Hi! Hello! Hey!

I've been going through A Time and have chosen to cope by going back to the specific vibes of 2016 to 2018. That happens to include an incredible resurgence in my love for MCU fanfic, the community around it and all the love that goes into them. I've felt a bit distant from here for a while, but I still see so many of my old friends writing, ones who want to get back into it, and a whole lot of new writers I am dying to meet.

I've floated this idea vaguely on my blog and people seem to be interested so I figured it was worth a shot!

So yeah, welcome to Ari's Old School, Nostalgia Jam, Why-The-Hell-Not MCU Fic Writing Challenge 2024!

My favorite songs of 2023

I am putting together my favorite songs released in 2023. I started off doing a project where I listened to as many new albums as I could (and recording my findings in a spreadsheet), but that project tapered off around June when my move + school year started. But even though I wasn't able to listen to every album that came out, I still came out of 2023 with some of my favorite musical projects of all time. Also as another disclaimer: I am not a professional music writer.

I am also limiting this list to 1 song per album/project.

1. Scaring the Hoes by JPEGMafia and Danny Brown. I wish I could go back and experience again what happened to my brain when I first heard this track so I could properly convey it with text. When I first saw this project was announced, I knew it would take over my life. When I heard this track before the album was released, I knew I would have to form some kind of religion around it. The reason why I'm limiting this list to one track per album is because Scaring the Hoes has 14 tracks so I wouldn't be able to fit them all (other songs I would have given the number 1 spot include Burfict!, Shut Yo Bitch Ass Up/Muddy Waters, God Loves You, and Kingdom Hearts Key). But the title track is the perfect introduction. It's less of a single and more of a thesis statement for the entire project. The production throughout this album is incredible, but STH hits different. The rhythmic, almost menacing handclaps (fun fact: those aren't handclaps--that's the sound my asscheeks make when this song comes on) and the horn sample which I can only describe as Blood Money era Tom Waitsian, it is by far my favorite beat of 2023. Combined with Danny and JPEG's charisma and the way they bounce back and forth, this song is a shot of adrenaline straight to the heart. Also I saw them live and that experience elevated a 10/10 to a 20/10 for me.

2. Prof. Aronnax' Descent into the Vast Oceans by Ahab. I started seriously listening to German nautical funeral doom metal band, Ahab around early 2022 so this was the first new release I got to experience. Even though I loved what I heard previously, nothing could have prepared me for this. The opening track is everything I want from a doom metal song. It starts out with a frantic onslaught of screaming and inhuman growls before mellowing out into a serene instrumental before the mournful vocals kick in. It really feels like the initial shock of your body slamming into the water, then having to slowly drift among the waves as your muscles give out and you're taken deeper into the depths. That's what I like about doom metal: it's music to decay to. This track (and by extension this album) hooked me from a story-telling perspective right away, which shouldn't be a surprise as it was based on Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The story presented in this album intrigued me so much that I had to read the book for myself. Then I read it again. Then I read two different translations. Now I'm working on a visual novel adaptation. I know metrics for album rankings are subjective, so I'm willing to give an album an extra bump if it gets me to read a 19th century novel at least five times in less than two months and learn Python coding. (Other tracks I would have included: the album is at its strongest as a single listening experience, but I especially enjoyed Mobilis in Mobili and Ægri Somnia).

3. What A Man by Debby Friday. This is a track off of Nigerian-Canadian electronic musician Debby Friday's first album Good Luck and holy shit, what a debut. This is such a well-formed project I can't believe it. I was already enjoying the album throughout the first few tracks. It brought me back to listening to 2000s club music and thinking "wow I wish I got invited to parties." But then I got to What A Man and the world screeched to a halt. I think I was posting on my main blog at the time, so anyone unfortunate enough to follow me had a chance to see my incoherent screeching in real time. This track is incredible. Debby's warm and sultry voice, the spacey production, THE ELECTRIC GUITAR? The first time the guitar kicks in, that's just a teaser for what ended up being one of my favorite music moments of the year. The electric guitar feels like an oncoming storm and Debby is standing strong before it, taking on the wind and rain as her voice becomes louder and almost yearning. Then the song builds with Debby yelling to the high heavens as the guitars wail around her before fading back down into the low bass and rhythmic breathing motif found throughout the album. This track is an experience, and the music video is gorgeous too (the picture I chose for the banner is from the video itself) and the fact that it has less than 20K views hurts me. (Other tracks I would have included: I Got It, So Hard To Tell, Let U Down)

4. Bite Back by Algiers (ft. billy woods and Backxwash). Speaking of songs that build... This is the sixth track off of Algiers' album, Shook and by this point I was already feeling pretty good about the release. I was already prepared to put the opening track, Everybody Shatter on my top 20, but when Bite Back kicked in, something changed. Here's a recreation of my initial reaction: "this sounds pretty good, I like the way this intro...is that billy woods??") Just to be transparent: billy woods' involvement would have been enough to give this an automatic top slot for me, but it helps that his verse is fantastic. His flow is slower than the introductory verse, but that only makes his lyrics stand out more. From the opening lines "One hand wash the other, they both wash the face / Centrifugal force and inertia keep everything in its place / Slowly, spinning in space, speeding, lead foot on the brakes" I knew I was in for something special. One thing I really appreciate about this track is the production. billy woods has a very steady flow with an almost menacing quality to it depending on the subject matter of the lyrics, and the beat shifts during his verse to reflect that. It sounds like it could be a billy woods beat, but it doesn't sound like one of his beats was carelessly shoved into an Algiers song. It's like the beat ebbs and flows with the artists involved. The production gets gradually more intense as billy picks up more ferocity in his delivery. A detail I really like is when billy says "claws rattling, delicate as roaches' wings," the percussion on the backing track picks up an almost rattling quality, but it doesn't sound corny or too obvious. Then billy continues, the backing track picking up even more intensity until it feels like each noise is blasting at full power...and then the tension releases and settles down with Algiers frontman, Franklin James Fisher, delivering the second verse. His delivery contrasts wonderfully with billy woods' too, with his faster, almost whispered vocals allowing the track to pick up momentum again after the previous release of tension. This track knows when to breathe and it's fantastic. But it also knows when to take the air from your lungs as Fisher goes all out with the vocals in the hook and third verse, reinstating what an absolute powerhouse vocalist he is. And just when the track is at its peak ferocity, in comes Backxwash with the steel chair! If billy and Fisher were allowing the beat to gradually shift under their performances, Backxwash grabs the song by the throat and makes it do whatever she wants. Her verse then trades off into Fisher delivering the outro, operating at full power in his delivery. This song is so well-crafted and none of the artists feel out of place. (Other tracks I would have included: Everybody Shatter, A Good Man, Irreversible Damage)

5. Billions by Caroline Polachek. As of writing this, I haven't been keeping up with other people's year end lists, but I know this album is going to make everyone else's. So I feel a bit intimidated to talk about it, but I will try. The production on this album is so good my brain can't even comprehend how it was crafted. I've seen it described as "maximalist," but that doesn't fully capture how well this album knows when to pull back and let the tracks breathe. Billions is one of the more sparse tracks compared to some of the others, but that only makes each production decision stand out more. The second time Caroline says "give me the closure," you hear a little musical sting in the background (probably some kind of synth, but at first listen I thought it was an electric guitar) which didn't show up after the first time that lyric was sung. It's that attention to detail and letting the production build on itself that makes this project incredible. And it goes without saying that Caroline is an outstanding vocalist. She sounds like a siren. It's ridiculous. (Other tracks I would have included: Welcome to My Island, I Believe, Hopedrunk Everasking)

6. The Black Seminole by Lil Yachty. Opening track off of Lil Yachty's psychedelic rock album, Let's Start Here, and what an opening track on a fantastic project. It should be clear by this point that I love songs that build, and holy shit does this song build. I first listened to this album while I was on a plane, and this track synced up with my takeoff. So while the plane was lifting off the ground and I was being pressed against my seat, Lil Yachty gave the final line before the electric guitars and the female vocalist kicked in, both wailing with equal ferocity. Top 10 music experiences of the year, but even going back to listen to that same track when I'm not on an airplane delivered the same euphoric experience. (Other tracks I would have included: Drive Me Crazy, Should I B, We Saw the Sun)

7. Xena by Skrillex and Nai Barghouti. I debated whether to put this song or Hydrate on the list, but Xena was the first track that made me fall in love with this album. With vocals by Palestinian singer, Nai Barghouti, Skrillex delivers an absolutely outstanding dubstep track. Like Billions, it's the kind of music production that makes me have to step back and fully appreciate the craft. The song is incredible at building intensity, but he also knows when to pull back to let the tension build again. And Barghouti isn't just a feature--she is the heartbeat of this song. Her voice melds with the production so well, but in a way that sounds like she's commanding it. My absolute favorite part of the song is when she starts singing in her lower register as the production turns to more naturalistic instruments. Sometimes I see electronic producers robbing their singers of their voices for the sake of cohesive production, but that isn't the case here. Nai Barghouti's voice is crisp, unique, and perfect. It's a fantastic melding of producer and vocalist that makes way more sense than it should. (Other tracks I would have included: Hydrate, Rumble, Ratata)

8. Babylon by Bus by billy woods and Kenny Segal. I already talked about billy woods, but he was a feature so this still counts. Everything I already said about billy woods' skills applies here as well, especially now that he has full control over the track. billy's flow sounds both effortless, and that he knows the perfect word to use for each line. And he uses interesting words. "Glistening waterbug on clean counter / Plague mask, gave the place a cursory glower / He ran away, I gave chase but gave up and sat on his gate for hours" I love this series of bars. He is a storyteller. And then, the beat pauses after billy's first verse, with low menacing notes, a clattering of naturalistic metallic percussion, and then the switch up??? Seriously the way the beat ramps up for SkrapKnel's verses takes the song to another level. The way the Curly Castro and PremRock pass the mic back and forth to each other is outstanding. This doesn't feel like a guest verse; this is a fully realized project. The shamelessness is even more apparent when billy takes the mic again for the final verse, but now with more ferocity in his delivery as if he's building off of the energy created by SkrapKnel. This song is masterful. "I take care of these words, Munchausen by proxy / Somehow beat the tox screen / God save the queen, but that train doesn't stop here anymore" (Other tracks I would have included: FaceTime, Year Zero, Soft Landing)

9. Drain You Empty by Cannibal Corpse. I listened to this album right around midterms and I needed it. But this was the song I kept coming back to. For one, it's fun. Obviously: it's Cannibal Corpse. But I love the way the song opens with a full minute of just blasting you before the drums, riffs, and screams really kick in. Good god the drumming on this album is so good. I absolutely love Corpsegrinder's delivery on this track. The way he shifts from bellowing growls to shrieks, the way he speeds up his delivery to match the pace of the drums, it's so good. I'm sorry I don't have a better analysis. It's fun. (Other tracks I would have included: Chaos Horrific, Overlords of Violence, Blood Blind)

10. Crossing Guard by Model/Actriz. This is a song that made me wish I went to gay clubs more. Yes, it's a killer dance song, but what draws me in is how chaotic the production is. It starts out slow and quiet, then bam! The production starts screeching at you in a glorious onslaught of noise, held together with a fantastic bassline. I love the vocalist too. He can be monotone and subtle, but he also knows how to raise his voice to match the ferocity of the production. I listened to this song countless times last year (often while crossing the street and trying not to get hit by cars), and the line "Like Germanotta, Stefani / Pull the weight from under me" will be stuck in my head forever. (Other tracks I would have included: Donkey Show, Amaranth)

★ Hello, I’m Gee and I’m currently looking for new roleplay partners. I’m 28 years old, I reside in Australia, and I’ve been roleplaying in various forms for over a decade now. I’m searching for new partners and plots at the moment so if you are interested in plotting, please feel free to either like this post or send me a direct message.

If you are interested in writing together and you don't already have a guidelines/rules post on your page (which is totally fine as I know that not everyone has a dedicated roleplay page), please send me some information about yourself as a roleplayer as well, so that we can see if we're compatible (e.g. your activity levels, any kinks/limits/triggers, average reply lengths, whether you use celeb fcs or a different type of fc etc.)

Before reaching out, please read the below to make sure that we’re compatible:

♥ 21 + please! Even if we aren’t writing smut, most plots will involve mature themes so please, no minors.

♥ I write exclusively on Discord these days, however use Tumblr for initially finding a partner and making sure we’re compatible before moving things across to Discord.

♥ I’m currently only doing original character roleplaying as opposed to writing within any specific fandoms. I’m flexible in terms of pairings (mxm, mxf, nonbinary pairings), although mxm ships will always have a special place in my heart! I am happy to play any gender but that said, I don’t enjoy being used just to play male characters in mxf ships so please keep that in mind before reaching out.

♥ I’m currently only looking for partners for the wanted plots on my page, however I’m super flexible in terms of plotting out the specific details and making sure that it’s something we’re both passionate about as this definitely isn’t a dictatorship. I particularly love slice of life, angst, and celebrity plots. I enjoy writing smut and mature themes but I love to make sure that each roleplay is also quite plot heavy and that we’re all getting the opportunity to develop our characters! I also love talking ooc, ploting, sharing headcanons and muse posts so that we can build an ooc friendship as well.

♥ I have a face claim directory on my blog so if there’s a particular face claim that really jumps out at you, please let me know! Each of the face claims on that directory have original characters that I've developed and pre-existing bios so some face claims are better suited to particular plots but that said, I am flexible in terms of changing the characteristics of my original characters to better suit plots if needed.

♥ Communication is key! I know that real life can get hectic sometimes. I personally work full-time and study part-time, however do consider myself a relatively active partner and I'm looking for active partners. Whilst I'm not expecting daily replies, I am definitely looking for partners that can manage a few replies per week (and although there is no pressure to match the length of my replies, I do please request a minimum of one paragraph with each reply; otherwise I can struggle to keep my muse). That said, it you aren't feeling a particular plot anymore or if things are happening in your real life that will delay replies, please just flick me a message - I promise that I'm not going to be upset! If I haven't received any in character or ooc for extended periods of time, that does impact my muse and it can come across as a lack of commitment/interest on the other person's part. I reserve the right to leave and/or delete servers if that is the case.

Hi! I saw the posts wondering about how to put together the polls, and as an aspiring data analyst and current PhD student myself, i had some contemplations to share!!

Unfortunately i think the BEST way to go about it would require 64 options, as you would need to account for all the combinations of:

Know Character A (yes/no)

Know Character B (yes/no)

Opinion on Character A (Love/Hate/Both/Indifferent)

Opinion on Character B (Love/Hate/Both/Indifferent)

Which would be a 2×2×4×4 poll.

HOWEVER i had an idea. Accounting for the pollgoer knowing character A or B is pretty much non-negotiable if you want to preserve the quality of the data. So in a 10-option poll, that means we only really have room for two options past "which character are you more familiar with".

HENCE, i propose something similar to the following setup:

Two polls per pair of characters. A round 1A and round 1B if you will.

Round 1A: (for the purpose of determining strength of opinion)

[More familiar with A; Stronger feelings about A]

[More familiar with A; Strong feelings about both]

[More familiar with A; No strong feelings about either]

[More familiar with B; Stronger feelings about B]

[More familiar with B; Strong feelings about both]

[More familiar with B; No strong feelings about either]

[Familiar with A, or equally familiar with A and B; Stronger feelings about B]

[Familiar with B, or equally familiar with A and B; Stronger feelings about A]

[Familiar with both/neither; Strong feelings about both]

[Familiar with both/neither; No strong feelings about either]

.....just barely squeezed that into 10 options. I condensed "Familiar with A, or equally familiar with A and B" and vice versa into one option because i felt that having an opinion on Character B while knowing neither, both, or the opposing character better, was basically the same.

Point being, that poll would tell you who has the strongest feelings surrounding them, since you could take ratios to determine the true percentages of votes from people familiar with the character. I think this could be good for elimination; maybe you could do the bottom 50% or bottom 25% of people that got opinionated votes. Then after that maybe you could have a second set of polls that were individual to the characters that weren't eliminated, like a qualifier, again dropping out the lowest X% of characters that had too many indifferent votes.

Sorry for the ramble i just. I love data and polls and i majored in math and . Yeah. I hope literally any of this is helpful or sparks some ideas?? I just thought it would be neat to have each round have a matchup half and an individual half, honestly, because i love both of those ideas. It does sound like twice the work though. Whatever you decide, i am definitely looking forward to it!! Best of luck!!!

Holy shit this is awesome. In a perfect world I would absolutely love to do a 64 option matchup tourney. But unfortunately I think this ideal solution shows how a matchup-style tournament with a maximum of 10 options will be inherently biased (in addition to causing scroll fatigue, which is something I, as a poll fanatic and accurate data lover, forgot that most people WILL stop reading past the first few answers if every poll is super long like my and your proposals. Thank you to all my followers who pointed this out- working in this field can make me lose sight of that lol).

So in that sense, thank you for helping me come to the conclusion that the best way to do this IS to have individual polls! Maybe in the future I’ll set up several hundred google forms and link to that for voting, so it’s not limited by tumblr polls. And that way people could even select multiple options! I would seriously consider running that if after this tournament people are still interested in a second one that’s matchup style instead. But for now individual polls seems the most fair way to go about it that complies with tumblr’s limited poll options!

Oh,

hello there!

You may have noticed that it's been 6 years since the blog's last update, and 8 since the last time it was somewhat active. That's crazy! If you're still here on Tumblr dot com, congratulations--so am I.

"Well shadsy," you may be asking, "why are you here at the bottom of your blogs checking on this old thing?"

Sometimes, you like to go down memory lane. And in going down memory lane, you read your last housekeeping post about all those dead Dropbox links, and say "hm, I really should clean those up." Back in the day, you only could upload one audio post per day, like some kind of animal. The 10 MB limit was still in place, which is why a lot of the later SATBK songs got offloaded there.

"Okay, easy!" I say to myself, "I'll just do what I should've done in the first place, and convert down some of those bulky audio posts, and just reupload them! Nothing to it."

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Mostly due to Tumblr being the way it is and not letting my new uploads stick. So, here's what we're going to do:

I'll be trawling through some of the bygone posts, uploading embedded audio, quoting my commentary, and then linking back to the original. It'll be like old times! Kinda! (I won't be updating the follower milestone jingles...sorry)

14 tracks, Wednesdays and Saturdays over the next few weeks. Who knows, maybe I'll throw in a few tracks that were abandoned in the drafts or my request box. Maybe I'll even take some requests from games that have come out since the blog has been dormant (Forces, Mania, Frontiers)!

But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. This is getting long winded as it is. Let me queue up some of the housekeeping, and we'll go from there.

Hello my lovely readers! I’m reopening my matchups for Valentines Day! Submissions will be accepted until February 14th.

I’ll be having 2 different matchup types.

Today has been. A fucking roller coaster. As per my post this morning I know I told y’all I woke up at a 9 that spiraled into a ten but lemme tell you what overall happened.

Got back to sleep around 3 hours after I got the nerves to calm down

Woke up four hours later at a 9 that only just barely didn’t spiral

I didn’t even use the bathroom I just pulled on a bra and shorts and a dress and grabbed the bag I made up that morning and left the house for urgent care. No ambulance for UC but it’s literally just around the corner

Only go there instead of ER cause sis reminded me my GP JUST swapped over there so it’s time to get some real help from someone who doesn’t think I’m drug seeking even if I’m at a pain level so high I’m considering S-wording myself

She tells me that even if I have all the symptoms but dryness from sjögrens, a flare up isn’t supposed to be a 9-10 so she thinks it’s an infection and tells me to get antibiotics and oxycodone

Lol as much as I was blinking to stay awake in the store and also I accidentally texted a no-reply number but idk if someone on the other end saw that lmao, it’s not as powerful as they say

So the pain is THAT bad

Two hours later the pain was that bad again

I tried to nap I took pain killers I took another oxy two hours early I played a video game

I am considering if I want the next oxy now that I am past the time limit idk it’s not that bad probably because I’ve been rubbing numbing gels all over my face for hours

Anbesol was really perfect for helping numb my mouth enough to eat something with actual texture to it so that was nice

Idk man it’s been a long ass day and all this shit and it’s still not enough

Istg if this one isn’t gotten rid of with antibiotics I’m gonna scream. Doc seems convinced it’s an infection rollover and I trust her but the ER doctor (while they are always very nice and helpful to me, they’re only really useful for shit like emergency imaging which the radiation tech loves cause he gets overtime lmao) was like. Yeah we could give you a different antibiotic… and made it seem like it was cautionary and not the real solution but idk wake up at a 9 twice in one and maybe it’s an infection

Srsly I got a mental health appointment for the 21st but I’m starting to think if I wake up at a 9 more than twice in one day tomorrow I’m not gonna make it to the 21st

My only saving grace is that I didn’t get sugar at the store. This may seem odd but I am allergic to cane sugar, but when I’m stressed I don’t binge but I do reach for the sugar and end up with mouth ulcers so that’s not like. Nice. Proud of my for avoiding sugar and alcohol in a single trip. Of course, I am also on oxy so idk I don’t wanna DIE

Btw nicest pharmacist ever, he said that since I had a drug I was also picking up today that wouldn’t be safe with oxy, the insurance would not cover the oxy, so he swapped it from 25$ capsules to 8$ tablets and I was okay with paying full for only 8$ lmao he’s amazing.

Um. Love y’all. Glad I went to ER a few days ago and glad sis reminded me they ain’t shit and to go to doc UC today.

My Kitchen Essentials

One of my favorite things about having my own apartment has been having my own kitchen. Furnishing the rest of my apartment was an expensive and sort of stressful process. The kitchen however has been a lot more fun because I inherently find kitchen gear more interesting and had enough of the basics to get started without breaking the bank. Because I keep my meals simple and only work with ingredients that I enjoy, I genuinely love cooking for myself. I shared my peanut butter overnight oats and tofu rice bowl recipes in a post about Sunday meal prep a few months ago, but am hoping to share more of my go-to meals in a proper recipe format.

The core essentials that I brought from home include a 10-inch cast iron pan, a 1.5-quart stainless steel pot, a small wooden cutting board, a pairing knife, a chef's knife, and a pair of scissors. I also brought a basic set of dry measuring cups (¼ cup, ⅓ cup, and ½ cup) and measuring spoons. While I haven’t done any baking here and don’t follow recipes when cooking for myself, the measuring cups have been really useful for cooking various grains. A few items that I brought but haven’t used include a lemon juicer, a garlic press, and a silicone pastry brush. As for non-cooking kitchen basics, I was fortunate enough to be handed down a set of both dishes and silverware and to be gifted a nice wooden salad bowl. I also brought a utensil crock, a mini teapot, two mugs, two glasses, and a few food storage containers from home.

To further round out my setup, I picked up a sieve (which I use for rinsing rice), half and quarter-rimmed sheet pans (which I currently primarily use for baking tofu and green beans for my rice bowls), a wooden spatula, and a potholder. I love cheese, so a personal essential of mine is a grater. I use it to grate cheddar for my cheesy polenta (which I serve with chicken apple sausage and peppers), pecorino romano for carbonara, and parmesan for Caesar salads among other things. I may eventually add a box grater to my setup, but have thus far been happy with this paddle-style grater that I picked up on my first full day in Washington State. Another item that I bought immediately, but have not personally used is a pair of kitchen tongs. (They did come in handy though for a work picnic). While I don’t regret the purchase per se, this just goes to show the true value of starting with the bare minimum and slowly building out your setup as you discover the limitations through experience. Other kitchen essentials that I picked up but that aren’t directly used for cooking include an airtight container for my rice, a glass food storage container for my lunch, a dish drying mat, sponges, and dish soap.

It’s not essential, but one fun recent addition to my kitchen is the rice cooker I got for Christmas. The resulting rice is notably better than my stovetop rice, but I will note that it doesn’t exactly save time as the rice is supposed to soak for 30 minutes, cook for 15, and steam for another 15. Another important note is that the measuring cup that comes with the cooker is only about ¾ cup. Thus, when I made my first batch of rice I was a bit thrown off and only had enough rice for three rice bowls instead of my usual four. I made a double batch the second time around which allowed me to create five rice bowls instead.

While I’m not set up for baking or cooking for a crowd, I truly do have all that I need to cook for myself. Nonetheless, I’m excited to continue building out my kitchen! A few items that I’m considering adding at some point in the future include a kitchen scale, a larger pot, a mixing bowl, a meat thermometer, an immersion blender, and an ice cream maker. We’ll see though because I’m not yet convinced that these items would get regular enough use to justify the cost and space they’d take up in my small kitchen.

there is such a lingering sadness and it's been there for years, almost a decade by now, and i know it's not really anyone's fault because that's too much a burden to place on anyone.

but there was something profound that i came across the other day. of course no-one owes us interaction. but the act of creating something, and then taking that something and placing it for an audience to see and interact with, be it on social media or elsewhere, is us reaching out to others, to wanting a connection, to opening up and being vulnerable. we're just being human in our need to connect over something that is meaningful to us.

but then that hand that reaches out to the world is slapped away.

not once, not twice.

and i see it in myself how it impacts me harder and harder year after year after year. i just sit here and marvel at my younger self, how i could churn out drawing after drawing, severaly drawings per week even, and now it's not even enough to warrant the annual "art summary" post.

i find less joy in the things that i do - not because i hate drawing, i actually still like it and it's quite relaxing actually - but it stopped being something that would create a deeper connection between me and the world. if it were just about the practice of drawing, it wouldn't matter if i just took a colouring book from the store and coloured in those pages. art as self-expression has become mute and unnecessary since they void won't yell back. the prettiest pictures, after all, still live inside my head.

sometimes i wonder what kind of value my presence even has in the art sphere. do people even feel anything when they see my art? does it inspire them? or is it just too milquetoast, too average, to even prompt a reaction? do people even want my advice, is my knowledge even worth something? or do i just provide everything unprompted anyway so no-one even has to ask? do people even care about my ideas? are they curious about the characters i love so dearly, do they want any explanations and lore around them to put a context to my art? why do i even put effort into anything? is there anyone who even thinks of me as a human, who wonders how my week has been, who are worried that i hadn't posted in a while? or am i just intimidating, scary, have i ceased to be just a person, or have i ever even been approchable?

it becomes quite lonely.

and sometimes it's hard to believe mutuals who come out of the woodworks at times like this and claim that they "love" my work, they find it so "pretty" and "value my friendship" and that "it's normal to feel like that", but those things only matter for when i'm sitting here and yelling in text post form and feel like the world has left me and try to make sense to it, because i am just like that. i try to understand, i really do, but it's been 10 years and i'm slowly at my limit. this concern people show whenever i burst out into tears never translates to little interactions when i'm feeling fine, when i'm not on the verge of crying. if there's no drama, i'm insignificant, invisible.

maybe, yes, i'm an attention whore.

maybe "pretty" has lost meaning to me. it feels so hollow, empty. easier to dismiss, with no meaning.

i'm tired.

I will not put a limit on the themes you want to explore in roleplays.** While I do not condone any kind of bigotry or -phobia, excluding particular themes from writing/roleplaying is just hecking silly imo

I am a slow responder. If you’re looking for a quick back-and-forth***, I am not the person for you. While I try to respond in the same time-frame as my partner, life happens. If I feel pressure to respond quicker than I am, I often mentally shut down from (probably) the ADHD, become avoidant, and distant.

I Like To Roleplay...

Angst, romance, smut, action, drama, etc. I don’t limit roleplays to one genre -- if we’re doing a romance roleplay, I’m gonna want the angst, the smut, and the drama

I’ve roleplayed in all kinds of settings -- underwater treasure hunters, spies, pirates & navy, teacher and librarian’s ill-fated sexual encounter (and everything that follows), lawyers, criminal masterminds, post-apocalypse/zombies, spacepunk/cyberpunk, magic realism, android/human romance, supernatural creatures, etc. I say this to demonstrate that I am flexible to most settings/plots -- it’s the characters and their relationship to one another (romantic, platonic, antagonistic) that really drive my interests above anything else.

Basically, almost anything that has a strong character narrative and/or plot.

I don’t love...

Fluff for fluff’s sake, slice of life (without some sort of driving drama)

Furry RPs (I love and support y’all, it’s just not my personal jam)

My Limits...

I’m not super comfortable with sexualised scat, vomit, or wound/blood play. Pretty much anything else is on the table.

TL;DR: A lot has happened in 2022, including but not limited to, two instances of covid, mental and physical health issues outside of covid, bed bugs, homelessness, fursuit damages, really the list could go on. More Below,

There’s not an excessive amount of content I need to push towards you, since nothing recently has happened. Luckily, I believe, the emergencies have stopped. However I’m still struggling to recover from them, so please send over an ask or a dm if you’re curious how to help. In the last year I was completely overthrown by a bedbug infestation in my previous home. All of my work is done from my bedroom, so this was majorly concerning. Work with my fursuits was done with high diligence and concern for quality. Several attempts at killing the bugs was made, but we were evicted before the issue could've been controlled. All of our beds have been replaced since then and not a single bug has been seen since we moved into our new trailer in july. There was a month between eviction and moving into our new place where I was effectively homeless. All of the fursuits were exterminated via high heats while we were moving, as bedbugs cannot survive temperatures above 113 degrees. Not a single carcass has been found whilst unpacking the suits. Unfortunately higher damages has applied to the suits, as seen in a twitter thread above. My highest condolences and efforts have been given to this issue. Around the same time as the bed-bugs started to get worse i had come down with covid-19, and received a refund that pushed me $200 back in funds. I have thankfully barely just recovered from this with help of a few kind donations for supply money. The only supplies i believe i am missing for commissions is now just foam, and a set of clippers. Fursuit and illustration commissions remain my main set of income as per now, so I can’t see myself able to acquire these in the near future. However I think later may be possible. I recently got covid again in late july and post recovery had been focusing on work for Vast Error Volume 5 (://music.deconreconstruction.com/) Since then I’ve been mostly focusing on my mental health and recovery from a very traumatic incident i will not touch on here. My current plan of action is this; I need to organize my commissions and their information, anything that i have received since june 2021 needs to be allocated into an easy to find location. (Trello) As I’m not even quite sure how many commissions i have, i can estimate around 22, this is a huge issue for my productivity. (Around 10 are fursuit commissions, and 12 are illustrations) I also need to see how many commissioners I am still able to contact, as I believe I have lost contact for at least one commission, I need to make sure it is just that one. I need to sign up for social security disability so I can play catch up with the very low prices i received most of my commissions with, lost shipping money thanks to refunds and health/living complications, and support myself and my service dog without having to take as many in the future. I will be speedrunning (as much as possible) all of my illustration commissions, after i organize everything, finishing non-fursuit sewing commissions, and then starting to pick down my fursuit commissions in order that I have received them. If your commission is newer it will take longer to get to. I plan on finishing all of these commissions by july 2023. I will be opening up 5 slots then to quickly acquire funds for moving to Seattle in 2024, and the commissions then will be finished once I get there and have housing. I am not sure when I will open fursuit commissions after that, as I intend on attending art school in 2024. I may still do 5 yearly, as that seems like it will work for me. I will be beginning my medical transition around fall of 2023, and taking the holidays off so I can spend some final time with my family, so this can probably get in the way of commissions. There’s no way of saying for sure right now. This is very much so subject to change as time goes on. I cannot promise anything other than it will all be finished in due time, just know that my highest efforts (considering my disabilities) are being applied to the situation at hand. My recent autism "I need to categorize and list everything" obsession is foods and flavors, but for just my taste and the cheapest/easiest way for me to have it whenever. Long diary post.

Like I need to list out every food I ever want, to remind myself what are all the things I like to eat and what are my options, especially trying to figure out what flavor profiles/foods are most DISTINCT from each other and if there are versions of similar stuff where I would never choose one if another was an option (eg. teriyaki chicken vs braised pork), I've basically come up with a list of things that could pass as a fairly varied restaurant menu, or a buffet catered personally to me. Stuff thats good in the cupboard or freezer indefinitely I already try to keep stocked for myself for any time I feel like which is basically an awesome munchies spread of chips, candy, packaged pastries, and ice cream, but I wish getting cheeses or fun breads didnt have such a time limit or it was easier to get/make just a couple servings of them so I dont have to plan HAVING to finish whole packs/batches of stuff before it gets moldy. But I honestly think if I had the option to star trek materialize any food any time for free I might never really stray from a list like this because while I'm not really afraid of trying new foods, when I do I'm doing it in the pursuit of finding out every possible food I want in my Repertoire. When I go to a new restaurant I usually try to figure out what is the item on the menu that has either the highest combination of flavors I either already know I like or that I can't "INTJ calculate in my head".

I wish I could try more flavors of things to compare 1 on 1 the best version of different things (love adam ragusea or babish vids where they actually do the experiment of if a regular person can appreciate differences in techniques every online recipe just Says is the best way) or even just to Know more things without having to commit to like 10$ blocks of 20 different cheeses I've never had before or even the continuous funky packaged snacks with flavors of the month that might just be made to trick people into trying 1 time and not to actually be good, we need cheese tasting parties but for every kind of food and snack you may not have otherwise organically encountered without having to spend 6$ per package of a ton of things you might not finish. I feel like maybe there was a reddit guy era of having hot sauce tastings? I feel like bbq sauces also have so much variety that you could do something like that, I'm a big sauce fan.

For most of these things I think I have pretty basic and cheap taste and don't have the palette to care about differences of fancier cooking techniques or subtle flavor differences or the best mouthfeel combination of chocolate and caramel. And to some degree theres only so many foods that bring entirely distinct and strong flavor components out there, especially since the flavors you're predisposed to liking are somewhat limited by whats familiar to you, but sometimes I'm like what if there are flavors out there I could never "INTJ calculate in my head" and have no idea I need to try in the right context to know this (like how guys will specialize in how to mentally approach tasting what kind of coffee you like). Or worse what if theres something I would love so much but could never find locally, I am so use to abundance and having the same access to things all year that this would be like a faerie food curse to me (not really, tbh stuff being even just a little more expensive than things that are easy to make and stock usually deters me anyway but "I have the OPTION to spend 30$ to have. idk lobster in the middle of Texas even though I'm not willing to spend that much hardly ever" feels different than "what if my potential favorite fruit in the whole world is not sold in any grocery store in america").

Anyway you know that post about what chicago guys put on their hot dogs. I feel like out of just my list of very flavorful INGREDIENCE I get excited when its on any thing at a restaurant, I could mix together a bunch of vegetables and condiments that maybe could be called a "salad" that I can just put on any combination of carbs or protein like "you know what every single sandwich is missing? 3 types of cheese, 4 types of pickled vegetables, sun dried tomatoes, avocado, green onions…." Like I want to see just how many strong flavors I can put together while still actually tasting most of them individually. If they overpower each other then I will not know where to cut back because maybe I just want to know that everything I like is all together and I am having it.

work rant

bit overwhelmed at the moment so forgive me if I’m overdramatics but I want to get another job and I’m so upset about it. I love the hours and personal flexibility this job gives me but it’s also exacerbating my low back/hip pain…. I will recover just in time for my next work day. Every time I feel better, I have to work again and it hurts again and I don’t want to maintain this cycle. I’m taking a break at work to write this post because I can’t power through the last thirty-odd minutes of sweeping, vacuuming and mopping. And I don’t know what to do.

My last job was so exhausting. I burned out so hard working 10+ hours a day. And I’m really good at being a secretary but I’m scared to go back to that kind of job because of how chaotic and overloaded I was. I don’t want to go to the hospital because of how toxic the local hospital environments are (both bc of experiences elsewhere and also per a friend who worked there).

And job searching has almost never worked for me. The only job I truly got by myself was a pizza place in town. Everywhere else hired me bc I knew someone. Not that I’m complaining! I’m grateful that happened and I’ve had these opportunities and that I got hired and paid! But I’m so limited. I don’t know if I was already like this and didn’t know it or if this is part of some fallout but I don’t think I can show up to a job and permanently be doing 3+ roles like everywhere is expecting. I can’t do that anymore. I don’t think I can even work in a grocery store on account of how overstimulated I get in a short visit. Are my autistic symptoms worsening or am I just becoming more aware of them? I haven’t had to mask for work since last April, and while that’s fantastic, I’m not sure what would happen if I got thrust back into it.

I am living paycheck to paycheck and I’m essentially getting paid $20/hour for a 25-hour work week (untaxed). That’s a great rate. I won’t get that anywhere else. But I don’t think I can work more than that. I’m not even working that much as it is; I clean efficiently enough and I don’t have to be there for the contracted amount of hours. It’s great. But I am hurting so much right now and I’ve been hurting and I don’t want to be stuck like this. If I got a 25-hour week anywhere else it’d be for ~$15 (if I’m lucky) and I can’t afford that. But I can’t afford full-time, either. I hate it. I’m not meant for this. I can’t do this. I can’t do this.

TL;DR: thought about getting a new job but idek what I can do due to both autistic symptoms and physical pain-related limitations.
