aragorn headcanons:

sketches in his free time. likes to draw plants he’s come across, writes down descriptions for later. makes maps and draws animals.

cannot draw people, for the life of him.

except for arwen. draws her all the time.

used to very bland food, cooking on the road. prefers unseasoned meat, likes to taste the “natural flavor.”

dislikes nutmeg. cinnamon feind

favorite cookie is oatmeal raisin

has very grimy hands all the time. it’s never ending. even after he washes them, it’s like immediate dirt and grease

current theories are: his sword is just really dirty, his clothes are dirty so when he touches them it makes them dirty, or legolas’s favorite- humans naturally produce grime so the dirt is a natural protective layer above the skin.

in actuality it’s because he knows it grosses (some) elves out and likes to be a menace. specifically targets erestor. legolas will also go great lengths to make sure aragorns hands star far, far away from his hair

knows some card tricks. has great slight of hand specially because of these card tricks. didn’t really do anything with this until pippin discovered this fact and aragorn was forced (politely asked) to preform for the hobbits.

this is, in spite of the fact, that they all know a literal WIZARD (gandalf was salty at abt this “false magic”) and also a ring that turns ppl invisible??

sews. really well, actually. enjoys it but rarely showcases this talent- mostly patches and mends garments weathered by his lifestyle. would one day love to sew a dress for arwen but doesn’t know where to start

masterful at subtly deflecting compliments.

very generous with compliments of his own, but are again, subtle.

years of living with elves has made him quite reserved. yet, he is doing his best to unlearn this behavior. such examples include:

telling arwen he loves her. telling elrond he loves him. telling frodo he loves him. really just telling everyone he loves them. he’s even worse when he’s drunk- he rarely gets even tipsy, but under the influence of a fine wine (or mead, he prefers mead or ciders) he will get very emotional.

hugs!! aragorn loves to give hugs. he really tries his best but they’re a bit awkward at times. he’s getting better.

breaking away from the elven raw-diet and dine seasonings with grilled meat and more lately grilled everything.

he will try his best to cook for himself at any opportunity. it was a jarring shift going from being served gourmet eleven dinners to raw venison

love language is acts of service. he likes to cook for his friends, though he’s not as good as it as sam, who cooked a majority of fellowship meals, so he mainly hunts. then legolas offered his hand and gimli felt challenged by that and at this point boromir just felt excluded-

he just wants to do nice things for the people he cares abt.

arwen has not, for a good chunk of her life, tied her own shoes, peeled her own oranges, made her own tea, or woken up without breakfast being made or ready for her.

just. guys. he really really loves arwen. he will do anything for her and it’s almost obnoxious.

it IS obnoxious if you ask legolas. but this is why aragorn does not go to legolas for romantic advice. (legolas once told aragorn that the next time he ties her shoes he should tie them together so that when she falls he will catch her. this is why arwen stoped flats with ties and opted for anything she could slip on instead.)

will never cheat at any sort of game. he will get extremely upset if you accuse him of such.

he does not believe that counting cards qualifies as cheating. boromir strongly disagrees. he mainly sticks to chess, now

is not allowed to play chess with erestor, (sore loser and prone to trash talk) elrond (matches take to long due to overthinking on both ends and this annoys arwen to no end) and either of the twins (they cheat by working as a team)

would 100% believe in bigfoot.

Aragorn is in love with a female human reader

So, since i wrote some headcanons about Legolas being in love with a female elf, I thought about writing some for the other members of the fellowship too. If you'd like to read diffenrent character constellations than mine, (characters, races, franchise), feel free to ask, I'd be really happy about it.

Headcanons - Lord of the rings

summary: Aragorn is in love with a female human reader

time setting: shortly after Aragorn's coronation

(added: character art, what they would say to them, or about them)

Sunrise Conversations: In the early mornings, when the kingdom is still asleep, Aragorn and you would often sit on the walls of Minas Tirith, watching the sunrise and sharing quiet conversations about your hopes and dreams for the future.

Handwritten Letters: Despite your close proximity, Aragorn takes pleasure in sending handwritten letters to you, sealed with the royal seal of Gondor. He enjoys the anticipation of your response, no matter if its by letter of in person. (He writes you every day, if he ever has to leave you for some days or other way around)

A Willing Listener: Aragorn is an attentive listener, hanging on to your every word, showing that your thoughts and feelings matter deeply to him.

Dances in the Courtyard: Occasionally, when the court is not in session, Aragorn would occasionaly sweep you into an impromptu dance in the castle's courtyard, your laughter echoing through the stone walls.

Endless Respect: Aragorn treats you with unwavering respect, valuing your opinions and decisions as equal to his own.

Shared Journeys: You embark on long rides through the countryside, exploring the lands of Gondor together, taking solace in the beauty of the kingdom and the comfort of your presence. (You'd often talk to your people, especially after thw war and try to listen and help them as best as possible, people love to see you together).

"My love, every day I am reminded of the incredible strength and grace you bring to our kingdom, and to my heart."

Regal Courtesy: As King of Gondor, he still maintains the same level of courtesy and humility with you as he would with any subject.

Shared Responsibilities: While he bears the weight of the kingdom's responsibilities, he makes sure to include you in important decisions and trusts your judgment.

"She possesses a heart as courageous as any warrior I've known, and her wisdom has guided us through many trials. Gondor is fortunate to have such a steadfast ally by its side."

Unexpected Surprises: He enjoys surprising you with small, thoughtful gifts or spontaneous adventures, keeping the spark of romance alive.

His Crown and Her Crown: Aragorn places a small, delicate crown made of wildflowers on your head during your private moments together, (also before an offical celebration etc.), a symbol of your shared sovereignty.

Heartfelt Vows: You would exchange heartfelt vows of eternal love and commitment, sealed with a kiss under the ancient White Tree of Gondor. (When you look at each other, there's a shared understanding that you are bound together for eternity, your love enduring through everything.) - Together, you create cherished traditions, marking significant moments in your relationship with meaning and love.

𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: You’ve been in many battles, fights and wars. And your s/o is seeing your scars for the first time.

𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐧

・It was late evening, both of you had had your supper, but even after you had finished eating, you were still sitting at the oak table

・Unwinding, you were both relaxing after a big day

・Aragorn was smoking pipeweed, and you were happy with your wine

・The snow was falling outside and you were both rugged up

・The conversation from the day had found its way into your chambers

・Although there was no threat of war, it was still spoken about since Aragorn was the ruler

・He was no stranger to seeing the horrors of war, it was drastically different when he saw the effects of it on your body

・He was devastated.

・His gruff voice asked about what you had been through

・Aragorn filling both your cups in celebration of surviving

・Though neither of you were drunk, the affect of the drink was starting to make you both loosen up

“Do you regret them?” Aragorn said suddenly, breaking the impregnated silence

“I don’t.” You said after a while, insinuating that you didn’t see your scars as a negative thing

It was quiet for a while. But not the type of silence that was awkward. Nothing with Aragorn felt awkward, nothing.

After taking another sip from your cup, you asked him the same, “Do you?”

“For some...I do.”

・He said it without looking in your eyes

・And he took a long puff of his pipe. After blowing the smoke from his mouth, he reached across the table and took ahold of your hand

“I just want you to know. I love you.”

𝐄𝐨𝐰𝐲𝐧

・She hadn’t been in many battles herself, so seeing your scars took her breath away

・Many long slices that had healed badly, some healed well

・All depending on how many healers had been there during the fights

・Eowyn’s long hair travelled down her back in a braid that you had done earlier

・Making it so her hair didn’t fall in her face as she trained

“That looks like it hurt,” she said absentmindedly, reaching out to stroke the reddish coloured scar.

Without meaning to, you laughed and nodded enthusiastically. “It bloody did.”

・Her heart broke for you

・But she laughed lightly at your response

・You were both standing, staring out the window which overlooked the village below

・Her hand snaked down to yours and squeezed

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, entwining her fingers, still looking out the window

“Thank you, but I did what I had to do. And this is what came of it.”

・She turned to you then, and leant her forehead against yours

“I won’t let you get hurt again.”

“And I you.”

𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐫

・Sighed when he saw them, hanging his head in defeat. “I wish you never had to go through that.”

You smiled at him, “No other choice, my lord.”

・Although you meant the name as a joke, a teasing nickname, he took it in a different way -

・Like he could have somehow stopped this from happening. That he had the power to stop it.

・He was very upset

・And went to sit by himself for a bit

・You didn’t go after him; sometimes people just need time to process their feelings. In other words - to feel their emotions...and work through them

・When he came back, Boromir got on both of his knees and held your hand against his face.

・Shocked, you let him lead the situation

“Y/n, forgive me. Please forgive me.”

・Your shock didn’t waver, it didn’t falter - only grew

“Boromir, why would you ask for my forgiveness?” You knelt as well, so you were on the same level.

“Because your family has lived in my kingdom for so long. Every decision my forefathers have made led you to endure this. They are to blame, and therefore, I am to blame.”

・Tears welled in both of your eyes and he stroked his thumb against your cheek

“I will not forgive you. Because there is no need for you to apologise. I know you will be a just ruler, but I will not have you apologise for my decisions.”

・Kneeling, he took you in his arms and hugged you fiercely. His hand firmly holding your head to his chest.

𝐀𝐫𝐰𝐞𝐧

・Her gentle voice soothes you, it was the end of another battle and she was healing your wounds

・As your partner, she tended to you without breaks. You had your own rooms that she took you to, getting help from the other’s to move you to the bed

・She was with you day and night

・So she saw your scars when you were unconscious and her heart broke from what she saw

・Arwen never wanted you to go through the hateful thing that was war. And seeing the results of that on your skin made her want to kill every person who did that to you

・When you finally awoke, she was asleep next to you

・But the moment you stirred, she jumped up and hurried to your side

“My love, how do you feel?”

“...sore,” you said in a croaky mumble

・She smiled, going to get you some salve and drink that would mull the pain

・When you realised you were topless, you deflated

・And when she came back, you stared at her, trying to see if anything had changed in her since seeing your scars

・When you were about to talk, she beat you to it

“Yes, I’ve seen them. And I’m sorry you went through that.”

・You were glad she spoke, because you still didn’t have the strength to explain

・It was like Arwen could sense it; or maybe she just understood beings better than most. Because she didn’t push for it, she didn’t ask you too many questions.

“I can do my best to fade them as well, if you wish.”

・It took you a while to decide, but at the end of it. You decided against it.

“They’re apart of my story.”

・And again, she understood.

𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐫 (this is where talks of being a prisoner of war is)

・You were both up late talking about life and the conversation went to war and what you had both experienced

・A deep conversation that you both didn’t intend on having

・It was late night, with the stars above you, a fire in front of you and two pales of ale next to you

・Faramir didn’t mean for the conversation to go to a darker place

・But you were in the beginnings of your courtship and you wanted to learn more about each other

・It wasn’t until you took off your large jacket and left on your undershirt that he noticed the raised slices on your skin

・He took a sharp intake of breath, seeing your arms alone...it broke his heart to see just how hard you had fought for what you believe in

・Faramir didn’t know how to bring it up, but you knew what he was talking about

・You had been a prisoner of war, and had been tortured for information...but still held strong. They got nothing out of you but a bunch of spitting and swears

・It was Aragorn who had found you, and both you and Faramir were eternally grateful

・But Faramir hadn’t seen how bad the orcs had hurt you

・Their brutality was obvious and it took everything in Faramir not to scream out in agony and hatred

・You, who he loved so much. Who made him feel whole, who made him feel like the world made sense, who gave him a purpose - a will to live

・The fact that someone had hurt you so badly... he wished he could return the favour a hundred times over

so let’s say that he’s older and slightly more experienced than you

he absolutely takes you under his wing, but quickly learns not to underestimate you

he isn’t patronizing, ever, just sometimes protective

as much as you can learn a lot from him, he can also learn from your ways and your own approach to things

the two of you have a lot of trust in each other, and you know a lot about each other - when you have painfully long distances to hike, or camp somewhere overnight, talking to each other is almost inevitable

you’ve never told him that, but you really enjoy his quiet singing while he’s doing something, especially when he sings in Elvish

if you don’t know elvish already, he teaches you

and then over time, when you get more fluent, the two of you absolutely love to converse in elvish around others who can’t understand you, like it’s your little secret

he’s very observant and always knows if something is off, if you’re injured or exhausted, and he insists on treating you and helping you

you’re one of the very very few people he trusts enough to let them heal him when he gets injured on a rare occasion

sparring and practicing all kinds of combat together

you push each other to new, higher levels of skills

when you make a stop in some town to eat a proper meal, he insists on covering the bill

if someone is bothering you, you can take care of it, but if the person is repeatedly pushy and dismisses your rejections, Aragorn steps in, no problem

you feel at home in Rivendell as much as he does

during battles, both of you saved one another more times than you can count

Do you have any headcanons about Aragorn? Just in general, like random things about him, or how he would fit in in a modern universe. :)

I’ll do some general Relationship HCs for him :)

He’s one of the softest men you’ll ever meet, and incredibly traditional, especially when it comes to courting you.

Aragorn will first go to your father first to ask for permission to court you, and once he does, he will pursue you as gently as if trying to pet a baby fawn.

He’ll bring you flowers every day, and put them in your hair, kissing the strands and twirling them slowly around his fingers.

Every time he goes on a journey, he’ll return with some trinkets and little gifts he finds around that he thinks you might like or interest you.

Loves to spend nights with you outside, in the field, looking up at the Moon, you leaning into his side as he tells you stories about his adventures, about the Dunedain, about his family, his friends, and after awhile, when he’s feeling at ease with you, he’ll even sing little songs for you.

The Beren and Luthien song is his favourite, and by the time you’re fully committed one to another, he knows he loves you endlessly, just as Beren loved Luthien, and died to show all his feelings for her.

He doesn’t speak a lot, but when he does, he comes up with things to make you laugh - He’s absolutely in love with your laugh and smile, he’d do anything in his power to see you smiling every day.

He thinks your eyes are Heavenly, because every time he looks into them, he sees the whole world, and the way he can see the happiness, bashfulness, the love sparkling in them, he’s absolutely mesmerised.

Aragorn always gets a little shy whenever he gets emotional and overwhelmed by the love he harbours for you, so he has to look away for a few seconds because you are just so beautiful, he can’t take it.

A hobby of his is going horse-riding with you through the forests of the elves - They’re just so beautiful, especially that special spot that he only takes you because you’re his special someone and wants you to know every bit of his heart.

Being the short one in a relationship with Aragorn would include:

You met on one of Aragorn's many journeys across Middle-earth. He was resting for the night at your family's tavern when he asked you to sit and drink with him.

He told you stories about the world and you fell for him right then and there.

Everything about him intrigues you.

Except for the fact that he literally towers over you.

This man, as noble as he is, can't stop himself from laughing every time you have to stand on a chair to get something from a high shelf.

"Are you sure you don't want me to get it for you, love?"

"NO! I CAN DO IT MYSELF! I'M SHORT NOT HELPLESS!"

Still grabs things for you or lifts you up if you need to get something.

Aragorn ✨LOVES✨ kissing the top of your head. All he has to do is lean down and BOOM head kiss.

No trouble sweeping you off your feet; he could carry you for days cuz ya know… you smol.

You love that he’s protective of you but have to remind him every once in a while that you can take care of yourself in the form of kicking ass and taking names.

Gets down on one knee to propose and he’s practically looking you straight in the eye (jk)

Comfort headcanons for @tolkien-fantasy because good lord it's cold

How Aragorn cares for you when you're cold:

If there's something in your room keeping you cold he will find a way to fix it. Broken window, poor insulation, man is ON. IT. It is fixed within the day.

If you're huddled in bed trying to stay warm he'll crawl in with you and wrap himself around you to keep you warm. If your hands are cold he definitely holds them in his large ones or places them against his chest as he gives you the biggest bear hug.

He has So Many Clothes. Cold head? Hat. Cold hands? Gloves. Cold feet? Socks. (Do not accept the socks, they're grody. It's a nice gesture but...). Cold body? Cloak. Aragorn will give you anything and everything he owns to keep you warm.

He will make so much warm food like soup and bread and drinks like tea or cider that warm you up from the inside

How Boromir cares for you when you're cold:

If he won't crush you he is laying on top of you. If he will crush you he is pressed as close to your side as he can get. Mans adores physical contact.

He is practically swaddling you, he's so desperate to keep you warm. You so much as exhale in a chilled way and he is wrapping your legs in another blanket.

Look he remembers the mountain pass and it was Not Pleasant and does not want you going through anything similar.

Boromir might not be as handy as Aragon but he will do his best. He also knows when to admit defeat and will call Aragorn to come fix the problem if he can't.

He radiates body heat so really you just have to sit or lay next to him and he's like a damn heater.

Imagine the fellowship showing each other pictures and paintings of themselves as children

Everyone cooes over Gimli with the tiniest little beard and mini axe, the Hobbits all sleeping in a little pile of curls and tails, Aragorn in formal elven clothing but his hair is still as messy cause they couldn’t style it even if they tried, Boromir holding a baby Faramir cause he refused to part with him after he was born
