I've been told my comic feels like it was written by AI.

I suppose I'm not trying to be groundbreaking. I'm not interested in pioneering genres. I'm not writing for the purpose of literary analysis.

But written by AI...?

I'm already someone who has my humanity questioned. My identity erased. My existence disrespected. It could be worse. Anything could be worse.

But AI?

I spend weeks writing single scenes, toiling over the implications of single lines. I have goals. My writing has intent.

If you cared to read deeper, perhaps you'd see the themes. Maybe then you'd see the value. If you tried to analyze it maybe you'd see something there.

Maybe you'd see me.

Someone told me my comic seemed like it was written by AI.

And my humanity was denied one step further in that my voice was not seen in the work I've poured years of my life into.

most of what you're wearing isn't what you arrived in. hobie's shirt, his boxers, and your shoes from last night which are ten times more uncomfortable now than they were just 12 hours ago, when you were tipsy and incredibly horny for the hot guy with wicks laughing with a few friends.

he's behind you, reflecting the smell that's somehow cemented itself into your skin even though you were only there for a few hours. you're sure your previous outfit, wherever it may be in the house boat, will reek of hobie brown when (if, truly) it's recovered.

"i'll give you a ring?" he's asking you, but you're so dizzy from the slight rock of the boat and the hangover and the insanely impractical shoes, so you're too busy focusing on making it to the dock that you say, "huh", before you truly hear him, the repeat of the phrase becoming clear in your head.

"yeah. i'd like that." you say over your shoulder, sure that your foot will reach the dock and not the small gap between. but your depth perception is a little off as it turns out and your foot connects with air, leading to you tripping a little, a small squeal leaving your lips until your foot finds the dock.

you try to play it off, clearing your throat and walking off of the boat and back onto land with a confident pep in your step. but you hear hobie snickering behind you, and then if that isn't bad, a posh voice comes off to your right.

"dear, it happens all the time, you wouldn't believe it." and when you look over, you see an older lady, sitting on her version of the porch, drinking out of a mug. she smiles politely, sending a wave with her wrinkled hand, one you shyly return.

as you walk away, you hear hobie's enthusiastic greeting ("morning, margaret" even though it’s 2 in the afternoon) and the low chatter of the two making plans is what soundtracks your walk towards the road, in search of a cab back home.

Like, I understand the purpose here was most likely to make Hiromasa acquainted with Douman and notice how she and Seimei perceive the “entertainment” differently but the way it happened is so funny. Seimei brings him along “just because” and has her call him out on it. She expects to have a typical games night with her rival (or whatever they call each other) but suddenly there’s a whole ass new man in the building with them. So she has to summon one of her shikis to keep him occupied. Terribly entertaining AND she gets to rise eyebrows and question Seimei about it. AND the funniest part is that Seimei doesn’t even have an answer for her??? Both of them are so down bad for different reasons it’s taking me out. A+ show purely for how their dynamic works

I just love the fact that Hobie used to be a model

and he just fits the runway model look so well. he definitely modeled for some underground brand that was just getting its feet off the floor and he loved the designer so he said “sure” when asked to model, even though he had like no experience. and the show was cool and shit and he got to keep some of the clothes, but it wasn’t a scene he was all that interested in. but him and the designer are still cool !
