tell me your failed/embarrassing flirting stories to make me feel better, i’ll go first: today i said “get out of my way” forgot to say “i’m kidding” then immediately said “bye”
#it is awful having feelings for someone you know and have an established friendship with#but crushing on someone i barely know is knew to me and i legit feel like an idiot every time i do something stupid like this#i can’t just. talk to the guy#if i say hey and he says sup i say ‘sup indeed’ like what the fuck is that#i can barely even say hello to him#don’t get me wrong i’ve DONE it but most days i’m like#ah fuck there he is#okay you can do it just say hi#just say what’s up#and then he’s already gone#also. like. the setting we’re in is soooo not good for talking or flirting realt because um. it’s work he’s my coworker.. so um. do i fuckin#ask him for his number?? or to hang out??? but like. he’s kind of a stranger to me what do i want to hang out for 🧍#but like. i dont want to do that until i have at least one successful interaction#or like. an actual conversation.#which is gonna be really hard to manage because he doesn’t talk much at all to anyone and i really only talk if someone talks to me first or#i’ll say something absolutely idiotic and ridiculous (and honestly i do that no matter what)#anyway so um. i guess i’m just gonna keep making a fool of myself until i get it right and hopefully i don’t screw it up 🥴#i lost all my confidence in the last year and i cant do anything chill or smooth anymore (i was never that good in the first place but at#least i could PRETEND i knew what i was doing. like i could sell it. the whole weird and lost bit.)#anyway. i felt better for like 5 minutes when some guy at the gas station flirt failed with me on the way home. but that’s partly my fault#too oops. in his defense he probably could not see that i had headphones on bc upon mirror inspection they were well blended with my hair#but i was waiting to cross the street and this guy tried to like nod and smile and i did not know it was to me until i got to the other side#where the gas station was and and like. tried again and i awkward half smiled and saw his face get all mushy and confused like mine FELT 20#mins before when i’d flopped so hard trying to flirt and by the time i’d processed WAIT i think he was FLIRTING WITH ME i was already gone 🤡#but at least it ended better than the poor 14yo who very confidently asked for my number#who. i shit you not. SCREECHED for a solid 44.5 seconds and bolted the other direction when i said sorry im 21#his friends were standing there like wtf too and one was like i am so sorry about him 🤦#cheers to being fools universe

Ranboo x Reader (Female)
Warnings: None, unless talking about the future counts
Genre: FLUFF, Humor, RPF (Real Person Fic)
Summary: Following the arrival of the dreadful invitation to his cousin’s wedding Ranboo turns to the only cover-up he can think of to keep his still-single status hidden from his family.
Requested by Anon. Hi darling! Thank you so much for your wonderful request! I’m so glad you sent your idea to me and I’m so glad you were my first official Ranboo request. I’m really sorry it’s taken me so long to write it but I still hope you’ll come across it and read it! Love, Vy ❤
“Heyyy, so Y/N, I have a favor to ask you...um yeah, call me back, it’s awkward sending it via voicemail. Bye“
Huh - that’s the first thought that goes through my head when I listen to the voicemail left after a missed call from my best friend Ranboo. The favors he usually asks for consist of requesting assistance for his videos in which I also appear with a mask and sunglasses to keep the brand running. I genuinely have nothing against my face being shown but when I think about it, I’m honestly a bit glad people can’t identify me.
Anyways, back to the favors, Ranboo is no stranger to asking me for them but they’ve never been considered too awkward for a voicemail which is why I’m no slightly concerned. I’ve been swamped with work for school and studies for the graduation finals for the past two weeks and it seems like I’ll never get on top of it and I know Ranboo’s been in a similar situation too, so maybe he needs help with that? He’s not used to asking help for school stuff, he sometimes even has a hard time accepting it when I openly offer it to him.
I eventually sigh, decide that playing this guessing game will not get me anywhere and settle on giving him a call as I make my way home from the gym with my legs barely putting up with the task of carrying me around.
He picks up on the second ring.
“Hey! Wh-...“
“Would you pretend to be my girlfriend for my cousin’s wedding next weekend?!“
My legs take that opportunity to stop moving in the middle of the sidewalk which is luckily void of any people at the moment. It’s not my fault my body’s first reaction was to freeze up at the question that came flying at me like an out-of-control jet, almost as though he’s been dying to say it and get it over with.
“Um...run that by me again please, I think I misunderstood.“ I say, blinking blankly as though awoken from a fever dream. No, actually as though I’m IN a fever dream right now.
“Ok, now that the cat’s out of the bag, wanna grab some coffee and talk about it face-to-face. I need to see your facial expressions to gauge what response to expect.“ He says, the previous nervousness gone and his voice calm as regularly once again.
I’m this close to face-palming but I squeeze my eyes tightly shut and bring myself to utter a reply, “Our usual spot. Be there in ten minutes.”
                                                             *  *  *
“No freaking way.“ I shake my head, folding my arms over my chest as I lean back in my seat in the booth we picked when we arrived. Good thing I got an iced coffee cause even a hot one would’ve gone cold by now considering I haven’t yet taken the time to have even a sip of it. I’ve been too busy listening to the long and short of the explanation and begging speech Ranboo probably made last night to try and convince me to agree to this nonsense. “Dude, we’ve been friends since middle school-...“
“Exactly! Who else was I gonna ask?“ He cuts me off, pleading gaze meeting my unimpressed one.
I huff before continuing my previous statement, “We’ve been friends since middle school so you know my opinion on weddings.” I put extra emphasis on the word ‘opinion’, giving him the clear hint at the distaste I’ve expressed on the topic multiple times before.
“And you know we’re on the same page there but there’s no way I can avoid going unless someone kidnaps me.“ He too now gets in the same stance as me, his coffee forgotten too.
I can’t help but snort out a little laugh, “I’d be more than happy to kidnap you considering the other option is far less appealing to me.“
He, of course, rolls his eyes at me as though he didn’t offer to do the same thing so I could avoid an exam but anyways. “So you’re gonna choose to fake a kidnapping that has the potential of landing you in jail over coming to eat some great food and maybe even have some fun at a wedding with your best friend? I’m hurt.“ He says, frowning to cover up the smile that’s fighting its way onto his face.
Now it’s my turn to roll my eyes, “I’d be kidnapping you, dummy...” I cut myself off to let out a long sigh and calm down before I go off at him. His smirk isn’t helping me much with the task either. I’ve known Ranboo long enough to know he’ll eventually convince me and he’s known me long enough to know how to do that exactly. With that in mind, there’s really no point in getting so worked up and wasting my energy. And so, despite my own rationality, I cave. “Fine, but I’m not staying the whole wedding.“
His eyes immediately light up and almost makes me feel the compromise was worth it. Almost. I mean, when you’ve been best friends with someone for so long, seeing them happy is worth more to you than your own comfort sometimes.
And he knows it too. Which is exactly why he outstretches his hand for me to shake and says: “Just one dance and you’re free to go. Deal?”
I take his hand without hesitations. That’s a better offer than I could’ve ever imagined. “Damn straight it’s a deal.“
                                                            *  *  *
“How long until you kick the heels off?“ Ranboo asks, bringing me a non-alcoholic cocktail and sitting down next to me.
I take a sip and giggle, “You kidding? I already kicked them off and replaced them with flats. I need mobility if we dance. They also lower the risk of me severing off a toe of yours if I step on you on accident.”
He laughs, clinking his glass against mine before he gets a bit more serious, “By the way, thanks for handling my family’s attack so well. I know it might’ve been a bit much but you handled it like a pro. Still, I’m sorry on their behalf.”
I shake my head and wave my hand dismissively, “Don’t mention it. I’d probably react the same way if my brother or cousin brought a date to an important family event like this.” I instinctively turn to look in the direction of where the majority of his family has gathered around, chatting with guests, smiling brightly. It’s hard not to immediately take a liking towards these people. They’ve been a second family to me ever since Ranboo and I started hanging out so I completely understand why they were so shocked to see me in the role of his ‘girlfriend’.
“I’ll tell my parents the truth later, our extended family is the ones I wanted to fool to be perfectly honest.“ He looks around as do I and we catch more than a few pairs of eyes fixated on us that turn away when they realize they’ve been spotted, “Mission accomplished by the looks of it.“
I chuckle. I’ve never felt so comfortable at a wedding before. I don’t feel stressed nor anxious despite knowing that there’s quite the number of eyes on me and there are whispers going around about my ‘relationship’ with Ranboo. It’s oddly calming and relaxing to be surrounded by some familiar and some unfamiliar faces. This cocktail is pretty great too.
Speaking of which, if it had any alcohol in it I’d blame it for the decision I’m about to make but this one’s entirely on me: I tap Ranboo with one hand while taking out my phone with the other. “If we’re already the talk of the wedding, let’s give them something to talk about.“ I say as I put up my phone, pretending to be taking a selfie leaning in to give him a kiss on the cheek.
When I pull away I can clearly see that he’s still processing what just happened. I can’t help but burst out in a fit of laughter as I reach out to wipe the lipstick stain I left on his cheek. He looks like a lost, clueless puppy with the question: ‘what on Earth just happened???’ replaying in his head and it’s so freaking cute!
Wait....what was that? Since when do I use the adjective cute to describe Ranboo? Didn’t I think he looks handsome in a suit earlier too? The hell is with me today?
Then it hits me - the feeling isn’t foreign. Like, I know I’ve felt it before but I never analyzed it or even bothered to acknowledge it. But now that I do, I’m afraid of what it might be.
“There!“ I say, desperately trying to push the thoughts away along with this little firework show in my stomach, “Now you have pinker cheeks. Well, cheek, singular.“
As if snapping out of his state of confusion, he returns to Earth with a smirk, “Kiss the other to even it?”
Alright, his blush might not be even but mine now is and it’s ten times as intense and very much apparent but I don’t let the feeling shine through anything else as I proceed to actually kiss his other cheek too, wiping the lipstick stain.
“Thanks. You’re the best.” And just like that, as though it’s no big deal, he kisses my forehead.
See, that’s the thing, it shouldn’t be a big deal! It’s never been! This is far from the first time I’ve kissed him on the cheek or the first time he’s given me a forehead kiss. These are regular occurrences after years of this lovely friendship we have. Why do they feel so different now?
Then, much to my relief, the music starts and the lights turn off leaving only one spotlight for the groom and bride to have their first dance. They look absolutely astonishing and I can certainly say I’ve never before stopped to think that about any newly weds of the weddings I’ve preciously been to. I don’t know if it has something to do with the company I have for this particular wedding or it’s maybe the fact that my mindset’s changed over the years without me realizing.
Then I automatically look at Ranboo who just so happens to be looking at me too and all I can say is: my mindset hasn’t changed.
A loud applause takes over when the couple finish their dance, officially opening the dancefloor for any other pairs who’d like to occupy it and I’m happy to see how many people are eager to rush up with their partner.
Ranboo gets up, putting the glass down and offers me his hand, “So, wanna dance? Don’t take this as a sign to leave though, we said one dance and you CAN leave, not SHOULD.” He says, giving me a warning look.
I roll my eyes and am about to give him some sass right back but he takes my hand and picks me up from my seat, leading me to the dancefloor.  And I gotta admit maybe it’s a good thing he did. If he left it to me I would’ve probably said no to the dance and ran the hell away. Why? - Cause I’m freaking terrified of this new mindset and point of view and these intense emotions I never used to pay any mind to before in regards to my best friend.
Friends don’t feel that way about friends. Friends don’t look at friends that way. What’s happening to me?
When I gotta look him in the eyes like this, not for the first time might I add, I can finally understand how the friends-to-lovers trope works: it’s all meaningless until it starts to mean so much to you. It’s all platonic until it reminds you of a romantic movie moment. It ‘best friends’ until it’s ‘I wish we were more than that’. It’s all casual, until it’s not.
And, unfortunately, it’s irreversible.
Damn do I wish I ran away now...

here’s my dnf playlist and a complete song by song track-list and why I put them on it.
heatwaves- on here for very obvious reasons. i don’t think I need to explain. but here are some lyrics anyway. “Sometimes all I think about is you, late nights in the middle of June.”
Jenny- again this is kinda obvious. “I wanna ruin our friendship, we should be lovers instead, I don’t know how to say this, cuz you’re really my dearest friend.”
TALK ME DOWN- this one just has the best friends pining for eachother vibe. “I wanna sleep next to you, and that’s all I wanna do right now.”
Dark paradise- kinda has dream smp vibes. but also you could argue heatwaves vibes. “Everytime I close my eyes, it’s like a dark paradise.” “There’s no relief, I see you in my sleep.” “There’s no release, I feel you in my dreams.”
Sweater weather- yeah you know why. you absolutely know why. “All I am is a man, I want the world in my hands. I hate the beach but I stand, in California with my toes in the sand.”
Drop the Guillotine- idk man just vibey. give it a listen you’ll get it. it’ll click. “You sure know how to drop that guillotine on me, though you would never wanna see me bleed.”
Can I call you tonight?- thats on their only for of communication being through the phone huh. (major heatwaves vibe) “powers out and I can’t turn the fan on, so can I call you tonight? trying make up my mind, just how I feel.”-“I hear your voice on the phone, now I’m no longer alone.”
Lemon boy- oh my god this song. geogre do be seeing dream as his lemon boy. “I helped him plant his seeds and we’d mow the lawn in bad weather.”
Yellow- DREAM IS LITERALLY GEORGES YELLOW SHUT UP RIGHT NOW. “Look at the stars, look how they shine for you.” “For you I’d bleed myself dry.”
Like you do- first of all I love this song, second, this has dream being a little too attached vibes. The whole song is just them. “Lost in the blue, they don’t love me like you do, those chills that I knew they were nothing without you, and everyone else they don’t matter now. You’re the one I can’t lose, no one loves me like you do.” “Since I met you, all the gloomy days just seem to shine a little more brightly.”
I saw you in a dream- mega heatwaves vibe. “When I’m awake I can’t switch off,” “I saw you in a dream, you came to me. You were the sweetest apparition, such a pretty vision.”
Maybe you’re the reason- did someone say pining best friend who doesn’t know that they’re in love ? this song. this song right here. “I keep looking for something, even though I know that it’s not there. Maybe you’re the reason. And anytime I try to figure it out, you’re the only thing I can think about.”
The king- DREAM SMP VIBE. “You like me, well obviously, so why you tryna leave when you know that I’m the king?” “Other lovers give you no luck, cuz I’m the only one who’s made you fall in love.” “Playing with your heart cuz you gave me the throne.”
Sweet- an adorable song truly that actually fits them so well. “Watching the, video that you sent me- you know that I’m obsessed with your body, but it’s the way you smile that does it for me.” “It’s so sweet, knowing that you love me.”
Apocalypse- um okay here me out, apocalypse au?? yeah i know it’s cute as shit you’re welcome. “Your lips my lips, apocalypse.” “When you’re all alone, I will reach for you, when you’re feeling low, I will be there too.”
Fear of the Water- don’t come for me this ones kinda sad, beautiful song though. “If this was meant for me why does it hurt so much, and if you’re not made for me why did we fall in love?”
Dreaming of you- two words, heat. waves. but also yeah good song for them in general. “Want you all the time, and now I’m dreaming, dreaming, dreaming, dreaming of you.”
Wires- uhhhhh dream smp vibe, dream villain arc n all . “If he said help me kill the president, id say he needs medicine.” “He said that I should take it in, listen to every word he’s speaking.”
Midnight love- it’s girl in love so, you already know how it issss. “I know I don’t want to, be the one that you run to, when you’ve got nowhere else to go, when you need some love.” “I always give in to give you it all.” “I can’t be your midnight love, when your silver is my gold.”
The beach- SUCH A HEATWAVES SONG JUST LISTEN. “I feel it burning me, I feel it burning you.” “I think I can see the beach, I know what’s underneath. I need you here with me,”
Cherry flavored- the neighborhood just.. they have a dnf vibe. “Cherry flavored conversations with you got me hanging on. Down to earth from all the waiting. Take me somewhere beyond.”
Pretty boy- geogre is a pretty boy. point blank period. “Even if my heart stops beating, you’re the only thing I need with me.” “Pretty boy, you did this with me boy.” “As long as I got you, I’m gonna be alright.”
Bad idea- girl in reddd... but like imagine them casually hooking up and not knowing their in love tho. also I feel like they would definitely think that their relationship is a “bad idea” bc they’re stupid. “It was a bad idea, to think I could stop, was such a bad idea, I can’t get enough.” “Darling your so pretty it hurts.”
Line without a hook- ICONIC!! dream definitely does not think that he deserves george. “You can hold my hand if no ones home.” “All my emotions feel like explosions when you are around” “Oh baby I am a wreck without you.” “She’s a, she’s a lady, and I am just a boy. She’s a, she’s a lady, and I am just a line without a hook.”
Say you hate me- mega dream smp vibes as of recently. with the whole removing geogre as king. “I guess that your friends where right, from the start when they thought that I was a bad guy.” “Can you just say that you hate me? Or that you will never love me?” “Never meant to make you leave, never meant to make you cry.”
Cherry bomb- reminds me of how dream cheated on fundy with geogre. “I’m too close to crushing, and I’m too close for comfort I’m rushing.” “I ask how shes so mellow, she tells me her shades are in yellow.”
This side of paradise- I mean, like, kinda heatwaves vibes, but also just them. “Ask me why my hearts inside my throat. I’ve never been in love I’ve been alone.” “If you’re lonley come be lonley with me.”
Linger- geogre literally has that boy wrapped around his finger and I can’t not see it in this song. But when you look into it HELLA dream smp vibes, lyrics can be switched for either perspective here. “You know I’m such a fool for you, you got me wrapped around your finger.” “I thought the world of you, I thought nothing could go wrong, but I was wrong,”
august- i don’t know what is but this song is for them. it just is. “To live for the hope of it all. Cancel plans just in case you'd call” “So much for summer love, and saying “Us” Cause you weren't mine to lose”
I was an island- i just love the idea of them being hardasses and not thinking they need anyone until the other comes into their life and rocks their world. kinda dream smp vibes “I was a fighter, and I was so brave, but I lowered my sword when you held me and swore you’d stay.” “I was a wolf, dear, apart from the pac But you answered my cries in the dead of the night and told me that you had my back,”
Golden- k this one feeds into the “you’re literally the sun in my sky I’m not worthy” feel “I know you were way too bright for me I'm hopeless, broken” “I know that you're scared Because hearts get broken” “I can feel you take control Of who I am and all I've ever known Loving you's the antidote”
Strong- ummm okay but the “we’re better together” dynamic is them “I’m sorry if I say I need ya, but I don’t care I’m not scared of love.” “when I’m not with you I’m weaker is that so wrong? Is it so wrong, that you make me strong.”
Fly out west- the whole, I need to see you, you’re all I think about, stuff gets me. also heatwaves vibe. “Well tell me do you know? You’re all I dream about. Take it from me I’m too dumb to recognize your doubt.”
Cruel summer- them and summer, you dig? “I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you.” “I love you and that the worst thing you ever heard?”
Nothings gonna hurt you baby- I put this one on here because of how protective dream is over geogre “Nothing’s gonna hurt you baby, as long as your with me you’ll be just fine. Nothings gonna hurt you baby, nothings gonna take you from my side.”
Cardigan- young love, the kind of lover that makes you feel like you are the most important thing in the world to them “when you are young they assume you know nothing, but I knew you-“ “and when I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone’s bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite.”
Cry baby- them being in that weird stage where they recognize that it might be more than just senseless flirting and they might have feelings but also being paranoid that they’re the only one with feelings uh- “I can taste it my hearts breaking, please don’t say it. That you know, when you know.” “I know I’ll fall in love with you baby, but that’s not what I wanna do baby.”
Speak now- literally the fundy dream wedding. i rest my case. “I hear the preacher say speak no or forever hold your peace.” “Dont say yes runaway now.”
I love you so- this song is cute on the surface but kinda sad once you look into it. it’s kinda about a codependent love that isn’t going well. “I gotta get away and let you go I gotta get over, but I love you so.” “You were cool and I’m a fool so please let me go.”
In conclusion I’d really appreciate if you could check it out :) <3

I haven’t been to too many weddings in my life. I attended one for my uncle when I was around 10 years old but I don’t remember much from it. My mother also got remarried around 3 years ago, but up until this year, weddings weren’t a natural occurrence in my life.
This past year though.. I’ve attended two weddings, got an invitation in the mail today for another one, a close friend of mine just recently got engaged (so that invitation will be coming sometime in the near future), and one of my best friends’ wedding is tomorrow. Now I feel like everywhere I look, I am surrounded by love.
Now I’m not saying that is a bad thing, but when every one of your friends are either having kids, getting married, or in serious relationships, it starts to feel a little discouraging. Is there something wrong with me? Am I the reason why I’m still single?-- No, I refuse to think like that! I could get a boyfriend if I wanted to. Maybe my friends are right though… Maybe I’m not putting myself out there enough.
Anyway, one of my best friends, Karly, is getting married to her long-time boyfriend Travis tomorrow. I’ve met Travis, or as everyone seems to call him ‘TK’, a handful of times and I know he plays for the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team-- which is cool I guess, but other than that I don’t know much about his personal life or who he hangs out with.
Karly and I met running into each other at a cafe once. Yeah, yeah I know it sounds like one of those cliche romantic meetings, where two people bump into each other and immediately fall in love. I mean we did hit it off almost immediately and from there we became like two peas in a pod-- just not in the way you think. I’ve always wondered though, if maybe I ran into a handsome man at a coffee shop or walking down the street, would I be having my happily ever after right now?
I snap out of my thoughts when an incoming call from- speak of the devil, the bribe to be. Before I can even say my greetings, Karly jumps right into business;
“Ok! So since you weren’t able to come to the dress rehearsal or rehearsal dinner. I’ll give you the rundown on what you need to do.”
Oh yeah, did I mention that I am one of the bridesmaids? Sadly, I was not able to attend the functions before the wedding due to not being able to get time off from work. But, Karly was super cool with it, which brings us to the reason for this call.
“Ok so basically, your dress and everything is already in the bridal suite, so everything will be ready for you when you get here tomorrow. You’ll be walking down the aisle third with one of Travis’ buddies Joel-- he plays on the team with Trav and he’s such a sweet guy he’ll definitely help you out if you need anything.. You know now that I think about it you guys would be such a cute couple-”
“Uh Karly? I don’t think now's the time to play matchmaker, when we should be preparing for your big day tomorrow.” I cut her off.
“Alright, alright. But I will be coming back to that thought. Ok so anyway--”
After that I kind of zone out from trying to keep up with whatever Karly is spitting at me right now. While still on the phone, I pull out my laptop and search for the name ‘Joel’ with ‘Philadelphia Flyers’ next to it in search of this man who is said to be walking me down the aisle. Right away the name ‘Joel Farabee’ pops up with a wikipedia and multiple photos. Hm this guy is kinda cute. Just as I go to click view more images, Karly’s words register back in my brain;
“Ok y/n, did you get that?”
“Hm.. oh yeah! Got it. What time should I be there tomorrow?” I ask, praying that she didn’t already mention that and realize I wasn’t paying attention.
“8 AM sharp,” she responds all giddy.
I suddenly remember that my best friend is actually getting married tomorrow. Feeling giddy as well I reply, “Sounds good. I am so happy for you Karly and I can’t wait to see how beautiful you look tomorrow!”
Karly does a little shriek in response and reiterates her excitement as well. We then say our goodbyes and I wish her a great last night as an unmarried woman before hanging up. I got back to what I was working on before the call and all my jumbled thoughts entered my brain, totally forgetting about a certain someone named ‘Joel’ as I exited the browser.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The next morning I arrive at 8:17 AM at the wedding venue and as soon as I exit the Uber, I start booking it to the bridal suite. When Karly says to be somewhere at 8 AM sharp, you be there at 8 AM sharp, and I’m not particularly fond of facing her wrath today, especially on her wedding day when stress levels are through the roof.
There’s just one problem though… Since I wasn’t able to attend the rehearsal, I have no idea where I am going.
Trying to recall the directions Karly told me on the phone last night (when I wasn’t paying attention), I take a sharp turn around a corner looking the opposite direction and suddenly collide with a dead end. Wait- no that’s not a dead end, it’s a person.
Immediately going to spit out an apology, I stop dead in my tracks when I make eye contact with the handsome man I bumped into.
“Oh shit! I am so sorry. Are you alright?” I see his lips moving, which are very nice to look at by the way, but my mind doesn’t register his words as I stare dumbfoundedly at this handsome stranger. Who, now that I think about it, looks a little familiar.
When I still don’t answer, the familiar stranger clears his throat before giving me a once over of my whole body, which does little to bring me out of my trance. If anything I now start to feel my whole face flush from noticing him obviously checking me out.
His face then seems to light up in recognition before asking, “Wait, are you y/n?”
When he notices my look of confusion on how he knows my name he continues, “I’m Joel, Joel Farabee.” Scratching the back of his neck awkwardly, I notice a slight blush coating his cheeks before he adds, “We’re paired to walk down the aisle together… Um, also I think Karly is looking for you. She was kind of freaking out a little.”
With that last sentence my whole body comes back to life realizing that I am late and Karly is going to kill me. Hurriedly I exclaim “Oh my gosh! I am so late and I have no idea where the hell I’m going.” I frantically search around for any directions to point me to the bridal suite.
Joel kindly puts his hand on my shoulder, which immediately ignites a fire on the skin he is touching, before he reassures “Hey, you’re good. Just take your first right down this hall and then it will be at the end of the corridor, you can’t miss it. Seriously. She hung up streamers and balloons everywhere with a poster on the door that says ‘Bridal Suite. NO BOYS ALLOWED’.”
Letting out a soft snort I gently thank Joel before rushing in the direction he pointed me to. Before turning right, I sneak a quick glance over my shoulder to find Joel already glancing my way. My heart does a little flutter when we make eye contact and he gives me a little lopsided grin before going on his way.
What just happened…

As soon as I walk through the doors of the suite, I am immediately ambushed by the bride to be on why I was late, until she notices the deep blush covering my cheeks, which then prompts another ambush on what made me blush.
I change the topic as quickly as I can and direct our attention on getting ready for the ceremony. Karly looks absolutely beautiful in her white gown and her hair all dolled up. She doesn’t even seem remotely nervous for today as well. Most weddings I have been to, the bride is always going batshit crazy making sure everything is perfect or worrying that her soon to be husband might back out. That just shows how happy and comfortable Karly and Travis are in their relationship. God, I wonder what it must feel like to have that kind of love that is so solid and healthy. Suddenly my mind starts drifting to what it would be like to have that type of relationship with Joel.
Oh who am I kidding? I just met the guy. Sure, when his hand touched my shoulder my whole body felt like it was on fire. And yeah, maybe when he gave me that little lopsided grin it gave my entire stomach butterflies. Oh jeez. Today is gonna be a long day…
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ok now I feel like my whole body is going to explode. He is looking at me like I’m now the bride and he is the groom. And suddenly, I’m wishing that were the case. We are getting closer and closer to walking down the aisle together, and every step we take towards one another my stomach does a little flip.
When we finally reach each other, he offers his arm for me to take as he speaks, “Wow… Uh yeah wow, you look gorgeous.”
Blushing, I respond with a quiet “Thank you.”
“Guess I was the lucky one eh? In case I end up tripping and making a fool of myself, no one will even be paying attention because all eyes will be on you.” There’s that little lopsided grin of his again.
“Well aren’t you a sweet talker.” I responded.
He just gives me a subtle wink before we ascend through the doors and down the aisle where Travis is waiting for the big moment. He gives us both a little smirk before we part ways like he knows something we both don’t.
Eventually Karly walks down the aisle looking like an absolute princess. The officiator says his whole ordeal, Karly and TK both say their vows to one another, there are lots of tears, and Joel and I can’t seem to keep our eyes off of each other.
After the ceremony, we all head in the direction of the reception hall where the real fun begins. Don’t get me wrong, the wedding was spectacular, the way everyone expected it to be. Now as music filled the air with a giddy sort of elation, the newlyweds looking beautiful and so happy while dancing, friends and relatives chatting between one another about this and that; I can’t help but feel a little bittersweet about it. I want this. I want that giddy elation to be surrounded around me, I want to wear that beautiful white gown, I want the guy to be looking at me like I just hung the moon while we had our first dance. Where’s my happily ever after--
“You know you never properly introduced yourself?”
Startled, I spun around to find the source. Joel.
I give him a sweet smile before returning my gaze back to the happy couple and responding, “Y/n y/l/n.”
He follows my gaze and lets out a little sigh before expressing “They’re perfect for each other, aren’t they?”
“Yeah, they really are.” Before I can get another word in Joel blurts;
“Do you wanna dance? Like,” He stumbles a little with his words, “like with me?”
Letting out a soft giggle, I happily reply, “I would love to.”
Seemingly relieved, Joel takes my hand and leads me out onto the dance floor as soon as a slow song comes on. He puts his hands respectively on my waist while I put mine around his neck inching him closer to my body. We dance with each other for a while, even after the song is over and a fast high tempo song blasts through the speakers. It’s like we are lost in each other, just savoring this ‘moment’ together.
Eventually after the fourth song comes on and we are still dancing, Joel pulls away just a little to look me in the eye before softly whispering “Do you believe in happily ever afters?”
Seeing that look in his eyes again, the one where it seems like he is looking at me like I just hung the moon? I answer in that same soft whisper, “Yeah… yeah I think I do.”

Arranged Marriages With Stoic Guys
female pronouns used for this one !
“ y/n you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to “
“ are you stupid of course I have to “ you snapped at your father who stood hovering over you a slight smirk on his face “ eh thought you’d want to hear what you wanna hear “
you scoffed trying to push his arm off your shoulders this was all stupid you didn’t want to do any of this
“ honestly i’m doing what’s best for you y/n you need this — we need this “ he sighed “ I mean don’t you want to help your family and yourself think about how well set up you’ll be “his eyes went stone on yours “ you need this “
you flinched at the way his sureness slipped into his tone there was no way you were gonna get out of this “ no you need this there is no we right now “
his face hardened as he held out his arm for you to grab “ shut up and grab my arm “
“ i’m not going out there with you “
“ yes “ his voice was threatening and quiet “ you are “
“ I said im no— “
“ look you’ve been weighing this family down for years yet, we’ve said nothing— and now you finally have the chance to help us — to show you belong in this world and you won’t ? are you serious “
His face flew up into a look of annoyance “ you have no other purpose than to help us that is why you were born to be shoved into a family rich enough to secure your own and your families needs and now you mean to tell me you don’t want to do what you were created for “
your mouth snapped shut at his claims
“ are you that disgusting that you can’t even help your family “
you felt your body go cold as he continued to press into you
“ you preach how we’re the bad people yet you do evil shit like this“
he scoffed looking down on you “ i feel nothing but pure disgust to even have to go out there and call you my daughter “
he shook his head in disappointment before putting his arm out for you to grab again “ grab it “ his voice raised “ and you better go out there and put on that glorious look of innocence his father liked “
you gulped as he directed you quickly out the doors and draped the piece of fabric that you wore on your head. Placing it over your eyes and walking you down the aisle that had been so beautifully decorated
you were suppose to be getting married today not that you wanted to but, you had to.
you were the only girl in a family full of knuckle headed boys who just weren’t smart enough for an arranged marriage.
This was your fourth time being close enough to being married off though you hated the other 2 there was one that stuck out to you and that was number three
Your third boyfriend was one your family never liked they saw him as disgusting, vile, and too dirty with his language.
To you he was caring and open and rarely ever talked too harshly to you as long as you managed to never piss him off. You were happy with him and he was the only one you could ever see yourself settling down with until he told you He would take care of you and only you.
That was the nail in the coffin when you brought him over to dinner one night and out of the blue he spoke loudly so everyone could hear him “ look — with this whole marriage thing when I do marry your shitty daughter “
his eyes coming over to look at you and sending a look of reassurance your way making sure you knew he didn’t mean it. Them falling back to look at everyone around the dinner table who moved comfortably in their seats not caring how he talked to you as long as they would get to live lavish
“ i’m not taking care of you guys “ he scooped up the leftover food on his plate “ i’m only going out of the way for her and her only — the rest of you are on your own “
he shoveled the food in his mouth speaking carefully and making sure to watch his words knowing how serious he had to be with them in order for him to be heard by your parents “ you guys are using her for money and I don’t like that i’m not taking care of shitty parents and two brothers who act like they can’t even tell me how to spell yen “
him laughing and turning to your eldest brother a small smile on his face “ hey jerk face “
“ uh huh “ your brothers body wiggled in excitement to be acknowledged “ what’s up “
“ spell yen for me real quick “
“ babe don—“
“ shutup needa prove a point for your asshole parents “
“ hmmm “ your brother thought out loud as your other one jumped in the conversation “ hey dude what’s yen anyways “
your boyfriends mouth flying open as he slammed his hand on the table “ actually scratch that — i’m gonna pay for them both to go to elementary school and be two tall ass bodyguards that talk and say dumb shit like this to scare the kids into learning “
he pushed himself out of his chair kissing you softly before leaving the room. The door slamming as your father followed him anger swirling off his body at not only your boyfriends attitude for not wanting to help them but for coming in his house and making a fool of his family
you never got any of what your third boyfriend promised because he never got the opportunity to come back and your father made sure to have you cut off all contact with him.
So lucky you
free wedding , new guy
“ smile “ you felt your face do what you were told immediately as your feet shuffled down the aisle anyone could tell this was painful or at least anyone who actually knew you and not the 100 paid citizens of japan who sat in your wedding chairs
The guy you were marrying is a hero so, you can see how easy this is for him to pay for. He had to keep this little ordeal in the papers but only so, his father could stay relevant or at least that’s how they explained it to you no one explained that this was your e—
“ y/n“ your fathers voice was sharp “ take his hand“ you blinked finally realizing you were at the end of the carefully laid out carpet “ pay attention don’t make us look stupid “
you smiled carefully at the male before you dragged your foot stepping up and using his outstretched hand across from you “ thank—thank you “
it was silent which you immediately understood you knew he felt no need to talk to you ‘ maybe he’s not that into talking in public maybe he’s a private kind of person ‘
yeah he was so private that he said nothing but his I do’s and his occasional mhmm’s when you tried to get to know him with this continuing all night you never got to. This was all set up between his father and your own. you and him had no knowledge you were getting married today from what your father told you
“ so how— how is hero work “ you questioned as you two sat in the busy hall waiting for the doors to open up to allow people outside into the courtyard for pictures “ I hear you are one — a hero I mean “
you looked up to him as he faced forward his mouth making no attempt to move “ what really no it’s that hard ? “ you looked off speaking to yourself “ wouldnt think hero work could ever be hard“
“ did i just witness you ask and answer your own question “
your body shook as you felt heat rise up in your body your temperature high hands starting to feel sweaty “ oh uh “
“ if we have to get you checked for mental health problems i’d like to do so early “ he never broke his gaze from in front of him even when the doors opened “ I do not want to wake up with a knife to my chest or walk in on you talking to your imaginary friend after work “
you face dropped you understanding you were getting no where in communication with this man. You grabbed his outstretched hand and let him weave you carefully through the many people you didn’t know finally he stopped only to grip your hand tightly “ don’t move and wait quietly please“
you nodded your head as you watched him talk to the photographer guessing they were discussing where you were gonna take your pictures
“ hello there y/n “ you heard a booming voice say turning around only to bump square into a hard chest
“ or should I say daughter in law “ his voice scared you it was something about the way he was so sure of himself something felt wrong here
“ oh um do I— I know you “
“ of course you do “ he pointed to your new husband smiling “ you married my son an hour ago “
you shook your head uncomfortable with being left alone with now not only one person you didn’t know but also two plus a room full of people you couldn’t even name “ excuse me if I seem a bit “
“— lost , ditzy, bimbo like “
“ w-what bimbo? excuse me “
“ it’s ok as long as your quirk is as good as your father tells me I am fine with your intelligence level not being up to par my son is fully equipped with the knowledge to take care of a woman and provide like a man should “
“ I-“ you thought for a moment deciding on if you should go all out on the male that stood before you retracting into yourself when you thought of your father
“ oh y/n i know — it’s the bimbo tendencies? yeah here i’ll make it easier for you is there something you wanted to say“
you flinched at the statement smiling and presenting yourself happily as he smirked down on you ‘ he knows what hes doing ‘
“ no no nothing at all “ you said feeling his large hand pat you on your back “ good girl— get over there my sons kinda dense when it comes to talking to people “
you smiled to hold all the hostility in your voice “ yes i’ve seen so much of his density in our one hour together I find myself wondering how he can provide for me without proper communication skills “
the males eyebrow raising at your ability to speak back to an elder “ hmm he suffers with interaction due to lack of affection— childhood trauma as people your age like to say “
his smile tight and not fully reaching his ears “ I do expect that you’ll show him the proper amount of affection no matter if you got dragged into this or not “
you turned on your heel leaving the annoyed male to his own thoughts your hands coming up to interlock over your new ‘husbands’ shoulders “ hi shoto “
he bristled at your touch his shoulder moving to drop your hands as he pretended to stretch his arm in a small circle side eyeing you carefully alerting you to not touch him without permission again before he turned back to the male in front of him voice low “ I do not understand why I cannot take the photos the way I want to “
“ your father sai— “
“ their my spouse ? “ he was direct with everything he said “ it’s my wedding “
you could feel the questioning in every word he said voice low almost threatening the male in front of you “are you going to believe a 90 year old geezer who just found out beating kids is wrong or are you going to believe your beloved pro hero ? “
you could hear the teasing he held at the very end that even made you want to move just as fast as the photographer in front of you and follow after him
“ how do you want to take the photos y/n “ Shotos eyes looked down on you expectedly as you shook your head in confusion ‘ how did I end up picking our poses he wanted to change the generic one that was preplanned‘
you looked into his face as his eyes morphed into a look you couldn’t quite figure out “ i’m guessing you did this for me ? “
he shook his head slightly “ oh so you thought I would want something different from the basic ph— ok um “ you smiled as you turned to the front “ can we just do a um — maybe a hug but he hugs my waist that’s always a pretty marriage picture “
you moved to look back at him as the photographer agreed shoto moving carefully to stand behind you and wrap his arms around your waist hesitantly “ you can — it’s ok “ you felt as his shaky arms snaked around and sat in the spot that you guided them to your arms moving over them as your hands tried to soothe his jumpy ones
“ hey calm down “ you laughed “ just a picture — not me waging war on you family “
he looked down on your smiling face his own going through so many emotions not able to tell which one he wanted to show “ at least not the rest of them — your father maybe “ he watched as you turned back around the camera clicking as a genuine look of interest for you passed over his face
“ do you guys want to take another one “
“ um I think we’re good he doesn’t um— he doesn’t seem like a photo- e guy and i’m not very photogenic “
the photographer shook his head in understanding letting out a sigh of relief that he held as you moved to walk off your husbands grip tightening on you “ hey I — you can let go now sh— “
“ do you remember earlier “ he questioned “ when I told you to stay put “
your body flamed as you knew you’d done something wrong immediately feeling like you should try to defend yourself
“ why did you walk off “ his eyebrows furrowed “ how — why did you disobey orders “
“ I just—- I didn’t — your father— he — he came up and he— “
“ either way you didn’t listen you moved from the spot I placed you in” his eyes were staring holes into yours daggers really “so no matter who spoke to you — you were in the wrong “
“ I — it’s my body I can move “
“ yes you can in the spot I placed you “
“ I don’t even know you I don’t have t— “
“ that’s how it works “ his voice roared looking to the ground eyebrows furrowed as he was trying so desperately to understand you “ that is how it works in a marriage you listen to me —when I tell you to do something you do it and when I tel— “
“ no it’s not what — I” your face made up in confusion “ who told you these things —- this is ? i’m not a kid I am your wife now—we’re on two equal playing fiel— “
“ no “ you gnawed at your lip as he waited for a rebuttal seeing as though you had been answering him back after everything he said standing up straighter when he seen your tightly closed mouth “ i’m done with this argument I was just curious of something and you answered it “ he unwrapped himself from your body and turned to leave tugging at his suit
you not knowing wether to follow him or leave him be choosing the first option when he turned over his shoulder and stopped his movement
voice coming out short you were so confused with your new ‘husbands’ behavior he expected almost everything from you as if you could read his mind without words “ sorry — sorry “
he shook his head in understanding as he went to get his car from the valet opening the door for you as he opened his own getting in and setting himself up properly for a nice drive
your back hitting the seat hard when he took off your mind racing thinking this may be punishment for your words and anger towards him earlier.
‘ maybe he’s gonna play fast and furious while i’m In the car to get me to shut up ‘
“ I do not intend to scare you if that is what you are thinking “
he looked into his side mirror as he got over into another lane “ but I do intend to build structure where I see there is none “
you knew you should be quiet right now is not the time to fight for your rights in this new relationship not when he was driving like he’d never heard of a car accident
“ and I am not sure about you but I do feel right now is the best time to set that in place seeing as though I don’t know you and I doubt you even want to know me “
he waited on your answer “ when I stop talking that signifies you may speak “
“ sorry yes— no I do want—want to know you “
“ that’s interesting “ he sat back in the drivers seat as he eyed the road carefully slowing down a bit when taking in your answer “ i’d like to think that we were both forced into this “
“ ye-“
“ but that is simply not true “
your eyes refused to blink “ neither of us were “ he slowed the car down even more as he pulled into an underground parking garage “ you were handpicked by myself because I was asked to find a spouse to spark some uproar in the headlines or else i’d lose my title of number three hero and I am not too keen on giving that up right now with my father being number four and only living to climb the ranks “
he turned his car off as he turned to you “ i do not want to give him that enjoyment— “ he sighed “ you are not necessarily wanted nor needed— the only thing I can ask of you is to uphold this facade out there and i will give you and your family— everything i originally signed to in the contract“
he opened his car door as he stood fixing his suit again “ in here — my house you either follow my set of rules or you will be asked to leave and id honestly hate to ask you to leave “
you heart fluttered so he was interested in you
“ because then i’d have to talk to the media and I do hate when they ask me questions they have the material to supply themselves an answer with “
you heard the slam of the car door as you got out yourself hearing the two beeps from his car when locking it following him up the stairs as your eyes blinked several times
no
no no
no
you followed him up the elevator images flashing In your mind as you looked to the buttons remembering the number all too clear as he stepped out and onto the floor opening the door to the pent house your sweaty hands fiddling with the bottom half of your dress
“ shoto”
“ todoroki inside please my love — also “ he moved to his kitchen stripping off his jacket “ baby goes for me —my love goes for you in or out I don’t care — but do not overuse it — you will only annoy me “
you smiled softly trying to rush to ask your overwhelming question that was buzzing around inyour mind “ baby do you um— by any chance do you happen to have a rooma — “
“ who the fuck left the door open “ you heard the voice your ears had missed so much your body wanting to drop to the floor after hearing it “ shitty icy hot always coming in places and just leaving shit open— it’s like you don’t even know privacy “
“ well that is true I have never been awarded such thing as privacy I was off throwing up on tile after a long hard restless day of beatings “
“tch always so quick to spill your shitty trauma — wheres the bitch you set yourself up to marry “ he scoffed as you heard him nearing the kitchen “ marry for hire I mean “
shoto nodded as if the male could see it closing his fridge making his way over to you pushing you to follow him towards the loud deep voice “ she’s here actually though she’s going to be busy in a moment — you’ll have some time to meet her afterwards I promise “
“ god — if it goes on all night I swear — still can’t believe you hired some weird bitch to marry you and the whor—holy fuck “
Your eyes rose to meet his as you saw the tall blond drop his grenades he held in his gloved hands the loud clang echoing throughout the house “ my god I do ask bakugou if we’re going to stay together due to the department , that you do watch how you mess up our house , you have free range to destroy anything you want inside your own room “
“ shut —shut the fuck up ice tray“ his eyes narrowed on yours as he pointed at you “ this is the — the bitch you went to marry today — the one you picked out “
“ yes — I — is there a problem “ shoto turned to look you up and down “ though I did suspect some mental health challenges earlier i’m sure you can’t notice them up front right “
bakugous body shivered as he took a step back from you his body prepared to run
“ bakugou i’ve never seen you this “ your grip tightened on your dress pulling it up in the back hand dipping low to grab at your cell phone knowing you would have to call for help if he decided to be the bakugou you knew and kill you your ears listening closely as shoto spoke “ this afraid it’s quite eventful “
“ you— you dumbass “ he kept his eyes on you “ get the fuck out this isn’t the place for you— go back to your run down shitty cottage or something “
shoto stood confused as bakugou ran to grab you his hand tight on your arm his body stopping eyes made up in sadness face dropping as he felt himself wanting to scream and cry all at the same time. Hand only gripping harder onto your figure
“ what is the meaning of this —- I find this disgustingly rude — bakugou “
he shook his head eyes dropping to the floor your heart breaking he won’t even look at you that’s how bad your father screwed things up for you
Him pushing you away from him and towards the door as he spoke low hurt and pain ripping through his voice “ she’s gotta go “ his body moving to walk away “ now “ he screamed “ unmarry her or some shit—I don’t wanna see that bitch when I come back out here “
“ katsu— “
“ don’t you dare say my name not like that not with tears in your fucking eyes and sounding all sad and shit the last time you said it was the best time dont make me forget that shit “
your body shook in fear as his eyes weighed heavy on you shotos voice pouring out “ god bakugou please what are you saying your just being a bit of an— excuse my language my love but an — asshole aren’t you ? “
his body stalling when he thought back to a few moments ago “ wait how — how do you know his name “
your heart broke as you looked between the two men.
Just your luck that you would have to choose between a man who would most likely give you nothing but pure gentle love and supply your family the same only for one small thing in return or one that you missed so much every night you went to sleep
then again you would have no choice but to be married to someone that you’d already signed away your life to in a binding contract that stated your family and yourself would be very well taken care of and who were you to choose love over protection ?

🌜Moon wish upon the star✨

Roleplaying between me and @twins-born-in-a-new-moon
CW : Swear words, Sexual harassment
Word counting : 5,078
It was just a day after the announcement of the celestial ball. Everyone was very excited for it, they were already searching for a partner or thinking on the clothes they would wear that date. Artemis and Danique were not an exception to the excitement the ball bringed.
Artemis himself was already being questioned by his twin sister “Are you going to bring Danique as your date?”
“I don’t think so” he answered “she wouldn’t come with me anyway”
“Oh are you sure?” his twin asked.
“Yeah, she kind of hates me...” he said sadly.
You dork , Selene thought.
Meanwhile Danique and Penny are at the Hufflepuff common room.
“I’m so excited about the upcoming event!! What would you choose as a dress? Who would you bring?” The blonde haired girl squeals and shakes her amber eyes friend.
“Woah woah, calm down Penny! Professor Dumbledore just announced  this! Who would already think of that?” Danique said and shook her head at her lively friend.
“But you would go with Artemis right? Since you two are a thing” the blonde haired girl teases her friend.
“Wha-what do you mean by that?! Why would he like me? He is so perfect and me? No, we are not a thing. We just have a verbal war game..” said the amber-eyed girl with a  hint of sadness in her voice.
“Oh no, Dani! He has never done anything like that to anyone! You are special to him, you know?” Penny said with a serious face.
“Sigh, I don't feel like that Penny. Anyway, I may go with Barn since he seems so clueless about this” the white haired girl said, then stood up from the couch and walked off the common room.
Don't give me hope Penny, he deserves better. Someone like you. The white haired thought to herself.
“Oh, I need to tell Barn before some hungry girl snitched him before me”
Artemis himself was already moving to the great hall to eat, ignoring all the questions his sister asked him on the way.
Once there he could see many people already asking each other to go to the ball. Tulip herself asked him if he would go to the ball with her. He politely denied her petition and continued with his food.
It’s not like I don’t want to go with someone.. she wouldn’t come with me, would she? he thought.
Entering the great hall, Danique saw the boy she's just frustrated about, rejecting the mischievous red haired girl.
Huh! See? as I thought. He would have a girl by his side for that night already. The amber-eyed girl thought to herself and looked around for her hunky Slytherin friend.
“Excuse me” There is a tall Gryffindor boy appearing at her sight.
“Yes? what can I do for you?” said the girl with frowned eyebrows.
Is he the chaser from the Gryffindor team? I think we only talked once
“It would be an honor for me to have you as my date in the celestial ball. Danique Winter, would you go with me?” The boy said with a smirk then used Orchideous to conjure a red rose bouquet and offered it for her.
Ahhhhhh, the hell? Why would he have to cause a scene here?!
“Ah...umm...that's very nice of you to say, but I already have someone on my mind. And I have to go now, Sorry…” She said and gave him a forced smile. Then she walks off the scene as quickly as she can to the Slytherin table to meet her hunky friend.
The rejected Gryffindor boy stares, following her back, and clenches that poor bouquet.
Artemis looked at the little scene the Gryffindor boy make to try to ask Danique to be his date
You fool, she would never accept a petition like that.. so flamboyant…
He can see how the boy gets rejected but the words that came from her mouth make him... sad. Someone on your mind? he thought Of course, I should have guessed it before…
Meanwhile at the Slytherin table.
“Do you have anyone you want to go with, Barn?” the white haired girl asked.
“Noh...do I have to? There were some girls that asked me, but I don't know them so I rejected” the brunette boy answers.
“Will you go with me then? Since I don't want to go with some weird dude like that” She nods her head at that Gryffindor boy.
“As a friend tho, we could have fun together without those love interest feelings” she looks back at her Slytherin friend.
“That sounds nice. I'm happy to go with you Danique!” The brunette boy smiles brightly at the white haired girl.
“It's a deal then” she smiles at him and changes the conversation  to another topic.
Since Artemis was away from the two of them he doesn’t get to hear the conversation, but he can guess. Were you referring to Barnaby?
He decided to just finish his plate and go back to the common rooms. We have astrology tomorrow, I can ask her there!
The next day in their last class of the week, astrology, Artemis waited peacefully till the class finished to talk to Danique. Once the class is dismissed.
“Excuse me Danique?” he called her “Can we talk?”
“Does it take time? since I promised to help the first year on charms” She answered the boy.
Oh no, what would he want to talk about?
“It would only be a few minutes…” he replied.
“Hmm...it's okay then I guess…” she said hesitantly. Why do I feel like he is nervous now? Why would he feel that?
“Well... mmm-” he said a bit blushed “Will you... go to the Celestial Ball with me?” he said playing nervously with one of his hair strands.
Wha-what did he just say?! Celestial ball? me? But why? The girl was surprised by his words.
“I'm sorry Artemis, but I already promised to go with Barn…” she answered.
“Oh! Do you get asked by many people and don't want to go with strangers like Barn? I'm sorry I can't help you with that now” she seems to think of her Slytherin friend and answers to him guiltily.
Hmm..maybe I was wrong when he rejected Tulip, maybe it's just her joke
“No-! I” I genuinely wanted to go with you. he thought. “N-never mind... Hope you and Barn have fun in the ball” he said sadly
“See you soon Danique”and he left.
“Oh no! He seemed disappointed. Maybe I could check on him at the ball if he didn't go to anyone” The amber-eyed girl said to herself and then walked to the courtyard to meet the first year badger.
Artemis got out of the room and quickly went to the Ravenclaw Common Room.
There Rowan was sitting, reading a few books, so Artemis sat next to her.
“Hello Rowan” he said quite sadly.
“Well, someone is sad? What happened?” The girl asked softly.
“Danique is going to the ball with Barnaby…” answered the boy.
“Ouh- Well…” she looked at him. “We could go together, you know just as friends so we don't go alone?”
“... Sounds good for me” he smiled
When Danique finished helping with the first year, she went back to her dormitory and found that Penny and Tonks were there.
“Wotcher Dani! I hope to hear good news from you!” The pink haired girl said with a mischievous smile on her face.
“Yeah! We saw that Artemis talked to you and wondered if he finally asked you for the ball!!” The blonde hair squeals.
“Oh...um...he did ask me, but I need to tell you guys that I asked Barn to go as a friend yesterday” The white hair answered and smiled sheepishly to her roommates.
“Why would you do that Dani! Oh, I feel so helpless about you” Tonks said then facepalms.
“Look at you Danique! I said that he would ask you and you won't believe me” Penny pouts at her white hair friend.
“Now you guys make me feel guilty. Look, it's already happened okay?” the amber eye said then threw her arms up.
“Anyway let's talk about other things, you're gonna be the head of decoration right Penny?” She said, then sat on her bed.
Her 2 roommates just look at each other and thought She changed the subject again
“Oh right! I was thinking the theme could be ‘star’, what do you think about that?” Doesn't want to push on her friend, the blonde hair girl just goes with the flow.
“What can I say? I'm the star myself, you know?” when she answered and the room was now full of laughter and they continued to talk about it.
The days passed softly and so finally the night of the ball arrived, Artemis was wearing a fine and fit white suit with golden and lilac details, which helped his thin but slightly masculine appearance to stand out, he used a beautiful purple cape over his clothes, his hair was down but kept with a half ponytail, and changed his usual black glasses to a golden ones special for formal gatherings.
Thanks to all of this, and his albino appearance, he really looked like a moon prince.
Rowan, who was at his side, was wearing a beautiful blue dress with silver details, her black hair was in a side tail, she looked so pretty that night.
After finishing dressing, the amber eye girl walked to the great hall to meet her brunette friend at the gate.
“Wow...you look so beautiful Danique! It's not like you don't look good on the other day, but today you look much more beautiful!” the hunky boy said with sparkling eyes.
Before him, Danique dresses in a gold ankle-long dress with a high neck and revealed back. There are golden glitters starting from her neck to her waist. Below that, the fabric is a see through start from her tight. Her shoes are white high heels with strips around her ankle. Her hair is done as loose curls with one small braid at the left. The hair was tucked on the left side to show her silver star earring. She did her make up with a rosy cheek and brick pink lipstick.
“Thank you so much Barn, now let's head in the ball shall we?” she smiles back at him and they walk into the room decorated in star theme.
Rowan and Artemis were already sitting down waiting for everyone else to join, they were keeping a simple conversation until Danique and Barnaby walked in... She looks.. wow His eyes shone as he looked at her. She is sunning…
Rowan looked at him and then smiled to herself when she noticed who he was looking. “Shall we dance Artemis?” she asked and pointed at the couple with her head.
“Oh! Sure, my lady” he answered smiling.
Danique spotted Artemis and Rowan on the dance floor.
Woah...he looks...like a moon prince… The amber eye girl keeps staring at him for several minutes.
“That boy really looks good tonight” the voice from her brunette friend snaps her from the thought.
“You look so smart too Barn, I almost fell for you when I saw you back then” she flirts and winks at him as they always did.
“Well, sadly your heart is with that man” Barnaby said then make a fake sad face
“Sh-shut it Barn! Let's dance with others!” the white hair girl said with a reddened face and dragged her friend to the dance floor.
After a few songs our two dance couples ended up quite close to each other, enough to be able to see them dancing with their respective partner.
Artemis was completely mesmerized with how Danique flowed softly on the dance floor, but looking at how Barnaby holded her so closely made him... jealous.
“Hey Rowan, I had an idea,” he said with a smirk.
“Do tell” the girl in his arms said.
“Would you mind if...?” and he pointed at the couple with his head, Rowan understood immediately and put her arms around the boy's neck.
“Who will tell! Our dear Artemis can be jealous” she laughed.
“Oh shut it, Ro!” he laughed as well, as they continued their dance.
Seeing Artemis like that made Danique snapped.
Why would Rowan do that? Oh I see, he just wants to start a game huh? bring it on boy
“Hey Barn, when I twirled next time, hold me reallyyyy close okay?” she smirks at her friend.
“Okay...but why?”
“Just do it!” She lets out a whisper-shout
When it comes to the swirling position, Danique swirled then leaned her back on Barnaby's chest then placed her head on his shoulder. She grabs both or the boy's hands to place on her waist. Barnaby, flushed by this, quickly swirls her back to face-to-face position.
Both Artemis and Rowan looked at the other couple with surprised eyes.
“Crap” Rowan muttered “Any plan?”
“...None” the boy answered.
“Well, fuck” she then cursed.
The two of them  just stayed dancing close to each other for a while.
Meanwhile at the sass queen's couple
“Looks like they are done with this game. Ha! that boy never learned who is the champion here” the white hair girl peeks at the Ravenclaw couple and smirks.
“Sorry Barn, I went a bit too far right? Also, how about we stop dancing now and go to eat something?” the girl asked her blushed partner.
“Yea-yeah a bit too much. Speaking of eating, that's a nice idea! I'm starting to get bored of this” the brunette boy stops the dance and leads his partner to the table.
“Do you want some butter beer? I could grab it for you” he asked.
“Sounds great! I may sit here since my feet are sore a bit because of these stupid heels” the girl replied and sits on one of the chairs.
Artemis and Rowan find a place to sit down after a few dances and they peacefully chat with each other.
"So.... would you like something to drink?" Artemis asked
"No, I'm fine for now, don't worry" she answered.
After a few minutes, Barnaby was gone. Danique looks around to see how the ball is going.
“You look stunning today Danique” without looking, she already knew it's that Gryffindor chaser.
OH SHIT THAT BOY
“Thank you. You are looking good yourself” she turns to face him and notices that leans his hand on the table to lower himself to talk to her.
Don't get close to me you jerk
“Well, I would look better if I had you by my side tonight…” he smirks and places his other hand on her small bare-skin back.
Feeling disgusted by his action, the girl quickly stands up and steps away from him.
“Come on, one dance wouldn't hurt right?” still pestering, the boy grabs one of her wrists.
Oh no, it's so disgusting. Why did it take you so long, Barn? Please hurry up and comes help me
Doesn't like to be touched herself, the poor girl is shocked from those actions and stands still.
Artemis was very concentrated talking with Rowan until he saw how a boy got extremely close to Danique, the girl was surely disgusted by the actions of the man so he stood up quickly.
“Excuse me for a second Rowan” and as fast as he said these words, he went in Danique's direction.
Rowan quickly notices the scene before her as well “Don’t worry, go ahead”
“My darling,” He said, holding the girl's hand softly.
“Is everything ok?” he asked looking with clear angry at the gryffindor
“If he is making you uncomfortable, say so. I will get him off in a few seconds” he whispered to her ear.
The amber-eyed girl only nods her head and looks at the ground.
“Excuse me, sir” He said, getting Danique behind him so the boy wouldn’t get to keep touching her.
“I think the lady has been clear on her actions that she doesn't want to dance with you, or even have you around" he said frowning his eyebrows "I recommend you to leave her immediately unless-”
“Unless what a pretty boy?” He laughed “What will you do, as if you could do anything to me, now move a side”
“So that's your choice huh?” there was not only anger in Artemis' eyes, he was... infuriated. “Let me guess, your name was... Daniel Roberts correct? I think your father works at the ministry of magic?”
The boy flinched “You wouldn't dare-”
“Oh of course I will!” Now was Artemis who laughed
“Don't ever mess with Clair de Lune, your father should have taught you that... how unfortunate he is... to have a son that treat womans like a beast”
“Please don't do it!” He begged “I will do whatever you ask me but please, don't do anything to my father”
“Everything I asked?” Artemis smirked “Then apologize to the Lady immediately and leave, don't ever talk to her again!”
“P-please, forgive me miss Winter!” Trash in its place. And as soon as the boy said those words he ran away.
Artemis took a deep breath to calm himself down and then looked camly at Danique. “Are you alright Danique?” he asked softly
“Yeah! yeah...I...I guess…” she answers him softly and tries to move her hair to cover her back.
Artemis noticed the action of the girl so he softened his eyes, grabbed his cape and put it around her shoulders. “There we are”
Still not fully recovered from that physical touch, the girl flinches a bit.
“Ah- sorry I didn't mean to make you feel uneasy” the boy apologized.
“Oh no! It's not your fault. I just....Sigh, Can we get out of here…?” She hugs herself and looks at his eyes, her amber eyes still have a hint of fear in them.
He looked at her softly. “Surely, my lady” he offered the girl his arm so she could grab on it if she wanted.
Even though she was feared by that man, she feels safe around his presence. The amber-eyed girl then grabs his arm.
Then the two of them walk outside the great hall and go to the fountain yard where the sky is with a full moon surrounded by stars.
Artemis and Danique then sit together at the fountain... Looking peacefully at the beautiful night sky. Artemis hadn't said a word, he just wanted her to feel comfortable.
“Thank you for helping me back then” the amber-eyed girl broke the silence.
“I really appreciated that, really. I looked so pathetic right? A sass strong girl like me can't fight back that jerk” she let out a small painful laugh.
“You weren't pathetic” the boy said with a worry in his voice.
“That jerk didn't have any intention of backing off, until I menaced him of course…” he paused.
“And it's ok don't worry, I couldn't have stayed there just watching how that asshole made you uncomfortable” he then said softly to her.
Danique looks at him and is stunned by how his albino skin and white hair reflect the moonlight. Moreover, with the outfit , he looks like a real moon prince. She stares at him silently for a while.
Artemis looked at how the amber eyes shined thanks to the reflection of the stars of the sky, he felt he could lose in those eyes. He got close to her face. She looks so pretty right now but...She will hate me if I kiss her right? he thought and closed his eyes.
Huh? wh-why he lean in and closed his eyes, don't tell me he wanted to ki-kiss me?! Oh no my heart can't handle this now
“Umm..the-the sky is so beautiful tonight, isn't it?” She turns her head away from him and looks at the sky.
Artemis quickly gets back to his original position noticing what he was about to do “Ah- yes is indeed pretty” he answered, That’s not the only pretty thing in this place.. then looked at the sky, flustered.
“The full moon is so beautiful. I like the scenario when the moonlight shines on it” she said and looked around.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t it...?” the amethyst eyed flick to look at the girl beside him, looking at her with longingly as the owner spoke the sentence that seems to have hidden meaning in it.
“It always is” She looked at him and smiled.
“Oh! let me show you one of my favorite spells!” she said excitedly and looked at the boy.
He tilted his head “Ok?” He said a bit confused.
“Watch this and keep it a secret okay?” she smiles and winks at him.
Danique moves her right index finger and mutters some spell. Suddenly, there are many littles stars surrounding them. They are twinkling and moving around slowly.
“My father always did this for me when I was young, since he calls me 'little star' and I really like it” she let out a small chuckle.
“You are the first one I showed this to, you know? No one ever saw me doing wandless magic before” she looks at him and smiles softly.
Artemis felt his own heart melted by her words and actions. If the place was already pretty before, now it was definitely dreamlike, he sighed.
“Thanks for this honor” he smiled at her, flustered.
He got closer to her “This is truly a beautiful scenery” he paused.
“Yet the only thing I can look at right now is at the beautiful star shining right in front of me” he admitted.
Holding her hands in his, he said “You have truly mesmerized me Danique... and all my heart can seem to think about, is you” his cheeks were in a tone of bright red.
Stunned by his words, the girl now speechless and her face is all red.
Wh-why is he suddenly like this? I'm I dreaming right now? What-what should I say?
Then the music started playing again, Artemis standed up and offered a hand to her.
“Will you spare me this dance, Danique?” He asked, still felt a bit nervous by his own actions.
“Of-of course!” she quickly stands up, with a bit of awkwardness, then takes his hand.
The dance was a slow one, they danced and marveled at each other's appearance under the night sky. Artemis was feeling quite nervous, but happy at the same time. Holding the girl so close to him during the dance felt like a dream.
Meanwhile Danique, feels safe, yet nervous in her crush's arms.
Oh no he holds me so gently, my heart beats too fast like I'm gonna explode..After that thought, she steps on his foot.
“Oh! I'm-I'm sorry” she looks down at her feet.
“It’s ok. Don’t worry” he softly laughed.
Artemis could feel his own heart beating faster. I hope she doesn’t notice
He honestly feels like he is flying, but at the same time bound to earth by the beautiful lady in his arms.
The song went sweetly and slowly as it began and they stayed in the dance position for a few seconds when they realized it was over…
“That was such an amazing dance” She smiles at him, still not letting go.
“As expect from the perfect boy”
“Perfect boy?” A sad tone was perceived in his voice “Is that all I am to you?” He asked softly, looking at her eyes.
“Oh, no! You-you are more than that…” the amber-eyed girl answers nervously. She looks at his eyes and feels like they are luring her in. Her lips part a bit because of those dreamy purple eyes.
“More than that?” He leaned close to her face again. I may be misinterpreting her but..He once again closed her eyes and  gave her a soft kiss on the lips.
He could smell her hair clearer than ever before. The smell of peach and the soft lips of the girl, he couldn’t think of anything else for a moment. His heart felt like skipping a beat and he is.. so happy.
Being surprised by his action at first, the girl then closes her eyes and kisses him back. She could smell her favourite scents from him stronger than before. She wraps her arms around his neck and tilts her head to make it easier for the kiss. Her mind goes blank and her heart beats so fast as if it's going to explode.
Artemis just let himself melt in the girl's soft lips for a while, putting his arms around her waist. Good things couldn't last forever and their lips parted from each other. Artemis keeps his eyes closed, feeling his own heart beat hard on his chest, as he keeps holding the amber eyed girl in his arms.
After they parted, Danique opened her eyes and pants a bit from that sweet kiss. She saw that Artemis still closes his eyes and holds her delicately. The blush begins to creep all over her face since she gains her consciousness back.
Oh Merlin...We kissed?! And-and we are not even a couple! What have I done?!
She let go of his neck and hides her face in her hands because of shyness.
Artemis slowly opens his eyes and sees how the girl is hiding herself “Danique…” He softly calls her.
Still hiding her face, the girl squeaks. “Yes?!”
“Look at me, please” he asked, keeping a soft tone.
The girl finally gathered her courage and let her hand down.
Artemis gave her a warm smile and finally says “I love you” Feeling his heart beating faster than it was before “I understand If you don't feel the same I just.. wanted you to know how i truly feel about you”
“I-I..” Getting kissed and listening to her crush confess his love to her, the amber eyes girl seems unable to handle these. Her legs kind of give up themselves, the girl is now sitting on the floor and hides her face again.
These are too muchhhh, I feel like I'm dying. Then she remembered that he told her to look at him so she peeks through her hands.
"Can-can you give me some time? There are too many events happening today and I feel like my brain has stopped working. Also that was my first kiss, I..." she whispers the last sentence shyly.
Artemis helps the girl to stand up again. “Ah- of course” he was now the one being shy “Wait- your first kiss?” he whispered. So it was her first kiss as well?
“Yea-yeah, sorry if I was not good” she glances up at him and presses her lips.
“No- is not that... It was my first kiss as well..” Artemis said letting his cheeks become pink.
“Really?! but you are so...good..” she said with a dreamy voice.
Artemis became completely red by that commentary and covered his face with one of his hands. “Well, thank you..” he said in almost a whisper.
“You did it pretty good yourself…” He felt like he is meling.
“Tha-thank you..” she replied softly.
Seeing him blushed, the girl teases. “As expected from the perfect boy, you really are good at everything, oh also I think it's almost the curfew time” the amber eyes girl said with a smirk and looked at the clock.
“Good at everything huh?” Artemis now teased back "I will only do my best display for my lady after all. And, yes indeed" he said looking at the clock as well “We should go back” Artemis offered his arm to the girl “May I have the honor to escort you?”
“Oh yes, thank you my prince”she smiles and takes his arm.
There are a lot of conversations and laughs on the way to the Hufflepuff common room. And now they arrived at the barrel gate.
“Thank you about everything tonight Artemis, I would cherish this night for the rest of my life..” She smiles softly at the white hair boy.
“I could say the same, Danique” He said and gave her a kiss on her hand "Have a peaceful sleep, my princess” And with these words Artemis left to his own common room.
Artemis arrived at the Ravenclaw common room and was intercepted by Rowan “Well then... how was your secret date with Danique”  she asked, making the boy blush at the memory of the girl's lips on his own.
“I kissed her” he said “And I told her- yes, in that specific order”
“OH FOR MERLIN'S BEARD!!!” Rowan squealed “What did she tell you?!! She accepted you?!!”
“She... asked me for time to think and... process it all” he answered.
“Dank, so close yet so far” Rowan muttered “Don't worry I'm sure she would accept you in the end!”
Artemis put his hand on his heart “Would she?” he whispered. She doesn't even know about this after all..
After a few minutes of conversation each one went to their respective room.
Artemis hugged one of his pillows and smiled to himself remembering clearly all of the night before falling asleep.
Meanwhile at her dormitory. The other girls are already in the room.
“Seemed like someone got a secret date” the pink haired girl whistles.
“Yeah, how was it Dani?!” the blonde hair girl asks loudly.
“Ughhhh, Why do you guys always see this?” the white hair girl groans.
“Artemis is a good guy tho, get him Dani” the white wolf girl said
“EVEN YOU CHIARA?!” the amber-eyed girl now yanks her hair.
“Spill all of it morning star!!” Tonks then jumped at her.
“Ahhhh okay okay! Geez...”Danique told everything that happened between them.
“MERLIN'S BEARD DANIQUE!” the pink haired girl screams, followed by 2 squeal voices.
“Shhh, Tonks! you are too loud!” Danique lets out a whisper-yell.
“Why don't you just accept him, Danique? He had a feeling for you for a long time and you also like him” the blonde hair girl asked curiously.
“Sigh, he is a noble, remember? Also, he is hella perfect. Do I really deserve him tho?” the amber-eyed girl said with a sad voice.
Basic half-blood and noble pureblood huh? Sounds like Cinderella's story for me. She thought and looked outside of the window to see the moon surrounded by thousands of stars. The moon and the stars? Probably more like that.. She then excused the other girls to go for a shower and all of them knew right away not to ask about it anymore.

Chapter Summary: Things seem to be going well for Lemon until they go really bad really fast. Things are actually going well for Jackie and Jaida.
-
For the next couple of weeks, it seemed like Lemon was on the mend. She had finished her finals, gotten through her senior year, and now it was time to celebrate. Hers and Gigi’s graduations were only a couple of days apart, so the group decided to combine their graduation party that weekend.
It was one of the rare times the club was closed on a Saturday, but Jackie wanted to make sure everyone could celebrate together and turned the main room into their party space. “Cheers,” she said, raising her glass, “to Lemon and Gigi, college graduates!”
The group clinked their glasses together and drank, everyone resuming their casual conversation, relaxed, and enjoying one another’s company. With the exception, of course, of Lemon and Priyanka, who were still trying to avoid each other like the plague.
“Look, I love those two as much as the rest of y’all, but I’ve stopped feeling sorry for them — at this point, it’s just annoying,” Kameron remarked as she watched the way they behaved with a grimace. “Not that it’s any of my business, but it kind of is considering how often I have to witness them, but how long were they hooking up for anyway?”
Vanessa furrowed her brows as she counted on her fingers. “Dunno, like four months?”
“Shit, that’s like a lesbian year,” she murmured, sipping her drink. “This isn’t gonna fix itself is it?”
“Not as long as Pri’s got that rock on her finger.”
“It could be worse,” Brooke Lynn chimed in, her lips pursed around the straw in her glass, “at least she doesn’t wear it to work, can you imagine the fit Lemon would throw if she had to stare down a diamond every day?”
The three of them looked at Lemon, who, at least for the moment, appeared to be enjoying herself, then at Priyanka, who was talking to Crystal and looking stressed.
“So, dress shopping is happening on Wednesday?” Crystal asked. “Does she know?”
“Of course she doesn’t know,” Priyanka scoffed and shook her head, “I have no idea how to keep her from knowing, no one can keep a secret in their family.”
Crystal winced but nodded. “Well, good luck,” she offered before Gigi made their way to her side and her attention immediately became divided.
“Thanks,” Priyanka mumbled, her gaze drifting to Lemon, who was talking animatedly to Jan and Rosé, “I’ll need it.”
------
By the time Wednesday rolled around, Priyanka’s nerves hadn’t quelled in the slightest. Lucky for her, at least, those with her — her mother, sister, and future mother-in-law wrote it off as pre-wedding jitters. Scarlett knew better, but there was no need to blow up her best friend’s spot like that.
“Are you sure you don’t want to go to a more traditional store?” The mother-in-law asked, “I know Mark doesn’t want your culture to be ignored.”
“It will be two separate ceremonies,” Priyanka’s mom cut in before she could speak for herself, “she will be wearing her grandmother’s sari for that.”
Priyanka had to fight off the pained expression that tried to twist its way onto her face. It was only when she had broken the news to her family that she remembered what a big event weddings were in her family. She wasn’t about to get off lightly with this. Instead, she let the assistant at the shop lead her to a rack of dresses and suggested a few. She agreed to them without giving them a proper look, figuring she would let a majority rule.
Once she was in the first dress, she returned to the main room and stepped up on the platform in front of the mirrors. Right away, the women began discussing and debating the pros and cons of the dress — where it fit right, where it’d need to be taken in. But she couldn’t bring herself to focus on anything, instead zoning out to the song playing through the store’s speakers.
I'm living for the only thing I know I'm running and not quite sure where to go And I don't know what I'm diving into Just hanging by a moment here with you
Normally, Priyanka would roll her eyes at this sort of song, at the cheesy love in the lyrics. But with her only alternative being actively participating in shopping for a wedding dress, she listened to the music and let it resonate.
Desperate for changing Starving for truth I'm closer to where I started I'm chasing after you
She winced but blamed it on accidentally being stuck with a pin. They didn’t have to play a song that hit so close to home, she thought. It made it that much harder to ignore the feelings that bubbled up inside her. It was only then that she realized someone was talking to her. “Huh?”
“I asked if you liked the dress,” Scarlett replied.
“Oh,” she cleared her throat. “Yeah, it’s fine.” She then realized she should have been more convincing because she found herself ushered back into the dressing room to try on dress number two, which she would then force enthusiasm for so the day would end as soon as possible.
“Are you okay?” her mother asked with sincere concern.
Priyanka nodded as she stepped off the platform. “Just a little lightheaded, I didn’t have breakfast.”
“Well, let’s get this dress taken care of, then we’ll go get something to eat.”
She nodded again as she went back to change into her regular clothes. Maybe she did just need to eat, she thought. Maybe some food or a nap would bring her back into reality. The reality where she was preparing to get married. The reality that Lemon could no longer be the main character in, no matter what some stupid song was trying to tell her. Or even worse, no matter how much she wanted her to be.
------
“You don’t normally ask me to make house calls,” Jaida remarked as Jackie let her into the apartment, “is everything okay?”
Jackie exhaled deeply. No matter how many times she had rehearsed what she was going to say, she still ended up tongue-tied the second she laid eyes on her. But she was determined to work her way through this and not let nerves get the best of her. “I watched the video you did with Denali. I… I watched it more times than I’d like to admit,” she confessed. “And I can’t get the image of you fucking her out of my mind. But more specifically… I can’t stop picturing myself in her place.”
Jaida had to put all of her mental energy into fighting off a smug grin. She wanted to choose her words carefully, not wanting to overwhelm an already anxious Jackie. “Since we’re being honest here, that’s kinda what I was aiming for,” at Jackie’s confused reaction, she continued, “you could have been less obvious with your username and how you talk online. Maybe it’s ‘cause I know you so well, but I could read all of your messages in your voice.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
She shrugged. “I didn’t want you to feel pressured to confront how you felt, considering your coming out was still fresh for you. I just wanted you to know that the option was there whenever you were ready.”
There was a silent beat before Jackie swallowed thickly and told her, “I’m ready.”
“Then tell me what you want, baby.”
“I want you to fuck me.” The words felt foreign for Jackie to say, the phrase has never left her lips with any sort of sincerity before. But at the same time, she had never been more certain in her life about what she wanted and how badly she wanted it.
Jaida moved to Jackie, wrapping her arms around her waist and kissing her deeply. “I’m gonna take good care of you, okay?” she promised as they made their way to the bedroom.
And Jackie trusted her, she trusted her more than she would have anyone else in this position. She let Jaida take her to bed, let her take her time undressing her and pressing kisses to every newly exposed inch of skin. She eagerly helped her clothes off as well, letting her hands roam her body in ways she had only fantasized about.
“I don’t want you to be afraid of being loud,” Jaida told her. “I wanna hear you, wanna know how good I’m making you feel.” As she spoke, her fingers glided down Jackie’s body, stopping between her thighs before starting to rub her clit in small, firm circles.
Jackie’s head tilted back into the pillows, soft moans spilling from her lips. Her body yielded to Jaida’s touch and her moans grew louder as the other woman eased one finger into her, thrusting and curling it before adding another and picking up a steady rhythm.
“Good girl,” she praised, trailing kisses down her body. She then slowly eased her fingers out and replaced them with her tongue, licking and thrusting at a similar pace while her fingers moved to rub her clit in tandem.
It wasn’t long before the sensation became overwhelming and Jackie’s hips started to jerk erratically. She barely managed to squeak out a warning before she came harder than she ever had before, her body trembling when she was spent. “Oh my god…”
Jaida came back up and laid beside her. “Are you okay?” she asked softly, pushing the hair out of her face.
“I’m good,” Jackie assured. “I just… I haven’t… it, um…”
“Jackie…” she furrowed her brows and sat up a bit, “have you ever been with a woman before?”
Jackie’s face turned a deep shade of red. “I have, kind of. It’s been hard to work through so many years of repression and internalized homophobia, you know? I’ve made out with girls, fooled around a bit. But I guess no, I’ve never properly had sex with another woman before. I wouldn’t have wanted to put that pressure on you anyway. Besides, I couldn’t have asked for a better first time.”
Jaida exhaled deeply, suddenly becoming aware of the weight that’d built upon her chest. “Then that’s all I needed to hear.”
------
“There’s a birthday party out there tonight,” Gigi remarked offhandedly as they and Lemon got ready in the quick-change room. “I know how much you love those,” they added with an overly exaggerated eye roll.
Lemon groaned. Birthdays and bachelor parties were tied for the worst groups of men to deal with as clients, the only exceptions being the ones that take it as an opportunity to go all out and tip well. “And you’re on the stage next?” she let out another disgruntled whine when they nodded, finishing off her cocktail. “Gonna get a refill, gonna need it for doing rounds.” Naturally, when she went to the bar, she went right to Crystal. The downside was Crystal knew to cut her off after three drinks and she had to flirt with men to keep the drinks coming.
“You’re getting your third one this early?” Crystal questioned as she mixed it for her. “Something on your mind?”
“Nope. Just got a birthday party that’s probably all gonna want lap dances,” she replied, taking a swig as soon as she got the drink in her hand. Sure, it didn’t help that she had seen Scarlett’s instagram post of Priyanka in her wedding dress earlier, but she wasn’t about to hash that out, especially not with the bride-to-be all of four feet away.
And Crystal wasn’t entirely convinced, but she knew there was no use in pushing further. “Well, good luck,” she offered.
Lemon set her empty glass on the counter before making her way through the crowd. It took a little while before she ended up in the vicinity of the group of men, and not long after that, they flagged her down. At first, it was business as usual, though she couldn’t shake the feeling that one of the men seemed familiar.
“Hey Mark,” the man celebrating his birthday remarked, “maybe we should come back here for your bachelor party. I bet Priyanka won’t mind!” he laughed.
That made Lemon freeze in her tracks as it all clicked. She saw red and her blood boiled with a wave of anger and loathing she had never felt before. Something inside of her took over, she hadn’t even realized she had thrown a drink in his face and screamed at him until Kameron was pulling her away and all eyes in the club were on her, including Priyanka’s, who had dropped everything to run over the second she heard Lemon scream.
“Who the hell are you?” Mark asked incredulously.
“I’m who your fianceé thinks about while you’re fucking her,” Lemon snarled while locked in Kameron’s grasp.
It was then that both Mark and Lemon realized Priyanka was right there. “What the fuck is she talking about, Pri?”
Priyanka felt her heart drop into the pit of her stomach as she prayed for the floor to open up beneath her so the ground would swallow her whole. She knew she had been playing a dangerous game, but she could have never predicted that it would blow up in her face this badly. “I-”
“She’s never gonna love you,” Lemon continued with disdain in her voice. But then her tone softened to a calm, albeit distant one. “But don’t worry,” she looked towards Priyanka, their eyes meeting, “she’s never gonna love me either.”
Other than the music playing in the background, the room was silent as Lemon let Kameron take her upstairs to the common room. “How are you feeling?” she asked gently as she sat at the other end of the couch, resting her hand on the smaller girl’s leg. “You really caused a scene back there.”
“Whatever,” she mumbled. “He was gonna find out eventually. You can’t live a lie forever,” she hiccuped as she sprawled her barely-dressed body out. “I need another drink.”
“The only thing you’re drinking is water,” she said sternly, getting up and grabbing a water bottle from the fridge and bringing it back, propping Lemon up enough so she could drink. “I’m gonna call Rosé and have her take you home, I don’t think you should stick around tonight,” she told her as she fished her phone from her pocket.
Lemon nodded and pushed herself to sit up properly. She hung her head down, intentionally hiding her face from Kameron as she sniffled quietly. “Pri’s gonna hate me now, isn’t she?”
Kameron winced, unsure of how honest she should be with someone both drunk and emotionally unstable. “I think once the dust settles, you two are going to have to have a long talk. It’s not gonna be easy, but it’s gonna be the only way you two have a shot at healing.”
“I ruined her marriage.”
She shook her head. “She ruined her marriage the moment she said yes to someone she didn’t want to be with. She probably would’ve gotten cold feet and left him at the altar,” she mused, both out of her honest belief and the hope that she could get Lemon to crack a smile. And once she did, she felt comfortable getting back up and calling Rosé, warning her of exactly what happened.
“I got here as fast as I could,” Rosé announced once she made it upstairs. “Three different guys tried to buy lap dances off me on the way, sorry,” she added before rushing to her cousin’s side. “You’ve done it now, huh, Lem?” she shook her head as she helped her to her feet.
Vanessa emerged from the locker room with the rest of Lemon’s belongings. “Here, you might wanna get her changed before you take her back outta here.”
Kameron furrowed her brows. “You know her locker combination?”
“Um… yes?” she tucked a bobby pin into her back pocket. “This ain’t about me,” she was quick to change the subject and helped Lemon get changed.
Rosé effectively ignored the entire exchange, saying her goodbyes to the other women before driving Lemon back home and getting her changed again, this time into pajamas. “Mik isn’t home, you can sleep in her bed,” she offered.
Lemon chewed her lip for a moment, then shook her head. “Can I stay with you? I just… I don’t wanna be by myself.”
“Of course, baby,” she assured and tucked her into bed. “Do you need anything? Water? Something to eat?”
“Need to wake up in a world where none of this happened.”
Rosé sighed sadly. “Fresh out, unfortunately.” She changed as well before joining her in bed. “Just wake me if you need anything, okay?” When she got a nod of confirmation, she turned the lights off and called it a night.
But that wasn’t the case for Lemon. No, she wouldn’t be so lucky. Even though she had been drunk, the incident replayed in her mind in great detail no matter how many times she tried to shut it off. That, coupled with struggling to sort through the mix of emotions still swirling through her, kept her awake for another hour or so before exhaustion took over and she passed out.
And back at the club, everyone else was left to pick up the pieces of the explosive incident. But as much as the clientele was willing to move past what they’d witnessed, none of the employees could get themselves to carry on. So, with Jackie’s blessing, they called it an early night and nearly everyone went back home.
Priyanka hung back, seeking solace in Jackie’s office, knowing her boss might be the only one that could understand the gravity of the fallout. “What the fuck am I supposed to do now, Jackie? This is effectively outing me to everyone. And I look bad too, they’re gonna find out I’m gay and a cheater in one go. What should I do?”
Jackie sighed, her heart truly breaking for her. “I wish there was an easy answer for this. I think, for now, you just need to get through the night.”
And Priyanka would, though she was afraid to fall asleep, overwhelmed with the need to postpone tomorrow as long as she could, because she had run out of ways to hide or lie her way out of it.

It be June 3rd now, and would you look at that, the second of my prompts is already up! Who’d a thunk it? Anyway, as successfully guessed by the lovely @torahime here is 5 + 1! And as by the nature of this trope in general, this one ended up long. Like crazy loooooooong. (Also I’m a moron who didn’t understand what the prompt meant for like a week. I kept trying to figure out what the hell the number six had to do with anything, and when I finally googled it out of desperation, all I saw were the words ‘five times’ in the first link and I immediately felt ashamed of myself. I should have known. Why didn’t I know?)
Anyways, you can read the long-ass fic in question at ao3 over here: Do You Ever Wonder What Could Have Been? You can also read this one under the cut, but considering the length I wouldn’t recommend it asdhaskdjh The next one should be much shorter due to the fact that like the first one, I blanked for ideas completely lol.
Do You Ever Wonder What Could Have Been?
Trope: 5 + 1 Fandom: Until Dawn Characters: Ashley Brown, Chris Hartley, Josh Washington (all the other kids also make an appearance but due to them only having like one scene and a single line each I’m not tagging them) Words: 12733 Rating: Teen (though I think I’m being pretty damn generous with that rating tbh) Authors Notes: Yes you’re reading that word count right. Almost thirteen thousand words. Don’t ask how I managed to write this in 5 days, I have no fucking idea. Just take this fic about two nerds being morons in love and mutually pining over each other for six. fucking. years.
Chris is fourteen and so goddamn tired of this stupid crush on his best friend. It's been a whole year now since he met her, and he hates that this stupid, silly, little, crush of his hasn't abated at all. He doesn't even know why he likes her in the first place! It's just Ashley after all, there is absolutely no reason to feel this tongue-tied around his best friend. It's Ash: with her braces, arms always full books (when her head wasn't buried in one that is), stringy red hair, wide green eyes, who sometimes snorts when he tells a joke, freckles that dot her nose and shoulders and—
Okay, he was maybe getting a little side-tracked here. The point was, there was 100% absolutely no reason to feel this way about her. In fact, he bets this was all Josh's fault in the first place! Yeah! That was it! None of this would be happening if Josh hadn't basically kidnapped Ashley from her true home in the library and forced him to meet her!
...But then he wouldn't have met her. And stupid crush aside, she is pretty much the only girl he knows who laughs at all his jokes and helps him with his English homework sometimes. He likes knowing her and likes being her friend even more, he just doesn't like liking her. And maybe that was it? Maybe he just likes Ashley cause she's the only girl who willingly hangs out with him and Josh, and isn't Josh's sisters.
And that's what he's going to prove today once and for all. He heard from Josh that Hannah was absolutely adamant that everyone was going to play spin-the-bottle at her and Beth's birthday party in a couple of days. And that everyone meant not only the people that the twins invited for said party, but also the people that Josh invited over (ie: Chris and Ash) so he would have some company during the twins big b-day bash. Chris was going to find Ashley and explain that losing their first kiss over a game like spin-the-bottle was just so not cool, and that maybe kissing each other first would just be a way better and smarter idea of doing things. And once he kissed her he would finally realize that yup, Ash was just one of the guys and that was so fucking gross and they were totally never ever going to do that again.
Perfect idea. Fool proof even. No way that this was totally going to backfire into his face. Absolutely none at all!
So when he finds Ashley sitting and reading under her usual tree just outside of the school, he is so sure of the success of his ingenious plan that he brings it up right away.
"I think we should kiss before Hannah and Beth's party."
See! Right away! Straight to the point. He has got this shit in the bag baby!
Ashley looks up at him, clearly a little startled from reading her book and squints at him. "Huh? Chris? Is that you?" For a second he's a little confused about how Ash doesn't even recognize him, but then he quickly realizes that he's probably got the sun directly at his back so she can't see him clearly and he awkwardly shuffles to the left a little so she can see him better. "Oh! Hey Chris, what was that you said earlier? I got so absorbed that I didn't really hear a thing you said, sorry." While she doesn't close her book, she does give an embarrassed little laugh that makes his stomach flip-flop just a little and starts to weaken at the cracks of his once fool-proof plan.
He finds himself messing with the strap on his bookbag as he tries to ignore the butterflies fluttering around in his stomach. 'Um, I asked if you were going to the twins' birthday party this weekend." Okay, falling a little behind schedule now, but it's fine. No problem.
"I mean, I wasn't exactly invited, but yeah. A whole night of graphic horror movies to drown out the sounds of screaming pre-teens. I honestly can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night." The absolute dryness of her tone has Chris smiling.
"Oh come on Ash, it's not gonna be that bad."
"Our choices are either to hang out with a bunch of kids who have basically never talked to us ever, or watch Josh's disgusting horror movies Chris."
"Well, I mean, when you put it that way...actually, no. The screaming pre-teens sound like a safer bet honestly." The little snort of laughter she lets out only has Chris pushing the butterflies down harder. God, he is going to be so glad when those stupid things finally leave him alone. "And well, from what Josh said, it sounds like horror isn't the only thing planned for that evening."
"It isn't? You mean he's actually opening up to other movie genre options? Shocking. I truly never thought I would see the day."
"Ha, I wish. Nah, I was, um, talking about what the girls—well, what Hannah wanted to play. Actually." Great. And now he's starting to blush. Really keeping with the rails of his plan there!
"What Hannah...? Oh! You're, uh, talking about the spin-the-bottle game." Ashley brings her lower lip into her mouth and pushes some hair behind her ear. "Yeah, Josh mentioned something about that."
Perfect, one less thing he had to explain. That would speed things up immensely. "Honestly, between you and me? I think it's a stupid idea."
Ashley nods her head vigorously in agreement. "I know right! I mean, who wants to kiss some stranger over a bottle of all things? Can you imagine losing your first kiss to some person who probably doesn't have a single idea who you are in the first place? God that would be awful." Oh man, things are lining up right for him! Ashley's even on the same page and this next part is going to be so easy— "That's why I asked Josh if I could kiss him first instead when he told me a couple of days ago."
Wait. Waitwaitwait wait . She already asked Josh?! "Oh, wow. You were, uh, really thinking ahead there huh?" God, he could feel every ounce of determination he had slowly deflating out of his body. There was no way he could ask her now, absolutely no way! Ashley was gonna think that Chris wanted to kiss her—or worse, liked her! And okay he kind of did, but this was supposed to prove the exact opposite. That this was just stupid hormones and puberty really messing with his life and not something else.
"Of course, there was absolutely no way I was gonna have my first kiss with some popular buttface who was just gonna make fun of me behind my back afterwards. Better to have it with Josh, who would also make fun of me, but at least it would be to my face." Ashley starts to return to her book, flipping a page but stops halfway through. "Wait. Were you going to ask me the same thing?" She sounds a little unsure and a little of something else he can't place right now because he's too busy trying not to panic.
"What? No! God no! Of-of course not!" Oh god, was his voice seriously choosing to crack now? He really, really hoped that the shade being cast from the tree was enough to hide how red his face was. He needed to get out of here and quick .
"I-I-I mean, it's not like it was good or anything—"
"Think I should probably go now anyway."
"It was, like, really wet and-and-and like so bad. Super awkward honestly."
"Lots of things to do. Lots and lots of things to do in fact!"
"I mean, we could still, uh, k-k-kiss? If you want to...?"
"Nope!" Chris was honestly looking everywhere except at Ashley right now, which was fine because she was currently in the middle of trying to hide behind her book. "There's absolutely no reason to do that. Because, because... I already kissed Josh too!"
"...you did?"
"Yup! Totally did. Just came over to see what you had planned to do about it actually. And because you're so much smarter than me, you had totally already done the same thing. So no reason for me to still bother you after all! None whatsoever! So I'll just let you get back to your book. And the battle between the uh, vampire and the, um, cowboy? Riveting stuff I bet."
"Um, yeah. But—"
"I'll just, uh, see you tomorrow then, I guess. Bye!"
Chris thinks he catches a wave of disappointment flash across her face when she returns his farewell, but he's already basically fled half away across the yard to find Josh so he doesn't think about it too much. And it turns out that Ashley is right, kissing Josh is wet and pretty fucking awful in the end. Which should only prove his idea that kissing her would have been just as bad and awkward.
So why does he feel like it would have actually been the complete opposite?
"I'm going to fail."
Ashley rolled her eyes as she struggled not to laugh. "Oh my god, you're not gonna fail Chris."
Chris didn't even deign to raise his head from where he had face-planted it into the open book only moments before, letting his words come out muffled and flat. "I am Ash. I am going to bomb this exam so hard that they're gonna make me repeat ninth grade."
Ashley groaned, but it was more of an attempt to hide her amusement than out of any exasperation, as she tried to lift Chris back into a sitting position and wasn't laid out prostrated over the table. "Okay first of all, get your dumb face out of that book. Ms. Norman is not gonna be happy with either of us if she discovers your drool all over the pages of the only half-decent copy of Lord of the Flies that the school library has." Once she finally has finally managed to prop Chris into a halfway decent sitting position, she moves the book closer to her in case he decides to try smashing his face into it again. "Second of all, I'm pretty sure that the school's not going to make you repeat the grade just because you failed English, your grades in everything else are high enough that they'll definitely pass you. That, and there is no way that the teachers would let Josh move on to high school of all things without supervision."
"...That is a scarily good point."
"And thirdly, there is absolutely no way I would be able to get through the next four years of school with you in my grade," she teases him with a poke in the arm. "I mean can you imagine? Having to go to class everyday knowing you're going to be there with me? I can't think of anything more terrifying honestly."
Chris gives a startled laugh. "Gee, thanks Ash. Really appreciate that vote of confidence. Making my self-esteem soar over here. And also, I for one can think of something way more terrifying."
"Really?" Ashley says as she crosses her arms across her chest and levels him with a disbelieving look. "Well go on then, try me. Cause I can promise you that there is absolutely nothing more terrifying—"
"Me and Josh in the same grade as you."
Ashley just blanches. "Oh god. You're right. That is so much worse and the idea of this even happening is now going to give me nightmares for the rest of my life."
"Oh please, it wouldn't be that bad."
"It would. It so would. And to prevent this we need to double down on you studying for your English final so that this cataclysmic event never occurs."
It's Chris's turn to roll his eyes as he slumps down even further into his seat. "That's what I was doing earlier until you stopped me."
"What? Planting your face into the middle of the book?"
"Exactly. Decided to try out a new method cause the other one wasn't certainly working. Learning by osmosis."
Ashley shoves her face into the palms of her hands to try and stop her giggles. It didn't work, not by a long shot, but it at least smothered them a bit. "You can't just read a book by trying to absorb it into your skin, that's not how things work at all!"
"And how would you know that Ash? Have you ever even tried?" Chris scoffs.
"Of course I haven't you dork! I haven't tried because that's not even possible!"
"Um, sounds to me like someone just isn't open to new ideas."
"Oh my god. Can we please get back to studying and making sure you don't fail. I for one would really like to get back to that." Ashley starts to put the copy of the book back between the middle of them where they can both read it easily. "Okay, so chapter eight is where the divide between the boys finally reaches a boiling point after seeing the 'monster' on the mountain in the last chapter. They argue over whether Ralph should still be left in charge and Jack leaves in a huff."
Chris groaned as he tossed his glasses onto the table so he could throw his arm over his eyes. "Starting to think that Jack has the right idea here." he grumbled.
Ashley ignored him. "Some of the other boys follow after him and form their own tribe with Jack as its chief further down the beach. As a group, the hunters then fall into a savage frenzy when they go hunting and kill a sow, with Roger dealing the killing blow."
"By driving his spear into the thing’s ass," Chris helpfully supplied.
Ashley sighed. "Yes, by doing that. Good to know you're at least remembering some things, but do you remember what happened next?"
Though she couldn't see with Chris's arm in the way, she knew that he was narrowing his eyes in concentration. "Ummm, they... eat the pig?"
Ashley groaned and fought very hard against the impulse to smack her forehead into the center of the table. " Chris . "
"What? Do they not eat the thing? I mean, why even hunt it if they're not gonna eat it?"
"Chris, what they do next is the lead up for what is often considered the most important scene in the entire book! How can you not remember?!"
"I don't know Ash! Kind of think I was distracted by the whole 'shoving a spear into a sow's anus' part!"
"They leave its head on a stake in the jungle as an offering to the beast! This is what creates the Lord of the Flies that Simon sees later that night!"
"Oh right, that. Yeah that sounds a little familiar now that you mention it."
"A little—" Ashley stops fighting against the earlier urge and places her heavy head into her hands in despair. "You literally had to read this book last month! How could you have forgotten so much already?"
Chris groans and drapes himself over the back of his chair. "This is hopeless Ash. I appreciate the help I really do, but I think it's time we face the inevitable and just take a page out of this book."
"What, I stick your head on a pike and be done with you?"
The snort that Chris makes in surprise is enough to bring a tired smile to Ashley's face. "Leaving you to deal with Josh alone? Ha, you wouldn't. Nah, I was talking about just making an offering to the exam gods out there. Think they'll be the best bet I have to pass this shitty ass final."
Ashley removes her head from her hands to give him a withering look. "If we're going that route, you want a kiss for good luck too? Probably work just as well as those gods of yours."
There's an awkward pause, and at first Ashley can't figure out why but then the words finally hit her. She feels her face start to burn and she places her head back into her hands so she doesn't have to look at Chris anymore. Oh god, she can't believe she just said that. Why would she even say that in the first place?! It's a damn good thing that Chris isn't wearing his glasses right now, the heat from her face alone is making her feel like she's about to combust as it is, and him seeing that would probably push her over that physical boundary.
"I-I mean, if you think it will help..." Chris sounds almost bashful when he says it and Ashley snaps her head to him in shock.
"I—" Ashley isn't quite sure what she's trying to say, and is interrupted when her phone buzzes with an incoming text message. She immediately jumps up from her chair and starts grabbing at her things. "Oh man, that's probably my mom here to pick me up. I should really get going."
"Uh, yeah. Yeah! No reason for me to stay if you aren't so I guess I should head out too." Chris starts picking up his stuff too, putting his glasses back onto his face as he shoves his books into his bag.
By nature of having brought less than Chris to help him study, Ashley finishes cleaning first but doesn't leave right away. Chris had said it was fine after all. And sure, maybe he was just desperate for anything that will help him pass his final, but he said it would be fine. So steeling herself, Ashley leans down and leaves a quick but chaste kiss on Chris's cheek.
"For luck!" She manages to squeak out as she all but runs out the doors of the library to the school's entrance where her mom will be waiting for her, too scared to even look back.
Chris should have known that something was up the moment Josh brought it up: 'Hey, how about you and Ash hang out at my house this weekend instead?' Innocent sounding sure, but he really, really should have known better. Josh never pushed for hang outs at his place, it had always been an agreed upon rule that Hannah and Beth got their place, while Josh preferred to host their get togethers and his and Ash's own houses. It was just the thing that was done and everyone had been more than happy with how it was. Had it been any other time, Chris would like to think that he would have totally seen right through Josh's plan and offered up his place instead.
But Josh's parents were almost never around either, and that meant staying up late and talking and goofing around without parents warning them to go to sleep. Which most importantly meant staying up late and talking to Ashley, because that hadn't been a thing that the three of them had been able to do a whole lot recently. It was still so weird not seeing Ash around in the school halls, not being able to hang out at lunch, and not meeting up after school all the time. It felt like there was something huge missing and it bothered him (just as much as it bothered Josh, not that he would ever say anything about it). The two of them wandering the hallowed halls of high school while she was still stuck back in their middle school just felt so wrong .
So when Josh had brought up a weekend hang out, Chris (and Ashley) had accepted right away. Which, judging from the fact that Josh had somehow managed to weasel the two of them into playing a game of Truth or Dare with him, had been a huge mistake.
"Well, well, well. It seems the time has come. So let's get on with it shall we?" Josh rubbed his hands gleefully together in the dim light of the bedroom (for atmosphere he had claimed) as the three of them sat in a circle. A seemingly innocuous plate of cookies sitting in the middle of them, and knowing better then to trust Josh, both Chris and Ash had been eyeing the cookies warily for the past few minutes. Not that Josh seemed to notice or care of course. "Seeing as I'm the one who set up elegant little ritual—"
"You forced us into playing a stupid game dude, there's nothing elegant or ritualistic about it."
Josh ignored him, unsurprisingly. "I'll go first of course. So Ash, truth or dare?"
"What are the cookies for Josh?" Ashley asked nervously as she continued to eye the plate instead of answering him.
"That's not important. And anyways, it's my turn Ash. So I'll ask again: truth or dare Ashley?"
Ashley raised her eyes from the plate to transfer her nervous and mistrustful stare to him. "...truth," she answered slowly.
"Oh ho ho! So truth it is! Well then Ash, tell me: have you got any secrets you've been dying to share with us?"
Chris could immediately tell that the question had hit a sore spot on some sort, shoulders locked and her body stiff. "You know I'm not gonna answer that one. Pass."
Josh shook his head, a devious smile on his lips. "Nope. Nuh uh Miss Brown. That's not how this game works. If you're gonna pass then I'm gonna have to ask that you take a cookie in return."
"...I'm sorry, what? "
He waved a hand down towards the plate of cookies. "These, my dearest chums, are the fabled Truth or Dare cookies. Anytime one of us refuses to act out what is asked of us, we must then take a cookie in penance."
At first, Ashley doesn't move. She continues to dart her eyes suspiciously between Josh and the plate of cookies, but eventually slowly does reach out and hesitantly grab a chocolate cookie from the plate. She holds it up closer to her face to investigate it further, and Chris watches as all the tension she had stored up just evaporates from her as she physically deflates. "Oh my god, are you actually being serious right now Josh? ‘Dare’ brand cookies? Really? Why in the world are you trying to be so ominous when you went with a pun as lame as using Dare cookies in a game of truth or dare?"
"Wait, really?" Chris reaches out to grab one for himself but Josh smacks his hand away with a grin.
"So sorry Cochise, but these are only for if you refuse. And trust me, you don't want to refuse." Josh turns back to Ashley. "Oh, and don't eat that just yet."
In response, she just shrugs and leans back, but keeps the chocolate crème filled cookie in her hand as she looks between Chris and Josh. "It's my turn now, right? Okay, so—"
Josh cuts her off. "Nope, still mine. Now, Chris—"
"What? That's not how this stupid game works Josh!"
Josh waves her off. "You didn't answer my question Ash, or eat the cookie, so it's still my turn."
"But you just told me not to eat the stupid thing!"
Josh ignores her as he keeps his attention squarely on Chris. Who, to his own shame, has begun squirming in his seat in dread of what's going to come. "Well, Chris: truth or dare?"
Chris tosses the options over in his head. Both are terrible obviously, but playing this game with Josh of all people never ends well, so he decides to go with his gut instead. "Dare."
"Ooooh, feeling a little gutsy are we? That's fine, I can work with that. I dare you to... return the favour and do one thing you've been thinking about alllllllll summer."
Personally, Chris is finding it a miracle that he hasn't reached over and tried to strangle Josh yet, but he has a feeling that has more to do with the fact that he's trying not to shrivel up on the floor and die than out of any mercy. Even though Josh for some reason worded it in a really convoluted way, he just literally dared him to kiss Ash. It was so obvious that he was frankly amazed that Ashley hadn't figured it out yet.
Because of course he still thought about that kiss for good luck that Ash had given him in the library. He thought about it nearly all the damn time! Hell, Chris was pretty sure that the reason he had even passed his final even a little bit was because of the kiss. Not because it was good luck or anything, but because whenever a question appeared on the exam that asked about the themes or some shit about Lord of the Flies, he kept getting sent back into that library where Ashley had been drilling the same stuff into him just before she had kissed his cheek.
And there is absolutely no way that he's gonna kiss Ash in Josh's bedroom. No way in hell. Especially not when it's gonna reveal that he had been thinking about what was more than likely a super innocent and helpful gesture on her part.
So glaring at Josh, Chris reaches forward and without a word grabs a vanilla cookie. And for some strange reason, this only causes Josh's smile to widen. "I see, so that's what you both went with huh? Anyways, I think it's about time you take your 'reward' and chow down!"
Exchanging a confused look with Ashley, Chris nonetheless shrugs and pops the entire thing into his mouth and bites down.
And realizes in a horrifying instant that this is not a vanilla cookie.
There's a flash of light that blinds him for a second, and when the spots clear he sees Josh holding a camera and laughing his ass off.
"What the—? Is this fucking mayo dude?!" And it must be, because this is not what a vanilla cookie should ever taste like. While the cookie portion itself is okay if not a little soft, the crème is way too oily and eggy to be anything but mayo. Josh doesn't answer his question right away, but that's from a combo of laughing way too hard and being distracted by Ash trying not to retch in the middle of the bedroom floor.
"Oh my god! You put soy sauce in a cookie?! What is wrong with you Josh?!" She's up in a second and rushing to the garbage can near Josh's desk, and Chris is quick to join her in trying to spit everything out. "I'm never going to get this salt out of my mouth! Why would you even do that?!"
"Cause it's fucking hilarious that's why!" Josh is still laughing as he takes a look at the picture he took on the camera, and starts laughing harder. "Oh fucking hell, this was glorious. Oh wasting those two questions just for this picture was so worth it. Best decision I could have made!
"Now you two get your asses back over here! I spent hours on these cookies after all, and I am not letting them go to waste. We've got hours my friends, and so many questions and dares to get through."
Chris shares a look with Ashley over the garbage bin, both of them now obviously wondering if keeping their own secret had been worth having to eat those cookies, and if they still would have passed their turn knowing what exactly laid in store for them. While he certainly couldn't say a thing about her, Chris wasn't so sure if not kissing Ash and enduring all the fallout that would have resulted in was worth the terrible combination of vanilla and mayo in his mouth. He supposed he would never know, it was too late to simply retract his pass after all.
And well, he really didn't want to kiss Ash when she had just been tricked into eating a bunch of soy sauce.
You know, Ashley kind of figured that once she entered high school all of these stupid games would be done with. Surely high schoolers were too mature and too old to be playing childish games like spin-the-bottle or seven minutes in heaven? And yeah, obviously Chris and Josh weren't, but that was them and they were in a class all their own. But Hannah? And Sam and Beth? She would have thought that they were way too cool to be playing spin-the-bottle of all things, especially Beth.
And yet, here Ashley was: squeezed in between Matt and Sam as Matt spun the bottle around on the now extremely sticky hardwood floor. She wasn't stupid, she knew the entire reason the game was even being played in the first place; Hannah had been making eyes at Mike all through the evening and well into the game after all. She just didn't think that anyone else would have been stupid enough to go along with the game when Hannah suggested it.
(Ashley knew very well why she had reluctantly agreed to play, she just didn't know why anyone else did.)
Though to be fair, it didn't seem like the game was gonna last much longer anyway. Emily and Jess had started scrolling through their phones ages ago, showing each other whatever was on the other's screen every few minutes and the two of them laughing. Mike had been tapping a really off-rhythm beat on his jeans with the straw from his can of soda and staring into space, while Hannah stared lovesick at him . Beth was starting to doze on Sam's shoulder, not that either seemed too concerned about it, and Sam was nervously eyeing all the spilt pop and chips around them that they were gonna have to clean up before they went to bed. Unsurprisingly, Chris was also scrolling through his phone, snickering every now and then as Ashley felt her phone buzz in the pocket of her hoodie whenever he sent whatever it was that he found funny to her and Josh. Josh meanwhile, had joined Matt in building a rather shaky—if not impressive—tower out of discarded plastic cups, straws, and paper plates.
Ashley yawned behind her hand as the bottle slowed it's spin. She had been ready to drop out of the game a round or two back, but hadn't yet because she didn't want to deal with the others teasing her on being a sore loser who backs down the moment the bottle didn't land on the person she wanted it to. Which would lead to Chris asking who it was even though everyone else already knew who because it was glaringly obvious to everyone except him. The sound of the bottle stopping its spin managed to get everyone's attention as they looked at the neck of the bottle pointed squarely at Mike.
Everyone made the expected ' oooooooh ' and wolf whistles that everyone always did in this game, though quieter than they might have usually. Bob and Melinda were sleeping upstairs after all, and the last thing any of them wanted to do was wake them up and have them discover that despite it being nearly three in the morning, that the ten of them were still awake as the snow storm raged outside the lodge. Nonetheless, Matt and Mike both rolled their eyes and leaned over Josh who sat in the middle of them with a groan. Mike also didn't hesitate to take Matt's face into his hands and just plant one firmly on his mouth with no fanfare, other than the continued wolf whistles of course, and the two of them settled back down to their previous antics.
With that done, Ashley stared down nervously at the bottle. Once again, she felt the words stick in her throat. It would just be so easy to say "Oh man you guys, it's really late, I should really just go to bed" but let them die without a fight as she swallowed nervously and gave the bottle a hard flick. She knew exactly why she let the words die, and it wasn't solely because of what the others would say, though that was certainly a large part of it. No, it was because of the same glimmer of hope that sparked in her everytime it was her turn at this stupid game. That maybe this would be the time that the bottle would land on Chris, that she would finally get that kiss she's wanted for three years now.
She watches the bottle spin around the group, slowing its motion every full spin, and she notices that Chris has turned his attention away from his phone to watch it almost as nervously as she is. Which should probably make her question just why Chris is as just as invested on who it's gonna land on as she is, but she's kind of distracted right now by the fact that her heart is rapidly picking up pace in direct contrast to how much slower the bottle is getting. And feels it stop almost entirely when the bottle begins its last revolution and she knows. She knows . It's finally gonna land on Chris. All these years of playing this stupid, stupid game and it's finally happening.
Ashley's eyes shoot up to meet Chris's over the bottle, but that's also when the lodge suddenly plunges into darkness just before the bottle stops on him.
Immediately, the others are screaming next to her and the tower of cups and plates fall with a soft clatter.
"Oh my god! What the fuck was that?!"
"Holy fuck! Can you guys see anything?"
"Of course we can't see anything Michael!"
"It's probably just the storm you guys. Settle down."
"Can you guys please quiet down? My parents are sleeping and they're gonna kill us if they find out we're still awake."
Ashley isn't yelling though, because she's too busy screaming internally. There is no way that this is actually happening right now. There is no goddamn way. The bottle finally lands on Chris and the power goes out? Because of some stupid storm? She wanted to scream. She has half a mind to reach out and hold the bottle in place so there's proof of this when the power comes on, or to just jump over the distance and kiss Chris anyway. She knows exactly where he is after all, and he must have seen it land on him. He must have, right? It's that little second of uncertainty that decides for her, there's a sound as someone gets up and the flat 'thunk' as they accidentally kick the bottle across the room.
"Shit. My bad. You guys stay here, I'll go and check out the back-up generator in the basement. You coming, Cochise?"
Ashley can hear Chris awkwardly and quickly getting to his feet. "Um, y-yeah. Right behind you, bro."
The two of them walk away leaving Ashley to sit on the floor about to scream from the frustration of it all. And she does scream that it is, though not from almost having the perfect excuse to kiss Chris, but from someone touching her shoulder.
"Sorry, sorry!" Sam apologizes. "You were so quiet Ashley that I got nervous. I know that you're scared of the dark and I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
Oh, yeah. That's right. She was so preoccupied with the dark ruining what was almost going to be the highlight of her entire year , that she kind of forgot that it was, well, dark now. And once that realization hits her, so too does the fear that she's sitting in absolute darkness and can't see a single thing other than the lights being cast from everyone’s phones. That she has no idea what else—or who else—is out there. She frantically reaches out and wraps up Sam's arm in her own for a physical reminder that there is someone else she trusts in the darkness with her.
"Wait, you're scared of the dark Ash? Shit. Here, just give me a second." From next to her, Matt rustles in his jacket pocket and brings out his phone, turning it on and casting light around the room, and reflecting off the plastic bottle that Josh had accidentally kicked to the other side of the room. "Hope this helps a bit."
Ashley lets out a breath and a small smile. "Yeah, it does. Thanks Matt."
"No problem. Hey, I think I may have a funny video saved on here somewhere. Pretty sure I downloaded it so just give me a moment." He finds the video quickly enough, and while Ashley doesn't find it particularly as funny as he clearly did, she does appreciate the effort anyway.
Thankfully for everyone, the lights come back on soon enough. Though whether from the power coming back or the back-up generator activating, she isn't sure. It is enough to convince everyone that maybe it's time for bed though, and no one asks about her spin and who it landed on, which Ashley is both insulted for and thankful of in equal measure. Sam unfortunately reminds everyone of the mess they've all made of the great room though, and that they should all clean it up before Bob and Melinda wake up and find it, which Hannah and Beth eagerly echo, and so does Josh when he makes his way back up from the basement with scowling Chris in tow.
Thankfully, between the ten of them, the clean up takes very little time and they're all on their way back to their own rooms in record time, even if Ashley was too embarrassed to even look at Chris now. God, she couldn't believe that she had seriously considered jumping him! And for what? Just because some bottle told her to? Oh man, she never would have been able to live that down. She still spends more time then needed to get ready in the bathroom, and then laying in bed with her lamp on in the hopes that maybe Chris will knock on her door to confront her about the spin and ask for that kiss.
While the fact that he doesn't make an appearance doesn't surprise her, it's still a little depressing.
Chris is going to kill Josh. He is going to kill him . And he means it this time. Years spent watching Josh's horror shit and listening to Ash go on and on about her mystery novels should have given him a real edge actually. He can murder Josh violently in the way that the weirdo would probably like to go and then Ash can help him get rid of the body so that no one will ever know it was him. Easy.
You know, assuming Ashley is still gonna want to even associate with him after this.
"You feeling okay, Chris? You're starting to look a little red... and surly."
"Yup, I'm fine. Just peachy in fact." Chris takes another swig of the punch that has somehow not been spiked yet, and tries to plaster a smile on his face for her only to once again start looking over her shoulder. Not that there's anything interesting over her shoulder of course, unless one finds a group of football seniors trying to play a game of chicken in the middle of the dance hall interesting, but it's easier than looking straight at her. Not because she looks terrible of course—good god is that not the reason—but because she is way too fucking gorgeous for him to handle right now.
When Chris had decided to invite her to his and Josh's grad thing, it had just been a way for all three of them to hang out and enjoy their last year of high school together. School rules dictated after all that for some stupid reason, graduates weren't allowed to invite anyone who wasn't in school anymore so Ash wasn't going to be able to ask them to hers next year. Which was complete and utter bullshit of course, but that was beside the point. It was supposed to be a fun night... and then Chris's parents found out. And being the complete pain in the asses they are, they insisted that if Ash was going to this party with them, and it was a formal party, then they needed to make this proper. So against his wishes and leaving Chris wanting to die, they went and found out what colour of dress Ash was going to be wearing and got him not only a matching tie but a fucking corsage to go with it! The only thing that had made all of that even a little better, was that they had forced Josh to go along with it so at least he wouldn't be alone.
But then Josh had showed up not wearing his stupid tie and without the fucking flowers. And despite Chris's repeated protests that he didn't want to do the whole matching thing, especially if Josh wasn't doing it, his parents still made him do it anyway, saying all the while that 'it would make Ashley happy, you do want to make Ashley happy don't you?' And now here he was, sitting with Ashley at their table while she wore his stupid flowers on her wrist and his tie matched her green dress.
He hated how fucking obvious his crush was s0 much.
"...It's because of what everyone's been saying isn't it?"
At the dejected tone of her voice, Chris immediately snaps his full attention to her, leaving his glass of punch forgotten as he flaps his hands around in an effort to not reach out and grab at her hand. "What? No! God no! That isn't it I swear!"
Ashley sighs sadly as she looks glumly down at her lap. "It's fine Chris. I can understand if it's making you uncomfortable."
Chris takes one of his ineffectually flapping hands and makes to run it through his hair, before remembering the amount of gel he had put in it before coming and rubs at his eyes beneath his glasses. "I'm serious Ash, that's not it. I was honestly just thinking about the different ways I'm going to murder Josh when he gets back."
She laughs a little at that, and turns to look out into the direction of the buffet table, as though she'll be able to see Josh coming back with their food through the literal sea of people. "He has been gone a while hasn't he? He left like twenty minutes ago and he still isn't back. Do you think he even went to the buffet table in the first place?"
"He better have. Him coming back with food is probably about the only thing that's going to stop me from murdering him honestly."
Ashley laughs a little louder, and when she pushes a stray strand of hair that had come undone from her simply styled updo, Chris catches the while flowers on her wrist and feels his stomach flip pleasantly. "Any particular reason you want to kill Josh this time?"
"I mean, I have plenty but let's just be honest with ourselves here: do either of us ever need a reason to wanna kill Josh, Ash?"
And there it is, the surprised snort he was waiting for and that just made this entire evening a little more bearable. "God, you're not wrong." She follows his eye line to the corsage on her wrist and just like that all levity to the situation is gone as she hides her hands back in her lap under the table. "...you're sure that you're okay with what everyone is saying though?" she asks a little nervously.
Honestly? No, he isn't. Ever since the three of them walked into the party, everyone they had talked to right away had noticed the matching colours and the corsage and all comments had been the same. 'Fucking knew that there was something going on between you two' and 'Hey, it's about fucking time' or 'Always knew that you two would be good together'. It had been bad enough realizing that apparently almost everyone he had ever spoken to even a little bit had known of his super obvious feelings for his best friend, but the absolute worst thing had been the pained but polite smile that Ash had forced onto her face every single time.
"Honestly, I'm never going to see most of these people ever again once I graduate." He's avoiding the question, and he knows that she knows that he's avoiding the question. "But you're probably gonna have to deal with people brining this stupid thing up for the entire next year. Are you going to be okay?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine. It's not like this is something I don't deal with already." She says it with a little shrug and smile, but Chris can feel his heart sink anyway. How long has she had to deal with the bullshit that his stupid crush has caused her, and why had she never told him? It's way too late to try and fix things, but he can at least hopefully try and stop any further comments from coming, so he lets his fingers fly to his tie and starts to frantically undo it. "...What are you doing Chris?"
"Wondering why on earth I let my parents talk me into this. This is obviously making you uncomfortable and I should have taken this stupid thing off ages ago." His fingers keep catching on the knot and he lets out a fairly explicit curse under his breath.
Ashley's eyes go wide with realization. "Oh!" She instantly flips over her wrist and starts fumbling at the clasp of the corsage with her other hand and Chris finds that his heart has somehow managed to travel all the way from the bottom of his stomach straight into his throat. Abandoning his only partially undone tie, he lays his hand on hers to stop her.
"You don't have to do that." She's staring at their hands in wide-eyed shock, and his breath catches. "Not if you don't want to, that is. It-it looks good on you."
"Okay," she whispers softly, eyes still wide as her fingers leave her wrist, "I can leave it on."
"Only if you want to though." When the hell did his mouth get so dry?!
"I do," she looks up to him when she says it, and the earnestness of her smile bowls him over. "I really, really do." In an effort to try and distract himself from her smile, he starts fumbling at his tie once again and he catches her eyes flickering to it. Ashley's smile somehow only brightens as she laughs at him. "Here. Let me give you a hand with that."
She scoots her chair closer to him and he removes his hands from his tie so she can take over. The two of them say nothing as she places all of her attention on continuing to loosen the knot, while Chris tries his absolute hardest not to swallow...or breathe...or do anything at all really, as he just stares down at her in awe.
Once the knot is finally undone, Ashley slowly pulls the entire length of fabric from his neck and places it on the table, before putting her hands back where they were so she can carefully smooth out his shirt collar. And when she looks back up at him with a smile, he can feel the entire world stop as they just stare at each other and Chris slowly starts to close the infinitesimally small distance between them. And he's probably just imagining things, but he thinks that she's doing the same thing as well.
"Jesus Christ, sorry it took so long you guys. Line for the fucking food was longer then you would believe!"
The two of them fly apart so fiercely, that Chris's entire chair manages to tip over backwards and send him to the ground with a loud clatter. He can feel everyone's eyes on them and the murmurs that follow, and he hopes that they're mistaking the redness of his face for the embarrassment of falling out of his chair. Yeah, that's a story that's going to make the rounds before he graduates for sure.
"Shit, you okay bro?" From his spot on the floor, Chris watches Josh place a couple of plates absolutely piled high in food on the table and reach down to help him up with a laugh. "Oh hey, I see you finally decided to take off that stupid tie too. Surprised it took you this long honestly."
Chris accepts Josh's hand up. "Yup, me too." He hopes and prays that Josh just thinks that the absolutely breathless and stunted quality to his words is that he's just a little winded from the fall. Once he gets his chair back up and sits back down, he grabs at the tie to shove it in his pocket. He notices that Ashley is refusing to look at him as she digs out a couple of sandwiches from the miscellaneous pile of food, even as she fiddles with the strap of flowers on her wrist for the rest of the meal.
He's exceptionally thrilled to note that she does keep the corsage on the rest of the night though.
Five times. That's how many times her phone has gone off in her pocket. Five. Times. And every single time Ashley lets out a sigh of relief when the buzzing finally stops, it goes off again only seconds later. And checking the caller id the first couple of times only showed that it was Josh calling her. Normally Ashley liked to think that she would have answered her phone if it was literally anyone else, but this was Josh. He called for every little thing after all; from letting her know that he saw a super big dog on the way home from classes to informing her that he was out of chips and if Ash could pick some up on her way to meet them from her job then that would really just be swell. And considering that he and Chris were supposed to meet her and grab a bite to eat together while she was on her lunch break, he was probably just calling to let her know that they had just left, and to make a milestone out of every block closer the two of them got so she could greet them with all the pomp and circumstance he likely thought he deserved.
Though to be fair she probably would have answered her phone after the third ring, if only to tell him off, but Jared had been giving her a stink eye from his office pretty much since she had arrived so she hadn't.
So she let it buzz...and buzz...and buzz. Until finally, her phone stopped yet again and she tensed her shoulders ready for the next round of vibrations to start. But there was nothing. Nothing but blissful silence coming from her pocket and she let out a huge sigh of relief as Ashley got back to work shelving some of the new stock, letting Kyrstin and Curtis deal with the short line of customers that had begun to form as they bought their books and whatever little trinkets littered the entire front of the store.
She hoped Chris and Josh got here soon, she was overdue for her lunch break and the smells coming out of the nearby food court were calling her name. Particularly the chinese place, she had been craving them for the last week at least . Plus, Jared had been raking her over coals about how her availability was going to drop dramatically once she started college in the next couple of weeks, and one of the creepy regulars had followed her around the store for-freaking- ever (she's pretty sure he had been staring at her ass the whole time too honestly) until Curtis had basically shoved her into the back room to let her escape while he covered for her. And surprise surprise, Jared hadn't been too thrilled about her 'abandoning her post' and yelled at her about that too.
Whoever said that working in a bookstore was a lazy job where she got to read books in her free time was a dirty, rotten liar. It was hell on earth and she was going to slowly tear the fingernails off whoever it was that said it (even though she had a sinking feeling it had probably be Ashley herself that said it back when she romanticized working in bookstores when she was, like, ten ). God, she really really needed that Chinese if she had any plans of surviving the last four hours of her shift.
The phone at the front desk behind her begins to ring, but a quick backwards glance has her realizing that with poor Curtis trying to deal with an older woman who is adamant that the book he's trying to sell her is the wrong one because she is 'positive that the book had a light purple cover and this one is lavender, that is two different colours and I want the right book now ' and Kyrstin being forced to deal with the rest of the line herself, that Ashley's the one who's going to have to answer the phone. With a groan of resignation (she hated answering the phone at work but Jared was in a horrendous enough mood as it was), she stood up and made her way over, repeating the greeting she was going to have to say over and over in her head so she (hopefully) wouldn't mess it up. And taking a deep breath, and repeating the greeting once more in her head, she forced a smile to her face as she picked up the handset.
"Hi! Thanks for calling—"
"Fucking finally Ash."
In an instant, Ashley could feel every ounce of nervous energy violently expel from her body as she nearly doubled over with another groan, this one entirely of exhaustion. She took quick glance over her shoulder, but Jared seemed to busy with another phone call in his office thankfully. "What are you doing Josh?!" she whispered angrily, "I'm at work right now you moron!"
"Uh yeah, I know. Why do you think I called you using this number?"
Ashley gave Kyrstin an apologetic and pained smile when she looked at her curiously, who responded with a good-natured shake of her head and a laugh under her breath as she turned to help the next customer. "Well, you didn't have to call here."
"Kinda did, Ash. You kept ignoring me."
"I was ignoring your calls you butt, you could have just texted me instead you know."
"Hmmm, no. Anyways I tried calling to tell you that Chris and I might not be able to meet up with you for lunch."
Ashley felt disappointment flood her entire being. "Oh. I see. But you really could have just—"
"We're at the hospital while Chris gets some x-rays done."
Immediately any disappointment fled her body as Ashley all but collapsed on the counter for support as her legs gave out on her. "Is he okay?! Oh god, is he okay Josh?!"
There's a pause on the phone and all Ashley can hear is her own blood pounding in her ears. He has to be okay. He has to be, he just has to be!
"I dunno, it was a pretty gnarly fall. Don't know if he'll ever truly recover, there was a lot of screaming after all."
Ashley doesn't even respond as she slams down the phone and turns to Kyrstin and Curtis who are looking at her in shock as her entire world falls to pieces around her. "I-I have to go. Chris is... Chris is..." she can't get anymore out with how it feels like someone is ripping her heart out of her chest. "Josh said he's in the hospital and...and..."
Curtis nods quickly as he runs to the staff room, and Kyrstin just starts shoving her towards the door as they all ignore the customers who are standing around awkwardly. "Go. We got this."
Ashley turns her head towards Jared's office. "But I gotta—and, and I need to grab my stuff—
"Nope. You go. Curtis and I will figure something out, and Becks arrives for her shift in another half hour. We can manage just fine until then. You just get out of here right now."
Ashley doesn't try to fight anymore than that, not with how hard she's fighting to hold back breaking down in the middle of the store after all. Curtis meets her at the entrance with her bag and shoves it into her arms. "Do you need me to call you a taxi, or give you a ride, or anything? Kyrstin can drag Jared out of his cave if she's gotta." Next to him, Kyrstin nods furiously in agreement.
Ashley has never loved anyone as much as she loves her coworkers in this instant. "No, my-my mom gave me the car for today."
With that little bit of approval, and a random customer shouting ‘I hope he's okay hun!’ at her, the two of them shove Ashley into the mall itself and the very instant she crosses that threshold she takes off running, shoving her way through people and nearly falling down the stairs in her effort to get to the parking lot as quickly as she can. She is so, so glad that her mom basically forced the car on her today instead of letting her take the bus as originally planned, she doesn't know how she would have lasted if she'd had to wait for a taxi to arrive and pick her up.
As it is, once she's finally (and somehow safely) managed to arrive at the hospital and found a spot to park, she's nonplussed about the fact that she didn't leave any imprints in the steering wheel from how hard she had been gripping it the whole drive over. She fumbles with the clasp on her seatbelt with shaking hands, almost bursting into tears about that fact alone, but she eventually manages to free herself and basically throws herself out of the car, only remembering to lock the door behind her when she's about halfway to the hospital doors.
The moment she bursts into the waiting room, Josh is sitting there waiting for her. He looks up at her in surprise as she hurries towards him, then down at his phone and back up at her again as he gives a low whistle. "Shit Ash, how many laws did you break to get here that fast?"
She ignores him. "What happened?! How is he?! Just tell me he's okay! Please, please tell me he's okay!"
"I mean, I suppose he's as fine as he could be considering the circumstances." He seems to sense that she's about ready to scream at him so he quickly follows up with "He's on the second floor, in room 272 if you want to see him."
Ashley doesn't even bother to thank him as she bolts to the nearby elevator, frantically pushing the 'Call Elevator' button nonstop until the door opens and then doing the same thing to the second floor button as it carries her up. Her eyes are burning in an effort to hold back her tears but she can tell that the dam is about to burst any second, especially with how long this elevator is taking to move. She doesn't even wait for the doors to open fully, squeezing through them the moment they're wide enough and accosting some poor nurse until he points her down the correct hall. She hurries the rest of the way, staring at every number on the wall until she finds room 272. And then she stops, her hand on the door knob as she braces herself for whatever she's going to find. Chris lying in bed, covered in blood and bandages with a heart monitor beeping next to him, just broken and shattered beyond all repair. With a choked back sob she opens the door—
and finds Chris sitting on the bed looking up at the ceiling bored to tears with a splint wrapped around his pinky and ring finger on his right hand.
"Finally! I thought you would never get here, so if we could just get this over with—" he looks over at her standing in the doorway shell shocked and still in her work uniform and jumps to his feet. "A-Ash?! What the hell are you doing here— Wait, did you just come here straight from work?! "
"You're okay?" Ashley hates how small her voice comes out, "You're really okay?"
"What? Yeah, why wouldn't I be? Who told you—"
Spell broken, Ashley’s bag falls from her shoulder to the ground with a small clatter and she dives towards Chris, wrapping him in a tight hug. "Oh thank god. Oh thank god. " Chris starts to return the hug, likely more than a little confused about what's going on, but she's already moved so her hands are on either side of his face as she tugs him down to her level so she can get a better look at him. Twisting and turning his head this way and that as she looks for any bruises or cuts. "Josh told me that there had been an accident and—"
"Ash!" Chris interrupts her by taking her wrists in his hands—though he winces at the pain that likely forms as a result of doing so—and speaks as calmly and reassuringly to her as he can. "Ash, it's okay. I'm fine . I promise. I just tripped earlier that's all."
Ashley takes in the sight of the scuffed up palms of his hands, and the holes in the knees of his jeans that certainly hadn't been there before, and knows that Chris is telling the truth. Though it doesn't explain the splint on his hand.
"Okay, and I might have broken my finger doing so."
Ashley just stands there so dumbfounded and relieved in equal measure, that she blurts out "Josh said that there had been screaming."
To her surprise, Chris only gives an embarrassed groan as he stares at an area just over her shoulder "God, Josh is never gonna let me live that down is he? Okay, so my finger may not have been the only thing that broke..." Confused, mainly because except for the bandaged finger and ripped jeans he seems perfectly okay, Ashley looks over her shoulder and follows his eyes to his phone laying on the counter just behind her. The screen completely shattered to hell and back with no promise of life anywhere on it. Just the dead, black screen reflecting the ceiling above on its cracked surface
"Wait," Ashley starts to feel the relieved giggles try to break free as her nerves finally settle, "are you telling me that you broke your finger but you were more worried about your phone? "
Chris sputters as he starts to wave his splinted finger infront of her face. "I mean obviously! This doesn't cost me any money to fix Ash; that's what health care's for! But my phone? Do you know how expensive that thing's going to be to replace? How many paychecks I'm going to have to put towards it? All the money I saved up this summer for school: gone! All because of a stupid little sidewalk curb!"
Ashley can't help it, she starts laughing uncontrollably as she collapses into a nearby chair with her head in her hands. "Oh, I am going to kill Josh when I see him, kill him! And then Jared's gonna kill me for bailing at work and not telling him! God, and I just left in the middle of a rush too! Remind me to buy Kyrstin and Curtis a cake or flowers or something as an apology. Oh my god ."
"You just ditched work? Ash!" Chris falls back onto the bed as he laughs with her. "Why would you even do that in the first place?!"
"Josh told me that you were in the hospital getting x-rays! What was I supposed to think?"
Chris rubs at his eyes beneath his glasses. "I asked him to let you know that we were probably gonna be a little late for lunch while I waited to get my cast! Fucking hell, I'm so sorry."
"Am I interrupting anything or..."
The two of them turn to see a doctor looking up at them with an upturned brow, and holding what Ashley assumes (and hopes) to be the materials needed for Chris's cast. "This is Chris Hartley's room correct?"
"Oh, uh, yeah. That's me."
The doctor nods, and walks towards Chris, but stops in front of the chair Ashley is sitting in. "I'm sorry, but I will be needing that chair sweetheart." With a squeak of apology, Ashley jumps out the chair and moves back by the door so fast that she's almost certain that she had managed to teleport over there, almost tripping over her forgotten bag in the process. Red-faced, she picks it back up and goes to leave (and possibly strangle Josh violently) but is stopped by the same doctor as she sits down in the chair with a chuckle, shaking her head. "You don't have to leave if you don't want to. It'll only take a couple of minutes to get this cast on and then he'll be free to leave with you."
Now even more red-faced (if that was even possible), Ashley just slowly shuffles over to the table where Chris's (broken) phone and wallet is, nervously fidgeting with the strap of her bag as she waits for Chris to get the cast on. Taking Chris's hand in her own, the doctor—Dr. Klorens her name tag reads—scowls at the now slightly bent fingers in the splint, which Chris only gives a sheepish shrug and smile to, and sighs as she unwraps his fingers so she can reset the splint. And Ashley blanches at the deep, dark bruises that spread all the way from the middle of his pinky to nearly halfway down his palm that she had completely failed to notice earlier before those are once again lost.
And as promised, once the Dr. Klorens has put the cotton sleeve over his hand and trimmed it to the desired length, it only takes her another couple of minutes to wrap starting from the center of his forearm and all the way up to the center of his palm and then finally finishing with his splinted fingers. As the three of them wait for the fibreglass material to dry, Dr. Klorens goes over the do's and don'ts of cast care, which Ashley takes serious note of because she knows that Chris won't. Especially the 'do NOT get the cast wet' part, he's gonna forget about that one the moment Josh tries to bait him into another water gun fight.
"Alright, I think that's about it. Just come back in three weeks so we can do another x-ray to check and make sure that the bone's all healed up before we remove it. Just let someone know that you're done with the room when you leave, and remember to check out at the front desk." She gathers up her supplies and makes to leave, but stops to look over her shoulder at them with an amused smile on her face. "Oh, and if you two take the stairs, just make sure that you're careful. I know that we're in a hospital already, but I don't think any of us want to deal with any more tripping instances. Especially if they result in another broken bone." After waiting for Chris and Ashley to meekly agree to be careful, she finally leaves the two of them alone once again.
"Welp, that's it for my summer. 'Fraid I'm nothing but a cripple now."
Sighing, Ashley turns to Chris with a tired smile. "You are not a cripple, oh my god. You have a broken finger, you didn't lose the entire arm you dork."
Incensed, Chris waves his cast at her. "Um, do you not see this thing Ash? I may as well have. I've lost the use of two of my fingers now! Two! And on my right hand to boot. I can't hold a controller to play games with, I can't type, I can't text. What am I supposed to do Ash if I can't hold a single thing in my dominant hand anymore?"
"I'm sure you'll manage," she dryly responds. "Now come on, let's get out of here. I have to figure out how in the world I'm going to explain this to Jared so he doesn't fire me."
"Pretty sure that you should just let him if you ask me."
Ashley groans in agreement, but says "It's only another couple of weeks until college starts. Just hoping I can hold out until then, I need the money after all."
Chris lets out a resigned breath but then starts eyeing her work apron. "You got a sharpie in there?"
"Um, I think so. Why?"
"Uh, so you can sign my cast, duh. You missed out when I broke my arm when I was like nine, so you can be the first to get your name on this one."
"Trying to weasel my autograph out of me huh?" Ashley asks even as she digs through one of her pockets to pull out the sharpie in question, and joins Chris to sit next to him on the bed.
Chris laughs. "Damn, you figured out my devious plan. Thing’s gonna be worth a fortune when you make it onto the bestsellers list one day. Gonna be fighting off all sorts of crazed and fanatic fans."
Ashley shakes her head as she chuckles and writes her name on his arm, but pauses when she caps the pen. Seeing her name on his cast suddenly pulls everything back into vivid clarity, and she remembers the panic she had felt when she had thought—when she had believed —that she had nearly lost him. That this was it, that he was here one day and gone the next, and she hadn't even told him how much he meant to her. How important he was to her. She watches as a drop of water splashes down onto the cast and she finds herself wondering if there's a leak in a room upstairs.
"What the—Ash? Are you crying?"
"Huh?" She wipes her eyes, and a surprised but weak laugh escapes when her hand comes away wet. "Oh, I guess I am. Sorry about that, you're supposed to keep the cast dry and here I am crying—"
Chris places his left hand on her cheek to help wipe away some of her tears. "Oh fuck, I really freaked you out didn't I? Fucking hell. I'm—"
"Do you promise not to hate me?"
The look Chris gives her is nothing short of bamboozled. "Hate you? Ash, what's going on with you?"
"Do you promise not to hate me? Please Chris, I really, really need you to promise me this. Please . Do you promise not to hate me?" She’s fully aware that she’s practically begging right now, silent tears flowing down her cheeks, but if it gets Chris to promise then she’ll gladly throw away her pride for this one thing.
"Yeah, I-I promise. Will you just—"
Ashley doesn't give him anytime to finish his sentence before she's squeezing her eyes shut and she surges up to kiss him. She doesn't want to see his expression, not when all she wants is just to remember everything else that is happening. Remember the feel of his lips before he pulls away, and the warmth of his hand on her cheek. In fact, she spends so much time trying to memorize what she is sure is only going to be a single shared kiss, that it takes her a few seconds longer than she would like to admit to realize that Chris's hand isn't on her cheek anymore, it's moved to the back of her neck so he can kiss her back . The shock of which is enough for her to break the kiss and stare at him with wide eyes.
"Wh—" that's all she can get out before Chris is pulling her back in for a second kiss, and this time she lets her eyelids flutter close as she completely melts into, throwing her arms around his neck to hold him closer.
Ashley's not sure how long they stay like that—could have been an eternity, could have only been a couple of seconds—before they're both pulling back with their faces flushed and giggling like morons.
"Wow," Chris says after a moment, "I don't know what made you think I could hate you after that , but wow . If I had known that this would be the reaction I get, I would have broken my finger years ago."
There's something about the way he says it that has Ashley's heart beating even faster. "How long?" she demands breathlessly, "Tell how long ago?"
Somehow, Chris manages to flush even deeper. "I dunno, like... six? I guess?"
Six years. He'd had a crush on her for six years and she'd had no idea. The moment the realization hits her she starts laughing. "I knew you were trying to ask me for a kiss back in seventh grade! I should have just chased you down and given you one anyway!"
This time, it's Chris who starts laughing at the realization. "Wait, you liked me too?! Then that kiss, back in the library...?"
"You still remember that?!"
"Remember it? Ash, that stupid little cheek kiss is the only reason I passed that final I'm sure! Hell, why else do you think Josh dared me to kiss you in truth and dare?"
"What? No he didn't!"
Chris shakes his head as he moves his hand from her neck to around her waist. "He did! He told me to 'return the favour' and all I had been thinking about that summer was kissing you back. Fucking hell, I almost killed him when he pulled me away to get that generator working that winter in the lodge."
"Oh my god, I almost jumped across the floor to you that night when the power went out after the bottle landed on you."
"You didn't!"
Chris sounded so scandalized at the idea that Ashley presses her forehead to his as her smile widens, which only causes his own to widen in turn. "I did! But then Josh pulled you away and I just completely lost my nerve." She starts laughing at the next memory. "Oh god, I kept my lamp on in my room after that hoping you would stop by if you thought I was still awake."
The answering gape in shock was all she needed before she broke into more giggles. "I saw that! I don't know how long I hovered outside your door trying to work up the courage to knock before talking myself out of it. I think I just convinced myself that the outage had freaked you out badly enough that you needed the extra light to get to sleep."
Once the giggles started to lessen, the smiles on their faces did so as well, softening to something warmer and infinitely more cozy. "I almost kissed you, you know," Ashley confessed shyly. "Back at your grad party."
"Yeah, I-I almost kissed you too. And, just so you know, I wasn't lying then. The flowers looked really really good on you."
"That's good to hear," she admits as she leans in closer, her lips brushing his so lightly it's almost a caress, "I kept them, after all."
Nothing more is said as Chris closes the distance between them again to kiss her, and even though she knows that they really should get back downstairs, she doesn't try to stop it.
They have a long six years to make up for after all.

Prom Night!

Shoutout to @krdnvrs for being my number one fan and cheerleader on all of my random ideas, and for listening to me complain. Another thanks to @red-cape-morgana for being my glorified cheerleader ;)
They were in Midvale, working a case, when it happened.
Somehow Lex managed to lace the water supply with kryptonite, the team got wind of it, and so they went to investigate.
Lena, now an integral part of the team, tagged along.
Alex, J’onn, Brainy, and Nia went first to make sure everyone was safe and that the kryptonite wouldn’t harm anyone, while also checking to see what kind of kryptonite it was and how it would affect Kara.
Kara and Lena are staying back at the town line. Waiting patiently. Some more than others.
“Will you please stop pacing? You’re stressing me out,” Lena rubs at her temples.
Kara stops mid-step, skidding on the loose gravel, and sighs. “I’m sorry. I’m just really anxious right now, and I’m scared of what they might find. I mean, what if—Eliza lives here! I can’t just—
“Hey,” Lena interrupts by placing both hands on Kara’s forearms. “It’ll be fine. Eliza isn’t even here. She’s out of town, remember?”
Kara lets out a deep breath and nods.
“Can I—Kara, can I give you a hug?” she asks, timidly. Lena won’t openly admit it, but Kara’s the only one she openly and freely gives hugs to. Anyone else and it’s touch and go.
Kara smiles, “Duh! You don’t even have to ask, you know that.” She wrangles her arms out from Lena’s hands and wraps her own around the CEO’s shoulders, burying her face in raven hair.
Lena grips her hands tightly around the hero’s back and inhales deeply, the sweet smell of honey and lavender from the blonde's shampoo, and the hint of earth which makes Kara, Kara.
The moment was quickly disrupted by a chirping in Kara’s ear. She steps back slightly so one arm is still resting on Lena’s shoulders while the other presses the comm. “Alex?”
Lena is moderately perturbed at Alex in this moment, but doesn’t let it show. Instead, she loosens her grip and slides her hands to rest on Kara’s hips, giving them a reassuring squeeze.
“You guys should head into town,” Alex supplies.
“What is it?” Kara asks while absentmindedly playing with Lena’s hair.
“Everything’s fine, but you’re gonna wanna see this for yourself.”
Kara frowns. “Okay, we’ll be there shortly.” She clears her throat and Lena eyes her warily.
“So?” Lena steps back and crosses her arms in front of her chest.
“Alex says she has something to show us,” Kara replies. “So,” she moved her arms in a swooping gesture, “Ready to go?”
Lena shakes her head. “No. We are not flying there.”
“Suit yourself,” Kara laughs and begins to take off. Lena stops her with a hand on the wrist before she can. “Change your mind?”
“Just promise to go slow,” Lena huffs, giving Kara permission to scoop her up bridal style.
“Yes, ma’am,” she smirks.
___
“Blue kryptonite?”
Alex nods.
“What is his endgame?”
Alex puffs her cheeks up and releases hot air. “It seems he wants to get rid of your powers. And apparently he thought starting here would be the best course of action, knowing you grew up here and you’d come this way. Fool proof plan, really.” A sudden serious look clouds over her. "And I have a feeling this is only the first step in his nefarious plans."
Kara groans, "Well, is everyone okay at least?" She puts her hands on her hips, in the classic hero pose.
"As far as we know, it doesn't have any negative effects on humans. In fact, we think it does the opposite."
"Of course!" Lena interjects from her spot. She's stayed quiet and let the sisters discuss things, until now she remembers information that could help.
"Lena?" Kara raises her eyebrows in question.
"When Lex was researching ways to hurt Superman, he discovered blue kryptonite," she rolls her eyes. "Blue kryptonite can drastically improve the health of any non-Kryptonian organism, such as livestock, crops, and humans. Continual consumption of blue kryptonite-irradiated water puts humans in a perfect state of health. I'm almost positive he's been drinking the stuff for years."
"Well, fuck," Alex huffs.
Lena shakes her head. "I wouldn't worry about it too much. It doesn't make him super-powered or anything. Actually, now that I think about it, the blue rock makes humans more prone to mental irregularities. If that's the case, it would explain a lot."
"Is there a way to counteract it?" Kara asks.
Lena sighs. "If I'm hypothesizing correctly, I'd bet my life on lead getting the job done."
Kara nods and looks to Alex. "Okay. You got all the rock bagged up then?" Alex nods. "How long until the water supply is back to normal?"
"A week? Maybe two. Just don't go drinking the water at mom's house, got it?"
"I'll stick to bottled," Kara smirks.
___
As they’re flying to Eliza's later that night, Kara notices her old high school is bustling with people and everyone is gussied up. She gasps loudly in Lena’s ear. “Lena, look!”
“What?”
“It’s prom night!” she slows down and finds a spot behind some bushes for cover. Once grounded she practically beams. “Let’s break in!"
Lena guffaws.
Kara stares at her with a gleaming twinkle in her eyes.
“Are you serious?” She asks incredulously.
Kara nods furiously like a bobble head. “Yeah, totally! I remember you telling me once how you never went to prom, and then I promised you if the opportunity ever arises I’d take you myself. And I'd dance with you.”
“You said no such thing,” Lena states, highly amused.
“Okay, well," Kara visibly flusters, "Maybe I never said that part out loud, but I still thought it in my head. And...I mean it.”
“Kara, that’s very sweet, but look at us,” she gestures between them, “I’m dressed like I’m ready for a board meeting, and you,” she glances around to make sure no one can see or hear them and whispers, “You’re Supergirl.”
Kara looks down and pouts, “Oh. Right.” It doesn’t keep her down for long though, because she speeds away and comes back in a dress before Lena can even blink.
“Wow. Don’t think I’ll ever get used to that,” Lena chuckles. “You didn’t think to grab anything for me?”
The hero frowns while looking Lena up and down with an intense gaze, causing Lena to feel immensely self-conscious. With a finger to her chin Kara says, “I think you look perfect. You’re basically wearing a suit, anyway, just one that probably costs more than anyone in that building can afford.”
Lena raises her eyebrows haughtily.
“Shall we?” Kara holds out her arm.
Lena rolls her eyes fondly, before relaxing, and hooks her arm through the blonde’s. “Alright, MacGyver, how are we doing this?”
“Easy,” Kara shrugs. “I’ll just open the door to the gym with my super strength, and sneak in the back. Piece of cake.”
“Famous last words.”
___
“Ha! Told you we could do it!” Kara exclaims as they make their way through the gym, where fairy lights are strewn about everywhere, and the ceiling is decorated with cheesy cotton drapes. Surprisingly, no one even notices the two women, and if they do they don’t care.
“The night is still young,” Lena points out.
“Oh quit being a downer,” Kara teases. As they find a secluded spot in the corner, a slow song starts to play. The lights cast a glow on Lena making her seem ethereal, and Kara gapes in awe.
"You look beautiful, Lena."
"I could say the same for you," she blushes.
“May I have this dance?” Kara playfully bends forward with one hand outstretched.
“You’re such a goober,” Lena laughs and takes her hand.
They slow dance for a while, the heat between them hanging in the air. As soon as Kara thinks about asking Lena the question that's been niggling her for the past few months, she notices a man poking around in the corner of her eye. He makes eye contact with her and begins making his way toward them. Kara panics.
“There’s a man coming our way. What do we do? He’s probably gonna kick us out!”
“Shit, I don’t know! This was your idea!” Lena hisses.
Kara thinks fast and makes a decision. A decision she never thought would happen, here in Midvale, in her high school gymnasium of all places. A decision that will inevitably change their lives forever.
“Do you trust me?”
“With my life,” Lena answers immediately, with a wistful smile plastered on her face.
Kara nods and takes a moment to compose herself. Just a tiny moment. Because they’re kind of running out of time here. Before she can second-guess herself, she takes Lena’s face in her hands and kisses her.
She kisses her like her life depends on it. She’s waited for this moment for so long and it’s finally here. At a high school prom she wasn't even invited to. The thought makes her want to laugh. But she can't, because she's kissing Lena. And Lena is kissing her back with just as much ferocity! It’s funny, she never imagined she’d be back here, years later, with the prettiest woman in the universe at her side, yet that’s what was in the cards for her.
When what feels like minutes of absolute heaven go by, Kara pulls back slightly, breathing heavy. She slowly opens her eyes and whispers, “Do you think it worked?”
“Excuse me?”
The voice startles them from their little bubble and makes the women jump apart in surprise.
"Gosh, you scared the crap outta me," Kara shudders, clutching at her heart. She gathers her wits and when she sees the man, realization slowly dawns on her. "Kenny?"
The man, presumably Kenny, frowns. "I'm sorry, do we know each other?"
"It's Kara. Kara Danvers!" she smiles with hesitancy. The gears in Kenny's head start turning and he puts his hands on his head in utter bewilderment.
"Kara!"
Being the tactile person she is, Kara envelops him in a bone crushing hug. When they pull back she asks, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm the principal," he replies bashfully. Kenny smirks and tilts his head. "What are you doing here?"
Kara blushes a deep red and clears her throat. "Um, well...I'm just visiting, actually." She adjusts her glasses awkwardly. "You know, see how everyone's doing since I left..."
"And who's this?" Kenny asks, peering behind her, effectively cutting off the inevitable ramble about to happen.
The blonde swallows. "Oh geez, where are my manners?" she bonks herself on the head and turns to Lena. Kara gently pushes her forward by the small of her back, and rests her hand there. "Lena, this is my friend Kenny from high school. Kenny, this is my....Lena..."
Lena chuckles and holds out her hand. “Lena Luthor. Nice to meet you.” His grip is firm when they shake hands.
“Pleasure’s all mine,” he replies.
Kara grins after seeing her former (dead?) best friend meet her current best friend (maybe more?) chat with one another.
She explains why they’re there and that they essentially snuck in.
“I won’t tell a soul. You have my word,” Kenny winks at them. “Keep in touch, yeah?” Kara nods enthusiastically, and gives him one last hug before departing to the other end of the gym, where he sees a student spiking the punch bowl.
"So..." Lena starts, "That's the Kenny you told me about?"
Lena notices Kara's eyes crinkle and one corner of her mouth lifts up, in that cute way it does when she's thinking deeply about something. "Yeah. He died though, in my timeline." She frowns, and her eyes dart around the floor like the cracks and scratches have all the answers. "This whole universe...reset...thing is mind-boggling."
Lena reaches up and rubs softly at Kara's little crinkle with the pad of her thumb. When it disappears, she drops her hand and plays with the blonde's fingers instead. "Nothing's ever easy in our lives, is it?"
Kara hums an affirmation in response.
"You can tell me about it, if you'd like," Lena offers.
"That'd be nice," Kara smiles, then like a flip of a switch she's throwing her a flirty smirk. "But not right now," she joins their other hands together and pushes them forward and back, as if they're on the cusp of telling each other exciting news.
"No?" Lena plays along.
"Nope," she raises their hands up so Lena's rest on her shoulders, and Kara pulls her forward by the waist. "I was kinda hoping we could talk about that kiss."
"Mhmm, I was wondering if you were gonna bring that up," she inches closer so her forehead touches Kara's, and she encircles her arms around her neck, the distance between them practically nonexistent.
"I should've asked," she connects her hands on the other woman's back.
Lena shakes her head, the action causing their noses to bump. "You never have to ask to kiss me." Before Kara can properly respond, Lena connects their lips together again, shutting her up in the best way possible.
They still have a lot of things to figure out, a lot of demons to fight-both literally and figuratively-but Lena relishes in the thought that at least she has Kara.
At least they're doing it together.
After all, it is their life motto: stronger together.

Taste of a Poison Paradise, Chapter 8 (Multi) - Joley
Chapter Summary: Things seem to be going well for Lemon until they go really bad really fast. Things are actually going well for Jackie and Jaida.
ao3 link
——
I’m living for the only thing I know I’m running and not quite sure where to go And I don’t know what I’m diving into Just hanging by a moment here with you
Normally, Priyanka would roll her eyes at this sort of song, at the cheesy love in the lyrics. But with her only alternative being actively participating in shopping for a wedding dress, she listened to the music and let it resonate.
Desperate for changing Starving for truth I’m closer to where I started I’m chasing after you
She winced but blamed it on accidentally being stuck with a pin.
——
——

@febuwhump day 12 who are you
the world minus one
summary
“Who the hell are you?”
“Agent Woo,” he says.
“Ha,” says Peter. He grins. “That rhymed.”
“I’ve been assigned to oversee your home detainment,” he tells him, flashing his card as if he were a magician, and they were at a magic show, instead of the most boring place on planet earth
OR
Agent Jimmy Woo is assigned to oversee Peter's house arrest post far from home, and Peter's eyes see probation officer but his brain screams FRIEND.
Peter considers chopping his foot off.
Did he really need two feet? Maybe Mr. Stark could fashion him a prosthetic like he did for his own Infinity Gauntlet damaged arm, or maybe Peter could spend one of his annoyingly long days trapped inside this apartment figuring out how to do it himself.
He’s exiled to a much larger apartment than the one he and May share in Queens, but somehow, it still manages to be cramped and suffocating, as if the air there was thick and might smother him before the boredom drove him up the walls.
That is if his ankle monitor doesn’t choke the life out of him first.
He pulls at it, itching at it from his place sitting in the middle of the living room floor, when the doorbell rings and Peter stops, he frowns. Mr. Stark isn’t expected to visit him today, and May isn’t due for dinner until a couple of hours.
With a sigh, he stands and walks across his apartment. He opens the door to an unfamiliar face wearing a familiar and unwelcome FBI jacket.
“Who the hell are you?”
“Agent Woo,” he says.
“Ha,” says Peter. He grins. “That rhymed.”
“I’ve been assigned to oversee your home detainment,” he tells him, flashing his card as if he were a magician, and they were at a magic show, instead of the most boring place on planet earth.
It’s an awkward moment. Him just standing there, in the hall, and Peter basks in his ability to make a Fed sweat.
“Aren’t you going to invite me in?”
“Are you a vampire?”
“...I’m sorry?”
“Vampires,” sighes Peter. “They have to be let in. Feds usually don’t wait for an invitation. Not used to one having manners.”
Peter walks away from the door, leaving it open, and hoping that’s enough of an invitation. It isn’t like he has a choice anyway.
Agent Woo shuts the door behind him, and something stabs at Peter. He’s being rude. His aunt taught him better than that, and there’s something about Agent Woo that Peter decides he likes. The magic trick, maybe.
Peter offers him coffee. Agent Woo looks over at the kitchen, which is admittedly a disaster zone, and politely declines.
“So, what’s your job?” asks Peter. He clears a space off of the dining room table for them to both sit down. “Making sure I’m not staging an escape attempt?”
“Basically, I’ll be dropping by from time to time, to ensure you’re behaving yourself,” says Agent Woo. “Tony Stark did bribe me to harass you about your online classes and that’s not typically part of my job description, I need the money for my children’s college -”
“-you have kids?”
“Not yet, but I plan to, and with the way the economy is-” Agent Woo pauses. “We’re really supposed to be talking about you.”
“I’m behaving myself,” says Peter. “I’m attending my online classes, and I’ve got no plans to take up a new identity and flee the country. Now back to you. Anyone special you’re planning on having these kids with? I need all the details.”
It’s true. He does.
There isn’t much entertainment in his life what with being locked up in an apartment, spending most of his days alone. It’s for May’s safety that they aren’t able to live together during his house arrest, during the massively long stretch of time before his trial, but that doesn’t mean Peter likes it.
Agent Woo spills something about a doctor before pausing a second time and getting back on track. He recites the same information Peter’s heard before. It’s really boring and a waste of time, but Peter supposes he’s got lots of it to waste, anyway.
“Any questions for me?” Agent Woo asks, once he’s finished with his spiel.
“Can you show me how to do that magic trick?”
“Maybe another time,” he tells him, then looks around. “You know, a lot of people in your situation find it helps to form a routine and create a clean living space. Waking up in the morning, showering, putting on normal clothes.”
Peter frowns at the sudden callout. “Who says pajamas aren’t normal?”
“Just offering some friendly advice.”
He stands, and heads for the door, telling him he’ll be by in a couple of weeks, when Peter feels the throbbing near his ankle.
“Agent Woo,” says Peter, before he gets to the door. “You wouldn’t, um, know how to loosen the ankle monitor? I may have been what Mr. Stark fondly refers to as tactless with the agent who put it on and they may have retaliated just a little bit.”
So, Agent Woo loosens the ankle monitor, and Peter, once he’s alone in the apartment, collapses on his couch and decides that he and Agent Woo are going to be friends, despite the unsolicited advice.
*
Peter’s prepared the next time Agent Woo visits.
Coffee is going, the apartment is clean, and he’s got five packs of playing cards laid out on the kitchen table. It had been a lot of whining on his part to convince Mr. Stark to drop everything and run to the store and buy them, but this is an emergency. A magic emergency.
He’s also ordered a pizza, and it arrives just as Agent Woo starts his regular round of checkup, interrogation questions.
“Oh, that’s the pizza,” says Peter, when the doorbell rings.
Agent Woo opens his mouth as Peter leaps up from his chair, but ultimately doesn’t say anything. Once Peter’s back to the kitchen table, he opens the box and lets the aroma fill the apartment.
“Want a slice?”
“That would be crossing professional bounds…” says Agent Woo. His voice trailed off. He stared at the pizza. “But that pizza looks really good, and I haven’t had lunch…”
Peter pushes the box closer to the FBI agent. Agent Woo grabs a slice, and official talk about Peter’s detainment falls to the wayside.
“Tell me about the doctor,” says Peter. “Is she pretty?”
Agent Woo obliges, and Peter begins to understand why Woo’s crushing on her so hard. She sounds kickass. And Peter’s rooting for them.
“You gotta ask her out, man,” says Peter. A string of melt cheese hangs off his mouth and swipes it away. “I mean, Agent Woo.”
The agent laughs, and by the time he leaves, Peter knows how to do the magic trick and almost no time was spent talking about his upcoming trial or the conditions of his house arrest.
*
Peter bleeds out on his living room floor.
He hadn’t meant to get stabbed. He hadn’t even meant to step out of his apartment, but it’s getting to him. The confinement. The crime happening below his apartment and he’s expected to sit by and let happen.
Mr. Stark is going to kill him, and he wouldn’t have called him if not for the pain, the unbearable pain of his skin stitching itself back together. Superpowered healing doesn’t come without it’s trauma.
To make matters worse, his doorbell rings, and he isn’t expecting anyone, so he knows it’s Agent Woo.
He inhales deep. He tries freeing his face from displaying the terrifying agony he’s experiencing in his leg, and he limps over to answer the door.
Agent Woo isn’t fooled. “Jesus Christ, is that blood?”
“Is that Delmar’s?” Peter momentarily forgets his situation when he spots the brown bag in Agent Woo’s hand, and when he smells the unforgetful aroma of Delmar’s Deli.
“Forget the sandwiches,” says Agent Woo. He walks into the apartment, helps Peter back to the couch, and places the bag on the coffee table. “What happened to you?”
“Don’t freak out,” he tells him. “I accidentally stabbed myself with a steak knife.”
Agent Woo stands, crosses his arms. “I’m supposed to believe you did that to yourself? On accident?”
“To be fair,” says Peter. “You’ve known me long enough to know that’s also extremely probable.”
“How could you do this,” says Agent Woo. He isn’t angry. His voice sounds the same as Mr. Sark’s had on the phone. Worried. Afraid for him, and what’s done, putting his own privilege of pretrial house arrest on the line for a few minutes fighting petty criminals. “You know what’s at stake if you break the rules.”
“I know,” says Peter, softly. “I’m sorry.”
“We need to put pressure on that.”
Agent Woo disappears from his sight and returns with a towel he carefully ties around Peter’s leg wound.
“Are you sure you don’t need a hospital?”
Peter shakes his head. “Spider healing will work it’s magic.”
He closes his eyes and tries to block out the pain, and when that doesn’t work, he decides a distraction is what he needs.
“Tell me about Dr. Lewis,” he says, through a grimace. “Have you asked her out yet?”
Agent Woo sits on the couch next to him. “Not yet.”
“You gotta get on that,” says Peter. “Before someone else does.”
“I don’t know about that, Pete,” he tells him. “I don’t know if someone like her would say yes to someone like me.”
“Someone like you? Someone who’s a nice person? And likes all the same cheesy sit-coms as her?” asks Peter. “Dude, you two are perfect for each other. You’re gonna ask her, and she’s going to say something like geez, finally, I was waiting for you to get a clue, and then you’ll have little Dr. Lewis-Woos running around all over the place.” He stops, the pain stabs, and he keeps going. “She’d be lucky.”
“Thanks, Peter.”
“Anytime,” says Peter, his voice cracking. The edges of his vision blur, but he’s able to focus on the brown bag on the coffee table. “You really brought me Delmar’s?”
“Last time I was here you said how much you missed it.”
“Make a habit of doing favors for murders? Fun.”
The pain’s making him more bitter, more honest, more angsty about the fact that the entire world thinks he’s killed that clown Mysterio. Maybe that’s what his temporary escape is really about. Trying to prove that he’s good. That he’s against the crimes people say he’s committed.
“I know you’re not a murderer.”
The entire world minus one, he guesses, along with his friends and family.
“You believe me?”
“I’ve dealt with killers before,” says Agent Woo. “You’re not one of them.”
Peter feels lighter, better even in his leg, by the idea of someone like Agent Woo believing his innocence. Gives him hope maybe his house arrest will end with freedom instead of prison, like Mr. Stark has been telling him from the start.
His good feeling doesn’t last long, though, because Mr. Stark barges through the door and Peter’s spidey senses know he’s about to get a lecture.
“How could you be so stupid?”
“Mr. Stark -”
“-No,” says Mr. Stark. “No excuses. I’ve warned you over and over again. Where is it?”
Peter pulls the device he’d built to interfere with the ankle monitor out from his pocket, and hands it over to Mr. Stark, who breaks it.
“For a genius,” says Agent Woo, as he eyes the broken parts of the interference device. “You really lack common sense.”
Mr. Stark turns his attention to Agent Woo. “Look, Agent -”
“-I’m off duty,” says Agent Woo, standing up from the couch. “Just a guy bringing some sandwiches, and I’ve really got no reason to believe he didn’t slip and fall, uh, on a kitchen knife. Just… never again.”
Peter nods his head. “Okay, yeah, never again.”
Agent Woo leaves them, Mr. Stark softens and gives him his extra strength pain relievers, and Peter drifts off, but not before devouring the sandwiches he loves and dwelling on the tiny spark of hope Agent Woo offered to him.
Not everyone believes he's a murderer, and for that moment, it’s enough.

Cyberpunk 2077; V/Jackie; PG-13 (AO3 Flavor)
The dregs of the evening dripped by slow and unhurried as they made their way through the neon-drenched streets. Rainwater mingled with the bloody handprint staining V’s neck, and soaked into her shirt. Jackie draped arm over her shoulders as they walked, comfortably enough.
It wasn’t enough to keep her dry, but that wasn’t why he did it.
Between the street and the upper levels of her building, she had slipped out from under his arm again, but she only pulled away from him in sight of home. The door slid open under her touch. On reflex Jackie moved to follow her, and nearly stepped right into her when, halfway through, she half-turned, blocking his way.
“You stayin’ the night?”
“Was planning on it being that way, yeah.”
It blindsided him, because when was that ever a question?
But a soft smile played across her lips, warming his heart, even though it faded out again almost as soon as it appeared. She stepped into the apartment, and once he’d followed her through the door hissed closed behind them.
Jackie shook his jacket out near the door, and V let hers slump near the couch, rainwater and all.
He drew her into his arms, pressing a kiss on her forehead as she turned into his embrace. Her fingers tangled in his shirt, then her hand flattened against his chest. She huffed a little breath right up against his mouth, and pushed herself away.
“Um. I’m gonna go... get washed up.” That sounded like a plan, until she followed it up with, “Order dinner, would you please?”
Already stripping out of her damp shirt, she stepped in the direction of the shower.
Jackie found he couldn’t argue, because dinner sounded like as good a plan. “Anything particular you in the mood for? Pizza?”
“Pizza would be perfect,” she called back.
Raising an eyebrow at the trail of clothes in her wake, Jackie smirked at the answer.
It took him a handful of minutes to connect the call and wait, and another few to place an order. By the time he was finished and moved to join her, V was stepping out of the shower again.
“I should have some clothes that’d fit you if you wanna get clean,” she remarked, slipping past him. On a second thought, she smiled wryly. “I... think they might be yours, come to think of it.”
Again, he couldn’t argue. Not with logic, anyway. It might not have been the usual way he expected things to go around here by now, but clean sounded nice.
And once he was finished getting clean – pulling his hair back up and finding the towel she’d left for him on the sink and the clothes beneath it – he thought she must’ve been right – these were his. His other clothes were gone, and hers were gone from the floor – all bundled together down the laundry chute he supposed.
Pizza had been delivered, and V was sitting on the couch, watching the bright rainy midnight outside the window. There was a strange wistfulness to her expression as she picked her bites, a melancholy that didn’t fit.
Then she noticed him, and it was gone. But it left behind that strange sort of a distance now between them; one that wasn’t there before. Jackie didn’t think it’d been there earlier in the evening, and not even on the job.
V slid herself over to make room for him, and nudged the pizza boxes and paper plates stacked on top of them.
“S’good,” she told him, before taking another bite of her slice. “Still warm.”
She didn’t curl up next to him like Jackie might have otherwise expected, simply went back to watching the window as he served himself. He watched her through his entire first slice, and partway into the next before wiping his hand on his jeans.
At length, he reached up to brush his the back of his fingers across her cheek, and she shivered; flicking his eyes towards him, she froze under his gaze as though she only just now remembered he was there.
You’re acting kinda weird, you know that? he wanted to tell her. He also wanted to know, Everything alright with you?
All he asked was, “V?”
“I, um... It’s just that...” sucking in a breath, she staggered through, “I’ve been thinking some shit through, and it might it’d be better if we chilled it... maybe, for a little while. You know?”
It sent a cold bucket of ice down his back. Shifting in his seat, Jackie forced himself to settle down again. He split his attention between her and his food.
“Yeah... sure, whatever you want.”
V nodded once, curtly, forcing a smile that nowhere near reached her eyes, and...
That was it.
He wanted to ask the details, but he knew better.
They ate in silence. Jackie barely tasted whatever flavor it was the pizza was meant to emulate. There was a dull ache of loss in his chest where there shouldn’t have been, because that was never what this thing between them was meant to be about in the first place.
Then he chuckled, sitting up straighter.
“Oh. I get it now, I see what’s going on – you went and fell in love, didn’t you?”
Her head snapped towards him, her eyes wide and a question of How did you...? all but written across her face. Caught, she took in a shaky breath, and shook her head.
“I... kept wanting to tell you, but I couldn’t figure out how...”
“Ah huh,” Jackie followed his lead, “And now this guy is telling you that if you wanna be with him, he doesn’t want you fooling around with anyone else.”
V blinked at him, mouth open until she thought to close it.
“No...” She ventured, “Actually, he’s been really understanding about that part. I just... I feel like I’m being unfair to him, you know?”
“Yeah, alright. I guess I can see where you’re coming from.”
Jackie took a thoughtful bite of pizza as he mulled it over. V sat still beside him, eyes drifting closed, only to snap open again when he nudged her with his elbow.
“So tell me about this guy of yours.”
“He’s... uh...” V itched the skin surrounding her neural port. “He’s... kind. Caring. Generous... just... been really, really good to me since I’ve known him. I think he gets me better than anyone I’ve ever met...” Her shoulders dropped, and she fell to playing with the hem of her sleeve. “Might even know me better than I know myself, sometimes.”
“Guess there’s no way I can compete with that,” Jackie admitted. “Anybody I know, or...?”
“I... yeah,” she sighed harshly, “You introduced us.”
“...I did?”
She nodded, flashing him a shallow smile that didn’t last. A moment to think it through, and Jackie made a sharp ha! of triumph, snapping his fingers, and pointed to her.
“It’s Vik, isn’t it?”
“...no, it isn’t Vik.”
“¿No?”
“No.”
“Ah.”
Jackie blew out a breath as he wracked his brain.
“It is a guy, right? Someone I introduced you to...” She’d said he, and wasn’t contradicting him, so he presumed. He squinted at her. “It’s not my cousin, is it?”
“No. It’s not your cousin.”
...which was a slight relief, if he was about to be honest. “Good for that.”
Going down the options in his mind, Jackie scratched his chin. The list of guys he’d introduced her to wasn’t terribly short, but it was mostly business, and apart from Vik he couldn’t remember her ever so much as talking it up with any of them.
Or if she had, he hadn’t noticed. And he thought he would’ve noticed something like this.
Wouldn’t he have?
If so, why hadn’t he noticed before now?
Moreover, none of them seemed to fit her description.
“A'ight, I give up, V. Who is it?”
V had abandoned her plate, staring into space where half a slice of pizza sat on the coffee table.
“You’re not even gonna tell me, are you?” Jackie asked. “Come on, you think like I’m gonna hurt the guy or somethin’? I just wanna congratulate him, you know? Tell him how lucky he is to have gotten in good with my partner.”
“Jackie just... drop it. Alright?”
“Tch. Fine, have it your way.”
Jackie finished the crust of his pizza, and crumpled up his plate, carrying it with him as he got to his feet. It went in the garbage on his way to retrieve his jacket.
V didn’t seem to want him here, and he wasn’t about to impose.
He had one arm through a sleeve when behind him he heard her move; a faint rustle of her clothes and squeak of faux leather as she moved off the couch and the electric whisper of the door to her stash.
Jackie froze.
Licked his lip.
Swallowed.
Shrugged the rest of his jacket on, before turning around to face the glass door.
Something was wrong with all of this. V wasn’t acting like a woman in love; she was hurting something fierce and trying to stem the damage.
Jackie couldn’t leave her that way. Wouldn’t have forgiven himself ever if he had.
He caught up to her emptying out the pockets to her jacket – of all the junk she’d picked up that evening, and then some – onto her workbench. As he watched, a glass marble rolled over the edge, bouncing once before continuing across the floor.
Jackie leaned down to snatch it as it rolled right up to him, and straightened again, turning the marble this way and that.
It was clear, speckled with a cloud of sparkling little stars. Jackie smiled faintly, despite everything else – it was exactly V’s kind of treasure.
“Hey, V?” he asked, distantly, “This guy you’re sweet on... he even know you got a thing for him?”
“What...?” Her sorting grew slower, and V roused enough to answer a small, lost, “...no.”
The little stars in Jackie’s palm caught in the light. He blinked, and closed his fingers around them.
“He does now.”
V stilled.
The door closed behind him, his deceptively light steps carrying him to her side at the table. She squared towards him; holding out his hand, he offered her the marble back. She stared at it, and for a moment her hand hovered over his before she forced it back down to her side.
Jackie dropped his hand.
“I’m right, aren’t I?”
She didn’t answer, but she didn’t need to. It was written in the way her eyes narrowed, and the grim set of her mouth.
“How long you been bottling this up, V?”
“Six months? A year?” She scoffed, then sighed. “From the beginning? I think I felt different once, but... now I can’t even remember what that was like.”
“That’s a long fuckin’ time.”
Not like he was one to talk from experience or anything.
But it explained things. Some things. Not everything. In some ways, not anything.
The marble had grown warm in his palm.
Again, he offered it back to her.
Again, V didn’t take it.
Jackie glanced at it, then back to the glass door. He placed the marble on the table amidst the rest of her collection, and scratched behind his ear.
“You, uh...” he managed to choke it out without sounding too strangled, “want me to go?”
“Of course not.” It came out in a rush of breath. “I want you to stay, I want to be close to you, I wanted to tell you, but... I just... It feels like I’m breaking what I’d promised you; like I’m taking more than I....”
She trailed off, and when nothing more seemed forthcoming, Jackie sighed.
He reached for her hand, and felt a little flutter of hope when she didn’t pull away. He rubbed his thumb over her knuckles.
“So what’re we gonna do about this thing of yours you been keepin’ all to yourself over a year?”
V shook her head. She twisted her hand in his, slowly, until she had a loose hold. Then she raised his hand up to press the heel of his thumb to her lips.
A deceptively gentle little, “I don’t know,” whispered across his skin.
Jackie returned the sentiment, drawing her hand to his mouth. “Really, chica; what’s not to know, eh?”
She didn’t answer, not in an immediate rush, and he let her have her hand back, tracing the ink up her arm before letting his arm fall. When she did find her voice, it cracked, and V admitted softly, “I liked what we had. I didn’t want anything to change.”
“...who sayin’ anything’s gotta change?”
V blinked at nothing, then at him. Incredulity stained her voice. “You really think this doesn’t change anything?”
He thought about it for a few seconds, then acquiesced a nod. With a burst of laughter, he swept her off the floor, and V gave a sharp squeak of surprise, holding on as he spun her around. Loose cards and trinkets scattered, brushed from the table by the arc of her legs, and one of her feet smacked into a box of ammunition, clattering it over.
Mindful of none of it, Jackie dipped her forward, and she stretched out her knee in counterbalance.
“You’re right, it changes everything,” he let on with a grin. “But hey, who ever told you change has to be a bad thing?”
She managed to get her arms around his neck as he righted them. Hooking one arm under her knees so she was braced against one side, Jackie carried her back out through the door.
“Fuck’s sake. What if it didn’t work out? What if we ended up hating each other? Jackie, I couldn’t-...”
Jackie shrugged. His grip loosened, and he let her slide down beside the window. “What if you miss all the best things in your life ‘cause of what if, huh? What then?”
She reached to touch his arm, and her fingers curled as she dropped her hand again, falling back against the window.
“I don’t know,” she whispered again.
Jackie tsked.
“Hey, V, you wanna know a secret?” He pushed her hair back over her shoulder, and leaned in close to her ear to divulge, “I like you, too.”
She huffed – a sharp, shaky little breath that skimmed his shoulder.
“So really,” Jackie asked, “what’re you gonna do about it?”
Raising her chin as though to meet the hint of a challenge in his voice, V fixed her gaze on him, expression inscrutable. For half a moment longer, besides the tracing of her eyes, she remained still.
Then her fingers were bunched up in his shirt, and he let himself be pulled down to her level as she drew herself up against him. Her mouth found his in a demanding question of fervor and desire, tinged with something soft like adoration, and he pushed her right back up against the window.
A sense of relief flooded through him as her hands slipped over his shoulders, locking behind his neck, and he drew her into his arms, tucking his face against her shoulder and enfolding her in a tight embrace.
“Fuck,” V breathed, “what did I almost do?”
“Nothin’,” Jackie chuckled. “‘Cause I was here to rattle some sense back into that gonk-brained crazy head of yours.”
V made a small sound in her throat. Not even an argument.
“Just don’t ever let go.”
Her arms tightened against his neck, and he pressed his arm a little more firmly against her back.
“Never,” Jackie promised. “Never ever.”

Cabaret Club Czar Training - YUKI (Part 4)
yuki’s training continues! this time she and majima discuss personal improvement, unsuccessful job hunting, and how yuki ended up as a hostess.
highlights: - majima being very kind and supportive to yuki regardless of the option chosen - yuki still being too nervous to even theoretically sit a job interview - majima making brazen assumptions about yuki’s love life...
full transcript under the cut!
---
MAJIMA: Okay, ready for another round of talking?
YUKI: Yes, please!
M: Wow, Yuki-chan. You've got those battle butterflies all sorted out, don't ya?
Y: Well, it is just you, Majima-san.
M: Hey, we'll have none of that, thanks.
M: Alright! I'm the customer, you're the hostess, same as always. Are ya ready?
Y: Yeah! Of course!
Y: Welcome to Club Sunshine, Yuki! I mean, customer!
M: ...We still ain't there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y: Majima-san, thank you for requesting me. It's pretty cold today, isn't it?
M: Hey, Yuki-chan. You're lookin' cute as ever today.
Y: Haha... Hahahahaha...
M: Yo, what's with the giggles? I'm tryin' to talk to you like a customer would.
Y: Oh, I'm sorry! Majima-san, when you're the one telling me I'm cute, I can't help it... Hahaha.
M: Well, whatever works. At least you're doing okay when it's me you're practicin' with.
Y: Y-Yeah. I used to get nervous even talking to you, Majima-san. But with your help, I feel like... I'm getting it now.
Y: Even the conversations with my customers are getting longer lately. I'm actually starting to have fun at work!
M: That so? What ya been talkin' about?
Y: Everything and nothing. What they've done recently, what they ate... Oh, and hobbies!
M: Hobbies? Yeah, I seem to recall yours was...
> Writing in a diary.
M: ...Writing in a diary, right?
Y: That's right! I've recently started keeping a log of the customers I get each day, and I note all of their unique qualities and conversation topics.
M: Ah, that's some nice dedication to your customers. Way to go, Yuki-chan.
Y: I know my customer service skills aren't that great yet, so I thought I'd do what I can to get better.
Y: Well, I'm still working at it. I know I've got room to grow.
M: Hey, that's some good stuff right there, Yuki-chan. You've come a real long way.
> Bonsai.
M: It was bonsai, right?
Y: Wow, Majima-san, you actually remembered I raise bonsai? That's amazing! I only mentioned it briefly, didn't I?
M: Heh. When you're working at a cabaret club, a steel trap memory is half the battle.
Y: That's true. I found myself forgetting little things, so I started keeping a log of my customers' unique qualities and conversation topics in my diary.
M: Ahh, so now you've practically got a case file on your customers.
> Reading self-help books.
M: ...Reading relationship self-help books, right?
Y: N-No, it isn't! I mean, I guess I did read one. Once.
M: Yeah, what was the line you fed me? “Meat and potatoes are the quickest way to a man's heart!” Somethin' like that?
Y: Ahhhhh! Seriously! Just forget about that, please!
M: Heh heh heh.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M: So, the club's come quite a long way, hasn't it? And you've been here since the beginning to see it all change.
Y: Yes, right. I've only been here for six months, though. I graduated from college just this year.
M: Yeah, remember when this place had three girls in it, including you?
M: So tell me somethin'. Why's a girl like you working in a club like this, anyway?
Y: Th-That's because...
M: Last time I asked, ya clammed up just like this. Maybe it's time ya cleared the air.
Y: ...... (uehh..)
Y: I... I couldn't find a job.
M: Eh?
Y: After I graduated from college, my job search was going nowhere, and I couldn't find anything!
M: Really? In this day and age? Companies are practically hirin' bums off the street, and you couldn't get a bite?
Y: I-It's true! I'm a pathetic woman who couldn't get an offer from a single company!
Y: I do pretty well on written tests, but I get nervous easily, so I'm terrible at interviews. I'm not a good liar like most people are, either.
Y: *sighs* I'm a real loser, aren't I?
> They were clueless.
M: Lettin' someone like you slip through the cracks was a mistake, Yuki-chan. Those fool companies were clueless.
Y: What?
M: Look around ya. It's the times we're in. Everybody's dressed to the nines in lies and vanity, tryin' to one up the competition.
M: But you don't do that. You just put yourself out there the way ya are, honest almost to a fault.
M: I wanna work with people I can believe in. I'd hire an awkward gal who can't tell a lie over a buncha smooth-talkin' succubi any day of the week.
Y: Majima-san, you've made me so happy. I... faced a lot of rejection, but in the end, I'm glad I got to work here.
M: Really?
Y: Yes. Otherwise, I never would have learned to talk to people like this. And I met you, Majima-san, along with everyone else here.
M: Well then, I'm glad ya got rejected too. If you weren't here at the club, who knows what woulda happened.
Y: I'm glad I'm awkward.
> Honesty is a talent.
M: I'd say bein' unable to tell a lie is actually a pretty positive quality, Yuki-chan.
Y: What?
M: Look around ya. It's the times we live in. Everybody's dressed to the nines in lies and vanity, tryin'to one up the competition.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M: So how'd it happen? I imagine ya musta met Youda-chan somehow, eh?
Y: Yeah. I was spacing out at a park by myself. I shudder to think what would've happened if he didn't approach me.
M: Interesting. I wonder what possessed Youda-chan to roll up on you.
Y: I remember him saying, “There's something brilliant within you! You're the kind of girl that only appears once in a decade!” That's Youda-san for you.
M: Oh. Uhh... I see.
Y: Youda-san is a really bad judge of character, isn't he?
M: Nah, nah, I disagree.
M: So, Yuki-chan, if you could get a normal day job now, would ya still wanna go do that instead of the cabaret club?
Y: I don't know. Until recently, I really wanted to quit this job, to be honest.
Y: But now, I want to see what I can make of myself at this club for a while.
M: I see.
Y: Of course, at some point I'd like to resume my job search and try to get an office job.
Y: But, this club is a comfortable place to be, and I learn so much every day. So I'm thinking maybe I should grow up a little more here before I start looking again.
> You gotta get sexier.
M: If that's the case, your next goalpost's gotta be sexiness.
Y: Me, s-sexy? Why's that?
M: Considering the world we live in, bein' sexy is a great way to land an interview. Women got some tools men don't, so ain't no harm in usin' em.
Y: I-I see. That makes sense. Maybe I failed my interviews because I wasn't sexy enough.
M: Yeah, maybe that was the problem. And maybe a bunch of other things, too...
M: Nothin' better than an interviewer flustered by a sexy woman, though. He's tryin' to ask ya questions when all he really wants to know is the color of your damn underwear!
Y: O-Okay! But I wouldn't want to answer that question...
> You can network here!
M: Ya never know, one of your clients could turn out to be a corporate manager.
Y: What?
M: If he likes ya, he might offer you a job right there on the spot. Haha.
Y: Whaaat? Though I guess that does happen in manga!
Y: Wh-What would I do? I'm getting nervous just thinking about it...
M: Hey, relax, Yuki-chan. Lay your best line on me.
Y: Wh-What can I do for you Mr. President... My name Yuki... It nice to meet you...
M: Oh man, you sound more nervous than a foreigner on her first day at a shady bar.
> I'll work ya hard!
M: Nice. But fair warning, I'm gonna put the screws to ya!
Y: Y-Yes! I'm looking forward to it! I'll work hard!
M: Heh. You've changed, Yuki-chan. Look at that confidence. I bet you'd ace a company interview now.
Y: R-Really? Heh heh... Hahahaha.
M: ...Just make sure ya don't laugh like that at the interview, or they'll boot ya right out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M: Alright, let's call it a day. Good job, Yuki-chan.
Y: Sure. Thank you very much. Whew... Now I'm getting sleepy all of a sudden, now that I can relax. *yawn*
M: You gettin' enough sleep at night, Yuki-chan?
Y: Oh, y-yes. I just had an unexpected guest over last night, so...
M: Oh, I see. A late night guest, eh? Well, now.
Y: Huh? What is it?
> A lady needs sleep.
M: Nothin', nothin'. Just get your beauty sleep, Yuki-chan.
M: Lack of sleep's bad for the skin! And it's doubly bad if ya fall asleep on the job.
Y: Y-Yes! Thanks for your concern. They say nothing's more important to a woman than her skin, after all. And it would be rude to the customer. I'll be careful!
M: Yeah, nothin' wrong with going out for a night on the town. Just don't overdo it, right?
Y: Huh? Going out? I don't really understand, but, anyway, I'll get more sleep!
> I wish ya the best.
M: Well then, Yuki-chan, I wish ya nothin' but happiness.
Y: Huh? Wh-What are you talking about? I don't understand what you're getting at!
M: It's okay, it's no problem. A bit of a shame, I guess, but if you're happy, I'm happy too.
Y: Um, uh. Thank you? Well, I am happy. I guess I'll keep on being happy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M: Okay, I think that'll do it.
Y: Th-Thank you for the lesson.
M: Sure thing. Good job.

BTS Reaction: You are unmotivated/insecure about your dancing
Tumblr media
Namjoon
Tumblr media
Namjoon could tell something was off lately. You barely hung out together anymore, and when he did try to talk to you all he got was one word answers. He was worried to say the least. So that lead him to showing up at your door with a bag of your favorite snacks, drinks, and movies to watch. He knocked on the door and opened it to find you still in your pajamas.
“Oh. Namjoon? Did we have plans today?”
“Ah no. I just wanted to come over and check on you. You haven’t been your usual self.” Your face falls at that and your arm wraps around your waist as a way to make you feel more secure. “Did I make you upset for any reason?”
“Oh no no! It’s not you it’s just...”
“Can I come in so we can talk then?” You nod and step aside, allowing him to follow you into the living room. “So what’s on your mind? You know I usually can give pretty good advice.”
“I know. You’re the best at giving it, honestly. I guess I’ve just been feeling really insecure and upset about my dancing lately. I never feel like I am good enough. When I watch videos of myself I just criticize every little thing I do wrong and it just makes me think, Why bother?”
Namjoon furrows his brows and takes a moment. You know this is something he does when he’s considering his words carefully before speaking.
“Who got the lead role in the Nutcracker?”
“Um.. me?”
“And who received countless praise from our dance line about how amazing their dancing is?”
“...Me.”
“And who helps me with my dancing when I am struggling myself?”
“Hoseok.”
“Y/n!”
“Okay okay. It’s me.”
“So you see? You are amazing at what you do. You’re one of the best dancers I know. Even Jimin and Hoseok are in awe when they watch you dance. You’re passionate, and you’re good. That’s a winning combo if I’ve ever seen.” You can’t help the corners of your lips from tugging up in a smile.
“You’re right. It’s going to take me some time to feel better. But with you cheering me on, I think I’ll be okay.”
“And you can always count on me to be in your corner. I’ll embarrass the hell out of you and scream your name so loud when you’re practicing!” You laugh and rest your head on his shoulder.
“I would absolutely love that.”
 Jin
Tumblr media
“Well then I guess we will just have to distract you and keep your mind off things! Let’s go, jagi!” Jin practically drags you out of the house and takes you on a shopping trip.
“Jin, I can’t afford any of this stuff!”
“That’s not why we’re here. I want you to pick out the most ridiculous outfit combination you can find and I’ll wear it. And I’ll do the same for you!” You shake your head but comply. In the end you pick him out a pair of plaid shorts, a polka dot shirt, mix matched shoes and knee high socks. Jin picks out a pink dress, neon green pants, and bright red shoes with a fedora to match. You boh walk out of the dressing room at the same time and immediately burst into laugher at the sight of each other.
“This is absolutely ridiculous!” You huff through your laughter.
“I know right? You did a good job.”
“No I mean the fact that you actually pull that off and still look good is ridiculous. I look like a damn clown! But you look like you just stepped off the Gucci runway!”
“Ah, it’s this handsome face you see. It just matches with everything.” You giggle and Jin smiles at seeing he’s managed to cheer you up even for a minute. He’s about to go back in and change when one of their songs comes over the store speaker. It’s Gogo and he immediately starts doing the choreography, and you can’t help but join in. By the end of it all you’re smiling and laughing, completely forgetting about being upset in the first place.
“See? This is how dancing should be for you. Just let go, have fun and relax. You don’t have to be so worried about being he best or absolutely perfect all the time as long as you’re enjoying it.” You let his words sink in and realize he’s right.
“I know. And thank you for reminding me of that. Now let’s get out of these ridiculous clothes and go get something to eat.”
Yoongi
Tumblr media
Yoongi noticed you hadn’t been dancing as much. Usually you are constantly moving around the apartment, no matter what time of day or night it is and that was something that always brightened his day. But now you seem to be shutting yourself out. And when he even suggested going to the studio to dance with him you immediately turned it down. He knew something was up. So when he asked you about it and you confessed how you had been feeling lately he was shocked. But then he immediately came up with an idea to help you.
He got to work in the studio creating a song just for you. He imaged you dancing in his head while he finished the melody and added some finishing touches. He even had Jimin and Hoseok listen to it.
“Y/n will love this, Yoongi. It’s like the song itself sounds like it’s dancing.” Yoongi’s smiles proudly and can’t wait to show you. He asks you to meet him at the dance studio, and although you’re suspicious you reluctantly agree, finding yourself unable to resist when the slight whine leaks through his voice. You walk into the studio and find him at the speakers, getting ready to play a song. He presses play and it’s unfamiliar to you, but you feel like you know every move. It just comes naturally and before long you are dancing around the studio with him. Although he is a bit reluctant and pretends like he is not enjoying himself, you see right through it. When the song is over you both are slightly out of breath, but he’s smiling his classic gummy bear smile at you.
“What song was that by the way? It was beautiful.” Yoongi hands you his phone and you see the title of the file. “Y/n’s melody? You wrote this for me?”
“Ah, yeah.” He rubs the back of his neck and you see the tips of his ears turning red. “I thought maybe writing his song for you would help you feel happy about dancing again.” You smile and lean in to press a quick peck to his lips.
“It definitely did. I don’t know how I can ever thank you enough for this.”
“Let me see you dance again?”
“I think I can do that.”
Hoseok
Tumblr media
If you were feeling insecure about your dancing, he would put his teaching skills to use and help you any way he could. He offered to take you to the studio, which honestly scared you a little bit. You’ve seen the look on his face when he’s evaluating someone’s dancing and it’s intimidating as hell. When you arrive at the studio he can tell you’re nervous. A soft smile from him sets your mind at ease. He rests his hands on your hips and presses a kiss to the back of your head, and you can’t help but immediately relax at the comforting gesture.
“Don’t worry y/n. I’m just here to help you, not criticize you.” You nod and he turns on the song you have been working on. He watches you intensely, but his gaze is full of admiration which gives you the confidence to keep going. When the song finishes he’s looking at you with a confused expression on his face.
“Well? What do you think?”
“Y/n you’re amazing! I don’t know how you can’t see it. Hell if I could I’d use your choreography for one of our songs. I think you only messed up a few times in the beginning because you aren’t confident, which you should be! You’re gonna give me a run for my money.” Every complement that flows from his mouth causes your face to turn a darker shade of red.
“Oh stop, you’re just saying that.”
“No I’m really not. I would be honest with you. I don’t sugar coat things when it comes to dancing. Just be confident and own that stage sweetheart!” He winks at you and kisses your cheek and you smile back.
“I think I’ll do just that.”
Jimin
Tumblr media
He would take you out dancing. If Jimin knew you were unmotivated he would take you to a bar or club where you could really just let loose and have fun. A place where you can let go and not worry about being perfect with your dancing.
“Come on y/n! Dance with me!”
“I don’t know Jimin, there’s a lot of people here. What if I make a fool of myself?”
“That’s the point! You don’t have to worry about being technical here. Just let go, have fun with me just for one night.” And just like that you’re out on the dance floor. Jimin doesn’t show off his moves, doesn’t move with the fluidity and grace he normally does. The moment he gets out on the floor he starts doing cheesy and silly moves to make you laugh. You’re doubled over in laughter when you feel a pair of hands on your wrists. He starts swinging your arms back and forth making you dance with him and you can’t help but laugh even more. Even though the music is loud, you still hear the melodic sound of his giggles which seems to place a constant smile on your face. Which makes him return the smile even brighter.
When you two go home that night, you are laying side by side in bed. He turns to you and searches under the blanket until his hand finds yours.
“Are you feeling better y/n?”
“I am. Thanks to you.”
“Good. And you know if you ever need help with any of your dancing you can always come to me. I won’t judge or make fun of you. And I’ll help in anyway I can.” You smile and lean in to kiss his cheek.
“Thank you, Jimin.”
Taehyung
Tumblr media
He’s surprised when you confess to him that you’re feeling unmotivated to dance. It’s something you’ve always been passionate about and loved doing. So he decides he’s going to have to do something to make you enjoy it again.
It’s about 1 in the morning when you hear a soft melody coming from down the hall, and Taehyung’s sweet voice floating throughout the apartment until it reaches your ears. You sigh happily, closing your eyes for a moment just enjoying the sound of his voice before you put your phone down and walk into the living room. He has candles lit and the orange glow flickering across his face somehow makes him look even more ethereal than he already is to you. He continues singing but holds his hand out to you. You take it without hesitation. He spins you around and laughs slightly as he sings, hearing the light giggles escape you. His hands are on your waist as he slowly moves you two around the room. You lose yourself in this moment, just letting go and letting your body move in perfect sync with his. He dips you at the end of the song and places a gentle kiss to your forehead before lifting you back upright. And you’re absolutely beaming.
“I wanted to help you feel better about your dancing. I know you’ve been unmotivated lately but, I was hoping maybe this would help.” Your smile grows even wider at that, knowing that he did this to help you.
“I think it did. If nothing else it at least made me feel really happy knowing you care that much about me that you would do all this.”
“Of course! You know I would move mountains if it meant getting to see that beautiful smile on your face.”
Jungkook
Tumblr media
Jungkook knew you were feeling down lately about your dancing, but he didn’t know how to help you feel better. So he decided to ask you.
“What can I do y/n? Jus tell me and whatever it is, I’ll do it.”
“I guess I just need to not feel so insecure about my dancing anymore. You and the guys always tell me how amazing I am but you’re my friends. I feel like you’re saying it just to be nice to me.”
“Y/n you know none of us would lie to like that, don’t you?”
“Deep down yes I do. But my brain just won’t let me believe it right now.” Jungkook sighs before an idea pops into his head. He looks through his gallery for a video of you dancing to one of their songs he had taken in their studio. He stands up abruptly and walks out of the room, leaving you feeling rather confused.
“Jungkook? Where are you going?”
“I’ll be back later! Keep an eye on your phone though!” You stare after him in confusion but do as he says, making sure your volume is on.
Jungkook heads back to his apartment and uploads the video and edits your face out, not knowing if you would be comfortable with millions of people knowing who you were. And he uploads the video to his fake stan twitter page with the caption.
Isn’t she amazing? Wow she should be a choreographer for big hit!
He gets a few likes on the post but then likes it from their official page, and it blows up from there. Countless likes and replies with words of praise for you pour in. He pulls out his phone to text you and tells you to check the most recent post they liked. You open up the page and are floored when you see it’s the video of you dancing to their song. You read the comments underneath and see nothing but nice words and praises for you. People saying you should be dancer for Big Hit, an idol yourself, or even a choreographer. Seeing all these positive comments helped reset in your mind what you already knew, that you were passionate about your dancing and it showed.  But it’s the message that comes through to your DM’s that is the final setting stone for you.
Hello! My name is Eun-Jung and I work for Big Hit. We’ve recently seen a video of you dancing to a choreography and wanted to invite you to our next audition...
Your eyes well up reading this, and you knew exactly who must have orchestrated all of this. You pull out your phone to his message and type a simple, Thank you. Completely at a loss for a proper way to thank him for all he’s done to help you.
You’re welcome. You know I’d do anything to make you smile. We should go out to celebrate? I’ll pick you up at 7?
That sounds perfect.

Coffee shop date
Word count:1,240
T/W:none, fluff
Will pushed through the door of the coffee shop with a dignified huff and leaned against the frame for a second. He liked to think that he was in shape, but the sprint from the train station to here quickly proved him wrong. Once he regained his breath, his eyes scanned the room looking for the familiar brunet. Once he did, he wanted to scream or run or do both, anything to keep him from making a fool out of himself.
Instead of the usual knit cardigans he’d seen the man wear, he’d swapped it out for a much darker look. A look that made Will’s knees weak and his heart stutter against his chest. Nico was wearing black ripped jeans, with a leather jacket and a tee shirt of a band Will never heard of before. His hair was slicked back into a tiny ponytail at the nape of his neck with little wispy baby hairs framing his face perfectly. Now, Will’s always been slightly impulsive but he had to remind himself that it wasn’t appropriate to stroke this man like a newborn kitten.
He felt like a toddler on Easter Sunday in his baby blue polo and khakis. While this new side of Nico was hot and definitely filled his head with some images. It also intimidated the living shit out of him. It took him all of five minutes and Nico snapping his fingers for him to realize he hadn’t moved.
“So are you going to take a seat or continue staring?”Nico said playfully. He felt the telltale signs of a blush prickle across his cheeks and he immediately took a seat in the booth. Now that he was out of his daze he realized it was a quaint little place, the walls were littered with little antiques and baroque style paintings. It seemed very Nico. A little odd, but overall familiar.
“Sorry i’m late”He said and gnawed on his bottom lip, “The train was delayed for some reason”
“No need to apologize”Nico said, “I wasn’t on time myself”
He nodded and tried to buy a little time fidgeting with his windbreaker.
“I like your jacket,”He said, and gave a silent cheer for stringing together a coherent sentence.
“So do I, that's why I bought it,”Nico said. Will’s eyes widened slightly because fuck he’s already managed to say the wrong thing. He started to stammer out an apology for being so him, but the brunet cut him off with a barking laugh. One you wouldn’t expect to come out of his body, a little too loud for a coffee shop but it made Will laugh too. Once Nico finally got over his laughing fit and Will got over his shock because he made Nico laugh, the brunet spoke.
“Please don’t take me too seriously, I'm known for my dry humour”Nico said in between chuckles. “Runs in my family, honestly think I get it from my father”
“I think I get mine from my mother”He said and giggled softly, “I always get told i’m a lot like her”
“Yeah, my mother and I were very similar too”Nico said with a fond smile, “We both loved the arts”
“I’m probably overstepping but you said were, did she…?”He asked carefully.
“She passed a long time ago,”Nico said. “It’s okay to ask, don’t feel the need to walk on eggshells with me. I’m a tough cookie” he gave a little wink and smiled so wide it reached his ears. His smile was tinged with a little sadness but he was okay. The longer they sat here, the more Will grew to realize that this could be something. He always seemed to overshoot on the first date but maybe, just maybe this could lead somewhere.
“Tell me more about her”He said, and just watching the way his eyes lit up at the mere mention of her just started ticking more boxes on his list.
“Well her name is Maria”Nico said, “And she was the most beautiful woman in this world...on this world? On this planet?”he questioned. For once he looked a little flustered and it shot Will’s expectations off of the moon and back to earth. Despite his confidence and cool demeanor, Nico was still human.
“I’m sorry”Nico blushed, “My English still gets a little fuzzy at times”
“English isn’t your first language?”He asked curiously. He knew Nico had an accent but he’d never thought about it.
“I’m from Italy,”Nico clarified, “born and raised until I came here for University. You couldn’t place the accent?”
“Of course I could”He said rolling his eyes, “I just think it’s cool”
“Where are you from?”Nico asked, “Your accent sounds southern”
“I have an accent?”He asked scrunching up his nose, “I’ve never thought of that”
“You Americans never do think of that”Nico teased, “let me make a guess!”
“Go for it,”He said.
“Hmm, Virginia!”Nico exclaimed, then clamped a hand over his mouth. And Will couldn’t believe how fucking cute he was. The same Nico who’d intimidated half of the staff with his glare was sitting here gesturing wildly and guessing the most absurd places. Will shook his head and Nico guessed again.
“Boston!”
“That’s not even in the south!”he said, pointing a finger.
“Right”Nico said to himself, “um, Utah?”
“How dare you?”He gagged, “Alright you’re out of guesses”
“Damn it”Nico pouted, “I didn’t want to know that badly anyways”
“Sore loser”He said sticking out his tongue, “I’m from Texas”
“I was going to guess that next!”Nico cried out.
“Mhm sure you were”He teased. Before Nico could respond a blonde waiter walked up to the table.
“So you two lovebirds gonna order anything or just sit here?” Nico’s face quickly flushed and he groaned, dropping his head in his hands.
“Jason!”Nico whined.
“What?”Jason smirked, “I was just pointing out the obvious”
“It’s the first date, don’t say things like that!”Nico scolded.
“Whatever neeks”Jason said shaking his head, “It’s kind of illegal to just loiter”
“I ordered water earlier,”Nico huffed.
“That doesn’t count and you know it,”Jason scoffed.
“But it does,”Nico argued.
“Doesn’t”
“Does”
“Doesn’t”
“I own the shop”
“I don’t care!”
“I’ll take a coffee!”Will blurted out, “Just stop, you guys are worse than my preschoolers”
“No we’re not!”They said, and Will audibly scoffed. Yeah right.
“Yeah right”He said, “Nico stop arguing. Jason, pleasure to meet you but please leave”
“So he has a backbone after all”Nico muttered and Will narrowed his eyes.
“If you weren’t so cute i’d take offence”He said.
“Aw you think he’s cute”Jason gushed.
“Leave!”
-
After the Jason Grace influenced fumble the two quickly recovered and talked for hours about everything. The little voice in Will’s head was telling him to run out while he still could, that they’ve been out too long for a first date and he would ruin it. But seeing that smile on Nico’s face and hearing his laughter silenced it for the time being. And the straight out of a movie scene ride home on Nico’s moped seemed to silence it forever. As he laid in bed that night with promises of a second date fresh on his mind, he realized that no matter how anxious he’s felt all day. He’s made the right choice.

Chapter 5: Caring Is a Hazard to Your Health (#27)
We keep shuffling through the room, and I make sure to check behind the file cabinet with Mahavir’s help, but nothing new is turning up. That’s all right. Wasn’t really expecting anything.
Tumblr media
“So, we good?”
Tumblr media
“Yeah, I think we’ve checked everything.”
Tumblr media
“Thanks for tagging along.”
Tumblr media
“No prob, brah.”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“Are we going to rejoin the others? I’d like to rest for a bit, but that still requires a group, so to speak.”
Tumblr media
“I wouldn’t mind settling down for a while.”
Tumblr media
“Like, I still got sports ‘n’ stuff to talk about?”
Tumblr media
“I might stick with that side ‘f things.”
Tumblr media
“Okay. Guess we’re moving the groups around after all. Think you can make it to the gym, Mahavir?”
Tumblr media
“Yes.”
Awful lot of trouble, but off we go. Yuki and, surprisingly, Aidan end up joining our “group” to split up in the dorms. All very exciting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“...”
Guess I’ll be spending a lot of time in here. It’s roomy, at least. The bath’s fine. Conditions could certainly be worse.
Tumblr media
Aside from the killing game.
Tumblr media
It’s fine. I can’t see everyone respecting the lockdown rules 24/7, but if the opportunities to kill are still harder to come by... we shouldn’t have much to worry about, right?
...
Yuki, Mahavir, and I have our last cooking lesson for a while, with Tsunyasha hanging around to round out the arrangement. I’d like to think I’m getting better at this, but...
Tumblr media
Considering where I started, that may not mean much.
...
Tumblr media
“Hello, students! It is now nighttime, so, um! Don’t try to go in the cafeteria or anything, and don’t sleep anywhere but the dormitories! I-I’ll see you in the morning…!”
...
Tumblr media
“Um, hello! Good morning! It is now 7:00, so the off-limits areas have been reopened! And, um! You have three days left if you want to save your loved ones! Everyone do your best today…!”
Tumblr media
Don’t appreciate the countdown to death there. But I guess it’s also our countdown to going back to normal.
Well, whatever counts as normal in this place.
Tumblr media
Kind of have to wonder what “normal” would even be for us without all of this happening. Considering the people in this class, I doubt it would be any closer to “ordinary”. I can only wonder who’s supposed to be in that resident director office. Are they used to managing crowds like this? I’m sure Apex Academy has turned out its fair share of eccentrics, but it’s hard to imagine this class isn’t full of top runners.
Anyway. I’d better get to breakfast.
I ready myself for the day and head out. Guess I put the speed on today, because I’m the first one in the hall. Then again, half of us are seriously injured, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised.
I start for the main set of doors and reach for a handle. My usual amount of hesitation may be a boon today, because there’s a holler from behind before I can touch it.
“Hey, hey, hang on!!”
I pull back and turn around.
Tumblr media
“Good morning to you, too?”
Aidan, still only halfway through his door, pants for a second before wheeling himself farther along.
Tumblr media
“Er, yes, that, too, thank you.”
Tumblr media
“Anyway, I believe I stated we would all gather before leaving the dorm area for breakfast, so if you don’t mind...”
Tumblr media
“Oh. Right. Sorry.”
I step back just in time for more of us to start filtering in.
Tumblr media
“Goooooood morning, everybody!”
Tumblr media
“Good morning...”
Tumblr media
“Everybody ready to have A Day?”
Tumblr media
“Do we have a choice?”
Tsunyasha, when she comes, attempts to shoulder past me.
Tumblr media
“Excuse me?”
Tumblr media
“If you insist. Consider this a pardon.”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“What? Do you truly expect me to kowtow to some sinner’s demands?”
Tumblr media
“Yes, we do.”
Tumblr media
“Goodness.”
Tumblr media
“The foolishness in this building is even worse than I had imagined.”
Tumblr media
“As fair as that might be, do you mind staying back for one more minute?”
Tumblr media
“We only have one more person to wait on.”
Tumblr media
“The legless one, yes? I’ve no particular need to greet him.”
Tumblr media
“Rude.”
A sudden ripping noise makes me turn around. Aside from Aidan guarding the door with his back to us—guess it’s easier than trying to wheel himself around the other way—nothing seems off.
Tumblr media
“Is everything all right...?”
Tumblr media
“I think so?”
Tumblr media
“Yes, as far as I can tell. At any rate, we might as well keep up conversation.”
Tumblr media
“Okay! Does anybody wanna play a game?”
Tumblr media
“I spyyyyyy...”
Tumblr media
“There’s nothing to spy except doors and each other.”
Tumblr media
“Yup!”
Well, he’s sure not disappointed, somehow.
Before he can try to stir up a rousing game of I Spy regardless, Tsunyasha goes over to Kaichi’s door and knocks loudly.
Tumblr media
“Fool! Are you yet slumbering?”
So she... is cooperating?
Tumblr media
For now. I’m sure she’ll give it up soon enough.
Tumblr media
“Let the dude sleep if he wants.”
Tumblr media
“Not an option at the moment, I’m afraid. Even if Mister Riseiin will have to go off notes, he is needed at the meetings.”
Tumblr media
“Are we discussing x-rays today?”
Tumblr media
“My ankle is fine.”
Tumblr media
“I doubt that’s the issue.”
Tumblr media
“Er, no, I only mean that everyone needs to be present. We’ve gone over this, haven’t we?”
Tumblr media
“Uh...”
Tumblr media
“I think so!”
Just before Tsunyasha tries to rip the whole doorknob off, Kaichi’s door opens.
Tumblr media
“ ‘s there a fire ‘r something, brah?”
Tumblr media
“No, you’ve a while yet before you face the pits of Hell.”
Tumblr media
“Sweet.”
Tumblr media
“Are all of the notes on your door intact, Mister Riseiin?”
Kaichi ducks back to check.
Tumblr media
“Looks like?”
Tumblr media
“Good. Are we all ready to go, then?”
Tumblr media
“Ummm-hummm...”
Tumblr media
She heaves a sigh. “At long last, yes.”
The procession heads to the cafeteria, then halves for the kitchen. Apparently Kaichi and I are the guest chefs today, with Yuki and Mahavir at their normal stations. Better than everyone trying to cook in here at once.
Tumblr media
And certainly better than trusting Tsunyasha and Ichiriki to make my food for me.
Eventually we settle down for the meeting. Still have a lot of cooking to do after we get through the agenda, though.
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“Are we... starting the meeting at some point?”
Aidan looks up from his toast.
Tumblr media
“Of course! Excuse me.”
He clears his throat.
Tumblr media
“All right! Is everyone ready to get down to business?”
Tumblr media
“I do wonder, do you even intend to ask anyone besides yourself for announcements this time?”
Tumblr media
“If you have anything that goes against our current emergency plan, then no, I would prefer you not announce it or otherwise go through with it!”
Tumblr media
“But if there’s anything else of importance, by all means, feel free to announce it!”
Tumblr media
“Hmph. What a farce.”
Tumblr media
“Kay, if we’re, like, done bashing on each other for no reason?”
Tumblr media
“IT’S SPORTS DAY, BABY!″
Tumblr media
“A whole day, huh.”
Tumblr media
“That’s correct! We’ll begin in the gym, with the possibility of moving on to some other rooms depending on how long the event lasts!”
Tumblr media
“You don’t know?”
Tumblr media
“We’ll pretty much have the event until one or more of us need to leave, so it’s hard to be sure, yes.”
Tumblr media
“Considering certain parties, I’d like to hope we’ll at least be able to start on those terms.”
Tumblr media
“By ‘certain parties,’ you mean Tsunyasha, right?”
Tumblr media
“Yeah.”
Tumblr media
“Yo, Tsuntsun? If you screw this up for us, like, I will beat the crap outta you. Just sayin’.”
Tumblr media
“No threats!!!”
Tumblr media
“Oh? Don’t you wish you could do such a thing, whelp.”
Tumblr media
“Dude, I don’t care what kinda assassin you are, you’re totally not invincible.”
Tumblr media
“Like, with all the fancy holy stuff prolly at least mostly? But not totally.”
Tumblr media
“How impious.”
Tumblr media
“It would be nice if you cooperated, though...”
Tumblr media
“We don’t have that many opportunities... to have fun like this, you know?”
Tumblr media
“Hmph. I need not bend to your whims.”
Tumblr media
“Do you want some dorayaki...?”
Tumblr media
“...An exchange could be suitable.”
Tumblr media
What a trump card.
Tumblr media
“Okay! Once we’ve prepared all our food for the day, we’ll return to our rooms for a few minutes before the sports begin.”
Tumblr media
“So we doing, like, Jap’nese school sports festival stuff ‘r what?”
Tumblr media
“That would be, like, super fancy?!”
Tumblr media
“A bit ambitious for our current situation, I’m afraid.”
Tumblr media
“We’ll just have some games that should be manageable for those interested in participating.”
Tumblr media
“And plenty of room for those who prefer to watch.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, oh!!! Are you gonna do the color commententating?”
Tumblr media
“No. He is not.”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“Aw...”
Tumblr media
“But yeah, we got, like, a list of stuff to try and go through?”
Tumblr media
“Should I read ‘em off, or should it be a surprise? Hmm...”
Tumblr media
“Considering the high likelihood we won’t get through all of them, it may be less disappointing to keep it a surprise.”
Tumblr media
“Tru.”
Tumblr media
“Is there any setup beforehand?”
Tumblr media
“Not really. At least, not for the first event. There may be some setup after that, but we’ll have time to work on it then without keeping everyone waiting.”
Tumblr media
I was more concerned about a group going off ahead of time, but I guess that answers the question.
Tumblr media
“Any more questions?”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“...”
Tumblr media
“All right! We’ll have a good deal of time left in the meeting to get the rest of our meals prepared, so if there are any other concerns or announcements, feel free to bring them up anytime!”
Tumblr media
“Until then, that’s all I have to say.”
I turn back to my breakfast.
Tumblr media
Sports Day, huh? I have to wonder what most of us can do in our condition. But I guess it’s not a bad idea. Get some team spirit going, or something.
Tumblr media
Better than sitting around alone thinking about that little sliver of a possibility Monochap’s going to follow through on his threat if no one dies.
Tumblr media
“...”
Well, it won’t do me much good to think about it surrounded by people, either. Let’s just keep moving.
