Plot: When it doesn’t look like Bucky will make it home in time for Christmas, he promises to make it up to Y/N. Pairing: TFATWS Bucky Barnes x Female!Reader Warnings: A few small mentions of Bucky’s past, but other than that it’s just sickly sweet fluff. But, as always, if I miss any triggers, please let me know. Notes: This was written as part of a Secret Santa fic exchange for the Thot Neighbourhood discord server. I drew @breakablebarnes, TFATWS Bucky, the dialogue prompt: “But I’ve been such a good girl” and the festive device of some hot cocoa. I hope you like your fic!

“Come on Bucky, are you sure you can’t?” 

“Yes.”

“It’s just-”

“I know. But I’m sorry Y/N, no. I can’t. We’re under pretty strict orders here.” He sighs, and Y/N can just picture the look of disappointment on his face. No doubt his mirrors hers perfectly.

“But I’ve been such a good girl!” Y/N exclaims. Her words make Bucky stop before he can even think of a comeback, and Y/N regrets her word choice right away. “Okay, maybe that one was too much. Seriously though, you’ve been working really hard these past few months, and it’s almost Christmas. Are you sure you can’t be home sooner? I don’t want you overworking yourself.” A sigh sounds on the other end of the phone. However, it’s not an angry or frustrated sigh. It’s a disappointed one. One that makes Y/N feel guilty. 

She honestly doesn’t mean to pester him so much. After all, she knows Bucky is trying his best to get Tony to change his mind and let them go home early. And of course, she knows that Bucky’s work as an Avenger is incredibly important, far more than her job could ever be. She’s so proud of him for going out and saving the world, the same world that only a few decades ago treated him so horribly. Now, he can show everyone he’s the hero that she knew he always was, and prove that his past doesn’t define him. 

Still though, Y/N doesn’t want him overexerting himself to prove that he’s worthy of everyone’s forgiveness. The missions have been getting longer, and she’s often received text messages from Bucky all hours of the night, making her even more worried about her boyfriend’s sleep levels. Even though he pretends to be strong, she can tell how tired he is, and see how his past still affects him. Bucky’s the kindest, bravest soul she knows, and she just wishes he believed in himself more, and saw himself as the person she knows he is. Someone kind and loving, despite everything that he’s been through. In her mind, he doesn’t need a thousand missions under his belt to prove that he’s a hero. But until then, she’ll tell him what a wonderful person he is as much as she can. 

If worrying about Bucky’s health wasn’t enough for her, this mission seems like it’s been going on forever. She misses not having him around, having him sleeping next to her and having his smiling face as the first thing she sees when she wakes up and the last thing she sees before she falls asleep. Especially now, in the run up to the festive period, it’s torture to be so far away from Bucky. Honestly, it feels like he’s barely home nowadays. Sure, as the girlfriend of an Avenger she knows that she signed up for this life…but that doesn’t mean that she can’t hate it.

“I’m sorry Y/N, but I can’t. Tony says we’ve still got some work to do here, so it’ll still be a few weeks before we can go home.” Her heart sinks, and she feels her entire body slump in disappointment. “I know. I hate it too.” Bucky says, as if he can feel her pain through the phone. He’s good at that: noticing that something is wrong with her and providing love and support before she even knows something is wrong. To her, that’s even more proof of what a good person Bucky Barnes is, and it shows he was never the monster HYDRA made him to be. And it also makes her love and miss him even more. “You know, I’ve been talking about you so much that I think Sam and Steve are going crazy.” She giggles at that, and Bucky does too. “God, I miss that noise so much. I miss you so much.”

“I miss you too.”

“You’re my favourite person in the world. Don’t you ever forget that.” 

“Like I could ever forget. You say it to me every time we call.” She reminds him, sniffling a little. Despite how upset she is and how much she misses Bucky, Y/N curses a little at herself for crying. She’d never want Bucky to feel bad for not being able to come home sooner, or for him to think that she resents being with him. Because she loves Bucky Barnes more than anything in the world. A bit of distance won’t change that.

“Doesn’t stop it from being true, though.” She hears a noise on the other line, and Bucky sighs. “I better go. Tony’s shouting something, and you know what he’s like when he’s kept waiting. Don’t want a repeat of last year’s New Year’s Eve party.” He chuckles. The mention of the happy memory makes Y/N's heart sink as her yearning for Bucky deepens. She knows he’s trying to cheer her up and mask his own disappointment, but she also knows that both of them can tell it’s not working. They'd rather be laughing and making memories together here at home, rather than miles apart from each other. And she doesn’t even know when they’ll be able to do that again.

“I swear these phone calls get shorter every week.” She sighs.

“I know. If I can, I’ll call you tomorrow, okay? Love you.”

“Love you too.” 

“I promise I’ll make it up to you.” He tells her before the call disconnects. And then, he’s gone. And once again, Y/N is alone.

A week later, Y/N comes home after another long day at work. The closer it gets to Christmas, she’s just as busy as Bucky. Bucky. Another pang hits her stomach at the thought of her boyfriend. Thankfully, they’ve spoken more on the phone since that call last week, and being so busy preoccupies her slightly. But that doesn’t mean she’s missing him any less. Christmas is almost a week away, and there’s still no word of when Bucky will be home. Hopefully, it’s sooner rather than later.

As she steps closer into her house, Y/N suddenly feels the hair on the back of her neck sticking up. Something seems off. When your boyfriend and most of your best friends are Avengers, you know a lot about personal safety and self defence. And that means that Y/N can tell immediately when someone’s been in her house. Her blood chilling, she steps closer into her hallway, rooting around in her bag for the panic alarm Tony gave her. She can almost hear Bucky’s voice in her head, telling her to just get out of the house and call for help. But when he left, she promised him she’d be brave, and there’s no better time to be brave than confronting an intruder on her own. As she nears her living room, Y/N’s heart is thumping so loudly it might break out of her chest. She takes a breath, expecting to see the room destroyed….

Yet, when she turns, Y/N sees the exact opposite. Her Christmas lights are all on, filling the room with a soft glow. Her fairy lights have also been strung up, adding even more light. An array of blankets, cushions and stuffed animals cover her couch. Everything looks so festive and cosy. Y/N walks into the room, her mouth dropping open in surprise. “How did-”

“Oh fuck. I wasn’t expecting you to be home yet.” The sound of a voice almost makes her scream…until she realises who it belongs to. Bucky. She drops everything, rushing into his arms without another word, almost knocking the pair off their feet. “Oof! Hey you!” Bucky chuckles, kissing her temple as he tightly wraps his arms around her.

“What are you doing here?” She asks, her voice muffled by Bucky’s shirt. “You said Tony wouldn’t let you go.”

“Turns out the mission finished earlier than expected, so he let us go home early after all. I thought I'd surprise you as an early Christmas present.” He explains, rubbing his hands across her back. 

“I’m so glad to see you. I missed you so much.” She whispers.

“I missed you too.” They both hold each other close, grasping the other tightly. After so long spent apart, all they want is to keep each other close and to never let go. “That’s not the only surprise, though.” Bucky admits. Y/N frowns.

“There’s more? Buck, you didn’t have to. Having you home for Christmas is all I ever wanted.” 

“I know. But you’re my best girl, and I promised I’d make it up to you, didn’t I?” He asks, and she nods. She swears she’s the luckiest girl in the world to have Bucky in her life. He loves her so much, and he’s so giving. “We’re going to spend the night watching all your favourite festive movies. So you go sit down, and I’ll be right back.” He orders, kissing her cheek. A few minutes later, Bucky comes back holding a tray with two mugs and a big bowl of popcorn. Sitting down, he passes over a mug, and Y/N takes a sip. As soon as she tastes the warm cocoa with whipped cream and marshmallows, she moans happily. The noise makes Bucky burst into laughter, and despite how much she wants to tell him to shove off for laughing at her, the sound makes her insides go all warm and gooey. Despite being called the Winter Soldier and the grumpy front he puts up in front of most people…Bucky is like sunshine personified more often than he likes to think he is. Or, at least he’s like sunshine to her. And maybe that’s all that matters.

As Bucky wraps one of the many blankets around them, his hand finds hers underneath it, and he gives it a squeeze. “Merry Christmas Y/N. I love you.” He whispers, smiling. Instead of replying with words at first, Y/N kisses him. The kiss is soft at first, but deepens as all the pair’s longing for each other is released. Bucky’s tongue slips between her lips, and the flavours of chocolate, cream and marshmallows dance across their tongues as his stubble brushes against her chin. The kiss is perfect, like a wish come true. And this one is well worth the wait. It’s so good to finally have him home.

“I love you too.” She whispers. “So much.”

3. A small snake got into a bank I used to work at and no one would go near it. After a minute, I grabbed a ruler, coaxed the snake to coil around part of it and took it outside. The manager made me a "snake charmer" award later and had no idea why we all laughed so hard when she gave it to me.

“Hey Doll, have you seen Alpine’s leash?”

You stick your head around the edge of the wall and look around.

“Umm, I thought it was hanging by the door like always?” you muse.

“I know, me too,” Bucky replies as he shuffles through the shoes on the floor.

“Buckkkkkk,” you whine.

“Yea doll face?” he answers.

“Have you seen my white Nike sneakers? I thought I left them in here,” you shout from the bedroom.

“They’re right here baby doll,” he says, hooking his thumbs into the heels and holding them up for you.

You come wandering into the living room and pluck them from his fingers.

“Thank you,” you say with a kiss to his cheek.

“But where is that leash?” he mutters.

A loud crash has you both jumping up and rushing into the kitchen. Your eyes roll before the words come out of your mouth.

“ALPINE!” both you and Bucky chide when you spot the cat perched atop the refrigerator looking down at the leash that’s now on the floor.

“He pulled it on top of the fridge again,” Bucky grumbles.

“At least we found it,” you shrug.

Bucky smiles and reaches up to get the cat, carrying him in the crook of his metal arm.

“Come on buddy, time for a walk.”

Alpine meows and rubs his head on Bucky’s arm, purring softly.

You slip your sneakers on and grab your bag, opening the door while Bucky sets up Alpine. The white fluffy cat trots out the door like he’s on the catwalk and you can’t help but giggle.

“He loves his walks,” Bucky smiles.

“To be fair, so do I,” you say, taking Bucky’s outstretched hand.

The three of you mosey along down the sidewalk, the summer heat subdued now that the sun is starting to set and the sky is alight with pink and orange hues.

“Want to walk down to the Brooklyn Bridge Park?” Bucky asks, giving your hand a squeeze.

You nod and curl into his side, laying your head against his shoulder.

Alpine trots contentedly in front of you, his tail swishing back and forth as he carefully watches the comings and goings of the city.

By the time you reach the park the sun is at the horizon and a splash of pink is spreading out across the darkening sky like a rolling wave.

You walk down to the pathway that meanders by the water and breathe in the salty air.

“Your shoe is untied doll.”

“Huh?” you ask, looking down at your feet. “Oh yeah. That’s ok.”

You start to walk but Bucky tsks and hands you Alpine’s leash.

“No, no. I can’t have you tripping and hurting yourself,” he says. “I’ll tie it.”

He kneels down and gently pulls your foot forward, carefully working the laces through his thick fingers.

“What would I do without you Buck?” you whisper.

“I think you could manage to get your shoes tied at least,” he teases. “Gimme the other foot. I want to make sure it’s tight.”

“You’re the best,” you tell him. “You know that. I’m so lucky to have you.”

He looks up at you, his breath catching in his throat at the way the setting sunlight dances on your skin, bathing you in an ethereal glow and making your eyes sparkle like stardust.

“I love you doll.”

“I love you too Bucky.”

Alpine weaves his way through Bucky’s legs, rubbing on his calf and purring for attention. It makes your smile widen and Bucky’s heart skips a beat, the beauty of you and the moment taking his breath away.

Just the kind of moment for which he’s been waiting.

“Heya doll face?” he asks, still on his knee.

“Yea Buck?” you giggle.

“So, I’ve been wanting to find the right time to ask you something…and this might just be perfect.”

You make a small gasp, covering your mouth as tears instantly fill your eyes. His lips turn up into the softest lopsided smile and your heart flutters anew.

“I…uh,” he starts before clearing the emotion from his throat. “How you look at me, the way you are now, it makes me wonder…where do I belong if not right here. Right next to you, breathing you in, this love. The right words are so hard to find because they never seem like enough. But I just know…there’s this beating in my heart, and it sounds like you and this ache in my chest…it feels like you and you are everything I could ever dream of.”

A single tear rolls down your cheek and his fingers twitch to wipe it away but there’s one more thing to ask.

“Will you marry me?”

You nod ‘yes’ frantically, choking back more tears before you throw yourself into his arms. He catches you, holding you against his chest as you pepper his cheeks with kisses and run your fingers through his hair. He sits on the pavement and wraps you up, pressing you closer.

“Bucky,” you whisper, resting your forehead to his. “Bucky…”

Silent tears roll down your cheeks and now he wastes no time to gently brush his thumb across your skin.

He takes your hand in his and rubs his thumb over your left ring finger.

“There’s only one problem,” he says, giving you wide eyes. “I don’t have the ring with me.”

You throw your head back and laugh.

“I don’t need a ring Bucky. I’ve got you.”

“Baby doll,” he breathes out. “I know but I want to give you everything…”

“You already have,” you interrupt, kissing him quiet.

When you pull away he smiles against your lips.

“I do have an idea though…”

You watch as he brings his hand between your bodies and slides the black hair tie off his wrist. He holds your left hand in his and loops the tie around your ring finger, twisting it several times before it’s tight enough and won’t fall off.

You lift your hand up to your face and wiggle your fingers.

“It’s absolutely perfect,” you cheer.

Alpine agrees with a meow and jumps up onto Bucky’s shoulder, smooshing his head under Bucky’s chin.

Champion Week 💜

Morale is dwindling— anons are still being dicks— the fandom needs a little positivity boost and I wanted to try and bring people together again with the help of the lovely Alice @maladaptivexxdaydreaming​ 💜

The aim is to create a wave of promotion throughout the fandom over a week’s period to try and champion other writers, potentially earn you new readers/fans/friends or help you stumble across a writer you may not have found before!

To sign up, please fill out the Google Form here and answer all of the questions listed. Which include (but not limited to): your preferred actor, your favourite tropes/kinks, if you are interested in dark fics and any triggers/squicks you may have.

We will then pair you up with another blog and you can read up to seven of their fics over the course of the week. The minimum amount is three fics over the week as I know time is limited for some.

Your blog will also be assigned to someone else so they can read your work and get promoted too!

This is limited to CE/SS fandoms/characters only, sorry.

All participants must be over the age of 18. We will be checking every blog upon sign up for an indication of age— if there is no clear sign, then your application will be dismissed.

You are under no obligation to write long reblog comments. Comment whatever you feel comfortable with.

Bucky Barnes hated you.

You were constantly hanging around in the same circles. Bucky’s band, The Soldiers, included him on drums, Sam on guitar, Steve as the lead singer, and Sharon as the bassist. Your band, Like Magic, included you as the lead singer, Natasha as the guitar, Wanda as the bassist, and Yelena on the drums. Your bands were constantly up for the same gigs and always trying to outdo the other. Well, you and Bucky were trying to outdo the other.

He hated your whole band, but he hated you the most. You were the lead, after all. Not to mention the fact that you knew exactly how to push his buttons.

Like tonight, for instance. The Soldiers were supposed to play at the 9:00 slot at their favorite gig spot, Fury’s bar, but Like Magic had somehow taken over that 9:00 spot, pushing The Soldiers to 7:00. Bucky was furious.

The rest of his band was kind of indifferent about it. It sucked, but they got over it rather quickly, which pissed Bucky off even more. As the bands arrived at Fury’s bar, he kept his eyes peeled for you. He finally spotted you, up at the bar ordering a drink from Loki, the bartender. You laughed at something Loki said and Bucky tightened his fist as he walked over towards the bar.

“Just what the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Bucky asked as he reached the bar.

You turned with your eyebrows furrowed until you seen the culprit of the verbal assault towards you. “Ah, Buck. I figured you would find me.”

“What the fuck did you do?” He repeated, raising his eyebrows. He wasn’t in the mood for your little games.

You smirked up at him. “Whatever do you mean, Buck?”

He huffed out and leaned over to place his hands on the bar, caging you in. You could see Loki tense up at the scene from the corner of your eye. “How did you get our 9:00 set?” Bucky said, eerily quiet.

The smirk never left your face. “It was just given to the better band, Buck.” You shrugged, and you could already see the outpour of anger on Bucky’s face. His knuckles turned white as he gripped down onto the bar.

“You always do this shit!” He said, frustrated. “Why do you constantly have to one-up me?”

You pushed his chest, as he had gotten closer to you, but he didn’t budge. “I don’t have to one-up you. I just do.”

“I fucking hate you.” He said.

“That’s not what you were saying last weekend,” You said, quirking your eyebrow.

He gritted his teeth as you both thought back to the previous Saturday night.

“Aw, fuck, doll…” Bucky moaned as he ran his fingers through your hair as you took his length into your mouth.

You moaned around his cock, sending vibrations that sent Bucky fucking wild. He moaned again as you swirled your tongue around him.

“Fuck,” Bucky breathed out. “I’m gonna cum.”

Steve and Sam came into the room in search of a smoke. Nat piped up, looking at Steve. “What, can’t get your own?”

Steve responded, “Was hoping you pretty ladies would have some to spare.”

Nat rolled her eyes, but she smiled. “You’re lucky that we are nice.”

“Nice?” Sam chuckled. “Kind of a strong word.”

Steve smacked his arm. “Not helping.”

Wanda chuckled. “Come on, boys. The more the merrier.”

Wanda pulled out her carton of cigarettes, handing each of the boys one. Wanda lit her own cigarette and then the boys leaned into hers to light their own.

The boys sat in the floor across from you ladies on the couch. Everyone began talking and drinking and Yelena and Sharon made their way into the room as well. One thing led to another and the 6 of you were playing around and jamming out a little to warm up for the gig. Steve and Nat were riffing, and you and Wanda were harmonizing with Sharon while Yelena hit a beat on the table. Sam was cheering the group on as Bucky rounded the corner to the green room.

He had taken 3 shots of tequila at the bar while he chatted up Loki and the other bartender, Kate. He eventually found his way to the back room and what does he find? You hanging out with his fucking friends. Bucky thought he was mad before, but he saw red as you laughed with Sharon, Steve, and Sam. How dare you?

“What the fuck is this?” Bucky asked, trying to appear as casual as possible, despite his growing rage.

Everyone’s smile seemed to fall as Bucky’s presence changed the atmosphere of the entire room. Everyone stopped their playing and turned to the dark-haired drummer. “We were just playing around, Buck.” Steve piped up when no one responded.

You couldn’t help but smirk. You knew this was pushing Bucky’s buttons, and you loved it. Did you plan it? No, but you definitely weren’t going to complain. You loved how he was when he got all worked up.

“Well, continue on.” Bucky said, gesturing his hands towards the instruments. “We go on in twenty.”

Everyone began to chat and talk again, and you raised from your seat to head over to where Bucky was standing in the doorway. “Angry, much?”

Bucky grabbed both of your elbows and pushed you up against the doorframe. “Bathroom. Two minutes.” He growled before pushing you away and heading towards the bathroom.

You couldn’t help your grin as he walked away. You bite your lip and tried to appear busy until it was time to head towards the bathroom yourself.

When you walked into the bathroom, you were immediately dragged into the bathroom stall where Bucky quickly locked the door and slammed you against the stall. He attached his lips to yours instantly sliding his tongue into your mouth, which you accepted. He pushed the hem of your skirt up as he crowded you against the wall. He began to undo his belt and push down both his pants and his boxers. Before you even had time to react, he had slid your panties to the slid and slammed into you, wrapping one leg around his waist, hitting your cervix immediately.

“Hey Buck?”

“Hmm doll?” he responds, his eyes still on his Astronomy book.

“How’s the book?” you inquire, while you try to play it cool.

“Love it so far. You know I love reading Neil deGrasse Tyson. These articles are so interesting.”

“That’s great. So happy you’re enjoying it!” you say, still rooted to the spot.

He finally looks up with a sideways smirk. “Did you need something doll face?”

You dangle a face wipe in front of his eyes and he pushes it away so he can see you again, raising his brows.

“What’s that for doll?”

“Can you wipe your face for me?” you ask sweetly.

He puts down his book and leans back, spreading his legs wide over the couch as he eyes you suspiciously.

“Why? Do I have brownie crumbs on it?”

His fingers reach up and he strokes them along his jaw, wiping away at whatever might be there.

“No. No brownie crumbs,” you tell him, smiling.

He takes the wipe and starts to rub it over his mouth and scruffy cheeks.

“Then what?” he muses, still wiping his face. “Did you leave lip prints again? I like those. Don’t wanna wipe ‘em off.”

You giggle.

“No baby, no lip prints either.”

When he’s done cleaning his face he balls up the cloth and throws it over your head straight and into the trash.

“Well then what?” he prods. “Is that good for your skin or somethin’?”

More giggling.

“I just wanted to clean my seat for later.”

His expression is blank for a second before his lips turn up, his tongue darting out to trace their outline.

“Well, it’s clean now doll.”

He sits up and grabs your waist, dragging you into his lap. In one deft move he slides your black hair tie off your wrist and starts to pull his hair away from his face.

Your teeth dig into your bottom lip, nibbling the soft flesh to stifle your moan of anticipation. He secures his hair in a small bun at the base of his neck and then wraps you in his arms.

“Let’s go,” he murmurs as he throws you over his shoulder. “Just make sure you don’t try to clean it afterwards. I love being able to smell you on my beard all day.”
