to get the seatbelt buckled on the first try, and the two of you shared a laugh at the little inside joke. His cheeks burned slightly, remembering how you’d fallen against him. Over the next few hours, you passed time by talking, laughing, and singing along to the radio. Just as you were entering the city, a troubling thought occurred to Loki; the people here had heard the news. Even if it hadn’t been officially announced that he was responsible for New York, those rumors about him had to have included a description. Sudden inspiration struck as John parked the car.
“You don’t happen to have a hair tie in here, do you?” he inquired.
“Yeah,” you replied, reaching into the glove compartment. “Ana keeps some in here for emergencies.”
Loki thanked you as you passed it to him and quickly put his hair up in a low bun. When he turned his attention back to you, you were staring at him, and he gave you a charming, lopsided grin that had you ducking your head in embarrassment.
“Ok,” John said with a clap of his hands once you were all on the sidewalk. “We’ll meet here in, say, about 5 hours.”
“Sounds like a plan,” you agreed, before waving goodbye.
Now it was just you and Loki again as you took off towards some stores to look at some baby gifts for Ana. It would still be half a year before the baby arrived, but you were always indecisive when it came to purchasing gifts. On the way, Loki ducked into a small shop and bought a pair of sunglasses, furthering his disguise. Between that, the new clothes, and the different hairstyle, he felt pretty confident in his ability to blend in.
After two-and-a-half hours of shopping, you’d found a bunch of things to maybe get, but hadn’t decided on anything. You would go back and look some more, but you were bone tired after all the walking around. The fact that you were so exhausted made you concerned for Loki’s condition, too, not entirely trusting that he would tell you if he was feeling ill, despite his promise to.
“How are you holding up?” you cautiously asked, afraid of a repeat of yesterday if you pushed too hard.
“I am doing quite well. You, however, seem to need to stop for a spell. Come, let us rest for a minute.”
He led you over to the food court of the mall you were at and pulled out a chair for you to sit in. He glanced around at the options and, though there was nothing there that appealed to him, there was certainly something that you liked. Besides, he didn’t need to eat, but your frail mortal body would need some sustenance sooner rather than later.
“Can I get something for you to eat?” he offered.
“How about we go see a movie instead?” you proposed, eyeing up the nearby theater.
“Only if you eat something.”
“Wow. Look at how the tables have turned,” you laughed. “Fine, but you have to also.”
After a minute’s debate, you and Loki agreed on a comedy starring your favorite actor. It wouldn’t have been Loki’d first pick, but after all the stress and angst of the last 24 hours, he figured he could use a laugh. You also convinced him to try some popcorn and Pepsi. He wasn’t much a fan of the soda, but the snack was tasty enough. Though, you did end up stealing half of his after finishing your own, which was fine with him. The best part of the whole experience, though, was getting to hear your laugh over and over again. Loki thought it might be the most beautiful sound he ever heard. Well, perhaps the best part was actually when your arms brushed each other as you both went to put them on the armrest at the same time. Loki filed away all these little mental notes to dwell on at a later date. Or, if he were lucky enough to rein in his hurricane of thoughts, never again.
“Well, that killed a lot of time,” you said after the movie ended and you were stretching out, aching from having sat for so long. “We’ve still got some left though. What do you want to do?”
“I believe there was a library over by where we parked. Let us go there,” he said, quickly thinking up a plan.
By the time you walked over, there was only about twenty minutes left for him to complete what he needed to do. He hurried over to where the computers were, and though he wasn’t particularly adept with modern Midgardian technology, the directions taped to the wall were clear enough that he was able to look up a book. He sent you off to get it, claiming that the title had just popped into his head and that he was certain he used to love it, and that he wanted to check on the status of a few others. You obliged, hoping that seeing the book would bring back some more of his supposedly lost memories.
Once you were gone Loki quickly searched for information on what he learned was being referred to as the Battle of New York. Thankfully, there was as little information about him circulating as Mr. Berkeley had said. Mostly, it was just speculation and stories from people claiming they’d been there. A great number of posts and photos had been deleted, too, and Loki assumed that they were ones with more valid claims and information. Knowing how SHIELD is, Loki was sure it was all removed almost immediately, so he felt relatively safe but decided he couldn’t be too careful.
“I found it!” you said, setting the book down as Loki closed out the tab he was on.
“Wonderful! Thank you,” he replied, flipping through it. “Most unfortunately, the other books were checked out.”
You leaned over shoulder to look at the book in his hands. “That’s too bad. What about this one, though? Triggering any memories?”
“Well, I think I enjoyed reading. Other than that, I am afraid not.”
“That’s ok. We’ll keep trying.”
Your hand slowly drifted over to rest on his, and he gave you a brilliant smile. It made him wish he’d found a friend in the universe far sooner than he had. Then maybe he wouldn’t have ended up in the hands of Thanos, committing atrocities against his family and strangers alike. Then again, if none of that happened, he never would have met you. He was torn over which he preferred.
“There you guys are,” John said, walking up to where you were. “Ready to head back whenever you are.”
After putting the book back on the shelf, you were ready to leave. Loki hung back with John as you exited.
“Your plan has worked miracles, my good man. You have my sincerest gratitude,” he said.
“No problem, dude,” John said, patting Loki on the back. “Glad to bring a happy couple back together again.”
Loki’s steps faltered. Between his companion’s smirk and teasing tone, Loki knew it was meant as a joke. Mainly, anyway. John really was very off the mark, though. He and you were merely friends, nothing more. And surely that was just barely so, seeing as you were a human. There was no way you meant anything else to Loki. Right?
It wasn’t until you were back on the road, and Loki couldn’t stop looking at the back of your head, that he even began to realize just how much trouble he was in.
One of your favorite moments or dialogs of Love Bites? Just curious. I think that fic is so underrated. Your only fic that Klaus falls for her when she's a vampire. I loved it and still do.
💙💙💙💙 thank you!!! It gives me such a thrill to get some love for those less popular fics that are nonetheless very close to my heart.
Love Bites is very much so the spiritual companion to my other vampire!Elena fic, Take Everything (‘Cause There’s Nothing Left to Take). I was fairly disappointed with how the show handled Elena’s transition to being a vampire, probably more so because it seemed so exciting and fresh coming off of the season 3 finale. I wanted to really dig into the most unpleasant aspects of it, especially psychologically, since tvd vampires are fairly fascinating in that they are monsters who retain their human hearts, but inevitably can never really access what it means to be human ever again. That’s so tragic! I can’t believe we never addressed this more directly on the tv show with the main character getting turned!
So, anyway, I couldn’t narrow it down, so here are the three parts I feel happiest with in that fic:
1) The Elena pov at the end of chapter 3– it’s such a stark contrast to Klaus, who is oblivious to what is going on, and is all hot and bothered, vs Elena, drowning in guilt but also this almost remote self-loathing and depression. Like, Klaus has seduction on his mind and Elena is so far removed from that line of thinking. She’s not even really capable of it. I’m really fond of this paragraph in particular:
After, she lies down with her face pressed against the cool damp grass and breathes in the smell of living, growing things. Like this, she can hear the shift and tumble of the earth below her ears, the sounds of worms and insects burrowing through the soil, the stretching of thirsty roots. Night birds cry and rustle in the trees, and in the distance, cars zip over the highway. The stars wheel above her, so many more visible to her eyes now than there ever were before. It's an entirely new, alien world. She is alien. Dead and yet not dead. Her body unnaturally frozen, so much so that when she finally does die, she will never decompose, never be welcomed back into the embrace of the earth. So much for ashes to ashes and dust to dust. She wonders if this means that she'll never see her mother and father again, after all.
I’m just— really fond of writing the “what would it be like to be a new vampire?” perspective paired with the infinite grief of her thought patterns here, and the first hints that she’s actually longing for a death which keeps slipping through her fingers.
2) The end of chapter 8 when Elena and Klaus spend the night in her room— this is really the peak of their intimacy, and there’s something almost painfully honest about the whole scene
3) The conversation at the school dance once Elena starts feeding:
Elena glances back up into his face. Something unguarded flickers there, and his heart surges, triumphant. He has her now.
“Come away with me,” he coaxes her, repeating an earlier offer, meaning it for something more than just come home with me.
That remoteness he had noted before falls over her face. “Don’t you understand that I can’t? Not ever.”
She tries to brush past him, but he won’t let her. Not yet. He crowds her back against the wall.
“What’s changed? What did Damon Salvatore say to you?”
“It’s not Damon, Klaus. It’s you.”
He doesn’t understand. Can’t understand as she shoulders past him, as though he hadn’t meant anything at all to her.
“Is that it, then? You’re just going to walk away?”
She glances at him over her shoulder, tells him, bewilderingly, “I mean to go where you can never follow.”
I love this sequence because Elena is speaking in a language Klaus can’t understand— at this point, because of her sire bond to Damon, she has to “be a vampire”— and that means hurting people, and being the thing she most reviles in her heart. So she resigns herself to it, all the while resolving to be as reckless and careless as possible so that she will get caught and staked for it. She’s chasing her own death. When she tells Klaus she means to go where he cannot follow, what she means is that she means to go into death— the one place he, a true immortal, can never go. And he completely misunderstands her, and does not sense exactly how disturbing this is.
