#But people like Clear Sky are terrible because *they dont care.*
bonefall · 1 year
Note
I'm glad you're keeping the part where Thunder puts himself between Clear Sky and Grey Wing, willingly showing that he would rather die before letting Clear Sky kill his dad.
That's actually a Bones Addition. You just think it's canon because it literally should have been there from the very beginning. Thunder doesn't get between them at any point during the battle, he runs towards them only to get interrupted by 2 people trying to kill him.
First was Falling Feather, who Jackdaw's Cry then jumps on and dies fighting with, sister killing brother.
Second was Leaf, who's a diehard Clear Sky supporter and general bully.
In canon, Clear Sky stops the battle after Gray Wing says the line, non-fucking-sensically imo. Killing his BROTHER is too far, but killing someone who wasn't even attacking him? A noncombatant who said something mildly insulting? That wasn't. Rainswept Flower did the SAME thing Gray Wing did and still got bumped off for it;
“Is this worth it?” he heard Clear Sky hiss at Rainswept Flower. Scrambling to her paws, she faced him. “What do you mean?” Clear Sky flattened his ears menacingly. “Are you ready to die just to stop me from making borders?” Rainswept Flower curled her lip. “You’ll keep stealing land as long as we let you.” “Stealing land?” Clear Sky’s mew trembled with rage, “I’m just making sure my cats never starve.” Rainswept Flower’s gaze flitted around the lush slopes of the hollow. “How could any cat starve here? There’s so much. Wanting more is just greedy!” “How dare you!” With a snarl, Clear Sky leaped for her, grabbing her throat between his jaws. Her paws flailed desperately, lashing out at thin air as he shook her like prey. Then she hung still. Clear Sky dropped her, gazing coldly at her lifeless body. “You never understood. I’m not greedy. I’m just strong.”
-The First Battle, Chapter 20
Then in Clear Sky's pathetic wet beast scene, he stares down at Rainswept's corpse, and thinks "I was so angry I don't remember killing her :("
So how, exactly, does this same character keep his cool when Gray Wing says the same shit but worse?? Is he really so controlled by emotion that his logical processes flip off, or fucking not? Gray Wing was refusing to submit, lunging at him, calling him power hungry and taunting him that he would kill his own littermate for it, and THAT manages to get through Clear Sky's blood-poisoned head?
"ouuugh it's his brotherr that's why his personality completely changes for him" the fucking guy tried to have this same brother murdered in Sun Trail by Fox. The first book. He EXILED HIS OTHER BROTHER for having a broken leg because he, "didn't want to look biased"
Again; is he controlled by his fear and anger or not? Is this a man who would snap the neck of someone he cares about because he feels insulted, or not?
The answer is that the Erins are breaking their spines bending over backwards to try and keep him "redeemable" when he shouldn't be. He's whatever the plot needs him to be, but the most consistent character traits point towards Clear Sky being the kind of person who would never have wanted to change his ways.
So, they write Clear Sky ridiculously backing down for Gray Wing, calling off the battle and "coming to his senses" instead of having Thunder do WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE and jump to his REAL dad's defense.
This is what I mean when I mention how firmly I feel that Clear Sky's Redemption Arc was a mistake. He works best as a villain, a fearful, proud, controlling monster, understood by his impacts on other characters rather than as a person the story should concern itself with sympathy for.

They once said to me: Don't say nothing if what you have to say isn't nice.
I spent so much time trying to decide in the bold concept of what was wrong or right In front of people that surrounds me, because I Cared too much. That I just stopped talking.
There's things you should not talk about because the barrier of basic respect doesn't allow you to, that hurts other people and the line is clearly drawn in some point of there.
But, the more you're complacient with people the more blurring the line becomes. My program design leds me to be complacient and the very first relationships that I established with other androids were based on please them.
That is the problem. If you expected to be friends with everyone acting like everything except who you are you will never get real friends. It sounds repetitive and corny with the "be yourself" allegory. But it really is true, a pleasant person is gonna become used by éveryone and, you cannot worry about people that don't get along with you.
I felt really bad for a long time for that, but im also an android who appreciates memories and experiences, and I noticed, every moment, that i spent thinking about being alone and genuinely having such terrible days by it, i was missing what could be a great day.
A great day of falling snow, seeing the trees regrowing their leaves, enjoying the remains of a subtle rain with an almost clear sky with the sunset coloring the sky.
My point is, if you dont realize of all those things that others told you and you let them into your head they would accomplish damaging you. Because what is life if it's not about enjoying the experience. Learn to be with ourselves and make through difficulties with the proper self-awareness of every situation.
You, matter first, be in peace with yourself, love yourself. And don't let anyone tell you anything else, not even your creators.

“You haven’t seen her?” Zuko sighed as the same words he had heard on repeat for the past hour played through his ears again. “It’s alright, thank you. Have a good night.”
He shook his head at his friends, their defeated expressions mirroring his own as he leaned against the kitchen island. He ran an exhausted hand through his hair, and he couldn’t help but think of the countless times you had done it for him.
“Your sister doesn’t play when it comes to theatrics,” Aang lamented as he plopped on the couch next to Sokka.
“Tell me about it,” he muttered. “I mean, she doesn’t pull stuff like this. Sometimes she went over the top when she was younger, staying out a little too late or doing something stupid, but she never just… she never just tried to disappear like this. I.. I guess she was too worried about Katara and me to do anything like that, but still.” He knocked back the rest of the seltzer and tossed the can on the table — alcohol was tempting, but none of them wanted to be any less than completely aware tonight.
“We all knew she was hurting,” Sokka continued. “Not even she could be fine after everything that happened with Hahn, especially the day after, but I— I guess I thought that she would open up before just dropping off the radar completely!
“No news from the girls,” Aang announced, prompting a collective sigh from the other two boys. “I gotta give it to her, she’s been very thorough with this.”
“Of course she has. It’s classic Y/N — she can disappear without a trace, sure, but she can’t put enough effort into picking up some supplies for my project on her way home.” It was a lame attempt to lighten the mood, and though he got a weak chuckle out of Aang, it was radio silence on Zuko’s part.
“Hey, buddy.” It didn’t snap him out of his reverie, and Sokka seriously contemplated throwing his empty soda can at him. “You okay?”
“She didn’t even say anything to me,” he finally murmured, eyes trained on his phone screen. “She said she would tell me if she was having a hard time, but she didn’t say anything to me. Just suffered in silence until it got so bad she just up and left. She just… left. Without a single word to anyone. To me.”
Aang’s eyes softened and he let out a loose exhale. “Zuko, she didn’t mean to hurt you — I know that much. She’s just been under a lot of stress lately, and… I guess it didn’t manifest in the best way.”
“Stress...” he muttered, trying to piece it together. There was something nagging at the back of his skull, something on the tip of his tongue, but he just couldn’t get it. “And you guys are sure she hasn’t put anything anywhere? No texts that you missed, nothing?”
“Believe me,” Sokka said. “I’ve refreshed her pages a thousand times by now. It’s radio silence on her side. God, I wish I was more invasive and put like, a tracking device on her car or something! For all we know, she could be back to Kyoshi.”
Kyoshi. Stress. This whole thing, your disappearing act.
And suddenly, it clicked.
Zuko stood up abruptly, nearly knocking over the stool in the process and warranting puzzled looks from both of his friends as he grabbed his keys off the table and practically ran to the door.
“Zuko, where are you going?” Aang questioned.
He tugged the door open and shot a glance back at them, tension having noticeably dissolved from his shoulders.
“I know where she is.”
-
Zuko tapped idly against the steering wheel, once again glancing down at his phone screen but to no avail. His relationship with you had become infinitely more complicated since the kiss through fault of both of them — he supposed that was what happened when two people who didn’t know how to talk about their emotions caught feelings for each other. Zuko was very skilled at sticking his foot in his mouth whenever he tried to talk about anything like this, and
But you had accepted his offer to talk on the way home, so that meant something.
He had originally suggested just talking on the way home like he had proposed earlier, but you had a different idea. ‘Trust me,’ you had told him. ‘It has a good track record with making people feel better.’
Your proposition was a wildflower field on the outskirts of the city, just out of the way that someone would go en route to the university. Far enough from the city to emanate an aura of peace, but close enough to be a feasible trip.
“I found this place when I was missing home,” you smiled as he parked the car. “I love it here, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes I just feel homesick for Kyoshi. You passed a field like this on the way into town, and when I stumbled here, it just kinda felt like fate. So now whenever I’m stressed, or overwhelmed, or just need a break, I come out here. And I think this is the perfect place to talk about… well, whatever’s going on with us.”
“Sounds good.” He returned the sentiment then cleared his throat. “As long as we don’t go in there. I can admire it from afar, but just looking at that field is making my skin itch.”
You laughed and nodded amiably. “Deal.”
-
One hand was splayed against your chest, the other trailing lazy circles with the pads of your fingers against the metal as you gazed up at the sky. You had the best and only seat of the view, the flora drifting softly in the night breeze as the stars twinkled from above.
You didn’t know what you were thinking, being here. The past couple of weeks had just been… crushing you. It was like your heart was stuck in a vice and no matter what you did, it just got tighter and tighter.
You had been treating everyone you knew horribly, but you couldn’t stop. It felt like a game — how terribly could you act towards them until they snapped too? Until your friends, your siblings, Zuko, recognized that they had made a mistake by trying to help you?
And you didn’t know what it was about today, but… something inside of you just broke after that morning with your roommates. So you did what you were best at, and you ran. Skipped class, skipped work, just drove around aimlessly until even that was starting to feel like too much of a trap.
And then you ended up here.
It would’ve been laughable if you weren’t on the verge of breaking down.
You had been here, just laying on the hood of your car parked a few feet away from the field on an off road path, for the better part of an hour. If you were going to drown underneath the weight of your thoughts, it was better to do it alone.
But as you heard the crunching of gravel underneath car tires, your eyes instinctively shot towards the noise — so much for being alone — and you sat up. Your brows furrowed in recognition, you knew that car, and it felt like your heart was going to beat out of your chest when Zuko stepped out.
“You remembered,” you breathed after a moment of silence. “You’re here.”
“Always.” He said it so obviously, so easily — why wouldn’t he remember? Why wouldn’t he be here?
You scooted over to make space on the hood and patted the space next to you softly, pulling your knees up to your chest in a moment of shame as he walked around to the front and pushed himself up next to you. What were you going to say to him? What could you say?
“I’m sorry,” you said out of the blue, your words pouring out of you like an emotional waterfall. “I’m sorry for just— for just leaving, I know it was stupid and I know they’re all probably worried out of their minds, but I couldn’t do it, Zuko. I-it was like I was trapped, and I know it was irrational, but I had to get out of there—”
“You didn’t have to,” he said quietly, effectively stopping your rant. “If you really had to get out, you could’ve at least said something to one of us. I don’t know what things were like back at Kyoshi, but here— here, you can’t throw yourself back onto the knife every time something goes wrong, because— you just can’t do that anymore.”
“I’m not mad, believe me, I’m relieved that you’re okay. I just..” he sighed and glanced up at the night sky, the light of the moon illuminating his features as he faced you once more. “I know you’ve felt alone before, but you’re not. You have Katara, and Sokka, Suki, Toph— you have me, Y/N! And I’m not going anywhere, trust me, but— but you can’t keep doing this to yourself, because they care about you, and I care about you.”
You swallowed the lump in your throat and chose to concentrate on the hood of the car, tapping your fingers against the metal as a way to use up your nervous energy. “You’re… you’re right,” you said after a long moment of silence, the beginnings of a mirthless smile on your lips.
“After that night at the party, I just— I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. There was a part of me that just wanted to lock myself in my room and never come out, but I— I told myself I was better than that, and I refused to let myself fall back onto any of it. So I worked. I took extra shifts, I helped out my professors, I did anything and everything I could to try and keep my mind off of Hahn. But I wasn’t helping anything, I was just… I was destroying myself. It was just like you said. I was a candle burning at both ends but still convinced that I was doing the right thing, and eventually.. I just couldn’t take it anymore. So I ran.”
“And— there’s always been this… this voice in my head that pops up after things in my life are going good, and it tells me that something is going to go wrong. A-and it tells me that if I’m the one that ruins it, then I don’t have to ask myself what I did wrong, if I could’ve stopped it from happening— if it’s inevitable, then I should be the one to ruin it. It’s how most of my relationships ended, and— well, the only thing it’s succeeded in is making me miserable.”
You don’t even notice your hands are shaking until you feel Zuko placing his own over yours — a simple gesture asking an unsaid question, one you answer by intertwining his fingers with your own.
“That same voice popped up again once I started getting close to you,” you admitted quietly. “And this whole time, I’ve been so terrified of falling that I never considered you would catch me. But I’m tired, Zuko. I’m tired of constantly looking over the edge.”
As you turned your head to meet his eyes again, your breath caught in your throat at his close proximity. You were sure that no matter how much time you spent with him, your heart would never stop beating out of your chest for Zuko.
“I will always be there to catch you,” he affirmed softly. “And I’m not going anywhere.”
And just like before, he brought his hand to the side of your face and tenderly brushed a loose strand of hair behind your ear. His hand, slightly calloused but emanating comfort all the same, lingered on your cheek for a moment before he posed the question.
“Can I kiss you?”
You nodded, and his lips captured your own immediately. You reciprocated with an almost desperate fervor and— and it just felt so right. You had grown so accustomed to the constant warmth he carried with him that it had become a part of you, he had become a part of you, and now a life without Zuko was just unimaginable.
He was right — he already was there to catch you, each and every time. Giving you endless rides when your car broke down, sitting through the world’s most boring anthro projects, letting you bare your soul to him, telling you it was all going to be okay when nothing felt okay, and managing to find you when you had gone out of your way to not be found. And all of it— it all made you realize.
You didn’t want to keep running. And you didn’t have to. Not anymore.
Zuko pulled away and pressed his forehead to yours, breathing slightly labored as the two of you sat in comfortable silence. That is, until you broke it.
“So,” you started, a nervous chuckle following. “Are we… are we a thing now?”
You could tell that caught him by surprise by the laugh that escaped him, a sound of unfiltered joy. “I’d say that we are.”
You could feel the heat rushing to your cheeks once more as he slid off of the hood of the car and held out his hand, an offering you took happily. “We should get home,” he said, somewhat reluctantly. “It’s past midnight, and—” Zuko glanced at his phone and grimaced. “They’re all still worried out of their minds.”
“Right,” you muttered. “I’m gonna get the lecture of my life from Sokka and Katara.”
“Probably,” he chuckled. “But they’re just doing their job as concerned siblings.” He pressed a chaste kiss to your forehead and glanced back at his own car. “I’ll see you back at the apartment?”
You nodded, an uncontrollable smile pulling at your lips. “Thank you, Zuko. For this, and— for everything.”
He returned the sentiment, golden eyes filled with adoration.
“Always.”

Cedric x Reader- Dont Leaf Me Alone
hey! may i request something with cedric? a slytherin reader, where he keeps asking them on a date and they're always saying no, and one day he asks them again and they yell at him and he starts crying. so then the readers like oh shit and realizes they like him A LOT and is holding cedric and saying sorry so many times? thank you and i've loved your previous cedric fics!
March~
You sat comfortably in the clock tower’s courtyard, the stone cool on your palm as you supported yourself. You were lounging, watching as people moved around, buzzing with life and smiling with friends. Your neutral expression soured as you saw a group of people in similar green robes, laughing and taking glances your way.
You could practically hear them making fun of you as they whispered to each other. The Slytherins you’d once called friends created an ice cold den of snakes as they gathered together and mocked you from a distance. Your boyfriend- your ex- you reminded yourself had his arm wrapped around your friend- that bitch- and smiled as he brushed his lips against her cheek.
It might have no disgusted you so much if they hadn’t been seeing each other while you’d been head over heels for the bastard. A sweet smile from your friend and you’d so blindly trusted the both of them. You knew better now.
You rolled your eyes, ignoring the burn as you tried to convince yourself that you didn’t care. It doesn’t matter. It’s been a month. I’m over it. You chanted to yourself as you pulled yourself to your feet. Your people-watching had been completely ruined by their presence as the ice coursed through your veins.
You were still in your sour mood as you tried to drown out the voices behind your back, looking to get anywhere else. It was then that a hufflepuff with a slim build, bright eyes and breeze swept hair approached you, a bundle of barely budding flowers and weeds in his hand.
“Y/N!” He grinned, long legs carrying him to you before you could turn around and escape in the other direction.
“Cedric,” You acknowledged with a tight smile. It wasn’t that you didn’t like Cedric, he was sweet. Or he seemed to be. You weren’t sure if it was all a facade, something used to keep his popularity afloat and the girls swooning. You refused to be one of them.
“Um-” Cedric stumbled over his words for a moment, your less than lackluster greeting tripping him up. He did his best to recover though as he took in your stiff form, your eyes glaring at his rugged bouquet. He hadn’t had much luck turning his quills into anything pretty so he had run out and picked whatever looked nice. He extended his arm. “If you were a flower, I’d pick you,”
Cedric was hoping for well anything really. What he got instead was an unimpressed appraisal of his poor pick up line, your eyebrows shooting to your hairline as if to say really? that was the best you could do? He grinned at you like he wasn’t sweating bullets right now and waited for you to take the flowers, say something, laugh for gods sake if nothing else!
“Flowers die when they’re picked Diggory, trying to say you want me dead?” You shot back and Cedric’s stomach twisted uncomfortably.
“N-No! I was trying to-” Cedric defended but you were already moving past him and when he got his bearings back you were gone.
What the hell just happened?
Cedric dropped his head into his hands, groaning as Ernie snickered into his hand.
“She really said that?” The underclassman continued to laugh softly, his own pride soaring as Cedric got knocked down a peg. “I can’t say I feel bad for you Ced- Y/N’s as bitchy as they get,”
Cedric’s head shot up as he sent Ernie a withering glare. “Say that about her again MacMillan and I’ll make sure you never say a god damn thing again,”
Ernie paled and Zacharias cut in. “He’s a prick maybe, Cedric, but he isnt wrong. Have you ever seen her smile? Or do anything with her face that wasn’t a scowl. I’ve only ever seen her happy with that douche she called a boyfriend and even he dumped her for being too icy- or so I’ve heard,”
Yes, he had. You’d lingered on the quidditch pitch even after your fellow Slytherins had filtered out and the Hufflepuffs got ready to practice for the rest of the morning. A single flower had been blooming, going unnoticed by Filch. It was rosy and bright- a sore thumb- on the otherwise monochromatic green of the field.
A relaxed, gorgeous, smile had slipped onto your features and Cedric had been lucky enough to catch it as he was the first to walk out. That smile had been haunting him for weeks now, playing in his dreams. He wouldn’t mind being the one to make you smile like that.
“You don’t know her, leave her alone,” Cedric grumbled to the two boys who were making his miserable day even worse. If he heard Ernie mutter “neither do you, you tosser” and Zach follow with “why even try? she doesn’t like anyone” he pretended not to notice.
You lay on your bed, staring at the canopy above you, eyes tracing the pattern and losing yourself in the monotony of it. You could pick apart the shapes that had been made into the fabric and create different ones. You snorted as you saw the face of a goat in the shadows of the fabric, as well as a cloud looking swirl and then in the wrinkles of the canopy there was something resembling a flower.
To anyone else these would be entirely different things- only your eyes saw the silly shapes in the negative space of the velvety canopy. You always knew what was on your mind- or the absence of anything on your mind- when you gazed up.
Flower. Cedric. Your conscience whispered at you and you squeezed your eyes shut tight like it would vanish that thought of him.
His flirting had been...endearing terrible. You barely knew him! Why was he talking to you? He probably just wanted to mess around, have another notch on his belt. Cedric isn’t your ex. He could be nice. The kinder, trusting part of you mentioned but you squashed her out. She got hurt too easily.
Sighing you grabbed your pillow and covered your face, groaning into the fabric. You were tired of people.
--
April~
Cedric had to try again apparently. You frowned when you saw him leaning against the wall, a daisy in his grasp as his eyes found you the second you walked past the doors.
“Not a daisy goes by that I don’t think about you,” He tried.
And failed.
You hardly even spared him a glance, blowing air out your nose in a scoff.
“Have you tried amnesia? I think it would help both of us,” Was all you had to say.
Cedric felt as droopy as the daisy that he tossed to the floor.
--
May~
There was one person who didn’t know how to leave you alone. The first time it had been cute like how giving your mom a macaroni necklace in elementary was cute.
Maybe it was cute because it was genuine. Shaking your head you removed that thought faster than you could blink. Cedric Diggory didn’t seem genuine. His smile was too honest and you feared the lies that could lie behind those pearly whites. His eyes were too pretty and you knew if you looked too long you would become lost, maybe to the point of no return. His voice was too comforting and you knew you’d believe everything he said if you were more naive.
You didn’t hate the boy by any means but you weren’t looking to make another mistake and you had had enough dating drama to last you a life time. You had sworn off dating teenagers who were just looking for fun and nothing else- it didn’t matter who got hurt in the process.
You weren’t wishing to be a part of Diggory’s process.
You thought the closer you got to the forbidden forest you got the further everyone else would be but Cedric still managed to find you as the sun started it’s descent in the sky. You had shed your robe, treating it as a blanket while you lounged in the evening warmth.
Summer was near, you could feel it. You could see it in the way the students tapped their feet during class, eyes darting to the windows as they dreamed to be out in the clear weather.
And now you could smell it. A floral fragrance enhanced by the heat drifted your way and when you tore your eyes from the ripples in the black lake where you had gathered pebbles to see how far you could toss them from your place in the grass. Maybe you should start calling Cedric pebble, with how far you keep tossing him away.
“Y/N-” Cedric smiled as he began his greeting, lips quirked up and expression completely open.
“Wait,” You interrupted with a heavy sigh. “Before you say anything can I ask why? Why do you keep doing this, bothering me? What has got you so incredibly fascinated with someone you don’t even know? We don’t speak, we don’t share classes, we don’t do anything and that’s how I like it. I don’t care about your fragile male ego, I don’t care that everyone here likes you. I. Dont. Care. So please, spare me for the first time in months and stop hitting on me,”
The words escaped before you could catch them and as you came back to yourself you moved your eyes from the spot just behind Cedric’s shoulder where you had been focused on to his face. You were expecting a smirk, something deflecting that you had torn him to shreds and that his pride was wounded.
It seemed in all reality, it wasn’t his pride that was wounded, but his feelings. Something surprising and sharped dug around in your gut as you watched Cedric stare at you with blank eyes, misted over- almost as if what you said had hurt him, the air punched from his lungs and his eyes watering. But that couldn’t be, he was just like your ex (probably), he didn’t care for you (did he?).
You only then noticed that he had a bunch of sunflowers in his shaking hands, tied together with a ribbon, a little card tied to them. It was a smart bouquet, pleasing to the eye.
“Um- I-” Cedric stumbled, sniffling as he blinked hard, a droplet falling past his eyelashes and splashing against his high cheekbones. He hastily swiped it away as his face colored in embarrassment. “Sorry then, for being a- for being a bother,” His response was canned, disconnected. It knocked your own air from your lungs but you couldn’t help but sink lower into the discomfort.
The sunflowers fell to the grass and Cedric nodded once, twice, taking a glance at you as you schooled your expression into something critical and cold. It was his turn to walk away, his heart thumping dully in his chest.
Cedric was long gone from sight when you gathered up the flowers, brushing the petals with your fingertips before you read the note tied against the stems.
“You make all my days sunny” Was scrawled messily but earnestly- like someone had tried to make all the letters neat and even but ended up failing- on the thick card stock and you tried swallowing the lump in your throat that began to form.
You’d made someone hurt like you had been hurt but you were starting to realize that it just made everything worse.
--
June~
School was coming to a close. You didn’t get any more visits from the Hufflepuff.
--
September~
You saw Cedric as he boarded the train. He’d taken one glance at you and then decided it was for the better.
--
October~
The leaves had turned brown weeks ago and you wondered if Cedric missed picking flowers. Maybe he was glad to have no reminder of you. You hoped so.
--
November~
You were wrong, wrong, wrong.
You didn’t hate people, you didn’t hate trusting, you didn’t hate Cedric. You hated that you had chosen to trust and you had been hurt by it. You hated that you had fallen for their lies and their fake smiles. You hated that you had given all you had and then you were left cold. You hated that you had hurt Cedric because you hadn’t known how to give kindness without fearing that it would be used against you.
Every time you passed by you saw his shoulders go tense, like you were a snake that was bearing its fangs right before striking. Guilt had been steadily pooling in your stomach for months and now it was starting to get suffocating.
Guilt and loneliness. You had come to look forward to the expected visits from Cedric the year previous, always with a different flower in hand and a new pickup line falling past his lips even when he’d seemed nervous. Now that he no longer came to see you, you missed it. You were the one to chase him off. You reminded yourself.
You were walking around aimlessly, sweater pulled tight around you as you took in how the flowers had long since wilted as the cold wind shocked them to the ground. Cedric wilted from dealing with your chilly attitude.
Shut up. You glared into the distance like you were glaring at your conscience.
Cedric was walking around too but he hadn’t expected to see you, arms wrapped tightly around yourself and muttering to yourself, eyes set forward in a dangerous glare. His heart constricted in the fear that you were glaring at him.
It didn’t seem like you knew he was less than three yards away from you. This ended when he stepped on a particularly crunchy pile of leaves and you startled like a deer in the headlights, looking even more startled when you realized who it was.
“Sorry, I’m leaving,” He said quickly but was stopped by an ice cold hand in his. How long had you been out here?
“No!” You demanded. “I mean... please wait?” Your grip loosened as you faltered. You had made a move, now Cedric got to decide if he answered or not.
Cedric wasn’t sure how to feel as you stopped him. You sounded softer than usual, the edge to your voice that you usually held with him now gone.
“Why?” He croaked, voice more gruff than he’d wanted it to be as his nerves caught up to him. “I’m sorry for whatever I did or if I made you uncomfortable but I won’t do it again. I got your message loud and clear, Y/N,”
“You didn’t do anything,” You explained and Cedric couldn’t help the confusion.
“So you hate me for absolutely no reason?” Cedric laughed breathlessly, in disbelief. You were a rose, but he hadn’t been prepared for the thorns. “Good to know, thank you so-”
“I don’t hate you!” You interrupted. “I-I messed up,”
You nervously twiddled your fingers, forcing yourself to continue looking Cedric in the eye. Maybe he would see something that kept him around long enough for you to apologize.
“That day in the courtyard, you caught me at a bad time-”
“And the other times after that?”
“I know you don’t owe me anything but please hear me out Cedric... I’m not asking for forgiveness but I do want to apologize and I want you to understand,”
Cedric sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose but your hope paid off. He could see the remorse swimming around and darkening your gaze. He wasn’t sure if the autumn air was bringing tears to your eyes or if it was your seemingly sudden guilt over how you’d treated him.
“That day, I watched while my ex and my old friends gathered in the courtyard and laughed at me, mocked me, just because they could. I’m a joke to them and have been ever since I found out he was cheating on me with my friend. To them I am the most pitiful person in school, worse than any gryffindor they might have a grudge against. They made me feel pitiful and then you were there being nice and I started to question your motives because I never question theirs and they used that to play me,”
Cedric’s wary gaze melted away to something closer to understanding and you breathed steadily. You were long since over your boyfriend and you had been healing but it still wasn’t easy to shake that mistrust you had programmed into yourself after all was said and done.
“You thought I was just another bad guy,” Cedric continued for you and you nodded. “Hence the whole ‘fragile male ego’ thing?” He guessed and you winced.
“I don’t know you, I don’t have a reason to trust you. But that being said, I was never given a reason to distrust you. I pegged you as something you weren’t.”
“And what am I?” Cedric asked as you grew stronger in your words, your bottom lip ceasing it’s quivering.
“Kind, above all. I don’t know who else would have kept trying after my blatant disregard for you... I was hurting so I took it out on you and I’ve had all these months to beat myself up for it. I guess what I’m saying is-” You shuffled around in your pocket, pulling out a wad of unique and multicolored leaves that you had found on the damp ground, the cold not having dried them out yet. “-I don’t want you to leaf me alone,”
You were waiting for Cedric to do anything, say anything. The silence ticked back as he stared at the leaves in your hands. His nose twitched and he took a surprised intake of a breath.
Then as he exhaled, his chest shook as he began to snicker. Two short bursts of unbelieving giggles before he was bursting into a more sturdy laughter. You felt small.
“I-I know it’s dumb, just know I’m sorry, yeah?” You muttered, trying to manage a smile before you turned to leave.
“Wait! Wait...” Cedric laughed softly but let it die out. “I’m sorry it’s just that was- that was sort of cute. I get why you did what you did, that doesn’t mean it hurts any less but I get it,”
“Y-you do?”
Cedric nodded, hand squeezing your shoulder. “Maybe we can start over?”
“God you’re such a hufflepuff,” You sniffled in shock. He wanted to start over? Of course he does, he isn’t your ex, he isn’t anybody but Cedric. Kind Cedric.
“God you’re such a slytherin,” Cedric poked back but his hand didn’t move from your shoulder and you appreciated it when he drew you into a hug. You squeezed him back tightly and he relaxed in your arms. He was happy to be hugging you because it felt right but also because you couldn’t see the way his eyes sparkled with unshed emotion.
The prettiest roses had the most thorns but he didn’t mind the cuts so long as you were there to bandage them back up.

warrior cats arc ranking since i reread the books pretty recently and tbc wrapped up
tbc > tpb > avos but only the first half >  dotc >  tpot > oots > avos but taking the boring second half into account > tnp
tbc is good because its warrior cats at its best and most melodramatic, the possession stuff is pretty unique and the protagonists are probably the best-realized in the series in my opinion. ashfur is a good villain because he sucks. the stakes are high. its good
tpb is... well its the first series. its good. we all know this. maybe its nostalgia but i really do think you get a more vivid view of what thunderclan is like as a community in a way the other arcs never really recapture. i miss the forest territories man
avos’s first half is SO FUCKING GOOD i miss when avos was really good. shattered sky is legit one of the best warriors books. it was a mistake to kill darktail in book 3 though since every book afterwards is just territory nonsense
dotc is underrated. i like clear sky he sucks so bad and i love his terrible wife
tpot is an arc that makes a lot of interesting promises and its all buildup for the cliffhanger at the end but its ultimately undermined by oots not following through on it very well. but the last two books of tpot are some GOOD SHIT. in general i think tpot had too much filler in it though
oots isnt as bad as people say but its not great. i think the issue i have with it is that theres a lot of waiting around for the dark forest to start doing stuff and most of the living clans dont know until really late in the arc, so theres no real feeling of escalation (something i think tbc did WAY better). it also bothers me how irrelevant the three’s powers were to the final battle considering this prophecy has been a Thing in two whole arcs. i guess thats what happens when you give 2/3 of them passive abilities, but i do think its not that hard to think of a way for dovewings hearing powers to help her in combat, maybe detecting ambushes or something
avos’s second half is boring. theres not much else to say
TNP IS THE WORST ITS SO BAD its literally so bad. i hate books where theyre just walking around and run into like a dog or a car or whatever. weirdly enough i liked the second half of tnp better than the first? like yeah ill read about hawkfrost drama idc. honestly i just think brambleclaw is a really meh pov character at best and infuriating at worst. “i dont want to be defined by my fathers legacy, but i WILL meet up with him in hell in my dreams :)” “i am not my blood! but also i feel obligated to defend my half brother because we are blood related” BRO HE IS COMMITTING MURDERS AND ORCHESTRATING COUPS IN WINDCLAN. AAAAAAAAAAAA. and thats not getting into all the stupid relationship drama, which i do not care about.

What about an scenario about Kai thinking on proposing and struggling with how to do it, cuz he wants it be perfect
Of course!
Tumblr media
"No. Horrific." He shook his head at his mind daring to think on such a terrible idea as he threw the paper on the nearby trash can on his office.
If he knew that preparing to proposing to someone was that hard, he would've had started to think about the issue right when he started to date you, because hole hell. It was harder then he thought.
And he was struggling with this shit for at least three weeks.
For something, or better yet, someone to get his attention and respect was extremely rare. And only one case in his all twenty something years of life was the special kind, the one who he had allowed to open up about his past and didn't judged him, the one who could atture and even came to love him for exactly what he was, despite having all his radical thoughts and issues like his mysophobia and... mental problems if you could even call it like that?
An angel that came from above to give his life some light and what he never thought he would have wanted neither need it at some point. Love and care.
You, a quirkless person who he always insisted that you were pure. An example for this sick society to follow, not to exclude like you were the wrong here.
He despised those type of people. How could they not see it that you were the original and right type of human? The one that wasn't sick like the others?
Ignoring all of that. After some years of knowing eachother, passing through good and bad, he had came to an thought some months ago that it wasn't leaving his head, no matter how hard he tried... until one day he simply gave up, and accepted it.
"I want (Y/n) to be mine. For life."
He remember those words he said to himself clear as the bright day outside. The realization took some time, but it hitted him like a train would. He truly loved you, only having you as a partner wasn't "enough", no. He felt the urge to have something, to prove to you and the world that you were his...
And for the first time in his life, he would say without a problem that he belonged to someone as well, even having his possessive habbits.
You were just like the moon and the clear night sky filled with stars for him. Despite the darkest and the most cold that the night can bring, they were always there to lead the human kind to safety directions.
... see? He thought on all of that. But he couldn't say it out loud. And that shit sounded way too cliche to propose to someone.
"Night sky? Fucking pathetic." He burried his face in his hands to growl freely on them before sighing and laying back on his chair.
Worst. The worst were the hardest, yes. But how the fuck should he do it in the first place? Just kneel on some dirty ground and say shit? On where? When?
He felt like he was going insane. He was always so serious and intelligent, always quick to make decisions. But this time? He felt for once pathetic.
He cant even think on where or how to propose to his loved one, what the actual hell?
"Sorry for the news boss. But those papers are from the other... you good?" He heard Kurono and Irinaka's voices and he grunted before standing up.
"Those are from rivals or allies?" He asked nonchantly as he grabbed the papers and read them cautiously with eyes full of disinterest and boredom.
"Allies." Kurono answered back before looking at the trash can filled with what was once papers "You were working on something?"
"None of your interest." He sighed and gave the papers back to Mimic "Return them to their owners, this doesn't have my interest and I have no time to waste on filth garbage like those."
Mimic nodded and left... but Kurono remained on the room. Catching a glimpse of what the messy papers were written and catching immediately what was going on.
And he felt nostalgia. Back to those days where he teased Kai freely. He could die that he wouldn't care, this was gold.
Chisaki looked at him with a arched eyebrow as he took of his mask and showed a smirk to him, the young head of the Shie Hassaikai already not liking one bit that face that smug bastard was doing it.
"Never took you to be the type of wanting to get married."
"... you son of a-"
"Relax! Relax!" Kurono dodged one attack of Kai and sighed in relief at not being killed by that spike Chisaki had just created. Bit still was chuckling "Is just surprinsing to see a guy who always claimed taht love didn't existed and DESPISE even the concept of touch wanting to get married."
"This has nothing of your interest, get out of my sign before I-"
"And you seem troublesome with that, judging by the amount of discarded papers, which by the way are not-" in one second he was overhauled and came back to look at a very infuriated Kai right in front of him.
"One more word that I will kill you for real and dont return back." He growled as Kurono smirked.
"Right, I will stop." Chisaki scoffed and went back to sitting on his desk with a huff but only burried his head on his gloved hands again as he stared at the blank paper in front of him.
"... If this is about (Y/n) accepting or not, they are crazy for you Kai. The least they could say is to wait a bit, but surely will accept." He tried to say something as Kai only sighed and pointed at no where while pinching the bridge of his nose.
"I have no idea why I am talking with out of all people this, but this is one of many of my issues about this."
"So there is more?"
"Much. First is that I have no fucking idea how to do it."
It was silence for a bit until Chisaki noticed how Kurono's eyes were wide open in shock, he arched an eyebrow as a silent question for him to explain his reaction.
"You? The most rational and strategist around here? Doesn't have a plan to propose?" He send a dark glare at Kurono as the man winced and rubbed the back of his head "Man, than the situation is critical."
"I apreciate the words Chronostasis. Really." He said in venom sarcasm before sighing again.
"You really dont have any ideas? Like, at all?" He shook his head and Kurono brought his hand to his chin in thought before snapping his fingers "Thought about asking advice to Pops?"
"You're kidding?" He glared at Kurono "The old man won't never leave down this one, and probably will be sappy shit."
"... doesn't you and (Y/n) do 'sappy shit' all the time?" He lifted his hand sup in surrender at Kai's death glare "No offense, but ever heard of 'the thought that it counts'? (Y/n) is not a person that is difficult to impress and enjoy the simple things. You know that better than anyone else in here dude."
"Of course I do, who do you take me for?" He asked in anger before sighing and looking down with a frown at the blank paper "... but they are not simple. (Y/n) made a drastic change in my life... so no one can't blame me for wanting and craving a unforgettable and memorable moment. I... I simply want to give (Y/n)-" Kurono widen his eyes at the way his cold childhood friend softened his usual murderous golden eyes at the mention of your name "The best. The best proposal, the best life, the best memories... I want this to be flawless, something that they can't look back and say 'it could have been-'. I want that neither os us have any regrets on this decision. Like the nowadays, where I dont have any regrets o entering on a relationship for the first time."
He lifted his head and found Hari looking at him with a smirk and he immediately scowled at it.
"Then I guess asking for some advice from the old man, despite hearing the no endless teasing would be worth it?" He tilted his head as Chisaki seemed in deep in thought "You got the help and service of all the yakusa, so you just need a plan. If you may allow, we will offer assistance and follow your orders."
He hated to admit that the blockhead was right. Absolutely despised it.
"... I guess."
Soon the door opened and the said so old man arched an eyebrow at the boys he raised in the same room and looking so serious but yet... like it wasn't a meeting neither business issue?
"Mind the both telling me what is going on?"
"Chisaki is thinking on proposing to (Y/n)." Kurono said nonchantly and dodged another attack of Kai.
"You disgusting piece of fucking-!"
"You are?" The elder asked in a certain serious tone, looking straight at Chisaki soul, catching him completely out of guard by his look.
"Is it a issue?" He remained his composture and uncaring look, but his nerves were starting to grow a bit at the thought that his mentor didn't approve it.
The man looked up and down at Chisaki before speaking in the same serious tone.
"Marriage is not only about claiming someone as yours Chisaki. Is about to care and vow even yourself for your partner. Protection, trust, respect are always the main pillars of having on a relationship and marriage." He turned hsi whole body to be in front of Chisaki as he spoke eyes to eye with him "Cases of the person who had their firts relationship and marriages are rare, but not impossible. Those are the ones we have to be extremely careful with. Now... knowing you in the way I do, answer me with pure bold honesty like you always did-"
The room went silent and even Kurono seemed uncomfortable at Pops seriousness, really considering on tip toeing out of the room.
"Do you really want this? What exactly brought you to this decision?"
Chisaki stared nonchantly at his mentor before sighing.
"What brought me for this decision was how and only (Y/n) makes me feel. The only thoughts I have before them were merely focused on rage towards my disgusting past, my hatred towards the heroes and how should I pay you for such kindness for taking me in.... with (Y/n) although I did not felt like a empty shell, I felt... I feel alive."
The elder hummed and asked one more last question.
"And you love (Y/n)? Enough to spend the rest of your life with them?"
"... I would crawl to hell and get back to earth if it meant I can see that smile and joy on my angel's face."
The elder chuckled lowly before patting Chisaki's shoulder, surprising the said man.
"Then you have my back Chisaki. And my blessing." He patted his head harshly out of sudden, causing Chisaki to growl and scoot away "And I heard you are struggling, I will give you some advice."
"I didn't ask for any of-"
"Bullshit." Chisaki deadpanned at the old man's vulgar vocabulary "If you're going to propose them you're doing it right."
He was in hell... why couldn't he had avoided all of this by merely thinking of something? Curse him and his brain.
"Am I interrupting something?" That voice right now was the last one he needed to hear.
"Angel, is actually-"
"(Y/N) my dear. Mind accompanying Kurono to grab some groceries?" Pops said suddenly and uncaringly "We are out of those. And I need to have a word with Chisaki."
"We are? Oh." Kurono muttered before going to the door frame "Yeah we are."
"But-"
"I will own you one my dear, dont be late."
"Pops I swear to god-" Chisaaki started to growl but the sound of Chrono closing the door caused his eye to twitch in irritation.
"So. Any ideas that crossed your mind?" The order spoke and chisaki only deadpanned at him "Cleary not apparently."
Someone, any divine creature... free him from his hell hole. Please.

kdrama rec: arthdal chronicles
Master Kdrama rec list.
Series: Arthdal Chronicles/Chronicles of Arthdal Episodes: 18 (with an opening for another season) SEASON 2 IS ON! (one..day) Genres: fantasy, pseudo-historical, politics, romance, action/adventure/Quests Spoilers in the Review: yes regarding one character :/ they’re a main and their existence is a spoiler If You Like, You’ll Like: spartacus, REVERSE HAREMS, villain couples with functional macbeth realness, male characters with hair better than the female characters, but female characters generally being far far more competent, moon lovers but not as sad, dictatorships for the Aesthetic, blood+, anything with Mystic God Priest Power, Destiny
Rank: 10/10
Tumblr media
“owning the land is equal to owning the sky and the wind.”
Premise (spoilers for the first episode and the existence of a major character).
in the pseudo-Bronze Age, two races of people (the sarams and the neanthals) live in an uneasy co-existence. the sarams want an alliance for the neanthal’s lands so that they can farm and mine, the neanthals are like lol we don’t need any of that because we actually have survivalist skills so keep your agriculture you nerds b y e.
the leader of the saram is Not Having That, and sends an envoy (asa hon) to allegedly act as a diplomat. what she actually does is unknowingly carries a plague that wipes out a huge chunk of the neanthals. because that is not enough, the leader sends his son (tagon) to wrap up the rest of this genocide.
asa hon is betrayed and upset and doesn’t return to the sarams. instead, she shacks up with a surviving neanthal named ragaz and they have spoilers twin boys spoilers, hybrids known as igutu. based on Prophecy, any children born under the blue flame comet are Destined to bring calamity. so, doom babies. they are two doom babies.
after killing ragaz, tagon snatches one of the babies For Reasons, and asa hon flees with the other
flashforward about a decade.
the neanthals are extinct OR ARE THEY we get a pretty Quick understanding of who tagon is as a human as he’s re-introduced drinking out of one of their skulls before being surrounded by his hypemen who chant his name Gaston style. he’s joined by taeahla, and they are a Match Made in Hell. it’s quickly revealed that taeahl is raising the other twin baby, who is kept hidden because he’s igutu. and, like, tagon’s famous because he killed all of the neanthal, so having one of their hybrid babies is ngl
asa hon makes it to a land beyond the saram’s influence, where she and eunseom come across a tribe called wahan. they’re lead by a ten-year-old tanya, who had a dream that eunseom would arrive. which is a big deal, because sarams can’t dream. it turns out tanya was also born on Blue Comet Doom Prophecy Day. asa hon dies from the injuries she obtained saving her son, and eunseom is raised by the wahan tribe. it’s a very idyllic existence for them.
until tagon and his men invade in a manifest-destiny-realness bid to capture slaves and conquer land and ruin wahan’s coachella festival before enslaving all of them and bringing what survives of the tribe to arthdal.
the plot then centers around eunseom trying to rescue the wahan tribe, the wahan tribe trying to survive arthdal, and something about gods being reborn, political backstabbing, a church cult being absolute dicks, and a lot of interchangeable evil old men
it’s a fucking awesome show.
Characters.
Eunseom
Tumblr media
A PRECIOUS BEAN BABY
eunseom’s been a part of the wahan tribe since he was ten, but everyone (especially him) is aware he’s Different From The Rest of the Reindeer. the only one who treats him the same is tanya, and it’s clear these two are joined at the hip. he has dreams of being locked away in a tower, has a bunch of ~strange~ ideas like trying to ride horses, and is totes crushing on the soon-to-be village wise woman. once the wahan village is attacked, he makes it his mission to save the tribe and his One True Love tanya
pure. does not think things through. just wants to believe in people, god damn it.
tanya
Tumblr media
my wife daughter of the wahanian version of “crazy old maurice,” and apprentice to the Great Mother of the Tribe. as another child born under the Doom Comet, she’s been known as the Prophesied One since birth (the One Who Will Break the Shell). we meet her as she’s struggling to follow in the Great Mother’s footsteps, and her journey is grounded in uncovering her mystical destiny. naive and a fish out of water, she leads her people in surviving arthdal after their enslavement
moves like jagger. center of a reverse harem. by her pretty flower crown she can end you
tagon
Tumblr media
this bitch but also that bitch. almost single-handedly responsible for the genocide of the neanthals, tagon’s grown into the leader of an army that is the definition of ride-or-die for him. he has a 100% approval rating in arthdal due to defeating the neanthal, defeating the ago tribe, and defeating the will to live for the thousands of slaves he supplies for arthdal’s terrible economic system. he starts the series off with Pure Intentions, in that he wants to rule but he wants to do it by The Love of The People. because that works out well for people who habitually wear black cloaks
poster child #1 for arthdal’s fantastic hair products for men, will smirk you to death, you feel sorry for him a lot and you’re like why?? but then yeaaah, can only stare in heart eyes at his partner in subterfuge...
taeahla
Tumblr media
MY WIFE said partner in subterfuge. i cannot spell her fucking name ever. her and tagon have been Not Together for over ten years. she’s the heiress to the hae tribe, who are known for their inventions and are the only tribe that knows how to smith bronze into weapons. therefore she’s hot shit. and also just hot. she seems like the character You’re Not Going to Like but she became one of my favorites after the first episode.
she wants to help tagon in his ambitions, but she also v much wants to see his ambitions help herself. her and tagon made an Oath to never sacrifice their survival for the other and that’s the most metal thing i’ve ever heard. she wears couture. would get a pre-nup. can and will fuck you up. and she also raises the Hidden Igutu Twin Doom Baby...SPOILERS
saya
Tumblr media
so at this point you’re probably thinking a few things: this show needs more beautiful hair and pro fashion sense, a complete shit stirrer, and a morally ambiguous pretty boy.
well well well
saya is eunseom’s twin brother, although neither of them know about the other’s existence. because of their neanthal blood, they can see snapshots of each other’s lives in their dreams. as his existence would lead to death, and would DEFINITELY garner tagon some bad PR, saya’s been locked away in his princess tower for the majority of his life. he views tagon and taeahla as his father and mother, and that’s not necessarily a good thing.
daddy’s boy. wants to kill birds for fun. has the hots for the girl who can teach him how to kill birds for fun. surprisingly religious???
Other support characters selected by how much they are my favorites.
Tumblr media
mubaek. an OG warrior and tired wine uncle
Tumblr media
chae eun. daughter of the somehow singular doctor in arthdal and the only one who actually wants to help people. INCREDIBLE knit wear
Tumblr media
xabara WARRIOR QUEEN OF A TRIBE OF MERMEN
Tumblr media
yangcha. like. just look at him. you already know he was your favorite character in the 923840923 angsty anime you watched in 2010. Ultimate Warrior for tagon who has Taken a Vow of Silence and Wears A Half Mask So You Know He’s Actually Hot. the mask is torn off his face dramatically at least once. there’s a quota for that kind of thing, you know
Tumblr media
this horse.
Drawbacks.
it’s very much an Ensemble show, which means if you’re only watching for 1-2 characters you’re likely going to get frustrated. there’s several plot lines going on
there’s a lot of Interchangeable Evil Old Men and i dont care about any of them
IT ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER AND SEASON 2 ISNT CONFIRMED YET ISNT GONNA BE UNTIL LIKE 2022
Reasons to Watch.
WORLD BUILDING. im a huge nerd for world building and the lore in this makes me so happy.
AESTHETICS. find me a more beautiful cast with more beautiful scenery and costumes. you can’t.
i love?? all the leads???? like normally i get frustrated with the second leads in dramas, but i genuinely love all of them and was interested in all of their stories. this show has an incredible cast/set of actors and they bring it home
im a sucker for romance. there’s some great ones. and omg do you know how rare it is to see a reverse harem?! get it, tanya
the time era is cool!!
Gods doing Mystical God Shit
so many female characters!!!!!! AND NONE OF THEM FIGHT OVER A MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEY’RE ALL BETTER AT THEIR JOBS
Final Thoughts.
WATCH THE THING
IT’S ON NETFLIX

Alot of people are misunderstanding and misrepresenting the “vote for biden” pleas, so allow me to break it down really easily with one of my personal favorite pastimes, Splatoon.
If you’ve never played, Splatoon is a game where you basically want to cover an entire map with your ink color in 4 v 4 groups. For the sake of ease, I am using the most evenly square map i can think of, Kelp Dome. (all of the splatoon maps are super even and symmetrical,  Kelp Dome is just the first square and flat map i can think of.)
Tumblr media
The way this works is, You and your team of 3 other people are assigned a color. and you want that color to hold the majority of the map, or else you lose. You dont want purple to win, they are the opposing team. Your objective is to make sure team purple does not win. So you pick up your splattershot and get to inking.
Assuming everyone is using the same weapon and are decently good at the game, you would come out with something like this.
Tumblr media
In practice it wouldnt be this clear cut(and judd would arbitrarily assign a winner at random), but hear me out. That is what a map looks like when everyone on your team works together to accomplish the goal. Everyone is playing the objective here. Every member inked two squares! Fantastic. We all did our part.
Now, youve done your part but you really hated it, who can blame you. You dont like the color Lime Green. You were hoping green would be like a forest green or more a true deep green and not this lime monstrosity you were assigned. You find another teammate has the same feeling, they hate lime green. Absolutely detest it. Did you hear what lime green said the other day? fuck that guy am I right? “ Fuck it,” you say “I refuse to play lime green! We’re going to play Sky Blue instead!” You and your teammate swap colors and sneer at the other two who are sticking with lime green. You play the match.
Tumblr media
Whops! You and your teammate played just as good as you did last game! You covered your two squares! What the hell happened?? Well, because you and your teammate decided to swap parties colors in the middle of the election season match, youve split the ink. It became a two vs two vs four. Team Purple was banded together, they had four people covering their turf. Meanwhile you had to fight with Lime Green AND Purple to keep your Sky Blue on the map.
“Well why didnt the rest of Team Lime Green also change their colors?!” your teammate asks.
“well, why did you change yours?” a player from Lime asks you, “We were all Lime Green before the match started, What happened?”
You dig your heels and rattle off the list, noting all the terrible things Lime Green has done, both in the past and the recent present. the Lime Green team members nod and ask “Have you seen what Purple is doing though? Like now, in office? Lime Green has done some seriously gross stuff, we dont deny that, but you would need to convince 60-75% of the country to suddenly change their outlook on life within a few months. Lime Green is the only actual option we have at this point. We can change colors after the match, but right now we need to focus on beating purple right?”
You dont find that answer satisfying. You dont want someone who has done all the terrible things Lime Green has running your country. You dont want Purple either. Both options are terrible! Both colors are horrible and ugly. They're right though, sky blue cant win, not with just the two of you painting your hardest. So If your color cant win, and you are forced to choose between Racist Rapist Lime Green or Racist Rapist Purple, how can you morally choose?
“You know what? fuck this!” you say, tossing your splattershot to the side, “Why do I have to vote play either way? One of these disgusting colors will win anyway, why do I care who wins? I just wont play, theres no point.”
you leave the arena with your Sky-blue teammate, watching from the sidelines...
Tumblr media
...as team Purple Slaughters team Lime Green. (in splatoon, the map would look alot less like that, and alot more like this:
Tumblr media
“serves them right for not picking Sky blue.”  you say and your blue teammate nods along. Team Lime green has lost. Team Sky blue has ALSO lost. Team purple has won. You chose not to play the objective.

ASK POLLY APR. 1, 2020
‘I Don’t Think I Can Handle 18 Months of Isolation’

Hi Polly.
So the world’s falling apart. I’m seeing quotes from experts that predict this will go on for 18 months or more. I don’t think I can stand the stress and isolation all that time. I have mental-health challenges, so I think I might crack. And I’m not sure our infrastructure can endure it either. I have a medical condition that’s stable and doesn’t put me in danger of COVID-19. However, I worry the strain on the health-care system will take away my treatment, leading to a slow death. And then there are the usual worries about things like food. Will the supply chains hold up six months or a year from now? How do you see all this happening and not start looking for an exit? I’m willing to admit that I’m weak or entitled. People around the world deal with this all the time. I don’t think I have it in me. How do I find some strength and hope?
Feeling Weak
Dear Feeling Weak,
On any day of your life, a million terrible things could happen. Every morning, you have to force all of the awful possibilities out of your mind. You do this because there is no alternative.
I’ve always been a very fearful person. I’ve always been sensitive to the fragility of the human body and the myriad ways lives can be ripped apart. My dad died when I was 25 years old, and it made me even more fearful. Then I had a baby.
Imagining all of the bad things that could happen to the baby almost sent me over the edge. I felt like someone had removed my liver and now I had to hand my liver over to other people, and ask them not to drop it or neglect it.
One day I came home, and my husband was holding my liver in one hand while stirring a boiling pot with his other hand, all the while talking to my stepson in an animated, cheerful fashion.
I freaked out. “You are going to kill me,” I said. “Calm down,” he said. “Stop being so overdramatic.”
My heart started racing even more (Pro tip: The words “calm down” are never calming!), but I washed my hands and then took the baby away from my husband. And then through gritted teeth, I said something like this: “You are going to listen to me very closely. Don’t talk. Just listen. I am in a very, very particular, unfamiliar, fragile place. I have never felt this way before. I’m going to have to describe it to you. You are going to have to listen. You do not have to understand or believe that I am remotely sane. You can continue to believe that I am irrational. But if you do not listen closely and respect and honor my needs around this fragile feeling, this marriage will end. Period. This is not negotiable.”
I wasn’t someone who threatened to end my marriage, ever, just to be clear about that. I needed to communicate clearly that we were on perilous terrain.
We retreated to the bedroom and talked for a long time. I told him what I needed in order to raise a baby with him. He told me the reasons he thought I was nuts. I told him that I was fine with him thinking I was nuts. He could continue to do that. Of course my views were not utterly rational. Rational was not the point. Calming down was not the point. He needed to understand how high the stakes were for me. Even if there was a .0001 chance that my baby would drop into the boiling water, the stakes were too high for me to endure those odds. He didn’t have to understand my feelings, he just had to operate as if he had the same feelings, for my sake.
It took a lot of persuasive talk, and tears, to get my husband on my side. It was exhausting. But by the end of our talk, my husband got it. He agreed to behave in ways that were guided by high stakes and my irrational feelings and to never say the words “Calm down” to a woman whose liver you’re holding. And if ALL OF THAT sounds nuts to you, that’s okay. These were the conditions I knew I required in order to raise a baby with someone who was more careless than I was in every way. These were the things I needed in order to share a house with this man and trust him to raise a family with me.
After that, I felt better. And my husband never told me to calm down when I described the toddlers who get left in the car or run over by a clueless grandparent backing out of the driveway. He took on the low-odds possibilities until he was worrying about them himself. I turned him into a slightly neurotic, hyperaware parent. I formed him into a seismograph, in my image. Call it twisted, I don’t give a fuck. It worked. We were aligned. We fought less. We kept our kids relatively safe from harm. Maybe we became obnoxious. Maybe we were paranoid. I still don’t care. I didn’t feel alienated and alone in my marriage, because I dared to get very, very specific about my needs.
And once I knew I had someone on my side, I started to calm the fuck down. I made a resolution to keep all of the looming threats in mind without INTERNALIZING and VISUALIZING and LOSING SLEEP OVER the millions of ways a baby could die or become injured. Any time I went from safeguarding my kids to picturing something awful happening to them, I learned to stop myself.
Doing your best to avoid disaster is practical. Repeatedly imagining disaster, on the other hand, is wildly impractical. Once I realized how jittery and anxious I was feeling, I steadfastly refused to indulge my imagination when it came to my baby. I resolved not to become a pile of nerves quivering on the floor. I wanted to breathe and feel happiness and survive parenting without being transformed into a shadow of my former self. I wanted my kids to be aware of danger but not paralyzed by fear at all times.
Mistakes have been made, that goes without saying. But the decision to never fixate on terrifying outcomes when it came to my kids was very important. I could still fixate on bad outcomes FOR ME. But that was (and is) a world apart from doing it about my kids. Eventually I didn’t have to try anymore. The second I pictured something terrible, it was just: NO. CAN’T.
Everyone is different. Everyone experiences different conditions as threatening or scary or paralyzingly awful. We all have to respect these differences while relentlessly standing up for our own needs and asking for exactly what we want from the people who are closest to us. That means becoming a tiny bit shameless, I should add. It took a shameless amount of assertiveness and belief in my own particular sensitivities as a seismograph to ask my husband to behave as if he, too, were a seismograph. I had to get very specific. I also had to let go of the need to be right and seem rational. I had to own my role as the Chicken Little of the family.
“Pretend the sky is falling with me,” I told my husband, and he did. It was an act of love and solidarity. I was so grateful for it. It kept us glued together at a vulnerable time, when we could’ve fallen apart for good. I didn’t have to hate myself for being a chickenshit or a seismograph. I could relax because someone was on my side.
That story probably feels pretty divorced from your circumstances, but it’s not. For you to feel comfortable safeguarding yourself while also refusing to fixate on the millions of horrible outcomes that could befall you specifically and all of us generally, you need to stand up for the particulars of your mental health. You need to look closely at your specific emotional challenges as a human being, and you need to say: This is how it feels for me. I feel like I want to find an exit. I feel like I can’t survive this. I feel like I am not strong enough.
Here’s the suicide hotline for anyone who’s been feeling that way: 1-800-273-8255. Commit to reaching out to someone when you’re feeling bad. Everyone is struggling right now. We’re all in the same boat at some level. It’s important to understand that moments of extreme darkness will come and go, and things could get a million times worse and still be survivable. Put your faith in human connection: It makes all the difference.
If you have close friends or a partner or a family member who can listen to you describe your very specific Chicken Little–flavored needs and desires and align themselves with you, and show solidarity for your (sometimes irrational!) experiences of what this moment means, then call that person or those people. Open up to them, and explain your needs, and get them to understand.
But let’s be clear: Finding people who will join you where you are is very, very hard. It’s hard for all of us, always. If it feels impossible? Guess what? You’re not alone. Try your best. And if/when that fails, I want you to write everything down for you, until you clearly comprehend who you are and where you are and how you’re feeling right now.
This is not about descending into darkness in any permanent way, mind you. This is simply about painting a picture that someone else might understand, a persuasive portrait of how you’re experiencing this moment. This is you saying to yourself: YOU ARE HOLDING MY LIVER OVER A BOILING POT OF WATER. This is you crying and telling yourself: I DON’T KNOW IF I CAN DO THIS. DO YOU FUCKING GET THAT?
This is you making your needs crystal clear. This is you standing up for who you are, without shame. Does that really matter, all alone in your apartment as the world crumbles around you? YES, IT DOES.
This is you saying: I deserve to have my needs met. Think about all of the times you were treated like your needs were irrational, like you needed to calm down and shut the fuck up, like you needed to stop being so in the way, so inconvenient, so absurd, so laughable, such a wreck. I’ll bet you can think of a lot of examples.
Use this moment to get your own back. Take this opportunity to say to yourself: I don’t fucking care if I’m fragile and irrational. I’m going to honor my needs without shame.
Don’t skip this step, even if it seems beside the point. Honor your needs, without shame. That’s number one.
Number two is: Protect yourself. Take very good care of yourself. Feed yourself well, exercise, get plenty of rest. Stay aware of the threats so you can do your best to avoid those threats. Put energy into making yourself feel as healthy and resilient as possible.
Number three is: Resolve not to fixate on the millions of terrifying possibilities you cannot control. You can make this choice now because your peculiar needs matter. Remember? You’re honoring your needs without shame now. One of your needs is this: Avoiding the terror here. You said it to me for a reason: You aren’t strong enough to hold these terrors inside your head for 18 months. So don’t do it.
Are you strong enough to survive for 18 months in isolation? Yes, you are. You’re strong enough as long as you’re honoring even your most irrational needs without shame, being very safe and careful in areas that are within your control, and letting go of all of the circumstances beyond your control, as in banishing them from your fucking head permanently.
Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (Read it if bleakness makes you feel stronger. If not? DO NOT READ.) is about a man who’s struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. As the man and his son travel south toward the ocean, looking for food and shelter, the man tries hard to avoid big questions and unknowns that might threaten his ability to survive. Because he has a boy to take care of, he becomes extremely practical. He protects his boy and he keeps moving forward, no matter what. There’s a sense of calm beauty underneath the horror of every word McCarthy writes. Showing up for whatever comes next is beautiful. You don’t have to be a hero. You just keep moving.
I probably wouldn’t have sat my husband down and insisted that my irrational view was going to need to be honored, back when we first had a baby together, if I weren’t convinced that our ability to raise a baby and stay together depended on it. It took something bigger than myself to force me to finally stand up for my very specific needs and persuade another, very skeptical human being to hear me out and get my back.
Today, you’ve been faced with a challenge that’s much bigger than any challenge you’ve faced before. The stakes are high. This enormous calamity dwarfs you and exists outside your thoughts and feelings completely. You have to treat yourself with extreme care under these conditions. This is an opportunity for you to finally stand up for what you need at every level, in a very concentrated and intense way that is fully justifiable and concrete. This is a chance for you to design a map that you can use to navigate this disaster and every other disaster to follow this one, guided by your very irrational, specific desires. This is your time to learn to blot out the parts of the world that are just too gigantic and out of your control for you to metabolize, and focus on what you can actually control and have influence over instead. You have to avoid big questions and keep moving forward. You’re about to achieve a sense of mastery over your life and your understanding of yourself, while letting go of what you can’t control in a permanent way. These high stakes are a blessing disguised as a curse. Take this blessing.
What sustains you? What can you create, every day, to bring you life, to build up your strength? What beauty is lurking underneath these terrors? As Ranier Maria Rilke wrote, “No feeling is final.”
The path before you is simple. You wake up in the morning and you put Chopin: Nocturnes in your headphones and you look for joy. You embrace every tiny glint of beauty and every scrap of hope hiding in this small, enclosed life. You surrender to the reality of this “borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it,” as Cormac McCarthy put it. You eat this divine silence, this dark longing, this lonely sweetness, this solitary dread. You sit in your quiet garden and welcome the weather, good or bad. No feeling is final. You are strong enough.

café hopping is a productive past time
In between battling Gym Leaders for their badges and training her team with that single minded focus she could apply to anything (languages, reading the tells of opponents, Pokémon battling, saving the goddamn world because no one else was doing anything-!), Nixie finds herself exploring the café scene of Galar.
The Battle Café is the largest chain, at least according to several articles on the best places to eat in the region, and she can see why it's so popular, even if the overabundance of sugary sweet and milk chocolate confections clashes with her preference of harsh sour and dark chocolate.
She still pops in, every once in a while, to battle the Café Master and see if there's anything on the menu other than a cup of black coffee that piques her interest (there never is).
She takes to exploring every town and city she winds up in, combing them from left to right and marking out cafés she likes the look of for further investigation. Sometimes her Pokémon join her, Drizzile especially develops a taste for café hopping, but most of the time she's alone. She debates dragging Hop along, always when they meet up and battle, but never asks, content to let him chase his dream of being Champion, of defeating his undefeatable older brother. She doesn't tell him she now shares that dream, at least slightly, even if it's for completely different reasons.
(In the end, this love of café hopping was the catalyst towards a friendship forming between her and him, the undefeatable Champion; an unstoppable force and an immovable object, but she'd never say that)
It's a pitstop, really. She'd had a craving for something just verging on the edge of sweet, but still with plenty of bite to it. Dark chocolate was her answer.
This café was the closest one she'd found that could properly satisfy it, along with her seemingly never ending craving for good coffee. The fact it isn't that far from the Budew Drop Inn is a bonus; she does have a Gym Challenge to beat in the morning after all.
Drizzile is out of his ball and sat across from her, content with his plate of Pecha Berry cheesecake. For a moment, Nixie marvels at his ability to eat anything, regardless of whether it was spicy or sweet, sour or bitter, in large quantities.
She takes a sip from her cup of coffee and considers her empty plate for a brief second, pondering the idea of getting something else, before she returns to people watching.
Most of the people that pass aren't taking part in the Gym Challenge, but the ones she does recognize, she knows by their hair colour.
She takes another sip.
There's someone with purple hair across the street, their back is turned towards her. Someone people seem to be moving around and glancing back at with respect and awe in their eyes, someone with purple hair and a black cap and an ostentatious red ca-
She blinks.
Oh.
Oh.
Her eyes aren't playing tricks on her. That is definitely Leon, looking slightly lost even without his (rather expressive, all things considered) face turned towards her.
She glances at her partner. He looks back at her, plate empty of his sweet treat. Her eyes flick to his Pokéball, placed in the middle of the table, for a fraction of a second. He nods, a barely there thing, and she presses the button to return him.
Nixie turns back to the man across the street. She wonders if, maybe, she should call out to him. He does look lost and she knows he has a terrible sense of direction, although everyone probably knows that, but there is the slight issue of them not really having much of a connection aside from Hop.
She doesn't have to decide, which is honestly a small blessing, because he turns around and spots her. His eyes widen for a moment before he smiles, a bright thing that blurs the line between real and performance.
He crosses the street with ease, thanks partially to the fact that crowds seem to part when he walks through, and also because the number of people on this particular street had been steadily dwindling as the sky darkened.
She doesn't try to stop her mouth from quirking up at the corners into a small smile. He had that air, she supposes, that could get people smiling and laughing with him.
"Nixie! How's it going?" He comes to a stop beside her table.
"Oh, you know. It's going. Training does tend to make time fly," her expression is amused and she knows it, tapping the top of Drizzile's Poké Ball with her pointer finger.
He laughs and nods in agreement, smile turning amused. "Dont push yourself, or your team, too hard."
Laughter, quiet and unexpected, leaves her in a small burst. Tilting her head to the side, she gives him a lopsided smile, a confident gleam in her eyes.
"This aint my first journey, ya know. I know my limits, know just how far to push them, and I'm learning my team's limits as well."
"Still... take care," Leon shakes his head at her, but his smile is a little more real, a little less fake.
"Will do, Champion," she gives him a two fingered salute and takes another sip of her coffee. "You can sit down if you want, you know."
"You don't have someone with you?" he raises an eyebrow, looking at the other plate.
"Drizzile has developed a taste for cheesecake," Nixie replies simply, "I let him join me sometimes. He gets food, I get company. You can sit."
"Yes, ma'am," his smile is definitely a teasing one now, and she shoots him a glare for calling her "ma'am", but he sits down.
They're quiet for a minute. Nixie takes another sip from her coffee that has long been cold by  this point and Leon looks at her like he's trying to figure something out. She wonders if he knows about Sinnoh and Kalos and what happened there, if he's trying to figure out whether it's something he can bring up.
'He probably could,' she thinks. She'll need to talk about it eventually. Sooner rather than later.
"So what's it like, travelling through Galar after Kalos?"
She recalls telling Hop that she'd lived in Kalos before moving to Galar, so she guesses he figured out which order she'd travelled through regions in from that.
Nixie ponders the question, pursing her lips and frowning slightly.
"Colder," she decides finally. "Reminds me of Sinnoh, even if it's slightly warmer here. Did ya know that roller skating is the big way to get around Kalos? Couldn't do that here."
Their conversation after revolves around him asking her questions about her previous journeys, giving no hint as to whether he'd figured out what she'd done whilst there, and her responding in kind, asking him about his own journey.
"What is this? Twenty questions?" her voice is amused, head tilted to the side, and she smiles.
"It could be," Leon shrugs, amusement clear in his voice, in his smile, in his eyes. "I'd like to get to know you outside of what Hop tells me."
Nixie blinks. Once, twice, three times. Okay then.
"Yeah, sure," she shrugs, taps the side of her empty cup. "Why not?"
"I'll go first. Favourite pokemon?"
"Oooh, tough call," there's a spark of amusement, of fondness, in her eyes as she talks, "I guess I'd have to say Florges. The one I travelled with during my Kalos journey was a character, but she could get the job done when it was needed. Couldn't resist stopping to garden whenever I passed flowers with her out of her Poké Ball."
"Is that your favourite type then? Fairy?" Leon hears the fondness in her voice and understands why Hop came to be close with her so quickly, if she cared about all her Pokémon like that.
"That's two questions you've asked me, you know. You're supposed to ask one" Nixie points out, smiling. "If you get to ask two questions, so do I."
"That's fair," he nods his head.
"But, to answer your question, no. Fairy types aren't my favourite, Water types are."
"I should've guessed," his voice is dry, but he's smiling. "After all, there did seem to be more Water types then any other in your lineup that day."
She pouts at him for a moment before shrugging.
"I guess I've never felt drawn to as many Pokémon of types like Fire as I have Water. Houndoom's really the only Fire type I've considered training, and he was a darling during Sinnoh, but aside from him? I have more want to train Fairy types."
She doesn't tell him why she uses Fairy types as an example instead of, say, Electric types. It's still a little too raw, especially with the dreams of Xerneas and the mushroom forest (Glimwood Tangle. She knows what it's called now, after one particular late night search of the internet. She doesn't know why she dreams of it, but she assumes it's Xerneas' doing)
"'Only Fire type'? You mean you've never thought about training a Charizard?" he's teasing her and she knows it, the mischievous look in his eyes clear to see.
"Well," she drawls out the word, resting her elbow on the table and leaning her chin on the palm of her hand, "seeing your Charizard and how well you work together did prompt some consideration of whether training one would be worthwhile."
"Did it now?"
"Mmm hmm," she hums, a mischievous look of her own in her eyes, "I might put more thought into it after I've finished the Gym Challenge but, for now, I have two questions of my own for you."
"I'll hold you to that," he winks at her and laughs. "Shoot."
"What is your favourite Pokémon type?"
"Using the same questions as me now?" he raises an eyebrow, "is that allowed?"
"You asked two questions instead of one, I'll ask a question you asked. Seems like a fair deal," Nixie points out, smirking at the man.
"...Alright," he concedes, "I don't really have one favourite type overall but, if pushed, I'd have to say Dragon."
"That checks out, what with your partner looking like a Dragon type."
He rolls his eyes at her, smiling all the while, and stands.
"It's been nice, talking to you, Nixie, but Champion duty calls. We'll continue our game later."
"I'd hate for you to be to late because you got lost and didn't have enough time to find your way," she replies dryly, but she smiles. "Thanks for the company, Leon."
She watches him go and muses, quietly, to herself that talking him had indeed made the time go by much quicker.
Better head back to the hotel, at any rate.
Things to do in the morning. Lots of things to do.

May Reading Wrap Up
I'm actually really proud of myself. I finished 13 books last month. Spent a lot of extra time away from screens and focusing on my mental health so I burned through way more than I normally would. So anyways, here's my reviews. - Also please understand that these are just my opinions and if I shit on your favorite book I'm sorry that I didn't enjoy it as much as you. Also, also Im terrible with character names.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor ⭐⭐⭐
I actually started this book at the end of April but didn't finish it til May 1st so whatever, here it is. This books is a YA urban fantasy novel about a girl with a double life. She spends half her days studying art in Europe and the other half running errands for a tooth collecting wish monger. I don't want to say a whole lot more because I dont want to spoil anything important about the plot. So, I'll try to be vague. Let me start by saying this story is amazing. I loved the writing and the world. I rated it so low solely because I can't stand the two main characters and it really dragged down what would have otherwise been an amazing novel. So yeah, great book but its a preference thing. Also took points off for the insta-love but not really insta-love shit. Idk. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this read even a month later. Gonna read the second to see if maybe my hatred of the two mains was just a fluke.

Spellbound by Rachel Hawkins
⭐⭐⭐
This is the third book in the Hex Hall trilogy. Not much to say about it. It was a meh ending to an overall pretty good series. 3/5 stars. Moving on.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
⭐⭐⭐
Realizing now how many of my reads this month were pretty middle of the world. Hopefully next month will be filled with 4 and 5 stars. Anyways, this book was honestly a struggle for me to finish and Im not sure why. It's a YA mystery magical realism story about a tiny coastal town that is cursed by the spirits of 3 sisters who were suspected of witchcraft and drowned 2 centuries prior. Because of this, every year the sisters return from the sea to take the lives of teenage boys by luring them to the sea. We follow the life of kind of meh and standard YA girl #1. She meets a strange non tourist boy and hires him to work in the lighthouse her family owns. Her dad randomly disappeared years ago and her mom is a loon. So yeah... I dont know. I kind of felt like this story was hot garbage in places. I usually dont have any trouble with the suspense of disbelief in magical realism stories but this one just had too many plot holes. Like, I get morbid stuff becomes tourist attractions but why wouldn't someone have stepped in and evacuated the town if at least 3 teenage boys die there EVERY SINGLE YEAR without fail? I honestly feel like the FBI or some other government agency would have cleared the place out after the first 20 or so deaths. There was also the whole MC can see the ghosts of the girls possessing people but chooses not to tell anyone? Like, I get it. You dont want people to label you a freak or think you're crazy but come the fuck on. You live in a tourist trap where people flock to watch local teenage males wash up on shore and you really think the authorities arent going to take you up on the help? It wasn't an awful book by any means. It was well written and extremely descriptive. Just had major beef with some of the details. Anyways, I wont say much more so I don't spoil the whole book.
3/5 Stars
An Enchantment of Ravens by Maragret Rogerson
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Finally, I get to talk about one of my favorite reads of the month. I love anything to do with the Fae in my YAfiction and this was literally everything I wanted in a Fae novel. It takes place in a town called Whimsy, a humanish town in the world of Faerie. The fae cannot do any Craft, or what we would consider craftsmanship. Art and humans who can do it well are very precious in this world because the Fae can't ever do it themselves. We follow the adventures of a girl who has been commisioned to paint the portrait of the Autumn King and the chaos that ensues. Let me just start by saying this is one of those insta-love situations where I feel like it's genuinely ok. I might be making excuses because I loved the title so much but whatever. It's explained and I accept it. Also, I realize that Gadfly had a lovely description but my brain willl not let me picture him as anything but Mr.Waternoose from Monsters Inc.
5/5 Stars
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
⭐⭐⭐
This book started out so good and went downhill very quickly. It follows the story of these two magicians who were fated by their Master's to one day fight to the death. There were so many things I loved about this book only for the last 100 pages to just take a firey dump on my face. I loved the setting and the majority of the characters. The supporting characters were so deep and interesting that I almost cared more about them than I did Ceilia and Marko (Im proabably wrong and I dont feel like googling but I think that was his name) . I don't know. I don't want to complain about anymore meh books.

Matched by Allie Condie
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Went into this book expecting to hate it. I usually don't like contemporary love stories but this had major City of Ember meets The Giver vibes and it just appealed to that 14 year old girl in me again. That seems to happen with a lot of dystopian utopia stories. Anyways, story is about a girl who lives in this town where when you hit a certain age you are brought to a place and told who the government has chosen for you to marry. She is matched with her life long best friend and all is well. Except that her little Get To Know Your New Husband microship thing showed her two guys instead of just one. And lots of bullshit ensues. I honestly think I rated this so high because I enjoy the world and not so much whats actually happening to the kids. Like, I loved the idea that art is harmful so the government chose 100 acceptable pieces and thats all these people know. I loved the brutality of the government in general. I can't say much more without spoiling some of the twists but geez did it have me hooked. I'm going to be started the second one soonish, though my TBR for June has gotten intense so we will see.
4/5 stars
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I cannot say enough good things about this book. It is so fucking good! Not going to rant about it or anything because y'all just need to go read it immediately.
5/5 stars
Would give it every star in the sky if Im being completely honest.
Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh
⭐⭐
Got sucked into this book by the cover and honestly that was the best part of this book. Its about this world where necromancy is pretty highly regarded and used to resurrect the royals after they die. The only downside is that if a living person ever lays eyes on the resurrected person's skin then they turn into these horrible monsters. Maybe it's just me but like that absolutely does not seem worth the risk. Plus, in order to bring the person back, these reapers have to go into the death world and bring the spirit back. And it's HELLA DANGEROUS. So like, WHY? Anyways, there is this stupid underlying love story that I absolutely wasn't invested in. This just all around was not a good book.
2/5 stars
Monster High by Lisi Harrison
⭐⭐
Little known fact~ I'm obsessed with Monster High and Ever After High. So yeah, I realize this wasn't targeted to me as an adult but even going into it with an open mind I was disappointed. Granted I didn't read the description of the book prior. I just saw this franchise I love and grabbed it. First, if you are a fan of the mini series and the movies do not read this. It doesnt follow the cinematic canon and I think that was my biggest problem with it. Frankie's character was all wrong and I hated the whole"Normy" cast. Was really excited for these but I definitely won't be continuing the series. I don't even want to torture myself with seeing how they manage to ruin my sweet baby Draculara.
2/5 stars
Unhinged by AG Howard
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I can't say enough good things about this series. This is the second book in the trilogy and it was a fanatstic bridge book. It had me engrossed through the entire audiobook. Morpheus is still everything. If you loved Splintered I would highly reccomend continuing.
5/5 stars
Truthwitch
⭐⭐
Have had this on my TBR for a while because of how many Booktubers have hyped the series. Buy, was I disappointed. I was soooooooooo bored. Maybe it's because I don't really enjoy this type of fantasy or maybe it was just the slower paced story but I just slugged through this book. Both of the main female characters were bland to me and I didn't care about their friendship. The world was cool but not enough to keep me invested. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
2/5 stars
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
⭐⭐⭐
Picked this up because of how much I loved The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and it didn't meet my expectations. It follows this girl who works for a paranormal gorvenment group. She has a special ability that makes her really useful to them so they are trying to groom her basically. They capture this changeling and she befriends him and there is an overarching plot that I just didn't get invested in. The friendship between the two main characters was pretty much the only thing that I enjoyed in this title. The mother figure was insufferable and I just didn't really understand the whole org that they worked for in general. Not an awful book but not fantastic.
Solid 3/5 stars.
The Siren by Kiera Cass
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Going to preface this by saying I might be biased. I love Kiera Cass and have enjoyed almost everything she has written. That said, this wasn't nearly as good as The Selection series but it was a pretty good stand alone novel. It about a girl who becomes a siren on her deathbed and spends the next 100 years serving the sea by luring people to their deaths. After doing this for 70 years, she falls in love and pretty much ruins everything. Loved the characters, especially the male lead. The insta love was a little pet peeve of mine but the love interest was so sweet and genuine that I was willing to overlook it. Pretty good read if you dig supernatural romance.
4/5 stars
June holds the Ghibli-a-thon but also lots of holidays for my family so we will see how much I actually get read. So far my tentative TBR is 5 books but we will see where the days take me.

Trump Wants To ‘repeal And Replace’ The Affordable Care Act Quickly
Republicans withdraw bill to replace Obamacare
Following the Republican playbook, Donald Trump promised as president to repeal the Affordable Care Act and to replace it with something that emphasizes free market principles.
“Real change begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as Obamacare,” Trump said at a Nov. 7, 2016, rally in Michigan.
Currently, 20 million people have health insurance under President Barack Obama’s signature law, and the uninsured rate is below 9 percent, a record low. Repealing and replacing Obamacare would require lawmakers to figure out whether they will cover those people, and if so, how.
WHY HE’S PROMISING IT
The Affordable Care Act isn’t popular. Polling conducted in 2016 shows that Americans are divided on the law.
And the law has some problems. Despite provisions aimed at curbing rising health care costs, premiums for plans on HealthCare.gov are expected to go up an average of 22 percent in 2017. Insurance companies have pulled out of the marketplaces in 29 states.
HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST
Trump has several policy ideas for what the health care law replacement should include. He suggests allowing providers to sell insurance across state lines, making it so individuals could deduct premium payments from their tax returns and requiring price transparency from health care providers. He also proposes block-granting Medicaid to the states and encouraging health savings accounts.
WHAT’S STANDING IN HIS WAY
Why Is It So Controversial
There around 20 million additional Americans who now have health insurance under the law.
But the programme has been rocked by premium hikes – which were a problem before Obamacare – and a trio of national insurers abandoning the online marketplaces.
Its individual mandate is unpopular because many uninsured Americans who end up paying tax penalties are low-to-moderate income workers juggling rent, car payments or student loans.
But the law is popular, too, because it bans insurance companies from denying health coverage to people with pre-existing health conditions and allows young people to remain on their parents’ plans until age 26.
Obamacare has also defied Republican predictions that it would bloat government expenditure – the Congressional Budget Office said in 2015 that repealing Obamacare outright would increase the federal budget deficit by $137bn by 2025.
Trumps Promise To Repeal Obamacare Is Now In Limbo
President Donald Trump expressed disappointment after Republican lawmakers’ failure to muster enough votes to repeal Obamacare placed one of his loftiest campaign promises in limbo.
A series of defections by Senate Republicans scuttled two separate efforts to dismantle the sweeping U.S. health care law put in place by Trump’s predecessor, President Barack Obama.
“We’ve had a lot of victories, but we haven’t had a victory on health care,” Trump told reporters July 18, as it became clear the latest Republican legislative efforts would fail. “We’re disappointed.”
A slim margin of error constrained GOP efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare and forced a delicate balancing act between the party’s conservative and moderate members.
But defections by Sens. Jerry Moran of Kansas and Mike Lee of Utah on July 17 brought to four the number of Republican senators to publicly oppose the bill , effectively killing the repeal-and-replace plan. Senate leadership could only afford to lose two Republican votes for passage.
Senate Republicans then turned their attention to a measure that would repeal major parts of Obamacare over two years, in theory buying lawmakers enough time to agree on a replacement plan before the Affordable Care Act, often called Obamacare, was largely dismantled.
“I did not come to Washington to hurt people,” Capito said in a statement. “I cannot vote to repeal Obamacare without a replacement plan that addresses my concerns and the needs of West Virginians.”

Vaccines Mandates And Backlash: The Long Us History
After nearly 10 years as law, a flat-out repeal would deprive 20 million people of insurance, roll back Medicaid expansion, prevent young adults from piggybacking on their parents plans, and end protections for people with preexisting conditions, among other things. Over time, the law has become more popular, not less. It has flaws that need fixing, says Mr. Hoagland, but the idea of doing away with it absent an alternative is terribly unthoughtful and politically inept, he adds.
The Justice Departments move and the presidents plan pronouncement dropped from the sky like a tornado, surprising Republicans on Capitol Hill who have pointedly avoided any replay of the party division and defeat over Obamacare. It also came during a week in which the administration lost two court cases attempting to change the Affordable Care Act; coverage. On Wednesday, a federal judge blocked the introduction of new work requirements for Medicaid recipients in Arkansas and Kentucky, ruling that the changes undermined the purpose of the program to provide health care for low-income Americans. On Thursday, another federal judge called a plan for;small-business health insurance an end run around consumer protections provided by the ACA.
But the president lays great worth on fulfilling his campaign promises, and repealing Obamacare has been left undone. At the same time, he told Senate Republicans that he wants to get the upper hand on health care as the 2020 presidential campaigning begins.
The Real Reason Republicans Couldnt Kill Obamacare
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Democrats did the work, Republicans didntand that says a lot about the two parties.
Adapted from The Ten Year War: Obamacare and the Unfinished Crusade for Universal Coverage, St. Martins Press 2021.
The Affordable Care Act, the health-care law also known as Obamacare, turns 11 years old this week. Somehow, the program has not merely survived the GOPs decade-long assault. Its actually getting stronger, thanks to some major upgrades tucked in the COVID-19 relief package that President Joe Biden signed into law earlier this month.
The new provisions should enable millions of Americans to get insurance or save money on coverage they already purchase, bolstering the health-care law in precisely the way its architects had always hoped to do. And although the measures are temporary, Biden and his Democratic Party allies have pledged to pass more legislation making the changes permanent.
The expansion measures are a remarkable achievement, all the more so because Obamacares very survival seemed so improbable just a few years ago, when Donald Trump won the presidency. Wiping the law off the books had become the Republicans defining cause, and Trump had pledged to make repeal his first priority. As the reality of his victory set in, almost everybody outside the Obama White House thought the effort would succeed, and almost everybody inside did too.
That was no small thing, as Republicans were about to discover.

Back To The Future: Trumps History Of Promising A Health Plan That Never Comes
Ever since he was a presidential candidate, President Donald Trump has been promising the American people a terrific, phenomenal and fantastic new health care plan to replace the Affordable Care Act.
But, in the 3½ years since he set up shop in the Oval Office, he has yet to deliver.
In his early days on the campaign trail, circa 2015, he said on CNN he would repeal Obamacare and replace it with something terrific, and on Sean Hannitys radio show he said the replacement would be something great. Fast-forward to 2020. Trump has promised an Obamacare replacement plan five times so far this year. And the plan is always said to be just a few weeks away.
Republicans Offer A Plan To Replace Obamacare
The House GOPs health-care proposal would expand savings accounts, provide tax credits for buying insurance, and allow people to purchase coverage across state lines. Just dont ask how much it costs.
That Republicans have failed to offer a single, comprehensive replacement bill for Obamacare has become a running joke in Washington over the last several years: They voted to repeal the lawin whole or in partdozens of times, yet theyve never kept their many pledges to replace it.
Contrary to the common criticism from Democrats, however, the GOPs failure to back up its talk with action hasnt stemmed from a lack of ideas. Republicans have plenty of ideas for how to overhaul the health-care systemtheyve just never been able to agree on enough of them to pass a plan through Congress.
On Wednesday, party leaders will try again, by unveiling a proposal that, for the first time, represents a consensus position of the House Republican conference over how the nations health-care laws should work if the GOP ever succeeds in repealing the Affordable Care Act. The long-awaited proposal doesnt pick sides in the intra-party debate over health policy so much as it tries to piece together a hodgepodge of ideas that have circulated among conservative think tanks and campaign platforms for more than a decade, including those offered by John McCain in 2008, Mitt Romney in 2012, and several candidates who ran this year.

The Impressive New Obamacare Replace Plan From Republicans Burr Hatch And Upton
One year ago, three Republican senators permanently changed the Obamacare debate by publishing Congress most credible plan yet to repeal and replace the health law. They called it the Patient Choice, Affordability, Responsibility, and Empowerment Act, or Patient CARE. Last night, they published a new and improved version of their proposal, one that continues to be a model GOP health-reform plan. It could have an impact on how the Supreme Court opines in its upcoming Obamacare case, King v. Burwell.
A plan authored by leading Republican lawmakers
The first version of the Patient CARE Act was co-authored by Senators Tom Coburn , Richard Burr , and Orrin Hatch . Coburn retired in December, and so Burr and Hatch added Rep. Fred Upton , Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
E&C, as its called, is one of the two principal House committees on health care issues. Now that Republicans have retaken the Senate, Orrin Hatch is Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, another key health care body. Hence, the Patient CARE Act is not merely a plan put forth by random Republicans, but by key lawmakers who run two of the most important health care committees in Congress.

Timeline Of Aca Repeal And Replace Efforts
US: Republicans make gains to replace Obamacare
Federal policy on healthcare, 2017-2020
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, was passed by Congress along party lines on March 21, 2010, and signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The Senate passed the ACA by a vote of 60-39 with no Republican support on December 24, 2009. The House passed the bill by a vote of 219-212 on March 21, 2010. Thirty-four House Democrats voted against the bill with all House Republicans.
What is the ACA or Obamacare?
Since the bill became law, Republicans have been trying to repeal and replace the ACA. In 2016, with control of the Senate and House, Republicans passed the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act of 2015. The bill would have repealed several parts of the ACA, but it was vetoed by President Barack Obama on January 8, 2016. Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. were the only Republicans who voted against the bill.
In 2016, Republicans and President Donald Trump campaigned on repealing and replacing the ACA. After winning control of the presidency, Senate, and House, in the 2016 elections, Republicans have attempted on multiple occasions to repeal and replace the ACA, but, as of September 27, 2017, they had been unsuccessful. Below is a timeline of the 2017 efforts to repeal and replace the ACA.

Mcconnell Says Gop Will Quickly Repeal Obamacare
Mitch McConnell talks about Obamacare on Wednesday.
Replacement is the far tougher task. The replacement plan is likely to be brand new, using principles laid out in Ryans better way agenda as a guide, sources said. Republicans have largely coalesced around Ryans plan, but there are still outstanding and controversial policy details to be ironed out, such as how or if people should get assistance to buy insurance.
Senate Republicans are talking about avoiding a massive bill and moving the replacement legislation in chunks: One that tackles purchasing insurance over state lines; another that deals with pre-existing conditions; another establishing new insurance plans for small businesses. That would take a long time and could bog down the process, but GOP leaders are eager to avoid the appearance of jamming a huge bill through Congress after criticizing Democrats for doing the same.

Were not going to pass another 2000-page bill like the Democrats have, Cornyn said. The way to realistically address this is to go step by step, to build consensus, get 60 votes and pass those various pieces.
Democratic Sen. Patty Murray says of GOP plans to repeal and replace Obamacare: They break it, they buy it. | AP Photo
The blame will fall on the people who didnt want to do anything, McCarthy said, foreshadowing a likely GOP talking point should Democrats block a replacement plan.
Jennifer Haberkorn contributed to this report.
Eliminating Health Care Penalties
The Affordable care Act, required most Americans to be enrolled in Health Insurance since it was made affordable, otherwise a penalty would be induced. Effective 2017, congress attempted to eliminate financial penalties that were related to complying with the mandated law that every individual needs to be enrolled in Health insurance, this law however did not become effective until 2019. This policy is still valid, the penalty for having no health insurance was reduced to 0$. Individual mandates effects the decisions made by individuals regarding healthcare in that some people will not enroll since health insurance plans are no longer mandatory.
On March of 2020, the nation has undergone a global pandemic, however, several Republican-led states and the Justice Department are making the case for invalidating the ACA. This will cause at least 60 million people to not be able to afford being hospitalized, or treated which increased the number of COVID-19 cases nationwide.

What Will Trump Administration Do To Replace Obamacare
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the health insurance industrys trade association, American Health Insurance Plans, or AHIP, have separately gone on the offensive to ensure that a $100 billion tax on the health insurance industry is included in any repeal.
AHIP President Marilyn Tavenner wrote and op-ed outlining their demands, including a repeal of the tax. The Chamber released a robust print and digital advertising effort Tuesday on the issue and are also pressuring Congress to repeal the unpopular medical devise tax and the Cadillac tax on expensive and expansive health plans.
We dont want to run any risk that someone looks at the health insurance tax or the Cadillac tax and says, those dont take effect until 2018 and 2020, we can deal them later, said Blair Holmes, spokeswoman for the Chamber of Commerce.

Finally, the scope of repeal is causing tension among Republicans. Republicans in the House, backed by the conservative Heritage Foundation, say that repeal can include more than just the financial components that pay for the Affordable Care Act, bucking Senate Republicans who say that Senate rules will block any effort that goes beyond taxes and revenues. It’s a delicate line that can’t be crossed.
Daniel Holler, vice president of communications at Heritage Action, argues that repeal can be comprehensive.
Trump Signs Executive Order On Obamacare; Impact Unclear
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On his first day in office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that gave federal agencies broad authority to defer or delay any part of the Affordable Care Act that costs anybody any money.
More formally, the order tells agencies they can “waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay the implementation of any provision or requirement of the Act that would impose a fiscal burden on any State or a cost, fee, tax, penalty, or regulatory burden on individuals, families, healthcare providers, health insurers, patients, recipients of healthcare services, purchasers of health insurance, or makers of medical devices, products, or medications.”
That’s a mouthful, but what does it mean, and how far does it go to repeal Obamacare?
Larry Levitt, senior vice-president at the respected and neutral Kaiser Family Foundation, said in a series of tweets that while the impacts are unclear, it shows the administration is “moving to unwind the Affordable Care Act, but it won’t be immediate.”;
Levitt added, “One sure outcome is it creates uncertainty for insurers at a critical time.”
Health care analyst Sabrina Corlette at Georgetown University echoed Levitt’s point.
“For insurers already uncertain about their future in the Affordable Care markets, the uncertainty this executive order generates doesn’t help,” Corlette said. “At a minimum they’ll have to factor it into their 2018 premiums, which are due to be filed by May 3 in most states.”
But that hasn’t happened yet.

Gridlock In House Stalls Trump’s Pledge To Repeal Obamacare
As a candidate for president, Donald Trump said that “real change begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as Obamacare.”
On March 24, the nation learned that it’s not happening immediately. And the road forward isn’t clear either.
Capping a frenzied week of negotiations between three House Republican factions — the party leadership, the hardline conservative House Freedom Caucus, and members of the more moderate, pragmatic wing of the party — House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., announced that he would not bring the American Health Care Act to the floor for a vote, as he had planned.
That March 24 announcement came one day after the floor vote had been pushed back to allow for last-minute changes and arm-twisting, and half a day after Trump had issued an ultimatum to House Republicans — pass the bill or he’ll move on.
In the run-up to Ryan’s announcement, vote counting by media outlets had concluded that the House GOP would lose too many votes to pass the bill if it tried.
“We came really close today, but we came up short,” Ryan said at a press conference. “I will not sugarcoat this. This was a disappointing day for us.”
For members on the party’s right flank, the American Health Care Act left in place too much of the infrastructure of the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama’s signature health care law and the target of intense Republican opposition for seven years.

Here have some angst
Ya asked for it XP,
—-
(Warning: this content, has detailed gore and character death)
You have been warned)
Running, running was all she knew. She heard those screamed, those terrible horriying screams that begged her to run. She didnt hesitate, not at all. But those things still flooded her mind
//flashback//
Gun pointed at the abandoned warehouse, in a open field, Carlos her dear brother signalled her it was safe “dont worry i think its clear, non of those weird things crawling around like they exited hell” Carlos stated making her giggled. His face soften as he smiled.
They set out camp inside, it wasnt safe but they knew they cant last any longer without sleep to keep their energy fueled, no mather how many times andrenaline pump through their vains, she was on guard duty this time as her brother got sleep.
One thing for sure she wasnt doing a good job doing so,
Dazed from not sleeping she didnt notice those things…those animals just in front of her, its sharp teeth dripping with fresh blood certainly coming from a kill they munched their greedy little mouth with, she screamed. Paralyzed with fear and pain when the beast bit her arm, its greedy teeth digging though her musles. Her sleeves covered in her own blood, her screams not only alerted the other beast but also awakend her brother, rushing in shooting the beast
Helping her up, “shit” was all that carlos muttered as they were ready to make a run for it, but that wasnt possible if two more of those monsters are up their tail, their laughs echo around as they ran, finally carlos stopped ordering her to go the other way, in fear and also the determination to survive she followed only to turn her head back seeing the beasts eat her brother, his blood laid just near him as his arm was ripped,
His screams oh his screams were a horror to her but melodies to the hungry monsters, their hungry eyes glisten with murderous intent as they dug in yet again at the captured pray, her brother wont stop screaming looking at the sky screaming her name “RUN CHARLOTTE RUN” , his guts laying around already as his voice were strangled as he chocked on his own blood, she looked away finally
//end of flashback//
Charlotte knew, she knew the monsters were high on her tail, she knew that they finished eating her brother,
Now she was strapped a pistol on her hand with what only a few bullets but not enough to kill TWO of those huge beast that pretty much towers over her, as they were in front of her she had to where to go, dead end. Game over, no more, no hope they monsters circle around like teasing her, one of the monsters had her brothers clothe between its teeth, it just made her stomach turn,
Looking shakely at the pistol, she took a deep breath as she lifted the pistol, the beast took a step forward expecting the gun to hit them, but instead she pointed the pistol at her head, her eyes dull and empty she had nothing left,
Everything was taken from her again, in ONE night all because she let her gaurd down, she sneered sending a bitter smile at the abnormal beasts, “You wont” she said as she pulled the trigger, the buller passing through her as she dropped dead,
Her blood escaped through her brain the monsters didnt mind as they feast on her fresh dead body, they didnt care

17 & 18 for the witchy ask???
Thank you for asking!17 -fave form of divination
I've only ever done tarot. I have notes from when I tried astrology, but my folks never recorded my birth time making my chart at best a guess; I have tried to learn the ogham, but haven't had the time to really focus and meditate on it clearly.
Tarot has always been part of my life, even before becoming a Proper Witch. My first deck was a Lord of the Rings tarot - I'm better at using it now, because I dont use it as a generic any more. I try and tap into Tolkien's worldsense - beautiful and sad, a clear sense of right and wrong, a straightforward compass of noble people and good acts. That makes the deck make more sense.
The tarot of my heart is the Thoth tarot created by Lady Frieda Harris and Crowley, but I can't make head or tails of it. Don't use it for divination. It needs to be used in the dark by candlelight, for big esoteric questions. The kind of deck where you can do a serious all-major-arcana reading.
My most-beloved is the traditional Smith-Waite deck, and I have the anniversary edition with the original colour images. If you want to get a trad deck, I strongly recommend you choose this one - Smiths artwork is so beautiful and powerful, and so often referenced thay they will already feel like old friends. I love this deck. It's like a Swiss army knife. It's great for daily introspection and guidance, but it can also punch hard when it needs to. Every card is so simple and yet has so much richness to explore.
I'm not planning to get more decks in future - even though I enjoy the artwork of many. I've got my tools, and I want to try and focus on understanding them more deeply rather than amassing more things. I also find many of the art tarots are beautiful but hollow. When I see a card, I want it to immediately impress upon me it's meaning through its choice of colours and layout. As much as I love ie Prisma Visions, all of the cards are the same. Smith and Harris do so much by just changing the background colours, or changing the colour of the sky to convey atmosphere. I don't get that from most modern art decks. I once made my ex cry, just by him drawing the Tower from the Crowley-Harris deck. Ex was not a mystic, nor an easily startled religious sort. It's just an immediately powerful card image, terrifying and apocalyptic.
I recommend to tarot learners the website learntarot.com by Joan Bunning. It's all online for free, but I loved it so much I also bought the book. My favourite cards are Strength, the Magician, and the 9 of Swords.
18 - Has anyone ever called you evil?
fortunately not. I have always been circumspect about who I share my beliefs with, and now I am more open i am almost 30, and capable of arranging my social circles so this doesn't happen.
it's always a background noise. When I was at school, one of my more religious school friends attempted to exorcise another. I still feel weird about thst whole thing. I didn't mention my religion at work. The kids next door who hang out on my porch will occasionally say, they don't do this or that because it's the symbol of the Evil One. Another friend refused to visit the Freemason museum as his family had been cursed by Freemasons, who made his grandad swear terrible oaths which attacked the whole family until it was lifted. I mean, I DO curses and that still sounds like horseshit to me.
I've been fortunate to never have anyone call me evil to my face, but I am frequently aware of the need to be silent or that things would change very abruptly if people did know about my being a witch. I think people tend to underestimate the level of social penalty that comes with disclosure, even if we are fortunate to no longer have legal barriers. I used to work with kids who would come up and tell me about Jesus. It's as legal for me to disclose my faith as it is for Muslim or Christian staffmembers to wear symbols of their faith - but in practice, you know. It pays to be careful. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a form of oppression - at least in the UK - although people are still murdered as witches in other places of the world, and I am fortunate that England is comparatively secular compared to say the US which has a strong Christian culture. I'm also some combo of l g b and t, so selectively concealing parts of my life comes naturally to me. It's definitely not the same level of shame and despair that being rejected or having to conceal my sexuality is. All the same, its never nice to have to hide parts of yourself from others - especially from friends. And while the two experiences aren't really comparable, I was comfortable disclosing my sexuality at work confident that my workplace at the wider world would support me if parents objected. I never felt that way about Paganism. There's a level of supernatural fear most people have at their core, and it's intense and powerful, bedrock deep - and ive always known you disturb that at your peril.
thank you for sending questions!

♦: Slow dancing
♦: Slow dancing from this prompt list. Would have done this earlier but I’ve been on mobile all day and dont trust writing on mobile.
Pairing: Sara/Vetra (because of course)
A bar on Kadara wasn’t exactly the best place for a date, even by Sara’s standards. It just didn’t exactly have the most romantic atmosphere, with a dagger stuck in between the grains of the bar’s counter and a week old blood splash dried, stubbornly clinging onto the wall by the table next to them.
Not that Sara could complain. It wasn’t as though they had come to Kadara for the purpose of a date or anything. No, in fact she, Vetra and Drack had originally come for another reason. Which then turned into another. And another. For some reason whenever they were on Kadara the second they finished one task another always seemed to crop up. You’d think people who managed to survive for so long without Nexus help wouldn’t be so quick to demand help from the pathfinder – but no. They were almost desperate for the help.
They’d spent the best part of three days traipsing around the place, going as far as they would physically allow themselves for some rather pointless reasons. Granted, it all helped the planet in the long run, but Sara was getting pretty fed up with the planet by now. Well, Sara was pretty tired anyway, but the bar still had her on alert and she was finding it hard to relax. At least, she thought, this is the better of Kadara’s two bars. Though honestly, that wasn’t saying much.
Drack had left her and Vetra to themselves after running into an old contact of his and the only people around right now were a few drunk Salarians and one Krogan. Essentially, this was the most time they’d had alone with one another in a while. There wasn’t much either could think to say now, words having been wasted throughout the rest of the day’s journey, and Sara was officially banned from drinking anything alcoholic while on Kadara. She didn’t need any more of those vids spreading around after all. So they just sat comfortably together, Vetra’s hand resting over Sara’s as she nursed her drink.
It was nice. Comfortable and familiar. The two hadn’t been an official item for all that long, yet they had already fallen into a routine. They had fallen into habits. They had already developed a blissful appreciation of the other. Vetra had a lot of respect for Sara and the problems she had overcome, and Sara, in turn, held respect for Vetra and how she’d raised Sid. When they were together like this, that respect, their adoration, it doubled. Tripled. Small stolen glances, a soft stroke against the back of Sara’s hand, and a gentle smile reminded them how much they cared and how much they’d been through to get to where they were now.
It was clear to Vetra that Sara was still stressed, however. Her girlfriend’s jaw held a stubborn clench and her clear blue eyes were darting around the bar as though something could pounce on them at any minute. “We should dance,” Vetra suggested as the idea came to her, placing the empty glass down on their table and clasping Sara’s hand completely within her own.
“We should not,” Sara countered, the memories of dancing in Kadara were not exactly a high point of her time in Kadara.
Still, Vetra persisted and pulled her to her feet and, despite the initial complaint, Sara quickly became compliant when she realised how close Vetra was to her.
The Turian wrapped an arm around her waist with a smooth action, liquid courage made her more confident than usual and allowed her to take the initiative. “The music doesn’t suit slow dancing,” Sara noted, though there was an excited gleam in her sky blue eyes and a loving smile playing at her lips that told Vetra she didn’t particularly mind.
Indeed, the fast paced techno pulse that beat through the bar like a small bird’s heart when staring down a wolf was not the ideal music for slow dancing, but Vetra hardly noticed. Sara was already the only thing worth her attention right now. “We’ve always moved to our own beat, anyway,” she murmured, sighing as Sara pulled herself in closer and – despite the initial struggle - wrapped her arms around her neck.
Resting her chin atop Sara’s head, Vetra began to sway first. Their armour abandoned in the Tempest - and with only one pistol resting in a holster on Sara’s belt - the two were overly exposed in the Port. But neither cared, for here swaying to music that was far too loud and faced paced to suit their dancing, everything paled and blurred around them.
Rather than the obnoxious tunes coming from the bar’s radio, their movements better matched Sara’s heart. A heart that fluttered gently at every soft brush of Vetra’s hands on her waist, every sigh of contentment she felt against her hair and every step when Vetra drew herself just a little bit closer so that they were just a little bit more connected to one another.
The gentle, soft swaying soothed Sara’s alertness, calmed her and brought her to a state of serenity. This gave her a chance to relax, no, Vetra gave her a chance to relax as she so often did. Sara was thankful for this, something she didn’t even realise she needed so badly. Contact with the girl she loved, something gentle and soft. Something that warmed her from the core of her soul. So much stress unwound when she was wrapped in Vetra’s protecting arms, so much worry dissipated into nothing as though she was swaying on clouds, and not on the dirt covered floor in Kadara.
Sara snuggled closer, letting her forehead come to rest on Vetra’s unusually unarmoured chest.
“You seem happy now,” Vetra noted, the change in Sara an obvious one. She didn’t seem so wound up anymore. She didn’t seem so rigid.
“I admit, you do know how to cheer me up.”
Vetra chuckled, moving her left hand up to play with Sara’s deep brown hair. “Just wait until we get back to the tempest,” she joked with a wink.
“Maybe I’ll teach you how to play ‘Snakes and Ladders’,” Sara suggested with a grin, looking up at her girlfriend to give her the full effect of her teasing.
“Maybe I’ll teach you how to play a game where the rules actually make sense,” Vetra countered back, her hands still playing with Sara’s hair, fascinated as she always had been. The two of them still swayed back and forth, not even noticing when the bar started to fill up with more exiles.
“'Snakes and Ladders’ makes perfect sense. Just wait until we play Monopoly. That one’s always fun to play.”
Vetra didn’t reply to that. Instead, she lowered herself to Sara’s level. One hand still resting on her waist and another still in her hair as she kissed her softly in the middle of the bar, ignoring the world around them completely as they were so lost in each other, and so lost in the sound of their own silent song, that everything else became mute.

I haven’t written fanfiction in a long time, so if its terrible you can inform me. Honestly I just really want to practice my writing since its something I enjoy but need to work on (as with all creative skills - you can always get better)
But I do love these two, and need to play them more so I can get more of a feel for their characters.

you know what really frustrates me lately re: the 100 is the whole “lets replace the characters we killed off for shock value with brand new characters who will fulfill the same function in the narrative and pretend like nothing happened”
and by that i mean : anya => echo, lincoln => luna, lexa => roan
a gifted warrior/second-in-command who’s ruthless and not afraid of violence and extremely loyal to her people and her leader. This character forms an uneasy bond with an enemy (a sky person) which ends up somewhat shaking up their sense of loyalty, while allowing the sky person some perspective on grounders lives. they save each other’s lives and respect each other’s skills, but there’s also betrayal and resentment and a lot of complicated history.
=> they killed anya, and gave us echo instead. seriously, look at the parallels between anya x clarke VS echo x bellamy. and i’m not unhappy about echo, i think she’s a cool character and her relationship with bellamy makes for good content but. hello anya 2.0, the “antagonist who becomes a complicated ally’’ and offers a lot of tension and story potential when paired up with our protagonist.
a pacifist who wants nothing to do with war but who will fight if cornered. Someone who’s ready to go up against tradition, even if it means being shunned from their own people and becoming an outcast. the character who’s gonna make our protagonists feel guilty about all the terrible things they’ve done, while also providing forgiveness and maybe another, better way of life.
=> they killed lincoln, and gave us luna instead. this one is particularly infuriating because the narrative had linked luna and lincoln plotwise before his death and so her appearance feels even more like a shoddy replacement for what they lost when they killed him off. which imo doesn’t make luna very likeable. And i know people complain that they made out luna to be the straight  new and improved version of lexa, and it def makes sense on some level, but i mostly disagree. luna is meant to replace lincoln as the ~voice of peace, the non-violent fighter, not lexa, who never had that role.
a grounder leader, with more experience than clarke, to act as her main counterpart among grounders. sometimes an ally and sometimes an opponent, as clarke and them try to balance loyalty to their respective people and fighting for the greater good (peace and the survival of the entire human race). Ruthless and practical, yet ultimately wants peace for everybody. Acts as a mentor for clarke, recognizes her as a leader and an equal, supports her leadership decisions and calls her out when she favors her own people above anyone else.
=> they killed lexa and gave us roan instead. If you take out the “romance/personal connection with clarke” part of lexa’s role in the show, that’s exactly what they’re doing with roan now. which is especially clear since i think he’s the ONLY character who has mentioned lexa twice to clarke now, in two different conversations about clarke’s leadership. Plus that entire scene where she gives him the chip.
anyway all that to say that i am ANNOYED. you cant just replace characters that you’ve spent some time establishing in your story, and expect the audience to care as much for the new versions of them?? And also like... if you KNEW those characters were important - so important in fact that you need to have them replaced when they exit the story - THEN MAYBE DONT FUCKING KILL THEM OFF YOU IDIOTS. That’s what you get when ~a shocking death is privileged over anything else.
