‘love is forgiving them when they mess up. it’s helping them remember their keys, their phone, their medication, their love for whatever they’re passionate about. it’s holding them when they cry because of how they got catcalled outside of Walmart when all they wanted was some Advil.

love is looking at someone, just how they are, and finally understanding the definition of the word perfection. it’s staying up later than you want to, because they need you. it’s hearing music whenever they speak. it’s wishing they were with you whenever you are doing anything fun (or anything, really).

love is still being there for them, even after you you break up. still calling them in their birthday; still having the option to call them when your world is crumbling around you. it’s still calling the pets you adopted together ‘our kids.’

love is still loving them no matter what happens.’

• • • • • • and this wraps up my mini poetry series ‘love is.’ i want to say that love comes in so many shapes and sizes; there is not one definition for the word love. we all experience differently, and it’s different every single time you experience it. and if you haven’t yet, or you don’t want to, that’s okay too. love can be platonic! every time of love is wonderful and amazing and unique.
