Hey, lovelies. Wanted to share a personal update. TW: Death

My mother-in-law passed away last week. This was a woman I knew for over 21 years. She lived over 800 miles away (and actually planned to move closer so she could be near her grandkids), which was why I had to make a long drive over the past weekend to try and pack up her place this week and get other affairs in order (which is going to be a lengthy process). Her service was yesterday and we plan to drive back home this weekend so the kiddos can get back to school and daycare Monday.

My hubby lost his father a few years ago and has no siblings. This loss of his mother has been, understandably, tough for him and family overall. The kiddos don't fully grasp what has happened. Between this and other things, I'm trying to stay strong for everyone.

As always, I write when I can and won't answer any fic update questions. Once they are ready, I'll share once available and hoe out when time allows.

The Glass Scientists: Info from the Author's Notes (Chapter 3)

This chapter’s title, At the Good Intentions Paving Company, is named after one of Sabrina’s favorite Joanna Newsom songs, “Good Intentions Paving Company”

(Not from Sabrina’s notes, but I just wanted to note that part of Lanyon’s dialogue is ripped straight from the Jekyll and Hyde musical. “The whole thing’s un-Christian, barbaric, and odd” is from the song “Board of Governors”)

TGS Lanyon is largely influenced by this passage of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: "This was a hearty, healthy, dapper, red-faced gentleman, with a shock of hair prematurely white, and a boisterous and decided manner. At sight of Mr. Utterson, he sprang up from his chair and welcomed him with both hands. The geniality, as was the way of the man, was somewhat theatrical to the eye; but it reposed on genuine feeling. For these two were old friends, old mates both at school and college, both thorough respecters of themselves and of each other, and, what does not always follow, men who thoroughly enjoyed each other's company."

The way Jekyll reacts to the Frankenstein play is basically what Sabrina’s reaction was to the “classic Universal Frankenstein movie“

Jekyll is “normally a very polite theater-goer, because Perfect Gentleman. He only lets his nerd flag fly around his closest friends--which at this point basically means Lanyon. And probably Rachel, but I bet it would look kinda weird to take your cook out to a night at the theater. If you're a Perfect Gentleman, that is. Jekyll enjoys the theater quite a lot. These days, he hasn't the time or the money to attend, although he will on occasion scrape together time to see the most talked-about performances of the moment--the Hamiltons and Book of Mormons of the 1880s--so that he can keep up with posh folks at dinner party conversations. But left to his own devices, he still prefers the campy, over-the-top monster shows he loved as a kid. Most of them are terrible, but that's half the fun of it!”

 The color of Jekyll’s eyes match the color of the transformation potion before the final ingredient (a mysterious, unspecified but apparently very rare salt) is added and Hyde’s eyes match the color of the potion after this ingredient is added

Most people (in world) assume that Jekyll’s eyes are a very saturated brown instead of thinking his eyes are red

Gradually, more and more oranges will begin creeping into Rachel’s kitchen

Hyde made the ragged edge on his cape himself

“The Forty Elephants was a real-life girl gang that terrorized London for decades.  They did in fact have a Queen, although I don't think her name was Lucy. This fictional Queen Lucy is named a character of the same name from the Jekyll and Hyde musical. The musical Lucy is one of Jekyll's love interests”

These guys probably won't factor into the story in any significant way, but . . . they're here!“

VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)

Oooh that is a good question! It originated from one of my oc's from when I was fifteen and trying to write my own novel! I like to think it's entirely unique but I could be wrong!
