Could you maybe do a tiny blurb of Joel comforting the reader after a night terror? Idk if he’s canonically soft enough for that but I choose to believe that he is.

Joel Miller + comfort after a nightmare
A/N: I think Joel is canonically soft enough to try to offer comfort if he already cares about someone (at least from the show). He's a caretaker to his core, so I think that would be something he'd do. And if there's anyone that's gonna soften up a character its gonna be me babeyyy.

When you jerk awake, Joel is hovering over you.
He's not touching you, but you think he might have been a second before. Your shoulder aches with warmth, like Joel had been trying to shake you awake.
"Sorry," you mutter, keeping your voice low as you sit up. "Was I making noise?"
"No," he answers, sitting back to give you space.
The room is dark and quiet, a soft snow peppering down outside. The house creaks, settling into the cold, into the wind that howls beyond the glass.
You nod, choking back the feelings flooding your chest, the dregs of panic still ebbing away. A throbbing pain settles at the base of your skull, a kicking kind of ache that sends the remains of the dream, the nightmare, spinning through your mind.
"Just movin' around a lot," Joel continues, the cut of his voice just edging on worried.
You hadn't expected him to say anything else.
You want him to let you have this moment in privacy, to lie back down and pretend he can't hear you struggling to catch your breath.
Joel is looking at you, but you can't meet his gaze.
"Sorry," you say again, trapping your arms around your body when you lean forward, dropping your head down. If you just held on tight enough, you wouldn't fall apart, that ache in the middle of your chest wouldn't consume your heart.
"It's alright," he says. The warm swell of his words soothes you. "Ellie still gets 'em like that sometimes. She'll wake me up with her yellin'."
But you aren't Ellie; you aren't a child. "Right," you say, a sour feeling worming around your belly. Usually you're able to shake the dreams off easier. Tonight it lingers. "I didn't mean to wake you," you manage. Before he can say anything else you lie down and roll so your back faces Joel.
You stare at the snow through the window, knowing you won't go back to sleep. The guilt and embarrassment for having not only woken Joel, but let him see you so frazzled, sits heavily on your chest.
It's a thick snow, the kind that obscures and never fully settles. The blinding kind of snow, that makes the world feel small.
A long few minutes pass before Joel finally lies back down behind you, the mattress creaking beneath him as he shifts. You wonder what he's thinking, why it took him so long to lie back again.
You squeeze your eyes closed, willing the tears pressing hotly at the back of your eyes to dissipate. It feels a little like battling a storm, like fighting something formless, colorless, indefinite, and undefinable.
A long moment passes while you wait for Joel to fall asleep again, or roll over onto his side, or at least stop thinking so damn loudly.
Instead, you feel one broad palm slot gently against your spine. You freeze, but he doesn't remove his hand. The light pressure increases, firmer against your shoulders and back.
The warmth of his palm through your t-shirt is comforting. "It's alright," he repeats, like he knows exactly where your head is, as his hand trails down your back and then back up.
Your breath hitches with suppressed emotion, both from the dream and Joel's hand against your spine, soothing you as carefully as he can.
It's odd. You've watched him commit unbelievable, unimaginable violence, and yet he's capable of moments like these, small acts of unending, enduring love.
That violence, too, you suppose, was for love. Love for Ellie, and Tommy, and Tess, and even you.
You don't turn, don't move, but you do close your eyes. The memories, the images of the nightmare, don't come so quickly this time. The knot in your chest loosens, and the cold fingers gripping at your insides fades.
Joel slides closer behind you, his chest pressed to your back. He slides his arm around you, pressing the flat of his palm against your sternum. The pressure of it helps, and your breathing eases.
You hadn't realized you were still struggling to catch your breath. You suck in a breath, and open your eyes again to stare at the snow.
"It's alright," he soothes once more, his gruff voice like honey in tea.
You still don't answer, and instead curl your hand around his, linking your fingers through the backs of his and squeezing tight.

Ruggie Bucci

Sometimes Leona sends Ruggie on 'quests,' as you would often call them. Ruggie just calls them chores
Things like getting him lunch, cleaning his room, delivering papers, and recently he's been tasked with keeping an eye on you.
Word on the proverbial grapevine is that you haven't been doing so great. Falling asleep in random places, spending long hours in the library, working extra shifts at the monster lounge, and most importantly- you haven't visited Savanaclaw in over two weeks
Now Ruggie would get shanked if he ever said it out loud, but Leona has a soft spot for ya. Just like he does for Jack Howl and the other nosy freshmen
When Ruggie hears, "make sure those idiots aren't causing me extra work," it translates to "make sure those idiots aren't in any trouble. go help them,"
Think good-cop and bad-cop. Leona lays bad-cop, and marionettes Ruggie as good-cop
He's sent Ruggie to do a bit spying on you a few times, not that the errand boy complained. He has personal motives for these little 'quests'. Like sometimes finding you in the most interesting positions
"Aye Aye...geez, can't you do it on your own for once?" - "Care to repeat that" -"Nothing! Nothing..."
He never sees anything horrible. Just funny situations, like when you're in a sneezing fit or rambling about the 'oh-so-generous' Crowley to yourself when you think you're alone. Ruggie always gets a good laugh at your antics when you think no one is watching
But this- okay, this scenario is a new one for him.
"You really have no sense of decency...do you, prefect" he says, looking down at you napping under a tree in the courtyard
It wouldn't be so bad, if you weren't curled around a small stuffed rabbit. He just-
Pulls out his phone and takes a picture. No hesitation. Just quickly snaps it and then crouches over you
And stares. Anyone walking by would think him a creeper, with his ears twitching and face scrunched up in concentration
You...shit. He can't keep doing this for Leona if this is what he'll find. His shriveled little heart can't handle it
He definitely plans to rub the picture in your face later, but for now he'll lay down next to you and watch the clouds. To the onlooker it looks like your both chilling, but for Ruggie it feels more intimate. He's guarding you from anyone that might disturb your rest or trying to peak at the cute sight only he gets to see
Malleus Draconia

So, this all began when Malleus asked about University life from your world. He wanted to know more about human culture and how dormitories in TW are different from what you know
Your world is definitely less exciting than Twisted Wonderland. You have to walk everywhere and don't have mirror travel? Dorms contain hundreds of students at once? No prefects? No set schedule? Who controls the chaos? That...sounds tiring
He wants to know more about the dorm culture. So you tell him about staying up late to study, coffee addiction, mutual understanding of finals stress among peers, how prefects are essentially called RAs, fraternities/sororities/etc, extra curricular clubs, bad cafeteria food, and most importantly- crashing in other dorms to escape your own.
He has never shared a dorm with another person, or a room. There were times he snuck into Lilia's room as a child after a nightmare, but he doesn't mention that to you
The 'dorm crashing,' you talk about- he wants to experience it. He wants to spend an entire evening with "friends" and enjoy a wild adventure
He nearly invites himself to spend the night in your dorm, but trails off since that would be indecent considering his...emotions
"Might I impose upon....ah. Pardon my boldness, I retract my previous suggestion,"
He wants to interject when you insist on his idea. It's improper but how can he say no when you are so excited?
And this is how Malleus ends up sharing your dorm for the night. You both set up sleeping arrangements on the floor of your room, which Grimm loves since the bed is now all his. After all, it is not a proper sleepover unless you both wake with backaches (from the floor, not what you're thinking of -_-)
You both go for a late-night walk, play a board game with the resident ghosts and Grimm, enjoy a warm beverage by the fireplace, and end the night discussing whatever thoughts come to mind.
It's the most fun Malleus has ever had. He's never experienced such a relaxed evening. Not once was there a moment of discomfort
Until you both settled in for the night, and you bring in that plush dragon. He's uncomfortable but not in a bad way
He says nothing at first and instead focuses on the crackling fire. He doesn't need as much sleep as a human, so he merely pretends until your steady breathing can be heard
He turns to look your way, watching how you snuggle into it's fur. The fire illuminating your peaceful face and blankets drawn up to your shoulders
You look so serene. No one has ever looked so calm in his presence or allowed themselves to be vulnerable. Then again- he's never dropped his guard this much around anyone other than his close dormmates. His family.
"Oh, if you only recognized these feelings I carry. Would you still allow me to witness this sight?"
He cannot help himself, and reaches over to tuck you in further and pat the dragon on it's head.
You're too precious. Welcoming a demon into your den and taunting him so...
Jade Leech

Similar to how Leona has a soft spot for you, so does Azul
You are the only person allowed back in the VIP lounge without permission. No contracts, no deals, no nothing. The space was offered in case you ever felt overwhelmed and needed somewhere to cool off
More specifically, when you first saw Azul's octopot you had mentioned missing having a safe-place, and that there was nowhere truly quiet in NRC for you to go. Azul immediately offered the lounge and instructed the tweels to let you in whenever (so long as a transaction wasn't being made. Then you could go to one of their dorm rooms)
You surprisingly took him up on the offer, and on occasion Jade would escort you to the VIP lounge for some quiet time. You'd normally do your homework in the corner as Azul worked, or fell asleep on one of the couches
Today was one of the times when Azul needed the room for work, but seeing your defeated expression convinced Jade to loan out his room
Floyd offered his as well, but it was rarely in a state to host company. So you agreed to rest in Jade's until his shift was over and he could escort you back to Ramshackle
"Please don't touch anything other than the desk and available seating. I have many dangerous specimens in here and cannot guarantee your safety. Rest well~"
It is not necessary, but he greatly dislikes you walking alone at night after closing. He will not take no for an answer, and will dismiss any rebuttal with a smile. Before you know it, you're half-way to your dorm while he is guiding you with a hand on the small of your back
After his shift, night had long fallen. He mentally prepared to once again swindle his way into walking you home as he approached his room. Though after opening the door? His plans changed
Laid on his bed, you have clearly fallen asleep while reading a light novel. In one hand is the book and in the other...a plush piece of toast?
What?
He has seen you asleep many times in the VIP lounge, but never like this. Not in his room, completely relaxed, and entirely unaware of the danger you were in. His prior warning did not pertain only to mushrooms
"Aha...my dearest, it seems you are not as conscious of me as I thought. You are fortunate that I am merciful,"
He runs his index finger along your cheek and down your neck, stopping when his hand meets the plush toy clutched in your hands. He is showing you mercy, but at the cost of more self control than his twin could ever muster
"I adore you..." He doesn't need to walk you home, because he does not bother waking you up. He instead tends to his fungi, and spends the night sparing occasional glances your way until morning
Deuce Spade

He may -or may not!- have been booted from his Dorm for a few days
He definitely did not shatter nearly half of Heartslabyul's fine china in a petty argument with one of his upperclassmen

.....
Okay, but they were trying to ditch their duties and push all the work onto him! He's just trying to live an honest life here and they had the gull to pull the 'I'm your superior now do as I say,' bullshit
He sent a cauldron their way...and well, you get the rest. He's honestly lucky that Riddle did not collar him and instead Trey sent him away for a few days. Just until tensions cool off
Which is why he's here now. At your doorstep, in the middle of the night, with his pajamas on and nothing but a backpack. He doesn't even have proper shoes on! Just slippers
Annnd he's begging you to help him out. He's stayed over many times anyways. What's the harm in a few nights? It's just that this time Ace wouldn't be around
....lock the doors. He may have followed and Deuce is not in the mood for a second argument of the day. He just wants to do his homework and get some rest
"Please! I promise you won't even know that I'm here. I'll be super quiet,"
Say yes already and tell him to stop bowing. It's pathetic
Normally when Ace and Deuce sleep over, you have the living room set up for them. Since this is last minute he'll have to bunk in your room. You don't have fresh linens and it's too late to warm the living area with a fire.
Que you both fighting over who takes the bed. You're fine with him taking it, but Grimm refuses to sleep with him. Deuce also isn't happy kicking you out of your bed.
Egads his mother would have him hung for taking his host's bed. Especially your bed - the thought sends him overboard
In the end, Grimm ends up making himself comfy on one of the recliners in the room. Which leaves Deuce to share the bed with you after finishing his homework (that you begrudgingly help with)
He's already near a heart attack when you both get into the bed. Then he watches you lean over to grab a large plush dog...and snuggle it
He has never invaded your room when sleeping over. This is the first time he's seen you so...adorable. Utterly. Adorable.
He promptly turns so your backs are facing each other, and buries his face in his pillow.. Before he realizes it, an hour has passed and the grandfather-clock down the hall is chiming. Slowly, he peers over his shoulder to see that you've turned to face his back.
" Forgive me...I don't think I can do this-"
You wake up to find him in a blanket cocoon on the floor. He was not going to get any sleep staying in that bed

Rosie's Favorite (currently finished/caught up) Podcasts:
The Amelia Project - silly, quirky, morbid but almost always more jaunty and eccentric than completely dark. Great for anyone who loves 'narrator' or interview type podcasts. If I'm not mistaken, I've posted some of my thoughts on here using the pod's hashtag.
The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbitity, and Mortality - another narrator type podcast, and probably my favorite of all time. The main voice you hear is perfect imo and keeps you engaged in all the right ways, bringing tension where it's needed, and levity where it's funny or odd. Absolutely consumed this podcast with a voraciousness I haven't felt for a bit. Keeps you guessing and always wanting more from every exhibit.
Victoriocity - excellent voice acting, interesting and unique premise and setting, and great plot. One of the podcasts I'm most looking forward to returning :) think steam punk but also it's the 1800s still in weird ways. If you love an old timey British accent, you'll love this haha.
The White Vault - probably my favorite specifically horror podcast, that makes you wait for answers in a craving sort of way, a longing to know what's going on, and not slogging through a bunch of filler to then get answers. It's great, gorey, geographically diverse fun. Interesting mashups of various cultures re: mythology, history, religion(?). Another on my list to watch out for the return of.
Midnight Burger: the quick pitch is - a time traveling diner that always services people in need, no matter what time, space, or dimension they may reside in. Excellent cast of characters, great development, wonderful implementation of a new character(s), and in general a very comfortable vibe to return to (speaking of, once I run out of recommendations I may relisten to this one). Highly recommend if you like sitcoms with time travel splashed with a bit of horror.
Edit: just finished up another one, so time to add it to the list!!
Monstrous Agonies: A radio show advice segment, about, by, and for the Creature Community. If you like WTNV, but find it a bit intense sometimes, or a bit too plot heavy/etc, you'll absolutely love this. Instead of the whole show, you just get the advice segment, but oh ho ho, is it so much more than that. If you're queer, BIMPOC, from a blended/mixed/broken/anything but 'typical' home... I think you'll like it. Very much what I would call 'easy listening', meaning you can just ease into an episode without having to remember a huge cast of characters, a plots b plots C plots meta plots... And it just feels *real*, in that strange and beautiful way WTNV does, but instead of a fictional town, the setting is the real world, with real problems, and real solutions. Sometimes you really do just need to howl or cry or chew on some slippers and that's OK. Highly recommend for ADHD havers or anyone with a short attention span who loves a soothing voice.

Wooden Overcoats - how do I even properly describe the experience of this podcast. Let's start with the basics: It's the story of twins who run a funeral parlor on a small island, in a small village. Their family has been running said parlor for hundreds of years, as the only funeral directors on the island. Until one day... They aren't. A man arrives and sets up his own funeral parlor directly across the square, and boy, do things change for those twins. If you've listened to (and loved) Victoriocity, or The Amelia Project, I guarantee you'll enjoy this one. Strange, silly, and interesting things are always happening, except this one doesn't have quite as much drama (well...... Perhaps a different kind of drama. I'd call this an interpersonal dramedy, with emphasis on the comedy). An incredible listen, through and through. I thoroughly enjoyed every single episode, and the ending was quite safisfying :)
Another EXCELLENT addition to this ever increasing list of content!!! I'm not even finished with this one, I just love it so much that I can't help but add it to the list:
Mission Rejected - you know in those spy movies, where the spy gets a secret message from HQ and they say 'your mission, if you choose to accept it...' ok great. Now imagine if 007 said 'no'. This is the story about the backups, the team that takes the missions rejected by the Top Spy Guy. It's got diverse voice acting (in many senses of the word - you can tell the voices apart, it's not exclusively straight cis white dudes, etc etc), wonderful worldbuilding, great pacing, an excellent plot, I really could go on and on. I highly recommend this specific podcast to anyone who wants something light to get deeply invested in, that has a lot of comedy but also develops the characters outside of just their bits. 100/10 no notes

Hey Riddle Riddle - exactly what you think it is, but also so much more. Three friends/coworkers who also happen to be sensational improv comedians solve riddles and puzzles together, while also introducing bits and skits and reoccurring segments, so it never feels like 'just a Riddle podcast' (whatever that means). I have laughed every single episode, which is a big deal for me (some comedy podcasts only make me laugh every few episodes, and I require at LEAST one laugh per episode). I can genuinely say this is one of the funniest podcasts I've ever listened to, and the absolute best improv I've ever heard. I'm all for committing to the bit, and this one absolutely delivers on both the commitment part and the bit part haha. Seriously can't recommend this one enough if you maybe listen to a lot of drama/horror and need something easy to listen to (easy meaning there's not a plot you have to be intensely listening for, you can just enjoy it casually). 1000/10, please listen and also tell me YOUR favorite riddles :)

Aren't you tired of forced romances with no chemistry that only take away from the actually interesting plot? Don't you just want media where romance isn't portrayed as being superior and more important than (queer)platonic relationships?
Well, my exhausted aro ass is too, so here are a few tricks and wisdoms I've gathered over my years of being a-spec (which is all of them) on how to avoid romance (in media) in a very allonormative society 💚🤍🩶🖤
(this is a rec list btw. no I am not shitting on the shows that I tagged, quite the opposite)
1. Middle Grade
I get if you aren't really into that, because it is kind of annoying to be pointed to literal children's literature when all you want is a story that isn't constantly being interrupted by describing the main guy's heated eyes for the twentieth time.
However.
It is true that in middle grade, friendship is always more important than romance. Because, let's face it. Making two eleven year old characters kiss is kinda weird. So even if there is a romance, it isn't very prominent and treated more like friendship and/or a puppy crush. Plus some stories get surprisingly dark?!?!
Examples
- Howl's Moving Castle (Diana Wynne Jones), technically a romance in the end, but mostly focused on found family, shenanigans, and finding your own value
- House of Many Ways (DWJ). Yes, again. I really like her books okay? They always have something so fantastical and whimsical about them. This is my other favorite book by her and it has literally no romance at all. Plus a hmc cameo that is so fun !!
- Coraline (Neil Gaiman). Maybe this is cheating because I never actually read it. However. a) the movie traumatized me. b) Wybie was added to the movie, he doesn't exist in the book, so if "power of friendship" isn't your thing this will be great. Probably vibes over plot.
Flyte (Angie Sage). Technically this is the second book, but I never read the first one and still understood everything. Once again, no romance at all. A fun read, which can get surprisingly dark at times.
2. Short Story Collections
Once again, I get it if it isn't your thing. Short stories are - as the name reveals - short. Which means: no worldbuilding, very limited narrator, open ending, no time to really get attached to characters, etc.
But.
The cool thing about collections, is that they always have a certain theme. And as long as the theme is not romance, romance will not be the focus. Even if there is a romantic relationship, it will be used to explore this theme since there simply isn't time for anything else.
Examples:
Life Ceremony (Sayaka Murata) This is the book that actually made me figure out: hey! I do actually like short stories !! The main theme is basically about being different and it plays a lot with body horror and the perception of your own body in contrast with how society sees it. There is even a story about two women who platonically live together and raised multiple children!
Canterbury Classics: Classic Tales of Horror (introduction by Ernest Hilbert). As the name suggests, this is a collection of horror short stories, featuring well-known authors such as Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe or Charlotte Perkins Gilman. As these are classic old tales, the language is a bit complicated at times and you can read them for free on Gutenberg. However, the book is very very pretty and the introduction is very interesting (Origins of the genre, specific tropes and monsters, etc.)
3. Podcasts
PODCASTS!!! If you follow me, you are probably already aware of those. However, in case you don't, let me introduce you to the wonderful world of Audiodramas.
The cool thing about Podcasts is that pretty much anyone can do it. All you need is an idea, a mic, a lot of motivation, and you're pretty much set to go. No producers or publishers you need to get approval from. So it is only natural that this medium is filled to the brim with queer creators. Basically every character is somewhat queer. It's awesome.
Examples:
- The Silt Verses. I adore TSV. I listened to the first season like, four times. (the second one is good too but OH MY GOD THE FIRST ONE). And one of the main characters is canonically and explicitly aro!! Sister Carpenter, I love you with my whole being. And the great thing is, it is very clear that the writers love her, too!! There is a lot (like a LOT) of body horror so it isn't for everybody. But if you think you can handle it I really recommend it. (Plus, not any romance plotlines at all !!)
- Wolf 359. This is one of the older ones and it is really good. It's a bunch of restless and very unwell people stuck in a spaceship under the unforgiving rule of capitalism. However bad you imagine it, I can assure you it is worse. But the really cool thing is that there literally isn't any romance at all. Like, there are great m/f friendships but they never even hint towards a romance. Some people are so unused to that that they literally ship the main dude with the fucking robot AI. (don't worry, not an actual romance plot).
- Girl in space. I am sure you will be absolutely shook to know that this one also takes place in space. It is about a girl. In space. Shocking, I know. Except that she has been on her own for well over a year when suddenly a fleet of strange ships arrive and kidnap her. There is also a very asshole-y robot. And questions about what makes us human. And found family!! And a goat. And cheese. Just go listen to it okay. This is also one of the shortest ones of the list, so maybe a good start.
- Malevolent. I have to confess that I personally am not a huge fan of this one? Like the premise is really cool - a detective who wakes up blind and with a demon in his head who can see through the detectives eyes. What the fuck?, you may ask yourself. So does Arthur Lester. Mysteries and other dimensions and a whole lot of pain ensues. Harlan is undeniably an awesome VA and a great writer, but his stories just seem a bit too repetitive to me? Nonetheless I know of lots of people who enjoy it a lot. Trying to define the relationship between Arthur and John (his demon) is perhaps the biggest mystery of them all. (Jk. there are multiple murders and stuff. they've really got other priorities)
- Middle:Below. This is another short one and probably the least famous of this list? It's about this funky lil dude with a ghost roommate and a cat who can talk (.....or can it?). There is a m/f friendship but it never turns into a romance (wow it is possible!!). They all go on adventures on the dimension between life and death. Despite the description, this is literally just a comedy. A bit spooky at best. Reminds me a bit of scarier kids cartoons like gravity falls.
4. "Gay" movies/series in countries with homophobic censorship
Now you may think, "hey that seems like a bit of an asshole move!". And you would be 100% correct in thinking that.
However.
It does also mean that the main relationship of the story can never be explicitly romantic. They can allude to it, they can try to show it. But they can never confirm. So it is very easy to interpret them as having a QPR. (because tbh I don't think I've ever seen one on television.)
Examples:
The Untamed. Look. I am aware that the first episode is so fucking atrocious, all right? And no, the CGI does in fact never get better. And sometimes the translated subtitles are a bit awkward. But I swear that it is so good. Trust me on this one, okay? Just make it through the first ep. It's a wild ride. Lan Zhan I love you. (However the book it is based on (written by a woman) depicts them being in an explicitly romantic relationship, with lots of very inaccurate and badly researched smut, so the fandom pretty much sees them as exclusively romantic.)
- Word of Honor. Very much in the same vein as The Untamed. Except that the first episode is less horrible. And the one dude has a very fruity fan. And they also raise a kid together. And the costumes of the villains are really fun!! I actually never finished this one tbh. I know that the book it is based on has one very extremely terrible ableist plot point, but I don't know if that made it into the show since I never got that far
The Devil Judge. The last two were fantasy, this one is a dystopia. Very tense and interesting. There is a romantic subplot (typical childhood friend vs bad boy love triangle), but he rejects the childhood friend and they can't exactly show him and the "bad boy" (who is actually a judge. and also kinda his sugar daddy) as explicitly romantic for the reason above. They also live in the same house and cook together and take care of a child together. Can totally recommend.
Assassination Classroom. A bunch of students have to kill their teacher who is an alien. that's literally the plot. I cried so hard at the finale. Nagisa and Karma have MASSIVE vibes and you can't convince me otherwise. (There is a romantic subplot that does end in a kiss, but they agree to continue as friends since those were..... extenuating circumstances. The dude very clearly is not into her). Nagisa also very aro-spec coded imo.
5. "Straightbaiting" Anime
Sometimes Anime does this thing (which I personally find very hilarious) where a boy and a girl will have no other romantic involvements or love interests while growing closer and closer, but never get together. A bit like reverse queerbaiting.
Examples:
- Fairy Tail. The ultimate power is friendship anime. That is all you need to know. (I should also perhaps warn you that the end of the last arc (and the sequel series, but we don't talk about that) are huge letdowns. Like the buildup? So good. But....welp. If that doesn't bother you too much and the idea to have a group of people be the main character instead of one person only, this may be the series for you. Just do yourself a favor and skip all the filler arcs
Soul Eater. I really love the vibes of this one. Once again, most of the fandom likes depicting them as explicitly romantic, but they never canonically are. It also reminds me a bit of creepy children cartoons. It is also where the superior fictional school exists, Devon. Frankenstein teaches there (the dude, not the monster). People transform into badass weapons. Nobody can convince me that Make Albarn is not a trans woman. However the ending deviates a bit from the manga, and I personally think the anime one is a bit worse
Noragami. This one will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first anime I really watched. This one also has people who transform into weapons, but the vibes are very different. It goes a bit more into Japanese folklore in case that interests you.
Bonus: Canonically Aro/Heavily Aro-Coded Characters
They were not anywhere above because the stories they are in didn't really fit any of the categories. But they exist!
Wolf (Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts). I adore Wolf. There is also barely any romance. Like, it will seem like it at first, but don't worry, it's only straightbaiting. There is a romance subplot but it's very brief and very much in the background. Overall very good aro show 👍
Isaac (Heartstopper) Very queer show, very high likelihood that you already know of it. The series per se is very romance focused, but as far as I've heard the a-spec rep in S2 is really good
Georgia (Loveless). Actually never read it. But, well. Title pretty self-explanatory dare I say. By the same author as Heartstopper (Alice Oseman)

I would also recommend checking out Japanese books! I personally think they are much better at writing romance than the western people lol. It's more about knowing each other and sharing your views of the world, thus changing each other and leaving a mark forever, even if the relationship ends. (studio ghibli romance vibes). My favorite Japanese book doesn't have an English translation :(

Cast Away, by Monomyth Games.
A shipwreck survival horror game that will crash you against the rocks of mysterious unknown shores and leave you asking—why me?

In this world, players step into the roles of magical nomad heroes, confronting the relentless climate, traversing diverse landscapes, and following their own unique paths.
The game blends traditional and modern styles of play, merging the classic elements of fantasy adventure — like wilderness exploration and dungeon delving — with contemporary, narrative-driven mechanics.
A character in Against the Wind has plenty of descriptive pieces that tell us about how they look, but they also have pieces that appear to matter mechanically, such as their background, role, gift, skill, and weapon. As a GM-less and solo-friendly game, much of the world appears to be procedurally generated through rolling on tables, so it looks to be pretty dense when it comes to player involvement. With all of these pieces, I’m not sure how much of this game can be labelled “crunch”, but if you’re surviving I imagine you’ll have to deal with things like the surrounding environment, inventory, and dungeon navigation, which feel pretty “crunchy” to me.
Stranded, by Rúnica Games.
The best navigators in history have searched for a northern passage to join the Atlantic and the Pacific. Many of them never returned home. You should have been the last in this line of pioneers, with a discovery that would have brought light to these uncivilized lands. But things went wrong.
A few weeks ago, the fury of the elements left you stranded between sheets of ice. Summer has been very short this year, and it is clear that you do not have enough time to free the ship and repair it to return home.

This game is still in playtest, but it’s a pretty sizeable playtest! Unlike the other games on this list, it’s situated in a very specific time and place, that of an arctic voyage in the Northern Passage. It looks like character creation occurs as you play, so you’ll have a lot of pieces on your character sheet, but you don’t figure them out all at once. I think this kind of character building might be helpful for long-term play, as you can achieve mastery over a long period of time without feeling overwhelmed by new rules or tracks.

"I'm your stray dog," Tsugaru replied before licking up the side of your face causing you to screech at his wet tongue against your skin. You rubbed at the warm sticky saliva on your face, when Tsugaru captured your wrist. He backed you up, pressing you against the wall of the room. His eyes blazing brightly before kissing you deeply. You struggled at first before melting into his warmth. Gripping his thick blue locks in your fingers.
Breaking the kiss he kept his nose pressed to your cheek breathing against your ear, "Woof."
You shivered, finally shoving him away.
"When do you leave?"
"Tonight," he replied taking back his seat like he hadn't just given you an Earth shattering kiss.
"Guess I better make you a meal to remember," you said. "Maybe my stray dog will make his way back to me one of these days if I feed him well enough one more time."
Tsugaru laughed, barking loudly as you closed the door to him. You never realized how much you needed Tsugaru in your life, until he was being taken from you. While you didn't need his protection like you had, just his presence alone was enough to show you that you weren't alone. While you knew that one day you wouldn't have him, you didn't think it would happen this soon. But you couldn't keep him from doing the things that he needed to do, to make his life better. Taking a deep breath, steeling yourself, you got to work. You wouldn't leave him with bad memories of you. And one day when he came back the reunion would be sweet and maybe he could take you away from this place. Until then you would hold onto the memories you made with him and remember Tsugaru Shinuchi how he wanted to be remembered.

Of Course Orpheus Is Here
As I have analysed Stray Gods: The Role Playing Musical, my thesis has been that this is a story about change, choice, and family. This is why Persephone is a majour player, for example, because of the symbolism of that character and the associated themes of her story. But there is one character who is so iconic to these themes that he has become the poster child for the power of love in Ancient Greek mythology.
It would have been a crime to not include Orpheus in this story. Both because of the themes mentioned above, but also because it's a musical, and Orpheus was a bard. This character was handed to the writers on a silver platter. They didn't even have to change anything to make him fit.
But they did change Orpheus. Or rather, they did give their own take on the character.
Let me explain.

Let's start simple. Who was Orpheus in the myth? I know that this may be obvious, but it's nice to have everyone on the same page and to cite some sources.
According to Britannica, Orpheus was a bard who traveled with the Argonauts to retrieve the golden fleece, and married Eurydice. After her death...
"Overcome with grief, Orpheus ventured himself to the land of the dead to attempt to bring Eurydice back to life."
Which didn't go well for him. He was told to not look back, but he did anyway, and she was gone forever. The story continues, but it's all about his dismemberment, so I'm going to stop here. Worldhistory.org backs up this story, with some added context about his brother being killed by Hercules, amongst other interesting things. I encourage you to read the articles for yourselves.
In Stray Gods, the audience is introduced to Orpheus indirectly. As in, the entire segment with Orpheus in it is a reference to the myth. Freddy, Grace's friend (and in some playthroughs, love interest) has been killed and Grace will descend to the underworld to get her back. Immediately, the parallels are obvious, and we haven't met the guy yet.

There is also the parallel between Orpheus and Persephone. Specifically, the entitlement. Both feel that they made their choice and deserve the reward almost as a payment. The opening of this song serves to remind the audience, or spell it out if they don't already know, Persephone's backstory and motivation in this musical.

This is Orpheus's introductory shot. He's standing on a cliff overlooking an empty kingdom. You want symbolism? Here it is. Everything in this man's life has led up to this, this is a life he has built for himself. Except that he hasn't built it, he's taken it from someone else and is completely unequipped to deal with it. Orpheus is not a good ruler; Orpheus is an extremely lonely man.

And yet he is surrounded by people, by fans, by a chorus. Why is he so lonely?
He's lonely because these are ghosts, both literally and figuratively. They aren't friends or companions or anything similar, they are empty adoration, and he knows. The masks they wear serve to drive this point even further, there is no individuality, they aren't people to him, they are subjects. Orpheus is trying to become like Hades.

"Someone's coming..."
"You better be ready,"
"A wolf if wating in the tune."
"He's a master of his craft"

"We have to take back..."
"I can feel them howling at the moon."
"What is mine."
Stray Gods does this a lot. Two characters singing over the top of each other. But instead of shouting to be heard, they instead swap between like they are each the backup singer for the other. This is my favourite example by far.
It serves to show off how similar the characters are, but also their conflict and differences. It's like an argument through lyrics.
And that drum. That drum that keeps moving. Steady, like a clock, beating over and over, relentlessly. The drum that punctuates their words.
Time has made enemies of these two, both victims of a cruel king, now bitterness has turned them against each other. And the ticking of that percussive clock keeps on going, as if it's enjoying tormenting them. Until all of a sudden, it is gone.

This is how you present a threat. Grace has so far been the one to control the music, the one to get answers. And now here is a man who can do the same thing.
Orpheus isn't the biggest danger to Grace at all, but the emotionally charged nature of this interaction, combined with how much fun he has doing exactly what she does, means that Orpheus is portrayed here as an outright villain. For the moment anyway.

This is a villain song. This is the cackling egomaniac explaining his plans to the audience, so they know to root against him, while simultaneously explaining how great he is. I couldn't help linking the "best that's ever been" line to Ratigan's World's Greatest Criminal Mind song from The Great Mouse detective. And like Ratigan, Orpheus is surrounded by sycophants who talk absolute bollocks to please him, because he is in command. Exhibit A:
"I haven't really sung a single word."
"No he hasn't even sung a single word."
The man has been singing for nearly three minutes straight at this point.

"What's your problem with Persephone?"
Finally, we understand some things. Why is Orpheus so bitter? Because the love of his life was taken from him, and he blames Persephone for not doing anything about it.
But take this line for example:
"And Persephone you stood right beside him and said what a shame."
Contrast that with this line from an earlier song.
"You abandoned me to a terrible fate... you know how far I bent before I snapped."
The second line is from Old Wounds, and it is Persephone accusing Apollo of abandoning her, now Orpheus accuses Persephone of the same thing. This isn't so much a literary parallel, but two literary lines layered on top of each other.

The point I am making is that Orpheus factors into this story as a warning. Choices have consequences, sure, but so does doing nothing. Apathy leads to complacency, and when victims lash out and the cause of their pain is unavailable, the people who could have acted and did nothing are easy targets.
The caveat is that this is metered by human perception, which doesn't always match reality. Orpheus has perceived Persephone's inaction as being complicit and hasn't recognised her pain. Meanwhile Persephone has done the same to Apollo. And Apollo has actually done this to himself, seeing his own inaction as a weakness, whether accurate or not.

Then there is the question of why Orpheus is so associated with rock. As in, it's fun, and this song is a genuine bop. But why was this choice made? He could have easily gone for more classical, memorial tone, or even sung a pop song. So why this? Other than because a ghost electric guitar is awesome.
"[Rock] has been a symbol of rebellion, youth, and freedom. Rock music has also been a symbol of social change. It has been used to voice the concerns of the oppressed and to challenge the status quo."

Essentially, rock is a genre about change or bringing about change. And what does Orpheus want to do? He wants to take revenge, to change his circumstances. He's been wating for this moment for years, and now he is ready.

But Orpheus is an incredibly static character, at least when he is introduced. He stews and can't move on past injuries. So, in my reading, this is what this song is, the rock here is to bring about the change in Orpheus and Persephone, in finally getting them to move on.

"If he's the victim, what am I?"
This is, in my opinion, the most revelatory part of this song and the musical as a whole. Its a lack of understanding of this basic fact: Pain is not exclusive. If one person is traumatised, that doesn't eliminate or minimise what someone else went through. Life isn't a game of who is suffering more. If you want to heal, you need to understand not just yourself, but those around you. You don't have to empathise, but seeing another victim as an opponent isn't helpful and actively harms people more.

And if pain isn't exclusive, neither is healing. It is our duty as human beings to be kind, and if someone needs help, to at least offer and be willing to give aid. We are a collaborative species. If two people are in pain, especially because of a single cause, then helping each other to heal is always an option.

That drum that I identified with time and trauma returns for most of the song, playing erratic rhythms in ways a music scholar could probably analyse with much more coherence than me. What I will say is when the two finally reconcile, they sing over each other again, but this time it's less of an argument and more of a conversation, and that drum is nowhere to be seen.
They can take this healing on their own terms, in their own time.

Final Thoughts:
I love this song, and I love that Orpheus was included here. I feel that this song is a really nuanced discussion of the effects of someone like this version of Hades. He's not here, he's dead, but his legacy remains, and that empty throne is still ruling over Orpheus and Persephone as if they are still his subjects. I hope my analysis expressed this nuance coherently.

There was Howl, back from only god knows what. He never told Sophie where he went after the sun went down- but she knew it wasn't good. Every night Howl came back he was always completely drained from doing anything. He would get his hot bath like usual before soaking in his bed for hours, even after the night completes and a new day starts.
It worried Sophie. Really, it did. She was told she shouldn't worry, but she couldn't help it. Not one bit. So after one of the nights of howl coming back, soaked, bruised and battered, it worried Sophie so much she couldn't ignore it any longer. After Howl finished his routine bath soaking Sophie Confronted Howl about what was behind the black door. Of course, Howl shrugged her off like always. Thinking that she was 'being too personal' it wasn't personal if she was worried for his well being, right..?
"You're being overprotective again, Sophie" he chuckled lightly to himself as Sophie crossed her arms. "You got some nerve saying that to me, Mr Pendragon." She said in a stern-like tone. Her face cold and unmoving. Howl then grinned. "You live once, my dear. Make enemies along the way. It makes life worth experiencing" he winked before he attempted to go by her before Sophie grabbed his arm, stopping him. "We aren't enemies, Howl. You are just a stubborn baby" she sighed, obviously frustrated. She thought for a moment, before she looked at his face. His face no longer had that grin- no, it was soft and.. vulnerable. Sophie knew what that meant.
"Hey Howl?" She asked gently. "...do you want to regress?.. you, uhm.." she paused, looking down. "..haven't done it in awhile." Howl then shook his head. "Enticing, but I'll pass" he avoided eye contact. "You sure?" That's when Howl cracked. He bit his lip, before shaking his head. Sophie smiled. "That's what I thought." Without waiting for Howl to respond, she wrapped her arms around his waist before hoisting him up to her arms. In response, he wrapped his legs securely around her hips so he didn't fall. She brought him downstairs before settling him down at the kitchen chair.
"Uh oh, he's little again! He's gonna try and put me out again! Im sure of it!" Calcifer panicked, peeking from behind one of his logs. Howl narrowed his eyes in response, throwing him a raspberry in response. "Oh, he's alright. I'm sure he's learned his lesson. Right howl?" She asked. Howl huffed. "Yes mommy.." he muttered, pouting. Sophie left the room momentarily, leaving to get howl's paci and bottle.
"Oh yeah, leave me alone with Mr loves-to-spit!" Calcifer complained. Sophie came back, smiling gently. "Oh stop it, Calcifer. Howl said he was sorry" she turned to Howl, offering his bottle. In which, he turned his head to. Sophie then frowned. "Just because he said sorry doesn't mean he's genuine! He spit on me like.. twice!" He protested, his flames growing slightly bigger.
Sophie rolled her eyes. "I'm babysitting two kids. One including you" she grumbled. "Hardy, har har." Calcifer taunted. When Sophie tried to offer Howl his paci, he declined again before resulting to the only bad habit he had: sucking his thumbs.
Sophie sighed before setting down the two objects. She gently tried to pull his thumb from his mouth, but that made Howl frustrated. In his frustration he began to kick his feet, accidently kicking Sophie. Earning a quiet yelp of pain from her. Sophie became stern, grabbing howl's shoulders gently, catching his attention.
"We do NOT kick people, Howl. Not here, not anywhere. It doesn't matter if you're angry or not, you do NOT hurt people. Do you want a timeout? Im not afraid to set you in the corner." she said sternly. Howl took a moment to process her words, anger still bubbling at his surface. With a frustrated sigh he finally nodded. Understanding his mistake. "..sorry mama.." he murmured, this time being genuine. Sophie smiled, kissing his cheek.
"You're okay, sweetheart. Just no more kicking.. or sucking on your thumb. Okay? You have your paci for that" she ruffled his hair gently. Howl had a terrible habit of biting away at his thumb when he sucked on it, this is why she resorted to pacis instead. Finally after another couple minutes of Howl arguing with Sophie, he finally accepted it and put it in his mouth. Of course Sophie had to use reverse psychology to get him to use it, but it worked right? "You're such a brat sometimes, you know that?" She smiled.
Howl hummed softly, sinking further into the kitchen seat. What was Sophie gonna do with a 3 year old in a grown man's body? Who knows

Hi! Sorry to bother you again, I'm the one who asked you a while ago if it was okay to ask for some tips on writing dialogue. Thank you so much for your availability and time 🙇‍♀️ I'm mostly curious about how you structure your dialogues and how you manage to build chemistry between the characters through banter. Do you follow a particular set of rules or does it just come natural to you? You write so many ideas and cool dialogues, how do you manage to come up with so many? In general, if you have any tips for a fledgling "writer", they are super welcome. No pressure, of course, I really don't want to intrude/steal your time. P.s. I forgot last time to tell you that I also really loved your AU fic, Party Favours. I was hooked from the first lines and I had so much fun reading it. It was a really comforting and entertaining read, like drinking a hot chocolate in winter. Honestly, thank you so much for gifting us with such a warm and funny story. 🥰☕
Hey! Thank you for being so nice about my writing and the strengths you think I have - I didn't know I had them, so it was interesting to see my work from someone else's perspective.
And also don't worry, it's not a bother to answer this question. Although I'm not sure how helpful I'll be as I have no formal training and that might mean my explanations aren't useful!!
I'll try to answer as best I can :)
I don't really have rules for chemistry, I'll be honest, but my favourite dynamic (as is fucking obvious from many a fic I've written) is overconfident flirt/straight-laced practical killjoy. Luckily for me... there are a lot of these in media (Howl/Sophie, Tamaki/Haruhi, certain flavours of Buffy/Spike, Jude/Cardan from The Cruel Prince, Labyrinth fanfiction, whatever was going on with Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries)! So I guess, if I was to give advice on that... I'd say if you really like a certain dynamic, go and look for examples of how they work elsewhere. Work out what it is about the pairing that makes your brain itch, or examine how these characteristic interactions play out, if there's any kind of formula to them - for instance, in Party Favours, the bit where Astarion is actively and overconfidently faking while talking to Threnn while Rose gets more and more flustered, was based partly on a fake relationship episode of Buffy lol. Like I didn't copy it word for word or anything, but it was an idea I saw elsewhere that I knew would be good for the pairing. .
Coming up with ideas... again, idk how idiosyncratic my process is. I maladaptive daydream a lot, and I really like scripting arguments (see above about what dynamics in fiction work for me, lmfao). i just love to hallucinate bickering, apparently. If I have any lines of dialogue that occur to me in any situation, I tend to put them into my notes app on my phone, to revisit later. If I have a scene with a particular purpose, I might look through my dialogue on my phone and try to find a series of quotes that work. Other times the maladaptive daydream for a few days might be the scene, and I'll write down any notes on what I want to happen and let it percolate for a few days before I actually write it. Sometimes pieces of dialogue will come to me before the scene does - Astarion's speech in chapter 7 of pieces happened before any of the rest of the fic, and then I was like "fuck. well. now i've got to get myself there." Mostly, this seems to just be a result of having these people live in my head rent free, but I'm also pretty autistic and so I script conversations a lot in social interactions anyway. .
Dialogue. I think dialogue comes naturally to me (see above comment about autism) and as such, I don't really follow any strict rules, I'm afraid... but these are some things I do formally try to do-
If a person is talking at someone (again, see how much I fucking love writing people bickering), you need to make sure it's not just a wall of text. Adding in paragraph breaks, even if it's a monologue, is kind of essential (speaking as someone who did not do this in the beginning, and it shows, particularly when you're reading my earlier fic on mobile rather than desktop). Often I will break it up with a one sentence interjection, a false start from the other person trying to get a word in edgeways, or a stage direction. I had a problem with one pairing I wrote for where one of the characters just would never speak... I needed to engineer lines for him to say even if it was completely superfluous. Sometimes, now I look at my writing, I feel like these are obviously fake and unnecessary... but they help break up the text and give the reader pauses. So they must be helpful, even if they're kind of just... there. it makes the dialogue a dialogue, with two people involved and reacting to each other. -
Similarly, speeding stuff up can be useful when creating banter, to keep pace and avoid people monologuing at each other. The key ways I tend to speed stuff up is usually a) characters finishing each other's sentences (derogatory or affectionate), b) interrupting each other (you'll notice my repeated 'Astarion-' is often used to get Astarion to just talk quicker and at more length and in more detail until Rose loses her goddamn mind), c) quicker back and forth where you don't need dialogue tags or stage directions bc characteristic voices will make it clear who is speaking. -
I read everything aloud as I post. This is how I proofread. Reading aloud helps me find spelling errors/sentence errors, but it also means that I have to speak all my dialogue aloud to my own wall like a crazy person. If I'm speaking it aloud in a different way, like the phrasing changes subconsciously to what's more natural in my mouth, I will often edit the dialogue to reflect that. I speak it, to see how it is spoken. -
Second to the above point, if you have a character who's voice you struggle with, listen/watch clips of their voice. I do not think I can write Lae'zel (or Gale tbh, and I'm now writing a whole fic from his pov so I clearly hate myself). I watch back clips of them all the time, and then I go to my dialogue, and see if I can hear it in their voice. If I can, I keep it. -
...Be brave enough to tell jokes. I genuinely can't tell you how much I don't think I'm funny. Every joke I write in my fic, I have no idea if anyone else will enjoy it, or if it only makes me laugh. But I put it in there, for me. I'm lucky, bc now some people tell me they found a joke amusing, and I'll know it landed with someone else other than me. But you tell jokes with your friends, presumably, and you're playful with them. So allow your characters to joke with each other, even if you're scared that no one else will 'get it'. If no one else finds it funny, at least the characters are having fun! -
Anyway, those are my main 'tips', I don't know if any of them are helpful!!
My other one main piece of advice is... read. Seriously. Even if the media you want to write for isn't a literary novel, read other people's writing, and I do mean both fic and published books, because published books (if they're good) have an editor. I read a lot of books/webtoons/manga before I ever wrote a fic... like for 12 years or something. I was a big reader, and reading good writing is useful - it's inspiring, it's also just technically helpful. These writing tips might be useless, because lot of what I've done in my own writing I've learned through osmosis - just by reading a fuck tonne of books, good and bad. I'm not saying you have to read 60 books a year or w/e, but read like, a few good books!
(also, just write a bunch. I am only becoming a 'read' fic author on my 11th project??? basically??? so I've had a lot of practice at this point, and grown in confidence. The more things you finish, the more ambitious you get. I couldn't have conceived of Pieces when I was writing my first fanfic, bc I thought plot was my main weakness... now I'm writing an almost entirely original premise and that's bc I've learned a lot since I started writing!)

VORTEX - An Analysis
Season 1/Start of Season 2 Analysis: ❗Season 1 Spoilers Ahead❗
Disclaimer: All thoughts are my own personal interpretation and contain my own theories. Additionally, this post will be of a significant length.
Starting with the Opening Chorus:
Let it unfold Will howling tides give me something to hold? On to my life when I've sunken so low Over the end of the vortex we took every breath to follow Where do we go Where do we end up when we save the world Truth in the shadows so brightened in gold Place our fate into the ones aren't in control
Starting out the season, Cheng Xiaoshi's life has been completely flipped upside down. From Qiao Ling being possessed by the other power user to Lu Guang bleeding out on their living room sofa, CXS is utterly at a loss as his life has "sunken so low." In fact, it's almost assumed that CXS blames himself for much - if not all - of what's happened as he knows the mistakes he made in the past likely led to change what has unfolded in the present. At the beginning of the season, the line that seemed to stand out the most was, "Place our fate into the ones aren't in control." This is said and fades out as CXS is falling, falling, falling and being thrown around through the chaos and void of everything around him. It fades out before hearing the word "control" very clearly and almost sets this tune of "slipping away," as if what little control he did have previously is sliding right through his fingers.

Verse 1:

This verse at the beginning of the season very much felt like a promise from CXS to LG. Especially with the lines, "Take back all my regrets," "But I'mma win this silly game," and "Knowing it all am I destined to fall? Like once you did for me." Each one of them seemed to double down time and time again on CXS's resolve to fix the problem he likely believes to have created. Throughout the verse, he's falling and the audience sees glimpses of him being tossed around once again and LG falling as well - like a mirror to CXS. It's like CXS is watching both of them plummet due to his own wrong doings. However, while these lyrics paint one picture, the actual animation seems to paint another. During this verse, it's shown that LG is the one falling alongside our antagonist and QL while she's possessed. By showing the audience this image alongside the lyrics it can be inferred that there's something else going on with LG regarding these characters. At the beginning of the season, it was likely heavily believed that it had to do with LG's life hanging in the balance. However, there always seemed to be a sinister undertone that the audience seemed to clue in on and want to understand.

Backwards Portion:
In the intro, everything goes forward and during this portion, it all goes backwards. As the song rolls into the distorted backward melody, the audience watches as CXS falls over and over again; back to the beginning. After the smallest touch from LG's hand, CXS is dropped back into the chaos the same way he might be when he enters a photo after a shared high-five. The audience watches as everything slips away from CXS, completely unable to grab or hold onto anything to stop him from falling all over again.

I'll go into more of the full song in the next section as I didn't actually listen to it until the end of Season 2.
Overall, I believed that we were about to see a season where CXS would desperately try anything and everything to save LG, but that it might all have slipped away from him at the last second. However, just as I discussed in my "Dive Back in Time - Analysis," I was severely mistaken by what was hidden underneath in both of these openers.

Once we received the knowledge that LG had dove back in time to save CXS, the way this opener was interpreted changed quite a bit as well. I don't believe it was as drastic as Season 1's "Dive Back in Time," but it certainly did change.
Verse 1:

Where, in the beginning, this verse seemed like a promise from CXS to LG, its script is nearly flipped as the audience discovers LG's secret. Once assumed to be CXS's words, it's almost certain that these are likely LG's instead or as well as CXS's. The word that really seems to prominently stick out is "undue." Why use that word? When first listening to the song, it's almost assumed that it's "undo" as in undoing the present or the past, unraveling something that was once almost certain. However, with the change of word, it changes this intention entirely. The way the word is used could imply 2 different things: 1. "A couple things undue" - Maybe a couple things that are excessive, inappropriate, or extreme that they have to deal with. Or... 2. "A couple things undue" - as in "not paid" or "not yet paid." This would be a good nod to the fact that LG had gone back in time to save CXS and his "death" is currently "unpaid." Additionally, the lyrics following: "Freeze just for a sec or two, Breathe again in the world anew," really seem to double down on that idea of CXS coming back and LG asking him to pause, wait, stay in the new world he created by going back in order to save CXS. However, once all of this starts unraveling again, LG seems to start questioning the world he created. "I guess that there was never such a thing, Like everything's meant to be." Reading the rest of the verse, it becomes increasingly more clear that this is more likely from LG's perspective and reflecting back on what is currently happening in their lives along with the decision that he made to go back and try it all over again. "Like once you did for me," really seems to seal the idea and theory that LG wanted to sacrifice himself in place of CXS at the top of Season 2.

Verse 2:
Back to me I know that you can track it back to me No matter who and what and when intertwined dive back in time The truth will remember our legacy Wasn't it hard to follow? I'd do it again tomorrow It drag me down and drag me down Maybe we'll never leave Like trying to bend water Why would you even bother Time is like music Now you know I've got to kill it Wanting it all And the whole world will crumble and fall
"Back to me, I know that you can track it back to me," immediately tips off that this entire verse desperately has to be from LG's POV. As it might have been assumed early in the season that "I know that you can track it back to me," could point towards CXS's mistakes from the previous season, knowing what LG did, this has to be about that. At the end of the day, LG knows that the choice he made to save CXS is the main node in this current timeline; and therefore, all of this can be tracked back to him and that one decision he made to go back. The next two lines heavily imply that LG knows that despite what happens in this timeline, the truth remembers their legacy (assumed LG & CXS). It's almost as if he's recognizing that this timeline might not be the truth, but that outside of this one lived experience, the galaxy, stars, truth will always remember what he and CXS were always meant to be and the true lives they were meant to carry. By stating this, it leads the audience to believe that there is in fact a true or correct timeline and that it's possible LG knows what it is. The following four lines, starting with: "Wasn't it hard to follow?" and ending with "Maybe we'll never leave," really reiterates that LG does not, under any circumstance, regret the decision that he made to go back. He may have broken his rule, but there's no remorse in doing so. LG also recognizes that the choice he made is nearly fruitless. "Like trying to bed water, Why would you even bother?" LG knows that it makes no sense that he even tried, but he talks about "Wanting it all" even though he knows that it would make "...the whole world will crumble and fall." Overall, this whole verse feels like LG basically saying a huge "fuck you" to the universe and expressing that he will do anything to ensure that a timeline where CXS is alive and well will exist.

Chorus:

By the end of the season, this chorus could easily be seen from LG's POV as well. "Let it unfold," - is this about the timeline/future that he's trying to see play out? The howling tides could be a nod towards all of the hard times they're going through as it might not be the best, but at least it's something - a timeline where CXS is alive, at least giving LG something to hold. Then, noting that his life has "sunken so low," likely because of how LG's life has dwindled to a place that he's just so desperately trying to save CXS that nothing else matters anymore. There's questions he seems to have for when they manage to set everything right and are allowed to move on. Where do they go from there? Everything LG will have fought for will have petered out and he sounds as if he might feel a little lost. Is he worried that CXS won't need him when they've managed to make everything right? "Truth in the shadows so brightened in gold." This line really feels like it's about CXS. The audience knows that CXS's eyes change to "gold" when he jumps in a picture. So, this line could possibly be LG pointing out that all of the "truth" that can be found is hidden, but may be found via CXS. As if he might be the key to "setting the truth right." Which leads to the final line of the chorus: "Place our fate into the ones aren't in control." Hearing this and knowing what place LG is in during the entire season, it could be inferred that he's placing their fate in CXS's hands and while he appeared to be the one "in control" during the season, he truly wasn't. Thus, placing their fate into the hands of someone not in control.

Closing Stanza:

It would be hard to believe that this could be anyone's POV except LG's after the end of Season 2. He's held many, many promises, rules, ideals- unbroken even in the hardest of situations. LG is presented time and time again throughout both seasons as a stickler for the rules. By doing this, it created a narrative for something like this: "I've held promises unbroken, Even when the night has fallen." While simultaneously creating a human aspect about him and allowing him to make a "human" mistake and become a "hypocrite" by breaking his own ideals to go back and save CXS. Thus, potentially leading to the next 2 lines: "Shattered mirrors our reflection, Should you keep the light on reason" LG recognizes that the shift and changes in the timeline has, in fact, "shattered" their reflection. It's almost alluded to that he's aware of the changes and multiple timeline parallels; and its even hinted at that this timeline might not even be the second or third one that he's lived through to try and save CXS. Additionally, when first listening to the line, it's curious that it's not written/sang in such a way that it sounds like "Shattered mirrors. Our reflection," as if indicating shattered mirrors being their reflection, but that "shattered" is what mirrors their reflection. Thus, giving a slightly different idea/feel to the line. It really helps drive home the idea/theory that there are multiple timelines and LG has potentially gone back and experienced a handful of them in order to bring them to the current present time. It helps the audience gauge that there's likely more information that LG knows that has been unrevealed and that the time-traveling theories are much wilder and more vast than originally imagined from Season 1. After notating the shattered reflection, the next line could be a question LG asks himself. Is it worth it to hold onto the ideals and rules when everything has shattered beyond a point he might believe to be irreparable? Is it worth it when CXS's life is on the line? How much longer should he hold onto reason while he's actively committed and continues to commit hubris in regard to their fate?

Final Thoughts:
A couple of things to note before I officially close. 1. The final "Let it unfold" feels like a call LG is making to the void/timeline. Asking for it all to show itself. To be the way it should be/he wants it to be. He's desperate to see the final outcome to the onslaught of choices and hard decisions he made to get there. 2. The line, "Over the end of the vortex we took every step to follow," really intrigued me. Looking it up, "the end of a vortex" is an actual space that exists. It's: - The phenomenon when under some conditions the vortex core deviates from the axis of the cyclone separator and attaches to the wall, where it rotates at some level above the bottom of the separator. & A flow instability that plays a crucial role in cyclone design and operation. By reading this, it's incredibly interesting to think of the fact that LG potentially believes that they've been existing and following this "experimental" space within the vortex of time. They're following this phenomenon that's still being experimented on, studied, and understood in regards to water vortexes - let alone, time-travel. It's not something that is concrete or has sound science backing it, yet, LG seems to be experimenting on his own. I believe it's interesting that this phrase was chosen potentially for this very reason. LG has likely been "experimenting" with the timeline in order to come to the end of his intended conclusion regarding CXS's life in this [time] space that is entirely unknown and untested. He's been taking them down this route and keeping them in a space that is not only unstudied but also unknown and completely unstable. Overall, I think this song really doubles down on a lot of the theories going around regarding LG and CXS, but also gives us hints and insight into information that we might not know yet as the audience. There are certain words and keyphrases used in these lyrics that really seem to tip the audience off to deeper and more profound theories that I cannot wait to see unravel in later seasons!

Let's begin.
You were just dropped here. Literally. From the fucking sky and you broke your fucking foot as a result.
You, a modern day salary person, or student, or surgeon, or sturgeon, or whatever with almost tangible question marks around your head, is clutching your pained foot. The last thing you remembered was sneakily sleeping on your job after giving up on your task at hand. You were rudely awakened by the ticklish feeling of your organs floating inside you, a rushing gust of wind against your face and ultimately a bone fracture.
Howling and sobbing from the excruciating pain, you caught the attention of more than enough citizens in the town square you were dropped in. Of course, a person manifesting from thin air and falling from the sky already had their interests piqued.
This sucks, you thought. Usually transmigrants wake up in bed, as someone else-in someone else's body, mild to severe confusion is to be expected. But generally, initially unharmed. You didn't expect to be flung down from the fucking sky with no plot armor.
Da creator argues that you do have some plot armor, you're still alive, aren't you? You would become a flattened reader patty by falling at that height if this was in real life.
Back to the plot at hand. You're suffering with a broken foot, everyone around you dress Amish, no tech in sight- still using oil lanterns to light up the place. They seem human enough for you to realize that they're frowning, gaping, gasping, murmuring and knitting their eyebrows in concern.
The more you look away from your horrifyingly twisted foot, the more you notice that... there is modern technology around! There are people wearing casual hawaiian shirts, baseball caps and a DSLR camera hung around their neck. Must be tourists from the city.
Now there are 7 ways this can go. Each path you choose will have... probably another 3 more ways. Then each will branch off again to another three more ways and so on. Da creator is not doing this game on Tumblr cause it will be a nightmare to masterlist and keep track.
I was planning to be like Degrees of Lewdity inspired, text based and using twine to do it but I know squat shit about coding. So this may probably be an empty promise, but I want to make like a visual novel out of it.
Maybe not... visual. I don't know how those talented VN artists do it, but I simply CANNOT draw all of that.
I'll probably start off strong and fall off the face of Earth doing this, my motivation is never consistent. So don't expect much, I'm just throwing this out here in case maybe in a couple months I decided to reread my crap and see this and go "hey why not" and pick it back up.
Then disappear for a couple weeks, abandon the project, reread my stuff, rinse and repeat. Keep in mind I haven't have a slightest idea how to code or any of its' jargons.
Anyways, you get to choose how to meet one of the 7 OCs.
You could either:
Have 2718 swoop in and save you from some bad guys, true to the first installment of Language Barrier. But he is not going to treat you like a mature, self critical adult, if that's what you were expecting. You're injured and he is not letting you do anything for yourself. But you find it strange that your pain is gone whenever he's touching you. You can see that he's upset over your injury, but he does whatever he can to soothe you. He's awfully quiet, don't you think?
Abacus guy comes in and act like a caretaker of yours, since you can't understand what most of them are saying due to your limited... unevolved biological hardware. And poor you, howling in pain with your ankle shattered like that, of course you're not going to notice that some of the tourists are speaking in English. Abacus guy is going to gently pick you up, coo at you and turn you into putty in their arms. They pressed their lips against the crook of your neck, suckling on a very sensitive spot. It feels good...
Oh no! His baby! Your big brother will sob, taking you into his strong arms, burying his face in your hair, muttering soft, sweet nothings to soothe you. Quickly but carefully, he zipped through the curious crowd and loaded you in his car, making sure you're comfortable with your favorite plushies and blankies. Are you thirsty? Big brother has some refreshing drinks he keep in his cooler. Hungry? There are packets of healthy snacks he neatly arranged in his car organizer. Big brother will open the packets for you if you ask, but please... please eat your painkillers first. It's going to be a long ride to the hospital and you're going to suffer. And that breaks his heart.
You noticed a shadow looming over you. You looked up to see the worried face of your beloved best friend, tears from his puffy eyes streaking down his sunken cheeks. There were dark bags under his eyes from the stress. Presumably from work and the worrying he endured while you're away. He scooped you up carefully and hastily placed you down on the stretcher prepared by the best medical team in the... galaxy? They placed a complicated looking helmet over your head before pressing a button on a metallic device. You heard muffled glass shatters after that. Each of the members held on tight to the stretcher, your best friend held onto you, hugging you tightly as he whimpers, rubbing your arm up and down. You don't know what happened, but you can't describe what you're seeing through the glass. It's like watching the world's most indescribable movie, it's not giving you any feelings of pain or fear or nausea.

You were momentarily distracted from your pain when you heard a scream looming in the distance... From above. It's getting louder and louder until you hear a devastating thud and crunch against the ground, silvery specks flew past your eyes. Accompanied by multiple gasps. Sobbing, groaning and cussing soon followed. You craned your neck to see a woman, dressed in office attire, howling loudly in pain. Looks like she shattered both legs and an arm. Strange metallic liquid ooze out of her wounds. The two of you remained on the ground, injured and exhausted while everyone else just stared. All the while, feeling that something big and bad is about to come.
When all of them have their names already, I'll change the fic accordingly. But for now, this is all I can provide. Lackluster in everything <3
Actually no, no choosing. The game chooses for you and it's all up to chance. Probably have an introduction where you get up on your own and girlboss your way out. But eventually have one of my OCs catch you.

Fandom vs. Dooku: Religious Affiliation
Okay, my first rant has been making the rounds, so I wanted to come back and do a more in-depth approach (WITH EVIDENCE). Last time I was rapidly keyboard mashing on my phone whilst simultaneously howling my grievances to the moon, so hopefully everything should be a smidge more... coherent in this one.
This is taking HOURS to type up, so everything will be split into different posts. Possibly, idk. Look I have opinions and ADHD. Gotta peel those layers back like a particularly rancid onion.

Something that Star Wars as a fandom often fails to realise is that Jedi Master Dooku (or Yan Dooku, I suppose, if that's your headcanon) and Sith Apprentice Darth Tyranus are not the same. Well, they are literally the same person, but that's not what I'm getting at. The point I am trying to make here is that a character can in fact be an inherently good guy and also a genocidal psychopath. In Star Wars, one is not born a Sith. You cannot just... be a Sith and nothing else. Much is the same with a Jedi. One is either born with the ability to reach/manipulate the Force or they aren't (Force-nulls, for sake of clarity), they are not born Jedi or Sith. Jedi and Sith are religious orders. Like Protestants and Catholics, Jedi and Sith follow the same faith but with different philosophies and restrictions (or complete lack thereof regarding the Sith; anything is game if it eventually means absolute power).
Let's take a look at the best established religious order of Star Wars in canon and Legends. Mandalorians.

In Legends, to be Mandalorian is to dedicate yourself to the Resol'nare or the Six Actions:
Wearing the armour
Speaking the language
Defense of oneself and one's family
Raising children as Mandalorian (this is the Way)
Contributing to the clan's welfare
Answering the call of the Mand'alor or Sole Ruler
Canonically, to go against the word of the Creed, such as removing your helmet to outsiders or non-clan, was to declare yourself dar'manda or No Longer Mandalorian (not stated explicitly in canon, but widely accepted in fanon/features in SW: The Old Republic). In Christian equivalent, this would be committing sin. As shown in the GIF above, one could be redeemed for "sinning" in Mandalore's living waters. Kind of like confession and repentance in Christianity.
And like the many differing dedications to the concept of God, like Jedi and Sith as you will soon see, Mandalorians have their thoughts on the Force. The only difference here is that where God is not provable beyond doubt, the Force is. Its existence cannot be denied. However, how the Force is/should be interpreted varies from person to person, from religion to religion.

The Jedi Code
Jedi and Sith also follow Creeds.

The Jedi Code places great emphasis on compassion and bettering one's self; particularly, maintaining control over your emotions and learning to let go. Here especially is where fans like to pick and choose their understanding of canon like rooting through a jar of lollipops at the doctor's to get the orange one. So, I'm gonna highlight my point here with some big ass text:

Sure, where Anakin is obviously not the prime example of what a Jedi should be, and he is clearly trying to butter up Padme to embrace his frankly awful flirting attempts, we must also remember that he had been living by the Jedi Code for almost (if not exactly) ten years at this point. AND. AND AND AND. We have IMPERICAL EVIDENCE from the Clone Wars that while not often stated outright (if at all; forgive me, I only just reached the Mortis Arc and believe me, I have OPINIONS), Jedi DO love unconditionally.

Often, their first instinct unless guided otherwise by alternate intel or the Force itself, is to have faith in those who would call upon them for help. There's literally an entire movie about Ahsoka and Anakin delivering the child of Jabba the Motherfucking HUTT back to him. They could've killed the child. Held him for ransom until Jabba conceded to a beneficial alliance. Instead, they hold to the hope that Jabba would hold to some kind of honour as a parent and allow an alliance negotiation on good faith. Jabba. A literal owner of SLAVES. Who planned, because of intel from a Sith Lord, to stab the Jedi in the back.

He is talking about Dooku, ex-Jedi, now publicly politically aligned with and the leader of the Separatist movement: AKA the "let's leave the Republic because we believe them and, by extension, the Jedi, to be corrupt" crew. He is a mark of shame upon the order. One of the Lost Twenty--Legends lore, for those who don't understand, is that there have only been twenty Jedi (including Dooku) ever to leave the Order past achieving Master status)--and yet, they still honour him as one of their own, literally saying: "he was once one of us." If that isn't a sign of unconditional compassion, then I'll eat my lightsaber collection.
I now move on to this:

To be in control of yourself and your reactions isn't to abandon emotion entirely. That is literally impossible. In fact, emotions are valuable to Jedi. However, they are taught to be mindful of how emotions can affect their logical reasoning.
When Obi-Wan Kenobi is ordered to hunt down Darth Vader, whom has just sworn himself to the Sith Lord and literally murdered possibly hundreds of Jedi Masters, Knights, Padawans, and Initiates by his own hand, he actually abandons his logical reasoning and refuses to kill the man he raised and fought beside for the last 13 years.

This is a direct parallel to Anakin's refusal to kill recently-revealed Sith Lord Palpatine, Darth Sidious. Both of these instances were done for entirely selfish reasons.
Anakin twists a tenet of the Code upon its head and refuses to kill Sidious because, at the time, he is without a weapon, and Jedi are sworn never to kill an unarmed opponent. Logically, we must reason that these rules do NOT apply to the Sith because A) they had been thought extinct and therefore didn't need exceptions written into the Code, B) it is literally proven within that very same scene that an unarmed Sith Lord is still extremely dangerous, and C) Jedi are sworn to uphold the balance of the Force within themselves and the galaxy, therefore the Sith must be destroyed. In this moment, Anakin has allowed his fear of his wife and unborn children dying to cloud his judgement, allowed the Lord to live, and subsequently doomed the galaxy.
Obi-Wan, canonically a far better Jedi than Anakin, allows his love for the man he raised to stop him from killing him. Even out of mercy as Anakin burns in the heat of Mustafar. Yes, he walks away, believing Anakin will certainly die, but again: an unarmed Sith (literally because ya boy has NO ARMS, lmao) is still extremely dangerous. Just as Maul survived from literally being sliced in half, so did Anakin survive Mustafar. Allowing love, grief, desperation to cloud his judgement, Obi-Wan has (although unknowingly until the Obi-Wan Kenobi series set ten years later) assisted in dooming the galaxy.
It is not Obi-Wan's love for his former-padawan that has done this. It is his refusal to let him go, his fear of being the one who has to kill Anakin, despite being the only one capable of doing so because of Anakin's incredible skill and power.
Despite these contradictions: Obi-Wan Kenobi is still a good guy, and Anakin Skywalker is a bad guy.
Obi-Wan would go on to repent for the rest of his life, cutting himself off from the Force to hide his presence and watch over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, even though the Lars family do not welcome him at all. And he will go to great lengths, putting himself in constant danger, to save Leia Organa. When this is all over, he will face his student one last time and sacrifice himself to ensure the safety of the children, to give the darkened galaxy just one more chance at hope.
(And, as an aside, Obi-Wan's final sacrifice is also to teach Luke about the Jedi tenet of letting go and dedicating yourself to something greater than your own wants and physical being, just as Qui-Gon did for Obi-Wan decades before.)
Anakin, in the meantime, Darth Vader by this point, is literally running around blowing up planets. Let me repeat that: BLOWING UP PLANETS. With billions if not trillions of lifeforms on them. And also murdering Jedi Purge survivors. And, you know, killing basically anyone that doesn't agree with the rule of the Empire. Also, enslaving a lot of people. Like, a lot of people. Including the clones he once thought brothers until he... idk, kills them all? They all die of rapid old age? I'm not exactly sure what happens to them.
Obi-Wan loved unconditionally. He was compassionate. As was in accordance with his Creed.
Anakin Skywalker was possessive. He loved only that which he wanted and that which loved him in return, but only if it was love to his standards. Obi-Wan, who surely loved him as a brother and a son, tried to stop him from taking the galaxy, therefore he had to destroy his former Master.
This is what attachment is.
Unwillingness to let go of something you can no longer have.
Do you pro-genocide fans think Obi-Wan wanted Qui-Gon Jinn to die? He literally cradles him in his arms and cries, for goodness' sake. And do you know what Qui-Gon does in his last moments? He does not fear for himself. He does not tell Obi-Wan everything will be okay. Because he knows it will. He knows Obi-Wan will be okay. Because his padawan will mourn, but he will also accept that it was Qui-Gon's time to pass into the Force. And he knows that Obi-Wan knows that he will always be with him in the Force. There is no death. There is the Force.
What he does instead is so loving and compassionate and so caring. All he wants in his final moments is to make sure that Anakin, the boy in his care, will be safe.

The Sith Code
We have a better understanding of the Jedi Code than we do the Sith, largely because Sith are chaotic pathological liars who constantly break their own rules.

Like Satanism to Christianity, the Sith Code stands as a direct and deliberate contradiction to the Jedi Code.

Pretty big differences there.
One of these Creeds is dedicated to learning, maintaining balance in the Force, and achieving personal betterment through peace of mind. The other is dedicated to becoming strong, powerful, and unbeatable by comparing putting the needs of the many before the wants of yourself to slavery.
I'll let you take a guess which one is which.
I mean, it is almost explicitly said that an important initiation process for becoming a Sith is to fucking murder a Jedi. In Tales of the Jedi, which is considered canon in the current state of the series (meaning should someone with authoritative control over Star Wars later retcon this, then it will no longer be canon), Dooku kills Master Yaddle as his official initiation after the death and funeral of Qui-Gon--don't forget, before this point Dooku may have been Fallen, but he was not Sith until Sidious loses Maul as an apprentice. Say what you will about Palps, but you gotta give him credit for abiding by the Sith Rule of Two, otherwise the galaxy would've been a lot more utterly fucked than it was. Until this was canon, anyone who was not versed in Legends lore (AKA me) generally headcanoned that Dooku murdered and assumed the identity of Sifo-Dyas for his Sith initiation.
Also, I feel it is imperative to note that the Sith Code was literally inspired by Mein Kampf. You know, ADOLF HITLER'S MANIFESTO. Need proof? Here, straight from the Star Wars Wookiepedia:

What's The Point?
I've been writing for almost 3 hours and I'm only JUST getting to the bit that's actually about Dooku. Let's take a breather and re-establish some points:
Jedi and Sith are religious Creeds
You are not born Jedi or Sith
To be Jedi or Sith is to make CHOICES that align with the tenets of the Creed
To be Jedi is to be compassionate, mindful, and a protector of those who are defenseless
Jedi have rules and regulations to protect their Order from corruption and abuse of power
To be Sith is to put your wants first, to become all-powerful, and to be victorious over all others
Sith do NOT have rules and regulations (that they actually follow faithfully aside from the Rule of Two, which is broken by Dooku multiple times anyway)
Got it?
Cool let's move on.
This is what I mean by the separation of Jedi Master Dooku and Darth Tyranus. On the matter of Dooku, the fandom largely seems to be divided between:
He was manipulated by the Sith! He was actually a good guy who knew the Senate was corrupt! He was just trying to save the galaxy!
And:
He was a shit Jedi and everyone should've known he was Darkside. He abused Qui-Gon. He abused padawans. He hated children. He didn't Fall because he was always evil.
My guys.
My dudes.
My homies.
Just... WHAT?
For point A, I present to you:

He literally just threatened murder. Actual murder. In another scene, season 1, if someone could find the GIF that would be fantastic, Dooku says he wants the death of the Jedi. All of the Jedi. He wants to slaughter children, the people he once considered family. In season 4, to Savage Oppress, he offers the galaxy. "We will rule the galaxy together." That is a dictatorship. These are not the signs of a healthy man doing what is best for the people. This is selfish desire. This is Sith Creed.
For point B:

A man who did not love his padawan, his pseudo-son, would not have visited their favourite place on the entirety of Coruscant upon their death. This was inconvenient. Him visiting this tree when he shouldn't have because he'd just infiltrated the archives and deleted evidence of Kamino brings suspicion upon him that he could've avoided by simply staying away. But he couldn't. He had to go one last time.
He also, in Attack of the Clones, expresses regret at never meeting Obi-Wan before then. Qui-Gon always spoke very highly of him. Yes, because an abused child whose evil, evil master, again, abused him, would ever speak of his own child to said-abuser. Dooku may be a Sith of a decade by that point, but don't forget that Sith are entrenched in negative emotion. We have no idea what he was feeling meeting the son of his son for the first time. He could have easily murdered Obi-Wan before Anakin and all of the Jedi arrive. He later tries to multiple times. The first thing he does is offer an alliance. An apprenticeship. He even tells Obi-Wan the truth of Palpatine in the Senate, not that he (Obi) has any reason to believe him (Dooku).
Again, what's my point?
My point is that he is both a good guy and a bad guy.
He can be both.
He was once good. He Fell. He was not always one or the other. Because that is how Star Wars WORKS. His doubts over the Senate, his fears that the Order is falling to darkness, his utter grief at the death of his child; it crippled him. He could not overcome the Darkside. And so he Fell. Perhaps originally he had good intentions.
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions after all.
Eventually, the anger, the grief, the fear, corrupted him. As is how the Darkside works. Yes, it is a choice. It is a Creed he chooses to follow. But to walk back from the Darkside is also a journey that requires incredible strength.
In canon, only one achieves it. Anakin Skywalker.
Early on, perhaps Dooku could have been saved. But by the time of Attack of the Clones, he is utterly corrupt and evil and literally planning an absolute takeover of the galaxy. He is far beyond redemption.

out of character. Frembly remembly that while I may write Gin and Rangiku being soft / cute, that doesn't change the fact that Gin commits a few problematique relationship crimes aside from his canon betrayal... including, but not limited to:
Stalking -- it's not always outright following her around, but keeping constant tabs on Rangiku via locking onto her reiatsu at any given moment is still lowkey stalking behavior in my book.
Possessiveness -- this is mostly my own interpretation and it's pretty subdued at most times, but there have been a few points in my roleplay where I have it flare up nice and ugly; this is the Ichimaru Gin who says he devours his favorites whole, this passion of his can easily become possessive and obsessive lust and fully envelop Rangiku in a strangling grasp.
Honorably mentioning Obsession in its own bullet point because of how potent that can be when blanketed across his entire vow to retrieve her soul piece being based entirely on him deciding, as a child, that this was the hill to die on, to murder for. For a girl he just met, that's a lot.
Murder! Gin killed those Shinigami that assaulted Rangiku as a child, they're shown to be the ones Gin plucks a Shinigami robe from in the blizzard when he tells Rangiku he's going to 'fix things' for her. The following murders Gin dishes out for the Third Seat and many unnamed others aren't directly linked to Rangiku/for the sake of Rangiku alone, so I won't count them specifically here, but those three/four guys? Hell yeah. We can argue they had it comin' and I'll agree, but it's still Problematique that he killed them 'for' her.
Emotional Withholding -- again, not quite in the outright and proper way that is prevalent in toxic and abusive relationships (often used to convey anger/punishment via that withholding), but he's withdrawn from her during the Rescue Rukia arc in a way that is specifically distressing and confusing for Rangiku, who knows Gin isn't behaving like himself, and he's refusing to communicate anything to her during that time. A blanket apology before abandoning her on Sokyoku Hill doesn't cover it.
Abandonment. Because of the lasting effect it had on Rangiku, this is considerably awful and something that could have at the very least been eased via him explaining himself to some vague degree rather than not at all, leaving her to wonder where he was going, what he was up to, and why he didn't tell her shit. The argument could be made that he didn't want to unnecessarily lie to her, but he's already lying to her in other ways.
Deflection via Twisting, turning Rangiku's questions onto her instead of allowing her to properly drill into him when she finally confronts him on the rooftop, which then subsequently leads to guilt-tripping topped with a cherry of "you're in the way," that's overall an awful thing to say/do AND THEN POINTING SHINSO AT HER AND --
Threatening Bodily Harm. This one's getting put on here because at the end of the day, regardless of Gin's intent to skewer Momo and not Rangiku, Rangiku still put herself between them and it still happened where he almost hurt her instead. The second time being on the rooftop, where he pretends to kill her via a well-aimed Shinso with a simultaneous Hakufuku, but the act is so well guised that Rangiku, in that moment, thought Gin was going to kill her.
But joke's on you, Ginran makes me froth at the mouth and howl at the moon before barreling at you on all fours, so... if you can't get past these fictional flaws? Skill issue tbh.
