Sonic's Next Emotional Arc: Skepticism and Doubt
IDW SPOILERS – Read up to the latest issue (41, at time of writing) or at least issue 40 before reading this.
I keep seeing arguments about how “Sonic and company don’t even seem impacted by the severe stakes of the Metal Virus and the pain they experienced.”
In the nicest way possible, that’s absolute cap. Here’s why:
When I first read Belle’s introduction in the Chao Races arc, I thought Sonic’s standoffish nature towards her (especially how he held his reservations through the following two issues) was out of character for him, but now, I think it makes complete sense (and is genius on the part of Evan Stanley).
Why?
Sonic was waiting for her to turn on him, just like how Mr. Tinker did.
I’ve spoken at length about Sonic’s emotional intelligence, so I would bet real-world money on the fact that Belle’s denial of her creator and her overall appearance clued Sonic in immediately – when he asked about who built her, he was referring to Tinker from the start.
Sonic’s friendly by nature, which is why he’s so chummy with her after Tails makes a case for her. The same idea goes for while they’re in battle, where Sonic’s attention and priorities are heavily shifted. Otherwise, however, notice how he’s crasser with her in his dialogue.
Tumblr media
Note the distinct lack of apology from Sonic (by design; an explanation is not an apology and he knows it) and the elliptic pause.
Tumblr media
Here, Sonic gives in rather begrudgingly, but his tone changes from actively defensive to teasing (a level down in Sonic’s defence mechanism – “a step above Eggman," I’ll call it), where he’s not comfortable really chatting with her but will riff off her, instead.
Tumblr media
Once in the company of his friends, Sonic is more willing to keep her around, especially with someone else. Once again, when Sonic isn’t playing tour guide, his demeanor resets and… he’s confused; lost in thought until Amy requests his attention.
Tumblr media
Here, note the realization within Sonic that Belle is here to stay, as well as his apology (with a distinct lack of an explanation – this is especially important).
Sonic finally accepts that Belle will be good for his friends and for their cause, but he doesn’t tell her (or anyone) his thoughts because 1) he senses that Belle 100% is in denial and isn’t ready to face certain facts (something Sonic, himself, is familiar with), and 2) he recognizes that he has no right to instill within Belle the same doubt he’s been living with since issue 1 (at an absolute minimum, too, given the history of this damn hedgehog).
Eggman, during the climax of the Metal Virus arc, has an amazing one-liner that sets up Sonic’s current emotional arc, in which Sonic won’t be so trusting of new faces and new situations. In the moment, Sonic tries to brush it off, but such little details – the retraction of his ears and his sweat – give his genuine discomfort away, because Eggman is right.
Tumblr media
Sonic’s biggest desire of Eggman is for him to be a better person – something Sonic knows that Eggman is very seriously capable of, both through the existence of Mr. Tinker upon complete amnesia and by the historically significant grace periods that Eggman goes through to aid the greater good (Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic ’06, and Lost World, to name a few examples).
Tumblr media
Side note: reread issue 23. Sonic is genuinely at his most desperate, and it's raw and painful and good. Easily a standout issue in the Metal Virus arc.
Sonic’s choice to spare Mr. Tinker is one he’s done nothing but defend whenever it’s been brought into the discussion, but in private, Sonic doubts his decision and feels immense guilt and responsibility for the losses his friends have seen and experienced to the Metal Virus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember, too, that this comes nearly right after an approximate seven-month war that Sonic’s overzealousness (and subsequent defeat and capture) effectively started. We also see post-Metal Virus that Sonic seems significantly more protective of his friends compared to the start of the comic. He’s hyper-aware of his place in the world and in their lives, and he wants nothing more than to protect them – his somewhat-awkward, non-verbal communication of how much he adores them (Tails and Amy, especially).
Tumblr media
Also, a very sweet detail here on the left: Sonic pushes Amy’s and Tails’ heads down to protect them from being waterboarded, and immediately, Amy goes to do the same for Sonic. Those two are so pure in their connection - whatever that means to you - and Amy is best girl (and y’all can @ me lol).
In a way, Sonic’s actions as of late have been the direct cause of a lot of very serious problems, and Sonic isn’t so ready to make another grave mistake. Belle was (and is) a living, walking, talking, and sentient reminder of what could be Sonic’s biggest regret and point of eternal conflict – the point of reflection in which he realized the absolute pain he put his loved ones through.
However, despite all of this, Sonic isn’t ready to give up hope. He’s changing his tactics up a bit, which shows his growing emotional maturity, but he still wants to believe that everyone can be good, that every problem can be solved, and that every person can be redeemed – including himself.
I want to share another excerpt from Japanese Sonic X. At the end of episode 38, after Sonic and Shadow save the planet from the falling ARK with seconds to spare before the point of no return and irreparable damage, this exchange between the president’s aid and the president’s driver (Sam Speed) occurs:
Tumblr media
Sonic’s unparalleled optimism has been a core characteristic of his for a long time, and I really like how well the IDW comics have adhered to this fact while enabling Sonic to open up and be a teenager as it’s because of Sonic’s age and development that he experiences such waves of both optimism and doubt.
Sonic has never lived in a floating timeline. He’s grown and regressed and matured through every experience he’s had. He’s a thoughtful, dynamic, intelligent character who doesn’t take anything for granted. At least, not anymore.
(and people say nice things about him – LOL).

Here’s that fic I mentioned that I started. The one where Sarah escaped the fire and ended up in hospital with trauma based amnesia and then shows up in January 2015 as Robert and Chrissie’s wedding planner right in the middle of affair era. Someone read the beginning and make me finish it at some point. Haha. I did have it mostly planned out. I just got lazy.
-----------
It’s Monday morning and Robert’s in the office, tapping his pen against the desk. He’s the first one in, hoping that shows his initiative. Tap, tap, tap turns into Aaron, Aaron, Aaron in his mind. Aaron’s all he can ever think about these days. And right now, Aaron’s mad with him, which grates on him, makes him itch for another touch, another taste that he can’t have until he gets Aaron to change his opinion of him again. He’d managed before, at Andy’s wedding. He can get him on side again. Aaron’s a challenge but he’s a people person. He can do this. And it’s not like Lachlan isn’t perfectly alright again, home from the hospital and back to being a pain and stressing Chrissie out.
Tap, tap, tap. He should be calling a client back about a shoot they want to book next month but his mind can only focus on Aaron, Aaron, Aaron.
He pulls out his phone and the taps become a text. ‘Kiss and make up?’ He writes, chuckling to himself.
It’s Aaron’s birthday today, he knows. Vic had mentioned something the other day and he’d filed away the information in his head. He hopes Aaron doesn’t have big plans. Besides, what better present than Robert shagging him senseless? He doesn’t add that to the message, just smiles and hits send. Now he has to wait.
The papers on his desk flutter as Chrissie blows into the room, wedding binder clutched in her arms. He doesn’t even think she sees him there as she starts rummaging through every stack of papers she can get her hands on, lines of frustration growing deeper on her forehead.
“Have you seen the sample that the printer sent over for the order of service?” She asks. So she did see him. He takes too long to respond, so she stops her whirlwind and stares at him. “Robert?”
He makes a show of looking around his desk before shaking his head. “No,” he tells her. “Wasn’t that the whole point of hiring a new wedding planner in the first place? So they can keep all of this stuff straight?”
She huffs at him, looking irritated, which feels like her default with him at this point. He really should do something about that, so he gets up and starts helping her look for the sample which seems to please her.
She’d fired their first wedding planner, Leyla, after the suit measuring incident. Chrissie just didn’t feel comfortable having her work so closely with her husband to be. It was ironic then that that incident had given him the motivation to seek out Aaron in the first place. He didn’t think much more on that, shifting papers around for a distraction. After that, Chrissie had taken over the wedding planning herself, which was worse, because it meant she checked in with him on everything. He knew more about floral arrangements and place cards and the food allergies of her friends than he ever wanted or needed to know. Still, it had been going alright and Aaron had often given him a much needed reprieve. Then Lachlan had gone and decided to end up in the hospital full of drugs, which was somehow his fault by all accounts and it had all become too much for her. Seating charts and dresses and first dance songs, none of it had been important when poor little Lucky had gotten himself into a mess. Still, there was a wedding to plan because despite being furious with him, he’d managed to make amends enough that she still wanted to marry him and he needed to make sure it stayed that way. All he’d worked for depended on it.
He’d suggested hiring Leyla back but she wouldn’t hear of it, especially not since Katie had been in her ear again. Instead, she’d hired someone from Hotten and he’d encouraged it. Anything that got him out of being on hand for every decision. Except maybe cake tasting, he thinks he could do that.
“I still have to show her what I’ve done so far,” Chrissie tells him, looking around frantically. “She’s coming here in half and hour. I need that sample.”
“Then we’ll find it,” he placates her as his phone buzzes in his pocket.
He pulls it out to see ‘A’ pop up on his screen. It makes him smile. He can’t help it but he quickly forces the corners of his mouth down before Chrissie sees.
‘You think that’s all it’s going to take?’ reads the reply when he opens it.
His fingers are tapping out a response before his brain can even tell him not to, ‘oh I think you know I can do so much more than that.’
His body is singing with nerves as he waits for a reply.
“I expect you to be here when she arrives,” Chrissie says pointedly once she’s noticed he’s stopped going through the motions of looking for the sample.
Robert sighs. He really hadn’t planned on sticking around for her meeting, hadn’t even remembered it was happening until right now. “I uh-“ he stalls, trying to think of an excuse.
His phone buzzes in his hand again. ‘Fine. Barn in an hour. But ur not off the hook yet,’ he reads, picturing Aaron typing with that frown of his that’s not a frown.
“I’ve got a meeting,” he tells Chrissie. “I can’t.” The amount of meetings he’s lied about in the last month are getting a bit out of hand but what can he do?
“Surely this is more important,” she sounds cross with him. “Can’t Dad go?”
Lawrence can definitely not take this meeting for him. Still, he needs to keep on her good side or they won’t need this wedding planner at all. Abandoning the search, he sidles up to her, takes her hands in his and flashes that charming smile he’s perfected so well. “This is important,” he tells her, “you know it is. And I promise, I’ll make the next one and you can fill me in on every detail when I get back.” He can’t think of anything more tedious.
She purses her lips in a pout, making them look so kissable so he leans in and captures them with his. It takes her a second or two of defiance before she’s kissing him back, wrapping her hands around his waist. He loves Chrissie, he reminds himself. For a second, he thinks maybe Aaron can wait. No one is around. He could just push all of the papers off of his desk and...he moves his lips across her cheek and down into her neck, reaching out toward the desk with his hand when he opens his eyes and sees it, the sample, tucked under a file folder that he swears he looked under before.
“Here it is,” he says, pulling back. “Your print sample!”
Chrissie’s eyes light up. “Perfect!” She accepts it greedily and shoves it into her binder. “You don’t have to go right now do you? To this meeting?”
No, he thinks, licking his lips as he moves closer again, ready for more but she pushes him off.
“Robert!” She scolds him with a laugh. “She’ll be here soon, the wedding planner. You can at least meet her before you go.”
He sighs, disappointed at being denied. Sex, he’s always been good at that part. It’s the rest of making a relationship work that he’s sometimes rubbish at. “Yes, I’ll meet her,” he says quickly as another text comes through for him.
‘Well?’ Aaron asks him and he pictures him looking annoyed, glaring at the phone, a crease in his forehead between his eyebrows, but biting at his lip which always makes Robert weak for him.
“Briefly,” he tells Chrissie, giving her a hug so he can text behind her back. ‘I’ll be there,’ he tells Aaron. To Chrissie, he says, “I really can’t be late to this meeting.”
—-
By the time the wedding planner is due to arrive he’s pacing, back and forth across the living room floor much to Chrissie’s annoyance. He can’t help it though. He knows how stroppy Aaron gets when he’s late. Although, part of him enjoys the grumpiness, the part of Aaron that doesn’t just fall at his feet, that makes him work for it. He must be mad.
There’s a knock on the door and he’s hot on Chrissie’s heels as she goes to answer it, phone in his hand and ready to text Aaron and say he’s on his way. He’s already trying to think up an excuse if he’s late. Something that’s not ‘I had to meet with our wedding planner’. Nothing kills the mood more than reminding Aaron that he’s not the only one in his life.
The door swings open and Robert looks up, his phone slipping from suddenly sweaty hands and crashing to the floor. He’s sure his screen’s cracked but that doesn’t matter, his eyes are locked on the ghost in the doorway.
There’s concern in her eyes as she looks at him, concern he recognizes, remembers, has wished for, for years. It can’t be though. She’s older, but she would be. Her hair’s different, more modern, a bob with a bit of grey in it. Grey like she means for it to be there, like she’s proud of it. There’s still some of her old color too, though he’s sure it’s not real anymore. He doesn’t know if she’s real either. There’s crows feet around her eyes, that are still watching him curiously. Those are new. And then she smiles at him, maybe at Chrissie, but that smile is one he’s longed to see again, filled with the warmth of a home he’s been away from for too long.
All so familiar but what makes him certain, what makes him blurt out the word as she introduces herself, Vicky Roberts, the wedding planner, is what he sees under the scarf around her neck. It’s there for warmth, he knows, the scarf. It is January in Yorkshire after all. Underneath though, creeping along her skin up toward her jaw is the puckered skin of a scar, a burn. On the hand she extends toward Chrissie there’s another, reaching back under the sleeve of her jumper and coat.
“Mum?” The word feels heavy on his tongue and it lands like lead in the room as both women turn to gawp at him.
—-
“Robert!” Chrissie’s voice is sharp, half with surprise and half scolding him like a child for making a scene. She scoops up his phone and if he had any of his wits about him at the moment he’d be glad for the cracked screen. “What are you-?” She starts but then whispers, “Don’t be rude.”
He feels insane but it’s her, he’s so sure of it. Still, it can’t be. She’s been dead for so long. Surely he’s just seeing things.
It’s the woman in the doorway herself who makes it feel like he’s not completely lost it. “You-you know me?” She asks, her voice small and tentative.
“Well of course not,” Chrissie decides for the both of them. “Robert, darling, are you alright?”
She thinks he’s gone mad. Maybe he has but his mum is standing there in front of him, looking desperate for him to speak again.
“You’re my-“ It feels ridiculous for him to even say it again. “I think-“ he amends, “I think you’re my mum.”
—-
She’s sitting in their living room now, his mum, Sarah, Vicky Roberts, and she can’t stop staring at him and he can’t stop looking at her. Chrissie’s moving around their little bubble, bringing them tea, asking how she likes it.
“One sugar and a dash of milk,” Robert answers for her, the phrase coming back to him.
“How did you-?” his mum questions through a smile. Chrissie’s waiting, not believing him. “He’s exactly right,” she confirms.
He watches her sip at her tea and he feels like he’s gone back in time. She doesn’t remember the past though she’d told him. Amnesia from trauma from the fire she was in. She didn’t know anymore than that. Just that she’d been found on the side of the road just outside Hotten with no idea how she’d gotten there. A head wound and burns across her body had left her in a coma for months and when she’d come out of it her mind was blank and she’d been scrabbling around for some kind of familiarity ever since.
“It was a barn fire,” Robert tells her, twitching at the words as they still bring him pain. He wants to tell her everything, spew out his entire life story and hers all at once, but he doesn’t want to overwhelm her, doesn’t want to ruin this before it really begins. It feels like at any moment she could just blink out of existence and he’ll wake up somewhere, drunk and maudlin about what he could have had. What else could this be but a dream?
She’s listening intently, hanging onto his every word. He’s a link to a past she thought lost forever. “I don’t remember,” she says, her frustration clear and then, “Sarah Sugden.” She’s said it a few times now, trying see how it feels.
“You must remember something,” he says. “Where did Vicky Roberts come from?” He’s trying desperately to get her to grasp onto something too. What kind of cruel twist of fate to give him his mum back but without any of her left?
“I had to choose a name for myself and those just seemed right somehow,” she tells him. “And you’re...Robert.” She says the name with a thoughtful look and a slight grin on her face, happy that she held onto something.
He smiles back at her, beaming at the knowledge that some part of him stayed with her. “You have a daughter, my sister. Her name is Victoria,” he explains further, his voice shaking with nerves.
“A daughter,” she smiles again, working over the concept in her head. There’s sadness there too, he thinks. Sadness that she can’t remember, sadness that she’s missed out perhaps. He feels the same.
“And...An-Andy,” he trips over his brother’s name, the two syllables stinging his tongue as he thinks about having to tell her it was Andy who started the fire. He can do that himself, Robert decides. Andy owes that to her, to him.
Chrissie sits down next to him and he realizes he’d almost forgotten she was even here. She takes his hand in hers and squeezes, trying to be a comfort to him but he just feels suffocated all of a sudden. Next to her, in this house. Since he’d been back they’d been things to show off but now he feels almost embarrassed, even if his mum didn’t remember. He wonders what she makes of him, if she’s happy that he’s her son. He was always a disappointment to Jack, but never to her. He hopes that holds true now, deep down.
—-
An hour later and he’s sitting beside her on the sofa, flipping through the faded, sticky pages of an old photo album, one she had put together once. It’s surreal sitting next to her, leaning over her shoulder and pointing out memories that she doesn’t have. Chrissie sits opposite them, trying get a look at the photos. He realizes he’s never even shown this to her. Trying to get ahead, it wasn’t the best idea to show off his more humble roots.
“That’s Ollie,” Robert points at the owl in his arms. “I helped nurse him back to health and then I got so attached I didn’t want to set him free again,” he laughs, remembering.
His mum smiles again but nothing connects.
“And that’s you holding Victoria just after she was born,” he says, running his finger over the plastic page and the photo underneath.
“It’s so strange,” she stares at the picture, “seeing yourself doing things you don’t remember doing with people you feel like you’ve never met.” She pauses and does what he did, running her hand over the page before looking over at him. “Sorry,” she tells him. “These are all your memories and I can’t share them the way you want me to.”
Robert wants to hug her, tell her to take her time. Even if none of it comes back, she’s still here and alive and he’ll take that right now. He restrains himself though, not sure what she would make of him lunging at her. “Don’t be sorry,” he rushes to say instead. “It’s alright.”
“It’s not,” she sighs in frustration. “All I’ve wanted for fourteen years is to fill this hole in my brain.” She flips to the next page and stops, staring at a photo of her and Jack. Pointing at him, she turns to him again.
“That’s Dad,” he says, feeling uncomfortable when he thinks about what happened between them, what led her to be in that barn in the first place.
She stares a moment longer, lines on her forehead deepening as she concentrates on the face of the man she married once. “Jack,” she pulls the name out of thin air and Robert gasps, never so happy to hear his father’s name.
“You-you remember?” he blurts out.
She seems surprised herself, sitting up, eyebrows raised. Her mouth opens again, forming the name silently. “I screamed it,” she says, sinking back into the sofa again, closing her eyes around a memory. “I can feel it, the heat closing in, strangling my voice but I screamed his name.” Her body shudders and she reaches up to kneed her forehead between two fingers.
Again he wants to hug her, wrap her up in his arms and protect her the way he couldn’t back then. He settles on the squeeze of her shoulder, just to let her know that someone is here for her. Her eyes flutter open, startled and he’s afraid he’s made a mistake but then she settles again and leans into his touch. He feels his heart swell in his chest.
“When I hired you, Robert, I did expect you to actually do some work,” Lawrence’s smug voice shatters the moment as he sweeps into the room, an intruder.
“Dad!” Chrissie scolds him and shoots Robert an apologetic look as she flies up off of the chair and leads Lawrence back out again.
A moment and a few whispered words later and he’s poking his head back in, wide eyed yet mistrustful. Robert’s only hated him more when he was faking that heart attack and interrupting his speech at the cemetery. It takes all his self control not to go off on him as he pops back out again.
“My soon to be father in law who hates me,” he says by way of explanation.
“Oh Robert, I’m sure he doesn’t hate you,” his mum tells him and he melts. She sounds so like how she used to and he wants to drown himself in that feeling.
She seems to feel it too, some connection between them and she looks bewildered by it. He can’t imagine how she must be feeling about all of this. An hour or so ago she was Vicky Roberts, a woman with a blank past and now she finds out she has all of this family she’d forgotten. Her fingers press into her forehead again, right between her eyes, making small circles there and he squeezes her shoulder again, the only thing he can think to do.
“Are you okay?” he asks.
Bringing her hand back down to the page of the album, she shakes off whatever had come over her. “I’ll be fine,” she assures him, still staring at the photo. When she turns back to him she asks, “Jack...your dad, is-”
Robert swallows hard, doesn’t know if she remembers that they weren’t exactly together at the time. He doesn’t know how much this is going to hurt but he can’t lie to her. “He...died a few years ago,” he tells her.
“Oh,” she sighs, and there seems not to be sadness so much as frustration at a potential connection lost. “And Victoria and...uh...Andy?”
That doesn’t hurt as much to answer. “They’re both still in the village,” he says. “Vic works at the pub. She’s a chef. And Andy...he’s a farmer. Like Dad.”
She looks at him carefully, like she’s studying him. “You didn’t want to be a farmer.” It’s not a question.
His heart is in his throat. “You remember?” he nearly begs for the answer.
“It’s all so hazy,” she says, massaging her forehead again. “Like putting together a puzzle in the dark without all of the pieces. This, this is more than I’ve ever remembered before though. Being here, with you, seeing all of these pictures, it’s helping. I-I don’t-I don’t want the memories to stop.”
Robert smiles at her, his eyes tearing up. He never cries, not anymore, but having her here means more to him than anything else ever could. “I don’t either,” he agrees. “I can take you to the village, to the pub. Vic has a shift today. Maybe it’ll help.”
“I’d like that very much,” she says, her smile matching his along with the glistening tears in her eyes.
Chrissie appears in the doorway again, looking like a bit of a spare part and hating it. “Well that’s Dad sorted. Can I get anyone anything else?”
Robert stands, helping his mum up from the sofa and grabbing her coat from where it was laid over the back. “I was going to take her to the pub actually.”
“Oh right, of course,” Chrissie spits out quickly.
Reluctantly, Robert leaves his mum’s side and rounds the coffee table and the chairs and takes Chrissie’s arms in his. “You don’t mind do you? Only-”
“Of course I don’t mind,” she tells him. “Robert this is your mum. If I could have my mum back-”
“I know,” he whispers and kisses her cheek. “And thank you.”
His mum is by his side again, reaching out towards Chrissie, a hand on her arm above his own. “I’m so sorry. I came here with a job to do and I’ve-well we’ve gotten a bit side-tracked haven’t we?”
“Don’t be silly,” Chrissie assures her, a warm smile on her face. “This is more important.”
“And so is my son’s wedding,” she beams back and Robert feels his heart beat just a bit faster at hearing her call him her son. “We will reschedule. I promise.”
Chrissie nods, tears in her eyes as well as she takes in the moment, mother and son reunited, before shooing them towards the door. With a returned kiss on his cheek, she hands him his coat and wishes him luck.
—-
“I can’t believe it,” Vic just keeps saying over and over again, clutching her blue chef’s hat in tight, shaking hands. “I can’t actually- can I hug you?”
She doesn’t even let her answer before she’s flinging arms around their mum, burying her tear stained face into the folds of her jumper and scarf. For a moment Sarah freezes, unsure, but then something kicks in and she’s wrapping his little sister up in a warm embrace. Jealousy washes over him for a second before he pushes it down, feeling the acute absence of her arms around him. He wishes he had asked for a hug.
“Let her breathe Victoria,” Diane warns her off with a good natured laugh when the hug lasts a bit too long.
“Sorry, sorry,” she apologizes as she backs off, straightening Sarah’s scarf for her. “I just-“
“Can’t believe it?” Sarah finishes for her. “Neither can I. Certainly not what I expected when I took this job.”
“Job?” Vic asks. He didn’t really get a chance to explain the whole thing yet.
“She’s our new wedding planner,” Robert tells her. “If we haven’t scared her off.” He adds the last bit in, in some desperate need to gauge the situation all of a sudden.
“Oh that’s perfect, Rob!” Vic’s eyes light up. “Hey does that mean you’re actually going to give me the cake job then? Cause I’ve got ideas-“
“Vic!” He rolls his eyes. She’s been at him for a month now asking about it.
“I’d love to hear about them,” Sarah tells her, both in wedding planner and mum mode at the same time. “And of course you haven’t scared me off.”
There’s quiet voices behind them at the door that cease the moment they spot Sarah. Robert turns to see Andy there and the relaxed, warmth he’d been feeling immediately runs cold and his body stiffens. Katie’s on his arm, looking frosty. She still hasn’t forgiven him for the rings and ruining the wedding and normally when he’s reminded of it, he feels mostly smug about even if he wishes he hadn’t done it. Anything to wind her up. Now, he just feels ashamed, standing next to his mum. She’d probably have been furious along with the rest of them if she’d been here.
She could have been here, he thinks, looking at Andy. His brother might not have killed her in the end but he took her from him all the same. All the hatred he had for him back then comes bubbling back to the surface, all compressed and forced into a single withering stare. Andy has the decency to look guilty when he looks at Sarah but he hardly even bothers to glance his way, which only makes Robert all the more furious.
All these years, he could have had his mum. When Andy and Jack were united against him, he could have had her on his side. He might have done better in school, on his exams, if he’d had her there to encourage him, rather than just his dad’s disappointment hanging over him. He might not have ended up on that road near Wilson’s field, playing chicken and ready to kill his brother. He might never have been sent away, from his home, his family. So many what ifs swirl around in his head, making him dizzy.
“Hi,” he barely hears Andy say sheepishly even though he’s right in front of him.
“And you’re Andy,” she replies kindly but her expression looks a bit blank and it makes Robert a bit smug to know he has more of a connection with her than him.
“It’s so-I can’t believe-I-“ Andy stutters as he studies her. Robert sees the exact moment he notices the burn scars on her neck because his face goes white as a sheet and he blurts out an, “I’m so sorry.”
There’s tears in his eyes now and Robert’s too although his burn with hatred. Sarah looks taken aback by the display of emotion. She doesn’t have a clue and despite his anger, Robert doesn’t want to be the one to explain it to her. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to.
“I did it,” Andy blurts again, Katie hanging on his arm, trying to calm him down. The early pub goers are staring now, no one else is really there who knows the tale though.
“Did what?” Sarah asks, her face contorted in her confusion. The creases in her forehead deepen more as she tries to work out something she feels like she should remember. This isn’t one of those memories she should have though.
“I’m sorry,” Andy sobs and now Vic’s crying and Diane’s coming around the bar to comfort him and Robert just wants to roll his eyes. Andy’s trying to admit he almost burned his mum alive and they’re still falling all over themselves to be there for him. And what does he ever get? Nothing.
“Oh Andy,” Diane tries to soothe him.
Vic chimes in with an “Andy no.”
Robert doesn’t understand why his sister isn’t more upset with Andy for taking her mum away like he is. It only angers him more, his hands balled into fists at his sides, fingernails digging into his palms.
“I-I-I did it, I started the fire,” he finally gets out. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean-“
“You didn’t mean it?” Sarah’s tone is harsh and Robert feels vindicated for a moment.
“I didn’t know anyone was in there,” he tries to explain frantically. “It was-it was for the insurance. It was stupid, I know, but the farm was failing and I wanted to help Dad and-“
Sarah backs up against the bar, using it to support her weight as she sags against it. It’s too much for her, Robert can see that, trying to process it all. Andy takes a step forward, still sobbing out apology after apology but Robert puts himself between them, a stern look on his face, hoping Andy gets the message.
“I shouldn’t have come,” Andy sighs. “I’m so sorry. Please believe that.”
He pulls free of Vic’s and Diane’s and Katie’s grasps and hurries out of the pub amongst the whispers of the punters. Before she runs after him, Katie shoots him a dagger filled glare that promises him death if he makes this worse. He only shrugs at her. Let Andy feel bad for what he did. He should.
Turning back to his mum, he helps her up onto one of the bar stools and Chas who’s joined them, briefed on the situation by Diane, gets her a glass of water. She’s got her eyes closed again and he wonders if she’s reliving the fire. Abandoning some of his earlier restraint, he pulls her into a one armed embrace and she lays her head on his shoulder. He couldn’t save her back then, but he can be here for her now.
—-
“Here you are,” Marlon says brightly, as he sets out their food in front of them. He doesn’t go though, just stands there with his hands on his hips, staring. “I just, wow,” he gasps. “Oh! You probably don’t remember me!”
“No,” she replies politely, but again, Robert can see the frustration simmering underneath. “I take it I should.”
“Marlon,” he introduces himself, “Marlon Dingle. We used to work together once! Like mother like daughter I guess, but well-“
“Marlon,” Robert cuts off his rambling before he sits down and recounts their whole history. There’ll be time for that later if she wants.
“Oh, right, sorry. I’ll just let you get on,” the gangly chef apologizes and heads back to the kitchen.
Sarah hangs her head as he goes, looking a bit defeated, a bit angry at herself. Over her head, Robert shares a worried look with Vic, both of them out of their depth with this. Fingertips pinch at her forehead again, like if she massages it enough, all of her memories will come back to her. He wishes that were the case.
“I should remember,” Sarah chastises herself, staring blankly at her meal. Robert hates seeing her like this, empty. He wants to see the quick witted fire back in her he remembers from his youth. “And I should...I should go after...after-”
“Andy?” Vic provides the name for her with a gentle smile. “Katie’s with him. She’ll sort him.”
“Katie,” she says the name to herself like she’s trying to hold onto it.
“His wife,” Vic fills in the blank. “It just, it took him a long time to get over what he’d done. Seeing you, it’s just brought it all back up.” She pauses, eyes full of sympathy, letting Sarah process the information and Robert keeps his mouth shut, or tries to, managing to only let out a quiet grunt of derision for his brother. “It really was an accident though.”
An accident that changed everything, Robert curses Andy to himself as he pushes his food around his plate. He’s not hungry even though it’s lunchtime now. He should just be enjoying having his mum back but instead he can’t stop his mind from working on overdrive. There’s others in the pub now too, gawking at them. Zak and Lisa are there and Paddy and they’ve got matching bewildered looks on their faces, mouths hanging open and closing so as to not draw attention. Robert sees them though, sees another familiar face wander into the bar as well. He’d forgotten about Aaron, about their barn meeting, his useless phone still smashed up back at Home Farm. Catching his eye, Aaron fixes him with an irritated glare and one of his frowns, this one saying ‘I don’t care about you’. Robert feels his heart sink at that but even as it does, he can feel shame prickling up his spine as he sits next to his mum. He tries to focus on her, on the conversation she’s having with Vic beside him.
“-out of the barn?” he catches Vic saying.
“I’ve tried so hard to piece it together over the years,” Sarah tells her, “but I’ve blocked so much out. I barely even remembered the fire beyond the feeling of burning before today.”
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Victoria cringe at the words and an apologetic expression wash over his mum’s face. But with his divided attention, he’s still watching Aaron at the bar, greeting Zak and Lisa, having an awkward exchange with Paddy who gives him some kind of envelope. A card. His birthday, Robert remembers suddenly, remembers all the plans he had for Aaron that morning.
“Sorry love,” he hears Chas tell him, nodding in the direction of their table, “You’ve been a bit upstaged today,”
Aaron shrugs and follows her gaze and they lock eyes again briefly but he doesn’t linger on him long before moving onto Sarah. “Who is that then?”
“Sarah Sugden back from the dead apparently,” Chas says it so flippantly, barely scratching the surface on what a monumental moment this is for him. “I never knew her but it’s knocked Vic and Diane for six.” Robert doesn’t miss that she leaves him out.
Aaron doesn’t ignore him though, eyes flitting back to his, widening in disbelief and Robert can only nod to confirm it’s real. For a moment, he’s caught, transfixed in Aaron’s gaze, lost in the concern for him he sees there, and then suddenly he’s back to spiraling, the what ifs assaulting his brain again.
Beside him, Sarah notices a picture hanging on the wall. “Is that Jack?” he hears her ask.
Vic’s on hand with an answer, “Yes! You remember Dad?” Her excitement pours out of her but it does nothing to penetrate the constant barrage of thoughts swimming around in his head.
What if Andy had never lit that match? What if his mum had come home that night?
“Only bits and pieces,” Sarah tells Vic.
He hears Vic’s sigh of disappointment humming underneath more questions.
What if his mum and dad had worked things out? What if she had moved back in?
At the bar the Dingles are talking, Paddy stuttering through a story about Sarah to Chas, Chas mostly ignoring him and focusing on Aaron, asking him if he wants a birthday pint.
What if they had become a proper family again?
“-on the wall?” Sarah asks and he missed the first half. “Did he own this place?”
“Oh,” Vic goes quiet for a moment in time for another question as Aaron ignores Chas’s question about the pint to keep focusing on him.
What if his mum had been there that that summer? When Tom had been helping on the farm?
“He uh-” Vic pauses again and he can see her looking at him for help but he has none to offer.
“It’s alright Victoria,” Sarah tells her, gives her hand a squeeze, her other hand still massaging her forehead. “I want to know as much as possible. Good or bad.”
What if she had found him in his room-
“After,” Vic starts, “after you-well he married Diane.” He sees her point to the woman in question, serving another punter behind the bar. “She put his picture up after he...after he died. To honor his memory.”
-when he kissed- Aaron’s name flashes in his mind before he corrects himself - Tom?
“He was with her before,” he hears Sarah say. “Wasn’t he?”
“I don’t-” Vic stops, unsure of herself.
What if he had told her about Tom in the first place? That he liked him? What if-
“Are you okay?” Vic asks.
It’s too much, he thinks.
“It’s too much,” Sarah says his words out loud, making him swing his head back towards his mum, angry at himself for getting distracted.
She’s got her head in her hands, her face gone pale and she’s shaking ever so slightly.
“Mum!” he shouts over his own thoughts, his voice too loud. He startles her and she turns toward him looking rattled, panicked.
“Mum,” Vic echoes him, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, being a damn sight more useful than him at the moment. “Let’s get you to the back room. You can have a lie down.” She gets her up and looks toward the bar. “Diane?”
“Of course, pet,” Diane tells her, moving Dingles out of the way so she can let them through easier.
Robert abandons their lunches, trailing after them in a daze still himself. It was all too much, the thoughts swirling around in his head, all the pieces of memories flooding back into hers. Maybe the pub hadn’t been such a good idea but she’d wanted to come. She’d wanted more, he tells himself to assuage the guilt. On his way through, he brushes by Aaron, exchanging another glance, Aaron’s eyes full of worry, not for his mum but for him. Their arms brush, shoulder to fingertips and he can’t help but wish it lasted longer before he’s following Vic and his mum and Diane into the back, watching his little sister pull it together to settle Sarah down on the sofa. Diane’s getting her a glass of water and he’s just standing there like a spare part. He should be doing something, offering to call her doctor, something practical. That’s how he usually operates but all he can do is stare, thinking.
After another moment, frozen, Aaron comes through, Chas on his heels, offering help if needed. Robert can’t help thinking that Aaron should be furious with him for missing their barn meeting, should be telling him he’s blown it, that he should pull his investment from their non existent business or something, but instead, he’s just standing there, wanting to help in any way he can. And Robert wants him to.
What if she had known that he liked-what if she’d been alright with it?
“I need some air,” he says suddenly, the words barely a whisper.
“Robert!” he hears Vic shout after him but he doesn’t stop, needs to get out of there for just a minute or two.
---
He’s found himself a spot on the picnic benches, head resting in his hands, body shivering because like an idiot, he’d gone out without a coat on. It doesn’t matter though; he can’t go back in yet. Not until he clears his mind. He shouldn’t be thinking like this. He has her here now and he should be in there helping her. Chrissie should be with him but he’d left her behind and Aaron-
The bench dips underneath his thighs as extra weight is added to it, a pair of black jeans appearing next to his blue ones. Reluctantly, he looks up to find Aaron watching him. His cheeks are flushed from the cold and his gelled hair is being blown free from its hold by the wind, but his eyes are kind and Robert knows he doesn’t deserve them.
“What was all that about then?” Aaron asks him. “They’re all worried.”
“Doubtful,” Robert defaults.
“Your mum is,” Aaron says softly and yeah, maybe just maybe that’s true. He’d forgotten what that was like. “Guess now I know why you stood me up.”
There’s that frown that’s not a frown again and it both settles something in him and flips it on its head all over again. “I didn’t-I meant-” he’s stuttering like Paddy now. “I was coming and then Chrissie-she wanted me to meet the wedding planner.”
“Wedding planner?”
“My mum was the wedding planner,” he explains.
Aaron laughs, covers it quickly, but laughs all the same and yeah, if he wasn’t all twisted up inside, it probably would be funny. He can’t laugh though so instead he watches the little puffs of breath from Aaron’s laugh dance in the cold air in front of his lips before they disappear.
“Wow,” Aaron sighs, shaking his head, before he turns more serious. “What ya doing out here then, eh? I know how much she means to you.”
He does know, Robert thinks. He’s the only one that listened to him when he was upset about Lawrence ruining his speech at her memorial and they barely even knew each other then. Aaron’s always ready to listen, just like now.
“I just-” Only he doesn’t know quite what to say. “Andy was here.”
“Oh?”
“You know what he did,” Robert says. “He told her. I didn’t think he’d have the balls but he told her.”
“Shit,” Aaron assesses the gravity of the situation succinctly.
“And all I could think was what if-” he stops himself. He can’t tell Aaron all of this. There has to be some shortened version, something he can say to make it all make sense. “I could be-if he-never mind.”
Flustered, he pushes himself up from the table and stalks off, hands tucked into his armpits for warmth, getting further and further away from where he should be. His mum is here, she’s here and she’s struggling and he’s running around the village like an idiot because-he can’t finish that thought.
---
Aaron finds him on the bridge, leaning over the railing, half wishing the river was deeper so he could just jump in and let it carry him away for a while. Quietly, gently, Aaron takes the place beside him, mirroring his pose, elbows up on the railing, a small gap between their bodies that Robert dares himself to close. He doesn’t and neither does Aaron. They just stand there in silence for a while, watching the cold water below.
Eventually, Aaron speaks. “I use to play a game with myself,” he says softly. “What if my mum had never left me as a kid? What if she had taken me with her when she went? What if I’d grown up surrounded by my mad family instead of isolated with my dad?”
The word ‘isolated’ strikes him as odd but Aaron rarely talks this much so he listens.
“Would my life have been different?” he continues. “Would it have been better? Would I have been better? Less of the screwed up mess that I am?”
“You’re not,” Robert can’t help himself but say.
Aaron huffs. “Yeah well you don’t know me that well, but you’ve seen-” he pauses, curls in on himself a bit, “my scars.”
Robert thinks back to that night in that - gay bar - what he’d said before he stormed out. He hadn’t regretted it enough then but he does now, seeing the way Aaron looks when he says the words. It was just, being in that place, it put him on edge. That wasn’t him, no matter what box Aaron wanted to put him in. That was one time Aaron wasn’t listening, not properly, not about Andy and the ring. He didn’t get it but maybe now-
“What if Andy hadn’t started that fire?” Robert says. “Maybe he didn’t kill her but I lost her all the same. What if I hadn’t? She always-she always understood me you know?” “Suppose someone had to,” Aaron quips, knocking shoulders with him to lighten the seriousness of the mood. He’s grateful, despite being teased.
“My dad never did,” he admits. “Everything changed when I lost her. My relationship with Andy, Dad. I set out on this path trying to prove- what do you do when you feel like you could have been a whole different person with a whole different life if you’d just-”
“You accept the way things are,” Aaron tells him plainly. “I’ve got my mum back in my life now and we’re in a good place. You could have the same.”
“I’ve missed her,” he blurts out. “So much.”
“I know,” Aaron says, a hand patting his shoulder and pulling him towards him. “Come here.”
A hug. They haven’t done this before and it shows, Aaron’s arms awkwardly wrapping around him, one over his shoulder and one under his arm. They don’t fit at first. Aaron’s on his toes and Robert’s just standing there, too stunned to make an effort. And then, warm, Aaron’s warm and his fingers are clutching at the back of his jumper, bunching up the fabric and tugging him in and finally, Robert allows himself to let go. He buries his face into the folds of Aaron’s worn purple hoodie, hands stretching across his back and meeting in the middle as they press closer to one another. They’ve seen each other without clothes but this is the most naked he’s ever felt with him. It’s too much and not enough all at the same time.
What if his mum had known back then he’d liked Tom? What if she’d known he’d liked boys as well as girls? What if she’d accepted him? What if this could be-no-no-Aaron told him to accept the way things are. He’s with Chrissie. He loves her. They’re getting married. His mum showed up as his wedding planner. She’s there at the pub, back in his life after all this time and he’s here, wasting his time on some fling, something that’s not even real. He can’t do this.
“I can’t,” he sputters, pushing Aaron away.
He tries to ignore it, but he can’t miss the hurt on Aaron’s face. It’s better this way though, to break it off now before either of them get in too deep. And yet-he lies to himself like he has before. He’s got Chrissie and that’s enough. It’s time to go.
“Sorry,” he manages at least before he’s taking off across the bridge and back towards the Woolpack.
“Robert!” Aaron’s call follows him for a time but he just pushes onward, trying not to listen.

GENSHIN IMPACT FANFIC REC LIST II
(previous: part i)
Seaglass by Aevas
There was more to the contract than a gnosis and test of Liyue. It seemed like a simple deal five hundred years ago: so long as Morax never had a soulmate, the Tsaritsa would never harm Liyue and she would not get his gnosis. But the moment he gained a soulmate, all that belonged to him was forfeit. He thought the deal left Liyue safe—he'd lived thousands of years without a soulmate. The Tsaritsa would be dead and gone by the time she'd have a chance to collect.
Five hundred years later, Childe appears in Liyue, Zhongli gains a soulmate mark, and everything falls apart.
(The obligatory soulmate AU, featuring a Zhongli with PTSD, an oblivious Childe, and demon-worshipping cultists.)
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: I CANNOT BELIEVE I SLEPT ON THIS FIC FOR SO LONG. Read it and I mean it! I admitted initially steered clear of this fic because I wasn’t comforted with a soulmate tartali fic pre-Osial but this fic is actually post-Ostial *facepalm* The writing is phenomenal and Aevas does some beautiful worldbuilding that you typically don’t see in Genshin Impact fics. I love the dynamic between Childe and Zhongli here and the angst is real. The author writes the two as very human characters who makes mistakes, etc. and notably Zhongli struggles with the concept of Childe as his soulmate (who understandably is upset by the rejection when he realizes). They get better though. Also very plotty. A+ writing.
it's a hard rock life for us by reptilianraven
“Ah, no need to worry about that,” Azhdaha waves a dismissive hand. “There is no real Kun Jun. He’s dead.”
A leaf blows past and plaps onto Aether’s face.
“You killed him???” Paimon screeches.
“No,” Azhdaha scrunches his eyebrows. “He was dead when I found him.”
“And you just decided to wear his corpse?” Aether says, leaf still on his face.
He shrugs. “It was free real estate.”
“Azhdaha...” Morax says, sounding vaguely pained.
-
Or the one where Historia Antiqua Chapter II: No Mere Stone goes a little bit different and Azhdaha gets more time.
He ultimately uses that time to bully Morax into confronting his immortal neuroses, to make Aether and Paimon suffer, and to figure out how to get that ginger boy Morax has his eye on to make a move already.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe, Past Azhdaha/Zhongli
Notes: Very lighthearted, humor-filled fic. Love how Azhdaha is so flippant. Interactions with Zhongli and Childe are pure gold.
if there's a light at the end, it's just the sun in your eyes by moonlight_mist
Childe has a Weapon problem- specifically, that he can't keep one.
He's too reckless, too wild, and too keen on pushing his Weapon partners past their limits. He's just about ready to give up when he meets Zhongli, a Weapon who just might be the solution- so long as Childe can manage to keep his dick in his pants.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: This is a Soul Eater AU with some college/university AU vibes (?) but you don’t really need to know much about the anime. It’s a cute AU and I love the premise. Light angst but otherwise, it’s a pretty semi-plotty fic. Easter egg Kaeya and Diluc though.
To Kill A God by IlluminanceinTales
In Snezhnaya, they call them sansis—lost souls that have no guidance but themselves. It’s an apt description, given that most of the time, wannabe-Archons have to go through dozens of tests with nothing as their reference, relying solely on their wit and strength and hoping it would be enough. At least, until they survive the end of the whole game—and they might not have to undergo a painful reincarnation which feels like a hundred bones being stitched together again.
On his seventh game, Childe Tartaglia reincarnates this time in the body of a young man.
Damn, he thinks, looking down at his thin body, his slightly calloused fingers. This won’t be good when facing the other Hydro Decisions.
In a world where an Archon's position is not chosen but fought for in games, Childe Tartaglia is a Hydro Decision who's poised to become the next Hydro Archon. Of course, that's only if he survives his seventh reincarnation. All would be so much easier if it weren't for a certain Geo Archon interfering with every possible chance he gets.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: Think Hunger Games meet Political Intrigue meet Genshin Impact. Love the premise and world building that’s done. Features overprotective Zhongli and lots of Childe whump. Has one or two supplementary OCs that aren’t really important outside of plot device reasons. Warning for character death tho lmao.
Three's a Family by IlluminanceinTales
Childe finds a kid that looks just like him.
Of course Zhongli wants to keep him.
Or: How a harbinger and an archon accidentally become fathers. The kid is their wingman
Ships: Childe/Zhongli (?)
Notes: Your everyday cute AF kid fic. Fluffy as hell and super cute. Zhongli and Childe get domestic pretty quickly. Xiao gets dubbed a grandfather and begrudgingly plays along. Super wholesome.
in pitch dark i go walking in your landscape by snowbrigade
He glanced down at him, at the silvery scars peeking out from beneath his robe, and at his eyes, properly now. They were the bright blue of high quality noctilucous jade, but he could see it, an underlying darkness.
Zhongli wondered what his eyes betrayed about himself. --
Rex Lapis is dead. Zhongli, formerly known as triad leader Rex Lapis, is a detective investigating his own "death." Childe, also known as Tartaglia of the Fatui mafia, is undercover as an escort looking to kill Rex Lapis- until someone beats him to it, and he wants to know who. Goals intersecting, they form a partnership of ulterior motives.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: There’s like one scene that skews NSFW but otherwise surprisingly not explicit. Really fun AU. Like how the author addresses Childe’s reaction to being stuck with the undercover escort stuff and how the dynamic between the two develops. Pretty plotty so far.
Phantom Lines by iskendaris
“It’s a measure of one’s self, Mr Zhongli.” Childe says. “Maybe you don’t understand it since you work as a consultant, but as an ambassador from the Tsaritsa, as one who fights in her name— this is how I learn to know the measure of myself.” “I understand,” Zhongli says thoughtfully. “It is a warrior’s way, to test one’s strength against the incomparable. To find where one falls short. To find where one has risen to the challenge.”
In which Childe has insomnia, vandalizes public property and runs into a mysterious funeral consultant on his first night in Liyue.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: THE FEELS. I can only describe this as the fic where Zhongli pays Best Boyfriend Ever only to FUCK UP big time (via Gnosis deception). Poor, poor Childe. Look, he gave the boy feelings and then broke him. You can really feel Childe fall in love in this love. He also does mental swooning a lot lmao.
adventitious by Anonymous
It's said the Ley Lines remember all things that happen in this world, from the surface down to the deepest depths... But in the hidden corners where the Gods' gaze does not fall, there are those who dream of dreaming.
There's a dormant bud where Kaeya's eye once was. One day, it will bloom. (Never forget: memory is untrustworthy.)
Ships: Diluc/Kaeya
Notes: I don’t even know where to start. This is very headcanony and lore-focused. Very much concentrated on Khaenri'ah. The implications of this story is grotesque to say the least (according to this fic, Visions are the literal eyes of the people of Khaenri'ah). Warnings for eye and body horror.
Without Those Dark Memories by StrangeDiamond
Diluc awakens in Stormterror’s Lair with no memories of the past five years. Kaeya is on the trail of a rogue alchemist, with a habit of testing his chemicals on unwilling human subjects. Now, in addition to capturing the criminal, Kaeya has to shake him down for an antidote . . . and deal with an amnesiac Diluc who acts exactly like he did before their brotherhood fell apart. (Standalone Fic.)
Ships: Diluc/Kaeya
Notes: This is sort of a classic amnesia fic. I particularly really liked the way that Kaeya was written in this. I feel like the author did a really good job nailing his character and they have a way of capturing the subtle things.
Through the warmth, through the cold by strikedawn
“It’s you!” Paimon shouted with a twirl in mid-air.
“…Excuse me?"
They were drunk. Were they drunk? Was he drunk? Because Kaeya had the feeling his guests had been talking to him for a while now, but none of their words had made any sense whatsoever.
That was, until Venti stepped firmly in front of Kaeya’s desk and set his hands on the top, the better to lean over towards Kaeya and say: “For the end of the Windblume festival, Sir Kaeya Alberich, we’re going to auction a date with you.”
Ships: Diluc/Kaeya
Notes: Shortword, Kaeya gets auctioned off. Diluc makes impulsive (but good) decisions and scores himself a Date but displays an inability to do Date Planning. Venti deserves a pat on the back. Very sweet.
Hide and Seek by Kiri_Kaitou_Clover
Childe did not expect regaining his memories would bring him such frustration.
He makes the best of the situation by messing with one amber eyed consultant in anyway he can.
A reincarnated storm god wades through life in Liyue, all while screaming about one dragon god's incompetency at being human.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: Features Childe as Osial’s very exasperated reincarnation, who gets the joy of discovering that his rival/enemy Morax is not only an idiot but also broke AF. He still falls in love anyway. Contains this golden line:
"Did... did that complete blockhead really use my money in order to get me a gift that basically says that he is proposing to me?!"
(Osial was screaming. When had the other god become like this?! Had he always been like this?!)
Getting that Bread by tzitzimeme
Concubine AU where Zhongli is Emperor, Xiao is an assassin sent to kill him while disguised as a woman in his imperial harem, and the only reason he doesn't actually do it is because he pities Zhongli for being so catastrophically stupid (also Xiao falls in love).
Ships: Zhongli/Xiao
Notes: Like Xiao says, Zhongli is an idiot. Fluff and humor filled. Xiao spends a good 95% of this exasperated by Zhongli’s bullshit.
prayers for a boy by Recluse
The only way to reconciliation is fierce combat!
Hm... Come to think of it, there will be a lot of interesting news to be heard the next time we gather for drinks. Filling in the blanks.
Ships: N/A
Notes: I...don’t really know where to begin with this? It’s exactly what the summary implies...but more? I was tempted to describe this as the fic where Zhongli puts his foot in his mouth but...that’s not exactly write? I feel like this was more of a character study. It explores the aftermath of the Osial Incident and how Zhongli and Childe reconnect. Platonically...though I guess it can be read romantically.
one kind of longing, two places of sorrow by lady_peony
Zhongli's hands rest behind his back, both gloved hands clasping one another. His fingers tighten around one another for the merest moment, before he relaxes his grip.
"There is a tradition in Liyue," Zhongli says, his back still to Childe standing behind him, "of inviting out a companion to a last meal before a farewell."
A pause.
"A tradition?" Childe echoes.
"Yes."
"With a companion?"
"Yes."
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: The fic where neither of the two communicate about jackshit but go on a quiet, sad not-date before Childe leaves for Snezhnaya. Childe pulls (? on accident or on purpose, I can not tell) the equivalent of leaving the jacket in the car post-date to get date to call for the second date. Also, the author has a gift for like...writing angst...without writing angst? Like the whole fic is like brimming with everything that the characters aren’t saying but the thoughts aren’t necessarily written out BUT YOU KNOW THOSE DUMBFUCKS ARE JUST LIKE. BRIMMING WITH FEELS?
The People of Liyue by queer_occurrences
But Zhongli whispers, his low voice rooted in the back of Childe’s mind. “Changsun, the merchant, who is never too Mora-enthralled to turn away a needy child. There’s Tiantian—she will allow anyone to join the Adventurer’s Guild—she knows what it is to be desperate.”
Childe ducks away from them and hurries out over the bridge. It’s a warm, sunny day, the kind he would have complained about, whining about his delicate Snezhnayan skin. “It’ll burn, or worse, freckle. Would you still like me if I was freckled?”
Then Zhongli would say, “The people of Liyue will remember your sacrifice.” And he would wrinkle his nose.
Or: after it all goes down, Childe takes a walk.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: The author has a way with perfectly balancing angst with humor in a way that makes you cackle. There’s a lot of feels in this one. Zhongli tries communicating--Childe runs away a lot. There’s a lot of love for Liyue in this one.
cold blooded, warm blooded, hearts all the same by reptilianraven
Teyvat Petting Zoo @tyvtpettingzoo
Well would you look at that! Zhongli, our resident spinytail iguana, has gotten quite cozy with Childe, our new (and very feisty) ginger ferret! Aren’t they adorable all cuddled together like this? 😍😍😍
[Attached image shows a brown spinytail iguana curled up against a ginger ferret. The iguana’s head is nuzzled under the snout of the ferret.]

At the Teyvat Petting Zoo, Zhongli and Childe fall in love.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: ...I promise I’m not weird. This is just super cute. Cross-species love affair? Childe the ferret is very besotted. The internet is confused and the zoo keepers are just done.
a geo archon's guide to the modern era by Erina
“Morax,” Xiao says after Zhongli finishes his retelling of the incident. “He thinks you’re a weirdo.”
“No, don’t say that,” Barbatos snickers. “You’ll give him hope that this is salvageable.” He lowers his voice. “Morax, he thinks you’re a boomer.”
(In which Zhongli hibernates for centuries and wakes up in the modern world)
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: This took me, I shit you not, FIVE SEPARATE ATTEMPTS to read. Not because it was bad but BECAUSE THE SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT WAS REAL. Like, omg, just reading about Zhongli’s introduction to modernity made me want to dig a hole and die. Super funny though. Do not read in public or you will look like a lunatic. Has a...parallel (?) fic in the same series called  buy two get one archon free where Zhongli gets reversed isekai’d into an anime convention.
time flies like an arrow by Erina
He’s tired, tired of the unbreakable loop of watching his loved ones pass on, tired of getting attached only for the connection to be violently ripped away from him. He wonders if the real victors during the Archon War were those who perished, who died long before their godhood turned into a curse that chained them to the land that they were fighting for.
But that is not a problem for Childe to worry about. That is Zhongli’s burden to bear, delivered to him in a pretty package years ago in the form of a gnosis.
His very first contract.
(Zhongli and Childe, across many lifetimes)
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: This is a quiet fic. It’s this kind of slice-of-life fic colored by this overpowering sense of love and loss as Zhongli remains immortal and Childe dies and lives and dies and lives for hundreds of lifetimes, but always finds his way back to his geo archon. It’s so lovely but also unbearably sad.
Tartaglia’s Favorite Professor by GreyLiliy
The famed hitman Tartaglia of the Fatui Syndicate spends his days as the charming college student Childe. The two lives remain as separate as possible in order to maintain a flawless cover to keep the authorities off his back and to better serve the Tsaritsa.
However, new intel about a rival syndicate intersects his two lives in a way he could never have predicted.
Ships: Zhongli/Childe
Notes: Mafia AU meet College AU. Childe is somehow both a horny AF college student and murderous hitman. Zhongli gives off major DILF vibes. GreyLily somehow makes this work while also avoiding cringe. Highly recommended!

“Strictly off-the-record,” Jean says, with a small smile, “I’m really happy to see you and Captain Kaeya getting along again, Master Diluc.”
“We’re not – we’re not getting along,” Diluc tells her, indignant. “We’re working together. Unwillingly, I might add.”
“Yes – oh, yes, of course.”
Diluc stares at Jean suspiciously. “Are you laughing at me?”
Jean clears her throat primly. “I would never.”
Ships: Diluc/Kaeya
Notes: Super, super cute! Sort of reads like a first date fic except genshin impact style? Writing style is very refreshing!

kay faraday for the character thing
Hello again! I’ll try to do one or two more of these before I sleep, try to get through the other ones in the morning.
I went into AAI not expecting to love Kay nearly as much as I do. I feel like AA has a huge amount of spunky female assistants, yet it always really manages to find ways to differentiate them, make each of them feel unique and new and fun. She’s not just Maya lite, or Maya but slightly to the left, she’s really her own well-rounded deeply interesting individual.
I think part of it is just the dynamic she has with Miles, a man who one does not usually picture as having a spunky young protagonist. She brings a certain energy and life to every scene that she’s in, and her story over the course of both AAI 1 and 2. She drives a lot of the story forward, particularly in AAI, and she’s a really good foil to Miles. She’s a perfect mixture of headstrong and energetic, rebellious yet good natured.
I think that’s one of those things that does set her apart from a lot of other characters. She has this sort of strange set of morals, a very robinhood-esque perception of right and wrong (god I almost put wright and wrong what is wrong with me). It’s a more controlled chaos than Maya or Trucy. She’s a thief, yes, but she’s a noble thief. She’s way too honest about it (hello yes I am Mrs Mc Thief here to do Crime Things wait why are you mad), but it’s because she’s proud of it. She’s proud of her father, and she’s proud of the legacy that she tries to carry on.
And her backstory is worked into her personality and the stories as a whole very well. Her naive idealization of the Yatagarasu, and trying to find ways to connect with her father after his death, especially since her father’s death does create another parallel between her and Miles. It’s kind of funny actually, how differently their fathers’ deaths affected their trajectories in life. Miles wasn’t allowed to grieve, and was forced to give up a lot of the things that his father valued. Meanwhile, Kay was able to follow in her father’s footsteps, try to understand him and who he was, slightly complicated morals and all.
I actually was kind of surprised at her decision at the end of AAI2 to start trying to distance herself from the Yatagarasu and find her own path, but I do think it really does make sense. I think she still holds a lot of idealised perceptions about the world around her, and learning to find her own way in life rather than spending it trying to emulate her father I think is an important step in her maturity.
Also, her music? Her main theme? Her sad theme? She’s characterized so well and the music really captures the spirit of that. Her main theme is so upbeat and energetic, you can listen to it and imagine a sort of daredevil young woman who loves adventure. And then the shift to the sad theme.
Actually, no, I want to talk about AAI2-4. I genuinely think it’s one of the best cases in the entire series. Because you spend 2 games building on this character, building on this relationship, and then having to find a way to save Kay, to restore her to normal? I mean I do like amnesia plotlines like that, and those intense moments where a character has to show how much their willing to do to protect their loved ones, and that case really sells it. Kay, energetic, confident, happy Kay is brought so low, in so much pain, a shadow of her former self, and Edgeworth is willing to sacrifice so much just to save her even when she refuses to try to save herself. Even if every once in a while her “Oh I must be the killer I’m a horrible evil criminal” did grate on my nerves, the setup and payoff of that entire section was just really well done.
I just really enjoyed everything about her. I do wish they could bring her back for another game. She fits right in with the usual main cast, yet still manages to distinguish herself and shine while doing so.

well, i finally 100% completed hyrule warriors age of calamity in its entirety, including post game content, so i’m finally going to write a full review. beware this review will contain every spoiler imaginable so please do not click the read more if you haven’t finished the game yet and don’t want to be spoiled!
tl,dr; this game is a lot of fun despite some of its shortcomings and it’s really nice to see characters get the development they needed in breath of the wild. also a huge improvement gameplay-wise from the first game. if you’re a fan of breath of the wild it’s worth a try, just don’t expect breath of the wild style of gameplay! and if you’re a fan of the original hyrule warriors, you are going to love this a lot. ok now to get into the details. this is extremely long;
about the gameplay; it took me a while to fully adjust to the new controls and mechanics, but once i finally understood it it was so much fun. i originally wasn’t crazy about the sheikah slate runes since it was difficult at first to remember that a. i had that ability, and b. when the proper time to use it was. but when it finally clicked for me it brought a whole new interesting layer to the gameplay that challenged my memory in a fun way. it took me even longer to learn what the use of the rods were but those were great in a pinch once i figured it out. i also loved the flurry rush mechanic since dodging is a pretty important aspect of the gameplay. all these new layers added to this gameplay makes me wonder how i ever put up with the original hyrule warriors gameplay lol. something i wasn’t entirely crazy about was the wall jumping and paraglider stuff? i never really found it useful and it always just became a problem when i was trying to dodge and i’d be confused about why my character was slowly flying around at critical moments.
the camera in this game was pretty frustrating. with the more organic map & lots of tight spaces (which i’ll get more into later), the camera would get stuck a lot and you’d be unable to really see what’s going on and it got pretty frustrating at times. i wish there were some way they could fix that but i’m not sure what they could do without having the camera go out of bounds & show the edges of the map. maybe they could’ve made some of the objects that are in the middle not be things the camera get stuck on though.
i also felt like there were too many special effects going on with some enemies and attacks, sometimes it would cover up large parts of the screen & you wouldn’t be able to see what you were fighting and that was pretty stressful (i found myself frequently yelling “i can’t see!!” when i’d defeat a guardian or something in a room with lots of other enemies. this only became an issue in the later parts of the game though.
now about the maps, i do love how much more organic and natural they are. it’s a big upgrade from the original which had a lot of wide corridors leading into square rooms which were allied/enemy basses. but unfortunately, this causes issues with navigation and the camera getting stuck (like i mentioned before). i had a lot of problems where the map was too natural and i was confused about why i was getting stuck on level geometry when it looked like i could walk through there. i think the breath of the wild style makes this confusing too because you can’t really undo a thousand hours of being able to walk through nearly everything. but also it was just really unclear what was a wall and what wasn’t sometimes. i was surprised i actually had to zoom in on the mini map and look at that to move around at times. definitely an ambitious aspect of the game & i appreciate the effort and detail, but i don’t know if it works that great for this style of gameplay. i also don’t know why they bothered putting so many small details on the ground if they’re just going to pop in so close to the camera. it was kind of awkward when you cleared out all the enemies & were traveling to another location and it was the only noticable thing on screen.
speaking of ambitious, we can’t ignore this game’s framerate issues. it’s the first thing on everyone’s minds when talking about this game. most of the time, it was pretty acceptable. but they definitely pushed this game farther than the switch can go and it shows. i really appreciate the love they put into making this game as detailed as they did, but i don’t know if it was worth it in the long run. there’s only a couple times i can think of where the framerates got absolutely unacceptable, and it always seemed to be when there was a lot of electricity and enemies on screen at the same time. it happened once during the final vah naboris mission and another time where there were a ton of electric lizalfos all shooting electricity at once at the same time you have to fight an electric lynel. but, i’m not the kind of gamer that loses my shit over dropped framerates, i grew up with the n64 & have had to put up with poor early emulation many times in my life so framerates don’t really phase me until it just gets unplayable.
wasn’t crazy about how many late game missions were just boss rushes, but that’s pretty standard hyrule warriors fare. at least it was more fair in this game where most of the time you only had to fight one boss at a time and the next boss wouldn’t spawn in until you beat the first one, so there was no risk of accidentally aggro-ing a boss in another part of the map & have an unfair fight on your hands like in the first game. it was pretty anti-climactic how the seemingly final mission which had the highest recommended level was just another boss rush, and not even the hardest one (it was just a bunch of regular malice bosses in a row).
bit of a side note but i didn’t like having to grind for materials and find koroks for 100%. the koroks weren’t nearly as bad as breath of the wild though, thank god.
i’m pretty disappointed that some content that’s clearly in the game isn’t unlocked in the base game, it’s looking pretty likely that they’ll add it as dlc later & pretend it’s new content to make the game relevant again...i’ve always firmly believed dlc should be extra content that’s added in later. hopefully they’ll add some really cool stuff as dlc alongside the stuff that’s in the game & it won’t be so disappointing. there’s two characters i was sure would be unlocked as playable characters (sooga and astor) but i found it weird that you don’t get them in the post game and instead you get to play as the egg guardian (terrako) and calamity ganon???? talk about subverting expectations. also really frustrated to learn that zelda’s royal dress isn’t available in the base game but its in the files & is just missing one body part?? really hope that’s just a free update and not like, paid dlc. kind of dumb that they didn’t give the devs one extra day to model feet on the character.
about the story; the story starts out really strong i feel, i loved seeing characters get the development they didn’t get in breath of the wild and this game’s story makes breath of the wild’s story feel even more incomplete than it did before this game came out. and actually seeing the story play out in chronological order in real time without link having amnesia gave the story so much more feeling and connection. this is probably my favorite aspect of this game because i was always so disappointed with how disconnected you feel in breath of the wild because of the way the story is told. and it does so much of a better job illustrating link and zelda’s feelings. i’m probably the single most difficult person to convince when it comes to link and zelda being in a relationship or having feelings for eachother and i thought this was quite possibly the best master sword scene in any zelda game;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in previous games link has always had to prove his courage in a variety of trials spread across the land and to me its really boring, especially after how many times its been done. the thing that gets me about this scene is the master sword deems him worthy because of his desire to protect zelda even when he’s been beaten down & disarmed. that was a really beautiful moment to me & i’m glad they wrote the scene this way.
speaking of being worthy of power because you want to protect someone, i wasn’t really that crazy of zelda unlocking her power just because she loves link but honestly this game illustrated it in a much better way & i’m more down with it now. i loved this shot how it really captured what she was feeling;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s also in general awesome to see the champions in action, both in gameplay and in cutscenes. i remember being in awe the first time i got to play as urbosa. it feels like we finally really got to know them and how powerful they really were, instead of breath of the wild just telling us they were cool & we just had to believe it.
now for the part i know people say this game is shit because of; the time travel aspect. yeah, it’s a little silly and nonsensical, but honestly, it was kind of fun. and i don’t get how a time travel plot is somehow weird for the zelda series. the most critically acclaimed game of this series, ocarina of time, is entirely revolved around a time travel plot & the heroes would not have won if it weren’t for time travel in that game. yeah, it’s goofy, but this series is known for its nonsensical aspects & plotholes. there’s always some kind of unexplainable magic in this series that solves problems. i don’t think that makes this game shit. plus i was kind of starstruck when i first got to play as sidon lol. i was thinking to myself, man, who would’ve known 3 years later we’d get to play as sidon! crazy! none of the champion descendants were really my favorite to play as but it was still cool to see them & play as them.
something i didn’t understand was why kohga and the yiga clan joined zelda’s cause? i feel like a vital scene got cut. i don’t get why he’d join even when astor betrayed him, considering his group’s ambitions and how many times they tried to kill zelda. and where’d sooga go? the scene of astor betraying them kind of implied he was going to die but we never got confirmation of that, and he even shows up in a post game mission as an ally (no cutscene, just one line of dialogue during gameplay)
as for the ending, i guess it was alright? astor was a really lazily written villain and i just did not care for him at all. kinda don’t even care that we don’t get to play as him (yet, probably). calamity ganon’s design in this game was terrible. and i guess it would’ve been hard to make it work, but no beast ganon? just felt a little to easy to wrap up. despite this i guess it was nice to see hyrule get a happier ending even if it was a bit nonsensical at times. also this is just a bit of a personal thing for me but i liked seeing  hyrule before it was destroyed. it always bums me out when you find a locaiton in game that’s been destroyed & you can only think about what it mightve looked like before. this is something that’s bummed me out since wind waker (was always disappointed you don’t get to see what greatfish isle is like!!) and breath of the wild gave me so much disappointment in that aspect lol.
one final thought but it was odd to me how many lines revali got & how often he interacted with link lol. was weird to see him slowly warm up to link a little towards the end (but of course he’s still a little mean...). no other character acknowledges link as much as revali. this scene confused me the most??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there were so many other people revali could’ve spoken to. he barely even acknowledges teba who was the one who specifically came to his aid!! and the way link looks at him with big puppy eyes?? link barely makes a facial expression at anyone else! and how revali expresses gratitude for the first time in his life after looking at link’s stupid cute anime face and smiles (but he turns around because he would be too ashamed to smile at link i guess)
anyway that’s it, i finally got out all my thoughts about this game. this went on way longer than i intended and i’m sorry if you read the whole thing & it took forever lol. this game is fun, get it.

Wing it like Witches!
Let me tell you- I was WORRIED this episode would make me sad and angsty, but instead it just made me happy and all warm inside! I know that sounds super-corny but like…
I LOVED this episode! I was worried from the promo pic that Boscha’s bullying would really get to Luz, Gus, and Willow, but… It didn’t! I mean, it still got to WILLOW hence the entire episode, but otherwise Luz and Gus were less “Wow I’m really being reminded of my insecurities from bullying” and more “I can’t believe she ACTUALLY did that. She wasted her entire school day doing that. This girl is NUTS, is she okay back home?”
(The more I see of Boscha, the more I have to wonder if she IS okay back home… Obviously not crippled with self-loathing to the extent that Amity is, but never mind.)
What’s really surprise to see though; LILITH IS A RED-HEAD!?!? I remember seeing that first pic of young Eda with two other classmates, one of whom was obscured and the other had glasses; And I thought, is THAT girl Lilith, could it be? Is the girl with the obscured face the one who stole Lilith’s lunch money, potentially that favorite character from Season 2 that Dana alluded to? My mind is racing, but either way young Eda and Lilith are utterly adorable! I do have to wonder if what Lilith had to say about Eda’s bad memory was just a jab, or something more… Given that the show has alluded to Eda possibly having amnesia with MORE than just her curse…!
Speaking of which; LILITH AND EDA GETTING ALONG! Well, sort of- I mean they’re technically adversarial by the end of this episode, but only technically. Lilith knows where the Owl House is, finally; And we get to see in this episode just how capable Hooty really IS as a security system, surprisingly enough! He even manages to capture LILITH; Though to be fair, she may not have been super-invested in the mission given this was her sister we’re talking about, but still! Coupled with Hooty mercilessly tearing apart those toys in Adventures in the Elements, and I have to wonder if he’s ever, like… KILLED people before, y’know?
…Maybe I don’t want that answer. Regardless, I love Luz’s little cheeky interference with Eda’s game, but Eda still manages to win by her last trick; Just pure, genuine skill and talent! That was a twist, I was expecting Eda to have another cheat or to be caught by Lilith, but as I said before… Eda isn’t humble, and for a GOOD reason! Lilith ain’t no slouch either, and I love that King willingly donned a cheerleader outfit just to offer support! I mean, maybe Eda MADE him, but otherwise he didn’t seem to have much of an issue so long as it was just at home!
And… I LOVE the little small moments between Eda and Lilith, where… Lilith KNOWS she has to turn her sister in, she’s getting desperate, but it’s also low-key breaking her heart to do this! And when she loses the match and just… FALLS on her knees in despair, questioning herself, and Eda picking her up? Giving her that signature ring, just to make Lilith look better? I… I LOVE these sisters, why can’t they make up?! Lilith isn’t even aiming to imprison Eda, she just wants her to join the Emperor’s Coven and continue doing stuff alongside her, like old times!
And Eda… Eda still needs her autonomy, but she knows that Lilith isn’t some cruel person. She knows that Lilith loves her sister and wants the best, that she’s in a terrible position; Eda knows how stifling the Coven System is, and while being beneath Belos provides a lot of power… It also provides a lot of PRESSURE as well! Sure, Lilith chose this… But Eda still believes that Lilith is deserving of kindness and compassion!
(Let me tell you, considering I don’t think we’ve seen any Eda clips past this episode, I was LEGIT afraid she’d get captured by the end… thank goodness!)
What’s also fascinating to note is that Emperor Belos was in charge since fiftyyears ago; Given the speculation that Eda isn’t as old as she looks, this indicates Belos is PRETTY old himself, by a large margin; Especially when one considers how long-lived Bump is! It’s a small moment telling us how he established the Coven Heads five decades ago, but I really appreciated it; And in general, this episode seems to be our final, light-hearted breather before we get into the REALLY heavy stuff… Keep in mind, our last two episodes were originally planned to air side-by-side, like a two-part season finale! On a lesser note, we see the Heximal System teacher giving a History lesson, confirming what I suspected earlier; That some subjects include students from all tracks, simply because the subject-matter applies across any and all covens, and History is one of them! Love the small world-building here!
Given how we don’t see anything else of Willow and Gus past that scene in Belos’ treasury, I have to wonder… What if those two get captured, and only Luz can escape? Amidst King –and possibly Eda- being taken as well, Luz might be looking at a one-man operation here! Which just makes her all the more impressive… Like looking at her now, even if she DOES lose against Lilith; She’d still have been going toe-to-toe with the Head of the Emperor’s Coven, even if only briefly! Luz has come a far way away from where she started as just a powerless human, and has amassed FOUR glyphs; Light, Ice, Plant, and Fire!
And BOY HOWDY is she good at them! Seriously, I bet she could’ve easily beaten Boscha in a Witch’s Duel if she wanted; Though it’s worth noting that according to Willow, Grudgby is apparently the only language she speaks… Given that shot of her room at the beginning, I have to wonder if that’s where her MAIN self-worth lies in! In the beginning Boscha acknowledges to herself that she’s hated, ‘so long as she is feared’; And her monologue low-key gives me, “Doesn’t know how to make friends so copes by putting herself above everybody else and overinflating her own self-importance under the impression that people are just secretly jealous!” vibes. (In some ways she’s like Grace from Infinity Train…)
That aside, I just get a sensation of pride from seeing how adept and adaptable Luz is, and the way she learned Fire from Boscha of all people –Which I called!- is both hilarious but goes to show what kind of a learner she is… I feel like Eda, like we’ve watched our kid grow and get stronger and I can’t WAIT to see what she pulls off next! Amidst her learning Magic and then defying the Coven System… you go Luz, YOU GO!
And, it seems I’m not the only person who shares this sentiment! Even after Boscha’s bullying, we don’t see anybody beyond her gang make fun of Luz and co.! When Willow gets trashed poured on her, some students are watching, but… They seem kind of disturbed by it all? They’re not outright vouching on her behalf like Luz, possibly because Boscha is watching; But still! It is SO cathartic to see Willow being beloved by the entire school like that, even if she’s keeping her friend-circle to a select few; People LIKE her, and it’s what she deserves! Like Luz, I’m SO proud…!
I’m still disappointed we didn’t get the names of Boscha’s other friends, but I really like their inclusion here! I liked how they all seemed rather uncomfortable with seeing Luz forfeit, only to be made Boscha’s target practice; And how Luz is so bright, bubbly, and infectiously-cheerful, spreading her good will to others! Like, this girl is TOO kind, and so loving… She has no bounds and I love how those other girls are even affected by Luz, genuinely enjoying her and wanting to be friends, alongside having Willow as a teammate! I have to wonder if they’ll ditch Boscha after this… Or at the very least, try to talk her down as friends of Boscha that she actually cares about and vice-versa (compared to Amity, who has always been cold towards Boscha, hence why her talking wouldn’t have made a difference)!
Speaking of Amity… C’mon, girl. Your CRUSH is showing, the way you’re getting flustered, imagining seeing Luz in a ‘cute’ uniform and everything… Gus being utterly confused, but you can tell that the gears in Willow’s head are turning and honestly; She’s all for it, likely! I think this is the first time Amity has had an ACTUAL crush on someone she can talk to, instead of some distant figure or a fictional character! It’s so heartwarming seeing her navigate it, getting to actually deal with feelings like a kid is supposed to be allowed to do! And Luz being clueless… That, or she thinks Amity is into WILLOW, which makes a lot of sense too!
(After all, Luz knows that her parents wouldn’t approve of her being Amity’s girlfriend… But Luz, you have NO idea how much she cares, she literally loves you more than she fears them! And Amity, knowing that her parents wouldn’t approve and struggling with this no doubt, but her love for Luz is really shining through over all of that!)
To put it simply; Luz is FRIEND-shaped, she’s lovable, there’s no escaping liking her! Maybe Boscha will always be a bully, and I know one might call it ‘cliché’… But honestly I’d love to see Boscha eventually warm up to Luz and HER infectious positivity as well! Also, I saw that twist with the Rusty Smidge coming from a mile away, and I love how Luz low-key gets into a genuine rant over it! Although the loss doesn’t matter, as Luz’s team was clearly more adept and Boscha’s friends don’t seem interested in forcing Luz and her friends to do all of that other stuff…
Anyhow, I love seeing Amity stand up for her friends, and when she says that her social life has improved because she’s with Luz, in spite of Boscha’s claims… I really CAN see her standing up to her parents, sometime later! I speculated a while back that depending on how her and Luz’s relationship in Enchanting Grom Fright goes, it’d really impact what Amity does later down the line, and I was right! But it IS worth noting that Amity may not yet know that Luz has to leave… King and Eda know, and the former mentioned this in front of Willow and Gus! It’s possible that Luz has laid out her plans to return every summer (and during winter break and whatnot), which would definitely lessen Amity’s angst by an infinite amount! And seeing as how she has instantaneous access to the Demon Realm, who’s to say she can’t pop in every day, after school! Sure she might not be actively living in the Owl House anymore, but otherwise…!
On another note with Amity, I love her and Luz getting to geek out over The Good Witch Azura, and it’s funny to see the show confirm what I wondered about earlier; About Amity secretly making Azura references in public, under the knowledge that nobody would recognize them and realize she’s a nerd… But LUZ does now, and the two can bond! Also, Amity getting to have fun with Luz and co. at the end, being CARRIED by Luz, fully accepted into the home… I know you also have the library as a safe space Amity, but you’ve also got the Owl House as well! And it seems Hooty bears no grudges, either!
Also, someone speculated recently that Amity has her goth-sense from Lilith… and given the implication that Lilith dyed her hair, I can REALLY SEE IT! I’m disappointed we didn’t get any interactions between the two… But the way it was set up, I feel like if Eda and Lilith were there they’d be too busy cheering on their kids respectively! Or not, we’ve seen them prioritize their feud in Covention… But back then Luz and Amity weren’t on the same team!
Back to Amity, it’s interesting that she used to be on the Grudgby team, and was good at it, even being CAPTAIN when Boscha wasn’t; But then explicitly quit when she accidentally hurt some of her ‘friends’ merely once. Even if she never cared for them in the past, even if this was before she met Luz and learned to be kind and open again… She was ALWAYS someone who was self-conscious of her actions! And sure, the issue is that Amity is a LITTLE too self-conscious, constantly berating herself, holding herself accountable for every mistake… But regardless, it says a lot how guilty she feels to have hurt her teammates, even if it was an accident and a one-time incident that resulted in victory!
I’ll probably do ANOTHER post about it later, but it says a lot; How Amity feels like she should step up as a Blight, and she DOES outshine the others… But because of that inherent guilt but also compassion, she actually quits Grudgby out of guilt! Which leads me to the idea that even if she tolerated Boscha and co., she wouldn’t have wanted to hurt them; Again, because she’s critical of herself, but also because Amity isn’t cruel and it may have reminded her of how she treated Willow! I have to respect and fear for Amity on quitting Grudgby after that…
Again, I think she has the issue of being too overtly-critical of herself, and that it’s honestly THE issue that defines her problems; But on the other hand, I feel like Amity’s parents would’ve been displeased to see their star child quit the team, just for hurting some ‘lesser’ witches? I’m scared for what may have happened to Amity, but it also says a lot that she made a potentially defiant move simply because she didn’t want to hurt yet another friend…
(That, or her parents wanted Amity to focus on Abominations and other studies, and coupled with Amity’s guilt, it was the perfect opportunity to get her off the team. Which would be sad, but not surprising.)
Anyhow, I just think it’s interesting that Boscha and co. don’t ever seem to have any resentment towards Amity until recently. It’s possible Boscha DID dislike Amity up until she stepped down… But it makes me wonder if Boscha, like, looked up to Amity and wanted her approval and attention? Given how she’s always framed as following Amity… Perhaps Amity stepping down led to Boscha taking the spotlight, and so Boscha feels indebted towards Amity for her fame (and potential source of self-worth)?
Last but DEFINITELY not least; Somebody else (I’m sorry I keep forgetting) alluded to how in Understanding Willow, there was the issue set up of Luz meaning the best for friends… But also sometimes invading their privacy, or overriding what they want, so she can live out her fantasies at the same time! And, like- A big part of her IS doing this for her friends, that much is clear… But Luz does have an issue sometimes with clearing fantasy from reality! It’s a more advanced lesson from the one she learned in Episode 2, continuing off of that, and I LOVE it!
Like, I really do LOVE how Luz recognizes in this episode that even if a part of her is motivated in helping Willow, she’s also using this as a chance to live out her underdog Azura fantasies, and how Willow points this out to her… and Luz realizes that she’s right! She actively MAKES a change to her behavior, and makes up for it by fixing Willow’s hairclip and even forfeiting on Willow’s behalf and taking all the punishment… All because she doesn’t want her friend to be uncomfortable! Man, Luz is SO ridiculously kind, I keep saying she’s my favorite but she REALLY IS! What a lovable dork, no wonder Boscha and her friends are falling for her!
(Also RIP Skara, you were the fourth one in a team of three. Although given how she helped carry Luz and Amity in the previous episode, amidst already having more screen time… I can see this as a way for the writers to give more of a spotlight to Boscha’s other friends, while subtly acknowledging that Skara likely has gotten over her bias towards Luz and the others. I wonder if Boscha also noticed and that’s why she was left out; That, or she’s the least-skilled? I dunno, but it was neat to see and I’ll overanalyze the moment regardless!)
On a lesser note; Willow’s last name is Park, which is a Korean surname! Coupled with her VA’s ethnicity and Willow/Tati Gabrielle being listed amongst other Asian rep characters and VAs, and I think it’s safe to say that she’s the Boiling Isles equivalent to Asian; Which let me tell you, is VERY nice to see!
Overall, this was an AMAZING episode! It was a heartwarming, feel-good episode that reaffirmed character relationships and love while still expanding on them, adding in more friends to the group… It was pretty much nothing but happy moments and revelations! Obviously things are setting up in the next two episodes to go REALLY crazy, especially with Luz potentially getting banned from Hexside for defying Lilith and Belos… But it’s clear to say that she’s left QUITE the good impression on the administration and students! And I can see some even vibing with Luz’s ideas even after she gets kicked out… Perhaps Luz will unknowingly start a rebellion of sorts?

Edser / Sen Cal Kapimi ep 30+ asks
(Asks under the cut)
@jan31 Hi Liza, in the fragman Selin was in a white dress, was it a wedding dress?
Hello! I don’t think so. I think that’s what she was going to wear to the dinner she’d planned for the four of them (from the fragman, Eda, Serkan, Deniz and herself) but BOOM goes the MELO. Thank you Melo, lock that witch away so Serkan and Eda are not haunted by her evil presence, and can maybe spend some time together.
Though, you know, I wouldn’t mind if it was a wedding dress. We know Serkan ain’t gonna marry her, so if they go so far as to put her in a dress, then we’re on the precipice of her humiliation and departure which can’t come too soon for me.
jan31 Hi Liza. Please can you explain to me the fireside scene. It was so beautiful, emotional and just what we needed. Were the lights going out representing his sub conscious and the darkness he feels, reaching out for Eda instinctively without realising why. And the lights coming on was the reality that he did not remember anything. Or am I completely going in the wrong direction? Oh and the music gets me every time 😢😢
That scene fired on all cylinders!! I definitely think you’re on to something thinking the lights coming on represented the reality of him still not having any memories back. I think the whole scene was Serkan trying to reconcile this one flash of memory that has been playing in his mind like a movie. He was re-enacting what he saw in his mind, trying to figure out if it was a real memory and if the real memory was about Eda.
I really liked that it was Serkan who asked if they can talk without arguing. Being the calm, rational one is his role in their relationship, how many times have we heard him say “sakin” so it was comforting to see him taking those reigns for a few moments. Also for him to realize that almost all their exchanges had been heightened and fraught with explosive emotions and wanting to talk to her without that.
Both Eda and Serkan with their eyes filled, brimming with tears really got to me. Serkan not really understanding as his heart took over and tried to make sense of what his confused mind couldn’t. Eda’s complete heartbreak when he still didn’t remember anything. However, though, she might not know it, he certainly felt something.
He’s already so drawn to her and he can’t compute why that is... why he fell in love with her during the time he can’t remember, but he’s slowly starting to see how it could have happened. This was an important scene for bridging that gap between them. So freaking beautiful, one of the best acted scenes of the entire series, and the scene that made this episode worthwhile.
Anonymous said: if that scene in front of the fireplace made me so emotional and it was just him trying to remember.. trying to recreate that one moment he was flashbacks of... i cant imagine what the actual scene of him remembering will do to me. both their acting in that scene was something else.
Hande and Kerem were both absolutely fantastic in that scene. Really stellar. Their chemistry never disappoints, but here they were both right in the moment, very raw, very real. I’m impressed with the emotional range they both showed, kudos to both. If nothing else this story is giving them a lot to chew on as actors.
Anonymous said:  memory loss doesn't bother me that much if we can have beautiful scenes like the fireplace one. but the main couple is separated again, dating/fake dating other people and they don't have scenes enough to fall in love again
Well they made huge strides in two episodes. From Serkan not willing to even contemplate remembering her, to him sitting down and asking her to tell him a memory of their relationship and saying he wants to know about her and their love. And them having an absolutely beautiful, emotional, heartbreaking moment together.
Serkan made other leaps as well. He went from wanting Eda out of the business to admitting she had talent and freaking out that she was planning to take a vacation. He was already coming up with every excuse to keep her in town and working. They argued as they did in early days, he had moments that obviously hit him as familiar (”I hate you Serkan Bolat.” “The feeling is mutual, lady.”) plus lemons and crusts.
Don’t you worry, he’s already falling in love with her again.
However, I wouldn’t judge what they’re planning too much by this episode. It felt like a transition episode and was pretty unevenly paced. Perhaps the claims of rewrites on this chapter had some truth to them. Because the last 4 episodes were pretty well written, narratively solid, and well paced, and this one was not. It was boring and everything not directly related to a scene where Eda and Serkan were alone was lackluster.
Also I feel like some things were changed and perhaps removed to make allowances for Hande’s injury. She had a strained neck and was in a brace for almost the entirety of the filming of this episode. For instance, I’m pretty sure they did fewer takes with her in several scenes. Specifically you can tell in the scene where Serkan picks her up and carries her back.
We go no full wide angle shot from the front of him carrying her to match with the scene in episode 5. I’m sure they wanted that, but I’m guessing they really had to limit the takes of him picking her up so they couldn’t do multiple camera set ups.  The still photographer on set was able to capture it from the front, it’s a shame they couldn’t get the full hero shot for the show, but poor thing was injured and these things happen when you shoot on such tight timelines.
So some of the lack of Edser could have been scenes that were shortened, cut, and amended due to that injury. And others could have been changes in the script perhaps as they figure out if they’re getting another ep order from Fox.
Anonymous said: idk what they’re doing with Ceren but I really need them to keep Deniz as a genuinely good friend. He’s perfect and I don’t want them to make him sketch. Not sure if you’ve seen OTH but that’s the only other show I’ve seen with a great male-female friendship. Other parts of the show are messy to me right now but I’ve been loving this.
I guess my opinion would be unpopular with you, but I am not as enamored with Deniz as others seem to be.  Dude was putting a LOT of pressure on Eda to move on and forget Serkan. Serkan has been back approximately 3 days! HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND HAS AMNESIA. Can the woman have a chance to catch her breath and assess the situation, before her “good friend” is pressuring her every which way to forget him??  And planning romantic getaways under the guise of friendship? That’s not being a friend, that’s being an opportunist, looking for his chance to slide in there.
So, yeah, I’m not as impressed as most seem to be with Deniz. He made me uncomfortable with that. I hope it was not a harbinger of things to come.
As for OTH, I haven't really watched, but its a fav or my bud @echoapothecary so she might be willing to discuss that show.
Anonymous said: Any chance they decide to throw Melo and Ferit together? I don't care about any of the other side romances going on but these two still have their rights in my book in regards to Edser and they seem like genuinely people?
Let’s do it, baby! I’m on board They both are genuinely good people, and I’m with you, I don’t care about any of the side romances at the moment. Piril and Engin put me to sleep this episode.
Ferit certainly deserves better than psycho Selin, but he also deserves better than petulant Ceren. And while her behavior escalated to WTF levels this ep, she’s always leaned a little this way. I think it was episode 18 (because the girls were in the library before Serkan finds Eda there) that Ceren was furious at Ferit all episode and I honest to goodness had no clue why or what he did.
Anonymous said: at first sçk was about women supporting women and we have one best friend turning against the other FOR A MAN. I'm so disappointed the writers are destroying characters one by one.
No this show has always been about the love story between Eda and Serkan, but it did have some nice female relationships as well. Can I tell you a secret? While I really like the girls dynamic, and hope they don’t destroy Ceren and Eda’s friendship, I really only care about 2 characters, and that’s Eda and Serkan.
So while I get your concern, and Ceren acted OUT OF HER DAMN MIND this episode, if she needs to be a casualty to keep things moving, so be it.  I mean I reserve the right to roll my eyes over it, but I’m not going to get too worked up about it. From the beginning Eda and Serkan were the only two characters that matter and they still are.
Anonymous said: I'm kinda concerned that they're actually going to say the next episode takes place on Valentines Day because this would be the biggest timeline error yet. I know we've already been suspending belief here after they touched on New Years so quickly but umm, yeah....
I think you have to just give over to the timeline on this show and not do any math or calculations. We already had July to December take approximately 2 months in straight linear storytelling, LMAO.
Also, if it is valentine’s day and that’s going to be their excuse to give us some actual romance, then I will take it, no complaints. To me that’s one of the easiest things not to be concerned about, because its never going to make sense. I’ll take the holiday themed episodes over strict adherence to the calendar any day.

The sweat rolled down your cheek, raced across your neck, and fell to the ground with the grace of a cheetah. Or perhaps a swan would be a better analogy here. Lisa, the choreographer, clapped her hands together, a tight lipped smile on her face. You hesitantly stepped off the raised platform. Jimin stepped around from it as well.
“No, no, no, you guys need to be able to capture the emotions of this scene.” Lisa snapped, massaging the crease between her brows.
“Listen, this scene is where, for the first time, the black swan trusts her lover enough to let herself fall. Yes, it’s a metaphor, yadah yadah, that doesn’t matter.” The woman sighed. “Come on, just get it together.”
“I can’t help it, I’m nervous. You’re asking us to do a trust fall on stage. How do I know he’ll be there to catch me.” You whispered softly.
“Is that not the point of a trust fall, Y/N?” Lisa snapped shut her notebook and shouldered her bag.
“Class dismissed, don’t forget to stretch.” Then the teacher turned to you with a sour expression. “Really, Y/N, it’s not that bad.”
You just dipped your head, not one to argue with the teacher. A warm hand landed on your shoulder and you jumped, having forgotten you were not alone. Also, Jimin was known for moving rather quietly. The other students were stretching and packing up.
“Can you help me stretch?” He asked, his voice sweet and soft. Jimin was always soft.
“Yeah, sure.” You quickly agreed, following him to an open space. He stretched out his legs in front of him and you pressed on his back. He groaned in relief.
“That’s good, thanks.” He praised you, making your stomach flip for an unknown reason. You pressed a little harder and he released a long breath.
You were busy thinking about the routine in your head. You needed to leap onto the raised part of the stage, Jimin trailing behind, and fall backwards, trusting he’d be there. The problem? You didn’t trust him. It wasn’t that he was a bad dude or anything, you just didn’t really...understand him.
“You can trust me, Y/N.” He said softly as you readjusted your position. His words pulled you from your thoughts.
“I know.” you answered hesitantly. He seemed pleased with that and slowly stood up. You eased off his back.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Y/N. Take care.” The man smiled sweetly and shouldered his bag, exiting the room.
Tumblr media
“5, 6, 7, 8,” Lisa clapped to the beat. Her shouts were drowned out as you focused on the routine. You knew your routine, you just hoped Jimin did as well.
You leapt onto the raised platform, the heat of the lights beating onto your sweaty forehead. A few wisps of hair curled onto your forehead. You did a pirouette and then sharply inhaled. You better be there. You thought to yourself as you pretended to lose balance.
You gracefully tipped backwards at the other end of the platform, only to yelp in surprise. The music cut and, in a daze, you slowly sat up. You had fallen. Well, not really. Jimin was uselessly holding onto your arm, just a few moments too late.
You blinked a few times, seeing his face peer into your peripheral.
“Oh my god, are you okay? I’m so sorry.” He sputtered. “I’ll practice it more. I swear you won’t be dropped again!”
Your eyes scanned his distraught expression and you decided to forgive him, though the seed of doubt had been planted. Lisa was calling for a water bottle and to turn down the lights, probably thinking you were a little out of it.
In contrast, you were wide awake, alert, and aware of yourself. Could you trust him to catch you? The thought was swallowed and rested uncomfortably in the pit of your stomach.
“It’s fine, Jimin, just practice.” You said lightly, standing up and dusting off your tights. “But seriously, work on it. It could cause some serious issues later.” You tried to say as nice as possible, but he got the message.
If you were injured, there was no way you could major in dance. It was like how when you seriously break a bone and it’s never quite the same. Your art required it to be the same.
The performing arts had always been your dream once you had gone to college and you were thankful for the scholarship considering your awful grades. A twinge of melancholy pricked at the back of your mind. Namjoon and you hadn’t exactly worked out once college forced you your separate ways.
It never would’ve worked anyway. You had long since gotten over him and you were friendly, but, like a broken bone, it would never quite be the same. You just tried to ignore the same flutter of excitement that Jimin gave you. But trust was important and right now, it just wasn’t there.
Jimin was a nice boy, you had seen him around. He was always the one to hold open the door, help you carry things when your hands were full, and the first to check in if you seemed gloomy.
He was a perfect angel. So you just had to trust that he could execute. Lisa rushed over with a water bottle, but upon finding you standing upright and looking only a little startled, she calmed down significantly.
“You guys should practice this move outside of class.” She instructed. “I’ll leave the keys in my office. Please just practice it, otherwise you’re going to give me a panic attack on stage.”
“Can’t we just...change it?” You suggested sheepishly. The woman looked appalled.
“No way, Y/N.” She said firmly. “I know it’s tough, but this is a good challenge. Besides, this is the most important part of the show.”
She continued on her rant and you didn’t want to interrupt so you stood quietly, nodding to her points.
“So, you see why you need to do this?”
“Yes, ma’am.” You dipped your head, having tuned out long ago.
Her hand landed softly on her shoulder. Her face was gentle, kind. She understood your hesitation.
“Hey, don’t worry about it. I wouldn’t have casted you if I didn’t think you could do it.” She said quietly and your pride swelled. With a proud smile, you watched her walk off to critique the others.
“Wanna continue working?” Jimin’s soft voice said. You turned, having almost forgotten he was there. You nodded.
“Yeah. Let’s get this thing down.”
Tumblr media
You collapsed to the wooden floor, exhausted and disappointed in your lack of progress. So far, you’d practiced the same thing about 20 times. 10 of those he was too early, you were, sadly for your bottom, dropped five times and you had only managed to execute it five more times.
It wouldn’t be so worrying if those five times that worked were all together and at the end. Alas, they were spread out between your attempts and it felt like a guess and check sort of method. It was like you were gambling and Jimin was an elusive object, an uncertainty.
You wanted it to work so bad, you had no idea what had gotten into him. He was usually so level headed, picking up moves faster than you could even imagine. And yet, you were starting to lose faith, beginning to check if he would be there in time when you ran it through. Here he was now, collapsed on the ground beside you.
“I don’t know what’s going wrong.” He started after catching his breath.
There was a long pause, his voice bouncing off the walls. Your eyes remained trained on the white concrete ceiling. After a taxing day at practice, you often found your mind numb and incapable of forming coherent sentences. As frustrated as you were with him, it wasn’t like you could force him to be on time like a puppet master.
“Uh huh.” You drawled, taking a deep breath as you felt your adrenaline fading.
It was after dark, the fluorescent lights of the studio seeming just a little too bright. Your internal clock was fucked, especially considering the lack of windows.
“You alright? I’m sorry I dropped you, I swear I’ll continue practicing.”
“Continue practicing?” You sit up, running a hand through your sweaty hair. “Park Jimin, you’ve practiced a ton, with me and without me, we both know it.”
You took his silence as defeat. Jimin was the kind of person that worked until they dropped or their body gave in. He was a perfectionist, you could tell simply from observing him in class. So that got you thinking about...what if the issue laid within you? What if he was off because you were off?
There was also the possibility that you were messing with his timing by doing something off and he was worried about dropping you. You massaged the crease between your brows.
“Jimin, I think the issue lies inside your head.” You said. Then you groaned at the implication. “I mean, I just think you’re psyching yourself out. You can trust me to keep time, just focus on yourself.”
Jimin sat up as well. You both faced the mirror. You saw your sweaty and disheveled reflection, wincing at how messy you looked. His hair was sticking to his forehead and slicked at the sides with glistening sweat.
Yeah, you both looked horrid, but together you made quite the picture. You smiled a little at the thought and maintained eye contact with yourself in the mirror. In your peripheral, you saw him glance at your reflection.
“I know.” He said softly, steepling his fingers. He rested his elbows on his knees and remained looking in deep thought. “I don’t know, Y/N, I’m scared of letting you fall.”
“Then don’t.” You answered quickly.
Then you sighed and your eyes flicked to his in the mirror.
“I trust that you won’t let me fall. You don’t have anything to prove. Anyway, you’ve already dropped me like ten times...what harm can ten more do? As long as it’s not the performance, I’m fine with it.”
He nodded, rubbing at his forehead angrily. Jimin took in a shaky breath, feeling his eyes water a little.
“Why am I like this?” He said miserably. You remained silent.
“I don’t understand why I can’t just get it right. It’s not even that hard.” He whispered, his voice barely audible. The static of the room was suffocating, the air stale.
“Sometimes perfection is in the imperfections.” You said softly.
Your hand left your side and instead reached out to rub his back. You felt the heaving of his chest and the stutters of his breath.
You closed your eyes for a moment, thinking back to your practice. Yeah, it had been hard, even annoying, not knowing if he would catch you, but there had been little moments you could appreciate.
The brush of his skin on yours, the soft and apologetic smiles, the laugh that rang like a sweet bell. You had a lot to be thankful for in this practice. You got to see how Jimin worked, the way his brain behaved. There must be something that wasn’t clicking. You both knew that he was capable, more than capable.
You opened your eyes, letting your gaze move to him. He was still pulling himself together. Now, you had seen, quite literally, blood, sweat, and tears, shed in this dance room. You shifted to your side slightly and gently tugged him into a hug. He didn’t resist.
You held him for what felt like ages. The warmth of his body flush up against yours made your temperature rise. The room felt like it was getting hotter, but you knew it was just that he was clutching onto you like you were his last hope.
“Jimin, you’ve got to cut yourself some slack. Take it easy, okay love?” You said tenderly. “I’ll figure it out, just leave it to me.”
Tumblr media
You listened to the music again, and once again, you were thrown off. You were sure you had figured out the issue, but you needed to double check. Again, the question of why would this throw off such a seasoned dancer? Came to mind. But, everyone had their weakness. You wrote down a few notes and then called up Jimin.
He picked up on the first ring.
“Yeah?”
“I think I may have figured out our small issue.”
“Oh?”
“Practice room A, 6:00 P.M.”
“Great, see you then.”
Tumblr media
You paced, playing the music once more. Jimin sat on the wooden floor, his legs crossed and head tilted curiously. You paused the music that pulsed through the speakers.
“Do you hear it?” You demanded.
He just quirked an eyebrow, looking at you like you were a mad woman. And in his defense, it did look like that.
Your hair was a mess, strands flying in every direction, as you spoke to him. Your eyes were wide and alight, having figured out the issue. He slowly shook his head, watching your face turn to a scowl.
“Okay, well, here’s the issue,” You sniffed, placing your hands on your hips. “The time signature.”
He didn’t seem convinced so you continued on. You waved your hands like mad and in all honesty, it had been a while since you slept. You had always had awful time management skills.
“It’s in a 5/4 time signature, but your brain is trying to compensate by moving to what feels right; 4/4 or some multiple of two.” You explained. “I can’t believe I didn’t notice before.” You huffed, stopping your wild pacing to get a good look at his face.
The room was dimly lit after you burst in, complaining about the horrendous lighting first thing. He watched you, amused, but also his eyes alight with the epiphany.
“Wow! You’re a genius, I have no idea why I didn’t notice before!” He leapt to his feet and scooped you into an unexpected hug. You refused to let your cheeks heat up, but your heart was beating like crazy.
“Ah, it’s not a problem, you would’ve figured it out.” You said sheepishly. “You can...put me down now.”
“Oh...right.” He awkwardly cleared his throat, setting you down. “I don’t know, Y/N, you’re smart and I had...other things on my mind that distracted me.” He said vaguely, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Do I want to know?”
“You’ll find out.” His angelic face morphed into a sinful grin. You playfully shoved him, resulting in his overexaggerated protests.
“You’re such a dummy.” You chided, waltzing over to the ipod. “Now, let’s run it again.”
Tumblr media
God, why were you sweating so much? Why were you so nervous? You had practiced the routines a million times, every step was memorized, every beat was ingrained in your very being.
There was no way in hell you should be getting stage fright. The applause of the crowd gave you pause, your heart leaping into your throat as the overture began. Lisa appeared on stage, giving a few words.
The Black Swan was a new performance, a spin on the classics.
Dressed in an inky black top with satin shorts, the swan makes her first appearance. In the kingdom of white swans, she is scorned, tossed aside. Her feathers are dirtied, her pride wounded.
You spun, extending your hands, letting the movement flow from your fingertips to the ceiling.
The swan comes across a large puddle of white clay one day, and in a desperate cry of anguish, slathers herself with the white clay, staining her feathers an angelic white, just like her peers. She’s considered beautiful, taken in by the villagers, who do not recognize it is her, and presented to the prince.
You curtseyed as the prince made his solo entrance.
The prince takes a liking to the white swan, yet every day leading up to the wedding, she must awake early and leave to cover herself in the clay. She can feel her facade crackling.
One day, she sneaks away, days before the wedding, and runs into another black swan.
Jimin appears on stage, leaping his way into the bushes and rolling in the metaphorical clay. He gingerly watches you.
She drops her handful of clay, surprised to see another black swan.
Day after day, long after the wedding, she returns to the puddle. And day after day, he greets her until she feels herself falling. The black swan is unsure of how to continue living her lie.
The two get into a disagreement. He protests, claiming he would love her with all his heart, the color of her feathers does not bother him. She calls him a liar and runs away, unable to allow him to see her vulnerable.
Again, the next day, they argue. The black swan cries, throwing herself into the clay to hide herself. He reaches out for her, she pulls away.
You ran around the raised platform, dread building. Yes, you were out of breath and running on fumes as the climax of the performance began, but you were more concerned about the trust fall.
Could you trust him? Your brain said no, your gut said yes.
The man reassures her that she should love herself, she should let herself be like him, be with him.
The music crescendos, building and sweeping the audience up in its loving arms. The suspense continues to a dizzying climax, the strings falling down the scale as you spun onto the platform.
You listened to your gut, taking a deep breath, and tipping backwards.
The swan falls into her lover’s arms, confessing herself, opening herself up to him.
You stared up at him. The bright lights casted a shadow over his beautiful features, but you could feel the rise and fall of his chest. His sparkling eyes peered into yours.
The swan is no longer alone. The swan has been caught and she can finally breathe easy. The worst is over, now it’s time to let her true colors show.

Hey what's Jason's relationship with nocturna? It's the first time I've heard of her😣 and nothing on her wikia mentioned anything about Jason. She seems interesting character and I would like to know more about her.
okay I went. A little insane. Here's a retelling of her pre crisis arc, long as hell
(this part covers Batman #529 / Detective Comics #363 / Batman #530) ok for some context: it’s pre crisis, meaning this Jason was also a circus boy. He has recently lost his parents, and was taken by Bruce, but isn’t dealing with the loss well, finding himself missing his past life. PLUS Bruce isn’t allowing him to be his partner, and that has him sad as well.
SO he wants to go back to the circus, since hes lonely and directionless etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW. ENTER NATALIA KNIGHT! Shes a villain, think.. Catwoman meets Poison Ivy? She’s a thief, but seduces men to do the stealing mostly.
Tumblr media
Her backstory is basically that she was an orphan living in the streets, and met who will then become his adoptive parent Charles Knight when she was 12. When she’s already an adult, Charles gets killed, and she finds out he had big money bags bc he was a criminal. and she said. awn man i like being rich. well. time to do crimes.
Tumblr media
she’s rlly into the night and the stars (she was the head of the observatory, which Bruce was funding through his company or w/e)
anyways. she gets away, Jason helps bruce find her (but! bruce wouldnt le him help which rlly hurt jason), and as her and her partner anton are getting away (again) batman catches up to them, but only manages to bring anton to justice, while Nocturna escapes in like. one of those giant balloons idk whats the name
Tumblr media
the issue ends with Nocturna/Natalia sending Bruce money for the maintenance of the observatory and with Jason deciding to leave
Tumblr media
NOW onto the next part. So in this issue we have Jason escaping home, Bruce going to court against Natalia’s partner Anton, and Natalia just vibing around, and she happens to find Jason running away from home, and they have a conversation in which she tries to convince him to go back home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but Jason. well.
Tumblr media
So Bruce gets back home and Alfred tells him about Jason running away, and bruce, in real bruce fashion, is all like ughg i shouldve listened to him.. well lets go get him. and alfred is like. sir. do i have to remind u u arent his legal guardian yet. u have no right to decide where he stays.
so bruce is like ugh fine. i’ll go patrol then. which he does, and turns out Nocturna was trying to help Anton escape, and well it fails, and she gets captured too.
Tumblr media
and that’s that for Natalia… for now ;)
NOW. this isn’t relevant for Natalia & Jason but again some context. Covers um  covers fuck a bunch of issues. SO. what happens in this time
jason goes back to the circus but is deeply unhappy
Tumblr media
he’s still doing detective work. hasnt seen bruce or alfred in a while
alfred visits
case stuff case stuff case stuff it was the clown all along
Jason ends up helping Bruce, since they were both working the same case separately, and they make up
Tumblr media
NOW. a lot of shit happens not relevant to nocturna. Jason isnt robin for a while, then he uses Dicks costume, then bruce gets mad at him for that bc its not his costume, so jason uses his own costume, then dick gives him the robin costume, so jason becomes robin. um stuff stuff happens and all it matters is the panel below.
Tumblr media
NOW! BACK TO NOCTURNA!
her comeback arc kinda starts in batman #374, where this lady is like hold on.. bruce wayne isnt jasons legal guardian wtf, is he even fit to have a kid?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so she starts digging around, asking questions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and shes like yea this is real fishy, give me that kid
Tumblr media
so bruce and jason try to behave like uh yes no robin and batman business. let that kid be a kid.
Tumblr media
but welp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and so.. Jason is taken away :( and both of them are heartbroken :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but u know what! bruce wayne is one stubborn fucker! and he will fight to have the legal guardianship!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and even if they’re not living together anyomre they’re still the dynamic duo in a way, which like. lol. this lady took this kid away bc she was worried about him but he still ran away.. tch tch tch.
Tumblr media
they’re both rlly depressed about the situation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THATS WHAT U MISSED ON GLEE!!
NOW. SHES BACK. look at this epic cover
Tumblr media
shes now parterning w a dude named nightshade or smth, and he like. rlly wants to hit that, but shes like um pause ⏸️✋my love is the night. the dude, like every other man, is like so im not getting anything from this? fuck u, and leaves. shes like whatevers, ugh how annoying i dont have a partner again & anton is still in prison… &  while shes again chilling she finds out about Bruce trying to legally adopt jason & recognizes jason from the time they talked
Tumblr media
& goes to visit him
Tumblr media
and theres also this dude, whos not rlly relevant for now, will try to stop bruce from adopting jason which will be relevant later hehe (there's a whole subplot with him and bullock but like it's not rlly relevant to Jason n Natalia) (shrug emoji)
Tumblr media
and so. Bruce finds out..
Tumblr media
and so the cover becomes a reality, Bruce and Natalia WILL fight in a chuck n cheese parking lot to become Jason’s parent.. and Natalia may try to pull a reverse card on Bruce
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and well. Bruce rlly has no chance now does he? and turns out Jason wants this to happen since hes convinced he can unreveal Natalia’s secrets from the inside
Tumblr media
and a lil sweet moment between father & son
Tumblr media
and then a moment with Amanda, who, in my opinion, did nothing wrong ever
Tumblr media
meanwhile Anton comes back, tells Nocturna he killed the dude that was bothering her, and she gets PISSSSEDD OFF shes like u TARNISHED the night by SPILLING BLOOD, u absolute BEAST, Bruce gets there, some weird stuff happens that aged rlly poorly, then Nocturna stabs Anton to save Bruce, turns out she knows hes batman, again shes like marry me to have our son (Jason) and hes like no! and leaves. While Bruce tries to find Anton, Jason is like ive HAD IT i wanna go out, but Natalia stops him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then the next morning Amanda gets her head straight and talks to Jason
Tumblr media
but well Jason is hellbent on exposing Natalia from the inside or w/e, and eventually she gets the custody, even if Amanda tries to convince him and the judge Bruce is a better choice (since she noticed Jason clearly favors him and was in pain when he wasnt at the wayne manor)
Tumblr media
and everyone is coddling Bruce which im adding bc its cute and i miss this relationship Bruce had with Vicki and Julia
Tumblr media
MEANWHILE, at the knight house. mad hatter is a a weird creepy rat bastard n tries to get control of Natalia & get the information of her brain or smth. Batman gets there & we get a Batman vs Controlled nocturna fight and then Robin also arrives and its Batman & Robin vs Nocturna, but B tells Jason to focus on getting Mad Hatter, which he does and then gets Nocturna back to normal whatever, and she again asks Bruce to marry her, which hes again like no thank u! the issue ends with this page which is rlly sweet imo
Tumblr media
next up Anton is back but it doesnt matter rlly. a woman is tending to him, n because shes blind hes like. im batman. yeah. and she believes it.
AND then Jason is formally adopted by Natalia
Tumblr media
Jason is still trying to find proof that shes evil, and they share a moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but jason is like. gotta fight crime! and so Natalia is like well i tried. wanna go be robin a bit?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman & Robin go after mad hatter, and then Nocturna joins them bc shes epic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and takes jay home bc its a school night smh
Tumblr media
Natalia & Jason spend some time together but Jason still doesn’t warm up to Natalia which like. makes sense since shes a villain and all that, but she tries nevertheless
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then everyones most hated bitch comes back (Yes, anton) n he attacks Natalia, and then Jason when he hears the ruckus and goes to help
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but gets a chop
but! Bruce was just on his way to visit them so
Tumblr media
fight fight bruce gets shot in the head n gets amnesia and thinks the dude anton shot & killed was him
Tumblr media
Anton swaps their costumes n makes Bruce believe that Anton is batman not him? or smth
Tumblr media
afterwards Jason blames himself
Tumblr media
and him & Natalia team up to find Bruce which includes.. carrying a corpse around
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for three days (well. nights) anton just runs around stealing n shit dressed as batman, n bruce is. literally chilling on a rooftop. alfred is losing his mind bc !? jason hasnt contacted him!? about what happened!? but Julia comes home and comforts him
Tumblr media
gotham is a lil in chaos with gordon vicki vale n bullock being suspicious, and the girl who was helping anton finds the stuff he stole and realizes hes not batman.
on the fourth night Jason n Natalia find Anton
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n they fight him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but Anton gets the upper hand w Nocturna so Jason jumps in to defend her
Tumblr media
and then Nocturna defends Jason bc thats his baby
Tumblr media
but Anton doesnt get like. killed w that ofc, and hes like fuck u i’ll kill u one day but when the kid isnt here and after batman has fallen, bye (throws jason from building)
Tumblr media
and Natalia reagroup n well.. some things are said
Tumblr media
bc like even if Nocturna is helping shes a villain.. right? (thinking emoji)
meanwhile Bruce finally got his mind back. not important. who cares. the lady who was helping Anton goes to the police to tell them about Anton/fake batman dun dun dun. but Anton finds out and knocks out the policeman who went w the girl (Tina!) to check for proof n shit.
and guess whos back! amanda!
Tumblr media
back to new dynamic duo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so Jason the little rascal (can i say hes a rascal when hes doing the hero thing n trying to expose a criminal?) goes looking for proof that Natalia is Nocturna n stuff, and finds some stolen things
Tumblr media
1. singsonging.. hes such a little shit lmaoo, 2. she was worried… pause…
anyways. they have a confrontation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in which Natalia swears shes reformed, but Jason doesnt buy it, and is like. im gonna get gordon! and Natalia is like.. do what u think is best
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but. he can’t do it..
Tumblr media
n hes like. well shes not bad anymore.. i wish i could go back to bruce without sending her to prison which… please development..  n natalia DOES want his love..
Tumblr media
AND THEN! BRUCE IS BACK! and he teams up with Nocturna to find Anton, but its just their luck Amanda sees them
Tumblr media
they do sm stuff not relevant and then Bruce is like go back to ur son now, and Natalia is like.. OUR son :)
Tumblr media
well whatever whatever they get Anton, Bruce goes back to being Batman, they clear his reputation, Jason goes back to the manor since Amanda saw Natalia, etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(he munches he crunches) also im gonna add this that isnt relevant bc its just so funny, buenos dias alfred
Tumblr media
anyways stuff hapens, like idk 14 issues without nocturna, the most important bit that happened is that selina is back. which she was gone. yeah. but shes back and around.
ANYWAYS! 15 issues later! shes back! some dudes entered her old observatory n were vandalizing and she was like hold up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
meanwhile we have Jason calling amanda bc he well.. misses his mom and as much as he loves bruce and hes his dad its not the same for some reason
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jason in every universe: i miss my mom i want my mom :(
at school Jason overheards some kids talking about Natalia in the observatory
Tumblr media
Jason goes looking for Natalia n turns out Bullock was also trying to see what was happening in the observatory, so they kinda team up for two whole panels to find her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but Jason is like im not telling u shit.. n goes w Natalia on his own
Tumblr media
google always taking pics
Tumblr media
n they share a moment ;_____;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n theyre reunited.. now ur gonna have to excuse me bc i didnt download the high quality of the next tec issues n all the download links are sadly broken
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but… what about natalia?
Tumblr media
then bullock finds them
Tumblr media
well bullock lets her go n while retelling the stuff to gordon he has.. a theory
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
meanwhile Nocturna.. well Nocturna is back at it again, taking charge of a band of thieves.. sigh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways, they talk, theres something weird happening w the sky that may mean the world is ending or smth, and they make up AND make out
Tumblr media
n they have a talk thats basically like. what now? should we be together? well depends if ur still gonna steal. i need funds to get the observatory back in track (HELLO BRUCE IS RICH HE COULD PAY IT..) and hes like oh so ur gonna be a thief again.. and shes like well havent u noticed im only stealing from corrupt rich politicians!? (QUEEN) n theres this gorgeous shot
Tumblr media
n then they go their separate ways bc its fucking batman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways. Selina was also investigating the group of thieves (that were like black masks old gang but he was sent to prison so Nocturna took over etc) and she sees Nocturna leaving and follows her to the Observatory but.. Jason is there too
Tumblr media
Selina wants her GOOOONE she needs to clear her name but Jason is like. over my dead body
Tumblr media
n well ……. the girls are fightinggggggggggggggggggggggggg
Tumblr media
but Bruce intercepts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n now Batman n Catwoman fight and its like the girls are fightingggggg… 2! but doesnt matter look at them
Tumblr media
and then Selina gets struck by lightning
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n then theres a earthquake bc god what a damn comic, and the observatory collapses, and Natalia is trapped inside
Tumblr media
anyways Selina is in the hospital, Anton is still killing people and knows where she is and is trying to get to her, and this little scene happens with Jason n B
Tumblr media
n while Bruce stays with Selina Jason goes to find Natalia which is so funny like. she went to Natalia, his mom, when Bruce told him to go home and well– we al know that story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
n now its a race to get to Natalia before Anton gets to her
Tumblr media
n its rlly sad bc like Natalia is ready to die
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
but both Bruce n Jason are trying to reach her
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here comes Jason!
Tumblr media
AND LIKE. the fact she wants to live after all bc of Jason rlly makes me emotional not gonna lie! not gonna lie!
Tumblr media
and no offense but a mother’s love………………………………….. no thoughts head empty
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first of all i hate anton so fucking much. secondly here comes batdad..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n Jason tries to help Natalia escape and then get back to Bruce who is getting his ass kinda kicked
Tumblr media
guess whos coming in that helicopter.. selina freaking kyle.. the legend.. and she helps Bruce with Anton.
I REALLY DONT GET THIS TBH LIKE. he puts her into the giant balloon so she can get away but like shes hurt buddy shes gonna die up there..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and. shes gone.
Tumblr media
n Jason is absolutely devastated
Tumblr media
n like. Bruce. as always. is like ok champ i see u got it in control, lmk when u wanna go home
Tumblr media
LIKE HES SO SAD.. OF COURSE HES SAD THAT WAS HIS MOM....
Tumblr media
And thats. pretty much it. Natalia is gone.
However Jason still grieves her, and when Bruce and Selina are trying to get back together and... hes not a big fan of their relationship.. at all. But bruce tries to pair them up so they can become at least friends, since he loves them both and doesnt want to like. pick between his son and his lover
Tumblr media
and they make a fine team, even if Jason grieving Natalia and how Selina doesnt want to take her place is brought up a couple times :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it gives it a bittersweet ending to the arc
Tumblr media
and well. thats it. thats the Jason and Natalia dynamic.
Natalia reappers later post crisis but well w/o her connection to Jason.. and i really dont wanna talk about the version of her that appears in batwoman comics LOL.
conclusion: natalia was a bad lady, who at first wanted to use jason to get money from bruce, but then she had a change of heart, and development and became a kind of anti hero? well not antihero just.. she was trying her best man. i wish she hadnt disappeared like she couldve stayed relevant to jasons story without having to be romantically with bruce? bc if u read her comics u can see that she was killed off/voided for batcat to comeback which... typical batcat! anyways. i think she genuinely loved and cared for jason and that jason loved her and cared for her right back :(

Of Machines and Pigs Pt. 6
"My dear Mister Mandus, I admire your vision, I really do, but there are surely not enough pigs in the whole of London to feed the appetite of such a machine."
"That all rather depends, Professor, on what one considers to be a pig."
(It's been a long while, but in this post I'm going to talk about the Mandus Processing Company! So get ready for quite a lengthy read!)
First, let's go back a bit and talk about the original Mandus Co. Meat Processing Factory, established in 1828. Presumably it has been a family-run business, passed down through generations. In the November 7th, 1898 Found Document which discusses the Mandus family's recent financial burden, we find out that Oswald Mandus, in an attempt to keep up with the risen era of industry, took a gamble on revamping his shop into a full-scale, machine-driven factory, and unfortunately for him the gamble did not pay off. Now he's in hot water, unable to move forward due to his exhausted fortune, yet unable to convince the bank to lend him what he needs to progress.
So, after scouring his great uncle's notes, he learns about various ruins and the treasures they may contain -- including the orbs, which he hopes to obtain and sell for profit. Of course, we all know what happens during his expedition in Mexico.
When he returns home to London, he immerses himself completely in his work of expanding his business, partly as a way to cope with the loss of his sons -- according to his phonograph conversation with Professor A. His newfound charisma, humanitarian ideals, and I'm going to presume pity points due to his intense illness win him the favor of many a wealthy benefactor, and, much to the surprise and awe of men like Professor A. he is quickly able to renovate his factory and then some. He builds an entire enterprise, an empire if you will.
It is called the Mandus Processing Company, and its logo can be found everywhere throughout the game.
Before we go further from here, let's detour a little and talk about Compound X, a liquid that is used for everything from machine fuel to coolant, to tissue mending and life restorative, and just about everything in-between. But what is Compound X, exactly? Another "gift" found in the notes of his great uncle, it's actually the discarded formula for manufactured vitae that Alexander had come up with in The Dark Descent. With all of the elaborated lore in Amnesia: Rebirth surrounding vitae, now its various uses in A Machine for Pigs make more sense. (For those who haven't played Rebirth yet, vitae is a curative, regenerative, fuel source, and a power source used by Alexander's people.)
In Oswald's company, Compound X is not only used in the surgical processes of creating manpigs, it is also, and perhaps more interestingly, used for helping to keep the factory running. Mandus has created an essentially self-sustaining workhouse, as well as connecting systems to his home to ensure that things like electricity and heat are generated using the factory's inner workings.
The factory is designed using the same various compartments and systems as any other slaughterhouse -- except the main line has been modified to accommodate human bodies, rather than just pigs. He alternates between capturing and slaughtering the rich and the poor, in order to make the disappearances less obvious; as he himself explains, it would seem too suspicious if too many wealthy, upper class individuals went missing at one time. But the poor, on the other hand? No one would notice the loss of the "undesirables" of the city, allowing him to kidnap them in bulk.
But how does he manage this, as critically ill as he is? He builds his reputation by donating money and food to the church and its charges, the orphanages, mental hospitals, and the workhouses, giving the impression that he cares deeply for the plight of the less fortunate and thus deserves respect and assistance. (One ironic aspect of his new factory is that it is a workhouse, granting employment to those in need of it, including children.) St. Dunstan's Church has been connected to his factory, and its congregation led into the metaphorical belly of the beast, with Father Jeremiah accompanying them following Oswald's grand reveal to him about his plan. The more distrustful lower class citizens are gathered and, owing to traps beneath the city streets, swept away in the blink of an eye to be turned into produce. Meanwhile, for the rich, he flaunts his new wealth and product, earning him the attention of those in higher standings -- enough so that he's able to throw luxurious parties at his residence for them. The various rooms of his home have been rigged with traps, so that unlucky drunk and drugged guests are easily transported onto the pigline through them, then are subsequently fed to the next guests at the following parties.
Not a bad system, or so it would have been had the authorities not begun to grow suspicious of disappearances. Their investigations, without fail, led them to Oswald Mandus, and so we are granted the phonograph conversation with Professor A. as a result.
But back to the factory! Three interesting locations worth noting are the laboratories, found beneath the main factory buildings; the nuclear reactor, lurking deep beneath the city and likely supplying most of the power to the resource-intensive systems; and South Tower, where much of the Compound X is stored and is likely regulated to the various compartments due to its cold storage.
The laboratories are where the experimentations are carried out by Oswald, most notably those dealing with Compound X and resuscitation of the deceased, and the creation of more manpigs. Victims are shipped down to this area and held in cages until it's their turn to be taken. The process, much like the production line process, is explained and described in various notes in-game.
The nuclear reactor, I tend to assume supplies a large amount of power to the factory because of not only the nature of it, but also because it's the heart of the sabotaging efforts that we are undoing during the first half of the game, and it isn't until after we restart it that the factory truly and fully comes back to functional life. Being that it, again, is the heart of the sabotaging efforts, I believe that it is the -- if not one of the -- most important parts of the "machine". There is also implication in the Machine's dialogue and another few found documents that the reactor's function is also to split apart the earth's core(the "egg of the world").
South Tower, fully known as "Electrogravitic Suppression: South Tower" is home to the Tesla manpigs, being that it's the only area cold enough to sustain them and their stability due to the high volume of Compound X within them. (You run into another variation of them in the sewer level, the "Failed Experiments".) It, curiously enough, also houses in its very center a human heart, suspended in air and surrounded on the room's outer area by glass harmonicas. What does it mean? I'm still not sure, but after activating the glass harmonicas and charging up the power to the room, approaching the heart seems to cause it to become electrocuted. If I were to take a guess, I'd assume the heart is located there to keep it alive and beating until that moment, as well as to preserve it using the cold temperature.
Alright, I think I've rambled enough for now. What are your thoughts and theories? If you've read this far, and the post has piqued your own curiosities, I'd love to hear what you think as well!

Whats Ny Name
Tumblr media
Word count: 4730, tha’s a big gurl!
Lena Luthor x Reader
Reader lost her memories at a carcrashing. Now she’s triyng to get her memories back. But she can’t understand why, of all of her friends that she can’t remember well, the dark haired lady always seems to avoid Reader with all the strenght a Luthor can have. Reader also can’t understand why that distance between the two annoys her the most.
English is not my mothern language, so pleeeease remember that if you find any grammatical error. Love u.
Hi, my name is…
My name is…
What is my name?
Weird.
I hear voices saying things I can not understand, well, I can’t concentrate either. What I can vaguely understand is that there are… like… five women around here. But… Where is here? My eyes are still closed and I feel that I’m laying on a bed, with that annoying bip sound next to my ear and those five women with that distant conversation.
I feel dizzy, like underwater and trying to do something, but my head hurts even more. And why?
Okay, I had enough, I’m waking up NOW!
I open my eyes and the first thing I see is the brightness of the day. Seriously, is so bright here that my eyes hurt like fire. I try to move, but the women start to notice my conscious presence, and they get closer to my bed.
There is an asian woman dressed as doctor, so, she is probably a doctor, and i might be at an hospital.
There is also a blond young woman with glasses and a pink sweater, a ginger woman with a leather jacket, a nurse that is also blonde, and a pale and gorgeous woman with a red coat and black hair. Not that the others are not good looking, but even not thinking well I can admit, she is beautiful.
- What… Where am I? I… What… – I tried to ask something, feeling my mouth dry.
- You are at the hospital now. I’m Dr. Baywu and this is your nurse, Ms. Muriel. Try not to force yourself too much, relax, we are glad that you are awake, you’ve got everyone very worried.
I looked around and I saw the pink sweater girl, the leather jacket one and the gorgeous one staring at me with tears streaming down their faces and- wait, is the gorgeous one holding my hand?
- I… Water… – Quickly Mrs. Muriel handded me a cup of water that I immediately drank.
- What… I… What happened? – At that moment I felt a pain in my left leg, it was broken? H O W?? – What happened with my leg?
- You suffered a trauma in the accident, you’ve got a broken tibia, and you also hit your head. We made exams, but now that you are awake, your case can take new diagnosis.
- But we are so glad that your are finally awake, we were so worried, and Lena almost put the hospital down to pieces! – The pink sweater said with such an enthusiasm tone.
- Yeah, now when you get out we’re going to celebrate. Tequila and wine, I’ll pay!
- Her leg…
- Tequila, grape juice and wine! – The ginger one corrected herself after get interrupted by the blonde one, that was fun to see, but…
- Okay, good… But I have a question.
- And what is it, love? – The gorgeous woman with gorgeous dark hair and gorgeous green eyes, now red by the tears, asked, holding my hand still.
- Who are you all?
When I made the question I can say that I saw the exact moment that their faces changed from happiness to confusion and mourn, and the hope inside their eyes got faded. They looked at the doctor in a last glance of hope to understand what was happening, as if the doctor could make vanish whatever was wrong with me. And the nurse, Mrs. Muriel, was watching everything like it was all a dramatic scene of her favorite TV show.
Then, Dr. Baywu got closer, looking at me with a professional behave, calm and concerned.
- What is the last thing you remember? – I tried, really. The last thing I remember…
- I don’t know, I… I can’t… I… I’m sorry! – I panicked. How couldn’t I remember?
- It’s ok. Take your time, you’re still confused by the accident.
- No, how cannot I remember my own name? Tell me! – I was too worried now to actually care about the tone of my voice. The blonde woman and the ginger woman were perplexed and concerned. The dark haired was no longer next to me. Everything was in chaos inside my head.
- Right – She took a deep breath. – During the accident, you had a broken tibia and a trauma in your head. You just woke up from 8 days of coma and now my worries are real, you have a traumatic amnesia.
Good…
Then I passed out.
Sooo… You might be thinking what had happened next.
In resume, my real name is (y/e/n), I have a broken leg and a traumatic amnesia. The doctor said that this was temporary, she just didn’t know exactly for how long I would have to wait until I remember my own history. And to help me get back my memories, would be great if I started getting back to my routine. So I’m sleeping in the pink sweater blonde girl’s couch-bed, her name is Kara Danvers, by the way.
Kara Danvers is a reporter at the most important media company in National City, CatCo, she said. There works another friend of mine, Nia. And she said that I work there too. She mentioned that we were like sisters, which I have no doubt.
The ginger with the cool leather jacket is her sister, Alex Danvers, she works with Winn and Brainy, that are also my friends, at an security agency, she is the director of the DEO cause she couldn’t get any cooler.
And there was Lena, the dark haired pale woman with green eyes out of this universe. She is the CEO of L-Corp AKA the biggest technology company, a Luthor with a kind heart, and a mystery for me.
Look
At the first time I saw her after the accident –a car crashing- she were so close to me. That I can remember. Her hand on mine. For goddess sake, she called me “love”! But now she were distant, avoiding me.
Kara said we were very close, that she have a soft and warm heart, and just this! Nothing more about me and Lena. Everybody acts weird when I ask, or when I am, like, in the same room as her.
Did I made something to hurt her? Why she doesn’t like me anymore?
DAMN AMNESIA, I HATE YOU!!!
Three weeks had passed since I woke up. Slowly, I started to remember a few things about my routine, like my taste for coffee, what was happening inside my favorite TV shows, what I actually do to live, that I have a good taste and hand at the kitchen and what each one likes to eat most –Kara eats, like, everything-. Many little things, so important memories. But I’m still perplexed about Lena.
I have some flashes of we hanging out together, having fun, just the two of us. Here, inside Kara’s apartment, there’s a lot of framed pictures of us all, smiles on faces, captured happy moments, the expression on Winn’s face after losing miserably to the Danvers sisters at game nights, and me, always close to -guess who, exactly- Lena.
We had some game nights at Kara’s, but not a single glance of Lena’s presence. Then I decided to solve this mystery myself.
I found out Lena’s office’s number in Kara’s phone –don’t you judge me, I’m amnesia and I have desperate-, I called and a woman whose I believe is Lena’s secretary, answered. Even she knew me and my current situation.
Good.
I asked for a particular meeting and of course she said Mrs. Business had no place in her agenda. Something tells me this was not the truth.
Lets see what else I can find here in Mrs. Sunshine’s phone. Ohh! A numbah, Lena’s numbah. Interesting…
I KNOW!! “What an invasion of privacy of my part” but… I forgot my phone’s password too. And no one else knows it’s password either. So…
Yeah. Shit.
You know what??
Ima goin’ to L-Corp!
Y’know, for good old memories…
-
I found L-Corp with good old friend google research, there I asked to the porter on which floor was Lena’s office. Clearly, it was at the top of the building and I’m a dumbass…
- Mrs. (y/l/n), what a surprise seeing you here! – A woman, probably the secretary, greeted me, but I could see the nervousness she tried to hide when she saw me.
- Hi, I came to talk to Le- Mrs. Luthor.
- I’m sorry but like I said this morning on your call, Mrs. Luthor is very busy with her meetings, do you want to live a message?
- But it will be only fifteen minutes of her time.
- I’m sorry, but this will not be possible.
- It’s okay, I can give some minutes to her.
That voice, oh that voice. Standing right behind me was the owner of that voice that I don’t know if makes me afraid or makes me feel something else. There was Lena, so powerful with that blue dress, the high heels, the red lipstick… OK FOCUS! I think she said something?
- Mrs. (y/l/n)?
- Um.. Yes?
- You said you want a conversation?
- Um Yes! Er… Just want to make some questions, see if I remember something else.
- Oh, right. Come with me.
Now we were just the two of us inside her office room. It was a good place actually, with a white couch, a desk with a modern design and a balcony with a view to the whole city, it just feels familiar… and rich.
- Enjoying the view? – Lena asked with a look on her face, studying me, out of the business mode.
- Yeah. It’s beautiful. The sunset makes it looks even better.
- This is one of the reasons I bought this building. – That moment I hope I’ll never forget, we were glancing at each other in the eyes, and her green orbs are just perfect with the light of the sunset. We got closer…
And closer…
- I… – She moved away, taking me off of my trance. – I am really busy, so if you don’t mind to ask me your questions, go right to the point, please.
- Right – Cold. – So how did we met?
- Kara didn’t told you? It was at one of the game nights, you are like her and Alex’s little sister and she is my best friend, you were always shy with people you did not knew, but at that night, we started to know each other. – Lena said with a nostalgic tone, I guess it was a good memory for her.
- We were playing Uno and I was winning all the time, until we started to bet money. At the end, we both were playing still while the others were just watching. You were crazy enough, or that was just the alcohol, to bet a car. You said “Okay Ms. Money, I won’t be losing at my own game without one last fight!”
We started to laugh together. I can’t believe my own audacity or her patience to play along with the dunk me.
- Then, when each of us had only one card left, you made me get other four cards with your last one, and you won the game. At the other day, I gave you keys of an actual car. You were shocked and said you were talking about a miniature, we laughed the whole day, talking about cars and other things.
We couldn’t help but laugh, and her laugh was the best sound I’ve ever heard. Suddenly the air around us was way less heavy than before, but unfortunately, I remembered why I was there. I stopped laughing.
- So, are we good friends?
- Yes, you can say that.
- Then, why are you avoiding me? – Her smile faded, like before at the hospital, and I almost regretted the question.
Before she say anything, the TV of her office interrupted us with news about an investigation against a group of terrorists, CADMUS (I think), and their leader, Lilian Luthor.
Wait.
Luthor?
YES, I remember the woman!
Lena’s stepmother!
Oh…
- Shit.
- Excuse me, but I am honestly busy for the day – Lena turned off the TV, moving away from me, and I swear, I could see some tears trying to stream down her face. It was too heartbroken to watch.
- Oh, no. Of course. Well… I’m glad for your time, it was a good talk. I hope I see your grace soon.
- Yes, me too, thank you for the conversation.
- Bye, Mrs. Luthor. – I said before leaving her door.
-
The other night was not the way I planned, and I just spent the whole night thinking about it. The way Lena was so comfortable talking about us, how we have fun together. If we were so dearly friends, why she couldn’t be there? Why she hides herself behind that business excuse? Urgh! Now I understand what Anna felt when she tried to talk to Elsa.
If I sing “Do you want to build a snowman” at Lena’s penthouse door, would she answer me?
Wait.
Did I just remembered where is Lena’s penthouse???
FORK YES!!!
Is 9:00am at a Sunday morning, Kara is doing I-don’t-know-what out there and I will ask for no one’s help since everybody seems to know more then they want to tell me. Therefore, I’ll just get a taxi and make another visit to Mrs. Luthor, I know that she is a workaholic woman, but it’s Sunday. And I’m unstoppable.
Here I am at her door…
Just knock, (Y/n), knock.
Why can’t I knock?
Did I forgot how to knock?
- Here I go. – I said more to myself with a deep breath, and then I knocked once, twice… Nothing. She’s probably not here. Though knocking once more won’t cost me the other leg.
Knock.
And her door was open, it was just open, not locked or just closed, and no one opened it for me. She must have forgotten to lock it.
- Get in or stay out? What should I do? Yap, close the damn door and go away… but what if she’s inside? I can tell her that the door was just open, that’s the truth. No, Lena will think I’m a freak. But she knows me and all I know about myself right now is that freak that talks alone. And I’m amnesia and I have desperate. That’s it, I’m in. And dead.
One step, nothing. Two steps. Still nothing. Not even a noise. She’s not home. With a fast look around, her penthouse is not made of gold as I imagined, but harmonic and comfortable, with some framed pictures of Lena and all our friends, and I am somehow in all those frames. Like a ghost of a friendship, perhaps?
- Yeah, enough adventures for today (y/n), that will be all! – I said to myself, regretting that stupid mission I took.
When I was turning around to the door, I saw something on a desk that claimed for my attention.
- One invitation of a huge party. Gala for Charity “Kingdom Nights” – Why I’m not surprised…- So she’s going to a gala. And here’s two tickets – Of course she has someone to go with…
- FUCK!!! – IT IS TONIGHT?????!!!!
- “Ghrrr” – Wait, what was this sound? I turned around to see nothing more than a gray, beautiful, huge and angry Siberian husky looking at me. Oh shit.
- Keep calm little boy… Err… Girl? - Wait, I know that dog.
- Amethyst? – The husky started to shake the tail and jump around with euphoria.
- Ohh come here my puppy, missed you!!! – This was my dog, Ames, I can’t believe I forgot my baby. Oh no she’s running to me. Oh no she’s about to jump!
- WAIT! NOOO!
*THUD*
- Ouch, it hurts… - Ames made me fall to the floor and now she’s licking all my face. – Okay, I missed you too. – I missed my baby, our baby? What Amethyst is doing living in Lena’s penthouse?
- Ames. Are you ok? – I heard a voice, shit is Lena’s voice and I feel I have to hide, like, NOW!
I crawled until I could hide on the living room sofa faster than a bullet. Supergirl would be jealous… Just kidding. I waited there, praying silently to not get found here.
- Anyways, like I was saying, I can’t go with her to the event… I know it is today, but… - I think she is on a call. – Ok. I’ll go anyway… Thank you. Bye. – Her tone was sad, in the business mode, but with disappointment…
I hear a noise of a door being closed. I see if she’s still here. She isn’t. That’s my time, so I get up and run the best I can away that penthouse, not before taking one of the tickets and saying bye to my Ames. She’ll be okay. Now I need to run for dear life, even if it is with those crutches.
I need some formal clothes, because if Regina George could go to the prom looking like a robot princess, Ima going to that ball.
-
- Kara, you are here, great, cause I need your help. – I said right when I got into Kara’s apartment.
- What? Wait, where have you been? – Kara looked at me with an expression of confusion.
- Hey (y/n), where were you? – Alex said from the kitchen.
- You are here, good. I’ve been busy with some… research? Anyways, I need your help. I have to go to this beneficent gala tonight, and since I don’t remember my credit card’s password and is not easy to walk around with a broken leg, I need you, the two sisters I found, to help me.
They gave each other a glance, more like a silent language of hesitation. But I’m not a girl to give up like that.
- Look. I know everybody is hiding something from me, I can feel that, and it, somehow, relates to my relationship with Lena.
- But (y/n) this is more complicated than-
- I know it is, but I need answers! – I interrupted Alex, not carrying for my loud voice anymore.
– I’m just tired of this, every day I found something new about myself and what I used to be. I see pictures of my past without a single notion of how far it was, for me it never happened. Every person I used to know fits right around me, but Lena is the only one that I can’t understand. I know you guys will not tell me the truth, this is probably her secret and she’s your friend too. Then I will ask her by myself, for once and for all.
- (Y/n) is right. – Kara said to Alex and then to me. – This has gone too far. If I could tell you everything I wouldn’t hesitate, but Lena made we promise her, and what she have to tell to you, only she can say.
- Yeah, if we can’t tell you, we will help you. You can count on us.
- Thank you girls. Now we need to hurry. The event will be tonight and I cannot run with only one leg!
-
- You’re feeling okay? – Alex asked me at the hotel’s entrance. Only I have the ticket to the ball, Kara and Alex just gave me a ride.
- Will you punch me if I say I’m not?
- Don’t be nervous and remember, Lena is probably nervous too, you two need to talk in peace. – Kara said to calm me down.
- But she will be surrounded by other rich people. Even if I ask her for a dance, how am I supposed to dance like this? – I pointed to my left leg.
- You are creative, will find a way. Now you go! Love you, bye! – Alex said, right before Kara and her leave the place. I was now on my own.
The event was huge like the hotel hosting it. It was the most luxurious place in the whole city, built 100 years ago. There was many people dressed as if they belonged to another era and suddenly it felt like another dimension, with Queens and Kings, magic and mystical creatures. That’s it, I was in a Disney movie.
Everyone was dancing or talking while a common song was playing along. But just like a magical Disney movie -or maybe a Barbie one- a love song started while, for at least for a single second, every move of every dancer, every conversation and even my breath had stopped when I saw her.
She was at the other side of the room, more gorgeous than ever with her beautiful hair down and a dark blue dress like the night full of stars. And she was the moon. Only her majestic presence was enough to make the darkness bright. For a moment, I forgot about everything else. I gave my best to walk through all the people between her and me.
- Lena! – Immediately, when she heard me only a few meters away, she stopped to talk with an old couple and stared at me, surprised, confused… I wish I could read her mind. When I was almost next to her, someone dancing bumped into me, which made me lose balance and fall. I closed my eyes of fear, waiting the floor upon me, but it never came.
Instead, I felt two arms holding me tight. I could not believe my eyes when I opened to see my hero.
- Do you always do this, fall around? – Lena asked looking into my eyes.
- Only when you are there to save me. – I got up without leaving her arms. – Would you dance with me? – She took my hand, I found some balance and we started slowly with the song’s rhythm.
- How did you came here?
- Well, you know, one crutch after another…
- And you never lose this sense of humor – She giggled, and I’m sure I would make a billion bad jokes only to see her simile again and again. – But I’m serious, only being invited to enter this party.
- Well Madame, you have your methods and I have mine. – She raised one eyebrow. – Okay. Maybe I tried to make a visit to your penthouse, and maybe I borrowed one of your tickets. I bet your partner wouldn’t mind at all.
- Partner? – She got confuse
- Yes, you had two tickets…
- No, the… - She took a deep breath. - The ticket was yours anyway.
- Wait, what? – Then I got confused.
- We need to talk, just the two of us. Come with me.
- Okay. - She took me to a balcony upstairs, where were no one else but us.
- Now, can we talk? – I asked, but she stand in silence, avoiding my gaze. – Why you said the ticket was mine?
- There is something I have to tell you that is not easy to say.
- Good, because that’s exactly the reason I went to your office, or your home, and why I came here at first place. I cannot understand this anymore. We were friends, and we are not, there is pictures of you and me everywhere at your penthouse, when I ask any of our friends about us, they seem to pretend nothing happened, my dog lives with you an now you tell me that the ticket I found was mine all the time? Explain to me  then, why? What are you hiding from me?
- The ticket is yours because. – The green eyed woman breathed deeply. – You were supposed to come with me to this ball, we got the invitations six weeks ago, but everything changed when you suffered the accident. I was avoiding this conversation, but I can’t hide this anymore. (Y/n), I am your wife.
- What? – I stated to give a humorless laugh. I couldn’t believe what I just heard, while tears started to shad down my face and Lena’s. – When did you planned to tell me?
- (Y/n), I can explain.
- Then try! Because I lost all my memories and the person I needed most lied to me all the damn time! Tell me Lena, why my wife was lying to me?!
- Because I almost lost you! – She cried – And that was my fault.
I stand in silence, giving her the chance to finally say everything.
- Do you have any memory about the night of your accident?
- No, but I keep with some nightmares of the car crashing.
- It wasn’t a simple car crashing. It was my mo- stepmother. She sent one of her minions after you. (Y/n), she tried to kill you!
So this was what happened to me…
- It was supposed to be a simple night, but you would be dead if Kara- Supergirl hadn’t arrived sooner.
- Wait, Kara is Supergirl?!
- Yes.
- Huh, she fooled me…
- Yes, me too. – We both giggled at the fact, until her smile faded once more.
- When I took her call from the hospital, I lost the floor upon me. I stayed by your side all the time, regretting all the danger I had put you in. When you woke up without your memories, it was the last drop of water. Then I decided to keep you away from me to keep you safe. I should never have believed that I could be with you and be a Luthor at the same time!
She cried even more and I couldn’t help but hold her in a embrace immediately. I couldn’t even imagine the pain inside Lena’s heart, seeing me, her wife, and pretend we were nothing. All this pressure and the fear… I would lost my mind if she were the one in that hospital bed.
- I wanted to tell you everything all the time! I almost lost you! – Lena said with a hoarse voice while she held me as if I could escape at any moment.
- Lena, you will never lose me! – I claimed while I held her tight. – I felt in love with you because of all the times you laughed at my bad jokes, you’ve always cared about me and helped me at everything. I am in love with you because, somehow, you are just like me, and you’ve been a mystery I’ll never give up. I married you because I love you and I want to be with you forever. I knew that since that game night when you had let me win at Uno.
- (Y/n)! Did you just remembered?! – Lena looked at me with surprise on her face. Wait. H2OH MY GHOSH!
- Oh my god! I just did! I remember you!!! – I couldn’t hold this emotion to me anymore, so I put my arms around her neck and kissed those beautiful red lips. Oh how I’ve missed those lips, her kiss, her touch, everything about her. We only pulled apart when the air turned necessary. I found the world once again, and it was in Lena’s eyes.
- So… You invaded our penthouse. – We giggled once again.
- Well, in my defense, I hadn’t many options, and our dog is not the best watchdog.
- Oh, don’t be that bad to Amy, she tries her best. She can’t help but love you.
- I love her too. Can I ask you something?
- Of course, love, anything.
I took my phone out of my pocket and Lena glanced it with confusion.
- Do you know my password?
- Oh, yes! It is 0707, the day of our marriage.
- Am I that cheesy?
- Yes, you are. – She gave that bright smile I love.
- It worked! – I started play one of the songs I had in my phone. – Would you dance with me?
- I would love.
And that’s how we finished the night, with kisses and the best I could make of dancing.
After a few weeks, my leg got better and I got my memories back. I have friends, I have a dog, I have a wife!
I remember now!
And my name is (y/e/n).
That’s it,
Bye!

The Mouse and the Spider by I’m Over There: Jim Moriarty gets bored. Molly Hooper gets lonely. They’re just two planets revolving around the brilliant sun that is Sherlock Holmes, drawn in by his gravity. And his light. But everybody needs distractions…
Song as Old as Rhyme by @wherestoriescomefrom:  Hush, the wind is blowing hard. Be quiet, child, sleep soundly - Or the Dark One will steal your heart. [Beauty and the Beast AU]
Nameless by @wherestoriescomefrom: The first name was expected - even welcomed. The second, on the other hand, left much to be desired. And Jim would never understand what it was about it that was compelling. [Soulmate AU: On one hand, the name of your soulmate, on the other - your enemy. Molliarty.]
The Rose Point Manor:  A young woman struggling in an unjust society takes a break from the theatrics of pretending to be her male counterpart, Mark Hooper, and decides to relax at the quiet but foreboding Rose Point Manor. There she comes to a realization that something far more sinister lurks there than at her morgue back home - Victorian AU
We’re Ancient History:  When Molly Hooper had begun her scientific expedition, she never knew her time on the dig sites would unearth more than the dead.
Forget Me Not:  “This melancholy London - I sometimes imagine that the souls of the lost are compelled to walk through its streets perpetually. One feels them passing like a whiff of air.” What happens when two lost souls find each other? Are they still forgotten? - Amnesia!AU
Capture My Good Side: “Photography is all about secrets. The secrets we all have and will never tell.”
Deus Mortis: "You can hide from the devil, but he’ll always find you.“ - Victorian AU
Face Value: “I’m not sure how to describe this nonsense, basically Molly looks good in a moustache and Jim notices.”
Not a Body Farm: Molly really should’ve known better than to download FarmVille on a criminal mastermind’s cell phone, even if it had been a hilarious joke at the time. Since one day she wakes up in a bed in some random farm in the middle of nowhere, and the deed to the property in her name.
Oh God, Not the Westwood!:  In which timid Molly Hooper must hide a heinous crime from a man who likes to watch a murder take place while drinking his morning coffee.
Life Preserver: “Missing you comes in waves and tonight I am drowning.”
Midnight Edition: The Bittersweet: Pop-rocks can be unpredictable. In an instance, a delight to the senses, or startling painful the next - smut
The Bittersweet:  Even delicious things can be sour, at another glance.
Third Date Syndrome: Long bouts of silence and awkwardness on first dates are inevitable, and for the hundredth time Molly wished she was exempted from it.
We’ll Always Have St. Barts: “I wish I didn’t love you so much.” - Casablanca AU
Apex: Molly Hooper thinks fondly of Jim from IT, but can’t get enough of Jim Moriarty - contains smut~
The Parting Glass: After Reichenbach, Molly Hooper is drowning. She receives a package, request and tradition from a very dead Jim Moriarty. She receives nothing but burdens from a very alive Sherlock Holmes.
Rust and Stardust: “The last long lap is the hardest. I shall be dumped where the weed decays, and the rest is rust and stardust.” - Jim is a ghost, and wouldn’t it just figure that he haunts Molly Hooper.
Wild and Precious: “Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” - How Molly fell in love with a ghost, and tried not to waste her life beside him. She failed. - settled in the same universe of Rust and Stardust
Release: Written for the prompt “Jim fucking Molly so hard and so good that she can’t even get a full word out, only moans and half-uttered curses “: In which Jim surprises Molly after work - contains smut~
A Love Outside of Time: There’s a lot of strange happenings at 2945 S Willow Street, shrieks and screams and moans that have terrorized the neighbors and left the house unsold for generations. Can the great paranormal investigator, Sherlock Holmes, exorcise the spirits living there?
Gifts Given and Received: Sherlock ruined Molly’s Christmas gift and Jim is determined to make her holiday better. - ASIB AU, contains smut~
Cabernet Sauvignon: Written for the prompt “Jim’s ready to propose, but wants the event to be special, and so he hides the ring in Molly’s wine. Molly drinks it down too fast and chokes on the ring”: A fluffy slice of life, where Molly makes Jim’s life just a little less lonely.
Power Dynamic: Molly can’t help trying to control the insanity that is Jim Moriarty. A framework for his mind to lean on, a collar to hold him together, a mistress to keep him mostly sane.
Asphodel: “When you need slightly-less-than-legal magic substances, you seek out ‘Moriarty’s Special Imports and Fineries’. A new branch of Necromancy, pathologist-in-training Molly Hooper returns a set of counterfeit goods and receives a job offer in return.” - Fantasy AU
Her beast feature: “As he studied her from afar, Jim thought Molly’s best feature was her neck. He really didn’t anticipate her reaction to Sherlock beating a dead man with a riding crop.” - Molly x Jim, PWP, set at the beginning of A Study in Pink
Junior: So what’s a beleaguered pathologist to do when the UK’s Most Wanted turns up to visit her cat?
Mr Sex: Jim doesn’t ask her what she likes or what she needs; it’s not necessary. But he asks her what she wants - contains smut
Sunday Afternoon: Sleep with Molly Hooper:  Molly canceled their date at the last minute, but no one messes with Jim’s precisely organized calendar and gets away with it.
Why Don’t You Do Right?:  Seb arranges for Molly to get an extra special, early birthday present. Jim gets to learn something new about Molly. And Molly discovers one of Jim’s deepest secrets.
Club Calavera: Downing five zombies doesn’t give Jim the liquid courage he needs to ask Molly a very important question. It only makes him forget that he and Molly are already together.
Happy Birthday, Jimmy Boy: Jim’s never had a good birthday. Molly’s determined to buck the trend. - contains smut
It’s A Nice Day For a [White Wedding]: The wedding of James Moriarty to Molly Hooper can be nothing less than a momentous occasion. In his speech, their best man recounts some of the juicier bits of Jim and Molly’s journey into matrimony.
Cold War: She had to admit Jim was creative. Who else would think to kill three ice cream salesmen from different towns and attach a one-worded note to each corpse, forming the sentence, “Ready to concede?”
My Persuasion Can Build a Nation: In a world where Eurus had a best friend growing up, she doesn’t go to Sherrinford, nor does she turn out as unhinged as she did in canon. However, she’s still Eurus, and her brothers absolutely forbid her from meeting Jim Moriarty. She’ll just have to fix that, won’t she? Also: Matchmaker!Eurus ftw.
What Sober Couldn’t Say: “(11:23 pm) Drinking again(11:24 pm) And since it makes me too sad to go on my blog anymore thanks to you, I figured it’s only fair you become my new place to vent(11:25 pm) You’re probably not receiving these messages anyway so no harm no foul(11:25 pm) Right?” - Molly drunk-texts Jim over the course of several months.
I Wanna Feel Like I Am Floating: “Now the question is…" He vamp-flipped them over so she was lying down and his body was pinning hers. “Should I tie you up and make you take it, or are you going to be a good little vampire and let Daddy have his way with you?” Jim & Molly’s journey: blood-sharing edition.- Vampire!Molliarty AU, s-m-u-t.
Coffin Shopping: Sebastian could only imagine what the other, mostly ancient customers perusing the store must be thinking of the couple in their thirties, bubbling with laughter and fooling around as they ran about in search of the perfect coffin.
Come To Daddy: Jim failed to see how Molly’s physicality could ever not be arousing. The size of her lips did nothing to detract from how amazing she was at sucking cock. The size of her breasts made it no less fun for Jim to cup them in his hands, tease her nipples into hard peaks, suck on them until she squirmed and made those delightful little sounds. - smuttish ;)
Intention: A take on how the brief but unforgettable office romance between Jim from IT and Molly from Pathology began and how it just might become more than just a simple office romance.
An Exchange: Jim Moriarty comes across a familiar face and realises, from just one exchange, that it is not merely Sherlock Holmes that connects them, but a connection of their own.
A Beginning: Jim Moriarty tries to make sense of new waves of sentiment as his office romance with Molly Hooper transits to become something more.
Interruptions: Molly Hooper is made to face a stunning revelation about Jim Moriarty, but it is her reaction that stuns him most.
An Enemy’s Gift: In the pursuit of his greatest enemy, Jim Moriarty makes an unexpected discovery.
On Fanfiction.net:
Life: James Moriarty is in trouble, so much trouble that he fears for his life. He soon learns, however, he has absolutely nothing to fear, not with Molly Hooper around.
Spiders: Molly and Jim have a casual chat laced with hints of their plans, revealing a side to Molly that both surprises and seduces Jim.
(Re)kindle: Jim Moriarty is perplexed at the lasting impression a certain Molly Hooper has left on him. When his rekindled fascination with her meets an unexpected obstacle, an animosity is ignited.

[requested: so starting off in a relationship with jinyoung → accident → amnesia → relying almost  entirely on jaebum (hint at love triangle) + the choice of ending was left up to me]
FIN
“Why don’t we just let it go?”
Tumblr media
🌙
Have you ever loved someone so much, you can barely breathe when you’re with them?
“I had a lot of fun with you tonight.”
“Was that before or after you had to carry me home?”
His laugh reverberates in his chest, tickling mine as I feel it against his back. I lift my head to rest it on his shoulder and nudge my temple against his neck.
“You didn’t have to,” I say softly even as my arms instinctively tighten around his shoulders.
“True, and you are kind of heavy.”
“Park Jinyoung!”
He laughs again, letting his head fall against mine before his arms – hooked under my knees – lifts me a little. “You said you were dizzy! And you live ten minutes away.”
“Twenty,” I mumble defensively to express my guilt.
“No one drinks wine like you, okay? You’re supposed to hold it up to your nose, smell it first, and then sip.”
“I did that!”
He stops walking and tilts his head, staring at me incredulously. “You chugged it from a paper cup.”
“I take big sips,” I snort.
He’s silent as his eyes narrow judgmentally. I have a clever remark waiting at the tip of my tongue for him, but he pecks my cheek and a laugh spills from my mouth.
“Hey.” I tap his arms for him to let me down, nudging his side with my knee until he carefully lowers me, never letting go until my feet are on the ground. I hold out my hand and he takes it as we continue the short way back to my place.
I know he was indulging in my vanity when he carried me from the studio. Knowing I wanted to show off a little, that I was proud of being able to say that we were together, even if for tonight.
For all I know, he could rethink the entire thing and decide to stay friends. It’s not like we were in a relationship. He was just the guy who asked me to get food with him sometimes. Some guy from my philosophy class I painted for an assignment.
But I sneak a glance at him as we walk along the empty streets and he’s so entirely his own.
Jinyoung was the kind of person who didn’t care what people thought of him. Maybe he indulged in his own vanity, but he never struck me as the type who could be someone else’s somebody.
I envied that. And I was self-conscious as somebody he wanted to know. The truth is, I go back and forth between reassuring myself that I’m doing what’s best for me and reminding myself what a fuck-up I am for it. I mean, I did take pride in my work and I was afraid to show that sometimes I didn’t. It just never occurred to me that what Jinyoung thought of me would ever be important.
I want that. I want that to be important to me. I want him to be important to me.
As we stand together waiting for the light to turn, maybe because I’m a little disoriented, I can’t stop thinking about his hand in mine and the warmth of his palm. And my hands being so grossly sweaty, but he hasn’t said or done anything to indicate he notices.
I take a step closer and he takes his hand back, to my disappointment. But he wraps his arm around my shoulders and gently brings me into his side as we wait. His jacket is soft against the skin of my cheek and I hesitate before wrapping my arm around his waist.
Between the cars passing us, I can just barely hear him murmur to me, maybe even to himself, “You don’t have to hide from me.”
Without thinking, without stopping to wonder what I’d meant to him then, nothing else seemed to matter. I was so used to having to explain myself to the people who told me it was a hopeless dream, an unproductive, uncertain thing to love. When he told me not to, I couldn’t help myself.
I held back hot tears, hid them under gasping laughter because, for the first time in a long time, someone believed in me. Even just the littlest amount, however much it is, Jinyoung believed in me.
“They were beautiful,” he said softly under the streetlights, “I’m proud of you.”
And he squeezes my shoulder, but I bury my face in his jacket. He lets me catch my breath. I manage to whisper, “I’m sorry,” and repeat it again and again only for myself to hear.
I’m sorry because I fell in love tonight.
🌙
I found him sitting outside the art department waiting for me, just like he said he would. Even after I told him I could walk myself home, he stopped answering those texts. That was almost an hour ago.
As I get closer, my footsteps become lighter and I tilt my head only to smile at the book in his lap. Always had a book in his lap, his knee crossed over the other, and his hair fallen over his forehead.
I bend down behind the bench and put my hands over Jinyoung’s eyes, holding back a guilty laugh when he visibly jumps. His hands grip the book just for a moment before he relaxes against his seat.
“Guess who,” I sing coyly.
The muscles in his face move under my touch, his cheekbones too, as he wrinkles his nose. “It’s pretty obvious, I know your voice.”
I roll my eyes and throw my hands up, resting them on his shoulders. “You’re so broody.”
But I kiss his cheek noisily, smiling when he turns to me with one of his own. That serene, relaxed kind that looked sleepy when I first met him. Soft. Jinyoung was so terribly soft.
His hand reaches out to touch my cheek. The back of his knuckles skim my jaw and chin, stroking the corner of my mouth with the pad of his thumb. He looks at me and I don’t want to move. I’ve never been touched so tenderly by someone, never felt so entranced by the way someone’s eyes can hold mine.
He has touched my lips and kissed every inch of my skin, but I’m still getting used to being loved by him.
“And you’ve got too much energy for me,” Jinyoung murmurs before kissing me gently.
Beside myself, my lips twitch and I lower my head, laughing silently as I press my hand over the one he cradles my face in. I lace my fingers through his and stand up as he extends his arm so I could walk around the bench, never letting go of him.
“I’m sorry you had to wait so long.”
He shakes his head, “I had to get some reading done anyway. I’m standing in for a professor next week and I really don’t want to blank in front of eighty kids.”
“Kids?”
“Freshman,” he corrects himself, exasperated. “I want to be respectable.”
I look down at his pale blue button-down shirt and pressed black slacks, blinking at the patent leather shoes before meeting the amused expression on his face.
“What?”
“Jinyoung,” I sigh out, “You already dress like their grandfathers, you don’t have to worry about being respectable.”
He blinks, tilting his head up at me. “Why are we together again?”
“Because you feel safe going completely unhinged around me?”
“Huh.” He lets go of my hand and puts his book in his shiny, pressed leather messenger bag that I thought was so damn pretentious. “Thought it was because you’re charming and ridiculously full of life. Could have something to do with your ability to paint me extremely well.”
“If you love me, you can just say so. I mean, if your pride can handle it,” I grin widely.
“And spoil you? Absolutely not.” He stands up and takes my chin between his fingers again to kiss my forehead. “Besides, that’s too simple. And there are other ways to say it.”
“Like?”
“Like, I can’t wait to have dinner with your parents next week and tell them what an incredibly talented daughter they have.”
I lower my eyes, biting my lip to hide the girlish glee bubbling in my stomach. “My dad wouldn’t let you in the house after that.”
“That’s too bad,” Jinyoung shrugs, not feeling sorry at all. “Guess I’ll just climb up through your window. Get real Shakespearean with it.”
“You’re such a nerd.”
“You love this nerd.”
I shake my head and pull him away from the bench. “Can’t argue with that logic. I call Romeo!”
“You don’t want to be Juliet? She owns the last half of the play.”
“No way, you’d look way better in the dress.”
He laughs next to me, nudging his shoulder into mine before putting his hand on the small of my back and pulling me to him, walking together in strides.
“So what kept you?” he asked.
“Struggling with a piece,” I shrug, “Couldn’t quite get it how I wanted.”
“Another block?”
“Something like that.”
Jinyoung squeezes my hip as we stop at the crosswalk. “You’ll figure it out. There’s nothing you can’t paint.”
That gentle, so certain confidence in his voice takes my breath away. I want to tell him that that’s not true. There are plenty of things I couldn’t put on canvas, not even the best artists could.
But I look at him and find the pride I searched for in people I’ve known all my life. So does it even matter?
He’s going to say I painted the sun and stars and the moon in the sky if I tried to argue anyway.
He turns his head to look back at me knowingly and shakes his head with an amused smirk.
But I could never paint the depth of his gaze when he’s reading words off a page out loud. Or hear his laugh even though I’ve memorized every line in his face, every curve and crook of his hands when he covers his mouth.
Even though it’s never stopped me from trying, I could never capture Jinyoung in all that he is.
There are no colors, shades, hues of any kind that could give life to the light he brings out of me or the one I spark in him.
🌙
I don’t expect Jinyoung to come to the studio. I don’t expect anything, or even allow myself to want anything from him. Not when he hasn’t tried to contact me and knowing that what was left between us was all we had left.
In an entirely selfish way, I think maybe it’s better if he decides to never see me again. At least then he could forget me. It’s only fair when I’d forgotten him. I try not to listen to myself, to that little part of me that is getting easier to ignore whenever the thought that I deserve to be forgotten creeps into my mind.
Still, it doesn’t stop me from waiting for him.
But six o’clock passes, then seven, and eight. K leaves at nine after he hands me the keys. The time passes either like a blur or achingly slow, and I’m caught between looking over a work-in-progress and washing up. In the end, I’m just waiting and trying to hide it.
He comes, I’ll talk to him.
He doesn’t, then he doesn’t.
He comes, I’ll tell him the truth.
He doesn’t, then he doesn’t.
He comes, I’ll tell him to forget.
He doesn’t, then he doesn’t.
If he comes, I deserve it.
If he doesn’t, I deserve it.
I’m not ready. Whether Jinyoung will show up or not, I’m not ready to face him now and Jaebum is right. I’ll never be ready to face him. I’m afraid to do the hard thing if it means that I’ll be hurting him.
But I’m afraid that if I don’t, I won’t be—
“Hello?”
Run.
A chill runs up my spine as I put my dirty brushes in the sink and take a step towards the door. With hesitating hands, I push it open. He’s not up yet.
“Hello?”
Hide in the cleanup. Maybe he’ll leave.
He won’t. Jinyoung is not someone who just gives up after not even trying. He doesn’t believe in doing the easy thing. He cares too much to ever choose the easy thing.
I’m scared. But I step outside and work up that bit of bravery he saw in me to call out, “Up here! Cleaning!”
Like nothing’s wrong. As if he didn’t leave my hospital room with his hands balled into fists and his head down because he couldn’t bear to look at me.
Be brave, I tell myself and shut my eyes, opening them when footsteps echo from the steps. Be brave.
I walk over to meet him halfway, but the sight of him leaves me breathless. His chest is heaving slightly like he was trying to catch his breath and sweat gleamed from his temple down his neck. Tucked under one of his arms is a small shoebox.
Did he run here? To give my stuff back?
My eyes are fixated on the white box, at the little bits of paper tucked inside and instinctively wrack my brain for what it could be that I gave to him. Thinking it could distract me from this gnawing emptiness in my stomach.
“I wasn’t sure—“ His voice cuts through the silence between us.
I look to him and find that he’s staring right back. Jinyoung, who was beautiful even with tears shining in his eyes, the beautiful boy who waited for me. Who told me that everything was going to be okay when I didn’t even know his voice anymore.
Jinyoung who promised to love me if he never saw me again.
“I honestly didn’t know if I should have come,” he murmurs. And I hear it in his voice, the uncertainty and that doubt he tried so hard to hide from me. If it meant protecting me, he’d choke on his own pain before any of it could touch me.
I smooth my already dry hands on my jeans, not knowing what to say. “Sorry. I mean, thank you,” I add quickly, blinking at the floor. “Sorry, it’s late.”
“It’s fine. Are you okay?”
“How can you ask me that?” I blurt out before I can take it back.
He flinches as if I’ve just hit him.
I purse my lips and look up at the ceiling so he can’t see me, but I know he does and that makes it so much worse. My fingers squeeze the thick fabric of my jeans, trying to stay calm. To keep myself level, think good thoughts, think real and good thoughts.
I am not broken. I am not broken.
My throat feels tight as I watch Jinyoung watch me in stunned silence, but I can’t keep him waiting like this. I take a shaky breath in, then carefully out.
“All this time, even now, you’ve put me before you. Even when it hurt to hear me say that I-I forgot—“
I covered my mouth and breathe through my nose, keeping my eyes up. Keep the tears back and show him that I am not this broken thing. I am not fragile, not the glass girl he was too scared to even touch in that hospital bed.
“I’m sorry, Jinyoung.” I raise my chin and meet his eyes even when all I want to do is put my head down. “I wanted to tell you that you didn’t deserve that. And I’m sorry for making you wait for me. I’m sorry for every minute and every second that I ever wanted you to wait for me.”
I’m sorry to him even now for wanting him to meet the distance between us, knowing it could drag him to sink with me.
He clears his throat and it echoes through the empty room before he takes the steps closer to me.
As he nears, I notice how tired Jinyoung actually looks. His shoulders slightly slacked, footsteps heavy. There was a bit of color under his eyes and a barely noticeable sag in the lines of his mouth.
He stops in front of me with the box still securely tucked under his arm. And he says to me very carefully, “You could have died.”
“I—“
“I almost lost you,” he cuts me off, drawing closer until he’s standing over me. “Maybe it’s selfish. I’m sorry if it is, but I almost lost the girl I love. The last thing I wanted is for you to apologize to me for losing yourself.”
I shake my head, not knowing what else to say or do to make this better or how to tell him that that wasn’t what I meant. I want to run away. I’m not ready. I need to run away.
The box falls with a loud clack, flutters of paper and pit-pats of things I couldn’t discern. All I know is that Jinyoung has his arms around me. He can still find it in himself, in all the pain I didn’t mean to give him, to wrap me up.
His fingers find my hair, trying to give me tenderness when all he wanted was to know that I feel it, to want to make me feel it. His other hand is at my back, squeezing me to him.
“Why did you wait?” My question is a whimper against his shoulder and I want to hook my arms around them, but it still feels too scary. Too terrible to want someone so much.
“I told you. If there was a chance, I would. I told you,” he says, so sure of himself. So unfamiliar, but I know. “So why don’t we just let it go?”
The weight of his arms lifts, but he takes my face in his hands and I search for him as he searches for me. I don’t want to let it go. I don’t want to this to be all that we’re living for.
“I said I’d wait for you to be you,” Jinyoung says with a forlorn smile. It didn’t reach his eyes and neither did mine. “And in the meantime, I’d be me. I thought, Im Jaebum – maybe – I didn’t think. And I forgot you too when I was angry.
I held his wrists in my hands, allowing myself this selfishness. I let myself need his closeness, to want his tenderness, want his longing for me. I want to wrap him up, want to kiss his lips. I want him to be wanted.
But all too soon, the warmth of his touch leaves my skin. He takes my hands in his, his own fingers twitch before he squeezes mine. “I didn’t come here to change my mind.”
“Even with what we have left?” I ask in spite of my selfish thoughts. “Even when it’s broken?”
“It doesn’t have to be forever,” he answers hoarsely, stopping to clear his throat again. “We aren’t broken; this isn’t your fault. I want you to be you and I’ll still be me and I still want what we have. It was never broken for me. You were never broken to me.”
“Then why did you bring my stuff back?”
He bends down and picks up some of the papers that’d fallen, all creased from folding and covered in ink or pencil shavings, easel stains, oil blots. Jinyoung holds them out and up to me, unfolding them carefully.
“You can’t keep this, these are all things you gave me,” he says defensively, eyes wide and determined. “I didn’t come here to give it all back, I wanted to show you that they’re real. And so are we. And so was this part of you.”
“Then I want to know the part of me that had you.”
Maybe we can’t ever be the same. I don’t think there’s anything in the world that could fix what’s wrong or replace what’s gone. So why shouldn’t we let that go if it means we can start here?
I put my hands at the sides of his neck and I look at Jinyoung the way he has always wanted. He doesn’t dare touch me now and I see his hesitation despite wanting to.
“Can I kiss you?” I ask as he lowers his head to mine. His nose brushes along the length of mine and I can almost taste his warm breath as it fans over my mouth.
He cradles my chin between his knuckles and strokes my cheek with his thumb.
We don’t know if anything is going to be okay. We don’t even know if this could turn out the way we want or if Jinyoung and I would find what we’re hoping to find. I don’t need him to fix me. He cannot whisper the aching in my bones away or lick my wounds to vanish.
Only I can do what I need to do for me, on my own, to live with the scars.
All I know is his kiss, how he says, “I love you” in all the different ways he knows how without making it simple.
All I know is this moment, I cannot say that I don’t remember him when I know this happiness. I know the depth of his love brimming in those glassy eyes that I can’t paint. I know the sound of his laugh as it’s one that’s hard to hear.
He crushes me to him with his hands in my hair and his mouth coaxing mine open. I hear myself whisper his name and feel us both let it go.

Title: Hoarfrost Hel: Spellbound Author: @wickednerdery Fandom: Marvel Pairing/character: Thor & Tony Stark (& Mutant!OC) Rating: Teen Summary: “Loki...Is it a person or item?” Notes: This is back to when Loki was taken away here. This is the second part of what’s shaping up to be a legit trilogy (the first is FrostBitten) - the master list is here. The story on whole is gonna be very dark, this piece itself - which starts Thor’s main story - is actually tame aside from some yelling, cursing, and poor Thor moments. Still, for consistency and length, it gets a “Read More”.
It is Odin who tricks Thor away from his brother, leaving Loki unprotected and easily taken. It is Odin who induces forgetfulness and spreads it through Asgard like a poison. The king works his magic to make it grow so that throughout the realms, in time, Loki might be forgotten completely. Like Hela before his adopted son would become nothing but a story, a mere fantasy; no one and nothing true. Odin would put distance between himself, his family, and his unfortunate error once again to save his pride and crown.
By the time Thor returns to the rock there is nothing there but smashed rubble and the faint sense of urgency. He’d come to the edge of the grounds for some reason, an important task, but the answers are all behind a fog. Earnest eyes scan for answers, for questions, something beyond kicked up and bloodied dirt.
His mother’s lullaby hits his ears and he turns back, up, to the palace. With placid face and knowing smile Frigga hums and, as Thor watches her, she changes before him. Deep blue dress turns green and gold. Long blond hair smooths into shoulder-length black and her whole form changes. The woman looks wholly recognizable, yet Thor cannot place the man she’s become. “You must find him, Thor. Save your brother. Protect Loki.”
“Loki...” Thor repeats the name heard only in his mind; it feels right. Real. He looks around, as if he might find this Loki nearby, before looking back up to catch sight of his mother walking back into the palace. “Loki....Loki...Loki...” The god repeats the name over and over, keeping it foremost in his mind, as he hurries to Heimdall’s observatory. “I must find a Loki, what can you see, Heimdall?”
The man narrows his eyes, ticks head slightly. “Loki? I’m afraid I do not know this word. Is it a person or item?” If he has a clearer idea of what he’s looking for, perhaps he can find it.
“I...” Thor clung to the name, but forgot its meaning. He tries to recall his mother (this Loki is tied to her, is it not?), then smiles. “I believe it is a being.”
Heimdall nods, closes eyes to concentrate, but there is nothing. Only tenuous threads he cannot weave into anything substantial and even those fray before his very mind’s eye. “I am sorry, Thor, but I can find nothing.” It was so very usual, very strange. “Perhaps it’s something to do with your time on Midgard?”
“...Perhaps...”
“Shall I send you there in search of answers and this lost...thing.” Heimdall himself’s already forgotten what they’re in search for.
“Yes, I shall go to Stark’s.” He cannot say why he picks Tony except he’s the smartest man Thor knows of on Midgard. And, if this...Loki...was a dangerous thing Tony would most certainly be prepared and ready for battle beside him.
“Very well, my prince, I shall send you directly,” Heimdall bows his head and, in a moment’s flash, Thor is at the end of Stark’s long landing pad at The Avenger’s Tower.
Not even leaving his lands can stop the disintegration of Thor’s memory though; not even reaching Midgard can protect him from his own father’s magic. By the time he reaches Stark, lounging on a deck chair, his face’s fallen to confusion. ...What has he come to ask again?
Tony’s brows rise in alarm, then fall in the wait for Thor to speak. “You alright there, Point Break?”
“I’m sorry, my friend.” Thor knows he needs help, but the reason, the trouble, is fogged from him. It’s something distant, unattainable, but very true and very real. “I...I came to request your aid...only now I’ve forgotten why.”
“So you came here to ask for my help...” Tony’s stands, examines his friend more closely. “But can’t remember with what?”
"I cannot,” Thor confesses with a sigh, running hand through hair, twisting hammer in the other. He can remember years, centuries. He has a god’s memory, how can he forget something he is certain recently occurred?!
“You hit your head on the Bifrost or something?”
Eyes fall to despair. “No.”
“Uh....huh...” He didn’t think gods could get amnesia, yet here was Thor, a god, standing all amnesiac before him. “Look, buddy, how ‘bout we go inside, have a drink, and see if we can’t figure this out, yeah?”
“Very well, my friend.”
Tony lets Thor follow as his mind begins to gather what little facts there are and formulate theories. Whatever is going on, it’s powerful enough to mess with a god’s mind. That said, Thor seems of sound mind and, potentially, with solid recall aside from whatever he needs help with. So what are they looking at here? Injury? Infection? Something else entirely? Tony skips the bar in the penthouse for the one down in his workshop and let’s Thor settle on a nearby chair as he pours for both of them - definitely need a drink or two before opening whatever can of worms this is.
“I adjusted the coding and cleared out the spare bugs from your latest suit, Stark.” The voice itself is almost robotic, but Thor sees clearly the being is flesh and blood. Back to them, hunkering down over a series of computers, he catches feminine eyes in the reflection of one of the screens. “That Thor?”
“Yeah,” Tony tips back his first drink, pours his second, as Thor takes his first. “Lynk, this is Thor, Thor,” he points to the person’s back. “Lynk with a Y...my tech assistant.” Pepper will always run most of his stuff, but Lynk has certain, unique, abilities that makes her utterly invaluable to him in his work.
Thor smiles. “Greetings, fair maid.”
“Yeah...No.”
Thor’s face falls. “No?”
Lips lift, but focus remains on the computers. “I’m not a fair maid, Mr Odinson. I’m just Lynk.”
“You may call me Thor, if you wish.”
“Okay then, Thor. I’m still Lynk.”
Thor looks to Tony, unsure, but Tony just shrugs and finishes his second drink. “Okay, so this thing you need help with...”
“Yes?”
“Let’s do process of elimination.”
“Very well.”
“It have anything to do with Earth?”
“...Not directly, I don’t believe...”
“Asgard then?”
“Maybe.”
“You personally?”
“…I...in a way, perhaps?”
“Family maybe?”
Thor’s pause is especially long, his heart and mind arguing for an accurate answer. “I...I believe so.”
“Parents?”
“They are not the issue...but maybe connected to it?” His mother turned into it, hadn’t she? Yes, yes she had, but...but Thor cannot recall what she’d turned into anymore.
Tony sighs, now presuming the whole thing a giant waffling by the god. “Fuck. if it’s Loki just say so, Thor. I’m still unlikely to help, but at least I’d admire the boldness of asking directly.”
“Wha-? Who...Who is...Loki?” And why did it sound so familiar and yet not at the same time?
“Loki, also known as Loki Laufeyson or Loki Odinson, is the God of Mischief and listed as a top-tier intergalactic terrorist by S.H.I.E.L.D.. His attempts to take over Earth resulted in the destruction of Manhattan and countless deaths. Captured by The Avengers Initiative he was turned over to his brother, Thor Odinson, God of Thunder, to be returned to Asgard where his punishment would be set by the King of Asgard, Odin Allfather.” The young woman’s turned to them both, face showing a mix of concern and interest. “You can’t remember your own brother?”
She is slight, pale, with spiked, jet black, hair and many bits of metal in her face...Thor cannot recall seeing another like her on Midgard. He smiles in spite of his current predicament. “You know him?”
“Of him,” Lynk clarifies. “I was lecturing in Boston when he came to New York, but I watched the news. Question is, why don’t you?”
“Maybe it’s Loki himself doing this?” Tony offers. “It’s not beyond him, right? Take out his brother, escape, rally some troops, come back at Earth again.”
“You’re making assumptions without basis,” she counters flatly.
“My basis is I know the guy. I’ve seen what he can do, first hand.”
“Why give his brother amnesia then send him in your direction?”
“Distraction? Shits and giggles? How should I know.”
Lynk’s eyes switch to Thor. “We need more data.”
Thor has no issue with basic or advanced memory tests, brain scans show no clear injury or disease, and nothing can be found in his blood that would suggest a cause for his amnesia. Both Tony and Lynk remain stuck, unsure what to test for next, as Thor lays on the table looking up at both of them.
“Do we know why I’ve forgotten what I’ve forgotten?” Again Loki’s existence has slipped from his mind, but not the urgency of the need to help, to get help.
“No,” Tony sighs; Thor frowns deeply. “But I’m starting to guess some kind of magic, which leads us back to Loki.”
“Who?”
“Are you sure you actually need help, Thor? Or do you just...feel like you need it?”
“I need help, of that I’m certain.”
Lynk looks down. “With...or for...your brother, Loki, yeah?”
The fog thickens. “I…cannot recall.”
Tony rolls eyes in frustration, convinced this is some elaborate trick by the God of Mischief. He wants no part of it; better to hunker down, fortify, with backup plans for when Loki’s true scheme is ultimately revealed. “This is probably all just a big fucking hoax.”
“It is not a hoax!” Thor flies up, roars his own frustration, as sparks crack across the metal table. The need to accomplish a goal he cannot recall has settled deep and sure in his heart even if his mind continues to betray him.
“Woah, hey there!” Tony’s thumb discreetly goes to his suit’s activation button as he and Lynk both jump back. “I don’t think you’re tricking me.”
“You think another is tricking us all,” Thor states firmly, hammer held out as if ready to crash. “I am not a fool, Stark, I know my own heart!”
“I might know someone who can help, Thor,” Lynk speaks up quickly, hoping to both placate and distract as she feels the machines around them shiver with the herself and Tony.
The storm in the god dies and he turns as hope blooms once more. “Truly?”
“He might be able to figure out what you can’t remember or, at the very least, maybe why you can’t remember.” She looks to Tony, who’s finally beginning to breathe again. “If it’s a trick by Loki, then you might know what he’s up to and, if it’s not...” She smiles at Thor. “Then maybe we’ll know how to help.”
Honest trouble or not, Tony had no interest in helping Loki. He still woke up in the middle of night, sweaty and short of breath, thanks to that asshole. Best not to piss of his friend, the god, though. “Sure, if you know someone who’s willing. Can’t hurt to try, right?”
“Right.”
Thor grins. “Take me to him now, fair Lynk.”
I legit feel bad writing Thor like this...in part because I know he already gets a bad wrap as sorta being the “slow on the uptake” one and I don’t think he is. That said, Odin’s clouding his - and everyone else in Asgard’s - mind from remembering Loki so it’s not like I can have Thor just putting it all together, haha! Frigga only does because she’s very powerful in magic herself. Lynk is a mutant - though there’s only a hint of her powers shown in this - and will be important to Thor going forward so...hope you like, lol!  (And, damn, I’m prod of myself for getting two out relatively quick after the holidays so go me, haha! ^_^)

Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures - Rapunzel: Day One
In the sixteenth episode of Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventures, Rapunzel accidentally gains amnesia and forgets everything that’s happened since she left the tower.
The episode starts off with Rapunzel and Cassandra still at odds following the events of Rapunzel and the Great Tree as both girls are still upset they didn’t listen to each other. In order to try and lift the tension between them, Rapunzel volunteers herself and Cassandra to get supplies in hopes of getting an opportunity to talk things over. Who would’ve thought the events would led to Cassandra accidentally erasing Rapunzel’s memories of EVERYTHING that’s happened since she left the tower. This was certainly an interesting episode as Rapunzel got to experience life outside the tower for the first time all over again and Cassandra got to see what Rapunzel used to be like. I think it’s safe to say, this episode really showed Cassandra how much Rapunzel really has changed and grown even before they first met. Plus I can’t count how many times I said déjà vu due to the number of references from the film that were used in this episode from Rapunzel using her hair to ty up Cassandra or swinging around in the tree. I really enjoyed those moments.
I gotta say I really liked Owl as he played the part of Cassandra’s conscience since she refused to tell Rapunzel the truth about the situation and because of her dishonesty it definitely came back to bite her later in the episode. What goes around comes around. However, one of the sweetest moments was the campfire when Rapunzel showed Cassandra how important it is to open up to others when she talked about leaving the tower. Again déjà vu, it reminds me of the campfire between Rapunzel and Eugene. However, from that moment forward the episode got WAY more exciting when Rapunzel went rogue and the moment between her and Lance was ABSOLUTELY FREAKING HILARIOUS. I CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT SHE DID. IT WAS SO FUNNY. Things continued to get way of out hand when Rapunzel captured Eugene and Lance and had them hanging over a lake of piranhas. In the end though, Cass managed to talk Rapunzel down, apologised and gave her the antidote... although Eugene and Lance still fell in the lake and were attacked by the piranhas unfortunately.
Anyway as for the boys, I can’t believe how very little screen-time Eugene, Lance, and the rest of the group had. It just goes to show this was a real Rapunzel and Cassandra centric episode. I have to admit though, I was REALLY hoping this would be a Rapunzel and Eugene centric episode since Rapunzel forgot she loves Eugene and hopes to marry him one day. I honestly would have LOVED to have seen Eugene go to great lengths to try and restore the memories of the girl he loves. Heck I was even hoping there would a flashback sequence of the events from the film or even watching them try to recreate certain events of the movie to help jog Rapunzel’s memories.
Overall, this was one of the FUNNIEST episodes I’ve ever seen, but an important life lesson this episode taught us is that it’s always important to open up about your feelings since it isn’t always healthy to keep them bottled up. Cassandra certainly learned that lesson and after finally talking things out, she and Rapunzel mended their friendship at last.
