Eric Cartman
You gave birth to your son Ethan a month ago and it honestly has been amazing once you got home. Eric has been waking up with the baby and letting you sleep. You wake up one morning and see Eric wasn't in bed. You get up and walk to the nursery seeing Eric sleeping on a chair with Ethan on his shoulder also sleeping peacefully. You smile and walk over gently picking up Ethan making sure not to wake him.
Eric woke up immediately once Ethan was off his shoulder. He looked on the floor worried Ethan had fallen but when he looked up he smiled and let out a quiet sigh.
"Thank god." He says slowly getting up.
"Good morning baby." You say giving him a small peck on the lips.
"Good morning how'd you sleep? Everything ok do you need anything?" He asked.
"Yeah and baby you shouldn't sleep with the baby on you like that he could have fallen." You say putting Ethan back in the crib.
"I know sweetie but I was tired and singing to him I put myself to sleep." He says with a small laugh and hugs you from behind.
He lets out a loud sigh that wakes the baby up. He squirms around trying to flip on his stomach. He gets frustrated with his hands inside his onesie and starts crying.
Before you can swoop in Eric unzips his onesie getting his small hands out. He coos and starts grabbing onto anything he can.
"What if he pulls his hair?" You ask
"That's something you did isn't it?" He asked laughing at you.
"It happens." You say hitting his shoulder gently.
"Mmhmm." He says hugging you again.
"You know I never knew you'd be such a good dad. You were kind of an ass when you were younger." You said.
"Oh trust me I didn't either but after you had him I just never felt anything like it before. He's the best thing to ever happen to me, and you gave me him making you just as amazing." He said kissing your cheek. "I just want to be by his side as much as I can before I have to go back to work tomorrow."
"Trust me I'm not complaining." You say leaning in about to kiss him until the baby starts crying.
You look over and see the baby pulling his own hair crying loudly from pain. You look over at Eric giving him an 'I told you so look' and he sighs in defeat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stan Marsh
You woke up to the baby crying and as you quickly got up and rushed to the nursery you see Stan already there trying his best to soothe the baby which was not going over well.
"Shhh don't worry daddy's here daddy's here." He says gently rocking her as she cried loudly.
You walk over and put your hand on his shoulder and take the baby from him. She calms down and eventually starts cooing.
"Why am I so bad at this?" Stan says in a frustrated tone. "I've tried everything I can and I can't stop her from crying."
"Oh, baby. You're a good dad it's just hard sometimes." You say gently kissing his cheek.
"You are. Why can't I calm her down? I'm just like my dad." He says putting his face in his hands.
"Oh honey, you're nothing like Randy. You're trying. You just need more practice." You say handing him back the baby. "You're an amazing father and an amazing husband. You just need some more confidence, love."
He takes her hesitantly and holds her. "H-hey sunshine."
She coos and grabbed his cheek pulling it as she laughed. He smiles and raises her up smiling brightly up at her as she pulls on his cheek.
"See? You're a great dad." You say pulling his other cheek and making the baby laugh more.
He gets excited as she laughs. He sticks his tongue out making her laugh more and more.
"I think Sarah likes you." You say kissing his cheek as Sarah then bends down a bit and kisses his nose.
You gasp and Stan laughs. "She kissed me! That's the first time she's done that!"
His yelling startles the baby and she starts to cry again. You let out a defeated sigh and smile.
"Shh, I'm sorry I'm sorry." He says trying to soothe her once again.

Kyle Brovloski
You watch Kyle sitting with the twins playing with large building bricks. You smile and plate the food on the table.
"Come on lunch is ready." You say picking up one of the girls.
"Thank god I was running out of bricks to make more dinosaurs for them," Kyle says picking up your other daughter.
You set down Kate in her highchair and put down a potato pancake in front of her. Kyle puts Kaylee into the highchair and does the same.
"OK, we are all set," Kyle says kissing the tops of both their heads.
You sit down next to Kate watching closely as she eats. Kyle mimics what you do smiling brightly.
"You know you don't always have to copy what I do." You say with a laugh.
"Well you know what you're doing I don't." He says keeping his eyes on Kaylee.
"Honey you need to trust your instincts more." You say. "I know you're an amazing dad."
"Yeah but you're a better mom." He says watching Kate finish her food.
"She's a hungry little bunny isn't she?" You say with a laugh as Kate keeps eating and Kaylee tries to reach for Kate's food.
"No no no baby," Kyle says taking Kate out of her seat and bouncing her on his leg making her laugh.
Kate messes around with the last bit of food she has and throws it around. You pull her out of her chair and kiss her head softly. You look up watching Kyle smile softly at the two girls.
"I can't believe you made two perfect girls." He says.
"You helped a little don't worry." You say with a laugh.
"Don't they just make you want five more?" He asks with a laugh bouncing Kaylee.
"If you're the one carrying them for 9 months." You say raising your brow.
"Hmm come on just look how perfect they are." He says raising Kaylee up and smiling up at her.
Suddenly Kaylee throws up on Kyle making Kate laugh.
"You were saying?"

She yelled over to Brian as she walked out the door, “Awesome work last week on the proposal! You really have a great chance of that going through.”
“That’s what I’m hoping for,” he yelled back.
She started digging through her purse, ‘Where are my keys? I’ve got to go!”
Her phone started to ring. She looked at it, “Are you kidding me?! I just left.”
‘Hey, Jess, I really need an update on the contract with B.F.C.,” exclaimed her boss as she answered the phone.
Jess responded, “I know. I know. I’ll get it to you tonight. I promise.”
“You better. We’ve got a lot riding on this contract and can’t have a recurrence of what happened last month.”
“I know, I promise.”
Jess went back to digging through her purse. “Where are my keys?!” As she was fumbling, she remembered right where she left them. “Are you kidding me?”
She turned back around to head back into the office, and her phone rang. She looked at it and her heart sank. “Hey sweetie, I’m so sorry! You’re waiting on me, aren’t you? I totally forgot you got out of school early today. I will be on my way as soon as I grab my keys.”
“It’s okay, Mom. I know you’re busy.”
“I’m coming, Ethan. I’m so sorry!”
As she hung up the phone, her brisk walk turned into a jog. She ran down the hallway to her office, opened the door, moved a stack of papers, and there were her keys. Right where she left them when she arrived at the office at quarter to five this morning. She grabbed them frantically and as she turned to leave, her hand brushed up against another stack of papers, sending them flying into the air and scattering onto the floor. “Ugh!”, cried Jess as she slammed her office door shut behind her.
She resumed her jog back down the hallway, almost passing right by Jan, the receptionist. “Oh, Jan, can you please tell John that I have to reschedule? Tell him to name a time tomorrow and I will make it happen. And tell him that I’ll take off another 5% for his inconvenience. Thank you, Jan!”
With her keys in hand now, she ran back to her car, threw her purse in the back seat, and took off through the parking lot. As she turned onto the winding, one-lane road to Ethan’s school, she saw a parade of dump trucks, hauling loads of gravel. “Are you kidding me right now?!”
As she caught up to the line of dump trucks making their way around the bends, a pebble came flying out of the bed of the truck in front of her, and pop it went against her windshield. “Seriously?!” yelled Jess. “What is going on with today?! God, I thought I prayed for you to help me know your peace better today. Not add chaos to my day!”
As she pulled into Ethan’s school, she spotted him sitting under the side entry canopy. As she pulled up, he lifted his head from his sprawled-out position on the bench. She noticed the relief on his face as she put the car in park. He gave a slight smile and a glance of eye contact. As his eyes shifted to the right, Jess noticed his face start to change from relief to worry.
He opened the door, and Jess asked, “What’s wrong honey? I’m so sorry I’m late.”
“Did you know your tire is almost flat?” asked Ethan.
“What?” she exclaimed as she jumped out of her seat to go take a look.
Jess let out a big sigh, then pulled out her phone. “Hi, yes, I need help changing a flat tire. I don’t have a jack in my car, but I do have a spare tire.”
A few minutes later Jess slowly crawled back into the car. “I’m sorry, Ethan. I know you have been stuck here for hours and now you have to stay even longer. It might take a while for help to get here. I’ll get you home as soon as I can.”
“It’s alright, Mom. I like when we get to spend time together and we aren’t in a hurry. It’s peaceful.”

Sunday Mornings (Ethan x f!MC)
Tumblr media
Book: Open Heart
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x Natalie Cusack
Special Appearance: The Ramsack Kids
Word count: 1945
Summary: Nat and Ethan enjoy their Sunday mornings. Told over several years.
Rating: T (All the fluff)
Author’s Note: Literally wrote this in the span of an hour and it’s currently 1am here so apologies in advance for any mistakes. Enjoy!
Sundays were for them.
Every Sunday, Nat and Ethan had the day off from the hospital, something Ethan had negotiated with Naveen and the Board early into their relationship. And, as a result, every Sunday was theirs for the taking. If they wanted to be lazy, they would be lazy. If they wanted to run errands and prepare for the week, then that’s what they would do. If they wanted to turn off their phones and focus only on each other, then that’s what they would do too. Regardless of their plans, their Sundays were always sure to be full of one thing: each other.
On a particular rainy Sunday morning, Nat woke to the sound of thunder rumbling outside her window. She groaned in protest at the sound and snuggled deeper into the mattress, burying herself beneath the covers. Within moments, she felt a strong pair of arms snake around her body and hold her tightly, the feel of Ethan’s bare chest against her back, as they breathed in sync with one another.
“Mm, good morning,” Ethan muttered into Nat’s ear.
She groaned in response. “No.”
Ethan chuckled. “No to me or to the morning?”
“To the morning,” she mumbled, her eyes still closed. “Too early.”
Ethan glanced at the clock on his bedside table, noting it was rather early for a Sunday; 7:15 to be exact. He turned back to Nat and pulled her closer in his embrace, placing a soft kiss behind her ear. “I love you,” he said, quietly.
“Mm, love you too,” she replied. Her eyes were still closed and her voice was still sleep laden. He smiled and placed another kiss on her shoulder, laying his head back on the pillow and intending to fall back asleep, only to feel Nat shift in his arms until she was facing him. She began to gently run her fingers up and down the bridge of his nose and he opened his eyes to find her blue-green ones staring back at him. “Hi,” she whispered.
“Hi.”
“Let’s stay in today,” she suggested. She snuggled closer to him as she spoke, their noses almost touching.
“Mm, didn’t you want to go grocery shopping?” he asked.
She shook her head. “We can have them delivered. Today, I just want you and me. And Jenner.” The aforementioned pup perked his head up at his name, his tail gently wagging.
Ethan smiled. “Okay; you, me, and Jenner then. Anything in particular you want to do?”
“Mhm, this.” Cupping the back of his head with her hand, she kissed him firmly. He melted into the kiss instantly, his hands gripping her hips as he pulled her impossibly closer. But just as the kiss was growing in intensity, Nat pulled back and bit her lip. “I just realized, I have morning breath,” she giggled. “I’ll be right back.”
She moved to make her way out of the bed but Ethan held her down tightly, readjusting the two of them so he was laying on top of her. “Oh no, you don’t.”
Nat fell back onto the mattress and laughed. “E, I’m just going to brush my teeth. I’ll be right back.”
“Nope, don’t care,” he said, peppering kisses along her neck and jaw. “I’ll kiss you with any kind of breath. Morning breath, coffee breath, garlic breath; I don’t care. I want to kiss you always.” He kissed her lips softly to emphasize his point and Natalie smiled when he pulled away.
“That’s quite a declaration, Dr. Ramsey. Are you sure you want to stick with it?” she teased.
He grinned and kissed her more firmly this time, eliciting a soft moan from Nat. “Always,” he repeated, when he broke the kiss. Natalie returned his smile and kissed him again, this one full of love and passion. Soon, their kisses led to roaming hands, stripped clothing, and moans of pleasure filling up the room. On this particular Sunday, they never left the bedroom.

Two Years Later
Ethan was the first to wake, the sounds of crying filling his ears. Quickly getting out of bed, he made his way to the nursery, finding baby Noah wriggling around in his crib, crying for his parents. Ethan smiled at his son and gently picked him up, the crying stopping almost instantly. “Good morning, Noah,” Ethan whispered quietly, looking into the bright blue eyes of his son. “There’s no need to cry, Daddy’s here. I’ve got you.”
Taking his son to the changing table and giving Noah a clean diaper, Ethan made his way to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle from the fridge before returning to the bedroom. Settling Noah comfortably in his arms, he gave Noah the bottle and watched as his tiny hands grabbed for the container. Ethan smiled at the sight.
Halfway through his son’s feeding, Natalie began to stir next to him. Opening her eyes, she smiled at the sight of Ethan and Noah in front of her. “Good morning.”
“Good morning, my love,” Ethan replied, smiling at her. “Happy Sunday.”
“Mm, happy Sunday, indeed.” Natalie stretched her arms above her head before sitting up to watch her feeding son. “How’s our little Bear this morning?”
“Just fine,” Ethan said, proudly. Nat gently ran her hand over Noah’s curly hair and smiled. When Noah finished, Ethan transferred the baby into Nat’s arms for a burping while Ethan got up to make them some coffee. When he returned, two steaming mugs in hand, his heart swelled at the sight of Nat gently rocking Noah in her arms, humming a quiet tune to the small boy. Noah’s bright blue eyes stared back at his mother in awe, as if he were amazed by what he was hearing. Ethan couldn’t blame him; Nat was quite the amazing woman.
He entered the room further and placed the coffee mug on Nat’s nightstand before sitting back in his own place in the bed. “Thanks,” she said, smiling at Ethan.
He returned her smile and placed a chaste kiss against her lips. “You’re welcome, my love. So, what’s on the agenda today?”
Nat thought for a moment. “Brunch with your dad, we need to get some more baby-proofing stuff for the apartment, and… oh, didn’t you want to hit up that new bookstore?”
“If we have time, yes,” Ethan confirmed.
“We’ll make time,” Nat said, confidently. “I hear their children’s section is really extensive.”
“More books? Nat, he’s already got a shelf full,” Ethan replied, fighting the smile that was growing on his lips.
Nat shook her head, a familiar mischievous look in her eyes. “You can never have too many books, baby. Besides, I want him to be well-read! And, studies show that reading to babies can help them develop their language skills.”
Ethan chuckled. “I should’ve known not to question you on this. But you know we’re going to need another bookshelf at this rate.”
Nat shrugged and smirked. “You say that like it’s a bad thing!” Ethan simply laughed in response.

Ten Years Later
Little Lydia was the first to wake in the Ramsey household, early one Sunday morning. It was a quiet, snowy morning in December; the Christmas holiday was right around the corner and she’d been dying to know what Santa would be bringing this year. She’d planned on asking him for the new toy doctor set that she’d seen on TV; she really hoped she’d get it. She’d been extra good this year too! If only Christmas wasn’t so far away.
She tiptoed out of her room and glanced down the hallway, only silence and a slight chill greeting her. She shivered and turned to her left, making her way down to her parent’s room. She cracked open the door slightly to find her parents fast asleep, Jenner sleeping on the floor next to her mother’s side of the bed. The only creature in the room that was awake was Louis, their calico cat, who was watching her with mild interest from his perch on the window sill.
Quietly, Lydia entered the room and made her way to her mother’s side of the bed. Patting her arm gently, she waited as Natalie opened her eyes, sleepily. When she spotted her youngest daughter, Nat perked up slightly. “Hi baby,” she said, quietly.
“Hi Mama,” little Lydia greeted. “Can I sleep with you?”
“Of course, sweetie,” Natalie said. Scooting further into the middle of the bed, she lifted the covers for little Lydia to crawl under, tucking her youngest into her embrace tightly as they snuggled together back into bed. As the two of them settled back into bed and began to fall back asleep, Natalie felt a strong arm wrap around her, stopping when it felt an extra body in the bed. She fought back her smile as she felt Ethan lift his head up from the pillow.
“Why are there two of you?” he asked, groggily.
Nat giggled and turned her head to her husband. “You do know we have three kids, right?”
“Oh, is that who they are? I thought they were just tiny roommates who don’t help pay the mortgage.”
Nat rolled her eyes and placed her cold foot against Ethan’s leg causing him to jump at the sensation. “Now, that’s just cruel,” he joked.
Natalie chuckled. “That’s what you get for being snarky this early in the morning.”
Ethan shook his head, smiling. “Yes, dear.” He nuzzled his nose into her hair and placed a soft kiss on her temple. Just as the two of them settled back into bed, they heard the distinct sound of their bedroom door creaking open. Ethan looked to the source to find Evie sneaking into the room. “Hi honey, everything okay?”
Evie nodded. “It’s cold,” she replied.
“Come here,” Ethan gestured. “We’ll put you right between me and Mama for extra warmth.” Evie followed her father’s instructions and crawled into the middle of the bed, snuggling under the covers between her parents. Ethan wrapped his arm around the three Ramsey women, who now occupied most of his bed, as best he could, his fingertips just resting on little Lydia’s back. His head falling back onto the pillow, he slowly began to drift back to sleep.
Until the door creaked open again. He did his best not to groan; it appeared this would not be the Sunday to lie in.
This time, Nat was the one to look up at the new occupant of the room, finding Noah groggily looking confused at his parents. “I heard voices,” he explained, “it woke me up.”
“Sorry, Bear,” Nat said. She quickly glanced at Ethan who gave her a small nod before she looked back at her son. “Come on in here, there’s plenty of room.”
“I’m too tall, I won’t fit in with the rest of you,” Noah protested. It was true, he was tall for an eleven-year-old; but neither Nat nor Ethan cared. Their boy would never be too tall for them for anything; especially cuddles.
“I’m tall too,” Ethan reasoned, “and I still fit. Come on, we’ll make it work.”
“Come on, Noey,” little Lydia encouraged.
Smiling, Noah nodded and crawled into his parent’s bed, snuggling next to Nat as Evie snuggled against Ethan. It was tight, with all five of them in the bed at once, but the Ramseys were nothing if not resourceful, and they found a way to make it work. With all of their children tucked safely into their arms, the Ramseys finally fell back asleep, as a light snow fell on the ground outside. As both Ethan and Natalie drifted back into their slumber, they shared one singular thought: Sundays were their favorite days.

Tumblr media
“What's wrong?” Vanessa looks at you questioningly.
“I think I might have had skipped for a couple of days,” you admit, scrunching your nose.
“Can you be less vague? Cause I’m not getting it” she deadpans as you scowl at her for not getting your implication.
“Okay so I got shot a month ago I hope you remember that. I was on medication right? Well a lot of medications actually” you half shrug “so with all that going on I may or may not have forgotten to take the pills during that time and we got caught up in the moment at one time and things just happened you know”
“Well you guys are literal horndogs I have no doubt in that” she rolls her eyes “but you need to take the test” she states out to you.
“What? Now?” you looked at her stunned.
“Yes and right now” she stresses on her words.
“But I don't have any test kits at this moment” you mutter
“Then I'll ask someone to get them from the store”
“No! don’t tell anyone especially the boys” you give her a panicked look and Vanessa scoffs.
“OK relax I'll go and get it for you” saying so she left immediately. It took half an hour for Vanessa to make a trip round to the store as you waited for her in your room anxiously.
“Here” she hands you the pregnancy test kit. You nibble on to your bottom lip glancing back and forth between the box and her face.
“C'mon go on” she urged you on. You finally stood up and went inside the bathroom. Closing the door behind you let out a deep sigh taking one last glance at the box before opening it. After reading the instructions carefully you proceeded to do accordingly. When you were done you placed the stick on the marble counter and opened the door for Vanessa to come in.
“Done” you inform her.
“OK, now we wait,” she says, glancing at her watch. Five minutes appeared to be five years for you as you paced back and forth while Vanessa chewed on her nails leaning on the counter in anticipation.
“OK it’s time” she announces and you feel your heartbeat quicken. You took a deep breath and stepped forward to have a look but immediately backed off feeling anxious.
“Oh god I can't look at it” you wrap your arms around yourself.
“What?” Vanessa looks at you puzzled.
“You check it for me please I can’t” you gave her an earnest look.
“You're so dramatic” she rolls her eyes and goes to check the result and falls silent taking the test in hand.
“What? What is it?” you ask impatiently.
“Negative” she answers.
“Negative? Really?” you weren't convinced with the result as you looked at her with doubt in your eyes.
“Yeah” she confirms again.
“Oh that's a relief heh” you chuckle lightly “I told you before only it's just a stomach bug”
“You're upset that it's negative, aren’t you?” Vanessa gives you a knowing look.
“What? No I mean… yeah a little it wouldn't be bad you know but nevermind” you fiddle with your hands fumbling on your words.
“So you wanted a baby?” she raises her eyebrows questioningly.
“I mean yeah I love kids and wouldn't mind one of my own specially if it’s a cute little version of my husband running around the house on his little feet” you expressed your little desire.
“You sure?” she reasserts, raising her eyebrows as the corner of her mouth picks into a smile.
“Yeah but it doesn't matter anyways cause the test is negative as you said” you shrugged letting off the thought.
“Well then good news sissy it's actually positive” Vanessa smiles at you widely and you were taken aback.
“What?! You serious?” she nods, holding out the stick in front of you to see it yourself.
“Oh my god you bitch!” you gasp “who's dramatic now huh?” you scowl, hitting her arm lightly.
“Ow! At least I helped you figure out what you actually feel about the whole thing” she places her hands on your shoulders “congratulations sister you’re gonna have a baby!”
“I’m gonna have a baby” you repeat that to yourself. You still couldn’t believe that this was happening as you placed a hand gently over your stomach
“And I'm going to be an aunt. I’m so happy for you guys” she hugs you tightly but soon your face drops as you pull away from her with a worried expression.
“What happened? Why again the gloomy face?” Vanessa nudges you.
“I don’t want my baby to be part of this bloodshed. I have been trying to run away from this and here I’m again pushing my child right into that same hell hole” you rant with tears in your eyes.
“I think you need to first talk to Tom and then make a decision. You understand?” you nod “everything will be fine don’t worry” she pulls you in her embrace comforting you.
It was almost a week that you got to know you were pregnant but still you couldn’t break the news to Tom, you just didn’t have the nerves to do it yet.
****
You stood by the mirror glancing at your reflection though there wasn’t a visible bump but you still rubbed your hand over your belly. The thought of a life growing inside made your heart swell with warmth. Somehow you felt more livelier than you have ever been a certain glow emanating through your features. Maybe this is what people meant by pregnancy glow. You felt happy and content from inside out, you felt complete as if you had found the missing piece of your life. But you still had to tell Tom and the only person you could think of for some advice was your mom as you finally called her.
“Hi sweetie” your mother’s sweet voice comes from the other end.
“Hey mom”
“So what reminds my daughter about her old mother?” she snickers.
“Mom! you really think that I called for another favor” you grimace.
“Well you don't call much for me to think otherwise”
“C'mon mom you know my situation with dad”
“Yeah, yeah I'm just messing with you now, what’s the matter? you sound stressed” she observed.
“I... just really miss you” you sigh
“Sweetie, is everything alright?” she asks with concern.
“Yeah just wanted to hear your voice that’s all”
“I'm your mother Y/N, I can totally feel that something is bothering my little girl?”
“Mom, can I ask you something?” you say taking a deep breath.
“Anything honey”
“Were you scared when you first came to know that you were pregnant with me?”
“What?”
“I mean to say that I was totally unplanned and for my sake you had to marry that man so were you scared thinking about what your future will be in a crime family?”
“Well honestly I had little choice in that matter. I was stuck in the middle of the rivalry so in order to keep you safe I married him. But honey the day I held you in my arms all my fears went away. The only thing I know is that I can spend the rest of my life looking at you. You were never a mistake you were the best gift given to me”
“That's nice to hear” you smile
“But why after so many years you are bringing this up?”
“Nothing I just have somethings in my mind going on right now and it feels a lot” you try to shrug it off.
“Sweetie, what are you hiding from me?” she prods.
“Nothing mom I swear!” you exclaim.
“I know very well what this ‘nothing mom’ means c'mon tell me”
“Well I'm pregnant” you inform as you hear her gasp.
“What?! Oh my god I can't believe my ears, is this really true? This isn’t a prank right? Like you used to do when you were little”
“No mom it isn’t a prank” you reassure her lightly chuckling.
“Oh god I'm so happy for you honey. My little girl is going to be a mom herself? When did she grow so big?” she shrieks eyes welling up in happiness “Does Tom know?”
“Not yet” you inform.
“Not yet? Why what's wrong? Does he not want it?”
“No it’s nothing like that… actually I myself don’t know. This just happened so suddenly though I was thrilled initially but now I’m worried actually scared I-I don't think I will be a good mother. I mean my life is already a mess. I don't want to give this life to my child. They don't deserve this”
“Listen to me Y/N no one is perfect even I made mistakes too and that’s how we learn. How much ever you want to plan your life Y/N, it will always have a way of surprising you with unexpected things that will make you happier than you originally planned” she makes you understand “Tom is a nice guy I’m sure he’ll always be by your side. And I know my girl too and how much strong she is you have got this Y/N just believe in yourself and Tom”
“Thanks mom really needed to hear this from you”
“Anytime honey now take some rest and then tell everything to Tom, speak to you soon, love you”
“Love you too mom” you end the call feeling lighthearted as if a weight has been lifted off your chest. You grew up in a very dysfunctional family which made you yearn for a perfect happy family and when you have finally got it you’re not going to let anything mess it up at any cost.
****
The basement of your mansion was kind of Tom’s personal hell. He had particularly made it to held people captive for whoever dared to cross him and torture them to death. You were actually never allowed down there but today you got to join him. As you approached the room in the basement you heard screams and groans of a man in pain. Tom opened the door and you both stepped inside to find Ethan tied up in a chair beaten mercilessly barely conscious groaning in pain. His body was pale and face bruised with a black eye, nose bleeding, jaw swollen from the right temple down the cheek. Harrison was standing in front of him in a black tank top and jeans all worked up heaving in anger as you noticed his bloody knuckles. Two other lackeys were also present to help him with the interrogation.
“Haz anything so far?” Tom asks, lighting up a cigarette.
“Nothing till now this bastard won't speak up” he mutters, grabbing a fistful of Ethan’s silky black hair and tugging it harshly. Tom stalks towards him and bents down blowing the smoke on his face
“Well mate you have to speak up some or the other time” he smirks with a condescending tone.
“Over my dead body” Ethan grits under his teeth glaring at him.
“Sooner or later you are gonna end up dead anyways but not before you tell us everything you know about the rest of the viper gang”
“You think you can torture me to disclose everything” he snickers weakly “nah you have got the wrong man dude. You gotta do lot more than this”
“You know what Ethan? I'm not good with patience so the sooner you speak up the sooner you get your sweet death”
“And I think I’ve got the time of the world” he laughs tauntingly “why don’t you ask your wife to do it? Maybe she can seduce everything out of me like the pathetic whore she is” he slurs at you with a mocking tone. Tom clenches his jaw as his hands balled into tight fists and in no time he lands a punch right at his jugular as he coughs up blood.
“Watch your bloody mouth!” Tom growls, grabbing him by his collar “you really don’t know how tempted I am to cut you into pieces one by one as I watch you slowly bleed to death” he mutters, looking at him with malice in his eyes.
The scene in front of you wasn’t that pleasant though you’re used to it but with the raging pregnancy hormones everything seemed heightened for you. The room began to feel stuffy as you found it difficult to breathe adding to that the raunchy putrid smell of blood mixed with the smell of nicotine in the room swept through your nose which made your stomach churn and you tasted bile. The urge to throw up grew strong for you to hold it any longer. You grabbed your mouth, letting out a muffled "excuse me" you ran upstairs to your room.
“Y/N?” Tom lets go of Ethan and calls you back worriedly as everyone’s attention turns to you.
“You go check I can handle this” Harrison assures exchanging glances with Tom as he nodded and sprinted off to your bedroom. He finds the bathroom locked as he hears gagging noises from inside.
“Y/N, love you alright?” He knocks on the door
“Yeah I'm fine” you answer before throwing up again. When you were sure that there’s nothing left for you to throw up you stepped out of the bathroom face flushed and exhausted. Tom hastily went to hold your hand.
“Oh my god are you ok?” he gasps lightly
“Yes Tom I’m fine don’t worry” you tell him
“You don't look fine to me” he drapes a hand around your shoulders and slowly walks you towards the bed and makes you sit down.
“Tom it's ok”
“Y/N we need to go see a doctor now” he insists.
“No, no it’s fine a little rest will be enough for me”
“I’m not listening to anything, wait I-I’m calling the doctor at home only” he fumbles pulling out his phone from his pocket to make a call.
“Tom, relax! It's totally normal in the first months of pregnancy” you exclaim
“What?!” Tom frowns as your eyes go wide realizing your slip up  “Did you just say pregnancy?” he reiterates.
“Yes” you sigh standing up “I'm pregnant….with our child” you reveal placing your hand over your belly and Tom’s expression changed into a mix of shock and happiness.
“What? You're serious? You-you aren't kidding right?”
“Do I seem to be in the state of joking?” you raise your eyebrows unamused.
“Yeah, yeah right” he mumbles to himself as he processes the news and soon after excitement takes over him “Oh god Y/N this is such great news!” He lifts you up and does a little spin.
“Oh my god Tom put me down!” you squeal
“Oh I’m sorry” he puts you down “I’m just so excited. When did you get to know?”
“A week ago” you said meekly.
“And you didn't tell me? Why?” you felt a little intimidated under his questioning gaze. Even before you could say something he made his own assumption.
“Wait, you don't want this, is that why?” he looks at you with dreaded eyes
“No, No, no that's not what it is?” you shake your head vigorously in disapproval “you have got it all wrong”
“Then what is it Y/N?” he asks you softly.
“It's actually the opposite. I was just scared as it was totally unplanned and with all this going on with my father you are already tensed. I wasn’t sure how you would react” you rambled.
“Oh darling” he breathes out cupping your face gently with his broad hands “you don't know today you have made me the happiest man on this fucking world. This is everything I wanted honey. You, me and our perfect little happy family” you smiled at him as he carefully placed his hands on your belly.
“How far are you? Is everything normal? Are you both ok?” he badgered you with questions.
“I... actually thought you would come with me on my first checkup” you looked at him bashfully “it's-it's just I wanted you to be there with me if you aren't too busy”
“Of course love, no work is more important than you and my little one” he beams with joy. Tom didn’t waste a second to call at the hospital to schedule your appointment.
“Mr. and Mrs. Holland” the nurse calls out
“Yes?” you both respond standing up from your seats.
“Dr. Martin is ready to see you” she informs and leads you inside the room.
“Please lie down” she instructs and you follow by lying down on the examination chair while Tom sits on the chair beside you. The nurse then leaves the room and soon after the doctor arrives. She was a middle aged woman and looked quite experienced as she greeted you warmly.
“Hello Mrs. Holland, I’m Dr. Martin”
“Hello doctor” you smiled courteously.
“So how are you feeling today?”
“I feel fine, doctor, just a little bit tired...” you were quickly cut off by Tom
“No doctor she got really sick and nauseous the other day” he puts forth his concern.
“Morning sickness is normal at this time Mr. Holland. There’s nothing to worry about” she reassures him.
“See?” you whisper with a knowing glare. Tom still wasn’t convinced but let it go for now.
“Ready to have a first look at your baby?” she asks cheerfully as you nod, lifting your shirt up. She rubbed the cool gel on your lower stomach while Tom held your hand tightly. Then she switches the monitor on and runs the tool on your belly. A hazy black and white image appears on the screen as the room fills with the rhythmic beeping of heartbeat. You and Tom stare at the monitor in awe.
“You see right here?” the doctor points at the middle of the screen with a pen.
“Awww that's our baby” you squeeze Tom's hand gently, a stray tear of joy rolls down your cheek. Tom was himself brimming with emotions, he knelt down and kissed your forehead with adoration as you noticed London’s most feared mobster’s eyes wet.
“I can already pick the heartbeats” she reveals further as you both give her a puzzled look.
“Heartbeats? As in plural” Tom asked in shock.
“Yeah two heartbeats” she confirms “you're going to have twins Mrs. Holland” she adds. You gasped and smiled instantly feeling giddy and overwhelmed at the news.
“We're gonna have twins” you looked up at him with a sparkle in your eyes.
“Yes we are, love” a wide smile spread across his face “you gotta admit I did a really good job in there though” he whispers cockily and there he was back again in his usual self.
“Tom!” you glared, squeezing his hand tightly.
“Ow! Sorry, sorry” he chuckles when you both were interrupted as Dr Martin began to speak again.
“You are approximately 8 weeks and all parameters seem to be normal. The babies are growing fine, nothing to worry about. After 10 weeks we can identify the genders” she elucidates “But you have to be extra careful as you are a new mom and with twins. Everything will be doubled for you so maintaining a proper diet, getting a good amount of sleep is very important. No heavy lifting and most importantly no stress at all as it directly affects the babies. The expectant mother should always be happy” she advises.
“We’ll keep that in mind doc thank you so much” Tom acknowledges her.
“Well then I’ll see you on your next check up. Do you want the prints of the ultrasound?”
“Yes please” you both said together.
“Ok I’ll get it right away”
On the way back home the whole ride Tom kept rambling about how everything needed to be baby proofed and keep everything ready as if you are going to labor tomorrow itself. He even suggested that he shift your bedroom downstairs so that you don’t have to climb up the stairs. You had to literally ask him to shut up and relax that you have seven more months to go.
****
You were about to get off the bed when Tom came in with a huge tray of food.
“Good morning love” he went and sat in front placing the tray on his lap as you looked at the amount of food which was double than you usually have.
“What's all this Tom?” you ask frowning.
“Breakfast in bed”
“I can see that but is this a breakfast for a giant? What's with these enormous portions?” you pointed out.
“If I may remind you, you are now eating for three so you have to eat accordingly”
“In no way I'm going to eat that much” you stated firmly
“But darling…”
“Nope, not happening. I said no means no” you shake your head side to side “I don’t want to get fat because after a few I’m gonna be all big and round anyways and then you wouldn't look at me” your hormones getting the best of your insecurities as you rambled without much thinking.
“Hey look at me” he holds your chin between his index and thumb fingers making you look at him “you seriously think that? You. will. always. be. the prettiest woman for me do you understand?” he asks as you nod “I bet you are going to be the most beautiful mom. Our kids are lucky to have a fearless, confident woman like you as their mother” he says looking deep into your eyes “and I can’t wait to see you all big and round” he adds smiling.
“But I’m still not gonna eat all of it”
“Ok you can eat as much you can no pressure” he assures you as you take the fruit bowl in your hand and start to munch on the fruits one by one going into a deep thought.
“Now what is going on in that mind of yours?” he asks breaking you out of your thoughts.
“I think we should tell everyone I mean your mom and dad then the boys they would be thrilled to know”
“So you wanna invite them over lunch?” he offers.
“Yeah that will be really nice”
****
Tom’s family arrived on time, after lunch all of you gathered in the living room as you and Tom stood in the middle. Everyone looked at you both expectantly though Tom’s dad had a disinterested look like all times.
“Sorry for the short notice but this was kind of important and we were really excited to share this news with you” you started.
“Did the police catch your father?” Harry asks out of nowhere
“That would have been really nice but unfortunately no”
“Then what is it?” Harrison asks impatiently.
“Well….we’re pregnant” you both announce.
“What?!” everyone collectively gasped.
“Is it true?” Nikki looked between you two
“Yes mum” Tom confirms bashfully wrapping a hand around your waist and pulling you closer.
“Oh my god this is such good news” she gets up to you and takes your hands in hers “I’m so happy for you” she cradles the side of your face lovingly.
“Finally I'm going to get to see the face of my grandson, my heir. That's some good news after all huh” Tom’s dad remarks with gruff in his voice as Nikki looks at you apologetically.
“Actually dad, we're going to have twins,” Tom added.
“Well that’s good, can't wait to meet my grandsons as they’re going to take over our business in future” he said still emphasizing on having a son and honestly neither you nor Tom wanted your twins to join the mob.
“Oh dear now that’s something big” Nikki tries to lighten the mood “I remember when I was with Harry and Sam it was a lot of cravings and mood swings get ready for it Tom” she snickers as she starts to give you some helpful tips to make everything a little easier for you as this is your first time.
“Congratulations bro” Harrison goes and hugs Tom tightly.
“Thanks man”
“So I’m gonna be the godfather I assume?” he asks.
“Well we’re yet to decide that” Tom snickers.
“What? C’mon man I’m your best friend and I’m going to be the godfather, that’s final. I know Y/N is still angry at me which by the way is your fault but I’ll manage her” he states confidently
“Good luck with that,” Tom laughs. Everyone left after sometime leaving you both all by yourselves in your house. Tom turns to smiling.
“What?” you ask.
“Close your eyes,” he says.
“Why?” you look at him skeptically
“You still don’t trust me don’t you?”
“No” you quip with a smirk.
“Just close your eyes please I have something to show to you” he pouts with puppy eyes
“Okay” you close your eyes “happy?”
“Yes now come with me”
“Where are you taking me?” you ask again.
“You’ll see soon” he takes your hand and carefully guides you up the stairs. He brings you in front of a room with a large wooden door and slowly clicks the door open.
“Now open your eyes” he whispers softly into your ears. You flutter your eyes open to be awestruck as you look inside the room. It was a nursery for your twins. You looked at everything with wide eyes, two twin cribs situated in the middle with cute plushies in it, the walls painted in soft pastel gender neutral shades, the lighting of the room well coordinated making it look warm and cozy. An armchair for you to take rest.
“How is it?” Tom's voice breaks you out of your thoughts.
“Tom, it’s-it’s beautiful” you breathe out “but when did you?” you looked at him quizzical
“Well as soon as you told me I called in some favors and had this room renovated” he reveals to you.
“It's-it's really beautiful Tom” you walked further into the room towards the cribs. Brushing your hand over the wooden railings you picked up the baby towel and rubbed it against your cheek feeling the soft texture.
“Sorry I don't have much idea about all this stuff, I just tried my best to make it as comfortable for you three. If you want anything else just tell me I'll get it done” he says scratching the back of his neck.
“Tom, it's perfect. You did a great job. I love it” you take his hand and place it over your belly “and they are gonna love it too” you reassure him.
“I installed a music system too” he adds, turning on the music as he wraps his hands around your waist and sways gently to the music “it's said that listening to calming music helps during this time”
“Someone has been busy reading I see” you tease.
“Well I just want to be there for you guys” he shrugs nonchalantly.
“Aww where did this softy come from? What did you do to my terrifying ruthless mobster husband?” you joke laughing.
“Haha very funny” he scoffs when you finally notice the lyrics of the song.
“Is this our wedding song?” you ask with a knowing smile.
“Yep”
I know you haven't made your mind up yet But I would never do you wrong I've known it from the moment that we met No doubt in my mind where you belong
“Did I ever tell you how bloody gorgeous you looked that day? Just like an angel from the heavens”
“Oh shut up!” you blushed, hitting his chest playfully.
“What? I’m serious” he laughs “couldn’t take my eyes off you”
“Well you didn’t look bad either” you snicker resting your head on his chest “that was such a long time ago isn’t it?”
“Hmm” he hums
“If anybody had told me that we will end up like this I would have never believed it at all” you chuckle at the memories of the numerous heated arguments you had with each other. But now you find solace in each other's arms.
“We have come a long way” he sighs as you feel him tense under you. Something was still bothering him, you knew it for sure.
“Wanna sit down?” you posed
“No it’s fine I’m not tired”
“Well I am pregnant with twins you know heh” he lets go of you and you go and sit on the floor near the cribs back resting against them. You pat on the empty spot beside you urging him to sit down too. He comes and sits down tilting his head on your shoulder as you run your fingers through his soft brown curls.
“I needed to say something to you” he finally lets out.
“Go on I’m listening”
“Don't mind my dad's words I don't care if they are girls or boys I just want you three to be healthy and safe” he says as you go to kiss his forehead lovingly “If you ask me personally I would be thrilled to have two mini Y/Ns” he add.
“Careful what you wish for Mr. Holland you don’t want thrice the trouble do you?” you chuckle.
“Gladly Mrs. Holland” he laughs before turning all gloomy again “do you think they would like me?”
“You are their father Tom they would always love you”
“But what if they don't? What if they hate me when they come to what kind of man their dad is and everything he has done in his life?” he rambles.
“Tom as the eldest son you didn't have a choice they would surely understand” you try your best to make him understand.
“I don't know Y/N, you know my dad wasn't that present for us. It was just us and mum. And when time came all of a sudden I was accompanying him killing people and beating them to death. I want to change that I want to be there for them, for you in every step of your life and most importantly I don’t want that life for them” he rants out.
“Honey, you wanting to do things right has already made you the best father in the world. They are gonna be so proud of their daddy” you cradle his face affectionately.
“You know what, I'm going to stop doing all the illegal trades” he blurts out.
“What do you mean?” you frown at him.
“Means no more shark loaning, extortion, gambling, contract killing everything, everything that's against the laws. I have already made a lot of enemies” he places a hand on your stomach “and I'm not gonna let them inherit this curse too. I need to cut off my ties with the underworld”
“But what about your dad I don't think he would agree with and your brothers then Harrison?”
“Dad will be angry I'm sure of that but Harrison, Sam and Harry would understand. I want to make sure that you all are safe and no more hiding skeletons in the closet” he gives you a determined look as you smile.
“Do whatever is necessary I'll always be there by your side cause I love you”
“I love you too” he says back as your lips meet softly into a chaste kiss.
I could make you happy, make your dreams come true Nothing that I wouldn't do Go to the ends of the Earth for you To make you feel my love To make you feel my love
****
You woke up the next morning hearing some commotion outside your room. You could hear Tom yelling at his men judging by the tone he was furious.
“What?!” he was shocked “how did this happen?! And what were you morons doing at that time?!”
“Sir-sir” the men stuttered in fear.
“I don't want to hear a fucking word from your mouths! Go and find him now or I'll kill you” he threatens “now get out of my sight!” meanwhile, you slip off the bed and put on your robe before stepping out of your room.
“Tom is everything alright” you ask with a worried expression.
“Oh I'm sorry darling did I wake you up? It’s nothing, go back to sleep there will be no more disturbance” he pretends to act like everything is ok.
“Tom, stop lying, what is it? What has happened?” you enquire.
“Nothing darling I promise” he tries his best to convince you but you weren’t buying any of it.
“You're not gonna tell me? fine! I'll go and find out myself” you glower at him.
“Y/N no wait you” he stops you, catching hold of your hand.
“Then tell me what it is?” you demand with a serious look on your face.
“Ethan escaped”

Hola preciosa! Here are this week's questions for Ethan and Casey!
Note: Once again, this week’s round focuses on photos! Dialogue is entirely optional, though for some of these, it’d be fun to know the story behind the pictures ;) Tumblr mobile only allows 10 picture uploads (there are 10 questions), so collages are highly encouraged! Otherwise, the non-beta version of Tumblr desktop will allow more than ten.
Have fun!

Casey: Babe, Bree sent us some new questions! Hurry up, we've been so busy that it's now or never, now we have time to answer them all!
Ethan: Oh, it's that time of the week again... should I be prepared for you to embarrass me again?
Casey: Maaaaybe... let's see...
Ethan: Just remember to choose your words wisely, honey... I may always strike back...
For Casey:
Favorite childhood photo of Ethan
Ethan: Casey...
Casey: *with a mischievous smile* What?
Ethan: Don't you dare...
Casey: *with a mischievous smile* What?
Ethan: You know what...
Casey: Nah... don't worry... I won't embarrass you by showing our audience a picture where you're making out with a teddy bear...
Ethan: *blushing* 30 seconds and you did it... how embarrasing... for the record, I was playing doctors and decided to practice CPR on my teddy bear, I don't know why Casey and my dad insist on that making out thing...
Casey: Sure, sweetie... well, Alan sent me this one a while ago and it's definitely one of my favorites. It reminds me of that time when I heard Ethan talking to Mrs. Martinez about how he was "a lovable scoundrel who got away with everything"... that's exactly how I imagine his face after being caught making mischieves...
Ethan: *smiling* I won't even try to rebate you... you're so right this time...
Casey: What do you mean with "this time"? You should know by now that your wife is always right...
Ethan: That's debatable, but whatever you say, dear...
Tumblr media
What’s your phone wallpaper image?
Casey: I could have a hundred different pictures of my hot husband... but then I remember that I work at a hospital and my phone can be seen by a lot of people... so I have no choice but to keep things PG...
Ethan: I'm also your boss... it would definitely be a problem...
Casey: Don't worry, I have my ways to show off my husband...
Ethan: Now I'm scared to ask... but tell me...
Casey: It's easy... every time a person sees my phone and they ask me if you're my boyfriend, I show them my ring and then tell them "he's actually my husband"... 💅
Ethan: *laughing* Why do I find this so embarrassing but at the same time I feel that have to see it?
Tumblr media

Casey: Again... we really have to keep things professional because of the job... but that doesn't mean that we can't play with our ringtones... *wink*
Ethan: I have to admit that it was a smart idea... when did you take that picture?
Casey: It was one of those days where you weren't on a "photo mood", which, for the record, is almost every day. For some reason, it worked and I liked it...
Tumblr media
Top three photo results when you Google Ethan
Casey: OK, there's no way that I'm winning this round...
Ethan: Why?
Casey: Are you serious? Ethan, you have a picture with prince Charles! How am I supposed to top that? All of my pictures in Google are taken from the Edenbrook site!
Ethan: Wait... do you google yourself?
Casey: Of course I do! Don't you?
Ethan: No, why would I do that? You know I think the Internet is a scary place
Casey: I don't know... curiosity...
Ethan: Then why did you never google me before being accepted at Edenbrook or during medical school?
Casey: I already told you, I wanted the knowledge to do all the talking... and OMG you're just so handsome that I don't know if I could have been able to focus on the medicine... so apparently my original plan worked...
Ethan: *smiling* I think it did...
Casey: Anyway, what surprises me about the picture in black and white is not the fact that they wanted to use you as a model for the Edenbrook site because just look at yourself babe, but the fact that you actually agreed to do it!
Ethan: I had no choice... they said something about representing the hospital...
Casey: *smiling* That's what I thought... and the third one is from Harvard, you went there to talk to the students and you asked me to go with you "to represent the diagnostics team"... back then you had some funny ways to ask me to go on a date with you...
Ethan: But this wasn't a date, it was a professional activity... but I might have wanted you to be there with me because I wanted to spend time with you...
Casey: *feeling victorious* Yes! You finally admitted it! Is this being recorded?
Tumblr media
First picture of or with him that you uploaded to social media
Casey: Let's say that this picture is... "complicated"... look at it, even the text is so awkward! I wish I had a better first picture...
Ethan: Agreed... we weren't at our best there...
Casey: Yeah... it was taken at the Harvard activity, during the time that someone *looks at Ethan* decided that we needed to "reset" our relationship because my professional developement was more important...
Ethan: I don't know what was I thinking...
Casey: Oh, I know... I'm in peace with that decision though, after seeing things in retrospective I think I was able to understand why you did it...
Ethan: *surprised* You did?
Casey: Yeah... you did it because you cared about me... the only problem is that it didn't work... *smiling*... I ended up falling more for you... no regrets, though...
Ethan: *kissing her cheek* No regrets from me either...
Tumblr media
Casey: If you ask me, I prefer the one where I made our relationship Pictagram official, but I don't want to cheat... even though the fact that no one was actually surprised made me wonder how subtle we really were before making our relationship public...
Ethan: Agreed...
~~*~~*~~
For Ethan:
Favorite childhood photo of Casey
Ethan: Now I need you to explain me a few things here...
Casey: *surprised* OMG, how did you get this picture?
Ethan: I happen to have a very good relationship with your brother... he said he found it in one of your grandmother's photo albums, but he didn't tell me the story behind it... what were you doing here?
Casey: *smiling* It was some Halloween, I don't remember if we were 4 or 5 years old, but I remember we didn't have money to buy new customes, so we told mom and dad not to worry about it and dressed up with whatever we found at home...
Ethan: *smiling* And that included some panties in your head?
Casey: *smiling* Hey! I thought they were a cool hat!
Ethan: By the way, when were you going to tell me that your hair was curly... and... were you blonde?
Casey: My hair changed a lot over the years, and I just lost both, the curls and the lighter tone... why is that even important?
Ethan: *smiling* I don't want to think that they gave us the wrong baby at the hospital if they happen to be blonde...
Casey: *choking on her water* Wait, why are we talking about babies now? I thought they weren't in the cards for us...
Ethan: *smiling* We both have changed our minds so many times throughout our relationship... I might have changed my mind about this...
Casey: *surprised* Now we do need to have some serious talk after this...
Tumblr media
What’s your phone wallpaper image?
Ethan: My gorgeous wife in our honeymoon...
Casey: You're a fan of my photos with little to no makeup...
Ethan: I am... I don't even know why you buy makeup, you don't need it...
Casey: The bags under my eyes say otherwise... I appreciate the compliments, though... *winks*
Tumblr media
Contact name and photo for Casey
Ethan: She's the one who added the hearts... and the one who changed her name from "Casey" to "Wifey"...
Casey: Of course I did! Do you know that in case of an emergency these emojis are super useful, because they make your name to appear at the very beginning of your contact list?
Ethan: Of course I know it... but if that's your excuse for adding the hearts, then you should have kept your name, they won't know who they are calling to...
Casey: Of course they'll know! They'll be calling your wifey! 💅
Tumblr media
Top three photo results when you Google Casey
Casey: See? Boring...
Ethan: What are you talking about? I remember each and every one of these pictures and they all make me feel incredibly proud, both as your mentor and as your husband...
Casey: *blushing* You're making me blush!
Ethan: It's the truth, they only show accomplishments... the first picture, the one where you're in black, is your official picture as an attending and head of the diagnostics team at the Edenbrook site... the second one, the one where you're wearing a blouse, is from your first day as head of the team... you look so happy and empowered, so ready to take the world by storm... and in the last one you are giving a speech to nurses in London as part of the collaboration between some American hospitals and the British NHS...
Casey: True, that trip explains your picture with the prince, too. Care to elaborate why there was only the two of us there? I don't want our audience to think that we were on some type of paid honeymoon before getting married...
Ethan: They won't think that...
Casey: Trust me, they will...
Ethan: *laughing* They didn't even know it was just the two of us there until you mentioned it!
Tumblr media
First picture you ever took of or with Casey
Ethan: That's easy... this one...
Casey: *surprised* I remember this one! I can't believe you kept it!
Ethan: Why would I delete it? You look beautiful!
Casey: I don't know... maybe because I asked you to take me this picture as a favor... back then we didn't even know we had feelings for each other! I was just an intern and you were my mentor!
Ethan: I remember it... we were at Donahue's discussing some things on Naveen's case, and while we were waiting for Reggie to bring us our drinks, you said you liked the light and wanted me to take you a picture for your Pictagram... but your battery was dead...
Casey: Don't lie, babe... I wanted to have a picture with you for my Pictagram, but you refused because we were in the middle of the competition for the spot in the team... but you agreed to take me a picture... wait... did you have feelings for me back then?
Ethan: I don't know, I think I was developing some feelings but I was very confused...
Casey: Wow, I can relate because I most probably felt the same way about you, but I'm surprised!
Tumblr media
Ethan: Well, that's it for this week... we had a very good time...
Casey: You've surprised me this time, Ramsey... especially with the first and the last pictures, I swear I had no idea that you had them... it was a rollercoster of emotions... thank you, Bree!!!
---
Gracias guapísima!!! I have so much work this week that this was a very much needed break... loved it!!!

"That's starting to sound like something." Joel said to Ellie as we walk up to her while she was sitting on a tree trunk, playing her guitar. We had decided to go out camping and since it was Ellie's birthday, we had a big surprise for her.
I had this homemade baby carrier, that would hold one baby in the front and one in the back, so that Aiden and Ethan could come with us. Ethan was strapped to my back and Aiden was in the holder that was around my chest.
Ellie looks up at us then scoffs. "I suck." She said, disappointed. "Nah...just need to build up your callouses, that's all." Joel told her and she looks down at her fingers. "Man." She grumbles then she looks up at us. "All right, c'mon." I said to her. "This it?" Ellie asked. "Yeah." Joel and I said. "Oh shit!" She exclaimed, excitedly, but then stops herself then looks up at me.
"I mean shoot." She said and I chuckled at her. Ever since the boys were born, she had been trying so hard to stop herself from swearing around the boys until they were old enough to understand.
"It's alright, Ellie." I said and we gesture for her to follow us. "I'm gonna start guessing." She said as we walked along the trails. "You wanna spoil your surprise now?" Joel asked her, curiously. "I dunno." Ellie mutters and I shake my head.
"Is it a dinosaur?" She asked and Joel scoffs, softly, at this. "Stop trying to guess, we ain't telling you." I told her and she scoffs. "All right. Is it...an elephant?" She asked and Joel grumbles at this and I smile. "Is it a convertible?" asked Ellie. "You're not gonna guess." Joel said.
"Is it a puppy? Is it a lotta kittens?" She asked. "You mean a litter?" I asked her. "What's a litter?" She asked, confused. "A bunch of kittens." Joel replied. "Then why is it not just called a bunch of kittens?" She asked. "We don't know. It's called a litter." Joel said, slightly annoyed, and we come up to this ledge and Joel pushes a branch back for Ellie to shimmy her way through.
"Mind your step." I warned her as she walks up and pass us. "I got it." She said and she starts to walk pass us when Joel gets behind her and pushes her. "Oops." He said and Ellie let's out a surprised yell and falls into the water.
Joel and I started to laugh, so did the boys, as Ellie resurfaces. "What is wrong with you?" She exclaims, angrily. "You should see your face right now." Joel said. "What if I drowned?" Ellie asked, angrily. "You're not gonna drown." Joel said, dismissively. "You gotta work on that confidence, sweetie." I said as we laugh.
"Yeah, keep laughing, you two." Ellie said and the boys began giggling a bit at this. "Yeah, same to you, you traitors!" She said then Joel points up ahead. "This way." He said. "You guys are the worst!" She shouts and she starts to swim.
"You're swimming's getting better. Remember now, just don't flail about, you gotta--" Joel started to explain but Ellie talks over him. "Push the water with your whole arm. Blah, blah, blah." She grumbles as she meets up with a ledge and gets out of the water while we walk ahead of her. "Glad to know we're getting through." I said as we come up to a ledge and see a deer off in the distance.
"Ellie, c'mere. Take a look at this. You see that deer over there?" Joel asked as she walks in between us. "Where?" She asked and I point it out across the lake. "See it?" I said. "Yeah, just through there, look." Joel said and Ellie bends down to look. "Yeah, I see it." She whispers. "Looks, like..." but before she finished her sentence, she shoves Joel down into the water.
I snorted out a laugh and cover my mouth as he resurfaces. "How's that feel?" Ellie asked him, her arms spread out, the boys also giggling at this. "Refreshing." Joel replied and I shake my head. "Yeah, it's not nice getting pushed in, is it?" Ellie asked him. "Would've pushed (y/n) but...she's got the boys." She said.
"Well...actually we need to swim through this part anyway." Joel tells her. "I got you back, you're angry and upset." Ellie said, obviously annoyed that she didn't get the right reaction from him. "I am very angry and upset. Now c'mon." Joel said, sarcastically, and Ellie scoffs before she jumps in the water.
"Hey, don't get too upset, Ellie. You at least get to swim for a bit, I have to walk around this." I said as I started walking along the woods. "Just be careful, honey." Joel said. "Hey, safety is my middle name!" I exclaimed, with sarcasm, and I make my around the lake.
After walking across some fallen tree branches and getting around parts of the wood, I catch up to Joel and Ellie as they get out of the water. "See? Made it." I said and we keep on walking. "Is it...my 6th grade history teacher wanting to apologize for being a massive dick?" Ellie asked. "I beg your pardon?" I asked her as Joel and I turn to her.
"My friend and I would argue whenever he called the Fireflies terriorts. We got a lot of detention." She explained. "You know you really need go stop letting people rile you up." Joel said to her. "It's hard when they're dicks." She grumbles. "Point still stands." Joel said, firmly, and we continued on.
"Is it...a new pair of sneakers?" She asked. "How many of those do you have?" Joel asked her. "Not enough." She remarks as we walk deeper into the woods. "Okay. Fuck it. I'm done guessing." She said after a while. "Oh good." Joel said, relieved. "But like...is it a massive comic book collection...now wait...a new DVD collection?" She asked and Joel and I sigh at this, exasperated.
"Yes." We said and she looks at us, confused. "Well, which one?" She asked. "Just...yes." Joel said. "How about laser disks? I heard that's a thing." said Ellie. "Why don't you find out for yourself?" I said and I point towards a trail next to us. She looks at us, confused, then starts to walk along it.
Joel and I share a smile before we follow her until we see the giant statue of the T-Rex. "Holy shit, guys!" She said, shocked. "We're here." Joel said. "Oh my God! It is a dinosaur!!" She exclaimed with excitement, her hands on her head.
"That it is." I said and she turns to us, her face lit up with happiness. "Guys!" She said, shocked and happy. "Surprise." Joel and I said to her, smiling, while Aiden and Ethan made some happy noises. "Holy shit! It's a motherfucking dinosaur!" Ellie shouts as she walks up to the statue then she turns to me and looks over at the boys
"I mean, uh...holy crap!" She said and I chuckle. "Ellie, it's okay." I assured her and she smiles as she looks at the statue. "Here, let me get Ethan." Joel said as he goes and pulls Ethan out of the carrier on my back. "Thanks." I said, relieved as my back was starting to hurt.
I look over at Joel as he holds Ethan in his arm and Ethan starts to lay his head against Joel's shoulder, his little arms wrapped around Joel's neck. He smiles then pats Ethan on the back and kisses the top of his head.
I smiled then I look towards the T-Rex statue and see Ellie on top of it, and I started to panic. "Ellie! What are you doing?!" I called out to her, worried, and Joel looks up as well. "I'm climbing a dinosaur!" She exclaimed as she gets to the head. "Yeah, we can see that just don't die from falling off of it." Joel calls out to her as she gets to the head and stands up.
"Look at me! I'm on a motherfucking dinosaur!!!" She exclaims. "Ellie! Don't jump! Just climb down!" I call out to her and she let's out a roar and jumps off, my heart stopped at this moment. "Hey, hey, hey!!!" Joel and I screamed as she falls and splashes into the water. Then she resurfaces and starts to laugh.
"Did you guys see that?" She asked us, happily, while Aiden and Ethan giggled and clapped. "Yeah, we saw that." Joel said, exasperated, as I let out a breath I had held in, my heart returning back to normal. "Wasn't that awesome?" She asked as she gets out of the water. "Awesome that you didn't break anything." I said to her and we head towards the old museum building.
We walk up to the entrance and Joel opens the door and we walk in as Ellie goes up to the old book holder and pulls out a book. "What's this?" She asked as she picks up the little pamphlet. "Uh...a book." said Joel and she looks up at us. "It's a dinosaur book." She said, happily, and she walks over to a shelf and finds a hat.
"Oh man!" She exclaims and she takes the hat and turns to Joel. "Hey, Joel. You wanna try it on?" She asked. "I do not." Joel replied and she shrugs. "Your loss." She said and she puts on the hat.
"You think it's okay for the boys to walk around here?" I asked Joel. "I reckon, just need to keep an eye on them." He said and I take Aiden out of the carrier and set him down on his feet. He wobbles a bit but started walking just as Joel set Ethan down, who walks as well. I can't believe that these two are only a year old and they already can walk, they're growing up way too fast.
"Whoa! Look at those talons." Ellie said, in awe, as she stared at one dinosaur bones. "That is a velociraptor." Joel said, proudly, as we walk up next to her while she pulls out her book. "Actually, it's a dee...Dee-oh-nin-y-chus." She reads. "Pretty sure these are velociraptor. Yeah." Joel said as he looks at the dinosaur. "At least that's what they called them in this movie we saw." I remarked and Ellie just hums then heads to the office behind the main desk.
Aiden and Ethan start to walk faster after her before they fall on their butts. Joel and I walk over to them to help them up as I said. "Boys, be careful. Don't run." Then I hold Aiden's hand and Joel holds Ethan's and both of us guide them to the office.
"Oh, hello, the dinosaurs are busy right now." Ellie said and we walk over to the door to see her sitting in the desk, holding the phone to her ear. "What are you doing?" I asked her and she looks up at us. "Oh, wait...two of the dinosaurs are here." Ellie said into the phone then she pulls it away from her ear.
"Joel...(y/n)...it's for you." She said. "Very funny." Joel said and Ellie chuckles. "It's pretty funny." She laughs. "Do you guys get it? Cause you two are old."
"Oh we get it." I said and Aiden and Ethan giggle as well. "See? They agree!" Ellie said and I shake my head. "Just laugh it up, girlie. It's gonna happen to you too." I said then I stopped walking and placed my hand over my face. "Oh God." I groaned. "What?" Joel asked me, concerned, and I just chuckle. "Nothing. It's just....I just sounded like my mom right there." I said, shaking my head.
He gives me a sympathetic look but I give a small smile towards him before we continued on. Ellie would look around at all of the dinosaurs until she started to put her hat on one of them. "Guys, look!" She exclaimed, happily. "That is a hat on a dinosaur." I said. "It's called a hatosaur." She said and I roll my eyes at her while she takes her hat back.
Then Ellie put her hat on another dinosaur. "Is this going to be a thing? Please don't let it be a thing." Joel said and Ellie chuckles as she takes her hat back then comes up to Joel.
"Hey, Joel." She said.
"Ellie." He said to her, warningly, but too late she put the hat on his head and he groans while Aiden and Ethan squealed. "Don't you dare take it off. My birthday, my rules." She said and I chuckle.
"Now we just need to find you a hat, (y/n)." She said. "Ah, no thank you." I said to her. "Oh now I'm definitely gonna find one." She said and she starts look around.
We follow her to another section of the museum, when Ellie points out a large thick skull of another dinosaur. "Look how thick that one's skull is!" She said. "Kinda looks like Tommy." Joel said and Ellie and I snorted at this. "I'm telling him you said that." Ellie said. "Please don't." Joel begs and I look at the skull.
"You might actually be on to something, Joel. Just catch that in the right light, boom, Tommy." I said and Ellie chuckles as she runs off to the side then gasps. "Yes!" She said and she comes back with a hat, similar to the one Joel's wearing only this one is blue. "Oh hell." I muttered and she goes to put it on my head.
"See? Now you guys match." Ellie said, laughing, and I rolled my eyes then we make our way to the stairs. Joel and I pick up the boys, carrying them, as Ellie begins running up the stairs. "Did you guys go to museums alot?" She asked. "Yeah. Yeah, Sarah loved them. I swear that girl dragged us to every damned museum in Texas." Joel said and I nod. "Yeah. But we always had fun." I said as we come up to the top of the brontosaurus, which its head was facing us.
"Looks like a giraffe." Ellie said to us. "Yeah it does, doesn't it?" I said and Joel takes off his hat then tosses it towards the skull of the brontosaurus, where it lands on it perfectly. Joel chuckles then turns to Ellie. "I see the appeal." He said and Ethan and Aiden clap and make funny noises as Ellie chuckles. "Told ya." She said as we set the boys down on their feet.
"Hey, let's go this way!" Ellie said to them and she takes the boys' hands and leads them towards another section of the museum. I smiled at this then take Joel's hand just as he takes off my hat, tosses it aside then he leans and kisses me. We pull back and smile at each other then we follow the kids to what is the space section.
Ellie makes it around the corner and gasps once she sees it. "Did you guys know that this was here?!" She asked, shocked. "You don't like it. We can head back." Joel said, pretending to sound disappointed, and Ellie laughs. "Shut up!" She said and she walks over this device and used a crank to turn it, making the plants above us move.
"Hey, guys, can you name all the planets?" She asked as she spins the crank. Joel and I chuckle a bit before he clears his throat. "My very educated mother just served us nice pizzas." Joel said and Ellie looks up at him, confused.
"Uh...did you just have a stroke?" She asked and I laugh. "My: Mercury, very: Venus, mother: Mars..." I explained to her. "Ohh, okay. I get it. That's pretty cool." She said then she stops spinning the crank then goes to look at the spaceship replicas.
"Hey, guys. Guess what was the first animal to go to space was?" She asked. "I don't have to guess, it was a monkey." Joel said and I think this for moment when an old memory came into my mind. "No, honey, I believe it was fruit flies. Something to do with radiation pressure or something." I said and Ellie looks at me, shocked and impressed.
"You're right! How'd you know that?" She asked me. "My cousin, Troy, and my brother were really into this kind've stuff when they were about your age." I replied. "I vaguely remember some facts but that one in particular, I remember because we argued about it as I also thought it was a monkey."
"Cool." Ellie said, smiling. "But did you know that astronauts said that the moon smells like gunpowder?" She asked and I shook my head. "No I didn't." I said and Joel chuckles, impressed. "Oh, wait--how would they--" he started to asked but Ellie talks over him. "Oh, they would take the moon samples back inside....and smelled them later, I guess." She said, shrugging.
Then she walks over to another area and picks up an astronaut helmet. "Oh cool!" She said and puts it on. "How does it smell in there?" Joel asked her. "Like space...and dust." She replied then she goes over to this shuttle and tries to open the door. Joel goes over and helps her open it then turns to her.
"After you." He said and she climbs in while I pick up Aiden and put him in the carrier on my front. "Careful." Joel said as he picks up Ethan and I get in to the shuttle at one end.
"Okay, Joel." I said and I hold out my hands and he hands Ethan to me and I pull him towards me as Joel gets into the seat in the middle of mine and Ellie's seat. "What the heck?" Ellie said in awe as I hand Ethan back to Joel while Ellie pushes buttons and makes noises.
"Wow!" She said as she looks around. "Would you look at all these buttons." Joel said as we just look around the set up of the shuttle, the boys reach out towards the buttons and push as many buttons as they could get their little fingers on. "It's so badass. Man. Could you imagine just..." she said then she laughs and starts to make noises of explosion, like the sound of a rocket taken off.
Joel and I share a look and I nod at him then he reaches into his shirt pocket and pulls out a cassette tape. Then he holds it out to her. "Happy birthday, kiddo." He said and she looks at it. "What is this?" She asked, gesturing at the tape. "That is something that took a might effort to find." I said to her and she smiles.
"Take it." Joel said and she takes the tape then pulls out her Walkman out of her backpack and inserts the tape. She pulls off her helmet and sticks her earbuds in her ear then puts the helmet back on and holds the Walkman up to her chest, before Joel places a hand over hers.
"Close your eyes." He instructs her after she looks over at us. "It'll be worth it." I assured her as she was giving us a confused look. She turns her head forward and pushes the play button.
The tape was a recording of the Apollo 11 launch, and we knew that she would love it.
She turns to us, her jaw hanging open, and she starts to giggle with excitement. We smiled at her as she moves her head forward and sits there for a few moments while I lean my head on Joel's shoulder.
Finally, she turns to us with the biggest smile I had ever seen on her face. "We do okay?" I asked her. "Are you fucking kidding me?" She asked, softly, and we begin to laugh. "You're welcome." Joel and I said, in unison, and we sit there, basking in the happy moment, before Joel looks around.
"Whaddya say we keep looking around, huh?" He asked. "Yeah, I guess." Ellie said and Joel hands Ethan to me and he climbs out as Ellie takes off her helmet then her earbuds and she starts to get up but then reaches out for Ethan. "Here, I'll hand him to Joel." She said and I hand him over and she gets out then leans in towards the doorway.
"Hand Aiden to me." She said and I pull him out of his carrier and hand him to her then I climb myself out of the shuttle. "Whew." I said then I dig into my pocket and pull out a space rocket pin. "Hey, Ellie." I said and she turns to me and I hold out the pin. "Welcome to Earth." I said and she smiles and takes the pin then hands Aiden to me.
Then she puts the pin on her backpack and we begin to look around some more.
We head towards the back door and Joel opens it. We go through and see the other half of the museum, but there was a long drop and and a pond down below. "Look, there's more museum stuff over there." Ellie said as she points at the building. "Yeah, we never checked that building." I said to her.
"Well, let's go." She said, excitedly. "And just how do you plan on getting yourself over there?" Joel asked her. Her response was to run and jump down into the water below. "Ellie!" Joel and I screamed, fearfully, as the boys screamed out as well. We go over to the edge and see that she had resurfaced and I let out a sigh of relief.
"Do you ever give anyone else this much grief?" Joel asked her. "Get down here!" Ellie calls out as she turns to us. "No!" We shouted at her. "Hey, who's birthday is it?" She asked us. "You can't keep doing that." Joel yelled.
"I want a good splash." Ellie said and Joel sighs then looks over at me. I look off to the right and go over there to see some platforms I could make my way down to. "I'll go down here. Put Ethan on my back." I said and Joel does just that.
"Be careful." He said and I smiled.
"Always." I said then I lean up and kiss him on the lips. "Come on, guys! We got more exploring to do!" Ellie calls out and Joel sighs. "Well...Can't keep birthday girl waiting." I said and he sighs then goes over the other edge and I start to make my way down.
"Geronimo!" He shouts as he jumps down and splashes into the water while I make my way down to the ground. "That was definitely a ten, sweetheart." I called out to Joel as he resurfaced and I come up to a pallet and I smiled.
"Hey, over here!" I shouted and both of them come over. "Use this to help get me and the boys across." I said and I push the pallet a bit into the water and Joel catches it. "Got it." He said and Ellie comes to the other side of the pallet and helps hold it.
I get on it and sit down while Joel and Ellie carries me and the boys to the other side. "Not so fun now that you have to help carry the pallet now, huh?" I said to Ellie. "Yeah, yeah." She grumbles as we make it over to the stairs and I get off and we start to walk towards the door.
Ellie goes to the door but it was jammed then she looks to the side. "Hey, boost me up there!" She said as she points at the open window. "Yeah, I don't know." Joel said, unsure, as I look up at the open window. "I'll open the door for you. Come on, we can't chicken out now." She said and Joel sighs and, reluctantly, stands under the window and boosts her up.
She climbs over and gets inside before we hear her call out to us. "Okay, bad news. There's shit blocking the door." She said. "Well, see if you can find another way in. We'll walk around the outside." Joel hollers at her. "Okay, be safe!" Ellie said. "You be safe!" Joel and I said. "There are dinosaurs around!" She shouts and I chuckle at this and we start to walk around the building.
"I'm glad she's enjoying herself." I said. "Yeah, me too. Just hope that there's nothing in there." said Joel. "Yeah, but she's a smart girl and we've seen her deal with worse." I said to him. "I know..." he mutters. I give a sympathetic smile to him and take his hand in mine when we hear a screeching sound coming from inside.
We jumped at this and Joel immediately takes out his gun. "Honey, stay here." He said to me and he walks ahead of me a bit. "Ellie!" I hear him call out as I slowly make my to him. Then I hear a door open and I come up behind him to see Ellie standing there.
"The hell was that?" I asked as we get inside. "It's just...some animal." She said and she looks at the wall next to her. Joel and I turn to it as well and my heart sinks when I see the familiar Firefly logo painted on the wall. Underneath it was the word Liars painted as well.
The three of us stare at it for a moment before Joel turns to Ellie. "Well, let's get a move on. I want to get a fire going before it gets too dark." He said to her as she continues to stare at the logo. "Come on." I said, softly, and we walk out of the building.

_____
Three Months Later
“Y/N, would you calm down. You’re gonna wear a hole in the floor,” said your mom as she moved about the kitchen. You whined and paced back over to the front room, glancing out the window. “Ethan. She’s doing it again.”
“Sweetie,” called your dad, popping up from the family room and walking around the corner to you. “They are the Ackles, not a pack of wolves.”
“I just really want this to go well,” you said. “They should have been here by now. Waco isn’t that far a drive from Dallas. Maybe they got screwed up with their hotel or something.”
“We told ‘em they could stay here. No use in having a guest room if the guests don’t use them,” said your dad. You looked over at him slowly, rolling your eyes. “That was a good one. I give it a 9.5.”
“Dad! My boyfriend’s family is not staying over our house! What were you thinking? What if they hate you! Or mom! I can’t believe you.”
“Direct a multi million dollar movie? She’s fine. Introduce her parents to her boyfriend’s parents? Apparently it’s the end of time as we know it.”
“Dad,” you groaned, your mom slipping away from the kitchen over to you. “Mom, why would you let him do this?”
“Why are you so nervous? We love Jensen and I’m sure we will love his family too,” she said.
“Cause what if you guys don’t like each other?” you said.
“If we don’t, then we don’t. It doesn’t affect you and Jensen though, kiddo. Relax,” he said. He rubbed your shoulders and you sighed. “Now go finish setting the table.”
“I already did that,” you said.
“Don’t worry,” said your mom, giving you a peck on the cheek. “They’ll be here real soon.”
You threw your head back and walked away, your parents laughing to themselves as you wandered out the front door and under the front porch. It was a very different style home than the house in LA. That was a massive mansion with beams and dark wood and looked grand. The Waco vacation house though, that was something more like you wanted for yourself someday. It was nice and updated but it was still just a house. A large one but nothing like in LA.
You remembered picking it out with your dad when you were about five years old. The house didn’t interest you too much but there was a swing on the tree in the backyard that you absolutely fell in love with.
You smiled as you saw a car pull in at the end of the driveway. It wasn’t like you were meeting his parents for the first time. Maybe it was the second time but things would turn out okay. They always did with Jensen.
“Hey,” said Jensen, ducking out of the backseat when the car parked near the garage.
“Howdy partner,” you said, Jensen’s parents and sister getting out as well. “Hi.”
“Nice to see you again, sweetie,” said his mom as you walked over to help with the bags. She gave you a hug and you got a nod from his sister.
“How’s the semester going?” you asked.
“Probably flunked my biology midterm but otherwise awesome,” she said. Jensen rolled his eyes behind her back and she scoffed. “Oh shut up Jenny.”
“Alright, nerd. Most people don’t consider an A- flunking by the way,” he said, handing you over a few bags. “Mac, get your stuff.”
“Are you ever going to relax?” she asked, rolling her eyes as she pulled out a duffel bag. “I cannot believe you date him.”
“He has his moments,” you said. “You may need to end up bunking with my little sister if that’s alright.”
“Ella and Anthony aren’t too much younger than you. I’m sure you three will all get along and find ways to annoy us,” said Jensen.
“Don’t challenge me, Jensen,” she said.
“Behave. You’re a guest,” said his father. He looked at you and nodded before heading towards the front door.
“He likes you,” said Jensen.
“He does not,” you said quietly. “He thinks I’m some stupid actor’s stupid daughter.”
“No, he doesn’t,” said Jensen. “I promise. I was super nervous around your dad at first and now we’re good friends.”
“You were also coworkers. Oh God this was a mistake,” you said.
“Hey, honey. If it is, I promise we can runaway and stay in a hotel room for the weekend, okay?” he said. He kissed your temple and you nodded, helping carry some bags over to the front door where his family was waiting.
“Guys, they’re here,” you called, stepping inside and leading the way for them.
“Hi!” said your mom, coming around the corner from the kitchen quickly. “I’m Dani, Y/N’s mom.”
“You look like her older sister,” mumbled Mackenzie. Jensen elbowed her in the ribs and shot her a dirty look.
“Ah. Yours are like ours I see,” said your mom.
“You should see them when the oldest is with them,” said Jensen’s mom. She gave your mom a hug, Jensen’s dad giving her a friendly smile. “This is Alan. I’m Donna and this is our youngest Mackenzie.”
“Hi,” said your mom, your dad walking in with your siblings in tow. “This is-“
“He’s the guy!” said Mac, whacking Jensen on the arm. “That guy that’s in that movie you were obsessed with when I was little.”
“Aw, I’m flattered Jensen,” teased Ethan.
“I hate you, Mac,” said Jensen, your dad chuckling.
“Well I’m Ethan and these are our other kiddos, Anthony and then Ella,” he said.
“You’re kinda young if you don’t mind me saying. Sport,” said Alan. You cocked your head, your dad smirking.
“I always knew that Jensen looked familiar but could never quite figure it out. Alan Ackles. You scared the crap out of me that day,” he said.
“You gotta tease the rookies. I hear Jensen’s gotten plenty of that,” he said.
“Um, do you two know each other?” you asked.
“Not really but we worked together once, way back on a local commercial in Dallas. It was my very first acting job before I moved to LA. I must have been seventeen years old,” said your dad, shaking Alan’s hand.
“I wasn’t that old, probably the kids age or just a hair older,” he said. “Obviously that acting thing worked out for you.”
“Eh, just a little,” said your dad. “Come in. Y/N, bring the bags up to the guest room.”
“And you thought they wouldn’t like each other,” hummed Jensen as your parents headed off together.
“You did too!” you said. You spun around and Jensen’s sister was staring at him, your siblings doing the same. “Why don’t you guys hang out with Mac while we bring this stuff up? Maybe show her around.”
You left before they could say anything, urging Jensen to follow you.
“I totally was not expecting this,” said Jensen. “It’s so different than your parents house.”
“Truth be told I think we all prefer this one,” you said. “But you know, gotta have the house if you’re Ethan Y/L/N.”
“I can’t believe our dads worked together, even if just for a day once,” he said.
“Maybe this was meant to be,” you said. Jensen grabbed your waist and kissed you, making you giggle and nearly fall backwards.
“I think we both know the answer to that,” he said, grabbing you tight. “Falling for me again?”
“Such a loser,” you said, popping into a bedroom and setting down most of the bags. You walked farther down the hall and set Mackenzie’s down in Ella’s before pulling Jensen to the end and into your own.
“Wow,” he said, dropping his bag by the door as he stepped inside. “I gotta admit, I think you got the best bedroom.”
“First dibs has its perks,” you said. Jensen walked over to the window, staring out at the rolling wheat field far out behind the house and trees.
“Sometimes I really forget how you grew up.”
“Money isn’t everything. Ask my dad and you know he’d give all of this up in a heartbeat to have not have gone through what he did. What I did. What everyone did with the car accident,” you said. You stopped beside him, Jensen lacing your fingers together.
“Y/N. I don’t mean the bedroom or the houses. I know you didn’t get what most of us do but your dad did a good job of trying to give that to you, a normal life,” he said. “Also, you have a Nintendo 64 over there that we are totally taking home with us.”
“We’ll have to see if we can sneak it out,” you said, resting your head against his shoulder. “Your parents don’t know that my mom isn’t my birth mom, do they.”
“If they have a problem with your family, I think they’re just going to have to get over it,” he said. “Why’re you so scared, Y/N? I get being nervous and wanting everyone to get along. I’m exactly that way right now too.”
“Because if there was a problem, I would never want anything to come between you and your family. I would never ask you to pick me over them,” you said.
“Y/N.”
“Because you make me happy,” you said, lifting your head to look at him, cautious green eyes looking back. “I think it would rip me apart for good if I screwed this up.”
“I love my family Y/N. I love your family. But if they ever put me in a position to choose them or you, then they aren’t the people I love. Where’s this really coming from?” he asked.
“My parents got along really well with Logan’s,” you said quietly. “They all clicked instantly. Your dad doesn’t...I don’t think he approves of me but he’s too polite to say it.”
“You are by and far the best girlfriend I’ve introduced to them. Pretty. Smart. Badass. Did I mention pretty?” he said, kissing your cheek. “You met them for three hours once when he had a cold. You are worrying over nothing. I promise.”
“Well those three seem to be thick as thieves,” said your mom as she came outside to the back patio after dinner, carrying a few drinks. You glanced inside to the kitchen, your brother and sister chatting up a storm with Mackenzie at the counter.
“To think she didn’t even want to come,” said Donna. You watched your dad put another log on the fire, your mom handing you a beer. You nodded and took a sip, Jensen rubbing his hand up and down your back. “Everything alright, Y/N? You’ve been quiet tonight.”
“Probably just jet lagged,” said your dad. “Kiddo’s been working on editing like crazy lately now that we’re wrapped.”
“What are you doing in the meantime Jensen?” asked his dad.
“Kind of relaxing. Trying to learn how to cook. I can only make chicken casserole for Y/N so many times,” said Jensen with a smile.
“It’s yummy,” you said, taking another sip.
“The movie comes out in about six months. We can be sure to snag you guys some tickets for the premiere,” said your dad.
“Jensen already invited us but unfortunately that’s exactly when we’re supposed to be on a cruise for a few weeks. He wouldn’t let us skip for it,” said Donna.
“Eh, you guys can come to the next one,” said Jensen. “We’re set to start the second movie not long after the first comes out.”
“I just picked up the prequel book. Oh, I feel so sorry for poor Lyle,” she said. “Do you mind if I ask how you came up with him, Y/N?”
“Overactive imagination,” you said with a smile.
“It was good,” said Alan, your head turning towards him. “The first book. I liked it.”
“Thanks,” you said, Jensen giving you a smirk.
“You know what we need? S’mores,” said your mom. “Jay. Hm?”
“Sure thing, Dani,” said Jensen, standing and heading back inside with her. Donna got up to help and soon it was quiet with just the three of you out there, your dad glancing to you.
“You know Dani isn’t Y/N’s biological mother,” said your dad.
“I didn’t realize you were married before,” said Alan.
“I wasn’t. Y/N wasn’t exactly planned. Her birth mother died in a car accident and they had to deliver early,” said your dad. You stared at him, your dad ignoring it. “I was only eighteen when this happened. I know we’re a little younger than you probably were anticipating.”
“She seemed to turn out just fine,” he said. “Jensen never shuts up about her.”
You gripped your bottle, your dad biting his bottom lip.
“I see where she gets it from,” chuckled Alan. “The both of you are so nervous around me for some reason.”
“I think your son is very important to my daughter,” said your dad.
“I think your daughter is very important to my son. Not sure what the issue is there,” said Alan.
“There’s not an issue,” you said. You stood up and walked away, over to the pool before sticking your feet in the warm water.
You felt a presence behind you and sighed.
“Dad-“
“Not your dad, kid,” said Alan, taking a seat beside you. You watched the water while he rolled up his pants and stuck his feet in, a quiet sound leaving him. “I will admit I was a bit grumpy last month when we met. It had nothing to do with you, Y/N.”
“Why do I feel like you don’t like me then?”
“Maybe because you’re like Jensen in a way, which explains why you fit together so well. Maybe it’s why this seems strange, because part of him is like me too,” he said.
“You didn’t answer the question.”
“Honestly, maybe it’s because my son seems like himself again and we couldn’t do that. Your family did. Maybe I’m a little jealous of that,” he said.
“My family didn’t do anything.”
“You did.”
You shrugged and took a sip of your beer, his dad smiling.
“Jay ever tell you he wants to try making beer sometime?”
“Once. Told me you nearly tore him out a new one when he tried it in your backyard,” you said.
“Yeah, well. Parents aren’t perfect,” he said. “Maybe we don’t have the opportunity to get to know each other like Jensen did with your family but we do want to know you. We don’t disapprove by the way.”
You turned your head and he shrugged.
“Jensen worries.”
“I’ve noticed,” you said. “This is going to sound a certain way so don’t take it that way please. I just-“
“You don’t have to justify the way you feel,” he said. You nodded, wiggling your toes in the water. “He loves you and we will too. Give me some time is all.”
“I can understand why he is the way he is,” you said with a smile.
“A dork?” he teased. “He gets that from his mom.”
“Sure he does,” you said. He bumped your shoulder and you gave him a smile. “The whole single dad, accident baby doesn’t bother you?”
“Don’t ever refer to yourself as an accident. Also, no it doesn’t. Is it unconventional? Yes. But all I care about is that my children are happy. So don’t worry about the other stuff, alright?”
“I’ll try,” you said. It was quiet for a moment, his dad sitting back.
“You know he calls once a week to check in. He spends most of that time talking about you,” he said. “It’s pretty adorable to be honest. Turns into a little boy all over again.”
“He is pretty adorable,” you said.
“Well I know you are incredibly busy at the moment but some quiet weekend, come visit. We’d like it,” he said.
“We will,” you said. There was a rustling behind you and you looked up, Jensen carrying a plate with two s’mores on it.
“You guys want some?” he asked, mouthful of his own.
“Sure,” you said. You took a bite and gave him a thumbs up.
“Everything good?”
“Yeah,” said his dad. “I think we’re all good now.”
“Good morning,” you said, smiling as your parents headed into the kitchen. Your mom raised an eyebrow as your dad took a cup of coffee Jensen handed him. “What?”
“She’s awake. Before us. I don’t think she’s ever willingly done that,” she said. Your dad put a hand on your head and you swatted it away.
“I don’t feel a fever,” he said.
“We wanted to be kind children and make our parents breakfast,” said Jensen over his shoulder as he got out some butter.
“Ah. I see they’ve forgotten we’re going to brunch later,” said your mom. You threw your head back and put the eggs back in the fridge.
“Going back to bed?” asked your dad.
“Yup,” you said, grabbing Jensen’s hand and pulling him upstairs with you. He yawned as you wandered back to your bedroom, smiling when you fell back on the mattress. “More sleep. My favorite.”
“Or we could have morning sex and then go back to bed,” he murmured. “Both your favorites.”
“You want to do it with both our parents in the house? Jensen Ackles. I didn’t realize you were such a bad boy,” you said, rolling over onto your back.
“Only for you,” he teased, locking your bedroom door.
“You have a streak hidden in you. Don’t deny it,” you said.
“Oh, I’m not,” he said, rolling back onto the bed, sliding his hand up your shirt. “I even came prepared.”
“That’s my boy,” you said, stretching your arms up, letting him push the shirt off of you.
“You get rid of those pesky clothes and I’ll be right back.”
He kissed your cheek and hopped up, going to his bag and digging around. You were lazy in taking off your shorts and underwear, tossing your bra on the floor in time for him to come back with nothing but a condom on.
“I would like to try something if you’re up for it,” he said. You sat up with a sleepy smile and nodded. He gave you a lazy kiss before he sat back down, grabbing your waist and pulling you around to the middle of the bed, settling in behind you.
“What are you up to?” you asked.
“Your dresser here has a mirror,” he said, your eyes flickering across to the other side of the room. You saw yourself naked, Jensen snaking a hand down to your folds and slowly rubbing you. “I want you to see how absolutely fucking hot you are when you get fucked.”
“Jay,” you said, turning your head away.
“Please?” he hummed.
“I’m not going to get in the mood by looking at myself.”
“Looking at you naked gets me in the mood all the time,” he said, kissing your neck. You rolled your eyes but looked ahead, watching his free arm cross your waist and press you back against his chest. His arm’s looked larger than normal and you noticed the muscles flexing in his shoulders, the strong thighs that were moving the two of you to sit up. You sat back on your heels, Jensen rutting his cock against your back before pulling you up and settling you over his cock. You lowered yourself down, fluttering your eyes shut.
He snapped his hips back and rocked into you, eyes flashing open and catching his own in the mirror behind you. In the mirror, you started to ride him, Jensen meeting you with every roll of your hips.
“Look at my cock, fuck looks like it barely fits,” said Jensen. Your eyes went down and you watched yourself lift up him, nearly all the way before slamming down.
“Okay. That is pretty hot,” you said, Jensen chuckling as he kissed your jaw. “Fuck. You’re so fucking strong. Shit, Jay.”
“Feels like you’re milking my cock. How are you so tight?” he panted against your skin, warm air hitting your face.
“Because of your big cock,” you whispered, moving your arms behind you to hold onto him, Jensen plowing in harder. You’d never noticed how your own body bowed and arched before, never noticed muscles in your thighs working hard, never noticed the light blush that covered your skin as you got closer to an orgasm. “Harder.”
He tightened his grip and rubbed over your clit, fucking up into you, nailing your g-spot.
You grabbed his ass and he did it again, your head knocking back onto his shoulder. Your whole body tensed as you came, your face soft as you bit your bottom lip, Jensen growling into your neck to hide his grunts as he followed quickly after. With a quiet laugh you let go of him, Jensen pulling you to fall back straight on his chest, rolling you to his side.
“The only thing that could have made that better was seeing your ass too,” you said.
“You can look at my ass anytime you want,” he said, shakily getting to his feet and tossing the condom in the trashcan.
“Uh oh,” you giggled, spotting the red marks covering the small of his back and his creamy cheeks. “I think I might have given you a few new bruises.”
“Please mark me up,” he hummed, sliding back into bed under the covers, laying his arm over your waist. “Makes me feel like yours.”
“God you are too attractive,” you said, kissing his nose, Jensen nuzzling closer. “Love you.”
“Love you too, honey,” he said. You shut your eyes, ready to fall back asleep when your phone buzzed, a text from AJ coming in. “Work again?”
“Premiere date got moved up a week,” you said, tossing the phone back down. “No big deal.”
“I can’t wait to walk down a red carpet with the hottest director, writer, actor there ever was and know that she picked me,” he said.
“I would prefer not to go,” you said. Jensen nipped at your bottom lip and you laughed. “But I’ll go as your date.”
“Score one for Ackles,” he said. You kissed him quickly, Jensen closing his eyes. “Sleep?”
“You read my mind, fan boy.”

New Family Members
A/N – It’s National Cat Day in Canada (August 8, as a start to write this); it’s about cats, I don’t care if I live in the USA (our National Cat Day is October 29, you may see more cats then, too). I received an anonymous request to use the prompt Aw did I hurt your wittle feelings. Thanks to @oofchoices for pre-reading. My masterlist is here.
Disclaimer: Characters belong to PB
Warnings: Mostly cute fluffy, but also animal cruelty
Series/Pairing and characters : Open Heart - Ethan x f!MC (Charley Valentine); Sienna
Word count: 1,172
“I’m glad your boyfriend had to work today. We never get to just hang out anymore.” Sienna linked her arm with Charley’s as they left the diner.
“I’m sorry! I don’t spend enough time at home anymore! I’ll stay there more.”
Sienna laughed. “It’s fine. We’re all busy and we see you at the hospital. Except for Aurora, but she’s always at her hospital, too.”
“I’m glad the two of us have today. And I’m glad you were able to come over here for breakfast. Ethan and I love that diner. He’s lived right across the street from it for five years and never set foot in it until last month, just because I wanted to try it. Now we go once a week for breakfast.”
Sienna smiled at her friend. “You're good for him, you know.” Charley shook her head, about to disagree, when Sienna continued. “He’s good for you, too.”
Charley did agree that that was probably true.
“What other neighborhood gems are here for you to show me?” Sienna asked. “Charley?”
“Did that bag move?”
“Huh?”
Charley rushed into the street, causing a car to slam on its brakes and honk. She grabbed a plastic bag out of the path of the car and hurried back to the sidewalk.
“Did you seriously just run in front of a car to grab a bag? It’s already been run over.”
“No, it was in the center lane, no tire hit it. I saw it move.” Charley knelt down to untie the knot.
“It was probably just the wind.”
Once the bag was open, they found two calico kittens. “Sienna, call Danny’s cousin, Kima, please.”
~*~*~*~*~*~
Ethan opened the door to his apartment and was greeted by Charley handing him a drink and wrapping him in a hug.
“What happened?”
Charley took a half step back, her arms still around Ethan’s neck. “Why did you think something happened?”
“You are being affectionate.”
Charley tipped her head to the side, she ran her tongue over her bottom lip. “Are you saying I’m not normally affectionate?”
“You’re affectionate, but not normally-” Ethan jerked his head to the right. “What was that?” He pulled away from her and walked to the living room. He saw something dart under the sofa.
“That would be either Honey or Nutmeg.”
Ethan whirled around to face her. “What, pray tell, are  Honey and Nutmeg?” When she looked at the ground, Ethan grasped her chin and lifted her face so she was looking at him. “Explain”
“They’re two calico kittens that I brought home.”
“When did we discuss getting a cat, much less two? This is the most irresponsible thing you could have done! Do you know why Jenner lives with my dad? I don’t have the time to deal with a dog! Do you ever think things through?”
Ethan walked away from her down the hall and she heard the bedroom door slam behind him. Charley sat on the floor and leaned under the sofa. She reached her hand under and called to the kitten she saw. It came to her and she picked it up. The kitten started to purr and snuggled under her chin. Charley pulled the kitten back to see who it was. The darker brown color let her know that it was Nutmeg. “Let’s find your sister.”
Charley walked throughout the apartment looking for Honey. The whole time she was talking to Nutmeg. “Where did your sister go, hmmm? She’s found a good hiding place, didn’t she? I had a cat when I was at home and she liked to hide on top of the refrigerator. I know Honey can’t do that because there isn’t any space here, is there, sweetie.”
After she looked in the laundry room, even climbing on top of the washer to look behind the appliances, Charley gave up. “I guess I need to go beg Ethan for help.”
Nutmeg meowed at her. “Don’t be scared of him. I know he yelled, but it’s me he’s mad at. He’s also a real softy at heart. You and your sister are probably going to live with Sienna. She has lots of roommates. There’s Jackie and Aurora and Elijah. I’m there, too, sometimes. We also have a box turtle, a chinchilla, and a fennec fox. Wherever you live you’ll be very happy.”
Charley hesitated at the bedroom door and got an idea. She opened the linen closet and pulled out a white pillowcase. She opened the bedroom door and thrust her hand holding the pillowcase through the opening. “I have a white flag; I’m surrendering. Can I come in, please?”
“Come in,” Ethan’s voice called quietly.
Charley walked over to the bed, still cuddling a kitten. “We-, I mean I have a problem. I’ve lost a kitten,” she began, crawling onto the bed. Nutmeg and I have been looking for Honey everywhere and…”
Her voice trailed off as Ethan opened his sweater to reveal Honey sound asleep on his chest. Charley leaned against his shoulder and Nutmeg crawled over their arms to see her sister.
“How do you tell them apart?”
“Nutmeg is a darker brown and her nose is part pink and part black. Honey’s brown is a little blonder. Her nose is also all black, since she has black all around her nose.”
Ethan looked at her. “What made you decide to bring home two cats today?”
Charley could tell he wasn’t as mad. She leaned over and kissed his cheek. “Aw did I hurt your wittle feelings by not talking to you?” She sat up and looked at him. “Someone threw them in the street. Just tied them up in a plastic bag and dropped them in the middle of the road. Sienna and I found them this morning and we took them to Danny’s cousin Kima.”
She reached over to pet Honey. “Sienna and I talked about it. I’m a cat person and wanted a cat. If you don’t want a cat-”
“Or two.” Ethan corrected.
“-or two, we can move them over with my roommates. And if Sienna can’t convince the others, Kima said they wouldn’t have any trouble placing them with a new home.”
“As someone who has never had a cat, what do I need to know? If we’re going to keep them.”
“Really?”
“Maybe. Convince me.”
“Unlike dogs, they don’t need to be walked. If there are two of them,” Charley indicated the two, “they keep each other company.”
“How do they know to use a litter box? I don’t want them going to the bathroom where they aren’t supposed to.”
“Honestly? Sometimes they miss. It’s generally easier to train a kitten to use a litter box. In fact, the mama cat will generally train them if they have access to a box.”
Charley reached over and picked up Honey. “We know they were around at least one person. They didn’t tie themselves in a bag.”
“Cat litter is your responsibility.” Both kittens were on his chest and he scratched both of them. “We’ll try this.”

Lemons (G.D.)
Summary: The boy down the street seems as sweet as sugar, helping his little brother with practicing sports, making a lemonade stand, etc. when it turns out he’s really as sour as lemonade.

     The sun was out at full force, beating heat down on to the bodies of those outside of their houses and forcing the ones inside to blast the A/C, but the three boys down the street weren’t afraid of any heat. Your family had been friends with the Dolan Family since you were born, so you were very familiar with them always being outside which almost always included dragging you along with them.
     Today, the boys were selling lemonade. Every year, Grayson, Ethan, and their little brother Charlie made fresh lemonade and sold it for 25 cents to make some money. And every year, you were dragged into helping. That’s why you were making your way down to their house now, they had run out of sugar and you were bringing them a fresh bag. You walked up to them and placed the sugar down on the small table, noticing Ethan wasn’t there with them but just figuring he was out getting something or hanging out with his girlfriend.
     “Y/N! You’re a lifesaver! Thank you so much!” Grayson exclaimed, running around the table to hug you.
     “Yeah, yeah. You’re welcome.” you laugh. “Are you guys gonna need any more help?”
     “If you wouldn’t mind, I think we need a pretty girl to help sell our product. Maybe you could dance around in that bikini of yours or something to attract all the guys over here.” Grayson winks and pokes your sides.
   The two of you had always been flirty, teasing each other here and there but it was never anything serious at least from his side. Of course, as every story with a girl and a neighbor boy goes, you had liked him when you both turned 13 (puberty had hit him early) but you were sure he didn’t feel the same way. Why, you may ask? Well he was always talking about other girls, explaining all the things he did with them (although to be honest he was quite vanilla which wasn’t your favorite but it wasn’t a turn off), and was always pointing out how hot a girl was when you were out together. You always just laughed, listening to him like the best friend you were but inside there was a small seed of jealousy that grew and grew as he talked. Sometimes you would even have to step away for a minute, going to the bathroom or something just so you wouldn’t confess your feelings right then and there.
“Hahaha.” You dryly laughed. “I’m not gonna be your eye candy.”
 “Y/N, we’re never going to sell any of this lemonade! We need something” Charlie sighs.
“Fine. I’ll help. But I’m keeping my clothes on.” You glare at Grayson and he holds up his hand in fake innocence before backing away and going inside the house, saying he’ll be right back.
“Ya know Charlie, your brother can be really annoying sometimes. I don’t know how you live with him.” You laugh, half joking.
“Oh shush, I know you like him. And not just as a friend, you like like him. I may be ten years old but even I can tell.” He says blatantly.
   Your face goes red as you look at the boy. How did he know? Is it really that obvious? You had tried to keep it as much of a secret as you could, only telling your best friend.
“I do not.” You say sternly. “He’s my best friend I can’t like him.”
“Doesn’t mean you don’t.” He says in a sing-song way.
“Oh shut up Charlie. Don’t say anything to Grayson, okay?” Your entire face has blushed red at this point.
“Don’t worry I’m not a snitch. Plus, like you said, he’s annoying so I don’t wanna tell him.” Charlie laughs.
 Just then, Grayson walks back out from the house with paper and markers.
“What are you two laughing about? Making secret plans without me?” He laughs and ruffles Charlie’s hair.
“Yeah totally Gray, we’re gonna build a bigger better lemonade stand without you.” You smile.
“I knew it.” He says jokingly. You smile back at him before he starts talking again. “So, I brought markers and paper so we can make posters and hang them around the neighborhood.”
“Sounds good.” You look at Charlie. “Good?” He nods in reply.
The three of you work on posters until it’s almost dark, then ride around in Grayson’s Bronco and tape them up on random lamp posts and any other place they’ll stick. After, you ride back to his house.
“Okay, it’s actually dark now. I gotta head home before my parents kill me for leaving them all day.” You laugh.
“Wait, I’ll walk you. They won’t mind where you were if they know you were with me.” He smiles.
  He tells Charlie that he’ll be back and begins his walk to your house, which is only down the street by about four houses. On the way there, the two of you talk about random things like how Charlie is so hopeful for enough money to buy this new remote control car that he’s been wanting. The two of you finally reach your door, where he knocks. Your mom answers the door, immediately smiling upon seeing Grayson with you.
“Aw, hi Grayson sweetie. How’s your mom doing?” Your mom smiles.
  “She’s great Mrs. Y/L/N. Thank you for asking. I just came by to let you know that Y/N has been helping Charlie and me with the lemonade stand all day.” He gives a sweet smile that displayed the most innocence anyone could have ever seen.
“Oh, of course honey you don’t need to tell me anything. As long as she was with you I don’t care what you do.” She laughs.
Grayson elbows you in the side and winks. You walk in through the door that your mom has held open and say goodbye to Grayson.
  “Well, Y/N, don’t just leave him like that. Why don’t you come in for something to drink Grayson. You look thirsty.” Your mom says more of a statement than a question.
  “Oh no, it’s okay. I’m gonna head home, I promised Charlie I’d play with him tonight.” Grayson politely declines. “Bye Mrs. Y/L/N and bye Y/N see you tomorrow.”
Your mom closes the door as Grayson walks away.
“Well, isn’t he a nice boy. Why can’t you be as nice as he always is?” She asks.
“What do you mean?” Confusion laces your voice.
“Oh sweetie I’m just kidding. You and Grayson are both very nice young adults.” She presses a kiss against your forehead. “Now go to bed, it’s late.”
  You obey her orders and go to your bedroom upstairs, closing the door and gently locking it behind you so that no one would hear the click of the lock. Your bed is perfectly made from this morning before you left to help Grayson and you grab your phone from your pocket, placing it on your nightstand before taking off your clothes to put on pajamas.
  Suddenly, a tap was at the window and you grabbed your big shirt to press against your bare chest before opening the curtains. It was Grayson, so you opened the window.
“Grayson!? What are you doing here?” Your words exited your mouth in a sort of whisper scream as to not alert your parents.
  “I was bored. Remember when I’d always do this? What were we? Like ten?” He laughs, crawling into the window that you had just opened. You turned around, the shirt still pressed against your chest.
“Ewww Y/N. Are you naked?” He jokes around like a child. You turn around and punch him in the arm. He pretends to die, dramatically falling to his knees before laying on the floor.
“Oh no, I killed him.” You say in a monotone voice.
“Maybe a kiss will bring him back to life.” Grayson fake coughs.
“Haha Grayson, very funny. Get up and turn around so I can put my clothes on.” You blush slightly at the idea of a kiss but know that he’s joking.
  “Okay fine, you’re no fun.” He stands up and turns back towards the window as you put your shirt on. You walk to your bed and sit down, tapping Grayson to let him know you’re done. He sits down next to you and turns his head towards your ear.
“Hey, guess what?” He whispers.
“Hm?” The blush returns to your face.
“I’m pretty sure I saw your boob in the reflection of the window Mrs. No Bra.” He laughs as you punch him in the arm.
“Grayso-on” You drag out the ‘o’ in his name to show your disdain, hitting his arm over and over again. “You’re such a weirdo.”
He simply laughs and grabs your hand to stop you before pushing you down, pinning your hands above your head.
“Can’t hit me now, can ya?” He teases. You try to wriggle free but his grip holds tight.
“Gray.” You whine, dragging it out. After that he quickly moves off of you, a red hue on his face.
You sit back up and rub your wrists slightly, clenching your thighs together because the action had, embarrassingly enough, got you slightly turned on.
“Did I hurt you Y/N? I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to.” He frantically apologizes, taking your wrists into his hands and rubbing them for you.
“No Grayson it’s fine. Just, go please.” Your eyes stay focused on the ground as you talk, not wanting to make eye contact in fear of seeing the disappointed look in his eyes.
“Yeah. Okay, sorry again.” He quietly slips out of the window and into the night, returning back to his own home.
You laid down in your bed, not bothering to put on any blankets since it was so hot, and thought about the night. He had to be joking about everything right? He didn’t understand what he was doing. Right?
You sighed.
Life with Grayson Dolan was tough and it wasn’t going to get any easier.
Unless you told him how you really feel.

The Pregnancy, Part Two
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x Casey Valentine (F!MC)

=====================
Six months had passed since Casey and Ethan discovered she was pregnant, and she was now in her last trimester. She still wanted to go to work so she had something to do and so that if she went into labor she was already in the hospital. Of course, Ethan got less and less enthusiastic about her going to work, now a few more months that passed. He insisted that she stay home and look after herself, to let him work a little overtime and do the heavy grocery shopping. But Casey, being the stubborn woman she is, dug her heels in saying a firm no, continuing to go to work.
One lunch break, Casey and Ethan were sitting outside round the fountain, sharing a pizza and some fries, when Sienna came over. "Hey. Could I sit with you guys?" she squeaked out quietly, "Of course" Ethan smiled as Casey took another bite of her pizza slice, "Want a piece?" Casey asked as she held out the box to her friend. "No thank you. I'm okay. I've already eaten." She said politely, hoping her lie went undetected, as she took a seat next to Casey. "Do I still smell of blood and bile?" Ethan joked, "Honey. if you smelt of that I would not even be near you. Sienna just doesn't like getting in the middle of people" Casey explained jokingly. Sienna chuckled at the sass levels in Casey's reply, and the three spent the rest of their lunch break together. Late that afternoon, Ethan stopped by Casey's floor to collect the grocery list and her dinner order as he was finishing early, and she had to work late. "oooo someone's coming" a nurse teased Casey, as she walked away from the nurses station with her files, to give the two privacy. "Hey." Ethan smiled as he greeted her with a kiss leaning over the nurses station. "hey" Casey smiled back, as the phone rang. "one moment" she smiled and answered the phone, "Hello, Francis Ward, Dr. Casey Ramsey speaking, how may I help? ... uh-huh, okay. ... Could you hold for just one moment and I'll check that for you." she answered as she put the phone on hold "Janet!" she called out to a passing nurse, who stopped in her tracks and turned coming over to the station "yeah?" she asked, sounding tired. "I've got Dr. Rasheen on the phone calling from OR recovery 4, asking if we have any free beds on the ward for a patient that has just woken up." Casey explained. Janet checked the chart, "mmmmmmm, yep. We have room 783 free." She smiled at Casey, who picked the phone back up. "Hello, Dr. Rasheen? ... yes, we have 1 room free. Could I get the patients name please? .... Holly Barkermann. Alright, we'll have that ready for arrival in the next few minutes okay? .... okay, Thank You. B-Bye" she chimed happily as she hung up the call. After letting out a deepened sigh, Casey leant back in her chair and looked up at Ethan who smiled back at her. "Could I have the lists?" He asked sweetly. Casey sat up and pulled them out of her pocket and passed them to him. He looked at her dinner request and smiled. "I'll pick it up later on the way to get you from work sweetie" He grinned as he looked back up at her. "Thanks baby. I'll see you later okay?" she replied. Ethan nodded and gave her one last kiss before heading off the do the grocery shopping and go home.
That night Casey text Ethan.
Casey: Hey babe! Finishing up here in about 45 minutes!!
Ethan:
Casey: Babe???
Casey: Bubs?
Casey: HELLO! ETHAN RAMSEY! ARE YOU THERE?! T-MINUS 45!!"
Ethan: Can't a man poop in peace? xD
Casey: ... sorryyyy :/
Ethan xD. It's okay. I'll see you soon
Casey: Can you bring Bleu? or is he sleeping??
Ethan: Sleeping. Sorry honey :(
Casey: It's alright. I'll see you in a bit. Don't forget our dinner!!"
Ethan: I won't don't worry :D. Love you!! <3
Casey: Love you too bubba :* <3
After sending the text messages, Casey stuffed her phone back into her pocket and got back to work. It was nighttime so everything was slower paced. She got bored and decided to try and balance a pencil on the tip of her nose because she still hadn't been able to complete that. She was so occupied by it that she didn't hear someone approach the desk. "Ahem." the voice said as the person it belonged to clear their throat. Casey jumped, dropping the pencil then pouting at it "awww! I was so close!" she quietly exclaimed as she looked up to see who it was. "Oh, hey Esme!" she chirped, Esme smiled. "I'm here to take over. Your husband's downstairs, in the main lobby." she told her. Casey checked the clock on the wall. "Oh my gosh. Was I just trying to balance a pencil on the tip of my nose for 45 minutes?" she asked, flushing a deep red, fully embarrassed. "I guess so." Esme chuckled as she came round the desk to switch places with Casey. "Well.... see you Saturday I guess." Casey said to Esme, giving her a hug before grabbing her belongings, checking out and making her way downstairs. As she stepped out of the elevator, she let out a massive sigh and took her tag off over her head, tucking it inside her bag. "Busy shift?" Ethan asked, as he walked over to her and greeted her with a hug. She gripped onto him tightly. "ugghhhh, I missed youuuuu" she whined as she crushed Ethan with a hug. Ethan chuckled as he returned his wife's hug, "I missed you too munchkin" he mumbled, Casey pulled back and looked at him strangely, "Munchkin?" she asked with a confused frown, as she laced her fingers with his. "I was browsing words on that Urban Dictionary site you're always going on about. Munchkin can be used as a term of endearment for one's partner who is playful and mischievous" He explained as they walked to the car hand in hand. "Oh...? So you're saying I'm playful and mischievous now, are you?" Casey teased as they got into the car, Ethan just chuckled as he gave her a knowing look. As Ethan drove them home, Casey sat in the passenger seat chowing down on her fries and gulping down her drink, "Hungry? Ethan smiled. Casey nodded eagerly as she shoved more fries in her mouth, "bank oo bor biss" she grinned. Soon they pulled up on the drive and went inside, Bleu greeting them straight away by barking as soon as they opened the door, "Ugh. My feet are so sooorrrreeeee" Casey whined as she took off her shoes and jacket, she then squealed in delighted surprise as Ethan lifted her up and carried her to their room, content concentration on his face the entire time. I'll go grab us some soda, water and snacks then we can binge whatever it is you wish to watch tonight, okay?" Ethan smiled as he pressed a tender loving kiss to Casey's forehead before leaving the room and heading downstairs to the kitchen, and they spent the night cuddled up in bed doing exactly what Ethan said they would, and fell asleep happy and content, ready for the next day and what it would bring them. In the middle of the night Casey woke up feeling around for Ethan and groaned slightly when she couldn't feel him. She slowly opened her eyes and spotted him sitting at his desk across the room with a creased brow as he stared at his screen, "Ethan?" she whispered, and he snapped his head towards the bed, "What's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked as he swiveled round in his chair. She pouted and held her hand out towards him, he sighed and walked over to their bed, sitting next to her and taking her hand in his, "Is this case keeping you up again?" she asked as she placed her head on his leg. He instinctively started stroking her hair, "mmm" he mumbled staring blankly ahead.
Casey looked up at him an noticed the bags under his eyes and looked at the clock on their bedside table, seeing it read 3:47am, "Honey. Your shift starts in an hour and 13 minutes. Come to bed and try to get some sleep. Please" she begged quietly, looking up at him. Ethan exhaled heavily through his nostrils and got up. "Just let me save this document and I'll come to bed" he said as he sat back in his office chair and spun back so he was facing his screen, sliding his glasses back on his face. "They really enhance your beauty, you know?" Casey spoke out, Ethan just smiled at her comment, gently shaking his head as he saved the document and shut his computer down. About 45 minutes later, Casey was up with Ethan as he got ready for work, she was in the kitchen making his lunch. Ethan walked in a few minutes later, smelling like his heavenly self. He stood behind Casey and wrapped his arms round her stomach and rested his chin on her shoulder, pressing delicate kisses behind her ear and down her neck. "You don't have to be up doing this for me. I can make my own lunch you know." He said, his face and voice full of concern. Casey smiled at him with a look full of love that makes him realize there's no point in making it an issue because today is her day off before her last week working. She looked up at Ethan wistfully, "What?" he softly smiled back, "Nothing.... It's just... Are you sure that you're ready to be a father? Because when we done those scans when I was an intern. You said you didn't see it in your future. You weren't sure you could give them what they would need. And if you still aren't ready. We can put them for adoption. Or into foster care. Or to a same sex couple who wants children. I want you to be ready for this Ethan. I don't want you to feel like I'm forcing you into being a father by keeping this child." Casey rambled as she brought her hands to her stomach, cradling the child inside. Just as he opens his mouth to answer, Ethan's alarm goes off telling him it's time to leave for work.
Later in the day, around noon the doorbell rang. Casey answered it after looking through the peep hole, and greeted Tia and Bryce on the other side. "Hey! What're you guys doing here?!" she asked as she gave them both hugs and invited them inside. They walked in, Casey shut the door and they all made their way to the living room, taking various seats around the room in chairs and on couches. "Ethan caught us this morning and told us to bring you lunch." Tia said as they took their seats, "We brought both enough hot and cold food for all of us and we even brought some for Ethan to have later, he looked drained when we saw him." Bryce added. Casey smiled at her friends, "I'm not surprised. He was up half the night working on the case of Mr. Hopkins again." she informed them. They gave a knowing yet understanding look with a small nod. "Anyway. How's the hospital today?" Casey asked, as her and Tia dug into their food, Bryce walking off the get a fork. Tia swallowed her bite of food and smiled at Casey, "Busy as usual. Same old people shouting the same old things, cases that take only a few moments to solve. Although, there is this one case that's come in this morning and nobody can seem to work out what's going on with them. They have no genetic markers for anything, no test that has been run so far comes back with anything that could be used as a lead to do further tests. Bryce, as always says the simple solution is to cut them open. But I have to keep telling him, you can't randomly go cutting people open, with nothing supporting them needing and operation. You know?" She tells Casey as Bryce walks back into the room. "Your dog is seriously so adorable!" Bryce exclaims as he sits back down. Casey smiles and eats more of her food. The three talk and eat until it's time for Bryce and Tia to head back to work. Casey going back to binge watching Netflix series she needs to catch up on and drinking her herbal teas. Before she knows it, she hears Ethan's key go into the door and sits up as she hears him call out that he's home. "In here!" she calls back as she gets up so she can move to the couch and cuddle him.
He stops off at the kitchen first to get plates and cutlery for them to eat then walks into the living room placing the food, plates and cutlery onto the coffee table before sweeping Casey up into a massive bear hug, inhaling her perfume deeply. "I've missed you today." He mumbled into her neck, she smiled in response "I've missed you too." She mumbled back and they sat on the couch and talked about their days. "... and then the stupid woman tried to take off with a line in her arm and the machine still plugged into the wall. She didn't even grab the pole to wheel the machine with her as she walked. She just walked. Blood everywhere. It took about 10 minutes to get the bleeding under control. I have never witnessed something so daft in all my life." Ethan rambled, as Casey listened intently. Taking in every tone change in his voice as she ate quietly beside him. "So....... You're stressed?" Casey asked as he finished rambling. "hrm?" Ethan mumbled, Casey just chuckled and got up, heading to the bathroom.
Ethan followed and stood outside so they could continue talking. "When I say I missed you at work today. I meant it you know. I didn't have someone I could just walk up to and plop my head on their shoulder, and whine to. I don't know what you done to me rookie... but.. I feel love again now. I have friends. I can be friendly with others without feeling awkward. You're a blonde bombshell of sass. But you're my blonde bombshell of sass. My other half that I gave up searching for and accepted I was going to be a dog dad forever and die old, alone and miserable. Naveen was right. When you started at Edenbrook as an intern, I took my work way too seriously. And my ways were rubbing off on you. You were becoming a mini female version of me. But, somehow I knew you already were. You were serious about your work. You were serious about a lot. You got yourself in trouble for your patients because you care. You put everyone else's feelings before your own and you took time to get to know me, ask me how I was. I.... I'd not had anyone do that there for 10 years, because I was at the top of all the interns in my year as well. They quickly became envious, jealous, angry at me even. I couldn't understand why at the time, I was just an intern doing my best to make sure all my patients were happy, healthy and had the best care provided that they would need. I wasn't actively seeking out pissing them off. I was just being me. I thought it was my fault at first but then I realized, it's not my fault that my brain is on a different level to theirs. It wasn't my fault I worked and ticked differently. Performed my best when I worked on cases solo. When I wrote and published my book I didn't expect it to be such a huge hit. To influence the next generation of medicine and impact it in such a way. Then you walked into Edenbrook and shook everything up. Including me and my heart. You gave me the wake up call I needed, and I fell for you. I fell for you hard. In Miami all those years ago, I wanted you as much as you wanted me. Damn Casey, when I first stopped you in your tracks as you followed me to the new wing of the hospital. I wanted me taking you for coffee to be a date. But I was scared of the intricacy of it all. I was your boss. It would have been wrong. It was wrong. But somewhere along the line I stopped caring. I wanted... no, needed you. I needed to know what it was like to hold you. Kiss you. Dance and laugh with you. I needed to learn to love and open up my heart. I'd both needed and wanted to do that for years, but nobody caught my eye.. that was until I saw you. I'm here today pouring out my heart and emotions, but I want you to know I wouldn't be doing that if it wasn't for you. You went from rookie, to the owner of my heart. And now... well now you're going to be the mother of my child too. Well... children... I looked closer at your last scan, saw something that shocked me so grabbed a sonographer and they confirmed that.. we, we're having triplets Casey.... We haven't conceived just one child. We've conceived t-" He spoke, voice thick with emotion. The bathroom door opened, Casey looked up at him, a delicate smile on her face, with small tears running down her cheeks, "We're having triplets?" she asked softly, trying not to let her voice break as she reached out and rested her hand on Ethan's cheek, he leant into her touch and smiled as she gently stroked his stubble with her thumb. He nodded as his own tears fell from his eyes. "And I want to keep them. I'm ready to be a father to 3 of the most amazing kids I will ever have the pleasure of knowing. I-" He started to speak again but his voice broke. The purity and happiness if this moment shone and lit the whole house up. Some would say you could hear a chorus of angels if you listened close enough. The two stood in the hallway basking in their moment of happiness as Ethan's revelation set in. They cuddled and swayed together to the music in their heads. Neither feeling their current state of happiness ever before.
Soon, Casey spoke quietly not wanting to disturb the happy peace too much, "You mean it? You're ready for parenthood?" She asked as she looked up meeting Ethan's gaze. He nodded. "I'm ready." He answered quietly, pressing a kiss to her lips and then the two headed upstairs to shower and get ready for bed. The happiness still shining bright around them, they enjoyed the peace knowing soon, it would no longer exist for a while.

You can’t be my soulmate!
So, I kinda got a sugar rush when I was watching a tiktok compilation on youtube. And the idea of the first words but with multiple people popped in my head. So I decided to do a lil snippet. I may still have too much in my system but eehhhhhhh just makes my brain go zoom!
Warnings: Misgendering, manipulation, a mention of homophobia, mention of disownment
What are you laughing at hot topic? haunted each day that Virgil didn’t find his soulmate.
I love the new outfit caused Roman to switch up his attire everyday he could, but being a well-known actor made that a common sentence. Not a very common first sentence luckily.
Thanks, why wear those gloves? shamed Ethan every time they removed the aforementioned gloves.
___
I fiddled with my newest piercing, the third on my ears. I had gotten it less than two months ago, which had gotten dirty looks from my parents when i saw them. They had disowned me several years prior after learning I was gay, and trans. With a shit-eating grin, I flipped them a double bird. After they turned away in horror, I mounted my motorcycle and roared down the streets. I parked it behind the restaurant I worked at, locking it up on a special pole my brother had installed when I got hired.
“Reeem. Seen our parents lately?” I called as I shoved open the back door. He poked his head back, tilting his sunglasses down as I removed my patchwork hoodie.
“What parents. All you’ve got is me, babes. But, yes. I saw the people who birthed us a few days ago. I assume you ran across them and they disapproved?”
“Of what? My top surgery, new piercing? Answer to that one is all of it” I gave him a quick peck on the cheek and waved to one of his partners, Remus. I tapped my ear after tying on an apron. He pulled out his ear so I could see the blue pin in it. I shot a thumbs-up as I straightened my posture to wait on my first table. The first few hours passed in a blur of people I didn’t care to make note of.
“Excuse me, sir. I believe we have a reservation?” A weedy man flagged me down. I raised an eyebrow as I checked the schedule.
“Only one, and that’s for R. Roy. One sec-” I turned around and shouted over my shoulder “Re? What time was the reservation coming in?”
“That’s for m-”
“Uh, 3 o’clock or so” Remus surfaced, cutting off the man.
“I’m afraid I’m here on Mr. Roy’s beh-” The man tried again, this time I cut him off.
“That was twenty minutes ago. And where did Brit go? They were supposed to be doing this”
“EXCUSE ME. I AM HERE TO MAKE SURE MR. ROY’S TABLE IS READY” The man practically screamed, cutting off our conversation.
“Ah, I’m afraid he’ll have to come himself. We only answer to our customers” Re cut in, smiling wide.
“You and I both know that isn’t true you idiot” An almost-familiar voice accompanied the man himself.
“RoRo!” My sibling-in-law immediately brightened, scooping the smaller man into a hug. I chuckled behind one hand as the man made breathless protests. When he was at last released, my laughter got louder because it was the Roman Roy, and his appearance was all mused up now.
“I’m so sorry sir! I’ll go get your backup right now!” The assistant started to buzz nervously around the famous man, reminding me of a fly.
“No, no. I’ll be fine. This is a family place, so it’s not a big deal if I look a little messed up” He soothed, waving the man out the door. My laughter had not ceased by the time he had turned his attention to me.
“What are you laughing at hot topic?” I clasped my wrist as the words tattooed across it flared with heat. I shoved the discomfort down, offering my hand.
“Only your fly-like assistant. I’m Virgil Maelstrom. I’m the younger brother of that idiot’s partner. Or one of them at least” Mr Roy took my hand, shaking it briskly before following Remus to the table near the counter. I pulled down my sleeve to see a name written under my words. Roman. I was soulmates with ROMAN ROY the singer! How did I end up with him. Emile caught me staring numbly as new words appeared beneath the original ones.
“So. Finally met your soulmate?” They asked, a soft smile gracing their features. The smile that had caused my crush all those years ago. I had long grown out of it, but it still held power for their partners and me.
“One of them I guess. It’s Roman Roy” I whispered the last part, showing them my arm. They hummed thoughtfully, messaging their own wrist. Rem had told me about his own experiences all those years ago, but to actually experience it was insane.
“Well, why don’t you go tell him?”
“I...can’t. He didn’t react to me saying anything. It was like I was just another person, y’know?”
“Well, as your sibling-in-law, I say we’re gonna tell him. C’mon” They pulled me after them. I tried to make excuses, but the doctor was in full help mode. There would be no stopping them.
“Uh, what’s up honey?” Re asked, looking confused at the determined march.
“Roman. Good to see you. I found you a soulmate” They yanked me forward as they spoke, lighting up in pride.
“Look, I’m sorry. They’re just re-” I started babbling, reaching my exposed arm up, forgetting it was free for anyone to read.
“That’s my name” A soft voice interrupted me. Then a whoop from Re shattered the shock.
“Lil’ bro! Look at that, two siblings, two chance meetings in this restaurant!”
“What did you say your name was-ow!” He cried out as words burned into his arm. Only your fly-like assistant -Virgil appeared beneath another set of words.
“I- Virgil. I’m Virgil Maelstrom. And it looks like we have another soulmate” He scooted over, nodding for me to sit by him. I took it hesitatingly, watching as his hands started moving as Remus drew him back into a conversation. The shop was closed as Roman ate, and paid for the rest of us to join him. I buzzed nervously, playing my my earring once more. It wasn’t until we were cleaning up when Roman approached me.
“So. Uh. Virgil? Would you. Would you w-. Wouldyoubemyboyfriend?” He stammered, so at odds with how he was when in the public eye. I nodded mutely, and he swept me into a hug.
~Elsewhere, A few months later?~
My hands shook as I reached for the top shelf. I wobbled, leaning heavily on my cane. I snarled, planting my cane firmly and stretching for the stuff I had put up there.
“Sir, do you need help?” A woman approached me. I nodded, and she got it down easily.
“Thank you mx-”
“Oh, no. It’s Mrs. Smith. Have a good day sir!” She pranced off, ignoring my protest that I was not a ‘sir’. The fire that had scarred me burned away my gender too. I hoisted the bag onto my good shoulder and walked the opposite way. I did not look forward to returning to the place I was forced to call ‘home’.
“I’m home” I called, opening the door slowly. My girlfriend ran around the corner, beaming.
“Sweetie! I missed you so much! I was gonna be so sad if you hadn’t gotten back so soon!” She nearly yelled, her face dropping slightly at the thought.
“No, I wouldn’t. You know I try to be home as soon as I can” I offered a soothing smile. She took my cane and dragged me after her. She ignored my winces, her face screwed up so she couldn’t see. I kept as quiet as I could until the tv concert of Double R. I beamed as he sung, his current outfit looking so much better on him than the previous. When it had finished, my girlfriend was fast asleep on the opposite side of the couch. On a complete whim, I stood up and limped to the door. Taking my cane, I set out on a walk.
~~~~
“Ro, be careful. You’re easily recognizable” Virgil begged as I stepped outside.
“Don’t worry my storm cloud. I promise to not draw unnecessary attention-” He snorted so I revised my statement with a glare “-I promise not to draw any attention to myself. I’ll be back soon”
“Whatever. I’ll have my phone on me, so call if you get in trouble” He closed the door behind him. We had been dating for a few months, and they’d been the best (and safest, but don’t tell Virgil that) of my life. I couldn’t wait to meet the third member of our soulmate bond though. I drew the hood of my sweatshirt, borrowed from Virge, up over my head. I wandered aimlessly for a while before deciding to get some milkshakes before heading back. I bumped into someone as I was putting in my earbuds.
“Oh my gosh, are you ok?!” I asked them, and they waved me off.
“Yea whatever” They mumbled to the ground. I offered them a hand up. They took it and when meeting my eyes, just stared.
“I love the new outfit!” They finally blurted out. I let out a yelp as my arm suddenly got warm.
“Thanks! I uh, I think you should know that you may be my second soulmate?” I said, drawing back my sleeve to show them my first message. Just like when Virgil’s message had finally appeared on my arm, there was a name there now. Blocky letters spelled out: Ethan.
“I...yea. That’s my name. I’m Ethan! Ethan Snips. They/them please” they spoke hurriedly. I nodded, sweeping them up into a hug.
“C’mon! You’ve gotta meet your other soulmate now” I smiled as they stared in disbelief when my own first sentence to them appeared with my name.
___
I was soulmates with Roman. Roy! And there was a third person. I obviously needed to meet them as I had their message left. But I had two soulmates and one of them is famous!
“Wait I- nevermind. Please, just take me to meet them” I smiled, limping after him as quickly as possible. He bought three milkshakes, which he rudely refused to give me mine until we got back. We were near his trailer when I heard her.
“She doesn’t sound happy” Roman turned nervously towards the sound.
“No, she isn’t. Hurry, please” I nearly shoved him in my haste to get away.
“Bad?” He asked, meeting my eyes. I noticed he didn’t even seem to register my scars
“Very bad” I nodded, raising a hand up towards my blind eye as if it would keep her from coming.
“HELP! SECURITY!” He screamed at the top of his lungs before scooping me up and running. I yelped, clinging to my cane and the arm wrapped around my chest.
“Princey, you idiot, what did you do!” A dark haired man appeared, one hand already on his hip.
“Reeescued someone?” Roman smiled charmingly.
“You idiot. He’s pretty, so I can see why you wanted to be knight in shining armor”
“No, you’re prettier. Handsome! Like the moon” I mumbled dazed.
“Thanks, why wear those gloves?” I saw his frazzled gaze on my threadbare gloves. I clapped one hand to my arm where  warmth radiated suddenly. I raised my cane in answer.
“This is Ethan! Our second soulmate! Uh, they/them. I need to explain to the head of security why I uh...just screamed. Have fun!” Roman dashed out the door.
“I’m Virgil. I’m assuming that was your mark suddenly warm, so my name should be under it” He sat a few feet away, playing with a small ball. I checked, and that was true. He didn’t move any closer or try to continue the conversation. It seemed like his question was more of a defense mechanism than him actually asking.
“Virgil?”
“Hm? What’s up?” He looked up.
“What’s your family like?” There was a small chuckle as he picked up the ball and started tossing it between his hands.
“Well, I’m assuming you don’t want to hear about my parents. They disowned me a few years back. My older brother Remy basically raised me anyways. He married Ro’s older sibling, and Dr. Picani. I work at the restaurant they own. I met Ro a few months back when he came in, and we started dating”
“Oh.” I traced the end of my shoe in thought.
“Here. A secret for a secret? I’ll you something most people don’t know about me for something about you?”
“Uh, sure. My middle name is Daniel”
“Ohhhh that’s kinda sweet! Well, I’m trans”
“Huh. And once again society has made equal exchange impossible”
“Ah! I see we have a philosopher” Roman came back in, kicking off his shoes and handing out replacement milkshakes.
“Yea. it happened aft-After a certain`”
“You don’t have to tell us if you’re not ready. We have time” Virgil interrupted me.
“No. No, I want it in the open. I was caught in a fire, which caused serious damage to most of my left side, and my hands” I pulled off my gloves, showing the scars that across them. Virgil reached over, offering a hand in invitation. I shook my head and he withdrew it without comment. I already felt safer with these two than I had with anyone else.
Over the next few days, my stepmom did everything she could to cheer me up. She even bought me a condo to make me feel better. Now she’s got me a therapist to “help”. *eye roll*  I have to meet with him and talk to him 3 times a week and explain how I feel about everything, which would help, but he doesn't really care about how I feel, and he just wants to analyze why I feel all of this. It took me 5 visits to tell him my name. It helped me talk a little bit more but other than that I’ve still been ignoring everyone. I don't want to talk to anyone because they don't know how I feel.
My stepmom took my slight engagement in conversation as a sign the other day and told me to call him. “Who?” I was not really interested in what she had to say. “Grayson.” She replied like it was obvious. “Well, who’s that?” I asked, frustrated with her weird questions and confusion. “Grayson, the boy who saved you.” Oh. Him. Grayson. Wow, that name really suits him. I thought to myself. “How do you know his name?” I asked out of confusion. “ After I put you in the limo that day, I talked to him and he explained what happened.” She explained. “Well, why would I call him then?” I asked. “For saving your life. Sweetie, common, are you ok?” She replied. “Yeah, I’m fine. How would I call him anyway? It’s not like you have his phone number.” I said. “Well, actually I do. I’ll give you some privacy, but call him.” She said sternly, handing me the phone and a piece of paper.
I went to the couch and sat down with a sigh. I guess I’ll have to do this. I picked up the phone and dialed the number. I was nervous. I didn't know what to say. Someone picked up on the second ring. I could tell it wasn't Grayson because the voice wasn't as deep as his.
“Hello?” Said the person.
“Um….Hi is uh Grayson there?” I stuttered out.
“Um….sure, one sec.” Then in the background, I heard. “GRAYSON THERE’S A GIRL ON THE PHONE FOR YOU.” A few seconds later I heard Grayson come to the phone.
“Hello?” Asked his deep husky voice and I immediately regretted calling at all.
“H-hi, its Astrid,” I said
“Oh, hey Astrid. Sorry, that was my brother Ethan. What’s up?”
“Um..” I started to panic. What do I say? What do I say? “ I have to go.”
“Uhh….ok. I guess I’ll talk to you later then. Bye.”
I just hung up on him. I was so embarrassed. Ugh. Why do I have to be so awkward? I mentally slapped myself. “What was that?” A voice startled me. I turned around and saw my stepmom walking down the stairs. “The least you could’ve done was invite him to dinner.” “I-” “ Don't worry about it though. I already did.” She said cutting me off. “Now go get ready. He’ll be here in a bit.” She said, pushing me up the stairs.
I reached the top of the stairs and sighed knowing I had no choice. I could at least look good, if not for me then for my stepmom’s sake. I walked into my closet. Ugh, I hate this place; it’s way too big. I picked out an army green dress, with a brown belt around the waist and black buttons above it. I grabbed my black flats and sapphire pyramid-shaped hanging earrings. I went to my bathroom, washed my face, and curled my hair. I decided not to wear makeup, I’d just tell my mother that I was trying a “natural look”. I examined myself in the mirror and headed downstairs.
I walked down the stairs and sat down on the couch. I watched tv for an hour while my stepmom cooked dinner. I had almost fallen asleep when I heard the doorbell ring. The tv lit up showing the camera by the door. “Astrid, honey, can you get the door please?” My stepmom called from the kitchen, cleaning up all the dishes, and setting the table. I stood up from the couch and followed her as she cleaned behind me. My father had insisted we never needed a maid. I had always assumed my mother would get one while he was gone, but she never did. She followed me to the door as I took a breath before opening it to a god.
I blinked a few times processing what- who was in front of me. My mother nudged me from behind. “Hello dear,” she said. “Um, hi.” I mentally slapped myself for that. “Come in love,” she said to him, her British side poking out a bit. I opened the door wider as he stepped in, eyeing my outfit before handing my mother an assortment of flowers. “These are for you, Mrs. Stans” He spoke, finally giving me a glimpse of his beautiful voice. “Oh, sweety please call me Andrea.” My mother politely replied. He nodded and turned to me “And you.” he handed me a similar assortment but mine was complete with roses. I deeply inhaled the scent, relaxing immediately.
After about a minute of standing there, my mother took the flowers and headed off to the kitchen. Grayson cleared his throat smiling at me, discreetly bringing my attention back to him. I followed after my stepmom to help her put the flowers away. As I entered the kitchen,   following close behind me, my mother headed to fix the table. I put the flowers into the vase, Grayson standing at the bar. “Your house is lovely,” Grayson commented. “Thanks.”
“Dinners ready!” My stepmom called from the dining room. We headed into the dining room and sat at the table. As we were eating my mother tried to make conversation. “So how's the food Grayson?” she asked. “It's amazing, thank you for inviting me.”
“So how are the therapy sessions going Astrid.” My stepmother asked looking at me, Grayson turned his head giving me a comforting smile. He somehow finds ways to always make me feel more comfortable.
“Um, pretty good I feel really comfortable around my therapist.”
“That’s good sweety I’m glad you’re getting better.”
The rest of the dinner consisted mainly of my mother making small talk with Grayson and me answering a few questions here and there.
Those Who Fall: “APTF” Story (Modern Domestic Stucky AU)
Thirty-One:
It wasn't until they were climbing out of their vehicles that Steve noticed the shirt that Katie was wearing. A long sleeve black crop top with skeletons holding pumpkins that were very clearly supposed to represent breasts. At the house, Katie had been wearing a cardigan, so Steve didn't see it at breakfast. He especially didn't see it once Steve and Bucky started placing the wooden Candy Land inspired decorations around the front yard.
Good-humoredly, Steve shook his head, "Cute."
"Felt it was appropriate," Katie agreed with a shit-eating grin. Then, she said, "Auntie Tibs sent it in her care package."
"Tabitha," Bucky reprimanded, not looking at the shirt as he was busy getting the wagon out from the trunk.
"Geez, throw me under the bus," Tibby feigned offense as she slung her camera around her neck. Pointedly looking at her brother and brother-in-law, she accurately accused, "As if you two haven't worn suggestive shirts."
Remembering the shirts that Natasha had gifted them and had only stopped once they decided to become foster parents. Steve remembered the time the pair wore matching shirts with Bucky's claiming, "Good Things," and Steve's solidifying, "Small Packages," and Winifred told them to explain why they found it so funny to a confused nine year old Tibby. After that, they stopped wearing the gag-gift shirts around family and refused to go anywhere that children might be.
"Fine," Steve rolled his eyes, then quietly warned, "If the minis start asking questions though, I'm having you answer them."
"Fine," Tibby scoffed as she gladly accepted Sophia's hand. Swinging their arms, Sophia led Tibby towards the pumpkin patch while she asked the little girl, "What are you thinking about carving this year?"
"A scary face," Sophia exaggerated, scrunching her face and hunching her back as she wiggled her fingers in Tibby's direction to seem spooky.
Holding her hand to her chest, Tibby pretended to be frightened by the expression as she said, "I don't know, Soph. That might be too scary."
Steve chuckled under his breath and helped Ethan out of the van. When Jonas finally arrived, pulling up beside their van, Steve's brows furrowed. First by the way Jonas was vaping, and exhaled a puff of cinnamon donut scented vapor out the cracked window. Second was when Vis climbed out from the back and assisted Wanda out of the older model vehicle.
"Hi," Steve greeted, brows still furrowed.
"Hi," Vis smiled, fidgeting. Almost as though he was worried he wasn't welcomed.
Steve smoothed out his expression and asked, "Ready to pick some apples? Find a pumpkin? You're coming over to carve them, right?"
"Oh," Vis bit back his lip at the offer, "I wasn't sure if you'd want me around since I was there yesterday."
"Nonsense," Bucky confirmed, taking Holly from Steve and sitting her in the stroller wagon. Buckling the -- now -- eleven month old baby into the seat, Bucky assured, "We were going to make tonight a whole thing."
Steve agreed, "Make some apple crisp. Carve some pumpkins. Watch some Halloween movies."
"C'mon, it'll be fun," Wanda encouraged, lovingly nudging him as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
Even Ethan started excitedly hopping up and down as he begged, "Please, please, please!"
Clearly about to cave before he finally agreed, "Yeah, it sounds like fun." Sheepishly peeking over at Steve and Bucky as they placed the canopy onto the wagon and asked them, "If that's okay."
"Of course, it is," Steve grinned, placing a blanket and a diaper bag in the stroller wagon.
Bucky closed the trunk door and teased, "We'll even let you pick a movie."
"Guess we know who the favorite is," Jonas joked, fixing the collar of his jean jacket.
Removing the light pink vape pen from his pocket, he inhaled a deep huff. Completely appalled, Bucky herded the older teen away from the younger teens. As Steve helped Ethan zip his windbreaker jacket, he heard Bucky reprimand, "What the hell are you thinking? Do you have any idea what that could do to your lungs? Or your siblings' with you doing it around them? And what about pops? He's got asthma, for fuck's sake!"
"I don't do it every day," Jonas weakly defended himself.
"It doesn't matter!" Bucky threw his arms up in a mix of exasperation and incredulousness.
"Okay," Steve clapped his hands to gain the attention of the other kids in front of him, "Should we pick apples or pumpkins first?"
"Pumpkins!" Ethan jumped in place, beside the wagon. Affectionately, Steve ruffled his white-blond hair. Crossing his arms, he complained, "Papa!"
Sweetly, Steve winked at the little boy and held out a stocking hat to him. For a moment, Ethan pouted, but eventually took the hat from him. Smiling, Steve leaned over to accept the kiss Ethan pressed to his cheek.
"Shouldn't we wait?" Luke asked, glancing between the two minivans where Bucky was talking to Jonas.
Steve attempted to lead the youngest teen towards the pumpkin patch where Sophia, Tibby, and Katie were picking out pumpkins. With Ethan helping push the stroller wagon, he reassured the fifteen year old, "It's okay."
Luke worried his plump lower lip with his teeth and nodded. Reminding Steve of how anxious Luke got whenever anyone was disciplined. Even though the brothers had been in Steve and Bucky's custody for four years, the younger still grew anxious and afraid that the punishments would be physical the way they had been in their childhoods. And while Luke still tensed at any time that anyone was reprimanded, there was progress. At least now he wasn't having panic attacks and locking himself in the bathroom as he harmed himself.
Rubbing Luke's back, Steve asked, "Are you excited for the dance tonight?"
Shrugging, he admitted, "Not really."
"Why not?" Steve's brows furrowed, genuinely confused. Idly noticing Wanda and Vis walk ahead of them with Ethan holding their hands. Since Luke wasn't going to answer anytime soon, Steve told him, "You know you don't have to go, right? You can just stay home with us." Playfully bumping Luke's side, he teased, "We might even let you pick a movie."
"I wanna go," Luke quickly argued. Giving another shrug, he admitted, "I just wish that I had a date."
"Sweetie," Steve deflated, feeling the sting of rejection from his own youth. Trying to help soothe his son's heartache, Steve said, "Sometimes dances are better when you go stag. Jonas almost always went date-less. It doesn't mean you can't have a fun time."
Taking in a deep breath, Luke nodded and dismissed, "I know."
Steve quietly laughed at himself and bumped into the teen again as he tried to cheer him up, "You can always ask her to dance."
Chewing on his lip, he looked over at Steve, "What if she says no."
Feeling a heartache that only ever came from knowing their child could potentially experience heartbreak. Not knowing how to reassure him, Steve helplessly reiterated, "Then she says no."
Nodding, Luke redirected his attention to the ground as they walked across the gravel parking lot. Making sure that they weren't in a spot to be hit by a vehicle, Steve stopped walking. And since Steve stopped, so did Luke. Steve put the lock on the wagon and turned to face his son.
"If she says no, it won't be the end of the world. I know that it'll feel like it, but it won't be. And we'll all be here for you," Steve reassured, "Even if you lock yourself in your room, we'll be here. Always. And just because this one girl might say no, doesn't mean that every girl will."
Nodding, Luke kicked at a rock and said, "I know." Looking up at Steve, he continued, "I just really like her, pops."
"I know, honey," Steve confirmed, pulling the fifteen year old into a hug. Rubbing his back, Steve repeated, "I know."
Leaning down to rest his head on Steve's shoulder the way he did when he was shorter, Luke hugged Steve just a little tighter. Steve knew that heartache was a part of growing up, but he wished that it wasn't.
Giving the boy's torso a comforting squeeze, Steve said, "C'mon, let's go find some good pumpkins. You know they're always the first ones to go."
Nodding, Luke pulled out of the embrace. From the wagon, Holly was gibbering away. Her tiny, chubby hand covered in slobber while the other one was gesturing towards her older siblings already in the pumpkin patch. Steve bent down to fix the hat on her head with the cute little bear ears and kissed her forehead.
When he straightened again, Bucky wrapped his arms around him. Startling him for a second before relaxing in the warm embrace. It was a rather warm day for autumn, but that didn't matter for Steve. Steve was always cold, and Bucky was always warm, it just made sense for them to cuddle as much as possible.
Jonas walked up to them with his hands in his jean jacket pockets and stopped in front of them. Focusing on Steve, he apologized, "I'm sorry."
Steve moved out from Bucky's arms and gave their oldest a hug. Rubbing his back, Steve told him, "We just care, sweetie."
"I know," Jonas assured, squeezing Steve's petite frame before letting go. With Luke not too far ahead, Jonas jogged to catch up, and draped his arm around his brother's shoulders.
After Steve unlocked the wagon again and started pushing it, Bucky hugged him from behind. Holding the petite blond close, Bucky made their walk awkward as he placed his feet on the outside of Steve's, causing them to adopt a waddle. In his laughter, Steve tossed his head back, resting it on Bucky's chest.
Once the boys were out of earshot, Steve said, "I hope you weren't too harsh with him."
Pressing a quick, loud, kiss to the side of Steve's neck, Bucky scoffed, "Not nearly as harsh as I'm going to be with Tabitha."
Brows furrowed, Steve tilted his face up to look at Bucky. Not having to ask, Bucky clarified, "She's the one who bought it for him."
"Of course," Steve shook his head. Looking up at Bucky, he told him, "Just wait until you see the shirt she got our daughter."
Feigning exasperation, Bucky said, "Now I understand what my mom meant when she said you were a bad influence."
Rolling his eyes, Steve playfully elbowed his husband in his ribs, and gladly accepted the kiss on his neck. For a moment, Steve just listened to Holly's baby gibberish, Ethan's high pitch squeal when Jonas tickled him, and Tibby occasionally telling someone to hold a pose for a picture taken by that fancy camera of hers.
Sure, they were a loud bunch, but they were good kids. Even if some of them weren't technically kids anymore. Tilting his chin up Steve asked, "We did a good job, right?"
Squeezing Steve's middle, Bucky good-naturedly scoffed, "Ya kiddin'? We're doing a great job!"
In reply, Steve rubbed the back of Bucky's hand. When they started heading through the pumpkin patch, Sophia called out, "Daddy! Papa! I found the pumpkin I want!"
"I'll help her," Bucky confirmed, pressing a kiss to Steve's lips when the blond looked up at him. Once Bucky untangled his limbs from his husband and started to walk away, Steve made sure to smack him on his cute, firm, bum. Surprised, Bucky looked back at Steve and jokingly warned, "You just wait, babe!"
Phoenix by Fallout Boy
Heads up, the beginning to this chapter in intense with angst. Trigger warning for abuse.
After that it should be ok. and we finally get to see deceit. His human name is Ethan and he is their new lawyer.
Chapter Seven: Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack
               Virgil woke up in a sterile greenish blue room. There was a heart monitor beeping somewhere. It might have been his. He felt an IV in his arm, and a truck load of pain everywhere else. He tried to remember how he got here.
               Last thing I remember is…  His blood turned to ice water.
               The last thing he could recall was his father being furious. And hurting him, he had been thrashed within an inch of his life. He tried to look around, but he could only see out of one eye. The other one was swollen shut. He didn’t see his father though.
               Maybe he had finally gone too far, and CPS had stepped in. Maybe things were ok now. And he’d get sent somewhere else. And his dad would get sent to prison. Maybe it was over.
               A few doctors came and went, checking his vitals and stuff like that. None of them said anything about him of his dad. He had to know.
               “Why am I here?” He fought intense agony to speak.
               “Shh.” One of the nurses cooed. “Don’t try to talk, sweetie. You’ve had a nasty fall and you injured a few ribs. Just lie very still.”
               “Where’s my…” He felt like he had been stabbed with a hack saw. “My… Dad?”
               “He’s right outside. He’ll be in with you in a moment.”
               Whatever pain he was in was dwarfed by the crushing blow of disappointment. Nothing was ok. He felt tears falling across his face, seeping into open cuts and stinging like hell. Of course, they swallowed whatever excuse his father had fed them. And there was no way they’d ask for his side of what happened. No, he was just a prop. No one wanted to know how he said it happened.
               “It’s ok,” The nurse soothed. “You’re alright now. Everything’s going to be fine.”
               She didn’t know! Of course, she didn’t know! How could she even say that!? Didn’t she know that it wasn’t ok!?
               It’s not ok! Help me!
               His dad walked into the room with a mask of concern that he wore amazingly. Nominate him for an Oscar, he deserves it. Even Virgil himself was tempted to think his father had an ounce of remorse.
               “How is he?” His dad asked in such a genuine tone, when did he find time to rehearse?
               “He’ll pull through.” The nurse assured him.
               “Oh, thank goodness.” He sighed. “I was so worried. He’s all I have after his mother left me. If something happened to him…” He trailed off. The fucker even shed a tear.
               “I understand.” Welp, he had her.
               “Is it alright if I stay with him now?”
               “Of course.” She said.
               NO TAKE IT BACK!! TAKE IT BACK!!!
               “In fact, he was just asking for you.”
               “Poor baby. He must be terrified.”
               DON’T LAEVE HIM WITH ME!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!
               “I’ll leave you two alone.”
               NO! SAVE ME!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!
               She left. And more importantly she left him alone with his dad.
               “It hurts doesn’t it.” The mask came off. All that was left was the sadistic tone of his father. “I may have told them you were morphine intolerant.”
               “Why?” It came out as a whimper.
               “Well, I had to get my point across.”
               “Why?” He wheezed again.
               “Well.” His father started. “First off, I want you to know they’re not going to ask you if you can have morphine, they already believe me. And they won’t ask for a second opinion. And that goes for your little tumble down our stairs. You tripped and fell, and your frantic dad rushed you to the emergency room. And if you say otherwise, I think we know who they’ll side with.”
               “And even if they believe you.” He grinned; the monster might as well have had three rows of teeth. “They’re a bunch of doctors who didn’t repeat seventh grade. They’ll just say I went easy on you. You see the grown up isn’t just always telling the truth, but they’re also always right.”
               He pressed down on one of his ribs. Virgil yelped in pain.
               “So, don’t disappoint me again.” He hissed.
               Last thing Virgil remembers is everything going black.
                                                                               #             #             #
               “PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!!!!” Virgil cried. “PLEASE HELP ME!!”
               Patton and Logan both shot awake and bolted to Virgil’s room. They met Roman in the doorway; he had brought a weapon. They all ran in as Virgil continued to shriek.
               “SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!” He pleaded, thrashing around on the bed like he was being murdered.
               Roman burst in and Logan switched the lights on.
               “Get away from him!” Roman demanded of the empty room.
               Virgil screamed and fell of the bed. He then just laid on the floor whimpering and drenched with sweat.
               “My baby.” Patton yelped, rushing to his side. “Are you ok honey?”
               “…I-I-I’m fine.” He panted. “I just had a bad dream.”
               Roman hid his samurai sword behind his back.
               “It’s ok.” Patton cooed, pulling the younger man into his lap. “I’m here, Da- I’ve got you.”
               “Do you want to talk about it?” Logan knelt beside Patton.
               “No.” Virgil’s voice came out as a squeak.
               “Ok.” Patton gently rubbed his back. “You don’t have to. You’re safe now. You’re safe.”
               With that said, Virgil started sobbing. Patton looked at Logan in horror and mouthed out ‘what did I do?’. Logan shook his head in mutual confusion.  Roman sat down on the floor with them and stretched his hand out to Virgil.
               “It’s ok.” He said softly, running his hand through the child’s hair. “You’re allowed to cry. You’re allowed to feel this. It’s ok.”
               Virgil continued crying as he buried his face in Patton’s shirt.
               “They-they’re gonna…” He gasped from Patton’s chest. “They’re not gonna believe me.”
               “Who?” Logan asked, with a pretty good idea he knew the answer.
               “The courts or the jury or whoever.” He panted. “They’re gonna take his side.”
               “No,” Patton soothed. “No, they won’t. it’s just his word against, like mountain of evidence.”
               “But he said I’m allergic to morphine and I’m not allergic to morphine,” He rambled in short, ragged breaths. “And they just went with it, and no one asked me if I fell down the stairs or not. Cause he already said I did. And…and…” He gasped hard.
               “Shh, shh.” Patton tutted. “It’s alright, no one’s gonna just blindly believe him ever again. He’s been branded as a liar. As he should be.”
               “Virgil.” Logan gently grabbed his shoulder. “No one is going to believe him over you. No one is going to believe him over evidence. This isn’t just he says you say.”
               Virgil mumbled something into Patton’s chest.
               “What?” Logan made a face like he had just been slapped.
               “I said.” Virgil sniveled. “What if they think he was going easy on me and I deserved it.”
               “Virgil.” Logan grabbed him by both shoulders and pulled his face up. “Look me in the eyes and listen to me. No one is going to say that. No one! You did not deserve any of what he did to you. Do you understand me!? You did not deserve that! And he did not go easy on you! He nearly killed you twice now! That does not quantify going easy on someone! No one is going to think that he was in the right, because he wasn’t! What he did was wrong! And nobody is going to think otherwise! Do you understand?!”
               Virgil nodded timidly.
               Logan sighed and pulled Virgil into a hug.
               “Ok.” He whispered. “I’m sorry for raising my voice to you. But you need to understand this. Your father…” He made a face at the title. “Payton was wrong to do this. And no one else is like that. This isn’t normal, and it isn’t right.”
               “I lied about what grade I’m in.” Virgil said. It was barely audible over his breathing. “I got held back. I’m starting eighth grade in the fall.”
               “I figured that out.” Logan sighed. “We got your school records last night.”
               “And you were asking all the questions about being held back earlier.” Patton added. “It was a really bad lie.”
               A long, tense silence filled the room.
               “We’re not going to do anything you expect us to do.” Roman broke the silence. “Please don’t lie to us again.”
               “Yeah, that about sums it up.” Patton wiped a tear off Virgil’s cheek. “We’d like you to trust us, and we wanna be able to trust you. Sound fair?”
               Virgil nodded.
               “Good.” Logan patted him on the head, it was unspeakably awkward. “Do you think you can fall asleep on your own, or would you like to take one of your pills?”
               “I’m fine.” Virgil sighed. “I don’t need to take anything.
               “Ok. But if you need your medicine come get one of us.” Patton fussed, pulling Virgil in and stroking his hair. “Do you want one of us to stay here until you fall asleep?”
               “No, I’m ok.” He paused and smiled coyly. “Trust me.”
               “We gotta get you some other bands to listen to.” Roman said unamused. “You can’t just keep quoting My Chemical Romance.”
               “My chemical Roman?” Patton quipped.
               “Patton,” Logan said calmly. “No.”
               “Absolutely not.” Roman agreed. “Never call me that again.”
               “I thought it was funny.” Virgil piped in, giving Patton a weak smile.
               “Well, at least one of us can appreciate humor.” Patton ruffled his hair. “You go ahead and get some sleep now. We’ll talk more in the morning if you feel like it.”
               “Ok.” Virgil yawned. “Thanks.”
               “It’s no trouble.”
               “I mean thanks, for.” He looked down and bit his lip. “Thanks for everything. All of you.”
               “That’s no trouble either.” Patton continued to pet him softly.
               “Don’t lie to me.”
               “Oooh, you’re feisty.” Patton teased. “Let’s get you into bed kiddo.”
               Patton helped him up and tucked him in, despite his protests the he was thirteen and didn’t need to be tucked in. Patton disregarded him without so much as going ‘uh-huh’ and pretending to listen.
               “Sometimes.” Patton kissed him on the forehead. “It’s nice to be tucked in.”
               As the three of them left the room Logan switched the light off and closed the door.
               “Poor little baby.” Patton whimpered as soon as the door closed. “How could anyone do something like that? He’s just a little kid.”
               “Some people are just rotten,” Roman patted him on the shoulder. “In a perfect world you’d be an only child. All we can do is be decent human beings to make up for the vile few who waste our air.”
               “I agree.” Logan nodded. “Just not as dramatically. Yes, there are bad people out there. And yes, all we can really do to counter them is act properly. There’s no point dwelling on what your brother did, all we can do now is work to help Virgil.”
               “I mean,” Roman gestured towards the door. “We already succeeded in not giving him night terrors. I’ll call that the minimum. So, we’re off to a great start.”
               “What the proverbial hell are you wearing?” Logan asked, only really looking at him for the first time.
               Roman looked down at himself. He was shirtless and clad only in red booty shorts that read ‘Royal’ across the butt.
               “It’s hot!” His face changed to match his shorts in hue. “it’s summer and we live in Florida!”
               “I think we all look silly.” Patton mumbled, tugging on the hem of his Pawton T-shirt.
               “I thought Virgil was being attacked by an intruder.” Roman argued. “I had time to either grab my robe or my sword!”
               “What were you gonna do, seduce the murderer?” Patton made a face.
               “Why are we having this discussion again?” Logan rubbed his temples.
               “Oh, we’re doing this?” Roman got defensive. “Because I happened to notice you were wearing seashell print underwear when you came to get me on Friday. And Patton had on dark blue boxers.”
               “So?” Logan challenged.
               “So, you don’t wear print underwear and Patton doesn’t own any without print.” Roman smirked sadistically. “I think you had on more than his shirt.”
               “Oh my God!!” Virgil screamed from the other room. “Get away from my door! I can hear you!!!”
               “I take back what I said about the nightmares.” Roman said flatly.
                                                               #             #             #
               The following evening was Patton and Logan’s turn to have to deal with the press. So, Roman was on babysitting duty. Given what would go down in infamy as ‘the booty short incident’ things were a bit awkward between the two. And now that Patton and Logan had left Roman was starting to feel a bit like the friend of a friend.
               “Do you think you’d like to be on the news once you’re feeling better?” Roman asked to ease the tension.
               “Sorry, what?” Virgil pulled out an earbud. He was curled up on the couch with his computer.
               “I was wondering if you wanted to be interviewed when you feel better.” Roman fought the cringe. “I’m sure they want to speak to you.”
               “I’m sure I’m not as beat up as they want me to be.” Virgil paused what he was watching. “Not too many bruises to exploit. Unless they want me to strip.”
               “That may not be so uncommon.” Roman said. “They asked me to strip last night.”
               “Really?” Virgil sat up and looked at him intensely.
               “Yes, I’m so gorgeous that everywhere I go people want me to take my clothes off.” Roman finished off the bit elegantly. “Mostly the ladies, but once the guys find out I’m on that side of the field… well. Let’s just say that they are not as weak as people think they are.”
               “I can’t believe I fell for that.” Virgil slumped back. “I’m an idiot.”
               “Well, maybe it’s just really believable.” Roman smirked. “I do have a god bod.”
               “You are like uber gay. Patton and Logan are married to each other and you’re still the gayest person in the house.”
               “How about you? Any crushes?” Roman turned the tables. “I bet everyone goes crazy over those eyes.”
               “Nah.” Virgil looked down and drug his hand across the rim of his laptop. “None yet.”
               “I guess that’s been pretty far from your mind.” Roman realized what he had done. “I’m sure you’ll be getting into it as you get older. Logan didn’t have his first until he was eighteen.”
               “Logan has…” He trailed off.
               “And you had other stuff to deal with.” Roman finished for him. “When you get your bearings, you’ll get your first crush, and if you never take an interest in romance, so be it. Different people need different things, and they need them at different times.”
               Virgil smiled softly at him, his lips only parting slightly to show a thin portion of his teeth.
               “And right now,” Roman stood up. “You need to watch Hunchback of Notre Dame with me.”
               “No way, I read that book, it’s horrible.” Virgil objected.
               “We’re watching the Disney version; it has a happy ending.” Roman explained. “Also, there’s a book?”
               “Yeah, it’s long.”
               “You’re in middle school, what are you doing reading stuff like that?”
               “I was in some kind of advanced reading class over the past couple of summers. You know, anything to eat up whatever free time I can get.”
               “So, you’re reading on like a high school level.” Roman pointed at him.
               “So, what, reading’s not hard. Like, everyone can read.”
               “Not on a high school level they can’t.”
               “Anyone who passed high school can.” Virgil countered, throwing his hands up.
               “Do you remember our different people chat from a moment ago?”
               “Just put in the movie.” He paused. “Wait, what time is your interview showing?”
               “Last night.” Roman shrugged. “It was pretty boring. And I decided that I hate it when the press tries to be clever.”
               “Go on.”
               “Actor Roman Lupine, known locally for his role as Mufasa in the community theater portrayal of The Lion King has found himself in a different kind of cast following the events of Friday night.” He recited.
               “That’s not even funny.”
               “I’m just thankful no one brought up my infiltration of the press.”
               “You’re the dude who pretended to be a reporter to troll my dad?”
               “I had to make sure they asked the right questions.” He defended. “And they didn’t. So, it’s a good thing I was there.”
               “Yeah,” Virgil looked down. “Honestly, before you guys showed up the press thought the sun shined out of my dad’s butt.”
               Roman couldn’t help but laugh at that image.
               “Wow,” Roman coughed between laughs. “You are a word smith.”
               “This movie another musical?” Virgil asked, stretching himself out.
               “All the best ones are.” Roman declared.
               Roman out the movie in and flopped himself down on the couch next to Virgil. The little one scooched away from him and curled up into a ball.
               “You don’t have to be afraid of me.” Roman smiled at him. “I may be gay, but I’m only attracted to people old enough to consent.”
               “Weirdly enough, I wasn’t worried about that.” Virgil said giving him a confused look. “I just haven’t bathed in a while, and I’m starting to smell.”
               “That’s you? I just thought my deodorant gave out.”
               “No, it’s me. I smell like death barfed up a bunch of old Band-Aids.”
               “Remind me why we haven’t bathed you yet.”
               “I can’t use my hands.” Virgil held up his gauzy paws. “Or get them wet or get my cast wet.”
               “Let me think for a minute.” Roman put his hand to his chin. “I’m great at creative solutions.”
               “Whatever you say, dude.”
                                                                               #             #             #
               Roman did come up with a solution. So, the two of them were now standing in Patton and Logan’s bathroom as that one had a walk-in shower with a grip bar installed inside. Roman unrolled a generous amount of plastic wrap.
               “So, we can wrap up your cast and hands really good with this stuff.” Roman smiled. “And then I can duct tape a back scrubber to one of your hands. That way you can clean yourself.”
               “I’m doing this more for entertainment than out of thinking this will work.” Virgil scoffed.
               “My kind are never recognized for their genius.” He feigned hurt and placed a hand on his heart.
               “Fine let’s do this.” Virgil sighed and held out his hands. “The smell is unbearable.”
               “Now, I’ll help you get your shirt off.” Roman said as he bound Virgil’s hands. “But your pants are your responsibility. I’m not getting my name put on any lists.”
               “You’re a saint.” Virgil said flatly.
               “Thanks for noticing.” Roman stood up. “Now, I find duct tape.”
               “Can’t you just put socks or something over my hands? It’d be easier.”
               “Now I go to get a pair of socks!” Roman rephrased. “Stay right here.”
               “Where would I go?”
               Roman returned with the socks, applied them and left Virgil one of his robes. With that done he left the bathroom. No way was he getting his name put on any lists. He sat on Patton and Logan’s bed, tracing the blanket pattern with his finger. It was creepily quiet.
               “Virgil,” Roman called. “Are you ok in there?”
               “Yeah, I’m fine.” He yelled back.
               “Ok. I’m right here if you need me?”
               “What the hell could I possibly need you for in here?”
               “I meant in case you fall. Weirdo.”
               “You’re weird.”
               Roman laughed to himself. This kid was terrible at name calling, at least in the moment. Roman softly sang to himself to break the silence. He looked around the love bird’s nest, they sure did like blue. He didn’t normally go into their bedroom if he could avoid it. Not that the room had anything wrong with it, it was the standard room with more plushies than would be expected scattered around. There was one desk, Logan’s, and it was home to many piles of books. As would be expected.
               “Sup?” Roman nodded at the large stuffed dog laying on the foot of the bed.
               “Roman?” A timid voice asked.
               “You can talk?” Roman grabbed the plushie. “Wait, I’m an idiot. What is it Virgil?”
               “Can you come in here?” Virgil sounded strained.
               “Did you fall? I’ll be right in.”
               Roman darted in and saw Virgil bunched up in one corner of the shower, covering himself with a towel. Thank god.
               “What’s wrong?” Roman asked, stepping closer.
               “There’s a bunch of weird spots on my skin.”
               Roman looked down at his chest and saw that it was peppered tiny irritations that were rough to the touch.
               “Ok.” Roman forced himself calm. “You come on out of there and put this on.” Roman held up the robe and looked away. “It’s probably just a reaction to the soap, or to not being able to shower for a while. You know, that kind of rash.”
               “Ok.” He squeaked. “I know it wasn’t here yesterday, so you’re probably right.”
               “Right. So, we’re just going to wash your clothes and see what happens.”
               Roman sent Virgil to his room and immediately called Logan. Logan answered surprisingly fast, he must have really not wanted to be interviewed.
               “Roman, is something wrong?” Logan answered, confused.
               “Virgil has this weird bunch of spots on his body, I don’t think it’s chicken pox, but it looks like scarlet fever.”
               “It probably is.” Logan said calmly. “That or he’s having a reaction to his antibiotics.”
               “WHAT!!?” Roman screamed into the receiver. “He’s going to die?”
               “Roman, scarlet fever is also known as strep throat rash.” Logan explained. “Both are caused by the same bacteria. I suspect he contracted it because his father didn’t take him to the doctor. Symptoms are the same as strep throat, and the first degree burns he suffered in the fire must have covered the rash.”
               “What do I do? Do I have to burn things? Is he going to live?”
               “He’ll be fine, just put some baby powder on the rash; we’ll take him to the doctor tomorrow to see if he needs his antibiotic dose increased or decreased based on what the rash is. Don’t burn anything, this isn’t the nineteenth century.”
               “Should I tell him?”
               “No, you’ll just freak him out.”
               “All this time scarlet fever has just been strep throat?” Roman mumbled, floored by the revelation.
               “Just wait until we tell you about what happened to measles.” Logan said blankly before hanging up.
                                                                               #             #             #
               “Just have a seat on the table and the doctor will be right with you.” The nurse said, holding the door for them.
               Virgil lurked in quietly with Patton and Roman both in tow. He stopped to look at them both and saw that Logan had also gone ahead and come in. Somehow, he had amassed and entourage.
               “I… Uh. Don’t think we all need to be here.” Virgil said, tugging on his sleeves.
               “We need to know what you have.” Roman defended.
               Virgil pulled himself onto the table and silently prayed that the doctor wouldn’t ask him to take his pants off. He was generally opposed to striping, but he was more against it now that he knew his audience wasn’t going anywhere.
               “It’s ok.” Patton rubbed his shoulder.
               “I’m not afraid.”
               “Oh.” Patton said surprised, not taking his hand away. “That’s ok too. You shouldn’t be afraid. It’s going to be alright.”
               “I regret telling them about strep throat rash.” Logan said to him. “I’m very sorry. I should have expected this kind of reaction.”
               “What other reaction is supposed to come with the news that he has a potentially fatal illness?” Roman protested. “Joy? We aren’t Barbra.”
               “The severity is dramatically decreased because of modern antibiotics.” Logan sighed. “Virgil’s not going to die from this. And it may not be strep throat rash, it could very well be a reaction to our detergent or his medicine.”
               “If he’s allergic to antibiotics that’s still a problem.” Patton objected.
               “How do you keep forgetting everything you learned in nursing school?” Logan sighed.
               Virgil chewed on his bandages, longing for the day when he could get at his nails again. Roman had kept his mouth shut about the idea of scarlet fever pretty well, but when Patton got wind of it, he freaked out. First kid and all that. Logan had been good about using the modern name, but of course Patton googled it and found out what it was. Virgil hadn’t had a moment’s peace since.
               Mercifully the doctor entered the room. Virgil knew this one, Dr. Talyn because they had been dealing him while he was still checked in. Nice to see a familiar face.
               “Hi Virgil.” Talyn said, clearly happy to see him. “How have you been?”
               “Recovering.” Virgil sighed. “How long do I need to have my hands wrapped again?”
               “I’ll look at the burns while I’m here, but I guarantee you that you still need to have them wrapped for at least another week.”
               “I know you.” Roman interrupted happily. “You’re the doctor who stood up to Payton that night.”
               “And you’re crazy twin guy.” Talyn nodded. “I’m a friend of Joan’s.”
               “You have one insane twin brother and that’s all anyone ever remembers about you.” Roman protested.
               “So, Virgil has a rash that you two are worried about?” Talyn turned to Patton and Logan.
               “I think it may be strep throat rash,” Logan explained calmly. “I just need to know what it is and if we need to adjust his antibiotics.”
              “Scarlet fever can make people go deaf.” Patton interrupted. “Is that gonna happen?”
               “No.” Talyn looked amused at Patton’s panic. “And it’s probably not strep rash, it seems weird that it would show up after we started treating the strep throat.” They turned on Virgil. “Can you pull your shirt up baby?”
               Thinking he had a bright future as a stripper, Virgil pulled his shirt off. Life was hell. Talyn looked at the rash for a minute and went about the other standard doctor examinations.
               “It’s not scarlet fever or a reaction to his meds.” They said finally. “It’s just a little stress rash.”
               “Oh, poor baby.” Patton fussed, grabbing Virgil and hugging him.
               The demonic voice in Virgil’s head screamed so loud that it blurred his vision.
                                                                               #             #             #
               “Oh, poor baby.” Patton pulled his nephew into his arms.
               “Oh, thank goodness.” Roman sighed. “I thought he was done for.”
               “For the last time, he wasn’t going to die.” Logan added tiredly.
               “If you want, I can prescribe a topical cream for the hives,” Talyn continued. “But aside from that I can’t really do much. They’re just gonna have to go away on their own.”
               Patton brushed Virgil’s hair out of his face and paused. Virgil was being oddly still. He loosened his grip and Virgil fell limp onto him.
               “Guys! I think he fainted!” Patton yelled in abstract terror.
               Dr. Talyn took over and shooed him away. They laid Virgil down on the table, took his pulse and checked his pupils. After that they put a cold cloth on his head.
               “Doctor,” Patton asked softly. “Did we do something wrong? His anxiety is getting really bad around us. Did we do the wrong thing?”
               “No, I don’t think this is anyone’s fault.” Talyn checked Virgil’s pules again. “I think he’s just having a harder time adjusting then we thought he would. All we can really do is give it time.”
               “We already made him a follow up appointment with Dr. Picani.” Logan added guiltily. “I didn’t think we were causing him that much stress.”
               “You don’t need to be in a stressful environment to have anxiety.” Talyn explained. “And he may have PTSD after everything his dad did to him. And he’s only like five days into this transition. That’s not even enough time to get used to a school week.”
               “It’s not right.” Patton brushed his hand through Virgil’s hair. “He’s just a little kid.”
               Virgil murmured a bit the bolted upright.
               “No! Get away from me! Don’t touch me!” He yelped. He stopped and looked around then sighed. “Sorry Uncle Patton, I-I thought you were someone else.”
               Who? I wonder. The words burned themselves into Patton’s brain.
               “It’s ok sweetie.” Patton hugged him. “It’s ok.”
               “What happened?” Virgil pulled himself away.
               “You passed out a minute ago.” Logan explained. “Are you alright?”
               “I’m fine.” He crossed his arms and looked at the floor.
               Talyn cleared their throat.
               “Do you three mind if I talk to Virgil alone?” They asked.
               “No.” Patton sighed. “Go ahead.”
                                                                               #             #             #
               Virgil watched the other three leave and whished that he was going with them. Dr. Talyn closed the door behind them and the room suddenly seemed oppressively tiny.
               “I have to ask.” Talyn sighed. “Are they treating you ok?”
               “Yes.” He looked down from the ceiling that he swore he could reach up and touch. “And not just the bare minimum of not beating me into a coma. They’re all being really nice.”
               “Have they done anything that wasn’t physical? Any insults? Anything like that?”
               “No. None of that stuff. It’s like some kind of alternate reality.”
               “Are you happy there?”
               “Yes. I wanna stay…” He dropped the sentence and stared at the floor.
               You can’t though, it’s not gonna happen. You can’t stay. He’s not going to let you. He’s going to ruin this for you if you don’t ruin it first.
               “Ok then.” Talyn finished. “You understand why I had to ask you that right?”
               “Honestly, I have been asked that more in the past couple of days than I have in my entire life.” He sighed. “Yeah, I understand why you asked. I don’t understand why no one else ever did.”
               “Neither do I.” That wasn’t the answer he was expecting. “I’ll check out your hands, then you can go.”
               Talyn checked his hands over and rebandaged them so that they looked like mittens. They padded the thumbs loosely so he could use them and kept the rest of his hands covered. He looked down at his appendages and saw that three of his fingernails had come off. He gagged and looked away.
               “I know,” Talyn soothed. “It’s creepy.”
               They finished with him and sent him on his way. He lurked out into the other room and joined the others. Patton immediately hugged him. He sighed and slumped into the hug.
               I don’t want to go. I want to stay with you.
               “It’s ok sweetie.” Patton pacified.
               “It’s just going to take some time.” Logan rubbed his back.
#             #             #
               “Ok, we’ll be back in a couple of hours.” Patton said chipperly on his way out the door. “Are you two gonna be okay?”
               “I already watched him last night.” Roman sighed. “I can do it again.”
               “I don’t even really need a babysitter.” Virgil added. “Dad used to leave me on my own all the time.”
               Don’t blow up, it’s ok. We’re literally on our way to see the lawyer. Patton bit his lip.
               “Well, you’re still sick.” Patton smiled. “So, you ought to have a grown up to look after you.”
               “And you’re in an unfamiliar environment.” Logan added.
               “I’m not a cat.”
               “We’ll be fine.” Roman shooed them. “Don’t be late to your meeting. We still have as entire anthology to watch.”
               “Ok, but nothing that can, you know…” Patton mimed pulling a trigger on a gun.
               “I won’t.” Roman rolled his eyes. “I’m not stupid.”
               “It’s going to be alright Patton.” Logan squeezed his shoulder. “You don’t have to worry.”
               “Ok.” Patton grabbed Logan’s hand. “We’ll be back in a few hours, or less depending on what happens.”
               “Take all the time you need.” Roman was almost pushing them.
               Patton looked over and saw Virgil staring at him curiously from the couch. He knew something was going on, kids can always tell. Patton guiltily avoided his gaze, there was no need to bring him into this and stress him out even more.
               And I definitely don’t want to get his hopes up and disappoint him. A thought preyed on him.
               No, that’s going to happen. This is gonna work out. We’re gonna be ok.
               You couldn’t save him before, what makes now different?
               You shut up!
               You can’t save him. You already let him endure this for thirteen years.
               Stop it!
               Payton isn’t just going to roll over! You can’t just smile and hope your problems go away!
               “Ok,” Patton forced a smile and took another step out the door. “I love you. We’ll be back in a bit.”
               Patton and Logan walked to the car in silence. Patton stared out his window and caught a glimpse of Virgil looking out one of the front windows at them, trying not to be seen himself. Poor little anxious baby. Patton looked at his feet. He wanted nothing more than to hold Virgil and tell him everything was going to be ok, and just keep holding him until they were.
               “Logan,” Patton sighed as they drove into the street. “Do we have a chance?”
               “A chance of what?” Logan glanced at him.
               “Winning custody.”
               “We do, in fact I’m optimistic in spite of myself.”
               “Are you sure, Payton’s gonna fight us on this.”
               “Payton has been digging his metaphorical grave for years, and it is now too deep for him to get out. The evidence is in our favor.”
               “Are you sure?” Patton rubbed his arms, feeling a sudden cold engulf him.
               “Yes, and if you’re worried that he’s going to lie his way out of this… well I don’t think his silver tongue is going to help him here.”
               “I feel kind of like I’m kicking him while he’s down.”
               “This isn’t about Payton’s feelings. Provided that he can feel. This is about what’s best for Virgil.”
               “Payton’s not gonna like this.”
               “I don’t care.”
               “Maybe he’s gonna say we shouldn’t be parents because we’re a same sex couple.” Patton said worriedly.
               “He was running for mayor as a gay man who had suffered abuse for it.” Logan said blankly. “No one is going to want to hear that.”
               “What if he says we beat Virgil up to make false evidence?”
               “We can disprove that.”
               “I read that judges don’t like to break up families, like take kids away from their parents.”
               “With the exception of that parent being a violent sociopath, who may have tried to murder them.” Logan added, grabbing Patton’s hand. “Sound like anyone we know?”
               “I’m just worried.”
               “I know, I’m worried too.” Logan held his hand tighter. “But I’m not going to let it consume me or make me lose sight of reality.”
               “I love you.” Patton said quietly.
               “I love you too.” Logan smiled. “After all, I am having your baby.”
               “When can we start introducing him as our son?” Patton perked up a little.
               “As soon as custody is granted. And remember not to overwhelm him.”
                                                                               #             #             #
               “Ok,” Their new lawyer said after they finished their story. “It definitely sounds like you have a case.”
               Their lawyer was remarkable short and built entirely of muscle. Outside of that he was scary. Completely pale with light blond hair that he covered up with a black derby hat. He looked like he had albinism along with a massive scar that covered the left side of his face, leaving him a dead eye and a slightly dented lower jaw. The scar pattern looked like a waffle iron. Patton pondered how the poor man got it.
               The lawyer had a name plate that read “E. S. Pent”. No first name.
               “So, what we need to do.” E. S. said. “Is organize what we have now, police reports, medical records and testimonies. You said Virgil is going to be seeing a psychiatrist?”
               “Yes,” Logan answered. “Dr. Emile Picani.”
               “Ok, we should be able to get him as a witness. He’s done all this before.” E.S. sighed. His job probably sucked.
               “Is Virgil gonna have to testify?” Patton bit his lip. “I don’t wanna expose him to all this.”
              “If he wants to, more power to him. But if not I’m pretty sure people will understand.”
               “Is there anything we need to be prepared for if he tries to counter us?” Logan asked.
               “Well, Patton already passed his background check.” E. S. looked through the papers. “I recommend you and your friend, Roman, both get one as well.”
               Logan looked around tensely and Patton instinctively grabbed his hand.
               “I, I have Asperger’s.” Logan sighed. “Is that going to cause any problems?”
               “No, I don’t think so.” E. S. smiled reassuringly. “Provided that it doesn’t make you violent or suicidal.”
               “No, all it really does is make me weird.”
               Patton mouthed out the words ‘I will fight you’ at Logan. Nobody talks about his husband that way.
               “Is it a problem that we’re gay?” Patton tilted his head.
               “It shouldn’t be.”
               “So, this is it?” Patton squeezed Logan’s hand.
               “Well you need to serve Payton papers, and set a court date. I’ll help you with the papers. And if you don’t want to face him, you can have a police officer, or a lawyer serve the papers for you. And I knew Payton in law school, he’s a prick. So, if you’d like, I would love to serve him the papers.”
               “I’ll give them to him myself.” Patton looked at the table. “I want to talk to him.”
               “Are you sure?”
               “He’s my brother, I can’t just turn my back on him. And if I’m going to do this, I’m not going to do it from behind someone.”
               “Alright.”
               It was past nine when they got home. Roman was on the couch contentedly watching the credits of Aristocats while Virgil dozed on his shoulder.
               “Oh, thank goodness you’re home.” Roman teased in an air of mock desperation. “It was so troublesome to look after a sick teenager. We had to watch movies and then he fell asleep. The horror.”
               “Very funny.” Logan whispered, feeling Virgil’s forehead. “Last night you called me in a panic thinking he had scarlet fever.”
               “Which you confirmed.” Roman whisper yelled.
               “No, no. get away.” Virgil mumbled in his sleep.
               “Shh,” Roman purred. “it’s ok. It’s ok. He can’t hurt you anymore.”
               Patton leaned in and pet Virgil’s hair. Poor little anxious baby!
               “Has he been talking in his sleep a lot?” He whispered.
               “On and off.” Roman looked down at him. “Mostly saying the same things. ‘get away’ ‘stop’ and ‘I wanna stay here’.”
               “You can stay with us baby.” Patton continued stroking his head. “We’re not gonna send you away.”
               “No,” Logan smiled. “You’re here for good.”
               Roman covered the sleeping boy’s ears.
               “How did it go with the lawyer?” He asked.
               “I’m serving Payton the papers on Friday.” Patton looked down.
Author’s note, Deceit’s color was similar to the albino Burmese python, so I made his human alternate an albino. Also a went with a scar instead of scales. Ethan will talk about being trans in a later chapter.
Guardian Angel: Chapter 6
We’re getting in to where we overlap with the movie a bit. So, spoilers. I think we’re getting close to the end here friends.
WC: 2308
Warnings: talks of Plan B, police, major spoilers
One of the first things I did when I got back to San Francisco was stop by the pharmacy to get Plan B. On the plane I realized that now wasn’t the time for a baby.
Ethan was irate that I went back to Massachusetts so close to the wedding, he was also angry that I didn’t tell him. I had to remind him that I was an adult. I just proceeded to help Maya with wedding details.
Ethan and Maya got married at a hilltop winery in Napa Valley. Just family and close friends. It was a beautiful wedding. Anyone with eyes could see that Maya and Ethan were ridiculously in love. I couldn’t help think of Ransom. The last time I had seen him, he had promised me this kind of life. The marriage, the kids. I resolved to call him tomorrow.
During the reception I received several calls from a number I didn’t recognize, although the area code was a Boston one. Finally after the ninth call I answered.
“Hello?” I said, stepping outside away from the festivities.
“Leah?” The voice on the other end asked. It was a woman’s voice.
“Yes, this is Leah,” I answered.
“Leah, it’s Linda Drysdale. Ransom’s mother,” she said.
“Oh, Linda. Hi,” I awkwardly uttered.
“Hi, sweetie,” she said. What? Sweetie? Had this woman ever called me sweetie? The last time she had seen me I was getting called a whore.
“Is everything okay, Linda?” I asked.
“Actually, no,” she answered, “I need you to come back to Massachusetts. Ransom’s been arrested. And we need you as a character witness.”
“Oh god. Okay. Arrested for what?” I asked.
“We can talk about everything when you get back here,” she answered.
“Um, I’m at my brother’s wedding. But I can fly out tomorrow is that good?” I said.
“That’s fine honey,” Linda sighed, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Have a good night,” I murmured before ending the call.
The next morning I pack all my stuff and flew back to Massachusetts. I didn’t tell Ethan and Maya any specifics. But I promised to call and text.
I landed in Boston that afternoon and got a car to Ransom’s house. There were more cars in the driveway than I had ever seen. Ransom’s car wasn’t there though. I let myself in this time. Ransom was sitting in the living room surrounded by Linda, Richard, and three men I had never seen before. When I barged in, everyone turned to look at me.
“Leah, dear,” Linda smiled walking toward me, “I hardly recognized you. Your hair looks great that color.” She pulled me into a stiff hug and kissed my cheek. I wasn’t used to this level of affection from Linda, but returned the hug nevertheless.
“Leah, these are Ransom’s lawyers, Kenneth Hill, Eric Musgraves, and Rodney Phillips. Gentlemen, this is Leah Becker, Ransom’s girlfriend,” Richard said.
I awkward waved from where I stood next to Linda near the doorway. I didn’t realize I still held the title of girlfriend.
“Ransom, why don’t you help Leah with her luggage?” Linda scolded. This prompted Ransom to look at me for the first time since I had arrived. He rolled his eyes at his mother, but stood and grabbed my suitcase with one hand, he grabbed my hand in his other. He hauled the suitcase and me back to his bedroom. I could feel all the eyes on me. He quickly shut his bedroom door behind us.
“What is going on, Ransom?” I asked.
“I messed up,” he murmured, eyes on the floor. I took off my coat and scarf and grabbed his face. He looked me in the eyes, tears welling up in his blue eyes.
“We have to go back out there, the lawyers will explain,” Ransom whispered.
“Okay,” I said, nodding turning to go back to the living room.
“Wait,” he commanded, “Please put this back on. For me.” He held up my necklace. The one he’d bought me for my last birthday. The one I took off before I flew to California.
I nodded, turning around so he could put it on me. He quickly fastened it. He leaned down to kiss my neck. I closed my eyes, absorbing the pleasure. I backed into him, wanting to get closer. He turned me back around and pushed me against the bedroom door, he quickly kissed me. I opened my mouth to his and pulled him closer to me. He pulled away moments later.
“I’m sorry that I left,” I apologized, “I was going to call you.”
He kissed me again.
“Please don’t leave me again,” he begged.
“I won’t,” I promised.
Ransom held my hand and lead me out of his room. We returned to the living room, Ransom took the seat he had been in when I’d gotten there. I sat on the arm of Ransom’s chair, and he put his arm around me.
“So, who’s going to tell me what’s going on?” I asked.
The lawyers proceeded to tell me what Ransom was accused of. Conspiracy to commit manslaughter, arson, and murder. His grandfather. Fran. It was a lot to absorb.
“The police claim to have a recording where Ransom admits everything,” said one lawyer, I wasn’t clear on which was which.
“If that recording goes away, it’s all circumstantial, right?” Linda asked.
“Yes, without the recording, no jury alive would convict Ransom,” said another lawyer, “especially, if his girlfriend takes the stand and talks about how amazing he is.” Everyone looked at me. Was I supposed to say something? Luckily, I was saved by my phone ringing.
“That might be my brother, so I should get that,” I mumbled weakly. I got up and saw that it was not Ethan. I didn’t recognize the number, but answered anyway, to get out of this conversation, if nothing else.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Is this Leah Becker?” The voice asked.
“Yes, it is,” I said, walking into the kitchen, away from listening ears.
“Miss Becker, this is Detective Lieutenant Elliot. I understand that you just returned from a family wedding on the west coast,” he stated.
“Umm, yes,” I stammered, “how can I help you?”
“I would like to ask you to come down to the station. We would like to ask you some questions about Hugh Drysdale,” he declared.
“Oh, I don’t know. I—“
“Today, Miss Becker,” he said, before hanging up the phone.
I walked back to the living room. And went to sit back by Ransom.
“Who was that on the phone, baby?” He asked.
“The police,” I answered, “they want to talk to me. As soon as possible.”
*****
I went to the station later that afternoon with the youngest of Ransom’s lawyers, Rodney Phillips. I was greeted by an older woman with straw-like hair, and eyes clouded by mascara goop. I told her that I was there to meet with a Detective Elliot. I was shown into an interrogation room, I assumed that was done to freak me out. I waited about fifteen minutes before two men walked in.
“Miss Becker, I’m Detective Elliot, and this is Trooper Wagner,” one man said.
“Hi, so why am I here?” I asked.
“We just have a few questions,” Trooper Wagner answered.
“Tell us about your relationship with Ransom Drysdale,” says Detective Elliot.
“I met Ransom years ago. He was my brother, Charlie’s roommate at Harvard. I’m Charlie’s baby sister, so he went to college when I was still really young. Charlie and Ransom did everything together. Best friends, I guess. My mom disappeared when I was a kid. She decided that she was sick of the whole wife of a public defender thing. She hated kids, so she left the three of us with dad. And then my dad died when I was sixteen. He got in an accident, the other guy was drunk. So, I went to live with Charlie and Ransom after that. They had just graduated a few years before. So, having me around must have really cramped their style,” I said.
“Where is Charlie now?” Elliot asks.
“Charlie is— Charlie passed away about four years ago. After college he got a job on Wall Street. And you know, coke is the name of the game for young guys over there,” I hesitated, “He didn’t overdose or anything. The doctors think he had an arrhythmia that he never knew about. I fell apart after Charlie died. My other brother, Ethan, is out in California doing the whole tech thing, so he wasn’t there.”
“And around that time, you became much closer with Ransom Drysdale?”
“Yes. He took care of me. I could barely get out of bed. I didn’t really know what to do. He made sure I ate and showered. Helped me go to school,” I responded.
“When you were 23 you were involved in a car accident. One where you were pretty critically injured. How did that affect your relationship with Ransom?”
“Well, it was right after I graduated college. I was working an unpaid internship at a super small publishing company and working shitty hours as a receptionist. But, I was on my own and it was fun. But yeah, I was driving home late one night and my brakes went out. I— I, um, went off the road. Well, actually I flipped the car. A few times. I was pretty badly injured. Like the works, broken bones, concussion, cuts, I actually had to have my left knee totally reconstructed. While I healed Ransom took care of me. He even convinced Harlan to help foot my hospital bills.”
“After you recovered, you went to work at the publishing company owned by the Thrombey’s? Is that correct?”
“Yeah. When I graduated, Ransom offered to help me get a job there. Initially, I turned it down because I wanted to make my own way. After my hospital stay, I really needed the money. So, Ransom helped me get a job.”
“Has your relationship with Ransom evolved beyond just one of friendship?”
“Ransom has been— the only constant in my life for five years. He’s my guardian angel, my very best friend.”
“But is there more to your relationship than a friendship, Miss Becker?”
“No.” I lied.
“Really?” Asked Trooper Wagner.
“We have numerous members of the Thrombey family on record saying that you two were involved. Sexually,” counters Detective Elliot.
“What does that have to do with the matter at hand?” I inquire.
“I suppose we’re just curious about the type of woman who gets involved with a man like that,” Trooper Wagner spits out, “Did he tell you what he did?”
I look down, at my fingers laced together on the tabletop. I refused to answer.
“Here’s the recording of Ransom admitting everything,” Detective Elliot said, placing his phone on the table in front of me. The recording was horrifying. I listened to it for about a minute.
“Turn it off,” I demanded.
Both men ignored me.
“I said, turn it off!” I yelled throwing the phone against the wall of interrogation room.
“We’re leaving now,” said Rodney.
“You can’t leave,” Trooper Wagner exclaimed, “she just destroyed evidence.”
“What?” I gasped.
“That was our only copy of that recording,” Trooper Wagner shouted.
“Miss Becker had no way of knowing that. Her outburst was clearly a stress-induced reaction and if you wish to charge her, you know where to find her,” Rodney maintained, pulling me out of the interrogation room, and escorting me out of the police station.
When Rodney and I returned to the house, everyone else was still there, having coffee.
“I think Leah just found a solution to our biggest problem,” Rodney smirked.
“What do you mean?” Kenneth asked.
“She threw the cell phone with the recording at a wall. And it was the only copy of the recording,” Rodney’s smirk grew into a mischievous smile.
“We’ll have to make verify that it was the only copy of the recording with our guy on the inside,” said Eric, “But this is good, very good.”
“Gentlemen, I think that is enough for today,” Richard called. The lawyers all agreed that we would meet again tomorrow. Everyone filed out. I gathered the coffee cups that had been left scattered in Ransom’s living room.
Ransom locked the door behind the lawyers and his parents. I took the used cups to the kitchen and began loading the dishwasher. Ransom followed me into the kitchen He sat at the counter, watching me place the mugs precariously on the top rack of the dishwasher.
“I guess we deserve each other,” I mumbled.
“What do you mean?” Ransom asked me.
“You commit crimes, and I unwittingly destroy police evidence,” I laughed hysterically, slapping my hands over my eyes. Ransom stood up and closed the dishwasher, he then lifted me up to sit on the kitchen counter, he came to stand in between my legs.
“How about we say that we deserve each other because we love each other?” He murmured, “Maybe the rest doesn’t matter, at least not in terms of our relationship.”
“How do you feel about everything?” I asked, reaching out to stroke his cheek.
“I don’t know,” he answered, holding my hand in place with his, “Aren’t you going to ask?”
I hesitated. I knew Ransom well enough to know what he was referring to, but I wasn’t sure that I wanted to know.
“Come on, Bunny. Ask me,” he urged, looking in my eyes.
“Why did you do it?” I relented.
“Harlan was cutting me off. I knew that I could never deserve you without the money,” he answered, “It just got out of hand.”
“Ransom, the money is nice, but it’s never mattered,” I placated.
“I’m going to find a way to provide for us,” he insisted, “And anyone else who comes along.”
