hi lovely vy could u do headcanons where yelena works for shield and always does missions alongside the avengers (even if she’s like 16/17) and so everyone sees her as super mature for her age but she’s still just a teen and faces some of the normal struggles like body image problems/ depriving herself of food because she’s been told that her worth only comes from her appearance. and maybe steve and tony and bucky all notice at separate times and try to help her and come to the realization that they’ve all been treating a child as an adult

As someone who struggles with body image and an ED I'm incredibly thankful for this request dear. Hope you like the headcanons 💕

She's found a home here, two actually

She's surrounded by people who care for her, people she trusts

She contributes greatly in the city's - or rather world's - security

She's never been at a higher point as far back as she can remember

Then why does this dark raincloud still dangle itself above her head?

Why is it raining down doubt, hesitation and reluctance into her mind?

Why does it leave her sleepless at night?

And why does it get her stuck in front of the mirror a lot longer than necessary?

Yelena's always been treated years beyond her actual age

There's really no other way she could've been approached and treated when all her life she's been seen as some sort of weapon

Now, she's a soldier, an agent, a hero

And the weight of the responsibility has only grown heavier on her back

It was a close call during their last mission, one that could've cost a civilian's life, that sent her down the dark spiral without any harness for her to hold onto or get lifted up to the surface eventually

She's deemed the high viewing adults have of her as something for her to feel complimented by

To be seen as mature, intellectually and physically, past one's age is often perceived as a great admiration of the person's skillset and their ability in a certain field or line of work

But when the person is still just a teenager, one who never got to experience proper childhood at that, the positive aspects of it get thrown out the window

It does more harm than good

Which is precisely the case with Yelena who, despite doubting it, started losing self-regard and care for the sole purpose of being the hero and protector she'd deem 'worth' fighting alongside the Avengers

It took effect drastically

Drastically enough for people to thankfully start noticing

The first was Tony

He picked up on her more than half full plates following every meal, the lack of empty spaces on the plate contradicting her claims of feeling full or stuffed

He'd tried to point it out to her, how she was not rationing her food intake properly with her workout regimen, but she brushed him off with a claim that the protein shakes she drank were making her feel full

When he told her to cut down on them, she'd unconvincingly agreed

Second was Steve

He noticed her excessiveness, the newfound urge to go further and faster with every workout than ever before

He had half-jokingly warned her to slow down to which she almost bitterly replied that if it were him he definitely wouldn't slow down

The nail didn't get hit on the head till Bucky accidentally stumbled across her journal

It had been left in the cafeteria - her newly-scatterbrained self had forgotten it there - and he had flicked it open in hopes of finding any evidence of the owner's identity

He immediately recognized Yelena's neat cursive handwriting and was just about to close it and go return it to her when he noticed what had been written

A workout routine, body measurements, calorie counter comparing intake and the amount burnt during her training sessions

This sent off every last alarm in Bucky's head who, up until that point, had already had a sneaking suspicion that something was awry with the girl

And when he brought it up to Steve and Tony, he was beyond relieved to know he was not the only one

An intervention was bound to take place

And it did when Tony stumbled across Yelena in one of the rec rooms on base

He'd beckoned Steve and Bucky over too with one quick text and the meeting was in order

It took a lot of back and forth, a lot of false convincing from Yelena's side of the table and even more disbelief from her three mentors

When she admitted her struggles finally, tears staining her eyes as she white-knuckled her hands into fists, it felt like a ton of that weight she'd been carrying around, pressing down on her, was lifted

Like that raincloud had finally stopped pouring over her and had lightened up greatly

Her admission was followed by a spiel of genuine reassurance and comfort from the three Avengers

The first step of her recovery from that negative mental space was the burning of that damned journal

From that point on, she promised to trust the three with her workouts and meals as she had done prior to those depleting thoughts' nestling into her head

It's the one thing she's been seeking out all her life

People to trust and rely on

People who actually care

A family

That cloud might still be following her around, but it's pearly white and calm, not a raindrop in sight

But if a storm does start brewing, she'll have someone to shield her from it

hi beautiful i’m not the anon w the yelena request but could u do headcanons where yelena is going through the events of falcon and the winter soldier w sam and bucky and john walker makes some really bad comments to her earlier on and then hurts her really bad during the fight so bucky gets super protective

PS: I've not yet seen the show (I know, I suck, I'm sorry 😭) so this is gonna be a bit of an outtake of sorts but don't worry it'll live up to the shittiness of John's character

Platonic Relationships: Bucky Barnes & Yelena Belova & Sam Wilson

Yelena has always had a strong gut instinct, one she could trust with anything at anytime

But even if that wasn't the case, simply looking at the smug face of John Walker would've set off plenty of alarms and fed her all the reasons she'd need to dislike him right off the bat

It sure helped seeing that Bucky and Sam shared her opinion, their glares as sharp as hers whenever their eyes would land on the man, cutting holes into him

He wasn’t any kinder in return

Say what you will about him, but the way he was able to gauge precise details about Yelena with minimal amount of time spent in her vicinity was nothing short of eerie

He knew what dots to hit to hurt her as much as he could

Digging through her past, how she came to be who she is today, tugging strings to lift the curtain she’s been trying so hard to keep closed all her life

The curtain separating her current self from the person they crafted in the Red Room

A killing machine, as John had called her

But that was only one insult of many, all barreling down the hill and piling up....

“You’re a worthless weapon. Unless your crosshairs are aimed at someone, you’re absolutely useless“

“Were your culinary classes before or after the daily kill-or-be-killed sessions?“

“You want to be her, don’t you? Sorry to break it to you , sweetheart, but Natasha Romanoff was a hero. And you certainly aren’t that.“

...until enough was enough

And until the last string was pulled

He though of her as a weapon? A worthless one at that?

He’d get nothing less

At the mention of her sister, Yelena couldn’t stomach a word more with her aggression harnessed

So, she simply set it loose and allowed it to launch her forward at the bastard

Despite how sudden the attack was, John was able to dodge it

But only partly

A kick to his shin brought him to a knelt position which allowed him to be an easy target for Yelena’s knee uppercut

Not easy enough though because he managed to dodge it and counter her back-up attack which was meant to be a kick delivered square to his chest

Unfortunately, the size difference between them worked out in his favor and helped him greatly when he gripped her leg by the ankle and whirled her in to the other side of the room

The harsh impact of Yelena’s body into the wall sent pieces of tile and dust raining down around her slumped form

Her body was shaken by the force of the hit, her vision blurred because of the nasty injury she’d obtained on the back of her head from where blood was now gushing, staining her blond locks a deep haunting red

The same shade Bucky started seeing when him and Sam walked in a second too late to witness the whole thing

Nevertheless, it took them less than a second to connect the dots

Whereas Sam ran to Yelena’s aid, Bucky wasted no time inflicting his own damage on the asshole who, for the splittest of seconds, looked almost guilty to have inflicted so much damage on the girl

That’s partially why Bucky’s fists made a harsher collision with his jaw and cheek than they would’ve had John had all his bearings intact

He took his chance and ran with it, refusing to slow down even when the redness of his vision was no longer so much anger as it was the blood coating John’s face, neck and upper chest

It’s around this time Sam, only after making sure Yelena was ok, ran over to prevent Bucky from killing the man for no reason other than to keep his partner out of trouble

God knows he himself wanted John dead at the moment as well

But with the last bit of restraint kicked into action, the two men backed away from the beaten and bloodied asshole on the floor and made their way to a still dazed Yelena who was now sitting up with her back against the wall

Her eyes had a sad glint to them, tears of either pain or genuine sadness staining the pools of brown

“You shouldn’t have done that...“ She mumbled with a solemn shake of her head, fearing the repercussions he Bucky might face after this sort of outburst

He’s anything but worried however

“No one lays a finger on you and gets away with it, kid“

Something about the smile he utilizes when reassuring her is convincing enough to get a small one out of her as well

Apart from a strong gut, Yelena has also had a knack for finding herself a family in the most unlikely of places

She lost her sister, but now she has two brothers

They’ll never replace or fill-in for her loss, but they’ll help her heal from it and from all else that’s been haunting her

That’s what family does for one another, is it not?
