Tumblr media
You worked with a certain celebrity for quite a while now. He was brought in one day without knowing who he was, where he came from, and how he ended up in a weird cave. His residence at St. Mungo’s where you worked lasted for a while. Other Healers declared that there was no way to recover his memory, but he didn’t seem to mind. Gilderoy was perfectly content with being happy and healthy even if he didn't know what was going on.
He was so sweet. Never gave you or any of your colleagues any trouble. He took his potions with ease, didn't make a fuss when bringing him from one room to another, and held conversations as normal. His family would visit him on occasion and it pained you to watch him not know them. But overall, he was happy.
After two years at St. Mungos, Gilderoy was let go considering that even though his memories were gone, he had enough mental stability to be out in public. Gilderoy had to go to a private academy to re-learn magic basics in adult classes. You remember the night before he left.
“So nice to start my life tomorrow,” Gilderoy had his signature smile on. He ate his dinner on his own without the help of Healers.
“Your life has already started, you just don't remember is all,” you corrected. You were preparing his bed for the last time. Since it's his last night, you were able to grab an extra pillow for him to be comfortable.
“Yes, but tomorrow I'll start a life I can remember. I'll make new memories.” Gilderoy stood up from his small table and walk to his hospital bed. He always loved the way you prepared his bed. How you fluffed the pillow, folded the blankets back neatly, and made sure the bed was warm. It wasn't special treatment as you did it for all patients, but he appreciated it all the same.
“Good night, Miss Y/L/N,” he said.
“Good night, Mr. Lockhart,” you replied.
Two years later, you're still working at St. Mungos. You've seen patients come and go since then. None quite as cooperative as Gilderoy, but they weren't all bad either.
The London streets were busy as usual today. It was slightly cloudy, but luckily it wasn't raining. And thank Merlin because you didn't have an umbrella with you. Cabs were driving right past you as you stood by the sidewalk trying to catch one. Once one stopped in front of you and you were about to climb in, another hand also grabbed for the handle. “Miss Y/L/N?”
Gilderoy stood next to you, eyes gleaming and wore his charming smile. He looked as happy as he always did. “Mr. Lockhart, hello.” It was a pleasant run in, and you'd love to chat but you had to be at work soon. It seemed that he noticed your uniform as well. “Oh, go ahead. I'll call for another one.”
“Thank you, Mr. Lockhart.” You opened the door but before you could close it, Gilderoy said one last thing. “I hope to see you again!” He waved at you as you left and kept at it until you were out of sight.
His wish was granted three months later; he was walking around the same street for probably the 4th time that week. He wasn't ashamed to admit that after that day he ran into you, he wanted to see you again. You were with a couple of friends at a pub one night celebrating a proper weekend off. Gilderoy followed you in, a bit of people that recognized him stopped him to say ‘hi’ but of course, he doesn't know them. They were fans of his before the memory loss. They took a few pictures and he went walking after you. You were seen sitting at a bar table by yourself waiting for your friends to come back from the restroom.
Gilderoy walked up to you slowly, “Hello, Miss Y/L/N.” You recognized him and by pure habit, you gave him your work smile and voice, “Good evening, Mr. Lockhart.”
“Please, call me Gilderoy,” he requested.
“Gilderoy,” you reached your hand out to shake his, “you can call me Y/N.” His smile changed, not one that you've seen in magazines and papers, but a more humble one. His cheeks became a bit rosy and he looked like he was flustered. “So, how have you been?” he asked. You took a quick sip of the water that was on the table before continuing the conversation, “I’ve been good! Just been working all the time. How about you? I bet so many great things have been going with you?”
“Not really. Since I didn't know much about my life before I was admitted in, I didn't know where to start. So I lived with my mother for a while, but now I’m on my own.” Seeing Gilderoy be so humble was a sight to see. A once self-centered, proud man has turned into a sweet, kind one. You almost wanted to thank whoever did this to him, not knowing it was actually Gilderoy who had accidentally done this to myself. “Well, are you working right now?” you asked him.
“No, I don’t really have anything to offer,” he looked down.
“That’s not true, you…” you stopped to think about what it was that Gilderoy could do. And unfortunately, it wasn't much. When word had gone out that he had actually stolen credit for all the things he had claimed to have done, people wondered if he was good at anything.
Gilderoy laughed at your blank expression. You felt bad. “Well, I’m sure you’re good at something.” You patted his shoulder gently across the table. Your friends came back from the restroom after what felt like twenty minutes. “Oh! It’s Gilderoy Lockhart, so nice to meet you,” each of them shook his hand. “What brings you here?”
Suddenly, he was embarrassed to say that he was spending weeks trying to find you. “Oh, I was just around. I walked inside and recognized Y/N. Thought I’d say hello,” he felt a bit nervous at that moment. “Well I best be going. I don't want to intrude. Have a good evening.” Gilderoy was about to leave until one of your friends called out for him, “No, stay! I’m sure Y/N would love to catch up with you, isn't that right?” You weren't sure if it would be appropriate to hang out with a former patient. Sure, it’s been a couple years since then, but you've never had any patients become even acquaintances, let alone friends. But the look in Gilderoy’s eyes that were basically begging you to say ‘yes’ hit something in you. “If you’re not doing anything else tonight, I'm sure we would like your company tonight.”
Gilderoy was funnier than he seemed to be. Being one of the Healers that worked with him for nearly four years, you never knew about this. He was telling the story of the first time he had used the levitation spell during his adult classes and he accidentally made his professor levitate and not the inanimate object on the table. Slightly tipsy, you and your friends laughed so hard trying to picture the situation. Gilderoy said he panicked and when he tried to let him down, the professor fell from ten feet in the air on his head and passed out. Luckily, he wasn't kicked out to the class but it was certainly something the professor never let him live down.
By the end of the night, your friends had gotten plastered and left for home. You were fine; your tipsy state was gone. You made sure your friends were set in the cab and told the cabbie their addresses. Gilderoy stood behind you and watched as you took care of your friends. It was different than when you worked, but it brought back memories when you took care of him.
When the cab drove off, you turned to look at the blond man. “Well, it was great seeing you, Mr. Lock– Gilderoy,” you quickly corrected yourself. You nodded and started walking down the street before he called for you again. “W-would you like to take a walk?” You thought about it, the same thought from earlier. But you've already shared a few drinks with him, so a walk wouldn't hurt. The sky was clear and although the stars were faint, there were a couple large ones that you could point out. You walked in silence for a couple minutes until you spoke up, “The weather’s nice.” He nodded quietly. It wasn't odd for him, but it was for you. It was odd to see him not as talkative as he used to be. You supposed that when you have your memories wiped, your personality could be affected as well. But he was still somewhat himself when he was a patient, so this change must have happened in the past two years. You hoped that nothing bad happened in that time.
It was getting later and later, but something about Gilderoy was different and you liked being around this sort of new him. He’s more inviting compared to how he was when he was a celebrity. The feeling of it being weird with him outside of work was gone, and something else started. You wanted to get to know him as a person again.
You checked the time on your wristwatch and decided that you should head home eventually. “It was nice seeing you tonight. I hope to see you again,” you grinned. His eyes lit up as he looked at you, “I would love that. Maybe we can have tea sometime?”
“I’d like that. Goodnight, Gilderoy.”
“Good night, Y/N.” He signaled a cab for you and like he did the last time, he waved until he couldn't see you anymore.

omg pls do 38 with grayson i'll cry
Lynds ily 🥺 also sorry this is LONG for a concept I got carried away as usual
38. You help a lost child find their parent together.
(btw I wrote this with like mid-teen y/n and grayson in mind)
You were so excited that you and your friends had finally found the time to hangout together. You all had been so busy with finals and work, but with summer finally coming around the gang had made plans to visit the amusement park you used to go to as kids. You’d been hyping up the trip for so long, so when you all actually arrived it was such an exciting rush you hadn’t felt in a long time. Since you’d made it there at around noon, the plan was to eat at the park, but when you realized that everybody wanted something different, you guys decided to split up and get your food, then meet back at the tables. And so you sauntered off towards the nearest DQ, knowing full well that you intended on getting all the desert you could.
You were about to step into the line when you heard the faint sound of crying coming from the arcade right across from where you were. You turned to see a little boy, maybe around 5 or 6 years old, standing at the entrance, a terrified look on his face as he bawled his eyes out.
“Oh no,” You muttered doing a 180 and almost slamming face first into the couple in line behind you. You sheepishly mumbled out an apology, hastily trying to push your way out of the line that had somehow almost doubled in the twenty seconds you had been standing there for. You were met with many grumpy faces as you shimmied out of the line, some throwing curses at you, and you would usually be annoyed about it if it wasn’t for the poor little kid you were trying to get to.
You ran up to the boy and crouched down so you were eye level with him. “Hey, hey bud, are you okay? Are you lost?”
He nodded through his sobs and sniffles, looking around hastily for someone.
“Who did you come with?”
“M-m-my m-m-mom,”
“Do you have any idea which way she went?”
“N-no! My m-mom told me i-if I ever get l-l-lost I sh-should stay where I a-a-am and she’ll f-f-find me,” He was starting to cry harder.
“Hey, don’t worry I’m gonna help you find her, okay?” You brought your arm up to rub his shoulder reassuringly. “What’s your name, bud?”
“C-Caleb.”
“Do you know your mom’s phone number, Caleb?”
“Y-yea!”
“Wow, aren’t you smart! Do you wanna try calling your mom from my phone?”
“Y-y-yes.”
“Great.” You got up and reached into your jeans’ pockets, only for your fingers to slide down to the bottom of the cool denim. You frantically patted down all your pockets, searching for your phone when you remembered- you’d given it to your friend during the car ride to change the music and she hadn’t given it back to you.
“Shi-” You stopped yourself from cursing when you remembered who was there with you.
“W-What’s wrong?”
“Nothing Caleb, just give me a second, alright? I’m going to find a phone for you.”
“O-okay.”
You looked up to see a boy standing at one of the arcade games. It looked like he’d just finished up, since he was reaching for the tickets that had come out of the machine.
Normally, you weren’t someone to walk up to cute boys (especially not ones THIS attractive) on a whim, but that wasn’t the first thing on your mind right now.
“Caleb, just stay right here for one minute okay?”
“W-w-where are you going?” You could see the tears beginning to well up in his eyes again.
“No no don’t worry! I’m just going to go get a phone for you really quickly, okay?”
He sniffled, but nodded. You walked hastily over the boy who was about to leave the machine.
“Hi, sorry to bother you.” You tapped him on the shoulder, and when he turned around you were taken aback a bit. You must’ve stood there for a bit longer than normal, because he raised an eyebrow at you.
“Yes..?”
You shook your head. “Do you have a phone I could borrow? This little boy Caleb is lost and he wants to call his mom but I don’t have mine on me..” You pointed at the kid at the entrance.
“Oh! Yea, of course! Here,” He shoved his hand into his shorts pocket, unlocked it, and handed it to you with a smile.
“Thank you so much, you’re a lifesaver.” Before he could respond you hurried back over to little Caleb and gave him the phone.
“Do you know how to dial?”
“Y-yea.”
“Okay.”
He dialed his mom’s number and held the phone up to his ear, it looking comically large in his small hands. After a few rings you heard a woman’s frantic voice on the call.
“Hello?”
“Mommy!” Caleb cried again.
“Caleb? Is that you?”
Caleb wailed over the phone for a bit, crying for his mom to come find him but wasn’t really making any coherent sense. After a while he calmed down, and actually answered the questions his mom was asking.
“You know this kid?” You were startled by the voice from behind you, and it took you a second to realize it was the one who’d lent you his phone that was walking up to you.
“Oh, no. I just saw him crying.”
“Ah, gotcha.”
Caleb’s sudden burst of sobs caught you both off guard.
“Honey, listen to mommy. Is anyone there with you?” you could both hear his mother’s voice over the phone.
“Y-y-yea, the nice girl!”
“Can you give it to her please?”
He looked up at you, eyes glistening, and handed the phone to you.
“Hi Ma’am, I’m Y/N.”
“Hi sweetheart, thank you so much for helping him. Where are you right now? He said he’s at the games but I don’t know what he’s talking about.”
“Oh, we’re right outside the arcade. It’s pretty close to the entrance.”
“Oh yes I remember passing by it! Thank you, sweetheart, I’ll be there right away!” She hung up the phone.
You looked down at little Caleb and crouched down so you were next to him again. “Don’t worry, your mommy said she’ll be here soon, okay?”
He sniffled. “O-okay.”
You smiled, rubbing his shoulder again.
“Oh,” You got up to your feet and handed the boy his phone. “Here. Thanks.”
“No problem. I’m Grayson, by the way.”
“Y/N.”
“W-when will she get here?” Caleb asked.
“I’m not sure, Caleb. But definitely soon.” You could tell he was going to start crying again, but before you could do anything Grayson spoke.
“Hey, bud, how about I give you something?”
He wiped his nose with his arm. “W-what?”
“It’s a surprise.” He smiled at him, then winked at you before walking back into the arcade, causing blood to rush to your face.
“W-what’s he doing?”
“I dunno, bud. Must be something cool though.” You grinned at the boy, and you finally got a smile to crack from him.
A few minutes later Grayson walked back, and he was holding something behind his back.
“Can you hold this for a sec?” He handed you his phone again, and you took it, curious yourself as to what he was doing.
“Caleb, guess what I got you.”
“W-what?”
He brought his arm out from behind his back to reveal a cute stuffed green dinosaur.
Caleb’s eyes widened and his smile grew. “Wow! How did you know I liked dinosaurs?” He took it from him, smiling giddly.
“Because you’re wearing a super cool T-rex shirt!” He knelt next to him, pointing at it. “I’m jealous, I wish I had a shirt that cool.”
Caleb laughed. “Really?”
“Yea! I’m sure you’re the coolest kid at school, aren’t you?”
“Haha, yea!”
You smiled, watching Grayson have his fun conversation with the little boy. You’d never seen someone your age act so natural and kind around kids before. It was kinda cute.
You finally looked down at Grayson’s phone, realizing that you still had it in your hand. You were about to hand it back to him when you realized it was open on an app already. You brought it up to your face, having to squint a bit in the sunlight, and saw that it was opened to contacts. And some of it was already filled out.
In the First Name box he’d already had your name written, and in the Last name box he’d written: If it’s cool with you :) ↓
The arrow was pointing below to the field to enter your phone number.
You smiled. You got a head rush when you realized what was happening. You looked back towards him to see that his attention had left Caleb (who was now happily playing with his dinosaur plushie) and was now focused on you with a small smile.
“This is very cocky of you, yknow.”
He laughed. “Sorry. I was too scared to just ask.”
You bit your tongue, grinning at him as you went to enter your number into his phone. You could see him pumping his fists into the air out of the corner of your eye, and you giggled.
“Hey, Caleb. Gimme a high-five.” Caleb did so, earning a big grin from Grayson. “My man!”
Caleb laughed, and you did with him.
Not too long afterwards, Caleb’s mom came running up to her son and hugging him tighter than you’d seen anyone hug a person before. “Oh my sweet angel.”
She thanked you and Grayson a million times over, and you both assured her that it was no trouble at all. She asked if she could treat you to anything, but you both let her know that you were just happy that she’d found her son. After they left, Grayson turned to you.
“How about I treat you to lunch instead?”
You crossed your arms at him. “You really think you can get away with lines like that?”
“I’m just asking!” He chuckled.
You did too. “I’d love to, but I’m actually having lunch with some of my friends-” Your eyes widened. “Shit! My friends!” You grabbed your wallet from the floor. “Sorry, I gotta go!” You began to run, but looked back at him. “Call me!”
“I will!” He laughed, waving to you as you raced off to meet your friends.

Fairy Tale NOT Like [Levi | Reader]
Sequel: Romantic? More Like NO
Tumblr media
Levi felt just so irritated.
Firstly Hanji had to break his favourite set of tea cups in the morning just because 'I had to take Eren's sample to the office as fast as possible!' Yeah, as if that would magically ressurect his precious china.
Then Eren fucking Jaeger just had to go and make a tantrum about not being invited to the ball that was to be held tonight in the near palace. And from where the fuck did he even know about the ball? That kid had enough problems, he shouldn't have acted like a witty girl just because he got no annoying velvety piece of shit in front of his door at six fucking in the morning. Then after he calmed the teen down, he had to go and do the usual training session with the cadets. Fair enough it seemed.
It was followed by a good time of afternoon tea and then he planned to do some paperwork, rest, maybe even visit town and buy himself some tea or even a new broom because the old one was getting worn out. However, Erwin fucking Smith just had to ruin his peaceful alone time, burst his bubble and tell him he had to go to tonight's ball. He had to look pretty and talk politely and blah, blah, blah. The reason? Levi had no fucking idea.
So now he was here - dressed in a tux with a bouquet of flowers for who damn knows - walking down the streets of the town square because he got partly lost on his way to the palace. Just great. This wasn't how his evening should’ve been spent.
If he was lucky he could’ve been reading a book in the mess hall just near the fireplace with no brats around because it would be after curfew, a cup of tea in hand and a peaceful mind, away from his everyday problems for five to fifty minutes. But no.
He was forced to attend this frilly ball, to get "pretty" as Erwin had said, then buy flowers - again an order from Erwin - and actually interact with living people and not insult them, then eat properly, talk no bullshit and make no frowns. To top it all off, he wasn’t even given permission to get drunk. So unfair.
As Levi made his way through the crowd that was to either go to the ball or go back to their homes, he accidentally bumped into someone and said someone was going to fall before Levi caught his hand and pulled him back up. When the raven-haired man looked who the person was he found himself face to face with a woman around her mid-twenties, exactly two inches shorter than he was with a bewildered look on her face.
He let go of her forearm as fast as he had gripped it but the woman was in no haste, so she took her time eyeing him up and down before apologising for being a goddamn klutz.
"I'm really sorry for my recklessness, sir. I didn't mean to bump into you." She stated, her tone high-pitched in supposed nervousness. Her voice, however, held very little of the regret she tried to convey.
"You don't really sound sorry."
"I do bump into people everyday, so apologies have turned into a life for me." She shrugged and he snorted. He should be on his way to the fucking palace, not here talking with whoever this woman was. His mind made an abrupt connection. A brilliant idea. He could use her. Not just as an excuse to arrive late, no. He could really use her.
"And where were you going?" He questioned, making the woman frown.
"I was just taking a walk. I just quit my job so I’m looking for a new one."
"You could always work for the palace."
"I’d prefer not to get involved in something I consider my greatest nightmare, thank you. The snobs inside the palace get all my money as it is, I don’t want to serve directly under them too." The woman huffed and knotted her eyebrows in spite, making Levi slightly hum in satisfaction. This was definitely a feisty one. But he would have to make it work. God how he hated interacting with people.
"I can get you a job." He stated straightforwardly, making the female gape at his uncaring scowl.
"Where?"
"Wherever you want."
“Really?” Her eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms, bringing his attention to her tattered button-up. In another life, it should’ve been white but it was grey and worn-out, just like the pants she’d clearly cuffed herself, judging by the sloppy handiwork. Levi eyed the neatly braided (h/c) hair over her shoulder and the clear (s/c) skin contrasting the (e/c) hues currently judging him. A bath was all that stood between her and the adjective ‘pretty’.
"Of cour---"
"And what would you exactly want in return, Mr. Complaisant?" She responded to his glare with one of her own, almost making him roll his eyes in exasperation. He should’ve known she wouldn’t be naive like most women with how poverty-stricken she looked. She was probably one missed paycheck away from becoming homeless and people like her rarely took kind to unreasonably generous offers.
"You got me." He stated boredly, making her snort as he pretended to turn and resume his walk to the palace. He needed not start at all, for she blocked his path with her body less than a second later.
"So?" Her inquiry coincided with the bump of their shoulders as Levi was almost surprised at the lack of disgust he felt at the unintentional contact.
"What?" He asked and she repeated her question with a sigh.
"What would you want in return? Just because someone comes up to me with a suspicious job offer doesn’t mean I’ll be missing out on the opportunity. Let me hear that favour you'll want and I'll decide."
"You seriously don’t know me if you dare question my word, much less if you bargain with me." He glared as she stood across from him as unfazed as she could be. Great, apparently he couldn't intimidate her enough as to use his authority on her. Just great. His plan was crumbling and he had no back-up one.
"Right now, stranger, you're simply the newest addition to my collection of people I’ve bumped into. Not bargaining with you is simply not me, nothing personal." The woman’s explanation made him roll his eyes, then click his tongue and fix her with a glare.
"I want you to go to the ball tonight with me."
"That was sudden." However, she didn’t seem one bit surprised. Was she used to having men invite her to balls left and right all day or was she a mind-reader?
"Do you accept or not? I don't have all night." He tried to keep the insults in, seemingly as he'd have to do it for the rest of the night anyway.
"Sure thing. But the job offer stays?" She looked at him in a suspicious way, making his insides gurgle with irritation at her character. He’d experienced instant dislike lots of times in his life but this individual sparked curiosity too. She was too interesting to be entirely disliked.
"Don't question my words."
"Fine, fine. I'll just have to change."
"We don't have time for that. I'll buy you a dress as we go." He grabbed her wrist before she could turn and headed towards the only dress store he knew of, which was the one where he’d gotten his tux from earlier the same week. The female let herself be dragged after him with suspicious ease, though he could feel her glare piercing the back of his head.
Less than three minutes later, he was knocking on the door of the dress store, hoping for it to be open at this time. The owner’s irritated countenance showed, incoming insults halting at the tip of his tongue at the sight of his client.
"M-Mr. Ackerman. What a pleasure. W-Why are you here?" The man asked as Levi shoved the silent woman at his side through the door with a mean glare.
"Take her measurements and give her a nice dress. Erwin Smith will be paying. I’ll be outside." With a last glance to the confused face of the female and the panicked one of the owner, he exited the store and stiffly considered leaning on the dirty wall before deciding it wasn’t worth it.
Of all things he could be doing right now, he was waiting for a woman he didn’t know so she could accompany him to a ball. Levi had no idea why he’d decided to take her along but he guessed he could only face the consequences of that from now onwards. The minutes he spent silently waiting were uncountable but they paid off well when he saw the store’s door open. He felt the woman who walked out now was not the same as the one he’d shoved in. He blinked at her for a short while in wonder, then motioned for her to follow.
She made no comment on his demanour, she didn’t ask how she looked or what he thought, she didn’t speak at all actually. It was the first time Levi felt discomfort at not being pestered with questions. Because, in this special case, they would be justified. It could be said, they had to be there. But they weren’t and that was strange. Almost as strange as the fact she’d accepted his request without giving it much thought.
"What's your name?"
"(Y/N) (L/N). You don't need to bother remembering it." He hummed at her words and she glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "Why did you ask me to come to that ball with you?"
"To piss somebody off."
"I guess we're even then." His perplexed look spoke volumes on his actual confusion. For all he knew, he was using her - not the other way around. "I agreed to come with you to get back at an old friend of mine since I’m sure he’ll be there." (Y/N) stated, making Levi huff whilst trying not to cringe at how muddy the streets were.
"So it wasn't only for the job?" He asked, not curious and not impartial, just for the sake of avoiding silence.
"Oh, I do need it. I’m just taking more advantage of your offer than I should." Her dress was a darker colour in the light of the setting sun as she spoke, making Levi click his tongue.
"It's amazing how manipulative some women are." His statement was nonchalant. She only nodded.
"And how uncaring some men can make themselves seem."
"Your implication?"
"You're not actually that cold, are you? You cared enough to use me at least. You could’ve easily brushed me off." Levi couldn’t understand where the word ‘care’ wrote itself into the manipulative act he’d performed but he couldn’t deny she was being observant.
"I'm not usually like that." He reassured boredly. He could see her shrug with his peripheral vision; the temptation to look at her was tickling his neck but he was the tiniest of bits put off by the fact he might just see the smirk he somehow knew was on her lips. “Now, I’m not going to be lecturing you on etiquette. You can go embarrass yourself in whichever way you want for all I care so long as you don’t say I’ve basically bought your escort." He changed the topic with a deadpan as she nodded, smiling just slightly.
"Sure thing." His stomach took an unpleasant turn. What was happening? Had he become nauseous without even noticing? Was it the food he’d eaten? He opened his mouth to speak again when she exclaimed: "Oh, look we're here! Come on!" She grabbed his wrist and pulled him towards the palace's entrance. He quickly yanked his hand from hers - clothed contact with her he may have tolerated, but this here was a no-no for his cleanliness.
"I can walk perfectly fine on my own." He stated and (Y/N) only snorted in responce.
"Then please do walk faster." With a roll of his eyes, Levi kept his pace just as slow as it had been before, if not slower on purpose. The guard at the entrance took his invitation and let them in but only after attempting to get a look at (Y/N)’s cleavage - an attempt Levi instantly compromised by vouchsafing him a glare. Much to the raven-haired male’s displeasure, they had to hook hands before walking in so that was exactly what they did.
The raven held back the cringe that was to make itself visible over his sharp features as his gaze faced the frilly decorations hanging from the marble columns and the high ceilings, not to mention the pompous lace ribbons all over the place. His nose was scrunched up in mild disgust as the woman at his side let out a distinct puke-imitation sound that summed up both’s impression of the hall.
"I agree." Levi’s statement made (Y/N) chuckle whilst fiddling with her braid. He guessed discomfort had gotten to her in the crowd.
"What do I do now?" She voiced out her childish concerns, to which he responded with a snort. Levi let go of her hand and handed the bouquet he was holding to the nearest woman visible, which was an old lady less than a foot away from him. She showed shock, then a smile as he bowed and turned back to his escort.
"I can introduce you to some people. We are half an hour late anyway. They must be all here already." She nodded and he led her away into the crowd. People stared at him as he walked in front of her and partially shielded her with his body from other people's contact as she furrowed her eyebrows in embarrassment and uncertainity while being eyed up from all directions from both women and men.
Finally reaching his destination as he witnessed Erwin ahead talking with Nile-the-bitch-Dok, Levi made sure he was noticed quickly by the blond who seemed to get paler by the second he saw the raven and his escort walk his way.
"Good evening.” The raven greeted informally, but the blond had all his attention on something behind Levi's back. Looking back he witnessed (Y/N), hands on her hips and a slight smirk playing on her lips.
"Miss me, boys?" Nile had already turned around and seen the woman himself, which made him the second besides Erwin to nearly gape at her. Levi could wholeheartedly say he didn't understand one bit the happening.
"Look who came back from the dead." Nile eyed (Y/N) with a whistle while Erwin cleared his throat, pale face slowly regaining its normal colour.
"You know I wasn’t dead to begin with, Nile. And you, Erwin - you look a lot worse. Not enjoying life?" The female closed the distance between herself and the men, snatching a glass of wine from the passing waiter.
"More like stuck-up as ever." Nile corrected before Erwin could speak for himself and the woman smiled.
"I'm happy to hear it. But---" she threw Nile a glance before locking gazes with Erwin, "I wasn't talking to you, Commander Pony." The title made Levi's teeth gnaw on the inner side of his cheek as to prevent a cackle. He'd never heard anybody besides himself and Hanji deride Nile in such a manner and even they rarely did it to his face. Humanity’s Strongest Soldier might’ve been clueless as to the happening but he certainly had nothing against the nicknames.
"I see you haven't changed." Erwin stated after chuckling, making (Y/N)'s smirk soften into a genuine smile.
"How could I? Change comes with people and surroundings. Mine haven't changed since you two left."
"A shocker, really." The dark-haired commander added as the woman shot him a playful glare.
"As witty as ever, Nile.”
"What leads you here anyway?" Erwin asked and (Y/N) shot Levi a glance, then turned back to the blond who might’ve come to the conclusion it wasn’t really a ‘what’ that had brought her there - rather a ‘who’.
"A soldier, I’m thinking he might be up in the ranks with how imperative he is. Guessing the name’s up to you." Her slyness made Nile chuckle as Levi shot daggers into his head. Erwin only raised an eyeborw at his at his strongest soldier.
"Is it true that she's your escort, Levi?"
"Sort of." The raven’s statement made the blond sigh before turning to (Y/N) with a smile.
"Can I have the first dance?" Levi didn’t need to hear the words to know there was something more to those two then either let show. He felt irritation at his side. Why? No idea. Before he could feel himself moving, the raven was already standing between the (h/c)-haired female and the commander.
"Actually it's already reserved. She's my escort after all." He tried to keep his voice down, steady and cold, and, well, it went out like a growl he wanted to punch himself for. He turned to look at (Y/N)’s big uncertain eyes and it dawned on him this was exactly why he shouldn’t have brought her along. He was ready to step aside when she laughed.
"I guess Levi's right. I'm reserved. Sorry, Erwin. I'll save you the next one." With that and a pat at the tall blond’s shoulder, (Y/N) smiled at Levi and took his hand - a gesture he was too confused to fight. They were in the middle of the hall and soft violins were playing, echoing off the walls and surrounding all the dancing couples.
There wasn’t an exchange of words - Levi just grabbed (Y/N)'s hand and waist and tried not to bruise them as her small palm glued itself to his shoulder. The fingers he was clutching were delicate and cold and it seemed to him even the gesture of squeezing would break them. Her feet moved swiftly under his command but she made the mistake of being hasty which resulted in the soft sole of her boots repeatedly coming in contact with his shiny dress shoes. Thankfully, her dress was long enough to cover up their clumsiness.
To his own utmost surprise, Levi didn’t feel the need to complain or even speak despite the fact she made it a goal to profusely apologise for her poor dancing skills
"That's why I always refuse dancing. I’m really sorry." She mumbled and Levi looked down at her with uncertainity before meeting Erwin’s gaze among the crowd over her shoulder.
"Who’s the friend you wanted to piss off?"
"Erwin, of course. He's always been the jealous type."
"Such a coincidence." Levi clicked his tongue and (Y/N) quirked an eyebrow at him as he spun her once and then pulled her back to himself.
"He’s your target as well?" She asked and he spun her again under his hand, he was sure she'd step on his foot any seco---
"Indeed." He hissed out slightly towards the end as her boot was yet once again met with his toes.
"Shit, sorry. Well, I can’t say I pity him." She mumbled after apologising hastily, catching back onto his shoulder as he sighed to calm the slight numbness in his toes.
"He'll get over it." The raven stated and the woman in front of him smiled softly, looking down at her feet. Well, not at least there was a possibility she'd prevent another stomp over his feet. "How do you know him anyway?” Levi tried to sound nonchant even though he had no idea why. He didn't care that much for anything but he knew silently spinning along to the violins would be more uncomfortable than this.
"Both he and Nile are my childhood friends. I wish Mike was around here as well. I'd love to see if him and his nose have changed." She snorted at that sentence as Levi rolled his eyes and remembered the morning accident and why exactly Hanji had broken his precious china. Mike was everywhere and if he didn't frighten you the first time you met, it would surely happen afterwards when he appeared out of the blue trying to smell the samples you held. Or in Hanji’s case it was that way since the majority was properly freaked out by his impression and hence didn’t show up around him again.
"Not in the least."
"That's great." (Y/N) laughed heartily, eyes sparkling with glee. Levi thought it very strange that she would be so happy, furthermore over something this insignificant. It wasn't like they lived in an utopia.
"So, childhood friends?" He redirected the topic, pulling her closer when another dancing couple came too close for comfort. (Y/N)’s chest bumped into Levi’s and her forehead hit his chin. He regretted preventing the collision with the other couple when he heard her breath hitch.
"Technically they were already in the military when I was a child, but I consider them that." She straightened out and blinked a few times, staring at his lips and trying to ignore the way he was watching her do it. He nodded weakly, to which she held her breath and looked down at her feet. She cleared her throat, clearly uneasy and he could almost see the question at the tip of her tongue.
“Spit it out.” He commanded, receiving a heavy sigh in return.
"Why did you invite me here when you could've invited literally anybody else? A colleague or a random woman or your girlfriend. I’m not into gossip but you are a popular topic amongst females."
"It’s you because I want to piss off Erwin. Nothing more, nothing less." The raven snorted. Not only was this woman irritatingly observant, but she had a big mouth and now she was butting into his personal shit. He couldn't let that happen.
"The song ended. I think I should go." She let go of him quickly before turning and disappearing into the crowd in search of Erwin as far as Levi could guess.
He didn’t know what it mattered that it was Erwin and not Mike or somebody else. She wasn’t important. He’d met her today. He realised that. Maybe she was just too happy, too evasive with her answers and too involved with his superiors for it to be normal. Maybe Levi just needed to unvail the mystery around her relationship with his colleagues in order for her to become uninteresting.
The only things he knew about her was she knew his superiors and her name was (Y/N). Had it been any other woman he would’ve heard her whole life’s story by now. (Y/N) had a big mouth and lots of comebacks at the ready but she shared nothing about herself, which made Levi wonder what in the holy grail of fuck she was hiding.
Annoyance building up, Levi told himself to stop reading into everything and headed for the punch table. On the way there, he kept reassuring himself that the mysterious (Y/N) was actually normal and plain, and she just hadn’t the time to sing out all her problems to him yet. His mind was overwhelmed by boredom and had obviously decided to imagine a common peasant girl as some alluring puzzle to be build, a mystery to be unravelled. Which was stupid on so many levels he could not begin to describe it. She was normal and stupid, and girly. She had to be. They all were. All he’d met until now anyway.
And here she fell upon his gaze once again, engaging in a lively conversation with Nanaba, Dita, Ness, Hanji and Mike around the punch table. Great, just when he actually wanted some alcohol.
The (f/c) dress she had on herself, he had to admit, looked beyond appealing when on her. Would look even better off her, he was sure. Had this been his Underground-self, he could bet he’d landed her in his bed and then kicked her out the door already. If she could walk properly that is. Brushing the thought off and nearing the table with a snort, he could hear a part of their conversation.
"I can eat it. Come on, give it to me." (Y/N) challenged and Hanji smirked.
"We start on three." The brunette's hand prepared to stike for the hors d'oeuvres on the silver plates next to the table they were near to as (Y/N) narrowed her eyes. "You could never beat me, (Y/N)."
“I'm betting on Hanji." Ness stated as Dita snorted in support.
"I'm for (Y/N)." Nananba commented and Mike nodded along.
"Why don't we bet on it, Zoe? It's always funnier that way." The (h/c)-haired smirked as the mad scientist narrowed her eyes.
"What is it this time?"
"Why not a bottle of that wine you're hiding in the lab?" (Y/N) inquired casually, making Levi’s brows furrow in confusion. Hanji wasn’t allowed to have alcoh---
"I’m not hiding any wine." Hanji’s forehead was covered in sweat.  Levi would make sure to note the fact she’d snuck alcohol behind Erwin's back. That would make her shut up if she wanted to blackmail him about Eren’s experiments.
"If you say so.” (Y/N) chuckled with a nod.
"Then whatever the winner wishes for."
"Deal. It's fair." (Y/N) and the others around the table voiced their agreement as the brunette nodded and shook hands with the other female.
"Mike, count down. Dita, count my chocolates. Nanaba, count (Y/N)'s."
"Sure." Nanaba went to (Y/N)'s side and watched as Dita made her way to Hanji's. Levi just assumed they were crazy. They weren't really going to have an eating contest in the middle of the ball right?
"Three." Mike started, making Levi step closer but still out of sight for the contestants. "Two." The dirty blonde took a step back, set on being a referee whilst watching the tension grow with Ness at his side. "One." Both women began stuffing their mouths with chocolate candies, making Levi blink in bafflement.
Disgusting. How could two women - not only one - be so unfeminine for God's sake? His face scrunched up and then he felt a hand come in contact with his shoulder. He turned around to face Erwin who was observing the two women stuffing their faces as their friends counted the number of sweets that had already disappeared down their throats.
"Isn't it extraordinary how there's a second woman in the whole world who wishes to have an eating contest with Hanji when even that new cadet Braus doesn't?" The blond questioned, making the raven snort.
"It sure is disgusting."
"Quite a lot actually." Erwin chuckled, making Levi quirk an eyebrow.
"They've done that before?"
"All the time."
"And?"
"It was always a tie."
Someone can eat as much as shitty glasses. It would've been amazing had Levi not been extremely repulsed by the fact both women were being total pigs while performing it. That was one of Hanji's charms indeed, but (Y/N)---
"Some shit happened between you two?" Levi asked as Erwin looked down at him, then his gaze directed itself to (Y/N).
"(Y/N) never held interest in me like that. You're more her type."
"Her type?" He spat the words like venom. Levi hated being categorised like an object.
"Delinquent who breaks the rules. She never fell for the good guy." Erwin smiled nostalgically as if recalling a bittersweet memory as Levi's face scrunched up in confusion and displeasure. Even after all those years Levi'd been following Erwin, his stupid orders and his beliefs, he still thought he was the same thug - the bad boy - he’d pulled out of the Underground?
"You're the good guy, I suppose."
"Kind of. I wouldn't have been a good pair for her anyway. We both knew it and while she got over it, I couldn’t."
"Did Commander Pony have the same probem?" Levi personally thought it was a bigger possibility of himself sleeping with a donkey than (Y/N) and Dok hooki---”
"No, she and Nile slept together once but neither’s willing to admit it up to this day because they still think it a mistake. Anyways - I think the contest finished." Erwin redirected the topic when witnessing the shock on Levi’s face, then left him staring blankly ahead with the words: "I'll go see the results."
"Cavities here we come." Hanji mumbled.
"I was sure I was going to win this time." (Y/N) groaned as the big group of friends passed Levi. Hanji and (Y/N) were rubbing at their jaws and their disappointed entourage followed while Erwin tried to reassure them it was a tie before it’d even started.
Finally grabbing a drink, Levi tried to keep his mind blank and noticed a few women throwing him slutty glances in passing. Naturally, he ignored them since he wasn’t in the mood for a careless fuck even if it would be with a tall blonde with a perfect body. On his fourth glass of wine, the raven-haired male found himself staring at (Y/N) as she excused herself from her group of friends and headed, for some strange reason, his way. The earlier blonde he’d noticed had also began approaching him.
Levi watched (Y/N) stop in her tracks, eye the blonde and snatch a glass of white wine from a passing waiter. She sipped on her drink, patiently waiting for the blonde to get to him. The conclusion made Levi’s brows furrow just as the gifted female started sweet-talking him into a good time without even introducing herself. Displeasire had settled at the bottom of his stomach as he observed (Y/N)’s unmoving figure.
"So, what do you say we go somewhere else? I hear soldiers are exceptionally giving when it comes to the people they protect.” The blonde took a step forward and Levi tried to step back but his waist had long hit the edge of the punch table. In addition, he would like to see what his escort would do when he was getting sexually harrassed in public.
When the blonde had left no space between their bodies, (Y/N) passed her empty glass to a waiter and quickly approached them before grabbing the tall female’s bare shoulder. The blonde squeaked and turned only to meet a very fiery (e/c) glare.
"Excuse me, I think if my partner hasn’t already dragged you into the nearest closet then he’s not really in the mood for sez right now." (Y/N) was calm and the blonde was obviously not having that.
"How would you know?"
"It's written all over his face. Now go steal some married man from his wife instead of messing with the wrong woman at the wrong table full of objects which have the potential to become a weapon." The blonde was scared shitless, guessing by the smirk Levi witnessed on (Y/N)’s face. She was gone in less than ten seconds, leaving a loudly cackling (h/c)-haired female and a bored Levi, feeling his stomach churn unpleasantly.  "God, I love their faces so much!" She exclaimed, then smiled at Levi. "You wanted to bang her or I was right to say you would’ve led her away already?"
"I'm not obliged to answer your dumb questions."
"Yeah, it was a dumb one."
"What happened? Got tired around so many of your ol' friends?" He asked, clearly irritated with her behaviour, which on the other side covered up the fact he wanted to know the answer to an extent.
"I was actually going to ask if you'd dance with me. I noticed you falling in love with the feeling of my boots crushing your toes." She smirked playfully and leaned on the table next to him, making him stare her down in slight bewilderment. He considered the possibility of her being tipsy if not drunk already. He was rolling his eyes when she grabbed his forearm and dragged him towards the middle of the hall. He didn’t complain but he wasn’t bursting with enthusiasm either.
"It's a faster song this time, though." His hands had just settled on her waist as she voiced the warning.
"Twice the fun for me." Levi dragged out sarcastically while (Y/N) curved backwards with a laugh, making Levi's face soften just slightly as she picked herself back up and wrapped both arms around his neck.
"I'll be leading you around the room like crazy." She stated with a smile on her lips, the braid already coming undone above her shoulder as it tickled the soft skin of her neck.
"Leading me?"
"Totally." She grinned at him when the music played and her hands tugged him along, wherever she wanted him to go. Before he knew it they were spinning and he wasn’t in control, but he knew he was either drunk or this woman was truly as interesting as she seemed.
The latter would be rather troublesome for him.
Tumblr media
"You must be drunk." Levi concluded.
He was yet once again so irritated.
And not at anything else. This time it was at himself.
What in all of his right senses and logic had made him fucking escort her home at the end of the night he didn't know. He told Erwin and the others to leave, then went back to the town square knowing nothing of the location of her home as she was slightly limping against his shoulder, laughing at stupid jokes and insults he said, then looked as serious as she could, going back to her gooey mood less than five seconds later.
It was an unending circle and he was getting so annoyed with it. And with himself. Why couldn't he just get this over with?
"Nah. I rarely am." She stumbled and almost fell in that tight dress she wore, but he caught her and rolled his eyes. Both of them reeked of alcohol, but at least he wasn't truly drunk.
"Where do you live?" He asked and she looked around, her narrowed eyes searching for something.
"Why isn't Erwin here? Where is Erwin?"
"Stop asking questions and answer mine. Where do you live?" He repeated this time more harshly. It wasn't because she asked where Erwin was, more because of the fact that she was taking some of his own time for sleeping and rest after such events - not that he would rest anyway, he'd probably start his paperwork or something.
"Oh, I live near the dress store, just at the right alleyway and ahead until you arrive at a pub. Turn left there and look around for a green barrel in front of an old house." She was in serious mode and he thanked the Gods for that, then started leading her away in said directions.
When they arrived at the place, Levi looked up at the old building, reading out the words above the entrance and then looking back at the female that was leaning on him. He would've probably thrown her away until now, but he wasn't that bad.
"This is a pub."
"Oh, yeah, I forgot that I quitted. Well, just leave me off in the street there and I'll go to sleep a little." She wasn't making fucking sense with that sentence.
"Are you fucking mad? Isn't there anywhere else you can stay? At a friend's house or something?" He asked and she laughed, back in gooey mode as he waited for it to wear off.
"I think not. I usually live wherever I get a work at, so I try to find another job before actually quitting the previous one, but this time it was just on impulse and I have nowhere else to go. But really you don't need to bother because of it. I have slept on the streets before. Just leave me off and let's say our farewells." She smiled at him and he scoffed, then let go of her body and she almost fell down, making him roll his eyes and sigh as he picked her up once again, literally throwing her over his shoulder and going back to the town square.
She didn't comply, just giggled from time to time as her hair was swinging from left to right and she was fading in and out of consciousness, making him take deep breaths and try to ignore the urge to do what she had requested of him earlier and leave her on the street.
After he called a carriage and ordered where to, he set her on the seat across from him and she literally fell asleep immediately. He scowled at her and pursed his lips at her peacefully sleeping form, calculating things as many times as possible to make sure he wouldn't be caught in the act with what he was going to do.
It was going to be hard to sneak her in and out of the headquarters, but taking the fact she had no home to go to he could do that much. The HQ wasn't a charity home for people from the streets however, so he would have some problems if anyone were to learn about this. Maybe at the ball Erwin, Mike and the others were long lost friends of hers, but on their territory they were soldiers that had to keep rules, so he couldn't trust them about it either.
Throughout the ride, Levi just took his time to space off while looking either at the night sky through the carriage window or at the woman's sleeping face.
That was until the carriage actually took its stop and Levi paid the driver, then picked (Y/N) up - this time in bridal style - and asked himself how would someone not fucking notice him as he enters. But at last, somehow he managed to get himself and the woman in his arms through the doors of the infirmary, laying her down on a lone bed at the corner of the room just under a window, but just as he was to turn around and leave, unfortunately enough she woke up and looked at him with those big (e/c) eyes of hers in slight confusion and surprise.
"Where are we?"
"I brought you to the HQ. Sleep here and early in the morning I'll come to wake you up."
"I guess it'll be for the best. Wait--- where will I be going afterwards?" She asked and he snorted.
"Nowhere. I'll get you a job at the stables. Or even set you as a cook if you can actually make something that doesn't taste like shit. We'll see." He headed for the door.
"You're actually going to find me a job? Here?"
"I told you not to question my word a lot of times." He clicked his tongue just as his hand went on the doorknob.
"Yeah, I guess you did."
"Just don't let your dumb ass be seen until I come in the morning." He ordered and didn't even need to look at her to know how her face looked at that moment.
"Hey, Levi."
"Hm?" He turned around and his stomach took yet once again an unpleasant for the short corporal turn. He shouldn't have turned. Her grin was facing him - form as messy as it could be on the bed, dress in creases, hair let down, eyes shining more than the fucking moon out of the window - the moonlight was making her visage look as if glowing in a way.
"Thanks for everything." She stated and he stared at her in a slight trance before snapping his head back to the dark hallway outside. With a deep hum resonating in his throat, he nodded and then exited the door, ready to head for his office then finish all work he didn't get to in the afternoon.
Tumblr media
He was walking down the hall with a cup of freshly brewed coffee in hand already knowing that the moment (Y/N) wakes up she would---
"Ah, fuck, my head is splitting in two!"
He heard a loud groan from inside the infirmary and with a sigh, a big check standing in front of the thought he didn't even get to finish before he got there, he entered inside the empty infirmary and his eyes were immediately glued to the figure of the woman on the bed he had left her on last night. Her form was frozen in mid-sit-up, hand to her temple, hair a mess, the sleeve of her dress slipping off her shoulder and showing her skin.
As Levi neared the bed, he caught the smell of soap from her hair and the one of alcohol still coating her body. He sat at the edge of the mattress and she looked at him with a groggy smile, half-lidded eyes grinning in their own way as he handed her the coffee with the words: "Drink some before you get up."
She caught the cup and lifted it to her lips with a pair of shaky hands before pausing and grinning at him.
"Thank you, Levi." He hummed in appreciation. She may have looked like a disaster, her breath may have or may have not smelled, her clothes may have reeked of alcohol and he may have been partly forced into helping her when he could dump her somewhere along the way - and he definitely would have if he was his old self - but something on the inside made him think in that single moment that she was very very beautiful. And he didn't feel so irritated anymore.
And that was so not him.

getting ready for school so here we go again
I’ve been working on this idea for a while, this is just a rough sketch of an AU I lowkey wanna turn into a multi-chap
Lucy sighed for the umpteenth time as she stared out the window, her mind in another place as the teacher drawled on with the lesson. She found herself zoning out like this often, not because she was under a lot of stress or anything, even though it was her senior year.
Besides, Macao-sensei really knew how to talk about one particular fact for twenty long minutes; most of the class was either avoiding his gaze or finding themselves daydreaming at this point.
It had been about four or so months since the school year started and the foolish, idiotic men of Magnolia High still had an annoying pact set in stone, preventing anyone from asking Lucy Heartfilia out.
Who the hell were they to decide who she would date or not?! And what the hell were they planning to do when Lucy actually started dating someone?
The whole bullshit system practically began as soon as she took her first steps onto campus by a group of third years, and the baton had been passed on ever since. Lucy had yet to find out who was at the center of this weird fan group, but they’d face a world of hurt for ruining her high school life like this.
Not that Lucy had especially wanted a boyfriend, wasn’t it just one of those things a girl wanted to experience at least once with someone before college? Lucy had grown up reading a lot of romantic stories that had her wishing to meet someone who wanted to hold and cherish her for something more than her looks.
Lucy blushed at the thought, but she was a grown woman! Some things couldn’t be solved by reading one of Erza’s novels, no matter how many the blonde was given. Although Lucy was pretty sure she was just shoving them onto her so Jellal wouldn’t find out that Erza had such an extensive collection.
She thought she would be quick to accept her first confession, as long as whoever gave it to her had good intentions. If he was smart enough to ignore this shitty pact then, wouldn’t he be a good person to date? It felt like asking too much for him to be a good looking guy that was slightly muscular and had sharp eyes like a warrior…maybe a bit possessive...Lucy blamed Erza for creating such weird standards held in her heart. But any girl would be excited if a pretty boy were to confess his love for her;
“E-E-Eh…?! Y-You’d really want someone like me…?” She flushes as he takes her hand, eyes earnest and unwavering.
“I’ve loved you for a long time...please...You’re the only one for me,” He pulls her close to his chest as he wraps his arms around her and declares that he’ll never let her go.
Something like that seemed a bit dramatic but so what? It was hard for a guy to even befriend her since the rumor being spread that she was supposedly some perfect angel with an incredibly high standard for friends and men.
Lucy wasn’t anything special, she felt that she was your average teenage girl that had a knack for cooking, studying, and was weak for the occasional visit to a cute café. Lucy and her friends had known each other since primary school, but it wasn’t like we weren’t looking for new additions to their group. As long as you were friendly, could get along properly with Erza, and learned to handle Juvia’s obsessive behavior, then they had no issues befriending anyone.
She’d go over the school's intercom and shout those exact words if she didn’t think it’d make her look somewhat desperate and kind of a pervert.
Lucy wanted a boyfriend. She really wanted a boyfriend! And she had wished intensely for someone kind-hearted to enter her life before leaving this school. A little part of her wanted to make a statement to those jerks that started this, but Lucy honestly just wanted to learn how to fall in love. Didn’t she deserve that much?
“Lucy!” Levy shouted and shocked her out of her thoughts, almost startling her out of her desk.
“A-Ah! Gomen, I was spacing out,” Lucy laughed awkwardly as she finally noticed her friends crowding around her desk.
“That’s the third time Levy called you,” Erza pointed out, hand resting on her hip. “You’re not sick are you?”
“Not at all, I was just daydreaming.” Lucy sweatdropped, glad to stop Erza’s train of thought before she was covering her with an unnecessary amount of bandages and shoved into an infirmary bed.
“Class ended a couple minutes ago, didn’t Lucy-san notice?” Juvia asked, her hands clutching her bag straps nervously as she anticipated their leave.
“Yeah, let’s hurry up Lucy-chan, can’t you see Juvia wants to go stare down her crush before he leaves?” Cana hummed, the rest giggling as the blue-haired girl flinched and began to sweat slightly.
“I-Is Juvia that obvious…?”
“Painfully,” Lucy laughed as she stood from her seat and grabbed ahold of her own bag. “Let’s hurry before you miss him.”
“Heartfillia, McGarden! Don’t forget that you two have classroom duties!” Macao-sensei shouted in their direction, halting the group as they were almost out the door.
“Aww man, Lucy I have a job interview to get to! At that charming bookstore too…” Levy sobbed, eyes dramatic as she looked back over her shoulder.
“Don’t worry about it, Levy-chan. I can cover for both of us,” Lucy rolled her eyes but grabbed her hands with a broad grin. “You really need to get that job so I can get a discount on a crap ton of books.”
“Ah! You’re the best, Lu-chan! I’m taking you out for lunch once I do get it!” The shorter brunette clapped as she ran out the door, rushing away to quickly get to the said establishment.
“Are you sure you don’t need any help? I’d be glad to stay behind with you.” Erza offered with a small smile.
“I can handle it, besides I think the two of you need to make sure Juvia doesn’t jump that poor kohai,” Lucy insisted as the antsy girl whisked herself down the hall just as soon as Levy did, muttering consistently about her precious ‘Gray-sama’.
An hour or so later, Lucy was soon walking downstairs with a sigh of relief. Cleaning the classroom wasn’t terribly hard work, but it always took twice as long with half the staff. She deserved a nice long bubble bath tonight.
As soon as she flipped open her shoe locker open, Lucy could have sworn that her heart had stopped beating for a moment. It was as if time stood still, her eyes frosting over at the sight of a very pink piece of paper.
Her hands trembled as she removed the folded slip of paper from atop her shoes, her breath shaky as she opened and read what had been written. It wasn’t possible…had she finally received a love letter…?
Well, not as much a love letter but someone asking to meet her behind the school near the old willowed sakura tree. Who would ask a girl to meet them there if not to confess their love?!
“O-Oh Mavis…I’m a bit too excited, a-aren’t I?” Lucy gulped as she gripped the straps of her bag, clenching the paper that requested her appearance as she began walking through the courtyard. The blonde nervously skimmed back over the note, sighing happily even with the short amount of words left for.
‘Lucy, I’ll be waiting by the sakura tree for you after school lets out. I hope to see you there. Signed Anonymous’
“W-Wait, after school?!” Lucy gasped, noticing the sun setting slightly and the orange tint to the sky, depicting just how late it had gotten. “It’s already so late! What if he left…?!” She hurried her steps as she rounded the school building, thankful that no one seemed to be around to see her rushing towards the tree with such a red face. As she approached the area, her heart began to sink as she looked around, failing to see another person. The one day she decided to take her sweet time…
Her lip quivered as she stood in front of the sakura tree, sad to find no one sitting or standing against it on either side, the surrounding benches empty, and the courtyard deserted. Lucy felt tears prick the corner of her eyes as she sat reluctantly on the wooden seat, feeling a heavy disappointment in her heart. It wasn’t like she could expect him to wait...after all, she was an hour late.
“E-Eh?! L-L-Lucy-senpai?!” A voice sounded from before her, Lucy quickly raising her head to see who it was. His eyes were wide and his face was red, matching his odd pink hair, sharp onyx eyes cast over her as she rushed to wipe her tears away.
“Y-You are…?” She presumed him to be the boy she was to meet and quickly stood up, her bag falling over as the contents spilled around their feet. Frantic, she dropped to her knees to haphazardly shove her back into her bag, the unnamed boy crouching to help her as well. Their fingers brushed lightly against each other as they both reached for her pencil case, their eyes meeting and their embarrassment growing with heat present in their cheeks. “T-T-Thank you.”
“You...Lucy-senpai, you were crying...are you okay?” He asked, holding out his hand to help her up.
“O-Oh! Yes, I’m fine…!” She tried to convince him, hoping her mascara hadn’t run or instead didn’t want to admit how she was crying because she thought he had left her behind. That was if he was the one who wanted to meet her.
“I’m glad you came, I’m sorry I wasn’t here to greet you, I went to get a drink.” He chuckled lightly as he held the bottle of dragon fruit tea up for her to see.
“N-No, I’m sorry I was late, I was doing classroom duties.” She explained, his features lighting up as she said so.
“I’m glad,” He sighed. “I thought you weren’t going to come.”
“What did you need to ask me?” Lucy mumbled quietly as she stared down at her feet, attempting to hide her blush.
“I’m Natsu Dragneel, I’m a first-year...but I still wanted to tell you how much I like you...would you do the honor of becoming my girlfriend?” He bowed, voice thick in the air as his question rang in her ears, her cheeks aflame and her heart hammering in her chest.
The wind rushed past the two of them, scattering the petals of the tree and surrounded them as Lucy lifted her head and met the sight of his still bowed form.
“Yes...I will,”

camp w/ stray kids - jeongin
pairing: jeongin x reader
genre: camp!au; fluff
length: 1.4k words
warnings: so much fluff, you might barf
a/n: this has been in my drafts forever but i never wanted to post it bc i didn’t really like it since im not used to the whole bullet point fic thing asdfgh lmk what you think!!! also @felixthekoala wants jeongin stuff tagged to her, so cait, you’re welcome ;) ly boo. this is also inspired by @luvknow‘s barista au (BRUH THAT WHOLE AU IS THE BOMB READ IT NOW!) in a way where each memaber has a specific role and i wanted to give the bullet point format a try.
Tumblr media
counselor for 7-8 year olds
~ is a c.i.t. bc he’s not old enough to be a real counselor ~ ~ plays with the kids a l o t ~ ~ is the one giving snacks out ~ ~ really steals the snacks all the time tbh ~
so first thing’s first
jeongin is a c.i.t aka a counselor in training since he’s not old enough to be a full counselor
which is totally fine with him bc let’s be real. as cute as this boy may be around babies, do y’all really trust him with the safety of twenty little kids?
yeah i think NOT
so he’s usually responsible for cleaning up after the kids have lunch, handing out snacks and just playing with them during free time.
and he can’t complain
he has fun with it.
don’t tell his fellow coworkers and counselors, seungmin and minho that the kids prefer jeongin over them
it must be his charming smile and interactiveness with the children
he’d be found anywhere the kids were
even during his breaks, he could be found coloring next to a group of kids or helping another group build a lego tower
but by far jeongin’s favorite part of the job has to be the snacks
yes, he hands them out to the kids like he’s supposed to
but that doesn’t mean he can’t have some, right?
so he’s often found in the food cupboard, grabbing handfuls of each tub of assorted snack for his own
and then you come along and catch him red handed
you, a counselor/c.i.t for the older girls ranging from 9 to 13, were sent down to the 7 to 8 year olds’ area of play to get some food since the older girls ran out
and you just walk in seeing this guy around your age stuffing food into his pockets and a mouth full of pretzels is just???
“uhm, hi?”
the boy jumps in horror, turning to see who had caught him.
“I DIDN’T STEAL ANYTHING!” was the boy’s reply and you couldn’t help but scrunch your nose up, watching as some pieces of food escaped his mouth through his muffled shriek
“i’m not saying you did,” you replied smoothly, walking closer to get a look at the assortment of snacks in the cupboard. “mind if i take some for the older girls?”
it was then, when you were standing right beside him, that jeongin registered what was going on.
oh...you were cute.
swallowing the large mouthful, he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “y-yeah, sure! just...don’t tell anyone I’m secretly stealing food.”
peering at his staff shirt, you shrugged, “you work here. doesn’t that give you a valid excuse to be eating food? i’m sure you won’t get in trouble.”
jeongin didn’t reply but simply nodded his head acknowledging what you said. and then mentally smacking himself in the head by realizing you looked like you needed help carrying the three tubs of snacks, he instinctively outstretched his arms.
“need help with that?”
“huh?” you had totally forgotten he was standing beside you and assumed he just left you.
“it’s just...you look like you’re struggling so...”
“oh! well, could you? i could make two trips if i have to, if you’re too busy. that’s al––”
“woah, no! i want to help. besides, busy? you just caught me sneaking the camp’s food into my freaking pockets.”
the boy took two of the tubs out of your hands, leaving you to only carry one of them. the walk to the girl’s common area––it was basically the center between all the girls’ sleeping cabins––was a long one so you were hoping the boy would initiate some sort of conversation to make the tension less noticeable.
“i’m jeongin by the way,” the boy introduced, smiling at you cutely.
oh boy, you thought, cute smile? just end me now.
“y/n.” you couldn’t help but grin back.
“so you’re a counselor/c.i.t. for the older girls? how’s that?”
raising your eyebrows in thought, you shrugged, “it’s fine. the girl’s are super competitive with each other which is both a positive and a negative and they could be pretty bratty. but aside from that, it’s a fun job. You? you’re with the younger ones?”
“yeah,” jeongin hummed with a soft smile. “they’re just too dang cute! and they haven’t really grown enough to be complete troublemakers so they’re not that hard to deal with.”
the two of you talked about anything and everything that popped into your minds and for what felt like two minutes was actually much longer than that.
you arrived at the girls’ section of the campground and you involuntarily pouted.
it was a shame you had to say bye to the cute boy.
“i uh...hope i see you around?” jeongin stammered, the latter part of his statement sounding more like a question.
smiling back at him, you nodded, “you, too.”
and you did.
in fact, you almost saw the guy daily after that.
you often sneaked to the younger kids’ common area to find jeongin and to your content, most times he was there. other times, he would actually use his break to find you wherever you were.
“y/n!” he’d shout with glee, grinning widely when he saw you show up.
soon enough, fellow counselors would catch on to the two of you and your blossoming friendship and of course, they would ship.
“i saw your girlfriend today,” chan, who was a counselor for the older boys, teased his younger friend.
“hyung~” jeongin would whine, covering his flushed cheeks.
unbeknownst to him, you were receiving the same pestering.
“you should come by more often,” minho blurted when you were randomly passing him by on one of the fields.
“huh?”
“jeongin does a really good job when you’re around...like he’s trying to impress you or something,” minho shrugging before smirking, “think about it.” and then he’d leave with a wink.
and to make things more embarrassing for the two of you, the campers started to catch on.
“y/n and jeongin aren’t even counselors for the same group and they hang out all the time,” you once heard one of the older girls whisper in a hushed tone to another girl when you were walking along one of the camp trails.
“aren’t they cute together?!” the other girl shrieked causing you to choke on your own breath. then they’d snap their gaze to you and sheepishly giggle and scamper off.
you stood, blushing a bright red, with only one thought
i have to settle this between us
“so,” you mumbled, sitting on the opposite side of jeongin on the wooden cafeteria bench and table.
his head shot up like a deer in headlights and he was trying not to blush even being in your presence.
“h-hey y/n!”
“what’s up?” your eyebrows were furrowed, noticing how nervous the boy looked.
“n-nothing. my hyungs just keep bothering me and i think it’s getting to me...”
groaning in remembrance, you rolled your eyes, “gosh, same. they sure like to tease me.”
“what did they tease you about?” jeongin piped, avoiding all eye contact with you.
“you,” your reply was blunt and you looked like you were hardly fazed.
but boy, were you shaking on the inside.
“me?”
“mhm, something about visiting you more and making you happy,” you shrugged, pinching your thigh under the table to stop from grinning at the thought.
“oh...”
“you?”
“huh?”
“what do they bother you about?”
“...you...”
“...oh.”
ASLJSDLK
“how so?” you couldn’t help but ask, tracing aimlessly on the table.
swallowing the lump in his throat, jeongin smiled sheepishly, “they call you my girlfriend.”
“oh,” you nodded absentmindedly before your ears perked up. “wait what now?”
“they refer to you as my girlfriend,” he repeated, looking away from you.
lowering your eyebrows to knit them together, you replied flatly, “and that bothers you?”
“yes! wait no, not like that. it does but...ugh,” jeongin covered his face with hands in frustration.
“but?”
“it’s just a reminder that you’re actually not.”
for the first time, jeongin turned to look at you dead in the eyes.
“would...would you like me to be?” you mumbled, looking around the cafeteria, wondering if anyone was actually watching the cringey exchange.
and of course, his hyungs were your audience.
half of them had there thumbs up, wearing wide grins and nods of encouragement.
the other half, well, they looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but there with their covered faces and scrunched up noses.
“we uh, have an audience so please save me the embarrassment and don’t say no––”
“i wasn’t going to,” jeongin smiled softly, cutting you off.

The Gift of Life [part two]
Bakugo Katsuki x reader
Bakugo sat upright in the gurney, which was a bad idea as his back seemed to be on fire. A nurse gently guided him back into the pillows and handed him a glass of water.
“You’re going to be fine. The worst you’ll experience is some pain along your back and slight scarring, but that’s it. You’re clear tomorrow morning. You should thank the girl who saved you. I’m sure she’d be glad to know you’re alright gene she wakes up.”
The nurse began to walk away, but he cleared his throat and called out to her. “How long have we been here?”
The nurse smiled. “Just a day. She probably won’t wake up for a while, so take your time. I have a boy in the waiting area for you. Goes by Kirishima Eijirou. Would you like me to send him in?”
Bakugo slowly nodded and went back to staring at the ceiling. The door creaked open and shut quickly.
“Bakugo?”
“What shitty hair?”
“I need to tell you something. It’s about y/n.”
Bakugo glared at Kirishima. “What?
“W-when she used her quirk, she kinda went over the limit.”
“And?”
“Well, when she does she uses up herself. Its like she kinda stars to decay or something. Like when a flower dies-“
“Shut up shitty hair.” Kirishima clammed yo clenched his fists. “Tell me exactly what you mean. Now.”
“She used up part of her own life.” He nearly whispered. “She nearly killed herself saving you.”
The room went eerily quiet, save for the heart monitor and the natural hubbub of the hospital corridor. Bakugo cleared his throat and tried to talk from behind a choked sob. “W-where-“
“She’s in quarantine.” He interrupted. The doctors didn’t want to hurt her to much while she was healing. They didn’t know what could happen during th process and-“
The nurse came in and Kirishima stopped. “”I have a few more people who would like to talk to you.” She gestured to the small crowd of people behind her. “If you don’t mind.”
He didn’t get to answer. His mother pushed past the nurse and smacked his hand. “What were you thinking? Why the hell did you get in the way! You got shot for fuck’s sake!”
“The hell you yellin’ at me for ya old hag!”
“eXCUSE ME THE PATIENT-“
Katsuki’s father placed a gentle hand on the nurse’s shoulder. “Please don’t worry. I promise this is quite normal for us.”
He said a few more things before the nurse walked away. Katsuki looked back at his mother to see tears in her angry eyes. The other woman who had followed them cleared her throat and stepped to the side of the bed.
“I understand you both are Kirishima Eijiro and Bakugo Katsuki?”
“Yeah, and?” Bakugo felt he was almost at his limit.
“My name is Anaka. I’m y/n’s mom. You’re the boy my daughter rescued.” Though they came from a place of kindness, the words seeped into his skin and pricked at his veins like poison. “For what it’s worth, I’m glad it was you.”
“Excuse me?” Mitsuki turned her attention to the woman. “What exactly do you mean?”
“My daughter and your son have been friends for a while.” She began to explain. “Why, she used to come home and talk about you all the time. Even after you all moved into the dormitories she still told me about you. I would’ve thought you two were dating by now! But when I found out what happened, I’m glad it was you she saved.” She smiled at him and left. Bakugo fell back into the bed and closed his eyes. Limit: reached.
Tumblr media
A yellow glow surrounded her still frame. Her chest rose and fell in even breathes. Bakugo clutched his red shirt in his callused fists. He had been discharged two days ago, but he had been waiting here every moment he could just to be there when she wakes up.
Bakugo looked at the nearest clock. It was almost five. In ten minutes, he would be asked to leave.
The heart monitor took up an irregular beat and he looked back at her. The yellow light had gone and he was now slowly waking up. She attempted clawed at the tube in her mouth as the heart monitor went crazy.
”NURSE! NURSE!” He looked around but no one was close enough. He threw open the door and ran to her side.
”y/n! y/n, it’s okay. It’s okay please stop oh my god NURSE! HURRY!”
Footsteps cane from the hallway and someone pushed him back. People surrounded her. He watched as they removed the tubes and the IV until someone pulled him out and shut the door.
“Visiting time is over, son. You best go home.”
Bakugo felt numb as he walked to the train. He felt numb as the cart swayed beneath his feet. He felt numb as slammed his bedroom door shut. He felt so numb.
Tumblr media
The weekend came and went, with it finally Monday arrived.
Bakugo glared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror. Toothpaste dribbled from his lips to the toothbrush down into the sink. Small, purplish bags had begun to form under his crimson eyes, due to the stress of y/n’s unknown condition. The entire weekend he had spent just waiting. Waiting for her to get better. Waiting for the doctors to tell him something. Waiting to hear her say his name again. Waiting to be able to see her.
He had never felt so helpless.
He spit into the sink and went about with his daily routine. His phone buzzed from the table nearby, but he didn’t touch it. He grabbed his bag and slammed the door on his way out.
He groaned on his way done the stairs. His back began to ache from the stitching. The doctors had told him to take it “as easy as possible,” but like hell he was going to do that shit.
When he finally made it to the school, he was met by a small white animal in a suit. It turned to him and smiled.
“Ah! Young Bakugo. I needed to talk to you.”
He stopped. “Uh, What?”
The rodent gave him eerie smile. “I am principal Nezu. I need to talk to you about the recent events you have become involved in. Please, follow me.”
Bakugo trailed behind the small rodent man back to the dorms.
“You will stay here for the day. Not as punishment, but as a necessity. You’re class is only experimenting with the physicality’s of their quirks. Here is a pass to leave campus.” He handed over a laminated card. “And there will be someone for you here in roughly twenty minutes. Please don’t over do it. It would be a shame for you to leave or school due to paralysis.” The rat man left and Bakugo stared at the wall.
Someone coughed from behind him and he whipped around. Present mic was watching from an armchair. “Eraser head asked me to look out for you until she arrives.”
“She-?”
“Just, only use the microwave and play some video games. I don’t know, put on something more flattering than a half-assed school uniform.” Present mix walked out to the door, but stopped and turned back to Bakugo. He looked tired and stressed, as if Aizawa had transferred his soul to the other faculty like an infectious disease. “And be careful. Not everyone appreciates it when you’re always loud.”
Present mic walked away and Bakugo went towards the elevators. He punched the button to go up and waited. The building was surprisingly quiet.
He heard a sound from behind him and turned. A Roomba zipped over the carpet and into someone's room. He turned back to elevator and waited.
Tumblr media
Bakugo twisted a stray thread from his tank top in his hands. The elevator hummed around him, setting him on edge. He still wasn’t sure wasn’t sure who or what was supposed to be there. He wasn’t even sure they would be there.
The machine dinged and the doors creaked open. Bakugo stepped out from the contraption and his eyes surveyed the area. Not one speck of dust out of place.
Katsuki walked over to the long brown couch and collapsed into the cushions. They smelled of a mix of sweat, orange soda, and brown sugar somehow. Katsuki righted himself and stared at the clock against the wall. The incessant ticking filled his mind. He growled and clutched one of the cousin cushions, burning a small black scorch into the backside of it.
Footsteps echoed on the hardwood floors and he whipped his head around to look. y/n stared back.
He felt his heart become solid. The natural sunlight seemed to give her an ethereal glow as the cool breeze gently played with the hem of her shirt. y/n dropped her head and closed her eyes.
“Look, Bakugo. I know what you’re going to say but I had to-“
“Katsuki.”
“Hm?” She looked up at him with confusion. Bakugo made his way to her side.
“Call me Katsuki. And no. You didn’t have to risk your life for me you fucking idiot-“
“Well I couldn’t just let you die-“
“Yes you could!” In a matter of seconds, such a gentle moment had turned into a raging argument. “The fucking doctors could’ve stitched me up all good and new but nOo, you just had to risk your fucking life and try to save me and almost kill yourself in the process huh? Who the FUCK would that have benefited?”
“The bullet hit your spinal cord. If it didn’t kill you, you would’ve been paralyzed from the waist down anyways!”
“SO?!”
“SO?! SO IS IT BAD THAT I’D RATHER YOU’D BE HAPPY TO BE ALIVE THAN DEAD OR WISHING YOU’D DIED?”
“I’D RATHER BE ALIVE IF YOU WERE HERE.”
“YEAH WELL SAME HERE DIPSHIT.” The room fell quiet as they stared at each other, panting. “I couldn’t let you die. I need you here, Katsuki.”
Bakugo threw his arms around her, almost tackling her to the ground. Cautiously, y/n placed her arms around him. “I need you too, idiot.” He finally met eyes with her. “I l-l... I lo-“
y/n hurriedly presses her lips to his. He pulled her closer, never wanting to lost the taste of her.
y/n pulled away for air. “Katsuki, I’m not going anywhere. I love you too.”
He pulled her close again. The room fell quiet (save the Roomba performing his deeds).

Special Chapter 1: Resolutions of the New Year Variety.
Alright here it is, the one I’ve been talking about and goodness me, it’s massive, it might be the longest chapter I’ve written so far except for Act 1, Ch 2. Anyway I actually had ideas to do this since back in early September or maybe late August? Either way listening to a certain song or two with a picture in my mind allowed me to create this as an idea and because of this inspiration, I chose to do this instead of other things like a proper Christmas chapter, so hope it’s worth it? Now just enjoy them being pretty chill I guess. Happy New Year everyone, hope you all have a good one.
The blue sweater wearing skeleton gave an exasperated sigh, ‘’Why can’t you just stop being so difficult? It’s going to be lots of fun, trust me’’. The spider watched Sci’s pleading smile with a look of pure annoyance and doubt, ‘’No, I sincerely wish no part of this silly farce that you call a celebration, who gives a damn if it’s a new year, it doesn’t mean anything. There is way, way more important things that can be done this night instead of what you plan.’’ She took an aggressive step towards Sci while crossing her arms, ‘’From what I can tell your plan includes, filthy dirt, cold biting wind and the only pay off will be some stupid explosives being chucked at the sky in a pointless fashion to give some dumb amusement when the money wasted on it could be well invested in something much more beneficial… you got any good reason in that skull that I should come along with this group of ours?’’ Sci furrowed his non-existent brow, ‘’Well when you put it like that, then it’s going to be quite tough… hmmm food will be there, as well as good company?’’ Unsurprisingly she looked unimpressed, ‘’All things I can get without going outside and that’s my final verdict.’’ Sci scratched the back of his head with a slight smile, a slight hint of amusment in his expression, ‘’Your final verdict? There’s no way you would change your mind? Anything I can do?’’ ‘’Give it up right now friend, stop wasting your time and leave if that’s all you’re here for.’’ Muffet shot a web from her wrist at the door handle behind Sci and with a twist and pull, the door opened, signalling the exit. Trying to ignore the questionable physics of the action, Sci started to head out the door, ‘’Well that’s a real shame, guess we’ll have to go without you, well I sincerely hope you have a good night’’ The last thing that the skeleton heard as he closed the door behind him was, ‘’Whatever, you too I guess’’. Sci let out a deep breath and headed into the next room with a mischievous grin on his face, rubbing his hands together, he sense of purpose as he went on his way. Leaning on a wall in the adjacent hall was Clover, as he approached she stopped scrolling on her phone, putting it in her right pocket as she stood up.  The way she had full attention on him made it obvious that had been waiting there for him, but Sci already knew that. ‘’How did it go Mr Minister, was it a success?’’ The monster sighed and shook his head, putting both of his arms behind his back in a dramatic fashion. ‘’No Private, unfortunately this operation will be marked down as an extreme failure, no recovery was possible for anyone, you know what this means right?’’ Clover stifled a laugh and failed to hide her own grin, her voice also betraying her as it was filled with amusement despite the mock horror she was attempting to do. ‘’My god, no, you can’t actually be talking about… using that can you?’’ Sci pulled down the brim of an imaginary cliché military general’s hat. ‘’I’m afraid so Private, it appears we have no choice but to use our weapon of mass destruction, to think we would be brought to use such desperate measures, I’ll feel sorry for our enemy once it’s over, nobody deserves to come face to face with such an almighty force’’.
‘’Hey Miss? Am I allowed to come in?’’, Asgore opened the door slightly and poked his head in. Muffet found some minor relief in that it was a fluffy head showing and not a skull coming through, ‘’Yes you can come in, but close the door behind you’’. The goat child didn’t really need to be told that, the drill was always the same. With a smile he walked in and did as he was told, walking through the sunless room over to Muffet, she was now just sitting at her mirror doing some sort of make up with a powder, things that he imagined would forever elude him. Knowing that the spider was waiting for him to explain his visit, he didn’t waste time before speaking, ‘’So ummm, I heard you weren’t coming with us for our New Year’s celebration, why’s that?’’ There was a groan, of course it was about that, why couldn’t these guys just leave her alone with this type of thing. ‘’Because it’s a waste of time, I mean if you want to celebrate, you can just do it in the comfort of your own abode.’’ ‘’But doesn’t it get boring staying at home all the time?’’ ‘’You should never complain about comfort dearie, you never know when it could be taken away from you’’. Asgore started to give a little bit of an annoyed pout as he walked over and sat on her bed, watching Muffet finish her make up and stand up, turning to now have all her eyes on the goat. ‘’Isn’t it good to have some form of variety… and fresh air?’’ ‘’Then I’ll open a window, might be nice to get a light breeze through. Variety is good when you’re bored, but child, I have yet to get bored.’’ ‘’We’ll bring some alcohol, you like that stuff.’’ The spider let out a loud, irritated groan, ‘’Stop listing things that I can do here, you’re trying my patience… if you don’t have anything else, leave or my children will come for you tonight’’. Asgore took a deep breath, a determined expression becoming dominant, despite her threats he wasn’t going to back down, she hated it when he got like that, why couldn’t just submit like a normal person. ‘’Well fine then. But we both know that I can promise you it’s going to be a good time, an even better time when you’re around’’. ‘’You bloody well can’t, don’t try that poppycock with me’’, her sneer towards him increased, but as expected it had no effect. ‘’We’ve been through this a bunch of times Muffet, every single time I’ve pulled through. You’ve always admitted to me that you’re glad you came to whatever event we ended up planning, it’s a song and dance that happens every time and ends the same… and uh well, it just feels like there’s a big part missing when you aren’t there, like we’re nowhere near complete without you, I really like it when you come’’. Muffet remained silent, still watching the boy’s face, an honest smile that didn’t appear to be holding any sort of deceit, the way his eyes went big as he talked about what he was feeling, it made her… ‘’Please, please, please? C’mon, please Muffet, just for tonight?’’ ‘’….Fine’’ ‘’Pardon?’’ The spider sounded like he had to force her words out with a groan, ‘’Fine, I’ll go alright? Just don’t make a big deal about it… and don’t hug me or I take it back’’. Asgore grinned excitedly, ‘’Yay, thank you so much, it’ll be the best, I promise. Also, don’t worry, I know the drill. Would you like me to let you get ready?’’ ‘’Yes please, I would like a little alone time before our outdoor venture’’. With a positive spring in his step he jumped off the bed and left the room quickly, although being extra careful not to slam the door behind him in case of invoking her wrath.
Alphys put down very cliché looking picnic basket and folded up chequered rug onto the grass, looking out over the view given to them by a green, grassy hill that was on the outskirts of the town which could still be seen in the distance. She took in one deep breath and let it out with a newfound feeling of relaxation, a feeling she wish she was more familiar with. ‘’S-so uh, wh-where d-did you guys find th-this place? Seems quite um o-out there?’’ Clover had been following just behind Alphys, being the guide of the duo, she started to unroll the rug. ‘’A school camp we went on around here, had some free time so a small group of us just decided to uh… wander off a little bit and we found this over the town look out thing. Remembered it Boxing Day and figured it ain’t to bad of a viewing spot for the show’’. She decided to ignore the blatant irresponsibility of the start of that statement and focus on the positives, ‘’And y-you’re sure th-that we’re g-going to be able t-to see the f-fireworks from h-here?’’ ‘’Don’t you stress, I assure you that we’ll have a perfect view, they fire off around this side of town. Don’t you trust us Al?’’ ‘’N-no, I t-trust y-you, I j-just wanted to ch-check that’s all. I b-believe you’ve done w-well… any i-idea how l-long the o-others are g-going to be?’’ Clover shrugged, ‘’Dunno, possibly another twenty minutes, Sci and Asgore just had to do something back home and then they planned on buying some other stuff possibly, I’m assuming they’ll be done soon.’’ Alphys nodded and smiled, sitting down on the rug that Clover had finished setting up, ‘’I w-was r-really surprised th-that this was y-your idea, Asgore or Sci would be understandable, b-but you? Is th-there a r-reason why?’’ Clover crossed her arms with a mildly annoyed look, ‘’What do ya mean why? Can’t I contribute or something? What’s the issue?’’ The lizard monster shook her head in a slight panic at the accusing tone the human was giving, ‘’N-n-no there’s n-no issue, j-just you’ve n-never really g-given s-suggestions l-like this… didn’t th-think it was your th-thing y-you know? Y-you don’t h-have tell me o-or anything l-like that’’. The cowgirl let out an almost inaudible laugh and uncrossed her arms, giving a smile that wasn’t exactly happy, some hesitance showing up in her voice, ‘’It’s fine Al, just… this was something I used to do on New Years Eve, before Mt Ebott, back when I was with…’’, she sighed and pulled the brim her hat up, looking at the cloudy sky, the yellows and oranges of dusk starting to take form although it would still be a while before night actually fell. ‘’… back then we just used to hang out and stay up until midnight out on the grass like this and we’d eat food, talk to each other and just… I-I guess just umm enjoy the night air, to celebrate another year alive and well, I just wanted to…’’, she stopped and appeared to be trying to form her thoughts and perhaps just regain her composure, Alphys could swear she looked down to hide her eyes for the moments of silence. ‘’It just means a lot to me and before I’ve always done it all by myself and well umm… I just really uh… I really wanted to share this with you all, I guess.’’ The monster could tell the difficulty of every word at the end, honestly it surprised her that she was telling her any of this in the first place. The amount of effort put into that answer couldn’t put anything other than a kind, heart warmed smile. ‘’Clover… I know th-that we all a-appreciate you sharing th-that, I think i-it’s a good idea.’’ While Clover started looking a little embarrassed, yet she still allowed herself hopeful smile, ‘’You really think so? Cause I mean, I’m sure you ain’t don’t any of that emotional crap for a simple celebration, don’t worry ‘bout it.’’ Alphys shook her head, ‘’No, I th-think it’s w-wonderful y-you know? I th-think it's g-great that y-you have something sp-special like that… I j-just hope we d-don’t disappoint y-you or r-ruin your e-expectations’’. The human walked over to the monster and sat down next to her, the both of them watching the town in the distance and all the nature in between them, taking in the calm and relaxing atmosphere, ‘’Don’t worry about a thing, I’m sure everything will be good, you guys don’t disappoint’’.
It was an uneventful hour later before the other three arrived, arriving with another bag of supplies and Muffet who was carrying one bottle of liquor in each hand, it wasn’t certain how much she was planning on sharing. It wasn’t very long of waiting and setting up some of the biscuits and dip out before the kids got restless and started fighting a little bit further down the hill, some flashes of yellow and sounds of metal could be heard as bullets went flying and a trident kept trying to make contact. ‘’S-so uh Muffet, why d-did you decide t-to come down here in th-the end? I r-remember you saying that y-you weren’t going to b-be here.’’ The sudden question made Muffet look over with an expression of dismissal, ‘’I just chose of my very own accord that I shall be present at this event, does there need to be any other reason?’’ Sci gave Alphys a wink, ‘’Oh ho ho, I think I know the reason’’, his gaze turned to Muffet, his familiar mischievous grin returning to him, ‘’I reckon someone else convinced her’’. The spider growled, returning the skeleton’s gaze with her very own glare, ‘’You think you’re so damn clever don’t you? But I’ll have you know, he doesn’t have anything to do with it, I assure you, he never has and never will, every action I take is from my own free will’’. ‘’Oh, you don’t think so? You wouldn’t be lying would you?’’ Despite all the hints and suggestions Sci was making and the blunder Muffet had made, Alphys just looked confused, ‘’W-wait whose him? Y-you d-don’t have a g-guy in y-your life n-now d-do you?’’ ‘’What?! NO!’’ The female scientist seemed be slowly losing herself in her imagination, a dreamy smile appearing on her face to match her state. ‘’A g-guy who h-has made it h-his quest to b-break through y-your barriers and th-then while you’ll hate him at f-first, s-soon you’ll realise you’re falling f-for this idealistic man, s-someone who can sh-show you th-the light in y-your p-pessimistic w-world view’’. ‘’I swear to fucking god Alphys, if you don’t get those shipping ideas out of your head right now, I’m going to end your miserable existence!’’ Fury was written all over her eyes and face as she stared at Alphys with burning rage, which in response elicited a slightly nervous and possibly frightened laugh. ‘’Ummm Ch-charles?’’ ‘’If you’re seriously thinking that the me and Charles are together, then I think that you won’t be seeing next year… you want this to be your final resting place?’’ ‘’Oh g-osh, n-n-no, no, no, no, n-no p-please d-don’t…’’, her panic rose in a large jolt as slowly she could seen a small shine of a sharp, well-polished metal sliding out of the countess’ sleeve and into view, even Sci was starting to adopt a nervous smile as he watched the conversation unfold. ‘’… I j-just m-meant th-that maybe h-he was th-the one th-that convinced you, th-that’s all I swear… j-just d-don’t d-do anything please.’’ Muffet’s unfiltered rage was apparent as she looked over Alphys’ expression as she panicked about, looking for any sign the she may be lying, any shred of deceit in her movements and any excuse to cut her down, but the only thing she could comprehend was the face of a scared, foolish but honest girl. With a slight move of her arm, the blade slid back into her sleeve for no perceivable, physical reason. Instead now picking up a bottle of wine and opening it. ‘’I’m already regretting my decision to come here, you fools aren’t allowed this bottle anymore’’. She said right before taking a large gulp from the bottle itself. Alphys was now just trying to calm herself down, feeling as if though she had just barely survived that conversation with her life, struggling to slow down her breathing. After about another half a minute of waiting, she spoke up. ‘’Uh b-but Sci, w-were you t-trying to s-suggest something b-before wh-why did sh-‘’. ‘’I think it’s best if we leave it at that alright Al?’’, Sci shook his head, both giving a glance to Muffet who was shooting razor sharp daggers with her eyes. ‘’Y-yeah, I guess y-you might b-be right.’’
Three streaks of yellow flew past the goat’s head as he sidestepped to the right, watching the barrel of the opponent’s gun to determine where to dodge. Bringing his trident back behind him, wasted no time after the dodge to close the distance on Clover, swiping with it left and then right, although only managing to tug at her clothes as she nimbly dodged his attacks, his trident only finding air to his immense annoyance. With a large grin, Asgore brought the trident above his head, feeling its weight before preparing to bring it down. Unfortunately for him, Clover found an opening, punishing him for his greedy extra attack, she quickly lifted the gun up to his face, sticking the barrel right on his nose and Asgore’s expression faltered as he could only watch as the gun quickly glowed yellow. The last thing the goat saw was the human’s own cocky grin and then suddenly his world flashed yellow along with the feeling of getting hit by a car. It took a good extra ten seconds before Asgore managed to feel like he could even move, the sky filling in the yellow sheet that had been his eyesight only moments previous. He tried to sit up but suddenly found a large weight on his chest, looking up to find Clover with one boot on him to pin him, watching her familiar victorious smile as she spun her gun around her finger. ‘’You alright there pardner? Couldn’t help but notice that you’ve seemed to have been caught in an accident of some kind’’, the gloating in her tone was clear as usual, always having to rub it in just a little bit, even if it was all fun and games. She lifted her foot off the goat and offered him help. The prince let out a sigh and then a chuckle as he took her hand, letting her assist him as he got off the ground, ‘’Yeah, I wonder how that happened, you wouldn’t happen to know anything about that would you?’’ ‘’I mean, I have heard my great humour, general charm and excellent wit has blown people away before, but I never realised my personality was so good it could do it to people literally’’ In his eyes, there was only one correct response to Clover’s rubbish more than the eye roll he’d given her. ‘’Ugh just shut up’’. ‘’Well that’s just mighty rude to be towards someone who helped you from a fall, maybe next time I’ll just have to leave you in the dust… like I do with everything else we compete on… Ow, you little shit.’’ Clover rubbed her arm after taking a whack from a trident, Asgore shrugged, ‘’Sorry, I couldn’t help myself, sometimes I feel like the only way to get some sense into you is to smack it in’’. The human grumbled a little as she gave a, admittedly weaker, punch to the other’s arm. ‘’Whatever, I’ll leave you in your denial’’ He found temptation to hit her again, but decided that was enough for now, plus he wanted to ask her a different question, ‘’So uh how’re you feeling?’’ ‘’Pretty good honestly, the swift winds of victory-‘’ ‘’No not that, about today and this whole thing?’’ Her smile fell a little, ‘’Oh, that… fine I think, it’s going to be good… I um told Alphys about the reason and all that, that was interesting I guess’’. Asgore smiled, noticing a form of uncertainty in her that he felt was his duty to dismantle. ‘’Well I think that’s good, nothing wrong with opening up to others a little more. Honestly I think it’s been quite brave of you to not only suggest this but also tell Al all that.’’ Clover shrugged and shook her head, ‘’Don’t give me all that complimenting crap, we both know this what you wanted, your suggestion and all that, maybe I should ask if this is what you wanted’’. He crossed his arms, his smile not leaving him despite the accusation, a small laugh leaving his lips that showed the only thing on his mind was positivity, ‘’I didn’t make this happen, I just thought that maybe it would be a fun time for the group and you’d maybe get to relive some of those memories you had back in the day. Sure, I gave you a slight push, but you wouldn’t have done it if you didn’t want it.’’ ‘’I mean, I guess you’re right, though still, stop calling me brave like you’re an adult talking to a kid or whatever, it’s fucking weird man.’’ ‘’Awww, but my Clover is just growing up so fast’’. Asgore managed to get a giggle out before he went wide eyed as around 10+ yellow bullets started floating up above Clover, barely a moment passed before they were pelted at him painfully, all of them disappearing in a small puff as they made contact. ‘’Aggh… heh ok yeah I guess I deserved that one’’ The Cowgirl’s annoyed expression turned to an amused one once her barrage was over, ‘’Really, what tipped you off?’’ ‘’Heh sorry… how about we head back to the others, I’m sure they’re just dying to see us’’. The goat turned to start doing just as he said when a small call out of his name made him turn his head to look back at Clover. ‘’Hey Asgore… thanks… for helping.’’, her words were quiet and soft as she watched him, her eyes only being barely visible beneath her hat. He responded with a shrug, ‘’Don’t mention it, what are friends for?’’ He waved his arm in a beckoning motion, ‘’Well come on, how about focus on some more positive stuff.’’ The five were sat down together having just eaten food, some candles were lit as night had fallen and midnight was approaching. After several discussions there fell a silence among the group and a certain kid decided that it was the perfect time to but in with his own proposition. ‘’Hey, have you all thought about what your new years resolutions are going to be? Got any planned changes you want to make for the coming year?’’ The silence and uncertainty among them put a slight dent in Asgore’s confidence, ‘’Really, none of you have?’’ ‘’Heh what about you kid? Can’t have bone to pick with us if you haven’t done anything yourself’’. ‘’Oh well of course I have, I simply have a resolution to keep on moving forwards and taking on every challenge that comes my way… guys what’s the matter? Why the look?’’ The other four had an almost scary synchronised look that conveyed their unimpressed feelings, Asgore could almost feel some cold sweat dropping down his head from just looking at them all. ‘’Uh A-Asgore, I’m n-not sure how to p-put this but umm… well…’’ ‘’It’s not a resolution at all dearie’’ Muffet’s pleasant tone with obvious venomous intent struck the goat with a confused tilt of the head, ‘’You really don’t think so? What’s the problem?’’ Clover sighed, ‘’To put it in a more kind way, what you just said isn’t a resolution because that’s just you anyway, that’s just normal passive Asgore, you need to give us some way you can change… also what you said was super damn vague, how the hell are we meant to measure that as a success or failure?’’ Sci watched the sky for a few moments as he pondered the different thoughts spinning around his head, soon enough he looked at Asgore, a small smile lighting up his skeletal features, ‘’I think maybe we should all just share a small thing we’re going to do differently, an actual goal, like for example me…’’, he paused as he brought his hand to his mouth in what appeared to be a thinking position, trying to think quickly of what he would do. ‘’I guess a part of me would probably think that… cutting down on work hours just a little bit could do me good, also leave the house just a bit outside of work, maybe something like one of those camping trips you keep talking about Asgore, I think I just probably need to get away from technology and society for a bit… my resolution will be to try and dedicate less of my life to work and more to just living I guess, is that ok?’’ The other scientist of the group nodded, returning a smile to the skeleton, ‘’I-I think th-that’s perfect Sci… th-though I d-doubt I could c-come up with anything l-like yours though.’’ ‘’Phew, was a little worried it was going to fall flat, but none of you have to come up with anything like that, just something small will suffice, who wants to go next? I’m sure someone has something’’. He couldn’t help but feel surprise at hearing someone step up so readily as he did expect at least a few moments of silence, but the spider’s throat clearing noise brought everyone to attention. ‘’Well I’m going to go now just to avoid the nagging and get this painful ordeal over and done with.’’ Muffet took a big gulp of her glass of wine that had been brought before explaining, ‘’Under the assumption that I’ll be attacked for saying something like maximising my profit margins or whatever other lingo I come up with, I suppose I’ll do something you call more… reasonable… like being more sociable? Is that what you want?’’ Clover quickly darted in with the questions, ‘’How do you plan on doing that? What actions do you plan to take?’’ A slight groan came before her next words, ‘’Well dearie, if you really must know, I’ll just join a Chess Club or something, that way I’ll get to talk to new people while at the same time I won’t have to team up with anyone, I can spend my attention on utterly destroying my enemies… does that please your inquiry little cowgirl?’’ The spite in her words and the condescending tone made the human really want to the throttle the spider, shooting her own glare at the other’s eyes, ‘’Yeah I guess that’ll do just fine, pompous lit-‘’ ‘’Uh h-how about w-we move on now?’’, a nervous small voice was the surprising factor that suddenly ended the fight for the time being, Alphys now looking uncertain as all gazes turned to her. ‘’Oh umm, I-I guess it’s m-my turn ummm… let me th-think.’’ The others watched the lizard mumble to herself as she tried to consider what she could do, but nothing she felt was super meaningful came to her head, just minor things, guess that’ll have to do. ‘’Umm w-well, it’s a little cliché and it’s probably uh not that s-significant to you guys, but uh maybe I c-could go to the gym or s-something? Since I sit d-down all the d-day and don’t r-really do anything at home and at w-work so I’m umm… I… guess I c-could probably lose a l-little weight maybe? Even if not th-that, it’s healthy to g-get exercise so starting once a w-week, I’ll go to the g-gym, maybe go for a walk o-or jog on o-other days too.’’ The first response she heard (which made her worry that she wasn’t being taken all that seriously) was loud laugh from Asgore who had the biggest grin on his face, ‘’Oh my goodness, that’s an amazing idea, I mean won’t it be like training those anime protagonists do for some great battle?’’ Some form of relief washed over her face and all worry was replaced with a nervous smile, closing her eyes as she scratched the back of her head, ‘’I m-mean, I guess th-that’s true… th-though I want to sign to the gym, not a g-great battle’’. ‘’Heh, well I think I might join you on some of those runs and stuff, I always feel doing something with someone else helps you stay on track, plus it makes things much less boring. Oh uh only if you want to of course, if you don’t want me to just let me know.’’ ‘’O-oh no, no, no, th-that’s perfectly fine Asgore, I um th-think I would g-greatly appreciate that, th-thank you.’’ Alphys’ expression became much calmer as she offered the kid her hand, him shaking it without any sort of hesitation. ‘’Alright now, I’m going next and you ain’t saying shit about it.’’ Clover crossed her arms, ‘’My resolution will be to start getting some cash.’’ ‘’Don’t give us that bullshit, I’m not allowed to say money how come you can’’. ‘’Because my dear spider, it’s all about fucking context, something I thought you’d be able to see with all those eyes of yours’’ Sci decided now was probably the time to bring in the voice of reason, ‘’Alright now, how about you tell us your plan.’’ The human let out a deep breath and went on to her explanation, ‘’Well since I’m getting to that sort of age, I figure that maybe I could get a job and start saving for some important stuff, like something to do after school and on weekends. A simple but effective resolution, will that suffice for my part of all this?’’ ‘’Yeah kid, I think that’s fine’’. The attention of the group now turned to Asgore, the prince was now thinking as he looked at the ground, as he tried to figure where he stood in this situation. ‘’All of you came up with positive changes you could make, but… I’m not exactly sure what I want to change, at least not right now.’’ He felt worry as nothing just popped into his head that he could tell the others. That was until his face changed to one that expressed realisation and a small smile appeared. ‘’Well I think, even if it isn’t necessarily something that’ll help me or change me, but I think that I want to get involved in some outside of school activities, maybe like charity work or something? Hey Muffet, you think Mary would like some help with the stuff she does?’’ Muffet rolled her eyes before giving the goat a confirming nod, ‘’Yes I’m sure she would love your help, especially from you, she’d probably adopt you kids on the spot if she could… she thinks you’re that cute… bloody weird honestly’’. Asgore played with some of the fur on his ear, ‘’Well with great fluff like this, it’s no wonder I charm everyone around me… but anyways, I think my New Years Resolution will be to help others, if I’ve yet to think of someway to improve myself, I’ll just improve everybody else’s day just a bit more, so I’ll help with charity work on weekends and stuff and generally when I’m available, I’m going to make that my new vow. Will you all allow me to use that as my resolution?’’ The rest of them thought for a few small moments before nodding or smiling, different signs of acceptance that gave the kid a little spark of hope that he’d needed to repair his hurt confidence. Muffet allowed herself a small smile as she took another sip of her drink, ‘’Well I personally think that’s… reasonable.’’ ‘’Y-yeah th-that sounds g-good. That’s e-everyone r-right? We all h-happy with th-that?’’, the nervous voice softly squeaked as the smaller scientist looked around at everyone. The skeleton let out a small chuckle to go along with his calm, lazy grin, ‘’Yeah I think that does it, sharing time is over I guess. Went a little better than expected honestly’’. Then finally, as if to complete the set, Clover piped in with a large sigh of relief, ‘’Oh thank god, can we please move on from this touchy feely stuff, I feel like I’ve hit my limit with it all, how about we move onto the cool, exciting stuff.’’
‘’Alrighty pardners, 20 seconds left, we’ve almost survived, just a little longer!’’, Clover yelled out as she held a phone out in front of her, watching the time tick down. ‘’It’s g-going to b-be coming from o-over there isn’t it? We’re going to b-be able to see it?’’ Alphys’ worry came through her voice as she looked around at the others who were gazing around the sky in the direction of the distant town downhill. ‘’Have no fear, I swear it on my honour that we’re going to be in the perfect position, have a little faith, ‘’Asgore exclaimed loudly! ‘’The kids won’t let us down, it’ll be fine’’. Sci calmly spoke. ‘10’ ‘9’ ‘8’ ‘7’ ‘6’ ‘’Ain’t no better way to end it but with a bang’’ ‘3’ ‘2’ ‘1’ ‘’HAPPY NEW YEAR’’ Finally with that yell, the sky was suddenly filled with bangs and colour as the fireworks in the distance were set off. An unbelievable amount of colours were used, starting off with Red and Green to then Blue and Yellow, mixing them all up in different patterns at a fast pace, one exploding after another to make sure your eyes didn’t find a lull in the light show. Purple and Orange were added to the list along with different shades of the previous colours to just add that bit more variety. The sky was the canvas and it was being painted on with brilliant lights and patterns, the fireworks bright enough to light up the around the observers in all the different colours. As it came near the end, Pink and White were added to the mix and the fireworks were starting to go off incredibly fast, a machine gun of these flammable rockets as if somebody had told them that it was ending and that they needed to fire off every single one they had right at this moment. One and then another, right with another one, Pink, Green, Red, Blue, Purple, Orange and then White before finally the sky returned fully to a Dark Blue and the sounds of the night returned to silence. ‘’I say that we toast for another great year for us all, one that will allow us to have plenty of opportunities to be the people we want to be’’. Asgore cheered out as he raised his cup. ‘’Puhuhuh~ I suppose that’s something I can raise a glass too’’, Muffet smiled as she raised her glass up. ‘’Heh not bad kid, I reckon we can make this the best year we’ve had if we try.’’ Sci looked at his empty glass and considered filling it before deciding not to both and raising it up. ‘’Yeah alright, ain’t that bad, just want to make sure this year doesn’t get boring, let’s make this the most interesting of years’’. Clover chuckled and grinned before finally joining the others with her cup. ‘’W-well, I h-have no idea wh-what I exactly w-want from the New Year, but I’m s-sure there’ll be ch-challenges and t-times where it’s tough, but I-I th-think that together, n-no matter what, we’ll be able t-to get through it… so h-here’s to being able to s-stick together for the good and th-the bad of the New Year.’’ After having spent the last little bit tapping her glass nervously, she finally raised it up. ‘’Well that wraps it all up, Happy New Year everyone, to having the best year ever.’’ Finally, with that they all drank whatever was left in their cup, unless you were Sci who just awkwardly looked at his own empty container, all of them finding solace in the night and company of the others.
‘’O-oh, Grillby’s sent a m-message for us all…’’, Alphys looked down at her phone as she walked, the group heading back to the cars with everything that they brought. ‘’So, what does it say?’’, the goat child questioned instantly. ‘’I-it says… ‘Happy New Year everyone, may all your dreams come true’… so I texted back, ‘Happy New Year, may your good times and happiness be plentiful’… s-sorry, I was j-just trying to m-match his uh positive tone’’ ‘’No Al that’s perfect, sounds real good’’ ‘’Oh dear, it appears I have messages on my side too’’, Muffet sighed as she looked over her phone with the purple, spider phone case, ‘’one from Charles saying, ‘wish you Madam an excellent and profitable New Year, also send best wishes to your associates over there’ and one from… Mary, ‘’Awww another great year darls, hope you’re all having the greatest night, wish you all the best and hope you all have a fabulous year. From Aunt Mary’… then she puts down an incredibly disgusting amount of heart emojis and peace signs.’’ Asgore couldn’t help but giggle loudly, ‘’Well make sure to send Aunt Mary something back’’. ‘’Huff… Ok fine, but only because you asked so nicely…, ‘’Thanks, hope you had a pretty good night yourself, hopefully maybe even your year won’t be to far from good yourself’’… I’ll send something similar to Charles’’. ‘’Hey, my bro has something to share…’’, Sci chuckled before reading it out, ‘’TO ALL YOU MONSTERS AND HUMAN OUT THERE, THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAS DECIDED THAT YOU ALL RIGHTLY DESERVE JUST THE COOLEST NEW YEARS FROM ME, BUT NOT ONLY THAT BUT YOU GUYS TRULY DESERVE HAVING ONE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME YEAR. SORRY YOU COULDN’T IMPROVE YOUR TIME WITH MY NEW YEARS SPAHGETTI, BUT MAYBE NEXT TIME. HAVE THE GREATEST TIME AND BEST WISHES FROM THE OTHER SKELEBRO’,… wow, isn’t he just the best?’’ The skeleton didn’t need anything said to already get on his response. ‘’Thanks bro, definitely the coolest best wishes we’ve received so far. Everyone wishes you to have coolest year right back at you…. Also everyone is very upset they couldn’t have your spaghetti’’. It was only seconds that Paps sent a picture of his spaghetti and a apologetic message sounding legitimately bad for them. ‘’Oh hey I actually got one, it’s from the kids, ‘Hey Gorey Fluffybuns we hope you’re having a good night out there and staying safe, better not be getting up to much trouble. Anyway all of us here wish you and Clover and whoever else in is around a great New Years and hope that over the course of the next year we’re all going to have more great times and memories to share. Well see you soon, lots of love…’, oh and they sent a selfie of the six of them, though they’re crowded around a sleeping Paps, guess the poor guy finally crashed.’’ ‘’Heh, maybe. Wonder how long the little guy lasted for, probably just had to hit midnight and then collapsed.’’, Clover looked over his shoulder and examined the picture. ‘’True, I imagine they had to avoid giving him any sort of candy, otherwise they probably would’ve been to busy dealing with a little monster to message us. I better write a message back… ‘Hey guys, looks like Paps was having a ball. Hope you’re all good and having a great night, wish you the best New Years, looking forward to spending another year with you all. See you soon, love you all.’… There we go. Think we’re all good now.’’   ‘’Yeah, the only thing left is to head home, getting real fucking exhausted’’, Clover yawned as she went on ahead.
Alphys found herself sitting up at the kitchen bench with only the dim light of an outside light source and the brightness of her phone. She looked up with suspicious look from her device when she heard approaching footsteps from the darkness, though relief washing over her instantly as she watched a Pyjama clad Asgore, tiredly rubbing his eyes, emerge from the shadows. ‘’Asgore? Wh-what are y-you doing up? E-everyone else h-has gone to b-bed.’’ ‘’Oh well I just wanted some water… why are you up though? I think you should try getting some sleep too.’’, he walked over to a top cupboard and grabbed a small cup and started filling it under the tap. ‘’Oh uh y-yeah, you know m-me, sleeping isn’t e-exactly my s-strong suit… plus I g-got a couple of New Year t-texts as well…’’ ‘’Oh yeah, Clover got one from Dalv and Flowey, apparently Dalv didn’t realise it was New Years and Flowey had to like convince him and he can’t exactly use a phone himself… a little funny, but they send New Year’s wishes to you guys as well… who did you get stuff for?’’ Oh th-that’s nice of them, thanks. Oh um Red’s uh… k-kinda drunk r-right now… s-sent me this p-pretty much.’’ Alphys showed the prince her phone where it showed texts from Red that started with 'JJAPPY MEW YERRS' to different incarnations of 'DNT MEAM TO' 'SHIT' and then finally '<<<3 LOL'. ‘’Huh, guess he’s definitely having fun… wonder if he’ll have any party stories to tell.’’ The lizard monster got a small grin, ‘’I w-wouldn’t count on it, m-maybe when y-you’re older… h-heard it can p-pretty wild out there.’’ Asgore would’ve given a stubborn pout if he just wasn’t to tired, ‘’Well that’s no fun… did you get one from someone else as well?’’ ‘’O-oh! Y-yeah Gaster s-sent a one liner, i-it means Happy New Year.’’ She switched which messages she was viewing on her phone and as she saw the message Gaster sent, she let out a small laugh of amusement, like it was some form of joke. She pointed the phone at the kid and all he saw was ‘w+ℓnLN | = ℓn | ap(2)H+ℓ(ar)  | +ℓnlyl’ and his face just went blank. ‘’I uh don’t really get it, is it a code?’’ ‘’S-sort of, just science stuff, g-gave Sci a r-real chuckle to, but he’s b-basically saying h-happy n-new year to you in his own unique way… j-just wish I could’ve sent something like that back though, but I’m not exactly in the r-r-right mind currently, just sent him a ‘Happy New Years Gaster, hope you have a really good one, maybe actually try to get some sleep this year’’. ‘’Oh nice, but maybe you shouldn’t be so hypocritical, after I leave can you please at least try to go to sleep?’’ Asgore’s pleading made Alphys give a sigh, ‘’Y-yeah ok, I-I’ll got to b-bed in a m-minute, I promise…’’ ‘’Well with my job done, I can finally sleep in peace, goodnight Al.’’ ‘’S-sweet dreams, s-see you t-tomorrow’’. As the goat child left, another notification appeared on her phone, one that appeared to be from Red. Reopening her messages she found a video which she quickly started while waiting a few seconds for buffering. When the video played all she really could see was this wobbly view of what was probably a party and Red in the background talking, ‘’ I ANT GOING TO TURN ON TEXT TO WHATEVER HAH NO IM DRUNK DUDE PARTY HARD LIVE- OH SHIT ITS RECORDING- HAPPY NEW YEAR’’ before the video cut off after a crashing sound and some laughter. She could only shake her head and laugh, the silly guy is going to hurt himself. Finally she texted back, ‘Happy New Year Red, hope you’re having fun out there, try to make at least mediocre decisions if not good ones. Stay safe out there, better not give me any reason to worry. Heheh but no seriously, have a good time… thanks for everything. See you later’. Finally with that out of the way she turned her phone off and wandered over to her bedroom, opening it and finding extreme comfort as she collapsed on soft sheets of her bed. Alphys turned over on her back and watched the roof and gave it a tired smile. ‘’Happy New Year everyone, let’s make this year a good one’’.

🔀 Maroon 5 - Payphone
I’m at a payphone trying to call homeAll of my change I spent on youWhere have the times gone, baby, it’s all wrongWhere are the plans we made for two
Here are some voicemails long since deleted by Franck Rivoire.
Voicemail 01: Recorded Jun 26, 6:23pm
Gesaffelstein: Monsieur Rivoire.
G.: [Short pause.] Good afternoon, Monsieur. The Chairman conveys his regrets that you couldn’t be here today, and he hopes that you’ll be well soon. [Pause. Shuffling of papers.] Your article is still due on Friday, of course. Specifically the one from when you visited Nantes. Alone.
G.: [Small intake of breath. Five seconds.]
G.: … That will be all, save for one more message from the chairman. There will be a party at some point in the next month or two, to celebrate his first full year at the office. The date is not yet set, but the announcement came an hour ago; it was only right to let you know. [Pause.] You will find out more as the days pass, I imagine. As far as I know, it will be held at a function room in one of the hotels nearby. Plus ones are permitted, as are friends. We are encouraged to bring some as he is quite intent on making an impression.
G.: But then, of course. I forgot.
G.: [Quiet snicker, followed by a markedly lowered tone of voice:]
G.: You don’t have any friends now, do you, Franckie?
[END VOICEMAIL]
Yeah, I know it’s hard to rememberThe people we used to beIt’s even harder to pictureThat you’re not here next to me
Voicemail 02: Recorded Jul 18, 10:16pm
Gesaffelstein: [Inaudible murmur for the first twenty seconds. Sound of water running in the background, perhaps a bathtub. Radio and TV both on, one of which is the evening news, full volume; all of those sounds are so loud as to drown out the foreground noise, G.’s own voice included. G.’s voice is increasingly stifled with emotion as the recording goes on.]
G.: - not a writer, not a journalist, and definitely not an artist. I know you’re watching the story too, even if you aren’t taking my calls; you hear that, Franckie? You want me to turn the volume up from this end? [Does not.] Because I know you’d hate to miss it. Imagine going out of business because the mayor of goddamned Nantes sued you for slander. [Laughter.]
G.: Oh, it’ll pass. I mean, there’s fuck all to do in Nantes; you were just the convenient target, just be sure to thank the chairman for bailing you out later. Yeah? They only didn’t name you out of some theoretical respect for your dignity, but really, you aren’t shit, Franck Rivoire. Not that you needed to hear it from me for the hundredth time, but what the hell. [The tap is abruptly shut off.] Have a present. Why not! It’s our one month anniversary - of you breaking us up! I’m so glad we made it, Franckie, let’s be miserable together forever! [Bitter laughter. Faint splash of water.]
G.: Jesus Christ.
G.: [Continues to laugh, until he begins to sob instead in earnest. A full minute passes before either the TV or the radio is shut off, though the other remains on in the background.]
G.: Franckie. Franckie... why?
[END VOICEMAIL]
You say it’s too late to make it,But is it too late to try?And in our time that you wastedAll of our bridges burned down
Voicemail 03: Recorded Aug 12, 3:30am
Gesaffelstein: [Slurring very heavily throughout the recording; clearly intoxicated. Pronunciation unclear in some parts.] Hello? Hello? It’s me. Mike. First of all, it was lovely seeing you last night, chickpea, it’s been a-a-ges; funny how like... fucking hell, you were the one person I ought to’ve expected... heh. Never doubted you for a second [Inaudible], you always take me by surprise.
G.: Thank you for the coupons. I didn’t want to say it out loud in front of everybody, but you were spot on: I don’t think I’ve walked past a spa since I began working here. I’m overdue for a good old sugar scrub at the least; you’re right, I do need a day out to myself, don’t I. [Pause, seven seconds. The sound of a cork popping.] Too much’s been going on. Hell. Thanks for putting a word in for me at Lancôme, too. [Inaudible] - of the modelling business for so long it’s surprising anyone remembers me, let alone wants me back occasionally. [Pouring sounds. Pause. Three seconds.]
G.: That said, darling.
G.: [A glass clinks heavily upon a wooden surface.]
G.: Are you out of your mind?!
G.: [G.’s voice is a little clearer from this point on. Coaxing.] My dearest. Sweetheart. Honeybun. I thought we were over this years ago. Wild horses couldn’t drag me kicking and screaming back to the modelling industry; thanks for getting my name out there, but as for working for them? No thanks. You know how bad it was there. You were the one who helped me get out in the first place; so why, why, oh why on earth would you want me to go back? [Laughter.] Did I look that unhappy at the party or something?
G.: [Laughter, bittersweet, but not malicious.] Not that I blame you. I am unhappy and you had every reason to think that, even if we didn’t get the chance to hash it out. [Pouring sounds.] I don’t blame you, chickpea, you’re just trying to help a friend out at his time of need. Speaking of that, though - did you get a chance to talk to Franck at the party? You’ve got to spill the beans if you did, I’ll spill mine; Jesus, you won’t believe what the bastard did to me. [Heavy thud.] I’m no use to mistreatment - all that time with my fellow models, oh yes, with those glorious sons of bitches, we’ve all been bought, been sold - and yet after all this time taking the high road you’d think there would be some...
G.: ... Fucking... wrong number.
[END VOICEMAIL]
I’ve wasted my nights,You turned out the lightsNow I’m paralyzedStill stuck in that timeWhen we called it loveBut even the sun sets in paradise
Voicemail 04: Recorded Sep 24, 3:03pm
Gesaffelstein: I went to our old pâtisserie today.
G.: [Pause.]
G.: Well. Mine. I never got to take you. [Pause.] They still do your favourite macarons. The melon one’s still exquisite, you know. I mean. I know.
G.: Didn’t think they’d recognize me after so many months away. They remember you, too, and gave me an extra box of cinnamon and red bean for you. [Longer pause.] ... Just... call me... or leave me a message, when you get this... and I’ll put them on your desk on Monday.
G.: [Lengthy silence. Quiet breathing sounds, at one point marginally louder, as if the receiver was hitched closer to his lips.]
G.: ... There was a couple in there. Two men. I’d say a little older than us. [Pause.] They were holding the cutest little boy in their arms. They were in front of me at the counter and I waved at the kid and he smiled at me. Well. Maybe a he. I couldn’t tell. Just a baby, really. A happy family.
G.: [Silence. When he next speaks his voice is very quiet.]
G.: ... I’d have liked one, too...
[END VOICEMAIL]

                                                   * * *
You hated fighting with Peter over stuff about his daily job as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, mainly because the fight would always end with you leaving his room while he is crying for feeling guilty about what happened. You really did like him. You always did, and always will. I remember meeting Peter on the schools’ playground during lunch time, he was stuck on the monkey bars yelling “I’m stuck! Send help!” you tried to hold back your laughter to save the blush for him. He fell for your personality and you fell for his curly fluffy looks, and this caused the unwanted friend-zone while being best friends. It was a good thing that he lived in a apartment 5 doors across from yours. When high school came you had met his other best friend Ned Leeds, Ned was nice but still heavily built. He would geek out with Peter about nerdy science stuff and build LEGO sets together after school with you. And now its crazy to think you’re friend group you had formed is now Seniors in high school, almost in college.
You, MJ, Ned and Peter were all sitting outside during lunch time in Midtown High eating, you were lying in the grass with Peter while MJ and Ned were eating the schools food. You had your legs on top of Peter’s, your body’s  making sort of a L shape, “You guys, Its official. I don’t want to go to college” You joked as you looked at the clouds fresh shapes. Peter smiled, “Why not?” “Well..Its just going to be another four more years of learning! And I think I’m done with the drama queens and stuck up wanna be’s” You said as you sat up gathering your trash. “true” Ned said as he took a bite of the sandwich they served, the bell rang for the last period of the day and you all cleaned up and left. When you saw Peter in the hallway you ran over to him, “I’m gonna be coming over to your apartment today, okay?” you said with a smile. He nodded then you all left for class.
When you walked into his apartment you expected to see him  but you couldn’t find him, as usual, “Great” you said to yourself when you threw your backpack on his bedroom floor. After a hour or two May left to go have dinner with a couple of friends which left you alone in their small apartment. You sat down on his bunk bed and inspected his room, you looked at his tiny collection of nerdy Funko Pop figurines to his science fair awards. You got up from his bunk bed when you saw a polaroid picture of you and him together, Next to the Polaroid photo there was one of you wearing a pair of oddly funny glasses failing to keep a straight face. You smiled when looking at the old photos, it brought back too many memories.
Flash Back: “Peter?” You asked him when you looked over at him sitting on the old pull out couch in your basement. He looked up at you, “Yes Y/n?” He asked as he put down the book he was reading. “H-have you ever kissed anyone?” You looked down at the white bedding from the pull out couch to avoid any awkward eye contact. “I mean we are only 13..” Peter said “Have you kissed anyone?” He said once again and this time you made serious eye contact. “N-no” You said quietly. It felt like the room was closing in on you when he crawled closer to where you were sitting at the corner. “Y/n” Peter said softly, he lifted your chin up so you would look up at him. You made moonlight eye contact perfectly, “C-can I kiss you?” He asked. You nodded bashfully, he cupped his hands around your cold cheeks. Your worlds met completely when his lips smashed up against yours.
Suddenly the window bust open with a tumbling Peter falling on the floor. “Shit” You said as you jumped up from being startled from him, “Sorry” He mumbled when he got to his feet. “Its fine” You mumbled as you quickly moved away from the cork board above his desk, “What were you looking at?” “Nothing IjustrememberedwhenyoukissedmeandnowIfeelveryawkwardandweneedtostudyPeter” You said fastly, “What?” he said as he walked up to you. “Are you okay?”  You nodded, you sat down on the bottom of his bunk bed. Peter pressed the button on his suit causing it to create a pool of red and blue near his ankles, he put on a pair of grey sweatpants and a black shirt. “Are you sure your okay?” He asked once again, “Its just what they were saying on the news about you..” You said as you balled your hands into fists in your lap. “Oh, well I’m okay, trust me” He gave you a weak smile. “But how do I know you are Pete? You are always getting home later than you usually do. Later than you normally  do as Spider-boy..” He sighed and sat next to you, you rested your head on his shoulder. “But Y/n I am okay...” he spoke softly as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder. “You don’t understand Peter, what if one day you aren’t safe. What if I go crazy past my mind because your not safe and something bad happens Pete!” you said trying not to raise your voice from being scared. “Y-Y/n I will be fine” “But how do I know for sure that you will” you lowered your tone of the voice you were speaking at. He sighed and so did you, he knew about your anxiety and depression and how you worried way too much. You let a single tear fall from your face and this made Peter even more worried about you. You broke in front of him. Crying. You got up, grabbed everything you brought with you and left him crying feeling guilty for letting you be like this.
Sometimes I wish I hadn’t tried so hard to be like this. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t listened to the ‘recommended’ stuff to do to be like this with Peter. But he is so out of reach and its hard to be like this. Knowing he likes Liz Allan makes you feel stupid for even having the hots for him, the third time she had a party you had found them dancing together which made you feel horrible. But I know I’m never going to get over him. Because I’m just a sucker for anything he does. This was the first night you had cried yourself to sleep because of thinking what could happen at any moment.
                     Peter’s POV:
When Y/n left it was a open chance to go back outside and help out, I mean I had calmed down and its only 9pm anyways. Walking down the cold November nights of Queens it felt perfect, using the web shooters I swing up to one of the rooftops to look at the crystal moonlight view. Suddenly a man walks up to me. “Hey buddy” the dark voice says. I freak out and turn around to see who it is. He has a couple of other friends who tagged along with him. But too many to take down, ‘shit this is lovely’. “You know Y/L/N Y/F/N” One of the other guys say. He is covered in a black hoodie. “Y-yeah..Please don’t hurt her please I will give you anything just p-”  Peter got cut off by the rude leader “Jump off and she will stay safe” He said harshly. “We saw you with her the other day,  little Spider-Man knows a high school student” The guy snickers and pushes Peter up closer to the edge. “W-what?” Peter managed to stutter out, his heart sank. He knew Y/n was true but he didn’t want to feed into her anxiety and depression. And that was all that Peter remembers, being pushed off the 20/30′ building that night. The rest is known for history.
               Reader’s POV:
You got a phone call from May, this freaked you out. Running towards the home phone that your mother was holding for you you quickly grabbed it from her and answered the call. “May? I-is everything okay? Whats wrong? Do I need to get to your apartment? Is Peter okay?” you rambled on with questions but you could feel the emptiness from May radiating off on to you. You already knew what was about to happen because you remember hearing ambulance and police sirens earlier outside. “J-just get to the hospital closest to the new office work space near our apartments, you said your good-byes quickly and left.
When you arrived at the hospital you were greeted by one of the lady’s who works there. You told her the information and she gave you the room number but said “The room number is 209, but visiting hours end soon considering it is almost 11pm sweetie”. You nodded and went to Peter’s hospital room. You opened the door quietly and saw him sitting in a hospital bed with May sitting next to him. She gave you a weak smile and nodded letting you know to come inside, you closed the door and set your bookbag by the door. “Pete” You said softly as you looked at his pale body, he was vaguely breathing. Seeing him like this made you cry. You covered your face and tried to calm yourself down as you walked over to sit next to him and Aunt May. “H-how long ago did this happen” you choked out while she tried to comfort you. “It seemed like this had happened around 45 minutes ago” The sound of quiet sobs and the machines beeping filled the room the entire night. May left the room and waited in the waiting room for you to say whatever you had to, to Peter.
You entire twined your’s and his hands together. “Peter, I didn’t say for you to let go yet” you whispered as you grasped his hand a little tighter. “Please don’t leave me yet” You tried to fight back the tears filling in your eyes. You looked down at his hand and kissed his cheek. “I will always love you more than a best friend Pete” You spoke softly. Then the machine stopped beeping along with his slow breathing. “B-bye Peter” You said as you let yourself break fully in front of him.
