Fic: The Restless Botanist 5 + 6/10, M, Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond/Lindir
Chapter 5: The Infamous Notebook (links go to AO3)
Elrond wishes this house to be one for peace and learning. Excellent idea, but these are times of war, and so we have nothing but warriors here. Even the librarian carries bow and arrows. I am as useful as a barber in Moria.
Chapter 6: The Insignificant Difference (links go to AO3)
Had Lindir even as much as touched him with one finger, the Lord of Imladris would have either spontaneously combusted or melted into a puddle.
Notes:
When I began writing fanfic - it was a long time ago, dinosaurs were still roaming the streets - well, about twenty years ago it was, when I began writing "Erestor's Diary: The Most Boring Life of Master Erestor of Rivendell", which turned out to be the first part of ACOTER: THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE ELVEN REALMS. That was when Erestor got his crows and, eventually, Glorfindel (and Thranduil was Hobbit-Thranduil before the Hobbit, heh!)It was posted on a long defunct platform called Diary-X. I also had a diary for Elrond. Unfortunately, that content got lost... anyway, with this chapter I returned to the very beginning: Master Erestor's diary. It was like having tea with an old friend. A rather snarky one! So this chapter is dedicated to all the lovely people I have met back then, the regulars of "Elf on a Shelf"... the inimitable Magic Rat, Miss Zimraphel (the best Lindir ever), Sildil, the twins... they all put the "fun" in fandom. :)

Text
It is blazing hot this summer day - so hot that even some elves were hesitant to be without shade for more than a few minutes.
But Erestor doesn’t mind the heat. No, he loves it; the chief counsellor practically soaks up Anar’s rays shining on his living quarters’ balcony, dressed in a simple dark tunic and trousers with tall boots. He was reclined on a chaise, his raven hair secured back in a pristine yet comfortable bun and an old Noldorin poetry book in his hands.
There is a faint breeze in the air, the streets are quiet, the birds are singing, and Erestor is content.

Fic: The Restless Botanist 4/10, M, Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond/Lindir
Chapter 4: The Frightened Librarian (link goes to AO3)
"I do not understand why you are upset. It is only a study, and Lindir needs the place!"
"Well, he will have to find another one then, for that one is taken," Gildor snapped. And with that cryptic comment, he just left Glorfindel standing there and hurried out of the library.
Who would be better suited to deal with a restless spirit than one who  has already experienced the afterlife? Alas, Glorfindel finds that  obstinate Elves do not become more docile in death. And if he wants  Lindir to return order to the Last Homely House and love to the life of  Lord Elrond, Glorfindel has to grasp the nettle – among other plants.

Fic: The Restless Botanist 3/10, M, Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond/Lindir
Chapter 3: The Lengthy Pistils (link goes to AO3)
"I forgot to close the door; maybe there was a draught," Lindir suggested.
"A draught?" Glorfindel arched his eyebrows, then looked at the book in his hands.
"You might find this a most fascinating and educational read."
He held the book out to Lindir, who took it and studied the title.
"Herbal Aphrodisiacs and Stimulants..."

Fic: The Restless Botanist 2/10, M, Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond/Lindir
Chapter 2: The Hidden Notebook (link goes to AO3)
"What was this study used for, Elrond?" he asked. "Was it part of the library?"
Elrond looked uncomfortable, which did not escape Glorfindel.
"Of sorts," Elrond slowly replied. "It dates back to the time when this place was founded, and – but really, must we dwell here?"
Notes:
This is the tale of obscure information. Beside reflecting on obsolete spring festivals, I ran with "Erestor, Elrond's kinsman" (see The Return of the Shadow) and the notion that he was Half-elven. Oh, the possibilities...

Fic: The Restless Botanist 1/10, M, Erestor/Glorfindel, Elrond/Lindir
Chapter 1: The Efficient Minstrel (link goes to AO3)
Who would be better suited to deal with a restless spirit than one who has already experienced the afterlife? Alas, Glorfindel finds that obstinate Elves do not become more docile in death. And if he wants Lindir to return order to the Last Homely House and love to the life of Lord Elrond, Glorfindel has to grasp the nettle – among other plants.
Notes:
This tale was originally scheduled for Hallowe'en 2020, so I'm a little late. But goosebumps work well at 30°.
This is a ghost story, and ghosts are, by their very nature, individuals who are not dwelling among the living anymore. I still don't think this needs a "major character death" warning, though.

Again trsb21 has sucked me right in the world of Tolkien - and there's still a long way before I can reveal the art I did for that - so I obviously had to make another piece (I streamed a bit of the process, you can check out my twitch for that)
The piece is based on an idea that something went wrong when G was returned from the dead and he ends up a place bound spirit. E has lived a life of an exotic entertainer and is alledgedly a witch - he stumbles across the place G is haunting.
The thing about spirits like G is that they can hop on a person (a possession of sorts) to catch a ride somewhere else. However there's a catch: 1. to posses a person the "victim" has to be considerably weakened and 2. Carrying around a spirit brings horrible luck and puts the person in mortal danger. These are not well known facts.
G is still bound by duty and the 2 head towards Imladris. During the journey G learns to partially manifest for short periods while E consults various people/trees/spirits to try and find a way to craft a body for his favorite spirit.
Fic writers may go wild if they so wish. I will in no way attempt to stop you if you'd like to write something based on this/parts of it. (I love you.)
I'm in desperate need of glorestor.

Glorfindel: He-
Erestor: stfu
Arwen: Love is fascinating.

Throws more baby Aragorn at you because that's all my brain can think about these days... also Erestor is there. Enjoy.
"Uncle Erestor?" a child's voice asked softly behind him.
He was just on his way back from the library to his bedchambers and had halted for a moment to look at the full moon, who's light was shining bright and white through the high windows into the corridor. He averted his eyes at the sound of the unexpected voice behind him and looked down at a small, sleepy human boy peeking cautiously from behind a vase.
"Estel," he sighed, holding out a hand for the boy to hold, "it's almost midnight, shouldn't you be asleep by now?"
He looked admonishingly at Elrond's foster son. The boy looked up at him out of big, round googly eyes and hugged the already somewhat worn stuffed eagle that Glorfindel had given him and that he carried everywhere, tighter.
He was trembling a little.
Erestor didn't know much about mem, he had effectively avoided them enough for that, but he did remember from a long time ago that men could quickly become ill if they were exposed to a certain cold for too long... and Estel was wearing nothing but a thin nightgown. The boy didn't even put on a pair of shoes!
"I can't sleep," the child now confessed to him guiltily, "There's a monster under my bed..."
"There isn't..."
He interrupted himself. No, that would be pointless. Children did not yet think logically enough to understand that there could be no such thing as monsters under the beds here in Rivendell. Especially not under this little boy's bed.
"And what do you think I should do?" he asked instead, preparing himself for the worst.
"Can I stay with you until it's gone?"

it’ll build character (the first oath)
[Fifteen elves swear to bear children for the Valar in exchange for the protection of their race, and thus the Maiar come into being. This story follows the ramifications of that choice from the Years of the Trees through the Fifth Age of Middle-Earth.]
Chapter 58: it'll build character
Picky eaters, burnt tastebuds, baby slings, ultramarathons, and interesting variations on color vision: this chapter has it all. (A sort-of interlude.)
Featured characters: Maglor, Maedhros, Elmo, Elenwë, Daeron Secondary characters: Evranîn, Indis, Gildor, Erestor, Lindir, Denethor (discussed), Lenwë (disc.)
Maglor groaned, and behind him Evranîn laughed. “Our stores are getting pretty low,” she said cheerily, tossing her own weapons to a corner and taking the last chair, putting her feet up on Maglor’s knees. “Better them than us!”
He pushed them off disgustedly and twisted, pulling off the leather bag he’d had across one shoulder. He pulled out several sealed letters and dropped them on the table, leaving the now-empty bag on the floor. One he pushed to Evranîn, who raised a brow and took it; the others he set to opening and reading himself.
Elmo slurped the last of the broth from her bowl and put it aside, stretching out and tapping Evranîn with a foot to gain her attention. Who’s it from?
“Lenwë and ‘Nalta,” Evranîn said, distracted. “And by that I mean it’s Lenwë’s words but ‘Nalta’s writing – I don’t think Lenwë’s ever bothered learning how,” she laughed fondly.

Some short self indulgent stuff don't mind me. Zero research has been done but I'm actually proud of this one.
Elrond had named the boy Estel, hope, for in him they placed all their hopes.
He was an agile child, he made trouble and played tricks, just like the other children of the Rangers who had spent their youth here over the millennia to learn had done before him.
Sometimes Glorfindel thought back to them when he watched Estel like this, but more often he felt reminded of another boy who had chased through the palace laughing loudly and calling for his grandfather back in Gondolin an infinitely long time ago. He had kept them all on their toes, lords and servants alike.
History remembered him as one of the greatest heroes of their people, guiding the brightest light across the night sky.
A fate similar to this was hoped for from Estel.
Not for nothing had they named him so, Estel was not only hope, but also part of Eärendil's epithet. Gil-Estel. Glorfindel was sure it was intentional, though Elrond rarely mouthed his father's name.
"Estel! That is not meant to be played with!"
Even though many, many generations lay between them, Estel and Eärendil were probably not dissimilar in behaviour either.
"Lord Glorfindel stop laughing, catch him!"

out of sight (the first oath)
[Fifteen elves swear to bear children for the Valar in exchange for the protection of their race, and thus the Maiar come into being. This story follows the ramifications of that choice from the Years of the Trees through the Fifth Age of Middle-Earth.]
Chapter 57: out of sight
Elmo joins a joint Lórien-Mirkwood force repelling Dol Guldur; Varda pulls Erestor out of nightmares, to disastrous effect; and Erestor lies through his teeth to Gil-Galad.
Featured characters: Tauriel, Elmo, Erestor, Varda, Gil-Galad Secondary characters: Rúmil (of Lothlórien), Ilinsor, Elrond
“Morwë!” Erestor shouted. “Morwë!” But her figure grew smaller and smaller, receding into the abyss beyond them. Melkor’s sharp, welcoming smile loomed above the smoke and chaos, taunting him.
He ran and ran, straight into the murk; pursuing her for all he was worth. He couldn’t lose her again.
Then he felt a hand on his chest, pushing and clawing, and he fell to his knees.
Melkor had found him.
