Understanding study material 📚 Effective strategies 🤔
Here are some research-backed tips to help you navigate difficulties in understanding study material effectively 💪🏼
1️⃣ Break down complex concepts
Research suggests that breaking down complex concepts into smaller, more digestible parts can aid in understanding. Divide the material into manageable sections and focus on understanding each component before moving on to the next.
2️⃣ Engage in active learning
Active learning techniques, such as summarizing, teaching others, and practicing with flashcards, can improve understanding and retention. Engage actively with the material by explaining it to a study partner or testing yourself with practice questions.
3️⃣ Seek clarification
Don't hesitate to seek clarification from your instructors, peers, or online resources when you encounter difficulties. Research indicates that asking questions and seeking feedback can enhance understanding and fill in knowledge gaps.
4️⃣ Utilize visual aids
Visual aids, such as diagrams, charts, and graphs, can help simplify complex information and improve comprehension. Create visual representations of the material or use existing visual resources to enhance your understanding of challenging concepts.
5️⃣ Connect new material to prior knowledge
Research in cognitive psychology emphasizes the importance of connecting new information to existing knowledge for better understanding. Relate new concepts to familiar ideas or experiences to establish meaningful connections and improve retention.
6️⃣ Practice retrieval techniques
Research studies suggest that practicing retrieval techniques, such as self-testing and quizzing, can strengthen memory and understanding. Test yourself regularly on the material to reinforce learning and identify areas that require further review.
7️⃣ Collaborate with peers
Collaborative learning has been shown to enhance understanding and retention of study material. Engage in group study sessions with peers to discuss challenging concepts, share insights, and benefit from diverse perspectives.
8️⃣ Take breaks and manage stress
Take regular breaks during study sessions, practice relaxation techniques, and prioritize self-care to manage stress levels and optimize your cognitive performance. Read posts about mental and physical health to find more useful information.

finishing summaries of 2 Korean articles is a goal for today. it’s a homework for our political translation course. writing summaries is time-consuming as you need to comprehend the text in Korean, which is difficult. such kind of articles are full of new words we’re supposed to learn by heart.
so, there’s pattern that works for me:
1. finding new words and their definition
2. translation of the paragraphs, one by one
3. highlighting the main ideas in each paragraph and quotes that can’t be omitted
4. putting all the highlighted parts together, using necessary grammar
boom, you’re cool because you have done the assignment and practiced translating🤝🏻

Finding your Spark
In highschool I had to take one of those mandatory life-skills courses to graduate, and during the careers segment, my teacher asked us, “what’s your spark in life?” then added, “in some way, that can be a part of your career.”
She explained to us a spark was something we’ve always loved or have been passionate about—the thing from our childhood we still enjoyed to this day. It’s the thing you could do for the rest of your life, and you’d never get tired of it. For her it was sports and athleticism, for me and I’m sure many of you it’s writing, or maybe it’s drawing, reading, movies, music, history, biology, etc. etc. etc.
Her point was that no matter what your spark was, there was a million ways to incorporate it into a fulfilling career. She was an athlete as a kid, but an injury kept her off the field so she became a coach, then she took her team to the Olympics, then after a decade she decided to teach kids, which led her to highschool sports.
You don’t have to know what you want to do for the rest of your life—and more importantly, you don’t have to stick to the exact same thing either. Just follow your spark, see where it takes you, and be open to the opportunities that come your way.
Good luck to those of you graduating or just graduated this year, you guys got this!

How to increase focus while studying/working
It is very often to find ourselves wondering away while studying or working. This can become really frustrating sometimes because we end up spending much more time on a single time than necessary. It is because we do not perform the task with a relaxed mind.
So, here are some trips to calm your mind and increase focus while studying -
Always study at the same spot - By Setting up a separate spot for studying we train our brain to identify the particular spot with work. It can help as we sub-consciously enter into a ‘work mode’.
Remove distractions - We often find it difficult to go long hours without checking our mobiles and social media. Our brain actively looks for distractions. To cope with this, we must place our mobile phones or any other distractions farther from us. This also helps in training our brain to not for distractions.
Listen to soothing music while studying - Different form of music has proven to be helpful in promoting relaxation and increase focus. Some students listen to classical music while other listen to nature music such as ‘Rain sounds’ to increase focus.
Check out this calming video with rain sound to increase focus -
youtube
Set up a study routine - We often struggle with lack of motivation to study. But the thing is that we cannot always feel motivated towards doing a certain task such as studying, we need discipline instead. To stay disciplined , we must set up a proper study routine for ourselves and stick to it. This way we develop a habit of studying and automatically train our brain to focus during those periods.
Practise meditation - Meditation is a powerful technique which helps us calm down . By practising meditation for at least 20 mins a day, we can significantly increase our concentration and focus. Moreover meditation can also promote faster learning.
I hope this will prove helpful to you. Drop a follow and like if it was useful and show me support!
I hope you have a good day!

Sophomore year Tips.
Here are a few tips I have for sophomore year of High School. I hope these help any sophomore's out there.
Don't pull all-nighters - It's never a good idea to pull an all-nighter because first of all, you will possibly end up messing up your school schedule. Second of all, you will be exhausted the next day and that won't be good for you because if you end up falling asleep in class, you might miss something like notes for a quiz or test, a homework assignment, or insturctions for an assignment. The last reason why it's never ok to pull all-nighters is because you will be very grumpy the next day.
Get a planner to prevent procrastination - it's important to have a planner because it can help you keep everything organized. Sometimes, it can be hard to keep track of assignments, especially when you have multiple classes. A planner is amazing to have because then you'll be able to keep track of your assignments for your different classes.
Start making your college list - I know this sounds like a big one but trust me, you are gonna want to do this because when you get to your junior year of HS, that's the year you'll want to start applying to colleges.
take an AP class - You'll want to do this if you want to study math, science, or history majors when you head off to college and this is important because this will give you college credit, which means that you most likely won't have to take the same class in college that you took your sophomore year.
start applying for scholarships - you'll want to start applying for scholarships during sophomore year because you'll want to have enough money put away and saved for when you head off to college.
I know these aren't a lot of tips but I hope these help any sophomore in High School.

Herbal teas for stressful times
Sometimes one cup of tea can help your mental health 🫶🏼 Try these herbal teas when you don’t feel ok ☕️ Take a tablespoon of any of these herbs and place them into a tea ball, strainer or directly into a cup, and pour a cup of hot water over the herb. Let the tea steep for up to 15 minutes 🫧
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 (𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮)
It relaxes tightness in the mind and body. Also, chamomile reduces tension in the digestive tract, especially when there is associated bloating and discomfort
𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 (𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗮)
This tea is for those whose mind is racing, overactive and prone to circular thinking. It works to cool the mind, and gently sedate the body allowing relaxation and rest to ensue
𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 (𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗽。)
Lavender is great at reducing that tension, increasing blood supply to the mind and easing the strain of life
𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 (𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗽。)
Rose stimulates our capacity for empathy and kindness not only to others but to ourselves as well. It is cooling to the mind, reducing worry and thoughts of rejection
𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗺 (𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀)
Specific to those who are stuck in a state of melancholy, this herb can shine some sunlight on the mind of those who need it

7 tips for staying organised and focused while studying
Make a plan You’ll have a good idea of when essays are due and even if you don’t know exact dates of individual exams, you should know the week(s) that exams are scheduled for. So, get a head start and map out your work schedule now. Whether it’s reading, researching, writing or revising, be sure to give yourself a target to achieve at the end of each week so you know you’re on track to have everything ready in time for the deadlines. Investing in a wall calendar or diary is a good idea as you can mark down important dates. It will help you to clearly see how much time you have left and when you are going to work on what.
Create a relaxed study environment If you’re planning on studying from home, be sure to make sure your room is tidy and your desk is clear from clutter. As they say, a clean space makes way for a clear mind – which is just what you need when you’re working. You’ll also find it easier to focus if your study space is somewhere you actually enjoy being. Having a potted plant and decent lighting are small steps to creating your ultimate study haven.
Take regular breaks Studies repeatedly show that productivity increases when students take regular breaks. By breaking down your revision or essay writing into manageable chunks, you’re more likely to remain focused and keep your brain engaged on the subject at hand. For every 45 minutes of solid work you do, take a 15-minute break away from your desk. Whether it’s popping outside for some fresh air, having a quick tidy or doing some stretches, we guarantee your brain will thank you later!
Don’t get distracted by social media These days it’s almost too easy to be distracted by social media. When your phone buzzes in your pocket it’s impossible to ignore the alluring call of a Snapchat or Instagram notification. And before you know it you’ve spent the afternoon scrolling through cute animal pictures and funny videos, and no work has been done. But fear not, software developers have found a way to help students during times when they need to focus. You can download browser extensions such as ‘StayFocusd’ which blocks your most distracting websites for a set amount of time.
Drink plenty of water and eat well During exam periods, it’s often the case that students become so focused on their work, they forget to focus on their own well-being. The easiest way to help yourself perform to your best ability is to stay hydrated and keep away from junk food. Set a reminder on your phone to drink a large glass of water every couple of hours and snack on healthy fruit and nuts during your studies. A lack of water or eating foods with high levels of fat will make you feel irritable and lethargic, which is the last thing you’ll want when you’re trying to be productive!
Reward yourself Rewarding yourself for studying is key to staying motivated. These can be small rewards such as a square of chocolate for each paragraph you write or watching an episode of your favourite Netflix series when you’ve mastered revising a certain topic. When you feel you’ve really been working hard or when assignments have been handed in and exams finished, reward yourself with bigger things such as a night out with friends or buying those pair of boots you’ve had your eye on for months. Remember, just because it’s exam season, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy yourself.
Don’t do all-nighters, you will regret it! You may think that by staying up all night working, you’re keeping on track with your studies. But doing all-nighters and functioning with a lack of sleep can end up having a serious impact on your health and in turn impede your work. A good night’s sleep is important to help stay focused and learn efficiently. Sleep helps consolidate memory which is essential when studying and converting short term memory to long term. So, swap the extra cups of coffee or cans of Red Bull for your bed and be sure to get the necessary number of hours sleep you need every night.

5 Tips for your First Week of University
Hi everyone, sorry for being away for a little bit! Like many of you I went back to school and things have been a little hectic since then. Until I get back on track, have 5 tips for your first week at uni/college/highschool!
Choose a seat next to someone
This is one of the best things you can do to make friends or even just gain familiarity in a new situation. When choosing a seat, make sure to pick one next to someone else. Even if you don't end up talking much that first class, people tend to stick to the same seats every day, and weeks down the line it's far more awkward to be stuck sitting alone than it is to sit next to a stranger that first day.
And who knows, you might make an easy friend!
2. If you end up sitting alone, don't put your backpack/things on the chairs next to you.
If you end up sitting alone, leave yourself open to being sat next to! Someone might want to come over and make friends, or even just don't know where else to sit. It's polite and shows you're friendly when you keep your stuff on the ground or table and leave the seats next to you open.
3. It's okay if you're a little late to your first classes
Everyone is getting used to where all the buildings and rooms are--I've never had a prof care if one of us were a bit late to our first classes. Even when I arrived nearly 15 minutes late my first year because I missed the bus. Don't stress it, and ask for help finding a room if you need to!
4. But come prepared
Most classes might require you to do some work beforehand (or even just pick up the textbook). You want to make sure you start off on a good foot and come prepared for your first classes. One, it makes you look good in front of the prof, and two, starting off having to play catch-up is really Not fun.
5. Sign up/commit to something that interests you
Even if it's just one club, hanging out at the library, joining a sports team or other group, getting involved in your school makes the experience so much better. As well, many campuses have amazing spaces and programs your tuition likely pays for, so you might as well enjoy them! It's a great way to make friends, and to come out of university feeling like you got everything you could out of it.
Have fun and good luck this semester!
