was looking on ao3 for some kataang fics and saw yet another zvtara fic in our tag and clicked on it because I’m a hater first and foremost but my god…
Tumblr media
LMAO
nah… the way they project this idea that Aang views Katara as a machine to repopulate the airbenders when not once did he or will he ever act that way canonically. holy shit I just??? where the actual fuck does this concept even come from? they want Katara to be his abuse victim sooooooo bad 😂
Tumblr media
and what the cinnamon toast fuck is this passage in particular?
“Should he not sacrifice as well?”
ummmmm…. I hate to break it to you fic author, but Aang literally did sacrifice. he legitimately lost everything there is to fucking lose. he even lost the clothes off his back and the only artifact that his people made specifically for him. he fucking burned it at the bottom of a volcano. or did you forget? actually nvm, you probably never watched in the first place so of course you wouldn’t know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like ppl can write whatever they want idc, but acting like Aang, a character who is a sole survivor of fucking genocide never LOST or suffered or sacrificed anything? be so fucking serious rn. get out of my damn face. like you can fuckin ship your ship without committing the most egregious and genuinely offensive character assassination possible

Zutara shippers hating on Ichihime ain't it and it ain't ever BEEN it,who cares about red and blue and sun and moon when Ichigo is a goth punk dude who respects women,is a Shakespeare nerd and a Team Dad and a brooding outcast while Orihime is a bubbly pastel girl who's the most popular student at their school but also super weird on the same level yet opposite spectrum as him and got her own arcs and relathionships and they've got a Grim Reaper/monster x Goddess Princess/angel motif and strawberry x chocolate and a million other symbolisms and have been fucking obsessed with eachother since day 1 and somehow made it sweet and healhy instead of creepy and demeaning."Zuko took a lightningbending from Azula for Katara!"Ichigo literally ROSE FROM THE DEAD TO PROTECT ORIHIME after being straight up killed by Ulquiorra and Zuko would've done that for Aang too because that's his baby brother and pseudo-son,you are NOTHING pack it up normies who think they're weirdos

I never understood why zutarians only reduce kataras character to being motherly. Especially in book 1 she is the most immature sometimes.
Again, it's a classic cope of shippers that don't like that their ship is not canon/the only option.
If they pretend Katara is everyone's mom, that puts a larger gap between her and Aang. If Katara is "the mom" then she does not need to go back to her tribe with her dad, even though that's clearly what she wants, because her role is "mother" not "literal child." If the Gaang only sees her as the mom/maid, then she is victimized/stiffled by them and empowered by Zuko who went "lets go murder a man."
Unfortunately for Zutarians, anyone who actually paid attention to the show knows that Katara might be motherly, but she's a goofy, stubborn child that has moments of immaturity. She's a kid that enjoys the company of all her friends, especially Aang (who was the first person to encourage her to learn waterbending and stood by her against Pakku) because they're PEERS, and she longs for the day the war will be over so she can go back home and be with everyone she loves and allowed to be a kid.
And that's why their metas and fanfics are wildly out of character - they're not truly interested in exploring how a romance between her and Zuko could fit into all that, and how it'd get into conflict with HIS own goals for his life, they just disregard everything about her characterization to put her in the role of a victim of everyone in her life EXCEPT Zuko and that her one chance of happiness would be by joining the nation that is single-handedly responsible for all the misery in her life, so she can live as Zuko's girlboss queen and help him rehabilitate an entire country through political intrigue, marriage alliances, war and what not.
They LOVE saying they ship zutara because "it's what's best for Katara" but their way of writing that pairing robs her of literally everything she wanted: her right to enjoy what's left of her childhood, her tribe and culture, her family, her friends - and the guy she absolutely ADORES. All for the sake of pairing her up with someone that ALSO found happiness in someone else already and would not benefit from Zutara either because Zuko's goals for his own life simply do not match Katara's at all.

Being a ZK Stan in 2024 has to just be miserable lmao. How are you even able to enjoy the show while not liking/ straight up hating Kataang. It’s so embedded into the heart of the show throughout all 3 seasons.
And now with the new content like the live action and animated movies there’s gonna be even more Kataang content 😂

I love Zutara as much as the next girlie, but I think people romanticizing Zuko catching Azula's lightning in the Final Agni Kai are doing Zuko's character a massive disservice. He would have done that for anyone. Not just anyone in the Gaang, anyone.
He did it for the division he ended up getting burned over. He did it for his subordinate that was going to fall to his death after the ship was struck by lightning. He did it for Lee, when he was kidnapped by Gao. He did it for Iroh, when he confronted his dad and tried to break him out of prison. He did it for the whole Gaang at the Western Air Temple. He did it for Sokka, Suki, and Hakoda at the Boiling Rock.
His whole character revolves around saving everyone else first. Hell, he tried to save Zhao of all people! There's no way that would have gone well for Zuko if Zhao had actually taken his hand. He always does what he thinks is right first before considering his own safety.
Zuko always saves other people. Even if, especially if, he can't save himself.

I think that one of the reasons I hate zutara and I like zukka is because the zukka fandom is pretty much the opposite of the zutara fandom.
I've never ever seen a post where someone tries to prove that zukka should've been canon or that it IS canon. Zutara shippers take every scene between the two and over analyze everything to the point that it's exhausting and annoying.
Zukka shippers don't do that, and most of the fandom is just like, "Haha, what if these two kissed?" And honestly, I love that sm more than the over analyzing

They way certain people here want Katara to be a woman with no agency over her life and marriage, miserable, unhappy, abused and used as an incubator by the evil monk Aang....so sad.
She's a hero, powerful, the master of water bending, in love and happy :) And she’s loved and respected by Aang
If she was unhappy with Aang, she would have dropped his ass in 0.5 seconds. Yes the real Katara can do that, unlike your cinderella self insert
You all reducing one of the strongest, most interesting, and dynamically written characters in the show to misogynistic tropes and theories just because you don't like the boy she ended up with. You are literally making up things to be mad about. This is hilarious
Well you can stay mad forever lol

atla fandom please learn to expand your understanding of katara beyond “she’s the mom friend.” and for the love of god, stop viewing every single interaction she has with the gaang as her being motherly. she’s a child too! credit to chiefesskatara on twitter.

Unpopular opinion if Zuko wasn’t attractive Zutara wouldn’t be as popular as it is. There I said it. Zuko and Katara would be horrible together, aesthetically sure whatever but actually no.
Zuko who is known for his temper and impulsive tendencies with Katara who is just as impulsive and hot headed.
Lol they would crash and burn so fast. Water and fire don’t mix, opposites attract but that’s about it.
They would argue all the time after the honeymoon phase wore off, they both yell and get angry with their partners and wouldn’t stand to be yelled out without yelling back.
Aang and Mai both are for the most part calm when their partners get angry they help calm them down (more so Aang). Let them rant etc get it all out, take no offense to words said in anger (again more Aang than Mai)
Aang being rightfully distraught upon finding out he’s the last survivor of his people and that his only companion from his culture is gone isn’t the argument you think it is. Like who wouldn’t be mad. Also using Katara helping calm Aang down isn’t the gotcha you think it it. That’s what partners fucking do like. Bfs/gfs help each other clam down when acting irrational. It’s all oh I want a man who only I can calm down that’s such an ideal trope until it’s not your fave couple 🙄
I said what I said and this is coming from someone who used to love Zutara (still likes it? meh depend on the day)

the whole zvtara argument that Aang “forced” Katara to have 3 kids w him bc Bumi and Kya weren’t airbenders is so pointless and in complete bad faith. there is no proof to back it up. and the thing is, it doesn’t matter what the canon depicts. Kataang could have had 2 airbender kids and a waterbender, they could have had no airbender kids, they could have had 3, whatever combination you want to imagine. the point I’m making is it wouldn’t matter if the combination was canonically different, they would still come up with some bullshit reasoning to paint Aang in a terrible light and to push this idea that he views Katara as a baby machine.
even if Bumi was born an airbender, Kya a waterbender and Tenzin a nonbender, zvtarians would still say some shit like “well obviously they just gave up after tenzin”. if only Kya was the airbender, same argument. if none of them were, same argument. if all 3 were, they’d say some shit like “well obviously Aang thought that 3 was enough”, that or they’d be like “Katara put her foot down after all 3 were airbenders and stopped taking his abuse!”
their entire argument starts with “kataang had kids to repopulate airbenders”, so everything they use to back up this belief is molded to prove that preconceived idea. but the canon doesn’t and never will support this concept. the only reason kataang had kids together is bc they loved one another and wanted to be parents. and acting like kataang’s kids were ever born out of a desire for anything but an expression of love is a lie.

Imagine being Katara.Your whole life since you were 4,you were parentified because your mom died and when you became a t(w)een, you met a guy who gives you freedom and that's when you get to do the direct action and activism you've been wanting to for years and reclaiming girlhood for yourself by being feminine with a hidden softness but beyond tough as all fuck not just attitude wise but also in your battle tactics and prowess and you only stop going out on the field because you got too old but even then you end up as a teacher to the younger generations of your people. All that, just to be remembered as the girl who ended up with the wrong guy because you choose the one who was your best friend instead of the edgelord who you said and proved you hated countless times and treated like your brother after he made things up to you because they didn't buy you were a real girl otherwise.Forget being on the news bruh,i'd be on multiple goverment watchlists

Can you give examples of Aang showing Empathy? Oh wait, you can't.
Actually, I can - because unlike you, I base my opinion of the characters on the actual stuff that happened in the story, not the bad faith takes dumb people on the internet come up with.
Zuko literally only survived past book 1 because Aang was the ONLY person amongst the heroes that gave a single fuck about his well-being. Aang offered to be FRIENDS with him as early as episode 13, even though this dude is trying to kidnap him.
In the first damn episode we see him realize and try to remedy Katara's struggle with no longer being able to act like a kid and have fun. He wants to travel with her so SHE gets to learn waterbending. He willingly lets Zuko take him into his ship because he understood that a conflict could lead to the people of the water tribe getting hurt or killed.
In Warriors of Kyoshi he apologizes to Katara for letting all the praise and admiration go to this head. He makes sure to put out the fires Zuko and his crew started in Suki's village.
He tries to help remedy the Hei-Bai situation, even though he is unsure of himself and even scared, because he knows he is the only one that has any chance of helping - and the thing that allows him to connect with Hei-Bai is the fact that he is ALSO upset about the destruction the Fire Nation has caused AND hopeful that the world would eventually heal.
He thinks Jet is awesome because he wants to help people that are being oppressed by the Fire Nation - and then is horrified when he finds out his intension is to "free" them by killing everyone
He wants to help the two rival groups not only safely cross the Great Divide, but also stop hating each other.
He confesses that he hid the map to Hakoda because Bato, Katara and Sokka are showing how much they appreciate and trust him and he feels unworthy of it after what he did because he knows it'd hurt him if the roles were reversed.
He is so devastated by the fact that he ACCIDENTALLY hurt Katara that he swears to never firebend again. He is also able to recognize the same principle behind his mistake in Zhao's fighting style, allowing him to win the battle against the bastard.
He accepts the fact that the Northern Air Temple is now occupied by people who not only don't belong to his culture but also don't understand it and unknowingly destroyed something sacred to him (and that one of them had been forced to make weapons for the Fire Nation) because these people have nowhere else to go and he doesn't want them to suffer.
He is furious at Pakku for refusing to teach Katara waterbending, because he knows how much it'd mean to her and how unfair it is that she can't learn it just because of her gender.
He is so devastated by the death of the Moon Spirit that the Ocean Spirit latches onto him to avenge it and save the day - and the leve of destruction it causes haunts Aang, even though the violence was against his enemies. And still, he tries to go into the Avatar state again because people are dying and he can't accept that.
After the fall of Omashu, he wants to rescue Bumi, not because he needs a teacher, but because they're friends.
He felt empathy for Toph when she was explaining to her parents how lonely and unappriacted their over-protection made her feel.
He and Katara both feel bad for snapping at Toph during "The Chase" and wanted to apologize for not understanding that being part of a group was a radical change to her, even though she had refused to even try. He also didn't have a problem with fighting alongside Zuko and Iroh against Azula, AND he looked concerned when Iroh was injured.
After Katara comments on the fact he called Toph Sifu but not her, he calls her Sifu while bowing, to show that he respects her both as his master and friend.
The hopelessness and downright depression he was feeling after Appa was stolen only starts healing because he saw a couple being happy with their newborn baby - the same couple he decided to help cross the Serpent's Pass, even though he and his friends had just been allowed to take a much safer route to Ba Sing Se.
His understanding and sympathy towards Jet, even after everything the guy did, was so strong that it freed him from literal brainwashing.
He doesn't want to push his love for Katara aside to gain power because he cares about her too much - and then does it anyway because, even though not making her his main focus 24/7 offers the risk of her being hurt, him neglecting his mission guarantees she'll get hurt.
He is devastated to learn that the world thinks he is dead because he knows he was everyone's last hope - and yet in the end he still accepts the burden of failure because he understood that, at that moment, everyone would be safer if no one else knew he was still alive.
He goes to a Fire Nation school and bonds with the kids, wanting to give them a taste of freedom and joy, as well as trying to understand what the war is like from their perspective. The same episode also has him pull Katara for a dance because he noticed she was feeling left out.
The boy felt empathy for, and understood the mistakes of, both Ruko and Sozin. SOZIN. Aang could see the humanity in the monster that is responsible for him losing his entire culture and everyone he loved.
When Zuko spoke about wanting to control his impulses so he wouldn't accidentally hurt anyone, Aang explicitly connected with that struggle and saw them being teacher and student as fate, and Zuko agreed because that's how deep their connection was.
Aang is not happy about Katara wanting to murder a man, but he still lets her take Appa on her mission and is not disapproving when she ultimately spares the guy but does not forgive him and makes it clear she never will.
He feels empathy for freaking Ozai, to the point that refuses to kill the guy - even as he has the balls to say that Aang's family, his people, deserved to die. He spared that guy - but only after he had a way to do that without it meaning the death of more innocents. Aang, the pacifist, was going to turn his back on everything he believed in just to avoid more human suffering.
So yeah, miss me with your bullshit and don't come back until your brain is developed enough to understand a cartoon aimed at kindergarterners.
