❝RIVALS-TO-LOVERS IN A MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING ACADEMY❞

— "That was pretty good." "You? Giving me a compliment? Oh, you've really lost it now."

— A winning over B and, subsequently, rubbing it into their face. A gets all up in B's personal space just to rile them up because A enjoys the sight of B blushing because of them.

— "Funny how you're always getting floored." "Funny how you haven't won a single match in the past month."

— Intimate moment where A needs help with a certain move, and B says, "Sure, I guess an amateur like you does need help." But then they both end up really close, and B feels like they're getting lost in A's eyes. They're both blushing, all caught up in the moment, and then immediately pull away in disgust when they realize.

— "Your stance is weak, and your reaction time is absolute trash." "Excellent pep talk, as always."

— "Wow, your form just gets worse and worse every day." "And you just get more and more insufferable."

— Lots of insults to cover up the slow growth of certain emotions.

— Moment where A gets struck down pretty badly, and B almost instantly runs over while frantically asking if A is alright. A reassures B they're fine and tries to brush them off because A doesn't want to rely whatsoever on B. However, B insists on taking them to the infirmary.

— "You idiot! You could have gotten seriously injured!" "And what do you care?"

— A saying something really hurtful in the heat of the moment which leads to B running off because it really hit a nerve. A is left heartbroken, but they don't understand why...they hate B, don't they?

— A and B get paired to train together, and it gets intense between them, trying to assert who's better than the other. A pins B down, and it's in that moment where they're so close that time stops. Right then and there, they realize all that hate has bloomed into something else.

— It will take ages for them to admit they like each other. Transitioning from once competing and spewing hateful words to suddenly realizing they have underlying feelings is a slow process.

— "You're so pretty like this." "Did I strike your head too hard or...?"

— "Do you want to be my partner?" "For training today?" "Yeah...that's what I meant."

— One of them is truly the most reluctant to admit their feelings, but they do eventually, and then they start dating. The whole academy is flabbergasted because how A and B went from wanting to rip each other's heads off to holding hands in public is beyond their understanding. Even the teacher is befuddled, but the teacher most definitely knew something was brewing between them.

— "I want to kiss you so bad right now." "Right after you shower first."

— "Do you still think my stance is weak?" "Yeah, but that's what I'm here for."

— A kissing B out of the blue to which B says, "What was that for?" and A replies, "At least your reaction time is getting better." For this, A gets a good nudge from B.

— Practicing together while bantering playfully. A would say, "You're taking this seriously, huh?" To which B replies, "You know I don't like to lose, love." while smirking.

— "You've got a bruise on your knee..." "Yeah, wanna kiss it better?"

— "C almost kicked me in the mouth today during practice." "I would still love you, teeth or no teeth."

– In general, they're such playful lovers.

write with the ending in mind

use patterns from tragic past events to warn of the future

keep the characters distracted! run it in the background until the grand reveal

WEATHER.

do some research into Chekhov's gun

mention something that the mc dismisses over and over

KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU PUT. don't leave things hanging.

unreliable characters giving information that turn out to be true

flowers and names with meanings

anything with meanings actually

reasons for there to be only one bed ˗ˏˋ ꒰ 🍊 ꒱

¹⁾ they’re undercover as a married couple, and as such need to act like one

²⁾ there’s technically two beds available, but it’s freezing cold and everybody knows body heat works best

³⁾ it’s a camping trip, and one character’s forgotten their sleeping bag

⁴⁾ a character goes to their friend’s house after an emotional upheaval in search of comfort, and ends up staying the night - but refuses to kick the homeowner out of their own bed, resulting in the two of them sharing it

⁵⁾ in a roommate scenario, one character’s bedroom has been rendered unusable - and with the couch being unsustainable in the long run, they proffer sharing the one remaining bed as a solution

⁶⁾ there are two beds, but only one blanket

⁷⁾ a character’s taken ill, and the other party worries too much to leave them alone for even a minute

⁸⁾ in a fit of anger after a mission gone wrong, both characters sleep in the only available bed because no one was chivalrous to offer to take the floor

⁹⁾ a character’s had a nightmare, and needs company to feel safe enough to go back to sleep

¹⁰⁾ the weather takes a tumultuous turn, meaning a late night hangout has to turn into a sleepover when a character gets stranded there for the night

¹¹⁾ it’s a late night at work and when they both grow too tired to continue on, the only option is the lone office couch

¹²⁾ a threat’s been made against one/all character(s) involved, and so under the guise of safety in numbers it’s deemed safest if they stay together - everywhere

¹³⁾ one character joins the other for a late-night conversation, and ends up getting comfortable in their bed next to them - evidently too comfortable, as the char in bed falls asleep on the visitor and effectively traps them there

¹⁴⁾ there’s no bed in the shoddy refuge they’ve found after things went sideways, so when it comes time to sleep the only real choice is to stay close together

and, of course,

¹⁵⁾ it’s the last room available at the hotel after a long trip

Friends to lovers (high school) that have a vlogging channel? (Not like a Food Review, but like goofy inquisitor master type?)

— Other friends who show up on their channel and play with them start to hint at the blossoming love between A and B.

— "Hey, I thought I was your partner in this game?" C would inquire A, and A would sheepishly look at B, and say, "I know, but I wanted to be with B today."

— "Are we playing again today? I have this really great idea for a new video, and I think—" "Actually, I was thinking B and I could film a video of just the two of us."

— A and B, completely oblivious to their own feelings, start bonding more and more together on the channel. Loving stares, red faces, and nervous giggles. Too apparent that they're way more than just friends, to the point viewers start dropping certain comments.

— "This person commented we looked cute together in the last video." "Ah, is that so?"

— "I let you win this time, actually." "Keep telling yourself that."

— "You're so cute when you get scared."

— "You're never letting me live that down, huh?" "No, not really."

— Moments where A and B get caught up in their own world and forget they're even recording. Where it's all just them enjoying each other's company, playfighting, smiling and laughing. The blossoming of young love.

— The petrifying moment where they realize they aren't just friends anymore. When A realizes they want is, more than ever, to be with B and no one else. And B realizes it, too. It initiates an awkward phase in their friendship.

— Excuses upon excuses just to avoid one another. A would say, "Are you coming over today?" And B, though it hurts, comes up with a lie, "I can't, sorry."

— A and B plainly avoiding each other in the hallways, wanting to say something, but afraid of making it more awkward.

— Their channel goes silent for weeks until they figure out what they are. While the viewers definitely know what's going on between them and start begging for the return of their favorite couple.

— Their other friends who play with them would concoct a plan to just get A and B in a room together.

— "Did...did they just leave us here?" "I guess so."

— A and B would come to their breaking point, nervously blurting out the words they've been dying to say.

— "I didn't expect you to like me back." "What? But you're so...lovable, how could I not?"

— "I like you so much I think I'd explode if I didn't say anything soon."

— "You suck at this game, but that's alright, I guess you had to be flawed in something." "Was that supposed to be a compliment?"

— "Wait–" A pauses the game, fixing B's crooked headset until its settled perfectly on their head. A stares lovingly at B and doesn't hold back from placing a soft kiss on B's cheek.
