One of the strangest critiques I see over The Dark Descent is that it made everyone straight and...I don't have the original novel for comparison, but I'm not certain that ANYONE in that book (except for MAYBE Judge Frankenstein) was straight

Thinking about the time I came out to my friend after she came out to me I think as a lesbian by telling me she doesn’t like boys and I said me neither because I’m aroace but neither of us actually said our labels so I’m not sure she actually knows I’m aroace and I’m not really sure she’s a lesbian

So I know you headcanon Nami as a lesbian and Luffy as aroaco (both which is heavily agree with!) What are your romance/sexuality headcanons for the other Strawhats?
Hm. I think Zoro is ace, but not aro, but also the only thing he's really in love with is his dream of fulfilling his promise to Kuina, becoming the greatest swordsman in the world. Once he accomplishes that... well, I am not 100% sure he'll survive accomplishing it, actually, I think the story is signaling pretty hard that his moment of transcendence is going to be connected with the moment of his death (the "King of Hell" thing, all the Buddhism imagery, his tendency to find revelations about swordsmanship on the brink of death) but if he does survive it, that's when maybe romance can become a consideration for him. Maybe. That's when he can figure out who he's even into.
Sanji is extremely romantic - hyperromantic, even - but honestly in a way that's... almost totally disconnected from actual romance? He worships women as divine goddesses and sources of extreme aesthetic and emotional joy for him, but he seems to struggle enormously to actually relate to them a lot of the time. He seems more invested in Being A Gentleman Who Loves Women than he does in... actually being in any sort of a realistic relationship with a woman.
Pudding is the closest he comes to forming an actual romantic relationship, and even then, so much of it is ultimately motivated by his romantic fantasy of Being The Prince, of being the noble, self-sacrificing hero who Saves The Girl, of Being A Good Man. Committing to her is, for him, an act of self-sacrifice, for the sake of his crew, for the sake of his family (Zeff and the Baratie, not the Vinsmokes), and for the sake of her more than it is an earnest desire to build a future with a true partner. He's resigning himself to a life of being her perfect domestic husband servant, in worship and adoration of her, but never in partnership.
In an extremely weird way, the vibe I get from Sanji is he's like a... hyperromantic... aromantic? He's EXTREMELY invested in romantic fantasies, but not so much in the actual day-to-day mundanities of romance, he's in love with the idea of being in love, with the experience of being in love, with the thrill and act and performance of being in love, more than he is in love with any actual person?
Partly this comes down to One Piece just not being a romance story - romance is generally sidelined and elided in most situations, and Sanji's romantic obsessions are played for comedy 99% of the time, they are not taken seriously, so he never has an opportunity to really go through the process of romance as a grounded, flesh-and-blood process, but I can only discuss him as he is presented.
Robin, I think, might be the most straightforward of the crew. I am on board with the Frobin agenda, I think she's probably straight and... if not cis, then about as cis as you can be with a power like the Hana Hana no Mi. And I think she genuinely would be very attracted to a loud, dependable eccentric like Franky, as the other half to her quiet dependable eccentric personality. Especially since he is loudly and obviously an extremely decent man with a heart of gold, and Robin carries so much trauma of being a "devil child," I think she probably needs that kind of uncomplicated light of goodness in her life.
Usopp, again, is probably a fairly straightforward sort. The live action gives him a thing for Kaya, but I could see him being bi or pan, but much like Zoro I don't think he's going to quite have the capacity for Romance™ until he fulfils his dream of becoming a great warrior of the sea (he already has, of course, but he needs to internalize it and realize it within himself). I ONE HUNDRED percent believe he might end up taking a Giant for a spouse.
Franky is... okay this makes no sense whatsoever but I feel that he's gay? But also would fall for Robin? ... but in a gay way???
Look I don't know how that works either, it's a vibe it's a brain feeling it's a wibbly wobbly romance gender sort of situation. Franky is clearly in love with the male body, with masculinity, with maleness, and he especially loves building himself into those images of hypermasculinity, but he does in a way that feels hella queer to me. I don't really think you can be a self-made cyborg building his own body without being some flavor of queer-coded, like, I just don't think that that can be a cishet thing anymore.
He would fall for Robin is my point, in part because they share a knack for creating themselves, in part because Robin would appreciate and need him, in part because she would adore his cybernetic self-creation and find it charming and beautiful, and I think he needs someone who will love his creations (including, y'know, his body) as much as he does.
It's like... y'know how Neo and Trinity in the Matrix are clearly, OBVIOUSLY a t4t couple even though they're both technically cis in the text of the story? It's like that with Frobin for me. Yeah, sure, they're both cis and straight, but also they are trans and gay.
Jinbei I have no idea, actually, he could be into absolutely anything. Kind of a gay bear vibe? That's the best I got. Chopper is a child and I don't think he really has any idea yet either, and Brook... look, I don't think you can be THAT level of flamboyant rockstar and not be some flavor of queer. The Soul King wears Elton John outfits half the time. I don't know that he has a sexuality anymore necessarily (he could be ace, what with the having no carnal flesh and all), but if he's not at least bi romantically then nothing about him makes sense.

My mom and I were finally able to watch the final episode of Good Omens season 2.
Before we dive in, my mom is very — how do I say this — anti on certain things. My friend said it perfectly. He said she gave him the homophobic put the fear of God type vibes when he first met her.
I don’t believe anything will ever fully change her opinions or views of us. I’ve not even referred to myself as aromantic / asexual in her presence, and I doubt I ever will. I simply tell her I’m done dating. It’s clearly not in my future, and, after trying it a couple of times, it just isn’t something I’m interested in.
I hope that one day she will open her eyes and realize that it’s all fine. Whatever we are. It’s okay.
Tumblr media
My mom enjoyed season one. When I asked her what she thought of Aziraphale and Crowley, here’s what she said. Not her exact words but close enough to what I can remember.
“Aziraphale seems like he’s afraid of getting into trouble with Heaven, but not enough to keep him from going against God’s orders.”
Just enough of a bastard to be worth knowing.
“Crowley isn’t as evil as he paints himself to be.”
Just a little bit a good person.
The only thing, as far as I’m aware, that didn’t quite sit right with my mom is that God is a She.
Wibbly wobbly timey wimey…
Tumblr media
I was terrified for her to watch the second season because of Maggie and Nina and That Big Damn Kiss. She’s told me some less than desirable things previously. Here are a handful of them.
“I won’t watch shows that have gay couples in them.”
“I will watch them, but I’ll just turn my head away when they kiss.”
About my friend who is a lesbian —
“Your friend just says that, but she doesn’t actually know what she is.”
Okay, mom. You go ahead and keep telling yourself that.
I am certain, despite my fear, that I wanted her to watch Good Omens so badly because I thought maybe it would be the golden ticket. It’s uniquely different.
We have been gifted with Anthony J’I’m Not Actually Either Crowley and Mister AZ Smitten I Believe Fell, The Almighty God She, Nina I’m Not Your Type and Maggie You Have No Idea.
I was expecting my mom to frown upon Maggie and Nina’s story in season two, but she didn’t. She actually didn’t even have anything negative to say.
Y’all should have seen me when That Big Damn Kiss was coming up. I was fidgeting probably as bad as Aziraphale was when he was gathering up the courage to ask Crowley to dance with him.
Tumblr media
I don’t think I’ve ever fidgeted that much in my life.
And then it happened.
Tumblr media
That Big Damn Kiss
And she watched all of it. She didn’t look away. She didn’t make a face. She didn’t say anything negative.
I don’t necessarily think her views have changed because she laughed at something my uncle told her about a former coworker of his. This coworker used to go by Craig, but he later came out as trans and asked to be called Cindy. My uncle said, “The best we can do is Crindy.”
Most of my family are homophobic, and I don’t care for it.
I don’t know if it’s the way Neil Gaiman has written Good Omens, but I was surprised that she watched the entire show, had nothing negative to say and even added that she needs to watch all of both seasons again to better understand it.
That’s something, I suppose.
Maybe she’s coming around.
Thank you, Neil Gaiman.
You truly are a legend. 💚

Let's talk about Aspec characters and relationships!
I'm aroace. I write a lot of characters who are aspec in some way. I have a lot of aspec friends. And this is why your aspec character is driving me crazy. There's also sex talk in here so if you're not mature enough to handle it please scroll past.
Edit: Allos also should reblog this if you found it helpful.
First lets get some terms right:
Aromantic (aro) and Asexual (ace) are two distinct things. Aroace means you're both aromantic and asexual at the same time. It is generally referred to as 'aspec' (aro/ace spectrum) when you fall on one or both spectrums. If you are not aspec you are allosexual/alloromantic (allo). It just means someone who isn't ace or aro. You can also be aroallo or aceallo (aromantic allosexual, asexual alloromantic). All these terms are neutral and not used in derogatory ways similar to trans/cis. It's a descriptive word not a put down.
Now about those characters and their relationships. Because that is the most :))))) to me as an aroace is when people just don't know how to handle an aspec character. Usually because they're allo. But that's okay you probably don't know and we're all here to learn from each other. Here's some things to consider when you want to make or write an aspec person.
Ace's do sometimes have sex. They just aren't motivated by sex. That's it.
Along with sex your ace character may also masturbate and feel good being touched. They also might only like touching themselves and hate when other people do it. They usually also know when someone is hot/sexy and will comment on it. Finding someone sexy =/= we want to fuck them. Thinking someone is hot =/= we want to fuck them. We're still human. We know what a hot human looks like. Your ace character might be attracted to someone's appearance aesthetically but have no interest in their bits. Your ace character might fall in love with the most beautiful person in your story and never show any interest of wanting to bed them.
They can have boyfriends/girlfriends/romantic partners they do or don't have sex with. But they can be anywhere on the spectrum of sex repulsive, to sex positive, to absolute sex hound. Some of the horniest people you know are probably ace. Some of the horniest people I know are ace, and I have a lot of ace friends.
And we're not all virgins. Some ace's had sex and realized 'nah fam. Didn't do it for me' and never did it again. Others are virgins and have no intention ever of having sex. Others are virgins but don't care either way? It just hasn't happened. Others enjoy sex with their partners. Some are parents! You can be ace and had enough sex to procreate. Some also think sex is icky or it squicks them out. Some might be squicked out at the thought of sex with another person but they're fine looking at porn or doing it themselves. There is a wide range of what asexuals are into just like allos.
Aros also sometimes do the sex. They are not motivated by romance. That's it.
That being said your aro character can have a boyfriend/girlfriend/partner and it can be 'romantic'. It doesn't have to be a queer platonic relationship. Your aro character also might not want to be in a relationship at all. It is not weird for your aro character to call their partner their partner or bf/gf or if they're married their husband/wife.
Aro people do not get butterflies. They don't really get flustered around people they like. There's no spark. And they don't feel that romantic attraction allos do when they meet someone and fall in love with them. I've found that aro people are also terrible at flirting or picking up flirting cues. At least in my own personal experience when it took my aro ass 3 years to realize some girl was flirting with me and I just thought she was being nice to me. Take the 'useless lesbian' trope and take it to 11. We just don't know. Aro people also know when other people are hot. Just like aces just because we're aro doesn't mean we don't know a baddy when we see one. We just probably won't realize said baddy is flirting with us...
Aro character still love. They love their family, they love their friends, they love their partners. And it's all real love. The love is still there. Aro characters also probably know what they should do to mimic being in love. Even if we don't love someone more than platonically they may still do the things romantic partners do with their partner. Some don't! And that's fine too. Sometimes you're boyfriends and you share the same bed with him, and sometimes your girlfriend is just your roommate. Both are totally valid aro relationships. Maybe your character kisses their partner passionately and they like it, or they might only kiss during sex, or they might not kiss on the mouth. All valid and correct, still no romo. Kissing =/= romance for aros. Sex =/=romance for aros.
Aroace characters do all those things! At once! They can do the sex, and the boyfriend/girlfriend/partner and loving their friends. They just are not motivated by sex or romance. Kissing =/= sexual attraction. Sex =/= romantic love.
Being aspec is looking at the most beautiful and delicious cake in the world and going 'neat, cake' and walking away not even wondering what it tastes like, not even for a second considering having a bite. It's a cake. Neat. You are not motivated by cake. You don't even really care about cake. It's nice that other people fucking loooooooove cake but it's just not for you.
We also know what love is supposed to be like, what a 'healthy sexual' relationship should feel like. It's everywhere. All around us. Constantly. It's also sometimes fucking exhausting! It's why some aspec people can be a bit agro. We get it you're in love/got a new partner/are sleeping with someone/really sexually attracted to this person/keep spamming us with your celeb thirst pics/etc. It does get tiring sometimes. We don't care about the cake and sometimes listening to you talk about the cake drives us crazy. Consider that too when writing aspec characters. Sometimes their friends and their cakes are annoying no matter how much they love them platonically or romantically.
Anyway just some things to consider for your aspec OCs from an older aroace. Should be said aspec is a wide spectrum and I'm drawing on my own experience as an aroace with aspec friends, and my writing of those characters. If you have more questions about writing characters on this spectrum feel free to ask!

My personal ideas about the bachelor's and Bachelorette's sexualities (its ok if you don't feel the same. These, again, are just my feelings and thoughts):
Penny: a lesbian but doesn't know it. She believes in the nuclear family and grew up in a strict household. This has led her to believe that she is straight, despite her always making time for Maru and the farmer. She could marry a man and have kids, but that's more out of belief of what's right than actual love.
Maru: pan and proud of it. I could see her going to pride parades and bringing her partner.
Alex: he would either be straight or gay. I think it's all in how you read his conversations with the farmer tbh. You could take his comments as flirty jokes or as kind of mean to keep you away.
Harvey: straight. He just seems like your stereotypical anxious nerd I'm sorry.
Hayley: lesbian. 100% lesbian. Trying to convince herself she's straight and that overwhelming feeling she has for women is just deep friendship.
Elliot: bi all the way. He's too dramatic to be straight.
Leah: lesbian. She's an artist with a cabin and wears a braid and wears suspenders. I've never seen a straight woman wear suspenders on the reg.
Sebastian: straight or gay. I still can't figure it out.
Sam: straight. Skater gamer boy who loves his family and wants one of his own.
Emily: I honestly see her as pan but more on the aromantic spectrum. Like she's just super bubbly and happy and isn't actually looking for a relationship.
Abigail: bi but leans more towards women. This needs no explanation.
Shane: I've always seen him as straight ngl. But could also see him marrying someone he cherished deeply as a friend to keep them around so he could have a bit of happiness daily.

So, I'm a little confused, and I went anon because I feel embarrassed about asking.
How can someone be a transmasc lesbian? Or an aromantic in a relationship? I'm not trying to hate, and I'll accept people if they tell me these things about themselves, but I don't quite understand???
Hi! No worries bestie, I was also a little confused at first when I heard about it.
Transmasc is usually used as a term for when someone is transitioned to present as a male, but are either still okay with using feminine/neutral pronouns, or just simply want to male present and use feminine/neutral pronouns. Basically, he or she or they (or any combination of those) choose to look masculine and have gotten surgery or use certain tools to help present as male.
There are also male lesbians, though. @andiv3r made a fantastic short essay on one of my posts. Here’s the link to it.
As for being an aromantic and wanting/being in a relationship? Aromantic really just means ‘little to no romantic attraction’, emphasis on romantic. People can find the person they love and live the rest of their life with, and still feel no romantic attraction whatsoever. As in, they don’t feel the need or want to be romantic with their SO. And as long as their partner consents to this as well, they can live their lives together without romantic affections being done to the other. And they can have casual sex with each other (again, as long as both are consenting).
From my personal experiences, I’m comfortable with dating others (even though I go by aroace), just as long as that relationship doesn’t entail any romantic or sexual exchanges of any kind.
I can’t really speak for all transmasc lesbians or aromantics, but this is my views on the subject.
These labels are very broad, and I’m not sure if I explained in the best way. For anyone reading this who knows more about this, please please please reblog and tell me if I missed anything or got something wrong.

MINECRAFT STORY MODE JUMPSCARE
lengthy hc stuff under read more <3 a lot of it is also based on my own little bit of rewriting of mcsm's story bcz lets be real its not The Greatest, but it is a fun story nonetheless and i wanna play with it,,
i'm not sure if it was ever established that they canonically live in the city where endercon takes place or they live somewhere on the outskirts of it, but for my personal hc, i imagine they live on the outskirts of endercon's city :]
axel and jesse are both orphans who grew up together, though while axel was born in their hometown, jesse just showed up out of nowhere with reuben. jesse's earliest memory is meeting his bestie by a water fall, but beyond that, he doesn't really remember anything about his own past.
the two of them met olivia when they found her getting bullied by adrien and his friends. they both stood up for her and soon after that, they all ended up being friends - she didn't hail from their hometown either, having actually moved there and was considered an outsider by most people (adrien and his friends especially), so jesse related to her a lot right off the bat
i wanna write more regarding the threes relationship with the order, petra and the ocelots, specifically lukas, but i think i'll wait until i draw them (which might take weeks. or months. we'll see..)
some character centric (cz the other one is backstory centric) hcs:
jesse thinks he's the same height as olivia. he's not. he's the shortest out of the entire group. he denies this reality with all his (tiny) being.
while jesse uses he/him pronouns he's not actually comfortable being referred to solely as a man. he doesn't have a label for it but he feels like he's a lot more flexible than that. he's honestly pretty okay with any pronouns, axel has used they/them and she/her for him in the past, which he really liked
olivia is #1 woman enjoyer worlds biggest lesbian. i loved the idea of her having a small crush on petra, and a BIG puppy crush on ellegard (which died into a normal admiration for an idol after the wither arc). i want to give olivia a girlfriend in s2,, i also think i want to make her transfem, because transfem olivia is so good and she reminds me of some of my transfem friends,,
axel never gives me the vibes that he'd care about romance or anything like that, so i thought of him being aromantic, maybe even asexual? i think he has a very queerplatonic relationship with his friends, specifically jesse and petra :] i also love the idea of him using he/they pronouns. axel's fine with being called a man, but they kinda wanna get silly with it sometimes, yakno?
again i wanna write so much more but this has already taken me like, 30 minutes?? soo i'll just end that here for now hsgjhsgse

- Midoriya, Present Mic, Aizawa also know sign language (the Bakusquad are getting lessons from Midoriya)
- Monoma is on the aromantic spectrum

- Midoriya learned English because of All Might
- Bakugou, Jirou, Kaminari and Shinsou are also fluent in English

- for the sake of his own sanity
- Hagakure can 'turn her quirk off' but only does so when she feels completely safe and comfortable, or when she's totally worn out
- when she did it for the first time around the rest od the class everyone was shocked
- "... is something wr-" "YOU'RE SO PRETTY???,?"
- Ashido, Uraraka and Kaminari hold Shoji's hands while crossing the street (mostly for fun, but he doesn't mind)

- Aizawa may have only two (2) legal children but by god does he love his other nineteen little bastards.

My personal TMA gender/sexuality headcannons:
Jon: Canonically bi/ace, and I’ve heard people say he’s either trans femme, non-binary, or demiboy (I personally like to think Jon is non-binary)
Martin: Canonically gay, but also definitely ace and trans masc
Elias: Gay and homophobic simultaneously. Need I say more?
Sasha: She is 100% aromantic and either bi or pan and also trans because I said so
Tim: Canonically bisexual, and sooo polyamorous, probably also demiromantic
Georgie: Pansexual obviously, and a trans woman
Melanie: Lesbian. Also got some gender stuff going on, possibly demigirl
Basira: The ultimate lesbian
Daisy: Also lesbian, don’t even try to argue
Gerry: Gay, trans masc, and ace (this one is just a self insert, I’ll be honest)
Micheal Shelly: Gay and demiboy, probably greyromantic because why not
Bonus- Michael Distortion: ?????? definitely not straight (uses neopronouns, canonically it/it’s)

Okily dokily the hyperfixation has me in the trenches so!
Dungeon Meshi Main Character HCs!
From an anime-only who has stumbled upon so many manga spoilers that she has given up on avoiding most of the Big Important Ones
Laios: autism. We all know this. It’s subtext more than an hc. His biggest special interest is monsters, which we also already knew. Aromantic, but open to relationships anyways. Definitely has some sort of gender fuckery going on but there are monsters to be eaten so he doesn’t have time to worry about that (probably agender but he/him works as well as anything so no need to discuss it)
Marcille: autistic transbian. Decided to take a hard turn into dungeons/illegal magic as a way to maybe avoid gifted kid burnout. Doesn’t realize she’s been dating Falin for [however long they adventured together] yet but she’ll get there eventually. Strictly she/her, due to personal experiences with transphobia. Will explore other pronouns more eventually
Chilchuck: either neurotypical, or was raised by parents who knew exactly the type of thing to do when The Symptoms got to be overly detrimental a la the one mom who would have one(? Or more?) of her kids chop wood as a grounding exercise. Cis, but bi in the “parent says ‘everybody feels this way, it’s normal’ way.” Wayyyyy more invested in keeping Laios and Falin safe than he admits to himself. He/him
Senshi: surprise! Autism. “What’s gender, a type of seasoning?” Aroace, but would absolutely be down for a Mandalorian-type marriage (for reference, the only vows in a Mando’ad marriage are “we are one when together, we are one when apart, we share all, we will raise warriors”). He/him by dint of not realizing anything else was an option
Falin: even more autism! She/they, lesbian, has had a crush on Marcille since. Idk, sometime in their schooling together? Knows that they’re dating, knows that Marcille *doesn’t* know that they’re dating, is too afraid of rejection to clarify at this point. The dragon thing definitely fucked with her gender some
Kabru: There Is Something Wrong With Him and I’m kinda into it. Maybe has autism? Has never experienced a crush before Laios and really doesn’t know what to do about that. Hyper-competent warrior. Less competent monster fighter
Isutzumi: Isutzumi
