2024 APRIL POEM-A-DAY CHALLENGE: DAY 2
Today's prompt, from Robert Lee Brewer's blog Poetic Asides, is our first Two-Fer-Tuesday prompt, which means you get two prompts.
You can write to one of the prompts, both the prompts separately, or try to write a poem that works with both prompts at the same time.
The prompts are:
Write a happy poem, and/or...
Write a sad poem.
Two sides of the same emotional coin.
Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

The Be My Valentine Challenge 2024
An event from @timecanalwayshealyou
💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌
The Be My Valentine Challenge is a challenge for writers, artists, and just any kind of creator, from the first of February to the 14th!
The idea is to create thirteen smaller, lead-up pieces based on the prompts; for example, ficlets/drabbles/one-shots, couplets, small artworks, individual gifs, et. cetera - and finish the challenge with a larger work; a fic, a full poem, a gifset, a big artwork, whatever sparks for you!
They can be a series or separate, and you're free to change mediums or fandoms for different days. If you'd rather create fourteen small works, or all large ones, or a combination of both, that's completely up to you! Prompts can be used after the event, combined, just do whatever! Only "properly" used prompts will be reblogged to this page, however.
The catch; it's all romance prompts, in the spirit of Valentine's Day and because everyone on this site is single and lonely.
Each day has a quote from an iconic or relevant romance film (The Notebook, Red, White and Royal Blue, The Fault In Our Stars, Pride And Prejudice, etc.), an iconic love song, and a romantic cliché, act, or item.
This account will be reblogging a few works (art, drabbles, ficposts, etc.) from the event tag (bemyvalentine2024) each day. Full tagging rules, the transcribed prompt list, and other event details are under the cut. If you're unsure about anything, send in an ask! Happy Creating!
💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌
Tumblr media
There will be an ao3 collection open from the first of February to the fourteenth for submission. Artworks, gifsets, etc. posted to tumblr should be tagged appropriately to be seen as part of the event.
The official spotify playlist for the event can be found here.
💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌
Anyone who completes this event is considered a Valentine, and anyone who participates is a Lover. At the end of the event, a form will be put out, so if you wish to be tagged in a masterpost, keep an eye out! I won't be fact-checking, it's an honour system, so please be honest.
There will be completion and participation badges, too! They're in the works as we speak!
💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌 💌
Tagging System:
event tag - #bemyvalentine2024
prompt tag - #bemyvalentineno1, #bemyvalentineno2, etc.
(Or #bemyvalentinealt1, #bemyvalentinealt2, if you use alt promtps)
the theme or specific prompt/s you chose - #love poems, #quote, etc.
fandom or oc - #stranger things, #original content, etc.
any trigger warnings/nsfw tags if needed
and then your own tags!
Only works tagged correctly will be reblogged to this page, so please take note!

Prayer for Cernunnos
Lord of the liminal, the in-between The place between life and death, man and woman, hunter and hunted Lord of the cycles of life, of both ancient moss covered forests, and hallowed burial mounds King to all who live in your realms, plant and animal, witch and Fae, and all that lies in between. I honour you

I Have Not Lingered in European Monasteries
——————
I have not lingered in European monasteries
and discovered among the tall grasses tombs of knights
who fell as beautifully as their ballads tell;
I have not parted the grasses
or purposefully left them thatched.
I have not released my mind to wander and wait
in those great distances
between the snowy mountains and the fishermen,
like a moon,
or a shell beneath the moving water.
I have not held my breath
so that I might hear the breathing of God,
or tamed my heartbeat with an exercise,
or starved for visions.
Although I have watched him often
I have not become the heron,
leaving my body on the shore,
and I have not become the luminous trout,
leaving my body in the air.
I have not worshipped wounds and relics,
or combs of iron,
or bodies wrapped and burnt in scrolls.
I have not been unhappy for ten thousand years.
During the day I laugh and during the night I sleep.
My favourite cooks prepare my meals,
my body cleans and repairs itself,
and all my work goes well.
—————
This poem reminds me of Bachkovo monastery, Bulgaria in the spring.

A true friend isn’t someone who says what you want to hear. They challenge you. They question you. They reason with you, make you think, and often tell you what you need to hear, even if you don’t like it. Holding up a mirror so you can see yourself. Greek philosopher Plutarch said, “I don't need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.” I’d rather have a friend who picks my mind and shows me my reflection.

The lights aflame upon an inky night,
Slim lightning bugs against the murky sky.
While life’s great pounding din extends up high,
A match takes flame against his hands, so bright.
The flare emits a blare of brilliant white.
One deep inhale to hang his lungs to dry.
An exhalation, though more of a sigh.
A bitter thing before a glowing sight.
“I miss the grass of youth,” so whispers he.
“The lovely place where I did freely roam,
A stark contrast upon this urban sea.”
The words descend beneath the smog’s dark foam
And grow no grander than a broken plea:
An echo of a wish for home.

Let me tell you a tale of the swan prince and princess Two young lovers by the name of Caer Ibormeith and Aengus He searched the globe to find her and she sent him dreams Yet when he laid eyes upon her he found she is not all she seems She turned into a bird and looked up at him with deep black eyes And so he made himself a swan as well, and swam off with her into the sunrise
This celtic tale is thought to be a basis for many swan tales including Swan Lake and The Swan Princess, but finding hard evidence for this is difficult as many swan tales exist. as always I encourage you to do your own research.
Caer Ibormeith is a goddess of dreams and prophecy, and she marries the god of beauty and youth Aengus Og after they "fly off together in the form of a pair of swans." Source: The Dictionary of Celtic Mythology by James MacKillop.

PAD Day #10
I Am Enough
Nobody can love me more than me, But maybe that's why I am lonely. I can see every reason why I should twinkle in someone's eye, Because I see it every day in mine. I treat myself with awe and respect And so I expect nothing less. I know why my love is worth risking it all Because I risked it all to love myself. I see how it might be hard to compete With someone who loves as much as me, But if you can't love me the way I do, Then there's nothing more to say to you.

And what, precisely, were you doing in the garden?
Smashing the padlock and trespassing
Eating the apple and getting into trouble
Looking for answers from the gardener
It is like three different people talking at the same time
And every word means three different things
He was answering too many questions too quickly
And they were stacking up in my head like loaves of bread in a factory
Like being corrected by three mathematicians and still not seeing my mistake

Oblivion
Day 1
The lives I will never live, the words I will never say, the eyes I will never meet, can they knock another day?
Today is weighed by enough guilt, too formidable is the existing debris, for now, I only crave oblivion and the nothing it demands of me

hi, yes, I would like to honestly see Bronev or the Masked Gentleman and like the good sides of them tryna break free maybe? if that's too difficult, just one of the two is okay!
Tumblr media
i may have, once again, gone just a little overboard
[Image ID: A digital painting of, from left to right, Randall Ascot as the Masked Gentleman, Teen Randall, and Craggy Dale Randall, all in front of a black background. Each Randall has their own halo that is slightly melting. The Masked Gentleman does not have his mask, wig, or hat, and is staring down at his hands, which are covered in blood. He is visibly distressed. His coattails blow behind him and one of his wings is visible, stretching out to the right. Light is cast on him from below. Teen Randall is behind him, drawn from the chest up from behind the wing and in profile facing the right, holding his head high and smirking, looking back at the Masked Gentleman. He is cast in a softer, golden light from above. Craggy Dale Randall is drawn slouching and also from the chest up and in profile to the right, behind the other Randalls, holding up one hand with sand in his palm that is trickling out. He is drawn in a dimmer light with harsher shadows. The edges of the black canvas are colored a dark teal. Dark grey text at the top reads, with no spaces between the words or punctuation, "What have I done? You died! When you come back, you will never be the same." /.End ID.]
(accompanying poem below the cut)
what did i do?
you died.
why couldn't i live longer?
the truth is something you do not deserve
the truth is that the world should've moved on without you
you know this already.
so all you can do is rebuild
so lay down your sword,
farmer,
and shape yourself into the world you thought you left
and become a parody of yourself,
martyr,
be a symbol
or die trying.
sink into me and know yourself.

It's been a while since I've seen you, Since I last saw you up close, But you asked for what I couldn't give, And when I should've explained I just froze,
We've both moved on now, But sometimes I think of what we once had, I hope that for you it is the same, Because in the end I don't think it was that bad.
But we were never meant to last, So close our fires burnt each other, It was glorious when we worked, And in the end it was worth the bother.
It's been a while since I've seen you, Guess I'm finally moving on, Even though we never would have worked, I can now accept that you're gone.
