lesbian books you don’t see on booktok/bookgram
its MY DAY
here are just a list of pretty kitsch pretty gay lesbian novel that you will not see on booktok sadly or bookgram
LEE WINTER
Lee Winter is one of my favorite lesbian novel author. She doesn’t concentrate the story around the love story but more around the story itself which gives a lot to critic many stakes. Mostly Ice Queen, Age-Gap, Slow Burn, Enemies-to-lovers
The Brutal Truth
Tumblr media
If you want a Devil wears Prada kind of vibe gay, with a ice queen and a critic of men in power into corporation here it is.
The Red files
Tumblr media
Again, a ice queen, but playfull. LOVE THIS BOOK for the thriller kind of. Makes a critic of technologies, IA and government.
Breaking Character
Tumblr media
Breaking Character is a Hollywood star ice queen (YES AGAIN) trope. Love the tension, not my fav famous-lesbian-novel but it is GOOD.
G. Benson
Great writing, Who’d Have Thought is always one of my favorite lesbian novel that I read more than I can count and the new book Purposefully Accidental is kiss chief. Mostly Enemies-to-lovers, Slow Burn, Fun vibe, Medical.
Purposefully Accidental
Tumblr media
This is probably my fav famous people lesbian novel with two person meeting each other 25 years later after one gay panicked and shoved the other into the dirt. Old grudge, funny, enemies-to-lover kind of.
Who’d Have Thought
Tumblr media
This one is just a really funny situation with a fake-dating but really not the typical kind of. I love it.
Clare Ashton
Will mostly develop beautiful friends-to-lover story, always a great feeling, feels like fall reading her story.
The Goodmans
Tumblr media
This one being a best-friends to lovers and a REALLY GENIUS two stories in one and GAY ASF
Poppy Jenkins
Tumblr media
My favorite go back in your home town kind of a bit homophobic but whatever and see the crush of your life that you touched hands during the summer and gay died inside.
Milena Mckay
A recent author doing incredible books. She wrote before fanfiction and you can feel the fanfic vibe strongly wish I LOVE.
The Headmistress
Tumblr media
A school story with a strong backstory, world built. Its not a fantasy book but it can feels like one. Probably my favorite book from 2022 !!
A Whisper of Solace
Tumblr media
Emotionally still not ready to re-read this story but jesus this is ANGST ASF. It is really well played because she puts the Ice Queen as the character perspective you read through which never happens in a book from the beginning to the end.
Ask, tell
Tumblr media
I would never have thought myself to like this story but I guess it was worth it ? I really loved the trilogy cause yes, there is two more books after this one. A medical, army relationship, HOT
Those Who Wait
Tumblr media
Enjoy much much of this book, friends to lovers and if you read this one, read also the next one !!

📖 A Little Life
✍️ Hanya Yanagihara
5/5⭐️ 5/5😭
💭📝 THOUGHTS:
I am at a loss of words to describe how to feel about this book. Personally this was not just a book. This was a life story and a love letter. A complete bomb dropped at my feet. A world and perspective changer.
The impact this book had on my way to see life, and friendships, and family, and people — was tremendous.
It was not easy to read it. It was pretty rough, at times I had to put it down because it was taking a toll on me.
I dived head first into it without really knowing what I was getting myself into and I feel… transformed.
These characters were so smartly and amazingly written, I felt their pain, I felt their happiness, I felt their numbness, I felt their losses. I had no idea I could love someone I will never meet. This love was the type of love that’s possessive. I hope to never forget them. I hope to always remember how Jude — despite everything that he went through — found a way to live life until he didn’t; how Willem loved everybody unconditionally — specially Judy — and never stopped reaching out his hand and being kind and loving and understanding; how Malcolm was so attentive to the little details that he always made sure everybody around him was okay; how JB went through highs and lows but never gave up on trying to be better; how Harold was an extraordinary man that despite his faults and imperfections never stopped trying; and how Andy always protected Judy and never gave up on him.
This book is not just a book but an experience. I could talk forever about how I feel about it but I think it is personal. It might be different for someone else. It will touch you and your life and it will mean something to you.
Before you dive into it though, consider the triggers it comes with: self-harm; su*cide; SA; abuse; prost*tution; r*pe; trauma.
This is not something to read lightly! Please be careful with your mental health! ❤️

| Littérature: L'attrape-cœurs (1951) - J.D Salinger |
The Catcher in the Rye roman de J.D.
“If they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off.”

Love on the brain by Ali Hazelwood is the second book I had read by the author. I was keen to read this romcom, so I try to read this one in English and It was a success. And this is the reason for this review is writing in English. (Sorry for this, I need to practice)
What it is about? Bee Königswasser is a neuroscientist, one of the leading scientists in his field. Her life changes when NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project. In her new job, she meets up again with Levi, an old university acquaintance. He hates her. Bee is sure. Thus began an odd collaboration marked by fainting, weird things begin to occur, sex attraction, a cat and misunderstanding. A funny romcom with a little mystery.
I like Love on the brain more than The Love Hypothesis. I love de last one, but Bee and her obsession with Marie Curie is so interesting. Hazelwood offers us a story with many possibilities and more than one reading. Some of the topics are: mental health, academic world, personal fears, non-traditional family, the uncertain future or grieving process. The comedy is a chaotic destiny of love. The situations mixed the severity of this issues with great dialogues, irreverent situations —stories of Marie Curie, cats, amazing dresses, conferences, one room...
This novel is addictive, funny and the main characters are so sweet. I love the relationship. Bee and Levi have chemical. They past and present have a complicated story. The author resolved the plot with introspection, daringness and science. It’s a great combination. I want to read he next novel!

Le Dame di Grace Adieu e altre storie
Tumblr media
Scheda informativa
Titolo originale: The Ladies of Grace Adieu Autore: Susanna Clarke Editore: Fazi Editore Prima edizione: ottobre 2022 Pagine: 270 Prezzo: € 10,00
Trama

"In the future... if by some miracle you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again... fall in love with me."
Finally, I did it. I have read the most popular book that broke TikTok.
It ends with us.
With a few little spoilers, I am going to tell you that this is one of the most romantic and terrifying stories that I have read in the last year. And believe me, I read a lot. It keeps you captivated with each chapter and envelops you with tears, passion, anger, and relief.
I read it in less than two days because I also had to sleep. Although, I could have kept going and read it all in the same day. So…
It ends with us tells the story of a twenty-three-year-old girl, Lily Bloom, who was stuck between feelings for her long-lost first love and a new man she couldn’t get out of her mind. She enters a relationship with a gorgeous surgeon, despite the fact that she fears she will never see her first love again. Unfortunately, the twist happened when she least expected it. Her new love turns out to be a monster, and her first love is still waiting to have her back. Thus, Lily struggles to break the cycle of domestic violence in her life and help her soulmate fight his own demons. But nothing is so easy… especially when you're sucked back into the memories of the ideal first t love.
Don’t let me tell you more, although spoilers are inevitable.
PS: If you can’t find the book, I am here to share my PDF version with you.
Enjoy the reading!

It is not flesh and blood, but the heart which makes us fathers and sons. - „The Robbers” (Die Räuber) by Friedrich Schiller
Selenio (⚜️ 9.2 / 10) I have decided to pick something rather pivotal for my very first book review. (And also to preface this: have no fear, not all of them will be as verbose as this one…) However, I think that one of Schiller’s most famous works, “The Robbers” might not be as well-known and established in the non-german-speaking world as it is here. In Austrian, Swiss, or German schools…

title: Kafka on the Shore
author: Haruki Murakami
genres: fiction, fantasy
my grade: 5/10
synopsis: Kafka on the Shore is powered by two remarkable characters: a teenage boy, Kafka Tamura, who runs away from home either to escape a gruesome oedipal prophecy or to search for his long-missing mother and sister; and an aging simpleton called Nakata, who never recovered from a wartime affliction and now is drawn toward Kafka for reasons that, like the most basic activities of daily life, he cannot fathom.
As their paths converge, and the reasons for that convergence become clear, Haruki Murakami enfolds readers in a world where cats talk, fish fall from the sky, and spirits slip out of their bodies to make love or commit murder. Kafka on the Shore displays one of the world’s great storytellers at the peak of his powers.
My review under the cut!
I know it is a fantasy book, but, at a point, for me, it looked like all the characters were constantly high on something, or like the author was on drugs when he wrote it. At a point, nothing was make any sense, not even in a good way. Too many loose ends, irrational beyond what I expected, and some topics didn't please me (like Kafka's prophecy that he would sleep with his lost sister and mother????)
my review: yeah, not for me. I read 590/969 pages, until chapter 30, and then decided to stop.
The first chapters were very cool and interesting, the fantasy got me and I liked the scenarios very much (I don't think I had ever read a story set on Japan). After every page, I was excited to know what was going to happen next and I wondered how the main characters would meet and how their lives would correlate. Kafka Tamura sometimes shows himself as a very grown up person, but he is just a teenager boy, so I understood why he describes women the way he does. Nakata is a nice old man, it was very unfortunate what he had to go through.
However, I started to get bored around page 400. I wanted to give it a chance, but I couldn't anymore.
Anyway, I started the book because I've heard good things about the author, and this title called my attention, but, unfortunately, I won't know how it ends.

it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...

📖 The Other Miss Bridgerton (Rokesby #3)
✍️ Julia Quinn
5/5 ⭐️
4/5 🌶
💭📝 REVIEW:
I keep saying that Julia Quinn is one of my favorite authors and this book just proves my point even further.
In this book we get to know Andrew’s story, third in line of the Rokesby brothers. We got to meet him in book one, and we got a sense of his fun and playful personality and it didn’t get lost in book 3 for certain.
We also get to meet a different side of the Bridgerton family, specifically Poppy Bridgerton — a curious and adventurous mind.
It is known throughout these series that the Rokesbys and the Bridgertons are very familiar with each other, and it was rather interesting to see that in such large families sometimes someone gets lost in the crowd.
Curiosity led Poppy into Captain Andrew’s ship — not by choice — where a lot of secrets sailed within and where she found herself trapped in an unknown adventure to Portugal.
In a time where the myth that a woman on board was a bad omen, she was kept in the captain’s cabin for all sailor’s good sake. But when one has no one to talk but the captain himself and a 13-year-old boy, a lot can happen in a fortnight.
It was such a lovely book to read. I think Andrew’s personality and also Poppy’s was what made this such a great book. I lost count of the time I had to stop reading just to let myself laugh my ass off. They are feisty, and flirty, and awkward. But also caring, and understanding. They were truly a match made in heaven and this was a wonder to experience while reading!
On a side note, I’m from Portugal and I’m currently living in the US, and this book having its background in my homeland made me so happy as well? I might be a little biased but it filled me with joy nevertheless!
As always I think you should give these series a try if you’re into rom-com and period romances!

25 Laws of power for women
Conceal your goals especially the ones that are appealing. Losing weight, reinventing yourself, marrying wealthy. Instead talk about your altruistic goals - to help children, invest in education, this will chase insecure people with vile intentions.
Do not give anyone your source of power: Was is a book that changed your life? a mentor? a movie? Never give up your secret to success. If forced to do say allude to God, the universe, the a random phenomenon
Use the patriarchy to your favor; we live in a world that is, only associate with men who have power, use that power for good.
Never appear too perfect but be selectively vulnerable when needed. Only share something that you will be comfortable saying. You might say “I forget my keys all the time,” “I don’t know how to perfectly park a car “. But never disclose something you are not comfortable with just because you are afraid of being perfect.
Maintain distance in relationships. Friends are the best and you need them. But if you feel that they are becoming too dependent, see them at your own will. But also the reverse could be the case. Your friend may keep a distance, and that is the way of life. You have got to move on from it.
Develop your own style that makes you unique, beautiful, and elegant. Avoid trying to fit in the crowd of people who claim to care less about their style yet have too many opinions about other women’s style
Avoid male friends at all cost, you will have male colleagues, male bosses, male acquaintances, business partners. Keep it that way. You do not want a Truman Capote divulging your secrets to the world. Do not keep a man who does not fit your standard.
You do not have to win at every game. Pick and choose what is best for you and leave room for others. And step down if you have attained that level of success, do not let the society do it for you.
Trust people but remember that we are all humans. So trust with discretion!
Confuse people with kindness; people are not always comfortable with beautiful and intelligent women. That power is too intimidating so confuse them by being genuinely generous, curious, kind, and passionate.
Keep your strong opinions to yourself.. if you support a movement, a way of life, do so silently.
We all have dirty laundry, wash them privately, don’t expose yourself. Remain silent when people try to attack you or shame you. Whatever is not confirmed is not true. You are the only one who knows all the truth about you.
Don’t attract pity or praise: People who pity you do not help you, in fact they might think that you are weak and could mock you at their annual gossipping meeting. And if you are doing things for the sake of praise you are wasting your time.
Choose yourself all the time; never put any one’s feelings above yours.
Trust your own intuition if you feel someone is being malicious towards you, giving you back handed compliments then you should let them go
Never speak bad of another woman. Do not lazy around gossipping. Keep your hands clean and your conscience clear.
Avoid women with low self esteem they will bring you down. For some reason they do not like seeing other women who are doing better than them
Be careful who you seek validation from. Not everyone needs to be pleased. If they are in no way capable of contributing to your life in the ways you prefer, then don’t ask them for their opinions or please them.
Do not compete with other women, if you do you are only putting them on a pedestal. You are making the the standard by which you measure your progress. If you do compete, begin digging your grave.
Do not give unsolicited advice, do not share the inner workings of your mind, If your mouth is very charitable you better start journaling.
Be well-rounded and interesting. It attracts people. It also keeps you busy because you are continually improving and learning. An idle mind is an easily subdued one.
Avoid women who want to live vicariously through you; they want to know who you know, shop where you shop, befriend who you befriend, wear what you wear.
Pay attention to the source of your discomfort; get rid of them. You tell them your dreams and they remind you of all your hindrances. They ask why are you dressed so fancy as though fancy isn’t subjective. They undermine you interests and goals. They will also be quick to bring you down because they are afraid of your potential.
Do not fear power or please power. When we see powerful people we try to hard to befriend them, to be close to them but you need to be comfortable without them. Don’t push yourself in the name of friendship, do not try too hard to be in their inner circle. Your independence of mind is the most important. Instead become a powerful woman, aloof to the presence of power but aware of its importance. Be an ingenious and intelligent and use your creativity to uplift yourself. When you do so it will be hard to ignore you. Even the powerful will become an ally.
Enjoy moments of solitude. Use that time to develop yourself, improve your body, learn new skills, create with your mind, read widely, become more elegant, then launch yourself.
Remember the most powerful women are the most intelligent. Inspired by Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power. Use at your discretion.

Book Review: Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop
Title: Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop Author: Hwang Bo-Reum Rating: 5/5 ⭐
Tumblr media
I have never watched any doramas before, but I'm 100% sure this book could easily be one. Well, needless to say, any book with library or bookshop on the title has my immediate attention. Yeongju needed to open her own bookshop so bad that she did it despite her lack of entrepreneurial experience. For the first few months, all she can do is cry, and she has no idea how to properly manage a bookshop. Reading has been her lifetime passion, but reading books and selling them are two completely different things, so she starts a long learning journey. The first thing is to hire a barista for the coffee machine, and the second is to start thinking about ways to spark the interest of the neighborhood in her bookshop. The rest, well you have to read it. This book is absolutely amazing, it's one of those with no specific plots or major events, but it fills your heart with warmth and joy every time you turn a page, it's like you're part of the little community that surrounds the bookshop. Warning: a huge urge to open your own independent bookshop might occur.
