So one of the reasons I like reading physical books instead of ebook is that I like seeing how much I've read. And because it's inconvenient to keep around stacks of read books just for an occasional satisfying glance, years ago I started keeping my reading logs like this - each stripe represents the thickness (and spine colour) of a book I've read since Christmas. I'm almost at knee-height now.

Books - I luv them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, so the Parade Mag released their 125 Best Romance Books of All Time list, and I was ecstatic to see so many books that I have and do love on the list.
From books I read and re-read over and over as a teen such as Pride and Prejudice. As well as some of my all-time favorite books Love in the Time of Cholera, Outlander, and Wuthering Heights.
The list would not have been complete without some of the books that I have loved more recently such as Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor & Park, Casey McQuiston's Red White and Royal Blue, and Alexis Hall’s Boyfriend Material.
It of course includes so many others I have yet to mention of the 50-something that I have read off the list such as John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, and so many others that were already on my To-Read list, and many more that I have now added. This list is truly the best gift to all readers - so go enjoy it!

I've never felt more suffocated yet comforted than when reading To Be Taught, If Fortunate. There is no point to it than sharing the genuine wonder for knowledge. There are no character arcs, no plot points, but Chambers conveys the wonder and delight of life and the sheer horror of it with so much grace.
Its a weird little book. I've read something similar by Andy Weir and absolutely hated it for being a science textbook. But when Becky Chambers taught me of the wonders of science, I thought I was fortunate to witness this; her sharing her effervescent wonder with life, water, science and how everything fit together. I'm not someone who is held spellbound by science but she held me by her wonder and when someone shares joy, how can you refuse it?

Why is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle so amazing?
Because is was published in 1962 and one of the characters is a female scientist with a PhD who supports her family as a single mother.
Because it is written in 1962 and has quotes like "stay angry little Meg" and very powerful female characters are empowering a young girl to express her anger with the world.
Because it was written in 1962 and women could not buy houses or get paid an equal wage (equal pay act is 1963) or get a credit card. When it was the decade women going to college final because the societal norm and even then they were bared from higher paying jobs and higher up positions in companies.
A Wrinkle in Time is a feminist novel, one off the first major YA Sci Fi novels centered around a female character that saves herself. It's just amazing, I love it, I could talk about it for hours.
