— power of the past
TW! mentions of death and violence (non-descriptive)
The moon was high above the sea with sooyun sitting among the rocks of Socheonji. It's quite a swim from her home but when the locals and tourists are gone, the swim is easy for her as it is place to calm from her nightmares. Earlier that day there was news among the fae of an imugi found dead, stripped of their scales and horns. Sooyun hadn't heard of her own kind killed in such a way in years that it woke her from her sleep that night... But then it all made sense to the tension growing within the island. Rumors have it that other species are blaming the fae but also that it could mean more hunters are sniffing about.
She remembers all those centuries ago of hiding among the human population, trying not to capture attention but then seeing her kind roped up and locked away. Some even slaughtered or taken from their rivers if found. It was so dangerous then but now it is a reality Sooyun must face again.
Her left hand rests above the salty water below, a motion that easily creates a whirlpool as the current changes to accommodate. Sooyun has begun to notice her abilities have grown and knows it is just the beginning signs of her dragon form beginning. She can't even be confident that she will live to see those moments.
It fills a sudden irritation in her, of other imugi young and old being hunted for their scales, as if some cash cow. Their own lives taken from them over centuries and the hunting as only gotten worse. The irritation bubbling within Sooyun slowly turns into rage, the whirlpool growing in size, the waters violent as her thoughts worsen. She knew only a few other imugi's on the island that were in even more risk because of their age. The nightmares will never stop no matter where she goes and she will lose the few close in her life because of greed and selfishness.
She can't run anymore, not like before. Jeju is her home and the few friends she has are here with her, constantly in danger. One life has been lost but they won't be the last. Sooyun's face is stoic, flat, reserved of her thoughts. There is no more running from her nightmares, her reality she has avoided for hundreds of years. She made a promise to herself that She knows that the conflicts on Jeju will soon become her business and know that it the time comes, she will do anything to protect those she holds close. Even if it means blood is shed along the way.
She knows that the conflicts on Jeju will soon become her business and know that when the time comes, she will do anything to protect those she holds close. Even if it means blood is shed along the way. Sooyun made a promise to herself to become stronger, to embrace her nightmares of watching her kin die to fuel her anger that when the time comes, she will not be so weak... That she will take the lives of those who took from her.
"When the river and ocean tides are no longer at peace. That will be the time war begins."

They say you die three times, first when the body dies, second, when your body enters the grave, and third, when your name is spoken for the last time. You were a normal person in life, but hundreds of years later, you still haven't had your "third" death. You decide to find out why.

i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.

the problem with reading and writing leading to a strong vocabulary is that you tend to know the vibe of words instead of their meanings.
if I used this word in a sentence, would it make sense? absolutely. if you asked me what it meant, could I tell you? absolutely not.

“how did you get into writing” girl nobody gets into writing. writing shows up one day at your door and gets into you

— sea breeze
open thread to anyone!
The air is crisp with that touch of salt from the ocean it passes as Sooyun collects bundles of seaweed from the other Haenyeo's after finishing their catches and collections for the morning. The current had picked up so Sooyun advised the older women to call it in. It was a normal for her to work with the women and even go out to the markets to sell their catches.
Today was no different as the local fish markets were busy with locals and tourists. While the older women made deals with other fisherman and businesses, she allowed herself to sell their catches in one of the woman's shops where seaweed and shellfish were out for product.
It wasn't the most exciting thing to do but it helped with the façade of being just a granddaughter helping her grandmother's friends out. Also helped that Soohyun spoke a bit of English so selling to tourists was a plus. But like any day it was mainly new faces coming about with the occasional regular customer.
Sooyun was currently out front, laying out a bit a seaweed in hoping the sun was strong enough to still dry it naturally since Sooyun really doesn't want to lug back to the back rooms. From her sideview a face catches her attention but she couldn't help but give a friendly smile, "You looking for anything in particular?"

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.
