Author’s Note: I’M BACK, BITCHES! Well, kind of. I’m really just here to get this out of my brain then I plan on returning to my self-imposed hiatus. 

This was based off a shower thought I had relating to the news of Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s break up (I’m still absolutely devasted over this news, by the way). So, yeah, here’s a little fluff for your Tuesday. Enjoy!

*scurries off back to Hobbit Hole*

Natalie furrowed her brows as the “Breaking News” from Scoop Magazine appeared on her iPad screen. She scanned the headline and opened up the article, her curiosity getting the better of her.

BREAKING NEWS: 

Celebrity doctors and medical powerhouse couple file for divorce! Dr. Natalie Cusack-Ramsey and Dr. Ethan Ramsey are separating after just ten months of marriage! Dr. Cusack-Ramsey was recently spotted out and about without her wedding ring, causing speculation on her relationship with her new husband. Shortly after that sighting, a source close to the couple confirmed that they are separating. The reason given for this separation was “irreconcilable differences.”

Scoop has reached out to both doctors for comment, but neither have yet to reply to our inquiries. Watch this space for further updates!

Nat cocked her head to the side as she read the article… then read it again. 

“The fuck?” Nat asked, in disbelief.

“Hm?” Ethan replied from the kitchen.

She chuckled. “Uh… apparently, we’re getting a divorce.”

Ethan stopped making coffee to look up at his wife and raise an eyebrow. “Oh, are we?”

“According to Scoop,” she replied, waving the iPad. 

Ethan rolled his eyes and returned his attention to the espresso machine. “Ugh,” he stated. “Why do you read that garbage magazine?”

“Because usually it’s fun!” Nat replied, returning her attention to the article. 

“Mhm. And who exactly is telling these gossip rags that we’re divorcing?”

“Someone close to us, apparently. We are separating due to ‘irreconcilable differences.’”

“Do those irreconcilable differences include you putting your cold feet on my back every night?”

“Hey! It’s not every night!” Nat protested. She lifted her feet for him to see. “I’m even wearing socks today! See?”

Ethan chuckled and nodded. “My bare back thanks you.” Natalie stuck her tongue out at him, a gesture he returned right back at her.

She looked back at the iPad. “According to the article, speculation started when I was ‘recently seen out and about without my wedding ring.’” 

Ethan hummed in response, as he stirred his coffee. “This wouldn’t happen to be the same wedding ring that no longer fits your finger, would it?”

Nat wiggled her slightly swollen fingers. “It’s not my fault.”

“Are you suggesting it’s mine?” he replied, fighting a smile.

“Well, I’m certainly not the one who got me pregnant!”

Ethan laughed and joined her on the sofa, placing his coffee on the side table. “I’m pretty sure it takes two people to make a baby, my love.”

She scrunched her nose. “Mm, not necessarily.”

He snorted and kissed her temple. “With us, it did,” he whispered into her ear. 

Nat felt a chill run down her spine and giggled. “Either way, you’re still responsible for my fingers being like this,” she said, holding up her hand. 

He took her hand and placed a soft kiss on each finger, then held her hand close to his chest. “I assure you: your fingers are still quite beautiful.”

Nat frowned. “Even when they’re swollen?”

“Especially then.” The iPad dinged again and Ethan looked at it, frowning. “As for this article,” he said the word with clear disdain, “we should probably nip it in the bud while we still can.”

“Do we need to?” Nat asked. “I was just thinking we could ignore it.”

“Mm,” Ethan scrunched his face in disagreement, “I think we need to shut it down. Before any other outlets pick up on this trash.”

Nat chuckled. “You really don’t like gossip columns, do you?”

“I just think there are other things we should be putting our energy towards rather than worrying about people we don’t know and their relationship. Our relationship is our business; no one else’s.”

Nat nodded, smiling. “I like it when you get protective.”

Ethan raised an eyebrow. “Do you, now?”

“I do. It’s sweet and… well, it makes me feel safe.”

Ethan gave her a small smile and pulled her close, wrapping her up tightly in his arms. “You’re my life, Nat. And you’re carrying my son; of course, I’m going to be protective. But I also just really want people to mind their own goddamn business.”

Nat nuzzled into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his midsection. “Well said.” 

He kissed the top of her head. “And, just for the record, if we were to separate for irreconcilable differences, it would definitely be because of your cold feet.”

Natalie scoffed in disbelief. “Rude!” 

She pulled out of the embrace to lightly whack him but he caught her hand in his and pulled her back to him, kissing her soundly. 

She broke the kiss briefly to mutter “You’re a little shit,” against his lips.

“You love it,” he returned, peppering kisses on her face.

Nat chuckled. “I do.”

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE:

A few days ago, Scoop reported a story stating that Drs. Ethan Ramsey and Natalie Cusack-Ramsey were divorcing. Scoop has now learned that the information given to Scoop was false and inaccurate. Dr. Cusack-Ramsey has confirmed with Scoop that her marriage is strong and not at risk of divorce in any way. 

Scoop deeply apologizes for any harm or distress caused by our previous article.

Film after film: Where the Heart Is (dir. Matt Williams, 2000)

Portman's career is fascinating, as epitomized by Black Swan being followed by Your Highness. Like the latter, this film also falls into the "deadly boring" category, while being even more frustrating due to featuring great (despite the writing's quality) performances by Channing, Judd, Field (in a role that reminds me of her great guest role in ER), and, particularly, Cusack, whose first scene is the best in the whole movie. Portman's character is similarly uninteresting to the previous year's Anywhere But Here, yet there she was a co-lead with great Susan Sarandon.

I tried to look for what you were referring to here but I couldn't find it, unfortunately. So I decided to take a look at Instagram to see if it was in her recent stories, but unfortunately it's not. Aside from the fact that I didn't know she had 13 MILLION FOLLOWERS 😒... in any case, depending on the post I could let you know what that zionist was trying to convey. I posted a list recently of celebrities who openly supported the IOF bombing Gaza, but the more well-known one's in Hollywood are:

Jamie Lee Curtis, Madonna, Natalie Portman, Dwayne Johnson (stage name 'The Rock'), Sarah Silverman, Kris Jenning, Mindy Kaling, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, -a lot of these I was not surprised by, but there are others who gave neutral PR statements, and others who have openly condemned the IOF like Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, Bella and Gigi Hadid, John Cusack, Ben Affleck, and Angelina Jolie. Also -shout out to Kehlani for being a consistent and incredible ally as well. Music: Dario Marianelli.

I'm not sure how Guy Fawkes became a hero and his plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament an admirable political act, but V for Vendetta certainly seems to endorse both of them. (The latter seems especially odd in a movie made only four years after the 9/11 attacks.) The film bears the stamp of many adaptations from graphic novel/comic book sources: an assumption that the viewer will accept the movie's milieu on its own terms, without trying to haul in real-world plausibility. It's easier to do that if you have a cast capable of playing almost anything from Shakespeare to soap opera. So the presence of actors like Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea, Stephen Fry, John Hurt, Tim Piggott-Smith, Rupert Graves, and Sinéad Cusack goes a long way to keeping V for Vendetta alive. I particularly liked Roger Allam as a rabble-rousing news commentator in the mold of Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. I was less impressed with Natalie Portman, whose British accent came and went fitfully and who generally seemed at sea. It may be that the script by Lilly and Lana Wachowski called for her character, Evey, to be off-balance through most of the film, but I failed to connect with her performance, which since she is meant to be the audience's point-of-view character is something of a fatal flaw.

Brendon’s old YFly account

Yfly.com was a social media site for young adults that never really seemed to catch on. Its whole angle was the fact that celebrities were certified/verified, back before that was really a thing (so then you would know that celebrity profiles were actually legit instead of trying to guess which one of the 40 Brendan Uries you had friended on Myspace & Facebook might be real). Nick Lachey was a co-founder of YFly, and a bunch of celebrities signed up in late 2006 to help promote the site (I heard that Brendon had to sign up during one of the events surrounding the 2006 VMAs). Brendon didn’t do too much with his YFly account besides dutifully fill out his interests. Idk if he was even the person who added the handful of pictures to his album (the one above was his profile pic at one point. it was taken by Quang Le during the NRWC season). I think there was also a song by Silverchair on his profile.

Brendon put “rock?” for the genre of P!ATD and he left the exclamation off of the band’s name (which is noteworthy in hindsight because the exclamation truly wasn’t a big deal until the media turned it into one in 2008 and made the absence of the exclamation mark represent all of the big changes that Panic had made... so then the exclamation mark firmly symbolized the original Fever-era band).

Thor: Love and Thunder.

D: Taika Waititi (2022). 

The new Thor movie opens with Gorr a desperate man (Christian Bale) watching his young daughter waste away from hunger despite his most fervent prayers. He is called by a sword that can kill gods and begins a rampage of slaughter. That’s a good, dark premise for a Thor movie but Taika Waititi can’t mesh the darkness with comedy as he did in JoJo Rabbit, What We Do in the Shadows or for that matter Thor: Ragnarok. In that movie, Waititi unlocked Chris Hemsworth’s comic chops and gift for Douglas Fairbanks light self-mockery which in this movie veers into Will Ferrell territory. Hemsworth’s reconnects with his ex (Natalie Portman who improbably wields his old hammer as Lady Thor when she’s not playing the most unconvincing cancer sufferer since Ali McGraw) and demonstrates zero chemistry with her. He briefly fights with the Guardians of the Galaxy in the most pointless team-up of MCU history. He tries to inspire a group of captured children not to give up hope, but his compulsive buffoonery kills any Crispin’s Day eloquence. If Ragnarok used slapstick humor to set off a story with real grandeur, this time Waititi and Hemsworth sell out two great storylines (from Jason Aaron’s great run of the comic), just for a laugh. The title of this movie (which must have been conjured by a marketing committee for all it has anything to do with anything) is a laughable misnomer. It could just as easily be called Thor: Ham and Cheese.

Spiderhead.

D: Joseph Kosinski (2022).

Spiderhead (loosely based on George Saunders great short story “Escape from Spiderhead”) is also cheesy, especially in its “Oh, what the hell” action-movie climax, but before that it’s a neat (and believable) satire of pharmaceutical research and gives Chris Hemsworth one of his best roles as Steve Abnesti, a corporate functionary running a combination country-club prison/research facility in which prisoners get their sentences reduced by participating in a study that examines the effects mood-altering drugs like Luvactin (which makes people fall in love), Phobica (a fear drug), Laffodil (causes laughter) and Darkenfloxx (induces suicidal depression). One of  Abnesti’s favorite subjects is Jeff, (Miles Teller, channeling John Cusack) tortured by a horrific car accident that killed his best friend. Their sessions, (which recall the Milgram electric shock experiments) come down to “Can a person be induced to take actions repugnant to their moral values?” and Hemsworth has a blast as a bro-manipulator who uses his raffish charm to get the test results he wants (in a corporate perversion of scientific ethics that feels spot on). Kosinski is skilled enough to turn the films weaknesses (I always felt a step ahead of the plotting) into strengths (I never lost the dread of knowing what comes next) and even the trite ending when Abnesti gets his comeuppance allows Hemsworth to turn it into a comic-horror acting showcase. If Love and Thunder suggests the MCU is getting stale for the actor, it’s nice he has other places to go.
