i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

"The Ghost and Molly McGee" employs archives stereotypes with basement archive [Part 3]

Speaking of Tangled, there are four episodes in that animated series which have archivy themes: "Keeper of the Spire," "Rapunzel and the Great Tree," "Islands Apart," and "Race to the Spire." It turns out, according his IMDB page, that Ricky Roxburgh was a staff writer for all of these episodes, the same ones which had no archivist, archivy themes, and scrolls stuck in a tree, as I referenced earlier in this post.

As such, episode of The Ghost and Molly McGee was not the first time, he had, sadly, contributed to perpetuation of archives stereotypes. Roxburgh has a degree from SUNY Albany, according to his IMDB bio, and is well-educated, making this even more unfortunate. Chang, on the hand, seems to be a new writer, as his only credits on IMDB are seven episodes of The Ghost and Molly McGee.

Sometimes it feels like series like The Ghost and Molly McGee are stuck back in time. The National Archives and Record Administration (NARA)'s Archives II location, where I worked for a short time, has multiple levels of stacks of records, ranging five to seven floors, which can be accessed by employees. However, before 1934, when NARA was founded, national documents were stored "essentially at random," with no plan for preserving the Constitution, and was stuffed in a storage space, even spending time in the basement of the State Department for over forty years! There was, before 1934, a pattern of "astonishingly haphazard record-keeping" which each federal department having its own archive, with many records either not accessible, or lost.

Since 1934, there have been efforts to ensure that records can be accurately cataloged, organized, arranged, and so on. While one could easily, and rightly, point to the backlog in processing NARA's records, or the fact that only 1.2% of the records in NARA's holdings have been digitized, there is no doubt that it is better to have national records organized together under one agency than have them haphazardly organized across many departments.

This is something that the episode is missing. It is also, by saying that the archives is dusty, little-used, and dirty, devaluing the work of archivists themselves. If an archives was realistically in that shape, such an archivist would undoubtedly be violating codes of ethics, whether from state-specific professional organizations or nationally from organizations like the Society of American Archivists. It would also run afoul of records laws on a state level as well.

Andrew Raymond and James O'Toole pointed this out in 1978, arguing that in some respects, archives was seen as a branch of academic history, with the importance of archives depending on the importance of history. They went onto say that "the archivist is therefore consigned to life in the basement. He is forced into a stereotype that is dark, dusty, unpleasant, and most of all irrelevant," only providing services to genealogists and scholar-historians, leading to less funding and regard from others, like administrators and various public officials. People think all archives look like the above stock image, a photograph of an archive in Sicily, apparently.

Episodes like the The Ghost and Molly McGee episode described in this article feed into those determinations and have real-world effects on public opinion and the lives of archivists themselves.

look at this frame! don't their poses look similar, even though they're in totally different places?? well, there's a simple reason for it! we can see raph in the driver seat, his left hand on the wheel, while the other one's searching for someting, it's symbolising his active role as leader, while leo stands alongside him, his left hand on a handhold while he gestures with the other, showing him being less active and more of a passive presence, but he's ready on his feet, it's symbolising his potential as raph's co-leader but also him not yet being ready, still gripping the safety rails instead of the driving wheel-

Synopsis ┊Your dorm is going under renovation and you need to find a place to crash in for a while. Luckily a certain someone offers you to stay in theirs for the time being.

Characters ┊Katsuki Bakugou, Shoto Todoroki, Izuku Midoriya.

A/N ┊beginner Writer here, these were harder to think of than I thought ngl. If you have any requests please send them to me, I'm open to do different characters and also different anime's!

Katsuki Bakugou

❥ By no means whatsoever does he offer his dorm out of the kindness of his heart. He just got pissed off of seeing you sleeping on the couch in the commons area every morning, and accidentally stepping on your blanket or pillows. After stepping on your blanket once more he grabs your shit and puts it in his dorm and acts like he's bothered by this but really he doesn't mind at all.

❥ Makes you sleep on the floor for the first two nights until you convince him to share the bed. He's reluctant at first but then allows it as long as you stay on your side of the bed. Do you really though?

❥ Expect to sleep earlier and get your sleep schedule in check because his dorm, his rules, lights are off at ten pm sharp with no exceptions.

❥ Also expect your grades to go up. While he's your roommate he's going to make you don't slack off on your studies.

❥ When he wakes up in the morning and notices your head resting on his chest he gets somewhat annoyed but secretly likes it. he's willing to get behind on his strict schedule and let you rest on him a little longer. but just a little.

❥ Demands you now be his training partner but is careful to not get carried away. You're strong, but he still doesn't want to run the risk of hurting you. therefore, he always keeps Aid kits in the bathroom just in case you do get any scratches, even if they're minor.

❥ Constantly threatening to kick you out over every little thing but actually has no intention of doing so. He won't admit it but he enjoys your company. "I swear if I see one more sock lying around I'm grabbing your shit and throwing it out."

Shoto Todoroki

❥ "Why don't you sleep with me." he said boldly unaware of how his sentence had more than one connotation to it. I mean you need help and as your friend he's more than willing to help you out. plus he has the biggest dorm compared to everyone else, if anything he's the most suitable to offer his help he thought.

❥ Asks you what temperature you prefer to sleep in so he can use his quirk to either make the room colder or warmer depending on your preference. and ALWAYS makes sure to make both sides of your pillows cold.

❥ When he's out visiting his mother you make sure the place is clean (though it usually is since he tends to be on the neater side) and prepare some soba for him as a token of your appreciation. After a couple of times he starts to look forward for it and got saddened the one day you forgot.

❥ In return he made sure not turn on the lights when getting ready in the morning as to not wake you up. Part of it was for a selfish reason though, he thought it was cute how you slept soundly on his bed.

❥ Speaking about sleep; During the night he would find himself cozying up next to you, not on purpose though. He just felt comfort in your presence and he realized you felt the same way when you also moved closer to him during the night.

❥ Leaves out coffee for you in the mornings since you tend to stay up late on nights and wake up always running late to your classes.

Izuku Midoriya

❥ Overheard you talking to Tsuyu and Uraraka about how you need a place to sleep in and walked over to offer his help without a second thought. You already spend most of your time in his dorm room during the day to share notes anyways. The only difference would just be you spending the night.

❥ Offers for you to sleep in his bed while he sleeps on the floor. After you refuse to let him sleep on the floor he shyly agrees to share the bed with you constantly asking you if you're okay with it.

❥ Midoriya stays up late at night writing in his notebook and murmuring thoughts to himself. You persuade him to go to bed and leave his worries for the following day. he deeply apologizes for the burden kind of embarrassed. "I-I'm sorry! was I keeping you up? I'll go to bed in a few minutes don't worry."

❥ Always invites you to go out with him whenever he leaves the dorm, even if it's something as simple as going to the gas station to get some snacks.

❥ he loves to talk your ear off geeking out about the knowledge he knows about the top heroes and their quirks. When he notices he got carried away he gets all types of flustered but even then he doesn't get the sense of being judged.

❥ Since he's constantly getting injured and going to see Recovery girl he always comes back exhausted. regardless, his stubborn ass still tries to go out on missions and push himself to the limits. he get's frustrated when you don't let him do so and force him to rest and leave his chores to you. But he loves you for it.

his daughter's laughter was probably the best sound he's ever heard. it was a sign that she was happy, so in return he was also happy.

sometimes he'd blow raspberries on her tummy just to hear her giggle some more. her little laugh never got old to him.

currently, he was sitting on the floor of the nursery with your daughter who was lying on her back, looking up at him with a scowl that was eerily similar to his.

you were leaning against the doorframe, smiling at their interaction. "what'd you do to make her mean mug you like that, huh katsuki?"

he pinched her nose lightly, making her squeal. "nothin'. she's just got a mug like me already." he said and swooped her up into his arms, cradling her as he did so.

you walked over to them and sat down next to katsuki to look at your baby girl. she was looking back and forth between the two of you from her place in katsuki's arms, not sure who to focus on.

as he held her with one arm, he brought a hand up to her little face and held out a finger for her to hold onto. she cooed as she grabbed it, gripping his finger tightly with her super baby strength.

as she continued to babble away and play with katsuki's fingers, he continued to admire her little features that were a mix of yours and his.

you giggled at their interaction, "i can't believe you said you wouldn't spoil her. look at you now," you teased, "she's got you wrapped around her little finger and she's barely about to be three months old."

he scoffed. "shaddup. i didn't say that." he lied.

you smiled and leaned your head on his shoulder, allowing him to get away with his lie this one time.

i'm sorry this was so short T_T ngl ive been in a funk lol i can't think of anything to write!! but i'm hoping it'll come back to me soon <3
