you know, I can really appreciate a fandom space, a community where you make a lot of friends and your entire tumblr dash is filled with theories, opinions, and content being exchanged. I can appreciate making a ton of content and loving the exchange of art and conversation. it’s good fun sometimes.
but I’ve recently discovered how much I LOVE enjoying fandom in solitude. just consuming fic after fic, not talking to anyone about it. not a single “hot take” to be had or read, no drama, no opinions, just the pure dopamine rush of enjoying my current fixation in my cute, quiet little bubble, consuming content at a rapid pace with absolutely no pressure to create it. beautiful. 10/10 experience

Irondad fic ideas #148
You know those homework assignments where you have to interview someone in your family and then write an essay about their responses? Fic where Peter's class is told to interview their dad / a father figure in their life.
Peter decides to interview Tony. But, he doesn't want his class to accuse him of lying, and he definitely doesn't want Tony to know what the assignment is about.
So for Tony, Peter makes it seem like the assignment is just to interview anyone. Then, he carefully chooses questions to ask that are domestic and personal enough to avoid any mention of superheroes, celebrities, or so on. The few details that do slip through he just leaves out of his final essay.
For the class problem, Peter solves it by referring to Tony in the essay exclusively as "dad"
Unfortunately for Peter, the teacher then announces a part 2 to the assignment. Right after collecting the essays, the teacher says they will now need to bring the people they interviewed to school for their presentations
Peter has pretty much decided to not even mention it to Tony and just say his dad is busy. But then Flash has to open his big mouth.
He accuses Peter of just making his assignment up, loudly reminding the class that he's an orphan. Peter clarifies that this father figure thing is a new development, but now the teacher looks suspicious
Peter is going to have to ask Tony to come to his school. And he's going to have to explain why the class will be full of kids and their fathers

“Well, well… what do we have here?”
“TRASH!” Peter snatches it before Tony has the chance. “Just- trash! Nothing important!”
Except he doesn’t throw it out and holds it like a precious diamond. Tony just raises an eyebrow at him.
“You have nothing to be ashamed of,” his mentor reassures. “Your aunt already showed me your baby pictures.”
Peter groans at the memory. “Why are you guys like this!”
Tony smirks.
“I don’t even know why May invited you to help me clean my room. I can do it on my own!” Peter vents.
“We just thought you might need a hand, you have a pretty busy routine.”
“Yeah, but–”
“And you haven’t been sleeping well.”
Right, the Baby Monitor.
“... look, I’ll try to clean it up on my own. If I need you, I’ll let you know.”
Tony shrugs. “Alright.”
He sits on Peter’s bed.
“... Mr. Stark,” the teen inhales.
“What?”
“I can’t clean my room with you watching me! Just go watch some TV or something!”
“Okay, okay, jeez.”
Tony leaves and doesn’t close the door. Peter sighs and does it.
He’s really lucky that Tony didn’t get to find Peter’s old Iron Man stuff.

We've all heard abour Peter jokingly/sarcastically calling Tony out on his dad like behavior by something along the lines of:
"Sure, Dad."
But hear me out; Bio-Peter calling Tony per "Mr. Stark" whenever the man does something overly business-y.

I need more fics where ben works for hammer industries and as a result peter ends up working on projects with him.
he’s talented, and of course people notice, so it wasn’t a shock when peter caught the attention of justin hammer himself OR when he becomes his personal intern.
post bite and ben dying, he still works as hammers intern and as a result is forced to attend what feels like thousands of events; he’s fitted for a new suit everytime and hammer makes sure people know how charitable he’s being, dragging peter across the floor to brag.
christmas rolls around and it’s the same pattern, stark industries hosts a holiday event— justin hammer is invited— peter is dragged down for a fitting— justin drags peter around bragging—peter is left alone in a corner alone for the rest of the night.
but this time, tony stark wasn’t able to avoid pepper’s wrath and was practically forced into attending the event.
tony watching as a very obviously bored teenager work on …something? while munching on ginger bread cookies. walking up to him because who was he if not nosey?
que peter parker loosing his actual mind because tony stark randomly complimented his work after appearing out of thin air.
and i don’t know man just holiday vibes and shenanigans, tony wanting to piss off justin by stealing his intern turning into accidental adoption, gingerbread cookies ☹️ DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE POTENTIAL FLASH AND PETER FRIENDSHIP!

*Peter laying on the floor while Harley attempts to throw popcorn into his mouth.*
Tony: That's dangerous. What if it hits the back of his throat and he chokes?
Harley: It's a point.

AU where
Spider-man looks at Iron Man, realizing what's about to happen. Thoughts rush to Peter's head. What's he trying to do? If he does it, itll kill him! The world needs Iron Man, this can't be happening-
Peter lunges forward, right as Thanos prepares to kick Tony away, he slips the gauntlet off and puts it on. He makes eye contact with Tony, who's eyes are wide. "Peter, NO." Tony screams helplessly, his eyes welling up. Peter smiles weakly, shaking.
"The world needs you, Mister Stark." He snaps his fingers, the sound quiet but deafening. Everything stops as Thanos and his allies disintegrate. Tony watches in horror as Spider-man stumbles towards him and falls to his knees. Tony shakily follows suit, his hands trembling as he holds Peter's arms.
"Peter... hey, kid. Kid. Please, please, not again." Tony's voice trembles.
Dr. Strange walks forward, placing a gentle hand on Tony's back. "Tony..." Stephen's voice is soft, an attempt at comforting him. "It was the only w-"
Tony slaps Doctor Strange's hand away. His eyes were bloodshot, never leaving Peter's body. "Peter. Peter, not again, you cant die on me twice, kid. Please, what about your friends, they're so excited to see you, please, kid, Peter-"
Tony goes silent as he sees Peter make eye contact, his lips parting slightly. Peter's arm weakly wrapped around Tony. "Mister Stark." Peter whispered, his voice weak. "I- I'm sorry."
Tony chokes a sob as he pulls Peter's lifeless body close, hugging him as he goes limp in his arms. "Peter. Peter, you're just a kid, you idiot. Your friends- you can't-" Tony rambles, hugging the young boy tightly. He feels hopeless, sitting there in the dust. "Peter, we won." Iron Man whispers, repeating it over and over again into Peter's shoulder. "We won. We won. We won, kid, we won."

Peter: *drinks all of the coffee meant for Tony, surprise hugs him and at the same time gives him a heart attack, and blows 2 of Tony's labs all in the span of one (1) afternoon*
Harley: How do you cry when your sandwich falls apart, but then be able to do this with no fear?
Tony, fighting off a forming headache: I've already fallen apart so it’s too late for him to cry about it.

one of the worst parts about being an irondad fan in 2023 is seeing moments that are so PERFECT to be included in a fic but you can't because you know some dumbass is going to twist it to make it so that they're codependent upon each other rather than people with separate, independent lives like look at this bastard
Tumblr media
THIS KIND OF TEASING AND BANTER IS SO GOOD but God forbid anyone in the irondad fandom isn't a fucking racist, sexist piece of shit that rewrites their entire dynamic to be cuddly or biodad or engages in gross erasure of May, MJ, Pepper, Morgan, Ned or Rhodey (but never Happy or fucking Harley like damn I wonder why!!!)
some of you don't know the meaning of found family and it shows.

Braving This Free Fall
MJ might expect disappointment and might sometimes fear the future for all the unknowns that it holds, because as much as she likes mysteries she likes answers more, she thought that it might not be so scary so long as she had a safe place to fall back to.
She had that all, but in the matter of minutes through a single broadcast, the ground beneath her was gone.
“She’s working with Spider-Man. I repeat. She is working with him. Peter Parker and Michelle Stark.”

Alternatively, MJ learns what it means to be a hero.

Irondad fic ideas #107
You've seen the Twitter fics where folks go out of their way to make whole Twitter profiles and properly-formatted tweet threads
You've seen the social media fics with Instagram posts so legit-looking they even have user comments and screenshots of IG stories
You've seen Youtube fics and fake Buzzfeed articles and everything in between
Now get ready for, in this same style, a Tumblr fic*
Featuring, for example:
Peter has a Tony Stark fan account that has been active for like a decade
Flash has a Spider-Man fan account that regularly harasses Peter's account. He leaves comments, asks, makes his own posts about Peter being a fake intern, and has a whole tag on his blog dedicated to #peter's lies (or maybe #penis lol I feel like Flash could get some uh. not intended results for that one)
Spider-Man has an account. Tumblr users discover which account is his WAY faster than he wanted them to
Maybe he saves someone and quips about his most recent hyperfixation, and the person he saved happens to be on Tumblr and happens to notice at 2am an account called wallcrawler posting about that exact same piece of media
Maybe there's a villain with truly unholy looking shoelaces and Peter without even thinking about it quips, "Nice shoelaces, did you steal them from the president?" only to then realize what he's done and someone's caught it on camera and we see Spider-Man rapidly go through the five stages of grief
Stark Industries has a tumblr! They also have a tag dedicated to #kid sightings, #cryptid of si
If they also have tags #tony stark has a heart, #irondad moments, and #stark jr., well.. their boss doesn't need to know
The Twitter apocalypse happens, and a bunch of Avengers migrate over to Tumblr
(Which Avengers do you think seem, perhaps, a little too familiar with this website already...)
(Tumblr sleuths clock Clint's secret blog within the hour. Nat, who has become acclimated to the website very quickly, reblogs Clint's post where he's whining about it with just, "You're supposed to be a spy." It goes viral immediately.)
Y'all know the wild ads we get on this hellsite? Pikachu man? Shaving? What kinds of ads do you think the MCU might have
*to be clear, we're talking about a fic with screenshots of carefully crafted fake tumblr posts and conversations! not a tumblr account roleplaying as various characters and interacting that way!

“You know what I thought?” Steve asked, the pause that followed not intended for Tony to answer, but rather for him to find the strength to speak. “As I was going down in that plane in the Arctic? You know what I thought?”
Tony leaned further back in the sofa, the cushion of the couch taking a bit of the ache from his shoulders.
“Well,” he drawled out, quirking a small grin along the way. “If Peggy’s stories hold up, I believe it was something about a dance.”
To Tony’s surprise, Steve didn’t have a warm response to the comment. He expected a grin or a chuckle, or a bit of both. Instead, a frown pulled at Steve’s lips and his head dropped lower than before, the dimmed lights from above barely catching onto his face.
“I hope I’m not the last one,” he whispered, only heard in a room that was quiet to begin with.
Tony creased his brow, but said nothing.
It took a passing minute for Steve to regain his voice. He had to clear his throat to get there.
“That’s what I thought,” he admitted, lifting his head up with what seemed to take more effort than it should’ve. “It was the last thing I remember thinking...I hope I’m not the last good man.”
Steve turned to look at Tony, but his eyes failed to stay there. Tony couldn’t fault him; it would be hypocritical if he did. The wall ahead of Steve didn’t hold anything worthy of their focus, but Tony knew that long before Steve let his eyes wander there.
“I’d seen too many good men die...” Steve’s voice fell hoarse towards the end, taking on a rumbling akin to gravel and stone. “My unit...Bucky.”
The timing in which Steve swallowed, so hard that his throat shook, didn’t go unnoticed. Tony reciprocated the kindness from earlier and didn’t bring it to attention. And this time, he didn’t forgo his instincts.
Steve took in a deep breath in before continuing. “I’d seen more evil men come around as all the good men left — they were taken.”
His hands were still clasped loosely in his lap, and Steve looked down towards them, unfolding the hold so that he could brush the knuckle of his finger against his eyebrow.
“I didn’t want to be the last good man…” Steve’s voice softened, “taking a nosedive off the coast of Greenland.”
Steve could’ve spoken as if the events happened just yesterday, and he would’ve sounded no different.
It was just another harsh reminder for Tony; the man he saw in those black and white photos had quite literally only taken those photos only a handful of years ago — at least for him, at least through his eyes.
The tragedy he spoke about lined the walls in museums, it was all Tony heard about growing up, it filled the pages of the history books kids today were learning about in school.
But for Steve, it only recently happened.
And through all the years they’d known each other, worked alongside each other — nearly died on the same battlefield, whether it be Sokovia or Wakanda — Tony never saw it affect him.
Not with his chin up and his chin high.
“When I woke up…” Steve trailed off, his jaw moving to the side in the pause that followed. “I was worried that fear had come to fruition.”
It seemed like an eternity before Steve looked back to Tony — really looked at him, his eyes focusing in and his attention straight-ahead.
And when he did, Tony could see the age return to his face; making it seem as if he never slept those seventy years in ice.
“Then I met Peter,” Steve said, a small, minuscule twitch of a smile following suit. Lessening the decades etched so deeply into his skin; as if the stress lines across his face were frozen by the ice of the Arctic; and melted with the warmth of his truth.
Tony never realized that same smile radiated towards him. The pull on his lips felt more natural these days; he barely ever noticed when a grin cracked the crows-feet around his eyes.
“Taking the herb…making that decision...” Steve began to say, a soft nod turning into a shake of his head. “It wasn’t as hard as you think.”
Tony kept his chuckle in his throat, though a few breathy huffs still managed to escape.
It was hard to believe that there was a time he’d been determined to keep Peter away from the team. Never fully confident in his recruit of someone so young, never fully confident in the teams would-be-response to his growing mentorship with the kid — purposeful or not.
They were so far removed from the events that started off this year, it felt foreign to even think back on what all happened.
Especially as straight ahead of him, Steve smiled; mentioning Peter with a tone only ever heard when names like Peggy and Bucky were spoken about.
“He’s a good kid,” Tony finally said, hoping that was enough to sum up the abundance of thoughts that came with Steve’s admission.
For anyone else, it may not have been. But for Steve, he was able to communicate with Tony in ways that didn’t always require words.
“And he’s lucky to have you,” Steve responded, a sincere firmness weaving through his tone.
Tony scoffed, even with the ‘Stern, robust, Captain America’ tone that flooded through the lounge.
“Peter’s screwed with me,” he tried to say. Before he even knew it, his hand was moving when he spoke. “I’m a hot, piping mess. Can’t go three days without causing trouble, my blood pressure’s so high it’s given my doctor high-blood pressure, always going one extreme or the other — Rhodey was right on the nose with that one. I’m basically —”
“His dad,” Steve cut in, almost too soft to call an interruption. The smile that followed said everything and then some. “He’s lucky to have you.”
Tony looked away, but not because he wanted to. It was by instinct, hammered into the very bone marrow of his body. He wasn’t sure if the dimmed lights showed the blush that spread across his face; he figured if he saw the tint on Rogers skin earlier, it undoubtedly could be seen on his. Looking away was more to save his dignity.
