I litteraly can't stop thinking about this post from @whumped-by-glitter ~ Like, can we (please) take a minute to think about how perfect it's for Wandanat or BlackHill x young!R where they take her out of the Red Room?? | Warnings & Tags : messy blurb? (imagine? idk, just wanting to share my thoughts, and couldn't stop writing), mainly BlackHill, mentions of the Red Room/past abuses, no idea if that makes sense. Imagine, teen or young adult R that fails a mission, and is captured by SHIELD/The Avengers. R isn't really cooperative, even if she is not under mind control anymore, she firmly believes that. However, Nat just can't accept the idea of leaving her rotting in a cell for the rest of her life for something that isn't really her fault. Despite what R can say, Natasha wants to believe that it's not true, and that she will be able to show her that life is way more than the Red Room.
But it's not that easy. Nat more than anyone else knows that you don't come back from the Red Room that easily, and she can only assumes that it would be worst for someone that went under mind control. And she was right. At first, she tried to introduce you to how life outside is, how sweet it could be, but she quickly noticed that it didn't work. Whenever she asks you a question about what you would like, she gets no answer. If she doesn't tell you to eat or to go somewhere, you don't do it. The amount of time you didn't followed her or talked because she didn't especially told you to do so is insane, especially in the beginning. So she decides to do what she thinks it's best, even if she hates it: giving you order, being stern with you, offering you a place you know, where you feel safe (no matter how sick it's) because you can predict it, a space where you'll be fine as long as you do as your ask. The world is a big and scary place in which to evolve in, especially when you don't have the keys to understand it - what you do something you're not supposed to, and you're punished for that? R will eventually come here, but it'll definitely takes a lot of time.
But obvsiouly Nat' is hating herself for that. She knows she has to do it, for you, but it doesn't make it easier. She does it because she believes it will help you to feel better, and because if you're under her orders, they have less reasons to be worried that you would attend something under Dreykov's name (or try to go back to him). She feels guilty, and old thoughts about her not being better than the man that made them are coming back. But Maria/Wands are here to help their wife <3
AND SO, here is how I see things if it's WandaNat we're talking about - I picture Wands as the soft mom she is shown as in Wandavision, and she would definitely not appreciate Nat's methods. She trusts her wife, she knows that she has her reasons, and it must be the best way to help you, but she still doesn't like it. She hates the way you always look down, the way you would do everything her wife is asking without thinking twice about it, and most of it, she hates when you're calling Nat' "ma'am" or something else of that kind. She hates even more than her wife isn't saying anything. She didn't know you for long, but she already loves you as her own, and it pains her when you reject her. Sometimes, she and Nat would argue about the whole situation (and those arguments would definitely go too far).
BUT imagine if it's BlackHill?? Even better in my opinion, and definitely can't stop thinking about it ~ Because, unlike Wanda, Maria is directly concerned. She read your file, she saw footages of you killing dozens of people, she tracked you, lost men in the process, and she saw how you didn't seem to regret anything when she questioned you. So Maria has every reasons to be worried, especially for her wife's security (physically and mentally). What if it's just a part of a biggest plan to attempt to kill the redhead? Or worst, to take her back there? I can easily Maria being upset, and taking it out on the other recruit she is training (poor them), not daring to do much more than glaring at you, knowing her wife wouldn't appreciate. And even if she doesn't appreciate R, she trusts and love her wife, so she lets her do her thing. But she is always somewhere looking at you with a stern face, waiting for the moment you would make a mistake to step-in. But you never really make a mistake, always following Nat's orders at the perfection, which is kinda frustrating because then she has no reason to get rid of you. Except if one day R's misunderstood one of Nat's orders, which lead to a heavy situation <3 It's honestly the only situation I imagine leading to an argument between Maria & Nat. Like, maybe you hurt someone or stole something or idk, thinking you did good, and they would be proud, but when you come in the room they're just looking at you with that shocked face. But you did what you had to, no? That's exactly what you were asked to do, so why are they angry? AND IMAGINE THE ANGST FROM NOW. R's confusion, Nat' desesperatly trying to find a solution, trying to convince Maria that it was just a mistake (that was her fault because she is the one that wasn't careful with her words) but she doesn't change her mind. Pulling the "what if it happens again?" and "I am your superior, you don't get to discuss my order" cards, knowing that it would pain Nat', but she has to do it in order to keep her safe. Bonus point if Nat turns to Fury, trying to convince him as she knows her wife won't change her mind, but he doesn't say much, just agreeing with her agent, mumbling a simple "sorry" Nat doesn't want to hear. Obviously, it would eventually
AND (because there is more), I also can't stop thinking about that comment from @light-me-on-pyre ;
Tumblr media
Like, I can easily imagine R hating Nat'. It would make so much sense because she grew up in a place where Nat' was pictured as the enemy, the one that betrayed "the ones that gave everything to her". But it wouldn't be the exact reason why R is hating Nat'. I mean, right, she hates her because she left, but mainly because of the consequences it had for the ones that came after - the worsened conditions, the mind control, etc - and how she succeed what's supposed to be impossible: leaving the Red Room. Not only physically, but mentally. Imagine R seeing Nat' on the news when she is on a mission or seeing her interacting with Maria/the Avengers, witnessing Nat' being happy. It's something she was told she doesn't deserve/will never have from a young age, so why would Nat' have the right to be happy when so many didn't? It was so much easier to hate on Nat' than on Dreykov all these years because she wasn't here, and no one would blame her to do so. But now? It's easier to continue hating Nat', for R to convince herself that the redhead is bad despite the appearances because it's easier than admitting that her whole life is a lie (kinda). And the fact that Nat' has to take the "bad guy" role in order to help R only makes things easier because, in the end, she is not different from the others, right? And so, as Nat' can't provide R the comfort she needs, it's all on Maria (at least for the beginning) who doesn't have a choice. But we all know that despite her cold demeanour, she is all soft, she is just scared for the ones she loves <3 Which includes Nat', because she saw how her wife is affected by your arrival. First, she has nightmares again because, with you, inevitably came back old memories and traumas. Then, Maria can see how her wife is so invested in your case that she barely sleep/eat/ (which is one of the reasons why she doesn't really appreciate R ...). But also, what would happen if they can't save you?
Bonus point if things get better but something happen, and everything get worse again, throwing away all these months of progress. But what if they don't have the patience to start all over again?
It's definitely (one of) my favorite trope because the amount of angst/comfort it holds is insane, and I am going crazy about it (you can tell by the lenght of that post that was supposed to be a few lines ...). Do I want to write something like that when I already have too many WIPs? Yes. Will I do it? I don't know, but I'll definitely be thinking about it 24/24 & 7/7.

"Wait, Matt actually accused you of screwing him over and using him just to make a name for yourself?" Skyler asked as you sat in your kitchen together after work later that evening. "I don't remember anything in your article worth him getting upset over when I read it yesterday."
You shook your head. "That's because there wasn't anything! I absolutely raved about both his culinary skills and his food, I talked about how much care and consideration he puts into perfecting his recipes, and I even mentioned his volunteer activities at Clinton Church."
Skyler shook her head. "Walk me through the conversation again."
"I emailed him my article then decided to call him a little later to let him know that I had sent it over. He seemed a bit put off but I wasn't sure if he was still upset with me over running out on him the other night or if something else was bothering him, so I asked him if he had read it. Suddenly he just went off on me, saying how all journalists were exactly alike and how we're always looking for the next big scoop no matter who we screw over in the process, then he said that he thought I actually cared about him and that I was no longer welcome at Daredevil."
Your voice broke, the hurt and anger in Matt's voice upsetting you all over again. "The worst part of it is that I do care about him, Sky, I -- I think I might have been falling for him."
Skyler reached out and gave your hand a gentle squeeze. "Oh, honey, I'm so sorry."
You shook your head with a sniffle. "I hate to admit it, but maybe Kelsie was right and Matt was just stringing me along but got tired of waiting until my article was actually published to stop speaking to me, so he just made an excuse."
Skyler made a face. "Ugh. First off, don't ever use the phrase 'Kelsie was right' in my presence ever again. Secondly, didn't you say that he opened up to you about some personal stuff but asked you to keep it off the record?"
You nodded. "Yeah, and I did. I didn't mention anything to do with that in the article."
You pulled up your work email on your phone, opening the attachment you had sent Matt so you could read over it once again. "I didn't even -- wait, what is this?"
You scrolled through the document, your blood turning to ice in your veins. "Oh shit. Oh no, no , no, no, no, no. "
A look of alarm crossed Skyler's face. "What's wrong?"
"This isn't my article."
"What? What do you mean, that isn't your article?"
I mean , the article I sent Matt is not the article I wrote, Sky." You handed your phone to Skyler. "It's got my name on the byline, but I didn't write this. It's no wonder Matt was so pissed at me though -- this article is a smear campaign."
Skyler's eyebrows raised as she read through it. "Someone had to have switched the documents. Did you leave your computer unlocked and unattended at any point today?"
You shook your head. "No, of course not, I--"
You sighed. "Wait, yes. I was getting ready to send my article to Matt when Kelsie told me I had a package downstairs that I had to go personally sign for."
Skyler raised an eyebrow. "Let me guess, there was no package."
You nodded. "Exactly."
Skyler tapped at your phone screen. "Um, did you also send it to Max and Carrie and tell them Ellison approved your article and said to go ahead and send it to them?"
You shook your head. "No, why?"
"Because it looks like you did."
"What?" You grabbed your phone, scowling as you saw that the same attachment had been sent to the people who handled the layout for the physical paper as well as the digital edition. "Oh, but hell no. It's a good thing you caught that."
Skyler shook her head in disbelief. "That absolute bitch. I'm going to destroy her."
You sighed. "I don't know how I'm going to prove Kelsie is the one who wrote it and planted it on my PC though."
Skyler grinned. "Oh, I do. You didn't know that you can see who the original author of a document is and look at a document's editing history, did you?"
You shook your head.
"I bet Kelsie didn't either. I need your laptop."
You retrieved your laptop and pulled the document up on it before letting Skyler take over.
After a few clicks, Skyler nodded. "Sure enough. Not only is she listed as the original author of the document, but her digital signature is all over it."
You shook your head. "We need to go talk to Ellison."
You sent him a text message. Are you still at the office? I need to talk to you about something important.
A few seconds later, he replied. Yeah, still here trying to get this editorial column done. What's up?
I'll be there in 10 minutes. Don't go anywhere.
You saved the file to a flash drive, grabbed your keys, then you and Skyler practically ran to the Bulletin.
As soon as you got there, you booted up your computer and printed a copy of Kelsie's fake article. "Okay, let's go talk to Ellison."
You picked up the printout of Kelsie's fake article from the printer before you and Skyler headed to Ellison's office.
He looked up at the two of you tiredly. "Whatcha got for me?"
"Sabotage," Skyler replied. "As well as sneaky, underhanded, unethical so-called journalism."
Ellison's brow furrowed. "What are you talking about?"
"I have reason to believe that Kelsie swapped my Restaurant Week article out with a fake one in an attempt to discredit me," you explained.
You set the copy of the fake article down on Ellison's desk. "I wound up sending this to Chef Murdock, who was understandably upset by it and is how I caught it. And not only that, but Kelsie sent it to Max and Carrie while I was away from my computer."
Ellison's eyebrows raised as he read the fake article. "What makes you so sure it was Kelsie?"
Skyler scoffed. "Isn't it obvious? She's an evil, backstabbing bitch."
You shook your head. "Kelsie's had a personal vendetta against me ever since I got promoted to Features and has been going around all week accusing me of 'stealing' the Restaurant Week feature out from underneath her."
"And she's been saying all sorts of horrible things about Chef Murdock," Skyler added before pointedly looking at you. "Things that probably aren't even true."
Ellison sighed. "I knew she wasn't very happy with me for passing the Restaurant Week feature to you, but I wouldn't have suspected that she'd actually resort to sabotage."
He set the article down. "However, you both know that simply providing me with a copy of an allegedly-written article isn't enough. I need solid proof."
Skyler set the flash drive down on Ellison's desk. "Here's your proof. You'll notice that Kelsie is the original owner of the document and has edited it multiple times, and I bet if you look on her computer you'd find it there as well."
"Plus if you review the security footage from around 1:30 today you'll probably see her poking around at my desk." You set copies of the time-stamped emails sent to Max and Carrie. "She sent me on a wild goose chase trying to find some package I needed to personally sign for while she sent the fake article to Max and Carrie for publication."
"I wouldn't be surprised if she was behind the email server conveniently going down on Wednesday afternoon so you couldn't email your article to Mitch then," Skyler added. "It's a good thing you decided to print it and turn it in anyway."
Ellison sighed. "Do you still have your original file?"
You nodded. "She deleted it off of my computer here at work but I keep a copy of all of my articles on an external hard drive at home."
"Good. As soon as you get home, resend it to Max and Carrie marked urgent and CC me so I'll also have it digitally. In the meantime, I'll get Phil to pull the security footage from today."
"Okay." You bit your lip. "Um, is it okay if I take Monday off? After the week I've had I need a mental health day."
Ellison looked at you sympathetically and nodded. "Yeah, sure. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry for all this."
You shrugged. "Not your fault. What I don't get though is why Kelsie also chose to go after Chef Murdock so hard."
"I think I can answer that," Skyler said, handing you her phone. "Take a look at Kelsie's Facebook."
You looked at her latest post, which was a picture of her cozying up to a handsome, dark-haired, blue-eyed man. Romantic weekend away with my love, the photo was captioned. "So?"
Skyler shook her head and pulled up Kelsie's boyfriend's profile. "See who she's dating?"
Your eyebrows raised as you read his bio. "Huh, yeah, I guess that makes sense now."
Skyler showed it to Ellison. "Did you know this?"
Ellison shook his head. "No, I had no idea. It does explain why she was pushing so hard about getting the feature switched back though."
You nodded. "That way she could control the narrative."
Ellison sighed. "Let me go ahead and call Phil. Don't forget to CC me on that correction to Max and Carrie so it's documented."
You nodded. "Okay."
"I'll send out a staff-wide memo on Monday after everything is said and done, but in the meantime, don't say anything to anyone else on staff about this. I don't want it getting back to Kelsie so she can try to cover her tracks."
You and Skyler both nodded. "Yes, sir."
As you left the office and were headed back down the elevator, Skyler asked, "So what are you going to do about Matt? Still want me to kick his ass for you?"
You let out a light laugh. "No, that's okay. I'll just… move on, I guess? I mean, I'm going to send my actual article to him but he made it pretty clear that he didn't want anything else to do with me so I doubt he'll even open my email."
"Then it's his loss."
You stepped out of the elevator as the doors opened. "Thanks, Sky."
Skyler bit her lip. "What about Foggy? You think I should cancel my date with him tomorrow?"
You shook your head. "No way. Just because it didn't work out with me and Matt doesn't mean you shouldn't at least give Foggy a chance."
You gave her a wink. "Besides, just because I'm not welcome at Daredevil doesn't mean that you can't bring me some takeout from there, especially if you're dating the other owner."
Skyler laughed and gave you a hug. "Thanks, bestie."
"Let me know how it goes, ok?"
Skyler nodded. "I will."
You headed home and grabbed your laptop so you could send the correct article to Max and Carrie, CCing Ellison on the email with the explanation "Sorry, wrong attachment sent. Please use this attached copy in the print and online editions on Monday." .
You opened a new email and attached the correct file.
Subject: Explanation About Bulletin Article
Attachment: Restaurant Week Feature V1.doc
You took a deep breath.
Dear Matt,
You probably won't even open this email, but I wanted to let you know that the article I sent you earlier today was not the article I had written about you, nor is it the article that will be appearing in Monday's edition of the Bulletin. Long story short, someone else on staff replaced the file for my article (which I had given a hardcopy of to my editor for approval on Wednesday) with the one I erroneously sent you earlier today.
I promise I never meant to hurt you and I swear I would never use you (or anyone else, for that matter) just to get a lead on a story or try to pad my portfolio. This past week was one of the best of my life and it was genuinely a pleasure spending time with you and getting to know you… both inside the kitchen and out.
You bit your lip, trying to decide if you should tell Matt exactly how much he had begun to mean to you. Ultimately you decided against it, instead closing with ' Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors'.
You added your work signature, then sent the email.
You sat back and sighed. While it hurt knowing that you would never get to find out if the spark you had felt with Matt could've ignited into something real, you also knew that you would treasure the time you had spent with him forever.
Tumblr media
"Matt, there's a gentleman on the phone asking for you," Karen said as Matt and Foggy prepped for brunch service on Sunday. "Says he's from the Bulletin."
Matt nodded and wiped his hands. He had called the editor on Friday evening and had left a voicemail disputing the information contained in your article and asking for a resolution. "I'll take it in the office. Thanks, Karen."
He could feel both her and Foggy watching him as he exited the kitchen and headed to the office.
He picked up the phone and transferred the call. "Matthew Murdock speaking."
"Chef Murdock," the man replied. "This is Mitchell Ellison. I'm the editor over at the New York Bulletin. "
Matt was hit with a pang. You had emailed him again on Friday afternoon but with his hurt over your article being so fresh and so raw Matt had been letting your email sit unopened in his inbox until he was ready to hear what kind of (undoubtedly poor) excuse you'd had for using him.
He cleared his throat. "Mmhmm."
"I just wanted to call and personally apologize for the feature article you received in your email on Friday. That was not the article I had approved for publication and I wanted to let you know that after a brief internal investigation, the person responsible for it is being terminated first thing tomorrow morning. I assure you, we do not stand for such unethical behavior at the Bulletin ."
Matt winced. While he was extremely hurt and angry with you, he hadn't actually set out to get you fired. "Thank you for letting me know."
"I'm sending over the feature that I actually had approved for tomorrow's edition of the paper and I must say, it's some of the best, most honest writing I've ever read. I think you'll be much more pleased with it."
Matt heard his inbox chime with a new email. "I think it just came in."
"Great. Apologies again for the mistake."
"Mmhmm. Thanks for returning my call."
"Of course. Have a good day, Chef."
"You too. Goodbye."
Matt hung up and sighed, then popped in his earbuds and pulled up Ellison's email.
Subject: NYC RESTAURANT WEEK FEATURE
Attachments: Restaurant Week Feature V1.doc
Chef Murdock,
Attached is the article that has been approved for this year's New York Restaurant Week feature. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Mitchell Ellison
Editor-in-Chief, New York Bulletin
Matt opened the attachment and tapped the keyboard command to begin his text-to-speech program, surprised to hear your name on the byline. He would have thought that whoever had been reassigned the article would get credited, especially since the editor-in-chief had said that your employment at the Bulletin was to be terminated.
Either way, Mr. Ellison had been right -- the rewritten article was immensely more positive than the previous one had been and actually included information that Matt had revealed to you during your recorded interviews… as well as information that hadn't been recorded and therefore only you would be able to include.
Matt's brow furrowed. Something's not adding up.
He closed out of the article, then navigated to your email.
He took a deep breath and opened it.
"Dear Matt," his text-to-speech program dictated,
"You probably won't even open this email, but I wanted to let you know that the article I sent you earlier today was not the article I had written about you, nor is it the article that will be appearing in Monday's edition of the Bulletin. Long story short, someone else on staff replaced the file for my article (which I had given a hardcopy of to my editor for approval on Wednesday) with the one I erroneously sent you earlier today. "
Matt tapped the spacebar on his keyboard to pause his program, filled with an odd mix of confusion and relief. So if you hadn't actually written the first article you had sent him… who had and why?
He tapped the spacebar again to continue.
"I promise I never meant to hurt you," your email continued, "and I swear I would never use you (or anyone else, for that matter) just to get a lead on a story or try to pad my portfolio. This past week was one of the best of my life and it was genuinely a pleasure spending time with you and getting to know you… both inside the kitchen and out.
Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors, sincerely yours…"
Matt navigated to the attachment, sucking in a breath as he realized that the article that the Bulletin 's editor-in-chief had sent him a few minutes before had been your article -- your real article, apparently.
Matt groaned and covered his face with his hands. He had been so caught up in his worry about getting hurt again that he had never even considered the possibility that you hadn't written the other article.
"Everything okay?"
Matt shook his head as Foggy entered the office. "I messed up."
"What do you mean?"
Matt sighed and said your name. "I was wrong about her, Fog, I was completely wrong. She didn't write that article."
"She didn't? How did she wind up sending it to you then?"
"Apparently one of her coworkers had replaced the file for her real article with the one she sent me -- I'm assuming as some form of sabotage or something. The editor at the Bulletin told me that the person responsible is being terminated first thing tomorrow morning."
"So did you get to read the real article?"
Matt nodded. "Yeah, it's right here."
Foggy moved to his side and leaned over his shoulder so he could read it.
After a few minutes, he straightened. "Damn, Matt, that was beautiful."
Matt nodded. "I know."
"So what are you going to do?"
"Apologize profusely and hope like hell that she'll forgive me."
Matt sighed. If you didn't forgive him, at least he had the memories he had made with you over the past week.
But if you did … Well, he wouldn't screw up a third time.

Been following along with Budding Romance (🌟 star anon from before) and I just thought of "I won't let you take her away from me Jeremiah" possessive Xavier turning into, wait no "I won't let her take YOU away from ME"
First off 🌟 Nonnie, I love you and your brain. It's beautiful. I smooch you both 💋💋 (and your other ask is in my drafts bc im writing stuff for it!)
GASP! I almost forgot my obligatory @skynapple tag bc she deserves to know how much her fic has changed the brain chemistry of our side of the fandom lol.
SECONDLY- Xavier realizing he's about to lose Jeremiah, who's been with him through what is likely hands down some of the worst moments in his life? I can definitely see that causing some panic.
Roxie and I talked here about Xavier being very resistant to change and how, while he might not realize his dependency on Jeremiah on a conscious level, subconsciously, that's the one person who's been a constant in his life since they left Philos. Even if it's something you hate, humans still NEED consistency to be happy and healthy (both mentally and physically). You might hate getting up at 7am every day, or going to work, but living a life of pure chaos (or existing in pure apathy) just doesn't foster growth and recovery.
So once he realizes that MC might drive a wedge between him and his ONLY support pillar? The singular source of consistency in his life since they arrived on earth? The one person he's been able to count on for any normal conversation where he didn't have to pretend he was someone/something he's not? That would be terrifying. That would be devastating.
Xavier KNOWS Mc will reincarnate. Xavier knows she'll be back. He's lost her at least twice before, likely thrice, maybe more. That is a pain he's dealt with and learned to come to terms with. He's got a spot on his shelf for that pain and grief and processing.
He's never lost Jeremiah. Of all the Backtrackers that have left their cause, died, or outright betrayed him, we as the players know that Jeremiah has remained at his side the entire time, and that definitely means that Xavier is more than aware of it.
The saddest part is that I don't think he'll even realize all of this at first, and I definitely don't think it's his conscious brain either. This is something that likely comes to him in a dream, where he wakes up in a cold sweat with his heart racing as he flies out of bed, light sword drawn in his hand before he's even realized what he's done. Something that rattles him so deeply that it takes him a solid minute just to settle, to sit at the edge of his bed and calm his breathing with his head in his hands as he grapples with the discomfort of realizing just how attached he is to the both of them, but to Jeremiah specifically.
He is damaged and broken and unhinged. But so are shooting stars and comets.

WIP Snip
Thanks for the tag, @perverse-idyll! This is from a Minerva/Wilhelmina piece I've been toying with for months. This is the first stab at this scene, so no money-back guarantees on quality. My writing process usually has me starting with dialogue and filling in other elements from there, so this is a bit bare-bones at the mo.
Trying to tag folks who haven't been tagged yet: @yletylyf, @cailynwrites, @ladyvoldywrites, @snapeaddict
When winter finally relinquished its frosty grip on the Highlands, Wilhelmina insisted they take brisk walks around the Hogwarts grounds instead of cosying up in the common room to do their revising.
They trudged along the edges of the forest, Minerva Vanishing any remaining snowdrifts with her wand, and Will pointing out the Bowtruckles that had just started to appear on the still-bare branches of the trees and which Minerva only pretended to see.
“Explain to me how Kreutzfeldt’s postulates pertain to healing,” Wilhemina was saying.
“Kreutzfeldt’s first postulate states that living matter, once dead, cannot be reanimated by magic.”
“What about Inferi?”
“They aren’t living. Inferi have no souls. It’s the enchanter’s life force that operates on them.”
“What about ghosts, then? They have souls, don’t they? Or are souls? Doesn’t the soul contain some sort of life force?”
“That’s part of Kreutzfeld’s third postualte, actually. He says that life force can exist only where there’s metabolism. Dumbledore says the Krebs cycle means that—”
“Whoa, there. You’re moving too fast for me. I don’t know anything about this Krebs cycle business.”
“Nevermind, it’s something we’ve talked about in our private sessions.”
“Ooh, Min … private sessions with Dumbledore. Next thing you know, he’ll be asking you to take his job when he becomes headmaster.”
“That won’t be for years yet. And you know I hate being called ‘Min’.”
Wilhelmina grinned at her. “You won’t call me “Will”, so why should I have to call you ‘Minerva’?”
“I just don’t see the point of having a name if no one is going to call you by it.”
“Easy for you to say. Your daft parents didn’t stick you with ‘Wilhelmina’.”
“‘Minerva’ is no picnic, believe me. Besides, I think ‘Wilhelmina’ is lovely.”
Wilhelmina looked at Minerva for a moment before saying softly, “Ok.”
Minerva blinked. “Ok what?”
“You can keep calling me ‘Wilhelmina’. It actually does sound kind of nice when you say it.”
Minerva smiled in spite of herself. “Just so long as you don’t call me— ”
“Min. Sorry, but to me, you’re ‘Min’. Can’t think of you as ‘Minerva’ now.”
“Why?”
“Dunno. I guess it’s because that's what everyone calls you when they want something from you.” Wilhemina’s voice dropped low in a bad imitation of Dumbldore. ‘Minerva, can you show Miss Grubbly-Plank around?’” Now the pureblood drawl of Gussie Bagnold: “‘ Minerva, can I borrow your notes on Gamp’s Law?’” Now Gordon Massie’s plaintive brogue: “Minerva, I cannae do ma prefect rounds taemorra. Can ye naw switch wi’ me?”
Minerva tried to stifle her laughter. “Ah, wheesht, you! That’s the worst Scottish accent I’ve ever heard.”
“That’s how he sounds to me. Your accent is much nicer, though. Min.”
“Aye, I know. I dina ken how you Sassenachs understand each other, even.”
This teasing remark earned Minerva the jab of Wilhelmina’s elbow to her side. Although the impact was blunted by the many layers of clothing Minerva had donned against the chill, it knocked her off balance, and the heel of her boot took the opportunity to slip on the ice, dumping her uncermoniously on her derrière.
Wilhelmina grabbed Minerva’s arm to help her up. “Sorry. Guess I don’t know my own strength.” She grinned, and pulled her wand. “Drying charm?”
Minerva turned around, and with a quick sicco from Wilhelmina, Minerva’s bum was enveloped in sudden warmth.
“Thanks. Did you add a warming charm?”
“Yup. You look cold.”
Minerva rubbed her arms briskly. “I don’t understand how you aren’t freezing.”
“I’m used to it, I guess. You spend too much time indoors, vicar’s daughter.”
“And you spend too much outside. That’s why your Potions marks aren’t so good.”
“Don’t remind me,” Wilhelmina groaned. “I’ll need at least an Exceeds Expectations if I want to work at the international dragon preserve.”
“You still want to go to Romania after we leave Hogwarts?”
“They have the only formal training programme in Europe.”
Minerva shivered again, and pulled her muffler up over her chin. She regretted bringing up their graduation. It made her melancholy in a way that embarrassed her. She should be excited about starting her adult life in the magical world—and she was—but the idea of leaving Hogwarts behind was bittersweet. It meant leaving the first place she’d felt powerful, the first place she’d had real friends. It meant leaving her mentor, and everything she’d grown to love about the wizarding world.
“Are you still thinking about magical law?” Wilhelmina asked.
“Mmm. I’d love to do further Transfiguration studies, but I’ll need to earn my keep.”
“You’d make a brilliant solicitor.”
“We’ll see.”

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @rngaredead 🫶
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
91 complete, 2 WIP (one of these is yet to be public)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
797,286
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Ted Lasso and The Mentalist
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Pillow Talk — Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon (The Mentalist)
To Make The World Less Noisy — Ted Lasso/Trent Crimm (Ted Lasso)
Please, Remember Me. — Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt (Ted Lasso)
All These Things That I’ve Done — Ted Lasso/Trent Crimm (Ted Lasso)
Squeeze Me Harder — Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt (Ted Lasso)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Usually yes! I love getting comments as it is a more tangible reminder that there are people reading. Plus most of the time they’re nice to read too.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I love writing angst but not too many of my fics have angsty endings. I like happy endings haha. I’m not sure if it has my angstiest ending - especially compared to some of my Jisbon fics - but earlier this year I wrote a Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt one-shot which probably applies (it seems like once again you’ve had to greet me with goodbye).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have happy endings even amongst the emotional hurt/comfort. I actually think ending a fic is one of the most difficult parts of the writing process but endings I can remember fondly in particular are ‘The Tea Shop’ (Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon), ‘Please, Remember Me.’ (Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt) and the conclusion to my ‘i know it’s just a number but you’re the eighth wonder’ series (Ted Lasso/Trent Crimm).
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really… until the series mentioned above. I had a couple of haters on that because I wrote Trent as trans.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Some of my fics include smut but I don’t find it easy to write so usually I either don’t include it or I keep it very vague. However, I have realised that two of my top five fics by kudos are 'E'.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nope. I personally don’t understand the love of crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Back in my Wattpad days I had a fic stolen and translated to German without my permission. Including the cover art.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
See above.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I have had some cool people beta my fics before.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I know I mainly write tedtrent now but I think jisbon will always be my ship.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My only public WIP is ‘Pillow Talk’ (Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon) but it’s a collection of one-shots so there really is no “finishing it”.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I’ve got better at characterisations. It is one my favourite compliments if I ever get it because I think it is so important to get that right, for the reader’s enjoyment. I’ve also improved at setting the scene as opposed to just jumping in with the story. Dialogue is definitely easier for me to write than this though.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am my own worst enemy. I will be writing and think ‘yeah this is pretty good’ but when it comes to proofing it I suddenly become full of self-doubt. I know I am not the best writer in the world, but it is a good outlet for me, so when I start to feel like my work is terrible, that hits me hard. It is why I rely so much on comments and knowing if people enjoyed reading or not. Just for some more motivation.
If there are too many characters, some tend to get lost or forgotten. I have especially found this when writing Ted Lasso fics because there are sooooo many characters in that show who I love but it just isn’t possible to regularly include them all in fics.
When I am writing, I write different sections of a chapter/one-shot and then try desperately to tie them together which doesn’t always flow well. I also then get annoyed at myself for leaving really unhelpful notes as reminders.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I have done this for a few lines in fics but I couldn’t do it confidently regularly. Relying on translations apps is a risk due to accuracy. I’ve sometimes written dialogue in Spanish for my The Mentalist fics, but never large bulks of text.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Sherlock - back in my Wattpad days.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Probably ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ but the energy on Twitter when I was writing/updated ‘Undercover With You’ and ‘A Blue-Eyed Surprise To Come Home To’ (both Patrick Jane/Teresa Lisbon) was unmatched.
(No user tags because I am not good at Tumblr - but thank you @rngaredead for thinking of me!!)

Hi.
I haven’t really used this blog much for personal, non-fandom stuff, but thought I’d share an update. CW: mental health and depression.
This past winter I hit the rock bottom what was, in hindsight, a major depressive episode that I’d been experiencing for years. I had no energy, no ability to connect wanting to do something with actually doing it. I was crying all the time and hating myself.
I had a job that I’d once loved—public defense—but that after twelve years had taken its toll. The traumas had started outweighing the triumphs. Between that, and becoming a caretaker for a disabled family member, and random brain chemistry, I’d been on a mostly downward spiral since before the pandemic started.
If I came across as upbeat, it’s because fandom was the one place I could still tap into playfulness and joy. I’d crack myself up online while walking around with a flat affect. There’s nothing wrong with using a hobby to cheer yourself up, but it was such a sharp contrast.
And then there was the doomscrolling. It’s just bad for my brain. The pornbot boondoggle drove this home because I was spending hours a day on here and feeling proportionately crazed. (Note to past self: yes you’re very clever, here’s a pat on the head, but two days of pornbots would’ve been just as funny as twelve.) By the time it ended I was falling apart. Something had to give. I changed my Tumblr password to a random key smash and logged out.
But fandom isn’t bad for mental health just because social media is. I am doing so, so, so much better now, and I credit a lot of it to this fandom. Quitting public defense was scary because my whole identity was bound up in being a public defender--but now I know I’m also a writer. My closest friends had previously been my work friends, and I didn’t know if those relationships would survive if I left--but I knew my fandom friendships would.
Fandom also helped more directly too, by connecting me with friends who all but literally held my hand while I cried and looked for a therapist. Who shared their experiences of depression and recovery and antidepressants. Who cheered on my job hunt, which I couldn’t share with IRL friends until I was ready to give notice. You guys know who you are and I love you.
(Also, shoutout the CO trilogy itself and especially AWTWB for convincing me that it's okay to feel overwhelmed. It would be too much for anyone.)
Between quitting my old job and starting an antidepressant, it’s felt like flipping a switch. I have energy that I thought I'd just lost as part of the aging process. The new job is occasionally interesting, never dramatic, and completely harmless. It feels vaguely useful but never essential. It feels getting forklift certified after being at war. I love it.
Anyhoo. I’ve been putting off coming back on Tumblr. Even though I’ve had countless genuine, loving interactions on here, I really don’t know if I can have a healthy relationship with the hellsite. I’m writing again and want to share my stuff and cheer you on, but moderation is not my strength. Maybe I’ll try some WIP tagging to see if that feels possible to do occasionally and not obsessively.
Social media is the worst, but you are the best. I’m bbbogwitch on discord—reach out any time. Especially if you’re struggling with depression or helping-profession burnout or caretaker blues. You’re not alone.

So I’ve seen a couple comments lately specifically associated with the ever-growing comment chains of @buggachat’s bakery enemies au where some fellow readers are claiming that a lot of us are hating on Marinette.
It’s not a lot of comments, but it’s enough that I wanted to say something. You don’t have to listen. That’s ok. You can scroll if you want to, but the thoughts are here if you wanted or needed them.
Here’s the thing:
When you write a realistic character, or adapt a character realistically from a tv show, there are going to be moments of pain and frustration on all sides. Yes, Marinette is allowed to feel her own pain and frustration, but We as an audience are Also allowed to have second-hand frustration based on her actions.
I’m allowed to like Marinette and acknowledge and validate her frustration while still Also Being Frustrated at her. That being said, I understand that We can see the whole story and She can’t. Even apart from that knowledge, I am allowed to have compassion for her and Still Disagree with the way that she handles things. That is not me being a Marinette salter or me hating on Marinette. That is me recognizing that this very human response of Marinette’s is placing Adrien — and herself — into unhealthy situations.
People aren’t good and bad all the time. You don’t have to love them all the time. And even if you Do still love them, you don’t have to agree with them.
I’m not trying to start a fight, but I wanted to put all of this out there because . . . I’ve read through the comments. And I haven’t really seen a great deal of people genuinely trashing Marinette. They’re just responding to the direct situation with their very-normal emotional reactions. Which is sort of part of the point, isn’t it?
And I’m sorry @buggachat . I know I tagged you. It’s mostly to give context to this post. I’m not trying to pull you into the discussion or force you to comment on it or pick a side. Please continue on with your beautiful life and enjoy torturing us every 24 hours. You’re doing great, sweetie. This post isn’t really for you unless you want it to be. I don’t know. You might not even agree with me. And that is your right as a human being.
To everyone who feels this Does apply to them, I just wanted to say, here are some general facts of life that the world continues to beat into us, whether we like it or not:
Good people can do terrible things. In fact, some of the worst things are Genuinely Awful to that degree because they were done by good people. Just look at Adrien’s situation. He’s seen how Marinette has So many friends who love her. He’s seen that she’s capable of being an absolutely wonderful person. To him it looks like she’s choosing to be a terrible person to him specifically. Real people go through this in the real world, too. When a good person does something horrible, it doesn’t change the fact that they’re still a good person to Someone out there — maybe to multiple someone’s. They’ve just chosen not to be a good person to You. Or chosen to be a Bad person to you. And that Hurts. And it’s Worth acknowledging and talking about. (This is the real tragedy of evil, in my opinion. It’s why children of abusive and negligent parents often struggle so deeply with the question of why they still feel a need to earn love from their parents and whether they should leave them behind.)
People are constantly experiencing growth and change. There’s something great called the Theory of Positive Disintegration that describes the process. It’s super cool. Look it up. It’s healthy to acknowledge that we all make varied choices as our worldviews change and as we experience new things. People we see as ‘bad’ don’t have to stay that way and likely aren’t what we expect. People we see as ‘good’ are not always strictly good. (Besides this, How many people do we call “Good” because of whom they decided to be evil to? Who gets to decide who the enemy is anyway?)
Literature is designed with complexity in mind. Stories are often made with fleshed out human beings. Sometimes stories are written Specifically to show us questionable behavior so we can see the world through a new lens and decide for ourselves whether we agree with that person. Just take a look at Restoration Drama if you have any doubts. Old white men debated for ages about whether or not their audiences were smart enough to notice questionable behavior in cases of, for instance, rape or cheating or manipulation. Did they ever ask the audience? Not really. But the point is that we Do sometimes get suckered into blindly supporting characters without really watching what they’re Doing. It doesn’t mean we’re not smart enough to notice or talk about it. The danger comes when we try to shut that conversation down by Never showing evil or Never acknowledging it when it’s there. —No one is perfect. So we have flaws. So what? That’s normal. It’s human. It’s normal to empathize with a character. It’s ok to openly express second-hand embarrassment or frustration for their actions. If you don’t want strangers on the internet to point out Marinette’s flaws, then maybe You shouldn’t be pointing out the flaws of strangers on the internet.
I’m not trying to attack anyone in particular. Or anyone at all. I just wanted to put some of this into perspective. Some of you making these comments might be joking! I can’t really read emotional subtext on the internet. Some of us are bad at reading it in real life, too. This is just me putting some thoughts out there to remind you that we all have complex emotional lives, and that discussing a person’s flaws isn’t the same thing as hating them or rejecting them or making them out to be the enemy. If no one ever talked about the bad parts of good people, we wouldn’t have compelling stories.

20 Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ ꜰᴏʀ ꜰɪᴄ ᴡʀɪᴛᴇʀꜱ
Thanks for the tag @mycupofrum !!!
Ao3 Username: graceless_lady
1. How many works do you have on A03?
21 fics.
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?
353k
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Harry Potter
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
the ghost of you, it keeps me awake (Sirius/James, M, 73k, WIP)
and a love that I dreamt of came to me at my worst (Sirius/James, E, 90k, complete)
In Plain Sight (Sirius/James, E, 30k, complete)
The Wedding Date (Sirius/James, M, 25k, complete)
you'll see me in hindsight (Sirius/James, E, 35k, complete)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! Sometimes it takes me a while to carve out time to give a proper response (esp if pesky RL gets in the way) but I always plan to respond even if it takes me a while. It always, always makes my day to see a comment pop into my inbox and I reread comments a lot to keep up motivation when writing so its the least I can do <3
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably tell me you love me, come back and haunt me (S/J, 23K, complete) although its more of a bittersweet ending rather than an all out angsty one. I love laying on the angst when working through a fic but always aim to give something hopeful at the end (Sirius and James had enough tragedy in canon imo haha)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I'm a HEA girlie, so like most of them.
Maybe you'll see me in hindsight because the happy ending was hard won and I lingered in the happy ending for longer than usual.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Rarely, luckily.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sometimes. Usually its pretty vanilla in terms of kink.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No. Well, I did when I was a teen, but those were pretty terrible so luckily there is nothing of that published :P
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I dont think so (luckily)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, I have been lucky enough to have four translated (or partially translated) from English to 中文-普通话 國語 (links below)!! I am always so flattered when someone offers to translate my fics.
【授翻】In Plain Sight 昭彰 by hsothe
【授翻】在人生低谷中坠入爱河 by MoAhx
【鹿犬】令我无眠的你的幽灵 by amnesiaby
【授权翻译】tell me you love me, come back and haunt me by foxleaaap
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. I'm quite insecure/secretive about my writing before I am ready to publish so I don't know how well my process would work with that... but it would be cool.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Sirius/James always... my longest running ship by far. I always circle back to them.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I want you to ruin my life. I ended up anon-ing it because I felt so guilty every time I saw it on my works page. But I just lost the thread of that plot completely and had a few changes in opinions about how I think Sirius in Slytherin would be, which clashed with the story already written. But I'll never so say never, I've started to have some thoughts about it again, so maybe I'll get back into it...
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hmmmm um, the beginning of fic? Idk I feel like writing the set up for fics is at least the easiest part for me. I love thinking up what if scenarios and running from there.
Dialogue and angst & hurt/comfort also comes must easier to me than like action scenes and fluff.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Where to start lol, the most frustrating ones for me I think are plotting and writing a satisfying ending/climax.
I also struggle a bit writing clever characters as smart as they should be (hamstrung by my own intelligence lol).
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Not sure if my opinion really counts here as someone whose only fluent in english, but I like to see it if its done respectfully and makes sense in the story.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
and a love that I dreamt of came to me at my worst
This was my pet project over a really special time in my life and I think I will always have a massive soft spot for it (and find myself drawn to rereading parts of it often). I also managed to throw in a lot of tropes I personally really enjoy into this one (mid aged Sirius & James, midlife crisis James, competent Sirius (and James), mutual pining, co-dependency, jealous James, Harry having loving parents/adults in his life, etc).
This was so fun! Tagging: @jamesunderwater @bullets-from-another-dimension @lovelymasks @forestdeath1

THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT MY FELLOW WRITERS
Thank you for the tag @lewdisescariot
I tag: @angelosearch @beaubambabey and anyone who wants to participate!
Last book I read: “Merrick" by Anne Rice (i have not finished, it is a slog, I'll finish it eventually), a book chronicling the works of Boticelli, "Go Ask Ogre," I'm in the process of reading "The Rebel" by Camus for the fifth time.
Greatest literary inspirations: John Keats, my former spoken word mentor and activist Jared Paul, William Blake, Anne Rice, Jose Saramago, Albert Camus, insert any 18th and 19th century gothic horror writer here.
Things in my current fandom I want to read but I don't want to write: mutually toxic bloodweave, disgustingly toxic bloodweave, mutually obsessive and manipulative toxic bloodweave, i need them to be their worst selves, i need them to fuck nasty, i need them to take advantage of each other (not sexually but also sexually with consent or begrudging consent to get what they want DO YOU SEE THE VISION)
Things in my current fandoms I want to write but I think nobody would be interested in them but me: Let's focus on bg3. Disgustingly violent, manipulative psychosexual vellioth/cazador. Utter monsters. Twisted power hungry fiends destroying each other where love is too kind, obsession is too shallow, hatred is too soft. Modern aus of them being awful, wretched creatures. Canon compliant awful, wretched creatures. Dead dove do not eat, would get me ostracized, self indulgent horrors.
Modern aus of Astarion being a mess and a menace in every way possible. Everything is wrong with him. He lives with Shadowheart, I need them to be perpetual roommates, she's the only thing keeping him from complete self destruction. His coping skills are atrocious, he cannot be fixed, no one knows how he isn't dead yet. Gale is sometimes moderately better if he's there, they cannot fix each other, there is no magic happy ending. Nobody dies, but they probably should. It doesn't necessarily start as a dumpster fire. It may creep up on you until it's too late and the sunk-cost fallacy has set in. Surprise, it's trauma! It's not pretty trauma! It's not "love can save you" trauma!
Also: long, lyrical canon compliant (mostly) pieces of everyone's suffering, of redemption and damnation, of character studies, of heartwrenching beauty in the tragic fates they cannot escape - they never wanted, leitmotifs in phrasing, a chorus of chosen words, the agony of everything, the love they seek, endless run on sentences, unyielding prose, allegories, their characters boiled down to fever dreams. Symbolic, headspinning, pitiful, reverent, songs that aren't songs, poems that aren't poems, stories that tell themselves yet say nothing without scrutiny, you will leave in awe and madness and hell and hope. Slant rhymes everywhere. It's accidental, it's intentional, it's everything everywhere nowhere at once, it's a spiral, it's linear until it isn't. GOD.
You can recognise my writing by: Please see the above third paragraph.
My most controversial take (current fandom): This answer from my dear friend carries over - "You aren’t better than anyone for hating their favorite character or how they love them. Just let people live."
90% of the Astarion headcanons I see convince me we have not played the same game. He does not become a better person, he is better to you. Ascending him does not remove my sense of irl morality. You're thinking of Wyll, everything you project onto him is a part of Wyll. Astarion is an awful person, he's a mess, he's full of bitter hatred, he needs to kill, he wants everyone to suffer, I love him. Cowards.
Cazador is SO FUCKABLE. He's a horrid, monstrous, contemptible, vile, wicked creature and while i cannot fix him, I can indulge in hedonistic blood filled psychosexual madness and honestly that's close enough for me. Larian, please let him rail me. Cazador romance WHEN. Self preservation? WRONG. Dancing with death for a hellsent vampire.
Top three favourite tropes: "i hate you, i need you." They are suffering, but they are suffering together. "You are so far past saving, yet i will not leave." Bonus: psychosexual obsession, have you figured this out yet, have i made it clear, are we on the same page. DO YOU SEE THE VISION.
What’s your current writing mood (10 – super motivated and churning out words like crazy, 0 – in a complete rut): it's 10, but chronic fatigue/where do i start with this and how does it end, it has to end eventually, I GUESS.
We're working on it.

hi! I'm not sure if this is an odd question but do you ever experience anxiety when it comes to sharing your fics and if so, how do you deal with that? I used to enjoy writing but somehow I got stuck in a loop where I avoid sharing my works out of fear that others will judge what I create but this also keeps me from improving at all. I know content creators are generally told to not worry about making mistakes and that it's also part or the process but I find this is easier said than done.. (this makes me respect any kind of artist so much more tbh. like, I think the worst kind of pressure is the one you put onto yourself and idk how others deal with that?) anyways, thanks for reading, I'm a big fan of yours 🙏🥰
Not an odd question at all!
When I first started writing fic as an adult, I had horrible anxiety about it. I had written maybe 10 "fics" as a teenager, but they were all really short or something stupid I had written with friends. So when I dipped my toes back into fanfic in my 20s, I had to sit in complete isolation in my bedroom, with the door closed, with headphones in. Even though my wife knew I was writing fic, I absolutely could not have her in the room with me. When I first started, I was so mortified that I'd just write G and L if I was handwriting in a notebook, just in case someone inexplicably saw it.
For me, what helped me get over that escalating anxiety and actually post the damn thing was twofold:
I joined an event, where I had assigned prompts and an assigned posting date, so I felt a sense of external pressure and obligation to post.
I had been rolling Hanakotoba around in my head for literal years, and I really did want people to read it.
I do understand the feeling of vulnerability with taking the text and putting it out there for others. There's often, for me at least (still to this day!), a feeling of apprehension about people being able to know things about me based on my work. I overcome this generally by writing for events, prompts, and other people. It both ups the pressure to actually produce and post something and feels a bit less vulnerable: no, see, I wrote this for something; this isn't just my personal id on display.
So if your issue is the mortifying idea of being known, we're lucky to live in a time where you have a few options:
You can post your fic to the Anonymous collection on Ao3, so that no one ties it to you specifically.
You can pick a username that doesn't link to any of your other usernames and not link your socials to the fic, leaving it fully pseudonymous.
You can turn off comments, screen comments, or disallow comments from guest users on Ao3.
You can post the fic and orphan it (though this removes any control you have over the fic like being able to edit or delete it).
You can post the fic with minimal tags (just 'Creator Chose Not to Warn' and a fandom), to reduce the likelihood of it being seen.
Add a disclaimer (even one of those silly tags like 'No beta; we die like Neji') or something in the author's note to let potential readers know how you're feeling. Something like: "Hey, this is my first time posting a fic, so I'm really nervous! Encouragement is very welcome." (The one thing I wouldn't suggest doing is putting something like, "I know this sucks!" - that does genuinely turn people off from reading.)
If your concern is the publication of judgment, I don't think you have much to worry about there. Fandom has largely moved away from a concrit culture (where public posting was automatically assumed to be an invitation for people to critique your work, sometimes harshly). I rarely see people leave critical comments on fic. That's not to say I've never seen them, but they're easy enough to delete and just not respond to.
On the other hand, if you're just worried about internet randos thinking things about you in their head but not saying anything ... I hate to not have very good advice about this, but it really is just something you have to let go. Just like you can't control what anyone thinks of you in real life, you can't control how they think of you or your work online. Your work isn't gonna be for everyone, and that's okay! What matters is that you like it or want to share it.
One last thing: There's no shame in writing for yourself and not publishing. You don't need to publish to improve. If improvement is your goal, check out writing advice blogs, pick apart the stories you like to find the things that make them work for you, and read voraciously. It's practice that leads to improvement, not publication.
Sorry for the essay. I hope this is helpful!!

Writer Q&A tag game
Thank you so much @vintagecivet for the tag! I took my time coming around to this, but I've been a bit inactive and I wanted to this justice and give it the attention it deserves.
What motivates you to write? A lot of things! I get motivated when I remember a piece I wrote ages ago, I get very motivated by reading! Also the daydreams. The daydreams keep yelling to be put on paper so. Yeah. The fact that writing has been the one constant in my life that I've never grown tired of, afraid of, or demotivated by, even during my worst writers' blocks, definitely contributes. I give back to writing what writing gives to me.
A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them) I'll do both! For my own piece - I'm extremely proud of my prose poetry collection and my first and currently only completed piece of work, "The Little Flower Shop". He himself smells of burnt wood from the north, with hints of the southern spices and western perfumes. He enthralls me with stories of ships that sailed past the edge of the world and days spent in the wilderness. - Querencia, The Little Flower Shop For a work I love: I want you to know one thing. That in the heart and thick of it, deep in the trenches of experience and wonder and ancestry and the darkest dark and brightest light, you are wildly, primally, ravishingly magical. - Victoria Erikson (Edge of Wonders)
Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like? Maya Mahato! She is my OC for the one fantasy WIP that I have, set in a small Indian village nestled in the Himalayas. She is an charming young woman, with her eyes wide open and always looking for the magic of her little village in the big cities she goes to. She has a thirst for learning, often overworks herself, and prefers reading over getting an adequate amount of sleep. She hates tea with milk, but herbal and green teas are okay. Coffee is her new elixir of choice, something she discovered only after leaving home for college. She is the apple of her grandfather's eye, and often scandalizes her grandmother with the skills she decides to pursue. She pretends to hate dancing, but that's only because she never had anyone to teach her. And her favourite time of the day is dawn, right before the sun rises.
What process of writing do you enjoy the most? The daydreaming stage? I love the ideation of stories. That's the time when I don't have to worry about loopholes, family relations, geographies or literally anything that requires brain power. I can just happily think up whatever I want to - fitting them all together is a problem for future me.
What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay) Ideation? XD I think I'm really good at writing banter and dialogues. Something about people talking has always clicked easier for me than figuring out how the think and act.
What is something in the writeblr community that is the most enjoyable? How nice people are. (At least the corner I'm in?) They're always up for a chat, interacting with posts, cheering you on and sending fun games my way to break up the monotonity of life. It's lovely to be a part of.
A writing device/tool you use that helps you write? A writer's notebook. It's something I learnt about a couple of years ago and I'm absolutely in love with it. It's what gets me out of my deepest trenches of writers' block. It's a notebook that has EVERYTHING. Half-cooked ideas, random dialogues that sound cool, a quick sketch of an OC or the map of a city, small scenes - anything and everything that I create or think of, all in one place.
A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc.) My towns. I put too much time into them, but they're very fun to create, and I end up with elaborate maps and very pretty looking places (in thought, I haven't tried recreating them on paper or screen)
What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch? Breathe. Leave your desk. Go get food, water, take a walk, listen to music. You need breaks, and so does your muse. It doesn't make you any less of a writer. Come back when you're ready.
Tag some people whose works you love/have been your biggest supporters Ayeeeee. No pressure tagging people: @yesireadbooks @nattheauthor @catfail @scumpleforeskin @aether-wasteland-s @midnightsandmadness @holdmyteaplease

How do you become of the “big” writers in a fandom like TUA? It doesn’t seem like writing a lot gets me anywhere even if I do enjoy it
Luck. It's dumb luck.
My first advice is to not chase trying to be a "big writer". It genuinely is dumb luck. Focus on enjoying writing, enjoying/building the community around your fics/fandom, and try to not let yourself focus too much on those interaction stats. I know this is hard - we are all so addicted to that rush of dopamine and validation kudos and reblogs and comments give. We are all chasing it, it's part of why we share anything. But if you let that become your focus it sucks all the joy out of writing and then you have to take a break until you can get your head in a healthier spot about it and enjoy it again.
So, that disclaimer said, there are some things I think... help push luck in your favor, things I did to try and push community that translated to engagement. It's also about getting the right eyes on your fic, getting that one person to see and share it that starts a domino effect of more people seeing it (and maybe sharing it).
First is technical stuff. Get good at titles and summaries, summaries especially. You need people to want to click on your fic and to see what its about. I don't think I've talked about summaries before, and I'm not going to do it here outside of saying 1) Yes, I know they suck to write they're the worst and 2) that the goal of a summary is to let the reader know what to expect and to to pique their interest. It's the blurb on the back of the book when you're browsing, it's your shot to get someone to open it and give your story a try. Next, it's good you enjoy the writing process (that is the whole point!) because being technically good also helps keep people reading once they've opened your fic. People will read things they aren't necessarily interested in if it's well-written, and they will bail on things they like if it's too hard to read. But keep in mind that just being good isn't going to make you blow up in a fandom - some of the best fics I've read have had but a handful of kudos and comments on them.
The second is the social stuff. You have to find your crowd, your corner of the fandom, the people who will enjoy your fics. If you write Five but only Klaus stans are seeing your works, you're not going to go very far. Get good at tagging - on AO3 and when promo-ing on Tumblr. DO NOT take this as "put as many tags as possible so more people see it!". That's spam. Everyone hates spam. Don't be that person. Accurately tag your stuff so people know what your fic is. If it's what they want to read, they'll click on it - those are the people you are targeting, not every person in the fandom. Get comfortable self-reblogging posts when you post/update fics. If you're up for it, curate a community responding to comments on fics and encouraging asks on Tumblr (be careful with that and be ready to shut the inbox if people start being fucking weird - your mental health comes first).
After saying all that, my biggest point is to repeat that that "hitting it big" is dumb luck and fandom is fickle. TUA is in a lull between seasons right now and we all know the current struggle of artists and writers getting people to reblog things/interact further than a like/kudo. You're going to burn yourself out and stop having fun if your focus is on finding "fame" within the fandom, especially right now. I think the above stuff helped things take off for me, but I've been building my community for two years now and it was still luck at the end of the day. As you practice your writing skills, add to your library of fics, build your own community, things will get bigger organically.

Crumpled Up Pages: Old Captain Underpants WIPs #1-4
The First Epic Movie turned 5 earlier this month, and I dug through some old folders to write this post about it. In the process, I found some fanfic ideas I’d written down, fleshed out a little, and then forgot about for years. So while hyperfixation still has its grip on me (and while there’s still some extra activity in the tag), I figured I’d finally set these dust bunnies free!
A few ground rules before this deep dive descends:
When I say “fleshed out a little,” I’m putting major emphasis on the “little.” Some of these docs contain detailed notes and snippets of dialogue, but others are just a title and a vague one-sentence summary. I’ll be transparent about what each one contains, and try to fill in the bigger gaps by memory.
If you were around for the CU Fandom Renaissance of 2017, some of the ideas here might sound familiar, ‘cus I refitted them into fanart and headcanon dumps that actually got posted. I’ll link to those where they’re relevant.
These were all written and abandoned months before a CU show was even announced, so there’s no Epic Tales content or characters in here. Sorry if you were expecting any!
I’m splitting this into two posts cus it was getting and taking too long. This first part will cover the 4 simplest, fluffiest WIPs; the second one will tackle the 6 sadder, more character-heavy ones. And with character-heavy stuff comes spoilers for the movie and books — especially the books. If you haven’t read all 12, you’re probably wondering why anyone would care about Captain Underpants spoilers. First off, your loss; second off, BEWARE!
And finally: if you write fanfiction and feel inspired to use any of these ideas? You have my permission to do so! Seriously, steal anything here and put your own spin on them! I don’t care much for credit, but if these old things help fuel someone else’s creativity, I’d love to know!
That’s enough prep, probably. Plug your nose!
WIP #1: Inspiration
It can come from even the worst of places. ...And people, in this case. [Book!Verse, pre-Book 1.]
This document contains a long script, but no context; I can remember the gist though, so I’ll insert that in-between dialogue. Basically it’s third grade, and George and Harold are in detention again. They cheat to fill up the blackboards like usual, but they’re too bummed out to start a comic afterwards. George sits around stewing in his frustration while Harold angry-scribbles Mr. Krupp yelling.
“...Why does he hate us so much, George?”
“I dunno. Maybe ‘cause he can’t handle our coolness? …Nice drawing, by the way.”
“Thanks. …It’s making me sad just lookin’ at it, though.”
“Yeah, me too. …I wonder what he’d look like if he smiled.”
“...?”
“...I mean, like, a real smile, not an I’ve-got-you-now smile.”
“Oh. Hmmm…”
Harold erases Krupp’s wide yelling mouth and draws a goofy smile in its place.
“Aw, man, now it’s just creepy.”
“Darn.”
The boys keep editing the drawing until it stops being creepy and starts being funny. George erases Krupp’s toupee, remembering the time they stole it and the teachers couldn’t take him seriously without it. Harold draws one of his office curtains around his neck, adding more color and kinetic energy. Soon they’re struggling not to laugh out loud, but they manage to calm down… until George gets an idea that takes the sketch from great to legendary.
“Waitwaitwaitwaitwait. Remember what my pop said about Superman yesterday?”
“That he looks like… DUDE. Duuuuuude.”
Harold redraws Krupp’s entire lower body so he’s only wearing underwear. Then with a flourish, he adds the finishing touch – two dots on his chest – and they both lose it. All their laughter finally prompts the real Krupp to check on them, and predictably, he rips up the drawing. It upsets the boys in the moment, but they’re still in much higher spirits than before, and brainstorm a new comic about their new creation as they skateboard home.
“You think we should make his origin issue first?”
“Naw, let’s get right to the action! His outfit’s already the perfect hook – finally, a superhero who actually does fly around in his underwear!”
“Yeah, and he could fight with Wedgie Power!”
God, rediscovering this gave me the most uncontrollable grin. From the date it was last opened, I think this fic was meant for September 1st, 2017 (Book 1’s 20th anniversary), and I gave up after missing it. For shame, 2017!me. For shame.
——————————————————————————————————
WIP #2: Untitled Boomer One-shot
Harold won’t admit it, but he’d slay a dragon for his little sister. [Book!Verse but only cus this scene was deleted and is thus dubiously canon]
This doc’s nothing but notes, so I’ll paraphrase the plot: Ms. Hutchins takes Heidi and Harold to Boomer the Purple Dragon: Live! Harold was gonna stay with the Beards but they cancelled last minute, and he’s grumpy about it the whole time. When the show ends, kids gather in front of the stage to meet Boomer; Ms. Hutchins suddenly gets an important call, and makes Harold walk Heidi up there.
But the dragon’s mascot suit is big up close for a 6-year-old, and Heidi gets so scared she starts crying. She’s rooted to the spot and waves her arms in panic, but “Boomer” thinks she wants a hug and waddles closer and closer... until Harold kicks him in the groin. Their mom understandably grounds him for it, but Heidi is grateful and calls him her hero :)
This one was based on the classic “kid hits mascot in the weak spot” genre of AFV, but also on an early memory of mine! My sister and I loved Arthur as babies, so our mom took us to see this thing. The characters suddenly being real (and huge) was so upsetting that we scream-cried until she took us home early. (Speaking of Arthur, it’s a shame Heidi’s never really done anything in canon, I can see her having big DW energy.)
——————————————————————————————————
WIP #3: When Worlds Collide
It was less “love at first sight” and more “love at first squawk.” [Book!Verse, Book 7.]
A quick refresher: George told Harold to take Crackers back to dinosaur times, but he left her in the treehouse with Sulu instead. Later in the book, they’re shown snuggling in their sleep 🥺🥺 Anyway, this fic was about what they got up to in between! It’s actually the most complete of the lot, but only because it’s so short and simple.
It opens with Harold introducing them to each other, leaving out some treats for them (hamster food for Sulu, crackers for Crackers), then telling them to play nice until he comes back. They do not. Crackers pulls a Thunderclap the moment Harold leaves, Sulu karate-chops her throat until she spits him out, and they wreck half the treehouse in the ensuing chase.
Eventually they settle for standing in opposite corners and hissing at each other. Then Sulu… *squints* …records Crackers’ hisses with his bionic ears and plays them back so they can communicate? …Yeah, okay, why not. The outline ends after this sudden development; I’m guessing they talk things out and start to catch feels, before settling in to sleep. Anyway here’s the few sentences I actually wrote out:
Harold opened the door, Sulu got on the floor, and in walked the curious dinosaur.
[…] As predator and prey faced off, a little boy and his mother happened to be walking down Vine Street. “Mommy,” said the little boy, “I can hear a bionic hamster and a pterodactyl fighting in that treehouse!”
“Oh, please,” his mother scoffed. “How do you even know what that would sound like?”
The boy considered pointing out the CHOMPs, SQUEAKs, and SQUAAAWKs emanating from the tree in big blocky letters, but decided it wasn’t quite worth the trouble.
The doc ends with a reminder to not refer to Crackers with any pronouns until the two pets can understand each other. Also I was gonna title this after a Tony Orlando and Dawn song as foreshadowing, but I couldn’t choose one, so instead I went with this Spongebob song lol.
——————————————————————————————————
WIP #4: Untitled Tommy One-shot
The school’s been near bully-free ever since Treehouse Comix Inc. was formed. Tommy reflects on this from the safety of his locker. [Movie!Verse with a hint of Book 9. CW: discussion of bullying.]
A Kid I Never Named knocks on Tommy’s locker and offers to trade Pilkeymon. They have to be sneaky, because it’s the 90′s and they have to slip a Link Cable through the locker vents without being spotted.
As they trade, the other kid asks Tommy why he hides all the time. He explains that it’s a habit from when Kipper Krupp terrorized the halls. But Kipper left four years ago, and the legend of Wedgie Magee has kept other bullies at bay ever since; the other kid points this out and asks why he still hides. This led into “a somber discussion on adverse school experiences and the long-lasting coping mechanisms they cause” (exact words from the doc). Unfortunately 2017!me never wrote any dialogue, and I’m mad at her for that.
Trivia drop! I used the Pilkeymon joke a few times at @treehouseblogsinc, but it’s way older than that, and also not mine: Pilkey.com used to have a coloring game named Pilkeymon’s Paintbox. It even had art of Dav’s old spiky-haired avatar with Pikachu ears! There’s no trace of it on the Internet anymore, but I swear I’m not making this up.
I left a note here to add that Tommy has glow-in-the-dark stickers in his locker, which ended up in this headcanon dump. There’s also a list of last names I came up with for him but never chose between: Chambers, Lakatos (which I shared once here), and Lockenspiel. Right now I’m leaning towards the last one, it rolls nicely off the tongue.
——————————————————————————————————
That’s it for now! Not gonna lie, I’m still nervous about posting the other 6 WIPs. Most of them deal with Book 12, and all the tough subjects that that entails. But hey, I made this bed, and by God am I gonna lie in it. Thanks for reading so far!

hi! tumblr newbie here just discovered kp and i'm kinda trying to see who to follow because the tag gets crazy and i want my dash free of all that, thoughts on vegas? thoughts on their first sex scene? was it r*pe for you? thoughts on kinn? tnks, xlaurax
Hi!
Wow that’s a lot of questions, I’ll try to answer them though you really made me have to expose my moral conflict a lot here haha. Anyways here’s my first opinions on:
Vegas
I love his writing and I think he has the potential to be great. His book version is very complicated how I feel about him in that because I completely adore his growth and storyline/arc and how he grows and changes but I also find him very toxic and I disliked the first parts of his arc with Pete because it was a bit too much and I haven’t seen fully yet what changed between them. But I am someone who normally loves morally grey characters so I’m not surprised that I’m conflicted with my love for story and development vs morality and if he deserved the happiness and love of Pete later. On show Vegas I feel like the writers know what they’re doing they are going to humanise him so much more like they’re doing to Kinn, and they’re going to make his issues exposed more and on the surface and they’ll give him and Pete more understanding to how they get to where they are at the end of the novel. Also with the show I’m shallow what can I say Bible is perfectly casted as him, seductive, and too much not to love, he’s beautiful but dangerous but because there’s a face to Vegas in the form of Bible I can’t help but love and want him to be better and developed more. My favourite version of Vegas so far in the novel is when he’s with Porsche like I said there’s something so wicked and complicated in the way he develops during that time it’s confusing it’s conflicting but it’s also dimensional and I squeal each time I see it come to fruition. I think that Vegas will be shown again once I see him at the end of his arc. But I haven’t yet seen that version of him where I’m at with him and Pete. Though Pete suffers because Vegas needs someone who can love the monster he is, again a monster can love, be good and change but it’s not an easy path to finding that out. Pete gets to see him at his worst and still decides to choose him despite it all. (How right that is psychologically can be a debate but it’s still important to notice)
On consent
Yes i do see it as R*pe but it’s more complicated than what people who just want to cancel the show or purity warriors see it as. Kinn was fully sober and gave into his urges and slept with Porsche when he wasn’t of sound mind, when there was no consent, and Porsche goes through that trauma in episode 5 because it was assault. However it’s blurry and confusing. It’s not as simple as that. Because Porsche feels taken advantage of but still thinks positively about those moments and feels distraught he likes and was happy during those moments. It’s a tricky one, but I’m not goanna sugar coat it and say it wasn’t assault but I’m also not goanna say Porsche was mad about it when he woke up , because he wasn’t he was afraid of how he got there :the drugging not the outcome, he was upset and triggered after Kinn changed and left him to process it all on his own, Kinns change made him feel taken advantage of and the tying of his hands triggered him during the punishment reminding him of when it was tied when Vegas was on top of him, he started to spiral into the emotions of both wanting his aggressor and feeling used and abandoned. Though I see it as assault I’m not disgusted or frightened by it, I’m happy with how it’s being handled so far, and I don’t hate Kinn or think he’s a monster for it either. Because Porsche doesn’t. In real life it would be more damaging it would be a different story but I knew what I was getting into in this show.
Kinn
He’s my little meow meow I guess. He’s heavily treated as such an awful person by the fandom at times it makes me sad, because it’s clear there’s so much he’s been through, so much pain and trauma he himself like all the other characters were made from, so much pressure on him to be the monster people keep thinking he is. Kinn’s not a monster though his truth is that he cares he may be a brat but it comes with his job description, he’s rich and wealthy and forced to be in a position of power to protect all dear to him. He’s a protector, a dragon forced to attack so no one comes and takes away his shelter and wealth and safety. That’s what Kinn is, below that he’s caring, he’s soft, and whiny, and he’s a mess when it comes to love. He’s a hopeless romantic he believes in love and he gives into it openly and that’s his downfall or was his downfall he can’t be that with the role he has to take, with the environment he has to adapt to, he has to break to fit in and he has to break others to gain control. His focus is on his responsibilities, on his family and on his freedom to love, he tainted it and dissociated from the matters of the heart when it broke now he tries to enjoy his freedom with pleasure and drinking. He drowns himself in that so much he doesn’t know he’s still hurting, scarred and torn. And he lacks trust to every body because of it, all Kinn wants is a refuge to stay in and someone who can be by his side who he can trust and rely on, someone who can be his forever, his companion that’s all this messy hopeless romantic wants and he can’t have that because he’s the heir to danger and betrayal there’s no place for that with him. When Porsche arrives it becomes different, it’s uncontrollable and it’s fate so it pushes him and tests him and forces him to stop running and hiding and face his scars and overcome them. So yeah I love Kinn, I adore his messiness and chaos I feel his hurt and I understand his pressure and pain. I feel as suffocated watching him try to escape the chains he’s in. But it’s not easy it’s not easy for any of these characters and that’s where it hurts.
Thanks anon. Hope this answers some of your questions, feel free to send me more if you want and you’re still looking for more content about KP. I’m free to always listen to opinions and discuss the show ❤️

Personal Preference
Thundertober/Inktober Day 30: Infirmary
The infirmary on Tracy Island beat the hospital any day.
Set during S3E13 - SOS Part 2
Continuity: TAG
Tagging: @dragonoffantasyandreality @thundergeek59 @janetm74 @katblu42 @liseylou @amistrio @uniwolfcorn (Please ask if you would like to be alerted when I update or write new stories)
Prompt list
------
Gordon hated hospitals. The stench of sickness always seemed to linger even when he left, and those gowns were the literal worst. At least, those were the reasons he gave to anyone other than his closest friends and family. In truth? It always brought back memories of the worst time in his life. The hydrofoil crash, and the lengthy stay in the hospital that followed it...
He must’ve only been in that room for four months, but to him, it felt like an eternity. He’d always been active, and now he had to stay still for an extended period of time? Honestly, he would’ve rather died.
It didn’t exactly help that eventually, his family had their own lives to get back to. There was a point in his stay that they couldn’t come to visit as often as they used to, and he got that, he really did, but he missed them every minute of every day.
When he finally got out, he still couldn’t do anything. He was confined to a wheelchair for the rest of the healing process, but at least he got to be with his family…
He preferred the infirmary on the Island a lot better. As much as it was the same as the hospital, it was also different. It was so much more comforting to know he was home than surrounded by strangers, both staff and other patients.
All those thoughts, and more, ran through his head as a damaged Thunderbird Four, brutally attacked without mercy by the Chaos Crew, sank to the bottom of the ocean. He knew there was an equal chance of being put in either a hospital or the infirmary. There was no way he was coming out of this mess in one piece. But hopefully, his family would pay attention to his personal preference…
