You had always been a meek child. And it shocked everyone you would meet.
It had a lot to do with the fact that your parents were both extremely outgoing. They were loud, adventurous types who loved trying new things. It wasn't difficult to see how they were soulmates. They were practically cut from the same cloth. But you, you often made people lose the plot. You didn't act like your parents' daughter at all.
You had always been very shy. It had taken you forever to make friends in daycare, and even longer once you entered kindergarten. Kids were too loud and too messy. So you preferred to keep to yourself. The few friends you had were because someone else would take you 'under their wing' somehow.
You got better as you grew up, though you could still technically be considered an introvert. You hated that word. Hated how limiting it was and how it put you into a box. You weren't an introvert. You had friends that you loved hanging out with and spending time with. You didn't prefer being alone. You loved companionship.
You just didn't think you were interesting enough to deserve it.
So you stayed in your little circle of dedicated friends, girls you had met as a little kid and stuck by all through elementary and middle school. But towards the end of middle school, something happened that changed your life forever.
You met your soulmate.
Well, 'met' was a strong word. You saw him, from afar. You laid eyes on him, felt that electricity shoot up inside you, the mantra of 'soulmate, soulmate, soulmate' repeating in your head. It was the same pattern of feelings you were told your whole life that you would feel. Down to every last detail. Yet your brain couldn't accept it. You couldn't believe the obvious signals your body was sending you. It just couldn't be.
Your soulmate was…… Oikawa Tooru?
The Oikawa Tooru. Kitagawa Daiichi's star setter. The best player their school had seen so far. You had seen him while he was receiving the award for best setter. When your eyes had settled on him for more than 5 seconds, signaling to your body that you were looking directly at your soulmate. You were frozen in your spot, obscured in the crowd of students seated for the ceremony. Watching as Oikawa accepted his medal and his shield. The center of attention, the smile on his face bright and warm.
You in the bleachers, clapping mechanically, no different from anyone around you. Blending into your surroundings like you had your entire life.
It took you many, many weeks to get used to the idea that Oikawa Tooru was your soulmate. Your other half. It just didn't sit well with you. You had seen soulmate couples your entire life, including your parents. People with similar tastes, more or less matching personalities, so in love and so in sync.
You and Oikawa were worlds apart.
He had a gentle charm to him, easy going smile and bright, bright brown eyes, hair so casually wind swept, the color of warm chestnut. He was tall, lean, enough to command a room the second he entered it. It almost seemed like he had a spotlight on him at all times. As you watched him from afar, cracking jokes and laughing loud, annoying his friends and greeting his fans, you realized just how different you two were.
You were, in every sense of the word, average. You weren't confident, but you could speak your mind when you wanted. You weren't ugly, but you weren't exactly a head turner. You were so….. mediocre. Especially compared to someone as rare and wonderful as Oikawa Tooru. There's no way you could match up to him.
You didn't deserve him. And more importantly, he deserved so much better than you.
You never dared mention to anyone that you knew who your soulmate was. Your friends would hound you forever and your parents would be flabbergasted that you didn't tell him yet. You didn't have it in yourself to explain to them why you didn't. It made sense in your head, but you had enough awareness to know that other people would say it's utter bullshit. You didn't want to deal with that. Someday, Oikawa would give up on finding his soulmate and settle down with someone else. Someone who could fit into his shiny, busy world. All you had to do till then was stay out of the way. This was for Oikawa's own good.
You knew fate was testing you when you unintentionally ended up at the same high school as Oikawa. You had nearly done a double take when you saw him in the halls, talking to that spiky haired boy he was friends with, basking in the admiring looks of multiple girls that walked past him and waved at him. It made you sigh. It's like every time you saw him, you were reminded how much better he was than you. And all it did was strengthen your resolve to stay miles away from him.
You managed to successfully avoid Oikawa for many months, which wasn't hard considering your straightforward routine. You didn't like leaving class for no reason. You had lunch at your desk. You weren't part of any clubs so you would go straight home afterwards. Also owing to the fact that Oikawa appeared to be the busiest person in the world, it made your life much easier.
You should've known it wouldn't last long. It seemed the entire universe was conspiring to get you closer to Oikawa. And the universe had sent Matsukawa Issei to do the job.
Matsukawa was in the same class as you. He sat next to you in the back row and dosed off during most of the lessons. You thought he was incredibly amusing. Especially when he would sneak food into his mouth during classes and try to chew it without the teacher noticing that his mouth was moving. When you would try to hide your grin, he would wink at you and offer you food too, and both of you would munch on it while you waited for lessons to be over. He was very laid back and easy going, yet had a lot of confidence. In an ideal world where you weren't so anxious, you liked to think you would be a lot like him.
You never would've dreamed that someone so naturally lazy would actually be part of a sports club. Especially not volleyball. The thought never crossed your mind. Had you known, you wouldn't have touched him with a ten foot pole. But you made it a point to stay as far away from Oikawa and volleyball as possible, so you didn't know. Big mistake.
The midday sun was beating on your head as you stood waiting at the school gate. You tried leaning against the wall but the brick was burning up, making you yelp and jump away. You scowled at your phone, staring at Matsukawa's name before hitting Call. He picked up after only two beeps.
"Y/N-?"
"Where the hell are you, Issei? I'm getting cooked in this heat!" You whined, feeling your scowl deepen. You watched students bustle out of the gate, eager to get home and away from the sun. There was a short pause on the other end of the line before Matsukawa spoke again.
"Oh shit."
You groaned out loud at the words, knowing exactly what he meant.
"Issei, I need those notes! We have a quiz tomorrow and you promised me you would give them back after school."
You could hear Matsukawa panting on the other end, making your eyebrows furrow. Was he running?
"Listen, Y/N. I left my bag at the gym. The team is out on a run right now and I think we will be back in maybe ten minutes? Why don't you go wait at the gym and I'll give it to you when I come-"
"Wait," you cut him off. "What gym? What are you talking about?"
More huffing. "Oh yeah, you don't know. I'm in the volleyball club. Go wait for me at the gym."
You stilled, blinking once, before the implication of his words sank in and panic gripped your chest. "No, no, wait! I can't go there. I'll wait for you at the gate and you can just come give it to me-"
"Coach won't let me leave the gym during practice time. What's the big deal? It'll take two minutes-"
"No Issei!" You cut him off, feeling cornered. "Keep the notebook. I'll get it from you tomorrow."
"But what about the qui-"
You hung up.
Your heart was beating a mile a minute, thoughts racing. That was so close. So close. You had unintentionally become friends with Oikawa's teammate. And you had no clue. Panic gripped you as you realized what this meant. At any given time, Oikawa could've seen you. He could've walked into your classroom to talk to Issei about something and laid eyes on you. Then he would've known.
The walk home was shaky and disorienting. You felt frustrated with yourself at this game you were playing. Trying to stay away from the boy this universe was begging you to be with. Someone your heart also desperately wanted, but your insecure, anxious brain was constantly yelling at you to stay away from.
He's too good. His future is too bright. You'll ruin him.
You were so tired.
The quiz ended up being pretty easy, considering the fact that you didn't study for it at all and spent most of your evening crying, then watching some shitty comedy on Netflix that didn't make you laugh at all, going through your snack drawer like an madwoman and finally falling asleep, where brown eyes plagued you in your dreams for the rest of the night. You thanked the gods that you had nothing good to do in your life and hence spent most of your time studying. It meant you did pretty well on your test despite doing nothing to prepare for it.
If there was one thing about you that was way above average, it was your brain.
Issei was looking at you weirdly throughout the day, and he finally spoke up at lunch, something you had been dreading.
"You wanna tell me what the hell that was yesterday?" He crossed his arms, staring at you so hard you were afraid he could take a peek into your soul.
"What the hell was what." You deadpanned, avoiding his gaze.
"Don't be daft. You nearly had a panic attack when I told you to come meet me at the volleyball gym."
You cringed at the word 'volleyball', sighing deeply. "I just didn't want to make the extra trip, it was really hot outside-"
You stopped talking when Matsukawa abruptly sat up, eyes narrowed at you. "You're bullshitting me. Tell me the truth."
You felt your cheeks heat up in embarrassment. "I am telling you the-"
"I'll drag the entire volleyball team here if I have to." He drawled, a challenge in his voice. "You freaked me out yesterday. And it has something to do with my club. So tell me, or I'll find out somehow."
You felt your heart race. Dammit. You couldn't think of anything else. You couldn't think of a lie to placate him. And as you stared into his dark eyes, you knew you had lost.
Matsukawa Issei became the first person to know who your soulmate was.
He had dragged you out of the class after lunch break. There had been too much to unpack in that short amount of time. You hid behind the school overlooking the grounds, telling Matsukawa everything, like word vomit that you couldn't stop. You realized as you talked just how desperate you were to tell someone about all this. You had kept it in for so long that just saying it all out loud seemed to lighten your load.
A thick blanket of silence fell on you two when you finished, nearly out of breath. You watched Matsukawa intently as he stared out at the grounds, one leg pulled up to his torso and resting his arm on his knee. He sighed heavily, running a hand across his face.
"For someone who gets the best grades in our class, you have got to be the dumbest person I have ever met."
You blinked at his words, shocked. "Huh?"
He scowled deeply at you, shocking you even more. He looked almost angry.
"You think you know better than the universe? You think you're smarter than fate?" He raised his voice, looking pissed. "How can you think the gods were wrong when they paired you with Oikawa? And to make this huge decision, without even considering how Oikawa might feel-"
"How dare you." Your voice trembled, feeling tears prick at your lash line. "All I did was consider how Oikawa might feel. I put my own feelings aside-"
"What the hell makes you think this is what Oikawa wants?" Matsukawa raised his voice even more, nearly swelling up in frustration. "You don't know him. You don't know if he wants you. You can't make this decision for him!"
You reeled at his words, blinking your tears away furiously. What the hell was Issei implying? That Oikawa could actually make any alternative choice? It couldn't be. Why would he want you?
Issei's face was softening, watching the emotions flit over your face.
"Y/N," he continued. "You're my friend. I'd like to think I know you. And from what I've seen, I guarantee you that there is not one thing about you that Oikawa won't like."
"But I-" You drew in a trembling breath. "We're so different."
Issei snorted and shrugged. "Trust me, he needs that. Or his head would get too big for his own body to carry."
You two stayed silent for a bit, letting Issei's words wash over you like a cold shower after a hot day. Your heart was screaming at you to believe him, but your mind wouldn't let up. You heard him sigh and stand up, stretching his arms above his head. How long had you been out here anyway? It felt like hours. Was school over? What time was it?
"Alright, let's go." You snapped out of your thoughts at his words, blinking owlishly up at him.
"Go where?"
He didn't answer, waving your question off like he was swatting a fly before he grabbed your arm and pulled you up to your feet, not giving you a moment to breathe as he led you away.
"Issei-"
"Shut up. I've heard enough outta you." He didn't look back at you. You felt a sting of indignation, falling into silence and letting him drag you. You felt so burnt out.
You only tuned back into the present when you heard the squeaks and thuds on hardwood floors, tensing up when Issei climbed the three small stairs leading to the open volleyball gym doors. He tugged your arm when he realized you had stopped, turning to look at you. He gave you a soft look, almost pleading.
"He deserves this. Please."
You felt your shoulders slump in acceptance, mind stilling and slowing in its tirade of thoughts. With one last deep breath, you stepped inside.

"Tōru, the preliminaries are right around the corner, I swear to god if you overwork yourself," I glared at him putting my hands on my hips.
"Relax, I'll be fine. As always." He chuckled running a hand through his glorious brown hair.
"I'm so disgusted by you.." I mumbled and walked away from my annoying brother.
"Aren't we all?" I heard iwaizumi chime in from beside me.
"You guys are so mean to me!" Tōru whined, trying to get us to pity him.
I rolled my eyes and walked off to gather towels for the boys on the volleyball team. As the appointed manager, I had a great time working with almost all of them.
Even Kyoutani, or as Tōru likes to call him, 'Maddog-chan'.
"Here, do you need more water?" I softly asked Kindaichi as I handed him a fresh white towel.
Our hands lightly grazed each others as he took it. I could definitely tell my presence made him visibly nervous.
High school boys, am I right?
"S-Sure!" His voice was suddenly very high pitched in his response.
"Alright.." I've slightly gotten used to being the girl around but half of the time it was awkward due to me being related to Tōru.
I grabbed his water bottle from his hands while gathering the rest of the empty ones too. Better fill the rest of them up whilst I'm at it.
"Huh, you must have the hots for me too if you like my sister. We're practically the same person." Oikawa chimes in all dickheadedly. And this is my exact thirteenth reason.
I heard Tōru say as he slung an arm across my shoulder.
"Don't touch me, Shittykawa." I growled with a glare and headed out of the gym, annoyed that I'm unfortunately related to him.
"Yep, the exact same." I heard iwaizumi snicker sarcastically to Tōru. I picked up that little nick name for my brother from Iwaizumi, of course.
I was surprised, Tōru sure did have balls for saying that in front of his soulmate. Who likes to throw balls at his stupid head, which I may add.
What a dumbass.
Even if Kindaichi did like me, bless his poor soul, I was going to wait for my soulmate. However, it didn't especially feel like I was going to see them anytime soon though.
I was always feeling a tiny shiver here and there, not exactly burning.
You see, the way we find our soulmates is basically a game of hot and cold. The closer we are, it's hot but farther we are, it's cold. Some fucked up life game if you ask me.
I wasn't particularly cold nor hot, just averagely warm more than half of the time.
I've heard it goes away once you find them and then you'll feel tingles or something when you touch. How the heck would I know? I haven't met the person.
However, the thoughts of my soulmate were pushed to the back of my mind as the Inter-high Prelim's were coming up.
I wanted to make sure Aoba Johsai won to nationals. As much as I always find Tōru a pain in the ass, I do want him to be happy. Even if he is boastful about himself a lot of the time.
I carried the bottles back, some of them slightly wet. I had to make sure not to drop any of them on my way.
"Alright, we're done for today. Make sure you guys stretch and rest up." Tōru said all captain-like as everyone got finished with putting the supplies away.
I eyed Tōru making sure he was coming along and not staying behind to continue his extra practice that he doesn't need.
"Calm down. I'm coming, jeez." I heard him say to Iwaizumi as he slung his bag on his back.
"Uh huh, I thought I'd have to drag your flatass out the gym." A retort sounded through the gym.
I stifled a laugh as Tōru and Haji argued back and forth about my brother's ass. Which now that I really give some thought about it, that sounds weird.
"Please stop, I don't want to hear about Tōru's flatass." I grossly commented.
"You two are so-" Oikawa started up with but immediately got cut off.
"Would you look at that, this is my house. Bye (Y/n)." Iwaizumi said, purposely cutting Tōru off and ignoring him.
"See you tomorrow." I waved and continued my walk  home with a grumbling Tōru behind me. Our house was, coincidentally, only a couple houses down from Iwaizumi's.
I looked up at the night sky and silently wished the best for my team. Although, I wouldn't ever dare to admit that.
"Tōru? Aren't you going up against Tobio? Your kouhai?" I asked as we headed inside, taking off our shoes.
"First of all, he isn't my kouhai and yes I am. I'm going to beat him in an actual match and prove I'm better than him." He sassily retorted to me.
"Isn't he, like, a first year?" With Toru and I being twins, we both are in our third year.
However, that doesn't make us alike in anyway possible, except maybe looks and of course the relation of family.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" He slightly peered behind me, curious of my intentions.
I shrugged, "You sound immature when he's a first year and you're a third year." I pulled the, 'you're older' card on him like he was dumb.
"Hmph, no it doesn't! Mom!" He rushed into the kitchen to probably tell on me like the little snitch he is. Doesnt matter whether graduation was coming up or not, Tōru still had the motive to act like we were five.
"Tch, childish." I rolled my eyes and headed in there too, to defend myself of course.
"Ah! There are my two favorite headaches! Come help me set the table." I heard mom say as I saw Tōru take offense to what she said.
"Quit being a baby." I looked at him with a pointed expression and set the plates down.
"So mean." He grumbled.
I knew he couldn't insult me physical wise because we are the gender bented version of each other. However, sometimes he knew how to stoop low. Brother or not, he could be ruthless.
"Well, at least I'm not the one without a soulmate." He placed his hands on his hips and smiled triumphantly with an eating shit grin. Although, that didn't last long on his part.
"Don't say that to your sister." I heard dad enter the kitchen and scold him, very convenient on my part.
I grinned brightly at my dad who backed me up as I ignored the dull pain in my chest at not yet having found the other part of me.
Tōru stuck his tongue out at me and I did the same. Hey, if he gets to act childish why can't I do the same?
"Isn't it a bit hot in here to you?" I pulled at my shirt collar. I had taken off my jacket yet I thought about it because it was starting to get too hot for me.
"No? I'm playing in a match and it's not even that hot." Iwaizumi looked at me weird.
"Well whatever it is, it needs to pass." I glared at nothing in particular. I hated being hot, the feeling only made my mood worsen at times.
"Okay, now you guys go out there and win this." I supportively said, pushing the heat on my body aside, and saw Tōru visibly cringe.
"No, stop. That's just..no." He shook his head in a disapproving manner at me.
"Iwaizumi." I merely grumbled, if I couldn't do anything, he surely could for me.
The next thing I knew, Iwaizumi had slapped Tōru on the back of his head.
"That's not how you're supposed to talk to your sister." He scolded. I heard the ref blow the whistle, signaling the break was over and it was time to get back in the game.
My gaze stayed focused on the game, not particularly on one player. I was following each move they made with my eyes.
Soon, the game had been over and Aoba Johsai had won.
"You guys did so well! I'm so proud of you!" I ran towards them, trying to hug all of them at once.
Suddenly, I heard a rough voice come from across the net as we were celebrating.
"Oikawa."
I turned around at the same time Tōru did, and coincidentally Iwaizumi turned too.
"Yes?" we three had answered simultaneously. I raised a brow over to Iwaizumi and stifled a laugh. Strange, I didn't think he would take our last name.
I saw the tall guy, who seemed to be familiar, look dumbfounded.
He quickly seemed to get over his pause, "Next time, we'll win." He said strongly as I saw their captain come and get him.
Before they could even react, I turned towards the two.
"So, Mr. Hajime Oikawa?" I watched the two of them blush as we walked off the court together.
"You two are hella dorks." I muttered at them with a smile on my face.
While they had started changing their uniforms I felt an enormous amount of heat flow through me.
I furrowed my brows unbeknownst to why and then it suddenly hit me. My soulmate must be here.
I started walking around, feeling to see if I had gotten warmer or colder. This really is just a big game of hot and cold.
"Uhh, what're doing?" I heard my brother ask from behind me.
"They're leaving." I whispered and started a fast-paced walk to where the warmth was leaving me.
"(Y/n)! you can't just run off like that!" I heard Tōru yell behind me as I booked into a run. God, I didn't want them to leave.
Soon, I was led outside. It was as if someone placed the sun beside me. I could feel it radiating all over my entire body. I was so fucking hot.
I saw the Karasuno team slowly walking towards and entering their bus. I couldn't spot anyone who exactly looked like they were close to fainting from the heat like I was.
"Hey! Wait!" I yelled out as I neared them. I just had to find them.
However, I didn't see where I was going and collided with someone. The heat I was experiencing, and almost fainted from, suddenly vanished and was replaced with tingles.
Lots of tingles like when your foot is asleep and you have to walk on it. But.. this was comforting, a little pleasurable.
Opening my eyes, I saw a silver haired guy in front of me, on the ground too. I could have cared less at the moment, I just needed to know.
Without thinking of my actions, I grabbed his arm, and sure enough there were tingles radiating up and down my arm.
"Oh my God." I heard him whisper to himself probably. I pulled into a hug as I heard footsteps nearing us.
"I can't believe I found you." I said which came out to a mumble since I was pressed into to him. I could smell his jersey, honeysuckle and linen, a surprisingly intoxicating scent.
I felt his heartbeat, which seemed like it would fly out of his chest at any minute. As if he realized we were still on the ground, he tore himself from the embrace. Standing up, he offering a hand to me.
"Thank you," I nervously said, I mean this was the person I'd most likely be spending the rest of my life with, according to fate.
"I'm Kōshi Sugawara, what's your name?" He moved a strand of hair out of my face, the tingles giving me chills as I shivered with delight.
Just as I was about to answer, a rude and annoying but all too familiar voice interrupted me, and our moment.
"Just what do you think you're doing with my sister, Mr. Pleasant!" I heard Tōru's God awful voice yell from a distance, coming closer with every second.
"Sister?" The man named Kōshi Sugawara questioned.
I looked toward Sugawara and sighed then sadly nodded. It was as if his team had tensed up with Tōru coming.
I mean, we did just beat them. Wait.. did they watch the entire meeting of me and Sugawara? Gosh, that is embarrassing.
"Tch, Shittykawa, can't you see i'm doing something?" I growled out at him, about to hit him when I stopped, seeing Iwaizumi in the distance.
Lucky for me, I have a future brother-in-law who can beat his ass for me.
He came up behind Tōru and grabbed his shirt by the collar. "You're such a pain sometimes." He muttered after bowing to us apologetically and dragged him back.
"Jesus, sorry about him. He really is a pain in the ass. Hi, I'm (Y/n) Oikawa." I smiled brightly at Koushi, my soulmate.
"I didn't know Oikawa had a sister?" I heard someone from his team speak up.
"Oh yeah, and it gets even worse, I'm his twin." I sighed in defeat at my words.
"Well, (Y/n) Oikawa. Here's my number, I would like to go out with you Saturday if you want? For coffee?"
I turned back to my soulmate upon hearing his voice and smiled brightly once again. He literally looks like an angel from heaven.
"Of course," I put his number in my phone and my eyes wandered upward towards the time.
They almost bulged out of my head, "Oh my god, I have to go. Uh, I'll see you Saturday Koushi? Bye!" I waved him off, missing the feeling of the tingles that would linger on my hand.
I couldn't wait for Saturday.

1.
There are a few unshakeable facts Iwaizumi has always known, as steady as the sun rising in the east.
His mom and dad are extremely, almost disgustingly in love. Their matching timers (both reading 00:00:00, the countdown having finished far before Hajime was barely a twinkle in his parents' eyes) displayed proudly,
Oikawa Tooru is his best friend. Despite the soulmark on his upper back (A black crown, standing out against his pale skin), Oikawa has always insisted on Hajime being first in his life. From when they were young, knobbly knees bumping into each other on bus rides back home to now, as he feels of the volleyball reaching his palm perfectly as he smashes it to the other side of the court, its always been Tooru and Hajime.
Iwaizumi doesn't have a soulmate.
"I mean," Matsukawa mutters. "Maybe it's just not the type of soulmark that manifests until you meet your soulmate? I've heard of soulmarks like those, rare as they are."
Iwaizumi doesn't know about that. Wouldn't he have felt the presence of a soulmate? Don't people always talk about how they feel a piece of themselves missing until they meet their other half?
"Hey, maybe that feeling is just due to the expectation of knowing your soulmate is somewhere out there, you know? Like, you don't actually feel anything but you think you do because you're so conditioned to missing a part of yourself." Hanamaki throws out his hands, spreading them like he had just impressed the wisdom of the ages upon them. Iwaizumi snorts, shaking his head.
"Dude, I think you're delusional."
The comment earns him a punch to the shoulder, but he just shakes it off, dodging Hanamaki's fists. It didn't matter, anyway. He didn't really need a soulmate. He had his team, and he had volleyball. Things were fine as they were, and Iwaizumi would be happy if they continued like this, always. The setting sun behind their backs, as he slung his arms around Oikawa's shoulders, grabbing him in a headlock and ruffling up his disgustingly perfect hair, the laughter of his friends in the spring air.
He should have known it was too good to last.
The beginning of the end started with her, he thinks.
A new manager, after their last one had graduated. She slotted into their life, neatly and without pause, like a missing puzzle piece that they didn't realize was missing until it was before them.
She immediately incited a feeling of overprotectiveness in the team. She laughed along to Hanamaki's and Mattsun's jokes, listened patiently to the excitable first years, and was immediately there to calm him down when he got too angry at Oikawa's flippishness, and recognized when Oikawa was overworking himself and put her foot down to stop him. (Even if it didn't work. Not much could stop Oikawa when he was determined.)
His breath caught in his throat, as his team members had thrown sideway glances at him, knowing he was in the same situation. She notices their attention, and looks at him questioningly too.
And yet, for all her cheerfulness, there were moments where she was overcome by a weird melancholy. Times when she glimpsed the soulmark on Oikawa's back, when his shirt rode up too high, when she noticed Yahaba's nose sometimes bleeding on its own (of all the soulmarks, a shared pain one was definitely an absolute pain in the ass), when she noticed the easy energy between Hanamaki and Matsukawa-
The entire team had noticed, especially Oikawa, who was always doted a lot more on her during those moments. His coy yells of "Manager-chan~" almost always succeeded those moments, as he would proceed to badger her and distract her.
It's an overnight training camp, over barbeque where she opens up, her voice carrying among the silence underneath the stars.
"I don't have a soulmate. Never will, I think."
"Ah, that's okay. I don't have one either. But I've never really felt the need for one anyway." He coughs, his ears turning red at the scrutiny. She observes him quietly and quirks an eyebrow.
"We're in the same boat, Iwaizumi-kun! We have to stick together then!"
He raises his skewer to her in a mimicry of a toast, relishing the sound of her laughter.
Hajime wonders if he's allowed to feel more for her. Was it worth mangling their dynamic so he could reach out and push one of her flowing strands of hair behind her ear? To reach down and take her lips, cupping the back of her neck in his palm? Was he made for her, their unmarked bodies in harmony with each other?
That day results in a change. Oikawa and Iwaizumi  become Oikawa, Iwaizumi and her. She joins them on their walks home now, linking her arms with theirs, as she laughs at him and Oikawa ribbing each other. Their movie nights now have her sprawled across Oikawa's lap, her legs in his as they relentlessly mocked bad horror movies together, throwing popcorn at each other. She watches, water bottles and towels at ready as they relentlessly practice serves and spikes.
The best things come in threes, don't they?
This friendship of his, their trio, was so precious to him, and he wanted it to remain unbroken. He would push down his feelings for her if he had to protect it.
Their third and final year of high school arrives with a rush, and with it a sense of finality. The last year of volleyball he'd enjoy with his team, and their final chance to enter the Nationals. The insurmountable wall that was Shiratorizawa loomed over them as always, but this year would be different. It had to be.
Karasuno was a surprise. Seeing the grumpy kid that used to lurk around Oikawa now become a monstrous setter an extremely unpleasant one, watching Oikawa's anger at the prodigy gutting. But this was just another opponent to crush on their way to the nationals, and he ensured that his spikes were at their fiercest. Karasuno is vanquished, but he knows that the team is stumbling and will be scary once they find their wings. He thinks Oikawa has realized it too.
The tiny middle blocker from Karasuno makes him feel...weird. A yearning he didn't think was possible to feel. He's mildly insulted that its the annoying chibi of all people that brings it out of him.
Matsukawa laughs and laughs. "Hey, maybe he's your soulmate?"
Oikawa's head whips around, and walks up he grips Iwaizumi's head between his hands. "If your soulmate is Tobio's minion, I will never forgive you, Iwa-chan!" Iwaizumi sputters, headbutting him. "Shittykawa, you'd think it'd be a bit more obvious if he was!"
Iwaizumi wonders when he became Tooru-kun to her.
Their manager watches them both wrestle, a smile on her face. "Tooru-kun and me will support you no matter what, you know that right?"
"Ah, Iwa-chan...we're together now."
The world ends on a Thursday.
Iwaizumi knew he should have stayed in bed today. Her nervous stride as she slinks up to him forms a strange pit in his stomach. The pink spots of color high up on her cheekbones, her face fighting off a smile. The way Oikawa walks alongside her, her arms linked to his. The way he feels like an intruder now, a voyeur to moments he shouldn't be witnessing.
He knows what Oikawa is about to say even before he opens his mouth.
He wonders how he didn't see it before. She covers her face with her hands, blushing furiously, but Oikawa continues looking at him, waiting for something.
Iwaizumi smiles, punches his best friend in the shoulder lightly. It's okay. Maybe things could still be the same. He turns to her and snorts. "You sure you want to put up with this dumbass?"
They laugh together, the tension dissipating. He walks with them, but the distance between them has widened. A bitter part of Iwaizumi wonders why Oikawa had to go for her when he had his own soulmate, but he knows that is a selfish thought. He wonders how much of his feelings was solely because they both happened to lack soulmates.
Oikawa whines, a relieved look crossing his face, so quickly that Iwaizumi wonders if he imagined it. "Iwa-chan, you're so mean! You're still number 1 in my heart, you know?"
"Shittykawa, have you taken one too many volleyballs to the face or something?"
It would be nice, he thinks. To have someone to call his own. He watches his best friends as they shyly steal glances at each other, faces red,  and despite that bitterness he hopes they're happy together. And maybe if she met someone despite not having a soulmate, he could too.
Iwaizumi curses as he strides down the corridor, knowing he's late. Oikawa had slunk away somewhere, and the next match was theirs, but their coach sends  him away to track down their captain. The spring tournament is their last chance at Nationals, and he is extremely high strung already.
Where had he seen that before? It comes to him in a rush, and he realizes she's a Karasuno student.
He's too lost in his thoughts to notice the whirlwind barreling down his path, their collision imminent. He notices the girl a second too late, and he struggles to halt his stride, but she crashes into him, sending them both to the floor.
"Shit, can't you see where you're going??" He yells, and the lump on top of him groans, slowly lifting its head from his chest. He notices her uniform first, the familiarity striking.
The second thing he notices is her forehead and part of her cheek glowing different colours, iridescent. She looks down at him from her position and yelps, her expression going from annoyance to shock as she stares at his face. He feels his heart beating faster, his eyes refusing to leave those glowing marks, watching as they slowly fade away.
He straightens, grabbing her raised hand, and the places where their skin touches flares to life with color.
She's the most beautiful person he's ever seen, he realizes.
He sits up, and she flushes red, realizing she's on his lap. She still doesn't move, and raises her hand slowly. He watches, frozen, as she pokes his cheek, almost in a trance. She pulls her finger away, and he notices it's glowing, orange and red. She looks at her finger and at his cheek, and he feels the place she poked him blaze with warmth. He thinks it could burn a hole in him.
There are a few unshakeable facts Iwaizumi thought he'd always known. They might not have been as immovable as he thought they were.
His mom and dad are extremely, almost disgustingly in love. Their matching timers (both reading 00:00:00, the countdown having finished far before Hajime was barely a twinkle in his parents' eyes) displayed proudly.
Oikawa Tooru is his best friend. It's not just Tooru and Hajime anymore, but maybe that's okay.
Iwaizumi doesn't have might have desperately hopes he's not mistaken  has a soulmate.

2.
You have a soulmate.
At least, you think you do. You throw the volleyball to your cousin, watching him stumble to receive it.
"What makes you so sure you do, (name)?" Hinata asks, curious. He tosses the ball back to you and you catch it cleanly, spinning it on a finger. You think it's a fair question. After all, you don't have a soulmark, unlike Hinata.
"It's just a feeling, you know?" You shrug. "Like I just know there's someone out there for me." You drop the ball, flopping onto the grass under you, and your cousin bounds up to you, throwing his arms around your neck. You pat his fluffy orange hair, feeling a rush of affection. "Of course, it's just a feeling. I'm not as lucky as you, to have such a pretty soul mark."
Hinata scrambles away from you, lifting his shirt and grimacing. The golden fox is bright, and you wonder what kind of person it belongs to. They must certainly be somewhat flashy, and you're very curious to see how they'd fit your cousin.
You giggle, getting up and brushing the grass off your shorts, pulling Hinata up with you. "Come on nerd, let's go get some more practice in before Auntie calls us for dinner."
"Blech! I don't care about soulmates anyway! I just want to play some volleyball! I'm gonna play before I graduate middle school, I swear!"
You believe him. There's very little your cousin can't do when he puts his mind to it. You shoot him a thumbs up and he grins at you. "For what its worth, I think you have a soulmate too! They have to be a really cool person, though, or I'm fighting them off!"
He cheers, and you follow him, your spirits high.
You've lived with your aunt and cousins for as long as you've remembered. Your parents had died when you were really young, and your mother's sister had taken you in. You got along with your cousins like a house on fire, immediately charmed by Hinata and Natsu. Despite the two year difference between you and Hinata, you both were really close, and you went along with most of his whims, encouraging his interest in volleyball and practicing with him outside your house , throwing the ball at him for hours on end, while Natsu cheered you both on.
You were happy when he decided to join the same school you were in, even though you'd both only get to share one year together, since you're already in your last year of high school. You both cycle to school together on the first day, and you listen to him chatter away about joining the volleyball club. You remember that the volleyball club at your school didn't have a lot of success, but you hope your cousin has a good time regardless.
The next day, you laugh high and loud when Daichi grabs you and shakes you, calling your cousin a menace. You know he'd grow on Daichi eventually. The competition the captain had set certainly explained the fervor with which Hinata had practiced back home.
Reaching school, you see the captain of the team is in your class, Daichi. You're pretty friendly with him and you stride up to him, leaning on his back. He yelps in surprise, then grins back at you when he notices you. "(name), hey! We're in the same class again!"
You smirk, bumping fists with him. "I can't believe we're in our last year of high school already! It feels like yesterday, stumbling into class in out first year..."
He sighs. "Yeah, it's our last shot at making something of the volleyball team too."
"Speaking off..." You trail off, and he looks at you, curious.  "My baby brother is in his first year of high school and he might be, no scratch that, he's definitely applying to the team. Be nice to him, okay?"
He raises an eyebrow. "I make no promises. Is he any good at playing?"
You shrug. "He's short and spunky, real fast. I think he can do anything he puts his mind to, he's just a bit....over excitable."
You're not surprised when he becomes a full fledged member of the team.
You try to keep up with your cousin's matches, but your own classes and your determination to get into a good college had you busy for most of the days. You did always make time for when he talked about his matches against the other schools and his own rival/teammate, Kageyama.
You notice immediately when he comes home one day from a match, quiet. You tilt your head at him questioningly, and he plops down next to you on the ground, sprawling over you.
"Get off, you lump!" You giggle, pushing him aside, and he whines. "We won today, a practise match against a team. Aobajohsai."
You fistbump him, but he's clearly out of it, returning it with much less enthusiasm than he normally would. "You're..not as excited as I thought you would be about that."
He sits up, shaking his head. "I am! But their captain didn't join until the very last set, and he was scary."
"Want me to come to your next match against them and beat him up?" You grin, flashing your muscles (they're very pitiful muscles, unfortunately), and he snorts. "Nah, we'll just win against them again next time! I'm gonna be the best decoy ever!"
You mildly worry over what Daichi was making your brother do. A decoy? At least he still looked extremely excited about it. You think he wants to tell you about something else, but he shakes the thought away, and you decide to let him be.
The following weeks bring with it the interhigh, and you hear the volleyball team has been doing pretty well, winning their first two matches. You wave at the team one morning when they're heading out, looking extremely nervous, and you giggle at the second years that immediately pounce on Hinata, asking him how they knew you. You wish them luck, before heading into your school. You're sure they'll bring about another victory.
It's a surprise when Hinata comes home late at night, his eyes red and face rubbed. You bite your lip, realising what happened and watch him absent mindedly fool around with the ball.
"Want to talk about it?
He sniffs, rubbing his eyes. "We lost. To the grand king."  You tsk. You're not sure who the grand king is, though.
"Was it close?" He nods, and you put an arm around his shoulder, bringing him into a hug. "You'll get them next time. There isn't much that can keep you down, and your team looks crazy enough to be the same." You think he knows this already, but you're a supportive big sister and you'll give him all the reassurance and praise he deserves.
He perks up, like he's remembering something. "Oh yeah, (name)! There's a spiker on Aobajohsai who makes me feel weird? His spikes are so cool, they're like BWAAH but he feels very familiar to me somehow..."
You were halfway to the kitchen, ready to pull out a knife when he said this spiker felt weird, but that explanation was even more bewildering. "Maybe he's your soulmate?" You wonder out loud, and he shakes his head resolutely. "He isn't, I'm sure. Besides, he doesn't really feel like a fox...."
You point out that his actual soulmate might not feel like one too, but it falls on deaf ears. The conversation is derailed with the both of you discussing whether Hinata's soulmark meant that his soulmate would be a foxy person, and you poke and tease at his red cheeks.
You shake your pom poms at Daichi and Kiyoko, questioningly. "You know, I came here to support my brother, not to become a de facto cheerleader for your baby nerds."
You had a free day from classes, and decided to accompany the volleyball team to their Spring high. You were already beginning to regret the decision when Kiyoko and the other tiny manager had procured a couple of pom-poms mysteriously from nowhere, pressing them onto you.
Daichi gives you a thumbs up, enthusiastically. "(name), supporting our team as a cheer leader IS supporting Hinata. We're all a team!"
You narrow your eyes at him suspiciously, glancing at Kiyoko, but she just shrugs at you. "Whatever gets them hyped up."
Resigned, you're glad you decided to doll yourself up a bit for the matches. You'd make the other teams jealous of Hinata for having a cute cheerleader on their side. You nod, resolutely, holding back a grimace when you notice the team looking extremely nervous.
They would be fine...right?
You decide to go hunt down some stomach medicine for the freckled first year, who looked like he was a second away from blowing his breakfast all over the court. Throwing a salute to Kiyoko, you stride away, breaking into a quick jog down the corridors when you hear the announcer.
You crash into someone at full speed, and you have just enough time to yell out an "Oh shit!" before you take the person down, landing on top of them. The first thing your brain notices is how hard and muscly the body under you is, and you find yourself turning red, pushing yourself up on the boy quickly, stopping when you see his face.
He's...really handsome. You're kind of mad at how handsome he is. Thick furrowed eyebrows, cute spiky hair, and body built like a brickhouse, and tan cheeks dusted with a pink, that was probably mirroring yours.
Except...his chin and most of his neck is glowing with a really pretty combination of blue and purple. It looks kind of silly, but they fade away even as you watch. The boy sits up in a hurry, and the position ends up with you on his lap, and you feel your face getting hotter. You look down and notice your own hands are also covered in a weird glow.
What the...
You raise your hand to his face, unable to stop yourself. You had a hypothesis, and your brain was running at a hundred miles an hour.
The boy watches you as you press a finger to his face, feeling his warm skin. You pull your finger away and it blazes a bright orange, the spot where you pressed against his cheek also glowing, like a facsimile of a highlight.
He grabs your hand, and the both of you stare at your interlocked hands, the colors forming slowly where your skin touches.
Well. You're glad your suspicions about having a soulmate didn't let you down. You kind of think you hit the jackpot with him too, considering he was one of the hottest people you've ever seen.
His face is blazing red. "What..?"
Ah.
"I did not mean to say that loud..." You realize you're still on his lap, and you scramble back. He snorts, getting up, and pulling yourself up with him. You note he still hasn't let go of your hand.
The announcer blares out, and the both of you jump like you're struck by lightning, the dreamy moment broken. He straightens, and points to you.
"After my match." He looks over you, and winces, remembering something. "You're a Karasuno student, huh...I'm pretty sure our next match is against your team. I'll find you after we win."
You puff up in indignation. The audacity!
"My baby brother and his team are going to kick your ass!" You stomp your feet, turning around to storm away, your hair whipping around your face. You feel a hand wrap around your upper arm as he pulls you back into him, snorting in amusement at your anger.
"You're also really pretty, by the way." You huff, looking around for people before reaching in and pressing a quick kiss to his cheeks, extremely light and quick, the only hint of it the light glow on his cheek that fades away in a second. You wonder if your lips are tinted. You guess they are, from the way he stares at them.
"Charmer. I'll see you later. Sorry about rooting against you."
You escape his grasp while he's still shocked from your kiss, winking at him. You had a nervous team to cheer for.
You hunt down your soulmate after the match. You had explained to Hinata quickly what had happened before the match started, and he nodded at you understandingly when you slink away from the celebrating team. You find a lone figure sitting on a bench, head bent, and you sigh, hoisting up the moist towels in your arm, glad you came prepared.
You sneak up to him, wrapping a towel around his neck, and he whips his head at you in shock, before relaxing and realizing who it was.
"Come to gloat?" He asks, before a regretful look crosses his face.
You move in front of him, holding his face in your hands. You watch his cheeks glow as you rub your fingers across them gently. It's weird how comfortable you are with doing that, but he didn't seem bothered by it either so you aren't going to stop.
"I'm going to ignore that because I understand that you're sad. For what it's worth, you were really cool out there."
"We still lost."
"Karasuno's pretty scary now, huh." You grin, proudly, and he lets out a sigh. "My brother, Hinata. He's the spunky middle blocker."
Okay, maybe you were gloating a bit. But today was the first time you saw them in action, and they were a lot more intense and good than you expected. You didn't know a lot about volleyball, but the stuff they were doing definitely looked super cool. You kind of understood Hinata's descriptors of 'BWAAH' and 'BOOM' now to describe their moves.
"That kid is your brother? That explains some things.." You look at him questioningly, and he shakes his head at you.
"I'm not gonna ask, I think. Iwaizumi, right?"
He's startled, realizing he doesn't even know your name. You introduce yourself to him, and he mouths your name, voicing it out.
"It's Hajime to you. You're my soulmate."
You grin at him, pulling him up from the bench. "Hajime, then. You know, there's a silver lining to your team losing today." He grabs your hand, interlocking your fingers. You lean onto him cheerfully. "What is it?"
"You get to be comforted by your soulmate, of course! Let's go get some dinner, on me!"
Clearly cheered up by the prospect, he smiles at you, and you feel your heart flutter. Seriously, you must have saved a country in your previous life to get a soulmate this cute. You were determined to stain him with every color of the rainbow all over his body by the end of today.
He pulls you along. "Let me introduce you to my team first." You walk alongside him, wrapping yourself around his arm, needling at him to explain to you volleyball terms, the colors at the junction of where your skin meets his as bright as the setting sun.
There are a few unshakeable facts to his life that Hajime knows will never change.
His mom and dad are extremely, almost disgustingly in love. Their matching timers (both reading 00:00:00, the countdown having finished far before Hajime was barely a twinkle in his parents' eyes) displayed proudly. They also adore you, and you adore them right back.
Oikawa Tooru is his best friend. When he introduces you to him, you cheerfully exclaim  "Grand king! I think I'm supposed to beat you up!" and Oikawa sputters. Hajime doesn't hold back his laughter as Oikawa pouts, but you're paying more attention to Hajime, distracted by his laughter, moving in again to brush your fingers across his cheek.
Hajime loves seeing the colors appear on you. He loves the different shades they take, how they perfectly look like the imprint of his fingers when he presses them into your waist, when he grips the back of your neck and kisses you, when he brushes them across your forehead. He especially loves seeing them on your lips. He thinks they probably look a bit ridiculous to other people with their stained lips, but to him its the most endearing thing he's ever seen.
You also love seeing the colors on him. You've always been a bit possessive of your belongings, and Hajime is yours in a way no one else will ever be. You love watching the colors appear on his arms as you grip them, wrapping yourself around him as you both walk together. You also adore pressing kisses to his cheeks and lips, surprising him almost every time you do it. You know the marks you leave on his neck sometimes last much for an entire day, and you know he deals with the ribbing from his teammates every time they see it. It just entices you to leave more.
Most of all, Hajime knows that his soulmate loves him.

3.
The colours dance around your boyfriend’s chest, as you trail your fingers down it. You’re lying on top of him, your arm crossed and supporting your head on his stomach, as you entertain yourself.
You pout when he stays asleep, dead to the world. Apparently your naughty shenanigans last night had knocked him out good, and you’re kind of proud of yourself for it.
But that was neither here nor there, and right now you wanted his attention. You moved up, biting his cheek, and he jostles awake with surprise, closing his eyes again when he realizes it’s just you.
“Go back to sleep then, baby.”
“Brat…”
You giggle, tweaking his nose.“I’m bored, Hajime.”
With a groan, you bury your face in his neck, enjoying his warmth and smell. “Don’t wanna. You’re so busy with your team…it feels like forever since we’ve been like this.”
He’s silent at your words, his hands coming down and squeezing your thighs, pulling at them. “Hey…I’m sorry about that. You’ve given up so much for me and I’ve repaid you by being too busy to spend time with you...”
You raise your head, frowning, and flick his forehead. “Ow!”
“Idiot!” Your cheeks puff up in anger. “You’re following your dreams, Hajime. It’s so fucking cool that you’re a trainer for the Olympics team now. You don’t have to apologize to me for anything. You’re my soulmate and I love you.”
He stares at you, his expression warm. Bending down, his lips brush across your cheeks lightly, and you giggle at the feeling. “I don’t deserve you.” He pulls back, watching the colour dance across your cheeks and nose where his lips brushed your face, before fading away.
You scoff at him. “You deserve the best.”
“And that’s you?”
“Of course it is.” You poke your tongue out at him. “What’s got you in such a melancholic mood today?” Any other time with you naked on him would have led to a lot of teasing and groping by now. He’s holding himself back.
“I met Tooru today.”
“Oh?” You sit up on his chest, curiously, and he supports you without any effort, his hands moving up to your waist.
“He told me he found out who his soulmate is, love.”
“But isn’t he still dating that manager of yours from high school..?” Hajime nods, and you whistle. “He’s pretty conflicted about the whole thing. He feels really bad for leaving his soulmate alone, but he’s been dating her for as long as we have. He thought they’d make it.” You’re silent at first. “So this is what’s gotten you worried?”
“He’s my best friend and I’ve been worrying about him forever..I’ve rarely seen him this broken up about things.”
You run your fingers over his hard stomach and chest comfortingly. “He’ll figure it out, Hajime. He always has.” Admittedly, you’ve always been a skeptic of him and his girlfriend. You frown at the thought. Hajime had told you pretty early on about his feelings for her and you often thought about how you would have felt if you had met Hajime while he was dating her instead. And now someone else was in that position.
Your boyfriend knows you well, and immediately knows where your mind is heading. He picks up your hand with his, interlocking your fingers and kissing it. “Idiot. I’m here with you now.” You slap at his chest.
“I know! I can’t believe you ever thought you didn’t have a soulmate.”
His fingers pinch at your thigh and you yelp in surprise. “My apologies, princess. Not all of us can have the same self-confidence you did when you thought you had a soulmate. I didn’t even have a mark.”
“And now you’re covered with them all the time.”
He knows that if he looked down where your body met his, it’d be glowing with different colours. The colours themselves were sometimes bright, sometimes muted, sometimes they’d last for hours and sometimes they would fade away after he took his hands off you, so quickly it’s like they were never there.
You’ve tested the way the colours appear extensively (intentionally and unintentionally…you’ve always found it hard to keep your hands off him) but you’ve never discovered any sort of pattern. You both concluded that it was just random, if pretty.
“Totally not embarrassing having to show up for training with orange marks all over my neck. You know your cousin is on the team, right?”
You giggle unapologetically at him. “Just think of it as revenge for whatever PDA Hinata and Atsumu throw at you. I know it’s a lot.”
Your boyfriend groans at the very thought. “I have lost count of the amount of times I’ve spiked balls into their heads to interrupt them. I thought we were bad. Most of the team is very traumatized.”
You coo at him. “My poor baby. We are definitely worse and you know it.”
He snorts. “I’ll show you worse.”
He lifts you, both hands going around your waist, making you support yourself on your knees. You start to complain before you’re silenced quickly, your words cutting off into a moan as he releases one hand from your waist to rub you, experienced fingers finding your clit quickly.
You’ve been together for quite a while, and know each other’s bodies as well as your own by now. It doesn’t take him long to work you up into a frenzy, his fingers entering you.
“You’re so wet already for me, you cute little slut.” He stretches you, his fingers scissoring. “Just look at that.”
He withdraws them from inside you and you whine in annoyance at the sudden emptiness, your thighs shaking. You flush red looking at the juices from you coating his fingers.
“Hajime…please.”
“Hmm? Please what?” You’re annoyed at how unbothered he looks lying down in comparison to your flustered self, and you poke at his chest. He repays you with a spank to your ass, and you yelp in surprise. “Behave. And use your words. I know that pretty mouth has its uses other than moaning for me.”
You’re pouting, but you’re enjoying this tremendously, and he knows it. Nothing gets you hot and bothered more than your boyfriend going all authoritative on you.
“I need you in me..”
You sit back down on him, feeling him hot and hard right under you. Moving back and forth slowly, you grind on him, covering him in slick.
You pick up the hand of his that was inside you, inserting his fingers in your mouth and tasting yourself on him. He grips your cheek, dislodging your hands.
“Shit..shit, okay.”
He lets go of your face, lifting you again slightly, before entering you. Your body arched as he pushed the head of the shaft in, your wetness offering little resistance. You both groan in unison as you bottom out. “Can’t hold myself back against you, baby girl.”
You giggle as you feel his thickness fill you out. You supported your hands on his stomach as you began to move up again slowly, and gasped as his hips surged up to meet yours with ease.
Hajime runs his hands down your body, his fingers tweaking at your nipples, grinning at the temporary stain of colour that covered them. You looked ever so pretty on his dick, bouncing up and down, covered in the colours that marked you solely as his. Your eyes are closed, your hair flowing down your back, the sounds of your skin slapping against his intermixed with the soft sound of rain outside your window.
He continues moving his hips slowly, the warmth of you covering him so well it’s driving him a little bit insane. He takes the opportunity while your eyes are closed to reach a single arm out to the side where the nightstand drawer is, extracting something he’d been keeping hidden for a while.
You’re in heaven, as he hit your sweet spots, filling you out so well, your pussy clenching around him tight. You startle as he picks up your hand lying on his chest and you feel something cold moving down your finger.
“What..?”
Your eyes fly open, looking down to where he’s interlocked your fingers with his. Your eyes lock onto the shiny band now adorning your fingers, the rock on it glittering. You pause moving, your brain trying to catch up. You meet his eyes, and they’re warm with his love, the unasked question in the air.
“You’re…you’re such an idiot, Hajime!” You gasp out, tears springing into your eyes. A hint of worry is in his expression as he notices your damp eyes. “Sweetheart..?”
“Hurry up and cum in me so I can admire my new ring! Who proposes during sex? We’re gonna get my sweat all over it!”
You whine, and he laughs, sitting up, leaning against the headboard. He grips your waist as your arms fly around his neck, and kisses you as he speeds up, gripping your ass. “I love you.” His lips continue to move across your face, kissing away your tears, swallowing your moans, until they finally latch onto your neck, as he bites and sucks at it. Your nails dig into his back. “I’m close, Hajime-“
“I got you, baby, it’s okay.”
You bury your face in his shoulders as you climax, feeling your cum mix with his as he empties himself inside you, the mixture of fluids leaking out. You shiver as you both take a moment to get a hold of yourselves, and he adjusts himself again, whispering praises into your ear as he falls back onto the bed ,taking you down with him, still inside you. You lie down on his chest, panting, feeling his move up and down with you as he kisses the top of your head.
You turn your head to the side when you’ve caught your breath, bringing up your hand to your face and examining the ring on it.
“I swear I had a proper proposal all planned out.” He grabs your hand, rubbing across it with his thumb. “I was going to take you out to a fancy dinner, get on my knees, go the whole way. Bribe the waiter to put the ring in champagne.”
You flush at his words, feeling your eyes dampen again. “You’re making me tear up again.”
“You looked so pretty right there. I couldn’t resist.” He kisses your hand gently. “I’m sorry for not making it fancier.”
“It’s perfect.” You lift your head, joining your lips to his. “I’d marry you right now if I could. I like the sound of Mrs. Iwaizumi a lot…”
He hisses, turning you both to your sides, hooking your leg around his. “You’re going to get me going again if you call yourself that.”
You laugh. “So eager to wife me up, Hajime?”
“Have been for years, baby girl.” Gripping at your thighs, he pulls himself out of you, admiring the sight of your cum and his dripping out of you. You wince at the feeling of the liquids cooling between your thighs, and he notices, getting out of bed and lifting you in his arms. “Shower first, though.”
“Ooooh.” You wrap your arms around his neck as he carries you in, hooking your head on his shoulder and admiring your hand with the ring. “So husbandly already, Mr. Iwaizumi~”
You hear his smile as the door shuts behind you and he places you on the bathroom counter, leaning in. Your hand grips his hair as he nips at you, the two of you marking each other with the colours of the rainbow. “Anything for my future wife.”

Oikawa T. x Reader Soulmate AU - First words your soulmate says to you are somewhere on your body.
cw: None (?), unless Oikawa lying about being a Sad Boi tm counts. (I wrote this a long while ago but never posted it here, just to my Ao3)
Tumblr media
You don’t know why it bothered you so much.
You never really thought much about Oikawa Toru. It wasn’t that you disliked him; no, you simply weren’t impressed by him. He was good at what he did – that didn’t mean that he deserved special treatment.
Maybe it aggravated you how most of your friends would fawn over the setter, and maybe you would roll your eyes and scoff when you would make your way out of the school only to have your way blocked with the boy and his flock of doe-eyed squealing girls and boys, but it wasn’t that you hated him. You just didn’t think he was anything to lose your head over, especially since most people had something better than a silly unrequited crush to look forward to.
You absentmindedly rub at your neck, just below your shirt collar, where the first words your soulmate will speak to you are scrawled in a messy script.
Afterall, everyone has a soulmate, so why waste your time pining over someone who likely isn’t going to be yours.
A shrill voice above the rest knocks you from your reprieve, and you stand patiently waiting for your upperclassman’s fangirls to disperse.
“Oikawa-san! You look particularly happy today; you’re smiling so handsomely! Did something good happen over the weekend?”
You don’t know why it bothers you so much.
“Oh, it just makes me so happy to see all of you so happy!”
He chirps the words back to the girl who spoke, but gestured all around him, punctuating the sentence with his most dazzling grin yet.
You don’t know why it bothers you so much that you know that he is lying.
That his smile isn’t real, that his answers are mere platitudes, as though it is his job to keep all these ridiculous girls happy. That you know that he hasn’t been happy all day, that the smiles that she referred to have been nothing but empty masks.
You don’t know why it bothers you so much that Oikawa is hurting, and that he is lying about it.
You stand there, leaning against the wall with your brow furrowed, staring unseeingly at the ground. You remained that way for some time, oblivious to the sounds of a peeved Iwaizumi retrieving the setter for practice and the sad sounds of the girls wishing the setter good luck, until finally silence washed over you and you blink back up to the cleared walkway.
You shrug and make your way home, shaking away any lingering thoughts of the setter.
Your younger cousin started playing on the team that school year, so when he noticed your lack of attempts to interact with their captain, he tried to convince you to join the team as a manager.
“Please, Y/n? You’re not part of another club anyway! You’d be a really great fit with the team!”
You rolled your eyes at your cousin, “I’m not part of a club because I prefer to focus on my studies, ‘taro.” Kindaichi opened his mouth to say something, but you finished, cutting him off: “And anyways, you don’t actually want me to be part of the team, you just want me to join because it wouldn’t be to try to get closer to that captain of yours.”
Your cousin groaned. “Can’t it be both? You would fit in well with the team, and you wouldn’t be joining for ulterior motives.”
You just raised an eyebrow and held back a laugh, “Don’t you have a practice to get to right now?”
He blinked once at you, before checking the time, and hurrying off towards the clubroom.
“Just think about it, at least!” He called over his shoulder as he went.
You did think about it. A lot.
You even went to a few of their practice games to observe the team – without telling your cousin of course, he would never have stopped bugging you if he had found out you were genuinely considering it.
It didn’t make sense why it seemed appealing to you – you had very little interest in the sport itself, and other than Kindaichi and some of the second years, you weren’t close with any of the guys on the team either.
After one of the practice games, you slipped out the back of the gym, trying to avoid running into your cousin, and the congestion of all the other students who had come to watch.
The game had been against Shiratorizawa, the ongoing rivalry between the two teams created a draw for many of your fellow students. They played hard, but they lost.
The gym had still been in an uproar for quite some time after the teams had exited, and you had remained in your seat hoping that at least some people might start to file out. Most seemed happy to stay and talk amongst themselves, however.
Exiting through the back of the gym had been a bit of a miscalculation on your part.
You ran into the usual large group of fangirls, who were, once again, blocking your way.
You let your back fall against the metal door that just closed behind you, and resigned yourself to wait. You took in the sight before you and noted that Oikawa’s smile seemed even more strained than usual. He didn’t seem all too interested in entertaining the group of girls today, and frankly, you couldn’t blame him. They had just suffered a pretty hard loss.
Eventually the girls began dispersing, Oikawa skillfully shooing them away by citing needing to meet up with the team to go over the game (which again, you immediately recognized was a lie).
He remained waving and smiling at the girls even as they moved away. Your gaze stuck to him, he hadn’t noticed you, and before you realized what you were doing, you spoke.
“Why do you always lie?”
His posture straightened at the sound of your voice and his eyes met yours. There was a long beat of silence as the setter stared at you a little shocked by your question. Eventually his look turned calculating, as though he was trying to decipher your words.
You blinked, and you felt fire creeping up your neck into your cheeks and ears.
“I, ah… sorry that was incredibly rude of me. I was just… you never mean it when you smile. I just… I guess I was wondering why you seem to put their feelings before your own. You don’t owe anything to them. You’re allowed to be… unhappy…” You trailed off, and you diverted your gaze, apologizing again before quickly walking off, in the direction of home. Brown eyes followed you until you rounded the building, and out of sight.
You wondered if the ground would do you the favour of swallowing you whole.
The next few days you did your best to avoid the setter. You knew you probably offended him, and you felt bad for your words. It was so unlike you to just blurt out such a prying question at someone you didn’t even know! To your dismay you seemed to be hyper aware of the older boy now. He seemed to pop up no matter where you were at school. You would be in the hallway, between classes and suddenly there he was. Spending lunchtime in a friend’s classroom – suddenly you happen to look up and there he was peering in the doorway. After school in the library, a pair of familiar brown eyes are meeting yours through the bookcase.
Didn’t they have practice? What is he doing here?
You blink at the gaze for a moment before turning and hightailing it out of the library.
You are stopped dead in your tracks in the empty hallway when a familiar sentence is called out from behind you.
“You know, I can’t tell if you’re avoiding me, or if you’re just generally a difficult person to locate.”
There was a slightly teasing lilt to the voice that, paired with the burning sensation that ripped through the tattoo scrawled across your shoulder blade, sent a shiver up your spine. You turned to find the setter looking at you slowly making his way closer to where you stood, a small smile spread across his lips.
“Oh.”
His smile grew at the small sound that fell from your lips.
This time, the smile wasn't a lie.

Your Voice
Oikawa Tooru X Reader
-In a world where only a few people has a soulmate, and they are burdened with a disability until they meet their other half.
Chapter 24: Temporary
Italic signed, Bold written
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were the talk of the school.
Not that you cared. Can't hear them, ain't my problem.
You were happy. Oikawa makes you happy.
You didn't care about how the bullying got worst, Oikawa was usually there for you anyways, when he's not you show them who's better.
Even online his fans has been harassing you.
There was no limits.
But you knew that was going to come. He's popular, and you have a soulmate.
Youre still happy with him so that's all that matters.
When the team found out from Iwaizumi, they were all hollering.
What did Iwaizumi think letting you two date?
No one knows. Except me of course.
He looked at the way Oikawa looked at him while you looked at Oikawa, when you were asking for permission.
He's seen Oikawa with that drive only once and it was against Tobio Kageyama. Oikawa had a determined look, a look that says he will prove himself...
He's hoping he didn't make a bad decision letting you two date.
And he's willing to gamble on the small chance of you two being soulmates.
He threw a bottle to his captain's head.
"Shittykawa stop snogging my cousin!" He hissed.
Oikawa apologised and stood up.
They were currently practicing. Iterhigh was upon and you could see the boys were nervous.
You were confident on the other hand. Knowing they can handle all but having one team as faulty.
Shiratorizawa.
It was scary. You've stayed with the Shiratorizawa boys often during their practice matches they were amazing. You'd say even the best youve seen.
But that doesn't mean you dont have a chance. You were excited. Even with their loose streak against Shiratorizawa, you could feel it.
They're going to do great.
Watching them practice, you interrupted them. You explain and gave the coach and team some suggestions.
The line ups and delivery of what you had suggested was fairly complicated especially when they cant hear you explaining it.
Oikawa and Iwaizumi wasnt really that great of a translator. But they showed what you were getting at.
The look on your boyfriend and cousin having their "bro" moment made your heart tug.
They bumped their fist at the successful play they did with what you newly thought.
You silently hoped it stays like that forever.
"I'll try to schedule us another practice match with Shiratorizawa soon. Keep it up guys <3"

The Soulmate Games - Oikawa x Reader (pt. Two)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Oikawa x reader
Wordcount: ca. 3400 words
Genre: fluff, angst (not really), Soulmate Au
Summary: A countdown to your happy ever after. Something that is a dream to most people is a nightmare to those who don’t believe in an happy end. But how can you avoid a part of your life that was always supposed to be there? Exactly, you just try to keep the clock ticking.
Disclaimer: Haikyuu and its characters don’t belong to me.
Tumblr media
Unknown Number: “Hey, here is your soulmate”
Your heart almost stopped when you read the message, sitting in your own room a few streets away from Oikawa´s house.
Your timer didn’t seem to be bothered.
Seemingly the universe didn’t foresee the advancement of technology.
-
For a moment you only stared at the offending object, not moving a muscle. Your mind was already in overdrive, trying to find a way to resolve the situation and the first thing that came to your mind was to completely ignore him but then you thought about the consequence.
You could already see him barging into your school, seeking you out and demanding to know why the hell you acted as you did. Not to forgot that within your imagination you saw Mina and Ray cheering him on from the sidelines while the other people around you were completely shocked that someone would actively avoid their soulmate.
You shock your head and decided that you couldn’t let that happen. You needed to face this head on and somehow get him to stay away from you.
Playing dumb could work.
You: and who is my supposed soulmate?
The male answered immediately, showing that he waited for your reply. Unbeknownst to you, even quite anxiously.
Oikawa: Come on, Soulmate-chan! Don´t be like this, I think you had your fun by running off all the time ;)
You: as far as I remember you were the one running off this time
Oikawa: So, you know who I am? It breaks my heart that you pretended not to know :<
You snorted.
You: Fine, I know who you are but that doesn’t mean that you are my soulmate. It´s only possible to know for sure after meeting your soulmate
Oikawa: Wanna test it then?
You: No.
Oikawa: so cold :<<<
Oikawa: why don´t you want to meet me? :(
That was the question you wanted to avoid all along. While you felt too insecure to answer, you decided to give him a vague reply in order to not leave him hanging.
You: I have my reasons. Just know that it isn´t because I don’t want to meet my soulmate
Oikawa: ???
You: It´s complicated
You: can we please leave it at that for now?
Oikawa: So even though we know each other, you still don’t want to meet? :0
His way to text irritated you to say the least. You couldn’t tell if he was serious, angry, or just joking around. You didn’t even know if he was truly hurt by your actions or if he wasn’t bothered at all.
Oikawa stared at his phone in frustration as you took your time to answer his latest questions. He tried hard not show his true emotions. Instead, he was his silly self and hoped that this and a few added emojis covered up what was truly inside him: a storm of emotions.
By now he wasn’t even sure if this was just out of habit or if it was a conscious decision to make you open up to him. He knew you could block him anytime but he wouldn’t want that to happen because he knew what he would have to have to do then.
He wasn´t known for his inteligence but he was perceptive enough to know that he had to go careful about this in hopes of making you comfortable enough to share whatever his holding you back with him.
And he would rather want to avoid having to force his way into your life but he would do that if there wasn’t any other option anymore.
Finally, he heard the noise that notified him that he had another massage from you.
Soulmate-chan: Not yet.
Not yet? What exactly did that even mean?
Oikawa: and how long is this “not yet” going to last? :(
Soulmate-chan: I honestly don´t know.
Soulmate-chan: I don’t really want to ask you to wait for me, but I want to at least ask you to tolerate my decision.
He huffed. Of course, he would wait. He didn’t even meet you in person, but you still managed to annoy him to no end but he knew that you were meant to be with him, so how could he not wait? And he would make sure that you understood that he wanted to be with you. Of course he would be subtle about it.
Oikawa: I don’t want to force you, but I really really want to be with you!
Subtle for sure
Oikawa: You are playing with my feelings here!
Oikawa: Since you seem to like games, how about I start playing, too? :D
Soulmate-chan: what do you mean?
Oikawa: A simple game of cat and mouse. I won´t ambush you at school or something but the universe still has its plans and whenever it gives me the chance to actually meet you, I will take it.
Oikawa: It´s easy, you keep running away and I try to catch you. Nothing much is changing from how it has been before but now I am an active player
Soulmate-chan: are you for real?
Oikawa: of course, I am. I want to meet you and you want to postpone that. Whoever wins the game gets what they want.
Soulmate-chan: fine, but I am on a winning streak ´, so don’t be too disappointed if you don’t succeed any time soon, okay? :)
God, even one stupid emoji sent by you made him excited at this point.
Baby steps, he had to remind himself.
Oikawa: don´t worry, I am ambitious. I will catch you.
Soulmate-chan: good luck
Oikawa: It´s destiny.
Soulmate-chan: We both know how much destiny was of help until now
Oikawa: so mean :<
You sighed as you let yourself fall on your back on your bed. Motionlessly, you stared at your ceiling. A mix of anxiety and excitement started to build within your stomach.
Deciding that it would be the best to try and sleep – even though you were sure you wouldn’t be able to – you reached out for the lamp on your nightstand, turning it off.
You were about to put your phone on flight mode when you heard the familiar sound of a notification.
You hesitated for a moment before texting back.
Oikawa: Good night, Soulmate-chan, hopefully you dream of me
Soulmate-chan: good night.
-
The next day you felt absolutely anxious.
The moment you woke up you were on guard, even if there was no way Oikawa could get in your own house. Still, you couldn’t help but look at your wardrobe in suspicion as if the boy would jump out of it any moment. Nor could you help but anticipate seeing him standing behind you through your mirror when you looked up again from washing your face.
When you walked into the kitchen you weren’t surprised to find it empty. Your mother stayed over at her boyfriend´s again as she did almost all the time. Leaving you alone with not just you schoolwork but also other tasks that kids your age usually didn’t have too worry about as much.
You only had enough time left to make yourself a toast that you took between your teeth as you were hastily putting on your shoes before storming out of your house.
Throughout the day your skittish behavior continued on. It didn’t help that your timer was seemingly going crazy. Maybe it was the fact that the two of you knew who each other were but it would easily jump from days to hours and back. It was strange and made you question in what way you were able to manipulate it.
Maybe the mere thought of going over to his school and meeting him would be able to influence your timer or maybe it was influenced by things that were beyond you.
You jumped when two trays suddenly hit the table you were sitting at in the moment. One beside you and the other one on the opposite of you. You shouldn’t be surprised anymore since the three of you ate lunch together for years without fail which made your jumpy behavior even more embarrassing.
You felt a soft red blooming on your cheeks.
“So do you want to tell us what the hell is wrong with you on your own free will or do we have to interrogate you?” Mina´s voice sounded from beside. You didn’t need to look at her to know that her eyes were burning into your skull.
You knew that the two of them would realize that you were acting off and you knew that they wouldn’t let it go, so you were already mentally prepared for this conversation.
“Well, I started to talk with my supposed soulmate” you said, making sure to keep your voice as steady as possible.
“You started talking? So you met him? Who is he?” Again, you didn’t need to look at Mina to know that her eyes were most likely sparkling.
“Wow, really? When the hell did that happen? Did you meet up last night?” Ray on the other hand seemed surprised, which you could understand.
“That is not exactly what happened” you put your arm forward, softly tucking at your sleeve to reveal your timer that was still ticking away on your wrists.
The black-haired girl furrowed her eyebrows at that while Ray looked at you in question.
“He texted me and to come back to Mina´s question. It´s likely Oikawa” you admitted before shoving a spoon with your food into your mouth.
“Oikawa?” The girl exclaimed excitedly “He is so cute! I cant believe your soulmate is such a-“
“Hey, shut up!” Almost chocking on your food due to her outburst you lunged forward to put a hand over her mouth. You didn’t need anyone to know that Oikawa was your soulmate. While you didn’t go to the same school, you could imagine that a social butterfly like him had connections everywhere or at least some fans.
You didn’t even confront him directly, so you sure as hell didn’t want to put up with some girls who thought of him as some kind of divine being.
“I don’t want the school to know. I don’t even know for 100%” you scolded her with a glare. She gave a muffled sorry and said some other words you couldn’t make out which was why you decided to let her go again.
“Are you sure it is him? You seemed unsure yesterday?” Ray asked you, remember the conversation the two of you shared while walking home together.
“As I said, I am not 100% sure but..” you stopped for a moment to find the right words “it is very likely since he seemed to have trouble with his soulmate running away from him” you continued.
“But how is it possible that the two of you have contact without stopping your timers?” Your female best friend finally asked the question that not even you could answer or at least you couldn’t answer it with certainty.
“Well, he has my number and texted me because he is sure I am his soulmate due to what happened yesterday. I believe you didn’t realize it Mina but the second before this thief tackled me out of the way, I was supposed to meet my soulmate, so-“
“so, if Oikawa didn’t decide to run after the thief the two of you would have met and that meeting lines up perfectly with the way your timer ticked down?” She finished for you, realization found it´s way on her face before she started to pout.
“That sucks! You were so close to meeting him. Now I am even more annoyed with that scum of a thief” she huffed.
“I guess, it played in my cards” you disagreed, slightly shrugging. It wasn’t like you were happy that your best friend was robbed and yes, you most likely would have preferred to meet your soulmate than having any kind of harm coming to your friends but a small part was also relived that that encounter bought you time.
“When are you going to meet up?” The question interrupted your train of thoughts, making you blink a few times.
“What?” you looked over to the male that was shoving his own food ungracefully into his mouth while waiting for your answer.
“You talked over the phone. The cat is out of the back. He knows who you are, so when are you going to officially meet?” the black-haired male clarified. You frowned.
“Not anytime soon,” you replied immediately.
“Wait what?” Mina piped in “you are telling me that you are still running? Come on, it´s starting to become old. Just go on a date already!” She encouraged you but knowing how much of a romantic she was you weren’t entirely sure if this was for you or just so you would live the romantic fantasy she imagined for you.
“We kind of made a bet or to be more exact: we started a game. We agreed that we wouldn’t actively seek each other out but if we are close to each other we will try to meet me while I will give everything to avoid that” you summarized what you talked about with Oikawa yesterday.
“It´s kind of weird but there is something romantic about it, too!” Mina grinned which made Ray roll his eyes.
“You see something romantic about everything!” He exclaimed, making your friend giggle.
“The world is full of romantic. Some people are just to bitter to see it” she countered, playfully sticking out her tongue.
“It´s really not like this. It´s the same as before. The only difference is that I now know who I have to avoid while he knows who he needs to find” you waved her off, hoping she would stop to put more meaning to the arrangement than there was.
“The two of you are hopeless but just wait. Oikawa will get you at some point and sweep you off your feet and you Ray, well, I just hope your soulmate doesn’t have too high expectations” you burst out laughing at her comment while Ray glared at her dangerously.
“Oh, that´s rich coming from the most annoying girl in existence. I can only pity your soulmate for having to put up with your loudmouth 24 hours” he spat.
“What did you just say?” Now it was her turn to glare at the tall male.
“You heard me” he replied dryly, and she was about to say something back when you decided to break this up.
“Let´s be real, we all three are exhausting as soulmates. Can we just agree on that and move on?” After all the three of you knew each other well enough to be aware of your good and bad sides.
“Fine, but there is one question I would like to have answered” Mina sighed. You looked at her, waiting for her to pronounce her question.
“How is it possible for you two to be in contact without disturbing your trigger?” You thought about it for a second but when you opened your mouth, Ray beat you to the punch.
“As I see it, there are to options. Either texting doesn’t count as meeting or the two of them aren’t soulmates. I would suggest looking it up if there are cases of people meeting online without knowing they are soulmates since you don’t want to meet Oikawa anytime soon”
“That’s a good idea. You only texted each other, right?”
You nodded.
“Yeah, it was late. I don’t know if a phone call can trigger the timer, but wouldn’t it jump then? Like if I asked him to call me right now, do you think my timer would jump to like two minutes and stop working when I answer the call? Or is technology something the universe just didn’t expect to happen?” You voiced out what has been on your mind all day.
“Technically, it shouldn’t matter if a phone call triggers it since you still wouldn’t have met him in person, but I am sure the internet will provide answers. You can’t be the first one to start of your relationship with your soulmate over the internet – even though you might be the only one to actually know that it is your soulmate” Ray said.
“We aren’t exactly in a relationship”
“Whatever”
As if scripted, you felt your phone vibrate. With a quick look you saw Oikawa´s name on your display. That reminded you that he even went through the trouble of sending you a quick good morning text. Even though you didn’t have time to answer and – (acted like)-  it slipped your mind.
[07:26 AM] Oikawa: Good morning, beautiful!
[12:33 PM] Oikawa: Sooo, how was your day? Have you already been bragging about me to your friends? ; )))
If he only knew.
-
Oikawa didn’t even notice that he was grinning at his phone like an idiot. His teammates who were in the changing room with him though, had no trouble pointing it out.
“What makes our captain look even more idiotic than usual?” Matsukawa asked while pulling his shirt over his head.
“Or to be more precisely, who?” Hanamaki piped in with a small grin on his face. Oikawa had always been a flirt but ever since his soulmate was close by he didn’t have eyes for anyone else, which was why the boys were surprised to have Oikawa staring at his phone like he just won the lottery.
“Believe it or not but that idiot finally found his soulmate but instead of cornering her he just sends her silly texts” Iwaizumi explained with a deadpan expression on his face. When he met up with Oikawa in the morning, the captain was even more energetic than usually. He didn’t even have to ask before Oikawa told him about  – as well as showed him – the texts he exchanged with his supposed soulmate.
Oikawa also informed him about this challenge which he personally thought to be stupid but when he saw the determination in Oikawa´s eyes he knew that there was no way to convince the male to drop this game and just find his soulmate.
“What do you mean they are texting?” Matsukawa´s eyes immediately fell to the brown haired male´s wrist. His eyebrows furrowed when he caught sight of the timer which was still working. “Your timer is still going” he pointed out.
“Yeah, well. We didn’t exactly meet in person yet. I saw the back of her head but that´s about it” Oikawa explained with a grin but the other boys looked at him with confusion.
“Then how do you know she is your soulmate? She could be a scam. Did one of your fangirls finally convince you that she is the love of your life?” Hinamaki joked, which earned him a pouty look of the captain.
“She isn´t a fangirl. She doesn’t go to our school. It´s complicated but I know it is her. We almost met and the timing was just too perfect. Her story with her soulmate also matches mine. There is just no way it´s not her. I can feel it” Oikawa tried to explain when he noticed how suspicious everyone was.
“A feeling? If you say so but that doesn’t explain why you don’t go and meet her?” Matsukawa threw in.
“She doesn’t want to meet him yet but he wants to. Instead of forcing her, though, he wants to beat her at her own game. I see it as a waste of time but I guess, some people could call it romantic” Iwaizumi replied before Oikawa could open his mouth.
Now that everyone was dressed he was the first one to leave the club room, followed by Oikawa and the other two boys.
“I call that stupid. Why wait? I would want to meet her immediately” Hanamaki admitted, a dreamy look took over his eyes as he thought about meeting his soulmate one day.
Oikawa was aware that most people wouldn’t be as patient as him but he couldn’t bring himself to force you to meet him – at least not without going over all the other options.
You haven’t even met officially but your happiness already became one of his priorities.
[12:39 AM] Soulmate-chan: Besides the fact that I expect you to jump me any second, good I guess
[12:40 AM] Soulmate-chan: I wouldn´t call it bragging. More like analyzing the situation
[12:40 AM] Oikawa: You mean, analyzing how hot of a soulmate I am? ;))
[12:43AM] Soulmate-chan: Bye :)
[12:43 AM] Oikawa: Don´t leave me, Soulmate-chan. We know it´s the truth :<<<
Both of you smiled as you looked down at your phone.
Oikawa couldn´t help but be over the moon that you would answer him while you couldn´t deny that he was kind of adorable.
And hot, not that you would ever tell him.

As if slowly suffocating on flowers from unrequited love wasn’t enough, an unrequited love for your soulmate turns the flowers to poison and changes a disease from treatable to fatal.
On the day Iwaizumi turns eighteen, a soulmate mark is branded onto his skin. Unfortunately, it’s also the day he starts dying.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been about 2 and a half months since Y/N and Suna started seeing each other 🐥
Y/N has something on Iwaizumi, and that something is his feelings for Oikawa. (I'm not even going to try and hide this one - they're like soulmates to me)
I just know hypothetically Reiko is hot. What are they feeding this family I want to know

fic recs masterlist pt 2
So here's a part two to my first fic rec list because I thought the first list was too long to add more or I've only read them more recently
Haikyuu!
you're all i see, you're all i need by DailyMelody: iwaoi fic where iwaizumi lies to his family that he and oikawa are dating and he slowly realizes they haven't been faking their feelings, nsfw in the last chapter
Sprout, Bloom, Grow by SpaceJammie: matsuhana and iwaoi fic from the perspective of matsukawa, this is probably my fav hq I'm keeping up with rn, the characterizations and story are so deep and well written, unfinished
Let the Light Out by UhohShouto: post canon kagehina fic where kageyama realizes he's super into hinata and they make a bet that leads to them smooching and doing much more, nsfw
what i really mean by solyn: kuroken fic where they're both sort of clueless about their feelings while everyone else around them knows they're in love, nsfw
it drives you crazy getting old by atsumusbiceps: a sakuatsu 13 Going On 30 au that's absolutely adorable, omi is in love from the beginning but atsumu thinks being angry and attracted to someone is normal
Gray in the Middle. by DeadDrabble (MisakillDatMonkey): crazy good sunaosa fic where suna is a model and osamu is his new assistant, the development of their friendship while osamu slowly gets to see the real suna and coming to see the toxicity of the fashion industry, unfinished, future nsfw
Sakusa Kiyoomi's Short and Unhelpful Guide To Falling In Love by honest_pebble: sakuatsu fic where omi asks for atsumu to kiss one drunken night and they can't seem to keep their hands off each other in the months after
i pretend you're mine, all the damn time by theglitterati: bokuaka high school fic where bokuto is nervous about his lack of experience when a girl asks him out so he asks akaashi to help him learn how to kiss, very cute and silly
sleeping with strangers by starbeyy: kagehina fic where kageyama is a lawyer that's afraid of attachment and only sleeps with strangers until he gets an extremely cute client that makes him less afraid, nsfw in later chapters
Take a hint by badreputation: sunaosa fic where suna doesn't realize osamu is trying to woo him and is just an oblivious dummy
i sing the body electric by viverella: iwaoi getting together fic where iwaizumi beings to realize he doesn't have entirely platonic feelings about his best friend
dearly departed by radiantradish: daisuga ghost au where suga is stuck in limbo while he's in a coma and daichi is a firefighter that keeps dreaming about him
Winter is Red by MeikoAtsushi: technically this is the sunaosa spin-off to their original sakuatsu fic but the premise is that osamu can see the red threads of fate that tie soulmates together but he doesn't have one and falls in love with suna anyway, this fic is fucking PAINFUL because osamu is determined to make his life miserable and try to push suna away but he can never stay away for long, nsfw
the posterior probablity by izayas: sakuatsu au where omi is a professor and atsumu is an m.d. who's taking his class and they fall in love lol
SunKissed by Paintbrushyy_Ducky98: bokuaka fic where akaashi's family's new pool boy is really cute and he sort of seems familiar... nsfw
favor from the boy you can't resist by crossbelladonna: bokuaka fic where bokuto asks akaashi to be his fake boyfriend and things go as well as you'd expect
Miles by lettersinpetals: kuroken post canon/during chapter 402.1 fic where kuroo is very aware of his love for kenma but is convinced kenma doesn't feel the same
Night Moves by fluorophoring: kuroken fic where they just keep hooking up at night without actually dating or discussing their feelings, heavy nsfw
What to Do (to You) by Mooifyourecows: iwaoi fic where matsuhana set them up on a blind date despite already being roommates and having crushes on each other, nsfw
take me the way i am by almostsophie1: kuroken fic where kuroo wants to know if kenma is willing to have sex with him just to "practice", nsfw obviously
spill my guts by wasted: bokuaka fic where akaashi is a massive pining simp and doesn't know what to do about his crush
Legend Has It by sifuhotman: sunaosa crime au??? i literally think about this fic all the time and how it's not finished, such an interesting plot with osamu as a detective and suna is a con artist who has connections to some underground crime syndicates, the last chapter posted legit made me cry, i really identify with osamu in this fic, nsfw in later chapters
Miscellaneous
Apple of Your Eye by Kattythingz: sk8 renga fic but it's if Adam became obsessed with Reki instead of Langa, highkey NUTS how good Adam's characterization is because you want to bash his skull in with a hammer
A Crown of Gems and Gold by Kattythingz: fma edling fic that's basically a rewrite of the entire series but if edling got together soon after their first meeting, the best characterization, action, and dialogue ever utilized in writing, unfinished but ongoing
Always an Angel, Never a God by oktsukki: jjk satosugu au where hidden inventory didn't end as bad as they did in canon, a lot of good healing and characterization
lights out by phollie: hxh killugon fic where killua is just very soft about gon as gon shows him around the island he grew up on
Sword of Damocles by orphan_account: mp100 terumob au fic where teruki asks mob out as a joke but he actually starts to fall for him

Your Voice
Oikawa Tooru X Reader
-In a world where only a few people has a soulmate, and they are burdened with a disability until they meet their other half.
Chapter 18: The Taste Of Love
Italic signed, Bold written
Tumblr media
Oikawa once again had his entire, table, lockers and bag full of sweets. He absolutely dreads this day.
People would say it'd be his favourite day as a chance to reap all his narcissism, but its really not. Having the fact he's still alone and will probably be for i dont know perhaps forever with food he can never enjoy thrown at him.
He hated sweets, he doesnt understand why people kept giving him. Years and years of him declining and saying no. No one listened.
So he did what he's always been doing to the sweets he's always gotten.
having them all in his bag. He went to the gym, it was after school and they had another practice.
"Yahoo~" He sang.
"You took forever."
"You got more than you did last year huh." Hanamaki smirked.
Oikawa groaned and tossed one large bag full of cookies and chocolates. It had been a tradition for the boys to gather valentines gifts and make it into a potluck so everyone in the team would get some. It was always Oikawa bringing them but hey, he doesn't like it anyway.
The man looked around. "Is Y/N at the locker room?"
"No she's at Shiratorizawa. She's giving their sweets." Iwaizumi said.
"SPEAKING OF!!!" Matsukawa cut off. "She got me something too, it was sweet of her. I didnt know she can bake!"
Oikawa blinked. He may not be a fan of sweets but he takes note of who gives them. Not one of them had your name. But you gave Matsukawa one?
"Oh, yeah I got one too!" Hanamaki bragged.
Even Hanamaki? Was it because he told you he doesn't like sweets? Was that why you didnt give him one?
"She made one for everyone." Yahaba interjected.
Oikawa's heart broke. Everyone but him. He wanted to have a bite. Even not being able to taste it, eating something you made... the thought of it makes him excited.
"Get the potluck ready already. Im going to get something."
Oikawa went to the locker and placed his stuff. He sat there too for a while.
He was thinking of you. He appreciates the fact you remembered he doesn't like sweet but it hurt that he was left out.
He took a breathy breath. It hurt him. Not wanting the others to check up on him, he left the locker room so he doesnt over stay.
Upon exiting, the boys had already put all the chocolate and cookies in a big bowl. Some were already eating.
Matsukawa saw Oikawa's expression. He handed him a chocolate.
"Maybe it'll lift your spirits."
"He hates those." Iwaizumi reminded him.
"Right..."
Oikawa put it in his mout anyway. The flavor of nothing made him slump more.
"Surprise attack!" Hanamaki then shoved a cookie to Oikawa's mouth.
The boy was about to spit it out when his stomach dropped.
"No." His eyes widened. Tears were forming.
This wasn't what he wanted.
It was chewy. It was his first encounter with flavor so he doesn't understand how to explain jt. It bittersweet chocolate chips. Chunks of chocolate were around, chocolate spreads to his tongue in each bite. It also had walnuts. They added crunch and a nice nutty flavor and a hint of bitterness that’s different from the bittersweet taste of the chocolate.
He had no words. It tasted amazing. It tasted beautiful. No words could come to his mind.
He pushed the guys away and looked around at the potluck
"OI SHITTYKAWA WHAT THE-" Iwaizumi was about to kill him.
"Fuck!" He sobbed.
He looked for any signs of nuts on cookies. But there were too many. He moved the cookies around looking for something. He'd bite from every cookie with a nut he found.
"Oikawa!" Hanamaki shouted.
He didn't stop searching. That was his only link to his true love. He couldn't lose it like this.
The boys were getting worried.
"Oi, oi, oi," Iwaizumi pulled him away. But Oikawa was struggling against him.
He needed it.
Matsukawa helped Iwaizumi.
"Oi, Oikawa what's wrong?!" The entire team was surrounding him.
"Fuck!" He sobbed throwing away the cookie he was holding.
He curled up and sobbed to his knees.
"Oikawa I'm sorry for feeding you... come one it was a joke..." Hanamaki was feeling so shit.
But they didn't know.
"I lied." His voice broke.
"What do you mean...?" Iwaizumi asked hand behind his friends back.
"I just lost it..." His sobbing was coming back to him. "I'm never going to find them..."
"Find who?" The guys asked.
"Oikawa-san..." Yahaba gasped.
"You lied about it? How?" Kyotani looked at him shocked.
"Lied about what?" Kindachi asked the couple.
"Oikawa-san has a soulmate..." Yahaba answered.
Everyone looked at his sobbing form.
"I'm assuming he also lost his taste... Until Hanamaki fed him something his partner made."
Oikawa tighten his hold on his knees.
"No way..."
"Your whole life you lied about it???"
"No fucking way..."
He couldn't careless about what they said. All he could think about was the love he had just lost thanks to his stupidity. Why hadn't he thought of tasting them before this potluck?
They were all looking at him in pity.
"He lost his only link to the love of his life." The couple said.
The flavour of the cookies still linger at his mouth. His heart tightens every time he thought about it.
He will never find his true love. The taste lingering, is the taste of his true love. The true love he lost forever.
And he won't ever find her.
