Summary: [Y/N], who has centered her whole life around the TVA, now encounters a man who proclaims himself to be a god. Her whole life as she knows it crumbles after meeting Loki. How is he so different from all the others the TVA had succeeded in erasing? And why? Why did [Y/N]’s heart stir every time he looked at her, as if peering into her very soul?
Note From Author: Wow, how long has it been since I last posted? Well, wait no more! Here is part 8! Finally, am I right? Sadly, I can’t promise consistency with my future posts, but I’ll try to get these next few parts out every other week.
Part 8 - Alias
“Who’s [Y/N]?”
[Y/N] repeated the question again when neither Lokis graced her with a response. The female variant seemed to genuinely not know who she was referring to, her expression showing more exasperation than understanding, and Loki… He just looked confused.
“What?”
“You heard me.” [Y/N]’s face crinkled into an impatient frown. “I’m going to ask you one last time. Who. Is. [Y/N]?”
There was still no answer. And how could there be?
Loki whole-heartedly believed that this was [Y/N]. It was impossible that she could be anyone else. It certainly wasn’t magic that made her look this way. Her face. Her voice. Her very presence. There was no one else she could possibly be. But… Her question… He could tell from the look in her eyes. She really didn’t know who “[Y/N]” was. That realization rattled his resolve to its very core.
No… He shook himself from the rising panic. That’s impossible. That feeling… Her powers… They’re hers.
While Loki was internally consoling himself, trying to think rationally from his rising nerves she had unknowingly inflicted, [Y/N] continued to wait in silence. Every change on Loki’s face registered perfectly clear to her. From utter confusion, to pale realization, then slight panic, and finally back to a sense of calm. They were all vividly apparent to [Y/N] who didn’t look away from the god.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that the answer to her question was vital. That this answer was something that would shake the very foundation of her life. That this would be a turning moment that could change everything. And the more that feeling began to take root, the more it began to scare her.
A small part in the back of [Y/N]’s mind urged her to not ask anymore. To turn away from the question. To accept silence as an acceptable answer. It was like some distant part of her was telling her to just let this go… As if… As if just knowing would really break her.
But another part of her adamantly resisted that fear. She could feel her heart thumping loudly in her chest as the name kept ringing in her ears. She had to know. She needed to know. It wasn’t just her head that was telling her things, but also her heart. She needed to know who that was. Who was [Y/N]? And why was this person so important to her?
The slight rumbling in the distance was all that could be heard between the two. They were so focused on each other, that they had forgotten one crucial thing. It wasn’t just [Y/N] and Loki here.
The rogue variant didn’t miss this opportunity.
She inched closer to Loki, the one who had hidden the TemPad away, and snaked her arms toward his neck. The move lacked any killing intent, so the two were caught completely unaware as the female Loki’s fingers glowed an eerie green and were placed upon Loki’s exposed neck, with an unusually gentle touch.
[Y/N]’s eyes widened, not expecting this sort of situation, and couldn’t quite understand what was going on. Still, she readied her battle stance, observing for any changes. But… Seconds trickled by and the longer she waited, the more [Y/N] couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward. Even Loki, the target of the “attack,” couldn’t help but stare at the female variant, dumbfounded. Nothing seemed to be happening.
“What are you doing?” Loki asked as he eyed the variant strangely.
“What are you doing?” She countered.
“Are you trying to enchant me?”
Enchant? [Y/N] thought to herself as she calmed her welling powers back down.
“It won’t work,” Loki continued as the two variants stared each other down.
It seemed like this female Loki tried to use some sort of magic on her male counterpart, but something went wrong. Whether it was because he was a “magician,” as the female called him, or because his mind was too strong as Loki proclaimed, enchantment had no effect on him.
“Fine!” The female variant grunted as she took out her blade.
Loki took out his own in response.
“Enough!” [Y/N] yelled, her voice dripping in anger. “I’ve had it up to here with your fighting!”
She felt like she was talking to children! Not that she did much of that in the TVA, but she couldn’t help but feel like she was the only adult amongst the three. If she could put aside her close-to-murderous grudge against this variant, then these two should be able to put aside whatever they had against each other and think about their current predicament!
“Now, either we work together to get off of this God-forsaken planet, or get the hell out and get yourselves killed!”
[Y/N] was done. She really was. If they couldn’t work together, they were all dead. They couldn’t get off this planet without the TemPad, which Loki had hidden. They couldn’t charge said TemPad without this female Loki. How she understood the workings of the TemPad when it was past [Y/N]’s level of clearance was beyond [Y/N], but she decided to brush that aside for now. And as for herself? Well, she just got dragged into this mess! Literally. And… And now she was most likely labeled a traitor, knowing Ravonna’s mindset. She went out of her way to save a variant, which led to them escaping onto this doomed planet. So… Why prolong the inevitable? They were all dead anyways, even if they were able to escape.
And what about this “[Y/N]”? The question surrounding who “[Y/N]” was and why Loki had called her by that name? Well, the curiosity had died down after witnessing these two variants' squabbling. It was still very present, but not enough to deter her from the big picture: Surviving long enough to find out.
They didn’t have the time for her useless curiosity. Besides, the most logical explanation was that Loki knew “[Y/N],” and perhaps this person looked a bit like herself. It wasn’t uncommon. The universe was a vast and almost infinite jumble of possibilities. She had lived long enough to know it first hand.
The two Lokis were silent for a long time. They acted like children who were caught in the act and scolded. Then, someone finally broke the silence.
“The plan you interrupted was years in the making.”
The female variant was genuinely frustrated. Her voice carried a bit of exhaustion, as if the thought of her having to start anew was draining at her. Whatever she had planned for the TVA, it had consumed most of her life. But, one little act from this new Loki had set her plan ablaze. She could never get that time back, so yes. She was extremely frustrated.
“Years!”
But [Y/N] had a point.
“As soon as I turn that TemPad back on, I’m going straight back to the TVA to finish what I started.”
“And we’ll be ready,” [Y/N] scoffed, not believing in the slightest that this one variant could make even a dent in the TVA’s defenses. “But keep dreaming. That might actually help us make some progress off this rock of a planet.”
“Tell me why we’re still keeping you alive?” She challenged, her weapon still at the ready.
“Truce,” Loki interjected before [Y/N] could say anything back. “This is a temporary truce.”
[Y/N] rolled her eyes, as she started walking back towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Loki asked as he grabbed onto her hand.
Her frown deepened at his touch. She could feel the internal conflict between that small inner voice and her heart were getting more intense the closer he was to her. A slight headache began to form, so she firmly shook off his hold. The flash of disappointment she felt at her own actions made her scowl, clenching her teeth, as she ignored his question and walked out the door.
“There’s power somewhere on this moon,” the female variant said, brushing past the strange tension between the two, as she matter-of-factly explained. “We just need enough to travel through inter-dimensional time and space.”
Then, the three exited the safety of the metal walls and walked outside once more.

“So, you’re ignoring me now? Really?”
[Y/N] felt the space between her brows become sore. She was never known as the happiest in the TVA, but she most certainly wasn’t the grumpiest. At least, not since she was taken in by Mobius. So, she was definitely not used to how frequently she was scrunching her brows. And the source of her irritation kept pestering her.
“Can you shut up?” the female variant snapped, unable to take any more. “Just because I have to work with the two of you doesn’t mean I wanna be stuck in your annoying lovers’ quarrel.”
“He’s not-” [Y/N] began.
“Don’t interrupt, Variant,” Loki interjected as he jogged up to the two women briskly walking forward.
“Don’t call me, ‘Variant,’” his counterpart shot back with a glare.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not calling some faded photocopy of me, ‘Loki.’”
“Good. ‘Cause that’s not who I am anymore. I’m Sylvie now.”
[Y/N] glanced at the female variant, her eyebrows slightly unfurling.
“You changed your name. Brilliant.”
“It’s called an alias.”
As she heard them bickering again, [Y/N]’s thoughts trailed off as the word, “alias,” replayed in her head. She recalled back to the time she was still doing the grunt work at the TVA. Just a mindless, numbered drone amongst the many others. One of the worst moments in what felt like an eternity.
Z-73, [Y/N] thought to herself as she remembered her old name. Her old title. Every member of the TVA had a title. On rare instances, some came up with names for themselves. They were often those outcasted by the others or someone with too much time on their hands. It was only when they were bestowed a name by the Time Keepers, a symbol of worth for their new position, that it was acceptable to shed their numbers. Ravonna Renslayer was one of them. Mobius was another. [Y/N] on the other hand…
“What do you want to be called?”
Mobius had asked her that question so long ago that she couldn’t even remember the time.
“What?”
[Y/N] had responded with the most bewildered expression. She had just been recruited by Mobius, and after seeing her expression whenever her number was called, he had suddenly sprung the question on her.
“What do you want to be called?”
Mobius repeated his question with a gentle smile, as if coaxing a wary child.
It took her a long while to process his question. In fact, it made her mind go blank and she couldn’t come up with an appropriate answer. It was extremely rare for a hunter, especially one that went out onto the field to protect the Sacred Timeline, to pick a name for themselves. If it was the Time Keepers that bestowed you a name… It was a sign of honor amongst the TVA. And yet… Someone with that very symbol of worth and honor… Someone like Mobius was asking her what she’d like to be called. Was this a test? A test of loyalty?
“Take your time,” Mobius answered after a long period of silence. “And don’t get me wrong. It’s not a name, per say. Hmmmm,” he added with a theatrical hum, “Think of it like an alias.”
“An alias?” [Y/N] cluelessly repeated.
“Yeah.” Mobius nodded. “An alias. In your reports, it’ll still be Z-73. But when I’m just talking to you, off the record, I’ll call you by your alias.”
“You’re strange.” [Y/N] finally cracked a smile.
“In this place, that’s a compliment.” His friendly grin widened from knowing that he was able to make you smile. “And-”
“-Could that charge the TemPad?”
[Y/N] snapped from her trance and looked up at the question.
“Maybe,” Sylvie replied as she rushed up the ramp.
After being lost in her fond memories for who-knows-how-long, [Y/N] began to register her surroundings. It seemed like they somehow made their way into a deserted town. Perhaps not even that.
Run down buildings. Old, rusted metal. Litter along the ground. And not a single person in sight. A ghost town.
[Y/N] looked around, further out towards the distance, but felt a gentle tug that guided her towards where Sylvie had run to. She quickly looked down, only just realizing that in her moment of absent-mindedness she was being steered in the right direction to not get left behind. That’s when [Y/N] finally saw her hand enveloped in Loki’s. And that he was still holding onto her.
“Okay,” Sylvie called out, startling [Y/N] from her daze as she snatched her hand back from Loki’s gentle grip. “Hand it over.”
Her cheeks were on fire as [Y/N] desperately tried to hide her embarrassment.
Shit! [Y/N] cursed at herself, not even looking at Loki. [Y/A], you’ve really gone and done it this time! Have you lost your mind? You must’ve gone crazy. How could you let your mind wander like that?! What were you thinking? And among two variants, no less! Has the TVA taught you nothing???
In her moment of self-reproach, the sound of a faint scoff registered in her ears.
[Y/N] glanced up, only to see Loki snickering as he looked down at the hand that was holding onto hers not that long ago. And though the air was filled with the sound of his condescending laughter, his eyes did not shine with the same energy.
“Pitiful,” He murmured to himself, so low that neither [Y/N] or Sylvie could hear it. It was as if he was speaking to himself. Referring only to himself. Laughing at himself.
“I’m not giving it to you,” Loki continued, now looking up at Sylvie and placing his two hands at his hips. “You’re gonna have to try harder than that.”
“Then don’t give me your ‘tech savvy’ ideas either,” Sylvie sneered back, using air quotes to emphasize those two words.
And with that, [Y/N] turned back to the situation at hand and glanced at the pink, neon sign that Sylvie had just stepped away from. That’s when everything about their conversation clicked into place.
“A sign of that magnitude wouldn’t be able to charge the TemPad,” [Y/N] explained as her nerves finally calmed down and her mind raced with all the files of Lamentis she ever came across. They were old memories, but at least some details were retained.
“The Ark. That’s where we need to go.”
She was about to look around, in an attempt to find signs of where their new destination could possibly be, when she realized that the two looked at one another before looking back at her. As if they were waiting for her to continue. To explain.
“The Ark?” [Y/N] repeated, but their blank looks only confirmed her suspicion. “Unbelievable.” She couldn’t help but huff in exasperation as she turned her attention to Sylvie. “You were making such a fuss about Lamentis and you didn’t even know about the Ark?”
“Truce, remember?” Loki chimed in before Sylvie could say anything this time around.
“The evacuation vessel.” [Y/N] sighed as she massaged her growing migraine. “The reason this place is so void of life. The reason everyone here has fled and is still clinging onto the hope that they can be saved from this apocalypse.”
“Something like that would have enough juice to re-power the TemPad,” Sylvie replied as she finally registered what [Y/N] was getting at.
“How do we get there?” Loki asked after coming to the same conclusion and already moving on to their next step.
“We find someone,” [Y/N] answered as she looked away from the two and scanned their surroundings. “Someone to ask for directions.”

Summary: Time passes - and Loki just can't forget you. What if he meets you again, but it doesn't turn out how he wished it would? Is there still hope for a happy end?

Time was passing fast - as fast as it could tick by while being 'stuck' at the TVA.
A lot had happened.
Mobius and Loki became best friends, first and foremost. They learned to trust each other and how to work together. Ravonna Renslayer disappeared - only the Norns knew where to, and the 'Time Keepers' had been overthrown and were now replaced by a council - for which everybody who wanted could vote. All of the workers knew now, that they were variants. It was chaotic and messy at first, but Loki and Mobius offered them to get their memories back - which took an awful lot of time, but it was worth it. Friends found each other again, just like family members, couples, classmates - hel, even neighbours.
It was part of the compromise.
For the safety of the time line everybody must stay at the TVA. Time lines still had to be reset, because everybody realised that there were only two ways... Strict order or complete chaos. Sure, it was cruel and unfair, but life just wasn't.
Unlike before, though, variants didn't get pruned as before. They got a thoroughly detailed explanation what was happening and how thinks worked here. They got offered a job. A home to stay. A chance to reunite with other variants they might know. A new life.
And the concept worked.

"Are you still thinking about her?" Mobius' voice urged to Loki's ears, as they sat across from each other in their lunch break; eating a slice of cake for dessert. Well... Mobius ate it. Loki was more or less absent-mindedly poking around with a fork in the poor deliciousness. At Mobius' words, though, he stopped and looked up; being snapped out of his thoughts.
The god sighed; "I think about her every day, Mobius." shaking his head. "I can't forget. Neither the memories, nor what could've been. And especially not Y/N." Like so often, when Loki's brain put him through the torturous memories of what had happend quite a while ago, here, in the TVA, as Mobius threw him inside his very own sweet, cruel dream, tears started to form in his eyes.
Mobius' eyes softened. He felt for his friend and was truly sorry about this tragedy. "I know you can't - and I'm so sorry. I was the one who put you through this." Once again, Loki shook his head. "You couldn't know. Stop blaming yourself." "Says you."
That caused the faintest of smiles to dart over the god's face. It didn't last, though.
"Sometimes I wish I could forget, you know. Get rid of all the heartache and pain. Stop getting tortured, but..." He swallowed hard; trying to hold back the tears. "All I have left of her are my memories." In vain. A single tear was running down his cheek and dripping onto the wooden surface of the table. "But I'd rather die than losing my memories of Y/N. It's a curse. A doom loop."
Mobius sighed. "I wish I could help you... Bring her somehow to you, but... I can't." "I know, Mobius... I know..." Silence spread between the two men, but before Loki could fall deeper into the dark hole which was his own mind, the agent decided to get him - like so often out of it.
"Come on," he said; standing up. "Let's keep on working. Still got a lot to do." Loki agreed and stood up as well. They both cleaned up their place and left the cafeteria, in order to keep on working.

"I see you tomorrow." Loki nodded; giving his friend a faint smile and turned to walk away. "And hey!" The god stopped in his tracks; facing Mobius once more. "Don't think too much. I know it's hard, but... Try it, okay?" "Yeah..." "Good."
Loki's and Mobius' shift had actually ended over an hour ago, but the two worked a bit overtime; keeping Loki distracted and to get some more work done. Now, the god was on his way home, when suddenly B-15 appeared beside Loki.
"Loki."
He stopped; turning to talk to his friend. "Oh, hey B. You good?" She smiled; giving him a nod. "Sure. You, too?" The god faked a smile and nodded. "How's work going?" "Good, but, uh, I'm in a bit of a hurry and... Can you do me a favour?" Anything to distract myself. "Of course, sure. I've got time." Loki shrugged his shoulders and buried his hands in his brown work trousers. "What do you want me to do?"
B-15 held up her TemPad. "Can you bring this to the Repairs & Advancements department?" The god took the TemPad. "Sure. Um, where do I find the department? I think I've never been there."
After B-15 described Loki how he'd get to his next destination, she thanked her friend and left.
Loki headed down several hallways, before he stepped into the elevator; pressing the lowest button. It took the machine a whole while to get him on this very floor. It felt like an eternity for him - but ultimately, the familiar 'ding' tone echoed through the small space and the doors slid open. They revealed a long, high hallway with mint green cabinets lining the right side of the hallway. A lot of different things were stacked on said cabinets.
Loki gazed around; scanning his surroundings. It looked kind of... messy. Chaotic.
Hesitatingly, he stepped out of the elevator and walked cautiously down the hallway. Am I right here? He saw nobody else. Not a single soul. Sure, the lights were on; actually creating a bright and somehow cosy atmosphere, but... Nevertheless was this all a bit creepy. The god kept on walking, until he reached a room. That must be it. Hunter said the first room on the left.
He stepped inside. The room was big, high, utterly chaotic and yet organised. Big kind of racks lined the sidewalls; every shelf filled to the brim. In the middle was a huge oval-shaped counter with several things and stuff laying around on it. Most of them Loki even couldn't name. And whatever it was that hung from the ceiling, Loki had never seen something similar before.
Nobody was to be seen - or well... That's how it seemed. He stepped forward, until he reached the counter - on which stood written in big, black letters: Repairs & Advancements. Must be right, then.
"Hello?"
No answer.
"Hellooo?! Somebody here?!"
Again, Loki received no answer. He waited a few moments; let a few minutes pass - but nothing.
"Why would Hunter send me to this place, if nobody is even here?" Loki said out loud - more to himself; frowning. Shrugging his shoulders, he just placed the TemPad on the counter in front of him and turned to leave - only to completely freeze in motion mere seconds later.
"Wait, wait! I'm here, I'm here! Hello! Don't leave!" A female voice suddenly echoed through the big room; followed by some loud noises. Loki froze in place. He knew that voice. It was all too familiar to him. He didn't hear it in a painfully long time - only in his head; and he thought he'd never hear it again... You. It was your voice.
Loki felt like he was struck by lightning and hit by a truck at the same time. His mind and emotions were running wild. Was this... reality? Could this be true? Or was it again just a cruel illusion? Or by the Norns, did he go mad? Was it all just in his head?
He didn't dare to turn around. Too afraid to be disappointed and heartbroken again, but also curious at the same time; his heart already screaming at him to run to you.
"Apologies! I didn't have a visitor in, uhhh, was it 200 or 300 years... Anyways, please don't go! How can I help you?" There was your voice again. But closer. And Loki couldn't help himself, but to turn around. His head fighting a battle against his heart, which was already lost the moment he heard you call out for the first time.
So, he turned around, slowly; facing the counter once again. His breath hitched in his throat; eyes widening and jaw slacking. Every muscle in his body tensed, but also lost control at the same time.
There you stood, behind the counter with that beautiful kind smile on your face. Your hair was bound together in a messy bun with a few loose strands framing your face. You wore some kind of brown, beige and green overall and looked like a... mechanic?
Tears started to pool in the god's eyes.
"Y-Y/N?" He halfway sobbed; voice hoarse. "A-Are you... Are you real? I-Is this... r-real?"
You frowned; scrunched your nose in the cutest way possible. "I, uh, I think you confuse me with somebody else. My name is Ouroborus, not Y/N - but you can call me O.B."
Loki's facial expression derailed. It felt like getting Hulk-smashed full force - until realisation hit him. She doesn't remember... Of course, she doesn't remember! She's been brainwashed, just like the others.
Loki shook his head frantically, before making quick steps towards you. "No... Your name isn't Ouroborus - and you'll remember me in a few seconds, my love."
You frowned even more and absolutely didn't understand why that strange TVA worker suddenly touched your arm gently. He was gazing into your eyes like you meant the world to him - and you didn't know why. What is wrong with him and why is he so... desperate and shaken?
Shaking your head softly, you pulled your arm away; out of his gentle grasp. "I'm sorry, but, um... Do... Do we know each other?"
Loki's heart fell and shattered into a million pieces at the impact. She can't remember me... Why can't she remember me?! Still!
"W-What?" He breathed out; the tears starting to fall once again. "It can't be..." You could practically feel the desperation radiating off of him. "I-I don't understand, I... W-Why is it not working?"
You watched the strange man pace up and down; ruffling his wild raven curls. What a weird thing to happen... There you were, living your peaceful life, repairing several things the TVA workers send you, with nobody actually visiting you for hundreds of years and suddenly - out of the blue, there was this man and did... that? You honestly couldn't quite believe what was happening in front of your eyes, and yet you felt a wave of... sympathy for him. Compassion.
You got ripped from your thoughts, as you felt two warm, strong hands softly gripping the sides of your upper arms. You blinked, only to realise that the man was leaning over the counter; oceanic blue eyes seemingly staring straight into your soul.
"Y/N, please... Please tell me you can remember...."
He was so close that you were able to actually smell him. Leather; something fresh and fruity you couldn’t point out and a mix of sultry musk and charred wood.
You blinked; softly shaking your head.
"I-I don't, I-"
Loki dropped his hands abruptly with a frustrated, sad sigh and stepped back. His eyebrows slanted, as he lifted his hands to gesture at himself; fingertips literally digging themselves into the clothed flesh of his chest. "It's me, Y/N..."
So slowly, he was frightening you a bit. His sheer maniac frustration. He seemed to be obsessed... with you?
"Sir, I'm really sorry. I-I don't know what happened to you, or the person you are looking for, but I'm asking you to leave now. I'll take a look at that TemPad and send it back as soon as I repaired it."
Loki's body slumped; all hope leaving his body.
Days, weeks, months, years ago, you were so far and unreachable. Now you were so close suddenly, and yet still out of his reach. It wasn't fair.
Loki stumbled backwards, overwhelmed by the whole situation and your request for him to leave.
"I-I'm so sorry... So sorry..." The god mumbled, before literally turning on his heels and running; trying to escape the nightmare he had fallen into. Or was it a dream?
He ran to the elevator, pressing the button quickly; repeatedly - almost as if something was hunting him down. As soon as the doors shut close and the machinery started to move him upwards, Loki pressed himself against the brown wall; breathing heavily. He was completely beside himself; on the verge of losing his mind.
Did that just really happen?
Not knowing what to do, he absent-mindedly stumbled down the hallways of the TVA, until he landed on the doorstep of the little house of his best friend...
His fist hit the wooden door; begging for entrance. "Mobius..." And again. "Mobius, please... Open the door." No minute later, the grey-haired man with the moustache answered the god's pleas and opened up the door.
"Loki?" Mobius asked with a frown; still dressed in the familiar TVA shirt and trousers. His eyes settled on Loki. He saw the tears in his eyes... How puffy and red they were. He could tell that Loki was devastated and... traumatised? It alarmed the agent. He had never seen his friend like that before.
"What happened?!"
A single tear was running down the god's cheek. "She can't remember, Mobius. I-I tried to give her all the memories back, b-but she can't remember... It's not working!"
Loki's words confused Mobius. He hadn't a single clue what this was all about.
"Who, Loki? Who? What are you talking about?"
Loki stared aimlessly into distance; swallowing hard.
"Y/N..."
This confused the agent even more. And he was highly concerned; given the fact that his best friend seemed... disorientated and not quite himself...
Gently grabbing Loki by his shoulder, he urged him to step inside his house. "Come in." The god let himself get 'dragged' inside wordlessly; without any resistance. Mobius guided him to the kitchen; stopping in front of the small dining table and pulling back a chair. "Sit down, take a breath and tell me exactly what happend, okay?" Loki nodded; did what Mobius told him to do and sat down.
Loki needed a moment to sort his thoughts and process what he had just experienced - which wasn't quite easy...
"B-15... She- I met her on my way home after our shift. She asked me if I could bring her TemPad down to the Repairs & Advancements department a-and-" "The Repairs & Advancements department?" "Y-Yes?" Mobius shook his head; visibly trying to think. "I honestly don't know if I was ever down there... Perhaps... Perhaps not... And you went there?" Loki nodded; feeling his emotions get stuck in his throat again. "Yes. I-I found her, Mobius. She's there. S-She-" "Who? Who did you find?" The agent interrupted his friend.
Another tear rolled down the god's cheek; his heart rate picking up at the thought of you. "Y/N... My Y/N..." Mobius' eyes widened. "What?! Y/N? She's there? Here? In the TVA?" Loki nodded; a black curl falling into his face. "Yes, but... She... She can't remember, Mobius. I tried to give her back all the memories, but... It didn't work."
The agent frowned. "What do you mean it didn't work? It worked with everybody here. With every variant. And now you're telling me that Y/N is... immune to it?"
"Yes."
Mobius went silent; answered nothing, and strained Loki's patience with it.
"What am I going to do now, Mobius? I-I can't pretend this never happened. I can't just ignore her! This is the woman I love! My heart, body and soul are yearning for her! I-" "I know, I know," the agent interrupted his friend. "Take a deep breath. We're going to find a way, okay?" Loki nodded; followed his order.
"What if..." Mobius started; thinking. "What if it has something to do with your feelings for her? Could this change something in your magic? I mean... You don't have a past with every other variant here and barely know them, but Y/N is different." Loki shrugged his shoulders; still a bit overwhelmed. "I-I don't know... It shouldn't. After all, it worked with you and Hunter, too - and you are my friends. We do have a past."
Mobius sighed. "Point taken." Loki was right.
"Well, in that case... I currently can't think of another solution than making her fall in love with you again. Perhaps she remembers then."
Loki blinked. "Make her fall in love with me again? You mean... Woo her, take her out on dates and court her properly?" "Exactly."
The god swallowed hard. This was not how he hoped this would go, but what other choice did he have right now?

Loki needed a few days, until he set foot in the Repairs & Advancements department once again. His brain, but especially his heart had a hard time catching up with what was happening... You were constantly on his mind. All day long - and at night, he saw you in his dreams. It was even worse than before.
Now, he stepped cautiously down the lonely hallway towards you again, taking deep breaths. He decided to best start with an apology - and that was exactly what he wanted to do now.
"H-Hello?" Loki entered the big room. "O...Ouroborus?" It felt so wrong to call you by that name and not your real one. "I, uh, I came here to apologise! I didn't mean to scare you. It's just... I lost somebody who was very important to me and you reminded me of her." You suddenly appeared from behind the counter, smiling softly. "Apology accepted. I'm sorry you lost her. Sounds very hard to lose someone important..." The god swallowed again; noticing how hard it was to keep his feelings at bay and under control.
"It truly is. Again... My apologies." "You're forgiven-, uh... What's your name, actually?" You asked with a bubbly giggle. "Loki." "Well, then... You're forgiven, Loki." His name leaving your lips caused a shiver to run down his spine; butterflies running wild inside his belly.
"Thank you."
From that day on, Loki tried to spent as much time with you as possible, in order to test out Mobius' theory and hoping to make you fall in love with him again. He tried to be his funny, charming, mischievous self - but after a while he had the feeling, that he was not making any progress. He took you on 'date' after 'date' after 'date', but that was it. You'd always talk about work, colleagues and the TVA in general. It was not very often, that the conversations became a lot more personal. Loki really tried everything possible to woo you; always stayed positive and didn't give up hope, but the feeling he had was anything but good - and he should be proven right...
Being the gentleman Loki was, he always accompanied you home after each 'date' and made sure that you arrived safely - just like today.
You stopped in front of the small door, fishing out the keys of your handbag and turned the lock, before turning to face the man again. "Thank you, Loki," you said; giving him a soft smile; which he returned. "No need to thank me, dar- O.B. It's a privilege to accompany your date home." Your smile faltered a bit; almost impossible to see, but Loki caught it anyway. Did I say something wrong?
"Good night, Loki. Thanks for paying dinner." He gave you a court nod, "As I said... Privilege." and paused for a moment.
"Would you... Would you like to come over sometime next week? After work? I-I could cook something for us and we could enjoy the rest of the evening with a glass of wine on the sofa." Loki had never invited you to stay at his - until now, and therefore was he slightly nervous. He couldn't help himself. His heart forced him to make the next move; suffering already way too long. The vital organ felt like a decaying rose since you had re-entered the god's life...
Flowers need water to live - and your love was the water Loki's heart needed.
You swallowed hard; body tensing up visibly. Something shifted within your demeanour. He noticed.
"Loki, that... That's really very kind of you and a sweet idea..." Your words send his heart and hope skyrocketing. Could this be finally the moment I waited such a long time for? Like a fool blinded by love, he didn't notice the hesitant undertone in your voice.
"But, uhm... I'm really sorry to say that, 'cause you've been very generous and kind to me... Uhm... I know you try to impress me. And maybe you feel more than just friendship, but... I don't feel quite the same." You took a deep breath; your words felt like a painfully tight grip around the god's heart.
"You are very nice, but absolutely not the type of men I'm into. I, uh, don't want something romantically with you. Sorry..."
And his heart crumbled to dust underneath your hand; all hope came crashing down. Loki wanted to cry and scream from the agonising pain within his chest - but he didn't. Instead, he just nodded wordlessly. "I-I understand. Thank you for your honesty. Good night," he more or less rushed out, before he turned to quickly walk away, since the tears started to already form in his eyes. He had absolute no intention to break down right in front of you. He'd rather do that at home - and he did.
That night and the few nights which followed, the god more or less cried himself to sleep. The small spark of hope he had carried within his body was gone. Extinguished. Non-existent. Nothing was able to cheer him up. Neither his best friend, nor B-15 - who was shocked to learn that she had send her friend unknowingly back to the love of his life. The Norns knew they tried, but... In vain. Just like Hunter and Mobius had no solution for the memory problem...
Loki stopped visiting you. Took his distance; knowing very well that he couldn't just treat you like a friend.

Days turned into weeks, but it was the same like before... Loki couldn't forget you and especially his feelings for you. You seemed to follow him everywhere. He often dreamed of you. Almost every night. A thin line between torture and bliss - until one dream changed everything...
A young Loki came to stand beside his mother; the cape of his ceremonial armour gently billowing in the wind. "I can sense your happiness, son," Frigga started; turning her head to look at him. "I take it your attempts to woo Lady Y/N have been successful?"
Loki blushed in the deepest shades of red at his mother's words. "M-Mother, I, um, w-we..." The young prince stumbled over his own words, trying to explain himself, but the Queen only shook her head softly.
"No chance in denying, Loki. I saw the kiss you shared. And besides, I'm neither blind nor stupid. It was only a matter of time. But finally, we got that kiss." She winked - and Loki literally jumped up in his bed; wide awake. The dream triggered another memory, which had been locked deep down somewhere in his brain. His eyes widened.
A kiss...
Perhaps that was what it would take... A kiss.
Loki had remembered a bedtime story which his mother would tell him and Thor, back when they were small kids. Toddlers, perhaps even. The story was called 'Sleeping Beauty' - a Midgardian fairytale, in which a beautiful princess falls into a deep slumber due to an evil magic spell, and the only way to save her is, of course, true love. So, the handsome prince kisses her - and she awakes.
Isn't the TVA exactly the same somehow?
As stupid as it might sounded, Loki had to try. He'd try anything to get you back.
He jumped out of his bed; quickly slipping into his TVA clothes. A look on the watch told him, that he'd have to get up for work soon anyway, so he had some time to get to you, before his shift started. With a snap of his fingers was he ready to leave his small home; teeth brushed, raven locks tamed and body clean. Usually, he didn't use his seidr for this, but today...
Loki was almost running down the seemingly endless corridors of the TVA, before he reached the elevator and only a few moments later the Repairs & Advancements department. Confident and trusting in the brainwave he just had, the god strutted down the last hallway, separating him from you.
Entering the big, familiar room, he looked around; eyes searching you - and to his luck, he indeed found you. You were standing on the left, in front of the huge shelf, inspecting some... device. Not beating around the bush - and not losing any more precious time, he quickly stepped over to you.
You were deep in thoughts; focused on your work and task ahead. Once the approaching steps had gotten from your ears to your brain, it was already too late.
Being suddenly yanked into someone's arms caused a yelp to escape your lips. "Loki?!" You squeaked with eyes wide open; caught like a deer in the headlights. "What by the Timekeepers are you doing?! Let go of me! I told you I am not-"
The god had heard enough. Before you were able to protest more, he leaned in and captured your lips with his; pouring all his love for you in the kiss.
While Loki relished in the feeling of your soft lips after such a long time, you were shocked. Appalled. You told him he wasn't your type and yet he makes a move on you? How rude... You wanted to push him away and ask him what the fuck he thought he is doing.
You had already lifted your hands; ready to shove him away, when it happened... Your brain felt suddenly like it was about to explode; a dam on the verge of breaking - and it did. Memories exploded within your head like fireworks... Asgard. Your childhood. Your parents. The first time you saw Loki. The first words you exchanged. The beautiful friendship you had shared with him, which melted into your first kiss. You remembered. How he had made love to you for the first time. Every dance and laugh you shared. His proposal. Everything.
You felt relieved; free. It was like the fog in your brain had finally lifted and you could think clear again. You could finally see him.
Your heart threatened to burst from the sudden rush of happiness and love you felt. You had lost Loki, landed in the TVA, were forced to forget him - and suddenly... He was right in front of you.
But then you felt how Loki wanted to break the kiss again - something you couldn't allow him to do. Before he could part his lips from yours, you pulled him quickly back in; literally throwing yourself into his arms. Unbeknownst to you, flew the god's eyes open and widened to the size of plates at your movement. Surprised and shocked, he gave into the kiss; just enjoying the moment - until he had to take a breath.
Deep Y/E/C eyes gazed into his; a teary smile on your face. You slowly lifted your hands to cup his chiselled cheeks; feeling his skin underneath your fingertips after such a long time, sending shivers down your spine. "Loki..."
His name leaving your lips caused his heart to skip a beat, as realisation hit him.
"You remember me?"
You nodded quickly; running a hand gently through his raven curls.
Tears spilled from Loki's eyes like waterfalls as he lifted you up into his arms; spinning you in a circle. You yelped up in surprise, but giggled almost deliriously; wrapping your arms around his neck.
"At last, I finally have you back, my love. I'm so sorry it took me so long to find a way back to you, I should have-" You shook your head; shushing him. "Shhh, my prince. Not now. Don't blame yourself." You pressed your forehead against his. "We have a lot to catch up to, but... Let us enjoy this moment, please. Just... hold me. Let me feel your touch. I've been starving for way too long."
How could Loki possibly refuse your request? He smiled through his tears and wrapped you up securely in his arms; kissing you slow and tender.

"Hey, C-4, have you seen Lo- Oh my goodness. Am I dreaming?" Both, Mobius and the other TVA worker were staring at the end of the hallway. C-4 in confusion and Mobius in shock. "I, uh, don't know? What do you mean exactly, Mobi-" Clapping his fellow co-worker absent-mindedly on the shoulder; eyes fixated on what was happening in front of him, he moved on. "Thanks, C-4. I got this."
You and Loki walked towards Mobius; smiling brightly. Loki had slipped his fingers through yours, holding your hand tightly. Stopping halfway to wait for for his friend, the god couldn't help but to pull you into a gentle kiss, causing you to giggle.
"Loki?" Mobius asked; still not quite believing what his eyes saw. "Am I dreaming this? Is that..." He gestures towards you. Loki chuckled, nodding. "Y/N, yes... My Y/N." His friend smiled. "So... She can finally remember? She has her memories back?" He nodded again; feeling how a lump formed in his throat once more. Happy tears were ready to fall.
"Yes... Finally, she remembers." Loki turned to you. "Darling, this is Mobius. He's my best friend." You smiled at the man opposite of you, stretching out your hand. "Very happy to meet you, Mobius. I'd introduce myself, but I guess my man here did that already, so..." Mobius returned the smile; shaking your hand. "In all those years, the one thing he loved to talk about, was you. It was really sweet." You giggled at his words; seeing Loki blush.
"How did you get her to remember? I thought you couldn't?" Mobius asked, after swallowing the piece of cake. He had invited you to eat a slice of cake together, catching up a bit.
Both, you and Loki smiled lovingly at each other; hands still intertwined. You just couldn't leave your hands off of him - just like Loki couldn't leave his hands off of you. "Well..." You started. "He's my prince. And just like a prince, he kissed me awake." "Because I am your true love." "Just like I am yours."
Mobius' eyes widened. "What? Like in that fairytale? What was its name again?" "Sleeping Beauty," said Loki with a smile. "Yes! That's the one." His friend nodded.
"Exactly like that, Mobius. I kissed her awake - and now she's mine again."

Being a variant was… difficult, to say the least. You had to continue living, knowing that you’d never be able to experience all the joys and sadness and anger the rest of your life had to offer. You were allowed to watch it over and over again, as many times as you wanted (when you weren’t working to please Ravonna Renslayer to convince her not to prune you). But it would never be the same as actually being there.
Your life wasn’t anything special. You had your ups and downs, you had your likes and dislikes.
And then someone came along and took you off your path, pulled you off of the Sacred Timeline.
You felt another sob in the back of your throat as you remembered that day. You were just minding your own business, and then she had to come along and… You slammed down the rest of your whiskey and signalled the bartender for more.
Mobius couldn’t find you. He searched your desk, his desk, the library - he felt like he was on a wild goose chase.
He was the agent who saved you from being reset. You had become a variant because of the variant Loki, and he believed you might be able to help him with the case. He couldn’t say you were actually any closer to cracking the case than he was, but you were still trying your best.
He walked into the cafeteria, the last place he could think to look, and found nothing. You weren’t here either. But, Casey was. You’d become friends with the office worker, trying to explain Earth things to him, even though Casey was about as intelligent as a rock. He didn’t even know what a rock was.
“Hey, have you seen Y/N?” His sudden presence startled the desk jockey, and he apologized under his breath for it. His mind was too preoccupied to offer a full apology.
Casey nodded, pointing in a vague direction. “Yeah, they went to the bar, I think.”
Mobius’ brow furrowed. “Since when have we had a bar?”
Casey shrugged.
“Don’t you think you’ve had enough?”
This was the bartenders third attempt at cutting you off… Or was it her fourth? It didn’t matter. You shook your head and held out your glass, and she filled it up anyway.
“Y/N!” A hand was suddenly on your shoulder. With your dulled reflexes, you barely reacted. You weren’t sure you would have even if you were drunk. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
“That’s probably what my mom would say…” Your eyes watered again, tears already spilling out the sides. “If she knew I was here.”
Your body shook with sobs. They were hard and ugly. Your body could barely keep up, breathing heavily just to get some semblance of oxygen back into your lungs.
Mobius was shocked. He didn’t think… Well, of course, being a variant must have been hard, but…
He wrapped his arms around you, shifting your dead-weight body so you weren’t hunched over the bar, and pulled you into something that might have looked like a hug to some alien species. He pried the drink from your hand, setting it on the bar for the bartender to take. And he just let you cry.
He rubbed your back and pet your hair, and eventually sat down on a stool next to you to keep himself from falling over. He cooed what kind words he knew into your ears, assuring you that it would be okay - somehow, and that he was there for you.
When your sobs turned into little more than hiccups, he pulled back enough to see your red, puffy face. It made his heart ache.
“Hey, let’s get you to bed, alright?”
You nodded weakly, sniffling and wiping at your eyes. Mobius helped clean you up with some napkins from the bar, too.
He helped you stand and kept a supportive arm around your waist, carrying most of your weight against him as you both began the long trek to the elevator.
You’d been staying at the TVA so long, Ravonna was nice enough (Mobius begged her and may have bribed her with rare alcohol) to give you a room to stay in. It was right next to Mobius’, just in case there were any “issues”. Getting drunk and getting you to bed probably fell under those issues, right?
Getting to your room is more of an ordeal than Mobius previously thought it would be. You were stumbling half the time, and not walking at all the other half. Still, your little whimpers, talking about home and your pets and your family, spurred him on with little more than a sigh and a gentle, “Come on, we’re almost there.”
He helped you take off your shoes and tie, and stood by the door with his back turned as you changed into your pajamas in case you needed help. He made a mental note to talk to Ravonna about getting some of your items from home, like your own personal pjs and books, and exactly what alcohol he’d have to bribe her with this time.
“‘M done…”
He turned his head first, looking over his shoulder carefully, just to make sure you were actually dressed. He had to admit: You looked pretty cute in the TVA-issued pajamas.
“They fit okay?”
You hummed. You were already sitting on your bed. You looked exhausted. Mobius sat down next to you, his weight shifting the bed, and you didn’t stop your head from falling to his shoulder.
He ignored how his heart leapt at the sight of you, so small and fragile, resting against him like that.
It wasn’t the first time he had to ignore his heart because you did something he found adorable. You trying to explain what dogs were to Casey was the most recent, but by far this was the cutest. He didn’t think any of the other things his heart had reacted to had involved you touching him, and especially not like this.
He cursed his brain. Now was not the time to be thinking about this.
He cleared his throat as gently as possible, to bring his mind back to the present and get your attention. “Did you want to talk about it?”
You hummed a “no”.
He didn’t press the subject further.
“You should sleep,” he told you. His voice was soft and caring. It reminded you of home. “I don’t know how much you drank, but we still get hangovers here.”
You chuckled slightly. Yes, the TVA was all powerful, but god forbid someone drink too much. “As long as you have Tylenol, I’ll survive.”
He nodded, chuckling softly himself. “Yeah, I’m sure we do.”
You didn’t want to pull away from him. He was warm and safe, and even if this position did hurt your neck, it didn’t matter, because it was Mobius. But, you had to.
With a sigh, you sat up straight once more and pushed yourself to lay on one side of the large mattress. You struggled with the blankets, but Mobius helped you out. Once you were settled in, he patted your leg and stood up.
Panic gripped your heart.
You reached forward and grabbed for his hand, managing to grab on to his brown coat instead. His attention was caught, nonetheless.
“Please don’t go.” You tugged as best as you could on his sleeve to pull him toward the bed, barely moving his arm. “Stay with me... Please?”
How could he possibly say no to that?
Mobius nodded, gently prying your hand off his coat and giving it a reassuring squeeze. “Okay, okay. I’ll stay.”

“What do you have to tell me?”

His chest felt light. He… couldn’t really put the feelings into words. He’d never felt so warm and light before. His heart was pounding, brain running a million miles a second trying to put those words together, even when they were laid out before him so clearly.
By the time his mouth caught up to his brain, you were already snoring. He chuckled, at himself mostly. For the usually quick-witted investigator to be stunned silent…
He brushed a strand of hair back from your face, smiling to himself. No jetski could compare to this feeling.
He leaned his head back against the pillow and stared at the ceiling for a while, just thinking. His mind ran through everything a relationship between a TVA agent and a variant would entail, but it also reminded him of all the wonderful things that came with it. Just the idea of sleeping in the same bed as you like this put an unwavering smile on his face as he allowed his eyes to close, ready to drift off and talk to you in the morning. After all...

Mobius groaned as he walked into the sunset lit home. Work was always stressful, but never as stressful as today. Even though he worked in a time-nulled zone, the day never seemed like it was going to end. Mobius began to hang his coat and tie in the entryway. He noticed your jacket was already hanging in its usual spot, which plastered a grin on his face. No matter how many times he saw your hairbrush, dirty dishes or jacket, Mobius would feel like the luckiest man in all the universes. Seeing the little bits of you always let him know that you were still alive. 
Mobius stopped reminiscing and kicked off his shoes and dropped his bag before walking towards the kitchen, where he assumed you would be.
“Y/N?” he spoke, rounding the corner.

“Hey, I’ll be back. Let me go get changed, and I’ll be back. Why don’t you make some popcorn, and we can have a movie night?”
“That sounds amazing. Let’s do it!” you said, making you smile. You both may not have much time together but, you would enjoy what time you got together. 
As Mobius changed from his suit into a pair of sweats and a comfy old t-shirt, you microwaved some popcorn and put it into a large bowl with plenty of extra butter and salt. You grabbed the bowl and sat on the couch, waiting for Mobius.

Request: Hello, hope you're having a splendid day! I've thought of an angsty Mobius x female variant reader imagine set in a AU of Episode 4 where reader is in love with Mobius, but is conflicted with her feelings because he's a variant, and instead of pruning Mobius, Ravonna takes him, Loki, Sylvie and reader to meet the "Time-Keepers". After finding out the "Time-Keepers" are fake, reader is about to tell Mobius how she feels but then Ravonna prunes her and Mobius is devastated?

Mobius had just found out the truth about the TVA. He had stolen Ravonna’s temp pad to see the interview with C-20 so he needed to be quick and get to you and Loki before Ravonna came after him. Meanwhile you and Loki were stuck in an endless loop of abuse from Lady Sif for that one time you too cut her hair while she was asleep, in your defence it was funny at the time. After being attacked for what felt like hours you both were on the ground in pain. You jump when a time portal opens behind you and Mobius walks through it. You look up at the man with sadness in your eyes. You never wanted to hurt Mobius or to betray him; you were not your brother. Mobius looks down at you offering his hand which you gladly accept. The gray haired man pulls you up so you are standing but you stumble landing against his chest. You blush at the contact you had grown attached to Mobius during your time with the TVA but you were terrified to admit that to anyone but yourself. You stepped away letting your hair cover your face. 
“You two were right.” Mobius mutters mostly to you and you feel your heart thump against your rib cage. He knew he was a variant just like you and Loki. “I think the two of you and Sylvie can fix this.” He pauses for a second looking between the two of you, “I just need to get the two of you out of here.” 
“But what about you Mobius? What is gonna happen to you?” You ask stepping closer to him. 
“Doesn’t matter Y/N what you three are going to do is more important than me.” 
“No! No, that is not true Mobius.” 
“We will figure everything out later but we need to hurry now we are running out of time.” You look at him sadly in response. How were you supposed to tell him that you don’t think you could live without him? That the mere thought of him getting hurt or worse dying was almost enough to bring you to your knees. Nonetheless you followed Mobius back through the time portal Loki following closely behind you. As you enter the time theater your heart nearly stops when you see who was waiting for you. The room had four minute men and Ravonna in the middle of them. Mobius was between you and Loki with a look of mild concern on his face before his expression shifted back to calm and collected.
“I think you have something of mine.” Ravonna states, looking at Mobius. You look over at him to see him pulling out a temp pad.
“Yeah I got all the way down there before I even realized I... pick up yours..” He explains handing the temp pad over to the minute man who stepped forward to collect it letting out a breathy laugh. “What’s going on?” The minute man hands Ravonna the temp pad. Ravonna averts her eyes from Mobius, unable to make eye contact with the man. “What’s the problem Ravonna?” Mobius looks down slightly and you can tell he is nervous. You felt the need to comfort him in some way but you didn’t know how. These feelings you had for him are feelings you had never experienced before. You look over at Loki as if he would know what to do. He makes eye contact with you seeing your fear and concern for Mobius but he knew there was very little he could do to comfort you about these worries. “You know where I would go if I could go anywhere?” He pauses for just a second. “Wherever it is that I am really from, and whatever life I had before the TVA came along. Maybe I had a jetski?” You can’t help but giggle at the jetski statement thrown in there. Mobius looks over at you with a little smirk which falls almost as soon as he sees the tears in your eyes. “That’s what I’d like to do, ride around on my jetski.” He says without breaking eye contact with you. 
“Prune him.” You hear Ravonna say as well as the weapon charging up.
“Wait!” You shout breaking eye contact with Mobius turning to Ravonna and she holds her hand up telling the minute men to wait. “Listen... ummm... don’t you think that the Time Keepers may want to talk to him first? From what I can tell Mobius is a damn good agent and it would be a shame for them to never have met him. Seeing as you are about to take Loki, Sylvie and I to be pruned, what is one more person in that line up?” You could tell Ravonna cared for Mobius so she may want to prolong the inevitable. 
“Good point. Take these three to the elevator.” Ravonna commanded. You let out a breath you didn’t even realize you were holding. One of the guards grabs your arm and you don't resist walking forward willingly being led to the elevator. As the Five of you enter without the guards the only thing you are focused on is the gray haired man standing beside you. Stepping out of the elevator you look up at the Time Keepers Loki and Sylvie stand in front of it, then it was you and Mobius and behind you was Ravonna with two guards behind her and two guards in front of Loki and Sylvie. You were scared to tell the truth, but not for the reason you thought you would be. You were scared that you were going to die before telling Mobius how you really feel about him. You looked over at said man to discover he was already looking at you. You couldn’t hear what the Time Keepers were saying or how your friends were responding. It felt like no one else was in the room as you reached for Mobius’s hand to comfort not only him but yourself. You are drawn out of this moment when Sylvie steps forward and Ravonna tries to rewind her only for it not to work. The elevator doors suddenly open and B-15 steps out; she presses a few buttons on a different collar controller and the collars fall from the four of your necks.
“For all time.” B-15 says, “Always” B-15 throws Sylvie her sword and all hell breaks loose. Two of the guards attack B-15 knocking her down but not killing or pruning her before they get a chance to finish the job Ravonna orders them to protect the Time Keepers. You prepare to take on the two guards closest to the elevator when Sylvie walks up beside you. The two of you nod at each other before both lunging at one of the two minute men. You grab hold of the man’s weapon, pulling it away from his body, slightly turning it so the sharp end is pointing at the man before driving it into him, killing him. You look over at Sylvie to see if she needs any help only to find her finishing off her own minute man before she makes eye contact with Ravonna. You knew about Sylvie and Ravonna’s history and knew better than to get in between the two. You then turned to check on Loki and Mobius, finding Mobius pinned down and Loki too preoccupied to help. You grab the dead minute man's weapon and approach the man attacking mobius from behind puning him before he even realizes you are there. You kneel down next to Mobius checking him over for any injuries.
“Are you okay?” You ask panicked that he may be hurt.
“Yeah... yeah I’m fine thanks to you.” He mutters his hands coming to cup your cheeks to make you look in his eyes. “I’m okay. Let’s go help Loki and Sylvie with the Time Keepers, okay?” You subconsciously lean into his hands before answering.
“Okay.” You turn around taking note of the fact both Loki and Sylvie had finished taking down their opponents standing in front of the Time Keepers. You help Mobius to his feet and the two of you make your way over to join them. Look up at the Time Keepers, the one in the middle was speaking to Sylvie.
“...We can talk.”
“Oh yeah.” Sylvie said throwing her sword decapitating the creature in the middle his head falling near your feet. The other things start laughing and you take a step back more than a little freaked out by the fact the decapitated ones body continued to shake as if laughing as well. You look over at Mobius searching for some form of comfort from him but not knowing how to ask for it. You were shaking and Mobius could see it, he walks over to stand in front of you with his back to the “Time Keepers” bodies and puts his hands on your shoulders. 
“Hey it’s okay. Everything's gonna be alright I promise.” His blue eyes bore into your own. You give him a little nod and he draws you into his arms. You tuck your head into the crevice between his neck and shoulder breathing in his scent. You  pull away slightly cupping his face and make it so your foreheads are touching.
“Mobius, I need to tell you something.”
“You can tell me anything Y/N.” his breath fans your face lightly. You take a second to just enjoy how close you two are.
“Mobius I think I lo...” You cut yourself off with a gasp of pain. Mobius looks at you confused before it hits him. Your body was disintegrating, you were being pruned.
“No! No! Please don't.” His pleads were far too late. You were gone and in your place stood Ravonna. Mobius fell to his knees in grief. He looked up at Ravonna.
“Their time was up, Mobius.” Hearing those words caused sobs to overtake his body while Loki and Sylvie took care of Ravonna. He would never have a chance to tell you that he knew that he loved you.

The sweet musky smell almost lulls you to sleep as you skim through the case file of a Loki variant, pictures and text of monochrome glaring under the unforgiving fluorescent office lighting. It’s a harsh reminder of your mishap; a simple overlook during a mission that sent you crashing onto the wasteland of Sakaar. According to the reports as you stood on the pedestal, pleading your innocence to the judge, you were there for an estimated 600 years. Maybe more.
The thought of spending six centuries stranded on a planet sends a wave of pain through your skull—it’s overwhelming information but unsurprising. You do feel like you’ve spent 600 years on that God-forsaken planet.
Now, your once fugitive days have been replaced with the return of being trapped behind a desk and having to recount every event that took place during your time there. Word for word. You despise the TVA’s love of paperwork—it’s a fucking nightmare.
The collar of your shirt feels itchy against the back of your neck, bringing your nails to graze it furiously.
You decide to ignore Miss Minutes' cheery voice despite your agitation, your name rolling off her southern accent. It hints at her chagrin towards your disregarding nature.
"Are you even listenin' to me?"
Her voice lacks all sense of her once constant sunny disposition. You spare the projection a glance, watching her rubber-hose-like arms curve to her where you assume her hips would be. She looks at you with an expectant raised brow. You don’t say anything, keeping eye contact as you snatch an empty event report template, spinning in your swivel chair and away from the glowing tangerine clock.
With pursed lips, you swipe the scatter of mess away, revealing an orange typewriter that sits idly within the expense of your stacks of case files and your collection of vintage Earth cassettes. You hear Miss Minutes' sigh as she strides to the other end of your desk, perching on top of a dusty stack of pending paperwork.
“C’mon, it’s just a test,” the animated clock says. You spare her another look as you feed the report template into the roller forcefully. Bing! The return bar dings unceremoniously as it nearly startles Miss Minutes off the stack.
“That is exactly why I’m refusing to listen to you,” you mutter with annoyance, fingers already flying across the keyboard, punching letters onto the event summary section. The loud clickety-clack of the keys makes it impossible to hear over it. “I don’t get why I need to take a test when I clearly know everything I need to know.”
“Well, you were gone for a very long time and we just wanna test your memory on policies and procedures here at the TVA—”
“Then, why didn’t they come and get me earlier? From the moment I stepped foot on Sakaar, I did everything I could to create a Nexus event or even just a spike and you only came when? When I met Loki.”
Your eyes are now on her startled figure, clicks and clacks coming to an abrupt end. You’re upset over your arrest, the whole hoo-ha at the courtroom, and everything before that. Your behavior is nearly childish but understandable to those who express empathy. You feel like you were being used, prioritizing the capture of the Loki variant that has been causing a ruckus to the timeline. But, it is your job to protect the TVA and the sacred timeline. Although you feel that the TVA should be protecting its employees as well.
“Look, I am not taking that test and that’s my final word. Everyone knows I am capable of handling myself. Plus, I do have tons of paperwork to refresh my memory on policies and procedures if that’s what you’re worried about.”
The cartoon clock nods but with hesitation. However, you do make a fair point. Thus, with a swish and a blip, Miss Minutes disappears into thin air, and you’re left to your own devices once more.
Finally some goddamn peace.
As if the universe doesn’t loathe you enough, someone calls your name, approaching from behind you. A groan escapes from your lips, scowling at the glaring keys of the typewriter.
“What?” you spat. In a swift motion, you swivel in your seat and turn to look over your shoulder.
It’s Mobius, approaching you with sudden caution. You let your shoulder sag with relief, happy to see a familiar friendly face.
“Glad to see you’re back and still feisty.” Mobius hesitantly taps your shoulder, flashing you a small consoling smile. Your expression, however, remains unchanged. “Well, you guys did find me after all.” He spots the glimmer of melancholy in your eyes; they avert back to face the typewriter, hands resting on the keys. Mobius shoves his hand into the pockets of his brown slacks, shifting to lean against the edge of your desk. He knows to tread lightly around you after what happened. You’ve changed with wrinkles of age and crinkles of exhaustion. Sakaar must have not been kind to you.
Yet, you’re here, at your desk; alive and well.
“Hey, what’s got you all wound up?”
It’s a stupid question, really but it’s a question to show he still cares. You have every right to be upset. However, you have every right to be thankful. You would have been pruned. Desk cleared and cassettes discarded—it would be as if you never existed. Renslayer would have never given you any mercy after the act you pulled. Disobeying orders and recklessly throwing yourself into danger with the risk of bringing the whole TVA down. You’re impulsive on missions, but it’s your unrelenting determination that drives you to be one of the greatest analysts Mobius has ever seen.
You’re also a friend. A great one. And he isn’t planning on losing one.
“Please prune me, Mobius.”
Your statement comes off as intentionally sarcastic rather than truly meaningful.
“What? I always thought you adored paperwork.” Mobius hears you groan, burying your face in your hands, elbows propped up on the desk. “My back is already hurting, and I have a migraine just thinking about typing out reports of my time on Sakaar. I think it’s quite clear I adore paperwork.” Your muffled voice tinges sarcasm heavily.
Laughter erupts in his chest. He's glad that your sense of humor never changed. Then, the moment quickly passes and he senses a sudden change in the air. You turn up to look at him.
“What was my Nexus event?”
It’s abrupt, almost arbitrary but leads him to even more confusion. Mobius finds himself frowning. “You don’t know?”
You blink. “That’s the one thing they never told me.”
He shifts in his seat on the edge of your desk, blinking up to the ceiling in thought. “Well, from what I heard...it was because Loki willingly helped you. And it wasn’t for his own advantage.”
It’s your turn to frown. “Wouldn’t that be Loki's fault?”
“Apparently not. It was all you.”
You laugh in response; it comes out like a puff of air. “Well, then. That’s a first. I guess I can finally add manipulation to my list of skills. Plus, pick-pocketing weird cosmic fruits.”
Mobius laughs and taps your shoulder again.
“C’mon, take a walk with me. I’ve got a new case that I need your help with.” You shoot him a quizzical look, eyes catching sight of a thick case file in hand—must be important. “I thought I was supposed to be on desk duty.”
“That doesn’t mean you have to sit behind the desk the whole time,” he shoots back a clever answer with a raised eyebrow, beckoning you to accept his offer. Your laugh comes off as more of a snort. It’s the first one in a while. You stand on your feet, stretching your limbs as you shrug on your coat that was hung over the back of your chair.
“Plus, you’re under my supervision,” he says before turning on his heel, heading for the exit. You watch him raise a hand, his back to you, gesturing for you to follow as he pushes through the wooden door. You hum with amusement, trailing behind him.

The winding hallways feel hollow, mundane walls lacking any color of brightness the TVA tries to bring to the space when in all fairness, orange isn’t much of a fun color now that everywhere you look, there’s a tinge of tangerine somewhere. The posters that adorn the walls are your least favorite parts of the headquarters’ decorative choice. You pass one that says 'Always Watching' in big bold letters, ominously glaring at you. The words are far from comforting, almost inhumane—a jarring reminder of where you are and where you stand in the hierarchy of this bureaucratic organization.
Mobius clears his throat from beside you, pulling you out from your thoughts. In a weirdly discreet manner, he hands you the case file with an outstretched hand. You take it, eyeing him and his odd behavior, there’s an unexpected shift in the air.
Then, you glance down, reading the scrawled words on the file that reads: Variant L1130, Loki Laufeyson.
Your strides come to an abrupt end, whipping your head up to see Mobius’ sheepish smile. Your eyes are wide, and you’re shaking your head in utmost objection.
“No, no, no. No. Absolutely no—”
“C’mon, it’s just—”
“No, Mobius. Nuh-uh. I swear, if I have to deal with another Loki, I will prune myself. I literally will.”
You're shoving the file to him, as he attempts to suck it up to you like the optimistic idiot he is although he very well knows once you’ve made up your mind, you cannot be swayed. You’re stubborn, rebellious—it’s what makes you dangerous. Yet, the TVA are pessimists. It’s Mobius who truly recognizes your accompanying positive characteristics that make dealing with your spontaneous character worthwhile.
Then, coincidently emerging from the door of the locker room is Loki himself, dressed in a dress shirt, tie, and slacks—clothes and color schemes accustomed to the TVA’s dress code. Mobius can practically see the wires in your brain short-circuiting as soon as you lay eyes on the God. Your eye twitches and from that, he knows you’re about to go mayhem. It’s the mayhem that’s going to break out on him like a hurricane devouring everything and anything in its way.
“You hired him?! You hired a Loki?!”
Your voice is loud, startling Mobius and Loki as passersby stare at the commotion you’re causing. You find yourself hunching in response, shoulders sagging as if it’s supposed to help with averting the attention away from you. Still, your expression doesn’t falter, and you’re staring at Mobius like he’s nuts.
Your voice comes off as a whisper, tone still harsher than before. “Mobius, are you insane?—”
“Just, let me explain,” he cuts you off with a raised palm to you. You purse your lips, sparing a glance to Loki who seems amused by the looks of the conversation that’s turning to more of an argument because you’re directly questioning your colleague’s sanity in public. Nevertheless, you decide to hear him out.
You watch Mobius sigh at the sight of your raised brow. “We have a variant. A Loki variant that’s been killing our Minutemen and I believe it’s the same one that threw you to Sakaar. So, to hunt down a Loki, what better way than to source the help of another?”
Silence. You’re giving him that deafening silent treatment once more. You’re thinking, he can see the mechanics in your brain running like a steam engine. He observes the way your eyes flicker between him, the file, and Loki who attempts to hide his confusion of you and the whole situation.
You’re not his superior, not even close, but he’s hopeful for your approval of his plan.
You cross your arms, shifting in your stance. “Which Loki is this?” You gesture to Loki with a tilt of your head. Mobius heaves a sigh, a hand to his hip and the other waving in the air.
“He’s, uh, he’s from 2012—”
And you’re back to causing mayhem.
“2012?! Mobius! That’s the worst one yet!”
“Now, hang on just a minute—” Loki interrupts, voice tinged with bewilderment and resentment but with two sharp looks directed his way, he instantly shuts his mouth.
You and Mobius are now back to your whispered debate.
“Look, as much as I hate to admit it, the TVA’s survival all depends on catching this variant and that means our survival. He has potential for change, so much of it...You just have to trust me on this.”
Mobius makes an excellent point but you can't help but feel the queasiness rising from your stomach. It feels like bile. You begin to feel the weight of the case file in your grasp becoming heavier and heavier. It’s the thought of risky business, and you’re almost upset as to why Mobius thinks it’s such a brilliant idea to pull you into this case after the stunt you pulled.
“Care to explain why I'm involved in this? You do know I’m being scrutinized for every move I make, right?”
Following your question, he glances at Loki who seems to be growing impatient, eyes wandering around the hallway. He leans forward and lowers his voice though his pitch raises, like when he's excited about a breakthrough.
“Because I know you’re capable of getting Loki to trust you. It happened once, there’s a high chance it’ll happen again and that’s good enough for me.” He watches you blink once. Then, twice. He continues, “And you’re being scrutinized by me. So, does it really matter?”
You’re silent again but in deep thought and not out of spite. Your troubled eyes find Loki’s. He’s already staring at you and for a moment, you see an unknown glimmer in his eye, expression nearly vulnerable but in an instant, he seals it away from you and averts his gaze, busying himself with straightening his pecan brown tie. It’s a small sign that he must have heard what Mobius said to you quietly. Nothing more.
Your gaze returns to your colleague and you pull yourself together, heaving a deep sigh. “Fine, but I still think you’re insane.”
Mobius beams down at you in an almost proud manner. “Welcome back, agent.” And with a turn of a heel, he waves for Loki to follow as the three of you head down the hallway. Loki quickly catches up beside you, much to your dismay. “So, what’s your story?” he leans into you with a curious smirk. You keep your face forward, shoulder back, and chin up as you reply with a monotonous tone. “None of your business, daddy long legs.”
In your peripheral vision, you note how the God retracts in response to your reply, brows now furrowed as he glances down to his legs in an almost sheepish and innocent way.
You struggle to fight down a growing smirk.
Mobius looks over his shoulder for a moment and catches sight of you and Loki’s expression after your exchange.
It looks like the two of you would get along just fine.

For All Time Or For Lost Time

who will you choose?
Your gaze flickered between the two women stood either side of you; first to Sylvie, then to Ravonna. Neither one of them dared to return the eye contact, too fearful that the other would take advantage of their distraction and resume fighting. Though their stubbornness was not unexpected, part of you had been hoping that the imploring look could've given you an answer to the upcoming dreaded question. You'd hoped that either one would return the eye contact, and that you could therefore base your entire choice around that simple gesture. Instead, you were left reeling from indecision and guilt.
"Y/N, dear." Sylvie's words were sweet. The tone of her voice was not. "Could you move, please?"
"Don't listen to her." Ravonna didn't bother to hide her resentment behind endearments.
"Oh, and what else would you have her do?" This time Sylvie was speaking past you, directly addressing her opponent. "Stand there in harms way?"
"You won't do anything while she's standing there. That's hardly harms way."
"You sure you want to test that theory?" Sylvie spat, stepping closer." I have a pretty good aim."
"I'd like to see you try."
Although the position you had placed yourself in would've been precarious to most, you knew you'd be perfectly safe. Despite the ongoing rivalry, neither woman would ever do anything to harm you, regardless of how determined they were to win. However, listening to them talk as if you weren't there was quickly becoming bothersome.
"So you'd be willing to let Y/N get hurt rather than diminish your pride." Sylvie moved closer once more. "Yet claim to care about her."
Out of the two, Sylvie would be easier to provoke. So, you turned your full attention to her, placing a hand on either shoulder and halting her gradual approach. The gesture was enough for her to finally lock eyes with you, letting her guard down in the process. She softened slightly.
"It would've been your fault if she was hurt." Ravonna couldn't resist the temptation to insult her, and as intended, the statement aggravated Sylvie. She tried to shake off your calming touch, but you persisted, tightening your grip on her.
"Both of you, shut up." With the momentary lapse in verbal conflict, you seized the opportunity to intervene. All you wanted was a second of silence to consider your next words. There could be no more delays. You needed to face the decision at hand.
The last few days, (or day? you weren't honestly sure) had been simultaneously devastating and liberating. Everything you'd known and sought comfort in was torn away, replaced by new memories which sufficed to divide your very existence. You were conflicted, to say the least. Unsurprisingly, it all began with Sylvie- or the variant as you'd labelled her at the time. You knew little about her since the case was under Mobius' jurisdiction, and because Ravonna seemed adamant to keep you separate from it. Looking back, you now understood why...
During Sylvie's TVA break in, all the guards had immediately rushed to protect the Timekeepers, leaving you rather aimlessly wondering about the corridors in search of Ravonna. The entire building was in lockdown, and no one really knew what was happening beyond the highest ranking personnel. Still, you easily recognised the intruder when she eventually ran into you, clearly distinguishable from the others you'd seen rushing past in a panic. A variant among the homogeneous uniform of TVA workers.
Although, it seemed she recognised you too.
The variant appeared almost relieved, grabbing your arm to pull you along. Caught off guard by her reaction, you allowed yourself to be dragged with her. She was rambling nonsensical apologies and promises, occasionally sparing a glance back at you. The pure adoration and conviction in her eyes meant that each look held an unfathomable weight, and every word she uttered felt of great significance despite your disoriented state.
While leading you through the corridors, she attracted the attention of several guards whom she bested with ease. By the time she'd reached the door to the Timekeeper's chambers, you'd lost all hope, coming to the conclusion that she was deranged and planned on using you as leverage over the TVA. Though thankfully, the other Loki variant appeared before she could continue. You'd seen him working with Mobius and purposefully kept your distance thus far, but at this point he was your last chance of rescue.
With his arrival, all hell broke lose.
Swept up in the chaos, you ended up on Lamentis-1 and subsequently stranded there. Although the odds of survival were slim, you remained vigilant, trusting neither one of them and constantly searching for means to survive the apocalypse. So long as you could find a way off the planet, there was still the possibility that you could find a way back to the TVA, back to Ravonna.
It wasn't until you'd settled on the train that you let the variant, Sylvie, talk.
She explained how the TVA captured her younger self, dragged her before court to face punishment for a crime she hadn't intended to commit. She told you that behind her was a girl of a similar age, who she took pity on and helped during her escape. You. That girl was you. She recalled in astounding detail all of the time you spent together running from the TVA, how she ultimately fell in love with you, and the first and only time she was able to kiss you. She grimaced while admitting that the TVA stole you away, then lightened once more as she mentioned that she'd stolen you back.
When Sylvie had finished recounting your life story- your true life story, she offered to return your memories. You didn't refuse.
As soon as your eyes refocused and mind absorbed all the new, or rather, prior knowledge, Sylvie kissed you. Even with the desperate press of her lips against yours, you felt that you could finally breath again, no longer living a lie in ignorance. Although it didn't take long for you to start wondering whether that ignorance was bliss, since your old life certainly hadn't been bad. In fact it was, by comparison, significantly easier.
Yet situated at the centre of your conflicted stance was Ravonna.
While there were many positives to your TVA life, she stood out as one of the highlights. You had been in a committed relationship for eons now, and even if she played a part in the corrupt system, you still loved her. But it was also clear from your memories that you had loved Sylvie equally, and likely would again.
In conclusion: you were screwed.
Your grip on Sylvie loosened. It'd been foolish of you to assume an immediate answer would present itself in the moment. There was no obvious choice, and thinking about the past did nothing to help the future. You almost wished to share the same gift as the Timekeepers, or whoever was in charge, because then surely you would be able to see which was the better choice, even if it meant temporarily relinquishing your free will.
"Y/N?" Ravonna spoke quietly, gently luring you back into the present.
You glanced up at Sylvie. The previous anger was no where to be seen, instead, concern was etched across her face. The fight between the two of them had all but dissolved in place of shared worry for you and general apprehension.
"Y/N." Ravonna's voice urged you to turn around, and when Sylvie's gaze drifted toward her, yours did too.
She tentatively stepped closer, lowering her TVA baton. The action left her vulnerable to an attack, but Sylvie made no move to resume fighting. You silently thanked her, squeezing her arm before completely releasing her from your grip.
"I-" Her eyes flickered between the two of you, then dropped as she reached into her pocket. "This wasn't the time or place I had intended." She sighed, digging around for something as you watched with bated breath.
Sylvie gasped before you had even processed what sat in the palm of her hand. A small black box containing a ring. Ravonna was proposing.
She cleared her throat, evidently loathing Sylvie's invasive stare. "I know it's a lot to consider." You could practically see her clenching her teeth together, reluctant to display sentimentality in front of anyone beside you. "And whether you accept or not, I'll respect your decision." She shot a resentful yet restrained glare to Sylvie, then extended her spare hand. "Truce?"
You found yourself unable to move, let alone think or feel the tension in the air as the blonde approached.
"Truce." She repeated in a low voice, shaking Ravonna's hand.
The two of them turned back to you, waiting expectantly. What the hell were you supposed to do now?

Part 7 - Lamentis
[Y/N] was the first to open her eyes.
The first thing she saw in her state of confusion was the Time Door closing above her. She could barely process what she had just experienced, disoriented from the sudden series of events. Then, she felt herself on top of someone and on instinct, she jumped from the embrace that had loosened during the impact of the fall.
She surveyed the dark room, cautious of the two that lay on the floor, and tried to examine as much as she could.
They were just at the TVA, in front of the Time-Keepers’ door. When she moved to go against the judge, she was pulled backwards before the weapon could make contact. Then, the three landed here, an unknown location in space and time.
[Y/N] realized that she had been mere centimeters away from being erased from the Timeline. From disappearing from existence. And… And the being who saved her was lying on the floor. The one who had pulled her into his arms and taken the brunt of the fall. The elusive variant that Mobius had taken the risk to work with and found some level of trust in. Loki.
Then, the two snapped their eyes open.
Her heart nearly flew out of her chest and a startled scream was caught in her throat as she desperately tried to hold it back. The woman who had woken up first took one look at the discarded TemPad and immediately struggled to get to it first. Loki, who realized her intentions, quickly latched on to her leg and dragged her back.
“Get off my leg!” The woman demanded as she grabbed Loki and slammed his head onto a small, metallic, decorative table.
[Y/N] winced at the sound as she witnessed this first hand. That’s when a thought occurred to her. These two… They seemed to have forgotten that she was here as well.
Hmmm, she mused to herself as an idea began to form in her mind. Well, it’s not my fault that they forgot about me, right?
What [Y/N] didn’t see, due to her eyes still adjusting to the dim light, was Loki’s discreet glances her way every now and then. He knew his priorities, but he first had to make sure that she was there, safe and alive. But [Y/N], sadly, did not see this and continued to believe that she now had the upper hand. The element of surprise.
“Goodbye, Variant,” the woman scoffed as she finally got her hands on the TemPad.
“You’re outta juice,” Miss Minutes’ voice stated through the device.
Not that it would have done much good even if the TemPad was at full power. [Y/N] wasn’t just standing idly by. She decided to take full advantage of the situation and cover the device with her own powers. It wasn’t very hard, since it wasn’t necessarily to protect or deflect anything. This was just a preventative measure to stop any of the two from getting away. Not before she could make sense of the situation.
The two fought a bit more, just like they had at the TVA. However, the stark difference was that Loki now had free reign on his powers. His magic. [Y/N] had read up on his files the moment Mobius decided to take the variant under his wing. She knew just how powerful this self-proclaimed god was, and knew that outside of the TVA, he was a dangerous force to be reckoned with. When Loki began to use his powers against the woman, [Y/N] knew who would come out the winner.
“Right,” Loki began as he easily unarmed the woman and snatched back the TemPad.
“Just give it back to me,” the woman interrupted, “You don’t even know how to recharge it.”
“Of course I do,” Loki countered as he looked down at the device.
Due to him not facing her, [Y/N] missed the spark of recognition that flashed past Loki’s eyes. He could feel the familiar power that enveloped itself around the TemPad. It felt a bit clumsier than what he had first experienced. A bit unrefined. But it was definitely the same power. It was definitely [Y/N]’s.
“You’re not the only tech savvy Loki,” he continued, hiding the fact that [Y/N] was here as well.
Loki. The name hit her like a ton of bricks. [Y/N]’s eyes widened as she snapped her attention fully on the woman. It was only then that she finally took in everything about this stranger. This intruder that clearly had malicious designs on the TVA. This variant… Loki.
“Don’t ever call me that.”
“Tech savvy?”
“No, a Loki.”
Their conversation no longer registered in [Y/N]’s ears. All she could hear were the screams of her dying comrades. The crackling of fire as it ate away at their oil-covered bodies. And that smell… That horrible stench. The smell of burning flesh. How human they seemed at that moment. How mortal their bodies were as it succumbed to the flames.
As [Y/N]’s mind raced, the female Loki’s headpiece became blindingly obvious. The broken horn. The cloaked figure. The suffocating smell of oil and smoke. And fire… The unbearable heat of fire. Everything finally clicked in place now that [Y/N] was no longer distracted. No longer focused on the Loki that was said to be on their side. Now, all she could see was this female variant. All she could smell was the night air of that day, polluted by the burning fire. And… And all she could feel was rage. Blinding, hot rage.
“Fine. For my next trick, I’ll make you disa-”
“YOU-!” [Y/N] shrieked, interrupting Loki who was readying his daggers, as her powers went haywire.
Words escaped her at that moment. All she wanted was to inflict violence. To cause this variant the same pain and suffering that her teammates had gone through that night. To chase away her own gnawing guilt that threatened to consume her whole and only focus on the anger that lay within. The anger and hatred she felt for this variant. To no longer have only herself to blame.
The female Loki was startled by the sudden attack, but her blade was already in her hands. She was prepared for battle, but there was a downside. [Y/N] had replayed the events of that night over and over again in her head. It was to the point that would drive anyone insane. Every single detail was ingrained into her mind. And all her mistakes were strikingly obvious with each and every replay. This Loki… This variant… She had a weakness.
[Y/N] wasn’t acting on just emotions alone. No, she was thinking a bit more rationally this time around. She did not get close to the variant. She didn’t even try to close the distance. No, [Y/N] played it smart and took several steps back instead. And using this space, she threw out everything she could. Every single ounce of her powers, every single bit that craved to be released from the prison that was her body, she sent out. And like a broken dam, it was a torrential amount of force that hit the female Loki like a tsunami. Like a natural disaster.
Still, the variant was a Loki for a reason.
Her Asgardian-like endurance was the same with any Loki. Although distance attacks placed her at a disadvantage, and she was being pushed back, her durability was no joke. She could take hit after hit continuously. The worst part… This Loki seemed to be adjusting with every strike. For every one hit, she was starting to dodge two more that came her way. She was exponentially improving while [Y/N]... Well, she was still inexperienced.
She could feel her muscles starting to ache from the sudden amount of force released from within herself. It was as if someone had stepped on the accelerator of a car and was eating away at every drop of fuel left within her. Much like the TemPad, if [Y/N] continued with this reckless attack, she would soon run out of energy. Perhaps she wasn’t in her right mind to think about the consequences, but someone else was. And he was getting more and more worried.
However, before any of them could progress further against the other, something broke through the covering overhead and crashed onto the ground below them.
All three of them froze as they stared at the sudden intrusion.
“Is that one of your powers?” Loki asked the female variant.
“Where did you-?” she began, but [Y/N] couldn’t care less about that.
She continued to bombard her with her powers. More and more of her energy drained from her, but she didn’t care. Sweat droplets began to form on her forehead, showing just how much this excessive use of her abilities were putting on her, but she ignored everything and just kept throwing wave after wave of her powers.
[Y/N] had yet to use her abilities to its limit. She never had the chance to. In all her years in the TVA, no one had allowed her the opportunity nor the permission. She didn’t know what would happen if she completely used up all her energy. She didn’t know how severe the consequences would be. But she knew that if she didn’t get all this rage, all this anger, out of her system now, it would haunt her for the rest of her life.
“...! St…! Stop, [Y/N]!”
A voice broke through her blind anger. She heard a word… A name, perhaps, that she found very familiar. It was so familiar, that it almost seemed natural. As if she had heard it many times before. Then, someone stepped in between her and the variant.
Loki. Loki had gotten in between the two of them.
He had witnessed her in her moment of fury. It was something he was vastly familiar with, during all his years with Thor in their youth as well as the not-so-distant past when he confronted his father about his birth. Anger was an emotion he could never quite let go. But for some reason… He found it unfamiliar. He found this level of rage, this level of fury, to be unfamiliar on [Y/N]. From all of his own as well as his “future” self’s memories, he had never once seen her so enraged. And honestly, it began to scare him.
Her exhaustion was clearly written on her face, her pallor getting paler and paler. He could feel the raw energy leaking from her with every swing that she sent out towards his female variant. All of this worried him, but what really began to scare him was her eyes. Her eyes, that once looked so calm and serene… The irises that seemed to examine, looking for ways to protect and defend, now shook with so much anger that all they searched for was for ways to hurt and attack… They were so different from the [Y/N] he had seen.
These familiar, yet unfamiliar eyes… They were scary because… Because they were the same as his. They were the same as how he once was when he had been so filled with rage towards his father, mother, brother… His family… So blinded that he had torn apart their relationship and even went after their lives.
Unable to hold back any longer, he desperately called out to [Y/N] and stood in her path. He knew how irrational one could be in that state of mind, but he took the slim chance that maybe… Just maybe… She would recognize him and take a moment to breathe. Take a moment to calm herself. Take a moment to find peace.
“[Y/N],” he began as he inched closer to her and cupped her face in his hands, gently tilting them up so that she could only look into his eyes. “[Y/N], breathe. Stop. Think. We can’t do this right now.”
Her eyes still shook, but they began to get less and less erratic as they stared back at him. [Y/N] couldn’t seem to comprehend his words. She was trying so hard to focus, but her mind was a mess and her body was heating up. Her breath caught in her throat and she felt parched. She could feel her sweat rolling down her face and dripping to the ground, but still it was hard for her.
Was this the cost of using her powers? And what was he saying? [Y/N]? Who was [Y/N]?
But [Y/N] didn’t have more time to think.
In that brief moment, another projectile punctured through the tent and exploded as it made impact onto the ground. Everyone flinched at the sudden intrusion, and [Y/N] was no exception. That’s when she finally got a good look on what had interrupted them before.
The small crater the object had created… It startled her so much that her mind began to fly into overdrive. She knew exactly what that was. And if her thoughts were right, then she could only think of one place. One horrible, dreaded place. One that many of the Minutemen were warned to never go.
“No,” [Y/N] breathed out as she pulled herself away from Loki, too distracted to think of his words any longer, and looked around to find the exit. “Please tell me this isn’t…”
Her rage and confusion that was already dissipating, and the listlessness of her mind immediately disappeared as the situation began to take a turn for the worse. Though hatred still ate away at her, she ignored it as the TVA agent within her finally began to take the reins. If this was indeed where she thought they were, they needed to run.
[Y/N] was the first to exit the large tent as she looked up at the sky.
“Shit,” she cursed, taking in the purple hue of their surroundings, as the two variants followed after her.
This was the first time [Y/N] had ever wanted to escape the outside world and back to the TVA. She found the organization to be a prison, but it was vastly better than landing here of all places. This… This was far worse than a prison. In fact, it wasn’t too far from what people would view as Hell.
“You idiot!” the female Loki shouted, “This is Lamentis 1.”
“I don’t know what that means!” Loki yelled back.
“The worst apocalypse you could have sent us to,” [Y/N] sighed as her face scrunched up into a frown.
“The moon that planet is about to crash into and destroy,” the female Loki elaborated as another flying piece of the looming planet overhead crashed dangerously close to them. “Of all of the apocalypses saved on that TemPad, this is the worst!”
The three took off charging in one direction, unable to think of exactly where they should be going, as they dodged the small, yet powerful meteors left and right.
“No one makes it off here!” Both [Y/N] and the variant stated as they ran, their earlier fight discarded.
Fighting was one thing, but survival trumped all others. To fight now was to die, so the three had a wordless agreement. Run now, fight later.
“Incoming!” [Y/N] hollered at the same time the variant shouted, “Watch out!”
The female Loki pulled him out of the way as [Y/N] sent her own power and collided instantly with the flying rock that was headed their way. The impact caused an explosion mid-air, the rock turning to dust and debris flying outward, as the force sent [Y/N] stumbling backwards. Loki, who was not too far away, grabbed hold of her arm and helped to keep her steady as the three resumed to run.
“I’m sorry, madam,” Loki said as he looked back at the other variant. “Didn’t have time to scan the brochure.”
The three slid under a large vehicle, the wheels nearly as tall as their bodies, and ducked for cover as another meteor hit too close for comfort.
“By the way, I thought you wanted me dead.”
“I don’t know where you hid that TemPad, but if you blow up, it blows up, and then I end up blown up.”
“Shut up and run!” [Y/N] commanded as she stood up and pointed towards a metallic unit that was different from the tents.
It couldn’t secure them from the inevitable doom that would befall Lamentis, but it would provide them with enough protection, at least until they could catch their breath.
“So we’re a team now?” Loki asked as he ran alongside [Y/N].
She didn’t know when it had happened, but they were now running hand-in-hand. It was too chaotic to focus on, but she could feel his firm grip on her tighten as they continued to sprint towards safety. There were moments when she thought to let go, to loosen her grip and slip from his grasp, but a part of her didn’t want to. And for some reason, as if he knew what she was thinking, every time the thought of letting go occurred to her it was as if his grip tightened. As if to tell her that he wouldn’t let go, no matter what.
“Oh, God, no!” the female Loki exclaimed at the prospect of them being a team.
“Dodge!” [Y/N] yelled at the same time Loki shouted, “Get down!” right as a meteor shot towards them.
Although [Y/N] was ready to fight to the death with this variant, she wasn’t sure if she could really bring herself to kill someone when the time really came to it. And in the heat of the moment, when the meteor could have taken care of the female variant without [Y/N] having to get her hands dirty, she had warned her instead.
Biting her lip, refusing to take the time to hesitate in this situation, [Y/N] readied her powers once more. Just as she was about to send them out and help, Loki acted faster and grabbed hold of the female variant and pulled her back with his free hand.
“Didn’t need your help!” She scowled in response.
“You’re so weird!” Loki replied.
[Y/N] just clicked her tongue, frowning at the variant’s response.
The situation began to really annoy her. She didn’t like how she had to cooperate with this variant. She didn’t like how she couldn’t apprehend this woman right here and now. She didn’t even know why she was trying to understand this monster. And Loki… The variant that was supposed to be on her side… She couldn’t trust him completely, but for some reason she kept finding herself with her guard down around him. But why? Why was she acting differently? This was not how she was trained. And… And why did it seem like he kept sticking close to her? How he kept staying by her side? And why? Why did it feel so natural?
[Y/N], breathe. Stop. Think. We can’t do this right now.
When she thought back to his strange words, she could barely take it anymore. Those words… It made her annoyance peak. She flung her hand away from Loki and swung her powers outwards. They were close enough to see the door, and her abilities aggressively swung the metal frame wide open. Without even looking back, she entered into the contraption and left the two behind.
She was in such a hurry to escape this confusing situation that she didn’t notice Loki’s pace slow down. She didn’t see his hurt expression before it went away in the blink of an eye. And she didn’t see his eyes, the hint of green that lingered in the blue irises, that tracked her as she escaped inside.
[Y/N] would never know, but Loki at this time had a thought. A painful, heart wrenching thought that nearly shook him to the bone.
Loki had a feeling that she… That this [Y/N] did not know who he was. Not in the way that he had hoped. He knew this might happen if he ever were to reunite with her. That maybe, just maybe… She would not have a single recognition of him as he did her. Like when he first met her all that time ago in New York, maybe she was in his shoes this time. Maybe she would think that this Loki was strange and maybe be curious about him, but not a speck of genuine interest would appear in her heart. That she would dismiss him like any other person that she was to cross paths with.
The thought of that… The thought of her rejecting him, just like she had done when she shook off his hand… It cut him deeper than any dagger ever could.
He stepped into the metal unit with a heavy heart, along with the female variant, and inside [Y/N] was waiting. The three of them were all breathless, but still [Y/N] stood there with her arms crossed with a deep frown. She glanced at the female variant, her eyebrow twitching from her bottled anger, but she let out a deep breath and focused her attention back on Loki. Her next words… Well, they weren’t what he expected.
“Now… Who the hell is [Y/N]?”
