lines and circles
where lilia falls for a human who is reborn again and again, each life a new life lilia witnesses on the sidelines.his life is like a line. yours is like a circle.
~lilia vanrouge x reincarnating!gender neutral reader~
does this remotely make any sense? no idea. will i still post it because the me months ago wrote this at 2am thinking she was cooking? yes, i will

if lilia were to describe it in simpler terms like he would when explaining something to silver during his younger years...
he'd describe it as if you were a circle and he were a line drawn on the same aging paper. next to each other, yet never touching. together, yet never intersecting.
your circle would loop on and on, starting over at each loop. endless and sure. perfect and for all time. there was no start nor end to your existence, yet still the little world of the aging paper refuses to let you reach the line drawn beside you.
lilia's line.
now, lilia's line—although also endless like your circle—continues on in the same path he's been assigned by whoever oversaw the world you both split but never shared. unlike you, his line is not in a loop. his line travels infinitely and retains everything he sees. he passes your circle, watching you start over, and over, and over, and over again until even he feels much too empty seeing you repeat the same life in a reoccurring path... never-changing, and never-ending.
he supposes that was the most devastating thing about your life as a human. it was your destiny to start and end life in an endless loop like a circle with no ending but its distance still going nowhere. you could walk along that same spherical path, but you still would never reach the end. the end to your cycle of life and death.
you live, you die, and then you're reborn again. that's how it has always been.
lilia knew it would be like this from the start. from the moment he first met you years and years ago, he knew that—unlike him—your life would be short but repetitive, while his was never-ending. never reaching, never touching, never grasping.
all he can do is stand by and watch as your lives begin and end until even his life can't take it anymore.

I saw a tiktok created by @dust_hollow (go watch the videos there obvious what their about) talking about his theories on what Lilia’s inspired by and I was up all night thinking about what he said. Dust spoke about how he’s not just inspired by the three good faeries but the lilac faerie from Mathew Borne’s “sleeping beauty, a gothic romance.” It makes complete sense after I watched the ballet because… well I’m not going to spoil it for you,
and the three good faeries are the resemblance of the Lilac faerie in the original ballet (in the sense of them both changing the curse from death to sleep) or so I assume. Not only that but after reading “Mistress of all Evil” by Sarina Valentine, I noticed he was like Nanny to Malleus in the sense of calming him down and taking care of him as a baby dragon, like how Nanny in the book raises Maleficent like her own daughter even though shes only found Maleficent with her ravens which brings me to my next point.
I believe he’s based off of Diavel (not specifically Diablo from the cartoon Sleeping Beauty) From the movie Maleficent. And no Diablo and Diavel aren’t the same characters and I’m not arguing with anyone about this I don’t care. I believe Lilia is based off of Diavel from the live action because of the way he treats Malleus, he’s kinda like a father more than anything but I whole heartedly believe if Malleus (or his mother I’ll get there later) asks then he shall receive. He’s inspired by the goons as-well, along with Sebek and his grandfather. Lilia is often frightened by Melenors temper and even gets hit by her lightning (lovingly) at some point! And he knows Malleus most likely has her temper as well. When it comes to trying to figure out what he’s based off of I believe it’s a whole mixture of things.

Silver’s eyes fluttered open against the faint firelight of a campfire.
“Ah, you’re awake.” Silver turned his head to look into bright ruby eyes. The bat fae was minding the fire while sorting through a pile of herbs at his feet while Silver’s head rested on his lap. Silver shyly pulled away as the other continued to speak. “The others went to grab firewood and water.” Silver nodded to show he heard as he tried to get his mind focused.
“Hm. Why are we...ah.” He remembered now.
The secret stairway, the underground lad filled with blood and black, the corpses of people all stitched together to look like him and--
Silver’s skin turned gray at the horrifying images that appeared in his mind, shivering as a sharp chill filled him.
“Silver? Are you alright?” Lilia cupped Silver’s face and turned the other to look at him as if the action were natural. To his own surprise, Silver didn’t flinch away from the touch. As strange as it was, it was also...
“Hmm… you’re a bit green,” Lilia muttered, namely to himself. “But that’s to be expected after that horror show. Do you need to throw up?” Silver shook his head as he tried very hard not to remember that “horror show.”
“I’m fine. It’s just... I can’t believe that my father...” No. No, that man wasn’t his father.
Silver didn’t have a father.
Silver didn’t have anything. He didn’t have a home or a family—all he had were lies.
Everything Silver knew was a lie.
His father wasn’t his father, but a kidnapper who stole him while he was on a school trip. The villain then brainwashed the teen into believing he was the man’s son.
Silver lived unaware of this for a while, until one day Lilia and a few others appeared. The first meeting had been baffling, as Silver had no idea who they were—and still didn’t, to be honest.
He thought that they had mistaken him for someone else and was correcting them when his—when the man he thought was his father arrived. The two cleared up the misunderstanding and went home.
However, the strangers hung around and began approaching him more and more, until one day Silver invited them to his home.
It was then that Silver learned the truth.
The group found a staircase, and at the insistence of the curious Ortho, the group investigated and discovered his father’s mysterious lab.
In it were angry ghosts, trapped by his father, strange monsters—that Idia called Phantoms—and, worst of all, reanimated corpses that looked like Silver.
From then on, the mystery was unveiled, and everything Silver thought he knew was shattered, leaving him with nothing.
Silver noticed Lilia go stiff when he mentioned fa—that man.
“...Yes, it’s quite a shock, I’m sure.” The fae’s smile was tight and quivered as it hid a clenched jaw. The memory of the madman brought a dangerous gleam to the man’s otherwise kind eyes. He closed them as he stood, turning away to dust himself off.
“Well! Some food should help settle you,” he said, his tone a bit too bright. “Luckily, there are plenty of herbs and stuff, so I should be able to whip up something.” A primal fear rose inside Silver.
“Ah! No! That’s okay! I can do it! Please let me do it--” Lilia laughed as Silver jumped to his feet like a scared rabbit.
“It’s fine; I don’t mind at all!” He “assured” the other.
“But—”
“It’s okay! I enjoy cooking. Besides, there’s no need to push yourself. You went through a lot today.” Unable to convince the other, Silver slumped in defeat.
It wasn’t like Lilia was wrong; he felt sick from all he saw—the vile smell of corpses still in his senses—and his body was more exhausted than ever from running.
Lilia fussed over him a bit more before going to start cooking. Silver watched him closely as he did so.
‘He’s always taking care of me.’ Lilia was always the first to inquire about his condition, to protect him when the need arose, and he was the one to ground Silver whenever the boy lost his footing. Silver owed him a lot.
‘But why? Why is he so concerned for me?’ His brow furrowed in thought. Silver knew he felt some sort of connection to the other, but it was hard to understand exactly what that was.
Wanting to figure it out, he had asked Ace, but...
“Ah, well, I’m not sure, but—I think you two were dating or something.” After hearing this, Silver felt like a boulder was dropped on him, and his brain stopped working for quite a while.
The teen hid his face between his knees.
‘Dating…?’ Silver’s body turned hot pink as his body heated up with embarrassment.
The idea… it felt so wrong.
He had no idea why. Lilia—as he frequently bragged—was adorable as sin. On top of that, he was strong, skilled, talented, and more. Anyone—especially someone like Silver, who was dull and not very interesting—would be lucky to date him.
‘Even so...’ His face and neck felt hot. The very idea felt wrong somehow. But why?
If he thought logically, it lined up with everything. Why else would Lilia go through everything he did—even risking his life—to help Silver if there wasn’t a personal connection? Not to mention all the soft touches, the brushing of his hair, and the way Silver always felt safe and light in the other’s presence...
“Your skin is changing color,” Lilia noted, pulling Silver from his thoughts. The other was beaming at him, but Silver could see that he was trying to veil his worry. “Are you catching a fever?” The fae made to touch him again but stopped himself as Silver—who was shy from his thoughts—flinched away. Silver regretted it, though, as he saw the hurt that flashed across the bat’s face. One Silver realized he had caused quite often as of late.
He made to apologize, but Lilia forced a smile before he could, pulling his hand to his side, where it curled into a fist.
“Don’t force yourself to stay quiet if you’re ill,” he continued. “That’ll cause more trouble in the long run.” Silver’s gut sank.
“Sorry...” he mumbled.
“It’s okay. I understand that things must be overwhelming right now,” Lilia sympathized. “But I’m here if you need to talk...and so are the others.” He added it as an afterthought. Warmth filled Silver’s chest, and it gave him the courage to voice his queries.
“Actually, there’s something I would like to talk to you about,” he said, deciding that getting straight to the point would be best.
“Oh?” Lilia watched him curiously, folding his arms as he gave the boy his full attention.
“Hm. I spoke to Ace about our relationship...before my memories were lost—no, altered, right?” He watched Lilia fight to keep his expression blank, but even then, his grip tightened on his folded arms. Silver took a deep breath before continuing. “He said that we were dating before my memory loss…” Silver trailed off, unsure of how to continue, as Lilia reacted to his words.
The fae’s skin paled to pure white marble just as he tipped to the side, falling.
“Ah!” Silver reached out, but the other regained himself before hitting the ground but began to sputter like an engine as he choked on the tongue he just swallowed. Finally, he managed to speak clearly.
“NO!!” he exclaimed, his voice nearly a screech that made Silver flinch back. He tried to hide it, but his face was frantic, and his eyes were wild as he hid it behind a smile.
“No! That’s! That’s NOT our relationship at all, I assure you!” He said with a look that was absolutely not promising a swift death to Ace later.
Silver was taken aback by how quickly and loudly the other person was denying the information. He frowned a bit, pouting.
‘He doesn’t have to take the idea so hard...’ Even so, Silver felt a bit relieved by the news as well.
And yet…
He ducked his chin low, gnawing at his lip before speaking again.
“Then... what is our relationship?” The question seemed to stun Lilia, but Silver pressed onward.
“You went through so much to find me and reveal the truth,” he continued. “And in the lab, you went above and beyond to protect me, even placing yourself in harm's way to do so.” A hand tightened over his chest as Silver recalled the memory of Lilia jumping to defend him from an attack.
“You went through all that and more for me. Why?” He lifted his head and stared pleadingly at Lilia with eyes that shone, begging the other to fill the empty gaps in his mind. “What am I to you?”
Lilia stood frozen, the words hanging between them. The other’s eyes were wide as he stared down at Silver, who was still kneeling before him. Then, after a beat, his gaze became distant and wistful, his expression soft, and yet...
Lilia reached a hand out, his fingers lightly dancing across the teen’s cheek. One of many familiar touches from a time lost.
“You’re my…”
“Oiii! We’re back!”
The two turned to greet the teens, who were carrying a large stack of wood.
“Silver! Come help us!” Sebek barked. Silver pushed down the disappointment that rose inside him as he scrambled to his feet.
“Coming!” he called back with a sigh.
Lilia watched as Silver ran to help the other two, his gaze somber. He then closed his eyes and lifted a palm to his aching heart. In his mind was a memory of a sweet little boy with an acorn bracelet and a bright smile.
“Daddy! Daddy!”
Fighting the urge to cry, Lilia opened his eyes and whispered:
“You’re my...”
--
I'm just going to write a quick angst, I told myself. Then I wrote over 1500, lol. Basically, Silver got kidnapped by the title character of Mad Father and got his memories altered to forget his past. Lilia and the others saved him, but the lad still has no memories of the past. Still, that's not going to stop Lilia from looking after his baby.
