The person Jason has the hardest time warming up to when he’s in the process of assimilating into the family again, is Dick.
Dick hated him when Jason was a kid. And with all that hatred, Dick reminded Jason of Willis. Sure Dick never laid a hand on him like Willis did, but he sure looked like he wanted to.
The glares of hatred that Jason was on the receiving ends of sent Jason spiraling into a PTSD attack more than once. Dick’s glares we’re always filled with so much more vitriol than Willis’ were. The thing that terrified Jason most about Dick’s glares was that Dick did them when he was sober, unlike Willis.
Dick also sounded like Willis, with his heavy angry footsteps stomping all over the manor, just like Willis’ sounded around the apartment. Dick would throw things against walls, break doors and chairs, rip cabinet doors right off their hinges, something that Willis wasn’t even able to do. Willis would hit and throw things, but he never broke them, they were too poor for that, even Willis realized that.
And the shouting. Dick never got far when it came to shouting at Jason, Alfred or Bruce would always shut that shit down on site. Physically dragging Dick away from him so he wouldn’t say something triggering to Jason. But watching a nearly grown man, practically feral with anger, looking like he wants to kill you, be dragged away from you by your older family members wasn’t a calming sight either. And the sound of Bruce and Dick shouting from behind closed doors was a staple noise during Jason’s time in the manor, just like Willis’ yelling was in his time at the apartment.
Sure Dick’s anger was different than Willis’ anger. Dick’s anger was a righteous fury that was big and explosive like a munitions shed on fire. Willis’ anger was solid and dark, festering and painful like acid forced in your mouth. But that didn’t mean that Dick wasn’t scary. That all of Dick’s traits that he unknowingly shared with Willis didn’t unsettle and haunt Jason.
Dick was never kind to Jason while in the manor. So seeing Dick after Jason’s death, and seeing him filled with joy, looking so soft compared to what Jason knew him as. It was a shock. Of course Jason knew that people can change, just look at him pre and post death. But to see Dick smile at Tim, smile at Robin was like a cold water gut wrenching feeling in his stomach. It was weird. It was unlike the Dick he knew in every way. And yet there Dick was looking after Tim and Damian as a big brother should, when that was all Jason ever wanted from Dick when he was a child. To see Dick give that to Tim and Damian so freely when it was withheld so viciously from Jason, made Jason want to cry. Cry at how unfair it was. Scream to know what had made Dick have such a drastic change of heart? Did Jason really have to die for Dick to want a brother? Did Jason have to die for Dick to see that how he treated Jason was wrong? Did Jason have to die for Dick to realize that he should never treat a child that way? Did Jason have to die for him to be worthy of Dick’s love?
Did Jason have to be a martyr for his younger brothers?
Did Jason have to pretend that Dick’s torment over him just, never happened?
How do you go about mending such a Brocken relationship? A relationship that was barely even there to begin with.
Does Dick even feel sorry for what he did to Jason? Does Dick even realize what he did to Jason?
Will Dick and Jason ever be able to be brothers like this? After all this time, after all the violence?
Would Jason even be able to forgive Dick?
Would Jason be ready to confront that fact that he already has. Because if forgiving Dick, and all the yelling, and the threatening, all the screaming, all the breaking got Dick to smile at him like that, like a brother, like family. Then, it would be worth it.
Wouldn’t it?

I am obsessed with the idea of Dick Grayson, recently become Nightwing, finding out about Jason being Robin and wanting to be angry at him but then Jason is a ball of sunshine and it melts Dick’s icy anger out before he even says a word.
Like imagine him going to complain about it to the Titians!
Wally: so how was meeting the new kid?
Dick(annoyed): it was horrible! He’s so precious!!
Roy: is that juxtaposition?
Dick: how am I meant to be angry at him for taking my place… when he goes and says “Robin is Magic”! And now what?! Am I meant to say that little boy doesn’t deserve that magic?! That little ball of sunshine that could probably power superman better than our sun does!? He deserves it!
Donna: so you’re still annoyed because?
Roy: he’s angry that he can’t be angry.

Nightwing AU:
Some new hero, maybe a new member of the JL, meets Nightwing. They see this charismatic young man and instantly label him as a sunshine character, much to the amusement of the Titans.
Nightwing, in 93% of his interactions with other heroes, is super friendly and nice. He's great as a leader and team player. Most heroes, especially the newer ones, gravitate towards him and trust him.
Then this new hero so happens to accompany Nightwing on a mission that goes wrong. The villain does henious, disgusting acts (either to civilians or other bats), and Nightwing's personality does a 180. No longer is the new hero in the presence of a bright and happy Nightwing.
No. Now they have to work with a man boiling in rage and anger issues who doesn't stop until his gauntlets drip in blood.

Jason: There is something so cathartic about taking all your frustrations out on someone in a big explosion.
Dick: yeah, but explosive rage isn’t healthy
Jason: no I meant literal explosions

Can I be honest with everyone a second? I honestly think that every instance used to justify calling Dick Grayson the “angry robin” is him being justifiably mad at something that would make anyone who was put in the situation mad.

Jason, explaining the rest of the family to Duke: "-and he got Dick from the circus."
Bruce, who was only half listening while looking at his work emails, reading the days newspaper, and drinking coffee: "Technically I got him from juvie."
Dick, who just walked into the room and has no clue what they're talking about: "Technically you got me from the police precinct after I escaped juvie."
Jason: "..."
Duke: "..."
Damian: "..."
Duke: "You can't just not elaborate. Why were you in juvie?"
Dick, shrugging and stealing a muffin from Jason's plate: "Attempted murder."
Bruce, still half listening: "Multiple accounts of attempted murder, actually."

Tbh, nothing has made me sympathize more with Kipperlilly Copperkettle than her anger issues.
Cause anger is an emotion we feel when we're missing something. When we need something and can't get it. It's a balm to make us feel better when things don't go our way.
When things aren't fair.
#d20#dimension 20#d20 fantasy high#fantasy high junior year#d20 spoilers#fhjy#fantasy high spoilers#of course just cause you feel like things are unfair doesnt mean they actually are#and the reason why its an anger issue is cause the anger has befome detrimental#its warped from being somethjng to comfort you when you feel powerless to a tool you use against others when you fedl slighted#part of why anger issues are so hard to overcome is cause of how good it feels in the moment#even if you feel terrible guilt afterwards#the catharsis of releasing anger can be such a relief#that you dont even realise youve started looking for reasons to be angry#youre listing things that are terrible with the world just so you can feel better by getting angry at them#things like capitalism and people who bullied you and how your boss is a terrible racist#things that everyone can get angry over#until they get more personal and warps your judgment#“my boss called a group of immigrant a bunch of racial slurs” “his secretary was there too she can back me up”#“when i brought it up with her she says she wasnt payjng attention or something” “shes peobably racist too and thats why he hired her”#it becomes easier to make jumps like that instead of giving people the benefit of the doubt#easier to justify your anger with the smallest slights#until youre yelling at a pedestrian whe. you almost ran them over#“sure it was a red light but they shouldve paid attention and seen me coming too”#anyways this is all to say kipperlilly probably has some issues to deal with#idk if shes actually behind this plot or if shes being manipulated#doesmt stop her from being a total dick tho#but it does make me a little more sympathetic to her

AU: Dick When Bruce "Dies."
When Tim comes to Dick with his evidence (it's literally just a family portrait) of Bruce being alive, Dick pauses. He's a detective as well. He knows that unless the Waynes committed a lot of in-breeding, it's impossible for a late late late family member of Bruce's to have both the Kane and Wanye genetic traits. It's not possible for someone to look so such like Bruce.
Unfortunately, this would mean that Tim is right.
Dick glances up at Tim and plasters on a sympathetic and concerned smile. "Tim... I understand that losing Bruce is hard, especially with all of the lo-"
"You don't believe me." Tim's voice is filled with betrayal, disappointment, and incredulity.
Dick winces as his gaze drifts away. "I'm sorry."
And Dick is. He knows that the lack of support will hurt his younger brother. He knows he's betraying Tim's trust. He knows what this will do to Tim and to their relationship. Dick watches as Tim's barriers get thrown down, and his face loses all tells. He watches his younger brother put emotional distance between them as a form of protection. He watches the immediate damage and knows that, if he fixed it now, they may return to normal. He knows the consequences of his next words.
"There's a grief counselor in Metropolis-"
"You want to-" Tim cuts himself off as he stares at the older man in shock. "You think I'm crazy."
"No! Tim. I think you're going through a rough time right now and yo-"
Tim's laugh is sharp, and his eyes, the only tell the younger one has left, are full of pain. "I see."
"Tim, I-"
"No," Tim shakes his head. A bitter smile is flashed before his face melts into impassiveness. "It's okay, Dick. I understand."
Dick doesn't think the teen does. If Tim truly did understand, he wouldn't react this way. If Tim knew why he was being rejected, the teen would do what Dick is trying to prevent him from doing.
Instead, Dick is a silent observer to Tim becoming more withdrawn. Dick reaches out to the Justice League and expresses his concern for Tim (while implying that Tim's theories are from a mental breakdown). Dick takes Robin away from Tim and cuts out any support the young man might receive. He knows it will hurt Tim. He knows it is currently hurting him.
Dick still does it.
When Tim returns to Gotham with evidence of Bruce's presence in the timestream, Dick grieves. All of his effort, all the pain he put them both through, it was all for naught.

You can really when people who're both Atla and DC fans don't read comics when they compare Zutara to Dickkory and think Zuko is like Dick and that Katara is like Kory instead of the other way around

not sure who needs to hear this but anger is not inherently a "problematic" emotion and it shouldn't always be categorized as a "toxic trait" for narcissism or abusers
